Transcript
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Today, my new friend Tracy Mail, a health empowerment coach and the host of Conversations That Heal, is joining us here on the podcast.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Tracy works with women just like you who feel like they've lost themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: And she helps them rebuild their energy and reconnect with their bodies in a way that actually feels sustainable.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: You can hear why she's my new friend.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: And I'm really excited for this conversation because what she sees happening in the body overlaps so much with what we see happening in the nervous system after divorce.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Hi, love.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Dear Divorce Diary, the podcast helping divorcees go beyond talk therapy to process your grief, find the healing you crave, and build back your confidence.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Don Wiggins, a therapist, coach, integrative healer, and divorcee.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Join me for a fresh approach to healing grief and building your confidence after divorce.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Tracy, yay for this conversation.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Thank you, thank you.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: This is a good thing.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Thank you for being here.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Tell us just a little bit about how you got into this work, why you're so passionate about it, you know, what sort of lights you up when you think about helping women.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Okay, nice.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Well, my own I've been through it myself.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: So um I think my biggest thing is women, I find once you hit over 40, you start noticing more.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: In your 30s, you're still, you know, quicker, right?
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: So I want to help women realize that there's options.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: And just because you go to a doctor and they say, Your labs are fine.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: You're, you know, there's nothing wrong with you.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: Must it's just hormones, it's just aging, it's whatever that just is, right?
- 2:49unknown: Yeah.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: There are options, right?
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: You're not crazy, you're not by yourself.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: I'm pulling this stat out of my head out of the air here, but it's gotta be 95% of women are going through this, right?
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: You think that's true.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: Or even higher than that.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: I know you made it up, but right.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's not so yeah, you're absolutely not alone.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: I went through I had ocular migraines all my life.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: I had severe, severe constipation, obvious um um ovarian cysts, oh my goodness, blood sugar crashes.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Uh, if I didn't eat for two or three hours, I would but again, I go to the doctor, and you well, you don't have type 2 diabetes, you don't have anything wrong with you, your labs are fine within range.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: So I suffered and suffered and suffered all these until I was 50.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: I finally changed, I took it into my own hands and changed what I was eating and changed some things, and here we are.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: So, yeah.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: I want to help others do the same.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: You know, one of my newer pet peeves, and I bet you relate to this, is where the gap is, like the actual gap that we're gonna talk about today is like doctors are saying your labs are fine and this is just aging and we're really being gaslit, right?
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: When we know that that there is so much more we can do to reclaim our health.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: And then the sort of quote unquote, I'm doing air quotes wellness industry that pops up on our Instagram feed or TikTok shop, right?
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: And they're selling us like a million protocols or um, and those things also often aren't the answer.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And so there's like a gap in there, and I think it's very frustrating for women, and we're trying to fill that gap with it conversations like these, right?
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: And your podcast, Conversations That Heal.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: Yes, that gap is more of a crevice, right?
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: It's a crevice, I know, it's a crevice.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, you hear women say things like, I just don't feel like myself anymore.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: What does that actually look like in real life for the women that you work with?
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: It's the you know what you're something comes up and you used to be able to deal with it like no problem, right?
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: And now you're like, oh my tr just trudging through trying to get through that.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: Or somebody says something or some stressful thing happens and you would be able to fluff it off and carry on.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: Now it consumes you, it it makes you exhausted, it's you know, it just eats at you.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: Those little things are now piling on, piling on.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: It feels like the weight of the world on your shoulders, right?
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: You're waking up and you're I just got that pain.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: I can't why am I hurting?
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: I'm going down the stairs and my knees are hurting, my feet hurt.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Like what is happening?
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: My ankles are starting to swell.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: I can't think straight.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: I've got foggy brain all the time.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: I I don't feel like me anymore.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: My hormones are all over the place.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, wow, yeah.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: And what a scary thing.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Like feeling like a loss of control.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I used to know how to deal with this thing, and my old bag of tricks is not working.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: It that's another thing, right?
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: You'd used to go there gaining weight all of a sudden.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: And you used to maybe change what you're eating a little bit.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: You'd work out a little more, and voila, that five, ten pounds would be gone.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: And suddenly you'd you do all those things and you're up another five pounds.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: Like there's j there's always your hairs thinning.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: That's the big one, right?
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: What are the biggest ways that stress or life changes start affecting a woman's body?
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Because this is what you sort of started to study, right?
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Is yeah.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, exactly.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's funny, like I think we don't pay attention to the warning, like the signs, not warning signs, just the signals, right?
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: It's that you're getting headaches more often.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: You don't pay attention to the fact that you're getting headaches more often.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Or you explain them away.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: It's the lighting, or oh, it's I'm tired, or I must not be hydrated.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: Yep, exactly.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: I had too much wine or whatever, right?
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: There's always an excuse.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: That's a big one.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Putting all the excuses.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: You're you're you want friends want to go out, you know?
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: You're older, but you want to have a girl's date or something.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: And you agree to it, but then when the time comes, you're like, Oh, why did I do that?
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: You make up excuses not to go because you're just wrecked.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: You feel wrecked, and you can't go and just have fun and relax.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: Um, so there's just all those little things that start showing up.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: You your digestive system starts to get wonky, right?
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: You whether whether you're getting constipated or you're getting more diarrhea type of stuff, you're just always cramping, right?
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: Ovarian cysts, I don't know if you've had an ovarian cyst, man, if they burst.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so painful.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: So painful, right?
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: Like all these little things are your body saying, hey, you know, pay attention to me.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: They're happening for a reason.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: And if you were to take all of that data to the medical profession and say, like, is there a mental or emotional component to this?
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: In my experience, the bulk of them, not all of them, but the bulk of them say, no, it's just just normal.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, that it's part of being a woman.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: That's the way it is.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: But your experience is that that is not true.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: Absolutely not.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: Absolutely not.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: And I think too, because you have specialized doctors, which is great, but they don't all talk to each other, right?
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: So you're going to one person for your gyneological issues, another person for your migraines, another per right?
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: I'll told there's all these things, the chiropractor because your body hurts, or whatever.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: And really, the therapist probably has the bulk of the necessary data.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: So if we just you have to pay attention to your own body and trust your own instincts, right?
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: You feel like something's off just because somebody in a lab coat or whatever tells you you're fine, that doesn't mean you're fine.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Trust your gut, right?
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: So what do you say to women who feel like they're doing all the quote unquote right things, right?
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: Taking their supplements and exercising and drinking water or whatever, and they still feel off.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Where do you invite them in?
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: What's what's that conversation starter look like?
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: That's that's a good one because you are big on the nervous system stuff as well, right?
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: So, and I think that's where if you are eating a clean diet, you know, okay, that's off the table.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: I've got that down, right?
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, great.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: Now, how's your sleep?
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: If you're not sleeping good, are you maybe exercising too much still for your system?
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: What's your stress levels like, right?
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: If you're completely stressed out, where's that stress coming from?
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Is it that's a loop right there?
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: So many women use the gym to cope with their stress and distress, but then it's keeping that cortisol cycle alive.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: And if you take the gym out, now they have all this stacked up charge in their body, emotion, stress, anger, you name it.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: And then where does it go?
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: What do we do with it?
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: Exactly, exactly.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: And is there more going on?
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Do you have a thyroid issue?
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: Just because your labs are okay, doesn't like the range of the labs are so huge, and it's the normal for the majority.
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: But billions of people, right?
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: You're not the majority, right?
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: So it might not be normal for you.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: Maybe your thyroid is off, or m you know, there's all these things.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Are your hands cold all the time?
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: Your hair's thinning, are you more tired than normal?
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Libido loss, mm-hmm.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like yeah, dryness, right?
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: Dryness, mm-hmm.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, all those things.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: More anxiety, itchy ears, like is weird stuff, yeah.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, very weird.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: Your eyebrows start to thin, like you know, they get on the sides here.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: There's all kinds of stuff.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: Puffy ankles, puffy wrists, your hands, all that stuff, right?
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: So you just have to pay attention, exactly.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: And we get so scared of symptoms, right?
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: But I like to call it body talk, like our body is talking to us just like yeah, our friends, family, our children.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know, like it's just talking to us, and we keep pushing the snooze button.
- 12:05unknown: Right.
- 12:05unknown: Yes.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: Or being afraid of it.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: Why are you talking to me?
- 12:09unknown: Yeah, exactly.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: I can't hear you.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: So true.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so yeah, what to your question?
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I answered your question there, but it's it's more just if you've tried all the things, then it's time to go deeper and and don't just assume, well, hey, this is just me now, because that's that's bull.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: That is where we go to die, right?
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: Right, exactly.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: You keep looking, keep digging, keep searching.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: So you will find your way.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: So one of the conversations that has become very popular over here, I don't know if it's reached the masses yet.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: I don't know if we're talking about this on TikTok yet.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: I think we are, but I don't know.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Maybe you'll tell me.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: But this idea that the body needs to feel safe in order to release certain things.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: Very much so.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: You find that that's true in your moon as well.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: So, so true.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Talk a little bit about that.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: What you see, what you'd like women to you know, where are you trying to help them get to?
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: How does a woman try to feel safe in her body from your perspective?
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: Well, and that's a big one for myself.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: Like I again, I went through that myself, right?
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: And I don't know if you ever finished going through that stuff.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: Like it's you know, life is always happening.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: You always have these little triggers, right?
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: And so having the tools, you can help yourself along, but I think it's uh probably a lifelong thing.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: Um anyway.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: Um when again, if you're you can be doing everything right.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: It's the uh what is that mindset is I just did a thing on this.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: Mindset is the engine, motivation is the fuel, right?
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: So you can put engine.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Yes, so you can put high grade fuel into a lawnmower engine, it's still a lawnmower, right?
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: So if you upgrade the engine, your system, your nervous system, and and get rid of that stress, then all your motivation, your willpower, your all of that positive stuff now takes you to the next level.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: But if you're you have all the willpower, you have the mindset like okay, I'm gonna do this, here I go, but your system is so stressed out and so tired, it's not you're not gonna get the results, right?
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: So you have to get your mindset around that so your motivation can actually tell that was a weird way of saying all that, but I love it.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: All right, so yeah, if you're the stories, it comes back to the nervous system.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: The stories you tell yourself, stories you tell yourself.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: Yes, and that's you're feeling safe.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: And they're all the stories we were told as kids.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: You're not good enough, you're not smart enough, or you have to be a certain way to get attention, or you have to keep people happy.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: All the stuff that we end up in a you know, divorce and horrible marriages because of all this baggage that and the little kid inside of us is telling us that we're not safe, right?
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: So you I think we have to learn to catch those triggers.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: Again, your stress.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: What is your stress from?
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: Is it a is it justified or is it a stress from an old story you're telling yourself is no longer true, right?
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: So that's a a whole headset, brain, mindset thing to deal with.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: There's a a nuance in here that I would love for us to help women feel into a little bit more, but I think we've gotten decent understanding, okay, there are certain foundations of health, right?
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Like hydration, nutrition, sleep.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: And then we've sort of wrapped our heads around the mindset conversation as well.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Like we we love manifesting and we love finding a good affirmation or whatever.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: But maybe we haven't learned how to feel into those things, how to feel like they're true.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: People say a lot, do women say to you, like, I know that intellectually, but it doesn't feel true.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: And I think that's one of the biggest, I would say gap.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: You would say chasm also, right?
- 16:12unknown: Yeah.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Um, which is why I'm crazy for the homeopathic remedies, because I think they help fill that gap between the mindset, the belief system, and the motivation helps it feel true in my body.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Um, and I see this, what you and I have never talked about this, it'll be interesting.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: I'm taking a left turn here.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: But I think this is what happens a lot in religions.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: We're taught a certain framework of belief, but then it doesn't feel like my God is a benevolent God, or it doesn't feel like I'm not being judged in church, or it doesn't feel like I don't know.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: I think we're missing the under yeah, fears.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, talk about that, the fear.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: The good fearing and all yeah, that's yeah.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: When you talk about religion, and yeah, everybody is living in fear.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: So is it legitimate fear?
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: Are we being chased by everybody says this these days, are you being chased by the tiger?
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Or, right?
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: But you don't have to be chased by a tiger to have fear.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: You can be a phone call you know is coming that's gonna stress you out, or it could be a talk you have to have with your boss, it could be a talk you have with your spouse or a child.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: It could be anything that's stressing you out, and that is your tiger, because your body's reacting like it's back in in those days, right?
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Where you were being chased with all this craziness.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it's calming that down, and it's not an easy thing, it's not oh, just say some positive thoughts and think happy things and all life is gonna be peachy rosy.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: That's just not reality, right?
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: So it's a lot of work, I find you have to find somebody you're comfortable with, someone you can really talk to and open up with and just be yourself.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: You don't have to say, you know, you don't have to try and please that person or make them happy, and then when you're talking with somebody like that that you're comfortable with, they can maybe give you a different perspective of you know how you're seeing things, and you just can discuss it with no judgment.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: It just helps you just to visualize or not visualize, but to view your circumstance maybe a little differently, right?
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: And you can just I think that just especially women, we need to talk, we need to communicate, we need to be there with each other, right?
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Like that's for whatever reason, women seem to go for the longest time.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: We don't have our each other's backs very well, right?
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: We don't yeah, we're more in competition for some man's validation.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Ah, great car backing each other, yes.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: And that is so much what's missing from our sense of safety in the world, right?
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: We're trying to get a sense of safety from and I know that women are starting to come back into that.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: It feels like it anyway.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: We're all starting to have each other's back and come for screw the men sort of thing, right?
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: Let's let's uh help each other, you know, first.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to man bash, like that's not what's of course not, of course.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: But if I'm married Yeah.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: No, I know me too.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: But uh I think it's slippery slope where people are like, oh, you know, that's not where we're headed.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: But no, no, no, my goodness, no.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: I just mean, yeah, we have to worry about ourselves, eat women more so than trying to please the male figures.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right?
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: Um, do you sometimes see women falling into trying to fix themselves with a routine or a protocol rather than reconnecting with their intuition?
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Talk about that a bit.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: And again, I think that's where I learned myself, right?
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: Because I was a personal trainer for many years in my 30s.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: I l I loved that.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: I used to go to women's homes and train them in their homes and all that.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: I loved that loved doing that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: But you get into that framework of, oh, you have to work out this way, you have to do this kind of thing, or you're watching all the YouTube videos nowadays, right?
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: Where you're gonna eat you have to eat this and you have to do that.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: And I think we it's a big I think that's what confuses it's confuses everybody, right?
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Because it's like, well, if I eat carnivore, then I'm gonna be fantastic.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: And I'm I love carnivore, but I know it not everybody should be carnivore, right?
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: So, and even myself, I will I've been eating that way for six years, and I think my body is now done with it.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: Like it's time to start, you know.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: Again, you listen to your body saying instead of trying to please a group of people, you know, vegetarians, whatever your thing is, right?
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: You have to listen to what works for you.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: And I think that's where people they they're always searching, searching, searching for that one magic pill, whatever it is, right?
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: And we've we're chasing, chasing, chasing instead of just listening and thinking, well, this makes sense for me, so this is what I'm gonna do.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: You know what else we see sometimes?
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: I wonder if you've had this experience where sometimes we're trying a protocol or we're looking, we're chasing something down and it's not the thing we need.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Sometimes we have to give something time to work.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: How do you help women discern which it is, right?
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Did I get, did I get, did I make the wrong choice, right?
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Or is this not the thing for me, or do I have to give the body time?
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Because I think we've been trained with uh suppressive medication that I take a medication and it immediately stabilizes my blood sugar, it immediately takes my headache away, or it immediately, whatever, what you know, versus recovering the body is such a journey.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: Yes, it takes time at a cellular level to repair all these pieces to re-nutrient.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right, right, ready to recreate to allow that nervous system to become more flexible again.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: How do you how do you discern?
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe just for yourself, how do you discern when something needs time to do its magic versus actually this maybe not the protocol for me?
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: That's a good one.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Um if it comes down to food, right?
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: If you're changing your food, you're gonna, especially if you're going to like an elimination type of diet first, right?
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: You're gonna feel worse before you feel better because you're detoxing.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: It's you have to don't panic, right?
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Give yourself a week, two weeks to really go through and clean your system out.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Make sure you're drinking lots of water, be smart about it.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: You know, don't if you're getting sick, sick, stop.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: But if you have to, or maybe go less, don't go so hard at it, right?
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: Baby step it.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: Um I find a lot of people, myself, I was very bad at I had to do an all or nothing.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: That's just who I was, right?
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: But as you get older, all or nothing is not good for your system, right?
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: So if you want to do an elimination diet, cut back little things at a time.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: Obviously, get rid of the obvious culprits, right?
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the processed foods, the sugars, all that stuff, right?
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: Um but just baby step it and you will start feeling better real really quick just by doing that, and that might be enough, right?
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: So you'd I think.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: You gotta baby step everything.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: And once you get to a point, if that is no longer working, baby step it a little more.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Try, okay, well, I've gotten to here.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm still eating this crap.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: Or the you know, the stuff is maybe not optimal for me.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: I can't do fiber.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: Everybody says eat fiber, eat fiber.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: I cannot eat fiber.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: So you have to again see what's working for you.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: And if you're working out, working out, working out, and you finish your workout and you feel tired, that's a big sign.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: You're not getting rejuvenated from it anymore.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: You gotta back off.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: And if your body's go ahead, yeah.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: No, that's so so interesting what you're bringing up that you know, the individualized person, right?
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Because the body adapts based on the stressors it's trying to cope with.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: So one of the ways your body has adapted with the stressors that it had to cope with in a lifetime.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, right, which somewhere in there included a divorce.
- 24:38unknown: Yes.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, was not to tolerate fiber.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: And now what I'm hearing you say is that your body is now giving you signs that maybe that's not the adaptation it needs anymore.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Yep, absolutely.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: So it's this constant listening and conversation.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: And would you say in general, slowing down?
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously it would be like such a luxury for us all to be able to slow down, right?
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: But you mentioned the chasing, chasing, chasing earlier.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: Like just sort of really slowing down how quickly we make decisions or pivot from something.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, that's a big one.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: Um, just taking again, like you say, everybody's so busy, right?
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: And you're like, I don't have, you know, half hour or whatever to sit and meditate or whatever.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Just two minutes.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Take two minutes if you're sitting, right?
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Look out the window, just be in that moment.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: Don't think about what's coming up, don't think about what happened last night or five minutes ago.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: Just be there and look outside or whatever.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: Look at some picture that you makes you happy, right?
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: Yes, and feel that.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: That'll help lower your cortisol, it helps bring your stress and your nervous system, feel safe.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: So just those little things, micro things throughout the day, right?
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: Huge, huge.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: Such good wisdom, Tracy.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Such good wisdom.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: If someone feels overwhelmed and not like themselves, as we've been discussing, right?
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: Where do you usually recommend women start from that place?
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: What's a like a first, second, third step that you you like to Okay.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: Um, I am big with starting with food.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: Okay, just and it it's kind of I guess it depends on the person, but where you're you have to look at where your stress levels are.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: What's going on in your life, right?
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Um well our listeners are completely stressed on every level.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: That's exactly.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: So I think the one thing for myself, and I've seen with so many people, if you get clean up your food first, then that's no longer an excuse that somebody can use for you.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: Like if you go to a doctor or what when they do check your labs, the food's not given false readings, right?
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: So get the sugars, get all that stuff out of the way.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: And then at the same time, it's not one thing at a time, but you you start cleaning up your diet, you start working on the stories you tell yourself, you're really the mindset is a huge one, right?
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: And like I say, we're all extremely overwhelmed and extremely stressed out because of life.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: Look at if you're working out, that's a such a big misconception.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: I have to do more cardio, I have to do more.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: If you are seriously stressed out, doing more cardio is probably not what your nervous system wants.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Going hard at it, especially when you're over 40.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness, go for a nice walk, you know, do something more calming and loving to your body than get regulating, right?
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Yoga and not yoga that's like uh power yoga, not no, like yeah, like yeah, and just be just calm down, right?
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: And little things at a time.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: So that's your mindset, your movement, your nutrition, and then your sleep.
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: Start getting a good sleep cycle or a routine, and that's myself.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: People say, Oh, just turn your lights off, keep your room cold, and you're good, you'll sleep through the night.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: That doesn't didn't work for me.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: That that didn't work for me.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: No.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: No, right?
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: No, because your brain doesn't stop.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: You're laying there and it's just that overfunctioning.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: Man, yeah, you're constantly looking at patterns and trying to think, and your brain, every conversation, every thing that's coming up, what am I doing?
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: You lay there and you can't sleep.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: So I am a big I always had a TV, right?
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: Uh not always, but I found that worked for me.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: Whether you have a sound machine or whatever it is, right?
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: Something that keeps your brain from taking off.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: I have a I watch Seinfeld.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: That's I put I've seen it.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: And it puts you right to sleep.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Right to sleep.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I've seen every episode.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: I could probably recite every episode.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: I put it on.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: You set the timer on your TV so it shuts up.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right, because you don't want it playing all night because then it's gonna keep your brain active.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: But that helps at least break that cycle until you get everything else under control.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: It's not an all or nothing thing, right?
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: I have often through my life agree, fallen asleep to TV instead of timer, absolutely.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: No.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: I have endeavored to shift that input, but sleep is the most important thing, right?
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Have you ever tried, you know, I've gone through periods in and out with sleep meditations and very specifically like like subconscious work.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Have you ever done that to fall asleep?
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Has that ever been helpful for you?
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: Um yes, I had that on why there was one.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Do you have you heard of Newcom?
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: You know that app, Newcom?
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: And I have that now, so I've been using it recently.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: Dabbling.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: Yep, and it helps it help pretty neat.
- 30:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a pretty neat thing.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: Um it helps it helped with my deep sleep, level of deep sleep.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: It did not help me go to sleep.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: Fall asleep.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: So I'm yeah, that's my thing is still getting to sleep.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: But once I get to sleep now, I stay asleep.
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: Or I used to wake up at 3, 2:33 every morning, right?
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: That was that was like every woman pretty much, right?
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: So that's a really interesting point though, because even the tools that we use to fall asleep or stay asleep or affect the quality of our sleep, could be different based on what we're listening to as we're falling asleep.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Really, really interesting.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: We're developing a product over here, um, a homeopathic product for sleep and stress.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: So we'll be bringing that online soon.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Um, I'll have to send you some.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: See how absolutely.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's so exciting.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, if a woman is listening and thinking to herself, like, this is me.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: I'm just so stressed out and my old tricks aren't working, and I don't feel like myself, what would you want her to feel or take away from this conversation we're having today?
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: Um, I think the big one is you're not alone, right?
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: I think a lot of women feel like, well, she's got it all together, or that one's got it all together.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Uh there's something wrong with me.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: Why can't why is this not working for me?
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: I've tried all the tricks and nothing is working for me.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: You're not alone.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: You will find the path for you or the trick for you, right?
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Like that's you just have to keep keep looking and don't try to jump on like with the masses, right?
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Or don't follow the masses.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: What was that saying?
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: Well, drop the M and you're anyway.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: Um I've never heard that.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: Uh picking up what you're putting down.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Alright, right.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so yeah.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: Read, learn, do your own investigating into things.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: Teach yourself as much as you can about nutrition, about movement, and see what makes sense for you, right?
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: Like if you think vegetarianism is then do that.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: If you want to eat meat and that makes sense to you, do that and see if your body agrees with what you're thinking, right?
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: You'll find out pretty quick.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: I went vegetarian before I did the meat diet.
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: And I learned I did that for two months, I felt fantastic at first, and then it all went crashed and burned on me and all like okay, right?
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was data.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: That was data.
- 32:41SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 32:41SPEAKER_02: That's exactly.
- 32:42SPEAKER_02: You learn what your body likes and doesn't like.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: And as we, you know, you start going through perimenopause, postmenopause, etc., your system is going to change.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: So just because something worked for you when you were 50 doesn't mean it's gonna work for you when you're 56.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: You just have to constantly be learning and listening and talk to people, talk to people, right?
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: You'll it's shocking what you find out when you talk to people.
- 33:12unknown: Yeah.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Stop saying I'm fine.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Yes, exactly.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: Tell them what's going on.
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: You'll heal have other women saying, I've gone through that too.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: This is what I tried, or don't do this.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness, but you know, you just have those conversations.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: You never know where that's gonna take you, right?
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: Where you're gonna what you're gonna learn.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: And I think again, I I keep going off once when you ask me questions, but yeah, I love it.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: It really comes just I don't want to say, oh, you have to be a long lifetime learner and take on yet another thing to do because we're already so overwhelmed and stressed out, right?
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: But I think just knowledge is power, and so yeah, it's one of the highest frequencies on the emotional guidance scale.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, there you go.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like learning, education, it is very high vibe.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: And so the problem isn't the concept of, yeah, go educate yourself and inform yourself, right?
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: The problem is when we put pressure on ourselves to solve it all right now.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Right now, yeah.
- 34:15unknown: Not gonna happen.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we want the pain to all be done now, and we want all the money in the bank account now, and we want the perfect new partner now.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Now, yes, and we yes, we are if you can baby step it.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: If you can baby step it, all of a sudden that great big mountain, right?
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: That you thought, how am I ever gonna get there?
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: All of a sudden you're at the top, you don't know how you got there.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you just and I think it it's so much better when we're doing that mountain together, right?
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: Yes, one of my favorite parts of podcasting is this the getting to build my community of women who are having similar conversations and who are teaching me things and who have opened up doors to right, it makes the whole journey where we're laughing together, we're learning together, we're crying together, we're commemorating over yeah, what the heck is going on at night when I cannot relax.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: It's yeah, it's journeying together is a total game changer.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: I agree a hundred percent.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: I absolutely love it with the podcasting.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: The the people, I say this all the time, the people I'm meeting are so amazing.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: It's like, wow, what a tribe to be gathering, right?
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: I just so so happy.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Yes, ladies, find your tribe, yeah.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, find your tribe.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: And talk to them, share with them.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: Just be real, right?
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: And help.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Your new podcast, Conversations That Heal.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: Tell us a little bit about that.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: It's exactly what it sounds like.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: It's just a conversation, right?
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: 20 to 30 minutes just with people like yourself.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: And it's for people that for for women that don't want to keep taking medications if at all possible, they're they're tired of maybe taking medications and not feeling better, they want natural solutions, they want you know, they're stressed out, they're depressed.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: What you know, how can I get out of that state in a natural, healthy way?
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: And just I want people to feel heard.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: I've got questions stacking up in my brain.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: How do you feel, or like what's your experience with the supplement hustle, right?
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Like it's like a it's a hustle these days.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: It is such a hustle, and it's terrifying.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Like, because people like ah, it's just a vitamin.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: It I hear that so much, but you know, that iodine, everybody uh you you'll hear that all the time.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: Everybody needs iodine, everybody needs iodine.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: And I believed everybody needed iodine, but it can also, depending on your situation, it can increase your Hashimoto's, uh huh.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: Which happened in my case, right?
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: And so they don't share all of that stuff.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: That's where the knowledge and doing your own just educating yourself on stuff instead of just blindly following somebody totally uh the liver and the kidneys have to metabolize all those supplements, and and if your gut isn't absorbing them, and then what if they're not for you?
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: So this brings me to my next question is have you had an expert on yet who's talked about the MTHFR gene mutation and it's how it affects how it can affect how you metabolize B vitamins and it can cause depression and other mental health issues?
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Super interesting, right?
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: So you haven't had one of those.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, one of us should manifest one of those experts.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: Okay, yes, I'm gonna write that down.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: I it was in my feed today, and I've been suspicious that I have an MTHFR gene mutation for a very long time, and that a lot of people in my family have that.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: I haven't actually gotten tested, but it's part of this whole like what your body can metabolize and what it can't, right?
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: We're all so big on B vitamins, but for people who are MTHFR, non-methylated B vitamins can't be metabolized or absorbed, and it actually makes all your symptoms worse.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: This is that interesting, yeah.
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, okay, we absolutely have to find somebody to talk about it.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: We gotta find somebody for that, yeah.
