Transcript
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Three Yards Perkati, a podcast covering the Miami Dolphins and the NFL.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_03]: And we're on, and this is Three Yards Perkari.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_03]: This is the season finale of Three Yards Perkari.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_03]: That's eight years of this.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_03]: The next time you hear from us, might be in about two weeks when we will kick off our ninth season.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: Simon does a feel like like eight years of this.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: You asked me this question every single time.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: I know every single year.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, last year was this feel like seven years.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_03]: Now it does a feel like eight years.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like a hundred years.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_03]: It does.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_03]: This team, by the way, this team is what makes it feel like eight hundred years because
- 0:52[SPEAKER_03]: what is happening and what's going to happen come March 11th is gonna be all kinds of interesting.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: I don't remember, we're gonna start in a weird place here.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_03]: We understand that they're cutting everybody.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_03]: So we're gonna get to everything one of those.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: And we're gonna forecast, what might be next?
- 1:09[SPEAKER_03]: And in the second half of the show, we could talk about a lot of things that are gonna happen with this team, namely, to a thing of our law Austin Jackson and so forth, possible traits.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_03]: But we're gonna start here.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_03]: This fan base, and I'll start with you Simon.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: This fan base is in a pretty weird spot.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_03]: Wouldn't you agree?
- 1:28[SPEAKER_03]: Have you ever remembered this fan base being in this spot kind of in between?
- 1:34[SPEAKER_03]: Like, there is no hope.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, they're not hopeful, they're not optimistic.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_03]: Almost hostile.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_03]: Do you remember this fan base being in this way, ever?
- 1:46[SPEAKER_03]: At least in the life of this podcast?
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: No really, I mean, bizarrely, lots of people seem really kind of down on the coaching situation with gay, they seem even more upset, even more bizarrely, over the assistant coaches, as if 99% of them have any idea who 99% of the coaches are anyway, which is the thing that always makes me laugh.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, probably not, but then I get it in a way.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's a difficult time.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's no real hope necessarily at the moment.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think people are like people are pinning all their hopes on 2027.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: and I get that.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's we've talked about that a lot.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's what's quite interesting is that people have begun to understand the green bay wire of running a team.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: The idea that we're clearing all this cap room because next year we're just going to jump back into footier than starting a load of players from other teams that's never worked for us over the past 30 years.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: And actually the green bay wire is exactly
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they make the occasional trade as we saw in Micaparsons, but mainly Green Bay of, you know, stayed very, very true to a longstanding, wrong wall from Ted Thompson philosophy, which is the built-ins for the draft.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: And John Eric Sullivan has talked about that.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: Chris has never when he came in and his press conferences and any interviews he's done.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's talked about, you know, how much he respects the picks and how much he wants to build for the draft.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I think this upcoming season given that what's happened already with the cuts and also with the cuts that are clearly going to come.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have a lot of first and second year players, a lot of undrafted brilliance, a lot of younger guys who are playing on the team.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'll, you mentioned the name there, I've been Austin Jackson, and I, you know, I had a discussion with our then-ruble friend, Barry Jackson, who's, you know, who's great and Barry was saying, well, you know, Austin could play an exterior and the saving is only like 1.3 million or whatever it is, and that's a fair point.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: The flip side to that is that he's missed almost 50 games as a Miami Dolphin, and I think if you play his next season, all he's doing is, since you just take
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: for a future player, because I don't think he's going to be here long-term.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's not been good enough, unfortunately.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: And it's, yeah, so I look, I get them while the fan base are upset in terms of the playing stuff.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's pretty, you know, you just hear the same old boring tropes that, you know, get pedal by somebody and then somebody else picks them up and runs with them about,
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we can keep Nathaniel Hackett and who's so and so and why have we hired this guy?
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: There's no experience and so and so and, you know, I don't think of the coaches.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it has to sit here and go through the dolphins coaching this right now.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: Right, of the, of the, we've just hired.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't think us as pre-experienced, you know, friends of football, friends of the team would be able to go with hand on heart, good faith that we know, you know, obviously we knew slow-economic, but too low, which handle the delbets.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think crowds were, you know, I know it's been on the team, but, you know, it's that ginsa, maybe, land and wallets, maybe, you know, dug in definitely, but chukun, uh, underlue, our Washington, Wendell Davis.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, these are guys Syracuse de Abarate.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: Do we, did anybody block a lever, that reassure you banks?
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: Do you know to me, and like people are making these kind of various judgements about how bad the coaching staff is, when they don't even know who half the, the people are, which is kind of, you know, that's pretty, half the course into that stuff crisp.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I mean, I get it out, but it's just a bit kind of, it's just a bit dark.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's just a bit dark.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's a contrast to, you know, when Mike McDaniel came in here with, with the sexiness of the secondary coaches when he came in after a year or Sam Madison and Patrick certain how sexy can you get and and they were both gone after one year, by the way, West Walker was the wide receiver's coach, you know.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, John Embery, all these guys, and, you know, they go on, you know, the only people that we've retained to pretty much Austin Clarke, Joe Barry, you know, I mean it's going crowds, it's pretty much yet, really, I can't, you know, Lamele, Jean Pierre, you know, be on that, everybody's never leaving us, he's never leaving us, he's never leaving us, he's absolutely, but
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all these guys, Jamila Dye, Dishwan Shed, Ryan Downwich, you know, Pakistan's highlight, but I've really disappointed that Ryan Downwich left, you know, they think he's a, you know, future defensive goal next.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: One duck and we'll be in the head coaching circle over the next couple of years in terms of what he does, you know, as defensive goal player.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: And he's in his early 30s.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: And say what you like about Petudo, say what you like about Slowerwick, you know, Petudo, especially.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, it wasn't a success as a play caller, but it doesn't mean to say that what he does is a passing encroordnator.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: And what he did historically as a passing encroordnator wasn't good work.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, he's not going to be calling the plays.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: He's not going to be designing the plays.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: And yet, you got people like want to jump off the bridge because we hired, you know, bushhandon, who bushhandon, man?
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: Who is this guy?
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like...
- 7:24[SPEAKER_03]: chill just chill yeah it's a same old ship of more of it and that's a meeting is just running with the narrative that ought to prepare in the tank and prepare in the tank no they're just not good enough and these are guys that they have to get rid of onto you Chris no it's a same old ship but it's a same old ship but it's more of it
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: because we have more of it to do right now.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: This offseason is a lot of other off seasons crunched into one offseason.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's clearing away the deadwood that you might normally clear out over the course of a couple of off seasons but in one offseason.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's hiring a coaching staff that you otherwise would be doing over the course of many off seasons or multiple off seasons.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: because this guy's leaving and you're gonna replace this guy and this stuff like that.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: But instead you're condensing it all into one off season.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: We're hiring the entire coaching staff.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: So the same old shit with the Dolphins fan base, I think.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's just more of it.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's just more opportunity to, you know, cry foul about this or that, which, you know, it's only natural.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's what they do.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, you said it before and it's it's something that we have to keep in mind.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know we don't know shit about these assessment coaches.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: We really don't you can go to you can always go back to With the player you can roll the tape.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: You just roll the tape.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: Right on a player and you're going to see right even even things that you can't really know about the responsibilities and the playbook and things like that can be semi accurately inferred especially if you're experienced at all.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: with a role in that type.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: With assistant coaches, you can't do that.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: There's no tape at all, too.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're watching players play, players execute.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: You're watching players execute.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: Everything is through the lens of the player execution.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: And it's very, and then you have the issue of so many cooks in the kitchen who really cook the meal.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like that.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: And that's you just don't know any of it.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: You don't know any of it.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: So it's, um, I've likened it to astrology.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's not a real science.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, um, and so, you know, I'm sorry to astrology fans out there.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think that that's where it is and you have to keep in mind that we just don't know anything and we'll see what happens when it happens with these coaches.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise, we've got a lot of weighty momentous kind of decisions coming up in this offseason and again that just gives us all.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: more opportunity to have grapes.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: But it do get the feeling that people are now in sort of the we're beyond the excitement of we've got the new main guys in charge John Eric Sullivan and Jeff Haffley.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a lot of excitement there.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of honey moon there.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: we're a little bit beyond that now and just a little bit and there's a little bit of a catching of a breath and like, you know, oh, you know, do something good that gets us excited.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: And that's just unlikely to happen.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I think there's going to be even further as we go down the road and this will take years to play out for people to truly understand
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: that they mean what they say when they talk about, you know, not using free agency and building through the draft and how the entire exercise is draft development keep over and over and over again.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: And this is a Kyle Crab stat, and I'm gonna borrow it with full credit from him, but he was talking about earlier.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: He looked at the last six seasons of Green Bay's reagent activities, and they only signed six players for above $2.5 million average salary, right?
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: Only six, in six, off season.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: So what were off season?
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: Miami has done six times that over the same period.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: So 36, you know, of those types of signings under Chris Greer and with the Miami Dolphins.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: And it is going to be a shock for people.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think they're going to kind of understand it this year because everybody kind of knows that this is that we're in a bottleneck.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_02]: from salary cap standpoint, access to capital and you know, and all that jazz, but it's going to be a hell of a shock next year when they wake up and they're like, okay, you're
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: A good way is under the cat.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: The cat now, possibly, you know, just depending looking at the payroll, as much as like $100 plus a million dollars under the cat, because the dolphins don't have any players suspended on right now.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: Even if they, you know, do things with Devonne Hann and, and Aaron Burr and Jordan Brooks, which everybody wants, doesn't matter.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: Even when you finish them, their payroll is going to be low in 27 and beyond.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: Right, but we're going to have all this cap space and everybody's going to be like, okay, here we go.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: I want to sign this guy.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to sign that guy guy.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody's going to work their little calculators.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to work their their favorite little fantasy programs where you do free agent signings and stuff like that.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then they're going to get they're going to get to to actual free agency and be like, what's going on.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_02]: What.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: what's happening, nothing is happening.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just sort of like this thing where it's like, John Ayrick Sullivan gets on.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, we're going to build through the draft.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're going to avoid the dangers of free agency because of the culture thing and injuries and turnover and stuff like that.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then we're gonna actually not sign anybody yet.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: What can we talk about that?
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and that's what the fans are going through.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think as they're thinking forward right now and I think they're really gonna go through it next year.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, somebody reached out to me on Twitter and said, I can't really, I could get, you know, I could get behind Malik Willis and I was like, yeah, that's, that's pretty good and yeah, I could get behind that and that would get me kind of excited and then his next words were and I could get excited after if they sign I say I likely and I'm like,
- 13:50[SPEAKER_03]: But then don't get excited.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_03]: I don't get excited.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_03]: $12 million tight ends, APY, and maybe more.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe more.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I'm underselling him because he's a pretty good young player.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I saw Deepo Samuel being talked about.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, what, will he end it?
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: Are you guys on living on right now?
- 14:08[SPEAKER_03]: My favorite is the Eagles beat writer that says, AJ Brown, perfect landing spot for Miami.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like, what?
- 14:16[SPEAKER_03]: Like, perfect landing spot for who?
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: What are you guys on right now?
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that'll for Malik Wallace and a couple of vettman's Malik Willis is only because they've said outright that position comes first and they're going to take multiple multiple shots at you know that's it
- 14:35[SPEAKER_03]: All right, for the news and we're going to finish up the first part of this show here on the news of the week, which is the cuts that they've made and we're not going to analyze every single one of the cuts, but we're going to talk about which ones actually went wrong because that seems to be what everybody wants to talk about on Twitter in my opinion, look, I think that they they made some savvy trades.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_03]: We go back and we remember we were dancing around the campfire when they got J. L. Ramsey for a third rompick and Hunter Long, like that felt like a good trade.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_03]: I go to my grave thinking that the Tyree killed trade was a good trade.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_03]: You got two all-pro seasons out of him.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_03]: He just just didn't translate into anything.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_03]: Guy had two of the best seasons, a wide receiver has ever had as a Miami dolphin.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: But we are going to point to one.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think the Bradley Chub trade that folded right into the tampering charge that cost them a first and a third rompack.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_03]: You're talking about a period of time because remember he was a a trade deadline deal.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: A period of time where you lose a first, a third, a fourth, and another first due to tampering.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_03]: Inside of six months, that was a killer for this team.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_03]: You agree Simon?
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think so.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was a killer, um, where they could trade, uh, well.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really interesting one, isn't it?
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because what comes to choose a good trade?
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: If you look at the Tariq Hill trade, we got Tariq Hill and the Chiefs got Tremor Duffy, Brian Cook, Lea Chanel, Jalen Watson, B.J.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: Thompson, but they also won two Super Bowls in a period of time.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas when a playoff game.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, like you kind of know where I'm going, it was a good trade on a statistical basis for an excellent, for an outstanding player, an all-pro player who has voted number one in the NFL after the 2020-23 season, which was an elite season.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: But was it a good trade, and I've said this before, I don't, I don't hold it against Chris Greer and everybody else for swinging for the fences because they vehemently believe that they were going to rebuild this kind of great show on turf.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: They had a plan and it didn't work.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Now was it a good trade?
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was a great trade if you care about statistics and you don't care
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: as it feels a bit unfair, but it kind of is where I am with it.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I look I loved watching him play.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a bad person, not a good human being, but he's an unbelievable player and she'll be in the whole of fame.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know whether or not it was a good trade that helped the Miami Dolphins.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: It was Bradley Chabba good trade.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: Less so, I think, and again he played
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: but I'm not sure it was a good trade but you didn't play much no you didn't play much but also they were let down by bad court the quarterback ultimately wasn't good enough but yeah I just I just I enjoyed watching him play I don't think he was a good trade
- 18:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was a good trade, you know, because you have to, you hired a guy in Mike McDaniel and he had an offense and he had a style and the era of Mike McDaniel was
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: unabashedly, Mike McDaniel, um, for better and worse, right?
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: And, and, and I think that Tyreke Hill, like, really fit in as that great Mike McDaniel lieutenant in order to help establish the Mike McDaniel way of offense and, and what this offense, I mean, if you think about offenses that flounder around and don't have an identity, well, certainly Miami had that.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_02]: with Tyrekill and Jalen Wattel as the receivers.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that if you had gone to it and follow the Naysayers had been correct in saying that Tyrekill is going to be wasted with two a ton of Aloha's quarterback.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: That those two are not compatible.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: That they're not going to be able to play well together.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: And Tyrekill, you're going to have some terrible seasons and things like that.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: Then, I think you would look a little less kindly at this trade.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: I would say it was a good trade but a bad extension.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: Because they did a good, they made a good trade and gave it their best go of the Mike McDaniel way of doing things.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_02]: And he was part of that.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: was the Mike McKinney way of doing things ultimately good enough?
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: No, it wasn't.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: But you gave that approach.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's best shot in my opinion.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_02]: There wasn't a quarterback in compatibility issue.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_02]: There wasn't an offensive system in compatibility issue.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: And literally some of the best seasons of Tyree Kill put together in his Hall of Fame career.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: We're here with with all that going on.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_02]: So that was a good trade.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_02]: But
- 20:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, in in Chris Greer fashion, it's it's the details, you know, good trade, but then you through a pile of money at him kind of unnecessarily on the back end with the extension and you really got burned for that.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think that you that also happened with Jalen Ramsey like if you say you'll you go to your grave saying that was a good trade right or that that was a Jalen Ramsey third round pick hunter long that seems like a pretty good trade right But then the unnecessary money that they threw out Jalen Ramsey on the back end not a good deal, you know, not not not not a good idea.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, to a tongue of a lower the money that they threw at him that, you know, and in hindsight, two games into his career, you shouldn't have been, if, if you're going to pay to a tongue of a lower, you shouldn't be at a point where two games into his career, you already realize you made a mistake, right?
- 21:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like, and if you were that close to it, then there had to be, that had to be reflected somehow in the contract.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and I think that it was inevitable that it was going to get the contract, but the extension, but what that extension actually looks like mattered and, um, and that that ended up being a bad deal.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_02]: So it's like there's a lot of things that Chris Greer did that in isolation.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: You could defend.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: Or in the main part, you could defend.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_02]: But then the details surrounding it are just total, you know, bullshit or not, they turned it into a bad idea, turn to good idea bad really.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what the dolphins have been, have been very good at doing.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't blame the Tyreek Hill trade for their shortcomings over the years.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think you're getting a lot closer when you talk about Bradley Chub, because he never played or not never.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, he wasn't good at staying on the field.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: He did have that history before he even got here.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: I remember when Vic Fangeo was here and Bradley Chob was joining the defense and Vic Fangeo said something publicly is like, you know, yeah, I told Bradley, you know, he was, you know, the three seasons, the three seasons that he was with me over in Denver, you know, he was really good for that one that he stayed healthy.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't say it all and is it a ironic that his best season where he was there was a lot of good defense players that year so he wasn't a serious defense player the year candidate but he was in that group of guys that got that were you know that you know when you get that group of this guy's four to one and that guy's five to one he was at least in that group he was having a monster season
- 22:59[SPEAKER_03]: And isn't it ironic that down the stretch, you don't have him because he blows out his knee two weeks out from the season finale.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_03]: And you don't have him for the playoffs either.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_03]: Where do you want to break?
- 23:11[SPEAKER_03]: And when we come back, we're going to talk about the future.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to look a little bit more toward the future.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_03]: And a little bit toward the past, namely James Daniels, because Dave Hyde revealed something that we have been talking about before on our discord only
- 23:30[SPEAKER_03]: And we're back.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_03]: And like I said, if you want to interact with us, you got to go to onlyfins and do that.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_03]: You go to discord.gg forward slash onlyfins.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_03]: Join on a desktop avoid the Apple upcharges.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's 499 all access a month.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_03]: Dave, I did a little bit of, did a nice little reveal.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_03]: And Dave had has the cloud where I don't think he has to go check two or three sources while other guys do.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: And I think this is something that we talked about on only friends before and during the season.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: James Daniels was expected back.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_03]: And if you could speak Mike McDaniel,
- 24:12[SPEAKER_03]: You could kind of tell that Mike McDaniel was saying it all season like, you know, it's weeks and it's weeks and then weeks turned into, no, he's not coming back.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to play those three snaps and that's going to be his Miami Dolphin career.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_03]: What did you make of that Simon Dave Hyde's reveal that James Daniel?
- 24:31[SPEAKER_03]: James Daniels essentially refused to play when he was ready to this season.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well it felt like the room is at a time that was what was kind of happening and just be journalism from Dave to find the out and you know, I'm not surprised he was kind of that was the that's the situation.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: It goes back to what we talked about with Austin Jackson.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: You're essentially if a guy didn't want to play he didn't want to get in the trenches.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: you know I believe which says and you know you can see that Sullivan Hathley wouldn't want that around and you know he would just be holding up a spot for for somebody younger they might want to you know test over the next season or so so yeah I mean am I surprised no because that was what the rumor was but yeah good bit of journalism.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: Chris.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: I just think I just think it's worth noting that, you know, it's an unfortunate and I don't want to keep beating up on Chris Greer for being gone.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: But he got Will Fuller twice.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: So let's do anyway.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, let's do it anyway.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: He got Will Fuller twice.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_03]: Three times.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_03]: Three times.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: You forget anyone.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_03]: Wait, who am I forgetting?
- 25:41[SPEAKER_03]: Byron Jones.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_03]: He of, we expect him on the plane, I West.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_03]: Remember that episode?
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, there you go, but I think that to get will followed two times like that, or three, in the case of Bayern, but Bayern played for some of us.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like, will Fuller never played.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like, hardly ever played.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: James Daniels, you know, like,
- 26:09[SPEAKER_02]: how many snaps of James Daniels ever with us?
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: Three, three, yeah, there you go.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: Three good ones, three good ones.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: And they're great snaps, but I mean, like I think that to have that happen to you twice in a series of years.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: is as a general manager is quite embarrassing.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's one of the things that, and listen, I think they're good players.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Fuller was a good player when he played.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: Not for us, I mean, before that, he was a good football player, right?
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: And James Daniels has the ability to be like an Aaron Burr in this system, especially in the system.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, to have that happen to you twice, to have so bad of a handle on the physical situation, the medical situation, that that happens to you twice.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so, it's just a terrible, terrible look.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not, you know, am I a shocked or put off by this, you know, the innuendo about, oh, he was ready to play, and but he just refused to,
- 27:23[SPEAKER_02]: That happens more often than we know, you know, the tension between the player and the team about am I ready to play versus, you know, are them saying you're ready to play and the player saying I'm not I know my body.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not I'm not feeling ready to play.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_02]: There's so much of that that happens that we just isn't generally known about.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: So, no, I'm not shocked by that, and in the case of like, you know, to a, and some other players, it's sort of the opposite.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's a medical team, always telling them, no, you can't play, no, you can't play.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: And the player being like, the fuck you say, you know, I want to play.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: I want to be out there, right?
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: And so that, it's, it's messy, and normally it's not public.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: And, but it happens all the time.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_03]: All right, and thinking about who's next, you got to think Austin Jackson, and I'm thinking that he's not long for here.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_03]: There's there isn't giant savings from this, but maybe you go walk walk us through this and then we'll get to the player with Simon here first, but walk us through Chris, the mechanics of trading Austin Jackson, what are the best, what are the benefits you can
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, always the trade is going to be is going to be better.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think that, you know, if you're talking about, it depends on what you're talking about, because I don't care about the current salary cap accounting number.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, I care more about the, uh, the cash savings that will be, uh, that will be saved by getting rid of the guy because, you know, people say things about the salary cap not being real.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_02]: Um, until you actually have to go through a year where, you know, you're trying to squeeze the salary cap like you normally would and no juice is coming out.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: the capital kind of issue where you don't have the access to the cap debt that you normally would because you just don't have enough players.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: Austin Jackson's $11.5 million cash figure.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: Do you really want to pay that?
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: Do you really want to pay that for a guy that misses as many games as he does that even when he does play?
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to have a new quarterback and you're going to have a new style.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to have some new things going on.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: is his pass protection going to be, you know, kind of spotlighted a little bit more.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: Are you going to start to see that?
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: Are you going to start changing your mind about what kind of player he is when he actually does play because because you have different circumstances and things like that.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't don't think it's a good deal.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, what, what are you, what are you going for here?
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: You're trying to you're trying to Jimmy the the salary cap in the very, very short term.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: knowing that the short term salary cap doesn't really matter because you're not competing this year.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, you're saving that $11.5 million cash because the the $11.5 million cash would eventually have to come out at some point otherwise.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, that's what doesn't make sense to me.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's not,
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't really care about like, oh, do we trade them now or do we trade them post student first or do we do we cut them now or do we stretch them beyond June for it?
- 30:54[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_02]: I don't really care because the main question and I am as good on the salary cap issues as you know as most people you're fine, I'm just trying to tell you I'm so good on it that I know not to care.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_02]: Then I know that that is in consequential.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_02]: Right, that is switching around the same, you know, furniture in the same room, what really matters is the cash spent is whether the guy is worth the cash spent $11.5 million that answer to me is no.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I completely agree, and Simon, you could get into this as well as far as, you know, how do you go about replacing him?
- 31:35[SPEAKER_03]: But you really talking about replacing a guy who was already replaced for half of a season by Larry Borham.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_03]: and, you know, now I wouldn't say adequately, but he was passable until he wasn't, but Austin Jackson and I guess you could speak to how you replace him.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I'm free agency that there's a packer out there who's who's a tackle, by the way, who's going to be available.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_03]: and a former packer as well, that's going to be available, a favorite of Chris's yosh nighman who's going to be available in free agency, but to the player Simon about replacing him, I just never thought that Austin Jackson ever got over the hump.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_03]: He became a pretty good player in this system as a run blocker.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_03]: He could never pass protect.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_03]: Still couldn't pass protect when he came back this season.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_03]: He's an incomplete player for what they're paying them.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_03]: about your thoughts, Simon, as far as replacing him, this coming season, how would you seek to replace him?
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: This comes in, I always think that the tape is the tape, right?
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: And there have been obviously players who have developed their abilities, and we have one on the other side of the offensive line.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: in Patrick Cole, who is a quite good, I don't think he's everything that some people are making out, but I think he's a, you know, solid and descending left tackle and his play is certainly improved since he was a Houston.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think Austin Jackson and we went back and talked about it.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: At the time I remember us talking about it, the one offensive lineman, the one tackle we don't definitely don't want to draft his Austin Jackson and that's what we took.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: So, I'm not surprised that we're sat here now five years down the line, six years down the line, saying, actually he's been pretty mediocre.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: How are we replacing?
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: There are free agent tackles.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: There was a good draft full of, excuse me, there's a good draft full of, you know, right tackles that you could, you know, depending on who knows where the dog comes in, I go, his Francis Malagawa gonna make it the pick 11.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Spencer Fano really good player play both sides, you know, Maxine each are really good player, you know, where's he going to go?
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: Blake Miller is a 900 game star has played 3,778 offensive snacks in 54 starts, the Clemson, he's a right tackle, you know, Caleb Loom is a right tackle.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's Kate and Pock to go to play, you know, that there are, you know, Jude Bowery of Boston College, who was recruited by a new head coach, Caleb Tinnon, and North Western, Tray Zoon at the Excellen.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: There are a lot of players who can potentially play that right tap on spot.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, I'm not worried about where the replacement comes from.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_00]: But I just don't think as I said at the top of the show 20 minutes, your half an hour, I just don't think that, you know, progressing with Austin Jackson's right move for this team to take.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then beyond that, look, you know, there are other potential victims in this, in this situation, in this scenario in terms of players that,
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: we could easily move on from, and I'm pretty sure we probably will end up moving on from over the next few weeks and months, and that would include, I would imagine, Alex and Gold, for example, would be somebody who you could imagine, the dolphins, moving on from at that point.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: Mink of its patrick becomes a big kind of elephant in the room, he's being paid what close to
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what's the deal there that I think you would have a trade market.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: But also he was a pretty good player for us last year.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so there's at least two, and then you know, Jackson's the next three players.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, look at Terald Dodson.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: you know, he's not going to pay a huge amount of money, but he's being paid enough to think, you know, do you want to, you know, do you want to stay with the Terald Dutz and the other guy and say, see you there.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: you know, I know he's just sort of new contract, but if they are, if they are adamant that they just want to clean out high priced players that somewhere else they can go and then the other elephants in the room are what do you do with Jordan Brooks because I would imagine that you know you might get a trade offer or him he's got one year left in his contract.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then to what I can, you know, to what I can doesn't necessarily fit what?
- 36:09[SPEAKER_00]: some of the language that's been used around, you know, they're kind of big, get strong, ask, get as weak kind of thing down the stretch, build a bully, all that sort of stuff.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's a lot tougher than, you know, people giving credit for it, but he's not a 225 pound you know, between the tackles blaster.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they feel like they want to cash on him because in, you know, if they pay him, which I'm going to have to do next season, or this season on next season, because it's
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'll go to the dolphins going to be whilst you're waiting for him, you know, you're going to pay him significant NFL money and the dolphins aren't potentially going to be good.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, I think that comes into the equation as well.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, there'll be plenty of movement or potential movement, but I, I think Jackson is the, you know, next couple of the rank and we haven't even talked, of course, about the call back.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and which we will right now as far as I actually I'll I'll I'll I'll say this about some of the guys that Simon you mentioned Allik and gold are wouldn't be surprised if they kept because their 21 personnel is important to them and it's sort of like it's sort of like I know that this year matters less
- 37:22[SPEAKER_03]: But the public slow name check them at his own.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you name check them.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_02]: Medi name check them for a reason because I think that Allik Engold basically helps you install 21 personnel offense.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_02]: And so the installation of that and re-installation of that, which is required basically every year.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: might be important enough for them to overlook, you know, kind of meager sums of potential savings for him.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: Mink of its Patrick, I know, is there's a trade market on him, and I expect them to pursue it.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: The Austin Jackson thing, I'm curious, if there's a trade market on him, but with $11 and a half million dollars of cash coming to him this year, and having missed as many games Simon as you pointed out earlier,
- 38:10[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't be surprised if there's not a trade market on him because because the $11.5 million is a tidy sum for somebody that misses that much time.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: The one thing that I would not be surprised by is we heard lots of rumors and, you know, some I confirmed on my own and that there were some, there was at least one pretty big offer on the trade deadline for Jalen Water.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: And that was not going to be executed at the time because of it was bad enough that they executed the jail and Phillips trade.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: I still think that was a mistake when you had a new GM in coming who should be making that decision.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_02]: Right, but, but they weren't going to do that with jail and water and Rob John Eric Sullivan of the ability to make that decision, but I.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_02]: I believe if a similar blowout offer came this off season, they might act on it.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: And that's not because they want to get rid of jail and bottle.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's because John Erick Sullivan has flat out admitted.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: We don't have enough draft picks.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's my job to come up with three more draft picks right now.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_02]: Somehow in 2026.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I think he takes that very seriously.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that he's just paying lip service to things.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_02]: So he's got to figure out whether it's trading down from number 11 overall, whether it's trading make a Fitzpatrick, whether it's trading Austin Jackson, or even when it's whether it involves trading jail and water, how to multiply those draft picks between now and 2027, they've got to come up with something like 40 players.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: Because we have very little payroll going into that we've got we need 40 players, but right now I think what do we have like 16 draft picks in those two years combined, you know, so how are you going to add those players when you're not big move big movers and checkers and free agency.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to be your primarily building through the draft, you know, it's yes, you can only do so much through undraft free agents in the the bottom of the barrel lottery scratch off tickets at the at the bottom end of the free agent market.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, yeah, he's got to multiply those draft picks and I wouldn't be surprised if guys that we believe to be untouchable are in fact, touchable.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I would tend to agree.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_03]: Although I saw those.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_03]: I saw the numbers come out for the franchise tags this year and that's all the number for running back up $4.4.2 million.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_03]: If that's the case, I'll go raise the money myself and I'll pay for Devon HM myself next season.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the only thing is like we just, we cannot afford.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_02]: We cannot afford to block off $14 million of unmanageable money.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like this is when a franchise tag money.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: is a black box of money like this that you can't you can't at all at it right or you can't you can't massage you can't squeeze it you can't you can't stretch it you can't do nothing with it so and they that is that is exactly what they don't have this of all offices and so they're I would look for them I don't I don't worry about that I think Devon HN is going to get done I think they have it in mind that they're going to extend him and that he's going to
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: Um, that he's going to be here and I think that, you know, if they're rolling forward with this offense, as we believe that they are, it's going to feature more mobile quarterbacks that can be involved in the, uh, uh, running game.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think Demon A Chan actually marries quite well with that.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: So, um, so I think that, uh, I think that, uh, he will probably be very pretty safe.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_03]: All right, you took to Twitter today and you spoke about to a talk of Aloha being moved and you've expressed some confidence in being able to trade to her.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_03]: Now you were met with like just straight up vitriol.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I didn't even read the responses to be honest.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I got to kick out of reading your responses these days.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes I do, and sometimes I just leave it off, leave it on red.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's not good for your mental health to read responses on Twitter, to be, you know, the answer to you.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_03]: That's true.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_03]: And it's getting worse lately with this team, you know.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_03]: This team is where the, the Miami heat was last season and the Miami heat or X are getting even more of the the responses are getting more We're not getting better for the heat.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's not, but I'll start with Simon here You expect I do expect look at and this is not a there's not so inside information.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_03]: This is just looking at the calendar I do expect to talk of Aloha
- 42:38[SPEAKER_03]: to be a decision be made and done before March 11th, so we are talking in less than 30 days.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_03]: We're talking about inside of three weeks.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_03]: Simon, what do you think is happening with to a tongue of aloa?
- 42:51[SPEAKER_03]: Because basically the next time we get on the air, we might even have resolution on to a tongue of aloa.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_03]: So your thoughts, what do you think happens with them?
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: I suspect to trade happens and Miami pays a significant chunk of change as part of that trade deal.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_00]: Steve Ross will pony up on the large portion of cash to 18 to take that contract off their hands and Miami will get a day three pick in return for him, maybe a fifth rounder.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't be surprised, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this does stretch on, but they'll try, and they'll try and achieve some sort of formality to not make it feel like it's dragging on by kind of announcing what they're going to do, what their intentions are, like we've made a decision, this is what's going to happen.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they did that with Jalen Ramsey.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: once upon a time.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_02]: They said, this is what we're doing.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: We are going to trade.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: We're seeking out a trade for Jalen Ramsey.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_02]: And then, you know, and then it takes some time to actually execute that trade.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_02]: I think we could be in a similar situation with to a tongue of a low.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_02]: The one thing that I would note to people is they tend to frame this wrong.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's because the Miami Dolphins have full, full discretion.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: on two aspects of this trade.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_02]: One, the financial aspect for the team that's trading for them.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: Miami gets to decide whether that team is paying $5 million or $2 million or $8 million or $10 million.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it is fully negotiable, in other words.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: So you're negotiating with this team.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: The team is telling you what they can pay for to a tongue of a low on the contract.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_02]: for 2026.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_02]: The other thing that's fully negotiable is the draft compensation, obviously.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: It can be a day three pick.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_02]: It could be a fourth rounder, it could be a fifth rounder, it could be a sixth rounder, it could be seventh.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_02]: It could be a conditional seventh and 2030, especially after the new owners meetings where they decide they're going to decide that we can trade picks from five years.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_02]: five years ahead in the future.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_02]: A conditional draft, a seventh round pick is basically cheap as free.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: So the Miami Dolphins have the full discretion to make both his salary cheap as free.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: and the draft compensation cheap as free, right?
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: They have full discretion over that in the negotiations.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_02]: So this idea that the teams that are negotiating with the dolphins would be the ones that are the roadblock and that they're the reason that we cannot trade to it under by the law, that doesn't really survive
- 45:43[SPEAKER_02]: the rationality test, because the dolphins have the ability to make him cheap as free both monetarily, financially, as well as in the trade comp.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: So really, it comes down to what are the dolphins themselves want to do.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: It is believable that the dolphins decide that they would rather just cut him right away as you say, March 11th, whatever, and then do a post-June first designation on him.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_02]: and then just get rid of them to be done.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like yes, we could drag this trade discussion on for a number of funds and maybe get like a five to $10 million break, but that's not worth it for us.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, everybody gets to make their own value judgments in that regard, right?
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: And the dolphins might make a value judgment in that regard.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's not worth it for us, we just want to be done here, right?
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: They might do that, they really might do that.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_02]: But if they decide the other way, if they do decide that they would like to save as much money as they can save and perhaps get a draft pick of some value, not a valuable draft pick of any sort.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_02]: Then what probably makes the most sense, actually, is for them to convert his base salary into actual bonus to pay it, not all of it, but some of it that they expect, you know, the other team to pick up the rest and convert it into bonus.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_02]: And that way, when they trade him post-June first,
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: Then in the meantime, because you've converted, you've done the restructure essentially as if you're going to keep them you're creating an ish cat space so that you have breathing room to operate.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: what they need it.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: They need breathing room.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: And then post June 1st, there's additional, there could be even additional savings and additional change of his salary cap standing as a post June 1st trade.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_02]: And you could negotiate that trade and say, well, we've struck a deal on April.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: but we're still not executing until June, you know, like that is a very possible thing.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that if the dolphins do decide to trade him, then be aware that the incentives switch to them saying, well, if we get frozen out of the negotiations, we might just keep them as a backup.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_02]: in 2026, which I don't know, but he probably wants, but it is a possibility to posture in that way.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_02]: And then to execute the trade post-June first, but in the meantime, there could be an actual restructure involved.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_02]: before that.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that those are the things so we're either going to find out probably on March 11th that he's cut and they just want to be done with it and that's it and they'll accept you know, they'll accept consequences for that or they stretch it on and and and do some salary captioning against.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: I just want to add, I think it is at a site that both on Pellacero, Ian Rappell, and Adam Chefta have all said that they think there will be significantly more trades when the new lead year opens.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think overall, as it contains a little, it's not just to a
- 49:12[SPEAKER_00]: The other players that we've mentioned, like Austin Jackson, but I do also think some of the players that the fanbase really wouldn't want to see moved on, such as Jay the model of such as Devon A10.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_00]: The dolphins will absolutely be getting questions at the bonus meetings.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it was, it was revealed today, the Seattle I'm going to not franchise tag Kenneth Walker who probably gets a big deal in free agency.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's the perfect fit for that offense there and Seattle in terms of, you know, in terms of that scheme and, you know, that is something that, you know, we can sit and say, it's not going to happen.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to happen.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to happen.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the multiple teams approach in John Eric Sullivan and say,
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: what will you take for J&M model?
- 49:58[SPEAKER_00]: What will you take for a Devon A channel?
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe to answer those guys are, you know, untouchable.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think he does.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: Especially when you are trying to, and look, we don't like it if Devon A channel was moved.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_00]: But the stark reality of it is that he's a hundred and whatever.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how he joke about this, but a hundred and likely pounds, a hundred and eighty five pounds.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, those guys historically do not last particularly
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: in the NFL.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's already played three years.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_00]: He runs a lot between the tackles.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great player.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of the top five running backs in the NFL.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: But history would tell us that his career longevity is not necessarily going to see the end of a five year 85 million dollar contract.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: And we've already been that one before with a number of fans where it hasn't worked.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I think there might be some pretty significant short-term pain for some pretty significant long-term gain.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: And if that means moving on from devolation, then I don't think fans should necessarily be surprised if that happens.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying it will happen, but by God there would definitely be asking questions, because things will be asking questions.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: Because of what was happened in the last, well, this week, but also since Sully took over,
- 51:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I just can't think that the owners and GMs will be sat on their hands at the owners' meetings and staff and they'll start a new league year and going and not asking those questions because the unequivocally will be.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: And everybody has a selling point.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_03]: I completely agree.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_03]: The other thing I would caution is they have so much work to do.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_03]: You're holling on even more work seems kind of productive to me.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like the yoga that roster, like Sullivan has a two year project here to get a team that's going to threaten for a seven seed and a three year project to be a playoff team.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_03]: So
- 52:02[SPEAKER_03]: All right, we're gonna call it right here.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_03]: This was our eighth season.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_03]: I think this was our toughest season.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_03]: Football wise, you would agree, right Simon?
- 52:10[SPEAKER_03]: This is our toughest season, football wise.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_03]: Like they fire in everybody.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_03]: Including the, I think they fired the janitors too.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like, anybody who was there last year is gone now.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is the world of fear, rough here.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_00]: In terms of content, and we're all here for the comments.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_04]: It was fabulous.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because ultimately, you gave us loads to talk about, right?
- 52:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: The team sucks, the core back that you've paid us a different amount of change to, turns out he isn't the guy after all, after we were all in on him, the GM gets fired, the head coach gets fired, we hire a new GM, who everybody thinks is a pretty spectacular, we hire a new head coach, yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy yad
- 52:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's been shit for a couple years.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_02]: Twenty four was actually harder for me.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_02]: Um, because of the, I front loaded everything that's happened, you know, in the second half or throughout 24 as well as this year.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_02]: And what's going to happen next year.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_02]: really the moment that two went down with a concussion in week two or twenty four like that that was it was an eye opening moment it was um you know talked to people around me and don't generally get around and get down about the dolphins you know I don't.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_02]: But I was down about the dolphins after that game for a good bit of time because I frontloaded all of the pain that was to come in 2425 and 26 all in that moment because I knew it.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_02]: I saw it clear as day.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_02]: What's going to happen?
- 53:53[SPEAKER_02]: The unwind, the fact that we're going to try and keep pushing a bad position as long as we have.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_02]: And that's
- 54:03[SPEAKER_02]: All of this has happened exactly like that and so 24 was actually very painful because also in addition to all of that, we thought all of us kind of thought that they should rip, you know, rip the band or you know cut the cord on on that the whole experiment.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_02]: with Mike McDaniel and everything at the end of last season, you know, I think all of us, the three of us were, we're talking that way, or generally or, you know, that, that this is probably a good at we should probably move on from both Chris Greer and Mike McDaniel and they didn't.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_02]: We got the end of season right after the end of the season, the statement from Steve Ross saying, you know, status quo is not acceptable, but we're going to keep the status quo.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's, I think that that made that year more painful for me.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas this year, you know, we were kind of like, are they, they really going to stick with Michael and Daniel after this?
- 55:00[SPEAKER_02]: Are they really, you know, we were a little bit on pins and needles, but they did it.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_02]: They did what we wanted to do,
- 55:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, when the season ended.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_02]: So last year was definitely way more difficult for me.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think I'm with you on 2024.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's when I got kind of down on the team with Mike McDaniel when two of went down and they play that cold scheme and you're thinking to yourself, you know, Mike McDaniel, you know, yes, yes, pretty good will with the fans, the media loves them, the national media love them at the time, they turned around them the following season, but they love them at the time.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm thinking of myself, you know what?
- 55:42[SPEAKER_03]: They go, he was on IR for four weeks, and I was thinking, they go three and one.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_03]: That's confirmation that we have ourselves ahead coach here for a long time.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_03]: They went one and three, and they look bad in the one and three.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_03]: And then tool comes back, and then everything's hunky dory again.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_03]: They start looking like themselves again.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_03]: And you just think of yourself, boy, we got the wrong guy.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_02]: I just knew, I just knew it was kind of a matter of time, though.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_02]: My somebody would be like, oh, you're so down about them instead of I'm like, you don't realize my exact words of them.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_02]: I'm grieving three seasons right now.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not just grieving 24.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not just grieving 24.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm grieving the entire 24 season, the entire 25 season and the entire 26 season because I know that those are all those are all going to be trash now.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the Facebook moment was that that bill's game in 2024 in Buffalo, Buffalo is running away with the division.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_03]: They have a great team, the one seed.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we're not supposed to even be in the game and we go toe to toe.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_03]: We look great in doing it to it drives the length of the field.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_03]: They tie the game and you lose on the 61 year field.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_03]: Well, and you're like, all this was for nothing.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_03]: And Buffalo is the one who puts the finishing touches.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_03]: on that team, that build, and that's it.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_03]: Well, the next time you hear from us, we'll be about two weeks from now, and it'll be season nine in new season with a new front office, a new head coach, and a new roster.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: But, tell them.
- 57:32[UNKNOWN]: You
