It's still welcome everybody. Welcome to this week's edition to Store Reel to Show
0:21
episnumber seven hundred and four for August tenth, twenty twenty three. This is
0:26
your WWE SummerSlam Recap and Review edition of Apps Are to You. I am
0:33
one Apple Show. I am Jeff Peck joined every single week my cost theoly
0:38
doctor Trey Franklin, Doctor Trey. Has your brother ever turned his back on
0:42
you? My friend? Uh, let's see which one I have? Several?
0:47
So I have I have one, two, three, A four step
0:50
brothers and my real brother. So three of them? No, two of
0:56
them? Yes? All right, okay, stay tuned. I mean that
0:59
could be head line in a pay per view soon. Well yeah, but
1:03
then again, that Elton involved me actually getting back into a ring, and
1:06
that's not happening any type too. All right, fair enough, fair enough,
1:08
We'll trying to again in a couple of months. Folks. Welcome,
1:11
welcome, one and all to this week's edition MASSR to you, obviously recap
1:15
and review. With Summer Slam here momentarily the biggest party of the summer.
1:19
We have things that are going on with all in London. Some fallout from
1:25
Summer Slam that we'll talk about here all on this week's edition of SRTU.
1:29
So let's get into it, Doctor Trey. This past Saturday SummerSlam Ple from
1:34
Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, which also held which WrestleMania Doctor Trey.
1:40
Oh random Guess twenty eighth, twenty three, twenty three, which was headlined
1:49
by John Cen and Shawn Michaels. Oh, okay, that's actually the one
1:56
that made me said, because I'm a Shawn Michael's fan. First. Yeah,
1:59
it was originally supposed to be Triple and John Cena going one on one
2:04
as a rematch from wrestle May twenty two, but Triple H got hurt in
2:07
January, New England New Year's Revolution. I almost a New England Revolution,
2:10
which was a soccer team New Year's Revolution. I believe it was in Puerto
2:15
Rico. He tore his Quadraceps again doing a spinebuster, I believe in I
2:20
think an elimination chamber match. I'm not. I don't know. I may
2:23
may have messed that one up, maybe in a tag team match, but
2:25
nonetheless, it was the home of WrestleMania twenty three, and they're back there
2:31
for summer Slam fifty nine thousand strong and attendance for this year's edition of Summer
2:37
Slam, Doctor Trey. The first match here was Logan Paul defeating Ricochet.
2:40
We both had Logan Paul getting the victory. Really good match. Logan Paul
2:45
having less than ten matches under his belt performing at that level is pretty amazing.
2:49
The brass knuckles ending made sense as it added Logan's growing heel persona,
2:53
and he also didn't beat a regular talent. Clean good spot for Ricochet and
2:58
happy he had this opportunity, fun match, Doctor try to kick off the
3:00
show. Yeah, really good, really good match. And I'm sitting there
3:04
watching this, I'm going I still really don't want to enjoy Logan Paul matches,
3:10
but I do. And I mean that Buck shot Larryot over the top
3:15
rope down to the floor, like even though the clothesline wasn't clean, just
3:17
the fact that he can pull that off, Like, I'm like, all
3:20
right, this guy's crazy athletic. Him and Ricochet had really good chemistry.
3:23
It was a really good spot for Ricochet to be in to open up the
3:27
show. It was a fun little match. I was a little bummed out
3:30
about him not getting a push on Monday night, but you know whatever.
3:35
But yeah, like overall to kick off the show, I was like,
3:37
damn, this is that they're setting the bar pretty high for two guys at
3:40
the crowd. I don't know about it is. The crowd was kind of
3:43
it into the beginning, but by the end they were fully invested. Oh
3:46
yeah, they were. They were loving and it wasn't I know, this
3:49
is gonna sounds strange because of the amount of spots that they did, but
3:52
I didn't feel like it was two spot monkey ish. Yeah. I mean,
3:57
I don't know about you. I was expecting another one of those mid
3:59
air collisions like we saw at the Rumble, and we didn't get that.
4:01
It was, you know, very very smartly contested, like we saw Logan
4:06
Paul going to the ribs trying to slow down ricochet things like that. Like,
4:11
it was a very very smart match for two high flying guys. The
4:15
only thing is is I never know who these like friends of Logan Paul are.
4:18
I'm sure somebody listened to this podcast does because he's very popular. No,
4:23
I had no clue who the hell was the person that put the brass
4:26
knucks on his hand for the victory. And just like I didn't know who
4:30
KSI was from WRESTLEMANI this year when he came down that prime mascot outfit against
4:38
Seth Rollins. So that's really the only thing. It makes me feel old,
4:40
But love murhadum Logan. Paul is a phenomenal athlete and he's really picked
4:45
up wrestling and he's been a fun character since he came on several years ago.
4:50
Next match here is Cody Rhodes. IFITTI and Brock Lessler, we both
4:53
did. Cody Rhodes getting the victory. A very well booked match. It
4:56
looked like your standard Brock Lesser match, except Cody rose. Cody Rhodes would
5:00
not stay down. Cody persevered, overcoming the beast and receiving the most important
5:04
thing Lessner has rarely done, and that has given his respect to his opponent
5:09
post match in the ring. The vote of confidence raised Cody's game and Jody
5:13
could be the guy in dwe. I thought it was telling. Cody defeated
5:16
Brock literally the same way he'd almost defeated Rains at rustum Ny thirty nine in
5:19
April. Great match. Doctor Try really enjoyed how this was. But Cody
5:23
Rhodes defeating Brock Lessner. Yeah, this was like I didn't know if this
5:28
matched the top the Ricochet Logan Paul match, and I thought it was a
5:30
fantastic match, Like this is kind of It was a lot of old school
5:35
storytelling with you know a little bit of you know, Cody's new school style
5:41
mixed in, you know, the top rope Cody cutter, Brock taking that
5:44
I don't know aboutjub I was like, really, whoa Brock took that move?
5:46
Okay, but yeah, it was It was all about David overcoming golife
5:51
in this one, and he finally did in the end. So getting that
5:55
handshake, I mean I could probably count on one hand how many times Brock.
5:59
I've seen Brock shake somebody's hand. I think it's once. Maybe I
6:02
don't know, But to actually get that post match, I thought that was
6:05
really telling. And then also sets up for Brock comes back Brock and come
6:10
back into a baby face because Cody won him over. I guess. Next
6:14
match it was La and I winning the SummerSlam Battle Royal sponsored by Slim Jim,
6:16
which is not sponsor the show. I had La and I doctor Trey
6:20
Bobby Lashley, who was not in the match, but you went, you
6:24
went deep cut there to get the get the victory in this one nonetheless fun
6:29
Battle Royal, w makes the right calng goes with the fan response to finally
6:31
equal the crowd reaction to victories for l A Night, Yeah, Doctor Trey
6:39
La and I gets a victory. Yeah it was. It was an okay
6:42
Battle Royal. I didn't get it wasn't like I've seen some better ones recently,
6:46
better booked ones. The O Moss stuff I thought was pretty cool.
6:50
Uh. My only complaint was at one point Omas picked up Butch and Riddle
6:54
and Corey Graves, didn't you know mention, Hey those are former nx C
6:58
Tag Team champions. He's just throwout you know, like that's a yep.
7:03
Yeah. So outside of that, like it was fine, it helps La
7:10
Night get over some more. But then, you know, how do you
7:12
go from winning a Battle Royal too, I don't want to say dropping back
7:15
down to Miss, but doesn't that feel kind of like a step down from
7:19
winning a Battle Royal at SummerSlam? I don't know. I think the Miss
7:24
stuff is more like cementing him as a baby face, because who's like one
7:30
of the more hated heels in the company. But the Miss. Yeah,
7:31
I think the biggest thing to me is and who knows that this is gonna
7:34
be longer if this is longer term, But La Knight is a SmackDown guy
7:39
showing up on raw right now for no reason whatsoever and may be feuding with
7:45
the Miss, So I think the more outside of that as well. I
7:50
actually I hate to do this, but I didn't think La Night did a
7:54
good job in that promo back and forth with the Miss this past month,
8:00
which kind of goes down into this deeper path that I've I've had on the
8:05
rundown for the podcast the last couple of weeks. What we just haven't gotten
8:09
to it is is there's this you know, organic meteoric rise right now for
8:13
La Night. And I usually get behind these things and I like l A
8:18
Night, but I'm not to the level of the crowd reaction he's getting.
8:22
And I don't know if that's because I remember him in Impact Wrestling as Eli
8:24
Drake. He did a run with NWA for a little bit as well.
8:30
I mean, he's he's been out there for a long time. He was
8:33
with an NXT for like almost two years, and you know, I grew
8:39
up in the Attitude era, and I get that they're playing off on that
8:41
he's a throwback to the Attitude era. But I mean, there is so
8:45
many similarities to Steve Austin and The Rock that it kind of becomes a little
8:50
corny. I don't know if I'm fully behind the La Night you know,
8:54
Organic Rise like everybody else is right now, doctor try you know, I
9:01
see the comparisons to Austin and Rock and it doesn't really bother me because I
9:05
can look at other guys on the roster and go, yeah, I mean
9:07
this guy's kind of like this or this guy's very similar to this guy.
9:11
My issue with the La Night Rise is that you're absolutely right, like everybody
9:16
thinks he's a great promo. Miss smoked him, like Miss I mean,
9:20
he couldn't touch Miss Monday Night. But that's the part of the issue is
9:24
there's no depth to the character yet, and he's been all over the map,
9:30
you know, since coming onto the scene. We saw few with Bray
9:33
Wyatt, and then you know, he's over here, then he's over there,
9:35
and so like, we really haven't fleshed out who La Night is.
9:41
And that's one of the things it does like miss calling him flavor of the
9:45
month. I'm like, yeah, right now, I do kind of feel
9:46
like he's flavor of the month until we get some more depth to this character.
9:52
So you know, fans are gonna cheer for who they cheer for,
9:54
and you know, we really haven't had a guy that's that's had a great
9:58
catchphrase to really spark the crowd. Maybe since the Daniel Bryant Yes movement,
10:03
maybe this is it, But we do need some more depth to the La
10:05
Night character for me to fully get on board. Yeah, and I think
10:09
that they're missing the boat a little bit with his theme music, Like how
10:11
are they not kicking that off with just like him doing yeah to to kick
10:16
off? Not that weird like l A Night robot voice, Like yeah,
10:22
I don't know, a little strange, but I don't know. I don't
10:24
know if we'll start continue to dig deep here on the L and Night stuff.
10:26
But I'm not on the same level as as most of the fan base
10:30
right now. It's really enjoyable to watch because it's rare that you see this
10:33
happen. But yeah, I mean he's been around for a while, I
10:37
mean kind of know who he is. Shandon Baysler defeats ron A Rousing and
10:41
an MMA rules match. We both at Shandon Basler getting victory. Bold Booking
10:46
moved by w to hold this match after a shotgun feud and with the MMA
10:50
rules stipulation. The crowd was dead and the stipulation of an MMA rules match
10:54
doesn't really bode well for wrestling fans. Nonetheless, for what it was,
10:58
I thought it was a fine match that made booking sense, with Shanea joking
11:01
out Ron to help elevate her during Rousey's latest w E exit, Doctor Trey
11:07
your thoughts, So, I actually really enjoyed this, and you know this,
11:13
I'm not a big UFC guy. I have never, like outside of
11:16
the the Tito Ortiz, Rampeys, Jackson, Chuck Liddell era of UFC not
11:22
really got in behind it. I like this for the technicalities of it,
11:26
like the you know, the submission holds and how they encounter them. Also,
11:31
you know, you see Shana showing up, you know, Monday Night
11:33
with the black eyes, like I feel like they were really fighting. Jeff,
11:37
Yeah, I know there was, I know there was you know,
11:39
of course some pro wrestling mixed in there, but there were times in there
11:43
I'm like, I think these two ladies who are best friends are really throwing
11:48
down right now. So I really enjoyed. I know the crowd wasn't into
11:52
it, and I get it. It's not your typical standard WWE thing.
11:56
It's not we've never had a match like this before. But just for the
12:01
science and the technical prowess of watching those two ladies counter each other's submission moves
12:05
and doing them in ways that I hadn't seen before, I was like,
12:09
this was pretty cool. So it didn't have the sizzle that made most of
12:13
SummerSlam has, but you know, it was a really good, solid entree
12:18
at least. Next match, here's gun Through defeating Drew Mcatar to retain the
12:22
w W Intercountinental Championship. We both had gun Through again. The victory match
12:26
what we would expect from gun Through and Drew, hard hitting and entertaining and
12:28
well booked. The finished a surprised because it fell short and gun Thro went
12:33
on a metally of big moves to put Drew away. Dutch Trey your thoughts,
12:35
there's gun Through retains When was the last time we saw Drew get defeated
12:39
cleanly? Like clean? You know that was that was really telling to me
12:45
as well, Like, and I don't want to say this match as a
12:48
letdown, but yeah, it felt like there was still some stuff to go
12:52
through. And then you know, even post match, Drew walking away and
12:54
I'm like, this is the last time I see Drew again for a little
12:58
while. Like this just kind of felt. It felt odd, and I
13:01
mean it's hard hitting as hell. He saw the welts on both guys.
13:05
I mean, they were beating the crap out of each other, but the
13:07
finish was really really strong for Gunther, and I'm like, we're going from
13:11
Gunther and Drew to Gunther and Gable. Like that's a weird transition to go
13:16
with. But you know, I'm happy for Chad Gable at least, but
13:20
it's just kind of weird. We look at like the threat of somebody beating
13:24
Gunther's like is Chad Gable that guy? When Riddle and MacIntyre couldn't do it?
13:30
So weird transition, Okay, match, Yeah, just kind of like
13:35
it wasn't on the level what wrestle media was. I guess that's why it
13:39
kind of bugs me. Gun Thur will be taken on Chad Gable. I
13:41
believe this Monday on Raft Chad Gable one a really great fatal four away match
13:46
with Ricochet, tomasel Champ and Matt Riddle. He looks poised and primed to
13:52
end Hockey Talk Man's long as inter cardinal title Ragin Dr Trey. I'm here
13:56
for it, and I think I think most fans are as well. Yeah,
14:01
and I think part of it is also is like this is what w
14:05
loves when they have a falling out with somebody, to put somebody up in
14:09
the record books to replace them. Hockey has not been a WWE guy really
14:15
in quite a long time. So although I wish miss had done it years
14:20
ago when he had his countdown to the record, but Santino had one too.
14:26
Santino had one also. I mean, the the Honky meter was one
14:31
of my favorite things back in the days when as a kid, but the
14:33
Gunther meter does have the same ring to it. But he's been dominant even
14:35
though he looks like he does. I don't know about you, he looks
14:39
weird since he lost the weight. I'm like, I liked him bigger.
14:43
I liked him better when he was bigger, But I mean, like Drew
14:48
looked like a pro wrestler compared to Gunther. Gunther looked like an angry grandfather
14:52
who came out to chied a child for getting in their yard, you know
14:54
as SummerSlam. That's an interesting analogy that you threw out there. Didn't see
15:00
that looks like Walter math Ou a little bit. Yeah, I guess,
15:05
I guess, I don't know. Look at for all you, for all
15:07
you young people out there in for Jeff Peck, go look at a picture
15:09
of young Walter Mathou. Okay, he looks like Gunther, Young Walter Mathou.
15:15
I guess I'm gonna have to take a look at this. Yere real
15:16
quick, young Walter math Ou. I'm sure I spelled it. Maybe the
15:28
hair, I don't know, man, hare's the ears, it's nothing,
15:31
I don't know. It's just like he just reminds me. He just looks
15:33
like a grumpy old man. No, hey, that's that's the whole German
15:37
deal, right, Yeah, that's true. I mean, even even like
15:41
Ludwig Kaiser looks like he's I think Kaiser's like thirty two, and he looks
15:46
like he looks like he's a fifty two year old man. Like he just
15:48
looks pissed off. Also like Vinci being the one Italian in the group is
15:52
the guy who actually looks his age. Yeah, no, that's true,
15:54
that's true. Yeah, well that's the Italians. You know. I could
15:58
say that because I am you know, I mean to me And this could
16:03
be a good deep dive someday. It's like, how the hell do you
16:04
turn Gunther baby face? At some point? Like how does he have a
16:07
baby face run? I just don't. I don't see it anytime sim But
16:11
I'm happy that Gunther's probably going to surpass the intercontinal title ragin because I think
16:15
Triple H wants one of his guys to have that spot. By the way,
16:22
think about if you think of Gunther's two title rains he's had in this
16:26
company, it's over a thousand days on two title rings, because he had
16:32
the UK title for over six hundred days and now part of it that was
16:34
because of the pandemic and stuff, but six other days as UK champion over
16:38
four days as Intercontinal champion, that's pretty damn impressive. It is, it
16:42
is, And that just goes to show you how much like Triple H really
16:45
likes and respects him, and and I'm for that. I think I think
16:48
next year twenty twenty four, if I'm putting stock and a guy for having
16:52
a big twenty twenty four, it would be Gunther right now. So I
16:56
think he is going to be somebody that will be a you know, part
17:00
of the face of the company here in the next decade plus going forward.
17:06
Next match here, Seth Freaking, Rollins, ifeeding Finn Boaler retained the de
17:07
w WE World Evweight Championship. We both had Finn Balor after I convinced Doctor
17:11
Trey to finally pick Finn Balor. Great match, the final five minutes was
17:15
a lot of fun. Looking forward to seeing how they internal strife and the
17:18
judgment day seming from this match plays out, especially from what we saw this
17:22
past Monday on Raw. Doctor Trey initial thoughts here on the match Seth Freak
17:27
and Rollins getting the victory. Damn Jeff Peck forgetting me to change my pick.
17:33
But you know, I really enjoyed this match, and those guys have
17:36
great chemistry. I mean the power bomb spot that you know, Finn hit
17:40
Seth on the floor, the top, the throwbacks to the match from seven
17:44
years ago, you know, both guys paying homage of that match with Seth
17:48
coming out the original ring vests, you know, Finn having the seven and
17:52
then highlighting where the scar is on his torn labor. I'm like, all
17:56
that stuff is so good. The match was good, Judgment day playing into
18:00
it, the stuff with the briefcase, like, all that stuff was really
18:03
really well done. You had me on board, though. I was looking
18:07
forward to seeing Finn with the title, and you know, Damien teasing the
18:11
cash in the entire time, but they're going in a different route, but
18:17
the feud continues on and now you're just sliding Cody Rhodes into the mix as
18:22
well. Well, let's talk about the great booking here. So there have
18:25
been two times so far this year where Cody Rhodes is in line to challenge
18:29
Seth Rons. I think he did it. Was going to do it after
18:32
Money the Bank, looking towards SummerSlam and Brock returned, and then that got
18:36
stopped, like he was on the verge of saying something from a microphone,
18:37
and then Brock came out and then they had that brawl, and then he
18:42
does it after the Brock feud. It looks like they're poised for most of
18:45
the show that it's going to be those two got to be feuding moving forward,
18:48
heading to do I believe Payback in September, and then Shinsky Kamara takes
18:55
out Seth Rollins to close out Raw this past week, which now makes you
18:57
believe to believe that maybe Cody's gonna go feud with Judgment for a little bit
19:03
while Shin and Seth Rollins do some sort of match at Payback. Thoughts on
19:08
the way that they're booking this, Doctor Trede, it seems like they're elastic
19:11
banning a little bit where they dip their toe just to touch to give you
19:15
Cody versus Seth. Cody gonna be setting a sights on the World of aweight
19:19
championship, and then recently it was like, okay, now the foot's in,
19:23
He's getting in the water. But then they kind of pull it back.
19:26
If we're going to get Shinska and Seth moving forward. Maybe they're saving
19:30
this for Survivor series, maybe they're saving this for Royal Rumble, but they're
19:34
making the anticipation grow for an eventual Seth Rollins Cody Rhodes World of aweight Championship
19:41
match, which I'm digging. Do you see it the same way that I
19:42
am? Yeah, it's so we were throwing back to old wrestling. It
19:48
reminds me a little bit of Macho Man Hogan, you know, back in
19:52
the day where they're the two most popular guys in the company. They would
19:56
kind of tease stuff and then they finally went full fledged. I don't know
19:59
if they're gonna a full fledged, you know, megapowers explode type of thing
20:03
here. But you know we've talked about the show. I hate heel heel
20:07
matches and I hate baby face baby face matches because the crowd isn't is into
20:11
those as your traditional matchups. I do think they're dipping their toes in the
20:17
water to try and hedge their bets. Like I wouldn't be surprised if we
20:21
had a match here the next couple of months and that's when Priests cashes in,
20:23
like where Cody actually wins the title, but then Priest cashes in and
20:26
Cody only gets that short little run. To me, I'm still on board
20:30
with Cody and Roman at next year's WrestleMania for Cody to get the payback against
20:36
Roman, but you know, they may pull the trigger on it sooner and
20:41
get him on with the World Heavyweight Championship. Next matchers Bianca Belaire defeating Osca
20:45
and Charlotte Flair, and a triple front match to win the w W World
20:48
WW Women's Championship almost called the Women's World Heavyweight Championship, which is owned by
20:53
Ray Ripley presently Osca, who we had winning that match, did not.
20:59
Both Doctor Trey and I fun triple threat match. Some original spots I've never
21:02
seen before in a triple threat match. I liked the Bianca bel Air injury
21:04
angle that led into the next match, which we'll get to in just a
21:07
second. But Doctor Trader thoughts on the triple threat match, Yeah, actually
21:11
that was so when the match started, like, okay, this is my
21:14
chance at you take a break for a minute. So I was able to
21:15
go get some food and I came back in for the last like eight minutes
21:19
of it, and the last eight minutes was fantastic. I had loved,
21:22
you know, the Bianca injury spot. I like. By the way,
21:26
kudos for WW whoever it was directing the show, if it's Kevin Dunner somebody
21:30
else, to not show the knee hitting the stairs or the knee actually knee
21:34
injury, but because otherwise that would have given it away that it was,
21:37
you know, a work, but overall, like the match was really fine.
21:41
It was a great finish, like the miss in the face, the
21:45
small package roll up while still in the figure four. That's all stuff I've
21:49
never seen before. So being a wrestling fan of forty years is still see
21:53
stuff you haven't seen before. It's pretty great. A little surprised they had
21:57
Bianca go over it, just because, like why I think it's a chase,
22:04
Doctor Trey. I think it's all about the chase, which we'll talk
22:07
about the next match here. So but yeah, overall, like it was
22:10
a really really damn good women's tripple. Thresh by the way, before we
22:14
move on, so we have the women's championship in the women's heavyweight championship.
22:19
Yeah, so does that mean nobody under over or nobody under two or five
22:26
pounds can challenge Rea Ripley, Doctor Trey, you know how this goes.
22:30
I mean that ship does not apply anymore. I mean because Lord loves seth
22:33
Rons. But I mean I think you can make a case that he's probably
22:37
like, what two fifteen, I would say he's two oh six, So
22:41
that way he's on. Who wasn't the had the oh was the back of
22:45
the cruisery division where we had was Buddy, Yeah, Buddy, Matthews had
22:49
to constantly keep you on the way he is. I think we need to
22:52
have Seth have every a prop way in to make sure they're over two oh
22:56
five so they can challenge him, because Finn would not be over two h
22:59
five. I'm with you. I just think it's to be world champion,
23:03
WE champion, stuff like that not universal. I am not a fan of
23:07
that name for a title, but yeah, I am totally with you on
23:11
all that stuff. Next match here is EO Sky defeating Bianco Belair to win
23:15
the WE Women's Championship. We obviously did not predict this match, so EO
23:18
Sky cashes in gets the victory is the new women's champion after defeating the brand
23:23
new women's champion, Bianco Belair. It was starting to feel like a cashing
23:27
was possible once Bianco won, but it was a nice surprise ultimately to see
23:30
the Eo climb the mountain and win the championship. It'll be interesting to see
23:34
how this plays out with Bianco being injured. Overcoming the obstacle to the injury
23:37
by winning the championship back, only to lose it in a matter of minutes
23:41
to EO Sky. It was also great to see Dakota Kai back to celebrate
23:45
as well, because she deserved that moment. Damage Control deserved that moment a
23:48
group that was kind of floundering the last six to eight months, and here
23:52
we are EO Sky climbing the mountain Doctor Tree. I'm happy for EO.
23:55
She's awesome, So congratulations to her. Yeah, I love EO. She's
23:59
also there the one who introduced me to music by Poppy, so I'm thankful
24:04
to that as well. I actually don't like I like Poppy. She's actually
24:07
pretty good musicians, So yeah, no, look, this is really cool.
24:11
Like I've been a big EO fan ever since her time in n XT.
24:15
I love where she went crazy and everything else, So I'm really happy
24:18
about this. It's, also, like you said, kind of brings up
24:22
the level of damage Control again. And then where does Bailey fit in this?
24:25
Because you saw Bailey out there right decide EO cleaning house to help EO
24:29
get the win. But you know Bailey's and Alpha so does this, and
24:33
they had tension all the you know, the last few months as well,
24:36
since Dakota's injury, So does Bailey turn on EO and make EO a baby
24:41
face? And how does that play in? And then I don't know if
24:44
you saw this report, but Kyrie's saying maybe coming back to w W as
24:48
well, great minds think alike here. That was gonna be the next thing
24:51
I brought up. So reports coming out over the weekend, Kyro you saying
24:55
is honor way back to due with November being a potential return date Kabuki Warriors
25:00
maybe reunion. But it looks like Kyrie is not gonna be sticking around bushy
25:03
roads stardom New Japan. The face there's Mercedes Mona had some offers reportedly from
25:10
AW. She decides to go back to the company that she knows and that
25:12
is WWW. So good big signing here by WWE. Kyrie saying back in
25:18
the fold, and we'll have to see where where this takes us. Maybe
25:22
we're kind of seeing the seeds being planted right now with a Kyrie same return.
25:26
Yeah, and then maybe you know, EO, Osca and Kyrie all
25:30
work together, or we get Kabuki Warriors and damage control. Like I don't
25:33
know, I think the crowd actually really wants to cheer damage control like they.
25:40
I mean, everybody loves Bailey. Bailey is he heals great? Bailey
25:41
is a baby face, is great. Eo wrestles like a baby face.
25:45
Everybody likes Dakota as well, So you know, I could see them going
25:49
that route as well. And then how does Bianca and Charlotte fit back into
25:53
this picture that all of a sudden got really really crowded at the top.
25:57
Well, that's what I was going to ask you here, So you know,
26:00
the potential road could be that Bianca got cheated out of her championship at
26:04
nine of champions right, she got the mist in the eyes. I think
26:08
Oscar sprayed it on her fingers, got it in her eyes. That's how
26:11
she got the victory. She finally wins a championship back she's injured, but
26:15
then Eo Sky cashes in. So now you could be getting the direction of
26:19
she's fighting back for you know, trying to overcome adversity, Bianca belair,
26:26
or you go the route where she continues to get cheated out that Brett Hart
26:30
cry baby era which helped turned her turn him heel. I love Bianca as
26:36
a baby face, but if you go back to those NXC days, Bianca
26:40
as a heel was pretty damn amazing as well, and that's she was a
26:44
heel predominantly. I don't think there was ever a time that she was a
26:47
baby face and NXC and I felt like she's been getting stale a little bit
26:51
lately, and I feel like maybe a heel turns coming because fans do want
26:56
to cheer on EO Sky Doctor Trey. I feel Bianca there are times that
27:00
they want to make her the female John Cena and you know, not Turner.
27:07
But once again, I think Bianca's stuff's a little stale. I agree
27:11
with you that the crowd wants to cheer EO. Plus you have the tie
27:15
in with whatever they do with Bobby lash in the street profits. You know,
27:18
are the profits turning heel and going with Lashley? If they do that,
27:22
could Bianca join them because we you know, and then have that rival
27:26
group to actually what Judgment day is. So there are ways to go with
27:30
this, and like you said, I agree that I think the crowd wants
27:33
to cheer EO. The only thing is, once again, where do you
27:36
fit Charlotte is because as much as we all respect Charlotte, Charlotte as a
27:41
baby face never works, so I kind of liked her playing that tweenter role
27:45
between Bianca and Osca. So it's gonna be interesting to see how they fit
27:49
her into this picture as well, because I mean, I mean, there's
27:53
reports out that they want her to be a seventeen time Women's Champion, and
27:56
she's only two away from that number, So how does she fit in it?
28:00
Because there's also reports I read that she was to go into professional bodybuilding
28:04
more and take more time away from WWE. Yeah, it's interesting times from
28:08
the woman division and how they're going to go about this. Obviously, creative
28:11
has an idea as always, or audience's organic reactions may change all that.
28:17
So I think it's a pretty cool time to see how these SmackDown Woman's division
28:21
is going to be going forward. And then finally the main event here of
28:23
Roman Rains defeats Jay Usso in a tribal combat match to retain the undisputed go
28:27
to a Universal championship and recognition as the tribal chief. We both had Roman
28:33
Rains getting the victory. Good match, great storytelling. I'm interesting how the
28:36
Jimmy Usso turn plays out on television heading into the Payback pay per view.
28:40
The Bloodline storyline continues to be really good and taking turns that you least expect,
28:44
like Jimmy Ussos turning on Jay since Jay went to this match to defend
28:48
his brother's honor after he was laid out by Roman and Solo. What's good
28:52
about this storyline stuff is when you think it's going one way, it goes
28:56
another. That's when you have a lot of good professional wrest in storylines.
29:00
I know this match is quite debated post Summer Slam, right now, I
29:06
enjoyed it, Doctor Trey, what were your thoughts here as Roman Reigns defeated
29:08
Jay Usso, yeah, I enjoyed it, and it got me to buy
29:14
in more into Jay being a main event guy. I know that's his nickname
29:18
because he may invented a town of Smackdowns, but main eventing pay per views
29:21
is different. Like, this was really really entertaining. It helped elevate j
29:26
upper level. You got the sympathy factor of his own twin brother turning on
29:30
him, which I'm gonna be interested in SmackDown because I want to see how
29:34
they tell this story because, like you said, he went in this match
29:37
defending his brother it was his brother that turned on Roman first. So it's
29:42
like, all right, and then I'm gonna be interested like who they move
29:48
into, you know, side with Jay in this because the one thing SmackDown
29:53
really hasn't done is helped elevate the next baby face up because all the baby
29:59
faces that Roman had kind of defeated and moved over to raw. So who
30:02
do you slide up into that into that space between now and Survivors series.
30:07
So the whole situations, like you said, just when you think it's going
30:11
one way, it goes another. Now the whole situation is kind of influx.
30:15
Maybe it's solo because we saw a little bit of tension at Summer Slam
30:19
was solo in Romans. So I'm gonna be interesting to see how they played
30:22
this story out and where it goes from here, because right now, like
30:26
it's entertaining, but you're kind of at that weird cross roads where we're like
30:30
it could either go really really well and keep me entertained, or you know,
30:33
are they going to jump the shark so to speak. We'll get into
30:37
a little bit more about the Jimmy and Jay stuff here momentarily, but Paper
30:41
View Prediction Records coming out of SummerSlam, I went six and two. Doctor
30:44
Trey went five and three. On the year, I'm at seventy two and
30:47
twenty five Doctor Trey sixty six and thirty one. Match of the night and
30:52
event rating. I gave Summer Slam a four point three out of five and
30:56
my match of the night was Cody Roads and brock Lessner Doctor Trey. What
30:59
say you? I was four point two, so I was a little bit
31:03
under you, but I also had Cody and Brock. I decided that was
31:06
really great storytelling and the very like old school in new school blended properly.
31:12
So there you go. I agree with you absolutely and that for you.
31:15
And again we talked about it here. The last couple of months caught us
31:18
by surprise. We weren't in favor of it, and then they quickly want
31:21
us over. So props to Cody and Brock and Match and I for both
31:23
Doctor Trey and I four point three to four point two ratings as well.
31:26
So another solid pay per view from World West Entertainment. And now they move
31:32
on towards Payback. But in a couple of weeks it'll be all about AWS,
31:37
all in and all out. We'll be taking our attention moving forward here
31:41
and we'll talk about all in London here soon. Jimmy US Versus j US
31:45
it's coming up here, Doctor Trey. You can make a case like Damn,
31:49
I don't want to see the US's break up. They're the greatest tag
31:52
team of all time. They're probably right now in their prime, the greatest
31:56
prime of any tag team we've ever seen in the history of WI and professional
32:00
wrestling ever because of how elevated they are, I mean, headlining WrestleMania is
32:06
no other tag team can say they've ever done that right now, other than
32:08
Kevin Owens and Sammy Zane also, but like a legit, we came in
32:14
day one as a tag team and main event and WrestleMania. No one else
32:17
gonna say that like the USOS. So now we're getting this Jimmy versus Jay
32:22
layer to it. As you and I recorded the show. Obviously, we
32:24
have not seen SmackDown because it airs on Friday. We don't know why Jimmy
32:29
did what he did. The setup for this match was perfect I thought in
32:32
SummerSlam going into it, and then the turn of Jimmy on Jay was something
32:37
I did not predict and really enjoyed seeing. With that said, I look
32:42
at this and all I could think about is back in nineteen ninety three.
32:45
November nineteen ninety three, I came home to sit down and watch Survivor series
32:51
at my parents' house. I was a young six seven year old at that
32:54
point, and I was looking forward to the Heart Family taking on Jerry Lawler
33:00
and his Knights. Well, Jerry Lawler got in a little bit of trouble
33:02
and then the Knights were led by Shawn Michaels. In that match, Owen
33:07
Hart turned on Brett Hart and the family. Or is actually what happened was
33:12
he was the only one that was eliminated because everybody was tending to I think
33:15
Brett who was knocked off the apron. They were feuding around Christmas time.
33:21
They reconciled and then they went to a tag team match at Royal Rumble nineteen
33:24
ninety four where Brett and Owen would be taken on the Quebecers. Brett got
33:29
hurt in that match with his knee and they lost Owen. At the end
33:32
of the match, they were, you know, Owen you could tell was
33:36
visibly upset, but they're trying to make amends and he kicks the knee out,
33:39
the bad knee out from underneath Brett Hart and starts a huge feud with
33:45
Brett Hart that goes on for about three years until they reconcile and create the
33:49
Heart Foundation, just prior to Brett's exit from WWE for a very long time.
33:53
So now we have a potential similar Brett versus Owen Hart with Jimmy and
34:00
Jay and Brett versus Owen is one of my favorite feuds of all time.
34:02
It got me into professional wrestling to the degree that I am right now.
34:07
Do you think this Jimmy and Jay usso feud could be on that level of
34:12
Brett versus Owen. I don't know if it'll be on that level because of
34:20
one caveati that there's the cool factor for me, which is these are twins.
34:27
They literally for the better part of their entire run in w B,
34:30
I couldn't tell them apart. Thankfully, of the last couple of years.
34:34
They have different hairstyles, so I can kind of distinguish them now, but
34:37
for the most part could never tell them apart. The Owen Brett thing was
34:43
little brother, big brother, and almost anybody that has a brother can relate
34:47
to that the twin aspect of it is a little bit of a different dynamic.
34:54
Also, you know, Brett had already been a world champion. O
35:00
was still looking for his place. You know, Jimmy and Jay have been
35:02
equals the entire time, Like neither of them have a singles championship. You
35:07
know, they've never won tag team championships without the other. So it's a
35:09
little bit different in that level because there's not a top guy feuding with his
35:15
little brother. These are guys who are perceived to be on very similar levels.
35:20
I think the twin aspect of it could help the dynamic, but I
35:25
just don't know if they're on that level of where Brett Nohan were. And
35:29
I mean, you can't relate to having a twin brother. I can't really
35:32
tapping a twin brother. I can really having a little brother. And you
35:36
know, we always bumped heads a lot growing up, just because you know,
35:40
I was good at certain things. He was trying to get on my
35:43
level. He was better other things than me, and I was always trying
35:45
to compete with him. So it's gonna be an interesting dynamic because we had
35:49
a little bit with you know, Solo and Jay. That's little brother,
35:52
big brother. But you know, Jimmy and Jay is a different dynamic.
35:55
It's like having a Bree and Nikki had a feud that would they did,
36:00
and that was not good. No, And that's what I'm worried about,
36:04
because you know, it's it's well, there's wasn't good because neither of them
36:07
could really wrestle for that time when they were actually in a feud, but
36:10
some of the worst vignettes of all times as well. But I did see
36:15
an interview with Jay recently or he said his dream match was to wrestle Jimmy.
36:21
So I'm really on board and cool with this because you know, we
36:25
talked on this show a lot. Best friends, like real life best friends.
36:29
Would they have feuds? They're great matches. This is real life twin
36:32
brothers. I mean, who would you trust more than your twin brother in
36:37
a match to keep you safe? So I think the matches would be great.
36:40
I just don't know if you know thirty years or you know, thirty
36:45
years from now, you're referring to nineteen ninety's thirty years ago. If thirty
36:47
years from now, I'd be like, hey, remember that Jimmy and Jay
36:50
feud. I just don't know if it's gonna be a full fledged feud or
36:53
just you know, kind of a one off thing to reunite the bloodline.
36:59
So Bruss some interesting points there where Owen was the little brother chasing the big
37:02
brother. At that point, Brett was a one time w World champion,
37:07
I think, multiple Interconal champion, tag team title reins King of the Ring
37:12
at that point, and so he's really in the shadow of his brother.
37:15
Could you make a similar case though with Jimmy looking at Jay, because Jay
37:20
has been hugely successful during these last three years of this bloodline storyline. I
37:25
mean he I mean remember that he won like a number one contender Battle Royal.
37:30
Then that started the whole Bloodline stuff, and he was battling Roman I
37:34
think in Helen a Cell and we were like, man, what is Jay
37:37
usso during this doing in this spot? And he won everybody over and a
37:43
couple of weeks ago we talked on them about on the show like he's the
37:45
most compelling wrestler in all of the game right now, Like fans seem to
37:49
really be gravitating towards him, and he has been. He got a great
37:52
reaction on Friday Night SmackDown. That carried over to SummerSlam as well, where
37:55
he was getting the crowd to like really be into his entrance and it was
37:59
really cool to see, Like Jay has a ton of chrisma. While I
38:02
get the point of the comparisons that we're trying to make you with Brett Nowen,
38:06
it is similar in a way as well. I think it's like fifty
38:08
percent Brett Nohen and then like fifty percent Sean and Marty Jannetti, where Jimmy
38:15
is becoming the Marty Jeannetti of this group and Jay is starting to surpass.
38:20
I mean call it like you see if they're both extremely talented, and I
38:23
really like both of them, but from a creative booking standpoint, Jay has
38:28
far exceeded any expectations and Jimmy really hasn't climbed that much yet. If they
38:34
do a long term feud here they do a short term feud, Jimmy could
38:37
be on that same level. So I feel like that there is the jealousy
38:44
that comes to these brothers storylines, these siblings storylines, and I feel like
38:47
it's fifty percent Brett Nohen and fifty percent Sean and Marty right now, Yeah,
38:53
No, that I can see because you can play in the Jealzy angle
38:57
because it was supposedly the elder that selected Jay for this match to be travel
39:02
combat, not Jimmy. If you go back a few weeks ago, it
39:07
was Jimmy that told Roman that Jay should not be a tribal chief, you
39:12
know. So there is that aspect of it, you know, and Jimmy's
39:15
can always you know, bring up the fact that, like Jimmy's the one
39:17
who's been injured more, you know, you go back to that first Hell
39:21
to Cell, Jimmy was out with injury, and then we had the Dui
39:23
stuff as well, So Jimmy's had more bad luck and bad breaks than Jay,
39:29
and Jay's been able to capitalize on it. But it's like I said,
39:34
that twin dynamic is gonna be so interesting to see how they play this
39:37
thing out, uh, you know, and then where does Solo fall in
39:40
everything else? Because I could see them almost doing a reverse, you know,
39:45
from a couple of months ago and seeing Roman and Jimmy against Solo and
39:47
Jay. So it's if they do a short term for you, and I
39:52
think it helps Jay, not Jimmy, But if they do a longer term
39:54
for you, This could be the thing that you mentioned with Owen and Brett
39:58
where Jimmy gets the credibilit that Jay already has in the eyes of the fans.
40:02
Yeah, I mean we kind of saw the Solo Roman wrinkle there with
40:06
the spear and so a little being upset and staring at him, and the
40:10
times that Solo is looking at Roman have been pretty compelling as well. So
40:15
it's a layer to the storyline I did not see. It has me excited
40:20
days later after someone Summer sim going to see where things go. And it
40:23
also is more than likely going to be taking Roman off a television here for
40:27
a little bit where I just can't see him performing at Payback. I know
40:30
that there's an injury to Roman Reigns that happened early on in the match with
40:35
Ju, so I think the latest support from Fightful is that it isn't isn't
40:39
that serious that should keep him out at any length of time, which is
40:42
great for us as wrestling fans. You know, the last time Roman,
40:46
outside of this past Saturday, defended the Universal Championship was actually wrestle mating against
40:52
Cody, so it isn't out of the roma possibility that the next time Roman
40:54
Defensis Championship could be Survivor Series in November given the gap that we saw in
41:00
between. So I'm excited for Jimmy and Jay. It could keep things going
41:05
forward here on SmackDown, we'll see the role that Solo Soko plays and we'll
41:07
see where all this heads on Friday SmackDown, where I believe there's like a
41:10
re acknowledgement ceremony or something like that that are like a Hail to the Chief
41:15
ceremony that they're doing with Jimmy Usso towards Romans. So I'm excited because Brett
41:21
Nowen is one of my favorite storylines of all time, and I think the
41:22
relatable siblings storyline, when played out correctly not Nikki and Burrie, can be
41:27
a really really good stuff on WW television. Speaking of Roman reigns here,
41:32
Doctor Trey, there was report going into Summer Slam. I believe on Saturday
41:36
I read it that Romans WWE title reign will end when quote whenever Roman reigns
41:44
and Paul Hayman Effens say end quote. I don't know if there's any truth
41:50
to this at all, but it obviously comes off very egotistical. I think
41:54
the thing that I take away from it when you when you just kind of
41:58
think and it's wow. Really, how they're going about this is more like
42:02
when Roman decides to go to Hollywood, Like that, to me is what
42:07
we're going to see at some point here, Roman's gonna go in the footsteps
42:10
of Rock Sina, what have you. But when you look at this,
42:16
it's like, wow, Like if that's legit? What's thinking? Like whenever
42:20
they whenever they decide it's over, it's over. That's pretty bad ass because
42:24
a three year title rain coming up here in a couple of weeks, and
42:29
most of the time when that happens, wrestling fans are like, oh shit,
42:32
they're just you know, jam and x y Z wrestler down our throat
42:37
here. You know, John Cena is being jammed down our throat here time
42:39
and time again. I have never once felt that way in three years,
42:44
and in fact, I wanted to hold on it. If it's going to
42:46
continue to be like this great of storylines and matches, I want Roman hold
42:51
on to it as long as possible as possible. So I'm down with whenever
42:55
Roman and Paul Hamman decide it's over. So I, by the way,
43:00
first off, I forgot to mention this when we're doing the recap. Props
43:02
to Roman for taking those leather strap shots because everyone he got hit with cut
43:07
him open. I don't know if you notice that, Like, but the
43:10
elbow was bleeding bad. The next shot him in the back and instantly he
43:14
was bleeding from it. I'm like, that's a dude that you know doesn't
43:16
have to take stuff like that, and he did, so I gave him
43:21
a lot of props for that. I read a similar report where it said
43:24
the other way that belt comes off him is if with the approval of Vince
43:28
and Roman, So like, if if Vince is behind it, Roman's got
43:32
the poll. Yeah, it might be a long time coming, but you're
43:37
absolutely right. Like, I know there are some of the casual fans that
43:42
are kind of sick of Roman being on top. But once again, like
43:46
you look at the roster, there's a lot of talented guys on the roster,
43:51
but is there anybody that could put together a storyline like this and be
43:55
as compelling and not just compelling in this sense of like we've seen Roman doing
44:01
comedy, We've seen Roman doing you know, serious stuff. We've seen Roman
44:05
the bully, We've seen Roman joking around like this run of his has shown
44:10
more depth to his character than maybe the previous ten years he had in WWE.
44:17
So it's really great television with a great character. So it's hard for
44:23
me to go I want to you know, I need a different character.
44:25
No, it's a damn good television character that we've seen run now for three
44:30
years. If it was a TV show, we'd be clamoring for more of
44:34
it. But because it's wrestling and people like new stuff. Uh, you
44:38
know, you hear some people groaning about it, but I'm with you,
44:40
like, I'm on board for it. I like the run. It's helped
44:45
elevate a bunch of people around him. Although I think Solo has somehow learned
44:50
learned to not speak English in this run, because I'm pretty sure he spoke
44:53
pretty good English in NXT, but somehow this process. After the spear,
44:59
he was just point at his stomach and growl like Mike Toddler, like Sammy
45:02
does when he's hungry. Hey listen, we all we all lose that language
45:07
once you make the man roster call up. But yeah, we're here for
45:10
it. Let the Roman reigns Toddle right continue is if he wants to continue
45:15
wrestling and feels like he should be a champion. They've done nothing wrong for
45:19
nearly three years. I am here for it, every storyline, every match.
45:22
It is one of the greatest runs I've ever seen professional wrestling. It's
45:25
been so enjoyable and I'm not hating on at all, and i don't feel
45:30
like I've seen too much. I've wanted to see Moore in fact, so
45:34
great stuff. I'm here for it. Whenever you guys fucking say is fine
45:37
with me. And then finally to wrap things up here with ALI Wrestling,
45:43
no more WI Talk, it was announced All in London will be headlined with
45:47
the AW World Championship match. MJF taken on Adam Cole. We've seen MJF
45:52
take on this baby face persona. Adam Cole has gotten this out of him.
45:57
They seem to be buddy buddy. It's been a strange turn, a
46:01
strange storyline, but a storyline that is different and fun and new, and
46:06
I'm enjoying it and being entertained. But I simply ask you, doctor Troy
46:09
Wembley Stadium. Over seventy seven thousand tickets sold right now. MGF and Adam
46:15
Cold the headline and for the AW World Championship. Is this the right call
46:19
up if you're trying to grow the company and you know both these guys are
46:23
going to be around for a while. Yeah, My question is MJ has
46:29
contracts up next year. Adam Cole, it's kind of a Triple H guy.
46:34
You know, that was the guy when when the Saudi Arabia flights got
46:37
canceled, we got to show up NXT and a SmackDown. Who was the
46:40
guy Triple H picked to headline SmackDown? Adam Cole? So it's a little
46:45
bit of on paper, if these are my two bankable stars and this is
46:50
who I'm trying to help build this thing around, it makes a ton of
46:52
sense. But once again, both these guys could be gone in a year,
46:54
so then you kind of have to question it a little bit. But
46:58
I'm fine with it. Are they the biggest stars in the company. No,
47:01
But is the best storyline going in the company? Yeah, and you
47:06
still got a little time to make it a little more intense heading into it.
47:09
So yeah, I'm good with it. And it's probably the right call
47:14
by Tony Kahn long term for AW to have these guys headlining. Yeah,
47:19
It's a cool call, It's an interesting call. It may not be the
47:22
main event in the eyes of the fans, depending on whatever they decide to
47:25
do here for All in Wembley going on right now, but it was the
47:29
first match that was announced. We're still waiting on FTR Young Bucks to become
47:32
official, but I do feel like this is the right call. It's been
47:37
the few that's been taken over the summer. It's been a very enjoyable storyline
47:43
and I'm intrigued to see how we get to all in London right now?
47:46
Is this baby face m jeff for real? Are they going to remain buddy?
47:51
Buddy? Is the devil still in there? I don't know. We
47:57
saw a after air, off air promo or way that MJFF carried himself when
48:04
they thanked Tony KHN for two hundred episodes of Dynamite recently, and he was
48:07
all baby face and it wasn't a type of character or stick. Maybe it's
48:13
here, Maybe it's here to stay. He was defending the women's division recently
48:16
on Twitter. I mean, he completely went off of the normal character that
48:21
we've seen from MJFF. Maybe this is they finally pulled the trigger on the
48:24
baby face MJFF. We're gonna probably be talking about that in the coming weeks
48:29
here heading into All In. But is this the right call to headline All
48:32
in London. Absolutely, It's been the focus of a double over the last
48:37
several weeks and makes a ton of sense. So MJFF Adam Cole will be
48:42
headlining All in London Wembley Stadium again. We'll be getting you ready for All
48:47
in London all out here in the coming weeks. It'll be here before you
48:51
know it, and then we'll have preview, predictions, recap and reviews for
48:53
both those shows, All In, All Out, All In towards the end
48:58
of the month as we close up summer. Unfortunately. With that said,

49:50
way, folks, I was not involved in the riverboat brawl that everybody is
49:53
seeing sparking up, although I actually know that location and it's right It's right
50:00
down the road from one of my offices, so I know it very well.
50:04
But now, between the riverboat fight and the Leprichn video of years past
50:07
and uh all the guy that they said they out here raping everybody, those
50:14
all three of those videos are from Alabama. So yeah, that should be
50:16
on our tourism board. Hey, anybody wants to see that Lepricn say yeah,
50:22
yeah, one of my favorite Internet videos of all times, that one.
