- 0:34Speaker 1: Of the vicinity.
- 0:36Speaker 9: The Coast Guard and the Navy have been alerted and
- 0:38Speaker 9: are standing by on the eastern seaboard.
- 0:41Speaker 3: And it continues to burn out of control.
- 0:43Speaker 10: It has been regular.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Every five to ten minutes, there has been another convoy

- 1:01Speaker 1: It's time for Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killers soundtrack.
- 1:08Speaker 13: The live transmission has begun, and we're into the final.
- 1:12Speaker 14: Hour of hell.
- 1:33Speaker 1: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of the
- 1:35Speaker 1: Killer soundtrack. I am Brian.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I'm Phillip.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:40Speaker 1: the Oddity Studios, or quarantine zone, depending on who you
- 1:46Speaker 1: are and where you are. It has been a while
- 1:50Speaker 1: on this channel. This own sideshow that it is. All
- 1:55Speaker 1: of ours are a sideshow, truthfully. But sideshow from the
- 1:59Speaker 1: normal movie meltdown. But I was thinking of that for
- 2:02Speaker 1: the last several months. I was like, it has been
- 2:04Speaker 1: a long time since we've done a soundtrack episode. And
- 2:08Speaker 1: I like doing those, and I like mixing it up
- 2:10Speaker 1: with those. So I was like, we need to find
- 2:12Speaker 1: a good reason... And then time went on and we
- 2:15Speaker 1: did a bunch of other stuff and we watched Ghosts
- 2:17Speaker 1: for Halloween and we've done many things in between now
- 2:19Speaker 1: and then. But we got to this week and I
- 2:21Speaker 1: was like, what the hell are we going to do
- 2:22Speaker 1: this week? And then as I checked in with certain
- 2:25Speaker 1: members of our staff, they might have a staff infection,
- 2:29Speaker 1: but I checked it. No, that's not the reason. At
- 2:33Speaker 1: least one of our normal horror club crew is on
- 2:37Speaker 1: quarantine right now. So we thought that was a good
- 2:41Speaker 1: way to tie into this episode. Let's go live via
- 2:45Speaker 1: digital satellite to Nora in quarantine.
- 2:49Speaker 13: Yay!
- 2:50Speaker 3: Bye!
- 2:53Speaker 1: So, if you've been listening all the time, good for you.
- 2:58Speaker 1: More power to you. And if you're one of the
- 3:02Speaker 1: Horror Club members, and if you're not, who cares? You're
- 3:05Speaker 1: not supporting us at all.
- 3:06Speaker 15: Way to go.
- 3:07Speaker 1: But if you are, you have already gotten to listen
- 3:10Speaker 1: to my quarantine episode. Cause I already fought off the
- 3:15Speaker 1: infection of the year. And, um, yeah, that was a
- 3:18Speaker 1: month or two ago now, I guess it's been time,
- 3:21Speaker 1: but about that together.
- 3:23Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 3:23Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Time means nothing in 2020, but, um, so yeah, this,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I already had my version, so you can go back
- 3:30Speaker 1: and listen to that if you missed it. But, um, yeah,
- 3:32Speaker 1: then we got to this week and I'm like, Hey,
- 3:34Speaker 1: you guys want to record? And Nora, what did you
- 3:37Speaker 1: tell me?
- 3:37Speaker 8: I got exposed.
- 3:41Speaker 1: But you're still waiting for the test results. Am I right?
- 3:46Speaker 8: Yes, I got my test yesterday, which would have been
- 3:49Speaker 8: a Saturday. And I highly recommend the CVS drive-thru run.
- 3:54Speaker 8: It was really fast. And they only put it like
- 3:56Speaker 8: an inch up your nose as opposed to like all
- 3:58Speaker 8: the way touching your brain.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And we need to get to this. Because I think, Philip,
- 4:03Speaker 1: you're calling bullshit on this one.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I am calling bullshit. My medical professional, the wife, is
- 4:07Speaker 3: calling bullshit.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Okay, here's the thing. I don't remember if I told
- 4:12Speaker 1: you about mine, because I had to go get tested
- 4:14Speaker 1: once someone else I work with was exposed. And they
- 4:17Speaker 1: were like, oh, everybody should go get tested. I'm like, yeah, alright,
- 4:20Speaker 1: that makes sense. So I went to a drive-thru stop,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and some medical professional, I guess, I really don't know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: I was just in a parking lot, could have been
- 4:29Speaker 1: a random homeless person for all I know, but they
- 4:31Speaker 1: were dressed in some sort of scrubs. So the homeless
- 4:35Speaker 1: person in scrubs came up and did theirs, and This
- 4:38Speaker 1: is the thing. Everybody talks about them jamming it all
- 4:41Speaker 1: the way up in there and touching your brain. So
- 4:43Speaker 1: that I was prepared for. It's not so much the
- 4:47Speaker 1: up there touching your brain as much as how long
- 4:51Speaker 1: they left it there.
- 4:52Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 4:53Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Everybody I've talked to is just like, oh, for like, what,
- 4:57Speaker 1: three seconds, five seconds? It was a good ten seconds
- 5:00Speaker 1: of her going, okay, now breathe, and remember to breathe.
- 5:04Speaker 1: It was up there so long she had to keep
- 5:06Speaker 1: telling me, don't forget to breathe. I'm like, or take
- 5:10Speaker 1: it out eventually. I don't know, maybe that's just me,
- 5:13Speaker 1: but I don't want to live with this thing jammed
- 5:15Speaker 1: into my brain. So that was my question for you, Nora.
- 5:18Speaker 1: How long did yours go up into your head?
- 5:22Speaker 5: Um.
- 5:23Speaker 8: Probably like an inch or two.
- 5:27Speaker 1: But how long was it there?
- 5:29Speaker 8: Oh, how long? She told me to like wiggle it
- 5:32Speaker 8: around five times in each nostril. So I don't know,
- 5:36Speaker 8: like 10 seconds.
- 5:39Speaker 1: That's between both. See, they also... I've heard so many...
- 5:42Speaker 1: This was my thing.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I think they only did one on mine.
- 5:44Speaker 1: That was what I was saying. There's no consistency to
- 5:47Speaker 1: this test. This is why our country is dying. Because
- 5:50Speaker 1: there's no... Like, we have no idea what the hell
- 5:52Speaker 1: we're doing. There's no consistency. Nobody seems to know what...
- 5:55Speaker 1: Because I've talked to people that it was up there
- 5:57Speaker 1: for three seconds. I've talked to people that had it
- 6:00Speaker 1: done on both nostrils. But mine was... in there for
- 6:04Speaker 1: an hour and a half but only went up one
- 6:06Speaker 1: side I'm like what why is there not a system.
- 6:09Speaker 8: Yeah that doesn't make a whole lot of sense that's.
- 6:12Speaker 1: What I'm saying I feel like if this is something
- 6:14Speaker 1: medical doctors people in the medical field should probably get
- 6:19Speaker 1: together and be like okay now how do we do
- 6:22Speaker 1: this exactly right isn't there a way to do these
- 6:25Speaker 1: tests and yeah so that's what I'm saying there's some
- 6:30Speaker 1: inconsistency going on in these tests.
- 6:35Speaker 3: I'm just upset that you guys got to go through
- 6:37Speaker 3: the drive-thru. I had to get out of my car, walk,
- 6:41Speaker 3: stand in line. Sucker.
- 6:44Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. You know my other favorite part of my trip?
- 6:52Speaker 1: As I'm sitting there in the car, I watch, there's
- 6:55Speaker 1: the person up here, and they've got their scrubs on,
- 6:57Speaker 1: they've got gloves, they've got the face shield, they've got
- 7:00Speaker 1: a mask on. They're totally locked down as they're doing
- 7:04Speaker 1: the test. This other person comes out from inside to
- 7:09Speaker 1: pick up the tests that have been done previous, I suppose.
- 7:12Speaker 1: They just came out to like pick up a big
- 7:13Speaker 1: bin full of stuff that I'm assuming is gross nose
- 7:16Speaker 1: swabs and take them inside. That person had scrubs on,
- 7:21Speaker 1: we'll say. So I assume they at least work there.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Didn't have gloves on. Weren't wearing a mask. I was like,
- 7:29Speaker 1: if anyone should be wearing that stuff, wouldn't it be you?
- 7:34Speaker 3: I don't care what you're testing for. If you're telling
- 7:38Speaker 3: me to pick up a box full of snotty cotton swabs.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Even if it weren't 2020, that's kind of gross. Right.
- 7:48Speaker 3: I'm wearing some as they call PPE.
- 7:52Speaker 1: So just another fun fact about testing sites out there.
- 7:58Speaker 1: We're all going to die, people. Anyway. So, as our
- 8:04Speaker 1: live satellite report from the lockdown zone, how's it going, Nora?
- 8:12Speaker 8: You know, it's not as bad as it could be,
- 8:16Speaker 8: I guess.
- 8:18Speaker 1: That was my takeaway. I was like, yeah, you know,
- 8:20Speaker 1: I was bored. I was like, truthfully, it was barely
- 8:23Speaker 1: a difference. Other than they wouldn't let me go to
- 8:26Speaker 1: work to do work. But other than that, I'm like,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I don't really go anywhere the rest of the time anyway.
- 8:31Speaker 8: Yeah, exactly. The only place I really went to was Kroger.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, if they'd let me go buy
- 8:37Speaker 1: my own groceries, this would be just like every other
- 8:39Speaker 1: week of my life. But instead, I had to like
- 8:42Speaker 1: sucker family members into leaving groceries on my doorstep, which
- 8:45Speaker 1: is what they did. So I am grateful for that,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I suppose.
- 8:48Speaker 8: That's nice.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I did have burritos delivered to my house at least
- 8:52Speaker 1: twice during my lockdown.
- 8:53Speaker 17: Fantastic.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So points to my sister because she knew my weakness
- 8:57Speaker 1: for a certain drive-thru taco delivery people. And she went
- 9:02Speaker 1: and got them and brought them here herself. So points
- 9:04Speaker 1: to her. I kind of miss it now, truthfully. I
- 9:08Speaker 1: wish I could just open the door and burritos would
- 9:09Speaker 1: be there.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Oh, that's the dream.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yeah, isn't it though?
- 9:14Speaker 8: And I have my boyfriend and cat. So at least
- 9:19Speaker 8: I'm not totally solo because I might lose my mind.
- 9:23Speaker 1: And you're exposing them. Be careful, cat. Tell that cat
- 9:27Speaker 1: they can get it.
- 9:29Speaker 8: Cats can get it?
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:32Speaker 8: Well, I also haven't had any symptoms, and it's been
- 9:34Speaker 8: eight days now, so.
- 9:36Speaker 1: That's also good, but we're mostly worried about the cat.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Is the cat okay?
- 9:40Speaker 8: He seems okay. He's snoozing right next to me.
- 9:43Speaker 1: All right, all right. Well, as long as the cat's fine. And,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you know, it's nice that you're not infected. But, yeah, giant...
- 9:51Speaker 1: I was thinking about getting a tiger anyway, but then
- 9:54Speaker 1: I was like, well, this is probably not the year
- 9:56Speaker 1: because tigers keep getting it.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 9:58Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 9:59Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 10:00Speaker 1: It's no joke. It's been on the news many a time.
- 10:03Speaker 1: In fact, I think just this past week, one- Like
- 10:07Speaker 1: a jaguar or something at our zoo got it? Like,
- 10:09Speaker 1: or showing symptoms?
- 10:11Speaker 3: What is going on?
- 10:12Speaker 1: It's just weird. That's the only animal. Like, something about
- 10:15Speaker 1: the weird feline makeup is, like, susceptible. But I haven't
- 10:18Speaker 1: heard any other animals.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they said, no, it doesn't look like
- 10:22Speaker 3: dogs can get it.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But cats. That's what I told my dog when we
- 10:25Speaker 1: were sitting here. Just me and her every day of
- 10:28Speaker 1: my lockdown. I was just like, well, at least you're safe.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Good thing I didn't get that tiger. She was like,
- 10:33Speaker 1: I'll kick that tiger's ass.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:37Speaker 8: Another reason we can let Joe Exotic out of jail.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Do we really want to? I mean, I've seen him.
- 10:45Speaker 1: That's all I need. Case closed. Please stay away from humanity.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Can we get him on the show?
- 10:50Speaker 1: Do we have to?
- 10:52Speaker 3: No, but I mean, we don't have to, but that'd
- 10:55Speaker 3: be a good get.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I mean, you already have that outfit, right? You can
- 10:59Speaker 1: just come here dressed like him. How about that? Yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Anybody remember when he ran for president? Like back before
- 11:06Speaker 3: Tiger King was a thing, he was actually running for
- 11:09Speaker 3: president somewhere.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I'm going to go with no, but.
- 11:12Speaker 16: I think it.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Was John Oliver was obsessed with it and kept running, like,
- 11:17Speaker 3: here's the latest updates on Joe Exotic.
- 11:19Speaker 1: This was like the last round?
- 11:20Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I mean, we could have made worse choices. Anyway. So,
- 11:30Speaker 1: any other fun facts to pass along, Nora?
- 11:33Speaker 3: Um.
- 11:35Speaker 8: No, just watching a whole lot of bad Christmas-themed slasher
- 11:40Speaker 8: movies to pass the time.
- 11:44Speaker 1: As a follow-up to our previous episode, I did just
- 11:47Speaker 1: last night watch the 2006 Black Christmas.
- 11:52Speaker 17: Oh, yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 8: I thought about that one. Is it worth it?
- 11:55Speaker 1: Technically, not to plug anyone, but it's streaming for free online.
- 11:58Speaker 1: It's something that you probably watch a lot of videos
- 12:01Speaker 1: on right now anyway. But it's fun like it's one
- 12:06Speaker 1: i i watched it once and just kind of went
- 12:08Speaker 1: it's not the first one which okay i knew that
- 12:11Speaker 1: going in so like take that out because we bragged
- 12:14Speaker 1: many and an extended uh amount of time on the
- 12:18Speaker 1: last episode about how awesome the first one was but
- 12:22Speaker 1: it is a it pales in comparison to that original
- 12:25Speaker 1: bob clark one but if you take that out and
- 12:28Speaker 1: you just watch it here's the difference between our most
- 12:31Speaker 1: recent version. It works as a horror movie. It's in
- 12:35Speaker 1: fact on a whole different level. It is a really gory,
- 12:40Speaker 1: really brutal. Like there are scenes where I was just like, wow,
- 12:43Speaker 1: they're just going there and then stay in there for
- 12:48Speaker 1: a little while extra. Like it just, there's scenes that
- 12:51Speaker 1: could have been with a little bit of violence and then, oh,
- 12:54Speaker 1: they take it to another level of violence. So, They
- 12:57Speaker 1: knew that they were making an extra gory, super over-the-top,
- 13:01Speaker 1: you know, gross movie.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Well, good for them.
- 13:04Speaker 1: And other than that, it's also, like, shot pretty interestingly. Like,
- 13:08Speaker 1: they really seem to put a little work into just
- 13:11Speaker 1: kind of throwing some weird angles in there. So it
- 13:15Speaker 1: is at least visually interesting to look at. I will
- 13:18Speaker 1: warn anyone who hasn't seen it, also ugly. So in
- 13:23Speaker 1: addition to the gross factor, it's just... I guess that's
- 13:27Speaker 1: why they cast a lot of really attractive girls, because
- 13:30Speaker 1: that's the only nice, pretty thing you're going to see
- 13:33Speaker 1: the entire movie. Everything else is just like, God, everything
- 13:37Speaker 1: about this is just ugly. Our other characters are just
- 13:44Speaker 1: the scenes themselves. It gets super dark in the middle,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and all you have is twinkling Christmas lights and pretty girls,
- 13:50Speaker 1: and that's the only thing to balance it out. And
- 13:52Speaker 1: you'd be like, oh, Michelle Trachtenberg's so cute. Other than that, like, yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 1: you don't have anything fun on that angle. But if
- 13:59Speaker 1: you like gore, it sticks kind of similar to the
- 14:03Speaker 1: other one, but adds several other layers of weirdness to
- 14:08Speaker 1: it and does what every movie at that time and
- 14:11Speaker 1: before was doing. Let's do a backstory that we didn't
- 14:16Speaker 1: ask for. So all the, nor have you watched the last,
- 14:20Speaker 1: the first one. all the weird mysteriousness that Billy is,
- 14:25Speaker 1: don't worry. It's all totally freaking explained in ways that
- 14:30Speaker 1: you never wanted. So, I mean, that's why it's a
- 14:34Speaker 1: lesser movie in my mind. But at the same time,
- 14:36Speaker 1: it's definitely like they don't tone down the weirdness. It
- 14:41Speaker 1: is weird and creepy in a different way because this
- 14:46Speaker 1: creepy backstory.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Is it at least the same basic story but yeah.
- 14:49Speaker 1: It does otherwise stick to and and maybe more so
- 14:53Speaker 1: i felt like this time we really get a almost
- 14:56Speaker 1: like a haunted house movie they're like trapped in the
- 14:58Speaker 1: sorority house most of this time because there's a snowstorm
- 15:02Speaker 1: going on and the power gets cut of like every
- 15:05Speaker 1: freaking horror movie and so like a lot of the
- 15:07Speaker 1: time is just these girls hanging around a big giant
- 15:10Speaker 1: ass house with no lights on you know so i'm
- 15:12Speaker 1: like it works on a creepy level just from that
- 15:15Speaker 1: angle maybe even you know more i feel like they
- 15:18Speaker 1: go out and do more stuff in that first one
- 15:21Speaker 1: but yeah this one i feel like the bulk of
- 15:23Speaker 1: the movie is just them trapped in a house with
- 15:25Speaker 1: creepy things going on so.
- 15:27Speaker 8: Oh i'm intrigued.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Yeah i had fun with it don't expect it to
- 15:31Speaker 1: be great but fun if you.
- 15:35Speaker 3: I'll take fun over last movie well yeah but i'll
- 15:39Speaker 3: take fun if i can't have great yeah so a
- 15:42Speaker 3: great movie but i had fun with it okay.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It's a fun horror movie If you don't mind grossness.
- 15:48Speaker 3: I really don't.
- 15:48Speaker 8: I'm kind of looking for gross. I don't know.
- 15:50Speaker 19: I'm bored.
- 15:51Speaker 8: I don't have much else to do.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Well, then there you go.
- 15:55Speaker 8: I did watch one the other night that I'm still
- 15:59Speaker 8: confused about, and it was called Red Christmas, and I
- 16:02Speaker 8: don't want to give it away, but it was a
- 16:04Speaker 8: slasher movie that had a lot to do with the
- 16:06Speaker 8: botched abortion.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Fun. I'd seen that on a list recently when I
- 16:12Speaker 1: was doing stuff for the Black Christmas. I'd seen that
- 16:15Speaker 1: come up as a Christmas horror type thing. And then
- 16:19Speaker 1: after you mentioned it, I went and watched the trailer.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And just based on the trailer, I'm like, what the
- 16:26Speaker 1: hell is this movie?
- 16:30Speaker 8: I don't know if it was trying to do a
- 16:32Speaker 8: pro-abortion thing or an anti-abortion thing. I have no idea
- 16:36Speaker 8: what the message was.
- 16:38Speaker 1: They have a message.
- 16:38Speaker 8: I didn't know if it was trying to be funny and, like,
- 16:40Speaker 8: tongue-in-cheek or if it was trying to be serious. Like,
- 16:43Speaker 8: I was just so confused.
- 16:45Speaker 1: We don't know what the message is, but they totally
- 16:47Speaker 1: have one.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Right.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I guess.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Man.
- 16:52Speaker 1: The only upside was that Dee Wallace, I talked to
- 16:55Speaker 1: her one time. She was pretty cool. Yeah, she did.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Was kind of the only recognizable person that I saw
- 17:01Speaker 1: in there. Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 8: I don't know how it got made, but.
- 17:07Speaker 8: Someone made that.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Somebody decided to make that. For some reason. There's some
- 17:13Speaker 1: recommendations for your post-Christmas, why the hell am I watching
- 17:16Speaker 1: this now, life. If you're in quarantine and on lockdown
- 17:22Speaker 1: and can't get any new stuff, you're in a level
- 17:25Speaker 1: of hell where you have to watch Christmas movies for
- 17:26Speaker 1: the rest of the year, then now you've got two
- 17:29Speaker 1: to go seek out.
- 17:30Speaker 8: You're welcome.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:35Speaker 1: We're here for music so do you have any song
- 17:39Speaker 1: choices to pass along Nora before you return to your quarantine.
- 17:44Speaker 8: Um The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel.
- 17:51Speaker 1: We've played a lot of that Simon and Garfunkel on
- 17:54Speaker 1: this show we're bypassing that this time yeah no.
- 17:59Speaker 8: I can't think of any but I'm gonna hop off
- 18:01Speaker 8: so I can go stare out my window you all have.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Fun well thank you for joining us via satellite stay
- 18:13Speaker 1: safe try not to expose any people or more importantly
- 18:16Speaker 1: cats and um yeah enjoy the lockdown hopefully we will
- 18:21Speaker 1: be back in the same room talking horror movies in
- 18:24Speaker 1: the near.
- 18:24Speaker 8: Future yes I hope so Nora Inman signing off hang
- 18:29Speaker 8: in there Nora I'm saluting you can't see it but
- 18:32Speaker 8: uh Bye, guys.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Bye.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I keep hearing the term be exposed to, and
- 18:44Speaker 3: stupid me, I keep thinking like a flasher exposing themselves
- 18:48Speaker 3: to someone.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I see how your brain works. I can't say I'm surprised.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Well, no, you shouldn't be.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Explains the trench coat. But anyway.
- 19:00Speaker 21: Hi, this is Rick from Southern Culture on the Skids,
- 19:02Speaker 21: and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 19:04Speaker 7: Oh, I have recently rediscovered David Spade.
- 19:28Speaker 3: And on purpose it was on accident but i have
- 19:32Speaker 3: gone and looked up a bunch of his earlier work
- 19:35Speaker 3: and the guy i have to give him credit now
- 19:39Speaker 3: i feel i used to feel like he was just
- 19:41Speaker 3: annoying and stupid i'm.
- 19:43Speaker 22: Still kind of on that but i starting to think
- 19:46Speaker 22: he might actually be a comedic genius but there was
- 19:50Speaker 22: a sketch on saturday night live where he played a
- 19:53Speaker 22: video store clerk.
- 19:54Speaker 1: See that's the thing when i when i go back
- 19:56Speaker 1: that far and see him not like in those short
- 20:00Speaker 1: snippets like when he used to do like his little
- 20:02Speaker 1: hollywood minute thing like That was kind of clever and
- 20:05Speaker 1: like really was sort of poking fun at the industry
- 20:08Speaker 1: that kind of didn't want him anyway. Right. So that
- 20:11Speaker 1: was like almost his best right there.
- 20:15Speaker 3: But he plays this video store clerk and I remember
- 20:18Speaker 3: it being, you know, people are coming in. Oh, do
- 20:21Speaker 3: you have this movie? And he's giving them all this information.
- 20:24Speaker 3: I'm like, this is just like the days when I
- 20:27Speaker 3: used to hang out with my friends who actually worked
- 20:29Speaker 3: at video stores.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I might have been there for some of it.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Well, as a tie-in, in the second remake of Black Christmas,
- 20:41Speaker 1: the boyfriend, because there's kind of one boyfriend in every
- 20:44Speaker 1: version of this.
- 20:45Speaker 17: Oh, sure.
- 20:46Speaker 1: The one boyfriend who shows up in this middle Black
- 20:49Speaker 1: Christmas is the guy from that TV show with David Spade.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Because I sat there going, I know that guy, right?
- 20:56Speaker 3: Just shoot me?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Uh no actually that was the much better one that
- 21:00Speaker 1: more recent the rules.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Of engagement engagement which was like with patrick warburton it's the.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Tick and david spade and.
- 21:07Speaker 3: That other and the mom from grounded for life.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yeah i was like every one of them was just
- 21:11Speaker 1: like it's another one of those shows that's just we
- 21:13Speaker 1: take five people that you already know and jam them
- 21:16Speaker 1: in this new scenario and there you go.
- 21:18Speaker 3: That was not there was nothing original about that show
- 21:21Speaker 3: that idea had both Oh, here's a couple who's been
- 21:24Speaker 3: married forever. Here's a new couple. And here's the single,
- 21:27Speaker 3: lonely guy who's never going to settle down. Yeah, that
- 21:30Speaker 3: idea's been done to death. But that show had some
- 21:33Speaker 3: clever moments.
- 21:33Speaker 1: It wasn't bad. That's the thing. I just sort of
- 21:36Speaker 1: shrugged it off when I saw it. I was like, oh, God,
- 21:38Speaker 1: who let David Spade in the show? And then I
- 21:40Speaker 1: was like, I do like Patrick. And there were times
- 21:43Speaker 1: when I watched it and I was just like, this
- 21:45Speaker 1: is actually not as bad as I expected. So it
- 21:49Speaker 1: is the Hudson boy. Oliver Hudson is also the boyfriend
- 21:54Speaker 1: in that movie.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 21:56Speaker 1: What a weird tie-in. Little did I know we were
- 21:59Speaker 1: going to talk about David Spade.
- 22:01Speaker 2: All right.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Music. Oh, yes. You know, that rock star David Spade
- 22:06Speaker 1: led us right to this. Or just being lonely and sick. Anyway,
- 22:13Speaker 1: that's what led us. Again, trying to decide what sort
- 22:18Speaker 1: of music episode to do in the near future.
- 22:20Speaker 19: Anyway.
- 22:21Speaker 1: And then Nora on quarantine. I was like, well, that's
- 22:24Speaker 1: what we need to do. We need to find some
- 22:26Speaker 1: sort of weird connection and string together a nice little
- 22:31Speaker 1: playlist of quarantine songs. So I thought the best way
- 22:36Speaker 1: to start it off, most of it, I don't know.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I was trying to delve into more of the infected
- 22:42Speaker 1: with a virus songs, but that was not overall a
- 22:45Speaker 1: good search.
- 22:46Speaker 12: But.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I mean, before I even searched for it, I was like, well,
- 22:50Speaker 1: obviously this one's what we're kicking it off with. And
- 22:53Speaker 1: then the more I looked into it, I was like,
- 22:55Speaker 1: maybe that's the only one. Or certainly the only one
- 22:58Speaker 1: we would want to hear. But the first thing that
- 23:01Speaker 1: came to mind was obviously we need to kick things
- 23:04Speaker 1: off for the way that the world got to where
- 23:06Speaker 1: it is right now with Down with the Sickness. But
- 23:11Speaker 1: I was like, do we want the obnoxious wannabe new
- 23:15Speaker 1: metal version?
- 23:15Speaker 3: No, we do not.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Hell no. If we're going to go for a movie tie-in,
- 23:19Speaker 1: my favorite use of it is in the Dawn of
- 23:22Speaker 1: the Dead remake, where we get the Richard Cheese version.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Which is way more fun.
- 23:30Speaker 3: And so fitting in that scene.
- 23:33Speaker 1: And life, really. I mean, if there's anything sickness and cheesiness,
- 23:38Speaker 1: that's a world around us right now.
- 23:43Speaker 23: Do you feel that?
- 23:47Speaker 4: Oh, shit.
- 23:58Speaker 23: Get up, come on, get down with the sickness. Get up,
- 24:03Speaker 23: come on, get down with the sickness. Get up, come on,
- 24:08Speaker 23: get down with the sickness. Open up your hate and
- 24:11Speaker 23: let it flow into me. Get up, come on, get
- 24:16Speaker 23: down with the sickness. You mother, get up, come on,
- 24:20Speaker 23: get down with the sickness. You fucker, get up, come on,
- 24:24Speaker 23: get down with the sickness. Madness is the gift that
- 24:28Speaker 23: has been given to me. I can see inside you
- 24:32Speaker 23: the sickness is rising. It seems that all that was
- 24:37Speaker 23: good has died. Oh no, the world is a scary place.
- 24:43Speaker 23: Now that you've woken up the demon in me. Bobby,
- 24:51Speaker 23: will you give it to me?
- 24:54Speaker 17: Oh, wow.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Here it comes.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Get ready to die.
- 25:27Speaker 16: Get ready to die.
- 25:40Speaker 1: And the more I thought about it, there was also
- 25:42Speaker 1: a weird tie-in because usually every movie I go and
- 25:44Speaker 1: see is just me sitting there. But I was like, actually,
- 25:48Speaker 1: if I remember, I saw Dawn of the Dead in
- 25:50Speaker 1: the theater and you were there. I was there.
- 25:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 1: So there you go. We were connected with this song
- 25:57Speaker 1: years ago. Yes. Well before we started this nonsense.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yeah, actually.
- 26:03Speaker 1: And I really, especially as time's gone on, like I
- 26:06Speaker 1: think about that. movie way more than i feel like
- 26:09Speaker 1: you should for a remake of a weird zombie movie
- 26:14Speaker 1: i don't know there's so much about it that.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Holds up yeah i i feel like it held up
- 26:18Speaker 3: pretty well for a remake.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Yeah and like again almost operates on its own sure
- 26:23Speaker 1: merit like it does its own thing it just it's
- 26:26Speaker 1: what you should do in a remake as far as
- 26:28Speaker 1: i'm concerned it takes the basic premise but then doesn't
- 26:31Speaker 1: try to shot for shot, line for line, do a remake.
- 26:35Speaker 1: It's just like, okay, here's the thing. Zombies in a mall.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Good enough. Go. And then everything from that point on
- 26:41Speaker 1: is kind of different and kind of has different characters
- 26:44Speaker 1: and kind of does its own thing. So that's the
- 26:47Speaker 1: way all remakes should do.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I've read so much about the remake versus the original
- 26:53Speaker 3: of that movie and there's people talking about how, well,
- 26:56Speaker 3: the remake doesn't have The social commentary on consumerism. Who cares?
- 27:04Speaker 3: It's a scary movie that takes place in a real
- 27:08Speaker 3: world setting, sort of.
- 27:10Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 27:10Speaker 3: And, you know, makes you think, well, what would I
- 27:13Speaker 3: do if I was trapped in a mall for however
- 27:15Speaker 3: long those people are there?
- 27:16Speaker 24: Yep.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I think it's pretty solid.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:19Speaker 1: And again, I think it questions different things because you
- 27:23Speaker 1: bring a lot more people into this one. I mean,
- 27:25Speaker 1: with ours, we're pretty much three people. four kind of
- 27:29Speaker 1: at the beginning, but for the bulk of the movie,
- 27:30Speaker 1: you've got three people that are on our side in
- 27:33Speaker 1: our little group, and that's all you kind of deal
- 27:35Speaker 1: with is the dynamic. That one, because we end up
- 27:38Speaker 1: bringing so many other people in, you do get more
- 27:40Speaker 1: of like a, you get that questioning of, okay, should
- 27:43Speaker 1: we help other people? Should we let other people in?
- 27:47Speaker 1: Once they start like being questionable, do you quarantine them?
- 27:51Speaker 1: Tie in. Do you go kill them all? Like it really,
- 27:56Speaker 1: it asks those kinds of questions that we don't really
- 27:58Speaker 1: get much of in that first one. So there's, I
- 28:00Speaker 1: think different things are addressed because we were sort of
- 28:04Speaker 1: at a different time.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 1: So yeah, I like that one, the song and the movie.
- 28:10Speaker 3: So mine was actually from the 2011 movie, the Muppets.
- 28:15Speaker 3: The song is me party. Sung by Amy Adams and
- 28:24Speaker 3: Miss Piggy. All right. And it's more of a positive,
- 28:29Speaker 3: here's what I'm going to do while I'm stuck by
- 28:31Speaker 3: myself sort of song. And I feel like it kind
- 28:35Speaker 3: of ends on a possibly double entendre because I believe
- 28:40Speaker 3: the last line of the song is, what happens at
- 28:43Speaker 3: a me party stays at a me party.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Interesting. I might. Throw that line out there quite often
- 28:51Speaker 1: from this point on. You guys don't need to know
- 28:54Speaker 1: what I'm doing when I'm here by myself.
- 28:56Speaker 3: I don't want to know.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Nobody does. I can guarantee that.
- 28:59Speaker 3: But I hope it's awesome.
- 29:01Speaker 1: It's productive. I'm being productive and putting together this wonderful
- 29:07Speaker 1: show you're listening to. That's all. That's all.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I look around and once again I'm on my own.
- 29:17Speaker 2: My man ain't here.
- 29:18Speaker 9: He's gone and done me wrong. No one's gonna stop
- 29:22Speaker 9: this girl from having fun.
- 29:24Speaker 1: I throw my hands up high and have a party
- 29:27Speaker 1: for one.
- 29:27Speaker 12: I'm having a me party.
- 29:29Speaker 15: A party by myself.
- 29:32Speaker 16: A me party.
- 29:33Speaker 3: I don't need nobody else.
- 29:35Speaker 8: I'm having a me party.
- 29:36Speaker 16: I'm the person left.
- 29:38Speaker 25: To show there's no one else.
- 29:40Speaker 3: At this party that I don't already know.
- 29:42Speaker 6: I'm not gonna sit around by myself.
- 29:45Speaker 1: And wait for you.
- 29:46Speaker 16: Haven't you heard?
- 29:48Speaker 21: One is the new two.
- 29:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna make a scene. I'm gonna make a fuss.
- 29:54Speaker 6: Tonight I'm gonna celebrate with just the one of us.
- 29:57Speaker 6: I'm having a big party.
- 29:59Speaker 16: I don't need no invitation.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I won't lie, there are times when I wish I
- 30:15Speaker 2: was with you.
- 30:16Speaker 3: There are days when all this girl can see is
- 30:18Speaker 3: a world that's made for two.
- 30:20Speaker 26: At times like this, I feel all alone and it's
- 30:22Speaker 26: like nobody cares.
- 30:24Speaker 15: But I only have to call my name and darling,
- 30:26Speaker 15: I'll be there.
- 30:35Speaker 4: I can't say I'm shocked by the Muppet choice.
- 30:43Speaker 5: Well, no, but.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Because I know you.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:07Speaker 1: But that is an interesting way to go. So the
- 31:09Speaker 1: more I, yeah, like this was just sort of a
- 31:10Speaker 1: mixture of different reasons as I went through. I was
- 31:15Speaker 1: going for a lot of different variations. We already had
- 31:18Speaker 1: the infection one and got that out of the way.
- 31:20Speaker 1: So next up is the boredom one. And like, again,
- 31:25Speaker 1: also oddly upbeat for a song about having nothing to do.
- 31:29Speaker 1: This is Flowers on the Wall from the Statler Brothers.
- 31:37Speaker 14: I keep hearing your concerns about my happiness But.
- 31:42Speaker 11: All I thought you'd given me is conscience I guess
- 31:46Speaker 11: If I were walking in your shoes I wouldn't worry
- 31:50Speaker 11: none Are you no friends.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Or worried about me?
- 31:53Speaker 11: I'm having lots of fun.
- 31:55Speaker 7: Counting flowers on the wall That don't bother me at
- 32:00Speaker 7: all Playing solitaire till dawn with the deck of 51
- 32:08Speaker 7: Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo Now don't tell me I've.
- 32:15Speaker 14: Nothing to do Last night I dressed in tails, pretended
- 32:20Speaker 14: I was on the tank As long as I can dream,
- 32:24Speaker 14: it's hard to slow the swinger down So please don't
- 32:28Speaker 14: give a thought to me, I'm really doing fine. You
- 32:32Speaker 14: can always.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Find me here and haven't quite a time.
- 32:36Speaker 7: Counting flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all.
- 32:43Speaker 7: Playing solitaire till dawn with the deck of 51. Smoking
- 32:49Speaker 7: cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo. Now don't tell me I've
- 32:56Speaker 7: nothing to do.
- 32:58Speaker 1: It's good to see you. I must go.
- 33:01Speaker 20: I know I.
- 33:02Speaker 17: Look up front.
- 33:04Speaker 14: Anyway, my eyes are not accustomed to this light.
- 33:08Speaker 8: And my shoes are.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Not accustomed to this hard concrete. So I must go back.
- 33:14Speaker 14: To my room and make my day complete.
- 33:17Speaker 7: Counting flowers on the wall that don't bother me at all.
- 33:24Speaker 7: Playing solitaire till dawn with the deck of 51. Smoking
- 33:30Speaker 7: cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Now don't tell me.
- 33:37Speaker 9: I've nothing to do.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Don't tell me.
- 33:42Speaker 21: I've nothing to do.
- 33:51Speaker 1: See, right now, she was pretending like she was going
- 33:53Speaker 1: to go do laundry or something. But right now, Nora
- 33:57Speaker 1: is smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Captain Kangaroo, counting flowers on the lawn.
- 34:03Speaker 1: So yeah, I thought that one is... exactly what people are,
- 34:07Speaker 1: you know, dealing with this entire year. Even if you're
- 34:11Speaker 1: not a hundred percent quarantined for the most part, the
- 34:14Speaker 1: people just like so many people don't go to work now.
- 34:18Speaker 1: They're all working from home. You minimally go out when
- 34:22Speaker 1: you have to get groceries, but there's a lot of
- 34:23Speaker 1: places that aren't even open anymore. So it's like most
- 34:27Speaker 1: of your time is probably stuck in your house, looking
- 34:29Speaker 1: at your stupid family and you're just, Ready to kill people.
- 34:34Speaker 1: So I was like, you know, for a song that
- 34:36Speaker 1: addresses that sort of thing, and a solo version of
- 34:40Speaker 1: it so it would seem in this song, it does
- 34:41Speaker 1: it with a pretty fun, upbeat mood. You gotta respect
- 34:46Speaker 1: that in a song about probably losing your mind.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Which movie are you pulling this one from?
- 34:52Speaker 1: I mean, my go-to obviously is Pulp Fiction. Sure. I
- 34:56Speaker 1: think I looked and it's featured in other stuff, but
- 34:59Speaker 1: that was my go-to. Which also leads me to I'm
- 35:03Speaker 1: not sure if you're aware of this. I might be
- 35:05Speaker 1: the only one dorky enough to decide. I can't be.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I mean, the internet's full of dorks. But it was
- 35:11Speaker 1: because at the time, I watched both pretty regularly. Do
- 35:17Speaker 1: you know of the Pulp Fiction Die Hard with a
- 35:19Speaker 1: Vengeance connection?
- 35:21Speaker 3: No, I do not. But I am eager to hear it.
- 35:24Speaker 1: It's very minimal, but I'm the dork going, now wait
- 35:27Speaker 1: a minute. So... Flowers on the Wall, featured very prominently
- 35:34Speaker 1: in Pulp Fiction. And that, you know, points to Tarantino.
- 35:40Speaker 1: He does have good music taste, as much as he
- 35:43Speaker 1: seems kind of annoying to be around as a person.
- 35:45Speaker 1: He is a hell of a director, and he has
- 35:46Speaker 1: great music taste. So he picked this kind of forgotten
- 35:50Speaker 1: song at the time, and, like, that was the reason
- 35:53Speaker 1: I knew it, because I just watched it in Pulp Fiction.
- 35:55Speaker 1: So a year later, Die Hard with a Vengeance comes out. Right.
- 36:00Speaker 5: And.
- 36:01Speaker 1: In the middle, like in the very beginning, it's like
- 36:04Speaker 1: you pull, you know, the stuff's blowing up. It's like, ah,
- 36:06Speaker 1: we got to get McLean in here because he's tied
- 36:08Speaker 1: to this nonsense as per usual. And like, he's like
- 36:11Speaker 1: hung over because he's been kicked off the floors. He's like,
- 36:15Speaker 1: they took, they put him on leave of some sort
- 36:18Speaker 1: because he's a troublemaker. And he comes in with his
- 36:21Speaker 1: hangover and he's sitting there with a headache like the
- 36:23Speaker 1: entire movie. And one of the things, like, I think
- 36:26Speaker 1: the captain's talking to him and he's just like talking
- 36:28Speaker 1: about how he's been sitting at home. And he says,
- 36:32Speaker 1: smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo. And I was like,
- 36:36Speaker 1: at the time, the first time I was like, okay,
- 36:38Speaker 1: I know where that line's from. But I was like, well,
- 36:41Speaker 1: it's got to be a weird ad lib by Bruce Willis.
- 36:44Speaker 1: And I was like, well, maybe he didn't even know
- 36:46Speaker 1: they worked it in. And I went, no, wait, the
- 36:48Speaker 1: reason we hear that song in Pulp Fiction is it's
- 36:50Speaker 1: on the car radio. when he's driving around right before
- 36:54Speaker 1: he sees Marcellus, he's singing along to the song in
- 36:58Speaker 1: the car. So I'm like, he knows that song. It
- 37:01Speaker 1: was not a background song. It was in the context
- 37:04Speaker 1: of the movie. That song is on the radio. He's
- 37:07Speaker 1: singing along to it and had to have been like,
- 37:11Speaker 1: if not at that time, a few months later, shooting
- 37:13Speaker 1: scenes in Die Hard with a Vengeance and is like,
- 37:16Speaker 1: I'm going to work in a line from that song
- 37:18Speaker 1: I was singing along to.
- 37:21Speaker 3: That's it.
- 37:21Speaker 1: That's really all. I'm just like, that's weird that there's
- 37:24Speaker 1: a connection between those pretty otherwise disconnected movies. Like Bruce
- 37:29Speaker 1: Willis is your only tie in there. But obviously, Bruce
- 37:33Speaker 1: liked the Statler Brothers enough to work it into two
- 37:35Speaker 1: of his movies.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Well, how could you not?
- 37:38Speaker 1: I'm sure he's responsible for that second one. Quentin, I'm sure,
- 37:41Speaker 1: picked it the first time around. But he's responsible for
- 37:43Speaker 1: adding that line in. I can only imagine. I'm basing
- 37:47Speaker 1: that on nothing other than Bruce kind of does what
- 37:50Speaker 1: he wants anyway.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Seems about right. So as we go into what could be,
- 37:58Speaker 1: I mean, as you get into the isolation and the
- 38:02Speaker 1: loneliness that will take a good portion of this playlist,
- 38:07Speaker 1: I also was trying to find ways to make them
- 38:10Speaker 1: more fun and find different avenues that they may have
- 38:14Speaker 1: turned up in. So I came to the song Me
- 38:18Speaker 1: and My Shadow, which is, again, to the point of
- 38:22Speaker 1: losing your mind when this is your best friend.
- 38:26Speaker 14: Right.
- 38:26Speaker 1: When you've been alone so long that your partner for
- 38:30Speaker 1: the day is your shadow, you're starting to lose it.
- 38:34Speaker 3: I've been lonely before, but never so lonely that my
- 38:37Speaker 3: shadow has been my friend.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Or an enemy. I just talk to my dog all day,
- 38:41Speaker 1: so this person obviously needs to get a dog. But, yeah,
- 38:45Speaker 1: I was like, all right, this is already kind of depressing.
- 38:48Speaker 1: And then, like, the main go-to that kept coming up
- 38:50Speaker 1: when I looked, I was like, all right, who all
- 38:52Speaker 1: has done this song? They just went right for the
- 38:54Speaker 1: Judy Garland version. And I was like, talk about somebody
- 38:57Speaker 1: who knows about depression.
- 38:59Speaker 12: Jeez.
- 39:00Speaker 1: But really what's weird is, like, even one of the
- 39:02Speaker 1: documentaries about her is named Me and My Shadows of
- 39:06Speaker 1: her many personalities or dealings with life.
- 39:10Speaker 17: I don't know.
- 39:10Speaker 1: She had a lot of issues.
- 39:12Speaker 19: But.
- 39:13Speaker 1: I don't think she even performed it in a movie ever.
- 39:16Speaker 1: So I'm like, well, we didn't really want to go
- 39:17Speaker 1: down that dark road anyway. So I started thinking of where.
- 39:21Speaker 3: But didn't she perform it at some point?
- 39:24Speaker 1: I mean, like on albums. She has tons of versions
- 39:28Speaker 1: of it over the years. And I think even on...
- 39:30Speaker 1: TV shows and stuff.
- 39:31Speaker 3: But I don't think it was associated with her.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Yeah. It's definitely one of her like go-to songs in
- 39:37Speaker 1: her career, but I don't think it was a movie song.
- 39:40Speaker 1: I could be wrong.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 39:42Speaker 1: We didn't want to go down that road anyway.
- 39:43Speaker 3: It's dark. No, it's very dark.
- 39:45Speaker 1: I was trying to find a much more fun usage
- 39:47Speaker 1: of it, and then I got to Time Bandits.
- 39:50Speaker 27: Oh, yes.
- 39:51Speaker 3: I was hoping you would bring that up.
- 39:53Speaker 1: I assumed. I don't think we've discussed it before, but
- 39:56Speaker 1: I thought if anybody would be on board for Time Bandits.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Oh, I love Time Bandits.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Man.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I have such a love-hate relationship with, well, feelings towards
- 40:08Speaker 3: Terry Gilliam movies.
- 40:09Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 40:10Speaker 3: But I freaking love Time Bandits from start to finish.
- 40:13Speaker 1: That's my go-to. And it's funny that that's, I'm assuming,
- 40:16Speaker 1: the first one I ever saw of Terry Gilliam.
- 40:19Speaker 3: I'm sure it was for me as well.
- 40:21Speaker 1: And I still think it's genius. And at its core,
- 40:26Speaker 1: one of the most Terry Gilliam movies ever. Oh, yeah.
- 40:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Granted, there's a lot of Monty Python in there. Because
- 40:32Speaker 1: I also didn't realize who the writers were. And I'm like, oh, well,
- 40:35Speaker 1: that makes sense. I mean, he was part of the team.
- 40:37Speaker 6: Right.
- 40:38Speaker 1: But this is definitely him indulging in his weird Terry
- 40:41Speaker 1: Gillian-isms as you get into this movie. I mean, so
- 40:47Speaker 1: much about it.
- 40:48Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure the whole cast was in there at
- 40:50Speaker 3: some point.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty much.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Except maybe Graham Chapman. Although he might be.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 3: I don't know. I'd be happy to watch it again, actually.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. I was thinking that. I was like,
- 40:59Speaker 1: do I own a copy? Because I need to. Because
- 41:02Speaker 1: I watched it so much as a kid, which kind
- 41:04Speaker 1: of explains a.
- 41:05Speaker 26: Lot, really.
- 41:06Speaker 1: But yeah, as you get into that song, we get
- 41:10Speaker 1: them performing it to Napoleon, to a slightly younger, I
- 41:16Speaker 1: don't know if he was ever really young, but a
- 41:18Speaker 1: slightly younger Ian Holm playing Napoleon.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Right.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And yeah, mostly lead vocals by David Rappaport.
- 41:36Speaker 4: Like you love that bit of your shadow.
- 41:40Speaker 19: You know that you know me.
- 41:43Speaker 28: This is me.
- 41:45Speaker 1: And my shadow.
- 41:45Speaker 20: Swallowing down the air.
- 41:49Speaker 10: I love you, I love you, I love you, I
- 41:53Speaker 10: love you.
- 41:56Speaker 4: This is me. And my shadow.
- 42:05Speaker 12: Look, leave!
- 42:07Speaker 1: Let go!
- 42:09Speaker 8: We gave right!
- 42:11Speaker 4: And when it's twelve o'clock.
- 42:16Speaker 10: We climb the stairs We never knock The more.
- 42:29Speaker 20: I thought about it, I was like, why did that
- 42:45Speaker 20: guy not become like a leading man superstar?
- 42:48Speaker 1: Like he is, he is so good in that movie.
- 42:50Speaker 1: And like, so like you can just, he takes control
- 42:54Speaker 1: of that movie because our other leads a kid and
- 42:56Speaker 1: he don't know what's going on. So like, he is
- 42:58Speaker 1: so the center of that movie. And like, I feel
- 43:02Speaker 1: like if it were now, we would have found a
- 43:05Speaker 1: way to make him more of a movie star. I
- 43:07Speaker 1: think it was just at the time they didn't know
- 43:08Speaker 1: what to do with a leading man, little person.
- 43:11Speaker 3: I feel like trying to think of a, I'm not,
- 43:15Speaker 3: not trying to make a joke. I'm trying to think
- 43:17Speaker 3: of a good way to say this, but like, Him
- 43:21Speaker 3: and Peter Dinklage are probably the... If I had to
- 43:26Speaker 3: pick who would be good leading men that happen to
- 43:31Speaker 3: be little people, those would be my top two choices
- 43:34Speaker 3: right there.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I mean, that's my thought now. It's like every point
- 43:37Speaker 1: before this, I think that got in the way. And
- 43:40Speaker 1: they're always, you know, since we've had film at least,
- 43:42Speaker 1: but even Laudville, I'm sure you had plenty of little
- 43:45Speaker 1: people that were... entertaining that way but yeah film it
- 43:49Speaker 1: was like it always became you were either again you
- 43:53Speaker 1: go to your Wizard of Oz usage or you know
- 43:56Speaker 1: at best you know somebody like Billy Barty who was
- 43:59Speaker 1: just constantly thrown in there but always a side character
- 44:03Speaker 1: you know.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Billy Barty though is genuinely funny.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Oh and like a good actor like yeah you could
- 44:08Speaker 1: have done more with him than than was and I
- 44:11Speaker 1: think that's the thing there was always that like stopping
- 44:13Speaker 1: point early on. I think that was the difference now
- 44:17Speaker 1: is somebody like Peter Dinklage came along and that didn't
- 44:20Speaker 1: stop him. Like he is lead in movies now. He
- 44:23Speaker 1: is one of the bigger recognizable actors out there now.
- 44:26Speaker 1: And yeah, that had nothing, yeah, that had nothing to
- 44:29Speaker 1: do with it. Like he just was a really good
- 44:32Speaker 1: actor and people accepted that. And that was the first
- 44:35Speaker 1: thing they went to look for. We need a good
- 44:36Speaker 1: guy in this role. Hey, let's get Peter Dinklage. So
- 44:40Speaker 1: I think that's, yeah, I think that's one of the few,
- 44:43Speaker 1: good things that have happened in life. It's not become the...
- 44:47Speaker 1: I'm sure it's still a huge hurdle, but it's not
- 44:51Speaker 1: 100% going to ruin your career at this point. But yeah,
- 44:54Speaker 1: that's the more I thought about it. I was like,
- 44:56Speaker 1: David Rappaport, that's a guy that should have gotten... He
- 45:00Speaker 1: worked consistently. I looked and I was like.
- 45:02Speaker 3: I've seen him in a ton of things.
- 45:03Speaker 1: He's been in a good amount of stuff.
- 45:04Speaker 3: He's always a supporting character.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I always forget he's in The Young Ones. I'm like,
- 45:08Speaker 1: look at that guy. I know him. Oh, yes.
- 45:10Speaker 17: Yes.
- 45:11Speaker 3: He plays a little demon.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Orgo or Fatumsh. Fatumsh. But yeah, so.
- 45:21Speaker 3: Oh man, that was a good show too.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Background vocals, you know, when you can bring Kenny Baker
- 45:26Speaker 1: in to do, to dance around with you and Jack
- 45:29Speaker 1: Purvis and like all these guys, like it's just, what
- 45:33Speaker 1: a great lineup.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I love that movie.
- 45:36Speaker 3: I don't think. Everything about that movie just lines up
- 45:44Speaker 3: so perfectly. It's just such a well-made... Yeah. From the
- 45:49Speaker 3: story to the cast. The ending is odd.
- 45:54Speaker 1: But in a way, perfect for what it is. Yeah.
- 45:58Speaker 1: It just.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:59Speaker 1: It is.
- 46:00Speaker 3: Just a lot of fun. Full of great cameos.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Yeah. More than you saw coming. Yeah. I'm surprised the
- 46:08Speaker 1: people that turn up in there. But yeah. It's amazing.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I love that movie.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:14Speaker 1: So that's how we got to that one. I think
- 46:17Speaker 1: it's in Hold That Ghost, truthfully, but.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Me and my shadow.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I figured this was a much more fun way to go.
- 46:22Speaker 1: I feel like that would have been a very traditional.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Haven't Costello was in Hold My Ghost?
- 46:27Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 46:28Speaker 3: Oh, that's what that was.
- 46:29Speaker 1: But I think it was written by other people, so
- 46:32Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, I think it was just a performance
- 46:34Speaker 1: mixed in there.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Well, that was back when they would take just whatever song.
- 46:39Speaker 1: They were just kind of filling. Like, we got to
- 46:40Speaker 1: get to a feature length so we can put this
- 46:43Speaker 1: in a theater somewhere.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, one I was kind of thinking about was
- 46:50Speaker 3: the Simple Minds Don't You Forget About Me from Breakfast Club.
- 46:56Speaker 3: Because I'm kind of worried that with all this separation,
- 46:59Speaker 3: my friends will forget me. And I might even forget
- 47:03Speaker 3: some of them. And you know who you are.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of that that's even just
- 47:11Speaker 1: trying to piece this together over this past year. It
- 47:14Speaker 1: is funny how many people like there were some that
- 47:17Speaker 1: just were weirded out and didn't want to do stuff now.
- 47:21Speaker 1: And then there were some that actually had legitimate health
- 47:24Speaker 1: reasons to not go out into the world and be
- 47:26Speaker 1: exposed to more people like me. So I'm like, I understood,
- 47:29Speaker 1: and I tried not to worry about it and just,
- 47:32Speaker 1: you know, find a couple of suckers like you and
- 47:34Speaker 1: Nora to show up every week and actually do stuff. But, yeah,
- 47:38Speaker 1: it is interesting. Like, there were several people I was thinking.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, we haven't done anything. Well, one
- 47:45Speaker 1: recently I remedied. I was like, we haven't even recorded
- 47:48Speaker 1: this entire year. And then there were several other people
- 47:50Speaker 1: that just were semi-regular that I'm like, yep, haven't seen
- 47:53Speaker 1: them in a long time.
- 47:54Speaker 29: Yeah.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I do wonder, is everyone going to forget everyone else?
- 48:17Speaker 13: Won't you come see about me?
- 48:20Speaker 4: I'll be alone.
- 48:23Speaker 13: Dancing, you know it, baby Tell me your troubles and
- 48:28Speaker 13: doubts Giving me everything inside and out and Love's strange,
- 48:35Speaker 13: surreal in the dark Think of the tender things.
- 48:40Speaker 25: That we were working on Slow change may pull us
- 48:45Speaker 25: apart When the light gets into your heart, baby Don't
- 48:52Speaker 25: you forget about me.
- 48:57Speaker 4: Don't, don't, don't, don't Don't you.
- 49:03Speaker 17: Forget about me.
- 49:08Speaker 21: Will you stand above me?
- 49:10Speaker 13: Look my way, you'll.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Never love me.
- 49:13Speaker 21: Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling.
- 49:17Speaker 27: Down, down, down.
- 49:25Speaker 8: Will you recognize me?
- 49:27Speaker 13: Call my name.
- 49:28Speaker 26: Or walk on by Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling Down, down, down.
- 49:34Speaker 10: Down Hey, hey, hey.
- 49:39Speaker 17: Hey.
- 50:00Speaker 13: Don't you try and pretend It's my feeling we'll win
- 50:07Speaker 13: in the end I won't harm you or touch your
- 50:11Speaker 13: defenses Vanity, insecurity, ah.
- 50:18Speaker 9: Don't you forget about me I'll be alone Dancing in
- 50:25Speaker 9: the red baby Going to take.
- 50:28Speaker 25: You apart I'll put us back together at heart baby
- 50:35Speaker 25: Don't you.
- 50:38Speaker 9: Forget about me.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't you.
- 50:46Speaker 23: Forget about me.
- 50:47Speaker 15: But you won't.
- 50:50Speaker 7: Come by.
- 50:55Speaker 1: When you call my name.
- 50:57Speaker 4: But you won't come by when you.
- 51:04Speaker 9: Call my name.
- 51:06Speaker 26: When you walk away.
- 51:31Speaker 4: Won't call my name.
- 51:36Speaker 15: Will you call my name.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Possibly.
- 52:12Speaker 3: I mean, my wife has been, she's obsessed with, her
- 52:19Speaker 3: hobby is the U.S. Postal Service. And she loves to
- 52:23Speaker 3: mail letters, which I am fully supportive of because I
- 52:28Speaker 3: think that is a dead art form now, I guess.
- 52:32Speaker 1: I'm surprised it's still functional. Actually, I can tell you
- 52:36Speaker 1: how desperate the post office is to survive because I
- 52:40Speaker 1: looked out that window right over there earlier today and
- 52:43Speaker 1: I saw a postal truck drive up. And I'm like,
- 52:46Speaker 1: it's Sunday.
- 52:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 52:48Speaker 1: The post office is so desperate to survive in this
- 52:52Speaker 1: world that we live in that is nothing but other
- 52:54Speaker 1: shipping people that. They'll show up on a Sunday, which
- 52:58Speaker 1: if you go back in time, they would have laughed
- 53:01Speaker 1: at you for thinking at any point they would come
- 53:03Speaker 1: out on a Sunday and deliver you a letter. But yep,
- 53:06Speaker 1: I saw them handing out packages today. So post office,
- 53:10Speaker 1: they're hard up.
- 53:11Speaker 3: She's been coming up to me with cards and like, hey,
- 53:14Speaker 3: you need to sign these. They're for so-and-so. And I'm like,
- 53:17Speaker 3: I don't even know who these people are. And they're like,
- 53:20Speaker 3: you were at their wedding last year.
- 53:21Speaker 1: I was like, that doesn't mean I knew who they
- 53:23Speaker 1: were then either.
- 53:24Speaker 3: But yeah, my wife loves the post office so much.
- 53:27Speaker 1: We bought.
- 53:29Speaker 3: The other day, we went to... Okay, so she doesn't...
- 53:33Speaker 3: She doesn't collect stamps like a collector of stamps would
- 53:38Speaker 3: collect stamps. But she does like to go see what
- 53:42Speaker 3: they have and get the different ones.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Just mix it up a little.
- 53:46Speaker 15: Yeah, mix it up.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:48Speaker 3: And we walked out of the post... Like, we went
- 53:50Speaker 3: to a post office that... She knew about somehow that
- 53:57Speaker 3: was kind of out of the way. Doesn't get a
- 54:01Speaker 3: ton of business. And so she knows that because of that,
- 54:05Speaker 3: they have the stamps that the other places sell out of.
- 54:10Speaker 3: So we walk in there and the woman.
- 54:12Speaker 1: This is way too much strategy for buying stamps.
- 54:14Speaker 9: Oh, my God.
- 54:14Speaker 3: It gets worse.
- 54:15Speaker 1: In my mind.
- 54:15Speaker 3: Because the woman pulls out her little binder and we're
- 54:18Speaker 3: flipping through it. And my wife's like, oh, I need these.
- 54:20Speaker 3: I need those. I haven't seen those. I haven't seen these.
- 54:23Speaker 3: We walk out of the post office $ 400 worth of stamps.
- 54:31Speaker 1: What is wrong with her exactly?
- 54:35Speaker 3: Now, in her defense, they will be used. So it's
- 54:38Speaker 3: not like we're just, you know, pissing money away. And again,
- 54:44Speaker 3: she has a good job. So I was like, we
- 54:46Speaker 3: can afford that much in stamps.
- 54:48Speaker 1: I hope so.
- 54:49Speaker 3: Occasionally. But she made me carry them. And I was
- 54:54Speaker 3: so nervous on the walk from the post office to
- 54:56Speaker 3: the car because I was like, what if a big
- 54:59Speaker 3: gust of wind blows all these away? Or it rains.
- 55:02Speaker 1: There you go. A bird flies down, carries off all
- 55:04Speaker 1: your postage stamps.
- 55:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that's my wife's hobby. And again, I couldn't be
- 55:09Speaker 3: prouder of her because it's a fairly healthy hobby.
- 55:30Speaker 1: So, guess what happened the other day?
- 55:32Speaker 17: What?
- 55:32Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I went into a store. I know it's hard to
- 55:37Speaker 1: go out into the world, but I actually went into
- 55:39Speaker 1: a place, and I brought my goods up to the register,
- 55:43Speaker 1: and they went to ring me up, and damned if
- 55:46Speaker 1: it didn't say 666.
- 55:46Speaker 5: Ooh.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Fantastic. And the woman behind the counter went, oh, God. Like,
- 55:53Speaker 1: she kind of responded, and I was like, nah, that
- 55:57Speaker 1: seems about right. It's fine. So, it's obvious that we're
- 56:01Speaker 1: in tune with the dark forces of the universe.
- 56:04Speaker 5: Clearly.
- 56:06Speaker 1: And, you know, one of those things is probably because
- 56:10Speaker 1: we're always rolling 20-sided die.
- 56:12Speaker 8: We can't stop.
- 56:15Speaker 1: So, I, you know, as you may or may not know,
- 56:19Speaker 1: each time we roll the die, we open up a
- 56:22Speaker 1: portal to some sort of demon dimension and evil forces
- 56:25Speaker 1: come and go and do as they please. So, you know,
- 56:28Speaker 1: If you didn't know that at home, this is one
- 56:31Speaker 1: of the things we're doing now is opening up demon portals.
- 56:35Speaker 1: We also kind of watch horror movies, but this is
- 56:38Speaker 1: one of the benefits, fringe benefits that comes with setting
- 56:44Speaker 1: up a show that rolls die and brings in horror
- 56:47Speaker 1: movies and evil forces.
- 56:49Speaker 3: It's the whole reason I joined.
- 56:52Speaker 1: And you too can join and be part of this
- 56:54Speaker 1: evil madness. So, go to MovieMeltdown.com Click on that link
- 56:59Speaker 1: right there at the top that says join the Horror
- 57:01Speaker 1: Club and you can enjoy all the fun and games
- 57:04Speaker 1: that comes along with the Demon Dimensions that we're opening up.
- 57:08Speaker 1: And we talk about horror movies on occasion.
- 57:11Speaker 3: Sometimes. So, Brian, what's the minimum to join up for that?
- 57:16Speaker 3: Two bucks. Two bucks. Two American dollars and you can
- 57:20Speaker 3: get all this and more.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Two measly dollars and you can have access to all
- 57:25Speaker 1: of the episodes. Now, granted, you can throw some more
- 57:28Speaker 1: at us and we'll come up with some other crazy things.
- 57:30Speaker 1: But you get $ 2 in and you can listen to
- 57:34Speaker 1: every one of the bonus episodes. All horror related. All
- 57:38Speaker 1: just for you. And on top of that, our little
- 57:40Speaker 1: promo we've got going now is the previously mentioned rolling
- 57:45Speaker 1: of the die. If you join up, you get to
- 57:48Speaker 1: give us a movie to put on the list. And
- 57:50Speaker 1: then we'll roll the die and potentially get to your
- 57:53Speaker 1: movie down the line. We never know when. That's part
- 57:55Speaker 1: of the evil forces that live inside the 20-sided die.
- 57:59Speaker 1: But you can be part of that if you just
- 58:01Speaker 1: join the club. And then you can get your movie
- 58:04Speaker 1: on the list and listen as we crack open the
- 58:08Speaker 1: thin little membrane that's containing evil on the other side
- 58:11Speaker 1: of the void. Each week, we're poking at it with
- 58:15Speaker 1: a stick. You can be part of that magic. Evil magic.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Dark magic.
- 58:22Speaker 5: I know.
- 58:24Speaker 8: For $ 2.
- 58:27Speaker 3: You are probably just going to throw that money in
- 58:29Speaker 3: the garbage anyway.
- 58:31Speaker 1: Probably. I mean, you don't need anything to do with
- 58:34Speaker 1: it now. You can't go anywhere.
- 58:36Speaker 3: You can't do anything functional.
- 58:37Speaker 1: I was lucky to come up with enough to scrape
- 58:40Speaker 1: together to get $ 6. 66 worth of goods because I don't
- 58:44Speaker 1: go anywhere. I don't do anything now. It's the wonderful
- 58:46Speaker 1: world we live in. So now you've got that extra
- 58:49Speaker 1: two bucks to throw towards something important like this show.
- 58:55Speaker 1: That did actually happen. It was at a Walgreens. And
- 59:00Speaker 1: the woman was like, Oh Lord.
- 59:02Speaker 3: That's happened to me a handful of times. And I'm
- 59:05Speaker 3: always like, fantastic. I was somewhere. I don't remember what
- 59:09Speaker 3: it was. And the lady actually told me like when
- 59:13Speaker 3: the amount rang up, she's like, Oh, we'll just round
- 59:16Speaker 3: this up to six 70. I was like, you can
- 59:21Speaker 3: round it down. I was like, but you're not going
- 59:22Speaker 3: to rip me off just because the, you know, cash
- 59:25Speaker 3: register rang up an evil quote unquote, evil number.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Satan says you give me this for free.
- 59:31Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 59:31Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go.
- 59:33Speaker 1: Well, there you go. You don't have to round up
- 59:37Speaker 1: if you want. You can just leave it an even
- 59:39Speaker 1: two bucks. So there you go. If you want to
- 59:42Speaker 1: round it up to $ 100, feel free. I have a
- 59:46Speaker 1: God level set up just for crazy people that want
- 59:48Speaker 1: to throw $ 100 at us. But you don't have to
- 59:51Speaker 1: do that. We're really looking for like crazy millionaires that
- 59:55Speaker 1: want to just Throw money at something weird out there,
- 59:59Speaker 1: and we are those weirdos. So it's certainly an option
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: if you're looking for that. But assuming you're not a millionaire,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: two bucks is all you need.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: And we will take your $ 6. 66 if you have it.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: That's true. If you want to throw that in there
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: every month just to get on board with the evil,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: feel free. We are more than happy to go with
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: that evil number, unlike that lady behind the counter.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: Well, let's say you buy something for $ 3. 34 and all
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: you have... Am I doing this math right? I don't
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: know if I am or not.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I don't bother with math.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Well, let's say your change comes back for whatever reason, $ 6. 66,
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: and you're scared to death of what's going to happen.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: You send it to us and you get all this
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: great stuff.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: There you go. We're saving your soul. Yeah. The only
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: hope for you is to give us money so that
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: you can go on to some sort of afterlife that
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you will enjoy as opposed to the evil forces that
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: live within our episodes.
- 1:00:55Speaker 8: Turned so televangelist.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Get out your pocketbooks. You know that you want to give.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: That's what we're looking for. Some sort of demon televangelist.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: It's the ultimate level we're going for for this. So
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: go to movie meltdown.com. Click on the horror club link
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: on the right side of the page and join the club.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: With your help, we can keep this 20-sided die rolling.
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: Hey there, this is John Doe, and this is Movie Meltdown.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: We're glad to have you along. We have lots of
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: exciting things to talk about tonight. Alright, so for mixing
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: it up, because I got to this song, and once
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: again I was like, meh, we've heard that one a
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: million times. It's very fitting as you're sitting alone in
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: your house. In quarantine for all eternity. One is, in fact,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: the loneliest number. So I was like, eh, we've heard
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Three Dog Night do it a million times. But then
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: I was going, wait, isn't that one that Amy Mann
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: does in Magnolia?
- 1:02:38Speaker 14: Oh, yeah.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: And yes, in fact. So this is Amy Mann with
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: her version of one.
- 1:02:46Speaker 18: One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do. Two
- 1:02:54Speaker 18: can be as bad as one.
- 1:02:56Speaker 30: It's the loneliest number since the number one. No is
- 1:03:10Speaker 30: the saddest experience you'll ever.
- 1:03:13Speaker 29: Know Yes, it's the saddest experience you'll ever know Because
- 1:03:24Speaker 29: one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do One
- 1:03:32Speaker 29: is the loneliest number that.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: You'll ever know It's.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: Just no good anymore since you went away Now I
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday.
- 1:04:03Speaker 19: Because one is the loneliest number.
- 1:04:07Speaker 18: That you'll ever tell.
- 1:04:11Speaker 19: One is the loneliest number that you'll ever know One
- 1:04:20Speaker 19: is the loneliest number One is the loneliest number One
- 1:04:28Speaker 19: is the loneliest number that you'll ever do One is
- 1:04:35Speaker 19: the loneliest number Much, much worse than two.
- 1:04:45Speaker 28: Is the number divided by two?
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: The divided ones.
- 1:04:50Speaker 21: Decided to bring down the curtain on things for certain
- 1:04:57Speaker 21: There's nothing to keep them together.
- 1:05:08Speaker 17: And gives me a good excuse to tell you my
- 1:05:28Speaker 17: amy man story.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Oh which i don't know that i've i can't remember
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: if i told it at the time when it happened
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Because this was, I think you very briefly saw that
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: house that I was in that was over like the
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: true town, that house.
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: Is that the one where the TV took up the
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: entire room?
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: A good portion of it. I mean, I'd use that
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: TV now if I had it. It came with the
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: house when I left because I had no one to
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: move it.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: I remember you saying something about it.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: You'd be lucky I didn't sucker you into it. I
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: just had nowhere to put it either. Like if I,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: if I would have had somewhere to take it, I
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: probably would have, held onto it, I'd be watching it now, probably.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: Because it was one of those big screen but old
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: big screen, so it was a big giant box that
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: you just sat over there and it took up a
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: wall and back.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: I remember you buying that and then like a year later,
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: like legit flat screen TVs coming out.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's because I bought that one.
- 1:06:24Speaker 13: Probably.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Just like, we're clear now, go ahead, roll them out.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: But I couldn't have afforded them anyway. It's funny how
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: cheap they are now. Like when I think about how
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: much I paid For my TVs. Even the one that
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: wasn't that big one. The 32-inch I had. When I
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: think how much I paid for that back a million
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: years ago when I first was like, I need a
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: TV in my room.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: Holy shit.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: It was so much money.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: I've been so lucky. All but one of my TVs
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: have either been a hand-me-down or I bought used off
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: somebody who was just looking to get rid of it,
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: so they gave me a really good deal on it.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: I've only had to pay full price for one TV,
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: and I remember... Even now, I was like, I can't
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: believe I spent that much money on something.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: I'm surprised you're not watching that old TV I had.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Because if I would have known, I would have just
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: handed me down right to you. Here, take this. I
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: don't know what to do with it.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: The apartment that I was living in at the time,
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: because it was a basement apartment, it would not have
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: made it down the stairs. Otherwise, I would have taken
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: it up.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: There is your tie-in, because right there where that TV sat,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: directly out on the street in front of it just
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: a few feet because it was right in the front
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: as you came in the door there so i'm i'm
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: at i'm at home one day and i look outside
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: and there's a car parked over there and there's someone
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: a woman standing on the other side talking on the
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: phone and i stand there for a minute and i
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: look out and i go is that amy man It was,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: by the way.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: Was this when they were shooting the movie?
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: It's when they were shooting. And that's the only reason.
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: I didn't know she was in it, though.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: I don't. It may be the only reason that that
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: occurred to me. Because I was like, outside of hearing
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: about that, like if she was in line at the
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: grocery in front of me, I don't know. Would you
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: immediately go, hey, Amy, man?
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Maybe I would. I don't. Had I not. Like, I
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: also knew. I think it was even before I knew.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: Because eventually then we had the guys on that. definitely
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: michael you know has been on the show a bunch
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: so like he was cinematographer for that movie and then
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: um we had the director on at one point so
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: yeah it's like but that was later so at the
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: time i don't know that i'd even talked to them
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: i just knew that they were shooting a movie here
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: so that was the funny part was i was like
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: huh that looks like amy man and then she came
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: around the car and opened the back door of the
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: car and i was like oh and inside there is
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: john doe All right, then. Well, I'm guessing this has
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: something to do with the movie they're shooting here. So
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: it did. And um i also if it's funny that
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: then like a year later or however long it was
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: when i went to the premiere i'm like oh that's
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: why they were sitting there at one point directly like
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: when he's in the car they're shooting and like my
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: house is directly behind i know because my weirdo neighbor
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: had this like sign of a dog on their like
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: mounted on their house it's because you know god forbid
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: you not advertise the dog that's going to eat you
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: so that's pretty much what that sign said was like
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: stay out of my yard this dog will eat you
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: and uh you can see it out of focus behind
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: their head so i'm like okay they shot this scene
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: exactly across from my house and then later they go
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: in and out of this door that like at the
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: time i was like there's a door on this like
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: storage place right down like two houses over and across
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: the street. And it like one day it was just
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: like magically graffiti, like in a way that didn't look
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: like regular graffiti.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: It was like Hollywood graffiti because I was like, what
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: the hell's going on with that door over there? It
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: became the door that they go in and out of,
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: of the studio that they're recording this movie in.
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: That's pretty rad. Speaking of John Doe being in movies,
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: I was recently at my grandparents' house. Hanging out, and
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: we were watching Coal Miner's Daughter on TV, which I
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: never sat down to watch before and was pleasantly surprised
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: at how good of a movie that was.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: Yeah, we watched it for the show, and it kind
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: of holds up. It's a solid movie through and through.
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: But as soon as it was over, another movie came
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: on starring John Doe, and it was called Pure Country.
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: And that seems.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: George Strait. Yeah, that seems so odd to me. I
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: only know because I used to sell that movie nonstop
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: at the time. When it came out, oh my God,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: the people that were into George Strait that bought that.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: And I was just like.
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: Oh, I believe it.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Like country music creeps me out anyway. So the fact
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: that they made a movie around it is slightly annoying.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: But like I can see John getting cast in there.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: Like he's... Doesn't seem like it fits musically, but for
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: a while there, he was getting that kind of a guy.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: He only got cooler roles in the cooler directors. But yeah,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: he's been acting most of his career. He's just still
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: known a little more by music people. So yeah, the
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: movie was Pleased to Meet Me, and they did shoot
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: it in my town and directly across the street from me.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: And yeah, there was a day... that she was across
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: the street. And I, being the dork that I am,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: was like, I'm going to tweet her. So, and it actually,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: I've got the date here.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: Amy Mann, I'm looking at you.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: No, I went the other way with it. I was like,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: to Amy Mann, I said, you're hanging out in front
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: of my house. Are you following me? And she responded.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: Amy Mann tweeted back, Shoot, wrong house. I was following
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: this other guy. Sorry.
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: That's pretty awesome.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Thank you, Amy, man, for responding to my shenanigans.
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: And not with, who is this? I'm calling the police.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: So she is still invited on the show. We need
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: to discuss this in person next time she's in the area,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: which isn't anytime soon because we're all in quarantine. But
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: if the world ever returns to some normal fashion and
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: she goes on tour again, She's welcome to come on
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: the show, and I'll ask her why she was following me.
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: I don't know. If you had to be stalked by somebody,
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: that seems like a good one.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: Well, I did give her points for years, and I
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: just checked the other day. She finally changed it. But
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: for years, when you went to her Twitter page, normally
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: it gives a basic little five, ten-word bio. So it's like, musician, actor,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: whatever is what they always put on there. Hers was like, musician, songwriter...
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: oscar loser for magnolia she was nominated for magnolia for
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: best song and did not win and put that as
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: her her calling card on twitter i was like you
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: know that's impressive i gotta say and you have a
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: good sense of humor about it so.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: There's nothing wrong with being an oscar.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Loser don't know her personally hung out with john but
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: did not ever sit down with amy so but she
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: seems pretty cool based on those things yeah All right,
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: this one's pretty much just because I got to that
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: song and I was like, ah, yeah, let's play that.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: Because I haven't even seen the movie. Solitary Man, starring
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Michael Douglas, who is actually, I checked, I was like,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: he's been married forever. He's not solitary. He's been married
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: to her for 21 years, by the way.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:13:41Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: That's like 3,000 years in Hollywood marriage.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of. And for someone who married someone massively
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: younger than him, that held up better than people I
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: certainly didn't expect them to be together 21 years later.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: So that's not normally how Hollywood marriages go. Or old
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: guys marrying younger women.
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: Good for them.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: Yeah, impressive that they've hung in there. But featured in
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: that movie, the song by Mr. Neil Diamond.
- 1:14:15Speaker 26: Melinda was mine till the time that I found her
- 1:14:22Speaker 26: Holding Jim, loving him Then Sue came along, loved me strong,
- 1:14:31Speaker 26: that's what I thought Me and Sue, that died too
- 1:14:44Speaker 26: But until I can find me The girls will stay
- 1:14:50Speaker 26: And won't play games behind me And.
- 1:14:54Speaker 21: I'll be what I am A.
- 1:14:57Speaker 26: Solitary man A.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: Solitary man I've had it to.
- 1:15:06Speaker 26: Here Being where love's a small world Part-time thing.
- 1:15:14Speaker 13: Paper rain.
- 1:15:17Speaker 26: I know it's been done having.
- 1:15:20Speaker 14: One girl who loves.
- 1:15:22Speaker 15: You right or wrong.
- 1:15:27Speaker 13: We go strong.
- 1:15:31Speaker 26: Don't know that i will but until i can find me.
- 1:15:37Speaker 15: The girls will stay and won't play games behind me.
- 1:15:42Speaker 26: I'll be what I am. A solitary man. A solitary man.
- 1:15:49Speaker 26: A solitary man. But until I can find me.
- 1:16:11Speaker 15: A girl will stay And won't play games behind me
- 1:16:17Speaker 15: And I'll be.
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: What I am A.
- 1:16:21Speaker 27: Solitary man Solitary man Solitary man Solitary.
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: Man Hey, this is Tiffany and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:16:45Speaker 28: The flowers you gave me Are just about to die
- 1:16:52Speaker 28: When I think about What could have been Makes me
- 1:16:57Speaker 28: want to cry All right.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: Now this one, again, I was just trying to get
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: to good movie tie-ins that actually had like a reason
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: for it and had something that like tied in so
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: that you really kind of get the isolation and the lockdown.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: And I got to 10 Cloverfield Lane, which I was
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: shocked how much I liked that by far.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: Sadly haven't seen it.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Oh my God. Like I'm okay with Cloverfield Lane.
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: But I thought it was all right for what it was.
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: It doesn't compare to 10 cornfield. Like I am so
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: amazed by how, and I, and I haven't watched it
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: in years. Cause I was thinking like I was, it's
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: another one of those I need to get a copy
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: of because it's so good. And, and the majority of
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: it is this thing breaks out pretty much the first movie.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: It happens kind of simultaneously to the first movie. And then,
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: There are people that just freak out and don't know
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: what is going on, but knows something is going on.
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: Is it basically the same monster?
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing. They don't know. They just kind
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: of know something's going on, and everybody kind of goes
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: into hiding. And we've got a character who has essentially
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: a fallout shelter, who's crazy survivalist, built their own bomb
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: shelter kind of thing on their property. And goes into hiding,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: and this other person finds their way into it, and
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: then they get locked in. And, like, the majority of
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: the movie is locked in this bunker. And then, like,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: so you get so much of this. And what's funny is, again,
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: it's making use of a fun song. They play I
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: Think We're Alone Now by Tommy James and the Shondells. Oh,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: not the Tiffany? And during... I'm... down with some Tiffany.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: Was it Tiffany or Debbie Gibson?
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Oh, no, Tiffany. And I played it, I'm sure, on
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: the episode with Tiffany. I hear her on music all
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: the time and I'm like, I know that lady. She
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: gave me a hug. Tiffany is very cool. But no,
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: they play the original and.
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: It's it is the most perfect tie-in for what we're
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: talking about because they play it right at the point
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: where like our character has accepted okay this is where
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: i am now this is you know the world is
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: falling apart and i guess what i'm gonna survive i'm
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: gonna be in here so it's they're kind of getting
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: used to the new life montage yeah so you get
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: them like settling in and kind of like i'm gonna
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: put this lamp here i guess because this is what
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: i have to work with so i'm gonna put a
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: picture on the wall here and like and then it
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: becomes working on puzzles or playing board games or how
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: many hours are we gonna watch these handful of movies
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: that we have so it's a nice little I could
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: be bored out of my mind, but at least I'm
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: alive kind of a thing. So it's, yeah, I feel
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: like the perfect tie in to what we're dealing with.
- 1:20:02Speaker 15: Children behave.
- 1:20:05Speaker 23: That's what they say when we're together.
- 1:20:09Speaker 8: And watch how you play. They don't understand.
- 1:20:14Speaker 17: And so we're.
- 1:20:15Speaker 18: Running just as fast as we can.
- 1:20:24Speaker 8: I think we're alone.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Now There doesn't seem to be anyone around.
- 1:20:29Speaker 26: I think we're alone now The beating of.
- 1:20:31Speaker 21: Our hearts is the only sound.
- 1:20:49Speaker 16: Look at the.
- 1:20:53Speaker 7: Way We gotta hide what we're doing Cause what would they.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: Say If they ever knew And so we're running just
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: as fast as we.
- 1:21:05Speaker 28: Can Holding on to one another's.
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: Hand Trying to get away into the night And then
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: you put your.
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: Arms around me As we crumble to the ground And.
- 1:21:18Speaker 8: Then you say.
- 1:21:23Speaker 15: I think we're alone now.
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: The beating of our hearts is the only sound.
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: All right so we've had a lot of you know
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: lonely times locked down in this craziness so i was
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: trying to head out a couple of upbeat wins or
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: at least upbeat messages more than anything So in trying
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: to think of different tie-ins and different ways that people
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: are isolated, I got the one that was maybe the
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: most isolated character in just about any movie, The Martian.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: Our character is the only person on the planet and
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: deals with a level of isolation and just trying to
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: not go crazy after a while. I rewatched it recently
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: and I was like, this is I remember liking it
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: the first time I saw it, but I'm like, it
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: holds up. It's one of the more well-adjusted recent Ridley
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: Scott movies because he's hit and miss these days in
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: his later years. You get different movies from Ridley Scott
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: than you used to get. So that was one that's
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: pretty safe and kind of like plays it in, again,
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: in a more mainstream kind of thing than you used
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: to get from him or even that you get from
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: him in other movies now. But... it's surprisingly just sort
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: of fun and it's just like the entirety of the
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: movie is just like yeah science science kicks ass so
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: everything about it is just like you know if you're
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: smart enough you can figure your way out anything well
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: even at the.
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: End of the movie when he's giving the little lecture
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: nobody's like how did you not eat your own face.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: He's like, well, I had disco to get me through.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: So that was the other. I was like, well, I mean,
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: that's his coping mechanism because I believe it's the commander
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: of the unit that put together their music and brought
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: all of her playlists along for the mission. And she
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: was super into disco. So the one that I thought, well,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: at least the message works. Is I Will Survive.
- 1:23:59Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: And I'm like, that's the perfect tie-in for that character
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: and is the most upbeat message we can take out
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: of this last year. It's like, you know, going through
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: a lot of shit, but we can persevere. We can
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: make it through.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: I'll survive.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: And as much as I think Gloria Gaynor is a
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: talented artist, I feel like we've all heard that one
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: a million times. So this is one of those I
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: like to sometimes pull a switch on this one. I'm like,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: all right, we'll go with the reference, but then I
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: might pick a different song coverage. Because I can't hear
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: that song and not think how much I love the
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: cake version.
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: I was hoping you were going to say that.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: Damn, that version is good.
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: They beefed the hell out of that song.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: And like... It just, it works so much more, even
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: than the lyrics. Like, the Gloria one is sort of
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: an upbeat, dancey song, and the message is there if
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: you read the lyrics. But within the song, like, you
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: don't get tone from her. It's just, it's more of
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: a disco song than it is the message. The cake
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: version is just bitter as hell. And I'm just like,
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: that is the through line in this song. It's just like,
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: screw you.
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: I will survive.
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: I love how well that comes through in that song.
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: What's the thing with the Gloria Gaynor version? You could
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: listen to it a hundred times and never pick.
- 1:25:26Speaker 12: Up on it.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: And not even think about it. It's so dancey that
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: you don't even get the message from it.
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: But you listen to Cake's version right away and you're like...
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: You're like, this is somebody who's seen some things and
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: their life may not be going the way they want
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: it to, but they know that they're going to get
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: through it one way or the other.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: And got shafted.
- 1:25:47Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: And is bitter about it, but... That is the takeaway.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: It's just like, you know what? I don't care because
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: I will get through this.
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: It's gonna suck, but I will get through this.
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: Even just to spite you, I will get through this.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: Yeah, more than anything, to spite you, I will survive this. So, again,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: if there's a takeaway we need from this.
- 1:26:09Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: And if I needed to tie it to a movie,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: technically it's in Secretary, which if you need a movie
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: that is about isolation from the rest of society that
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: attempts to hide their weird perversions, Secretary. I like that
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: way more than I should, I'm pretty sure, but also
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: happens to work in that version of I Will Survive.
- 1:26:29Speaker 9: At first I was afraid. I was petrified. I kept
- 1:26:34Speaker 9: thinking I could never live without you by my side.
- 1:26:38Speaker 9: But then I spent so many nights just thinking how
- 1:26:42Speaker 9: you'd done me wrong.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: I grew strong.
- 1:26:47Speaker 9: I learned how to get along and so you're.
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: Back from outer space.
- 1:26:54Speaker 9: I just walked in to find you here without that
- 1:26:57Speaker 9: look upon your face. I should have changed my fucking lock.
- 1:27:02Speaker 9: I would have made you leave your key if I'd
- 1:27:05Speaker 9: have known for just one second you'd be back to
- 1:27:09Speaker 9: bother me.
- 1:27:10Speaker 17: Oh, now go.
- 1:27:11Speaker 9: I Just turn around. Now you're not welcome anymore.
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: Weren't you the one who tried to.
- 1:27:23Speaker 9: Break me with desire?
- 1:27:24Speaker 10: Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay.
- 1:27:28Speaker 25: Down and die?
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: Oh, not I. Bye.
- 1:27:34Speaker 15: Bye.
- 1:27:35Speaker 16: Bye. It took all.
- 1:28:30Speaker 9: The strength I had just not to fall apart. I'm
- 1:28:34Speaker 9: trying hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart
- 1:28:39Speaker 9: and I spent oh so many nights just feeling sorry
- 1:28:43Speaker 9: for myself I used to cry But now I.
- 1:28:48Speaker 12: Hold my head up high And you see me with
- 1:28:53Speaker 12: somebody new I'm not that stupid little person Still in
- 1:28:58Speaker 12: love with you And so you thought you'd just drop
- 1:29:02Speaker 12: by And.
- 1:29:02Speaker 9: You expect me to be free But now I'm saving
- 1:29:06Speaker 9: all my lovin' For someone who's lovin' me Oh now
- 1:29:11Speaker 9: go walk out the door Just turn around now you're
- 1:29:18Speaker 9: not welcome anymore weren't you the one who tried to
- 1:29:23Speaker 9: break me with desire did you think i'd crumble did
- 1:29:27Speaker 9: you think i'd lay down and.
- 1:29:29Speaker 15: Die oh no.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: Yeah, as long as.
- 1:29:36Speaker 9: I know how to love, I know I'll be alive.
- 1:29:39Speaker 9: I've got all my life to live. I've got all
- 1:29:43Speaker 9: my love to give.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: I will survive. I will survive.
- 1:29:49Speaker 16: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:14Speaker 19: One, two.
- 1:30:15Speaker 17: One, two.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: By the way damn that trumpet is amazing oh yeah
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: and not what you expect to come along in the
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: middle of a rock song if anybody's finding new and
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: interesting ways to use unconventional instruments in traditional ish rock
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: songs like not that they're traditional rock band in any
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: way shape or form but yeah yeah god.
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: That's Charlton Heston is the Omega Man. The Omega Man.
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: More than fantasy.
- 1:31:38Speaker 24: Maybe the future.
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: So, to round things out, I was coming up, again,
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: like my second thought. First was down with the sickness.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: And then the next was when I think of isolation
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: in movies and life in general. Again, another movie that
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: I return to a lot in my head. And it's
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: flawed as hell, and I don't care. I think there's
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: so much that it does on an amazing level. My
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: go-to is I Am Legend. Granted, I'm also a big
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: fan of the Vincent Price doing this. I remember watching
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: that the first time.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: What was the Vincent Price? Last Man on Earth?
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: Last Man on Earth. And yeah, he was just that tortured, again,
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: just alone and down. tormented by these creatures in the
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: you know the those scenes just stuck with me from
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: that version yeah.
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: But at least Will Smith tried to have fun with
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: being alone.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: That was then that was the thing like I but
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: you start to see and I think that's what it
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: does so well like that first half is amazing and
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: even overall like I the main thing it suffers from
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: is bad CG but yeah I like his performance is
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: so good and like it really gives you that the
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: world is a abandoned feeling like to the point that
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: you start to see him losing it by by the
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: midway point of like well he has gone so long
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: without human contact that he's really starting to lose his mind.
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: The scene where he finds the the mannequin at the
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: end of the street and he's like wait a minute
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: i didn't put you there yeah is truly terrifying it
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: is creepy because yeah okay so i i had seen
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: last man on earth I kind of knew the gist
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: of the novel. So I know that he's technically not alone,
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: but getting lost in that moment of he's supposed to
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: be all alone. And that just, it's not like a
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: mannequin's just going to be there propped up by itself.
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: Well, you see so many stages. Again, him just being
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: an amazing actor. Like you see the version of him
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: in the video store with the mannequins, which is his like,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: trying to play the game to keep himself from losing
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: his mind but is already kind of questionable as to
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: how stable you are at this point but he's trying
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: to make a fun version of i'm losing my mind
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: then you get a few scenes later when he's back
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: there with the mannequin like talking to it and losing
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: it and then you get to the point of like
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: the the weird thing once he comes in contact with
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: other people and the kids watching Shrek and he just
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: starts like memorizing it and you realize this is all
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: he's had this is all he's done this is the
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: only way he's even functional as a human being is
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: going through the motions of all these things and the
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: only other thing that kept him somewhat sane is Sam
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: who again one of the best performers that's why I
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: can't watch the movie like I legitimately when I just
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: think about it I get choked up like that scene
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: is so heartbreaking yeah But I remember at the time,
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: I know the name because I credited it. It's Kona,
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: I believe, is the actor's name. Because I was like,
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: there's essentially two leads in this movie. Eventually, you get
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: some other people. But for the most part, there are
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: two characters on screen the majority of the first half
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: of the movie. And Kona was the actor playing Samantha
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: and is amazing. So yeah, bonus points to dog acting.
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: But yeah, I can't even think about that scene.
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: Like, it kills me.
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: Especially this year. Again, another downer part of this 2020.
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: Dealing with that myself. So, yeah. But as a person
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: who spends most of my time talking to a dog,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: the remaining dog I have, that was a good tie-in.
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: But the other thing that stuck with me, and I think...
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: because there's this underlying message that isn't just about music,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: but it was his go-to music in general. And that
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: whole movie is like, I, I don't have a thing
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: for reggae, but it's like, I appreciate it for what
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: it is.
- 1:35:58Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: But it's one of those, I know plenty of people
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: still reference other. I'm like, if I need it, I
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: go to the source or at least the best example
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: of it. Like if I need to hear something, um,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: You go to Bob Marley because that's it. He did
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: what needed to be done for me anyway. It's like
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: there are other people out there that are seeking out new...
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: I know someone in general who used to love to
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: go to a local bar that has now been leveled.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: That's how long ago this was.
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: I figured that's what you were talking about.
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: I figured you knew where it was.
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: I figured I know who you're talking about too.
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: And would go see a reggae band that if I
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: remember seeing them was a bunch of dorky white guys.
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: And this person was a dorky white guy who would
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: go with his dorky white guy friends and they would
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: go to reggae night and they would think it was
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: the coolest thing. And I was just like, you know,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: I don't need that version of reggae. I just don't.
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: I just don't. If I want to hear it and
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: I need my fix, I'll go listen to any, specifically
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: that album that he references. Anything with Bob Marley that
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: is from that era is amazing. And you see somebody
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: who is just like... not only musically gifted, but just...
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: And that's what I think ties into the movie so well,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: is he has a bigger philosophy. He uses... And I'm
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: going to work in that story right here as we
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: get into it and as we go out here. But
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: the fact that he was using music as his way
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: to bring people together, as his way to fight against
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: racism and fight against hatred in the world. And I'm like,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: if anything... in this year we've been through, this is
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: the message we need to take away. So I was like,
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: that's how I want to go out on, on one
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: of the movies that I do tie mostly to isolation,
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: but also the most important part to take away from
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: that movie is that, that, that little speech that he
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: gives is amazing. And like, it leads into three little birds,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: which is, um, again, just like it's within the song, not,
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: not that message. And I thought, again, that's the way
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: to go out with something sort of upbeat that that's
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: taking this, this good message that he has about, you know,
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: surviving being shot down and coming back to perform and,
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: and bring music and peace to the world. And I'm like, that's,
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: that's how we need to go out.
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:38:22Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: I keep forgetting with, with, I keep forgetting that there's,
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: several big issues that we're facing this year. Not just. Yeah.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, quarantine is one of them. And I
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: think quarantine led to some of that too. It's like
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: people suddenly were, you know, stuck in their house and
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: looking at everything going on around them and, and maybe they,
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: they're distracted other years. And this year, maybe they saw
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: things that they would have, if not totally missed, would
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: have just shrugged and went to work the next day.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: But it's a little harder when all you do is
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: sit at home and watch things going horribly wrong on TV.
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: So I don't, I don't want to get into politics,
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: but this has been one of the most reactionary years
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: of my lifetime. Anyway, I'm, I know that they're, In
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: the past, there have been bad things that have happened
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: and there have been bad reactions. And positive things, because
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: there has been some positive change as well.
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: Baby steps. But, you know, it's... But it's.
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: Been an interesting year.
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: It's been a weird reaction and a necessary reaction on
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: many ways. Yes, yeah. So, yeah, I was just like,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: that's a good way to round it out. So, this
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: is a balance of all of these things as we
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: go out here. So, anything else to pass along?
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: Get better, Nora. Actually, we don't even know if she's bad.
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't think she's infected, so get over your boredom.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: Take care of that cat. And come back for the
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: next Horror Club meetup. And that's the same for you guys.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: If you're not part of the club, join up and
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: listen to whatever the hell Nora follows up with. She's
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: probably going to have some crazy story from lockdown to
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: follow up with, so We'll be here next time doing that.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: But until then, I will remind you, Get a Life
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: will provide the soundtrack.
- 1:40:21Speaker 24: He had this idea of kind of a virologist's idea.
- 1:40:26Speaker 24: He believed that you could cure racism and hate, literally
- 1:40:30Speaker 24: cure it, by injecting music and love into people's lives.
- 1:40:38Speaker 24: When he was scheduled to perform at a peace rally...
- 1:40:42Speaker 24: A gunman came to his house and shot him down.
- 1:40:48Speaker 24: Two days later, he walked out on that stage and sang.
- 1:40:55Speaker 24: Somebody asked him why. He said, the people who are
- 1:41:02Speaker 24: trying to make this world worse are not taking a
- 1:41:06Speaker 24: day off.
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: How can I?
- 1:41:13Speaker 24: Light up the darkness.
- 1:41:15Speaker 5: Don't worry about a thing cause every little thing gonna
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: be alright singing don't worry.
- 1:41:45Speaker 17: Thank you.
- 1:42:15Speaker 4: This is my message to you. Singing don't worry about
- 1:42:24Speaker 4: a thing. Cause every little thing is gonna be alright.
- 1:42:31Speaker 4: Singing don't worry about a thing. Cause every little thing
- 1:42:41Speaker 4: is gonna be alright.
- 1:42:46Speaker 21: This is my message to you.
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: Don't worry.
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: Don't worry about a thing.
- 1:43:45Speaker 21: When he's in the video store, the girl.
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: Comes up and goes, what's the werewolf movie with the
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: mom from E.T.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: He was like howling for her right over there. I
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: was like, yep, that's the life of a video clerk.
