Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_03: Hi, everybody.
- 0:00SPEAKER_03: This is your host, Randall Wallace.
- 0:02SPEAKER_03: And this is a very special edition for me because I thought you might be interested in all these special events that we've had during this season so far.
- 0:12SPEAKER_03: The uh the presidential announcement being the exception for Bob Dole, but the uh the grand opening at the Bob Dole headquarters, the Wendy Graham event in Hodges, South Carolina, the Third District Convention, and then we have another one that'll be coming up in our timeline when we get closer to the South Carolina primary with Elizabeth Dole at a restaurant in Greenwood.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: All this footage was uh because when I was in college, I was getting my in 1995 and 1996, I was getting my mass communications degree, which is a was a TV, radio production, journalism, um, theater production.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: So as you can see, we're using all of it here with this podcast.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: But we um I was getting my college degree at the time, and because I was in this Mass Com program, I could check out of the the uh media center a camcorder.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: So I had checked these camcorders out because I had to have a project uh for uh to graduate uh with my degree there, and uh what I did was take the the videos and I did two things with those video cameras.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: One is I went to look at all these political events and filmed them.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Now, at the time I didn't have a microphone, which some of the audio has been a struggle, and I know some of you when you've listened to those shows have thought that.
- 1:28SPEAKER_03: Uh and I I also took the cameras and interviewed some of my family members, and I cherish those videos to this day, along with these.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: Uh because I, you know, when I was going back doing this and watching the videos, when you start looking at the crowd, I saw so many people.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: Mayor and Mary John Kname and Mayor Ern and Ermine Knave, his wife, Martha Bishop, Lou Walters, who's still with us and makes the best chocolate chip cookies in South Carolina, I might add.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, and Ellie Litz and Dan Richardson.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: There was a lot of people uh that in Greenwood that I knew from working uh these campaigns that show up on those videos, and I was so, so thrilled to see them again, you know.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: But I was a student at Lander College, and what I was actually making was my Lander College Republican recruitment video because I was majoring in in this Mass Com thing, but I was chairman of the College of Republicans, along with being a journalist for the newspaper, among other things, at the student newspaper.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: There.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: So um I I filmed all this and then made the video.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: And this episode is going to be that video.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: It's not very long, maybe five minutes, perhaps.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: So it might be a longer introduction than the show was actually going to be.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: But uh I thought I'll let you hear the audio.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: Uh, my my apologies to my friend Chris Porter, who volunteered to be the host, because we weren't allowed to be the host of the production.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: Uh, and so he makes an appearance on here, unbeknownst to him, that he would end up on a podcast that was number one in the nation for a little while, 30 years later.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: But uh here is the Lander College Republican recruitment video that was my project in my MassCom class, which is why we have all the videos that we've been able to do these special events with from 1996.
- 3:59SPEAKER_06: This race is about the next generation.
- 4:02SPEAKER_06: This race may be about your parents or your grandparents or your grandchildren or your children.
- 4:07SPEAKER_06: That's what this race is all about.
- 4:09SPEAKER_06: It's about leadership in America, it's about a vision for America, it's about an agenda for America.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: We've got to make these changes not only for our children and our grandchildren, so that they can have the American dream of freedom and opportunity, but we also want to do it so that everybody who missed it the first time around will be able to have a piece of the American dream.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And unless we make the change, I don't think we'll get this chance again.
- 4:46SPEAKER_07: That right line of distinction is when we tell you we're gonna do something.
- 4:50SPEAKER_07: We're going to do it and we're going to have the trunk.
- 5:06SPEAKER_05: Hello, I'm Chris Porter.
- 5:08SPEAKER_05: You're host for this look at Atlanta University's College Republicans.
- 5:11SPEAKER_05: This is an organization on campus that is here to give you, the college republican, a voice on campus, a place to talk, and have your views expressed, in which you can get involved in with political events and campaigns.
- 5:31SPEAKER_05: The college republicans are here for you.
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: I can't urge you enough to get involved in politics here at Atlanta.
- 6:06SPEAKER_04: If politics is of interest to you, this could be the place where you can become involved.
- 6:10SPEAKER_04: Like Congressman Graham says, the revolution is at hand.
- 6:13SPEAKER_04: And as an active part of Atlanta University College Republicans, this is the place where you can be a part of it all.
- 6:19SPEAKER_06: We haven't had the leadership in the White House.
- 6:22SPEAKER_06: We want to balance the budget and save Medicare and cut taxes and reform welfare.
- 6:27SPEAKER_06: I just say to President Clinton, please come up and talk to me and invite us down to talk to you.
- 6:32SPEAKER_06: We're all adults.
- 6:34SPEAKER_06: We want to do the right thing.
- 6:35SPEAKER_06: We understand it's important for America.
- 6:38SPEAKER_05: There you have it.
- 6:41SPEAKER_05: Organization where you can be part of the political party.
- 6:44SPEAKER_05: Thank you and have a good night.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: Special thanks to Lindsay Graham, Wendy Graham, Phil Graham, and Robert J.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: Dole.
- 7:20SPEAKER_06: All right, hang on here.
- 7:29SPEAKER_07: Yeah, my message is look, be involved in politics, help elect me project, help save the country, but remember that your daddy and your mom are paying your tuition.
- 7:39SPEAKER_07: Study hard, make good grades.
- 7:42SPEAKER_07: Don't squander this opportunity.
- 7:44SPEAKER_07: I say that as a father who gives this lecture all his two children.
