- 0:16It is Wednesday. It is the 10th of May and you
- 0:21have pressed play and together. We are going to read another
- 0:25chapter of God's word. In this a chapter A Day Bible
- 0:28reading podcast because that as you know, is what we do and
- 0:32today somehow the scribes as they were assigning chapters and
- 0:37lengths decided that well, the story of the final plague was
- 0:42going to be broken into a couple of chapters.
- 0:44And so chapter 11 is ashore and it's only 10 verses long which
- 0:47is most unusual for Exodus but there you have it, it is what it
- 0:52is. And so we will read this story
- 0:55and this this can be a hard one for us to wrap our heads around.
- 0:58How a loving God. Do this.
- 1:00But this is a God who is also just and The God Who rescues his
- 1:05people and a God who hears their cries and responds to Cruelty
- 1:10and oppression with his Justice that is beyond our mere human
- 1:16Minds to wrap our heads around. So we trust and we know that God
- 1:20is good even as we read these stories.
- 1:24So having said all that join me, as we read together, Exodus
- 1:30Chapter 11. Then the Lord said to Moses, I
- 1:44will strike pharaoh and the land of Egypt with one more blow.
- 1:50After that Pharaoh will let you leave this country.
- 1:54In fact, he will be so eager to get rid of you.
- 1:57That he will force you all to leave.
- 2:00Tell all the Israelite men and women to ask their Egyptian
- 2:03neighbors for articles of silver and gold.
- 2:07Now, the Lord had caused the Egyptians to look favorably on
- 2:10the people of Israel and Moses was considered a very great man
- 2:15in the land of Egypt respected by pharaohs officials.
- 2:18And the Egyptian people are like Moses had announced to Pharaoh.
- 2:24This is what the Lord says. At midnight tonight, I will pass
- 2:29through the heart of Egypt. All the firstborn Sons will die
- 2:35in every family in, Egypt from the oldest son of pharaoh, who
- 2:39sits on his throne to the oldest son of his lowliest servant
- 2:44girl, who grinds the flower, even the firstborn of all, the
- 2:48livestock will die. Then allowed whale will rise
- 2:53throughout the land of Egypt, a whale like no one has heard
- 2:57before or will ever hear again. But among the Israelites, it
- 3:02will be so peaceful. That not even a dog will bark.
- 3:07Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction between the
- 3:11Egyptians and the Israelites. All the officials of Egypt will
- 3:16run to me and fall to the ground.
- 3:18Before me, please leave. They will beg.
- 3:22Hurry, and take all your followers with you, only, then,
- 3:27will I go? then burning with anger, Moses
- 3:32left pharaoh Now, the Lord had told Moses earlier, Pharaoh will
- 3:38not listen to you but then I will do even more Mighty
- 3:42miracles in the land of Egypt. Moses and Aaron perform these
- 3:47Miracles and Pharaohs presence, but the Lord hardened Pharaoh's
- 3:51heart and he wouldn't let the Israelites leave the country.
- 4:07Father, you are a magnificent, God Mighty.
- 4:12And so Majestic that we just cannot fathom you and the depths
- 4:18of your wisdom and justice. Lord, As you move in the world,
- 4:25in ways that we don't understand what our hearts were Despair and
- 4:31doubt that would help us turn to your scripture where you tell us
- 4:37without a shadow of a doubt that you are good.
- 4:41And that your nature your very essence is goodness.
- 4:46And we thank you for your consistent goodness in the
- 4:50universe and in our world. Thank you for your goodness, in
- 4:54our lives, and your faithfulness to us.
- 4:58And that when the time is needed, you rescue us in a way
- 5:02that we can only begin to imagine.
- 5:07So we submit to you and your glorious plans and your creative
- 5:13way of being in and around us. We love you and we are in awe of
- 5:19your mystery and your majesty. And We Praise You In The Name of
