- 0:00Speaker 1: Section twenty five of the Heart of the New Thought
- 0:04Speaker 1: by Ella Wheeler Wilcox. This LibriVox recording is in the
- 0:09Speaker 1: public domain. Concentration the New Thought includes concentration of thought
- 0:18Speaker 1: in its teaching. And he who learns that important art
- 0:23Speaker 1: is not liable to frequently forget small or large duties.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It is he who scatters and instead of concentrates his
- 0:32Speaker 1: mind powers, who keeps himself and others in a state
- 0:37Speaker 1: of a continual irritation by forgetting, mislaying, and losing, three
- 0:43Speaker 1: pity vices which do much to mar domestic or business life.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Concentration is a most difficult acquirement for the mature mind
- 0:54Speaker 1: which has been allowed to grow in the habit of thought.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Scattering Wise is the mother, and as sure as wise,
- 1:04Speaker 1: who teaches her child to finish each task begun before
- 1:09Speaker 1: attempting another, For that is the first step in concentration.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Princess Mufford, that great and good pioneer in the field
- 1:21Speaker 1: of practical new Thought, tells us to apply our whole
- 1:26Speaker 1: mental powers to whatever we do, even if it is
- 1:31Speaker 1: merely the tying of a shoe, and to think of
- 1:34Speaker 1: nothing else until that shoe is tied. Then to utterly
- 1:39Speaker 1: forget the shoe string when we turn to another duty
- 1:43Speaker 1: or employment. The next lesson in concentration he gives us
- 1:49Speaker 1: is to repeat the word often to impress it upon
- 1:53Speaker 1: the mind, and then to declare each day that concentration
- 1:59Speaker 1: is will aid still further in the acquisition of this
- 2:04Speaker 1: great and important quality. Meanwhile, since we can be so
- 2:11Speaker 1: fortunate as to always surround ourselves with others who have
- 2:16Speaker 1: acquired it, the student of the higher philosophy must learn
- 2:20Speaker 1: to be serene and self poised when he encounters life's
- 2:25Speaker 1: pigamy worries. He must carry his religion into his bedroom
- 2:30Speaker 1: and his office, and not forget it utterly when he
- 2:34Speaker 1: loses his cooler button, or misses his car, or finds
- 2:39Speaker 1: his office boy has taken a parcel to the wrong address.
- 2:45Speaker 1: To build character necessitates a constant watch upon ourselves. The
- 2:50Speaker 1: new thought is not a religion of Sundays, but of
- 2:54Speaker 1: every day. End of section twenty five, which should think
