- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? I'm every nightmare you've ever
- 0:14had. I'm your worst dream come true
- 0:16on everything ever were afraid of.
- 0:19Welcome to What's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:21The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly, and
- 0:24the absurd, and all of our favorite.
- 0:26And least favorite scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:29movie rightfully has its fan base, even if we don't always
- 0:31get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:33My name is Jessie. And welcome back, everybody,
- 0:35because today we have a special episode for you all.
- 0:38We are talking about Stephen King's It 1990 version, the TV
- 0:44miniseries, Yes. So 3 hours and 12 minutes of
- 0:49early 90s glory. It's a big old movie, big old TV
- 0:53show, so we got a lot to cover here today, so we're going to
- 0:56speed through the opening stuff here real quick.
- 0:58Announcements, Jesse. No.
- 1:01No announcements. OK.
- 1:03Well, I've got her poll results from last week's episode.
- 1:06We talked about Infinity pool. Yeah, we did.
- 1:08So Jesse came up with this neat little situation here.
- 1:12So. The question is, you're arrested
- 1:16and sentenced to death. Would you rather double yourself
- 1:19to serve your punishment? Or would you rather go into the
- 1:22cube? And the cube we are referencing
- 1:24is the cube from cube, obviously cube, cube squared cube 0.
- 1:29If you're not familiar, just check the series out.
- 1:32They're pretty interesting movies, but do you not find it
- 1:36infuriating that the third cube is not called cube cubed?
- 1:40Cube cubed? Oh, wow.
- 1:41Yeah, you know what? That is a missed opportunity
- 1:43right there. Or that could have been the
- 1:45sequel. Well, the sequel is cube
- 1:47squared, which makes sense because then you just put the
- 1:49two up there as the exponent. I feel like the two should be
- 1:53the cubed though. I know it doesn't make sense
- 1:55numerically, but listen that not important.
- 1:58It also doesn't make sense mathematically.
- 2:01No, it doesn't. None of it makes sense.
- 2:03The movie doesn't make sense. All right, so on Instagram, 85%
- 2:08of the people would rather be doubled and 15 would rather be
- 2:11cubed on Twitter. 75 wants to be doubled, 25 ^3 and we got our
- 2:18blue ski vote. Blue ski?
- 2:21Yeah man, that's a double. Big old double.
- 2:24Most people would rather just let another version of
- 2:27themselves suffer in their place and I respect that.
- 2:33I would go the cube option though, because I don't want to
- 2:37see myself suffer and just give me a fucking puzzle, man.
- 2:42I will. I'm going to die no matter what.
- 2:46So it's it's over with. No matter what, there's going to
- 2:49be a version of me dying. So give me the cube.
- 2:51Let me try. I'll have an opportunity, at
- 2:53least it it feels a bit like we created a trolley problem for
- 2:57ourselves. Almost a little bit.
- 2:59Because I I agree with you. I would go with the Cube, but
- 3:02more from my perspective of the level of involvement I want to
- 3:07have in my own punishment. I want to have choice.
- 3:11I want to go out with some dignity of some sort instead of
- 3:14hiding behind a double. Not that I'm like condemning the
- 3:17people that would want to hide behind a double.
- 3:19I just more of like it's a little bit of an anti
- 3:23authoritarian approach I suppose, because they're both
- 3:26corrupt police systems that we're dealing with here, unfair
- 3:30trials and whatnot, and I think going into the cube at least got
- 3:36a fighting chance. Yeah, you got a chance, yeah.
- 3:39I agree. All right, cool.
- 3:41Well, that's it for our poll. So let's talk about it.
- 3:45Yeah, yeah, Talk about. What it what it does this way
- 3:50for anything that's just. It OK.
- 3:53I didn't know if that was like like, stood for, like,
- 3:57interesting technology. Interestingly, Tim Curry OK, so
- 4:06that joke's away it oh, the bad jokes aside, is that what we're
- 4:10doing? Is that what we're doing?
- 4:12We're throwing them out. No more change of pace for this
- 4:14show. No more bad jokes this episode,
- 4:16All right. We're steering a nice little
- 4:18course here. All right, So this is an
- 4:21interesting one because this is our first TV series that we've
- 4:25ever covered on the show. So the way that this was, it
- 4:29premiered November 18th, 1990. That is episode one.
- 4:34Episode 2 premiered November 20th, 1990 at wide release on
- 4:39ABC because that is the network that it premiered.
- 4:42We watched it on our DVD because that's what we own.
- 4:46That's how we do it. However, if you do want to
- 4:49stream this movie, you can watch it on Tubi.
- 4:52That is the only streaming service that currently has it if
- 4:56you want to stream it through a service, or you can rent it
- 5:00through Amazon or Apple. Written by Warren Steve Cohen,
- 5:06who if that sounds familiar, that's because he wrote another
- 5:09Stephen King movie he did carry, and joining him is Tommy Lee
- 5:16Wallace, who if that sounds familiar, he.
- 5:19Wrote and directed Halloween three.
- 5:22Season of the Witch directed by Tommy Lee Wallace, music by
- 5:27Richard Bellis, and special effects make up Bart Mixon as
- 5:32the Supervisor. And he had a whole team
- 5:34underneath him cast for this. This is the first time that I
- 5:39have ran out of people to list. I had to write it on the back.
- 5:45So OK, so I've got this as adult.
- 5:50And then their kid counterpart. OK, so First off we have Richard
- 5:54Thomas who plays Bill. Don bro, Don bro den bro.
- 6:00I. My E looks like I know Here.
- 6:02Bill Dembrough, welcome to my world.
- 6:04Yeah, so he plays the adult version of Ben or Bill.
- 6:09God to me. Bees.
- 6:10Alright, He plays the adult Bill.
- 6:12And then we have Jonathan Brandis, who plays kid Bill.
- 6:15OK Harry Anderson plays adult Richie.
- 6:18Seth Green plays kid Richie. Yeah, Dennis Christopher plays
- 6:23adult Eddie. Adam Ferrazel plays Kid Eddie.
- 6:29Annette O'Toole is adult Beverly, and Emily Perkins is
- 6:34Kid Beverly. Tim Reed as adult Mike, Marlon
- 6:39Taylor as Kid Mike. John Ritter plays adult Ben.
- 6:45Brandon Crane plays Kid Ben. Richard Mast Masseur plays adult
- 6:51Stanley. Ben Heller plays Kid Stanley.
- 6:55Olivia Hussey plays Ultra and Tim Curry plays Pennywise and
- 7:03there are so many more names that I could have included, but
- 7:07that was enough. I'm on the back of my page.
- 7:09I don't need to keep going. This cast is so stacked, it
- 7:13could be a special at Denny's. Yeah, that is true.
- 7:17There's actually a quote from Tommy Lee Wallace about working
- 7:20with the stacked cast because she says.
- 7:22Let me pull it up here because I think it is interesting.
- 7:25It's on the Wikipedia page here. It's like right away.
- 7:27Also, I need everybody to know that multiple times throughout
- 7:30the weekend we watched maybe starring John Ritter, and every
- 7:33single time I made Travis pour one out for him because I love
- 7:37and miss that man. Rest in peace.
- 7:40OK, here's the quote. I was at first a bit intimidated
- 7:44by all by my All Star cast, but my fears were unfounded.
- 7:47They all turned out to be generous and supportive team
- 7:50players. The child actors were much more
- 7:52of a challenge. I'm especially proud of the
- 7:55adult child pairings as I think we made really astute choices
- 7:58and got really lucky, making it believable that the that that
- 8:02group of seven kids grew up to be that group of seven adults,
- 8:05which is not an easy feat. Okay, Tommy Lee Wallace, 2015.
- 8:12OK, time for us to play our favorite game on this show,
- 8:16Budget or Butt Ted. What do you got, Jesse?
- 8:21What do you think? Well, on the one hand, stacks on
- 8:24stacks on stacks. On the stacks, on the other
- 8:27hand, made for TV. Yes, so I'm going with Bug Ted.
- 8:33Bug Ted Well, Jesse, you'd be surprised.
- 8:36This is bona fide budget. Oh shit.
- 8:39This is a $12 million movie. Wow.
- 8:42And that's 12 million in 1990 money.
- 8:45Yeah, that's a lot. Well, I mean, look at the cast.
- 8:47And that's true. That's true.
- 8:51Stephen King was pretty popular this time of year, this time in
- 8:54his life, and I don't imagine his stuff came cheap.
- 8:58If you wanted to make stuff out of it, that's another discussion
- 9:03for another day. OK, I mean, he's literally got
- 9:05his $1.00 collection. I know that, I guarantee it.
- 9:09It's not on that though. It is going to be high dollar.
- 9:12If you want that you have to pay.
- 9:14So we don't have box office number since it's a TV show, but
- 9:18I do have the amount of viewers that add whenever it released.
- 9:22OK, that's fun. That's a fun new metric we've
- 9:24never had before. Yeah, getting new territory
- 9:26here. We got new things to explore.
- 9:28So this thing. Grossed 30 million viewers.
- 9:32OK, OK. Whenever it's premiered.
- 9:35So that's pretty insane when you think about it.
- 9:38That would have translated to a lot of money.
- 9:41Yeah. I just want to say you can just,
- 9:45you know, use pronouns when referring to the movie.
- 9:47You don't have to constantly refer to the movie by its title.
- 9:51Jesse I thought we said bad jokes are gone, we're not doing
- 9:54them. I didn't agree.
- 9:56OK, that's the reason. IMDb 6.8 out of 10 That seems
- 10:03fair. You know what from?
- 10:05And this is also in a world post the 2020 era remake.
- 10:12So it was like 2018 and 2020? No, it didn't come out COVID
- 10:17year. It's the following year.
- 10:19I think it's 2019, really. It felt like such a long gap,
- 10:22but that's mostly because Finn Wolf hard grew a foot in between
- 10:28filming Part One and Part 2. All of them did, yeah.
- 10:31They fucked themselves so hard with that.
- 10:35OK, so I've got 3 movies here that have a very easy theme for
- 10:41me to pull from because as I said, Stephen King was a very
- 10:45popular boy and he had three movies released that weren't it
- 10:50alongside it in 1990. So the first movie that they
- 10:55have here is Grave or that we have here, excuse me, is
- 10:59Graveyard Shift which that released October 26th, 1990.
- 11:05Budget 10.5 million in a worldwide gross of 11.6.
- 11:10IMDb 4.9. Wow.
- 11:15I'm not even familiar with that. We own it, though.
- 11:17We have it in our like a pack of Stephen King movies in there.
- 11:20Is that the moment David Arquette?
- 11:23I don't know. It's David Arquette, the Stephen
- 11:25King movie, Yeah. I've got it right here.
- 11:28Hold on, let me pull it up. No.
- 11:30But Brad dwarf's in it. No, David Arquette for sure
- 11:33isn't one. Yeah, go ahead, keep reading.
- 11:34I'm gonna find the David Arquette movie.
- 11:37Next up, Misery. Hell yeah.
- 11:40We've recently, or not recently, previously covered this.
- 11:44I'm bad with words. Today it's okay.
- 11:46What a shame for you know a podcast.
- 11:48I. Know it's not ideal, so Misery
- 11:52released. November 30th, 1990, so same
- 11:55month as it and I had a budget of $20 million, worldwide gross
- 11:59of 61.3 million and an IMDb score of 7.8.
- 12:05Big, big score. That's a big movie.
- 12:07People love that movie. Hell yeah, they do.
- 12:10I'm honestly kind of shocked to see IT have a higher score than
- 12:12It, though It is widely considered one of the best
- 12:16Stephen King adaptations of all time.
- 12:18It's a great movie. I love it.
- 12:20But I just people, you hear people talk about it more often,
- 12:24so you would imagine that it would be higher, but I guess
- 12:29not. And the final movie, This one's
- 12:32kind of interesting because it's a TV series adapted to a movie.
- 12:36It's Tales from the Dark Side, the movie that's released May
- 12:424th, 1990 with a budget of 3.5 million, worldwide gross of 16.3
- 12:47million and an IMDb score of 6.2.
- 12:50Okay. Did you find David Arquette?
- 12:52I'm still looking okay. I'm starting to think maybe I
- 12:56made this up at some point. I'm gonna just pause while you
- 13:01do that update. David Arquette was in Stephen
- 13:04King's writing The Bullet, which we also.
- 13:07So do we. OK, I've never heard of that
- 13:09movie. We own it and I've never heard
- 13:12that's saying something. Well, it's also saying something
- 13:14that there's approximately 300 Saving King properties and about
- 13:18half of them have been adapted for the screen, so.
- 13:20Yeah, and most of them in 1990, apparently.
- 13:24OK, I've got 3 taglines for this and you're gonna hate them.
- 13:28Oh my God, are they all like critic reviews?
- 13:30They're all basically like Stephen King.
- 13:33Gonna make you pee yourself. He's a master of pee pee beds.
- 13:38Master of pee pee beds. That's our tagline.
- 13:42Master of pee pee beds. Master of pee beds.
- 13:46Okay. Well, the actual ones here, So
- 13:48the one that's on the poster is the master of horror.
- 13:52Unleashes everything you were ever afraid of, okay.
- 13:56Which, yeah, not too bad. This one's a better way to say
- 14:00that exact same thing. You're every fear all in one
- 14:03deadly enemy. Yeah, that's explaining the
- 14:07movie without being like, hey, here's a review of the writer,
- 14:12like, which is a whole thing, don't get me wrong.
- 14:15I just like, I want a tagline to be, not a review.
- 14:19I want it to be your elevator pitch, You know what I mean?
- 14:21From the man who took away Michael Myers.
- 14:25Tommy Lee Wallace. I was like, what does Stephen
- 14:28King have against Michael Myers? And then I realized that you
- 14:31were talking about Tommy Lee Wallace.
- 14:32Yeah, cuz it's his movie too. Yeah, that's true.
- 14:35That's true. I got really excited when I saw
- 14:36his name. I saw.
- 14:37I saw your eyes light up. I didn't realize he did this
- 14:40honestly until, like, I started doing research.
- 14:42Like, motherfucker, you did this too.
- 14:44Wow, you redeemed yourself. You went from Halloween 3 and
- 14:47then you went and did it and everybody loved you and I don't
- 14:51know what else you did. I'm so sorry, but you seem like
- 14:55a cool guy and final tagline from the King of Terror.
- 15:00A chilling new dimension in horror.
- 15:03Again, it's just so vague. Yeah, I imagine that this is
- 15:07shit that they were like reading and like their teasers on ABC
- 15:10whenever, like they would show a trailer for it.
- 15:13Yeah, it just feels like they're pulled from, you know, how press
- 15:17and media get early access for reviews?
- 15:21Yeah, Specifically, it feels like lines being pulled from
- 15:24that or from the back of the novel It by Stephen King.
- 15:31You think Stephen King wrote these?
- 15:33No, I'm saying like people that reviewed it.
- 15:35No, I'm asking. They do the same thing on books.
- 15:38Oh, I know, I'm this is me just asking a stupid question, OK?
- 15:42You're the one that said no stupid jokes.
- 15:43I said no stupid jokes, no stupid questions are still on
- 15:46the line. Really.
- 15:47That was a legitimate question and not like a joke question.
- 15:50This is 1/2 and 1/2. OK, I got fun facts.
- 15:56Yeah, give me some fun facts. Let's move on.
- 15:59So there's like, way too much to talk about in a single episode
- 16:02for us on the show. So I tried to pull what I
- 16:05thought was the most interesting bits of information that's
- 16:07relevant. This was an ambitious
- 16:10undertaking. It is, yeah.
- 16:12And let's see how we do. So far, I think we're doing OK.
- 16:16So it began production after the success of Pet Cemetary in 1989.
- 16:22In fact, that's what caused this big boom of Stephen King movies,
- 16:26because it did so well, everybody was out to make one
- 16:29interesting. I'm not a huge fan of pet
- 16:31cemetary. I'm I like the original way more
- 16:36than the remake. I think it's like it's OK.
- 16:39But as an adaptation of the book, I think it's also just
- 16:43like that level of grief is really hard to capture on screen
- 16:50when you're also like, I don't know, it feels like the movie
- 16:53Pet Cemetery was more focused on like, ooh, Zombie Child versus
- 16:57like, you know, not to be pretentious, really good
- 17:01meditation on parenthood and groove.
- 17:04And when it goes and when it goes like the book is an
- 17:09absolute gut punch. So it just it doesn't live up to
- 17:15it for me. I'm not trying to brag as
- 17:18somebody that just doesn't read like you fucking nerds.
- 17:21You guys read books, but with Stephen King stuff, it probably
- 17:25does help to not have read most of his stuff.
- 17:28That way I can just go in and just accept the movie for what
- 17:31it is, 'cause I I thought Pet Cemetery was pretty sweet.
- 17:35It's got that boy from New Nightmare.
- 17:38Yeah, the kid actor. The kid that's like way too old,
- 17:41like because he goes not fair. Is he the kid that gets ran
- 17:46over? Yeah.
- 17:47Yeah. OK.
- 17:49A little wind to go, ABC acquired the rights to the
- 17:53miniseries of it and greenlit it to be an 8 to 10 hour series.
- 17:58It was originally planned to run over four or two hour blocks.
- 18:02Oh my God, Can you imagine? I know it would have talked
- 18:07about ambitious undertaking right there.
- 18:08That would have been crazy. It would have been so amazing.
- 18:11So one of the things, I haven't read the novel in a long time,
- 18:16you know, I would reread it, but what up, Zach.
- 18:19A friend borrowed it and moved out of the state all the way
- 18:24down in Texas. You know, there's that.
- 18:28I'm just kidding. Pay it forward, borrow it to
- 18:31give it away to somebody else. But it like, and this is
- 18:36something that the newer remake did a little bit more of, which
- 18:40is kind of demonstrating how the whole town is a little bit
- 18:46corrupted by the evil. They give a little bit of lip
- 18:49service to it in this in this one, you know where she talks
- 18:53about, yeah, Mr. Ross, and like the whole town is infected in
- 18:55some way. All right, cool.
- 18:56We can check that off the list. I think it's funny that they
- 18:59just say that, but that I guess just like, oh, an old man, like
- 19:02witnessed something horrible and that's fucking every town.
- 19:06That's not gonna be just like dairy.
- 19:08Oh whoa. He just turned a blind eye to
- 19:11like a woman being cornered by men.
- 19:13That happens everywhere. Yeah.
- 19:17So it it really does. The thought of having an 8 to 10
- 19:23hour like, yeah, limited series sounds amazing.
- 19:28It would be really great to explore dairy.
- 19:31Well, that's interesting because George Romero thought the same
- 19:33thing 'cause he was originally going to direct this movie.
- 19:37Yeah, so he he was super excited.
- 19:40He got like deep into the project.
- 19:42He went as far as working with effects guys already.
- 19:44He had already done storyboards, but scheduling conflict came up.
- 19:49He had to work on the Night of the Living Dead remake in 1990,
- 19:53which directed by Tom Savini. So you can thank Tom Savini for
- 19:57him not being part of the IT movie.
- 20:02So yeah, forced him to leave and then as he did that ABC shorten
- 20:06the series then to 4 hours. This upset George Romero being
- 20:11let go because it reminded him of him being let go from pet
- 20:15cemetery also. Ohh no.
- 20:18Which, yeah, fucking sucks. And that's zombies.
- 20:21And he's like, that's my territory, I can fucking do
- 20:24that. So yeah, could have had him do a
- 20:27couple of Stephen King things apparently.
- 20:30Ohh OK so after that happened it then got dropped to a three-part
- 20:35series and then after that once Tommy Lee Wallace signed on they
- 20:40then they then dropped it to a two-part series.
- 20:43They're like, my man's out here putting that Halloween three,
- 20:46you're gonna do two. We don't trust giving you like 4
- 20:50hours. What?
- 20:51Are you gonna do with that extra hour, Tommy?
- 20:53What are you gonna do? Take Pennywise away?
- 20:57But you would. So yeah, yeah, he like, read
- 21:02the, like, the first part of Cohen's script and he got into
- 21:07it. So he's like, yeah, sure, I'll
- 21:08direct that okay. And he initially avoided reading
- 21:12the book because he wanted to get an objective view on Cohen's
- 21:15draft. But he started noticing that
- 21:18there were issues in the script. So he offered Cohen to do a
- 21:21rewrite on. It Cohen couldn't do a rewrite
- 21:27because it wouldn't fit in his schedule.
- 21:28So this forced Tom Ilya Wallace to read the book and start using
- 21:34it to like just like as a guide while doing the rewrites.
- 21:38OK, which got a quote from him. As Wallace says, one of the
- 21:43things I believe I contributed in my rewrite was just packing
- 21:46in as much of what was memorable about the book.
- 21:48He added the flashback structuring from the book into
- 21:51the script and made sure the screenplay for the second part
- 21:53maintained some of the rhythm of the 1st.
- 21:57And can we? I would like to personally
- 21:59propose a toast to not adding the train run on Beverly in the
- 22:04sewer. Thank you, Tom and.
- 22:06Tom So I got something about that Annette O'Toole okay.
- 22:13She has a quote about that. Okay.
- 22:15She was actually upset that it wasn't in there.
- 22:18Oh, OK. But Annette O'Toole wouldn't
- 22:20have been the one who would have had to act it first of all.
- 22:23Second, you know what? I've got a quote from her here,
- 22:26OK? OK, let me let me hear her side
- 22:28of it before O'Toole has admitted to disliking the
- 22:32removal of the losers orgy scene, she says.
- 22:35This was their greatest attachment to one another.
- 22:37She thought they were all going to die and this was a gift she
- 22:40was given to each one of them and I thought it was the most
- 22:43beautiful, generous, love filled gift and it tied them all
- 22:46together in such an amazing way. No.
- 22:49What the fuck? No Okay, listen, that is
- 22:54literally Bev's mentality in the book.
- 22:57Because she was psychologically, sexually and physically abused
- 23:03by her father and then later on her live in boyfriend.
- 23:07That's not like it. Thinking that the only thing she
- 23:11had to offer was her body. And yeah, granted it was more
- 23:14than that because it was meant to like symbolize their like
- 23:17spiritual connection to one another and how it runs deeper
- 23:20and blah blah blah. But still, like they were
- 23:21thirteen years old, they went over one at a time.
- 23:25They all lost their virginity to her, and Ben was the only one
- 23:27that came. What?
- 23:29Yeah, they actually got that detail.
- 23:31Yes. Oh my God.
- 23:34Look, man. Like there's no way that you can
- 23:36defend it. Like the fact that a grown man
- 23:38wrote a child orgy seen into a book is really disturbing.
- 23:43And just I there's no defending it.
- 23:45Just it doesn't need to exist. There are better ways to tell
- 23:48that. The problem is that like they
- 23:50tried to build it up as it's this way that they built this
- 23:53connection and the way and that explains it, you know that it
- 23:56was Bev giving a gift of herself which it it's coming from a
- 24:00place that's literally not acknowledging the psychology of.
- 24:04What sex can mean between people and sex can be as meaningless or
- 24:09as meaningful as you want it to be.
- 24:11But like, that's such an oversimplification of it, and
- 24:13it's really kind of trying to hand wash away the whole thing.
- 24:16And once again, I must point out that and that a tool doesn't
- 24:19have a stake in it because she wouldn't have been the one
- 24:22acting it out. I mean, this is also for TV.
- 24:25Like, how the fuck can you do that on ABC?
- 24:28Yeah, like, no, that's not gonna fly.
- 24:32Oh man, I could. Ohh, I'm fired up about that.
- 24:35Yeah, sorry. So let's go into the whole made
- 24:39for TV process here. So because that this was a TV
- 24:42series had to follow a broadcast standardized practices, which
- 24:46this meant they were forced to limit the amount of violence,
- 24:50blood and gore displayed in the movie.
- 24:53So since blood couldn't come from any orifices, they worked
- 24:57around it by having it come out of physical objects.
- 25:01So that's why the balloon bursts in the blood, which I don't
- 25:04know, that happened in the books are not why on like Georgie's
- 25:09book was also leaking blood. Like that was just their way
- 25:12around it. You could do blood.
- 25:14It just can't come out of people.
- 25:15Well, and you know what? I kind of like that too.
- 25:17Because in addition to ooh, Spooky Blood, it's also like
- 25:20defying physics. Yeah, exactly.
- 25:22And it's playing into like a child, like overactive
- 25:24imagination on the things they're afraid of.
- 25:26And boom, there you go. Exactly.
- 25:27It still fits the theme of the story really well, yeah.
- 25:31Another thing that they had to overcome was Ben's dad's
- 25:34skeleton. So they were very antiskele
- 25:39meat. It has Mixon phrased it.
- 25:42So instead they went with seaweed, because that's also
- 25:46disturbing, Mixon says. They didn't want gore, They just
- 25:50were OK with rotten decayness. All right, so real thought.
- 25:54That was jerky on the man's Skelly.
- 25:56I thought that's what that was. Seaweed.
- 25:58I really wish. I really wish that we had a
- 26:02credit for Skeleton like we do in the original house on Haunted
- 26:06Hill. Yeah, Skeleton deserves more
- 26:09credits out there's. Yeah, Skeleton is like the
- 26:11biggest. Uncredited actor out there
- 26:13doesn't get the respect. Not no respect.
- 26:16Good to hear though on this show.
- 26:19We love you, Skeleton. OK, that's all that I got.
- 26:22I mean, there's so much more out there, but that's really that
- 26:26all I could get on the show because we're already almost
- 26:28half an hour in and we haven't even started talking about this
- 26:30movie. Sorry.
- 26:31And one more thought. On the whole Bev thing, it kind
- 26:33of pisses me off that like, she's the only girl in the group
- 26:36and it has to be her body and her sex with her.
- 26:40Only that, like, ties the group together.
- 26:42I'm sorry. It's just like, I mean,
- 26:44especially because there's the whole, like, Richie, Eddie
- 26:49subtext. I didn't get the Richie part in
- 26:53this one. I got it more in the sequel or
- 26:55not the sequel with that remake. But like, I definitely got Eddie
- 26:58in this, for sure. Well, like they do as they say
- 27:04it as much as they can. For 1990 ABC Television.
- 27:09Where is that in the book, by the way?
- 27:11The subtext is there. Yeah, like, actually.
- 27:13Like, Richie and Eddie are a thing.
- 27:15No, it's never like straight. They were like in love, though.
- 27:18They were as far as I remember, I don't think.
- 27:20It was ever directly said out loud, but it's there.
- 27:23The queer reading is there for it, OK And you know, at the end
- 27:27of this one, it says it should surprise nobody that he
- 27:29consistently works with somebody who looks and acts a lot like
- 27:32Eddie. Like that reading is there a
- 27:35little bit. I'm just really glad that the
- 27:36remake was able to take subtext and make it text.
- 27:39I didn't. I guess they didn't really do
- 27:41that part justice here because I the guy he was working with did
- 27:44not look like Eddie. No, they didn't.
- 27:46He looked like the guy from board.
- 27:47Bill says it, Then we'll have to believe it, right?
- 27:52OK, so we got all that out of the way, so it's time for us to
- 27:56go into the good, bad, ugly and absurd.
- 27:58OK, so you kick it off this week.
- 28:00Jesse, what do you like about this?
- 28:02Well, Tim Curry, First of all, I will never be mad about watching
- 28:07anything with Tim Curry in it, and I think he does a really
- 28:09good job with this because he can be really creepy and
- 28:12intimidating while also doing like the dumb jokes and making
- 28:17it like. Like, he's a clown, but also
- 28:21he'll eat your soul, you know what I mean?
- 28:23Like what he's doing. Do you have Prince Albert in a
- 28:26can? Why you gotta let him out?
- 28:28And it's got like Richie in a full panic and you can believe
- 28:31it and it feels like a clown bit, but it's still a scary
- 28:34clown bit for some reason, even though it's like.
- 28:36A completely canned bit. The funniest part is when he is
- 28:40kissing Ben and he's like kiss me fat boy.
- 28:43I guess It's so funny. I actually laugh at that part.
- 28:46Yeah, and so he's really great. I do like the way they did the
- 28:50the structuring of telling the story because it's fuck like an
- 28:54800 page book. I think it's over 1100 pages is
- 28:57what I saw on the Wikipedia. I guess it also depends on which
- 29:00version you read and whatnot, yeah?
- 29:05But yeah, it's a long book and I think to make it fit in the time
- 29:09they did, they did a really good job structuring it like how
- 29:11we're calling people back into dairy and they're each having
- 29:14their moment where they're like remembering it and then it also
- 29:17like ties into them not having much of a memory until they get
- 29:20to dairy. I think it ties all of those
- 29:22pieces in really well for the time constraint they had to work
- 29:27with and the fact that they're working with like a made for TV
- 29:30productions, they had different standards they had to work for.
- 29:32It's not just trying to get an R rating, it's like.
- 29:35How are we going to be allowed on prime time?
- 29:37You know? Yeah.
- 29:39So I think they did a really good job with that.
- 29:41And all of the acting is phenomenal.
- 29:43It is. It's all superb.
- 29:45And like I said, it's a stat cast.
- 29:47We've got Tim Curry, we've got Olivia Hussey, we've got Tim
- 29:50Reed, we've got Johnny in a minor.
- 29:52Role I know, like, that's fucking insane.
- 29:55She's she's like, a fucking good catcher.
- 29:58Like it is. We got a young Seth Green.
- 30:00He doesn't even sound like Seth Green yet.
- 30:02He doesn't. That was the thing that drove me
- 30:04crazy. Like, you don't sound like that.
- 30:07What happened to you? Did puberty?
- 30:08Went and reversed with you? It was weird.
- 30:12That's the tallest that man ever got.
- 30:14Yeah, He shrunk, seriously. And his voice got more higher
- 30:17pitched. Like it's weird.
- 30:18I don't understand it. Yeah, so it's just it's.
- 30:22I had like, and I still remember the first time watching this,
- 30:25rented it from Blockbuster. Hey, yeah.
- 30:28And I'm watching it downstairs in the dark alone.
- 30:33And I get to the end of part one.
- 30:35And then, like, we had to go somewhere.
- 30:37It's like, all right, time to go.
- 30:38And I was like. No, I need I, But it's scary to
- 30:43beat the clown. The thing about part one is it.
- 30:47And so abruptly that it scares me still to this day, like, oh
- 30:51shit, Stan kills himself. Oh my God, now we're getting
- 30:54creepy music on the menu. Like, what the fuck?
- 30:57Like, I can so remember. And I think that's what's really
- 31:00special about a movie like this is everybody can tell you where
- 31:02they were the first time they saw it.
- 31:04Oh yeah, I remember my first. I'm watching it too.
- 31:06Yeah, and I just think they did so.
- 31:09Much with it. And I always said that it's a
- 31:13movie that I feel like would benefit from the advances in
- 31:17technology in terms of effects and CGI and practical effects
- 31:22too. Don't get me wrong, you know, I
- 31:23love practical effects, but I think there's some stuff that
- 31:27technology and CGI can do for them too.
- 31:31But if this had been the only version of this we ever got, I
- 31:34would be perfectly content too. And I think it's still
- 31:37absolutely more than has earned its place in staying power for
- 31:42sure. All right.
- 31:45Go ahead, Okay. I'm trying not to go on too long
- 31:48because we've got a lot together with this movie.
- 31:51No, you're good. Yeah.
- 31:53So a lot of the things that you said are a lot of the things
- 31:56that I had written down here. Another thing.
- 31:59So like, OK, I remember at the end of the last episode you had
- 32:02mentioned that I said that I didn't like this movie.
- 32:05I could swear. So I think I thought about it
- 32:08and I think I remembered exactly what it was because we had tried
- 32:11watching it one time with our friends like a while back, and
- 32:15we were kind of like laughing at it.
- 32:18And I think that that really influenced my my perception of
- 32:22it at the time, because, like, we were just like drinking and
- 32:24having fun, weren't really taking it seriously.
- 32:27And I feel like we had recently watched the remake.
- 32:30So, like, things were just kind of coming across as data and
- 32:32cheesy for me at the time. But sitting down and actually
- 32:37watching it this past weekend, it was a different experience.
- 32:44I had a lot more respect for it. I appreciated what it was doing
- 32:48a lot more. I think it also helped having
- 32:51the like the atmosphere in the movie is great and I feel like
- 32:54we had like a nice overcast day that day.
- 32:56So like, it kind of gave like that good creepy atmosphere in
- 33:00our house and with our wamp like it just made everything come
- 33:04together nice. So like it had this nice creepy
- 33:08feeling to it. There is a thing that I feel
- 33:10like this movie does well, and this is somebody that hasn't
- 33:16read the book, but I hear a lot of criticisms that people have
- 33:19had about the other things before.
- 33:21And so one of the things that I liked about this one is I feel
- 33:25like this one does a good job with having both the adults and
- 33:30the kids. Yeah, I do feel like it works
- 33:33better with them intertwined the way that they did in this
- 33:36because in the remake they, I'm sorry, it's hard not to compare
- 33:39with the remake, but that was like the most recent like watch
- 33:43of it that I had. And also the problem with that
- 33:46is because it was a movie and not a show, they weren't filmed
- 33:49back-to-back the kid like that you can do.
- 33:52Stranger Things ran into the same problem.
- 33:55Oh, with one of the same actors, as a matter of fact.
- 33:57Yeah, exactly. Well, I mean, that's the thing
- 33:59though. You can do back-to-back films.
- 34:02People do that all the time. Stupid game.
- 34:03Well, they didn't even have the adults cast when they did
- 34:06chapter One, though That's a big mistake on their part.
- 34:09They taught themselves hard because having the adults and
- 34:13the kids and just like have that throughout the movie instead of
- 34:16like having one be the kid movie and one be the adult movie, it
- 34:19definitely benefits it. And I felt like I was actually
- 34:26able to like understand some of the things better in this one.
- 34:28Like, I don't know. Like, I never really realized
- 34:32that the whole thing about them, like if you leave dairy, you
- 34:35pretty much become successful. Like, yeah, you can have kids.
- 34:39What a metaphor for, like, small town.
- 34:42Yeah, it was weird. But like, I was like, oh shit,
- 34:45you know, like, I never really got that before.
- 34:47Not that you can't be successful in a small town, but just that,
- 34:50you know, like I think it. Helps to be open to more in the
- 34:53world. You said in the beginning of
- 34:55this that the remake drove home the way that that town was
- 35:00cursed more. But this one, I feel like it did
- 35:02it better for me because, like, I mean, they just like outright
- 35:05said it, which to me, like, I sometimes am dumb, so you need
- 35:09to actually say things for me to get.
- 35:12But yeah, if I had watched this and they hadn't outright said
- 35:15it, I don't think I would have gotten that.
- 35:17But yeah, like, I echo everything else.
- 35:19So you say Pennywise, it's fucking great.
- 35:22He's iconic. He's creepy.
- 35:25I love the design of that clown. I think the music in this is
- 35:28really creepy too, especially the menu music, which also
- 35:31scared Talia. To death.
- 35:32Oh my God. We will talk more about Talia at
- 35:35the end, but this scared the shit out of her.
- 35:37Yeah, it's just all effective to, like, make it like a nice
- 35:39creepy experience. And I think one of the things is
- 35:42that they just let him look like a clown.
- 35:45You know what I mean? I feel like sometimes clowns are
- 35:47like, we're gonna make him look like a creepy clown.
- 35:49But so much of it, like, yeah, he looks like a normal clown.
- 35:52Sometimes there's a little bit of, like, uncaniness to it.
- 35:55They'll do like the little changes like add in the fangs
- 35:57and stuff like that, but. A lot of it's just in the
- 36:01behavior that and I read something whenever I was like
- 36:05looking at this stuff. Before that, Tim Curry was kind
- 36:08of hesitant to play the role because he didn't want to go
- 36:10through those long makeup processes.
- 36:13So they, like, agreed to just give him very minimal, just be a
- 36:17normal clown. That's it.
- 36:19And then he was on board with. That you were also talking about
- 36:21the man who came up with his own makeup for Rocky Horror.
- 36:25Yeah, I mean, back then he was game.
- 36:27That was the 70s, you know, and. The No, but he specifically did
- 36:30something simple for that. Is that why he did that?
- 36:33Yeah, he's like, I want something simple, quick, easy to
- 36:36recreate. Won't take a ton of time in the
- 36:37chair. There we go.
- 36:38That's. That man knows what he wants.
- 36:40Good for him. And honestly, in both of those
- 36:43movies it works out for the best because they're very iconic
- 36:46characters. Well, and honestly, Tim Curry
- 36:48don't need the makeup. You can.
- 36:50He can carry that shit. Yeah, he can be creepy.
- 36:52He can Curry that shit. Yeah.
- 36:55OK, so let's let's talk about some bad for this movie.
- 37:01Honestly, I think just and this is coming as the perspective of
- 37:07a book reader, I think this is a fantastic adaptation.
- 37:11But like I said, when you're working with a like epic, and I
- 37:18mean that in the like sense of like a very long majestic story,
- 37:21like it's. A lot going on.
- 37:24It's hard to fit that into a three hour narrative.
- 37:28And they did the best they could and they chose to focus it on
- 37:32the seven, which makes the most sense, especially because you
- 37:36know that that was a big part of the book, is that there's seven
- 37:39of them. There's a lot of numerology
- 37:41involved. There's a whole thing and I some
- 37:45of it does get a little bit lost when you narrow that focus.
- 37:48Again, I understand why it was necessary.
- 37:51It just. Like I said, it would have been
- 37:54nice to see some more of that dairy world building.
- 37:58I can see that. Speaking of somebody who hasn't
- 38:02read the book, I have heard many things of a turtle and you know,
- 38:07like I I don't. I'm I'm sure it plays a very
- 38:12important role in the book, however.
- 38:14Sure. I wanted that part of it.
- 38:16I thought I wanted more of dairy.
- 38:18I'm speaking just as my own thing here.
- 38:20No, I I I agree. Like world building like dairy
- 38:23would have been cool. I I do feel like the second
- 38:26movie does a good job of that or not.
- 38:27The second the remake does a great job of that.
- 38:30But yeah, I think that some of that stuff is OK being left out.
- 38:35I think what we got is a very cohesive story.
- 38:37I think it ties them together well, I don't think.
- 38:40I think that they they must have done a good job cutting that
- 38:43stuff out because I didn't feel lost.
- 38:45Yeah. And I think it probably helps a
- 38:47little bit that Tommy Lee Wallace started it from a place
- 38:50of I'm going to read the script and then he kind of filled in
- 38:52the gaps by reading the book rather than the other way Rams,
- 38:55which normally people would be so pissed if you didn't read the
- 38:58source material. But it kind of worked out I.
- 39:00Think a lot of people that have read the source material are
- 39:04like, no, you left the right parts out OK?
- 39:09Like in the It's so convoluted. How they defeat it in the book?
- 39:14Which it's one of those things, sure.
- 39:16It's fun to read about because it's a whole like fantasy land
- 39:20in a way really, really hard to capture on film.
- 39:23As I think we saw attempting to do the Ritual of CHUD, or
- 39:26whatever the fuck it's called in the remake, I think you're
- 39:32talking about CHUD. No, it's pronounced a certain
- 39:35way. I don't.
- 39:36I don't. It's a whole fucking thing.
- 39:39I like that it's simplified. But yeah, I do think we missed
- 39:43out on some of the larger world building though, OK?
- 39:47Is that all for your bad? Yeah.
- 39:48All right, so I got a couple things here.
- 39:50OK, so First off, I always find it super distracting that
- 39:56Stephen King inserts himself in every fucking thing that he
- 40:00does. Bill is so obviously Stephen
- 40:03King, a fucking horror movie writer or a horror book writer
- 40:07or whatever that is working on a movie.
- 40:10It's not even that. It's the way adult Bill is
- 40:12styled, too. And it's like it's so.
- 40:16Obvious. It's almost like he's like in I
- 40:18have a super hot wife, Olivia Hussey, and I write horror
- 40:21movies and I'm super successful. Like it's just like, it's so
- 40:25distracting. It kind of takes me out of it
- 40:26every single time. Like that's that's Stephen King
- 40:29right there. He's definitely writing himself
- 40:30right here. It just always takes me out of
- 40:32it especially. I feel like this is the worst
- 40:35offender of them all, though I'm not mad about it.
- 40:38That's fine, but that's a negative for me.
- 40:41That's it's just one of my things.
- 40:43I think it helps him to be a better writer if he can insert
- 40:46himself in the story that way. Bill is not the most interesting
- 40:49character in this movie. Oh, I agree.
- 40:52I'm just saying I think it helps him put himself in the story a
- 40:55little bit better. If he's got a character, he can
- 40:58OK relate. To all right my second thing.
- 41:01Henry Bowers is kind of a non factor in the second part of
- 41:03this movie. I completely, I had him blown up
- 41:07so much in my mind and then we get to his part in Part 2 and I
- 41:11was like, ohh that was over real fast.
- 41:14They like they basically just swat him away and like ah and
- 41:16he's like alright, so Henry's dead I guess he got hair white
- 41:22and he got saved by opinionwise dog so I don't fucking know.
- 41:28And then the other thing, why don't they simply attack it when
- 41:33he's not in the sewer? Why do they never just pounce on
- 41:37him whenever he is? You know, they're out in the
- 41:40open or like antagonizing them when they're all together.
- 41:44I think it's that fear of not because they've all seen what it
- 41:48can turn into. So I think there's that fear of
- 41:51it. And it's also just a little bit,
- 41:53you know, the whole thing about a childhood fear, childhood
- 41:56nightmare. Like it is really hard to jump
- 42:02head first into something that is a great unknown.
- 42:06And this is not even just the metaphorical, like, you know,
- 42:10jumping head first into the unknown.
- 42:12They're small children. They literally don't know what
- 42:14his full capabilities are. I'm.
- 42:16Speaking of them as an adult also, because it happens many
- 42:20times whenever they're at the motel, they like penny wise.
- 42:24It's just like fucking with all of them.
- 42:26They could have just easily just fucking ganged up on him like,
- 42:29hey, he's here and then they just start beating the shit out
- 42:31of him. To be fair, that is what they
- 42:32end up doing. In the sewer, not in the actual
- 42:36motel. Like they're all like ah,
- 42:37because Pennywise isn't like it's true form, It's just the
- 42:42form it uses most easily to move around dairy.
- 42:45But he could like it's still him.
- 42:46He's not like portraying. He's not, like, doing like, an
- 42:50image of himself from within the sewer.
- 42:54Like he's still, like he can still feel obviously.
- 42:58Like he's still, like, physical, Yeah.
- 43:01It's just, you know, that wouldn't have killed him all the
- 43:03way. Well, it would have helped
- 43:06instead of, you know, that's just a thing.
- 43:08I'm offering an explanation. I know.
- 43:10I'm just offering a bet. There's got to be something bad
- 43:13about this thing. All right?
- 43:15Absurd. Ugly.
- 43:17No, no. Ugly.
- 43:17I'm sorry. Ugly.
- 43:18Yeah. Yeah.
- 43:18You know, like how racism and homophobia are and fat phobia
- 43:29and slut shaming and, you know, ableism, all all of the things
- 43:37that the losers represent. And even having to say, like,
- 43:39that the losers are representing them feels a little bit ugly.
- 43:43Yeah, yeah, there there's. And I think that's an important
- 43:45piece that we've got these quote UN quote outcasts and they're
- 43:49all coming together and they've all faced like widely normalized
- 43:57social like outcasting. I'm reusing that word.
- 44:02But you know and the fact that they're all stronger together
- 44:06for it, but it also it just it's like literal othering.
- 44:10So it's I, I mean, it's just it's just an ugly fact of our
- 44:15society. Yeah.
- 44:18I agree with all that. And I also think like in
- 44:21particular like other than like the racism is racism is one of
- 44:24the worst things. Yeah, Mike's characters.
- 44:26How do we get, how are we not allowed to have blood coming out
- 44:29of orifices? But we're allowed to have a hard
- 44:32R What the fuck, ABC? America, this is just America.
- 44:38Jesus can't say gay. But go ahead and say one of
- 44:42like, yeah, I'm not gonna say it.
- 44:46Yeah. No, no, but.
- 44:48Hate speech. Yeah, you're right.
- 44:49It's really jarring to just hear it out right there.
- 44:53I don't know. That's kind of not cool that
- 44:55they allow that to be on TV, but whatever.
- 44:59I think also Eddie's mom. Is really, really fucking shitty
- 45:04in this. Like the fact that she lied
- 45:06about him having. I mean, that's a full of
- 45:08Munchausens by proxy, right? Like.
- 45:10Yeah, it's it's just so fucked up.
- 45:12Like you make him think that you're like he's got something
- 45:15wrong with his lungs, but it's just like an inhaler full of
- 45:18water. Like it's just it's so fucked
- 45:21up. That's like, yeah, so that those
- 45:25are the uglies of this movie, I guess, Yeah.
- 45:27Well, especially because like I use an inhaler, like, and it's,
- 45:31well, I use multiple inhalers because I have actual like
- 45:34asthma that's been tested multiple times, gets tested
- 45:37regularly to see how my medication levels are doing all
- 45:40of that. And there's certain things that
- 45:44you can breathe through and there's certain things that you
- 45:46need actual medication to get your lungs to stop being stupid.
- 45:50And it's clear with Eddie that like the medication helps them,
- 45:56but in part because it's forcing him to take deep breaths.
- 46:00So maybe if his mother actually like helped nurture, you know,
- 46:06the self reliant parts of himself, he could be a more well
- 46:12adjusted adult. But she's just super selfish
- 46:15instead and just has to have Eddie for her entire life.
- 46:18He won't. He's not allowed to be an adult.
- 46:21It's so fucking crazy, but she's clearly got some of her own
- 46:24stuff going on. Oh yeah, it doesn't excuse her
- 46:28ruin in his life. No, not at all.
- 46:30That's fucked up, man. Eddie.
- 46:31And then he dies. Like, Eddie just gets the worst
- 46:33of it in this movie and he gets called Spaghetti Man.
- 46:36Yeah, Spaghetti Eddie. OK, absurd.
- 46:45I mean so much of it. Because like, it's literally
- 46:50like things like voices in the sewer and drain pipes being
- 46:57pushed wide open and yeah, like it.
- 47:01And it's absurd in a great way. Like and it it's played so
- 47:06perfectly straight, like as straight as you can play a clown
- 47:12by Tim Curry. Like he does such a good job
- 47:15with it and it's just it's all absurd nightmare slash clown
- 47:22stuff, but it's just fantastic. Yeah, I've wrote down a few
- 47:31things, OK. So I think it's so fucking
- 47:36absurd that everybody in this friend group became super
- 47:40successful. That's not realistic.
- 47:44That's so weird. Like, I get it.
- 47:46I guess. Like.
- 47:48Oh, you leave dairy. You're not cursed anymore.
- 47:49You're going to be success. But it's just so fucking
- 47:53ridiculous that everybody became this huge, like famous people.
- 47:59Big horror author, big comedian, big architect, big cab driver,
- 48:05service guy. Well, some of that's just like
- 48:09businessmen, you know? But it's absurdly successful.
- 48:13Like when if you take this. Sample of kids and find out how
- 48:19these people actually turn out as adults.
- 48:22It's not going to be that stacked in their favor.
- 48:25There's might be one person that is super successful while the
- 48:29rest of them are not. Part of that is the suspension
- 48:31of display. If you have to have one reading
- 48:33a book because your main characters need to be
- 48:36interesting, something has to hinge upon their abilities.
- 48:39I think it's interesting that they have a shit life and
- 48:41they're like, oh fuck no, I got to go deal with this shit.
- 48:44That sounds way better to me. Like, ah, so I'm over here doing
- 48:47my next movie. Oh, what?
- 48:49It's back off. Fuck.
- 48:50All right, I'm going back to dairy.
- 48:51I kind of like not being stressed for them, not being
- 48:55able to pay their bills. Cuz normally when something like
- 48:57that happens in a movie and it's somebody that's like struggling,
- 49:01working a shitty job and it's like, oh cool, now I have to
- 49:04take unpaid time, buy a plane ticket.
- 49:07I can't afford a hotel stay. I can.
- 49:10I'm stressed for those people. It's nice not to be stressed for
- 49:13them. I I disagree.
- 49:14The worst that's going to happen is they might die.
- 49:16I think it's better to have people that you relate to.
- 49:20I don't relate to these people. I relate in the wrong ways when
- 49:24that happens though. Well, I mean, I just find it way
- 49:27more believable. And these, they're just like,
- 49:29oh, whatever, OK, you're a fucking rich architect.
- 49:32Whatever, man. Go fight a clown.
- 49:33I guess I don't give a shit. I think that it's also
- 49:40ridiculous that a group of kids making a promise and then as
- 49:44adults they all stick true to their promise that they made as
- 49:48children. That's not going to happen.
- 49:51Stan doesn't. Richie almost doesn't.
- 49:55Stan doesn't, but like, he has. Like his whole other reason.
- 49:59He could have just said Nah and just like stayed alive.
- 50:02But he didn't. And then the final battle, the
- 50:08whole just beat up a spider. Yeah, and the spider, like, they
- 50:13run up to the spider and like, cow tip it and they just start
- 50:16punching its tummy and the spider doesn't, you know?
- 50:20Doesn't even do like the cat like kicking you with.
- 50:22It's like, you know, chest like that right there.
- 50:25Like it just like, ah, well, Bev had already hit it with the
- 50:28silver, so it was injured, boy it was.
- 50:32And I was getting close to the end of its hunting season.
- 50:34For for a giant spider, it's just very underwhelming.
- 50:39Honestly, and I'm terrified of spiders.
- 50:41But that spider? Not so much.
- 50:45OK, that's it for all of that. So let's give it our ratings.
- 50:49So what do you want to rate this thing?
- 50:538 out of 10. 8 out of 10, OK, I think, honestly, I'm right there
- 51:02with you. I think that this is like a
- 51:03solid 8, All right? It's pretty fucking good.
- 51:06So we're starting off with an average of eight. 8 Alright,
- 51:09right. Are we ready to go through it?
- 51:10Let's do it. And we might go through a little
- 51:13bit quicker pace than normal just because there's a lot of
- 51:15ground to cover. So that's, yeah, we're not
- 51:18trying to rush through, just don't want to take up three
- 51:20hours if you're all stay. Yeah, OK, All right.
- 51:23So we start off seeing a little girl being called in by her
- 51:29mother and as she starts to come in she sees Pennywise in the
- 51:34clothesline and then when the mom comes out to check on her,
- 51:39we just see the tricycle tipped over and the mom started
- 51:42screaming. This scared the shit out of me
- 51:45as a kid. Whenever I watched it, it's such
- 51:47a good cold open. It is.
- 51:49And the little laugh that he gives there is like go, but it
- 51:56scares you And it's so weird and I don't know, it's it's weird.
- 52:00It does a good job of like putting you in that space
- 52:03though. And then Mike comes up to ask
- 52:05one of the detectives about some of the details, cuz he's
- 52:08concerned because there's been like what, 6 missing kids, some
- 52:14are dead, some are confirmed dead and the chief is like you
- 52:17need to get out of here. And he's like, no, I'm just
- 52:19concerned and he's like there's nothing to be concerned about
- 52:20this. It's probably just a runaway and
- 52:22he goes, she's 4, Did she run away to Tahiti?
- 52:27Yeah, there's been like a lot. And he keeps going to all the
- 52:29crime scenes, so they're getting kind of annoyed at Mike for
- 52:32being around there all the time. It's also some of the dairy,
- 52:36then, like not wanting to dig deeper.
- 52:38And Oh yeah, they want to. They don't want to look into.
- 52:41They want to turn a blind eye to it.
- 52:43I get it. But what makes this one
- 52:45different, as this time Mike sees a picture of Georgie?
- 52:49Oh, Georgie, which prompts are for I'm gonna just divide part
- 52:53one into this, into the different kids.
- 52:55OK, so we've got Bill and what he's doing is he's working on
- 53:00writing. He is adapting one of his books
- 53:02for a movie that his wife is starring in because she's an
- 53:06actress and it seems like the perfect setup.
- 53:09And he even jokes that if one of his books is going to be
- 53:11mangled, at least he can be the one to mangle it.
- 53:14Definitely not any Stephen King self insertion at all
- 53:17whatsoever. You think he's talking about the
- 53:20what? The The fucking movie with the
- 53:23cars coming to life? Maximum OverDrive.
- 53:26Yeah, okay, yeah, maximum OverDrive.
- 53:28Cuz he is like, yeah, I'm directing it.
- 53:30I'm making this thing a shitty thing.
- 53:31If it's gonna be shitty. I think he's talking about The
- 53:34Shining, which that wasn't mangled, but it didn't receive
- 53:38nearly the same level of critical raves.
- 53:44He hated it. So, yeah, well, he hated Stanley
- 53:47Kubrick's. Yeah, that's.
- 53:48What I'm saying yeah. So anyway, when he gets his call
- 53:51from Mike, he remembers Georgie. He remembers the last time he
- 53:57saw him because he was sick in bed and Georgie wanted him to
- 54:00play. And yeah, they have the typical
- 54:02like brother banter and he's like, uh, get away from me.
- 54:05He's like, OK, but I. Love you.
- 54:06Yeah. He's like, Bill, what's going?
- 54:08What's not? What's wrong, Bill?
- 54:10Why are you sick? I've come down with the case of
- 54:12the cooties. So he had made this little
- 54:16sailboat for Georgie and they got to seal it with paraffin
- 54:19wax. And Even so, little Georgie's
- 54:21afraid of the basement when he goes down and grab the paraffin.
- 54:24Yeah, and he's so excited to go play it and.
- 54:28I felt so sad for Georgie watching it this time around.
- 54:31I don't know what it is like as I get older.
- 54:33I just seeing these kids like this, I think it's definitely,
- 54:37it's being older and having like years of experience now, but
- 54:41also like having kids in our lives that.
- 54:44That's part of it, 'cause I whenever I watched this, I was
- 54:47singing of our nephews and nieces, yeah.
- 54:49Yeah, it's just, uh, yeah, it's heartbreaking.
- 54:53And he's just chasing his little sailboat now, playing a stupid
- 54:56kid game. Like, what is fun about chasing
- 54:58about in a puddle? I don't know, but it's.
- 55:01Fun as a kid, Yeah. He's 5, so it's a good time.
- 55:05It's great. And then he's so heartbroken
- 55:07because it goes down the drain and it's not like in his mind,
- 55:13it's not so simple for Bill to just make another one out of
- 55:17another newspaper. No, this is something his
- 55:20brother made for him. It was a very important, special
- 55:23gift and he wants to get it back and so when a clown pops up in
- 55:29the great for whatever reason. He has great instincts is what
- 55:33he has. He's like, oh, I can't talk to
- 55:34you. You're a stranger.
- 55:36Yeah. However, Pennywise knows the way
- 55:38to get around that with children.
- 55:40Oh well, my name is Pennywise. So now we're not strangers
- 55:44anymore. And he's like, yeah, that makes
- 55:45sense. So that tracks, that tracks,
- 55:47That is exactly what my parents told me about stranger danger.
- 55:50That is the full extent of it. Would you like to eat my arm?
- 55:53Yeah, this is you'll float too. Is there any like importance to
- 56:00that? Well cuz the deadlights make
- 56:03them. Float.
- 56:04That's what that meant. Yeah, okay, I got it.
- 56:06Yeah, you'll float too. Well, his it's kind of like a
- 56:10rapturing, but worse. I see that, yeah.
- 56:13His delivery of like. Whenever Georgie asked if the
- 56:17balloons flow is like, yes, Georgie, they float.
- 56:21It's like it's almost euphoric for him.
- 56:24Yeah, it is. And it's always like, ever since
- 56:27watching as a kid registered weird to me.
- 56:29Yeah, but. And it's supposed to.
- 56:31Like. Yeah, it does a good job.
- 56:34So Georgie, you know, reaches for his boat and then Penny Wise
- 56:37takes the opportunity and grabs his arm and we just get the old
- 56:41teeth. Yeah.
- 56:42Can't show the eating the arm, but you have to imply it because
- 56:44yeah, well and like in the book it details like a neighbor
- 56:49coming out and seeing like just a bright splash of yellow and
- 56:53red. Didn't that happen in the remake
- 56:55too? I think it maybe it didn't.
- 56:59I don't know. I think they.
- 57:00I think they so. That more dairy being shitty.
- 57:02They saw the events, yeah, but they don't give a shit.
- 57:04OK? Kid got eaten in the sewer,
- 57:06whatever. And then they cut to the funeral
- 57:09and bills back at home looking through photo album and one of
- 57:15the pictures of Georgie moves and winks at him.
- 57:18So he freaks out, drops the album, and the album starts
- 57:21flipping pages on its own. And then it's hers, bleeding,
- 57:23and he calls her his parents. And his parents are like, what
- 57:26the fuck? Yeah.
- 57:27Why are you even in Georgie's room right now?
- 57:29Like that's he misses your fucking kid.
- 57:32That is some slow ass motherfucking Jeff bullshit,
- 57:35boy. Oh yeah, You're not.
- 57:37You're not. My son's dead.
- 57:39I don't give a shit that your brother's dead.
- 57:41My son's dead. Fuck you.
- 57:43My son died. Yeah, yeah, it's kind of shitty.
- 57:47And the mom goes over there to pick up the book and Bill is
- 57:51freaking out because she is not seeing the blood but blood
- 57:55smearing all over the place. Just that's a bloody book, and
- 57:58nobody seems to notice except for Bill.
- 58:01Bill can't believe that he forgot all about that.
- 58:03And he tells Audra he's got to leave because he made a promise
- 58:08of so many years ago, 30 years ago.
- 58:11I like that he's actually up front about this shit.
- 58:13Everybody else is like, nobody called.
- 58:16He's like, I'm Stephen King. Horrible shit called New York
- 58:22City. Ben RIP John Ritter.
- 58:26Big old successful architect man stumbles out of his limousine
- 58:30drunk as fuck, and he's got a hot date.
- 58:34They go upstairs and they're about to get a little funky.
- 58:37But Mike, the Ultimate Cock Black.
- 58:40Yeah, dude, yeah, Mike knows the right time to call all of these
- 58:45people. He calls and Ben gets a little
- 58:49bit upset. Yeah.
- 58:50How come? Yeah.
- 58:51And he tells his girlfriend. Sorry, you're not.
- 58:54You know you're not getting these blueprints.
- 58:56He does it in a way that is very rude, like she goes over to
- 59:00embrace he. Puts the hand in her face and
- 59:04then he walks over to get another drink.
- 59:07But I just like seeing that. I would never do that.
- 59:10But he does not care about her. Obviously.
- 59:12He's gotta go drink on the rooftop and remember the time
- 59:16that a teacher made things a lot worse for him because he's new
- 59:20to class, He's introduced himself and the bullies are
- 59:24making fun of them. And the teachers, like Henry
- 59:25Bowers, I'll see you in detention.
- 59:27And Henry Bowers, like, I'll kill you.
- 59:29And then the teachers, like, do you want extra detention?
- 59:31And then, like, Oh dear God, please, he will actually
- 59:34literally kill me. Not the teacher's fault.
- 59:35And it's just Henry Bowers being a stupid little asshole.
- 59:38Yeah, but it's also one of those things that like sometimes
- 59:40teachers are like, all right, we're gonna punish the bully and
- 59:43like, not doing anything to protect the child that is going
- 59:46to be. You gotta of it I.
- 59:49You gotta make, you gotta give them consequences.
- 59:51Like, you know, like they do have to have consequences, but
- 59:54when the child is like literally sitting there saying I'm going
- 59:56to kill you because of this, you need to also react to that.
- 59:59Report them to the cops for sure.
- 1:00:01Teachers are mandatory reporters, so.
- 1:00:04Yeah, true. But they didn't do that, And he
- 1:00:07said sticks to Beverly and he is immediately infatuated.
- 1:00:11Yeah. And then, yeah, they talk a
- 1:00:13little bit after school. Some Mean Girls are like, oh,
- 1:00:17some girls, some janitors. We're fathers, like, whatever.
- 1:00:20At least he's paying the fucking bills.
- 1:00:22Yeah. So as Ben's trying to walk home
- 1:00:26thinking about Beverly Mars, Jennifer did, Yeah, he of course
- 1:00:34gets accosted by the bullies, and they do actually cut him in
- 1:00:40the book. Obviously they can't show this
- 1:00:42on TV. But yeah, like, part of what
- 1:00:44happens when his memory comes back is the scar comes back.
- 1:00:47Really. Scar had disappeared.
- 1:00:48Yeah. I'm just trying to imagine like
- 1:00:50Tommy Lee Wallace negotiating that with a BC Like how much kid
- 1:00:53cutting can I get away with in this?
- 1:00:55No kid cutting, Tommy. No, it's like, ah, goddamn.
- 1:01:00That's why I did this whole thing.
- 1:01:02So yeah, Ben puts up a fight and kicks off of Henry and he goes
- 1:01:07tumbling down the side of the road and they go chasing.
- 1:01:11And then Ben finds a nice little sewer pipe to go hide in.
- 1:01:14Yeah. And Henry.
- 1:01:15And that's how you preserve your dignity, kids.
- 1:01:20Eddie and Bill are down there and they're like, I didn't see
- 1:01:23anybody. And so Henry's like, yeah, well,
- 1:01:25fuck you and steals Eddie's inhaler.
- 1:01:27Yeah, all poor Eddie. When they're gone, Ben comes out
- 1:01:32and he stays with Eddie so Bill can go get his inhaler refill.
- 1:01:39So Eddie and Ben like they talk about life and dead fathers as
- 1:01:44you do. Yeah.
- 1:01:45Oh, shit. Yours is dead too.
- 1:01:46Yeah. OK, OK, gotcha.
- 1:01:50Yeah. Eddie's dad died of cancer and
- 1:01:53his mom latched onto him as an emotional lap dog.
- 1:01:58Poor Eddie. And then Ben's dad died in the
- 1:02:01war, so they had to move in with his shitty aunt and shitty or
- 1:02:04cousin. Yeah, it's kind of like a Harry
- 1:02:06Potter type of it really, is it? Kind of felt like, except she's
- 1:02:10got a parent. By the way, and when Bill comes
- 1:02:13back, I have written down here certified Bubby moment because
- 1:02:16that's when you mentioned they're puppies.
- 1:02:17Yeah, you just like looked at me building a damn together and
- 1:02:20there's like, whistling in there, let me tell you about.
- 1:02:23Yeah, it was just funny because you just, like, looked at me.
- 1:02:26I went the puppies like that certified bubby moment right
- 1:02:30there. That needs to be a thing.
- 1:02:32As Ben is in his room writing a postcard poem to Bev, his cousin
- 1:02:39comes in and is a real jerk, and his aunt comes in as an even
- 1:02:42bigger jerk. His mom's like, listen, I know
- 1:02:44they're jerks, but you need to apologize for being a jerk.
- 1:02:47And Ben's like, I wasn't a jerk. He goes, yeah, but you know, my
- 1:02:50aunt's kind of or your aunt's kind of a jerk, so you need to
- 1:02:53apologize to her anyway. And Ben's like, fuck this, I'm
- 1:02:55out of here and. Talk to this.
- 1:02:56You're being a jerk. He runs away, and then he sees a
- 1:02:59ghost dad in the marsh, which then turns into Pennywise.
- 1:03:03That that's a creepy transformation.
- 1:03:05Like every time it cuts back to him, there's like one part.
- 1:03:07Yeah, like the the buttons turning into the pom Poms is the
- 1:03:10one that gets me. That's the creepiest one.
- 1:03:12And then it cuts back to him and he's just got the clown pants
- 1:03:14on. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:15Oh my God, he's holding the balloon.
- 1:03:17It's very creepy, but let's not worry about that.
- 1:03:19Let's cut to Shikak. Shikak.
- 1:03:24So Beverly, with Beverly by hand, gets a call, but Tom says
- 1:03:29she can't take a call right now. OK, Pamela, we got business to
- 1:03:34do and Bev's like, but I would really like to take no calls and
- 1:03:39don't you ever under my knee again.
- 1:03:42They got like this big deal going on with some Japanese
- 1:03:45clients and they go over there to introduce them.
- 1:03:48And does she enter? Does she do something to
- 1:03:51embarrass him or something? I don't understand what happens
- 1:03:53here. I think it's just a moment where
- 1:03:55like she's supposed to be the person in charge and there's
- 1:03:59like a moment of like is she going to be allowed to do do it
- 1:04:03when it's her business? Cuz the way he's so controlling.
- 1:04:06That's how I always interpret. It and the people that are there
- 1:04:10meeting them are just, they look super uncomfortable and they're
- 1:04:14like, do I bow now? I guess I bow.
- 1:04:16I don't know what's happening. There's bad vibes with Bev and
- 1:04:20Tom. Yeah, but they reluctantly bow
- 1:04:23and everybody bounce back and well, the meeting must go well
- 1:04:27because they're having champagne and sex later.
- 1:04:30Yeah, I don't think they quite make it to sex.
- 1:04:32Yeah, they're having champagne in bed and he's got his shirt
- 1:04:35off that much, it's true. But they run out of champagne.
- 1:04:39He takes the last drink, of course, because fucker you like
- 1:04:41halfway up is it to her and he's.
- 1:04:44Like, I just kidding, Yeah. Gonna go get another.
- 1:04:47And then as she is alone, yeah, he she gets a call and he she's
- 1:04:52packing when he comes back and she's like, I gotta go, it's
- 1:04:56this whole big thing. And he slaps her and brings out
- 1:04:59the belt and then you know what Ben does?
- 1:05:01She starts throwing shit at him and she's like, don't you ever
- 1:05:03touch a lay a hand on me again or I will fucking kill you.
- 1:05:06Yeah, back to the ugly. This is another thing here.
- 1:05:08Like the fact that he brings out the bell and he's like, it's
- 1:05:10been a while since we've had to do this.
- 1:05:13Like, Jesus, this has been like, he just like, fucking punishes
- 1:05:16her. It's just so.
- 1:05:18It's disturbing, all upsetting. And I love this moment of her
- 1:05:21just being like, no, fuck you, I will kill you if you do this
- 1:05:24again. Yeah, and she gets her flashback
- 1:05:27moment all the way to O'Hare. And her flashback is making dad
- 1:05:32breakfast and getting a little Ding Dong on the doorbell.
- 1:05:34And it's a postcard. It's a cute little postcard.
- 1:05:37Your hair is January. Your hair is.
- 1:05:40Ember fires. Winter fire.
- 1:05:42January embers. My heart burns there too.
- 1:05:46Yeah. Good job, Ben.
- 1:05:47And he's over there watching from the bushes, and she takes
- 1:05:51it inside and her dad sees it and reads it and gets really
- 1:05:56upset that she's messing around with them boys.
- 1:05:59Like, it's the it's not even like, damn baby booty.
- 1:06:03So juicy. Like it's literally you're
- 1:06:06really pretty. Your hair is nice.
- 1:06:08And I honestly, if they started using like Coolingo like that,
- 1:06:12he might not understand like damn girl ass fat thick yo.
- 1:06:15And it's like. Damn okay.
- 1:06:18I don't know what that means. Well, they spelled foul with a
- 1:06:20pH, so I don't know. This is clearly, this is
- 1:06:22chemistry. Yeah, okay.
- 1:06:23Yeah. So is this your chemistry
- 1:06:25homework? Wow, they must have found new
- 1:06:26elements. Okay.
- 1:06:28Yeah. So basically he calls her a slut
- 1:06:33and hits her. I wonder if she develops her
- 1:06:36taste in men so she runs off and while she's running, Ben comes
- 1:06:43and running too and he's like, hey, how are you?
- 1:06:45And it almost feels in a way, like he set this up like.
- 1:06:48Yeah, right. Which clearly he didn't, you
- 1:06:50know, assume that her father's abusive.
- 1:06:53But you know, he's like, I can use this moment to like dads,
- 1:06:58you know, like, mine's dead, but yours is a jerk.
- 1:07:01They're the worst. My dad was just a clown.
- 1:07:04What the laugh on yours? She's like, not really happy
- 1:07:09that he's there, but he's like, you know what?
- 1:07:10Just come with me and we're going down to the Barons and
- 1:07:12we're gonna go build a dam, Yeah.
- 1:07:14And while they're down there, they meet Richie and Stan and
- 1:07:16they all build a dam together. But Beverly is into Bill.
- 1:07:22Yeah, she assumes Bill is the one that wrote it, cuz he's the
- 1:07:24writer after all. Poor Ben.
- 1:07:26Heartbreaking. Yeah.
- 1:07:27Feel bad for the dude? Yeah, on the way home, she was
- 1:07:30like very distracted watching after him.
- 1:07:33And Ben's like, OK, I get it. And Bill does like the nerdiest
- 1:07:36thing is like I hold silver. He does it every fucking time he
- 1:07:40gets on that bike. It's second hand embarrassment.
- 1:07:43Every single time. But then she sees that she's
- 1:07:44like ohh Bill and. Ben's like, alright, I'm going.
- 1:07:48He's like, who are you? Fine.
- 1:07:52What? Jerry Bill.
- 1:08:03So when she goes back into her apartment that night, she's
- 1:08:07brushing her teeth and she hears little voices in the drain.
- 1:08:09That's creepy, Yeah. And then as she's leaning
- 1:08:12closer, oh you know, just one of those casual drain blood bubbles
- 1:08:16burst right in her face. Yeah, and she asked who it is.
- 1:08:19And like Vicki, there was a bunch of.
- 1:08:22Names Vicki Burrows and Matthew O'Connor.
- 1:08:24We're the dead kids. What?
- 1:08:26They say. Hey, we're the dead kids.
- 1:08:28And she goes, and she's like daddy, Daddy.
- 1:08:30And he like, he comes and he's like, what is it?
- 1:08:31What is it? And he's like hands all in the
- 1:08:33blood and touching her face with the.
- 1:08:35Blood. That's the thing.
- 1:08:36Like, anytime they touch blood, they have to make it as
- 1:08:38upsetting as possible. Yeah, Tommy's like, OK, so no
- 1:08:42blood from orifices and no kid cutting.
- 1:08:45Didn't say you couldn't put blood in orifices, so she covers
- 1:08:51says. It was a big spider.
- 1:08:53Which I would still be freaking out about that.
- 1:08:55Like I would think that the spider is moved on from the
- 1:08:58sink, not gone back down the drain, but you know, whatever.
- 1:09:01Good cover. Yeah.
- 1:09:03So now we gotta go to Great Night New York, where Eddie's
- 1:09:08mom's like Eddie. Eddie, don't leave the house.
- 1:09:12Eddie, where are you going? Can you imagine if she also
- 1:09:15caught him? Eddie's spaghetti like Eddie
- 1:09:17spaghetti? Get back here.
- 1:09:18I'm surprised she calls him Eddie and not like Edward.
- 1:09:21Edward. Yeah, like he's she's it's still
- 1:09:25a kid. Yeah, I guess there is that.
- 1:09:28It's just, uh, it's such a such a icky dynamic.
- 1:09:32Yeah, she really used him as like a surrogate husband.
- 1:09:36And it's so icky. It's so.
- 1:09:37Fucked up, man. There's a lot of layers there
- 1:09:39that I don't really want to. I don't want to unpack.
- 1:09:41I don't have the emotional energy to unpack all of the
- 1:09:45trauma these children went through.
- 1:09:46Yeah, but he got his call and he's getting ready to go, so
- 1:09:50he's assertive with his mother for once in his life.
- 1:09:53Good. For him, six up for himself and
- 1:09:55like on the way. He's like talking to his
- 1:09:57business partner, like trying to make sure he's like, I want you
- 1:10:00to handle the Pacino job. I don't trust anybody else,
- 1:10:02which I would feel honored if I was trusted with the Pacino job.
- 1:10:05I got very big vibes that this is Eddie's lover.
- 1:10:09Well, no, he said. He's never been with anybody.
- 1:10:11I know that. But the way that this guy is
- 1:10:14like, I'm not concerned about that.
- 1:10:15I'm concerned about you, Eddie. Like it just seemed very like
- 1:10:18they had a very intimate relationship.
- 1:10:19And then whenever they like, he's like waving partners.
- 1:10:22Yeah, whenever he's waving on the train, partners like he's
- 1:10:26tearing up, looking at him. Partners.
- 1:10:30I know, but I'm just trying to say like, yeah.
- 1:10:32It seemed like I got that he was in a relationship with him.
- 1:10:35I didn't necessarily get the whole thing with him and Richie.
- 1:10:38But like, yeah, there seems to be something there.
- 1:10:41You may not have had sex, but it doesn't mean he's not had a
- 1:10:43lover. You know what I mean?
- 1:10:47Lovers don't have to be sexual okay.
- 1:10:50I just always connotate lover with the okay.
- 1:10:54I wanna Make Love right na na, na.
- 1:10:56He may not have ever had sex, but that doesn't mean that he
- 1:10:59hasn't met his soul mate and has made an intimate connection.
- 1:11:03Okay Okay. Is that better?
- 1:11:04Yes. Less fucking involved there.
- 1:11:06Yeah. Okay.
- 1:11:07Great, great. And let's move on.
- 1:11:09Yeah, let's go back to watching Wolfman and the Paramount and
- 1:11:13Eddie kicking some popcorn on Henry Bowers and his friends.
- 1:11:16And you know what Richie does. Richie goes and makes things
- 1:11:20worse by dropping his trick on him intentionally.
- 1:11:23Richie's Richie's got a lot of, what a balls to him right there
- 1:11:28to do that. This this guy is like willingly.
- 1:11:29Just like opening up his knife and threatening to cut people
- 1:11:32all the time so they have to go running off.
- 1:11:35Eddie's mom is incredibly overprotective.
- 1:11:38Hates all of his friends. Says that he's not allowed to
- 1:11:41shower with the other boys after class.
- 1:11:45This isn't a normal thing, like I never had to shower in my
- 1:11:48school. It was always optional for us.
- 1:11:50We didn't. I guess we didn't have operating
- 1:11:52showers from like it was. It was optional for us, and I
- 1:11:56made a point of never getting sweaty enough in gym class to
- 1:11:58need a shower. Yeah, I mean, I would never do
- 1:12:01it. Like most of the time after gym
- 1:12:02class, like I would have practice after school.
- 1:12:05Anyway. It's like how many fucking
- 1:12:06showers am I going to take in a day?
- 1:12:07I you know how I feel about showers.
- 1:12:09There is undue necessary in life.
- 1:12:12I will take a shower because I have to, because we live in a
- 1:12:16society. But if I had the option to never
- 1:12:19shower, I would probably do that.
- 1:12:20I just hate it. It's it takes up too much of my
- 1:12:23day. Okay anyway.
- 1:12:25Stinky. I wish I didn't stink so I
- 1:12:27didn't have to shower. So yeah, his coach or his PT or
- 1:12:33P. P/E P/E teacher forces him to
- 1:12:37stay behind cuz he didn't shower so he has to go in there and
- 1:12:40take a shower. Now you take Phys Ed, you sweat.
- 1:12:43Do we really think Eddie sweat during Phys Ed?
- 1:12:45Do we think Eddie got that active?
- 1:12:46Do we think Eddie was last picked and probably got
- 1:12:50immediately kicked out and? Dodgeball.
- 1:12:53Eddie's not fit. He's gonna get sweaty no matter
- 1:12:56what, so anyway, he has to go take what's probably a more
- 1:13:00terrifying shower than a shower with all the other boys, which
- 1:13:02is a shower alone where all of the noodles come to life.
- 1:13:06Attack him with hot water and then a drain opens and stop
- 1:13:09motion animation. Which is great.
- 1:13:12Oh my God, it's. Yeah, it's so intense.
- 1:13:14Like it adds something to it. I like it.
- 1:13:17What? And Pennywise pops up and good.
- 1:13:20He just creeps out Eddie and take it easy.
- 1:13:24All he's doing is just building up the fear and all these
- 1:13:27people. Well cuz the kids taste better
- 1:13:29when they're afraid. Yeah, OK, so now we're backstage
- 1:13:34and Richie's finishing up a show and everybody's so excited about
- 1:13:38Richie. Fuck yeah Richie, no beep beeps
- 1:13:40for you. We want you to keep going and
- 1:13:42he's excited and he's celebrating and he gets a show
- 1:13:44backstage and it just ends all of the fun for him.
- 1:13:48So he tells his manager that he needs to be gone for a few days
- 1:13:51and the manager is like, what about your hosting gig and
- 1:13:53you're supposed to sub in for Leno?
- 1:13:55Holy shit. Yeah, Who's doing?
- 1:13:56Who's gonna do Carson? Yeah, like, holy shit.
- 1:13:59Yeah, good for you. Man.
- 1:14:01And we get a late reveal of where he is.
- 1:14:02It's like, by the way, Beverly Hills, like, whoo, That was like
- 1:14:05a big drop right there. Whoo, He's made a big It was so
- 1:14:09like a hit or miss if we got a card for their locations.
- 1:14:13So well, we got all of them up front except for his and this is
- 1:14:16like reveal it in the middle like.
- 1:14:18By the way, he's in Beverly Hills like it's like a big drop.
- 1:14:22But yeah, the manager's like, I think that's his manager, that
- 1:14:25he's like super pissed at him because he is just like
- 1:14:27abandoning boy. He's the manager money too.
- 1:14:30So I get him. But Richie made a promise when
- 1:14:32he was 12, so he's got to stick to it, even though he's so
- 1:14:36scared thinking about the Wolfman that he throws up.
- 1:14:38Yeah, he's he's the most affected by it.
- 1:14:42I feel like. Well, Nah.
- 1:14:43Ben almost jumped off the building.
- 1:14:46Never mind, he didn't just throw up.
- 1:14:47There's a lot going on there. So we in the flashback, Bill is
- 1:14:52telling a campfire story, and they all talk about what they
- 1:14:55want to be when they grow up. Eddie wants to be a train
- 1:14:58conductor. Richie wants to be a rock'n'roll
- 1:15:01singer. Ben wants to be an Air Force
- 1:15:03pilot. Stan wants to be an
- 1:15:05oronthologist. Bev wants to be a painter.
- 1:15:09Police officer sees them and yells at them.
- 1:15:11But then, like, it feels very much like a panicked parent,
- 1:15:16like screaming, like get out of there.
- 1:15:17And then he's like, OK, but listen, there was like a body
- 1:15:19found. So yeah, you guys need to stick
- 1:15:22together no matter what. Yeah, make a promise.
- 1:15:24And he, like, he gets in on the promises.
- 1:15:25Like, put your hands on mine. Let's all promise together that
- 1:15:27you guys are gonna do this. We see Richie and Henry fight in
- 1:15:31the cafeteria and Richie's made to go get a mop.
- 1:15:35But when he can't get into Mr. Marsha's closet, he goes down to
- 1:15:39the basement. And when he's down there he sees
- 1:15:41the Wolf Man. Yeah, which is also penny wise.
- 1:15:44Yeah, the Wolf Man. Not scary, but when he turns
- 1:15:47into a clown, that's scary. Beep, beep, Richie.
- 1:15:51Yeah, When he runs back up there and he's like telling everybody
- 1:15:54in the cafeteria what he saw. Everybody was laughing except
- 1:15:57for his group of friends. Yeah, well cuz they get.
- 1:16:00And with Richie, I don't think that there were so much laughing
- 1:16:03at him. They're like laughing with him.
- 1:16:05They think because he's a funny guy, that's a total Richie move
- 1:16:08to come in and say, hey, there's a werewolf in the basement, now
- 1:16:11it's Mike's turn. Mike can't call himself someone
- 1:16:14said. He's journaling about the Lucky
- 1:16:167, and this is how he came to join their group.
- 1:16:19So in class he's sharing a photo album about dairy and the
- 1:16:22history of their tragedies every 30 years.
- 1:16:25HM Weird that the teacher doesn't really want to know,
- 1:16:27Marsh. Like, this is morbid.
- 1:16:28Let's just be done. Yeah, Henry and Co racially
- 1:16:35target Mike after school. They threatened him with a
- 1:16:38firework. I don't understand, they said.
- 1:16:42Your dad has caused my dad a lot of trouble.
- 1:16:44Like, is there more export with that?
- 1:16:46And like another thing, I don't remember the full context of it,
- 1:16:50but at the root of it, it's just racism.
- 1:16:53OK, I figured as much. But I didn't know if there was
- 1:16:54like other things going on between their parents.
- 1:16:58So the rest of the group is down at the barons and they're
- 1:17:02telling their stories about everything they've been
- 1:17:05experiencing, all of the weird stuff, all of the scary stuff.
- 1:17:08Mike is running and he climbs the fence into the quarry or the
- 1:17:13barons or whatever, and Henry and his group follow him.
- 1:17:20And the other six are just like, you know what?
- 1:17:22We've had enough and we're going to protect this kid and we're
- 1:17:25going to throw rocks at Henry Bowers and all it takes is 1
- 1:17:28rock and a couple kicks to the butt for Henry Bowers to be
- 1:17:31like. Whoa, fucking rock, Sir.
- 1:17:34But I like how his friends just like back away from him as soon
- 1:17:38as he goes home, like they don't even really try.
- 1:17:41And Henry is like, really? He's a real tough guy, cuz like
- 1:17:44he's been. Like knocked out by these guys
- 1:17:47here. He's like, I'm gonna kill you.
- 1:17:48And I like Richie's like get some new material.
- 1:17:51Like, yeah, cuz he says it every single time.
- 1:17:54Yeah. So then they all are like, all
- 1:17:56right, this is Henry called them the loser's club.
- 1:17:58So they're like, OK, I guess we're the loser's club and then
- 1:18:01Mike takes a picture. Yeah.
- 1:18:02He's like, all right, I got a camera.
- 1:18:03Let's, you know, let's do this. Let's make it official.
- 1:18:06And he shows them his album, and there's photos of Pennywise in
- 1:18:10there. And then, of course, the photos
- 1:18:12start moving. Because this is it.
- 1:18:15Um, yeah. Pictures from over 200 years
- 1:18:17ago, by the way. It's like illustrations of them.
- 1:18:19Yeah. And uh, yeah, they found like
- 1:18:21this one picture of like a town. Like I guess like the very first
- 1:18:24like iteration of the town town fair or something is.
- 1:18:27Going on Tiny wise comes down the street.
- 1:18:30That always. Oh my God.
- 1:18:32It creeped me out so much as a kid.
- 1:18:34Like, he comes back flipping all the way down there, and then he
- 1:18:37gets up on the lamppost and points at them and growls at
- 1:18:39them and then gets it right up in the picture and he's like,
- 1:18:41oh, I'm gonna get you guys and, you know, just laughing at him
- 1:18:45and just being very creepy. And yeah, Bill is like the thing
- 1:18:50killed my brother, and I want you guys to help me kill it,
- 1:18:54like. OK, that's why I'm getting kind
- 1:18:57of deep here. And Mike wakes up and he hears
- 1:19:01footsteps in the library. Doesn't see anything besides a
- 1:19:03balloon next. To him, that's creepy.
- 1:19:06In Atlanta, Stan is reading the paper while his wife is sewing
- 1:19:10some pants. They talk about having kids.
- 1:19:14Mike calls, and Stan is a little panicky on the phone.
- 1:19:18He's very noncommittal about showing up to dairy and after he
- 1:19:22hangs up, he tells wife he's going to go take a bath.
- 1:19:25Yep. So in his flashback, he is with
- 1:19:31the group the Losers Club. They're practicing with a
- 1:19:33slingshot and Bev is the best. And the plan is that they're
- 1:19:37going to shoot Pennywise with silver.
- 1:19:39Richie stole his mom's earrings. Good for her, honestly, because
- 1:19:42those fuckers are ugly. Those are some ugly earrings.
- 1:19:45I didn't even know those were earrings.
- 1:19:47I was just like, yeah, I got some like, silver blobs here.
- 1:19:50Those are like the ugly mom earrings that like way down the
- 1:19:53ear lobes. You know how old ladies have to
- 1:19:55stretch out your lip? That's those are the earrings
- 1:19:57that did that. Good job, Richie.
- 1:20:02They all take a puff of Eddie's inhaler, and then they start
- 1:20:07climbing down the sewer together.
- 1:20:10And Henry and his goons follow, because of course they do.
- 1:20:13And he's like, all right, we're gonna split up.
- 1:20:16I didn't catch the one guy's name.
- 1:20:18Henry and Belch, we're gonna go one way, and the other one was
- 1:20:20gonna go the other way. Except he doesn't last very
- 1:20:23long. No.
- 1:20:25He, like, goes down there and is immediately just eaten by this
- 1:20:28giant thing. Yep.
- 1:20:29And then Henry and Belch get Stan from the back of the group
- 1:20:36and. Drag him away and then they hold
- 1:20:38him up to a knife and then all of a sudden the light comes out.
- 1:20:41Yeah, light bursts the pipe and it kills belch like sucks him
- 1:20:45into the pipe. The way that they did that, it
- 1:20:47looked great. It's so creepy.
- 1:20:50Yeah, it is like they did a great job doing that and then
- 1:20:53that wasn't enough to, like terrify Henry.
- 1:20:56He's like, OK, whatever, stop joking around, Belch.
- 1:20:58Like, alright, cool. You did your flying trick once
- 1:21:01before, but like, it comes back out.
- 1:21:05And then the lights show, and it shows it to Henry, and he turns
- 1:21:10instantly white, like his hair goes white from fear.
- 1:21:12Yeah, the light is Stan runs back to the Losers Club and
- 1:21:17light passes over all of them and they hold hands.
- 1:21:19How did it not get them? Because they were all holding
- 1:21:22hands. It's it's a whole thing about
- 1:21:23their group having like a power together.
- 1:21:26That's why it's so important that they all stick together,
- 1:21:28and that's why it was so important that they all return
- 1:21:29to dairy. OK, well that much did not get
- 1:21:32communicated as well in the movie.
- 1:21:34Yeah, so they're all holding cans and they all have to try
- 1:21:38and resist the things that scare him.
- 1:21:39But somehow Pennywise still manages to break into the
- 1:21:42circle, and he gets Stan, and Eddie comes over and he says,
- 1:21:47hey, this is battery acid and sprays Pennywise in the face
- 1:21:51with his inhaler. And then Bev hits him in the
- 1:21:53head with the earring and he jumps down a drain and they're
- 1:21:57like, he's hurt. He's probably dead.
- 1:22:00Which is the same line of thinking that Bev's dad had
- 1:22:02about the spider that you disagreed with.
- 1:22:04Yeah, you can even hear Pennywise.
- 1:22:06Then they're going like he's hurt, he's not dead.
- 1:22:12Then they all crawl out and they're like, OK.
- 1:22:14If this thing ever comes back, we promise we're going to come
- 1:22:16back and finish the job. And then they all make a
- 1:22:19promise, and Stan is the very last one to promise it, like,
- 1:22:23passes over him. And then he's like, fine.
- 1:22:25Yeah. Stan's wife goes upstairs to
- 1:22:28check on him. Has a beer for him.
- 1:22:30Has a beer for him. It's beer.
- 1:22:32It's the name of the beer is beer.
- 1:22:34It's a good beer. It's clearly a Miller Light, but
- 1:22:36it just says beer. And he has cut his wrist and
- 1:22:43written it on the wall. And part one just ends and it
- 1:22:47just ends. Just like that, yeah.
- 1:22:49You don't get anything. So Part 2 starts with Bill
- 1:22:53visiting Georgie's grave, and while he's there, he sees
- 1:22:55Pennywise, who says that he's got 7 graves.
- 1:22:58One of them's already filled up, so we don't know who that is.
- 1:23:02Well, we know who it is, still doesn't know who it is.
- 1:23:06And then we get a close up on Bill's face and a beadlet of
- 1:23:11sweat with a bunch of foundation mixed in.
- 1:23:14And it's so distracting. Like, could somebody not have
- 1:23:16just gone over and dabbed his face real?
- 1:23:19No. So distracting.
- 1:23:21So he goes to the library and talks to Mike.
- 1:23:26More memories are coming at him and.
- 1:23:30OK, this is like one of the shittiest things here.
- 1:23:32So they're there and like, ah, yeah, this is like the poor part
- 1:23:34of sound. Yeah, Bev used to live over
- 1:23:36here. Wow.
- 1:23:36It's so it's poor and shitty looking.
- 1:23:38And they're like, OK, let's go to your house, Mike.
- 1:23:40And Mike's, like, right here. Fuck you.
- 1:23:44Right. Like, Oh yeah, we're all super
- 1:23:46successful. You are too.
- 1:23:47Right, Mike? Yeah.
- 1:23:48Oh, OK, Yeah. And he's like, oh, also, I still
- 1:23:52have all of the traumatic memories because I stayed in
- 1:23:54Derry to, you know, keep an eye on things.
- 1:23:56It's cool. It's fine.
- 1:23:57It's cool. It's cool.
- 1:23:59Also, you're gonna take my role and give it to Ben in the
- 1:24:01remake. That's fine too.
- 1:24:03Also. So he's like, I did buy this
- 1:24:09tube repair kit several months ago, don't know why.
- 1:24:11And then, not too long ago, I found this bike in the pawn
- 1:24:14shop. And guess what?
- 1:24:16It's silver. Yeah, and he's like starting the
- 1:24:19talk. He's like, yeah, well I got this
- 1:24:20urge to buy this like kit to fix up the bike and then like 3
- 1:24:24months like, waiter, I found your bike.
- 1:24:26So I don't know. I feel like something's all kind
- 1:24:27of, like happening as a purpose. So Richie's driving in and he
- 1:24:32sees his own epitheph on the Paramount's marquee, and then he
- 1:24:36goes to the library to find Mike.
- 1:24:38And while he's waiting there, Penny Wise is dropping blood
- 1:24:41filled balloon bombs on him and he starts freaking out.
- 1:24:45And he's trying to tell one of the other librarians to let Mike
- 1:24:49know that he's going to be at the hotel.
- 1:24:51But because Pennywise is like making dumb jokes, which I feel
- 1:24:54like is really the right taunting tactic with Richie,
- 1:24:57instead of just insulting Richie like he does his own bit at him.
- 1:25:00Yeah, and Richie's like shouting.
- 1:25:04It's like when people have headphones in and they're like
- 1:25:06shouting at you even though you can't hear what they're hearing.
- 1:25:09That's what he's. Doing right in her face.
- 1:25:13It's just great. In this whole scene I thought it
- 1:25:15was funny watching the blood balloons like pop in people's
- 1:25:18faces cuz the actors have to pretend like they're not like
- 1:25:20that's happening but every single one of them do like a
- 1:25:22minor flinch like fucking blood just shooting all over your face
- 1:25:27suddenly. Yeah, it's great.
- 1:25:30We have a nice little montage of Mike and Bill writing silver.
- 1:25:34I like that. That was fun, and it ends
- 1:25:37abruptly when they go to add cards to the spokes and
- 1:25:41Pennywise is all the fact of the cards.
- 1:25:44Ben is in a cab and he asked the cab driver to pull over at the
- 1:25:47bridge, and he walks down there and he remembers the bullies for
- 1:25:50a minute. And then he realizes he's
- 1:25:52watching actual bullies chase a little chubby kid.
- 1:25:55And as the kid falls like Ben goes over and shoes him away,
- 1:25:59and then he gives this kid tetanus.
- 1:26:01No, no, no, Bill. As soon as you're been, as soon
- 1:26:04as he gets back into town, he is affected by the Shitty dairy
- 1:26:08part because he watches them chase the kid and then insult
- 1:26:11them and like fuck with them and then they leave on their own and
- 1:26:14then he runs over to check on them.
- 1:26:16He doesn't help at all. He's like, yeah, that shit
- 1:26:18happened to me too. I'm gonna let that happen to
- 1:26:20him. He might become a successful
- 1:26:21architect one day. I need to point out that he
- 1:26:24takes his dirty hanky out of his pocket and dips it in this
- 1:26:28infested water dabs, this kids knee and it's like you totally
- 1:26:33won't get an infection. Alright, go at it, kid.
- 1:26:37Don't worry, you're gonna grow up to be John Ritter.
- 1:26:39One day you'll be on Three's Company.
- 1:26:42It would be great coming knock on auto.
- 1:26:45He starts singing this up coming, Knock on auto, yeah, So
- 1:26:51he he gets back into the cab and drives off and on the side of
- 1:26:55the road, Pennywise is here. And he gets a balloon in his car
- 1:26:59and it says, turn back now or something like that.
- 1:27:03Yeah. So Eddie is at the drugstore
- 1:27:09refilling his bullshit inhaler prescription.
- 1:27:14For a minute I was like, how is he filling this prescription?
- 1:27:16I was like, it's because it's a placebo.
- 1:27:18Yeah. And he's still going along with
- 1:27:21it even though he knows. And he flashes back to the
- 1:27:23pharmacist telling him that his mom is, you know, abusive.
- 1:27:27And as a 12 year old, he was like, I don't understand any of
- 1:27:30this. This is beyond my grasp to
- 1:27:32really articulate on a subconscious level.
- 1:27:34I know exactly what you're talking about, but I haven't had
- 1:27:36the proper channels to process this.
- 1:27:40But today I'm gonna go talk to this old man.
- 1:27:43All I can remember is from the remake when he's like.
- 1:27:47I talked to the pharmacist. He told me you're giving me
- 1:27:49gazebos. This is really funny.
- 1:27:54And then like, the pharmacist is there on the side and he's he's
- 1:27:58got issues, he's having memory problems.
- 1:28:00But he seems to remember the whole placebo thing until Eddie
- 1:28:07realizes that it's actually it. And he gets and he's like, all
- 1:28:11right, don't go fucking around here.
- 1:28:12And then it turns back onto the old man.
- 1:28:15Yeah. Beth is at her old apartment and
- 1:28:19learns her father died five years ago.
- 1:28:21And I fully believe that she would have been out of context
- 1:28:24long enough to not even know that her father died.
- 1:28:26So. Yep, totally believe it.
- 1:28:28Mrs. Kirsch is living in there, invites him in for some, invites
- 1:28:34her in for some tea, and uh, it's getting a little a little
- 1:28:38creepy pretty quickly. You know the way she slurps down
- 1:28:42her teeth. And yeah Oh my God all black
- 1:28:45and. I can look past the slurp of the
- 1:28:47teeth. Some people are just weird.
- 1:28:48She's old. She probably don't give a fuck
- 1:28:50anymore. She's like, alright, I don't
- 1:28:51just give me that bullet, but uh, yeah.
- 1:28:54Then she turns into an old woman.
- 1:28:56Like more of an old woman. Like a deceased old woman?
- 1:29:00Yeah, yeah, like a corpse. Yeah, yeah, and chases.
- 1:29:03I thought that this was creepier than.
- 1:29:06Yeah, yeah, cuz like, the makeup looks really good.
- 1:29:09Yeah, it's almost like you don't have to be afraid of an older
- 1:29:13woman's body for her to be creepy.
- 1:29:15It can just be the acting. Yeah, the acting and just like
- 1:29:17the decay and look on her and it's just it's upsetting
- 1:29:21honestly. Seeing her chase Bev.
- 1:29:23But Bev makes it out and then Pennywise is there and you know,
- 1:29:27hooking it up like he always is. And then Bev realizes, oh shit,
- 1:29:31the. Board like it's been boarded up.
- 1:29:33Yeah, it's abandoned. How the fuck is she getting in
- 1:29:35there? Nightmare Magic.
- 1:29:38Nightmare magic. I guess so.
- 1:29:40Meanwhile, Andrea is talking to the director, Greco, who is
- 1:29:44threatening her career if she leaves.
- 1:29:46She's like, I can replace your husband.
- 1:29:47I don't give a shit about him. I can't replace you.
- 1:29:50If you leave this, I will make sure you don't work in this town
- 1:29:52again and she's like, OK, I understand.
- 1:29:54And then as soon as he's gone, she's calling for a ticket.
- 1:29:57Nope. So there's a group dinner at the
- 1:29:59Chinese restaurant. Richie has to collect himself
- 1:30:02for a minute before he can approach his friends.
- 1:30:03And I do like seeing the sight of him, because I think if we
- 1:30:06just saw him joking around it would be hard to take him
- 1:30:08seriously. But seeing the way he, like,
- 1:30:11panics for a minute in the bathroom, you know that it
- 1:30:13really, like the joking really is a mask he uses to kind of
- 1:30:17deal with life. He's more of a mess as an adult.
- 1:30:19Thing is, as a kid because you got more of his sense of humor,
- 1:30:22like quite hard in this as in his kid scenes.
- 1:30:24But here you see him like constantly have to like, step
- 1:30:27aside and collect. Himself.
- 1:30:30So Bev is the last one to arrive, and as soon as she gets
- 1:30:34there she faints. When she wakes up, she kisses
- 1:30:37Bill and nobody acknowledges it. She kisses Eddie too, right?
- 1:30:41She's just on the cheek, but she like plants one on Bill.
- 1:30:44Yeah, it's so fucked up. And Bill's like, I'm fucking
- 1:30:46married, but he doesn't say that.
- 1:30:48He's like, yeah, this is cool. I'm Stephen King.
- 1:30:50I get 2 bitches, so they're all like working to remember things.
- 1:30:57Eddie is like, I remember nothing and then somebody says
- 1:31:00the word sewer and it's like he was a sleeper agent that was
- 1:31:02activated. Wow.
- 1:31:04It's all coming together. They all start feeling a little
- 1:31:08bit better. Being together is what they say
- 1:31:10and they have dinner. We learned that Henry confessed
- 1:31:13to all the child murders, and that's the only part that they
- 1:31:17believed of his confession. When he talks about the clown
- 1:31:21and the sewer and all of that, they're like, yeah, that doesn't
- 1:31:22sound fake, but you definitely, probably, maybe killed those
- 1:31:26kids. So we're just gonna put you in
- 1:31:29psychiatric Correctional Facility?
- 1:31:31Yeah, for the rest of your life. Yeah.
- 1:31:35So we do cut to Juniper Hill briefly and see Pennywise in the
- 1:31:40moon talking to Henry and telling telling him that he has
- 1:31:43to call them all. Why does he have to use Henry?
- 1:31:47Because he said that sometimes like, it's the whole like
- 1:31:53metaphysical versus physical things.
- 1:31:55I mean, he was Henry's like flesh and blood.
- 1:31:57It's easier for him to do it, he.
- 1:31:59Does not right say that year, but like why?
- 1:32:01Like does he just? I guess he just wants him dead
- 1:32:03so that he's not. They're not threatening his
- 1:32:05existence, I guess. Well, and it's also like the way
- 1:32:07he has to kill that it's harder for him to kill adults.
- 1:32:10Really. Yeah.
- 1:32:12Oh, OK. I guess he has to kind of go
- 1:32:14through a whole corruption process.
- 1:32:15It's a whole thing. Complicated, OK.
- 1:32:19So yeah, Belch Belch's zombie comes from up underneath Henry's
- 1:32:25bed and gives him a switchblade or like a knife.
- 1:32:28And he's like, don't worry about.
- 1:32:31What was the guy's name? I didn't write it down.
- 1:32:34It's the author that you were. Oh, Koontz.
- 1:32:37Koontz. Yeah, he's like, yeah, Koontz is
- 1:32:39the fucking worst. He's the guy that's working in
- 1:32:41the door. Don't worry about Koontz.
- 1:32:42I'll take care of Koontz and then Velch turns into a
- 1:32:44Rottweiler in a clams. It's so weird.
- 1:32:47I was like, what the fuck? So, like, OK, can I ask this?
- 1:32:50How the fuck can Koontz see it even though he did not have that
- 1:32:55experience as a child? Dude, I.
- 1:33:00I don't know. Legitimate questions, right?
- 1:33:02Like the whole point of them being able to see it as adults
- 1:33:06is because they had that experience as children.
- 1:33:08Nobody else can see it. I think a part of it is also
- 1:33:11still some of that lingering fear and like the being willing
- 1:33:16to question it, which adults don't always have.
- 1:33:22Like, it's really easy for adults to rationalize things
- 1:33:24away like, oh, it's, you know, they're runaways or oh, this kid
- 1:33:28murdered the other kids. Yeah, but this guy didn't
- 1:33:31experience any of that. He's just like a fucking guy
- 1:33:33that is working at this facility and then now there's a dog clown
- 1:33:37attacking him. It just doesn't make any sense.
- 1:33:39We don't have to explain any of his back story.
- 1:33:42OK, well, we got a back story of another person coming up soon,
- 1:33:46so we'll bring that question up again here in a minute.
- 1:33:50Rich, he says that he's going to be leaving at 6:00 AM and
- 1:33:53they're like, you can't, we have to carry this out.
- 1:33:55He goes, no, I came here and catch up with you or I'll learn
- 1:33:57what's going on. There's nothing we can do.
- 1:33:59And then they all open their fortune cookies and they get
- 1:34:01things such as blood or bugs or eyeballs or flies or bird
- 1:34:08fetuses or the spider, as you said.
- 1:34:12So they go to the library and they're continuing some of the
- 1:34:15fun, and they are. And Mike is trying to get a hold
- 1:34:18of Stan again, and he eventually gets a hold of his wife and
- 1:34:22learns that he is dead. And then they remember what
- 1:34:27finally got Stan to believe, because the whole time he kept
- 1:34:30saying like this is all empirically impossible.
- 1:34:33And then one day he got drawn into the house by the park where
- 1:34:36he's bird watching and he sees what in the movie is made to
- 1:34:40look like a mummy, kind of. And he uses his bird book to get
- 1:34:46out just but like, basically distracting him from what was
- 1:34:49terrifying. Yeah, just like reciting the
- 1:34:50birds that he knows. Yeah.
- 1:34:53And he told one of was it Eddie or Richie?
- 1:34:57He told one of them, maybe Ben after school that one day that
- 1:35:02what he saw was what was behind the clown.
- 1:35:04It was the dead lights. Yeah, That's it.
- 1:35:07Yeah, and they all need a refill when they open the fridge,
- 1:35:11stands head is in there and starts taunting them and
- 1:35:14basically bringing out all of their worst fears about their
- 1:35:16adulthood. Which I think is kind of a nice
- 1:35:18twist too, because in childhood you're afraid of things like the
- 1:35:22wolfman or mummies, but in adulthood you're afraid of
- 1:35:25things like marrying your father or never being.
- 1:35:30Honestly. Like headless roasting.
- 1:35:32Stanley is fucking brutal, yeah. Deep cuts, yeah, the world's
- 1:35:39harshest insult comic. So Mike reveals that things have
- 1:35:47been happening in dairy and 30 year increments, all kinds of
- 1:35:50major tragedies. The adults don't seem to want to
- 1:35:53stop it. They don't care about
- 1:35:56understanding their fear. Meanwhile, Audra is driving to
- 1:36:00dairy. She's almost there, and she
- 1:36:01stops at a gas station to get directions and the gas station
- 1:36:05attendant. Again, it's it's Pennywise and
- 1:36:10she sees it. Don't know him.
- 1:36:12Don't understand why, Don't understand how it is able.
- 1:36:15Why? Why is he staying in dairy all
- 1:36:18the time? Like he clearly has reach?
- 1:36:21It's again, it's something about dairy.
- 1:36:24Like we didn't get the full explanation of it.
- 1:36:26Okay, I'm still calling bullshit on him being able to get her cuz
- 1:36:30she doesn't know anything about him.
- 1:36:34So Ben is telling the story. They're back at the hotel now
- 1:36:37and Ben is telling how he lost weight out of spite basically to
- 1:36:41and got a teacher. This feels very like, yeah, that
- 1:36:44happened. Yeah, he's like, yeah.
- 1:36:47So I became the fastest kid in town and the teacher punched me
- 1:36:51and I noticed here that John Ritter almost dropped an F bomb
- 1:36:55and I flipping, I guess it's great, I guess.
- 1:36:59So I'm almost to do it, though Richie still wants to leave.
- 1:37:05Bev talks about when she was cleaning up the blood in her
- 1:37:08bathroom, and then as soon as she was dead, she goes to leave
- 1:37:11and it all reappeared. So she had her friends come,
- 1:37:14look, and when they saw it, she felt so relieved that she wasn't
- 1:37:17alone and that they all stayed and they helped clean.
- 1:37:22They split up to go to their rooms briefly brush teeth, grab
- 1:37:25shawl, you know whatnot. And while they're in their
- 1:37:28rooms, Henry stabs Mike. Meanwhile, Bev comes in and
- 1:37:33tells Ben that she knows he wrote the poem and they kissed
- 1:37:36but surprised. He's got like makeup smear on
- 1:37:39his face and he looks and I was like oh shit, those aren't the
- 1:37:41pants you were wearing before. It's clown pants and then looks
- 1:37:45over. It's penny wise.
- 1:37:46He's like kiss me fat boy, I love it.
- 1:37:49So great. Eddie and Ben go in, Mike
- 1:37:53struggling. Yeah, so they break in and help.
- 1:37:57Mike has been stabbed. Henry has been stabbed worse.
- 1:38:02Yeah, So they all rushed Mike to the ER.
- 1:38:05Bev is crying and scared outside.
- 1:38:07And she's talking about how she can't believe she wound up with
- 1:38:10somebody exactly like her father.
- 1:38:12And then she quotes the poem and asked Ben if he was the one that
- 1:38:17wrote it and he was like, are you you or are you the clown?
- 1:38:19And she said fuck is. This another one of your poems.
- 1:38:22I don't get this one. They learned Mike will be OK,
- 1:38:27but only one can really go in to talk to him.
- 1:38:29So Bill goes in there. Mike still has the silver
- 1:38:33earrings. He got them from the sewer 10
- 1:38:35years ago when he wasn't in such a good spot in his life and he
- 1:38:37didn't really care if he ran into Penny wise, which is just
- 1:38:40sad. That is sad and that's kind of
- 1:38:42crazy that he managed to go down there and find those after all
- 1:38:46that time, so they decide that they're going to leave Henry's
- 1:38:52body in the hotel. What the fuck do we do with it?
- 1:38:56Nobody knows. Nobody knows how to dispose of a
- 1:38:59body. It's fucking dairy.
- 1:39:00Nobody gives a shit. Yeah.
- 1:39:01And they're like, if we tell the cops, the cops will probably
- 1:39:03just like have some penny wise manipulation and keep us held up
- 1:39:08so we can't go defeat them once and for all.
- 1:39:10Yeah, Richie is still, like, adamant that he's not going to
- 1:39:14help out. But then he sees this new story
- 1:39:16of a little girl being murdered and he was like, you can see him
- 1:39:20kind of like feeling some guilt. And then Bill sees a woman and
- 1:39:24child playing piano and he comes out.
- 1:39:26So he's like, I don't know if what I saw was real or not.
- 1:39:28You know, I'm going to spend the rest of my life questioning it.
- 1:39:30And I don't want to keep questioning things.
- 1:39:31I want to finish this once and for all.
- 1:39:34So they all drive to the Barons and they name like the bullets,
- 1:39:42the Silver Earring Bullets after Mike and Stan.
- 1:39:45So it's like they're all together.
- 1:39:47I agree with Richie here. He's like, we should have
- 1:39:48brought a machine gun. Yeah, dude, like, there's a lot
- 1:39:51of, like, silver and bullets. Silver.
- 1:39:54No, they're not silver. Where are they?
- 1:39:57I don't fucking know. Whatever.
- 1:39:58They'll hurt them. Sure.
- 1:40:01Yeah, they'll hurt them better than a swing shot.
- 1:40:05Come. On so they all entered the
- 1:40:07sewer. Yeah, Bill notices his wife's
- 1:40:09purse down there. Yeah, so he freaks out and goes
- 1:40:12rushing in and the rest catch up because he tripped and he's
- 1:40:18crying and Bep snaps him out of it.
- 1:40:21So then a sailboat travels because Pennywise is just
- 1:40:24enjoying fucking with Bill at this point.
- 1:40:26And then they see A1 armed Georgie who looks a lot like
- 1:40:29Crispin Glover and Hot Tub Time Machine.
- 1:40:31And that you can tell his arm is just tucked into his jacket.
- 1:40:34Your photo. Your photo?
- 1:40:36Yeah. Pennywise is talking to them and
- 1:40:38taunting them. Bill figures they can still kill
- 1:40:42it in its physical form, so they follow the boat to its layer,
- 1:40:46and Eddie confesses he's a virgin and it's.
- 1:40:49So weird. It's like, by the way, guys, I
- 1:40:51gotta admit, I never had sex like Eddie.
- 1:40:54Why the fuck are you bringing this up now?
- 1:40:56Like, I could only have sex with somebody that I truly love.
- 1:40:58And I only truly love you guys. Bev, take off your pants.
- 1:41:01It's like, yeah, Are you asking to fuck us right now, Eddie?
- 1:41:05Like, is this what you're trying to do?
- 1:41:07When they get into the layer, they see all these bodies caught
- 1:41:10up in the web, like a spider's web.
- 1:41:12And Speaking of spiders, we get Gilligan's Island Black Morning
- 1:41:16spider. Yeah, big old spider just comes
- 1:41:19crawling out. Biller, Richie, and Ben get
- 1:41:22caught up by the dead lights. Bev misses one of her shots, so
- 1:41:26she has to run and grab the earring and Eddie's like left
- 1:41:30there and he's like, I don't know what to do.
- 1:41:31So you know what he does? He defaults to his inhaler and
- 1:41:34sprays the spider. Has no effect.
- 1:41:36Has no effect, but it gives Bev enough time to get her shot in
- 1:41:40and she hits it and Eddie gets dropped by the spider and he
- 1:41:47dies and they all kick the spider out of rage.
- 1:41:51Yeah, yeah. I don't understand how this
- 1:41:53goes, Eddie. And they pull out its heart.
- 1:41:55Well, because he'd like, picked it up and squeezed him a lot,
- 1:41:57yeah. OK, well the I guess he couldn't
- 1:42:00really show that super well in here.
- 1:42:02Yeah, so they just, yeah, they tip over the spider and just
- 1:42:04punch his tummy into where they get his heart and squish it, and
- 1:42:07then it dies. And bodies are being lowered
- 1:42:10down from the web. Some of them are dead, but Audra
- 1:42:13is catatonic. Mike is journaling.
- 1:42:17Sometime later. He can't remember anything
- 1:42:19anymore. He says it's like a veil
- 1:42:21dropped. I only remember what I've read
- 1:42:24in my journal, but now it feels like things are over, so I might
- 1:42:27be able to move and move on. Richie's in Movies Now, and he
- 1:42:32frequently works with somebody who looks and acts a lot like
- 1:42:35Eddie. Ben and Bev are married and
- 1:42:38expecting children, and Bill and Audra are leaving today.
- 1:42:41But Audra still hasn't improved. She's still catatonic as he's
- 1:42:45climbing into the cab. The cab drivers in this town
- 1:42:48have to deal with a lot of shit of people being like, wait here
- 1:42:51just a minute. Yeah, and she's part of the job
- 1:42:53in the theaters running. Oh yeah, for sure.
- 1:42:55Me too, cuz he sees Silver and he's like, I'm gonna second hand
- 1:43:01embarrass you out of this coma. What the fuck is his line of
- 1:43:05thinking here? It's like Silver got me through
- 1:43:07a lot of tough times. It's definitely gonna help you
- 1:43:09from being catatonic. And so, like, he votes her up on
- 1:43:13Silver and they go riding down the middle of the street,
- 1:43:15causing all kinds of wrecks. You know what it reminds me of?
- 1:43:19What the scene in Princess Diaries or her car gets stuck in
- 1:43:24San 'cause you know, San Francisco streets.
- 1:43:26Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And Julie Andrews can't even has
- 1:43:29to charm her way out of the ticket.
- 1:43:31And like she it works. She snaps out of it.
- 1:43:35But I don't think it was silver that did it.
- 1:43:37I think it's the fear of getting hit by multiple cars that like
- 1:43:39snapped her of it. He wakes up in the middle of the
- 1:43:42street gridlock that she caused. Yeah, there's like a bunch of
- 1:43:46drivers threatening her and she's like.
- 1:43:49Still, like, what the fuck happened?
- 1:43:50I was at a gas station and now I'm like, what the fuck?
- 1:43:53I'm on a bike and it's like, yeah, Silver, hi ho Silver.
- 1:43:59And that's the end of the movie, folks.
- 1:44:02Wow. We actually managed to get
- 1:44:03through that pretty quickly. We did.
- 1:44:04We did. We stayed on topic.
- 1:44:06I'm pretty proud of us. Yeah, me too.
- 1:44:08So what do you rate it now that we talked about?
- 1:44:11I'm keeping it an 8, man. It's real solid.
- 1:44:14It's a real good time. I love it.
- 1:44:17It's it's held up remarkably well.
- 1:44:20Yeah, it really has. It's it's it's a really good
- 1:44:24adaptation. I mean, I can't really speak for
- 1:44:27the book, but like, I enjoy watching it as a movie.
- 1:44:30I do have questions though. I think it like doesn't follow
- 1:44:33its own rules that it sets that I realize, you know, as we talk
- 1:44:37about it. I think that's more the hazard
- 1:44:40of trying to adapt such a convoluted.
- 1:44:45Book. Well, I'm reviewing it as the
- 1:44:47movie itself, so offering an explanation for why.
- 1:44:51Oh, I understand that. But it doesn't help me, the
- 1:44:53person that hasn't watched or read the book, you know, you
- 1:44:55have to like. You have to cater to that
- 1:44:58audience as well. So when you, like, have a scene
- 1:45:01where like, why are we the only ones that could see it?
- 1:45:03And then in the very next shot, it's like, by the way, I'm gonna
- 1:45:05abduct your wife, who definitely hasn't never seen it.
- 1:45:09Also, we're gonna get the security guard too, because we
- 1:45:12got to get in reality or somehow, like, it just doesn't
- 1:45:15make sense. So I'm gonna knock it for that.
- 1:45:18At least I'll give it A775 Rude. Don't.
- 1:45:21Give me that wook. I saw that wook you gave me.
- 1:45:23I think it's it's a worthwhile criticism, honestly.
- 1:45:27Set these rules you gonna fucking play by if you need to
- 1:45:29adapt it. If you need to make that change
- 1:45:31in the book, Nightmare in the movie.
- 1:45:33Don't have rules, Travis. This isn't a nightmare.
- 1:45:35This is reality. It literally is a nightmare.
- 1:45:38But it's really, it's playing out in reality Incarnate.
- 1:45:41Yeah, but that's the whole thing.
- 1:45:42It's like he doesn't have to play by reality rules.
- 1:45:44He plays by nightmare rules, which is no rules.
- 1:45:46It's fucking Freddy Krueger, man.
- 1:45:48So he can show himself to anybody if he wants to, yeah.
- 1:45:54Whatever. It's not very our average went
- 1:45:56down, so congratulations. Well, I mean, I think it's a
- 1:45:59worthwhile criticism. Talia gives us a 10.
- 1:46:03Yeah, she was fucking terrified of this movie.
- 1:46:07She was like watching it ears back anytime.
- 1:46:10It cut to the menu screen, which was a lot because this is a
- 1:46:13multi part movie. The music scared the shit out of
- 1:46:16her. Oh God, yeah.
- 1:46:17And then also because we were expecting our nephews to come
- 1:46:20in, we thought they would really enjoy the clown on our front
- 1:46:22porch. So we made sure we turned that
- 1:46:24on for them and it kept getting triggered by the squirrels in
- 1:46:28the yard and that Oh my God, that got her started.
- 1:46:32So she was barking so much, yeah, it scared the shit out of
- 1:46:35her. She was really spooked from this
- 1:46:37movie. This is a 10 out of 10 for.
- 1:46:38Her plus Penny W turns into a dog.
- 1:46:40Yeah, which is also really scary.
- 1:46:41Yeah, a dog doesn't die. A dog does the killing.
- 1:46:43Yeah, exactly. Zoe didn't watch this Are.
- 1:46:48You sure? I thought she was.
- 1:46:49No, she was in the kitchen. Oh, wow.
- 1:46:51OK, yeah, she was in the kitchen pretty much the whole time.
- 1:46:53Well, she knows that she doesn't fuck with clowns, OK?
- 1:47:00So who did you relate to? I probably probably relate to
- 1:47:15Eddie because I tend to use humor as like a defense
- 1:47:19mechanism or not. Eddie Richie OK Yeah.
- 1:47:23It relates to Richie because they I.
- 1:47:24Thought you're gonna relate to Eddie because of the inhaler.
- 1:47:28Mine's real. Yeah, mine's how beautiful.
- 1:47:32It makes me shaky when I use it. So you think no, it legitimately
- 1:47:36makes you shaky? Living nightmare.
- 1:47:38Jesse doesn't have to play it by the rules, OK?
- 1:47:43Who'd you relate to? There's a couple people.
- 1:47:45There are ways that I relate to Richie because I.
- 1:47:49I relate to, like him coming to his hometown and being
- 1:47:52disappointed with the changes, like, ah shit, you fucking close
- 1:47:56down the Paramount, you know, like that.
- 1:47:57I feel that a lot my relates have been with like being a
- 1:48:01really fat child and, you know, eventually losing the weight.
- 1:48:07I didn't get punched by my coach though.
- 1:48:10But yeah, I don't know, like I'm somewhere in between those two
- 1:48:14right there. I relate to both of those a lot,
- 1:48:16OK. OK, dream sequel.
- 1:48:25Would you think that he would ever do a sequel to it?
- 1:48:29Because he's done sequels to like you know The Shining and
- 1:48:32stuff like that. Like aren't all of his movies
- 1:48:34are kind of connected in the same universe, right, Dairy,
- 1:48:37I've, I've read that Dairy is mentioned in other books.
- 1:48:40Yeah, like his I would say, because there's kind of an
- 1:48:43allusion to other creatures like that existing.
- 1:48:46So maybe another one finds another weak spot somewhere and
- 1:48:49say like the losers club is called back to her.
- 1:48:52Like, you know, Bev and Ben's child is impacted by it somehow,
- 1:48:57someway. I don't want their child to die
- 1:48:59because that's just like, but maybe the child likes sees stuff
- 1:49:03the way they did when they were. Kids I I think it would be cool
- 1:49:06because like they are. Successful, but I went through
- 1:49:10success to be corrupted. Like, they have that for a
- 1:49:13minute, but because they're products of dairy, that they all
- 1:49:17kind of just like caves in on itself eventually.
- 1:49:20And then, like, because of that, they realize that there's
- 1:49:24something that they have to confront to, you know, get it
- 1:49:28back. OK.
- 1:49:29And maybe that's what makes them start believing their child.
- 1:49:32Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I was going to say there
- 1:49:34needs to be something that like because at first they wouldn't
- 1:49:36believe it because they don't remember any of it.
- 1:49:39But now you're not successful and we're like, well, shit.
- 1:49:43It's way easier to believe that it's a mystical force rather
- 1:49:47than we're just not as talented as we think we are.
- 1:49:51Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:49:52Okay. Cool.
- 1:49:54Well, we have our tagline Master of pee pee bed or something.
- 1:49:59Like that? Yeah.
- 1:50:00Master of pee pee beds. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:50:03Go back to the beginning of that.
- 1:50:04Yeah, we said it then yeah, it'll be on the cover art too.
- 1:50:09Okay. So time for Internet reviews.
- 1:50:14So that's you. I pulled a like a critic review
- 1:50:19from entertainment. This was reviewed.
- 1:50:23This was reviewed like after the new one came out.
- 1:50:26I think it was 2022 or whenever I saw this.
- 1:50:31So this person says the chief problem faced by director Tommy
- 1:50:36Lee Wallace is that King's book takes too long getting the
- 1:50:39grown-ups back together. We have to see what every
- 1:50:42character is doing for a living and what his or her it inspired
- 1:50:46neuroses are. This is tedious in both the
- 1:50:49novel and the miniseries. Once the adults are assembled,
- 1:50:52though, it features a high level of ensemble acting, rare for any
- 1:50:56horror film. Will you be scared?
- 1:50:58Maybe. And I certainly wouldn't let my
- 1:51:00young children behold such sights as the severed talking
- 1:51:04head in a refrigerator or the gooey eyeballs falling out of
- 1:51:07fortune cookies. I have enough trouble getting my
- 1:51:09kids to eat Chinese food. Of course, eyeballs and fortune
- 1:51:12cookies are also very funny. The saving grace for Stephen
- 1:51:16King's or for Stephen King is that he's not a solemn HP12
- 1:51:19crafty kind of horror rider. He has a sense of humor in
- 1:51:22addition to its low pace. I found that ending a big let
- 1:51:26down. Unimaginative special effects
- 1:51:28animate the monster and its final incarnation, but the cast
- 1:51:32is terrific, Curious Cackle is chilling, and King's usual
- 1:51:35buried theme about the pain adults inflict on children
- 1:51:38without even realizing it. It's always worth pondering.
- 1:51:45Look, I get it. This is a long movie.
- 1:51:47It's a slow burn. It's a long book.
- 1:51:49It's also a slow burn. A huge piece of it is how
- 1:51:55important those core seven are. They are the story.
- 1:52:00You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 1:52:02And like, yeah, there's a lot to explore with how creepy
- 1:52:05Pennywise is. And if that's the type of movie
- 1:52:08you want, that's not the type of movie you're gonna get with
- 1:52:10this, because that's ultimately not the story that's being told.
- 1:52:13Yeah, there's a lot there with it.
- 1:52:15And you do need to build a lot of those characters up for it to
- 1:52:19have any impact because they hinges entirely on them.
- 1:52:23And it does honestly, like it's a mini.
- 1:52:25So it does feel kind of like the way you would feel watching a TV
- 1:52:29show. Like, I'm intrigued.
- 1:52:30Like it's I I can tell that they're pacing it more with the
- 1:52:34thought of this being a two episode arc.
- 1:52:36Yeah, definitely. You feel that pacing.
- 1:52:38It's different than it is with a movie, and I think that's
- 1:52:40evident when you see the remake. It's just, you know, I I like
- 1:52:46it. I can get how some people would
- 1:52:48want it to be a little bit more fastpaced, but I'm also a
- 1:52:54person. I like the very character driven
- 1:52:56movies. Yeah, I do too.
- 1:52:59I don't necessarily have a problem with the pacing in this.
- 1:53:01I think that it does a good job with it.
- 1:53:03All the things considered, I think it would be interesting to
- 1:53:07see this thing play out in like an 8 part series like they
- 1:53:09originally pointed. God, I would love that.
- 1:53:11Yeah, because I think that would definitely help a lot of people
- 1:53:14with the pacing issues. Like you could have whole
- 1:53:17episodes dedicated to encounters with the you don't have to like
- 1:53:21rush certain aspects or like linger on other ones longer
- 1:53:24because you felt like. One thing needed more time than
- 1:53:27like another thing. Because, you know, there are
- 1:53:29things that are like really fleshed out in this movie.
- 1:53:31And then there are things that are kind of like rushed.
- 1:53:33And once studios want to pay writers and actors what they're
- 1:53:36worth, maybe someday we can get that.
- 1:53:38Maybe. Maybe.
- 1:53:40Okay. Let's go over to some listener
- 1:53:43reviews. Okay.
- 1:53:44So we got two. Okay.
- 1:53:47They're both from Twitter. First one is from Aquili Boobs.
- 1:53:50Who says how it managed to terrify so many of us with so
- 1:53:54little gore is quite the achievement.
- 1:53:56Tim Curry's portrayal of Pennywise was 1/1 for the ages,
- 1:53:59timeless. And that it's still creepy as
- 1:54:01fuck after all these years. I absolutely agree.
- 1:54:04And I think it's one of those things that sometimes, and no
- 1:54:07offense to the people you know, like the critic review that you
- 1:54:11read that want more of that gore because it is.
- 1:54:15I mean, you know, I love effects and stuff, but that's not what
- 1:54:19makes something scary. Yeah, it it's not.
- 1:54:22And if that's what you feel like you need, I mean, that's fine.
- 1:54:25But you know, you can't say that's the only way something
- 1:54:27can be scary. Yeah, I think it can.
- 1:54:29Like it can be a tool to like help.
- 1:54:32But with this right here, I think that they had to get
- 1:54:35creative and make things creepy rather than rely on that stuff
- 1:54:40exactly. Which really I think benefits it
- 1:54:42in the long run. If you want the gory stuff, you
- 1:54:45can get that in the remake for sure.
- 1:54:47But yeah, this one definitely lingers.
- 1:54:49Like it builds on the fear, like the dread, which I really
- 1:54:53appreciate that I don't have to have things be super gory.
- 1:54:56I appreciate that. But I appreciate, like, actually
- 1:54:59building fear better. OK, and the final review, Tyler,
- 1:55:05Tim Curry is terrifying here. It's an excellent performance
- 1:55:08that is horror history for sure. This is the true start of my
- 1:55:12swipe. Fear of violence for me also
- 1:55:14love that the girl. That gets snatched in the sheets
- 1:55:17is blonde tanning bed girl from Final destination.
- 1:55:21What that is not that is not. No, dude, you're dropping some
- 1:55:28info here. More fun facts?
- 1:55:30Hold on, let's find out. Is that Ashley or Ashlyn?
- 1:55:36I don't know, but I think it's funny also that it's like
- 1:55:39parallel with the other girl that Tyler is a big fan of.
- 1:55:42From Yeah, Wrong Turn and Black Christmas.
- 1:55:45Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's her name, then?
- 1:55:49Hold on, let me pulling it up. OK, so she's Chaylin Simmons.
- 1:55:56Is that her? The actor's name?
- 1:55:57Yeah. OK, I found her here.
- 1:56:00OK, she's also in Tucker and Dell.
- 1:56:03Yeah, I remember that we never scrolled back to 1990 on her
- 1:56:07filmography. No, we did not.
- 1:56:09So I've got. Oh, she is.
- 1:56:11It's her. Orianne Winter.
- 1:56:13Barger Barger. Wow.
- 1:56:16Thank you for that information. Yeah, that's cool.
- 1:56:19Wow. Damn.
- 1:56:21We just watched that the other day too.
- 1:56:23Yeah, we did. Yeah, Awesome.
- 1:56:25Cool. Yeah.
- 1:56:26I mean, I agree. I mean Pennywise, it's a great
- 1:56:30performance. I think that this was also one
- 1:56:33of the movies that really got me interested in clowns as a kid,
- 1:56:36because I watched this at such a young age that.
- 1:56:39Kind of influenced my interest in that stuff.
- 1:56:42I am now obsessed with clowns as horror movie villains, and Tim
- 1:56:48Curry is hard to beat. Art the Clown, though, doing a
- 1:56:51good job. Okay.
- 1:56:53Yeah, Okay. That's it.
