- 0:02Speaker 1: The hills were alive with the sounds of Moto GP
- 0:06Speaker 1: and a Prillier on pole, a rookie on the podium,
- 0:09Speaker 1: and a double slide right off the star line. How
- 0:12Speaker 1: else do you sum up the Austrian Grand Prix. For
- 0:14Speaker 1: some writers it was a weekend of celebration and for
- 0:17Speaker 1: others nothing but pure misery. Curses were broken, champagne was sprayed,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and yes, Matt Burt definitely called it a Spielberg blockbuster
- 0:26Speaker 1: one too many times. Love your Bertie, But this week
- 0:30Speaker 1: Pittalk Podcast is brought to you by Shannon's Insurance. I'm
- 0:33Speaker 1: your host, Rinita Vanmullen, And if monogp Analysis were a
- 0:36Speaker 1: winner Schnitzel, he'd be the crisp Golden Crust.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Welcome back, Matt Clayton.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Matt, we had to go for a funny intro because
- 0:45Speaker 1: this whole weekend, I feel like, was just you couldn't
- 0:47Speaker 1: have written it as a blockbuster as a Matt No
- 0:50Speaker 1: plenty of times.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, you were just going through all the things
- 0:54Speaker 3: that happened. It's one of those race weekends where that
- 0:56Speaker 3: many things happen that you go back and go, oh yeah,
- 0:59Speaker 3: Jack Miller blew his bike up on Friday and had
- 1:02Speaker 3: to sit out the start of Saturday practice and got
- 1:04Speaker 3: fired a thousand euros to dumping fluid all over the track.
- 1:07Speaker 3: That was about the thirteenth most important thing that happened
- 1:10Speaker 3: over the course of the weekend. It just felt like
- 1:11Speaker 3: there was so much going on and so you've done
- 1:14Speaker 3: a reasonable job to encapsulate that over the weekend. The
- 1:16Speaker 3: only disappointing thing for me was no schnitzel's were eaten
- 1:20Speaker 3: by me over the course of the weekend, so I
- 1:21Speaker 3: didn't completely get into the Austrian GP spirits. I might
- 1:24Speaker 3: have to do something about that next time.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Oh man, well, what are you going to do for Hungary,
- 1:28Speaker 1: because like, you've got to get into the full the
- 1:31Speaker 1: experience being in Melbourne, right, You can't just peace out there.
- 1:34Speaker 3: In the cold, No, I know the culinary experience of Melbourne.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I'm sure I could dig out a Hungarian restaurant from somewhere.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Melbourne's got those places covered. But yeah, missed out on
- 1:42Speaker 3: the schnitzel. That was a rookie mistake by me.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Well, Mark Markes didn't miss out on the podium or
- 1:47Speaker 1: the win this weekend, So.
- 1:49Speaker 4: No denying Mark. Marqus he's the man of the hour.
- 1:52Speaker 1: What else can you say about him at the moment.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Yeah, he's just got He's got everything so under control
- 1:58Speaker 3: at the moment in that, you know, both races, in
- 2:00Speaker 3: the sprint behind his brother and in the main race
- 2:03Speaker 3: behind Marco Betzeki, you just thought, all right, it's a
- 2:06Speaker 3: matter of time. I think what the interesting thing was
- 2:09Speaker 3: for me and about you watching it was that there
- 2:11Speaker 3: was an inevitability with the spread that he would get
- 2:13Speaker 3: past Alex and that would be the end of that,
- 2:15Speaker 3: which it was. The Grand Prix for me was interesting
- 2:18Speaker 3: in that he clearly decided when he was going to
- 2:20Speaker 3: go against Betzeki, and Bazeki fought back and really made
- 2:25Speaker 3: him work for it, which I think his testament to
- 2:28Speaker 3: just how confident he is at the moment, how good
- 2:30Speaker 3: at Prillier are at the moment, they're clearly the second
- 2:33Speaker 3: best bike and Bodo GP right now. But the thing
- 2:35Speaker 3: I loved about Mark is like, well, I think he said,
- 2:37Speaker 3: you know, I decided to step back for a few
- 2:39Speaker 3: laps and breathe a bit, have a little sleep, have
- 2:42Speaker 3: a rethink, have a reset, and then I'll just pass
- 2:44Speaker 3: him somewhere else where he can't immediately cut back past me.
- 2:47Speaker 3: So market is calculating and cunning, bess, but fair play
- 2:52Speaker 3: to a Prillier generally and Bozeki specifically, because this is
- 2:56Speaker 3: just not one or two races now that he's been good,
- 2:58Speaker 3: he's been genuinely since Silverstone, and he's getting more confident,
- 3:03Speaker 3: the bike's getting better. They were absolutely hopeless on Friday Apriliant.
- 3:07Speaker 3: They're both in Q one. So for Berzeki to come
- 3:10Speaker 3: through Q one, take pole position, score a podium in
- 3:12Speaker 3: the GP, nearly score a podium in the sprint, that
- 3:15Speaker 3: was the big story out of this weekend. But we
- 3:17Speaker 3: can't sort of just gloss over the fact that Mark
- 3:20Speaker 3: Marquez is on a twelve race winning streak, six perfect
- 3:24Speaker 3: weekends from Aragon to Austria and this championship, which it
- 3:28Speaker 3: was inevitable before. But if he's winning at the Red
- 3:30Speaker 3: Bull Ring, then frankly everyone else as well go home
- 3:32Speaker 3: at this point because if there was anywhere he was
- 3:34Speaker 3: going to lose, it was going to be there.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I think maybe you've mentioned it before on the pod
- 3:39Speaker 1: and end. Something that I'm thinking about is I kind
- 3:41Speaker 1: of just want Mark to wrap up this championship because
- 3:44Speaker 1: then I want to see him play and have fun,
- 3:46Speaker 1: because I feel like at the moment, he says in
- 3:49Speaker 1: the press conferences, you know, I'm not thinking about numbers.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I'm just here to win. We'll just win, just wrap
- 3:54Speaker 1: it out, like you said, and then go and play,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and then let's show us what you really can do
- 3:58Speaker 1: on a Moto GP bike.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. I mean, it's one of those
- 4:01Speaker 3: things that it's inevitable that you do start to do
- 4:04Speaker 3: the mats when you've got this much of a lead.
- 4:07Speaker 3: And as much as he's never going to take anything
- 4:08Speaker 3: for granted because of what's happened to him since he
- 4:10Speaker 3: won that sixth title in twenty nineteen, it does become
- 4:14Speaker 3: a process of all right, if I get this, then
- 4:16Speaker 3: i'll be this far in a head, and so on
- 4:17Speaker 3: and so forth. You start running the numbers at this point.
- 4:20Speaker 3: There are a lot of stats that came out of
- 4:22Speaker 3: the weekend that you can just sort of gloss over.
- 4:24Speaker 3: But I did save two for you because I thought
- 4:26Speaker 3: you'd like both of them. One. You probably already worked
- 4:28Speaker 3: this out. He's already scored more points this year that
- 4:30Speaker 3: he scored last year. There's nine rounds to go, he's
- 4:34Speaker 3: already scored more points he did in twenty twenty four.
- 4:36Speaker 3: The other thing that's absolutely staggering, there's only actually nine
- 4:40Speaker 3: people now that mathematically cad win the World Championship. So
- 4:43Speaker 3: if Mark took the rest of the year off, it's
- 4:45Speaker 3: only the eight guys behind him that there's only enough
- 4:47Speaker 3: points left for the eight guys behind him to actually
- 4:49Speaker 3: win the championship. Everybody else is already eliminated from championship contention,
- 4:52Speaker 3: and it's August. It does show you the sort of
- 4:56Speaker 3: season that he's having. But I'm a bit like you, like,
- 4:58Speaker 3: no matter when it is that he gets this thing
- 5:00Speaker 3: wrapped up. Towards the back end of the year, there
- 5:03Speaker 3: will be a race and a track somewhere where he
- 5:06Speaker 3: won't have to sort of go against his instincts. I
- 5:11Speaker 3: guess I kind of feel sometimes at the moment that
- 5:12Speaker 3: he's kind of having a conversation with himself, like, you
- 5:15Speaker 3: don't need to do this, you don't need to do this.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Once the championship is done, then we'll be able to
- 5:20Speaker 3: see him completely unleashed. And the way things are going right,
- 5:24Speaker 3: I don't think we're going to have a live championship
- 5:26Speaker 3: by the time we get to Philip Island. But we
- 5:28Speaker 3: might see Mark unleashed at Philip Island. Now that with
- 5:31Speaker 3: no championship permutations to think about, could be a lot
- 5:34Speaker 3: of fun because you know, at the moment we don't
- 5:37Speaker 3: actually know how fast he is, because he's just fast
- 5:39Speaker 3: enough to win Grand Prix. How fast is he actually
- 5:42Speaker 3: we might find out at the end of the year.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I think you smack bang on with that.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I think you know, if your listeners, if you're at
- 5:48Speaker 1: home on the couch, bring your friends, bring your friends,
- 5:51Speaker 1: are family over making an event because I think we're
- 5:53Speaker 1: going to see an incredible Mark Marquez at Philip Island,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and if you're lucky enough to be there as well,
- 5:59Speaker 1: then what a race that's going to be. But let's
- 6:02Speaker 1: go back to Duke Caddy, because yes, Mark celebrating happy days.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Peko Banyaya sad face, he's just nowhere. And I think
- 6:11Speaker 1: when you were talking about Betzechi, just before you know Betzeki,
- 6:14Speaker 1: Mark passed him. Betzecki gave it back straight away. You
- 6:17Speaker 1: see it with Peco, Mark passes him, he kind of
- 6:20Speaker 1: tries and then he just dropped back. But this weekend
- 6:23Speaker 1: he just dropped back and he just dropped back now
- 6:25Speaker 1: we know we had that trouble on Saturday's sprint though,
- 6:28Speaker 1: where I think he was blaming the tire right because,
- 6:30Speaker 1: like I mentioned in the preview, there was that weird
- 6:32Speaker 1: slide with him in Furman off the start line where
- 6:34Speaker 1: they just kind of slid across the start line.
- 6:36Speaker 4: So lucky there was no incident there. But even on
- 6:39Speaker 4: Sunday Peko.
- 6:41Speaker 1: He's struggling. I don't know how else to explain it.
- 6:43Speaker 1: He's mentally and physically defeated.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I feel like, yeah, I mean, look the sprint, I'm
- 6:49Speaker 3: almost prepared to write a line through because he had
- 6:51Speaker 3: the crazy slide off the start. There was clearly something
- 6:53Speaker 3: going on with the tyre. He ran really deep into
- 6:55Speaker 3: turn one and just parked it. In the end, you
- 6:58Speaker 3: can rule the line under that. The thing with the
- 6:59Speaker 3: grown There's this pattern with him now right in that
- 7:02Speaker 3: he's generally qualifying okay about where you would expect him,
- 7:06Speaker 3: and he out qualified his team mate that that was
- 7:07Speaker 3: decent in Austria, and we know that's a track he's
- 7:09Speaker 3: been really good at in the past. He starts reasonably well,
- 7:13Speaker 3: he's pretty feisty in the first couple of laps, but
- 7:17Speaker 3: then once he sort of gets overtaken for the first time,
- 7:20Speaker 3: like sort of four or five laps in. It almost
- 7:22Speaker 3: feels like he does the big sigh and he's kind
- 7:24Speaker 3: of just resigned to his fate at that point. And
- 7:27Speaker 3: never at any point when he sort of got knocked
- 7:29Speaker 3: back from second or third. Never at any point did
- 7:31Speaker 3: you think, oh, it's all right, he'll come back, this
- 7:33Speaker 3: will be fine, he'll launch some attacks on people. The
- 7:36Speaker 3: thing that was a bit stark for me, and this
- 7:38Speaker 3: is like a two time world champion. I almost felt
- 7:41Speaker 3: that he was getting bullied on Sunday like the past
- 7:43Speaker 3: that in the second last corner that Acosta and Aldegare
- 7:46Speaker 3: put on him when they went through at the same time.
- 7:48Speaker 3: That was worderline disrespectful for a two time world champion
- 7:51Speaker 3: just to get bullied like that. But I think Peco
- 7:54Speaker 3: at the moment is maybe they feel that he can
- 7:57Speaker 3: almost kind of be picked on a little bit because
- 7:58Speaker 3: his body language, everything that he says, he sounds super
- 8:02Speaker 3: defeated to me. And what was so interesting was that
- 8:06Speaker 3: we know that the relationship with him and Docatti's just
- 8:09Speaker 3: been absolutely rock solid, right as you would expect because
- 8:11Speaker 3: he's either won the championship or been runner up for
- 8:13Speaker 3: the past four years. There's a Dacadie's thrilled because they
- 8:17Speaker 3: bet the house on Mark Marquees and it's coming home
- 8:20Speaker 3: in spades for them. That decision to choose Marquez over
- 8:23Speaker 3: Juge Martine effectively last year, that's paid itself off many,
- 8:26Speaker 3: many times over already. There's a sense of frustration with
- 8:29Speaker 3: Banyaya now, and I think on both sides, Like Banaia
- 8:32Speaker 3: said after the race, you know, I need some answers
- 8:34Speaker 3: for this, and you get the sense that Gjacadie are like, look,
- 8:37Speaker 3: we're hurting this thing upside down. We're doing every possible thing.
- 8:40Speaker 3: You've been amazing for us, but can we just get
- 8:42Speaker 3: on with this please. There's a sense of frustration with
- 8:45Speaker 3: all of this, and I suspect that he's so in
- 8:51Speaker 3: his own head now, not necessarily because he can't beat Mark,
- 8:53Speaker 3: because I think he's really stick enough to know that
- 8:55Speaker 3: nobody can beat Mark, but the fact that he can't
- 8:57Speaker 3: get close to being the writer that we've seen over
- 8:59Speaker 3: the pa past few years. I don't see how that
- 9:02Speaker 3: changes in the next nine rounds because clearly the bike
- 9:04Speaker 3: and him just haven't worked. So something needs to change
- 9:07Speaker 3: for next year, does the machinery change or just heat change,
- 9:10Speaker 3: And so there's this growing frustration here. I don't think
- 9:13Speaker 3: there's some split that's going to happen anytime soon, but
- 9:17Speaker 3: imagine if we're still having this conversation in twelve months time,
- 9:20Speaker 3: and it's been twelve eighteen months of this the I
- 9:24Speaker 3: cannot quite get my head around. You add the sprints
- 9:26Speaker 3: and the Grand Prix together. This year, Mark Marcus has
- 9:28Speaker 3: won twenty one races. Peko's won one race, and that
- 9:32Speaker 3: was gifted to him because Mark crashed from the lead
- 9:34Speaker 3: in Kota. And when we were talking about this amazing
- 9:37Speaker 3: partnership between Marquees and Banjo and oh, it's going to
- 9:40Speaker 3: be so exciting and there'll be so much tension because
- 9:42Speaker 3: it's going to be close and it's going to be brilliant.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Mark's walking into Pecko's team. Of all the storylines we
- 9:47Speaker 3: thought were going to happen this year, it just hasn't
- 9:49Speaker 3: happened because Mark's been Mark and Peko's just been an
- 9:53Speaker 3: absolute shell of who he's been for the past couple
- 9:55Speaker 3: of years. I'd personally love to see him pick it
- 9:57Speaker 3: up because having those two fight for meaningful things is
- 10:01Speaker 3: a storyline that Motor GP could use right now, but
- 10:03Speaker 3: it seems like an absolute pipe dream. He seems completely
- 10:07Speaker 3: lost to finish eighth at a track where but I
- 10:09Speaker 3: think I worked it out before last weekend he had
- 10:12Speaker 3: not led for one lap in three years in Austria
- 10:16Speaker 3: twenty twenty two to twenty four. I think he'd led
- 10:18Speaker 3: all but one lap in the Grand Prix's there, and
- 10:20Speaker 3: he finished eighth, and he's behind three ktms and he's
- 10:23Speaker 3: behind a rookie on a Ducati. Like it's hard to
- 10:26Speaker 3: see how it gets worse.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Makes me think next year they're going to go on
- 10:31Speaker 1: to as seeing in parentheses, a GP twenty six if
- 10:36Speaker 1: we don't even know if they're really on a GP
- 10:37Speaker 1: twenty five, but it's a GP twenty four plus whatever, Matt,
- 10:44Speaker 1: because you know the rules and everything inside out, and
- 10:46Speaker 1: I'm just thinking off this my head. Here, is there
- 10:48Speaker 1: a way that Peco could possibly go back to that
- 10:51Speaker 1: GP twenty four because there's no point in them changing
- 10:53Speaker 1: too much before the twenty seven rules come in.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Right Yeah, And that's and that's the conundrum, right, like
- 10:58Speaker 3: do you make wholes changes to what should be an
- 11:01Speaker 3: evolution of this year's bike to go back to something
- 11:04Speaker 3: that appeas is one rider, when every single piece of
- 11:07Speaker 3: it's going in the bin for twenty twenty seven anyway,
- 11:09Speaker 3: for Dicati and for everybody else. That's the problem with this.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I think the interesting part about it is that, and
- 11:16Speaker 3: you know the riders will never talk about this, but
- 11:18Speaker 3: the twenty four, as in last year's tocaty, still seems
- 11:21Speaker 3: like the better bike. And I say this in that
- 11:24Speaker 3: Furman Aldegere is finishing on podiums and he's been and
- 11:27Speaker 3: he's a rookie and he's been inconsistent, but he's still
- 11:29Speaker 3: riding what is probably the most manageable bike to ride
- 11:32Speaker 3: on the grid. And Alex Marques is having by far
- 11:34Speaker 3: the best season of his career on a GP twenty four.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I don't know if the twenty five is better than
- 11:38Speaker 3: the twenty four. It probably isn't, but it also shows
- 11:41Speaker 3: you how good Marquees is. Like you wonder to see
- 11:43Speaker 3: yourself right now. Imagine if you had Mark on Alex's bike,
- 11:47Speaker 3: or Aldegerz bike or Morbidelli's bike on the twenty four,
- 11:50Speaker 3: which is clearly a championship winning machine, what would he
- 11:53Speaker 3: be doing to everybody on that bike? So that's the
- 11:56Speaker 3: curiosity for me in that it's not as easy as
- 11:59Speaker 3: just saying O Peko will just basically give you last
- 12:01Speaker 3: year's bike with some new stickers on it and off
- 12:03Speaker 3: you go. What was interesting? You probably picked up on
- 12:06Speaker 3: this in the post script for Austria. There's the Massano
- 12:10Speaker 3: test coming up, and it sounds like Bannaya's angling to
- 12:14Speaker 3: try and get some laps out of twenty four and
- 12:16Speaker 3: that'll answer the question once and for all. Is it
- 12:19Speaker 3: me that can't ride this twenty five? And because I
- 12:22Speaker 3: was so used to how good the twenty four was,
- 12:25Speaker 3: or is there something else happening here? He needs to
- 12:27Speaker 3: almost like back to back them to see what the
- 12:28Speaker 3: feeling is. Maybe there'll be something on the twenty four
- 12:31Speaker 3: and go, oh it does this that the twenty five
- 12:33Speaker 3: doesn't do it, and they'll be able to make a
- 12:35Speaker 3: change because you have to think, like the last time
- 12:37Speaker 3: Peco wrote at twenty four was at the end of
- 12:38Speaker 3: last year. There's several riders in that decade stable that
- 12:41Speaker 3: never De jan Antonio has never written a twenty four.
- 12:44Speaker 3: He went from the twenty three to the twenty five,
- 12:46Speaker 3: as did Mark coming from Grassini, so it'd be super
- 12:49Speaker 3: interesting if he gets his way, gets a chance to
- 12:51Speaker 3: try the twenty four at Massano, and then if that
- 12:54Speaker 3: unlocks something that he's been missing, because I actually think
- 12:59Speaker 3: silly as it sounds, for two time world champion, he's
- 13:01Speaker 3: kind of underrated. He's an incredibly good rider when things
- 13:04Speaker 3: are right. We've seen that he didn't lose last year's
- 13:06Speaker 3: World Championship because he was slow. He lost last year's
- 13:09Speaker 3: World Championship because he was He crashed him many times
- 13:11Speaker 3: from positions of advantage. There's a great rider in there.
- 13:14Speaker 3: We've seen that for the best part of four years.
- 13:16Speaker 3: But he's just completely a well at the moment. And
- 13:19Speaker 3: I think it's more it's less the fact that Mark's
- 13:21Speaker 3: beating him and he's in his own head about Mark.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Then he's in his own head about why can't I
- 13:25Speaker 3: make this bike work.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I think you mentioned the Morbidelli and that's one thing
- 13:32Speaker 1: that I was thinking of the weekend is how much
- 13:34Speaker 1: would it be playing on Peco's mind if this is
- 13:37Speaker 1: something he'd even consider as the fact of Like, Morbidelli's
- 13:40Speaker 1: on the GP twenty four and he's not doing anything
- 13:43Speaker 1: with it, but then Pecko's on this bike and still
- 13:45Speaker 1: struggling is like going, well, you've got this bike, why
- 13:49Speaker 1: are you not doing it? And if that is like
- 13:51Speaker 1: he's playing, But I think he kind of answered the
- 13:53Speaker 1: question there with what you're saying is if he can
- 13:55Speaker 1: get this test and he can make those comparisons to
- 13:58Speaker 1: figure out what that wants percent is because we posted
- 14:02Speaker 1: an interview with Casey and Casey was saying that, you know,
- 14:05Speaker 1: Pecker and Christian have a really good working relationship at
- 14:09Speaker 1: your Caddy. So whatever it is that they're missing, they
- 14:12Speaker 1: will find it, but it's just taking a lot longer
- 14:15Speaker 1: than what they anticipated.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Well, and until Picco actually gets his way and gets
- 14:18Speaker 3: the chance to ride this twenty four, everything that you
- 14:21Speaker 3: think is different between the twenty four and five is
- 14:23Speaker 3: purely speculative because you haven't ridden the twenty four for
- 14:25Speaker 3: so long. If you were to ride the two different
- 14:28Speaker 3: bikes on the same day, which you can do at
- 14:29Speaker 3: a test, obviously there will be all right on this day.
- 14:32Speaker 3: At this point in time, I know that I like
- 14:34Speaker 3: a B and C on the twenty twenty four bike better.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Can we make some changes to try and get aspects
- 14:40Speaker 3: of the twenty five bike more like that? And then
- 14:42Speaker 3: if that doesn't unlock the performance that he's missing, then
- 14:45Speaker 3: at least you've tried it. At the moment, it's purely speculative.
- 14:48Speaker 3: He actually needs data and he needs feeling right now
- 14:50Speaker 3: to be able to properly back to back these things.
- 14:52Speaker 3: So it sort of shapes as a bit of a
- 14:55Speaker 3: I mean, look, this season's gone. It's not a key
- 14:57Speaker 3: moment for this season, but it's more what does it
- 14:59Speaker 3: mean for the end of this season leading into next
- 15:02Speaker 3: because I almost see twenty five and twenty six is
- 15:05Speaker 3: like being one long season over two years, because the
- 15:08Speaker 3: rules are pretty much the same, and you know, no
- 15:09Speaker 3: one's really moving around. Everyone's looking for twenty seven. If
- 15:13Speaker 3: he wants to be competitive next year, that's got to
- 15:15Speaker 3: start now, and then maybe that starts after Masano if
- 15:17Speaker 3: he gets a chance to test the twenty four.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Again, from a sad note to a little bit of
- 15:22Speaker 1: a happy hour one, let's talk about how other podium places.
- 15:25Speaker 1: So we've mentioned Mark, we've mentioned but Zechi, you said
- 15:28Speaker 1: furman Aldeger who had this incredible like mid to late
- 15:32Speaker 1: race pace that for a second there looked like he
- 15:34Speaker 1: was going to really charge Mark.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Then pedia A Costa also.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Managed to get on the sprint podium on Saturday for KTM.
- 15:41Speaker 1: So let's touch on Katim.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Because they're a mixed back at the moment, aren't they.
- 15:47Speaker 1: You see Pedro saying, oh, we're making the progress and
- 15:50Speaker 1: we're heading in the right direction, and.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Then you hear Brad Binda just go squea kend Liz terrible.
- 15:56Speaker 3: It's interesting with them in that I feel that the
- 15:59Speaker 3: you know, the start of the we know they had
- 16:00Speaker 3: their financial issues and there was development late to the
- 16:03Speaker 3: bike and so on and so forth. You felt that
- 16:05Speaker 3: a Costa was getting pretty much everything out of that bike,
- 16:08Speaker 3: or pretty much anything it had to provide at that point.
- 16:10Speaker 3: And you know, we'd go weeks and you go, oh
- 16:12Speaker 3: and Aabastian and he's on the grid. I haven't seen
- 16:14Speaker 3: him for three weeks because he was so far down
- 16:16Speaker 3: the back. I think you can see how that is
- 16:18Speaker 3: getting better now, because yes, a cost has been up
- 16:20Speaker 3: there the last couple of races. Bruno, he was good,
- 16:23Speaker 3: fourth in the Grand Prix here, third in the podium
- 16:25Speaker 3: in Austria. But you look up and you go, huh
- 16:27Speaker 3: and Aabastian and he's in the top five. Brad Benders
- 16:29Speaker 3: in the top seven. So It shows you that things
- 16:32Speaker 3: are getting better because there's more of their riders that
- 16:35Speaker 3: are doing more with it. Now we know Maverick Vinielle
- 16:37Speaker 3: is injured, so he didn't get to We didn't get
- 16:39Speaker 3: to see what he was going to do there. The
- 16:41Speaker 3: only thing I'd slightly caveat that with it's my asterisk,
- 16:45Speaker 3: which is not useful in an audio podcast. But I
- 16:47Speaker 3: would say Austria is such a random circuit, right, It's
- 16:51Speaker 3: not like anywhere else on the calendar. So I don't
- 16:54Speaker 3: know if three ktms in the top seven in Austria
- 16:57Speaker 3: is like some sort of Okay, this is what they're
- 16:59Speaker 3: going to do now every other track because there's kind
- 17:02Speaker 3: of nowhere else. Like the Red Bull Ring, it is
- 17:03Speaker 3: a complete one of one. It plays massively to Katium
- 17:07Speaker 3: has enormous straight line speed. We know that, and you
- 17:10Speaker 3: look at that Austrian layer. It's basically four gigantic strakes
- 17:14Speaker 3: with a bit of a quigly bit in the middle.
- 17:15Speaker 3: There's not much to it. It's a bit of an
- 17:17Speaker 3: oversized go kart track in a lot of respects. So
- 17:20Speaker 3: how's that going to translate when you get to more
- 17:23Speaker 3: fast and flowing tracks, how's that going to translate to
- 17:26Speaker 3: somewhere like Messano, which tends to be a pretty good
- 17:28Speaker 3: bell weather for what a lot of these bikes can do.
- 17:31Speaker 3: So definitely better than it was a costa. He's certainly
- 17:35Speaker 3: not holding back a costa. Like watching him in qualifying
- 17:38Speaker 3: at the moment and watching him on the opening laps
- 17:40Speaker 3: of a race. He is absolutely taking no prisoners, which
- 17:42Speaker 3: I kind of enjoy. It's been good, good fun.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it makes it a bit more exciting.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Right, Well, he's absolutely going to make you have an
- 17:49Speaker 3: uncomfortable moment in a past like he will not care.
- 17:52Speaker 3: He will put the bike somewhere and then you can
- 17:53Speaker 3: just decide how hard you want to fight him. But
- 17:55Speaker 3: he's putting it there, that's what he's going to do.
- 17:57Speaker 3: So yeah, super fisty, which I like, and good to
- 18:01Speaker 3: see them. Certainly it's an important race for them, right
- 18:03Speaker 3: Austrian GP, red Bull branding all over the bike. Good
- 18:06Speaker 3: weekend for them. I need almost like I need more
- 18:10Speaker 3: of a sample size to believe that they're kind of back.
- 18:13Speaker 3: But you'd have to say that there's this quite clear
- 18:16Speaker 3: hierarchy at the moment, and I'm going to set you
- 18:18Speaker 3: up for what this is referred to as a professional
- 18:20Speaker 3: segue in the business, because you've got Tocaddie in step one.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Aprili is clearly the next best. Katiem I think is
- 18:26Speaker 3: pretty much the third best now, not as good as
- 18:28Speaker 3: a Prillier, but better than everybody else. Honda is looking
- 18:31Speaker 3: quite good. We probably should talk about your mirror at
- 18:32Speaker 3: one point. And then in Austria you had Yamaha. I
- 18:37Speaker 3: do believe that will be on your run sheet, so
- 18:39Speaker 3: why don't we go there?
- 18:41Speaker 4: You hit the nail on the head. That was the
- 18:42Speaker 4: next thing.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I was going to say, let's go from a high
- 18:44Speaker 1: to a low, because why not Yamaha. Holy cra Yeah,
- 18:48Speaker 1: that's literally what can you say is holy crabby? Even
- 18:53Speaker 1: Fabio Cordoriro's post race de reef, I've taken nothing from
- 18:56Speaker 1: this weekend And you wrote in your article this quote
- 18:59Speaker 1: from Jack Miller. We prosted part of it on socials
- 19:02Speaker 1: and he's just going I tried everything and there was
- 19:06Speaker 1: nothing like what could they do?
- 19:09Speaker 2: This was just it was out of a horror movie.
- 19:13Speaker 3: The other I listened to all the post race deve
- 19:15Speaker 3: briefs and the three words that stuck out to me,
- 19:17Speaker 3: Quaaterero said, ridiculous and useless, and Miguel Olivera said irrelevant,
- 19:23Speaker 3: and I thought that was that. I mean, Miguel's more
- 19:27Speaker 3: one of you, more sort of genial riders, and he
- 19:28Speaker 3: always comes up with a good soundbit. I thought that
- 19:30Speaker 3: was a pretty cutting comment. But this is how horrific
- 19:33Speaker 3: this was. All four Yamahas were in the bottom five
- 19:36Speaker 3: in qualifying. Three Yamahas were the last three finishes in
- 19:40Speaker 3: the sprint, and all four Yamahas were the last four
- 19:43Speaker 3: finishes in the Grand Prix. Kuaaterero fell into a point
- 19:46Speaker 3: because some other people retired in front of him. He
- 19:49Speaker 3: was six seconds behind the worst non Yamaha, which was Ayagura.
- 19:54Speaker 3: He was twenty five seconds behind Mark Marquez in a
- 19:58Speaker 3: twenty eight lap race. He was the only Yamaha rider
- 20:00Speaker 3: that wasn't a second to lapse lower than Mark. And
- 20:03Speaker 3: that's not Mark pushing. And we're talking about Austria being
- 20:07Speaker 3: a one off track. It's every Yamaha technician's nightmare. The
- 20:12Speaker 3: bike doesn't have straight line speed. It really struggles to
- 20:15Speaker 3: get out of slow speed corners after heavy breaking, which
- 20:18Speaker 3: is all Austria is. It's just point and squirt point
- 20:20Speaker 3: and squirt point and squirt Jack was saying that he'd
- 20:23Speaker 3: get up to one hundred and twenty one hundred and
- 20:25Speaker 3: thirty k's an hour and the thing would just be
- 20:27Speaker 3: spinning as you're going up through the gears. OLIVERA was
- 20:30Speaker 3: saying he was still spinning in six gear, and so
- 20:33Speaker 3: there's absolutely no rear grip. They have a special tire
- 20:36Speaker 3: for Austria because of how hectic the acceleration is there.
- 20:39Speaker 3: They only use it there in Thailand, and so all
- 20:41Speaker 3: the Amaha was doing was just spitting its guts out
- 20:44Speaker 3: every single time it came out of a corner, and
- 20:46Speaker 3: you could just see how gently they were trying to
- 20:49Speaker 3: feed the power in, but it didn't make any difference
- 20:51Speaker 3: at all. It was utterly miserable. I think the only
- 20:55Speaker 3: salvation for them is that we know it's a really
- 20:59Speaker 3: good bikes still on flowing circuits. We know that it's
- 21:02Speaker 3: a bike good enough three races previously for Quatrero to
- 21:05Speaker 3: be on pole. So it's a particular type of circuit,
- 21:09Speaker 3: but you add all the variables there, circuit layout, hard tire,
- 21:13Speaker 3: no top end, can't get out of a slow speed corner.
- 21:16Speaker 3: It was almost like they were in this other category.
- 21:18Speaker 3: It's like they just let four Mota two bikes on
- 21:20Speaker 3: the grid. It was absolutely grim. I think the only
- 21:24Speaker 3: thing that's good about it, if you can use the
- 21:26Speaker 3: word good here is I think I wrote this. I'm
- 21:28Speaker 3: trying to remember the number now. I think those four
- 21:30Speaker 3: riders that they have Yamaha of one about twenty five
- 21:32Speaker 3: Grand Prix between them, Like, you're not talking about a
- 21:34Speaker 3: bunch of rookies and no hopers here, and they're all
- 21:36Speaker 3: in the same part of the racetrack, all struggling with
- 21:38Speaker 3: the same problems. So this is not a rider problem.
- 21:41Speaker 3: This is an equipment problem, and it's something that if
- 21:44Speaker 3: there was another Austrian Grand Prix this week, or a
- 21:46Speaker 3: circuit like it, then you'd be terrified as Yamahar as
- 21:49Speaker 3: to what you were going to get. There's nowhere quite
- 21:52Speaker 3: like Austria. It's not been as bad as this all year,
- 21:54Speaker 3: and I don't think it'll be as bad as this
- 21:56Speaker 3: in the future. But if you ever wanted a snapshot
- 21:59Speaker 3: of Honda need to sorry, what Yamaha need to do
- 22:02Speaker 3: to get this bike up to front running speed watch
- 22:05Speaker 3: the Austrian Grand Prix. Maybe with your fingers over your eyes.
- 22:08Speaker 3: If you're a higher engineer because it was pretty grim,
- 22:10Speaker 3: but it was just hopelessly. I was just you're just
- 22:13Speaker 3: looking at the lap times, going how were these things
- 22:15Speaker 3: this slow? But they were all this slow, So there's
- 22:18Speaker 3: nothing to do with any of the four riders. You'd
- 22:20Speaker 3: have to say.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I'm really glad you pointed that out, because I feel
- 22:23Speaker 1: like sometimes for listeners it's so easy to quickly point
- 22:26Speaker 1: fingers or fans going, you know, Jack Miller, look at
- 22:30Speaker 1: him and he was second last, or wherever you finished
- 22:33Speaker 1: on the weekend. It's really good that you point out,
- 22:35Speaker 1: actually it was all for yamahas And I think in
- 22:39Speaker 1: your article I remember reading a quote from Jack saying,
- 22:43Speaker 1: you know, a few weekends ago, Fabio put this bike
- 22:46Speaker 1: on pole, like you said, and now.
- 22:48Speaker 2: We're all in the bottom of QQ.
- 22:50Speaker 1: One, So how are we meant to how are we
- 22:54Speaker 1: meant to ride around here? And I think it's kind
- 22:56Speaker 1: of calling from what a lot of I'm reading online
- 22:58Speaker 1: is when the new engine coming for Yamaha, is this
- 23:02Speaker 1: going to kind of fix that problem?
- 23:03Speaker 4: Because is that the.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Only real variable as to why they are struggling so
- 23:08Speaker 1: much at a circuit like this when everyone else SEMs
- 23:10Speaker 1: to be does that jump better.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Right.
- 23:13Speaker 3: I don't think it's the only varia. I don't think
- 23:16Speaker 3: it's the only variabil. It is a variable.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:18Speaker 3: We know that Yamaha is the only brand that runs
- 23:20Speaker 3: you in line for since Zuki left at the end
- 23:23Speaker 3: of twenty twenty two. It's not the It's not like
- 23:26Speaker 3: the magic bullet for your problems. Right. You don't just
- 23:28Speaker 3: get a V four and suddenly everything's fine. What I suspect, well,
- 23:33Speaker 3: what you'd love them to do is to say, well,
- 23:35Speaker 3: we've got this V four project. It's bubbling away in
- 23:38Speaker 3: the wings. It's not quite ready yet. But Yamaha in
- 23:42Speaker 3: the past has tended to be let's make sure until
- 23:44Speaker 3: it's one hundred and fifteen percent bulletproof ready before we
- 23:47Speaker 3: bring it in. I'm not sure what you've got to
- 23:49Speaker 3: lose at this point by at least running saying even
- 23:52Speaker 3: if you just run Gosto Fernandez in a couple of
- 23:54Speaker 3: races as a wildcard, or you even give someone like
- 23:57Speaker 3: Kuaturra and say, look, we'll give you the option if
- 24:00Speaker 3: you want to try this. I don't think they can
- 24:02Speaker 3: go into twenty twenty six with questions as to whether
- 24:04Speaker 3: the V four is the way to go. I think
- 24:06Speaker 3: they need those questions to have been answered already, and
- 24:08Speaker 3: then they make the decision. It's like, well, we're going
- 24:10Speaker 3: to race in twenty six with the V four, so
- 24:12Speaker 3: at least we're the same as everybody else, and you've
- 24:14Speaker 3: got like for like comparison. At the moment, we don't
- 24:18Speaker 3: know if it's purely an engine issue, because you know,
- 24:21Speaker 3: it's just a variable. It's not the only variable. Yeah,
- 24:24Speaker 3: this V four thing might not quite be ready yet,
- 24:27Speaker 3: but what better way to maybe fast track the development
- 24:30Speaker 3: of it. Let's just get it out there, even if
- 24:32Speaker 3: we're running it with a wildcard or a test writer,
- 24:35Speaker 3: and let's see what happens, because you're never going to know. Now.
- 24:38Speaker 3: I guess from Yamaha's point of view, it's an utter
- 24:41Speaker 3: disaster from a pr perspective if you put the thing
- 24:43Speaker 3: out there and it's horribly slow, or it's unreliable, or
- 24:47Speaker 3: it blows up or whatever it is. But I don't
- 24:49Speaker 3: see how you're going to get the answer on to
- 24:51Speaker 3: whether this is the way to go or not unless
- 24:53Speaker 3: you actually try to do it. Again, we're talking before
- 24:55Speaker 3: about theoretical versus actual. In the case of Banyaya, you've
- 25:00Speaker 3: just got to buy the bullet and go for it.
- 25:02Speaker 3: And if this is the thing they've got to be
- 25:04Speaker 3: careful of. He is Quaaterero's their prize assets. You know,
- 25:08Speaker 3: he's a top I wrote this the other day. To
- 25:11Speaker 3: my mind, he's a top three writer on the grid. Still,
- 25:13Speaker 3: he's an absolute a lister. The last thing you want
- 25:16Speaker 3: to do as a company. I know, Fabio has been
- 25:18Speaker 3: there for a very very long time. He's your biggest asset,
- 25:21Speaker 3: and you want to keep him engaged and happy and
- 25:25Speaker 3: motivated and ready to push this project forward because he's
- 25:29Speaker 3: going to get super richy feet right if this doesn't
- 25:32Speaker 3: work out for him. He's been there for a really
- 25:34Speaker 3: long time. Yes, he's been loyal. Yes he's also been
- 25:37Speaker 3: massively paid for the results that he's been getting. But
- 25:40Speaker 3: this thing, it's been three years and so what a race? Right,
- 25:43Speaker 3: every other manufacturer's won a race in that three year period,
- 25:45Speaker 3: including some that aren't even on the grid anymore, and
- 25:48Speaker 3: so something needs to change there philosophically for them to
- 25:51Speaker 3: take a leap forward. Otherwise they are literally and metaphorically
- 25:55Speaker 3: like they were in Austria. They're just spinning the wheels,
- 25:57Speaker 3: going up and down on the same spot, don't they Yeah.
- 26:00Speaker 4: I think you hit the nail on the head.
- 26:02Speaker 1: My only worry I'm going to say worry is the
- 26:05Speaker 1: word is for Yamaha. Is they're going to bring on
- 26:08Speaker 1: Gusso Fernandez in and if they're going to test this engine,
- 26:10Speaker 1: they're going to.
- 26:11Speaker 4: Do it at Mategi in Japan.
- 26:12Speaker 1: And I don't necessarily think that's the right sorry not
- 26:15Speaker 1: test it bring it in as.
- 26:16Speaker 4: A wild card.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the right circuit even to
- 26:20Speaker 1: kind of see if it compares two what else is
- 26:23Speaker 1: out on the field right now?
- 26:25Speaker 3: You know, Well, the thing with Motegi is you know
- 26:27Speaker 3: it's going to rain at least one of the three
- 26:28Speaker 3: days because it always does, because it's Motigai in September
- 26:31Speaker 3: or October. So I agree with you on that front.
- 26:34Speaker 3: You know, it would be interesting, and who knows whether
- 26:35Speaker 3: they've got the resource to do this. We go back
- 26:38Speaker 3: to this Mesano test. What if all four of the
- 26:41Speaker 3: riders had a chance to actually ride the thing at
- 26:43Speaker 3: a test and they again we're talking about comparing it
- 26:45Speaker 3: to what they've already got. That to me seems like
- 26:48Speaker 3: a more realistic thing to do. Let's get the race
- 26:50Speaker 3: riders on this bike at a test. You don't have
- 26:53Speaker 3: to tell everyone what you're riding and where you're riding it,
- 26:55Speaker 3: what the settings are and all that. You do all
- 26:57Speaker 3: that in the background, but at least you get them
- 26:59Speaker 3: out there and you've got four really experienced heads who've
- 27:03Speaker 3: won a lot of Grand Prix between them, and they
- 27:05Speaker 3: can say this part of the engine is better, this
- 27:07Speaker 3: part of the engine is worse. This is where we
- 27:09Speaker 3: need to focus on. This is an improvement, to at
- 27:11Speaker 3: least show them that you're doing absolutely everything behind the
- 27:14Speaker 3: scenes to try and get this right. I don't think
- 27:18Speaker 3: future weekends are going to be as grim as Austria was,
- 27:21Speaker 3: But if you're Yamaha, you just can't have weekends like
- 27:24Speaker 3: Austria because it was, you know, some of the words
- 27:26Speaker 3: that quadraro us were a little bit lighter. I mean
- 27:28Speaker 3: it was frankly, it was embarrassing what they were doing
- 27:30Speaker 3: on the weekend.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it definitely definitely was. But let's go over to
- 27:35Speaker 1: someone who didn't have an embarrassing weekend and we've got
- 27:38Speaker 1: to give him a shout out.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Juan Mia, finish your race, top ten, congratch one. I'm
- 27:44Speaker 4: giving you a big round.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Of applause here because this is like a milestone for him,
- 27:47Speaker 1: and I know we shouldn't be like taking the mickey
- 27:49Speaker 1: and everything, but not at all celebrating the fact that he.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Actually finished a race.
- 27:53Speaker 1: And when I thought was really cool is we actually
- 27:55Speaker 1: saw him on the broadcast and the cameras were actually
- 27:57Speaker 1: showing and I could I really see how much those
- 28:02Speaker 1: Hondas were struggling with the front end going into the
- 28:04Speaker 1: corner and the different line that he's really having to take.
- 28:07Speaker 1: This is the first time I could see in a
- 28:08Speaker 1: real race situation. I can't remember who he is around,
- 28:12Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure as a KTM and did you Caddy
- 28:14Speaker 1: at this point, and they're taking fairly similar lines because
- 28:16Speaker 1: they basically look like the same bike from the front
- 28:19Speaker 1: now and then you see the Honda coming in and
- 28:21Speaker 1: it's totally different and no wonder like it makes sense.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Yeah, he was incredibly good. I have two notes in
- 28:27Speaker 3: my notes here for as you aren't Yah. One, he
- 28:30Speaker 3: didn't get knocked off the track by anybody else. That's
- 28:32Speaker 3: always a bonus. That's his second best result since he's
- 28:35Speaker 3: been at Honda. If you can believe that he finished
- 28:38Speaker 3: fifth in India in twenty twenty three. That's how long
- 28:40Speaker 3: it's been. And this wasn't a sixth place that owed
- 28:43Speaker 3: itself to a bunch of people falling off or he
- 28:45Speaker 3: got lucky or this all that happened. He kind of
- 28:48Speaker 3: was having this weekend at Bruno where he qualified really
- 28:50Speaker 3: well and they got punted by Alex Marquez and the
- 28:52Speaker 3: race there, and it's the latest in a long list
- 28:55Speaker 3: of incredibly bad luck for him. Really good ride, super
- 28:59Speaker 3: super good ride, best honder over the course of the weekend,
- 29:01Speaker 3: really impressive. We know that thing's not brilliant in the
- 29:04Speaker 3: straight line, so you talk about the lines he was
- 29:06Speaker 3: having to take to try and fight with ktms and
- 29:08Speaker 3: to caddies, but fair play to him, and he would
- 29:11Speaker 3: just be so relieved that he actually saw the checkered
- 29:13Speaker 3: flag from the track and not watching it back in
- 29:16Speaker 3: the box after someone had punted him. So yeah, good
- 29:19Speaker 3: news story, and there's a good writer in there, and
- 29:21Speaker 3: you know he never stops trying. It was just nice
- 29:23Speaker 3: to see that he actually got some reward for that.
- 29:26Speaker 1: And nice to see Raoul Fernandez as well on the
- 29:30Speaker 1: track house that privily are up closer to the front.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Nice to see like one of the satellite teams and
- 29:36Speaker 1: also like the privately owned team a little bit closer
- 29:39Speaker 1: to the front. We know I is really struggling at
- 29:41Speaker 1: the moment. But apart from that rear right height device
- 29:44Speaker 1: malfunction that was too often, I mean, Raoul's fighting for
- 29:48Speaker 1: that top ten and top five position.
- 29:50Speaker 4: Now.
- 29:51Speaker 3: It's interesting in that, you know, if you looked at
- 29:53Speaker 3: his career, it kind of feels like his story has
- 29:56Speaker 3: been written by now. You know, it's like, well, this
- 29:57Speaker 3: is who this guy is. He's been good. I reckon
- 30:00Speaker 3: he's been good for about the last four or five rounds.
- 30:02Speaker 3: He's making me reassess. I don't think he's ever going
- 30:06Speaker 3: to be the rider that we saw him in Moto two.
- 30:09Speaker 3: We're so awesome as a rookie. It's like, Wow, this
- 30:11Speaker 3: guy could come into Motor GP and be anything. It's
- 30:14Speaker 3: never quite materialized. But I don't think it's I don't
- 30:17Speaker 3: think you can just sort of put him in the
- 30:19Speaker 3: hopeless basket either. There's clearly a decent rider in there.
- 30:21Speaker 3: The bike is getting better, he's starting to get some
- 30:24Speaker 3: better results, and I think the thing that's really interesting
- 30:27Speaker 3: here and this is where Mark is making the difference
- 30:28Speaker 3: at the moment, it feels like the field is sort
- 30:31Speaker 3: of compressing a little bit in that it's not just
- 30:33Speaker 3: the Dakati companymore in that. Yeah, okay, we've had Dakati's
- 30:36Speaker 3: a winning lots of races because they employ Mark Marquez,
- 30:39Speaker 3: but you look at the variety of guys scrapping for podiums. Now,
- 30:42Speaker 3: we talked about Bazeki, you mentioned a Costa before, probably
- 30:45Speaker 3: is going a lot better. Juam is finishing in the
- 30:47Speaker 3: top six, Yamaha has had pole positions this year. It's
- 30:50Speaker 3: good in that it's not just Dakatti's one, two, three, four, five, six,
- 30:53Speaker 3: which is what it was at the start of the year,
- 30:55Speaker 3: which is really interesting. You can go back to like
- 30:57Speaker 3: Thailand when you were there, it was so who's going
- 30:59Speaker 3: to finish seventh? Because that's kind of what it felt like. So, yeah,
- 31:02Speaker 3: we're getting the same guy winning a lot of the
- 31:04Speaker 3: races because he's one of the greatest that's ever done it.
- 31:08Speaker 3: What's going on behind him? It feels like it's a
- 31:10Speaker 3: nice changing picture week on week, and this is what
- 31:12Speaker 3: we want to see. We don't mind if there's one
- 31:15Speaker 3: rider or manufacturer that's winning stuff, but we just don't
- 31:18Speaker 3: want the same race every weekend where unless you're on
- 31:21Speaker 3: a to Caddy you've got absolutely no chance. That's what
- 31:24Speaker 3: it felt like last year. Right now, the other podium
- 31:27Speaker 3: places to me feel super open, and that's what you
- 31:30Speaker 3: want because you get interesting races.
- 31:32Speaker 4: I'm really glad you brought that up because it made
- 31:33Speaker 4: me think.
- 31:34Speaker 1: When we spoke to Chris, my brother on the pod,
- 31:36Speaker 1: and it's pointed to him, is this the time where
- 31:40Speaker 1: we're going to start to see that separation happen? And
- 31:43Speaker 1: I think he was like, no, I think it's going
- 31:45Speaker 1: to take a little while longer. And then you mentioning that,
- 31:47Speaker 1: it's like going, okay, well, yeah, there's not that big
- 31:50Speaker 1: of a separation. I've had Marks in his own league.
- 31:53Speaker 1: But everybody else is there now, All the other manufacturers
- 31:56Speaker 1: are in it. It's not just to Caddy and the rest.
- 32:00Speaker 3: And this is where it gets interesting, right because we
- 32:01Speaker 3: talked about twenty five and twenty six sort of being
- 32:03Speaker 3: one long season over two years. Next year, there will
- 32:07Speaker 3: come a point where all these factories will start to
- 32:09Speaker 3: focus much more on the new rule set than the
- 32:11Speaker 3: current rule set. Right, it makes sense. Why would you
- 32:14Speaker 3: invest a heap of time and resource of money into
- 32:16Speaker 3: something that's going to be obsolete in a few months time.
- 32:19Speaker 3: And often in any sort of motor sport, when you
- 32:21Speaker 3: get a mature rule set and a mature set of
- 32:23Speaker 3: regulations that's been going for a while, everyone kind of
- 32:26Speaker 3: converges on this one way of how you need to
- 32:30Speaker 3: go fast. It happens in Formula one all the time
- 32:32Speaker 3: before rule resets. It's happening here as well. I actually
- 32:36Speaker 3: think we could get a really quite competitive season next
- 32:39Speaker 3: year for second place. And I say that because if
- 32:42Speaker 3: Mark is upright and writing a decade and being Mark Marquez,
- 32:45Speaker 3: then we're probably going to see a continuation of that.
- 32:47Speaker 3: But I thought Austria was interesting in that I don't
- 32:49Speaker 3: think you would have picked necessarily and Aldegaer Berzeki two
- 32:52Speaker 3: to three in that Grand Prix after Friday. Bizeki was
- 32:55Speaker 3: in Q one and Aldegaer, you know, he's not brilliant
- 32:59Speaker 3: in qualifying and he's not over one lap. He's fantastic
- 33:01Speaker 3: at the end of races, and so the fight for
- 33:03Speaker 3: the minor places is certainly interesting at the moment. And
- 33:06Speaker 3: you say, well, I mean I used to see some
- 33:07Speaker 3: different guys win, but it's better than sixty caddies finishing one, two, three, four,
- 33:12Speaker 3: five six. Because they're docaddies, it's at least some variety
- 33:14Speaker 3: for us.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Variety is definitely a word that we can say to
- 33:19Speaker 1: talk about. The next subject I wanted to bring up
- 33:21Speaker 1: because it looks like Diogo Morrera is going to Honda.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Now there's a lot of rumors that he was going
- 33:28Speaker 1: to go to Pramac Yamha, but Matt, I feel like
- 33:31Speaker 1: you've got.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Some juicy goss for us on this.
- 33:33Speaker 2: So what do you know about the Morrera Moto GP
- 33:36Speaker 2: move for next season?
- 33:37Speaker 3: It sounds like there's he's got offers from Yamaha and Honda,
- 33:41Speaker 3: and it looks like the Honda deal is going to
- 33:43Speaker 3: be the one that gets over the line because it
- 33:44Speaker 3: looks like it's longer three years instead of two, so
- 33:47Speaker 3: that takes him across these two rule sets, and he's
- 33:49Speaker 3: also going to get full factory status. The interesting thing
- 33:52Speaker 3: for me is that I always thought that that second
- 33:55Speaker 3: seat at ELSIR was kind of closed off because it
- 33:58Speaker 3: was dependent on having a rider from Southeast Asia to
- 34:01Speaker 3: keep the Iomitzu sponsorship. And we know that Lucio chechenelated
- 34:05Speaker 3: doesn't mind a sponsor dollarphant he do when you're running
- 34:07Speaker 3: a privateer team. It seems like Somkhat Chantra was clearly
- 34:11Speaker 3: promoted too early and he wasn't ready and it's not
- 34:13Speaker 3: worked at all, and he's currently injured and he scored
- 34:16Speaker 3: one point for the entire season. It sounds like they're
- 34:19Speaker 3: prepared to not have that Idamitzu money that they've had
- 34:23Speaker 3: with Chantra and Nakagami before him to get Marera in there.
- 34:27Speaker 3: The interesting part for me is that Brazil we know
- 34:29Speaker 3: is going to have a Grand Prix next year. They're
- 34:31Speaker 3: back on the calendar. You can't tell me that signing
- 34:35Speaker 3: Marera for a privateer Honda team is not going to
- 34:37Speaker 3: bring an incredible amount of commercial interest from Brazil. I'm
- 34:42Speaker 3: not sure if you're familiar with the brand Petro brass
- 34:45Speaker 3: it's the state owned Brazilian petroleum company that every single
- 34:49Speaker 3: time a Brazilian driver's been in Formula One, there's been
- 34:51Speaker 3: Petro Brustick is stuck on the side of those cars.
- 34:54Speaker 3: So that could be your financial shortfall if you're losing Iamitsu,
- 34:58Speaker 3: don't be surprised if we see some Petro bruss Because
- 35:00Speaker 3: on an Elsie R Honda next year. If Marera is
- 35:02Speaker 3: in there, it's super interesting to get a writer from
- 35:05Speaker 3: a country where I guess it would be like what
- 35:07Speaker 3: Alex Barross or someone was the last Brazilian we had,
- 35:09Speaker 3: that's like, what twenty years ago. It's been a really,
- 35:11Speaker 3: really long time, so that's cool, Like it's nice to
- 35:13Speaker 3: have a different nationality in there. The flow on effect
- 35:17Speaker 3: from this, which reading some reading a couple of stories
- 35:22Speaker 3: from Oriel Pugamont with Autosport, who is almost the bible
- 35:24Speaker 3: on these sorts of things. He's absolutely brilliant at it.
- 35:28Speaker 3: It seems to me that this could be announced as
- 35:30Speaker 3: early as this weekend. Perhaps what that would do is
- 35:34Speaker 3: that means Jack Miller's chances of retaining that second Promac
- 35:38Speaker 3: seat go up massively because they've kept Olivera and Miller
- 35:43Speaker 3: hanging on now for a long time. It was going
- 35:44Speaker 3: to be before the break, and then Jack went off
- 35:46Speaker 3: and did Suzuka for Amahara, and it's still lingering, and
- 35:49Speaker 3: it's still lingering, and they're both frustrated by it. Olivera
- 35:52Speaker 3: sounds more sort of resigned to the fact that he's
- 35:54Speaker 3: probably out to be honest. But if Marera took that
- 35:58Speaker 3: spot at Pramak, then that was kind of it, I
- 36:00Speaker 3: don't think Jack had any other options at all, and
- 36:03Speaker 3: so Jack might sort of fall slightly backwards into a
- 36:06Speaker 3: seat there at Yamaha. But something I mentioned before about
- 36:09Speaker 3: keeping Quadurero happy. If you're developing a V four project
- 36:13Speaker 3: and you've got all these spinning plates in the air
- 36:15Speaker 3: of your Yamaha, you can't tell me that Quataurero is
- 36:18Speaker 3: going to be super thrilled with two rookies in the
- 36:20Speaker 3: Pramac lineup if that was what it was going to
- 36:22Speaker 3: come down. So if it was going to be Rascatlioglu
- 36:24Speaker 3: and Marrera, neither of whom have ridden a motor GP bike,
- 36:27Speaker 3: neither of who would have experience with the Inline four
- 36:29Speaker 3: or the V four, or the tires or the tracks
- 36:32Speaker 3: and so on and so forth, and then have to
- 36:34Speaker 3: learn it all again for twenty twenty seven when everything changes.
- 36:37Speaker 3: So I think Jack, the reason Jack was hired in
- 36:39Speaker 3: the first place is because he's got experience with all
- 36:41Speaker 3: the other manufacturers. He's been around a long time. We
- 36:44Speaker 3: know he was really influential with Decaddy as a guy
- 36:47Speaker 3: who would test new items, their ride height device and
- 36:50Speaker 3: so on and so forth. For Quaduro to know there's
- 36:52Speaker 3: an experienced head who's kind of seen and done everything
- 36:56Speaker 3: at this point working in the junior team if you
- 36:58Speaker 3: like the B team be for a short time, but
- 37:01Speaker 3: I think it's probably good for Yamaha to have Jack's
- 37:03Speaker 3: experience still there. Marrera is super impressive, like he's having
- 37:08Speaker 3: a really really good motor two season, absolute class of
- 37:10Speaker 3: the field in Austria, which was a good timing when
- 37:13Speaker 3: you negotiating a contract with Andre I would have thought.
- 37:15Speaker 3: But so we might have an exciting young Brazilian on
- 37:18Speaker 3: the Greed next year and we might still have our
- 37:20Speaker 3: veteran Australian, which for Australian fans sounds like a win win.
- 37:24Speaker 4: So you're seeing this.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Possibly Jack's not moving to the Factory team like the
- 37:28Speaker 1: rumors were saying. He might say at Promak and Alex
- 37:31Speaker 1: Rinz might stay at Monster Rateergy.
- 37:32Speaker 3: It sounds like Palo Paversio was asked about this in
- 37:37Speaker 3: the Friday team principal's press conference in Austria, primarily a sponsor.
- 37:42Speaker 3: I think to the interview that Jack Appleyard did with
- 37:44Speaker 3: us when he mentioned the fact that there was perhaps
- 37:46Speaker 3: getting a little bit shaky with Alex's tenure there at
- 37:50Speaker 3: the Monster Yamaha team. Pavesio said, no, no, no, Alex will
- 37:53Speaker 3: be staying, which okay, I admire him backing his rider.
- 37:58Speaker 3: There's no statistical sense for that comment. But he's under contract,
- 38:02Speaker 3: and the Japanese factories aren't super aren't super keen on
- 38:06Speaker 3: breaking contracts generally with factory riders, let's be honest. So
- 38:09Speaker 3: it sounds very much like Alex Rings is going to
- 38:11Speaker 3: get a stay of execution. We've had this discussion before.
- 38:14Speaker 3: It's not Alex's fault necessarily, but he's not the writer
- 38:16Speaker 3: that he once was. But it sounds like that avenue
- 38:18Speaker 3: is closed off. But reading the tea leaves here, it
- 38:22Speaker 3: feels that the Miller Pramaha drink there you go. Miller
- 38:28Speaker 3: Pramaha access is going to continue, probably for at least
- 38:31Speaker 3: one more year. What happens for twenty seven interesting right
- 38:34Speaker 3: with Pramak because Rascal Leioglue and this is another thing
- 38:38Speaker 3: that Jack Appleyard said on this podcast. He comes in
- 38:40Speaker 3: with a huge reputation and we're super interested to see
- 38:43Speaker 3: how he's going to go. There's no guarantee it's going
- 38:45Speaker 3: to be good. He's going to be a twenty nine
- 38:46Speaker 3: year old rookie learning how to ride Michelin tires and
- 38:49Speaker 3: motor GP bikes and a whole bunch of circuits he's
- 38:51Speaker 3: never been on. It might not be that amazing, at
- 38:54Speaker 3: least initially. Or he might just be so talented that
- 38:56Speaker 3: he can get on one of these things and make
- 38:58Speaker 3: it sing from the start. Right now, what's Yamaha's succession plan?
- 39:02Speaker 3: So Alex Reins is out of contract at the end
- 39:04Speaker 3: of twenty six, it's hard to mount a case to
- 39:06Speaker 3: him being retained after that. Then what do Yamaha do
- 39:09Speaker 3: Because they've got the a lister in Quaaterero, the other
- 39:12Speaker 3: seats are a little bit I'm not quite sure what
- 39:14Speaker 3: they're doing with them at the moment. So I don't
- 39:17Speaker 3: think Jack's going to be a motor GP for a
- 39:19Speaker 3: long long time. He's already been in MOTORGP for quite
- 39:22Speaker 3: a while, let's be honest. But I think he still
- 39:24Speaker 3: has a lot to offer that project for what it
- 39:26Speaker 3: needs right now. And then they'll come a point where
- 39:28Speaker 3: they've moved on and Jack's ready to move on, and
- 39:30Speaker 3: it'll be a mutually a mutually agreeable parting, you might say, So, yeah,
- 39:36Speaker 3: watch this space. I expect the Marera thing probably lobs first,
- 39:39Speaker 3: and then at some point Pramak will say, all right,
- 39:41Speaker 3: well we've got to keep one of our two current writers,
- 39:44Speaker 3: and the one they probably keep is Jack, So.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Let's move on to the ossies because it was exciting
- 39:49Speaker 1: this weekend. We had five ossies on the track.
- 39:52Speaker 4: Yeah, which is pretty cool.
- 39:54Speaker 1: To see the Legends parade, the one thousand, one thousandth
- 39:57Speaker 1: sorry because.
- 39:58Speaker 2: That's hard word to say, easy to write.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Easy to write, exactly, Moroto GP race and they brought
- 40:03Speaker 1: out the Legends Parade and Casey was there. It was
- 40:06Speaker 1: quite nice to see him back on that repsol Hond delivery.
- 40:10Speaker 4: He's just so iconic as.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Then Casey in the twenty seven and just to see
- 40:14Speaker 1: him back on his USC two and three B as.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Well as goosebumps awesome. Yeah, he looks in good Nick Casey.
- 40:21Speaker 3: I know he obviously had some health issues and stuff
- 40:23Speaker 3: over the years, but you forget how gungny still is.
- 40:26Speaker 3: He looks like he could probably get back on the
- 40:27Speaker 3: grid tomorrow and have a crack at it. But how
- 40:29Speaker 3: good was it to see that bike? And is that
- 40:31Speaker 3: funny how your eyes do funny things? Like we were
- 40:34Speaker 3: trying to stop saying Repsol Honda at the beginning of
- 40:36Speaker 3: the year because it wasn't Repsol Honda for the first
- 40:38Speaker 3: time ever. And you see that bike back on track
- 40:41Speaker 3: again and everything just looks right with the world again.
- 40:43Speaker 3: It's just an orange bike. Awesome livery amazing rider on it. Yeah,
- 40:47Speaker 3: it looked like it was a nice throwback and very
- 40:50Speaker 3: very nice to see.
- 40:51Speaker 4: It's a shamer.
- 40:52Speaker 1: We couldn't see more of the bikes and everything on track,
- 40:55Speaker 1: you know, Simon Crazy, Lakoma Agustini was there, Lauras Caparrossi, so,
- 40:59Speaker 1: I mean, a lot of it who do work in
- 41:01Speaker 1: Daughter in the Panic and whatnot. But cool to see
- 41:03Speaker 1: Casey there. And then we had that little interaction with
- 41:06Speaker 1: Casey and Valentino on.
- 41:07Speaker 4: The grid though.
- 41:08Speaker 1: That was funny, quite interesting from our fierce rivals, shall
- 41:11Speaker 1: we say, from your ambition outweighs your talent to a
- 41:14Speaker 1: nice handshake and a smile on the grid.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Yeah, they kind of buried the hatchet. I mean, you
- 41:18Speaker 3: remember that video last year when Casey went to the
- 41:20Speaker 3: ranch and he was doing some motocross with Valentino. And
- 41:24Speaker 3: when these guys get older and they're not fighting with
- 41:26Speaker 3: one another anymore, I think there's a general level of
- 41:28Speaker 3: respect there. It's nice to see a couple of legends
- 41:32Speaker 3: rubbing shoulders amicably because it certainly wasn't like that in
- 41:34Speaker 3: the past. But I do like how you've set this
- 41:36Speaker 3: up with let's talk about the other ossies, because frankly,
- 41:39Speaker 3: I think Casey Stotter was the best performing Australian at
- 41:42Speaker 3: Spielberg over the course of the weekend because everyone else
- 41:45Speaker 3: had a bit of a shocker or was very slow
- 41:47Speaker 3: or in the case of Center ages very painful ending
- 41:50Speaker 3: to his weekend.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know if you guys listening, if you've
- 41:53Speaker 1: seen that crash of centners and you know I did
- 41:55Speaker 1: post it after I saw him get up and walk
- 41:58Speaker 1: away from it.
- 41:58Speaker 4: But wow, that was a big crash.
- 42:01Speaker 1: I've been trying to find out that inner details it.
- 42:03Speaker 1: At one moment it looked like he possibly had someone
- 42:06Speaker 1: run over his leg or I don't know the ins
- 42:09Speaker 1: and outs, but taking from what the team of post
- 42:12Speaker 1: on socials, what Center's posted on socials is that he's
- 42:15Speaker 1: gone to have some more checks and it's going to
- 42:18Speaker 1: be a recovery time. So Matt, have you heard any
- 42:21Speaker 1: latest news on Senna?
- 42:23Speaker 3: No, we know that He was taken to a trackside
- 42:26Speaker 3: hospital and then which to Barcelona for some more medical checks,
- 42:29Speaker 3: so you know, his participation for this weekend. We don't
- 42:31Speaker 3: know whether that's happening or not yet. He could probably
- 42:34Speaker 3: use a gap between Austria and Hungary that's longer than
- 42:37Speaker 3: a few days. But it was a scary one in
- 42:39Speaker 3: that that chicane which is kind of a band aid
- 42:43Speaker 3: solution to a problem there at Austria. It's not the
- 42:45Speaker 3: most elegant way of changing a racetrack. The first laps
- 42:48Speaker 3: of all the races are a bit fraught there. You
- 42:50Speaker 3: just have to be on the outside and have to
- 42:52Speaker 3: check up to avoid somebody, and things like that can happen.
- 42:54Speaker 3: He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,
- 42:57Speaker 3: so it's one of those ones like you looked at
- 42:59Speaker 3: the accident thought that could have been worse, but still
- 43:02Speaker 3: it certainly wasn't pleasant, and yeah, he wasn't looking too
- 43:05Speaker 3: great when he got up, so better to be safe
- 43:08Speaker 3: than sorry, were these things, particularly if there's a concussion involved,
- 43:10Speaker 3: And yeah, I would I would be surprised if he
- 43:16Speaker 3: was racing and hungry this weekend, but that would you know,
- 43:19Speaker 3: we're know what motorcycle races are like if someone says
- 43:21Speaker 3: you can race, theyre going to race. So well, guess we'll.
- 43:23Speaker 2: See at a young twenty year old motorcycle racer.
- 43:25Speaker 4: Is not going to take no for an answer.
- 43:27Speaker 1: But we will keep you updated on any other news
- 43:30Speaker 1: that we hear about. Ossie sent Aegeus and yeah, like
- 43:33Speaker 1: you said, rough weekendles for Joel and Jacob in Moto three,
- 43:37Speaker 1: but Moto three racing.
- 43:39Speaker 3: Oh man, it is sure.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Sure, let's quickly move on because if you guys have
- 43:46Speaker 1: sucked around, thank you. We're going to move on to
- 43:49Speaker 1: Hungry and a new circuit that we never been to before,
- 43:52Speaker 1: Ballaton Parks. So we know a lot of writers have
- 43:55Speaker 1: tested here on stup mikes or six hundreds in their
- 43:58Speaker 1: spare time. I was talking to when I was actually
- 44:00Speaker 1: in Europe Eloer this year and he mentioned the track
- 44:03Speaker 1: surface was quite interesting there. That was back in the summer,
- 44:07Speaker 1: but I know it's still hot. He was saying that
- 44:08Speaker 1: it's crumbling a little bit. And then I don't know, Mattter,
- 44:11Speaker 1: if you've seen that Jiucaddi video where they factory Jacaddi
- 44:15Speaker 1: and the privateer teams went and tested there and Mark
- 44:18Speaker 1: was saying just how.
- 44:21Speaker 4: The rear tire was just sliding.
- 44:22Speaker 1: And I don't know, if we're here they were making
- 44:24Speaker 1: it up and trying to tell a story or whatnot.
- 44:26Speaker 1: But from me my opinion, look, I'm not the racer
- 44:29Speaker 1: track looks narrow and the corners look quite slow. But
- 44:34Speaker 1: my question to you is is that going to make
- 44:36Speaker 1: it more of an even playing field this weekend kind
- 44:38Speaker 1: of like what we saw back in Bruno, because no
- 44:41Speaker 1: one has the data from this place.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Yeah, that's always a good thing in that everyone's literally
- 44:45Speaker 3: going there with a completely clean sheet of paper. We
- 44:48Speaker 3: know that Ducatti sent all their riders there on some
- 44:50Speaker 3: Panagales to bomb around during the mid season break. Classic
- 44:54Speaker 3: Dacadi like, We're just going to fly all six of
- 44:55Speaker 3: our riders and Mikaylee Piro in there and there's seven
- 44:58Speaker 3: brand new Panagales and you guys just go and get
- 45:00Speaker 3: your eye in because you can. Classic to Caddy, this
- 45:03Speaker 3: is why they're leading everything. But I do like the
- 45:06Speaker 3: fact that it is a real step into the unknown.
- 45:08Speaker 3: I like a new circuit. I think it's the most
- 45:10Speaker 3: level of level playing fields. I like a new circuit generally.
- 45:14Speaker 3: I don't know if I'm liking this circuit particularly much.
- 45:17Speaker 3: It's an odd circuit. Lad anyone that's listening to this
- 45:20Speaker 3: go and find a track map of this thing. The
- 45:22Speaker 3: first corner first four corner sequence is just not necessarily
- 45:28Speaker 3: conducive to great motor GP racing. It really concerns me
- 45:32Speaker 3: with the funnel effect into that first corner. And if
- 45:35Speaker 3: anyone saw what happened on the first lap of the
- 45:37Speaker 3: first World Superbikes Race there a couple of months or
- 45:40Speaker 3: end of July rather, there was a six bike pile
- 45:43Speaker 3: up in the first quarter and it's pretty sketchy because
- 45:47Speaker 3: it almost turns completely back on itself and then onto
- 45:50Speaker 3: its right and then there's three consecutive left hand as
- 45:52Speaker 3: that follow So trying to imagine twenty two motor GP
- 45:55Speaker 3: bikes thundering and term one there's going to be super interesting.
- 45:59Speaker 3: Not sure how that's going to play out. I think
- 46:01Speaker 3: the sprint will give us a bit of a bit
- 46:03Speaker 3: of a test as to what that's going to be like.
- 46:04Speaker 3: It's an odd layout. Banyaya. After testing the Panagali they said,
- 46:08Speaker 3: I don't think we'll use sixth gear here, and that
- 46:11Speaker 3: shows you how slow it's going to be. A lot
- 46:13Speaker 3: of Chicanes. It's a different track, right, And I don't
- 46:16Speaker 3: mind the idea of you don't want twenty two cookie
- 46:20Speaker 3: cutter race tracks here, you want you know, you don't
- 46:22Speaker 3: want twenty two Austrias. One Austria is fine. One ballot
- 46:25Speaker 3: on park is fine. The reason we rave about places
- 46:28Speaker 3: like Bagello and Acid and Philip Island is because they
- 46:31Speaker 3: are there completely outlies. They're ones of one, you know,
- 46:34Speaker 3: varieties of spice of life and all that sort of stuff.
- 46:36Speaker 3: So I'm not sure it's going to be the It's
- 46:40Speaker 3: not going to be some high speed thriller rollercoaster of
- 46:42Speaker 3: a race track. It's pretty flat and it's pretty tight,
- 46:44Speaker 3: and it's going to be pretty slow. But it's a
- 46:46Speaker 3: different style of race. And what you said before about
- 46:49Speaker 3: no one being super prepared for this, I quite like
- 46:52Speaker 3: the challenge of you get to a new place and
- 46:54Speaker 3: it's like, well, you've only really got one practice session
- 46:56Speaker 3: now to learn this thing on Friday, because you're straight
- 46:59Speaker 3: into what is effected Q zero in the end of
- 47:02Speaker 3: practice on Friday, You've got to try and get yourself
- 47:04Speaker 3: into Q two if that's possible. So this becomes a
- 47:07Speaker 3: weekend of who can learn the fastest, and who can
- 47:09Speaker 3: live on their wits and who is prepared to push
- 47:11Speaker 3: when things aren't completely perfect. You don't have the data,
- 47:15Speaker 3: The track's a little bit sketchy. You're still finding out
- 47:17Speaker 3: where the limits are corner after quarter. So if that
- 47:20Speaker 3: doesn't sound like a recipe for Mark Marquez to make
- 47:22Speaker 3: everyone look a bit silly and Friday practice, I don't
- 47:24Speaker 3: know what it is. Because a new track and marquees
- 47:27Speaker 3: and a chance to explore the limits, yeah, I don't
- 47:30Speaker 3: think you'll get through the day without possibly scuffing his
- 47:32Speaker 3: letters a little bit, but you'll find the limit pretty
- 47:34Speaker 3: early and then try and stay within it.
- 47:37Speaker 1: I put on the superbikes on KO back from when
- 47:41Speaker 1: they last a ballot on Park, and I pointed out
- 47:43Speaker 1: the fact that they hadn't mowed the grass on the
- 47:45Speaker 1: edge of the track, so the grass was coming up
- 47:48Speaker 1: onto the curb and I thought that was hilarious. Other
- 47:50Speaker 1: it was just such a superbike thing, but it made me, Yeah,
- 47:53Speaker 1: I wonder what.
- 47:53Speaker 4: It's going to be like for Moto GP.
- 47:55Speaker 1: But looking at the track layer and I only watched
- 47:58Speaker 1: a few laps, it looks like real chicanes.
- 48:00Speaker 4: In this circuit.
- 48:02Speaker 3: Sure is, And that's what the difference. When it's a
- 48:03Speaker 3: car circuit, they're just flat out kinks, and I think
- 48:06Speaker 3: the you know, you need to put the chicanes in
- 48:08Speaker 3: for bikes, just for runoff room and the fact that
- 48:10Speaker 3: the track is it's in quite a narrow piece of
- 48:12Speaker 3: land and that it quite loops back on itself, so
- 48:15Speaker 3: you'll have one of those a bit like Urmass where
- 48:17Speaker 3: you have the long back straight and then the section
- 48:19Speaker 3: immediately after where you're almost riding at the guys coming
- 48:21Speaker 3: on the other part of the track, which again I'm
- 48:23Speaker 3: doing hand signals here on a podcast, completely useless, but
- 48:26Speaker 3: in a small part of a piece of real estate,
- 48:28Speaker 3: and I think you need the chicanes to maybe knock
- 48:31Speaker 3: the top speed down a little bit, get it turned,
- 48:34Speaker 3: then change and go again. So it's going to be
- 48:35Speaker 3: super stop star It's not going to be a great
- 48:38Speaker 3: flow to it. But it's the same for everybody, right,
- 48:40Speaker 3: everyone's got the same challenge here. This strikes me as
- 48:43Speaker 3: a weekend where you might see a few random outliers
- 48:46Speaker 3: of like a guy who just adapts really quickly. You'll
- 48:48Speaker 3: look into Q two and you go, what's that guy
- 48:50Speaker 3: doing in Q two? He's barely been there all year,
- 48:53Speaker 3: So from an interest point of view, I think it's
- 48:54Speaker 3: going to be pretty high because for all the viewers,
- 48:57Speaker 3: all the riders, no one's got any experience of this.
- 48:59Speaker 3: Love be a new track because it's it just it
- 49:02Speaker 3: resets things for a weekend where you know, the other
- 49:04Speaker 3: weekends perhaps can be a little bit more predictable.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Wouldn't it be good just thinking out around here if
- 49:09Speaker 1: we saw like an I Grew a comeback like what
- 49:11Speaker 1: we saw entire lab.
- 49:12Speaker 2: Where he just like it came out of nowhere rookie, You're.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Like, whoa, he's in like the top five, and then
- 49:18Speaker 1: the rest of the season in nowhere come into a
- 49:20Speaker 1: track like this, you just see I Grew again and
- 49:22Speaker 1: go straight into Q two like and this.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Will be one of those weekends where for whatever reason,
- 49:28Speaker 3: someone will hit the ground running on Friday and go
- 49:30Speaker 3: feeling good here And this is going to be a
- 49:32Speaker 3: track where, because no one's got any experience, confidence and
- 49:35Speaker 3: early confidence is going to be key. And that's why
- 49:38Speaker 3: I think you'll get to the end of Friday and
- 49:40Speaker 3: you'll see three names that are in Q two that
- 49:42Speaker 3: you'll be like, oh, that's a big surprise. So if
- 49:45Speaker 3: you've had a bit of a crappy weekend in Austria, Yamaha,
- 49:49Speaker 3: maybe there's a chance for someone like Couadarero, who we
- 49:52Speaker 3: know can just extract lap times out of bikes that
- 49:54Speaker 3: probably don't deserve it. Maybe you see him in Q two,
- 49:57Speaker 3: he just pulls out a stunning lab a week after
- 49:59Speaker 3: they were complitly useless in Austria.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Well, ma'am, I'm not gonna ask you for your your
- 50:04Speaker 1: predictions this weekend because, like you just said, we don't know.
- 50:07Speaker 1: I've hurt from the fact of Mark Marquez possibly dominating,
- 50:11Speaker 1: so we'll leave that to the actual on track action.
- 50:15Speaker 1: But that pretty much rounds up our recap from Austria
- 50:18Speaker 1: and our little look ahead at what we do know
- 50:20Speaker 1: about Balaton Park.
- 50:21Speaker 4: Moto GP is.
