- 0:00Speaker 1: You know that former Catherine MP and Mayor Fay Miller
- 0:03Speaker 1: is going to be honored with a state funeral following
- 0:05Speaker 1: her death at the age of seventy five. That funeral
- 0:10Speaker 1: is happening tomorrow. And joining me on the line right
- 0:13Speaker 1: now is a dear friend of Fays, Henry Higgins.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Good morning to you, Henry.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Good morning Katie, Good morning listeners. How are you.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Yeah, really well, Henry, thank you so much for your
- 0:24Speaker 1: time this morning and for having a chat to us.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Fay was an incredible woman.
- 0:30Speaker 1: She joined us a couple of times on the week
- 0:32Speaker 1: that was on this show and used to join me
- 0:35Speaker 1: to go beyond the bear of the line when we'd.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Catch up with her.
- 0:37Speaker 1: As the mayor, she well and truly stood up for
- 0:42Speaker 1: territorians and really for what the territory was all about.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Yes, I agree with that, especially in her role with tourism.
- 0:52Speaker 3: She was very much territory orientated there, but also as
- 0:56Speaker 3: mayor of Catherine, she was very much all about Catherine.
- 1:01Speaker 3: She loved the.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Town, she truly did.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And like I said, and I know that you and
- 1:09Speaker 1: your wife Vicky very good friends of FaZe. She'll be
- 1:13Speaker 1: remembered so fondly by so many.
- 1:17Speaker 3: That is true. Vicky met Faye back in nineteen eighty
- 1:23Speaker 3: nine when they first when Faye come to Catherine as
- 1:27Speaker 3: the wife of the A and Z bank manager, and
- 1:30Speaker 3: they were two young ladies resumes in hand, wandering the
- 1:35Speaker 3: streets looking to see who wanted to employ them.
- 1:39Speaker 1: How lovely and where did they end up working?
- 1:43Speaker 2: What happened from that point, Henry.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Well not quite sure. Faye got mixed up in the
- 1:49Speaker 3: tourism side of it and that just sort of snowballed
- 1:52Speaker 3: on from that. Vicky ended up at the raft base
- 1:55Speaker 3: managing the services canteen for the defense calls out there.
- 2:01Speaker 3: But no from that day on, they remain very good friends,
- 2:07Speaker 3: and Faye introduced Vicky to one of her passions, which
- 2:13Speaker 3: was the Ladies Never Never Club, which is a beefsteak
- 2:17Speaker 3: and burgundy club for fine wines and food appreciations. I
- 2:23Speaker 3: have to thank Fae for that she introduced Vicky to that.
- 2:27Speaker 1: How beautiful. It sounds like the kind of club I
- 2:29Speaker 1: would have loved being part of. I think plenty of
- 2:31Speaker 1: people would have.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Look, they're a renowned club. They never never Ladies in
- 2:37Speaker 3: Cataine are just awesome than the way they have to
- 2:40Speaker 3: survive because as you can imagine, there's not a huge
- 2:43Speaker 3: range of restaurants there, so they make some of their
- 2:46Speaker 3: own dinner parties. And then Faye did some wonderful dinner
- 2:49Speaker 3: parties at her place alone that had the Bali influence
- 2:54Speaker 3: two of them. So yeah, that's just the type of
- 2:58Speaker 3: lady she was.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Now we know that the state funeral for Fay is
- 3:03Speaker 1: happening tomorrow, Henry, how will she be honored?
- 3:09Speaker 3: Oh? Very highly, I would think. I honestly think protocol
- 3:15Speaker 3: have underestimated here. If I know Catherine, people, they are
- 3:20Speaker 3: going to turn out in their hundreds for this funeral,
- 3:24Speaker 3: and I think they might find themselves overwhelmed there at
- 3:29Speaker 3: the cathedral.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I reckon, you're right.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I think there's going to be a massive turnout for
- 3:35Speaker 1: a beautiful woman who is incredibly loved by the community.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Tell me, Henry, how.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Are her family going at the moment and how will
- 3:44Speaker 1: they and you know, such dear friends like you guys
- 3:48Speaker 1: be remembering Faye.
- 3:54Speaker 3: The family themselves, as you can imagine, I feel a
- 3:57Speaker 3: great loss, but their soldiering up well because Fay being faced,
- 4:02Speaker 3: she made sure everything was organized, that everybody was in
- 4:06Speaker 3: the doing the right thing at the right time. So yes,
- 4:09Speaker 3: the family's holding up. Well, we'll honor Fay in our memory,
- 4:15Speaker 3: but we'll also honor her back in Catherine. For we'll
- 4:21Speaker 3: say it a celebration and farewell, not a memorial, on
- 4:26Speaker 3: the following Friday. So then you'll think, I think you'll
- 4:32Speaker 3: find some very heartfelt emotions and stories will start to appear.
- 4:41Speaker 3: I mean, Fay was one of those ladies. I mean
- 4:45Speaker 3: there's all these boards and that that everybody knows that
- 4:49Speaker 3: she sat on and all that. But what I don't
- 4:51Speaker 3: think a lot of people realize is all the little things,
- 4:54Speaker 3: especially down in Catherine, that went on. She used to
- 4:57Speaker 3: run a pink breakfast for the cancer clas. She always
- 5:02Speaker 3: attended all the gatherings like the museum fundraisers and that,
- 5:07Speaker 3: the junk festivals, she did, the Catherine Arts, which used
- 5:12Speaker 3: to be the Lambert Trust, and then then there was
- 5:20Speaker 3: always Goes. Your fallback was the never Never ladies. They
- 5:24Speaker 3: had just arrange a dinner once a month and after
- 5:27Speaker 3: they go. But I do know one thing I'm going
- 5:33Speaker 3: to have to put in here. When you're voting for
- 5:36Speaker 3: the Tina Turner song, they would want Nutbush. After the
- 5:43Speaker 3: formal arrangements for the Debutan one balls were complete, and
- 5:47Speaker 3: all the lovely ladies and gentlemen had finished doing all
- 5:50Speaker 3: the classical dancing and all that new vague stuff. The first,
- 5:56Speaker 3: their first song that they would be looking for after
- 5:59Speaker 3: all the four all stuff was the Nutbush because that
- 6:02Speaker 3: got everybody up on the floor, the mom's, the dad,
- 6:05Speaker 3: the family and make it all yahoo together to celebrate
- 6:09Speaker 3: the end of the Debutante ball.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Oh, how wonderful.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Well, Henry, thank you so much for having a chat
- 6:17Speaker 1: with us this morning and helping all of the Northern
- 6:19Speaker 1: Territory to really honor Fay in the way that she deserves.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Like I say, I loved.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Having her on the show, and I remember when we
- 6:28Speaker 1: decided to do the week that was one week from
- 6:31Speaker 1: the Catherine Show, the first person that was on our
- 6:34Speaker 1: list that we wanted to have on that panel was
- 6:36Speaker 1: Fay Miller. She was an incredible woman, and I know
- 6:40Speaker 1: that she is going to be dearly missed, but I'm
- 6:43Speaker 1: sure that that farewell tomorrow is going to be an
- 6:45Speaker 1: absolute cracker. So in her honor and certainly in Tina
- 6:50Speaker 1: Turner's honor, let's hear a.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Bit of Nutbush. Thank you, Henry for your time this
- 6:54Speaker 2: morning
- 6:56Speaker 3: Thank you, and well done on the Nutbush Thanks Fights,
