  talked about when it's a season of love valentine's is this

  aspect of forgiveness

  forgiveness is not something that has been talked about often

  when it comes to

  SPEAKER_00: valentine's day but forgiveness is one of those
• 0:34
  facets of love forgiveness is one of those gifts not just a
• 0:40
  gift that God has given
• 0:42
  to us as a gift of salvation but it is a gift that God also
• 0:50
  expects us or should I
• 0:52
  say God wants us to give to our fellow man especially those of
• 1:01
  the same faith as us
• 1:04
  SPEAKER_00: This is what Jesus said in Luke 11 verse 4.
• 1:07
  Jesus said,
• 1:09
  and forgive us our sins just as we forgive those who have
• 1:15
  sinned against us.
• 1:18
  So if you look at it,
• 1:20
  we know that Jesus is actually teaching us how to pray.
• 1:24
  Jesus is actually teaching us and showing us that,
• 1:26
  okay,
• 1:26
  this is how a believer should pray.
• 1:28
  SPEAKER_00: This is how disciples of his should pray.
• 1:33
  SPEAKER_00: And part of that prayer is, forgive us our sins.
• 1:39
  SPEAKER_00: Just as we forgive those who have sinned against us.
• 1:44
  The interesting thing about this verse is that just as we,
• 1:50
  just as we forgive.
• 1:52
  So it's just like Jesus is saying that for you to assess or for
• 1:58
  you to experience
• 2:00
  SPEAKER_00: the forgiveness of God,
• 2:01
  SPEAKER_00: you have got to live a forgiving life.
• 2:06
  SPEAKER_00: And before someone would say,
• 2:09
  SPEAKER_00: but we are forgiven on the basis of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

  SPEAKER_00: You're right.
• 2:15
  SPEAKER_00: It's true.
• 2:16
  SPEAKER_00: We are forgiven on the basis of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

  SPEAKER_00: But Jesus said something that is interesting.
• 2:27
  SPEAKER_00: You can find that in Matthew 6, verse 15.

  SPEAKER_00: We'll go back.
• 2:32
  SPEAKER_00: We'll get to that place in due course in this episode.

  SPEAKER_00: Now, forgiveness of sin.
• 2:39
  SPEAKER_00: Forgiveness of sin is one of those great gifts that
• 2:44
  SPEAKER_00: one of those great gifts that sets the sinner free.
• 2:47
  SPEAKER_00: Forgiveness sets us free.
• 2:50
  Forgiveness gives us boldness towards God and is the source of
• 2:57
  our salvation.
• 2:59
  So the forgiveness of sin gives us reason to be thankful every
• 3:04
  single day of our lives.
• 3:06
  SPEAKER_00: So Valentine is a reminder that, oh,
• 3:12
  SPEAKER_00: The life that we live,
• 3:14
  the Christian life that we live is owing to God's forgiveness
• 3:17
  of our sins.
• 3:19
  SPEAKER_00: So as we walk with God in the assurance of sins forgiving,
• 3:23
  he desires that we should live as those who have been truly and
• 3:29
  freely forgiven.
• 3:32
  So we can only prove our sincerity by forgiving those who have
• 3:40
  offended us as
• 3:42
  SPEAKER_00: willingly as God has forgiven us.
• 3:46
  SPEAKER_00: So when Jesus said that,
• 3:49
  SPEAKER_00: forgive us our sins just as we forgive those who have sinned against us.
• 3:56
  SPEAKER_00: The ending is, we see that in Matthew 6, verse 15, as I said earlier.

  Jesus said,
• 4:02
  but if you refuse to forgive others,
• 4:09
  your Father will not forgive your sins.
• 4:14
  SPEAKER_00: Now, allow that to sink in.
• 4:17
  SPEAKER_00: I was actually reading this verse when...

  SPEAKER_00: It was as if the Holy Spirit was speaking to me.
• 4:26
  SPEAKER_00: Because actually, God was speaking to me through this verse.
• 4:36
  SPEAKER_00: If you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive you.
• 4:44
  SPEAKER_00: So the question is, it's a season of love.
• 4:48
  SPEAKER_00: We are in the season of Valentine's, celebrating of love.
• 4:54
  The question is,
• 4:57
  who do you have in your heart that you have not forgiven?
• 5:03
  SPEAKER_00: Who do you have in your heart that you have not forgiven?
• 5:10
  SPEAKER_00: That's a question you should ask yourself.
• 5:14
  SPEAKER_00: In Matthew chapter 80 verse 21, we have the question of Peter.
• 5:18
  And Peter asked Jesus,
• 5:21
  Lord,
• 5:22
  how often should I forgive someone who sins against me?
• 5:27
  SPEAKER_00: And Jesus answered the question as, 70 times 7.
• 5:36
  SPEAKER_00: And Jesus said this,
• 5:37
  he followed it with a parable of the servant whose Lord forgave
• 5:42
  him his debt,
• 5:44
  SPEAKER_00: but who could not show compassion on his fellow servant.
• 5:51
  SPEAKER_00: And the Lord asked him,
• 5:53
  shouldn't you have mercy on your fellow servant just as I had
• 5:57
  mercy on you?
• 5:59
  SPEAKER_00: So the servant was sent to prison because he couldn't forgive.
• 6:03
  SPEAKER_00: Then Jesus warns us,
• 6:08
  that's what my heavenly father will do to you if you refuse to
• 6:15
  forgive your
• 6:15
  SPEAKER_00: brothers and sisters in your heart.
• 6:19
  SPEAKER_00: So the question we should ask ourselves is,
• 6:23
  SPEAKER_00: It's a season of love.
• 6:25
  And it's easy to love those who,
• 6:29
  let me say,
• 6:30
  who have done something nice to us.
• 6:34
  But what about those people who have not done nice to us,
• 6:37
  who have not treated us right?
• 6:42
  SPEAKER_00: Will we forgive those people of their wrong?
• 6:46
  SPEAKER_00: Or will we harbor it in our heart?
• 6:52
  forgiveness is an overflow of love so one proof that you have
• 7:00
  been saved by grace
• 7:02
  is that you extend that grace to others is that you overflow
• 7:10
  that grace overflows
• 7:11
  SPEAKER_00: to others in the form of forgiveness
• 7:14
  SPEAKER_00: So as we approach Valentine's Day to celebrate love,
• 7:18
  SPEAKER_00: to celebrate those you love,
• 7:20
  SPEAKER_00: to give gifts to those who you love,
• 7:24
  SPEAKER_00: I want you to sit down and forgive those who have sinned against you.
• 7:32
  SPEAKER_00: It could be your husband.
• 7:33
  SPEAKER_00: It could be your wife.
• 7:37
  SPEAKER_00: It could be your father.
• 7:38
  SPEAKER_00: It could be your mother.
• 7:39
  SPEAKER_00: It could be your colleague at work.
• 7:42
  SPEAKER_00: It could be a fellow Christian in church.
• 7:43
  SPEAKER_00: It could be your pastor.
• 7:46
  SPEAKER_00: could be your pastor's wife,
• 7:47
  SPEAKER_00: whoever,
• 7:48
  SPEAKER_00: whoever that has sinned against you,
• 7:52
  SPEAKER_00: I want you to forgive them from your heart.
• 7:56
  SPEAKER_00: It is a gift of love.
• 7:59
  SPEAKER_00: That is what I want you to do today.
