- 0:10Welcome beautiful people around the world it's your house Simone
- 0:15and welcome back to I was thinking so as you can tell by
- 0:20the title this is this is going to be abts event Y'all should
- 0:24know me by now. I am an army.
- 0:26This ain't your thing. Just to stop listening right
- 0:28now, but I'm calling it the BTS Adirang extravaganza.
- 0:34Fancy, right? So because there's just so much
- 0:38with this comeback. We've waited so long for BTS to
- 0:41come back. I am dividing this up into two
- 0:44parts. So this is going to be Part 1
- 0:46where we just mainly focus about the comeback live that they did
- 0:50and Seoul as well as the documentary that just dropped on
- 0:53Netflix on March 27th. But I am not alone and talking
- 0:57about this. First I would like to introduce
- 1:00Juice. She's basically my Co host now.
- 1:02My Co host, my second Co host. Yes, and you've heard her voice
- 1:05before. It is the lovely Gina.
- 1:08Everyone. And we also have another special
- 1:12guest, first time being on here. If you have a TikTok, you may
- 1:16have seen her Tik Toks, you know, circling around whether
- 1:19she's giving very philosophical, you know, insight to BTS or the
- 1:24fandom, as well as her very lovely sexy British accent
- 1:28joining us all the way from the UK.
- 1:30It is. Shannon, hello.
- 1:32And I need to make sure I put on said sexy British accent for
- 1:35everybody, obviously. I love your voice.
- 1:37OK, I just want to say that thank you and I still don't know
- 1:41how to pronounce your username. Is it schnooon?
- 1:44Schnooon. Schnooon.
- 1:46Schnooon would just make noises at my general direction.
- 1:49I'll, I'll, I'll listen. I'll, I'll perk up.
- 1:51OK, yeah. So like if you have a TikTok, if
- 1:53you've seen the username Schnooon, then that is Shannon.
- 1:56Oh, yes, thank you for joining us.
- 1:59How are you doing today? I'm good.
- 2:02It's a bit later in the day for me, it's my day is just winding
- 2:04down so but I'm very good on this, this lovely Sunday.
- 2:07Good, good. How about you, Gina?
- 2:08How are you doing today? Actually pretty decent.
- 2:11I actually slept pretty well. Sometimes on the weekends it's
- 2:15hard to get sleep for me, but I actually woke up and I'm like,
- 2:18I'm actually awake. I need my coffee still but my
- 2:22brain was actually functioning so I actually it's not been too
- 2:25bad. Good.
- 2:26I'm glad to hear that. I'm still for some reason
- 2:28recovering because I guess I'm just getting old.
- 2:30Friday night I did actually go see twice in Orlando.
- 2:33They came to Florida for the first time, so it was really
- 2:36good. It was a lot different too.
- 2:37They're my first girl group I ever saw and it was different
- 2:41because you know, some of the members are injured, so instead
- 2:43of all nine, it was only 7. But I had a fun time.
- 2:46They put on a great show and it was also good too because I got
- 2:49to experience a 360 stage before BTS.
- 2:54I still I've never experienced Yeah.
- 2:57It's, it's interesting, obviously the stage setup is
- 3:00different than theirs and it's in our arena.
- 3:02So I'm curious of what it's going to look like in a stadium.
- 3:06But it's, it's a lot. I'm just letting you know right
- 3:08now. It's a lot to focus on because
- 3:10there's sometimes where the members are like in the middle
- 3:13of the stage and then they had two sides of extended stages.
- 3:16So sometimes some of them would be in the middle, but like
- 3:18others would be on the extended side.
- 3:20And then like if they're in the middle, their dancers may come
- 3:23out for like 1 of the like more, well, more known numbers.
- 3:26And so like, do you folks focus on the dancers?
- 3:28Do you focus on them? Do you focus on the screen if
- 3:30their backs is towards you? Because they do try their best
- 3:32to like make sure they're facing like the whole arena.
- 3:35But there is sometimes you know their back is going to be to
- 3:37you. So like if you look at the
- 3:39screen, that's where the camera is directing like the members
- 3:42face. It was a lie.
- 3:44Over simulation, very overstimulating I.
- 3:48Cannot imagine what it's going to be like for BTS and I'm
- 3:51actually going to be seeing them when this episode comes out this
- 3:54month. I can't believe that.
- 3:56I know. Are we all excited?
- 3:58Are we ready? I I'm not ready.
- 4:01I feel excited. I think I'm just not ready
- 4:03because I don't even know what to expect.
- 4:05And luckily we do get the soul live like when they're when they
- 4:10do the first part of their tour. But even then, I think it's so
- 4:15different when you see it and you're absorbing it and then
- 4:18live seeing it and absorbing it. Because we can have quote
- 4:22spoilers by just watching it, but until you're in that
- 4:25stadium, you don't really know what it's going to feel like.
- 4:29Yeah, I feel like I just don't have a conception that it's
- 4:31actually like happening and that I'm going to see them and that
- 4:34they're coming here because it's just been like, it's my first
- 4:36time ever seeing them as a group.
- 4:39Like, the only and the only other person I've seen before is
- 4:41Gin. And that was last year.
- 4:43And even then, like on the day that I was rocking up there,
- 4:46like traveling all the way to London Sea, I was just like, and
- 4:48then actually like, is this happening?
- 4:50And then he thought he was on stage and it was.
- 4:52We had a pretty good view. Like I could see that it was
- 4:54him. But even then I was like, huh,
- 4:56like it was just like, that's a member that's that's in front of
- 4:59my front of my face. And and yeah, I don't know what
- 5:01it's. I think even when I see it, the
- 5:03only thing that really it started to thinking was when
- 5:05actually speaking the 360 stages, when I saw some of the
- 5:07choreo for some of their performances in this last
- 5:10comeback and they were doing a 360 design.
- 5:12I was like, oh, that's what it's going to look like.
- 5:14But even then, I haven't been able to like put together that
- 5:16they're going to do that in front of my eyeballs.
- 5:18It's. Just yeah, it's really daunting
- 5:21to think about because we have never seen them do a 360 stage.
- 5:26They've always just had an end stage and even the members doing
- 5:31their solos didn't even do touch a 360.
- 5:34They had extended stages that you could see but like all
- 5:38around, but like not something with an open back.
- 5:41And I think that's going to be definitely more over stimulating
- 5:44than we think. So if that was, you know,
- 5:48definitely a lot to take in. I can't imagine seven men doing
- 5:52high speed dancing and doing choreo and then with all of them
- 5:58like just shooting out from the center, just going different
- 6:01directions like it's going to be.
- 6:03And they don't stand still. None of them stand I'll when
- 6:06they perform. Yeah.
- 6:07So it's going to be like releasing the zoo animals like
- 6:11they're just going to be. Everywhere.
- 6:14Yeah, they're going to be pending on all sides by all of
- 6:16us. Like there's no like down in
- 6:18time, but let me just like, hide at the edge of the stage because
- 6:21yeah, they're they've got to be on it.
- 6:23But yeah, it's just, yeah, it's gonna be so it's gonna be so
- 6:26good. It's gonna be fun.
- 6:27Well Speaking of Shannon only seeing Jen and not all 7 before
- 6:32until this upcoming tour, how actually did you get into BTS?
- 6:36And we know who your biases is, but let the audience know who
- 6:39your biases are, because you have more than one.
- 6:42I do, I do. I'm I'm greedy.
- 6:45I'm very I've I've I have a double, I have a double bias and
- 6:48I have double bias records. So I am double.
- 6:51I double bias both Nam Jin and Jimin.
- 6:53So mini money and I got into BTS.
- 6:57So it was like a really, it was kind of a weird route really
- 6:59because it wasn't my first understanding of K pop when I'd
- 7:03been in school, which was back in 2011, my friend who'd it was
- 7:10at the dawn of YouTube and my friend had known about this.
- 7:13She she kind of introduced us to this group that go, this is a
- 7:15group, they're from Korea, they're called shiny.
- 7:16And we just had this kind of strange like fascination with
- 7:19seeing like a music video that was just different and a group
- 7:22that was different in a different language.
- 7:23So we kind of in like the really early days of what we
- 7:26understood. We kind of stand shiny, but it
- 7:29was a really like in it was just it was a completely different
- 7:32relationship because like fandom, it was nowhere near what
- 7:35it is now like, and it's nowhere near as kind of known and
- 7:38fangirl like K pop standing is just was completely different.
- 7:41So we didn't really know there was like a community to connect
- 7:44to. We just knew that this YouTube
- 7:45channel that was for shiny would occasionally come up with music
- 7:48videos and like, oh, another one.
- 7:49Let's watch that one. And then Fast forward to when I
- 7:53was so then school ended, did uni came out, uni came into the
- 7:57the workplace and we were randomly striking up a
- 8:00conversation in the office about, I think we were talking
- 8:02about like Japanese music. We were talking about Vocaloid,
- 8:04We were talking about things. And then from there we were
- 8:06like, Oh yeah, what about K pop? I heard K pop is a thing.
- 8:09And I was like, Oh yeah, I used to like stand.
- 8:11I'm not still didn't know the word stand back then.
- 8:13I was like, Oh yeah, I used to watch this group called Shiny.
- 8:16And then and then I like later that evening I was like, yeah,
- 8:19like K pop. Like what is who are the latest
- 8:21in K pop? And it was as simple.
- 8:23It was going on YouTube and typing in the the letters BTS on
- 8:27on YouTube. And the first thing that came up
- 8:29at the top of the search results was blood, sweat and tears.
- 8:31And so I watched that and honestly, like people talk about
- 8:34the rabbit hole and I know a lot of people like it's, it's sort
- 8:37of maybe kind of exaggerated, but it did genuinely abundantly
- 8:40feeling of I was like sinking physically into something like I
- 8:44was like overcome with this excitement because I was like,
- 8:47first of all, this is not what I expected.
- 8:49So it was all the feeling of my expectations have been
- 8:51completely frown, but also this was exciting.
- 8:54This was cinematic, this was artistic, this was literary, was
- 8:57based on a novel. It was the lyrics were not
- 8:59wonderful, the beat was not what I everything was completely
- 9:02different. And it was something that I was
- 9:03like, I need to know where this goes.
- 9:05I need to know where it came from, I need to know where it's
- 9:07going. I need to know as much as
- 9:09possible. And it was just, it was a
- 9:11straight, it was a straight Cliff dive basically for me.
- 9:14And that was in 2018. So at the towards the end, so
- 9:18unfortunately, speak yourself. I just wrapped when I missed my
- 9:21opportunity. And then obviously we didn't get
- 9:22Mod 7. That would have been my first.
- 9:24My first tour didn't happen for any of us, but yeah, so it's
- 9:28been, it'll be nearly seven years just before before I
- 9:31actually get to see them, which that bloody 7 again, just
- 9:34follows us everywhere. But it's just, yeah, it's just
- 9:36so great. OK.
- 9:38You who are your records then if.
- 9:40Oh, Oh yeah. So for my records.
- 9:43So yeah, Kobe and Yungi. So yeah.
- 9:47So I just I have all rap line. Just I mean, read into that what
- 9:51you will. People read the psychology of of
- 9:53by of biasing or being wrecked by all of rap line.
- 9:56But yeah, but I tend to my my biases.
- 9:58I always find follow a weird pattern.
- 10:00I tend to like the rapper Daddy and then the dance.
- 10:03The dance prints across most, most K pop groups.
- 10:06They fall into those two categories.
- 10:07So you know, I am I am what I am.
- 10:10Listen same because we both share one of the biases.
- 10:14Namjin, that's my man. That's who got me in.
- 10:18Y'all can go back and listen if you're new to the podcast of how
- 10:21we got into K pop all the way back in 2021 of the first like 4
- 10:25episodes because my friend Macy was showing me because she was
- 10:28into them before I was and like idle.
- 10:31I'm not going to lie I was just very confused.
- 10:33There was just a lot of bright colors.
- 10:35I didn't know what to focus on as far as the lyrics or like you
- 10:38know them dancing up like a lots going on.
- 10:40Then she showed me mic drop. I was like OK mic drop that's
- 10:43more my speed. And then all of a sudden you
- 10:45just get this blonde dude popping off this ambulance
- 10:49talking about baby watch your mouth.
- 10:50I'm like, who is this Macy? Who is, who is this one?
- 10:54Not to be weird like that, but who is this rapping at me
- 10:57aggressively like that? And then you know what?
- 11:00The rest is just history. So.
- 11:03I know I when I see the two of you I always think nom Jean
- 11:07first like I always do. Even though Shannon is dual
- 11:12biased, I always think of nom Jean first.
- 11:14I agree. I think that you are very both
- 11:17nom Jean forward. I mean, I would say, I was going
- 11:20to say, I would say that I get like I got I feel like I'm more
- 11:24like foam at the mouth Phenom Gin a lot more.
- 11:27So it's a lot more in people's faces.
- 11:29And then Jim and I'm just like, like I just they both make me
- 11:32feel very soft inside. But with Jim and it's very like,
- 11:34yeah, it's a lot more like I feel like it's a very strong
- 11:37emotional attachment to Jimin. Like Jimin is almost like the
- 11:39emotion. And then not to say that and
- 11:42either of them miss this, but for me, it's like emotion first
- 11:45for Jimin, just like there's like love and affection.
- 11:47And then it's just for just Ferrell.
- 11:49Ferrell foaming at the mouth. I.
- 11:52Think you would? Appreciate.
- 11:53You would appreciate that. I feel he doesn't get enough of
- 11:56that, so I feel like he would appreciate that.
- 11:58Absolutely. Yes.
- 12:00Yeah, and also too, because when I first started out, I mean,
- 12:02Hobie was my bias wrecker for the same reason.
- 12:06Just the dancing, when I first saw him dancing mainly, I think
- 12:09it was Boy Meets Evil was what got me to really start paying
- 12:12attention to him when I discovered that video.
- 12:15And now I just bias, you know, rap line and then like vocal
- 12:18line. It's just like all my bias
- 12:19records. But like, you know, Nom Junior,
- 12:21she's kind of like the leader in the bias line of rap line.
- 12:26It's it. Is always funny because in my
- 12:28story, Jimin was my gateway bias.
- 12:31That's who brought me into ETS. But then I ended up falling in
- 12:37love with Hobie and then it's been Hobie forevermore.
- 12:40Like I can't. He stalks in my sleep at this
- 12:43point like he's my everything. Like that man doesn't even know
- 12:47like that. I would literally just like I
- 12:51would sit there and do anything he asked at this point.
- 12:54Yeah, I mean, Jimmy was my Jimmy was my gateway, and he has
- 12:57obviously stayed one of my biases.
- 12:59And then Nam Chen came and I'm thinking late ish actually, like
- 13:03not like, I want to say like it was further into 2020.
- 13:07I think it was around when I was like, really, because I went
- 13:09like chronological kind of starting with I kind of went,
- 13:12you know, it was like love yourself forward.
- 13:13And then I went back and then I kind of listened up to this.
- 13:16I went like a weird circular thing.
- 13:17And then it and then I started doing the soda project.
- 13:19And as soon as I started delving into mono, that was like, oh,
- 13:23this man is is this man is for me, this man is perfection.
- 13:26And this man is like speaking to my soul.
- 13:28I was like, yeah, absolutely damn right.
- 13:31So yeah, it's just yeah. And I love the lower dynamic
- 13:34together. So actually it just, it felt
- 13:35like it fits so nicely. I feel like too, like when I'm
- 13:39thinking about when I got into BTS and I think of this
- 13:41comeback, I think that this is my actual first official
- 13:45comeback. Like because I don't look at
- 13:48like the Anthology album as a comeback.
- 13:52I for me, for me, it was just like an album they released in
- 13:56between. Yes, there were new songs, but
- 13:59this for me is my actual official comeback because I came
- 14:02in the middle of the pandemic. Like, it's at the end of like
- 14:06butter, basically. I was in butter, but like, I had
- 14:10found Dynamite and that was the song I had locked into from
- 14:13their English stuff, even though Paul had been telling me about
- 14:16them. So this comeback is actually my
- 14:19first one. That's like all the promo and
- 14:21stuff, which is wild to me to think about, Yeah.
- 14:25And I guess like, yeah, I guess thinking about it like it kind
- 14:27of in a weird way, sort of, I don't know, like, because I we
- 14:30did get like I did get like the fullness of the Mod 7 comeback
- 14:35in the run up to it. But obviously the unpredictable
- 14:37factor was the album comes out, you have the celebration, then
- 14:41it's like going to be the extenuation of the comeback and
- 14:43then the tour. And then COVID hit.
- 14:45Like the week that we went into lockdown in the UK was the week
- 14:48I was readying to get my Mod 7 ticket.
- 14:50So I was like, it was fully in and then it was just completely
- 14:54upended. So even, you know, we got like
- 14:56dynamite and butter and like PTD and like you said, proof and
- 14:59everything like that. And those were kind of
- 15:00comebacks. And obviously all the solo
- 15:02projects, like the first Yeah, like the full, I want to say
- 15:05like unbridled uninterrupted comeback has been this.
- 15:09And I think that's what feels so special to everyone because
- 15:12it's, it's them in their most free form where they haven't got
- 15:16the worry of pandemic, of things being cancelled, of having to
- 15:19rearrange plans, but also the looming military service of
- 15:24whatever we start. We're going to have to somehow
- 15:26cut, cut off at some point because we have to go to the
- 15:28military. Well, they don't have that
- 15:29anymore. They are, they can, they can
- 15:31look forward to the next few years and lay down plans for the
- 15:34long term. And it's just, oh, I'm so
- 15:35excited for them and myself as well.
- 15:38And all of us, I'm just excited. Yeah.
- 15:40So I feel like this is our comeback.
- 15:42Yeah, I mean, I know it it is the comeback, but also too let's
- 15:46not forget it. I know it's during, you know,
- 15:48looming military pandemic, all that.
- 15:50Let's also not forget BI feel like a lot of people still
- 15:53forget B. And I'm going to mention that
- 15:55when we start talking about the documentary on some things.
- 15:59But yeah. No, and I wish I wish I had been
- 16:02with B like I came in right after all that like promo was
- 16:06done. The only thing that they were
- 16:08doing was when I came in was like butter.
- 16:10Like all I heard was butter everywhere and I'm like, no,
- 16:13you're right. People do forget about BB came
- 16:16before butter. Yes, yeah, OK, butter, butter
- 16:19was 20/20/20 and then yeah, B was yeah, butter was 2021.
- 16:24But yeah, you're right. But to be honest, the reason why
- 16:26I even like missed out butter is because to be I'm not even
- 16:28butter B too many BS I I like just because pandemic locked
- 16:34down, I scrubbed a lot of 2020 from my brain like it's still
- 16:38really hard for me to report. And I think that's the case for
- 16:40a lot of people. And like it was, but actually, I
- 16:43think like when you look at B and the direction they took that
- 16:46like the self produced direction and how they sort of did things
- 16:49a bit differently. I remember with, with B with the
- 16:51comeback, that was the first time that we didn't get a
- 16:52comeback map. And that was something that we'd
- 16:55been used to. I'd heard of being, you know, we
- 16:57got it for MOT 7 and we got it for the, the other rollouts of
- 17:00things that happened then. And then all of a sudden it felt
- 17:02like we were like naked and afraid because we didn't have
- 17:06anything like that. And then look what we've got
- 17:08for, for, for Ararang. We we had nothing either.
- 17:11So almost like there's certain that I think they were planting
- 17:14and experimenting with him, B, that I think we've seen come to
- 17:17fruition here, which is just, yes, I don't think you could
- 17:20have had one without the other. But I will say too, what was
- 17:22different with BI think it's because they couldn't do a lot
- 17:25of like promotions and because of lockdown, they kind of like
- 17:28with this new one right now with audio wrong.
- 17:30They did a lot of like, you know, behind the scene things
- 17:32they were going on, like YouTube Live, which was their first.
- 17:36Like almost all the time, you know, they were sharing, like
- 17:39behind the scene. That's when Hobie accidentally
- 17:41spoiled disease. Yeah.
- 17:43When he was on YouTube live not realizing we could hear it.
- 17:48Yeah, that man, I'm sorry. He just unintentionally
- 17:50sometimes just brings out the memes because like I, I could
- 17:54clearly remember, I don't even have to watch it, but I can
- 17:56remember when like one of the staff like was knocking on his
- 17:59door profusely. He had to go to the door.
- 18:02He just kept going like we're just going back to the show.
- 18:04He's like, oh shit, oh shit. He's like, we're just going to
- 18:06pretend nothing happened, guys. Yeah, it's, oh, God bless them.
- 18:10Yeah, they did. They tried, they experimented.
- 18:13I remember they did that like, yeah, you had a lot of them
- 18:15doing like crafts and yeah. And they all tried differently.
- 18:18Yeah. We got some very iconic lives
- 18:19coming out of like the pandemic, which is lovely.
- 18:22So lovely of them. But yeah, it was yeah,
- 18:24definitely feel very grateful for like how much they did for
- 18:26us. But yeah, that was hilarious.
- 18:29Obigious to it had it would be home be wouldn't it?
- 18:31It would be him and just. I love that man to bits.
- 18:35He's just so great. I know me too.
- 18:36But yes, I do understand your point of like people probably
- 18:39forget it because we all try to just erase that time.
- 18:42Like I I don't know, I just feel like I lost some lives.
- 18:46I feel like I never grew up from when we went into the pandemic,
- 18:48which I was 23. So I feel like I'm always stuck
- 18:51to be like, mentally 23. Yeah.
- 18:54Yeah. So enough of that, though, let's
- 18:55get back to some exciting things.
- 18:57Let's talk about the comeback live that happened on March
- 19:0121st. So the day after this was
- 19:04actually live in Seoul right after the actual album dropped.
- 19:08And I cannot pronounce I have not been studying my career in a
- 19:12while. So it was in the Guang Han Moon
- 19:16Square, which is actually a very, like, busy area, very
- 19:21heavily, like, populated with like, not only tourist sites,
- 19:24but just I guess, like, I would think of it like the Times
- 19:27Square. I was told of New York.
- 19:29That's how that area is like. Yeah, yes.
- 19:31So I do know they have ran into like, you know, some issues when
- 19:36it came to like, you know, blocking off that whole area for
- 19:39this, the amount of people I'm not sure if they were expecting
- 19:43to happen and then regular people who don't really care
- 19:46about BTS, like, you know, how trying to remove maneuver around
- 19:49all that. So I mean, at the end, I think
- 19:51it worked out. It seemed pretty civil.
- 19:55I heard that they did a pretty good job, like cleaning up right
- 19:57afterwards. And thankfully to Army that was
- 20:00there didn't trash the place. So it made it easier for them.
- 20:04So it all worked out guys. It all worked.
- 20:06Out. I know, I know some people are
- 20:07probably like you don't understand or whatever.
- 20:09It's fine. I wasn't.
- 20:10Yeah, but there's there's always, I think that side of
- 20:13things where like you have the people that aren't interested
- 20:14and they are like prioritizing, I've got to go to work.
- 20:17This is causing a massive traffic jam.
- 20:18This is really difficult. It's really inconvenient to me.
- 20:20But then I also think, I think for the most part and, and
- 20:23again, like I think the relationship of South Korea to
- 20:25BTS has changed a lot over the years because I think they are
- 20:28still very much a point of national pride.
- 20:30And so I think for the most part, people didn't mind it.
- 20:34And I think is ultimately like, even when they were doing those
- 20:36big zoom out to like where even when we wanted to see them maybe
- 20:40perform those massive zoom outs to the whole square and just how
- 20:43much space they took up and these massive screens.
- 20:45I think it was just one of the things it was like saying like a
- 20:47lot of things, it's like, yeah, you're inconvenienced for a few
- 20:49days, but look at look at the the scale and the scope and the
- 20:53the everything with this. So this is not, this is not your
- 20:56typical event. This is not just shutting
- 20:58something off to be inconvenient for something minor.
- 21:00This is like, this is there is a very significant event.
- 21:03And you know, I just, yeah, some people obviously might have been
- 21:06there being like, I don't care about BTS.
- 21:07This is really annoying for me. But I think for those that had
- 21:09some inkling of BTS's impact and how much this meant to a lot of
- 21:13people, hopefully they were just, I have seen people being
- 21:15like, it's fine, I'll get over it for a week.
- 21:18But no, it was, it was so, so good, right?
- 21:21Also, Shannon had brought up a really good point about, you
- 21:24know, showing off the crowd and the buildings because if you
- 21:27first watch this, like if you watched it live and I think the
- 21:30replay like right afterwards, it's very, very different than
- 21:35what's on Netflix now. I've watched this three times
- 21:38and all three times I've watched it, it's been edited so much.
- 21:41This last time is a lot better when I watched it last night.
- 21:44So they do focus on the guys more focus on the dances.
- 21:48They've add some like things that weren't there before.
- 21:51So yeah, because I know that was like a huge complaint from a lot
- 21:54of people, like watching it, especially fans.
- 21:56It's like, why are you showing me the crowds reaction and the
- 21:59building? What is it?
- 22:00It was like some type of hotel. It was like Korean and hotel.
- 22:04Yes, now I know where that building is.
- 22:08Maybe I'll go visit if I have a chance.
- 22:10Yeah, people have watched that as well.
- 22:12People have memed it to be like, like wherever you are, I'll be
- 22:14there. I'll be there.
- 22:15I'll be there. It's just, yeah, It's just, it
- 22:16was every time it zoomed out, I was like, there it is again.
- 22:19Exactly. Yeah, but to be honest, I I kind
- 22:22of didn't expect anything other than that because I know from
- 22:24when I've done stuff in my job like it is like it's it's a part
- 22:29of like do we have the shots set up in time?
- 22:31So and you see it all the time. Like they'd rather film the
- 22:34crowd and film like a wide shot. They definitely have something
- 22:37to fill the space without just like a cameraman's just running
- 22:40around and so it doesn't look a bit sloppy.
- 22:42So I think it's like, you know, it's a few seconds and it does
- 22:44take away from their performance.
- 22:45But also like it was nice that once they knew that they had
- 22:48that footage that they put together something much nicer
- 22:51for rewatch value. But then I also think like, I've
- 22:53got friends that I knew that didn't watch that.
- 22:56Like they watched it not live live, but they kind of watched
- 22:58that in between stream. And even though, like, for us,
- 23:01we wanted to watch them perform and we weren't really bothered
- 23:03about the crowd for people outside of the fandom, they were
- 23:07like, I've got a few, a few people said to me like, oh, when
- 23:10they panned out, it just reminded you this is insane.
- 23:13And this is their impact. So actually, even like those
- 23:15wide shots, they did serve a purpose in a way, which I
- 23:18thought was, you know, Silver Linings and all.
- 23:20But yeah, I much prefer, I much prefer the cleaned upstream
- 23:23because we get to see them just owning that stage and just being
- 23:27fine as hell. Listen, I.
- 23:30Think too that like it reminds me a lot of when they shoot
- 23:35festival footage performances. They pan out a lot as I know for
- 23:40hope We palooza because I've watched that a million times.
- 23:43Like the panning out I think is just a way for them to show like
- 23:47how big of a deal. Yeah.
- 23:49This, this is and the impact. And I think we're never going to
- 23:53get away from it. I think it's a good reminder,
- 23:56though. Like, I don't like that they
- 23:58take a lot. I'm glad they edited it down.
- 24:00I haven't watched. I watched it a few times, but I
- 24:02haven't watched it, like recently, like the performance.
- 24:06And I would be curious to see how they did change it up with
- 24:09the performances because I think too, with BTS specifically,
- 24:13they're dancers. And so people don't want to miss
- 24:17one of the best parts of the show, which is watching the
- 24:19seven of them dance. Yeah.
- 24:22So I think that's one thing that if they're going to film more
- 24:26things like this, that they're going to have to remember that
- 24:29most K pop groups, because I've seen this with numerous groups
- 24:32too, you gotta remember they dance.
- 24:34And so you have to like, film that a lot.
- 24:38Yeah, I can remember that was one of the things that people
- 24:40were talking about around the same time as like the
- 24:42inconvenience of them setting up was the fact that this was going
- 24:45to be on Netflix. And you couldn't, you know, for
- 24:47people that you were in South Korea or the people even
- 24:49internationally, you couldn't tune into live television for
- 24:52free, you know, to watch to brought to the broadcast of it,
- 24:55which kind of not. I know some people said that
- 24:57they didn't want to pay for a Netflix subscription just to
- 24:59watch it, that, you know, OK, each to their own.
- 25:02But then I also think that there was the argument that could
- 25:05Netflix being this big kind of, you know, obviously Netflix has
- 25:08got offices all around the world and teams all around the world.
- 25:10But this was the first time of them not just doing a live a
- 25:13live cable looking like a like a Korean music event, like you
- 25:16said, with the dancing and the whole big performance thing.
- 25:18But it was their first ever live music event they've ever done
- 25:20before, because that's what they're sort of spending a lot
- 25:23on these live events trying to get people tuning in.
- 25:25So I'm trying to compete with YouTube in that sense has always
- 25:27had a lot of the the monopoly on ongoing live and our tick tock
- 25:31as well, obviously for like live streaming.
- 25:33So it was an experiment for them and I was, I was interested to
- 25:36see actually, would they be able to focus in on the most
- 25:39important bits where it is so frenetic.
- 25:41There is so much going on on a stage at once, like, and now
- 25:44those transitions from one member to another and like, and
- 25:46I think they actually did a really good job because people
- 25:48were saying, Oh, I don't know if I they can do a good job because
- 25:51at the very least with the Korean broadcasters, you know,
- 25:53they're so used to doing the music shows and filming, you
- 25:57know, K pop groups, There was never any doubt that they would
- 25:59know how to set up the camera rigs and how to focus on.
- 26:02Like I remember when they've had performances in the US and also
- 26:05in the UK, like they don't know how to move that camera fast
- 26:08enough to keep up with the members.
- 26:09And this actually, I think on the whole, I think did a really
- 26:12good job at like giving you the full scale of the event while
- 26:16also showing just how amazingly choreographed the whole thing
- 26:21was. And I think it just, yeah, I've
- 26:22just heard from so many people that have never watched anything
- 26:25like that before that tuned in just out of pure curiosity.
- 26:28They were like, that took a lot of planning.
- 26:30And particularly because it was out in the open.
- 26:32It's not like they could get up on that stage and and rehearsed
- 26:35that would have spoiled everything.
- 26:37So that was really that was taking a risk of being able to
- 26:40pull it off, having done it, you know, behind closed doors.
- 26:43So I thought they just did a phenomenal effort and yeah,
- 26:45props Netflix. I think for the most part, I
- 26:47think I heard the stream held really strongly and it did.
- 26:49It went off about hitch so. Not lit.
- 26:52Bros it was crystal clear and I was so shocked.
- 26:55I kept expecting it like OK, when's it going to crash?
- 26:58I'm also traumatized for when they did the free concert in
- 27:01Busan. I got my job and I got run BTS
- 27:05and I was spending so much finding links to watch this
- 27:10thing. It was.
- 27:11A microwave they filmed it on, I swear to God.
- 27:15It was like the, it was like we knew there was going to be run
- 27:17BTS choreo. We heard those first notes.
- 27:20I'm like, Oh my God, I was like, no.
- 27:23No, I was so mad. Yeah.
- 27:25So we all had that universal experience.
- 27:27So, you know, it was a bonding experience for us of just like
- 27:29being like, where's the stream? I need it.
- 27:31Yeah. And then it was, I think it was
- 27:33mostly over by the time. But you know, and then the
- 27:35straight after, soon as they put that replay up, that's where we
- 27:38went. Exactly, exactly.
- 27:40But yes, when you get a chance to rewatch Aegeta, there's a lot
- 27:43more things can't wait. A lot less of the crowds and
- 27:46buildings, the voice and the music.
- 27:48Like it's also a lot clearer. I feel like I can hear BTSA lot
- 27:52more clear in this new version that they put out then the past
- 27:56two and even like with body to body, I put an example, the
- 28:00Korean women that they have like singing the Adi Dong part, like
- 28:03I actually hear them a lot more. I feel like yes because I felt
- 28:06like I could barely hear them the first time so.
- 28:09Yeah, obviously they did this little sound engineering touch
- 28:12up as well, which was which was very good of them.
- 28:14Yes. So I am glad that they did that.
- 28:16But yes, Speaking of that, that is actually the first song that
- 28:19they opened with, which was Body's Body, which again, just
- 28:23saw all of them. I had put a link, I always put
- 28:26like links for references about the costume design.
- 28:30I was going to like talk about it, but I didn't have enough
- 28:32time and I can't access the link anymore.
- 28:34So if you're able to, to read the inspiration about their
- 28:38costume, if you can. So I know it's like based off,
- 28:40you know, Korean history, because even when I was looking
- 28:43at Taya, like his shirt kind of looks like some type of like
- 28:45armor. I think that's one of the
- 28:47inspirations. So yes, that's there.
- 28:50You can find the designer of their costumes.
- 28:52I don't know if either of you know a little bit more than I do
- 28:56of like the inspiration of them. I know it was based on like
- 28:59certain like archetypes. I don't know if it was like
- 29:02heroic archetype, definitely like was quite.
- 29:04It was it was very much like a commemoration of like something.
- 29:07It was very Korean it. So I think like there was I knew
- 29:10someone was a philosopher. I think June might have been the
- 29:13philosopher and I think that Jimin might have been the poet.
- 29:16And I think, yeah, I think Tay with his armor might have been
- 29:18the warrior. But they all kind of embodied
- 29:20like like certain kind of ideals, which I thought was just
- 29:23such a really cool way because like, it was so like, I think it
- 29:25was, I think like when you look at like the costuming being so
- 29:28well done, I think it was so you can kind of look at the way the
- 29:31costuming was done as a real reflection of like the wider
- 29:33symbols and the themes of this album, which is rooted in
- 29:37Korean. Like there's that Korean root in
- 29:39it, but it's also modern, it's new, it's fresh, it's their
- 29:42interpretation of it. So just as you've got these like
- 29:44ancient, you know, like these old Korean patterns and symbols
- 29:47and like ways of cutting fabric, it's also just trendy and new.
- 29:51And that just honestly is that's just BTS in a nutshell in my
- 29:54eye. Like.
- 29:55I loved all their costuming and then the women I know they put
- 29:59in the with the red which I thought was stunning.
- 30:02I know that was a little controversial too, as far as
- 30:04like, you know, how much red there was being spread around
- 30:07because like red is part of one of the political parties.
- 30:09So like they had to keep clearing up.
- 30:11Like this is just the theme of the album.
- 30:13We are not promoting any political side or party or
- 30:16anything like that, which I. Understand of flowers.
- 30:19Honestly, it's like how they were dressed.
- 30:21They looked like flowers to me, like something beautiful.
- 30:24You know what I'm saying? That brought hope because when
- 30:27you were listening to them sing the quarrel, like how it sounded
- 30:31like a choir, it was so powerful.
- 30:33It wasn't to me. It was just like so beautiful.
- 30:36It's like you were standing in a Meadow, almost like listening to
- 30:40them sing this song that like means so much like to their
- 30:44country. I just, I don't know.
- 30:47I oh, I love that. I just love that opening.
- 30:50It was such a solid opening song.
- 30:53Yeah. And I do wish they showed all
- 30:54five of them because there's five women singing.
- 30:57But they only zoomed in even in this new edit, like to the
- 30:59three. But I feel like if I remember
- 31:02correctly from K Pop Demon Hunters, I'm not going to go too
- 31:05much into detail, but when I was doing research on that, there's
- 31:08a significance of why there's five of them.
- 31:10Like in the movie, they kind of switched from like the three to
- 31:13five. I just don't remember right now.
- 31:16And that's not the main topic. I just wish all the women were
- 31:19shown as well as like the people behind them sitting around
- 31:21playing like the Korean instruments.
- 31:23I thought that was, you know, cool too.
- 31:25You kind of have to like actually be paying attention to
- 31:26see them as well. But yes.
- 31:28So we open with body to body. And then we moved on to
- 31:32Hooligan, which as much as I've listened to this album, is
- 31:35starting to become like my top three.
- 31:36Honestly, it might be #1 at this point.
- 31:38The part they did change though, for like, if you watched it like
- 31:42live live to this new version, they didn't play like the intro.
- 31:46If you've heard the song, they didn't play the intro music when
- 31:48Jin was walking by and put on that the fucking mask.
- 31:53Remember when we watched it Gina like they had it was silent when
- 31:56he first was walking through with the audience cheering.
- 31:59Now they actually have the music introing him.
- 32:01So that's where they edit it and then put on the mask.
- 32:04And then once you hear like the knives, that's when they like I
- 32:07think they do a pan from above to Hobie and the dancer.
- 32:10So they did change that part. If the actor hits do OK, he was
- 32:15acting. I remember the first time
- 32:17watching that. I was like, Oh my God, Jen, what
- 32:19is he doing? What is he putting on?
- 32:21I was like, is that a mask? So cute.
- 32:25I will laugh every time I see him in that mask because it's
- 32:27just like, oh, you're too innocent for this.
- 32:29Like in the eyes. I'm sorry.
- 32:32Yeah, I do, I do. I do fear the fitting of that
- 32:35was not quite right and just he's got a longer face, the
- 32:40costumes got a longer face than that.
- 32:41It was just a bless. I mean, it wouldn't.
- 32:43It's just iconic. Everything even even if people
- 32:45call it a mistake or a bloody, it's just iconic.
- 32:48And like he's just there and then like them laughing
- 32:51afterwards, like behind the scenes about it and then
- 32:53catching the little clips of them.
- 32:55Jim just like being like, oh, is he wouldn't like, it's just,
- 32:58yeah, like so endearing. But if they continue doing that,
- 33:01like throughout the tour, I kind of hope they switch out the
- 33:03members. Wouldn't that be funny?
- 33:05Like if they do that for the intro, I want each member doing
- 33:08something different, you know? I would love that.
- 33:11I think they should just now let it be a meme just like they do,
- 33:15you know, with Jim and making him a meme meme during a song.
- 33:19Like please, I want that to be a thing.
- 33:22Also in this performance, the way like Yungi towards the end
- 33:25of his verse, like when he does this like face off when he's
- 33:28rapping to the dancer, listen, that does something to be OK.
- 33:31I had to replay that part too many times.
- 33:33I'm like, Sir, yeah. Good.
- 33:37I don't know why. That song makes them a little
- 33:40feral, I think. Yeah.
- 33:42Like when they hear that music and the laughing, I feel like it
- 33:46just does something to them. They channel that energy, I
- 33:49swear. Yeah, who look and I just felt
- 33:51like in terms of like production and then just the things they
- 33:53played around with on that, like obviously you had the knives
- 33:55then you had to like play it just.
- 33:58You did that really well, Shannon, practicing right?
- 34:03Yeah, that was just them because I thought that was just them
- 34:05goofing. I mean, as we know from the
- 34:07Spotify event that was that was Chung Yuk's idea to do that.
- 34:10And then the other, I think they were just be like, God damn it
- 34:14younger because it's quite a lot to deal with.
- 34:15So, but they do it. They do it very well.
- 34:18And now it's iconic. It's the most iconic part of
- 34:20that song. Like, I wait for the laugh.
- 34:22I remember when I first heard that, I was like, oh, maybe I'm
- 34:24the one who thought it was like, sexy.
- 34:26I'm sorry, listen. No, definitely no.
- 34:30Yeah. And who has grown on me?
- 34:31Like it was one of, I think a few people said this as well,
- 34:34that like at some point, like having headphones and you're
- 34:36like, oh, it's a bit, is it a bit gracing with kind of the
- 34:38knives? But honestly, like you listen
- 34:39enough and it just blends in. Like you just, you don't, you
- 34:42just get. So you just adjust to it.
- 34:44And I think that, yeah, you just, I look forward to looking
- 34:46every single time, which is pretty great because it's just,
- 34:49yeah. And some of the things they're
- 34:50saying in that track, I mean, yeah, speak, preach, for sure.
- 34:56I must listen. I like the knives.
- 34:58At the first listen I was just like, yes, slice me open, OK?
- 35:04Yeah, I mean, I like I liked it because it was different.
- 35:07And I think with a lot of things with this album, even if you're
- 35:09like, oh, I'm not like you might have a personal preference, like
- 35:12to not enjoy listening it over and over.
- 35:14But as with a lot of things, I will always love and respect
- 35:17that they're trying new things and that they're not keeping the
- 35:19same the same old, same old. Like that was daring.
- 35:21It's the second song in like you said, you went you go from you
- 35:24go from like this traditional Korean like out of line track
- 35:26Chan straight into that. And you're like, right.
- 35:29We're in it like we're, you know, we go from having like
- 35:31that softness and that kind of legacy to straight into the, you
- 35:34know, the heavy Part 1, heavy hip hop Part 1.
- 35:37And it's just yeah, it's just those those tracks from Hooligan
- 35:41onwards lined up is a right. And I enjoyed every every second
- 35:46of it. Exactly.
- 35:47Well. Another, I don't know if I
- 35:50should say controversial again, when I talk about like the
- 35:52actual album and the breakdown, I'm me and Lala and our other
- 35:55special guests. We will discuss this, but we
- 35:58have 2.0, my favorite like choreography out of this whole
- 36:03entire thing. And like for the people who were
- 36:05talking about like, oh, this is lazy.
- 36:07They've really slacked off. I'm like, do you understand how
- 36:09technical this dance is? Like I feel like I'm watching
- 36:14like on a ballerina like or a ballet type thing.
- 36:17Like, it's technical where you have to make sure like your feet
- 36:19either pointed at a certain angle, you have to make sure
- 36:22your lines are straight the way they're like hitting every
- 36:24single beat in certain parts of the song.
- 36:27Like y'all don't understand how like technical this is.
- 36:30If you're sloppy in any way and not hitting those sharp mute
- 36:33like sharp moves, it looks a mess.
- 36:36Yeah. It's like the whole thing from
- 36:37like the choreo to the to actually what they what the
- 36:39track is saying is them flexing like that.
- 36:42I think is that I'm being, I mean, from what I remember from
- 36:45right, just searching the lyrics and again, like I just yeah, is
- 36:49I mean, offensively, like someone pointed this out to me.
- 36:51I think it was when I watched the actual Jimmy Fallon
- 36:52performance of 2.0 when they were saying that at the
- 36:55beginning, they're like dusting themselves off in the choreo.
- 36:57They're like stretching their muscles and getting ready.
- 37:00They're doing that like pretend like getting ready and they
- 37:02launch into this very tight. Like you're saying, like you're
- 37:05saying it's like sharp have to hit every beat kind of choreo.
- 37:08And like that is them being like a match with the lyric, them
- 37:11being like, I think there's a line where it's like you've
- 37:13thought that you could fall over us.
- 37:14Like, you know, you've had your fun.
- 37:16We're back now. We're here about to take what's
- 37:18ours like. It's just it's just that that is
- 37:21them 100% flaunting their scales and saying like you had your
- 37:26shot trying to trying to usurp us.
- 37:28You failed. Now you know ain't got shot.
- 37:30You ain't got chance in hell now.
- 37:32So yeah, I. Think it's funny for me because
- 37:35you know, listening to it is not as ripping to me.
- 37:41But when I saw the performance from this live, I really love
- 37:47it. I love it perform.
- 37:49I love watching the intricacies of their body movements because
- 37:54there are points when their legs and arms are moving specifically
- 37:59at some point. And it's like, what do you watch
- 38:02at that point because there's so much going on.
- 38:04But I think it's I think the choreo is some of the best that
- 38:08they've done in a while. Like, I think that to watch this
- 38:13performance is so good. Like, I look forward to seeing
- 38:18it live because they made me more excited for it.
- 38:22Yeah. Because they just, they just
- 38:24move so easily. It's like water.
- 38:26It's just like, how do you get your body to listen to your
- 38:29brain like that and sing at the same time?
- 38:32I could never. Yeah, I just.
- 38:34Barely walk and talk half the time.
- 38:37Yeah. And it's like, yeah.
- 38:39And I think in that one that the hip hop infants, because we knew
- 38:41they were doing having, they were all having like hip hop
- 38:43dance lessons before. And like, I think you can see
- 38:46that really pay off like is about the tightness.
- 38:48They're like, get the power of those movements, like the amount
- 38:50of energy that they're spending just like hit making it look it
- 38:53look. And I know I remember like right
- 38:55when I was getting into like K pop choreo and like learning
- 38:57about it, like they were saying that some of the some of the
- 38:59hardest choreos to do in terms of like technicality that any
- 39:03professional dancer will tell you are the ones that look
- 39:05really easy. But they actually the amount of
- 39:07control you need in your body to make it look effortless is
- 39:11extreme. Like you are like you are like
- 39:12pulling muscles trying to make it look like your body is like
- 39:15moving like butter. Like it's not really about
- 39:17dexterity. It's about power and control of
- 39:20your body and being so in touch of your body to be able to even
- 39:23like the slightest inch to make sure that you do that move just
- 39:26right is just they're just they're just phenomenal.
- 39:28And there have been so there have been some stellar gym in
- 39:32fat gym in fan cams that have come off of the 2.0 performance.
- 39:35Like they've gone mega viral. People going who is this?
- 39:37Like it's the gym in effect, but it's also that Corey's effect.
- 39:40It's just so good. Exactly, and I am curious I
- 39:43forgot to mention this before we started.
- 39:46In this whole live thing, Namjoom is not dancing, he
- 39:49actually hurt himself. I don't know if it was the day
- 39:51before the album release. I know they released the
- 39:54announcement like the day the album came out.
- 39:57So it was either like the day before or a few days before.
- 40:00It was the day before. Because when he was on Weavers,
- 40:03he said yesterday I hurt myself. So that was the day before the
- 40:07album release. OK, so yes, he's not dancing and
- 40:11you'll see him in a boot as well.
- 40:12I'm curious of what he will look like with this choreography when
- 40:16he's able to dance again. Because like I my favorite part
- 40:18is like his like one of the last verses when he does the pop pop
- 40:22pop. And then like they kind of do
- 40:23like this weird spin thing to his pop.
- 40:25It's so satisfying to watch. I'm I'm just curious of like
- 40:29where he is in that whole part when he actually is able to
- 40:33dance. But that part, I replayed that
- 40:35part. I think I almost broke my TV.
- 40:37I'm not going to lie. It's so satisfying, I don't know
- 40:40what it is about it. Yeah, but yeah, no, he's so
- 40:43yeah, bless, bless him in his little moon Boo.
- 40:45I think he yeah, just got a little bit too excited I think
- 40:49too and just but I think you know already he's done because
- 40:53he did with Jimmy Fallon. He did do the he did the swim
- 40:56Corey out. So he didn't do two-part out
- 40:58because I think that was like I was saying probably a little bit
- 41:00too much yeah, exertion on the body.
- 41:02But I mean he got those body he nailed those body roles in in
- 41:06swim. So he's.
- 41:08Yeah, he is. He's getting better.
- 41:09And I also didn't realize, as you see it more, I think it's
- 41:12because I've also seen fan cams and behind the scenes.
- 41:14I didn't realize for him, like he couldn't walk on the catwalk
- 41:17to go from the mainstage to the mini stage.
- 41:19They had to take him like off the stage, kind of circle him
- 41:23around in order to get back and forth, which I felt so bad.
- 41:26And his little 22 crutches. Yeah.
- 41:30I was like, oh God, it's OK. He seems to be getting better,
- 41:34so we'll see in the next two weeks when the actual tours
- 41:37start. What he's able to do, Yeah.
- 41:39I can just imagine him just like soon as any new performance.
- 41:42So he's like hoisting that leg up in bed.
- 41:44He's like heal. He's willing it to heal.
- 41:47He's like, I want to get back on it.
- 41:48I've got stuff to do. Like he's just, like speeding
- 41:51along just doing all he needs to do just.
- 41:54Yeah, just manifesting A heeled leg so that he's just good.
- 41:58And then he's probably going to get so excited and he's going to
- 42:01jump back into it and hurt himself again.
- 42:03He better. Not.
- 42:04Don't do that, Shannon. Don't put that out of the
- 42:06universe. I need my man to be OK.
- 42:08Listen, we're trying to pray for less injuries during this tour
- 42:12as possible. We have dates all the way until
- 42:142027 right now. True, true.
- 42:17I mean, he's maybe it'll be like a kind of an equal exchange.
- 42:20He might help. His body will stay intact, but
- 42:22he will break his phone and I will I think his phone can be
- 42:25seen first because that's that's just Namjin for you.
- 42:27So we'll see how that that that can be a tally that I think we
- 42:30can keep. How many phones will Namjin go
- 42:32through this or there's? Some glasses like pair of
- 42:36sunglasses will he fling across the stage by accident?
- 42:39Yeah. I would rather him break or RIP
- 42:42a costume than keep hindering his body.
- 42:45Oh, I mean, he could RIP a costume all day.
- 42:47OK, I'm fine with that. Yeah, strategically do it on
- 42:51purpose, not just. Oh God, I guess don't go back
- 42:55too much into the roots. OK, Anyway, so we're going to
- 42:59move on. So after two point on 2 point on
- 43:032 point O, they, you know, stopped doing a little
- 43:07introduction, basically mentioning that they're back
- 43:09after four years. I thought it was really sweet.
- 43:12Jen talked about, you know, last time they performed was in Busan
- 43:15and like he vividly remembers telling everyone to wait for
- 43:17them and that he was thankful, you know, that you guys waited.
- 43:21They also talked about how it was an honor to perform in the
- 43:23square, especially during our due to its historical, you know,
- 43:28significance as well as the historical significance with the
- 43:31album. And yeah, they're just very
- 43:33grateful and thankful for ARMY to be there and watching them
- 43:36because, you know, they still have a fear that they've been
- 43:39gone so long that no one was going to show up for them.
- 43:42And then I guess to celebrate moving on to the next song, they
- 43:45gave us Butter, which I'm sorry, Jimin, why did you lie to us
- 43:48saying that this was one of Army's favorites?
- 43:51Who? Who are you talking to?
- 43:52Where are the armies? I mean, I know they're out
- 43:54there. I'm not judging you if butter is
- 43:56your favorite. But let's slow down now.
- 44:00I mean, I I do love, I do really like butter.
- 44:02It's my favorite of the English trio, like by by quite a
- 44:05stretch. But it is we have we've seen
- 44:08that a lot and they performed a lot.
- 44:11So I think, you know, in the same, in the same way, you know,
- 44:14when they crop up, a lot of people join the fandom, they're
- 44:17gonna they're gonna do them some of the most their most popular
- 44:19tracks. Yeah, I mean, but I mean the
- 44:21core, the core is good. The core is smooth out, you
- 44:23know, smooth out butter on purpose.
- 44:26So I. Yeah, me and Gina's favorite is
- 44:29dynamite, and I personally, I it's been long enough.
- 44:32I don't care. I pretend permission to dance
- 44:33doesn't exist. That is one song I will out loud
- 44:36so I do not like. I'm sorry, like I think it's, I
- 44:40think as time's gone on, we've all, we've all felt in a safe
- 44:44enough environment to say as has, as have BTS.
- 44:48Listen. That track just was.
- 44:51It was. It wasn't quite there, the file.
- 44:54Was lost. I wouldn't be sad if the file
- 44:58got lost and it fell off of all streaming.
- 45:01I wouldn't be sad. Be like permission to dance?
- 45:05What's that? Maybe it was just a nice, you
- 45:07know, name they made their tour. It's like our paradise.
- 45:11OK JK forgets paradise exists which is wild.
- 45:14No, don't do that to Queen Paradise.
- 45:16Hold on now. Actually, no, I will not accept
- 45:19that. Listen.
- 45:20Comparing it to Paradise. Listen.
- 45:23I'm about to send you to a corner, Gina.
- 45:25You forgot it existed. I want to forget OK.
- 45:28But that's just because they don't remember things.
- 45:30They have minds of like goldfish.
- 45:33They have two songs. That's a good song to forget.
- 45:35Permission to dance is not a good song to forget.
- 45:37Yeah. Yeah, I think, I think
- 45:40permission to dance to me is an expression of just how polite
- 45:44and professional BTSR because Ed Sheeran came to them and said,
- 45:48hey, guys, I wrote you a song and they went, thanks, let's
- 45:52perform it. And that's and they they
- 45:55couldn't say no, just gentlemen for and for.
- 45:57However, yes, let let her, let her.
- 46:01But I could. Say if they want to bring butter
- 46:03with Megan the stallion out more, I'll take that.
- 46:07I would be OK with that. They could play and bring her
- 46:11out every so often, like to certain stops.
- 46:14If they want to put butter in, please bring bring her.
- 46:17Although I'm just going to put it out there, if Megan appears
- 46:20on any stage in any, any point in this, I, I, there's one,
- 46:25there's a track that I need them to perform.
- 46:27I know and. It's not butter.
- 46:29It is never play. I know you're going to say that
- 46:32I need it. I need it.
- 46:34Listen. Could.
- 46:35I be in Texas. Yeah, I would.
- 46:38Let me in. Texas.
- 46:39Damn it, I should have went to Texas.
- 46:41I think if she's going to show up anywhere, it's Texas.
- 46:44It would be. Texas.
- 46:46Because I think, didn't she show up at Cardi's in Texas?
- 46:49Yeah, he did, I think. Damn it, I should have went to
- 46:51Texas because I I cried when I wasn't there the weekend she
- 46:55appeared when they did butter together.
- 46:57I know I got Coldplay. I'm not listen, I'm not a big
- 47:00Coldplay fan. No, no hate to Chris Martin.
- 47:02I I literally was like I was so distraught that I missed her by
- 47:07a weekend. My friend Anne, who I'm going to
- 47:11see, we go to MetLife with, she saw Megan, she was there the
- 47:16night Meg was there and she said it was one of the most wild
- 47:18experiences. She said the crowd was insane.
- 47:22So I do feel like if they're going to perform with her or you
- 47:26know, Nam June is going to bring Sweet Lady up to do the song
- 47:30they never got to do, I think it will be Texas.
- 47:33Please, I will fight JK. And Namju to get to Megan.
- 47:35Don't play with me, I will fight both of them to get to Megan.
- 47:38The way he pushed JK out the way to get.
- 47:40To Megan, that is going to be me with.
- 47:42Namju, I will body slam. But I but no, that's the only
- 47:47version of butter I will probably accept more.
- 47:50Now is the one with Megan. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:52So yes, they did butter. And then they also moved on to
- 47:55mic drop, which, you know, was very satisfying.
- 47:57The fan chants are also louder in this new edit.
- 47:59You can hear them more. We also got the infamous Miane
- 48:03Oma that I feel like really started again when Hobie was
- 48:06doing his solo promotion. So that was great to see them
- 48:09bring back mic, drop another mini break to chill, relax.
- 48:14Well, not really relax, but like to calm down, get a drink, ask
- 48:18how the audience is doing, thank them again, ask them if they're
- 48:20a cold, all that. Then we move on to aliens, which
- 48:24is also another one of my favorite songs.
- 48:27A very powerful song and it's meaning.
- 48:29Love the dance for that. As far as like the background
- 48:31dancers and what they're doing. I love the background dancers
- 48:34and that one. I'm probably going to embarrass
- 48:36you and your daughter Gina when we go see them in Baltimore, the
- 48:39way I'm going to be screaming the end of like, yeah, we land
- 48:43on it and stand on it make. Sure.
- 48:46Paul records you at that time because he's my cameraman and
- 48:50he's going to be there. So I'll just tell him to film
- 48:52that for us, please. Focus on the guys doing that,
- 48:54but thanks for the offer. I don't need to be that
- 48:58embarrassed, but yes, and then after alien, we go to fire,
- 49:02which I know all of us were yelling at Nam tune to sit down
- 49:05jumping. Oh my God, Foot, it's like Sir,
- 49:08sit. Still, I was screaming at the
- 49:11TVI. Was like.
- 49:13Fires fire. It hypes you up like I.
- 49:15Love that song. That's my favorite favorite from
- 49:18the first half of the album. That song is on read all the
- 49:21time. Yeah, yeah.
- 49:22I don't, I don't, I don't say, well, I would say, well, I don't
- 49:25say a blame Nam Jin. I will hold him accountable for
- 49:28jumping about, but I don't blame him because as I said, like that
- 49:31track, I don't think that. I mean it's put this way.
- 49:33I ain't putting that track on in the library because because I'm
- 49:36going to be good. It's not going to work.
- 49:39I'm putting that on in the gym. I'm putting that on when I, I
- 49:42don't go to the club anymore. I'm old.
- 49:44But if I was to simulate, if I was to put my little disco ball
- 49:47on in my in my living room, pretend that was fun, fire would
- 49:50be on the playlist. So.
- 49:51That was very, very club and like rave type song.
- 49:55So it makes a lot of sense. Yes.
- 49:57Another mini break. Then we go into the title track
- 50:00Swim, where we also got, you know, the dance for Swim for the
- 50:04first time. You know, it's just kind of like
- 50:05the song. It's very calm and relaxing.
- 50:07I also saw online apparently I don't know, like the part where
- 50:11like V&T, like when they're like, I just want to dive in
- 50:13part of the chorus. Apparently the movement they do
- 50:15is also sign language. I didn't know that.
- 50:17They've also been incorporating a lot of sign languages in their
- 50:19dances, I'm noticing. That's cool.
- 50:21Maybe that is the one good thing that PTD gave us.
- 50:24The one. Yes, I will say that it's a sign
- 50:28language of the dance. But they put it in here too.
- 50:31Yeah. They like all got together for
- 50:32like a wash up after PTD. I was like, can we learn from
- 50:35this experience? Like, well, they loved when we
- 50:37did sign language. Let's do that again.
- 50:39And that's a lovely, wholesome thing to take from PTD and let
- 50:42her rest. Yeah, I saw that from a Korean
- 50:44creator. A deaf Korean creator.
- 50:47That's actually beautiful. Yeah, and the swim choreo was
- 50:51exactly how I think I envisioned.
- 50:53I remember I said, I said there's not going to be, it's
- 50:55not going to be energetic the way that 2.0 and a Culligan is.
- 50:59It's going to be body rolls for days.
- 51:01It's going to be smooth. It's going to be moving in and
- 51:04out of sequence like waves. And it was just, it was, it was
- 51:06beautiful. It was just very, very hypnotic.
- 51:09I kind of went a little bit back to Black Swan with that kind of
- 51:11choreo. When I watched it, I was like,
- 51:12this is this is kind of the traditional ballet dance.
- 51:15Just just the. Yeah, just very, very, very
- 51:18pretty. Yes, exactly.
- 51:20Super technical. Again, control, body control is
- 51:24huge with those kinds of movements.
- 51:26And I know we're going to talk about this later, but I do feel
- 51:30like even if it is a slower track for a title track, I think
- 51:34the dancing makes it more technical and makes it more
- 51:38satisfying to watch. And not everybody can pull off
- 51:42the control that that dance is so.
- 51:46They make it look easy, like many, many things they do.
- 51:49So then after swim, you know, we get our little chill moments
- 51:52where we go into like animals. Very beautifully done.
- 51:56Is the way they sing that as well.
- 51:58And then Normal, which I know is 1 of Gino's favorite songs.
- 52:01I don't know if you want to talk about that a little bit or not.
- 52:04It is. My favorite song, but I I like
- 52:06the way that they perform this because I wasn't sure, because
- 52:10you always like we heard from like Nam Jean in the live and
- 52:14stuff like how Hobie was helping them pick songs that they could
- 52:18perform and like move to. And I was like, and they he said
- 52:22that how, you know, Hobie broke it down.
- 52:24Like he said, we can't move to this song or this.
- 52:27So I didn't know how they were going to go about normal because
- 52:30normal is one of those songs too that like it has slow parts, but
- 52:34also fast. But I'm glad that I didn't like
- 52:37perform it with a dance. I actually like that they kind
- 52:41of like took a moment to breathe and like just perform the song
- 52:45because I think hearing like the vocal line do their like siren
- 52:50calls, almost like especially Gin and normal.
- 52:52He has this point where it gets so vocal, but I think it would
- 52:57have been drowned out by dance. So I think this is going to be
- 53:00one of those songs that I'm going to love to hear live
- 53:03because, and I'm glad that they put Like Animals in Normal like
- 53:06they did in the album back-to-back in the performance.
- 53:09Because I think those songs really shot lyrically, but also
- 53:14just vocally because there isn't really heavy rapping either.
- 53:18It's more song rap in some parts.
- 53:20And I think it's just, I think it's beautiful, but I think they
- 53:24want to people hear the lyrics of those songs clearly.
- 53:28And movement would not have let people hear the words.
- 53:32And I think it was perfect. I think it was the perfect way
- 53:35to perform them. Yeah, it also means like it
- 53:37just, it gives it, I think it shines a light on like how
- 53:40they're going to perform, have the endurance of like all of
- 53:43these tracks 1 by 1. Like you can't have every single
- 53:46track be for this big like movement.
- 53:48They're going to exhaust themselves.
- 53:50So actually like being able to slow the pace down and like,
- 53:52like, like you say, like really focused in on them, how the
- 53:56heart they put into singing it, that the lyrics, that's the
- 53:58point of normal because because yeah, normal, normal gets deep.
- 54:01Normal normal gets quite heavy. There's there's heavy track as
- 54:04much as there's like fire frenetic, Yeah, like, you know,
- 54:06really like showing people who's boss.
- 54:08There's also shedding some light on stuff.
- 54:10And yeah, you don't want the distraction of them jumping
- 54:13around on stage. Right.
- 54:14Exactly. Yes, and then after normal is
- 54:17when we go into our final, you know, talk, basically saying the
- 54:20goodbyes. They mentioned their favorite
- 54:21songs at the time. I'm sure that's changed since
- 54:25the album's been out. Like us.
- 54:27They also, you know, got on Tay for sitting on the stool that
- 54:30was meant for Nam June. That was pretty funny.
- 54:32They also cut out the part where so they didn't cut out the part
- 54:35where Yungi was doing his final because I didn't realize until
- 54:39watching behind the scenes of like fan cans and stuff.
- 54:42I guess he was going to give his final speech in English, but
- 54:45then something happened with the prompts so it cut off.
- 54:48So then he started talking in Korean.
- 54:50But then you also see like especially Jen, he was dying
- 54:53laughter. I mean like JK and Hobie and
- 54:56even Tay like just laughing, but they don't show them laughing
- 54:59anymore. And I was sad, so I know.
- 55:02But you do see, we're like, now that I know what I could tell
- 55:05Ryungi was like, thank you for coming, that he switches to
- 55:07Korea. And I'm like, I don't think he
- 55:08was supposed to be doing that. No, I mean, he, yeah, he he
- 55:12just, he jumps. I mean, he's a consummate
- 55:14professional. But yeah, that was funny.
- 55:16But we have the we know, we know what we're done.
- 55:19You know, it was just, yeah, that was yeah.
- 55:21When you see when you see the back of it, when you see like
- 55:23the the screen just go blank. All of a sudden him just go ah,
- 55:27and then just the others be like, I think it's like the kind
- 55:30of relief that I have. Better you than me, better you
- 55:32than me. Even though we all know he
- 55:34secretly fluid like to stop playing seriously, it's.
- 55:37Fine, he was caught off guard. It's called guard.
- 55:39Fluent in any other in any other way?
- 55:41Particularly when Namjin is making the comment that they
- 55:43can't speak English and he's like, I'll show you.
- 55:46Listen, he tried in the Spotify event, especially when Namjin
- 55:50was teasing him about the swim. That part always, I replay that
- 55:54a lot. He stood out like he was going
- 55:56to beat exactly. He's like, you're not about to
- 55:59get me cancelled on the Internet.
- 56:01No, I don't hate swim. I hate swimming.
- 56:05I don't like water. Yeah, so if we weren't on stage
- 56:08and on camera, you know what would be up?
- 56:11So exactly which? Never never beating the cat
- 56:14allegations as well. Yeah, him and Tong probably
- 56:18don't like taking baths. So it's fine.
- 56:20It's fine. And then also we end out with
- 56:24performance for Dynamite, which is another one of the very, you
- 56:27know, hit songs of the English trio and wrap it all together
- 56:30with Microcosmos, which I remember because like me and
- 56:34Gina and some others in the Discourse server, like we were
- 56:36in the voice channel, but all watching it separately live.
- 56:39And like, we all kind of thought they were going to perform into
- 56:42the sun. But then we started hearing
- 56:43Micro Curbos. We were like, you know, that one
- 56:45beam of that one blonde girl was like, oh, that's what we all
- 56:48kind of do. Like Michael Craswells.
- 56:50Okay. But she was expected because
- 56:53they've been using that song for promotion for this whole thing.
- 56:56So I'm like, I'm not surprised, but.
- 56:59Into the Sun would have been such a better way to end.
- 57:02Like I feel like it was just I know why they're probably saving
- 57:06it for the tour and I have a feeling that that's going to be
- 57:09one of their ending songs. But like I think on I like you
- 57:13said, it was used as promo microcosmos, but I think Into
- 57:17the Sun would have been the better choice creatively.
- 57:21I think it would have been the better choice, but you know, I.
- 57:25Wasn't No, I, I, I love, I love Michael Crosman.
- 57:28I don't I don't get tired of it. I don't have to hear it because
- 57:30it's just a very it's just a very sentimental track.
- 57:32Like I, I like if they, if that's what they use in the
- 57:36concert, I will be, yeah. I'm going to.
- 57:38Cry because it'd be the first time I would ever have heard it
- 57:41like live and it's just yeah. And, and also the chance when
- 57:45they they actually had everyone get their phones out and do
- 57:48things, you know, that probably like, you know, talking about
- 57:50the lights and everyone being together.
- 57:52It's just, I don't know, it just makes you feel a bit warm and
- 57:54fuzzy inside. So I, I was, but I am going to
- 57:57be curious what like I think into the sun and also the tracks
- 58:00that we haven't seen live. So I think like, please, one
- 58:02more night. I have, yeah.
- 58:04I. Have them written down so the
- 58:05songs they didn't perform was Merry Go Round, They Don't Know
- 58:07About Us, One More Night Please and Into the Sun.
- 58:10So it was actually five. I thought it was only four
- 58:11songs. You missed one.
- 58:13How what are they going to do with #29 how are they going to
- 58:15perform that? That's.
- 58:17OK. The people want to know what are
- 58:19they going to do for that? It's.
- 58:20Going to be a midway point. It's going to be.
- 58:23I think it's going to be used in like like a midway point to
- 58:26separate the types of songs they're going to do during the
- 58:30tour. Like I think that it's going to
- 58:32be used similarly to what they did switching the club play
- 58:37songs to the more introspective songs.
- 58:40I think they might integrate like the first half be like
- 58:45newer or something and then go back in time and then tie it in
- 58:49with something from the current album.
- 58:51So like I see it as they do some of the newer tracks, song goes
- 58:55off, then we do kind of the introspective stuff that like
- 58:59Animals and Normal, but then start doing some of the older
- 59:03stuff and then tie back in with like Into the Sun or something
- 59:07at the end. Yeah, yeah, I think you're
- 59:09right. There's yeah #29 is just even in
- 59:11the album that was generally it's just such a tonal shift.
- 59:14It's just a complete pause of just like everything goes
- 59:17silent. Yeah, it'd be really interesting
- 59:18how they incorporate that, right.
- 59:20But then I also, you know, maybe it'll just be like a random the
- 59:23gong will just sound and whatever they're doing, they
- 59:25just have to freeze and it's just one, one minute, 32nd of
- 59:28just hold. So like is.
- 59:30This our new you know how like in Beyoncé's tour she has like
- 59:34in Renaissance everybody, you know go mute of the gong.
- 59:37Is that what you're saying shitty Maybe maybe I love that
- 59:42right. I'll calm down.
- 59:43It's. Time to meditate, yeah?
- 59:45Water. Breathe.
- 59:47Yeah, Honestly, I love that idea.
- 59:50I'm gonna. Need it.
- 59:51I'm gonna, I'm gonna. I'm.
- 59:52Gonna sleep for two days after this concert.
- 59:54I'll call the energy expended. I could do it a minute for
- 59:57yourself. And just just to just to
- 59:59decrease stimulation. Thank you very much, Bong Todd.
- 1:00:01Much appreciated. Exactly.
- 1:00:03I am very curious. So like, are they gonna perform?
- 1:00:06All the songs on this new album, or if there's going to be like
- 1:00:08one or two, they may omit. I'm not not going to lie, I
- 1:00:12would rather than play all the songs on the new album and just
- 1:00:15admit one of the old ones. It's fine.
- 1:00:17Like you guys keep saying, we're in a new era.
- 1:00:19Like I would take, I actually would take all fourteen of
- 1:00:22these, replace it with something old.
- 1:00:24I I need I need. One more night.
- 1:00:28I need it now. I think it was perfect as well.
- 1:00:30Yeah, so great. And I think.
- 1:00:32And even if even if it's. More of a you know, we've had
- 1:00:34we've had tracks for that before that are very like, yeah, very
- 1:00:37like very because like One More Night.
- 1:00:39And just for people's reference, One More Night has been adopted
- 1:00:42by Brits because it is the most stereotypical like Brit, like
- 1:00:47popular British, kind of like a lot of a lot of tracks like BTS
- 1:00:50put out are like, oh, this is for the Brits, this is for us.
- 1:00:52Like this is this is the music you have in the background of
- 1:00:54Love Island. Like this is, this is for us
- 1:00:56and, and one more night has kind of taken like it's so we're just
- 1:00:59like we've just adopted one more night.
- 1:01:01And so I'm just saying when they, if they need to perform
- 1:01:04that and when they come to London and that for those two
- 1:01:06days and I am in one of those nights, we're going to go crazy.
- 1:01:09We're going to be just, we just that that's that's our job.
- 1:01:12So yeah, yeah, everyone's afraid that police is going to get the
- 1:01:14paradise. Treatment and be forgotten.
- 1:01:17Listen, we will see you in two weeks.
- 1:01:19But yes, that's pretty much our breakdown of the live guys.
- 1:01:23If you haven't seen it, highly highly recommend it.
- 1:01:26Like honestly, go watch it first before you hear us talk about
- 1:01:29the documentary. I'm just saying.
- 1:01:31But yes, we are going to move on to another drop on Netflix.
- 1:01:35Only BTS The Return, the documentary that is the full
- 1:01:39name directed by Bao Nguyen. He also did a very interesting
- 1:01:45Teen Vogue article as well, kind of like talking about what his
- 1:01:49thought process was. I didn't know he approached the
- 1:01:52company back in 2021 to try to do something with BTS.
- 1:01:56But of course like military and everything, they couldn't and
- 1:01:59then they reapproached them once they discharge.
- 1:02:02So it's a very interesting read. I do have the article listed in
- 1:02:06the description note and he also talked about too in that the way
- 1:02:10it's set up and wanting to wait for Jin to join them.
- 1:02:14I don't remember how long they were in LA before Jin joined
- 1:02:18them. I think it was like, I think it
- 1:02:19was a week and 1/2 or so it was. Only a week and 1/2.
- 1:02:22It was a week and a half to two weeks.
- 1:02:24I think that he was with them. It seemed like they were there
- 1:02:28for a month and he only had a month.
- 1:02:30I didn't think it was that long. Listen, time is soon at this.
- 1:02:33Point. I don't know, like I know they
- 1:02:36went before him and I'll talk about that too when we start
- 1:02:38actually talking about that, but I was like, I didn't think the
- 1:02:40time was. I mean, they did a lot
- 1:02:42apparently if it was only a week and 1/2 or two weeks because
- 1:02:46they told him. Let me save that for when I get
- 1:02:49into this. But yes, we're going to start
- 1:02:51talking about the documentary. Warning spoilers.
- 1:02:54If you haven't watched this yet, we're going to be talking about
- 1:02:56pretty much everything, discussing some very important
- 1:02:58things in this documentary. So if you don't care about
- 1:03:01spoilers, you can keep listening.
- 1:03:03If you do, go watch it and then listen to our thoughts.
- 1:03:06There's been a lot of discourse online, not only with this but
- 1:03:09with the album itself that we will get into.
- 1:03:12But honestly, when you watch this documentary, it just feels
- 1:03:16like BTS pretty be much like predicted in a weird way with
- 1:03:20the discourse on mine was going to be very strange how they did
- 1:03:24that. And then we'll talk about a
- 1:03:25little bit more when I do Part 2 and talk about the actual like
- 1:03:28album itself and like the discourse about the songs.
- 1:03:30But right now we're just talking about the documentary.
- 1:03:33So once we you know, you play it opens up.
- 1:03:37We start with the infamous beach live that the guys did when they
- 1:03:40were all in LA recording the album and preparing for their
- 1:03:43long-awaited 4 year comeback as Group of Seven.
- 1:03:47And then I also remember when that live did happen, many
- 1:03:51people also noticed like the camera crew that was following
- 1:03:53them in the background. So we were all like, oh, are we
- 1:03:55getting like behind the scene content?
- 1:03:57And it turned out to be Netflix the whole time, especially when
- 1:04:00it was announced that they're doing the documentary and you
- 1:04:02know, armies being some armies. And like there's a whole
- 1:04:05category we have for some of them of like the theory armies
- 1:04:08were like the camera crew was probably Netflix.
- 1:04:10And know what guys, you were right.
- 1:04:13It was indeed Netflix. I also love to at the beginning
- 1:04:17of that, they kept the whole like that part that went viral
- 1:04:19online when they read the comment like miss you my husband
- 1:04:23and Namjoos, like miss you my wife.
- 1:04:25Oh my God. Yeah, we went.
- 1:04:28A bit crazy. I mean, it was, it was, it was
- 1:04:31the, it was all the emotions that was then back together.
- 1:04:34It was the sunset, it was the beach, it was Namjin, and then
- 1:04:38it was calling us our wives. It just and they just they they
- 1:04:40feed the Delisle. I mean, I know like we can, we
- 1:04:43can get we, we people cross boundaries into Delisle and of
- 1:04:46course we don't, we don't condone those actions.
- 1:04:48However, Namjin specifically, he has his moments where I'm like,
- 1:04:51come on, you just what you know, you should know what you're
- 1:04:54unleashing at this point. Yes, so exactly.
- 1:04:57And also for people who may have not watched.
- 1:04:59That live because it goes back and forth to like, you know,
- 1:05:02black screen of like introduction of like of blobble
- 1:05:05or about when film Netflix and like hi, you know, like there's
- 1:05:09parts where you just like hear Jin screaming.
- 1:05:12I hope people know like he's not screaming of terror.
- 1:05:15Well, I mean kind of it's when like take kept hugging him.
- 1:05:18It wouldn't stop hugging him, especially after he I'm pretty
- 1:05:21sure he also went into the water with Jimin, right.
- 1:05:23They were both wet, soaking wet. Yeah yes, so he's screaming from
- 1:05:29that. He's fine guys.
- 1:05:30He wasn't being tortured or anything.
- 1:05:33So after that, you know, we get like a little montage of BTS
- 1:05:35performing throughout the years from like Love Yourself era,
- 1:05:38Permission to Dance and their last concert in Busan.
- 1:05:41And then we have Stephen Colbert, which I'm assuming this
- 1:05:44was around the time they were last on his show, which I'm
- 1:05:47assuming was around 2021, I think.
- 1:05:51I think that was the last time they were on that show.
- 1:05:53But anyway, we get a voice over of him when he's doing like the
- 1:05:56introduction of the band. I have a direct quote where it
- 1:05:59says international music phenomenon, one of the biggest
- 1:06:02groups on the planet. They had made Times magazine's
- 1:06:05most influentialist and they became the first group since The
- 1:06:09Beatles to have three albums go number one in less than a year.
- 1:06:13So then after that and then like, because there was also a
- 1:06:16part where like Trevor Noah, I think when they went to the
- 1:06:18Grammys was talking about them and talk about like they're the
- 1:06:21biggest boy band. Cut to a black screen and a
- 1:06:24notice saying starting in 2022, BTS, the world's biggest musical
- 1:06:29group, paused everything at their peak and begin mandatory
- 1:06:32military service. And then we also get a bunch of
- 1:06:35like voice overs of people talking about like their
- 1:06:37feelings during the enlistment, why they have to go.
- 1:06:39We also get some clips of Jen getting his hair shaved once
- 1:06:42again and then like the members sending him off and to the gate.
- 1:06:46It's over, Gina, it's fine, they're back.
- 1:06:48I cried so hard. I was watching that with.
- 1:06:51Tears in my eye. I'm like, yeah, more flashbacks.
- 1:06:56Literally, Scott. Paul looked over and I was just
- 1:06:59like. Tear like crying.
- 1:07:02He's like, it's not here anymore.
- 1:07:04I like her. I know Jen was the worst for me,
- 1:07:07I thought. Hobie was going to be the worst
- 1:07:08to. Go in the No it was Jen.
- 1:07:10I was mess because he was the 1st and he went.
- 1:07:15It was more flashback. Stupid director.
- 1:07:18Anyway, you have to get the sense of.
- 1:07:20Emotion of what this means for. Their return, yeah.
- 1:07:23You have to remember, Gina, like this is Netflix.
- 1:07:25This is for people. That have not seen this stuff
- 1:07:28exactly as part of like a self torture self torture device,
- 1:07:33which is what we had watching stuff over like pain but not
- 1:07:36like that. I mean this is.
- 1:07:39Gina, This is why. We may have to turn it into a
- 1:07:42joke of like the anchor carton of adding more to the egg Carson
- 1:07:46because like, what else could we do?
- 1:07:48Like if you don't laugh, you cry and we never see BTC stuff.
- 1:07:52People, this is freaking. Heart shattering stuff.
- 1:07:55Okay, yes, because we have to also remember this is not only.
- 1:07:59For the fans. But this is also a way to
- 1:08:02showcase BTC to the general public, which again throughout
- 1:08:05this documentary that I will mention, I feel like a lot of
- 1:08:08fans forget that, but we will get into that because there's a
- 1:08:11lot of arguments on who was BTS trying to anyway, we're going to
- 1:08:15continue before I start getting into it.
- 1:08:18So yes. But after that it gets happy
- 1:08:21Gina. OK, cuz we start getting clips
- 1:08:23of them being discharged. Remember the flowers, the
- 1:08:25happiness, them saluting being finally done.
- 1:08:28We got Namdia with the saxophone.
- 1:08:30Yes, happy times. The only one we didn't get
- 1:08:33though is Yungi, because of course his service was
- 1:08:35different. So for those who don't know how
- 1:08:37the military, I have to also talk of like people who don't
- 1:08:40know BTS that well or maybe chiming in for the first time.
- 1:08:43They have separate military services, active duty and kind
- 1:08:47of like a civil in a way. That one's more for like men who
- 1:08:50aren't like physically qualified to do the active duty.
- 1:08:53So because Yungi, you know, had his shoulder injury way back
- 1:08:56when, even though he had surgery for it, I guess they deemed like
- 1:08:59he wasn't really fit to do like the active service like the
- 1:09:02other guys did. So his was also a little bit
- 1:09:04longer. He came out a couple months
- 1:09:06after all the other members were finally discharged.
- 1:09:11But yes. And then we also have like a
- 1:09:12voice over of one guy stating like the Princess of Popper back
- 1:09:16and that BTS are back. I'm heading to the US to record
- 1:09:19for an album that is slated for spring 2026 release.
- 1:09:23So that we kind of spring forward time a little bit, which
- 1:09:26over to the house that I'm assuming BTS was staying in when
- 1:09:29they were in LA for the two months that they were recording.
- 1:09:33Adi Dong. You know, you kind of just see
- 1:09:34the members lounging around and it gives like a little
- 1:09:36introduction of them. You had sugar on his phone on
- 1:09:39the porch. You had Tay outside on the
- 1:09:42balcony, Nam Jin watching TV, JK on his phone, Jim eating and
- 1:09:46then hope you look like he was about to go work out in betweens
- 1:09:49as well. You kind of see like a POV of
- 1:09:51someone in a car on the highway of LA, which we later see is Jin
- 1:09:55and that means he's on his way to enjoyed the members.
- 1:09:58Finally after being done with the solo tour, run Soap Gin.
- 1:10:02And if you want to hear about the tour, me and Gina did an
- 1:10:05episode on that talking about seeing Gin and Tampa FL
- 1:10:09Shameless plug. So go listen to that episode
- 1:10:11guys. Also, I must not have been
- 1:10:14paying attention. I I messaged Gina too when I was
- 1:10:17rewatching this. There's a lot of things
- 1:10:18apparently I had missed and I wasn't paying attention.
- 1:10:20I must have been on my phone because when Tay was on the
- 1:10:22balcony, why was he showing us all that for free?
- 1:10:24Why'd we get the chest and the ABS for free?
- 1:10:26I was like, Sir, chapter 2 is not about taking our shirts off.
- 1:10:31Liar. What men do is lie.
- 1:10:34I. So then when we get to the
- 1:10:36house. When Jin finally.
- 1:10:38Arrives, you know, he's greeted by Jimin and Hobie and Nam Jin
- 1:10:42actually gives him a bouquet of flowers, which I thought was
- 1:10:45very sweet. That touched Gina's heart as
- 1:10:47well. And you can also tell that he
- 1:10:50came back from his own tour because I didn't realize this,
- 1:10:53but my second watcher off the whole documentary.
- 1:10:55He's mainly wearing his tour merch for clothes.
- 1:10:59It's good stuff. I mean, he had.
- 1:11:01Really great merch. OK, I will say out of all.
- 1:11:04The merch for like solo gin was my favorite.
- 1:11:07It has so good. Yes, great quality.
- 1:11:10Just like, really cute. Intricate designs.
- 1:11:13I really loved his merch and lots of sizes.
- 1:11:16Yes, very size. Inclusive.
- 1:11:18Especially, you know. For our bigger girlies and we
- 1:11:20loved that. So he also talks about how.
- 1:11:24Exhausted he was. And how he just finished his
- 1:11:26last show in Amsterdam and immediately got on a flight to
- 1:11:29LA. Also, people need to remember
- 1:11:31for like the timelines. So this was in August of 2025.
- 1:11:35And this was before Jin decided to do an encore like finale
- 1:11:39concert in Seoul. So that was way before that.
- 1:11:42Because we also, I don't know if we talked about it in the
- 1:11:44recording. The finale was very last minute.
- 1:11:46It was last minute. It was.
- 1:11:48I don't even think he was planning on.
- 1:11:49Doing 1 he wasn't because during the tour he said he wasn't going
- 1:11:53to. Do what he was.
- 1:11:54All of a sudden we get a notice run soaked JIT Finale.
- 1:11:57We're like, what? He said that too.
- 1:12:00Finale was right before the guys.
- 1:12:03Left for LA, didn't they? Because it wasn't too long after
- 1:12:06the finale. No, it was after they were
- 1:12:08already back in Korea. Bianca was Halloween with an AI.
- 1:12:12Was going to say it was. Around like October, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:15Why is time really? Like not function time's an
- 1:12:19illusion when you're winning, my catch phrase.
- 1:12:22But yeah, and and the amount of content.
- 1:12:23That we had the amount of things happening.
- 1:12:25Once they were back was just like bam, bam, bam, bam, bam.
- 1:12:27So we get events and stuff and you don't break us at all.
- 1:12:30Because imagine being BTS and actually living that life.
- 1:12:32It's just back and forth and back and forth.
- 1:12:34But yeah, I do remember that the encore was around Halloween
- 1:12:38because I think I made a joke with my friends where he was
- 1:12:40like, hey guys, are we doing anything with Halloween?
- 1:12:42And they're like, Oh no, I'm like, I'm tired.
- 1:12:44And he was like, oh, we cannot do something with Halloween.
- 1:12:47So he was just like, I know what we can do.
- 1:12:50And so he just went back on his word and just, yeah, just
- 1:12:54continued July. Yeah, yes.
- 1:12:57I also wanted to point out. I thought it was very funny
- 1:13:00where like Jin was pointing out how like big and buff everyone
- 1:13:03had gotten and he's like flex his arm.
- 1:13:05He's like look, I was working out too.
- 1:13:07And then Jim and go and squeeze his bicep.
- 1:13:08He's like, wow, there's nothing there.
- 1:13:11Oh my God, Jin's arm was huge to.
- 1:13:14Me, I thought they were huge, but also the other guys were.
- 1:13:18Pretty big because we have to remember Jin was like out for at
- 1:13:21least a year before the others so we had time to like slim down
- 1:13:25but yeah no I mean like compared at the time to like Tay and John
- 1:13:29cook like they were huge okay must they were still they were
- 1:13:33still beefcakes yeah and we. We appreciate them.
- 1:13:37Yeah, yeah. So yes, we also.
- 1:13:40Move on with the scene to the members sitting out bag it
- 1:13:43consists of Nam, Jin, Jin, Hobie and Tay and Jen is kind of like
- 1:13:47asking them how the progress is going.
- 1:13:49Nam tune and Yugi are explaining how like they have a basic
- 1:13:52structure for the album but like nothing is finalized.
- 1:13:55They haven't even picked the lead single.
- 1:13:57They don't know a concept no like dances and they've been
- 1:14:00stuck in a rut for about a week. So then after letting him know,
- 1:14:04and I also like how Tay was trying to lighten up the mood,
- 1:14:06like after them being stuck in a in a run, he's like, well, at
- 1:14:09least the view was nice. Look at the city of LA and the
- 1:14:12sunset. Yeah, let's put this in
- 1:14:14perspective, shall we guys? Like we're.
- 1:14:16We're in a mansion, we're in LA. Our military service is done.
- 1:14:20And look at that view. And, you know, I agree with, you
- 1:14:22know, always, always look on the bright side.
- 1:14:25Exactly. I do appreciate him saying that
- 1:14:27because he's like, well, listen. Route I was going to say they
- 1:14:31could have been stuck in the military still.
- 1:14:32They could have been stuck in office building in Korea.
- 1:14:35Like, at least they were out in the sunshine with the beach and
- 1:14:38the warm weather. Yeah.
- 1:14:39So, I mean, he wasn't wrong. Yeah, they get they get to lock
- 1:14:42them up in those hype recording studios.
- 1:14:44And looked on the outside. I was like, don't come out until
- 1:14:47you have an album. So I said they were like, no,
- 1:14:49we'll get you a mansion and we'll just, we'll chill.
- 1:14:50I was like, yeah, quite right, quite right.
- 1:14:53Exactly So after. That we also jumped to a seat
- 1:14:57where Namji's in the car. I'm assuming they're heading to
- 1:14:59the studio starts talking. I was actually surprised I'm
- 1:15:01doing was talking a lot of English and this as well, like
- 1:15:05expressing his feelings and everything in English.
- 1:15:07But he starts talking about how BTS are blessed to still be
- 1:15:09around for as long as they have 12 years and you know, just
- 1:15:13gives like a brief K pop artists, you know, their
- 1:15:15lifespan as like, you know, being a group is very short
- 1:15:19lived. Not even just a group like you
- 1:15:21know there are some like K pop idols who go off to do their own
- 1:15:24thing but sometimes even that like it's still short lived like
- 1:15:28he was saying. Now I don't know and this has to
- 1:15:31be a question for someone who has been in K pop longer and you
- 1:15:34don't have a weird hatred towards BTS.
- 1:15:37Because when I say this is going to wrong people the wrong way.
- 1:15:39I don't know if BTS is truly is the longest K pop group that's
- 1:15:43still active meaning no members have left.
- 1:15:46They didn't do any type of member switches throughout their
- 1:15:49career at all. So they have the original lineup
- 1:15:51since the beginning. I know in their generation 2013
- 1:15:54of idols that debut, they are the only one standing, but I
- 1:15:58also mean like no member changes, no members leaving.
- 1:16:01They haven't gone on like a really long like three to five
- 1:16:04year hiatus of like not putting any group music out or like
- 1:16:08reforming the group later for like any type of reunion
- 1:16:11specials. So I don't know any other group
- 1:16:15like that. I mean, I don't have, I don't
- 1:16:17have a full sense of like which ones there might.
- 1:16:19Be the one that does come to mind kind of circling back to
- 1:16:22when I talked about my origins with getting into into BTS is
- 1:16:26shiny. So that but obviously the
- 1:16:27conditions of that is it's not like a member left it's
- 1:16:30unfortunately pass away. So I suppose when you do on that
- 1:16:34basis, I suppose like Big Bang, but then Big Bang did take that
- 1:16:37long break. So yeah, in terms of having the
- 1:16:40continual, I'm a mini breakdown like like BTS having done a
- 1:16:43hiatus, like I think you exempt military service, which is
- 1:16:46obviously a lot need to take that pause because it is
- 1:16:48mandatory. Umm, outside of that BTS is like
- 1:16:51hiatus or like breaks have been like only only a couple months,
- 1:16:55you know, long. So, yeah, they have they've been
- 1:16:57going like I think that that I think it is probably accurate
- 1:17:00that in terms of from start to finish like and just continual
- 1:17:03flow including military. They I think I think he would be
- 1:17:07right on that because all the other like second Gen. groups
- 1:17:10that I know of that might predict them, they have been
- 1:17:13disbanded and created other spin off groups or they have had
- 1:17:16members leave and members join. Yeah.
- 1:17:19So I'm just going to think that sounds.
- 1:17:21Pretty accurate, whether people want to accept that or not.
- 1:17:24Like it's true. And then he also talks about how
- 1:17:27he was. Talking with.
- 1:17:29Their chairman, Bong PD, you know, they don't really have,
- 1:17:32like, a framework or reference for them to really go off based
- 1:17:35off their careers because of that situation.
- 1:17:37There's a lot of, like, experimenting going on and,
- 1:17:39like, trying to find out what really makes them special and,
- 1:17:42like, what makes them work as a group.
- 1:17:44And I know at first when I was watching this, I kind of thought
- 1:17:47Namtu was talking about when he had said, like, what makes them
- 1:17:50special, what makes them work. Thought he was talking about,
- 1:17:52like, the process of, like, an album and like, how they work
- 1:17:54together as a group for the album.
- 1:17:56But then I kind of realized second watch, he meant like BTS
- 1:18:00as a whole. Yeah, so then we get into like a
- 1:18:04kind of small montage of BTS in the studio, either working on
- 1:18:08the music or I put goofing around.
- 1:18:11But like, it was probably just like being distracted because I
- 1:18:14didn't know what to really do. I also love if people, you know,
- 1:18:19don't know this. The music they were playing
- 1:18:21during that montage was from their first Japanese album
- 1:18:25called Wake Up, and it's the intro called Wake Up.
- 1:18:27I actually use that as my alarm clock when I first got into BTS.
- 1:18:30It's a great way to wake up guys because they're screaming at you
- 1:18:32to wake up, so it's perfect. But during this also, Nom Dream
- 1:18:37talks about how once they're done with LA, they're going to
- 1:18:39go back to Korea. And when they do, that's when
- 1:18:42they're going to do like all the final mixing for the songs they
- 1:18:44choose as well as, you know, like everything else that comes
- 1:18:46with the album, like the photos to go along with the theming and
- 1:18:50all that for the long waited comeback and how they promised,
- 1:18:53you know, the fans that they would come back, which is what
- 1:18:56they're doing. They also discussed how time
- 1:18:58feels like it's running out because they only had two weeks
- 1:19:01left in LA at that time and it felt like they weren't going
- 1:19:04anywhere with the progress. And we see that during the
- 1:19:07recording session. Shout out my man P dog.
- 1:19:10I really enjoyed, you know, that scene that we got with him
- 1:19:13working with Jim and I love P dog.
- 1:19:15Okay, I know nothing about this man.
- 1:19:17I don't need to know anything. But like all of my a lot of my
- 1:19:20favorite songs, he's always in the credits.
- 1:19:22So if I see him in the credits, I know it's going to be a
- 1:19:25beggar. He's been with them literally
- 1:19:26since the beginning. So obviously they trust his
- 1:19:29creative direction that they, you know, he leads them to and
- 1:19:33all that. Yeah.
- 1:19:34So yeah, I saw someone say on Twitter they were like, you
- 1:19:36know, there's a there's a lot of very.
- 1:19:37Big name producers in here, but like let's not forget LLP dogs.
- 1:19:40He's the OG. He is like and he he's still
- 1:19:43just like so many years on. He's just so you just their
- 1:19:46relationship, you could tell is just so strong.
- 1:19:47Like he is able to just really get to, he gives direction for
- 1:19:51what he needs to do and they get it so well like that just yeah.
- 1:19:54Dream team. I love seeing Pee Dog every
- 1:19:56time. I love seeing any of the OG big
- 1:19:59hit team that I've been with them from the beginning.
- 1:20:00You just felt like there's so much more comfortable and
- 1:20:03there's so much more. There's yeah, just so much more
- 1:20:05copacetic with that team. But yeah, shout to Pee Dog.
- 1:20:08He's fabulous. Not out the pee dog.
- 1:20:11And we also. Do like get a chance to like see
- 1:20:14them working on songs that like didn't make the album as well?
- 1:20:17Like there's a point where I think Tay's in the recording
- 1:20:19booth. Like you obviously can hear the
- 1:20:21song and we don't know what song it is because it didn't make it
- 1:20:24the album. But I thought that was
- 1:20:25interesting and nice to that we got to also be introduced at
- 1:20:28songs and then make the cut. You also have to wonder, like,
- 1:20:32you know, what those songs would have sound like if they chosen
- 1:20:34them and like made the final cut and all that.
- 1:20:36So very interesting. Or like maybe why they didn't
- 1:20:40choose them as well. I also do want to mention
- 1:20:43something briefly because I do remember I think Shannon had
- 1:20:45read this too. There was a Vulture article that
- 1:20:47had came out of like someone who had watched the documentary
- 1:20:51beforehand and was like kind of giving a sneak peek of what to
- 1:20:54expect. And that article.
- 1:20:56Now, watching the documentary was very misleading because
- 1:20:58there was a point when people kind of took something and spin
- 1:21:01it where at the beginning when they're in the studio, Jin
- 1:21:04talked about like how exhausted he was and like was questioning
- 1:21:06why he was there. And like, Tay was agreeing with
- 1:21:09him. And now that I've seen the
- 1:21:10scene, it obviously meant he was exhausted because they were
- 1:21:14sitting there listening to music all day and Tay was obviously
- 1:21:17trying to cheer him up. Like, I don't know, obviously
- 1:21:20because there's been edits, Like, I don't know if like Jen
- 1:21:22had time to record that day or because they're all there.
- 1:21:26Like he's just listening to like the producers and like Yungi and
- 1:21:28all them just trying to mix and match music to the point where
- 1:21:31like they're kind of going insane from hearing the same
- 1:21:33notes over and over and over. Like there's just so many
- 1:21:36possibilities. We don't know what happened that
- 1:21:38day, but like to make it seem like, you know, he was tired of
- 1:21:42like questioning why he was there as far as like, what's his
- 1:21:44part as a member? Like, OK, that's not what
- 1:21:48happened. It's very telling, isn't it,
- 1:21:50when you? Decontextualize something and
- 1:21:52you like break it down into like what?
- 1:21:53This is what happened to this is what people said.
- 1:21:55Like it's actually when you put it in, as soon as you put it
- 1:21:58into contact of that scene, I was immediately reminded of what
- 1:22:01it's like when you're on a film set, when you're on, when you're
- 1:22:04on anything that needs that may or may not need your
- 1:22:07participation. It is like hurry up and wait.
- 1:22:09You can be stuck around for hours and hours in case you're
- 1:22:12needed. And I think like, at the stage
- 1:22:14that they were out with the album, they'd already laid down
- 1:22:16a few things. And like we said, Jin came later
- 1:22:18because of the tour. So it may have been we might
- 1:22:20need you here to lay down some vocals, but we might also not
- 1:22:23need you. And so, yeah, you are sat around
- 1:22:25for a long time just in case you're needed.
- 1:22:27And it's a very normal thing. And you're just like, I'm a bit
- 1:22:31bored. I'm a bit tired.
- 1:22:32I'd rather be asleep right now. But I get it.
- 1:22:34It's part of the process. But yeah, I agree that Vulture
- 1:22:36article, which I'm sure will come on to of a couple of the
- 1:22:38other things the Vulture article did that I think was a little
- 1:22:40bit disingenuous of them. It was definitely, it definitely
- 1:22:45set up a bit more concerned than I think was necessary as we get
- 1:22:49into the documentary. Yeah.
- 1:22:51So yes, after that we switch. Over to a scene where they're
- 1:22:55eating dinner. I'm assuming Yugi already went
- 1:22:57to bed because he left. So he either went out to do
- 1:22:59something or he went to bed. I'm pretty sure he went to bed
- 1:23:01and Namjoo came down later, which I think was later revealed
- 1:23:05he was coming down to eat dinner later because he was so, you
- 1:23:09know, stuck it either in his room or somewhere trying to
- 1:23:12write these lyrics. We know how he gets.
- 1:23:13If you've ever watched any other content of them, a great example
- 1:23:17of that is like Bon Voyage season 4, when he was, you know,
- 1:23:21in the trailer trying to write the lyrics and they had to drag
- 1:23:25him out and give him a tiny potato to peel, to calm his, to,
- 1:23:29like, make his mind stop racing. So that's just a great example
- 1:23:33of how he gets so, like, focused on something but also drives his
- 1:23:37brain crazy. Yeah.
- 1:23:39Tiny potato. June, we love you.
- 1:23:41We. Do we love you so much?
- 1:23:43Tae Young mentions. That they're really trying to
- 1:23:45like challenge themselves with this album with being like
- 1:23:48experimental, trying something new and trying to evolve as
- 1:23:52well. But then, you know, he also does
- 1:23:53question if they've changed musically.
- 1:23:56You have Nam tune and Jungkook like reassure him.
- 1:23:59They both kind of state like, you know, this album already
- 1:24:02sounds like very different than anything they put out in their
- 1:24:04past music. J Hope also states that he
- 1:24:07doesn't feel under pressure or stress, but what he is stressed
- 1:24:10about is like wanting to make music freely, but at the same
- 1:24:13time feeling like all this systematic and like working in a
- 1:24:16factory. I will come back to that.
- 1:24:19This is what I was talking about a little bit earlier, something
- 1:24:21that Hobie had mentioned because this goes into one of the
- 1:24:25discussions we will have later when they're talking to one of
- 1:24:27the executives that we all know by name, or at least the fans
- 1:24:31do. Jimin states that it's because
- 1:24:33they've been out of the game for so long through the military.
- 1:24:36Also due to the military, like you know, again, a lot of things
- 1:24:40happen oddly in like the two. I mean, I want to say 2 years
- 1:24:44when they are officially enlisted.
- 1:24:46But if you think about it, it didn't really put out any new
- 1:24:49music since 2022 aside from Take Two, but that was recorded like
- 1:24:55a lot earlier when it was released.
- 1:24:57So way before they left. Nam Jun talks about how he feels
- 1:25:01pressured and then like Jim and quotes of things they've
- 1:25:04probably seen online or heard people saying like BTS is not as
- 1:25:08good as expected. They're over, I guess.
- 1:25:10And he wants to hear like, no, I don't know if this is due to
- 1:25:13translation because like when I hear this phrase like is built
- 1:25:16different, that means something differently in context.
- 1:25:18But he said he wants to hear people say BTS is built
- 1:25:21different. So I'm assuming and Korean that
- 1:25:23means it's a good thing. But then Jen kind of like ends
- 1:25:26that conversation stating like, as long as like they're happy
- 1:25:29and the fans are happy with the final results, that's kind of
- 1:25:31all he cares about. I think we're so used to them
- 1:25:35just being. Happily in the studio and this
- 1:25:38is like one of the first times to we're really seeing like them
- 1:25:42talk about the pressures that they're feeling, especially
- 1:25:46coming out of the military. Like we have all our
- 1:25:50expectations as army. We're excited.
- 1:25:53We have thoughts and feelings that we were putting out into
- 1:25:55the universe and we're well aware that they know what we're
- 1:25:59feeling because some of them are chronically online and they were
- 1:26:04probably aware too. So that was probably feeding a
- 1:26:06lot into their own anxieties. But I think too Jin's comment
- 1:26:12of, you know, as long as the fans are happy and we're happy,
- 1:26:15that's all that matters. I think that's the main thing
- 1:26:18that we as Army also want. We want them happy, but we want
- 1:26:23to be happy too. And I think that's the one thing
- 1:26:25that they have to keep remembering throughout, like
- 1:26:28even the tour and stuff. As long as they're feeling happy
- 1:26:32and healthy and Army is too, I think that's what's going to
- 1:26:36matter the most because at the end of the day, like there is
- 1:26:39always going to critics and things like that that want to
- 1:26:43make their comments known, but it is about just their happiness
- 1:26:47at this point. You know, like to like they are
- 1:26:50the most, they're the ones performing.
- 1:26:53And I do. I love Jin's philosophy though,
- 1:26:55like his philosophy has always been one.
- 1:26:58And he does bring the group some positivity in his own way
- 1:27:02because there are a lot of members like as we just reading
- 1:27:05these quotes that are very real in their thoughts and some more
- 1:27:10negative than others. And I guess in my mind, I always
- 1:27:14knew that was a reality that some of them were more jaded in
- 1:27:19some ways than others, especially those that are the
- 1:27:22more producer oriented like rap line.
- 1:27:26But they're saying to me is not shocking, but vocal line.
- 1:27:30To have some of those doubts is kind of surprising in a way
- 1:27:34because they seem to be the members that, like, are shiny,
- 1:27:38you know, like, they're like, they're shiny.
- 1:27:40And having Tay, you know, even say, like he has these doubts.
- 1:27:43It's like kind of like made me sad because I'm like, wow.
- 1:27:46Like the system really is doing its thing.
- 1:27:50And sometimes I can see why groups don't want to continue,
- 1:27:54like they're battling things of a reality of artists that have
- 1:27:59been there for longer. So I think it was just like an
- 1:28:03important thing to show, at least for my eyes anyways.
- 1:28:09So then we're going to move on. We get another, you know, drunk
- 1:28:12up to a scene. They're in a theatre room and it
- 1:28:15seems like they're going over like old clips of them, like
- 1:28:17performing dance practices behind the scenes footage.
- 1:28:20And it literally goes like all the way down the debut.
- 1:28:23And I wonder what that's like for them.
- 1:28:24Like, you know, I bet it's such an odd feeling to, like,
- 1:28:27literally have all this footage of, like, watching you grow up
- 1:28:31because, you know, like, some people, you keep that privately,
- 1:28:33but like, you had millions of people watching you literally
- 1:28:36grow up. So I also just wonder, like,
- 1:28:39what comes to their mind when they're watching that footage
- 1:28:41of, like, maybe certain memories that they have that like, we
- 1:28:44will never know about. So that was just what I was
- 1:28:46thinking about when I watched that.
- 1:28:47It was also funny because now I'm going to start playing that
- 1:28:49saxophone. And I guess he started playing
- 1:28:51one of the military songs. They all started groaning and
- 1:28:53drunk screaming. I'm triggered.
- 1:28:57So if you think you're a trigger cheetah, imagine for them.
- 1:29:00Yeah, and it was so funny. I'm like, oh, we do that to
- 1:29:04them. Which to say Nam June, you said
- 1:29:08you were in a. Play as music on the saxophone.
- 1:29:10Where is that? He said I'll play for you guys
- 1:29:13and he never did so I think that songs Nam June.
- 1:29:16I mean, we might get a little song songwriting, little the
- 1:29:20song breakdown and still do that live because that and if there's
- 1:29:24a little sex in the corner, then we know we've got to do in the
- 1:29:27comments just. Crank it out and give us
- 1:29:29careless, whisper Namjin. That's right, exactly.
- 1:29:32But don't hold on to that wish too long.
- 1:29:33Because, you know, he just be. Saying things sometimes and then
- 1:29:36also during the montage of like them watching the last concert,
- 1:29:40we also get like a voice over of like the Festa dinner, which
- 1:29:43many people see in many different ways.
- 1:29:46Also have an episode of that back in 2022 I did with Macy.
- 1:29:50We talked about proof of the Festa dinner.
- 1:29:52Go listen to that guys. But he was basically talking
- 1:29:55about when he first started to make music, he wanted to say
- 1:29:58something to the world. But the K pop system with this
- 1:30:01constant output of content, he started losing sense of who they
- 1:30:04are as a team and how, you know, he felt guilty even admitting
- 1:30:08that out loud. So I do remember that
- 1:30:10distinctly. You know, they also saw the part
- 1:30:12where like, he was crying, which we rarely, rarely see that man
- 1:30:16cry. So if he was crying, you know,
- 1:30:18it was serious. I'm Yungi crying because he was
- 1:30:21crying. Like that was why.
- 1:30:22The that was why the Fester didn't know that whole want to
- 1:30:25watch trauma. I know you didn't get in his
- 1:30:27head shaved, but that that was I have not watched that probably
- 1:30:30since 2022 and it was yeah, in the words of JK, I'm triggered
- 1:30:35again. That was.
- 1:30:35Another point where I was like bawling my eyes out.
- 1:30:39I'm like, no, yeah, let me just go on my phone and.
- 1:30:43Mute it and just just let it. Just look at him crying like if
- 1:30:47I see that man that his scrunched.
- 1:30:49Up little face. I just will lose my shit.
- 1:30:53Yeah, yeah. And also he's so guilty, as he
- 1:30:55was saying. It that he's like, I'm so sorry,
- 1:30:57but I just don't have like my well is dry and I'm just and
- 1:31:02then Hobie was drunk, crying. Listen it.
- 1:31:05Was a whole mess that dinner. Yeah, it was.
- 1:31:09And again like. I told you at the beginning,
- 1:31:11we're past that. Now it's a brand new day.
- 1:31:14OK, this time is finally bright. It's true.
- 1:31:18And. So we.
- 1:31:18See the hill heading. To the studio.
- 1:31:21Another car they there's a lot of car shots.
- 1:31:24I realized in this. So he talks about how Jimin had
- 1:31:28made a comment that night about why do they feel like an and I
- 1:31:32can't talk. I can't say this word.
- 1:31:34Inexplicable, yes. Paying in their heart every time
- 1:31:37they talk about BTS. Hobey stated that the
- 1:31:40tenderness, like deep longing and like the moments that move
- 1:31:43their heart because they all share that together is probably
- 1:31:46honestly why the reason they're still a team.
- 1:31:49And then we cut to Yungi passing by a theater where they held
- 1:31:52their first concert in LA during the filming of American House of
- 1:31:55Life about 11 years ago. And then he also talked about
- 1:31:58how music is a way to document who he is in that phase of his
- 1:32:02life. He also talked about how we wish
- 1:32:04they had a clear theme for this album.
- 1:32:07Now, before I go on, Shannon, have you ever watched American
- 1:32:11House of Life, like from beginning to end and not not
- 1:32:14want to watch it because of the, you know, beginning scenes of
- 1:32:17like the kidnapping, which I know people have problems with
- 1:32:21or just like it is crazy. Like, come on, let's be honest,
- 1:32:24it is. But have you watched it?
- 1:32:26I've seen I've seen various clips put together, but I
- 1:32:29definitely. Haven't watched like every
- 1:32:30episode from start to finish. And yeah, I don't really, I know
- 1:32:34how impactful it was for their journey.
- 1:32:36So I have seen like those kind of necessary clips.
- 1:32:38But yeah, I mean, I've seen, I've seen, I've seen bits and
- 1:32:41pieces. But.
- 1:32:42But yeah, it was it was definitely interesting watching
- 1:32:44them go back and, yeah, be in front of the the theater.
- 1:32:48The one clip I have seen over and over was the ones of them
- 1:32:51handing Flyers out to their performance to their very first
- 1:32:54concert. So yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:57So this is really, yeah, a lot of nostalgia in there, but yeah,
- 1:33:00OK. I was just wondering because I
- 1:33:02actually showed the whole thing to Gina.
- 1:33:04And I know I've changed her perspective on that.
- 1:33:07What I did and actually watching the whole thing, I think again
- 1:33:11it. Was a context thing.
- 1:33:12You see the clips that you see and it makes it paints it in one
- 1:33:17way. But when you actually watch the
- 1:33:19whole thing, it really does put into perspective like their
- 1:33:24roots, like where they learned to appreciate the things that
- 1:33:28they appreciate. And yes, there are cringe
- 1:33:30things. But I do think that like when it
- 1:33:33comes down to their work ethic and their understanding, I do
- 1:33:36think it plays a really big part and of their journey and it
- 1:33:42being in America again, it was a learning experience for them.
- 1:33:46They had to feel some discomfort and and adapt.
- 1:33:51And I think I think it was a worthwhile watch, but it is a
- 1:33:56show of its time. Like things have obviously
- 1:33:59changed now and things like that.
- 1:34:01But I think to who they met from like the hip hop roots to was
- 1:34:06important. Like there were actually some
- 1:34:08Nuggets of wisdom that artists gave to them that I think stuck
- 1:34:12with them. And I and I'd love that.
- 1:34:15I do. I did love that, yeah.
- 1:34:18It was worth it for me. Yeah, I think, I think I will
- 1:34:21watch it. Like it's not like I have been a
- 1:34:22version. To watch it because I think it's
- 1:34:24cringe like you said, I've heard it spoke about many times.
- 1:34:26I think the one, the one take away that I know from it is the
- 1:34:28fact that they, and again, I said like the the whole show
- 1:34:32was, I mean, it's pretty experimental because one, they
- 1:34:36this, this is a time when Big Hit was not hype.
- 1:34:38Big Hit did not have the funding.
- 1:34:40They you could. It's reflected in the way that
- 1:34:42it's filmed and the whole operation behind it.
- 1:34:44It is handheld cameras and a small team like getting together
- 1:34:47for it. And I think like it's, it's like
- 1:34:50representative. I think of it's almost like
- 1:34:52managing like we're in the back on it is like, I think you
- 1:34:56really managed like that already.
- 1:34:57BT s s expectations. Because when you think about
- 1:35:00what the landscape was like back then when Big Hit was in
- 1:35:03comparison to the original Big Three labels, there were groups
- 1:35:06that were debuting under those Big three labels that had a lot
- 1:35:09more freedom and a lot more ways to get themselves elevated to
- 1:35:12the top and a lot more opportunities.
- 1:35:14Whereas I think really what they tried to work on with BTS in
- 1:35:17those early days, I was humbling them and letting them know that
- 1:35:20this is going to be really hard graft.
- 1:35:22This is not going to be, you know, you you're not with a
- 1:35:24label that can get you in that, you know, your debut on the TV
- 1:35:28show. We can't get that for you.
- 1:35:29But we can do is we can drop you in, in a circumstance we can get
- 1:35:32people to give you, you know, some advice and give you their
- 1:35:34time and just let you decide how much energy and and effort you
- 1:35:39put into this. And I think yeah, like early,
- 1:35:41early BTS, they were, they were very hungry, but I think they
- 1:35:45also had their there was there was some like, you know, hard
- 1:35:48hitting realities there. I think, you know, but I think
- 1:35:50going into that they knew. But it definitely, I think there
- 1:35:53was no escaping like they were in for a very hard road.
- 1:35:55And I think that those foundations and have been set up
- 1:35:58for that is what gave them the endurance to overcome so many
- 1:36:00barriers that got them to where they are now.
- 1:36:02I think if they didn't have that at the beginning to get them to
- 1:36:05get that fire lit in them. I don't know if like the many
- 1:36:09challenges they faced in the in the years that followed, if they
- 1:36:12would have been so determined and so unified as a group to go
- 1:36:16just one, just another one just to just to knock down in front
- 1:36:19of us. And they were young.
- 1:36:21They were young and it showed. And it, I thought it was good
- 1:36:25for them though, because some of the artists really did lay into
- 1:36:28them and say, no, you that's not going to work like that's if you
- 1:36:33want to extend your life in this music business, you really have
- 1:36:38to lay eyes up in some ways. And I like that because it is
- 1:36:42it, it is a tough business. Music and entertainment is hard.
- 1:36:46And I, I don't know, I think I think you should give it a
- 1:36:49watch. I would love to hear your
- 1:36:51perspective. And I'm going to say something
- 1:36:52too, not to make both feel uncomfortable, but I.
- 1:36:54Have to say it because it actually goes into the next
- 1:36:57little segment. It's just all so funny and I
- 1:37:00just don't know if it's because of the way time has progressed.
- 1:37:03American House of Life for me, especially as a black person, it
- 1:37:08really showed like if they were like, OK, if you're going to do
- 1:37:11this hip hop thing, actually learn it from the people hip hop
- 1:37:15came from. Learn it from the black people
- 1:37:18that created it. You actually, they actually do
- 1:37:20like a small like history, like a game history of like certain
- 1:37:24events that happen in hip hop that teaches them not just like,
- 1:37:28oh, this is hip hop and this is hip hop dance.
- 1:37:30Like no, actually explaining to them the history, the people
- 1:37:35behind it, giving them all that context.
- 1:37:38You know, back when Big kid wasn't afraid to show that BTS
- 1:37:41and black people have a connection.
- 1:37:43Because this goes into the very controversial Audie dog
- 1:37:48animation that had Cape out because we get a seed.
- 1:37:52Where because they didn't have a theme, they were just completely
- 1:37:56stuck of like what they wanted to present, especially for the
- 1:37:58comeback. That woman that works there, I
- 1:38:00forgot. I think they show her title and
- 1:38:03her name is You think it's Beong Lee how you pronounce it?
- 1:38:06I'm not really sure, but they get them to the studio in LA and
- 1:38:10she introduces them the story of Adi Dong talking about how a
- 1:38:14group of Korean. Now, I don't know if they were
- 1:38:16all men because if you look at the picture and I haven't deep
- 1:38:20dive into the articles that I have for when we talk about the
- 1:38:23album because I'm going to bring this up again when I actually
- 1:38:25talk about the album with Lala and our other guests as well.
- 1:38:28Just for us being, you know, black and people of color.
- 1:38:31But she I don't think they were all men because it looks like in
- 1:38:35the picture there was a woman behind them.
- 1:38:37They say men, but I don't know if they were all men, but
- 1:38:40they're just Korean people that, you know, from the Jones dynasty
- 1:38:44back in 1896, came to America, received an education.
- 1:38:47It's kind of all she really talks about.
- 1:38:50Obviously talks about like the history of like Adi Dong for
- 1:38:52what it does for Korean people, what it means to them and that
- 1:38:56they recorded it in, you know, America as well as like the
- 1:38:59woman who helped them record it. But it's also like, I guess as
- 1:39:05an American, sometimes I think it's just our country where
- 1:39:09like, we don't get like the full story of like a lot of things on
- 1:39:12our history. And that's just because, you
- 1:39:14know, no one wants to, like, go on to death of like how terrible
- 1:39:16slavery was. I don't know at this point if it
- 1:39:19would change anything or not. But they try to hide A lot from
- 1:39:21us for that specific reason to not make changes.
- 1:39:24But I guess watching them, I also didn't realize, like with
- 1:39:27audio Dong, like they didn't know that they were generally
- 1:39:29surprised because when she was talking about the story, like
- 1:39:32Nam Tuna asked the question when she's like, you know, what song
- 1:39:34this is? And he's like, what song is it?
- 1:39:36And then Jimin brought up Audio Dong.
- 1:39:38Like, they didn't know that history behind, you know, the
- 1:39:42story and the creation of it being recorded for the first
- 1:39:45time. So I just thought that was very
- 1:39:47interesting. And now it kind of shows into
- 1:39:49that animation. But at the same time, it's kind
- 1:39:52of like, I get this album is about them, but it's also one of
- 1:39:57those things where it's like, you still could have at least
- 1:40:00told them the history because there's a significance of why
- 1:40:05those Korean men were able to get to America.
- 1:40:08Like they would not have been accepted anywhere else if it was
- 1:40:11not for Howard, especially being a university.
- 1:40:15That accepted not only freed slaves and black people but
- 1:40:17opened their doors to other races, especially down that
- 1:40:22time. That was like what I think
- 1:40:24someone said seven years after slavery officially got abolished
- 1:40:28heading into Jim Crow era where like those Korean men would have
- 1:40:31been looked at as you know, colored, call them colored back
- 1:40:34then. So it's black people, other
- 1:40:36derogatory names for us and colored way before civil rights
- 1:40:40movement that then happened till 1964.
- 1:40:43So and, and I think that's telling too, that.
- 1:40:47Even their country is not educating people.
- 1:40:51You know what I'm saying? Like in in if they didn't even
- 1:40:54know the history of Ariang, then I don't know.
- 1:40:59It's just other countries also have education gaps, apparently.
- 1:41:04Yeah. I mean, I can speak from the
- 1:41:06context of someone. Who is he?
- 1:41:07Isn't in the USII know about the history of Howard because I've
- 1:41:13watched over the years, like various documentaries that have
- 1:41:16like mentioned Howard, But I think it is one of those things
- 1:41:19that like it's absolutely a part of the original, like our round
- 1:41:23seven story, but it's it's one of those details that I think
- 1:41:27definitely has a lot of impact within an American context.
- 1:41:31And so I can kind of see how it's wasn't like a point of
- 1:41:35like, Oh, and to top it off, like it was at Howard University
- 1:41:39where like, you know, it was, you know, the only, it was one
- 1:41:42of the only that's the accepted people that were, you know, not
- 1:41:45white. And I think that, yeah, I mean,
- 1:41:47I know that the, you know, the, the conversation is still
- 1:41:49ongoing about the, the animation.
- 1:41:51And I know a lot of people, particularly, you know, like,
- 1:41:52like black armies are still feeling like the hurt from
- 1:41:55feeling that exclusion. I think like the way that I sort
- 1:41:58of reflects on it and, you know, the weight of my opinion is
- 1:42:01obviously different as a as a white woman without not
- 1:42:03personally affected by that. But you know, BTS are not the
- 1:42:06team that created that animation.
- 1:42:08They aren't the ones who were responsible for putting it out.
- 1:42:10And so their lack of education on that specific personal thing,
- 1:42:14like ultimately, I I put the I put, I put the accountability at
- 1:42:17the door of the team that put that together is just being able
- 1:42:20to do just a little bit of research and just a small touch
- 1:42:23up to to that would have made everyone happy.
- 1:42:25And it is just a yeah, just a crying showing that that that
- 1:42:28didn't happen in that sense. But I think also like a lot of
- 1:42:31people, I think can make the assumption that like, I think it
- 1:42:34was what was interesting is, is the fact that watching that the
- 1:42:37Adeline like concepts didn't come from BTS.
- 1:42:40It was pitched to them by the creative team.
- 1:42:44And I think that's something that people can can sometimes
- 1:42:46assume with BTS is because they're so hands on with their
- 1:42:50work that every kind of idea is comes from them.
- 1:42:53But actually like, no, like they were, they were struggling.
- 1:42:56They didn't really know like what to match it.
- 1:42:58And the idea of, you know, joining up this idea of, you
- 1:43:02know, Korean legacy and, you know, a song that represents
- 1:43:06like longing. And then it has this like real,
- 1:43:08like deep untranslatable Korean element to it.
- 1:43:13It it didn't actually come from them.
- 1:43:14You could tell. I think they were really like
- 1:43:16into it and really enthusiastic. And that was what helped things
- 1:43:19come together. But yeah, the original idea, it
- 1:43:21was a it was a corporate business pitch from a creative
- 1:43:23team of hype. And I think that that is the
- 1:43:25reality of how a lot of this stuff gets made.
- 1:43:27So as of a lot of things, this documentary, I think it was a
- 1:43:29really good insight for both armies and completely new fans
- 1:43:33to to understand how this album came to be.
- 1:43:35Yeah, I mean, I had other issues with that animation too.
- 1:43:39Because not only just like the historical part of it with like
- 1:43:41when it comes to America and black people, and of course
- 1:43:44there's going to be people telling me like your, your
- 1:43:47history is not the only history. I know that.
- 1:43:49But I also feel like it discredits BT s s legacy that
- 1:43:52they were trying to portray or try to highlight so much with
- 1:43:56this theme. Because even in the animation,
- 1:43:58not only the inaccuracy of like Howard and like the students
- 1:44:00that actually went there in the representation of them, it
- 1:44:03discredits his BTS to me. It discredits their hard work
- 1:44:06because they weren't super popular.
- 1:44:09Like right out. The gate because it shows them
- 1:44:11on the stage like performing wings in 2013.
- 1:44:14I'm like, no, like Shannon had just mentioned when we were
- 1:44:17talking about American House of life, like the company was not
- 1:44:20in good standing. Like and if you also watch their
- 1:44:22documentary on Disney plus, they talked about after because you
- 1:44:26know when they were doing American House of life, that's
- 1:44:28when they were recording dark and wild and how they had to
- 1:44:31make a pivot because the album sales were so bad.
- 1:44:35And this was way before like they did a bigger push outside
- 1:44:38of a Korea and into the West. Obviously, I'm sure there's some
- 1:44:42people like foreigners who are into K pop listening to them,
- 1:44:45but like it's not the way that it is now.
- 1:44:48And it just doesn't show that connection of like the
- 1:44:50collaboration that we see heavily in this album with like
- 1:44:54outside producers and everything and the people that help them,
- 1:44:57like with American Hustle life, get them to where they are now.
- 1:45:01That's just one thing I, you know, I wish I would have seen
- 1:45:04that more because I did have like an expectation differently
- 1:45:07of this documentary as a whole. Like I was expecting to see more
- 1:45:10of a breakdown of like how they picked each song or like the
- 1:45:14recording of each song. I would have loved to seem like
- 1:45:16again, working with Black people, our guests will tell us
- 1:45:20more of like the actual black people credited on this album,
- 1:45:23but it's like you had one of the most respected hip hop producers
- 1:45:27on there Mike Will made. I would have loved to have seen,
- 1:45:30I know it's probably like a company thing, they reached out
- 1:45:32to him, but I would have loved to see like the re interactions
- 1:45:35if he was there recording with you guys, like how that came to
- 1:45:38be, how that collaboration came to be.
- 1:45:40I did see there was 1 scene where I guess there was you
- 1:45:43know, 1 black guy in the studio helping them guy, but I just
- 1:45:45would have liked to see that a little bit more.
- 1:45:47Kind of like the scene that we saw with P Dog and Jimin, if
- 1:45:51that makes sense. No, I agree with that.
- 1:45:53I also and we'll talk a. Little bit, even seeing Nam Jun
- 1:45:57with the lyricist that he was working with, I loved that.
- 1:46:01I loved their conversation. And I was like, I really wish
- 1:46:05that there would have been more sessions like that where it
- 1:46:08showed them working with these people and trying to form some
- 1:46:13kind of like, you know, correlations with their own
- 1:46:16lives because obviously he was struggling with that and she was
- 1:46:19helping. I was like, I want more of that
- 1:46:21because I think those collaborative sessions are what
- 1:46:25make BTS who they are because it, like you said, it started
- 1:46:29with American Hustle life and it has just gone on gone like
- 1:46:32continued. And I think showing that would
- 1:46:35have been so much better. But you know, I mean, that's the
- 1:46:39only thing. But we can.
- 1:46:41Go ahead and move on. Like I said, I'll talk more
- 1:46:43about the animation again when we talk about the album.
- 1:46:46So, you know, we're back into the studio after they all
- 1:46:48decided to go along with the theme for Adirong.
- 1:46:51They're in like another session basically.
- 1:46:54I don't know if this is the same woman who pitched it to them.
- 1:46:56I hear her voice but I don't like see her face.
- 1:46:59So they didn't show her name again.
- 1:47:01So I'm assuming it's her asking them like how the progress is
- 1:47:03going, how they did choose 14 songs and that at the time Body
- 1:47:08to body is confirmed to actually be on the album.
- 1:47:11And the company wants Adirong like the actual one of the
- 1:47:15recordings. It's not like the original
- 1:47:17recording. It's like one of the renditions
- 1:47:19of it where there's women singing, but they want a sample
- 1:47:23of that song into, you know, one of the songs and they chose body
- 1:47:27to body to do it. Normal has also been confirmed
- 1:47:30and they can start writing lyrics on that, which Gina
- 1:47:33mentioned a little bit, but we'll get into later and then
- 1:47:37more discourse. So kind of like what Shannon was
- 1:47:40talking about with the companies, this is when Yungi
- 1:47:42had actually brought up how they want to add more Korean lyrics
- 1:47:45into the songs, especially on the rap verses.
- 1:47:49And then Nam June does add that it would be appropriate more
- 1:47:52like add extra sense of authenticity because of the
- 1:47:57theming of the album and naming it Adi Dong.
- 1:48:00So then we get introduced to Nicole Kim.
- 1:48:03I mentioned earlier a lot of armies already know her because
- 1:48:05she used to work on their A&R team and I think other things as
- 1:48:09well, but now she is the VP of Big Hit.
- 1:48:12I mean, kudos. I'm listen, I'm going to always
- 1:48:14cheer, especially in a country like Korea, knowing how they
- 1:48:16treat women. Any woman in a position like
- 1:48:18that, I'm going to chew you on as long as you are not like a
- 1:48:22woman who shall not be named. That gave a lot of drama to Hive
- 1:48:25during Milk BTS's military service.
- 1:48:28One of the users, not like the other.
- 1:48:30Exactly. But she mentions.
- 1:48:33That she understands, like, the need for authenticity and how
- 1:48:36it's important. But if they want the album to go
- 1:48:38global, they need to try to inquire as much English as
- 1:48:41possible. And then Namju brings up like,
- 1:48:43they're running out of time and then don't really have time to
- 1:48:46do things like get the pronunciation right in English,
- 1:48:49especially since it's not their native tongue.
- 1:48:51But then we see them like working on like Alien and like
- 1:48:55getting corrected with the pronunciations of like English
- 1:48:59because that seems like that was something they're very worried
- 1:49:00about, which I understand that's not their native tongue.
- 1:49:03I'm sure with the military they didn't really have time to like
- 1:49:06practice like how we said we were going to practice Korean.
- 1:49:09Did I do that? No, I tried.
- 1:49:12I go back and forth, but it's like, listen, life gets in the
- 1:49:15way. And I'm sure it was like that
- 1:49:17for them. But then they also, not only the
- 1:49:20pronunciation, worried about like having more mature lyrics
- 1:49:23and to their songs. And of course is one of the
- 1:49:27things that caused a lot of online discourse, especially
- 1:49:30towards Nicole. And I don't want to sound like
- 1:49:34I'm like a company stand because anything you say that's against
- 1:49:36BTS, people label you a company stand.
- 1:49:39I understand where she comes from on a business sense.
- 1:49:44This goes back to when I was talking about what Hobie had
- 1:49:46mentioned about. He feels stressed because he
- 1:49:49wants to make the music freely. But unfortunately just the way
- 1:49:54we've business and like monetize, like the arts just in
- 1:49:57general, there are certain games you have to play.
- 1:50:01Like unfortunately we have to be realistic.
- 1:50:04There is a reason why BTS had pivot like I'd mentioned earlier
- 1:50:07from when they were doing hip hop from like School Love
- 1:50:10Affair, Dark and Wild, their debut to when we got most
- 1:50:14beautiful moment in life. I don't know if they would be
- 1:50:17where they are if they didn't make that switch.
- 1:50:19It did unfortunately probably have to come down not only of
- 1:50:22things they want to express like at the time of them like growing
- 1:50:25up and all that, but we also do have to think it probably was
- 1:50:28because of a marketing strategy to like make sure they didn't
- 1:50:31fail as a group. To make sure they weren't one of
- 1:50:33those people where they just had to fill out their seven-year
- 1:50:35contract or a member maybe had left before the seven years
- 1:50:38ended and then they disbanded again.
- 1:50:41Most people don't want to admit English is technically like
- 1:50:45universal language, especially when it comes to business.
- 1:50:49It's just a sad reality. I know people are comparing a
- 1:50:52lot to like Bad Bunny and Spanish now.
- 1:50:54I got a wake up call when I had talked to Shannon one time in
- 1:50:57the discord server because I didn't know Bad Bunny isn't as
- 1:51:00popular in like the UK like he is in the US.
- 1:51:03We have a lot more Spanish people in the US.
- 1:51:05Like it's literally like I'm pretty sure the second language,
- 1:51:08you know, we have people telling you that it's not.
- 1:51:11I'm pretty sure it's the second most spoken language behind
- 1:51:13English. So that makes sense for him.
- 1:51:16I'm sure in like other like Spanish speaking like maybe your
- 1:51:19countries as well or ones that like, you know, enjoy the Latin
- 1:51:24like music. But still, I'm not sure if it's
- 1:51:26really fair to compare like someone like Bad Bunny, who has
- 1:51:30a better chance of like making it worldwide because he does
- 1:51:33have the advantage of being American.
- 1:51:35Yes, he's Puerto Rican, but Puerto Rico is, you know, a
- 1:51:39territory. I hate saying that word under
- 1:51:41America compared to BTS who are from a small country like Korea.
- 1:51:47Not so much now, but back then when they were starting out,
- 1:51:50that was just the reality of it. So it's like more people are
- 1:51:54willing to listen to a song that may be like in Spanish than they
- 1:51:56are and like in Korean, unless you're like into like those
- 1:52:00Asian language, like, you know, how people and like I'm included
- 1:52:03in that like use like anime as a way to kind of like gateway into
- 1:52:06like K pop or like verse, vice versa, things like that.
- 1:52:09So like I was already used to like consuming some type of
- 1:52:13like, you know, Asian entertainment.
- 1:52:16But I understand, you know, Nam Junes point as well, as well as
- 1:52:19the others, like they are Korean, they're more comfortable
- 1:52:22in Korea. You don't want to get into way
- 1:52:24of their creative process because obviously they still
- 1:52:27want to the artists that they are, they want to stay true to
- 1:52:30themselves and the work that they put out.
- 1:52:32But at the end of the day, to get to where they are and to
- 1:52:35still continue to go, they do have to make compromises in
- 1:52:38order to still not only make money to live because at the end
- 1:52:41of the day, guys, this is still a job, but to continue putting
- 1:52:44out music if they want to put out music.
- 1:52:46And I was thinking of this too, before we started recording, a
- 1:52:49great example of that outside of music that I was thinking of.
- 1:52:51Like, look at my podcast. I'm doing this 100% on my own
- 1:52:55free. I can basically say whatever I
- 1:52:57want. I don't know if that'd be
- 1:52:59different if like a company had bought me out and like, you
- 1:53:02know, I have people to answer to as far as like what would be
- 1:53:06safe to like not lose an audience, what to gain an
- 1:53:08audience. Another example, there's a very
- 1:53:11famous, if you're into podcasts like Black podcast that I listen
- 1:53:14to called The Read. They've been out since 2013 as
- 1:53:17well. Started off independent and they
- 1:53:19became very popular to where, you know, now they're like a
- 1:53:22brand, you know, have management and all that.
- 1:53:25Now they're at a point where both the hosts have their own
- 1:53:28separate shows. So they still do the Read, but
- 1:53:29they have their own shows. But like how me, I was telling
- 1:53:33Gina and Lala when we last recorded how I didn't like the
- 1:53:36new way podcast are with like the video podcast.
- 1:53:39What are the hosts? Crystal actually talked about
- 1:53:41that. She talked about how she hates
- 1:53:43with her new show that she has to get on camera and like look
- 1:53:46pretty and like watch her facial expressions because that's what
- 1:53:50was suggested to her by her manager.
- 1:53:52And she had to come to a compromise to like, OK, let's do
- 1:53:55video podcast where we upload them on YouTube for like 6
- 1:53:58months. And if we find like the stats on
- 1:54:01audio are bigger than the stats on video, maybe we could talk
- 1:54:05about again, like, I don't have to do video podcasts anymore.
- 1:54:08But it's also just things like that.
- 1:54:10Unfortunately, the reality is with the way entertainment and
- 1:54:14just the art, subjective or not, if you want to make it a career
- 1:54:19like that, you got to play into the business.
- 1:54:22Yeah, yeah, I've got lots. I've got lots of thoughts on
- 1:54:25the. Whole because this did cause a
- 1:54:27stir and this was one of those things that was in that Vulture
- 1:54:29article that I think wasn't it's not it wasn't taken out of
- 1:54:34context by the Vulture article. As we said before, the Vulture
- 1:54:37article had did take several things out of context.
- 1:54:39I think were quite unfair in the way that they sort of cause
- 1:54:41drama. I think it is true that, you
- 1:54:44know, Nicole Kim did say that, you know, we should think about
- 1:54:47accessibility and we should think about, you know, try
- 1:54:50trying to do it. I think what's interesting in
- 1:54:52the way that it's it's done, unlike the things that surround
- 1:54:55that conversation in the documentary is you have Nam Jin
- 1:54:59and and the others talking about it being authentic and the
- 1:55:03actual like the idea of I think it's Jimmy who says in a
- 1:55:06conversation after like, look at the end of the day, if it sucks,
- 1:55:08it sucks. Like we can't like we we can't
- 1:55:10make it suddenly better. I think like the other thing
- 1:55:13that was, yeah, like surrounding that I thought was interesting
- 1:55:16was watching them try and figure out how to fit English words
- 1:55:21into the beat of a track. And actually there was, I think
- 1:55:251. Like I can't remember, I can't
- 1:55:26remember which which member said it, but someone said that, you
- 1:55:29know, we're trying to say this line in English, but if we said
- 1:55:32it in Korea, we'd get there. We wouldn't be mumbling our
- 1:55:35words or like we wouldn't be trying to say it super fast
- 1:55:37because this phrase is much simpler to pronounce and say in
- 1:55:40Korean. But then they had that kind of
- 1:55:42pressure of adding more English. So there's like a, there's a
- 1:55:44technical side to it of like structurally when you're
- 1:55:47creating a track, like being able to put English and Korean
- 1:55:51together and which one it works most effectively for the track.
- 1:55:55And then I think we get to kind of the symbolism of like English
- 1:55:58versus Korean and what it means. And then we start to get into
- 1:56:01the weeds of this broader conversation that is following
- 1:56:04BTS for the longest time, which is about them, you know, giving
- 1:56:08in to westernization, about them selling out and all of these.
- 1:56:12You know, the conversation that started around this since our
- 1:56:14around came out was bringing that argument back up again,
- 1:56:18that if BTS starts singing more in English, are they quote UN
- 1:56:21quote selling out? Are they becoming westernized?
- 1:56:23And it's that constant push and pull that I think people get
- 1:56:27quite sensitive, sensitive about not wanting to feel like BTS is
- 1:56:30losing their identity. But I think in it within that
- 1:56:34there's this marriage, that identity, that BTS is identity
- 1:56:38equals singing in Korean. And I think identity is so much
- 1:56:41deeper than that, like a cultural identity and what makes
- 1:56:44them them. And I think his album is a great
- 1:56:46highlight of exactly what culture and what identity means
- 1:56:49and how it goes beyond just the language you sing in and the way
- 1:56:53you dress. It goes into your experiences,
- 1:56:55the way you approach situations, the way you reflect on
- 1:56:57situations throughout your career.
- 1:56:59And yeah, I think like, do I do I agree with Nicole Kim that if
- 1:57:03they sing in English, suddenly the world will open up for them?
- 1:57:06No, I think that BTS can be very successful and have been very
- 1:57:10successful in majority English. But I also get where she's
- 1:57:13coming from. When you're looking at the cold,
- 1:57:15hard data of, you know, dynamite, butter, PTD all being
- 1:57:19in English and then being able to very clearly see that when
- 1:57:23they sang in English, even as an experiment, even as something to
- 1:57:26fill their days when the tour was cancelled and they had to do
- 1:57:29something, it raked in a lot my numbers and it rated a lot of
- 1:57:32attention. It was massively well
- 1:57:33performing. So from a business perspective,
- 1:57:35you look at all English equals big reach, big profit, big
- 1:57:40everything. So you would from a business
- 1:57:42perspective, want to replicate that.
- 1:57:44But you know, we might we'll probably come back onto this.
- 1:57:46But I think like the relationship between hype and
- 1:57:49BTS and big hit and BTS is very professional and I think that
- 1:57:54they they know what they're doing.
- 1:57:55I think that, you know, even though we see a glimpse of this
- 1:57:58conversation about, you know, it's not like that.
- 1:58:01There's no, there isn't going to be there won't, we won't see in
- 1:58:04the documentary because I don't think that conversation ever
- 1:58:06existed where hype, someone from hype, someone from big cake says
- 1:58:09you have no choice. You must sing in English.
- 1:58:11You must do that. I think it's always for them.
- 1:58:13It's a suggestion and it's it's it's feedback and they take it
- 1:58:17on board or they don't. And yeah, it's a it's a very
- 1:58:20complicated topic, but I think that people definitely got quite
- 1:58:22upset about it and not always. And I think there are there are
- 1:58:26reasons that I think are valid behind it, but I also think a
- 1:58:29lot of stuff has been taken and to the extreme.
- 1:58:32But that's my take, sorry. I'm just like taking it all in.
- 1:58:36My brain is like absorbing. I think that I'm I'm a more
- 1:58:42creative minded person. So at first I was like really
- 1:58:45kind of pissed off. I'm not going to lie.
- 1:58:47I was watching it. I'm like this woman is it's just
- 1:58:50the way she was sitting there. And I think part of it is like
- 1:58:52the way they filmed her because it's almost like she was like
- 1:58:55telling them and then it would switch to their faces.
- 1:58:58So it gave very much like she's the big bad lady who is like
- 1:59:03telling them what to do and corporate comes in.
- 1:59:09And I think too like at 1st and then we.
- 1:59:12I had a discussion earlier with Simi with this and it really did
- 1:59:16like put into perspective like how it was filmed.
- 1:59:19So I think that was at first it seemed very abrasive.
- 1:59:22And then when you actually breakdown what she's actually
- 1:59:26saying and then you put it in the context of what Hobie said
- 1:59:31about, you know, being systematic versus being free
- 1:59:35artist. I think I'm back to on what he
- 1:59:39must have went through when he was trying to come up where
- 1:59:42stuff like he had he wanted to have free reign of some of the
- 1:59:46stuff he probably wanted to do on the stage and the company was
- 1:59:49like, no, bro, that's not going to like be feasible.
- 1:59:52So I think too, he probably had some stuff slapped on him too
- 1:59:58with his tour and it was like fresh in his brain because
- 2:00:02that's what he, because you know, you're creative artist,
- 2:00:05you want to do amazing things. And like Nam Jean has said, you
- 2:00:09know, I want our music to communicate.
- 2:00:12So naturally finding the way to communicate what they want to do
- 2:00:17with the music has to come with different languages and thinking
- 2:00:22of language barriers not only with them, but with.
- 2:00:25Their audience. So I do understand now.
- 2:00:28Like at first I was really pissed off and I'll be
- 2:00:31transparent, I was like, this woman doesn't understand.
- 2:00:34But then when you think about like we probably wouldn't have,
- 2:00:38like you said, the music that we have or have had, the
- 2:00:42productions we've had and content we've had, if it wasn't
- 2:00:45for someone actually communicating to them what was
- 2:00:49possible and then finding compromise.
- 2:00:52Because there are still things that we're getting that are very
- 2:00:55much them. Because at the end of the day,
- 2:00:57this album is very much them and the production that gave us is
- 2:01:02very much them. But yeah, the business side has
- 2:01:06to come into play if they want to be successful because artists
- 2:01:10can't, are not capable. Like creative minded people that
- 2:01:14I know of are not as capable in the business side and well
- 2:01:19versed which is why they hire a team.
- 2:01:23Yeah, to do do the things. That's why you have APR.
- 2:01:27Team. That's why you have a stylist
- 2:01:29team, because if you didn't have those things working with you as
- 2:01:34an artist, you would have no clue what to do.
- 2:01:36It would be huge mess. So at the end of the.
- 2:01:40Day like that, that's why they hire.
- 2:01:42The teams to do that because as they're there of course, to make
- 2:01:47music and be performers, but they probably are not well
- 2:01:50versed in the other things that they need to, so they need
- 2:01:53those. So they couldn't function as a
- 2:01:56huge team and that's probably why they thank their staff so
- 2:01:59much because they do the things that they can't.
- 2:02:02So at the end of the day, we deem the Nicole's in our lives
- 2:02:07to bring us down to earth and say, listen, you want all these
- 2:02:11things, but you can't get there unless you have other things put
- 2:02:15into. So she's there to like, bring
- 2:02:18them back to Earth in a. Way.
- 2:02:20Let's do that also shows like how you have to.
- 2:02:22Really in a situation, especially where BTS is, you
- 2:02:25have to work, you have to learn how to work with other people.
- 2:02:27Like because we've seen in this documentary as well, like when
- 2:02:30it comes to like song choices, I do wish we saw a little bit
- 2:02:32more. But like even they butt heads
- 2:02:34creatively. So it's like if they're butting
- 2:02:36heads creatively, you imagine the heads they're butting with
- 2:02:40like creative versus business. Like you do need outside of
- 2:02:43opinions where like you think this one thing is great.
- 2:02:46And it's like, you know, sometimes by talking for myself
- 2:02:50as a creative, like you could get a little stubborn.
- 2:02:52OK, you don't want to hear what anyone else has to say.
- 2:02:55Like, but then you do have to look at it at a broader
- 2:02:58perspective because Nam Tune always brings up, you know, once
- 2:03:02you put something out there, especially when it's creative,
- 2:03:04like it is up to the person who was taking that in, you know,
- 2:03:07they have their own interpretation of it.
- 2:03:09So we've also seen that with the discourse of this album, if they
- 2:03:13met one thing in their lyrics, someone who's listening to this
- 2:03:15can, you know, interpret it in a whole different way.
- 2:03:19So it's like also having to think in that broader sense of
- 2:03:22like, making sure you don't upset yourself too much when you
- 2:03:25put this out there, what people might say.
- 2:03:28So yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 2:03:30Artists like as as. People are creatives are
- 2:03:34stubborn, they are self deprecating.
- 2:03:36They are one track minded sometimes when they have a
- 2:03:39vision and they have something that they want to bring to life
- 2:03:42like they are, yeah, they they, they want it and that, but
- 2:03:45that's why that's what that's why that's why writers have beta
- 2:03:48readers. That's why focus groups exist.
- 2:03:51That's why in any kind of business capacity, before you
- 2:03:53rush in with an idea, you get feedback from people and they
- 2:03:58have I think a really good feedback systems set up.
- 2:04:00And that's all point of it's feedback.
- 2:04:02And if you you incorporate it or you don't incorporate it.
- 2:04:06And yeah, as I said, I've, I think I've said this before,
- 2:04:08like I think that hoping that BCS will be in a situation where
- 2:04:13they are never challenged and they are never questioned.
- 2:04:16I don't think actually considers them at their at their best.
- 2:04:20Like it doesn't make them, they will not be better artists for
- 2:04:23never being challenged. Because we can put in many
- 2:04:26examples in, you know, celebrity culture and around when you can
- 2:04:29see, you can, you can tell the artists that are surrounded by
- 2:04:33sycophants and surrounded by yes people.
- 2:04:36And you can find and you can tell the artists who have taken
- 2:04:39on board feedback, thought about other perspectives, been hyper
- 2:04:42vigilant of their fan base, of what they want, what they
- 2:04:44prioritize alongside looking at cold, hard data of what does
- 2:04:48well and what doesn't, and being able to balance them.
- 2:04:51And yeah, this documentary I think really highlighted the BTS
- 2:04:54over the latter. They are not the former, and we
- 2:04:56don't ever want them to be. Exactly.
- 2:05:00So continuing on, like Gina had mentioned earlier, we do see,
- 2:05:05you know, the collaborative work a little bit as well.
- 2:05:07When Nam June is talking to one of the songwriters that helps
- 2:05:11them, or I think her name is a chick writing the lyrics for
- 2:05:13Normal. And you also see again, how
- 2:05:16stressed he's getting her writing it.
- 2:05:18And it just goes into the things we've just been talking about,
- 2:05:20like how you need other people to kind of help you like align
- 2:05:25and focus. Because as fans and nominees
- 2:05:28talked about it before, we know he gets into his head a lot.
- 2:05:31So it's also kind of just like meeting certain type of people
- 2:05:35that will help you, but also like get your mind focused.
- 2:05:38So like she kept asking him a lot of questions of like, what
- 2:05:41do you want to focus on, like talking about?
- 2:05:43And then like when he was saying it, this is like, you know, just
- 2:05:46focus on that of like what you want to relay and the lyrics.
- 2:05:49So I really enjoyed that scene. And then there is a moment to
- 2:05:54like when he, I'm assuming it's during like the same writing
- 2:05:57session because he's wearing that same shirt.
- 2:05:58He gets up to, like, stretch, taking a minute, but then he
- 2:06:01starts, like, talking about how he hates being stuck in a
- 2:06:03routine and being in the military, you know, kind of felt
- 2:06:06like a dream. And he felt like he was being
- 2:06:09stuck in a routine. So it was really hard for him.
- 2:06:12And then, you know, being the little nerd that he is, he
- 2:06:14breaks up old Greece. I'm thinking about time in two
- 2:06:17ways, Chronos and Kairos. Is that how you pronounce that?
- 2:06:22Kairos? OK, I I.
- 2:06:24Don't know much about Greek. Mythology.
- 2:06:25Sorry, guys, but he was basically stating how like when
- 2:06:29he was in the military doing the same thing over and over, that
- 2:06:31was Kronos to him. But the time that he spent in LA
- 2:06:34with his members bringing up, you know, he they're like a
- 2:06:37second family to him. That felt like Kairos.
- 2:06:41So I also had to Google, I guess Kronos is like quantitative,
- 2:06:44linear and sequential time measured by the clock.
- 2:06:47So like the minutes, hours, years where Kairos is
- 2:06:50qualitative. So like the right time,
- 2:06:53opportune, special or divine moments in time.
- 2:06:56Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:06:57I think like, yeah, I remember. Yeah, this this got my nerd
- 2:07:01brain going and it came from Namja and it was even more.
- 2:07:03But yeah, I, I studied like ancient Greek, like mythology
- 2:07:07and things for a long time. And then I did a dissertation
- 2:07:10based around like ancient Greek epic.
- 2:07:12But like, yeah, it's an interesting that he brings it up
- 2:07:15because I think it just, it really frames, I think really
- 2:07:17nicely. The like the time crunch they
- 2:07:20were under and I think the deadlines that they were all put
- 2:07:23under of like you've got two weeks left, you've got one day
- 2:07:25left, you got a week left and everything.
- 2:07:26But actually, I think if you, and it kind of goes back to what
- 2:07:29we're saying earlier about when you see them sort of like
- 2:07:32goofing around. But ultimately I think the
- 2:07:34philosophy of it is that, yeah, we might need time to goof
- 2:07:36around. And that might not be an
- 2:07:38efficient use of time, but it might be an effective use of
- 2:07:40time because if we just spend that time relaxing, suddenly we
- 2:07:43have a breakthrough. And I think that's really like,
- 2:07:46I think that's a really good reflection of what the creative
- 2:07:47process is like. You can try and push yourself to
- 2:07:50do something like within a certain time time, but
- 2:07:53ultimately sometimes like sparks, like sparks of
- 2:07:56inspiration, calm. And yeah, just the idea of like
- 2:08:00them spending like effective time together rather than
- 2:08:03efficient time. I think it's just like a really
- 2:08:05nice just a really nice thing that I think they were grounded
- 2:08:08to them in that process because it was a lot of pressure for
- 2:08:10them to suddenly get an album out in like, you know, like in
- 2:08:13in a song camp. Yeah.
- 2:08:16I mean, once again, I love Nanjing so much.
- 2:08:20I will say special mention to my.
- 2:08:22Husband. Who watched this with me?
- 2:08:25He was so enthralled with Nam Jun talking about time.
- 2:08:31He, he is a very business minded person.
- 2:08:34He's in business. And so, but he was like, he was
- 2:08:38even like, I want to work this this segment into one of his
- 2:08:44meetings, like one of his presentations, because he's
- 2:08:47like, this is such an effective way to talk even about business
- 2:08:51and about how business works and how like the time you put into
- 2:08:56something like he nerded out for like a good like I had to pause
- 2:09:02to let him nerd out about Nam Gene and this whole
- 2:09:05conversation. And I think too like that is
- 2:09:09such it was such an interesting thing to think about.
- 2:09:13And I was like, Nam Gene, why are you writing lyrics about
- 2:09:17this then? Like you should be writing all
- 2:09:19of this down right now and like using it.
- 2:09:23But I do I think too like the fact that he was thinking about
- 2:09:29this too and writing normal at the same time.
- 2:09:32He was probably in such a frame of mind of like, because he
- 2:09:37because when he was talking about routine and then normal
- 2:09:41and it all like, and he's like, I wish because the there's a
- 2:09:45line in the song that says about being able to turn your brain
- 2:09:49off essentially. And he said, I can never turn it
- 2:09:52off. It would be so nice.
- 2:09:54And I think too, that's made him think about.
- 2:09:56I wish I could pause time and like be in this moment of like
- 2:10:01peace and like being with the people that I care about.
- 2:10:04But you can't do that. You have to keep moving forward
- 2:10:07because something they kept talking about in this
- 2:10:10documentary was essentially moving forward.
- 2:10:13You've got to keep going. You got to keep moving.
- 2:10:15Like you can't we roll time back so we have more time to work on
- 2:10:19this. We have to like keep going.
- 2:10:21And I think that like, I don't know it just that whole segment
- 2:10:25that they filmed, I was like, this is so good.
- 2:10:27But this is so telling. Again, I like how Naam June like
- 2:10:31processes everything and why sometimes like we all get into a
- 2:10:37rut. Like we all have these thoughts
- 2:10:39and feelings at the different parts of our life.
- 2:10:41And again, it's like bringing the human element from them,
- 2:10:45like knowing at the end of the day they're still human even
- 2:10:48though they are the most iconic group or whatever.
- 2:10:51Like they're still human men that are doing a job and living
- 2:10:55their lives to the best of their abilities.
- 2:10:59Yeah, exactly. So.
- 2:11:02More discourse because we get into the scene where they're
- 2:11:08actually discussing 2 point O Mente is actually talking about
- 2:11:12how the lyrics and so he talks about how their lyrics need to
- 2:11:17evolve basically not only having lyrics that only speak to them
- 2:11:21and won't be like heard by anyone else.
- 2:11:23So basically if you're like listening to a song, it's not
- 2:11:25relatable. So because again, Nicole also
- 2:11:29getting dragged online, she mentions like the old songs like
- 2:11:32on and Black Swan weren't very relatable.
- 2:11:35And I also feel like people are passing over like when she says
- 2:11:39this, Tay actually agreed with her that those songs weren't
- 2:11:44relatable. And again, looking at the
- 2:11:47English trio that we had, were they deep meaningful songs?
- 2:11:50No, but they were like songs anyone could listen to, dance
- 2:11:53to, etcetera, etcetera. Now, I did go back and like at
- 2:11:57least skim through like the lyrics for On and Black Swan.
- 2:12:00And like, I understand what she means because it's like, if
- 2:12:03you're not like deep in the fandom of ARMY to understand
- 2:12:07what they're talking about or you haven't either gone through
- 2:12:10like any type of hardships with on or like a like a creative
- 2:12:14death that they talk about in Black Swan, Like you won't
- 2:12:16really relate it. You might think it's a nice
- 2:12:18song, but it won't like speak to you.
- 2:12:20Like Black Swan speaks to me as a creative because I also went
- 2:12:24through that. I like to draw.
- 2:12:26I don't draw as much as I used to.
- 2:12:28And I wish I had the time, but because of like work and being
- 2:12:30an adult, that was kind of like my artistic death.
- 2:12:33And I almost kind of went through that with this podcast.
- 2:12:37So it's kind of just like things like that.
- 2:12:39I understand once again where she's coming from if you want to
- 2:12:43push more because that's another thing too.
- 2:12:45I think we also forget K Pop as a whole.
- 2:12:47They've really created like the form of groups, mainly promote
- 2:12:53for the fans, like get that fan base, make it strong and then
- 2:12:57like you basically can't do anything wrong.
- 2:12:59So again, if we're trying to like make VTS like out of the K
- 2:13:04pop scene, that is one of the things we're going to have to
- 2:13:06like accept is going to happen, Which I also think why they
- 2:13:10brought up swim and like made it the contender or the title
- 2:13:14track, because even Hobie had brought up how the song could be
- 2:13:17potentially their lead due to it being like more accessible and
- 2:13:20inclusive. It does have like the themes of
- 2:13:22like love because during the promotion of like Adirong, they
- 2:13:25kept asking us like, what is your love song?
- 2:13:27But like people can interpret love in so many ways.
- 2:13:30So like, even if one song is interpreting love in one way, a
- 2:13:33person, like the normal average person can listen to it and
- 2:13:37still think of love, but like interpret it in their own way,
- 2:13:40like, you know what I mean? But they also knew they were
- 2:13:42going to like go through like challenges with that because,
- 2:13:45like, Namjoon also mentioned that it is a bit more mellow and
- 2:13:48strays away from their usual sound.
- 2:13:50So it's going to be a risk either way.
- 2:13:52But like, if they're going to take that risk, take it now.
- 2:13:55So I also do find it interesting because like when you see people
- 2:13:58talk online who are into K pop or our armies, they did say like
- 2:14:02releasing swim as the lead was technically a quote, UN quote
- 2:14:05safe route to take. Yeah, I think that whole section
- 2:14:10with. Nicole again was and this is
- 2:14:13where I give another tell another giving the main telling
- 2:14:15off to that Vulture article because that I think it was a
- 2:14:18real case of where that moment was decontextualized.
- 2:14:21Because actually the way that I read that whole scene with the
- 2:14:25conversation between Tay and Nicole is that Tay's point was
- 2:14:29that we should write something that is more universal because
- 2:14:33it will be popular. And Nicole's come back to that
- 2:14:35was well on in Black Swan is, I think, reading into beloved by
- 2:14:39the fan base and it's not that universal source.
- 2:14:42So actually, I think Nicole's point was you don't have to
- 2:14:45write really universal stuff for at least your fan base to love
- 2:14:49it and for it to be popular. Whereas I think when it was
- 2:14:52taken out of context, it felt like we didn't we didn't the
- 2:14:56Vulture. I didn't like point that Tay was
- 2:14:58making that point and agreeing with her.
- 2:15:01It was just Nicole making a point that on in Black Swan
- 2:15:04unrelatable because then I remember like, because then that
- 2:15:06was the context we got. And I remember like I came back
- 2:15:09on Twitter saying that like, you know, on is, you know, on is
- 2:15:13about overcoming hardship, like you said to me, and Black Swan
- 2:15:16is about losing your passion. I think those are pretty
- 2:15:18universal concepts. I think that yes, you, it's,
- 2:15:20it's more meaningful in a like for Black Swan in a creative
- 2:15:24context. But I also think like you can,
- 2:15:26you experience loads of things where you lose your passion and
- 2:15:29you have to make the decision about whether you're going to
- 2:15:30fight to get it back. You can enjoy your job and lose
- 2:15:33passion for your job. You can your hobbies, you can.
- 2:15:35And they might be creative. They might not be your
- 2:15:37friendships. Like, yeah, your, you know,
- 2:15:39your, your, your, your relationship.
- 2:15:41There's loads of things in which you can sort of point to being
- 2:15:45consumed by this sadness that you no longer have the love for
- 2:15:48this thing again. And then you sort of you decide,
- 2:15:51no, I want to, I'm going to fight for this, I'm going to get
- 2:15:53it back. So.
- 2:15:54And, and on just being about solidarity with the people
- 2:15:56around you. Yeah, I think that I think, I
- 2:16:00mean, I think swim was a really good choice because I was
- 2:16:04thinking to myself, if it wasn't swim, what track could it have
- 2:16:07been? And I can't really point to one
- 2:16:10that I think would have been, I guess body to body could have
- 2:16:14been a contender because it would have had that really
- 2:16:16interesting flavor of the chat. But I don't think that that
- 2:16:19would have done numbers on like great.
- 2:16:22I don't know, like I think it would have gone down really well
- 2:16:25with some people, but not all. And I think like aliens
- 2:16:28potentially, but aliens, aliens goes up, goes talks about like
- 2:16:31aliens talks about racism, aliens talks about their
- 2:16:34experience as being overed in situations.
- 2:16:37So that's again, like that is quite, that is not a that is not
- 2:16:41always a universal experience. It's a sympathetic experience,
- 2:16:43but it's not always universal to everybody.
- 2:16:45So yeah, I kind of think when I weigh it up, swim was simpler
- 2:16:49and but it and it's gentle as a track.
- 2:16:51It's not got like the energy and like the bounce and like, yeah,
- 2:16:54like the bam, the BTS tracks, title tracks have traditionally
- 2:16:58had. But again, like some people say
- 2:17:00it's the safe option. I think it was an experimental
- 2:17:02option because it's not what they've they've done before.
- 2:17:05I think it was a smart option because how many?
- 2:17:08Can put that song in the background even just to listen
- 2:17:11to it because it's soothing. Like just the sound of it is
- 2:17:14like peaceful and it becomes an ear worm like it does.
- 2:17:18Like I find myself standing in the kitchen singing swim like
- 2:17:23over and over in my head. Like the motion as well.
- 2:17:26Like swim. Yeah, it's like.
- 2:17:29So I think, I feel. Like it was the logical and best
- 2:17:33choice. Because like, even if I argue
- 2:17:36and say normal has a good message, I don't think it would
- 2:17:40have had the same impact Because at the end of the day, you can't
- 2:17:44dance to normal. And they still made swim work
- 2:17:47with a dance. So people who wanted a dance to
- 2:17:51learn are still able to do that with this song.
- 2:17:55Like the things that they love in the fandom.
- 2:17:57When a song releases, they get a dance, they get an earworm, they
- 2:18:02get visuals because the visuals were beautiful in the music
- 2:18:06video. It was very cinematic.
- 2:18:09So I'm like you, you got everything you wanted.
- 2:18:11It wasn't maybe what you thought.
- 2:18:13When you think of like a fire and you're like, and you're like
- 2:18:17seeing everything torched and dancing like maniacs, like you
- 2:18:21don't get that. But I still think it is very
- 2:18:23much BTS. It's just like you said,
- 2:18:26experimental, but it works. Yeah.
- 2:18:30And and it had like I said, it's an ear run, but it also has.
- 2:18:32Real playability, so you can hear it over and over and you
- 2:18:35know, in the case of like people that are like trying to hit
- 2:18:37those streaming goals, we can stream it over and over and not
- 2:18:40get tired of it. And it's also like it does have
- 2:18:43if you want to find that layer of army WTS kind of symbolism,
- 2:18:48water and seas and that sort of like swimming and keeping going
- 2:18:52has been a consistent motif that they've had for years.
- 2:18:54Because we had all the way going back to when you had the the Mod
- 2:18:577 Torah posters when they were standing on the water.
- 2:19:00And then when we had the pandemic and we had on the the
- 2:19:03online concert, they were in a desert.
- 2:19:05They talked about in yet to come going from the desert to the sea
- 2:19:09and then them being back in the sea.
- 2:19:11And so, you know, there's like the idea of and see being a
- 2:19:14hidden track and being about hardship.
- 2:19:16And so then now finally swim and like, you know, the water being
- 2:19:20something like something that you push through as an obstacle.
- 2:19:23But then you can also read it as it's them being immersed in the
- 2:19:27thing that they have like worked to return to, which is like this
- 2:19:31really, I think really lovely motif for peace and comfort and
- 2:19:35home and army. And I just, yeah, I think it's
- 2:19:38got everything. I think that it's yeah, like
- 2:19:40it's really interesting with the documentary, like about how they
- 2:19:43came to that journey and how they had their doubts of it.
- 2:19:46But I absolutely think that out of all of the 14 tracks, and you
- 2:19:48know, there's supposedly like 120 tracks that we haven't heard
- 2:19:51or they they wrote a lot for this album.
- 2:19:54Maybe someone's from the vault, maybe someone's brand new.
- 2:19:56And we have got a hidden track still in the dark final to
- 2:19:58discover. So there is there is more to
- 2:20:00come, of course. But yeah, I think that of what
- 2:20:03we know, Swim just felt like the natural, the best choice they
- 2:20:06could have made. Well, Speaking of the battle of
- 2:20:09a swim was. Supposed to be, you know, if
- 2:20:12Swim was a good choice for the title track.
- 2:20:14Shannon had actually mentioned a really good point as far as one
- 2:20:18contender that I see a lot of people talking about online is
- 2:20:21body to body because they discussed that song a lot in
- 2:20:24this documentary, especially when it comes to the Argyong
- 2:20:27sample. So at first we actually do get a
- 2:20:30scene where P Dog plays it in front of Hobie Tae, Jimin and
- 2:20:35John Cook. Those four loved it.
- 2:20:39And then we get a part where Nam June and Yugi comes in.
- 2:20:43Those two not so much. Which also birthed another meme
- 2:20:47of J hope this vibing out, dancing to it.
- 2:20:51And then like, you see Nam June and Yugi look at each other,
- 2:20:53shake their head like no. And then Hobie's looking around
- 2:20:56like, wait, y'all not feeling this?
- 2:20:58No, it's just oh, OK, going nevermind then.
- 2:21:03Yeah, I'm going to say. Not much.
- 2:21:06I've already seen it used so much.
- 2:21:08It must never die. It will never die.
- 2:21:10And another thing too, which. It did take me, I did see people
- 2:21:13talking about it online on Twitter and it took me the
- 2:21:16second watch. Now people are kind of
- 2:21:19misconstruing this that Nam Jun and Yugi did not want the sample
- 2:21:23Adi Dong in it at all. That's not the case because they
- 2:21:27already decided really early on that they were going to put Adi
- 2:21:31Dong in one of the songs and the choice was body to body.
- 2:21:34The thing that they were against was the like the sound of it
- 2:21:39because if you pay attention to the documentary, Adi Dong is
- 2:21:42kind of like under, I don't know, like musical technical
- 2:21:45terms. So I'm sorry guys.
- 2:21:47But like when you listen to it from what the final version we
- 2:21:49got towards the end, I think it's like Tay and Jin's part of
- 2:21:52the chorus they are singing, but Adi Dong is like under it.
- 2:21:55So like you hear them singing, you hear Adi Dong as well as the
- 2:21:58like instrumentals. And I think that's what they did
- 2:22:00it one. That's why Namji kick comparing
- 2:22:03it to like this combination of like weird foods because it was
- 2:22:05kind of like jumbled up together all in one.
- 2:22:08That's what they didn't like. And there was two different
- 2:22:11versions of it. There was like a short version
- 2:22:13they had heard and there's a longer version they're going to
- 2:22:16hear a little bit later when they're back in Korea.
- 2:22:18But it's just interesting because again, we talked about
- 2:22:21the dynamics between BTS and the company of compromises.
- 2:22:24You see the compromise between the members as well because
- 2:22:27Namjoo brought up how we thought it was like too traditional to
- 2:22:31be mixed in there. And it might sound weird to like
- 2:22:34Korean people and also sounded weird to them because they are
- 2:22:37Korean. You know?
- 2:22:38Hobie kind of pushes back a little bit thinking it sounds
- 2:22:41cool. But then Tay also brought up
- 2:22:43that he's worried that like Korean people might think it's
- 2:22:46like they're being too patriotic and like, it might feel a little
- 2:22:48bit uncomfortable. And that's what Namju mentioned,
- 2:22:50what his fear was. And I also forgot, like with Tay
- 2:22:54saying that, it took me this morning to realize, you know, I
- 2:22:57keep forgetting like during out this whole thing, they're
- 2:22:59freshly out of the military, they're out of the Yogi.
- 2:23:03Just discharge what I want to say a month or two before,
- 2:23:07probably like 2 months before they headed to LA.
- 2:23:09So like when you put that in context, I understand now why
- 2:23:12they feared that sample being in there, not only because it's a
- 2:23:16song of like the country, but like maybe people probably
- 2:23:19putting on them like the military changed them.
- 2:23:22You know, they're way too pro Korea now.
- 2:23:24The government has gotten into their head things like that,
- 2:23:27which things that people have already said of them because,
- 2:23:29you know, how big they are in a way kind of already represents
- 2:23:33Korea, whether they want to or not.
- 2:23:35So looking at it that way, I understand the fear.
- 2:23:37But then also, you know, Hobie kind of brings it up and like,
- 2:23:40mentions that foreigners like people not Korean might, you
- 2:23:44know, enjoy it, be wowed by it because you're like bringing
- 2:23:47their culture that they had no idea about.
- 2:23:48And yes, Hobie, I am one of the foreigners.
- 2:23:50I enjoyed it. So you were right on that, Sir.
- 2:23:54Yeah, Yeah, I think we will. And I think it's.
- 2:23:57It's again, it's interesting, the whole discourse that
- 2:24:00unravelled when Arang came out and people arguing that it's not
- 2:24:03Korean enough or it hasn't got enough of that flavour.
- 2:24:06So it's interesting to watch them talk about making it less
- 2:24:10overtly Korean with the sample because they're worried about
- 2:24:13how foreigners are going to take it.
- 2:24:14And actually right off the bat, there are people being like, we
- 2:24:16want more. We want this to be more
- 2:24:18integrated. Like we really like the sound of
- 2:24:19body to body, Like we wanted more.
- 2:24:21You know, people, I've saw people at the beginning they
- 2:24:23were referencing like Deshita and referencing Hagum, like
- 2:24:26these tracks that Jungi used where he used the traditional
- 2:24:28instruments at the same openings or the same references to these
- 2:24:31things. So it was the idea of people
- 2:24:33actually thinking, actually they think the ETS didn't go far
- 2:24:36enough into it. But I think it comes down to
- 2:24:38that of like identity again. But yeah, I think I think you're
- 2:24:41right when you contextualize them being just out of the
- 2:24:43military. I think also them just not
- 2:24:46wanting to be considered like it being the theme being too
- 2:24:49heavy-handed because they the title of of, you know, the album
- 2:24:52and the main theme of it is out of line.
- 2:24:54It's this very sentimental, like emotive track that is very
- 2:24:57special to the Korean people. And to kind of whether I think
- 2:25:02there's like a, there's a fine line between showing as in a lot
- 2:25:05of things like appreciation for something and then tokenizing
- 2:25:09something. It's that constant push and pull
- 2:25:11of when, when is this enough? And when are people going to
- 2:25:14feel like we're milking something.
- 2:25:16And I think they were right to have that kind of business, that
- 2:25:20perspective and that kind of business.
- 2:25:21Nice of this could be seen and this could be taken in the wrong
- 2:25:25way, but I hope that they're and I, you know, quietly behind the
- 2:25:28scenes seeing the reaction to it and being like, Oh no, we're
- 2:25:30cool. Like people, people have
- 2:25:31embraced this. People loved it.
- 2:25:33And in fact, some people said even when they were being
- 2:25:35negative but silver lining they said they wanted more.
- 2:25:39So yeah, that could be feedback for them.
- 2:25:42Yeah, but I mean even with that feedback it like.
- 2:25:45Unfortunately, we've gone to much of like an underhand where
- 2:25:48it's like, oh, we wanted boar, but like, you know, not going
- 2:25:51with body and body and going with swim like shows you're not
- 2:25:53Korean enough. So we have that as well.
- 2:25:56And it's like, I, I'm not Korean.
- 2:25:57Obviously I don't have like access to like Korean forums and
- 2:26:01the social media. So I don't know what they are
- 2:26:04saying because like the Korean, I keep forgetting the Koreans I
- 2:26:07have been seeing online, they're like, how do I say this?
- 2:26:12Is Koreans of the diaspora appropriate?
- 2:26:14Meaning like either Korean, but like they either grew up in
- 2:26:17America or like Canada or like this in a different country
- 2:26:20outside of South Korea. So also for them, for the ones I
- 2:26:23have seen like give those critiques of not being Korean
- 2:26:27of, I also understand their perspective because it's also
- 2:26:30kind of like BTS does help them bridge between like, you know,
- 2:26:34being Korean but not growing up in Korea compared to like what a
- 2:26:38actual like raised in Korean probably thinks of it.
- 2:26:42So I haven't seen that perspective of that side.
- 2:26:46It's mainly been Koreans who either were raised outside of
- 2:26:49Korea or like had to probably leave Korea and they probably,
- 2:26:52you know, like, you know, miss their homeland.
- 2:26:54So this is one of those things too.
- 2:26:56Yeah. And I've got.
- 2:26:57I've seen, I've seen quite a few that have been.
- 2:26:59From like Korean streamers that are based in Korea and actually
- 2:27:02being really, and again, it's, it's, it's a, it's a small
- 2:27:05selection, I said of the, of the wider picture, but I have seen,
- 2:27:09you know, them reacting like live to it and being like, whoa,
- 2:27:12like they've, they did that because I think like people
- 2:27:15forget that there is, you know, that there's, there's AI think
- 2:27:18there's, there's a, there's a portion of people that might be
- 2:27:20feeling like, oh, we don't have expectations that you celebrate
- 2:27:23your culture. You know, you're a massive now
- 2:27:24you're you, you've grown so much beyond for your, your global *.
- 2:27:28So I think there's, I've seen a lot of reactions where it seems
- 2:27:31like it's meant a lot to them that they still really have that
- 2:27:34rooted in Korea and they still have that like bringing it back
- 2:27:38to that. I think there's a lot they're
- 2:27:39like, Oh no, they're still like there's, they're still
- 2:27:41celebrating us, which I think is, I can, I can imagine must be
- 2:27:44really, really nice for them as well.
- 2:27:46Yeah, my friend and her mom. Is from Jeju and she's been in
- 2:27:52the United States for a while now.
- 2:27:54But when her mom heard the song and said that she started crying
- 2:28:00because she said it reminded her of home because she hasn't been
- 2:28:03home in a long time. So I do think that sentiment of
- 2:28:07missing their home like where she was from like she where she
- 2:28:11was born and raised and not being there, she felt like a tie
- 2:28:15to that because all her brothers and sisters still live in Korea.
- 2:28:18She's one of eight. She's the oldest of 8.
- 2:28:21So she, but she said hearing that was like very special to
- 2:28:25her. She said because you don't hear
- 2:28:27it so much, so you don't hear recordings.
- 2:28:29It's not something you seek out or they play on the radio, you
- 2:28:32know, there isn't that access. So for her, like it was really
- 2:28:37special. So I do think that there is some
- 2:28:40special connections, but I I'm glad they included it.
- 2:28:44Like, I'm glad that they put it in that song at the end of the
- 2:28:48day and they are tying it because they're always going to
- 2:28:51be Korean no matter what. Like they're always Korean.
- 2:28:55And I'm just, I'm glad that they are also not like trying to just
- 2:29:02be a modern pop star now to like, you know what I'm saying?
- 2:29:06Like sometimes you lose that part of yourself, like wanting
- 2:29:10to express yourself. And I'm glad they've kept that
- 2:29:14message no matter what. At the end of the day.
- 2:29:17I think like what you're saying is an interesting like
- 2:29:19juxtaposition when you think. Of like them not letting
- 2:29:22something go as part of like their Koreanness of their
- 2:29:25heritage. When you compare that to a track
- 2:29:28like aliens, which is talking about basically being like them
- 2:29:32being made to feel other by other people.
- 2:29:35So there's that element of even if we wanted to completely let
- 2:29:39go and detach ourselves from our Korean identity, other people in
- 2:29:43the West won't let they they pinpoint us as different.
- 2:29:47So I think like when I listen to it and again, like, you know, a
- 2:29:51quite British woman perspective, but I just feel like there is a
- 2:29:54sense that there is a bit of like a screw it.
- 2:29:57Like, you know, if you're going to keep reminding me that I'm
- 2:29:59different, I'm going to celebrate that I am different
- 2:30:02because that is what you know, what else is there open?
- 2:30:05It's like it's a reclamation. I think of that identity, which
- 2:30:08I think is it's just really, really lovely to to sort of have
- 2:30:11a have an album that really talks and kind of explores that.
- 2:30:14I'm going to jump around because I feel like we've pretty much
- 2:30:16talked. About my next talking point.
- 2:30:18So I'm going to go to where we cut to Jimin dyeing his hair
- 2:30:23blonde, just getting bleached. Yeah, I'm just going to jump
- 2:30:29around a little bit. So we're going to get to the
- 2:30:33scene where Jimin, you know, getting his hair dyed blonde.
- 2:30:36And of course, many people in the fandom were, like, joking
- 2:30:40and saying, like, this is AI, Jimin's a natural blonde, you
- 2:30:43know, all that good stuff. Yes, he's a natural blonde.
- 2:30:46So much that he actually flinched a little because of the
- 2:30:49bleach. Fun.
- 2:30:51Yeah. No, no, he like, yeah, he's.
- 2:30:53Just yeah. He was just yeah, Just get in a
- 2:30:56touch. I mean, it's fine.
- 2:30:58Just a touch. It does sting.
- 2:30:59It does sting to your scalp. Like that you're literally
- 2:31:02putting Bleacher in your head. I've bleached my hair but I've
- 2:31:05never went to the scalp so I don't.
- 2:31:07Know what it feels like at the actual scalp?
- 2:31:09It hurts when they're putting that brush on, it feels like.
- 2:31:12Needles in the back of your head like they're because it stings.
- 2:31:16Actually, you can get burns like bleach burns in your scalp.
- 2:31:20It's not funny. It starts with like a cold and
- 2:31:23then it just becomes like. Fire and then you're like and
- 2:31:26then you're just stuck and just they just keep putting more on.
- 2:31:30I mean my my central argument. I don't think he said I but I do
- 2:31:33think that he's been blonde enough times.
- 2:31:36If he didn't have a little bit of natural blonde in him, his
- 2:31:38his hair would be fine. I don't know how that man has
- 2:31:42hair that maintains to be so fluffy and so luscious without
- 2:31:46him just being actually blonde. I was like buttocks though, I
- 2:31:51swear. Like they must.
- 2:31:52Condition like crazy because when I think about that how many
- 2:31:55times he's been blonde and how blonde he's been like how light
- 2:32:00they've gotten that hair yeah it's insane.
- 2:32:03I know that's not your points to me, but it's fine.
- 2:32:06I mean, we got into the topic of his hair, which wasn't.
- 2:32:08Why? I brought up Jimmy, but it's
- 2:32:10fine. But that flinching was so real.
- 2:32:14Though I was like, I feel that I sit and do that every few
- 2:32:17months. I have that exact experience.
- 2:32:20Lord, when they think to judious pain, I'm just.
- 2:32:23Little visor, though, I've never seen one of those.
- 2:32:25Where is. That for me, my eyes burn
- 2:32:28sometimes. The fuse that God they try.
- 2:32:32No Korea like. Actually.
- 2:32:34Like they're very. Modern in certain things like
- 2:32:36wearing gloves when they're washing the dishes because I
- 2:32:38hate when I accidentally touch food when I'm washing the dishes
- 2:32:42and like hey dramas like they. Have this little.
- 2:32:44Like clear kind of like the shield that he had, but they
- 2:32:46have like the shield over your mouth when they're preparing
- 2:32:49food. I'm like, why are we doing that?
- 2:32:51More like it's just more sanitized.
- 2:32:54Listen, every place has a thing advisor though for getting my
- 2:32:57hair bleached because that would save my.
- 2:32:59Life but I had brought him up because I just think his little.
- 2:33:02Scene when they actually filmed him at his house was very
- 2:33:05interesting to me because of what he like brings up so
- 2:33:08obviously after getting his hair bleached.
- 2:33:10He is at home. He's sitting in front of his
- 2:33:12computer eating dinner, watching YouTube videos.
- 2:33:15Our little nerd watching YouTube videos about science.
- 2:33:21I just gushed so badly. I'm like oh Jimin never changed
- 2:33:25because watching science videos and then playing League of.
- 2:33:28Legends. That man is bitchless.
- 2:33:31Yeah, because even Nam Jing was like, he doesn't understand how.
- 2:33:34Jimin can play for about 10 hours.
- 2:33:37I thought it was just gin. I thought it was just gin.
- 2:33:40Listen, I I can get that though, because I can play.
- 2:33:43Sims for like 24 hours. I've done that.
- 2:33:46I just get locked in and you're like.
- 2:33:50Oh wait, Sun's coming up again. Yeah.
- 2:33:52Yeah, I mean, less so if I'm at League of Legends because I.
- 2:33:54Just think that's just repetitive.
- 2:33:56You just did a real man. You're just doing the same
- 2:33:57battles over and over, but like story based things.
- 2:34:00Listen, I've got to see where this goes.
- 2:34:02I'm playing, you know, I put, I put time aside, I put annual
- 2:34:05leave off to play these like open world games, like I'm
- 2:34:08getting stuff done like so past my own heart.
- 2:34:12I'm not a gamer so I cannot relate to any of.
- 2:34:15This, I get bored within 5 seconds, especially if like I'm
- 2:34:18pressing a button and nothing's happening.
- 2:34:20I can't do it. I'm sorry.
- 2:34:22I've tried so many times. It's the controller on today.
- 2:34:24Did you turn it off? It is on OK, the character is.
- 2:34:27Moving. I hit jump, he's jumping, but I
- 2:34:30keep falling into the Cliff or whatever the ditch, and then I
- 2:34:35get upset and I throw it. I'm like no, but if you throw
- 2:34:39it, that's why it doesn't work, because you broke your.
- 2:34:41Controller it still works OK. I haven't had a game.
- 2:34:45System since the Wii and I don't have the Wii anymore because it
- 2:34:48was so old like it wasn't working like I would put acd in
- 2:34:51and the screen was black and white so that was my actual last
- 2:34:53like actual game console so that just shows you how I game not at
- 2:34:58all fair enough but anyway I just thought it was interesting
- 2:35:01because he. Actually gets on the.
- 2:35:02Topic of like being an introvert and I feel like the relationship
- 2:35:06that haves of like being a celebrity because he starts
- 2:35:09talking about like when he was younger, he wasn't introverted,
- 2:35:11but as he's gotten older, you know, a lot less people start
- 2:35:14being around him. I mean, he spends more time
- 2:35:17alone. And unfortunately, I just do
- 2:35:19think that's part of like the status that him and the other
- 2:35:22members just are when it comes to like BTS and like, you know,
- 2:35:25their fame. You just don't know who you can
- 2:35:27trust really anymore to get like that personal, which is sad to
- 2:35:31say, but that could form into his, like, introvertness and he
- 2:35:35just talks about how like life goes on.
- 2:35:37It's like that. But I thought it was interesting
- 2:35:39where he was talking about, like, he can't speak for other
- 2:35:41celebrities because, like, things may look a certain way
- 2:35:44and, like, just not knowing what they may go through.
- 2:35:47But like, also, he's not really complaining too much because in
- 2:35:50a way, this is a life he basically manifested for
- 2:35:52himself. Like, he envisioned himself
- 2:35:54singing, wearing pretty clothes. He mentioned dancing and just,
- 2:35:57like, performing in front of others.
- 2:35:59So I just thought that was a very interesting, like,
- 2:36:01perspective that he gave of. Like, fame is not all what it
- 2:36:04cracks up to be. People definitely.
- 2:36:07Yeah. Take the top.
- 2:36:09Yeah. I think like you envision like.
- 2:36:11How cool and glamorous it is. But then when you live it, you
- 2:36:16see how isolating it can be. Yeah, yeah, I put myself.
- 2:36:21In that situation, I would 100% if I had to like do like the
- 2:36:24tour and then I had a break. I'm not like, you know, it's
- 2:36:28like if you get free time off, like you're ever going to be
- 2:36:30like right, I'm going to make the you get those people that
- 2:36:32like when they get free time after they've done like their
- 2:36:34nine to five or what their day job that requires a lot of
- 2:36:36energy. They either take that free time
- 2:36:38and they cram in loads of things to do or they go and they live
- 2:36:41in a cave for two days. I choose cave.
- 2:36:44I choose cave. Yeah, I did nothing yesterday.
- 2:36:47Yes, exactly. And I think.
- 2:36:49Jinmin chooses K for two, and I think that is absolutely fine.
- 2:36:52You need to decompress. You demanding.
- 2:36:55A lot of people are looking at you.
- 2:36:56There's a lot of stimulation. If you just need to focus on a
- 2:36:59screen for 10 hours. Fill you.
- 2:37:01Fill you, my man. Again, man, after my own heart.
- 2:37:04Yes, because I mean, even Namjun goes into that a little bit.
- 2:37:07I forget the exact words, he says.
- 2:37:10Oh, it's when he's in the museum talking about, like, spilling so
- 2:37:13much of yourself, like, into other things.
- 2:37:15You kind of have to find a way to, like, fill it.
- 2:37:17And like, we kind of see that, too, in, like, a little montage.
- 2:37:20Yeah. So like, he goes to the museums
- 2:37:21a lot. I was proud of myself.
- 2:37:23Again, Thank you, K Pop demon hunters, because I recognize the
- 2:37:26tiger paintings he was looking at and the significance of that.
- 2:37:30You know, we saw Jen playing tennis.
- 2:37:32JK was with Bam, which also was a very interesting scene when
- 2:37:36the woman was talking about how Bam, like, has all these health
- 2:37:39issues. It's going to die soon.
- 2:37:43I was like, why would you say that?
- 2:37:45No, I'm just so upset. I was like seeing man playing,
- 2:37:51you know, like hyper and like be like, where the fuck is me?
- 2:37:55And then they're like, he's so sick.
- 2:37:57And I'm like, no, I guess that's why I love him, because he's.
- 2:38:02So I'll I mean don't state that like.
- 2:38:07It hurt my heart so much. It was just so random.
- 2:38:11I was like what is going on? I.
- 2:38:14Think he I think he underestimates how much that.
- 2:38:17Bam Instagram account was like our lifeline when he went in and
- 2:38:20was just like how is Bam like his brother running the Bam
- 2:38:23account and I was just like Bam, it's got friends.
- 2:38:27Yeah, I was just waiting for in the OPS of the.
- 2:38:31Angels to start play? No, I'm sure.
- 2:38:36That's how we. All felt with Yoton too.
- 2:38:39Probably, yeah, maybe. Rest in peace.
- 2:38:42We do get, we do get attached to these BTS animals.
- 2:38:45Don't we? But yeah, that I just he's that
- 2:38:48are going strong. Yeah, it went.
- 2:38:49From them like the idea of them, like filling their.
- 2:38:52Cup and like doing all the activities that make them happy
- 2:38:54and then this wouldn't be like your dog's going to die soon.
- 2:39:00Then you have Mickey on life support.
- 2:39:02Dog, it's going to be frozen. He's going to be crowd genically
- 2:39:07frozen. Just imagine being in a band's
- 2:39:10head. They're having this conversation
- 2:39:11around and it's like, hey. Dad, what are we doing in the
- 2:39:13day? Hey, Dad, for the ball.
- 2:39:14For the ball. My God, that scene out of all
- 2:39:18that was it. Was just Oh my God.
- 2:39:21I'm glad JK was like, well, that's why, you know, we attract
- 2:39:25one another. That's why he's special to me.
- 2:39:27It's like you tell her, yeah, he's just special, OK?
- 2:39:31He doesn't have. His.
- 2:39:32Ears modified. He's the happiest puppy.
- 2:39:35I don't even know how old. How old is he?
- 2:39:37Do we not old? He's like maybe 2.
- 2:39:40Or three at this point. Like he because he got him
- 2:39:42because he was in the bus in the in the soup.
- 2:39:46They did remember that he took them to the in the soup house.
- 2:39:49So it has to be at least maybe 3 or 4.
- 2:39:53Yeah, he was. He was like, really, I think he
- 2:39:55was relatively. He was a puppy when it was in
- 2:39:57the soup too, so I think he was. And the soup too was 2022.
- 2:40:02Must have been. I don't know what it was.
- 2:40:04So yeah, he's only, he's not even 10.
- 2:40:06He's not. Even like, well, he's got to be
- 2:40:08then four or five, though that's still pretty.
- 2:40:10Especially for a big dog like that dogs that's old because
- 2:40:14they typically I don't want to put.
- 2:40:16It downer but like bigger dogs like that don't typically live
- 2:40:20to be past 10 if that. It's very rare Most of them live
- 2:40:25close to like 7 to like 9 years old.
- 2:40:29Like, I don't mean to like, be a downer, but like, he could,
- 2:40:33depending on his health issues, like he might not be for a long
- 2:40:38time, like, help make it through tour, OK?
- 2:40:41I help him make it through there.
- 2:40:43But I don't know much past that what his health issues are
- 2:40:47without knowing. Yeah, well, to to get happier
- 2:40:51and not. Talk about Bam sudden doom.
- 2:40:54We also saw a clip of like Hobie pottering and I didn't know he
- 2:40:57did pottery. I need like more information of
- 2:41:00that I'm sure Can I see like what you've made?
- 2:41:03Yes. Does he make them for gifts for
- 2:41:05the do you like? Do you make them for like?
- 2:41:07Bowls and stuff to use, Do you make them for decoration?
- 2:41:10I actually need more information, but I'm not
- 2:41:13surprised. Hobie is very creative when it
- 2:41:15comes to like. Like he not only does dance, he
- 2:41:17has a really good eye for design.
- 2:41:19He does a man well. He made that a lot of hot.
- 2:41:23Things for his ETS merch he had the little succulent looking
- 2:41:29pot. Yeah, I love that.
- 2:41:31One so like I feel like that is like.
- 2:41:34You said like non, it's very on brand for him because he does.
- 2:41:37He has an eye for design like crazy.
- 2:41:40Yeah, he's getting granted. I like the.
- 2:41:44Idea that he just keeps like. Every present that he's given
- 2:41:47the members for the last like 2 years has been something that
- 2:41:51he's like he's he's put he's potted on the wheel.
- 2:41:54And so it's just like, here's a pot for your pens.
- 2:41:56He's like, thanks. So here's another mug like him
- 2:41:59just being someone who just gives everybody mugs and then
- 2:42:02they're just like the mugs accumulate and he's like,
- 2:42:05thanks, another mug. I just think it's just like this
- 2:42:08like dream in my head. Like they're just like thanks
- 2:42:12and open up a taxi. I'll be there.
- 2:42:14I'll be, I'm going to say Gina Will.
- 2:42:15Buy every. Mug she loves mugs for how much
- 2:42:18coffee she drinks and then and then each of the guys just
- 2:42:21having a sit down. I was like, listen, I.
- 2:42:22Live on my own, I only need one mug, maybe 2.
- 2:42:26Stop making me mugs. How cute would it be to get a
- 2:42:29dog bowl made by Hobie? That would be really cute
- 2:42:33though. Make a little dog.
- 2:42:36But then instead of mugs, he's. Like OK, so the next prize it
- 2:42:38will. Be a bowl you can never.
- 2:42:41Go wrong with bowls you can have.
- 2:42:43Too many bowls. OK, just just just wait The the
- 2:42:46the the junk hot sock. Tableware line it's coming.
- 2:42:49I actually want that. I would buy.
- 2:42:51I'd buy, I'd. Buy the fuck out.
- 2:42:53Exactly. Listen, this also goes into your
- 2:42:56older. Fan face Hobie like come on,
- 2:42:58we'll take it. They know they got the stack.
- 2:43:01They know, that's why they so much their stuff was.
- 2:43:02Home wear, they're like, oh, these aren't like young kids who
- 2:43:04need like stationary and like stuff for their school, for
- 2:43:07their school bags. No, these are like grown women
- 2:43:09with money with houses that we want to decorate.
- 2:43:12Listen, I would take some Jungle Sock wine.
- 2:43:15Glasses like in a design me some wine glasses with a cool
- 2:43:20coloured stem, like rainbows and spiral.
- 2:43:23Yeah, wow, make it happen, Yes. So the last thing I.
- 2:43:28Do want to talk on before we officially end again.
- 2:43:31It's they talked about body to body a lot.
- 2:43:33I was actually really surprised how much this song was like
- 2:43:37discussed. But they also have like, you
- 2:43:39know, another meeting when they're back in Korea and
- 2:43:42they're actually talking with Bong PD.
- 2:43:43He joins the meeting this time. I also don't want to like stay
- 2:43:47on this topic too much because I know this is a very sensitive
- 2:43:50topic for people. So I guess like trigger war to
- 2:43:52get away. But like Jin did make the
- 2:43:54comment of like never seeing anyone in the hype gym except
- 2:43:58for Nam June and like pointed out how like everyone got so
- 2:44:02skinny. Yeah.
- 2:44:03So yeah, I just I know we noticed it.
- 2:44:07I didn't think anyone would say anything.
- 2:44:09I don't like the discussion I was seeing.
- 2:44:11I've never want to talk about anyone's bodies.
- 2:44:13OK, because that's your body's your body the way like health
- 2:44:17looks different on everyone. But the people saying like they
- 2:44:20were too buff to dance is inaccurate and also shows me
- 2:44:25you've never seen like actual men, like male dancers before.
- 2:44:29Even ones in ballet are huge. Look at Juan Ho, who's another
- 2:44:34one and he's huge and he can be dancing the same moves that like
- 2:44:40BTS does. So like that's that's not the
- 2:44:42reason, but I just wanted to point that out.
- 2:44:45So thank you for pointing that out though and talking about
- 2:44:48they're so frail. I'm like Gin shut off it's.
- 2:44:51Like what did y'all get so fragile?
- 2:44:53Gin was just tired of being called old all the time.
- 2:44:56He had to dig. OK, that's true.
- 2:44:58They call him Old Man all the time.
- 2:45:00That was that. Was getting back for gin and
- 2:45:02being like that muscle. 'S there.
- 2:45:03It's not even there. Yeah, gin's like, where'd yours
- 2:45:06go now, bro? You talk about my.
- 2:45:08Muscle two months ago. Yeah, like Teyang was built
- 2:45:11jumping out of helicopters. Through glass windows and now
- 2:45:14look at you. Nothing there.
- 2:45:16It's just, yeah, it's just banter.
- 2:45:18It disappeared when JK hugged me.
- 2:45:20Now what happened to that? Now you can see me, right?
- 2:45:24But yes, so basically. That whole meeting again, like
- 2:45:27we. I just mentioned it was talk
- 2:45:29about body to body and once again using the sample of
- 2:45:32Adirong and like Bong PD was like mentioning to them because
- 2:45:36he was the one who really pitched like having that sample
- 2:45:38in there. Like he wanted that sample in
- 2:45:40there. Like just imagine like the 60 to
- 2:45:4370,000 people in like the stadium, especially since most
- 2:45:46of them are going to be foreigners, like singing along
- 2:45:48to Adi Dong, how iconic that would be.
- 2:45:51But it's still their decision on how they want to keep that
- 2:45:55sample into body to body. Again, it was agreed upon that
- 2:45:59it was going to be in the song. They just couldn't figure out at
- 2:46:02the time, like, how to use it. Or in this case, too, I don't
- 2:46:05even know if he was maybe telling them, like, if you don't
- 2:46:07want it at all, it's still your decision.
- 2:46:10It could have been that as well. And then Hobie was mentioning
- 2:46:13like, you know, he preferred the short version that they first
- 2:46:17listened to. John Cook had also chimed in to
- 2:46:20mention that like many people who aren't Korean won't
- 2:46:22recognize him. But ultimately like they should
- 2:46:25choose what sounds better in a song.
- 2:46:28I know Bong PD had said something back to him.
- 2:46:31I'm like, it doesn't matter if the song is good or bad but I
- 2:46:33didn't write it down so I can't remember exactly what he said.
- 2:46:37But then Namjin was also talking about like how we saw both sides
- 2:46:40bringing up what Hobie had mentioned in LA, like as a
- 2:46:43reference for them, like when they first heard like beats from
- 2:46:46Africa or like Brazil, because, you know, they're neither of
- 2:46:48those races are like ethnicities.
- 2:46:50How they found it fascinating and exciting because it sounds
- 2:46:54so different. So it's probably going to be the
- 2:46:55same with like non Koreans listening to Adidan Bong PD also
- 2:46:59brings up like how it's impossible to and not deny that
- 2:47:02they are once in a generation icons, How they also can like
- 2:47:07deny that they're Korean, which what we were talking about
- 2:47:09earlier of like at the end of the day, you can't like question
- 2:47:12their Korean this little like saying they're not Korean enough
- 2:47:15because I just I don't understand that this course like
- 2:47:19anyway, but like now their audience is on a global scale
- 2:47:23and it's not just for Koreans. So like that's an undeniable
- 2:47:27fact. But still, at the end of the
- 2:47:28day, that is their call, which I think is what we had brought up
- 2:47:32earlier as well as far as like we were discussing Nicole as far
- 2:47:36as like making music to still, yes, please your fans, but like
- 2:47:40you're out of scale now where like people who aren't your fans
- 2:47:43are interested in going to tune in because they want to see what
- 2:47:45the hype is about. So it's also just making music
- 2:47:47to where like, I don't want to say like earn their respect.
- 2:47:50But at the same time, it is kind of that in a way, I guess I
- 2:47:55don't know how to really frame that, if that makes sense.
- 2:47:58Yeah, yeah. I mean, I'll just add that when
- 2:48:00I. Heard the short version of body
- 2:48:02to body. I was like too short, way too
- 2:48:05short. I'm so used to the longer
- 2:48:07version and loving the longer version.
- 2:48:08The longer it goes on better, the more I'm vibing.
- 2:48:11And when I heard that short version, I was like, Nah, I
- 2:48:14would have been, you know, biased, of course, but I would
- 2:48:17be like, I kind of felt like if I'd heard the short version, I
- 2:48:19would have been dissatisfied because I would have wanted the
- 2:48:21vibe to keep going. So I mean, yeah.
- 2:48:23And this from the perspective of someone who loves that album and
- 2:48:26thinks it's all just, it's all just brilliant.
- 2:48:28So I'm glad they went with the longer version in the end.
- 2:48:31I think. See, that's the thing.
- 2:48:32I think this confusing with the shorter and longer version.
- 2:48:34I think so the version. That we got now.
- 2:48:36I don't even know if that's considered the shorter or longer
- 2:48:38because the singing doesn't start until after I I don't know
- 2:48:42if it's Taylor Gin after they're done singing, then the Audion
- 2:48:46singing starts. Whereas before the singing was
- 2:48:48like looped in with their singing as well.
- 2:48:51But I prefer the version we have now where it's separated it out.
- 2:48:54It's still part of the song, and we got like the introduction
- 2:48:58slowly of the instrumentals, but we didn't hear the singings
- 2:49:01until later. Like, it's not all jumbled
- 2:49:03together is what like Namjun and Yugi had a problem with.
- 2:49:06So yeah, the version we have now I really like and I'm glad they
- 2:49:09went that direction and not tried to overlap it with, like,
- 2:49:12the members singing. Yeah.
- 2:49:14I also can't remember if unless they cut it short.
- 2:49:17When they were talking about the different versions, whether in
- 2:49:19one of the versions it didn't have Namjun coming back to
- 2:49:22going, I need the whole stadium to jump because that like that
- 2:49:26bit I think really like made it. And I think there might have
- 2:49:28been one version where they just were like that wasn't there.
- 2:49:31And again, I was like, that'd be such a shame because that whole
- 2:49:34thing like being being opening to the album and like bringing,
- 2:49:38bringing it like, like the, the bringing it like circular, like
- 2:49:42bringing it back around from like the traditional,
- 2:49:44traditional chat, like chant to back to the energy of it.
- 2:49:48So good, So good. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:49:51So I. Mean, I didn't see too many
- 2:49:54people have this much of A visual reaction like they did
- 2:49:57with Nicole, which is interesting because I know Wong
- 2:50:00PD Eight really like that much in the fandom.
- 2:50:02But that's also another thing I'm needing to separate.
- 2:50:05We ain't got time to talk about that, but I just thought that
- 2:50:08was interesting. I was also distracted by his
- 2:50:11hand the whole time. Yeah.
- 2:50:12What did he do to break it? What did he do?
- 2:50:15It was just so distracting. He walks in and I'm.
- 2:50:18Like what the like what did you do?
- 2:50:21Just I had no idea. Like I was just like, are you
- 2:50:26trying to be Gin? Because he had the whole hand
- 2:50:29casting too. I was like, what the heck did
- 2:50:31you do? I don't think so.
- 2:50:34Maybe he gave someone. Too hard of a crispy. 5 like hey
- 2:50:40damn it, hey, we're not going to go into.
- 2:50:43Him because I can talk 5 years about that man Anyway, so yes,
- 2:50:48we basically finally ended with like.
- 2:50:50BTS talking about like, what being in BTS means to them
- 2:50:54physically and emotionally. And then of course, you got you
- 2:50:57and he talking about how he wants them to be together until
- 2:50:59they're old and grey. And then Namjoon also gets into
- 2:51:03it about like, you know, how BTS feels like wearing a crown and,
- 2:51:07you know, sometimes that crown gets very heavy.
- 2:51:10And I absolutely love how they wrapped up the documentary with
- 2:51:14like that live session of them all singing swim.
- 2:51:17That was very cool. I've never seen them do
- 2:51:19something like that. And I like the way that it was
- 2:51:21like shot. It was beautiful.
- 2:51:23It made me excited for any like extra kind of.
- 2:51:26Performances like that, like, again, I'm old now, I feel like
- 2:51:28we need a tiny desk because that is, that was so good.
- 2:51:32That would be so amazing. And yeah, just like them
- 2:51:35stripped back like that. And I liked how like, in terms
- 2:51:38of the narrative, like if we're thinking of this as a
- 2:51:40documentary that is aimed at like including armies, of
- 2:51:43course, and then we'll be watching.
- 2:51:45But to people that have also never encountered BTS before for
- 2:51:47the very first time, it's like the whole, it sets up throughout
- 2:51:51the whole narrative of the documentary, like, they're back,
- 2:51:55They're massive. There's so much hype.
- 2:51:56They've worked really hard. They went for their trials.
- 2:51:58They they came to the end of it. And guess what?
- 2:52:01They can sing really bloody good.
- 2:52:03And it's just like, yeah. So on top of all of that, here
- 2:52:06is them like, no, you know, like just no effect.
- 2:52:09Like just straight up just great.
- 2:52:11And I was like, yeah, yeah. And I just, I think that
- 2:52:13hopefully there were a lot of people at the end of that.
- 2:52:16I was like, fuck, I guess I'm standing at BTS now.
- 2:52:18I was like yes you should, so did its job but you can't get a
- 2:52:22ticket sorry. That already happened way
- 2:52:26before, and I'm glad I did before the album dropped.
- 2:52:28I mean, you can, but the prices are crazy for resale.
- 2:52:32Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 2:52:35Also like they get, they go, they go up for.
- 2:52:36Sale for like I get like an alert of when like this thing
- 2:52:38goes up for Sale by the time that I've seen it clicked on the
- 2:52:41e-mail, clicked on the link and said oh, it's gone.
- 2:52:43I'm like, bloody hell, like yeah, people are on it.
- 2:52:47So one thing I do need them to get their act together.
- 2:52:51On is the freaking light stick OK, and I don't have time to go
- 2:52:55into this. We can talk about this later,
- 2:52:56but it brought me to when you were talking about the like
- 2:52:59scarcity market. Don't do that for the light
- 2:53:01stick, especially if you're not going to make it available after
- 2:53:03a certain time. You only want us to use this new
- 2:53:06version. You have like I'm lucky I could
- 2:53:09use my version 3 for the stops I'm going to when I go to the
- 2:53:13stops with Gina, I can't and I want it.
- 2:53:16So that would be you asking. You don't get it, No.
- 2:53:19Because they messed up with Target.
- 2:53:22And they only had like 20 of those probably at each store.
- 2:53:25And like people were lined up since like 5:00 AM waiting for
- 2:53:29that even had to put a limit on it.
- 2:53:32It's it was a wild at Target. I I was.
- 2:53:35There. But I was there for Caitlin
- 2:53:37because she wanted one of those sweatshirts, targeted, exclusive
- 2:53:40sweatshirts. Yeah.
- 2:53:41And they never went on sale. Online because they didn't have
- 2:53:44enough and I don't know when they're going to restock.
- 2:53:47And Weavers also hasn't restocked.
- 2:53:49I'm just like, yeah, even after all that.
- 2:53:53Like big corporations? Underestimating the the pull and
- 2:53:56the desire for BTS 2 all this time I got mine from Korea and
- 2:54:02it came very. Quickly and I'm very.
- 2:54:04Happy. Yeah, Unfortunately I was asleep
- 2:54:06when they. Went on sale so I even have a
- 2:54:09fighting chance. Yeah, yeah, it's fine.
- 2:54:13I'll find a. Way it's fine, but yes.
- 2:54:15Everyone. That was the documentary of BTS
- 2:54:19The Return. Yay.
- 2:54:23Any closing thoughts we have? Overall, I'm just excited to see
- 2:54:27BTS. They're bad guys.
- 2:54:29Sometimes it doesn't feel real, but you know, they're, they're
- 2:54:32truly, truly back. We've waited so long for this.
- 2:54:36I know there's a lot of controversy going on with this
- 2:54:38album, but at the end of the day, I'm enjoying it.
- 2:54:41I'm shaking ass when I need to shake ass.
- 2:54:43I'm crying when I'm crying. Listen to it a couple times.
- 2:54:46I can kind of tell, like which ones are my favorites and which
- 2:54:48ones I don't really care for now.
- 2:54:49But again, that's part of music. That's part of, you know, that's
- 2:54:53the nature of just you don't have to like everything your
- 2:54:57face put out, and that's OK. Am I saying I hate them?
- 2:55:00No, it's just not for me. Am I still going to be like,
- 2:55:04singing along and crying if they perform those certain songs at
- 2:55:07the concert? You bet your ass I am.
- 2:55:11So I'm running my life. I'm just going to.
- 2:55:13Say I. Played it.
- 2:55:16In the gym yesterday when I was upping my weights when it was
- 2:55:20like really tough. I like I got my personal best.
- 2:55:23I did it. You know, I think it's part of
- 2:55:25me, but I also think it's part of them.
- 2:55:27So thank you ETS. This is a great album.
- 2:55:30Also, I just anyone's still feeling like you need to give
- 2:55:33the time to ruminate, just try it.
- 2:55:35Try it on the leg press machine. Try it when you do goblet
- 2:55:38squatting to fire. It's great.
- 2:55:41It's great. I love it.
- 2:55:43It's great time. I'm just ready to see what this
- 2:55:46tour has. In store, I'm ready for tour
- 2:55:48season, I'm ready to see all the fan cams, I'm ready to see all
- 2:55:54the pictures. I'm just ready to go.
- 2:55:57I can't wait. Like I'm I'm swimming into the
- 2:56:00next thing. I think I'm just really excited.
- 2:56:04I think we've all been waiting for this moment and it's finally
- 2:56:09here. And I'm just.
- 2:56:11Excited to share it with like all of my friends.
- 2:56:14I have friends now. It's so it's so nice to have
- 2:56:18friends that get excited about the same things as you.
- 2:56:23And I think everybody's going to different stops, Everybody who's
- 2:56:26going to be sharing their experiences.
- 2:56:28And I think for me, that's like one of the best things.
- 2:56:31Like yes seeing BTS obviously is the ultimate but like getting to
- 2:56:36hear my friends talk about it and get excited even more is
- 2:56:42just an added benefit to having a community and having a fandom.
- 2:56:46There is toxic spots in the fandom for sure, but the pockets
- 2:56:51that you call like, create is what makes the fandom great, is
- 2:56:57like, what makes the experiences better is being able to share it
- 2:56:59with people that you have pulled into your life because of the
- 2:57:04fandom. So if you don't have friends in
- 2:57:06the fandom, now's the time to make them go on those tour dates
- 2:57:10and meet some people. Yeah.
- 2:57:12Since you're trying, yeah. I mean, like, I've been here,
- 2:57:16like I said, it'll be 7 years in October, I will have been in
- 2:57:21this fandom and there have been some pretty low lows in that
- 2:57:24time in terms of behavior, in terms of scandals, in terms of
- 2:57:28conversations, you know, people. But I think like a lot of us,
- 2:57:33there's a reason why I'm still here, why a lot of people are
- 2:57:35still here and still are just buzzing with so much enthusiasm
- 2:57:38for their tour. It's because of them.
- 2:57:40I think their enthusiasm like gives us energy.
- 2:57:43Like you can see how wearing to go, how much they've waited, how
- 2:57:45glad they are to just have this kind of freedom to do it.
- 2:57:49And I think just, yeah, like the Army community is, you know,
- 2:57:53like I said, they definitely got our we got our issues for sure.
- 2:57:57But the end of the day, you take the rough of this move and I
- 2:58:01think like, yeah, it's just really nice to found a group of
- 2:58:04people that like, you know, even when we're just behind each
- 2:58:07other up, like, you know, it. They'll definitely be things
- 2:58:09that they will do on the on the tourist stops in the US that I
- 2:58:13will probably be absolutely seething with jealousy.
- 2:58:16And I just recommend people avoid me on that day.
- 2:58:19But then there's going to be something that they're going to
- 2:58:22do in London that they aren't going to do anywhere else.
- 2:58:24She's going to be on the other front and I'm going to love it.
- 2:58:27So yeah, that's the that's the community part and I love it
- 2:58:30yes. And of course, if you listen to
- 2:58:33us, if. We're, you know, the only place
- 2:58:35you can, you know, fangirl about BTS.
- 2:58:39We will definitely be talking about the tour and the tour
- 2:58:41stops that we go to. So look out for that as well.
- 2:58:44You know, we're all just here to share a common interest before I
- 2:58:50do my closing. Shannon, was there any, you
- 2:58:52know, shout outs for you personally that you want to give
- 2:58:55people like where to follow you? Thank you again so much for
- 2:58:57joining us on once again. It's a very long episode.
- 2:59:00I just knew I knew we were going to go over time.
- 2:59:02It's fine. We like to talk 100% a hundred.
- 2:59:06Percent. Where can you find me?
- 2:59:08So I am at I'm not going to be able to spell this out Schnee on
- 2:59:13TikTok. I have been quiet recently, but
- 2:59:15then I have kind of come back with a bit of renewed energy for
- 2:59:18the comeback. I am on a discord with these
- 2:59:20guys and that is where I spend a lot of my time.
- 2:59:23So I mean, I think, I think it's a bit of a close Discord, but if
- 2:59:26you know, people, maybe give yourself an invitation.
- 2:59:29And yeah. And then I'm on, I'm on Twitter,
- 2:59:32I'm ransing, I'm just, I'm about, I'm about most people
- 2:59:35will just see me like ranting in separate platforms and then
- 2:59:38they'll just like have the connection.
- 2:59:40So just know I'm lurking wherever you are or whatever
- 2:59:44social media platform. You want to use like for people
