- 0:01In various places, SRI aurobindo describes the possibility of
- 0:05pain becoming for the spiritual practitioner and intense form of
- 0:10spiritual Bliss Ananda. He is describing the
- 0:15psychological experience of a realized Soul who has separated
- 0:20himself from attachment to an identification with the physical
- 0:25body. This is intended to show that
- 0:29vibrations. Experience can have a different
- 0:31result when the individuals shifts, the standpoint of the
- 0:35Consciousness, it is not meant as a prescription to enjoy pain.
- 0:41If pain comes to one and one has the ability to distance oneself
- 0:46from it, through such means as a realized Soul, then it is
- 0:50psychologically neutralized, but the underlying cause of the pain
- 0:55is not resolved. For those who still have
- 0:59substantial identification with the body Consciousness and who
- 1:03are attempting to live a life in the world.
- 1:06Pain has both a purpose and a measure of usefulness.
- 1:11It alerts the individual to some issue imbalance or acute injury
- 1:17that needs to be looked after and it awakens the awareness to
- 1:22make some effort. Those were fully satisfied and
- 1:26comfortable tend to be less likely to take steps to achieve
- 1:29radical change in their lives than those who feel pressure or
- 1:33pain at some level. The mother has another Viewpoint
- 1:38that goes to the root of physical pain.
- 1:41Such pain is caused by injury, indisposition illness or disease
- 1:49the cause of the pain obviously needs to be addressed.
- 1:52Thereafter the mother points out the pain.
- 1:56No longer serves a useful purpose as it has already done.
- 2:00Its job of alerting, the individual to the concern One
- 2:04could feel that until the underlying cause is fixed.
- 2:08The pain remains as a constant. Reminder, yet it can be both
- 2:13distracting and counterproductive.
- 2:17Thus one should find a way to turn off the pain.
- 2:20After it is. Provided the necessary feedback
- 2:24from the part of the body that is affected.
- 2:27Of course, achieving such an ability to turn off pain,
- 2:31generally require some amount of discipline and self training.
- 2:37Yet, there are individuals who have undertaken, such a step.
- 2:41The philosophical approach of stoicism is very much rooted.
- 2:45In this idea, they're even popular examples of individuals,
- 2:50such as Harry. Houdini the famous escape artist
- 2:54who systematically bathed in ice in order to have custom his body
- 2:59to dealing with. What would ordinarily be.
- 3:02An extremely painful experience many Yogi's and show Women have
- 3:07shown tremendous ability to disassociate from Pain by
- 3:11walking on or sleeping on a bed of nails or walking over hot.
- 3:16Coals Etc. Boxers, learn to deal with the
- 3:20pain of taking blows other individuals.
- 3:24Learn how to accept and distance themselves from various insect
- 3:28or snake bites. We see numerous examples in the
- 3:32world of strategies to Simply do away with the the psychological
- 3:37connection of pain when the body is injured.
- 3:42There are individuals who are known as masochists who indeed
- 3:46take pleasure in painful experience.
- 3:48In this case, however, there is a vital satisfaction.
- 3:52They obtained through what is essentially a perverse calling
- 3:56upon oneself of pain. To try to achieve some vital
- 4:00excitement where satisfaction A disciple one to ask sweet
- 4:06mother. How can one transform pain into
- 4:08a form of pleasure? The mother responded but that's
- 4:14not something to be done. My children, I shall certainly
- 4:18not give you the method. It is a perversion, the first
- 4:23thing and the most indispensable is to nullify the Pain by
- 4:27cutting the connection. You see one becomes conscious of
- 4:31the pain because it is there For example, you have cut your
- 4:35finger. There's a nerve that has been
- 4:38affected and so the nerve quickly goes to tell the brain
- 4:41up there that something has happened, which is wrong here.
- 4:46That is what gives you the pain to awaken your attention to tell
- 4:49you you know there's something wrong.
- 4:52Then the thought immediately feels anxious, what's wrong?
- 4:56Oh how it hurts etcetera, Etc. Then returns to the finger and
- 5:01tries to arrange. What is not yet destroyed?
- 5:05Usually when puts a small bandage but in order not to have
- 5:09the pain, if it hurts very much, you must quite simply cut the
- 5:13connection by thought saying to the nerve.
- 5:17Now remain quiet. You have done your work, you
- 5:19have warned me, you don't need to say anything any longer.
- 5:23Plus I'm stopping you. And when you do it, well, you
- 5:27suffer no longer. It is finished, you stop the
- 5:30pain completely that is the best thing.
- 5:34It is infinitely preferable to telling yourself that it is
- 5:37painful. And quote, reference SRI
- 5:42aurobindo in the mother living within the yoga approached, a
- 5:46psychological health and growth, disturbances of the body and
- 5:50physical consciousness. Will discipline endurance Pages
