Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Today's program was one of the most difficult broadcasts to prepare for that have ever experienced as the host of Bible tract echoes.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: Dr. Paul Oveen, the founder of this radio broadcast and our larger ministry Bible tracks incorporated
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get the lions a share of our time today as he shares a true story from about fifty years ago.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, you might want to have some tissues nearby.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Would you listen intently as he shares with us this amazing testimony?
- 0:43[SPEAKER_02]: Paul said, I know whom I have lead and I know
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: He's able to keep that which I've committed under him.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so that day, he committed the salvation of his soul to Jesus Christ and he said, Jesus Christ, I committed my salvation of my soul to him and he's able to keep me until that day.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: And what Paul is saying is, if I go to hell, it'll be his fault.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: And brother, he is never going to fail.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: So nobody's going to go to hell after they commit the salvation of their soul to the Lord Jesus.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: One day the Lord Jesus talked on some folks and they came running over there and they said, they said, the demons are subject to underworld.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, this is great.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: And the Lord is much to say, well, that's nothing.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to really rejoice, listen to this, rejoice because you know, K and O. W. Rejoice because you know that your names are written in heaven.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: That's the noun who?
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: Who said you can't know?
- 1:47[SPEAKER_02]: say who says you can't know you say the Lord Jesus says rejoice because your names are in heaven and the idea is that you can not you can rejoice unless you knew it and then John John said in first John three fourteen he said this we know see
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: All his think so hope so Ben is not in the Bible.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's just in men's mind.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: We know we pass on death on the life because we love the bread and all right so Paul said I know and the Lord Jesus says you can know and John says we know I wonder if you know let me tell you a true story a little straight what I've been trying to tell you so far.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: I was in Iowa in meetings and It was virul couple air and
- 2:34[SPEAKER_02]: His name was Bernie and I forgot him.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: His wife's name, Mr. Mrs. Holland.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: And they got an awful automobile right here.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: So they were in the hospital.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: And the first thing they thought they were going to die.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: But they rallied for a while.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: And they were doing fairly good.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I was up there to see them in the hospital while we were there in meetings.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: And I knew them well, but they've been there before meetings.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: But one night at midnight, we got a telephone call, a pastor did, and I was staying with a pastor, and when a pastor stayed, when a pastor stayed with a pastor, he'd hardly ever get any sleep.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: So we were just getting going good on a Bible conference, or something as midnight, and here came this call from the hospital.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: And the call from the hospital said, Pastor, you better get down here as a hospital.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: Bernie's lungs are filling up with blood, and he'd go and die now.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: So we got ready, and we weren't right down there.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we got down to the hospital.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: We walked in the room with very dimly lighted.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: We walked in, and here was Ernie, cropped up on a lot of pillows, and he had this little rail on each side of the bed.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_02]: And we walked in, and there was his son standing on his right, his daughter was standing on his left, and then the pastor and I stood at the floor of the bed.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: No, I was standing alongside the sun over here on on Bernie's right.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: After a little bit, Bernie, the man who's dying, looked up at his son and said, am I going home tonight?
- 4:17[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't mean home back to the farm.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: He knew he wasn't going back to the farm.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: When he said home, he meant heaven.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: Then I should talk about heaven as your home.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: I remember.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: The sun said to him, when he said, you leave, aren't going home tonight.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_02]: The sun said, yes, we leave.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_02]: Dad, if you're going home tonight, said, you don't mind if we stay here with your wilde.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: And the father said, oh, oh, I don't mind you stay here.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: He said, I just wondered how come you're here so late.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: He said, I just wondered why you'd be here so long.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: You see, he was so alert.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: He was so alert that he knew that it was about midnight, even though he couldn't see a clock and couldn't hear anybody talking.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: And it was about, he said, it's about midnight, isn't it?
- 5:04[SPEAKER_02]: And it was about midnight.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: So he sang.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, in the meantime, they had taken his wife out of the room, she shared that same room.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: And it took her, it took her off because they didn't want her to be there when he died.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: So they took her out, and took her down the hallway, up in elevator, to the next floor.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: Up there, while we're down here visiting with her, and up there, she said to a nurse, a Christian nurse who told us about it later, she said to this Christian nurse, you know what?
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: She said, I forgot to tell Paul goodbye.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: She said, no wonder, maybe somebody could take me back down there, so I could tell Paul goodbye.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: or sure Mrs. Talon, somebody taking on their insults.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: In the meantime, I had slipped around so I was standing right behind Ernie's bed.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: So he was his face to face in that way.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: The pastures of the poor of the bed, the daughter there, the son here, and I was behind the bed, right by Ernie's hands.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: All of a sudden, a door opened over here.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: And then came Mrs. Talon, flat on her back, on her hospital cot.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_02]: she couldn't even have a pill.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: But when we saw her being ruled in the room, I guess everybody had the same idea that when anybody said anything about it, it wasn't anybody who told Bernie that he was getting company and who the company was.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: But they just rolled her, caught right, parallel with his bed.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm a set of words.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_02]: And Bernie couldn't move.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: He couldn't turn around and look.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: lying there, he'd get ready to die, and only looking straight ahead.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: And then she slipped her left hand through the bars of that bed.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: And she slipped her hand past his teeth and found his teeth, and she began to pat him on the teeth.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: But as he knew, he knew whose hand that was, he grabbed her arm immediately, and she pat him on the teeth.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'll never forget it.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: She said, very sweetly, goodbye.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: And he stroked her hand and he said, goodbye to you.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: You've been a warm, ripple white to me.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: Many, many years, over fifty years.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: Now those words I remember word for word, after that they talked back and forth.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: And while he told me his hand, for the last time on earth, they both knew it.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: This was it.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: He said, I believe I'll sing for you again.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: So this time he's saying, take the name of Jesus with you, child of sorrow and the wolf.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: It would joy and comfort you.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: You take it then, where air you go, precious name, all how sweet, hope of earth and joy of heaven.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody was crying, except early.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: He was the follower doing the die-hand, and he was the only one who wasn't crying.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: He had one tier ruling down one team.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: And he's saying, and he dropped his wife in, and they talked a little more, made a little of each other.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: It was a whole week time, I'm telling you.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_02]: And then she said, well, poth, it was so casual.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's like they were going to see each other in the morning, which was the sun came up.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: She said, well, poth, they want me to go now.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: No one had said anything to her about leaving.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: But they were very kind.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_02]: They weren't these kind of Christians and people are always dependent on their rights.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: We pay for their food, or nobody's taken us out of here, and we're demanding our rights.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I'm saying?
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: Paul, they want me to go now.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_02]: So goodbye, Paul.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: This is the last time they were going to say goodbye to each other on earth and keep patting on the teeth and stalked their hand and he said goodbye here.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: And before our hand loosened, we were out.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_02]: And as they started down the hallway,
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: the pastor and I tagged him on with our boy, we better say something to her.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to go all the pieces now.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: He said, good, by the other one, that she'd walked with for fifty-some years in a wonderful, close, Christian, holy marriage.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: Boy, we better help with it.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: The time we got to caught up, they had her in the bed, and she hadn't had any set of his and he had he.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: No set of his of any kind.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: So we were wondering, what are we going to say?
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we didn't have to worry.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: She did the talk.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: And she said, pastor, he said, you know, sooner or later, all the families are going to have to be part of it.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: What happened to us is, you know that, don't you?
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: You've been asked to that little, you know a lot about the cemetery.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: You said goodbye to Mama and Daddy.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: for a husband, for a wife, for a little child, or a little baby.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: So how many have been out there?
- 10:26[SPEAKER_02]: You've got loved ones got two souls are in heaven, but their bodies are in the graveyard.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see your hand.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know what I'm talking about?
- 10:33[SPEAKER_02]: Sooner or later, families have to separate.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'll tell you what's sad.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's sad with families, you know what, families don't have to be separated in heaven.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: But what sad is what wins
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: One or more members of a Christian family says, I'm not going to be a Christian.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: And my wife may go to heaven, but I'm not.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_02]: My husband may go to heaven, but I'm not.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: And my parents may go to heaven, but I'm not.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: So your wife goes to heaven and you decide to go to hell.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: You're parted forever.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: Or your husband decides to go to heaven and you decide to go to hell.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: So you're parted forever.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, your parents go to heaven.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: You two, I won't be a Christian.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: So your parents go to heaven.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_02]: You go to hell.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: There's separation forever.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: Or your children go to heaven in mind.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: That's how we'll be a Christian.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: And your children go to heaven and you go to hell.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: Now that kind of separation doesn't need to be.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't understand people who don't love their wife enough to be get to be a Christian husband.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand the woman who doesn't love her husband enough to say, I'll be a Christian wife.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: And I can't understand prayers.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: Who don't love their children enough to say, if my children are saved, I want to love them enough to go to heaven with them.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't understand girls and boys whose daddy's and mommy's are saved in these children.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: Say, we're not going to be saved.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: That my folks go to heaven.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to reject Christ someday, and we'll go to hell, and that'll be it.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: And families are parted forever in each other.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: And that's not what he was talking about.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's talking about family being part of none.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: And you know what?
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: Even though she just met goodbyes, her beloved.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: She had the joy of salvation, yet for the peace, and she didn't have a status in it.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: And she gave a test that moons her, I'll never forget.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: I can say for myself that I've been blessed to be a part of today's broadcast.
