- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, I'm Michael McCurray, and this is a Bible track echoes.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I've heard it said, and I think it's true.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: Ideas are one thing.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's got ideas.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: Execution, or should I say action?
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's a whole other thing entirely.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I've found it to be very true for my life.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: I've got a multitude of ideas.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: I would consider myself not a boastful way, just the way I made up.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a big vision individual, but sometimes I don't think through the logistics, I don't think through all the little things that have to occur for my big vision to become reality.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: And so there are times that I fail.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'll be honest with you, I'd rather fail forward, I'd rather move the ball down the field.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'd rather fail
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: freely.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you can only get better by failing, you know, at a sin in the 9,999 ways not to make a light bulb before he found the 10,000th way, the one way to make a light bulb.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd rather fail fast.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: The faster you fail, the quicker you can succeed.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: But sometimes you just fail from a lack of prior planning.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: And yesterday, on this broadcast was one of those days, you say, what are you talking about, brother McCurray?
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I had planned to get through an entire thought about purpose, really, an entire message condensed down into barely 13 minutes worth of talking time with intros and me introducing myself and talking, just connecting with you just a little bit really
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: and I failed miserably.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: So, I have given myself an order, I've demanded of myself to get it all done today.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: I got the introduction out of the way yesterday.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: Let's refresh on that and jump right in.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about what's your purpose.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: Use to be there was a day.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: When you could ask,
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: someone, Christian, or otherwise, what's your purpose?
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: What do you do?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe you'd have gotten an answer about their job, about their vocation, about their relationship, about what they saw themselves as, we've gotten to a place, especially among Christians, Christian young people.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: If you ask what's your purpose,
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: You get either a non-answer or you get a very non-committal pseudo-spiritual answer that doesn't really make any sense, but also isn't at its core God-honoring.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: It isn't about what God wants.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's more about, well, here's what I want, and here's how I'm going to try to fit God into that mold.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Well, these things are not so to be.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so I want to talk for just a few moments about your purpose we read yesterday, Daniel Chapter 1, and verse number 8, Daniel, purposeed in his heart that he would not defile himself with a portion of the King's meat, nor with a wine which he drank, therefore he requested of the Prince of the Unix that he might not defile himself.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: You'll notice the emphasis that I put on that word.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: not.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: The first time we're introduced to Daniel, we find out something he will not do.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: We live in a world where people want to be very, go along and get along.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: They want to appease.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: They want to be ecumenical.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: They want to all come together.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: under a shared common unified goal.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: But may I tell you, Daniel was right for his stand, not to eat of this meat very likely offered unto idols.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: He said, I can't partake in that my God says, my God is high and lifted up in my life, and I can't go along with this.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: An extension of idolatry.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: can't do it.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: And he would tell the King and the Prince of the Master of the Unix.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't matter who it was.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: It can't be a part.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: The first time we introduced him.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's not hello.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Daniel.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a really nice guy.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: And no, it was, here's something I won't do.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: I want to point out that you, if you're going to do God's purpose, if you're going to be part of God's purpose, you must have grit.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mentioned yesterday's sandpaper.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: If you take some 60 grit sandpaper and you rub it on your face, you will know that that, that there's friction being caused.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: You can actually, you could probably rub off a few layers of skin.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: You could drop blood if you start rubbing too long.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: God forbid, you take an electric, not grinder, but an electric sander.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: If you held that on your skin,
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: You could cause some problems.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: I remember, as a young boy, I was tasked with sanding a table or so chair or something like that.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I picked up the wrong grit sandpaper.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: My dad had already done the big stuff.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: He had already used the 60 grit.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: and we were on 120 or 200 grit sandpaper much softer, much more fine sanding, and I picked the wrong one and I started going to town.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: You should have seen the look of my dad's face because there was friction, not just between the chair and my sandpaper, but between my dad and I because I had not listened.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: I used the wrong sandpaper and there was a lot more work that was
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Because I scoured up, scoured up this chair unnecessarily, so yes, you need to have grit, but at the same time you can also be gracious, I think of the first Corinthians 16, 13, watchy, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men be strong, all those things sound manly and gritty and, but then it says, let all your things be done with charity.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, those three Hebrew boys, when they stood up to the king and said, we're not going to bow to your idol.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: And if you have to, you can throw us in the fire.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: They were still respectful.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: They were gracious.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: You can be gracious.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: First number nine, we just read a verse number eight.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to juxtapose.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to just leave you with this idea that you just have to be a jerk all the time.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: When you're trying to follow through on God's purpose.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the Prince of the Unix.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, ecclesiasties, three verse one, to everything there is a season in a time to every purpose under the heaven.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this thought about purpose is not about forcing your will or about forcing God on anyone else.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's about imitating Daniel's path toward his purpose, Daniel purpose in his heart, but notice the way he went about it.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: He plainly and directly stated and was very strong.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: And you could almost use the word severe.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: I will not and cannot do this, but he was gracious in this.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I found that finding God's place is easy.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: Finding God's pace is a little more difficult.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: The where of God's will, that's not so hard as finding the when of God's will.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel did not come with this issue with a bad attitude and said, I'm not doing nothing, I'm going on a hunger strike.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: No, not only do you need to have a grit and graciousness, you should have a game plan.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel chapter 1, verse number 12, he comes with a game, game plan.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: He says, prove thy servants.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: I besieged the 10 days and let them give us pulse to eat and water to drink.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: Then, let our countenances be looked upon before the and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the kings meet, and as thou seeest, deal with thy servants.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: He says, here's another option, would you let us eat these vegetables?
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: Will you let us drink water?
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: Don't just run really nearly into a confrontation with the world, and when you get slapped around because of your foolishness, say, oh, God's not protecting, no, you went without God.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the last thought.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: You must have not just grit, not just graciousness, personally, not just a game plan, but you need to have God's grace.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Proverbs 2018, speaking of a game plan, every purpose is established by Council and with good advice make war.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Oftentimes we make war without thinking about it, and we certainly don't involve God in the plans.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel chapter 1, verse 14,
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: so he consented to them in this manner.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: In this matter, improved them 10 days, and at the end of 10 days, their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh and all the children which eat the portion of the king's meat, thus males are took away the portion of their meat and the wine that they should drink and gave them pulse.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning wisdom, and Daniel had understanding all visions and dreams,
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now, at the end of the days that the King had said he would bring them in, he should bring them in, then the prince of the Unix brought them in before never can answer.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: And the King communed with them, and among them all was found none like Daniel.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I am Michelle and Azaraya, therefore stood there before the King, and in all matters of wisdom and understanding that the King inquired of them, he found them ten times better
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: than all the magicians and astrologers that were in his realm.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you need to have great, yes.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: Game plan and graciousness be wise.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: But understand at the end of the day, it's God's planning God's grace that matters.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Cleasiasis 317, I said in my heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: Sing it Timothy 1, 7 says, for God have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind, be not thou there for ashamed of the testimony of our Lord.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: Nor me, his prisoner, but be thou protector of the afflictions of the gospel.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: According to the power of God, who, capital W, who, meaning God, half saved us and called us with an holding calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace,
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, you know Romans 828, and we know that all things worked together for good to them that love God to them who are called according to his purpose.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: While I'm talking to you about your purpose, stating your purpose, what's your purpose?
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: Remember, at the end of the day, it's about his purpose.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: His purpose should be our purpose.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: If you go back to Daniel chapter number six, when we find Daniel in the lion's den, so familiar to us, what happened?
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: The king by his own decree,
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: cause for Daniel to be executed or almost thrown to lions dead and should have died.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: But what happens?
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel chapter 6 and verse 18, then the king went to his palace and passed the night fasting.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: Neither were instruments and music brought before him and his sleep went from him.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: than the King arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions, and when he came to the denny cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel, and the King's spake and said to Daniel, oh Daniel, serving of the living God is thy God, whom thou service continually able to deliver thee from the lions, then said Daniel unto the King, O King,
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: live forever, my king has sent his angel, and my god has sent his angel, and has shut the lion's mouths that they have not hurt me.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: For as much as before him, innocency was found in me, and also before the oking, have I done no hurt at the end of the day, god was the one that shut the lion's mouths.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: and it would have been God is still good if Daniel had died in the lion's den.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: But what a pleasure, what a blessing it is to seek God be good through delivering His man from the lion's mouths.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: My question, if you friend is, do you have grit?
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: Have a graciousness, a game plan?
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: Or are you seeking God's grace at the end of the day?
