- 0:01Speaker 1: What's a podcast good question It's a thing where we
- 0:27Speaker 1: threaten people with movies that they're going to not want
- 0:30Speaker 1: us to watch one way or the other.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Oh.
- 0:32Speaker 1: So we have a special child on the episode we're
- 0:37Speaker 1: about to talk about. So I thought I was trying
- 0:39Speaker 1: to come up with something. I hadn't seen anything recently,
- 0:42Speaker 1: so I was just trying to find something that sort
- 0:44Speaker 1: of had a kid. Don't know if this is a
- 0:46Speaker 1: good thread or not, but I came up with the
- 0:50Speaker 1: daisy chain.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 0:54Speaker 1: A grieving couple moved to a remote Irish village in
- 0:57Speaker 1: the wake of their baby daughter's death. They soon take
- 1:01Speaker 1: in an orphan autistic girl only to become involved in
- 1:04Speaker 1: a series of strange occurrences.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Well, yeah, if you take in an orphan child, no
- 1:09Speaker 2: matter what they are on the spectrum.
- 1:11Speaker 1: They're going to be strange occurrences. Stay away from kids
- 1:14Speaker 1: is the thing. That'll be your best option is stay
- 1:18Speaker 1: away from children.
- 1:20Speaker 3: How come it's always the autistic kids that are like supernatural?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Well, because we didn't know what to call them. I mean,
- 1:27Speaker 1: Damien was just on the spectrum, but we didn't know
- 1:31Speaker 1: it at the time.
- 1:32Speaker 3: That must be it. I'm going to write a thesis
- 1:35Speaker 3: about this.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Kids are evil, but now we have a different term
- 1:41Speaker 1: for it.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Like i know i know several.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Just kidding i'm related to a kid that deals with
- 1:49Speaker 3: a lot of that.
- 1:50Speaker 1: So i've witnessed it firsthand i watch it go on
- 1:53Speaker 1: and go man like i am fascinated by him like
- 1:56Speaker 1: he operates on just an entirely different level and like
- 2:00Speaker 1: watching him like his brain just processes shit totally differently
- 2:04Speaker 1: and it's like it's fascinating and It's weird for his
- 2:08Speaker 1: mom who has to just deal with everything differently than
- 2:11Speaker 1: every other parent in the world. And that's frustrating. She
- 2:15Speaker 1: deals with it like a champ. But I'm like, I
- 2:17Speaker 1: feel bad that I'm just like, I know other people
- 2:21Speaker 1: just have kids and don't care and go on about
- 2:23Speaker 1: their business. But there's a lot more going on when
- 2:25Speaker 1: you're dealing with a kid of that level that is
- 2:29Speaker 1: super spectrum oriented. So. So anyway, what.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Were you saying?
- 2:34Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I just want to say I'm not doing it.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I'm not blindly attacking random kids with problems.
- 2:39Speaker 2: No.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Not that it's a problem sometimes.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Sometimes it's a lot to deal with, let's just say.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Well, that's all kids.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Should we start this over?
- 2:47Speaker 2: No. Probably. I'll go get a shovel. We can bury
- 2:52Speaker 2: the show right now.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Our biggest group of listeners are artistic children. Artistic. Extra artistic.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I know a person. Kids with crayons are my favorite.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I know a person whose child is on the spectrum
- 3:04Speaker 2: and I haven't met the child, but she tells me
- 3:06Speaker 2: about the child and I'm like, that's everything I do daily. Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I've suspected myself for a while. Yeah, I'm pretty sure.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I'm not trying to make a joke or belittle autism
- 3:17Speaker 2: at all, but I have suspected myself and the more
- 3:21Speaker 2: evidence I get of what an autistic person does, the
- 3:24Speaker 2: more I'm.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Like, Oh. When I think about how my childhood was
- 3:29Speaker 1: and I'm like, ah, see if it was now, there
- 3:32Speaker 1: would be tests done.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I did not have a normal childhood. So, yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I would, yeah, I think I'd be somewhere in that mix. So,
- 3:41Speaker 1: me too.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I get it.
- 3:43Speaker 2: We're special.
- 3:44Speaker 1: We're all special is what I'm saying.
- 3:48Speaker 3: I'd watch that movie.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Which one? Me murdering people as a child? No.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Daisy chain oh okay i forgot.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You could make us watch daisy chain if you want
- 4:01Speaker 1: i don't know i watched the trailer i'm not thrilled
- 4:04Speaker 1: but you know hey you can probably come up with
- 4:07Speaker 1: a better option if you just you know sign up
- 4:10Speaker 1: for the horror club you can give us a better
- 4:12Speaker 1: movie to watch and we don't have to watch daisy
- 4:14Speaker 1: chain and i'll still make weird comments about children.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Or like i always say make us watch a worse.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Movie There's definitely worse.
- 4:21Speaker 2: We have nothing going on in our lives that's going
- 4:23Speaker 2: to prevent us from watching terrible movies.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Sadly, that's very true.
- 4:26Speaker 2: And then talking about them ad nauseum.
- 4:28Speaker 3: We have no standards.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's probably better. Obviously not.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I got stuff going on.
- 4:36Speaker 1: She does have a life. I, on the other hand.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I got no standards when it comes to what I watch.
- 4:40Speaker 2: That's true.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Obviously, once again, you're on this show.
- 4:44Speaker 3: This is what we do. It's true.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And that's why we say ridiculous things like this.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I did not enjoy it. I know a lot of
- 4:54Speaker 2: people are going to be very upset with me for
- 4:56Speaker 2: saying that.
- 4:57Speaker 3: A little bit, yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 2: And I think it's of all the.
- 5:01Speaker 3: So there's the little baby doll puppet with no eyes.
- 5:05Speaker 3: And so he just sneaks into his room at night
- 5:08Speaker 3: and just terrorizes all the poor residents.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You think he can be a solid, serious actor, which
- 5:15Speaker 1: he can.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I've seen that one movie he made with RoboCop.
- 5:18Speaker 1: But also, yeah, it's just like when you want to
- 5:20Speaker 1: see somebody chew on some scenery, he is good at it.
- 5:23Speaker 2: What was that movie he made with RoboCop?
- 5:26Speaker 3: And I thought it would be kind of campy, you know,
- 5:29Speaker 3: like weird little baby doll. It was really sad and intense.
- 5:34Speaker 3: It was really good, but I would not watch it again.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I watched an absolute... trash fire of a movie called
- 5:46Speaker 2: i don't know if there's anything less than no budget
- 5:50Speaker 2: but it's a movie it's oh god where do i
- 5:54Speaker 2: start there's no i mean there's nothing.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Like i just want to talk about this it's okay
- 6:00Speaker 1: there's some specifics going on in the filmmaking that is
- 6:04Speaker 1: equally as interesting in what's going on in the plot
- 6:07Speaker 1: like it definitely and it calls itself a thriller But
- 6:10Speaker 1: it plays on horror tropes so much that I'm like,
- 6:13Speaker 1: this is kind of horror.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Solid, solid poster.
- 6:18Speaker 1: So for normal people, you're like, you know, you don't
- 6:20Speaker 1: need to watch the movie.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Here's the poster.
- 6:22Speaker 2: That's enough for you. But on that note, there are
- 6:30Speaker 2: a lot of questions that I have. That there are
- 6:34Speaker 2: no answers to.
- 6:35Speaker 1: That should be the tagline for this movie. Because the
- 6:38Speaker 1: more I dug into it, the more I was like, but... I.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Could find very little information on it. Now, granted, I
- 6:44Speaker 2: didn't look very hard.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I found a lot of information about it, and it
- 6:48Speaker 1: didn't make it any easier to process. In fact, it's
- 6:52Speaker 1: more frustrating the more you find out about it.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And then the main kid, who's the quote-unquote star of
- 7:00Speaker 2: the movie, just inexplicably... disappears for 20 minutes.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Those things happen i don't understand my only thought was
- 7:10Speaker 4: he was just not available for those days of shooting and.
- 7:14Speaker 2: It was this when they they made this statement about
- 7:17Speaker 2: him i was like well that's What I.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Want to be doing He wasn't running around the neighborhood
- 7:21Speaker 4: He was swinging on a swing or something Wearing only
- 7:25Speaker 4: a Superman cape Playing Tarzan And I'm like well we've
- 7:28Speaker 4: all had those moments Dad come on this is so
- 7:30Speaker 4: dad trying to make a kid reference I'm.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Like those are two different things Dad you can't be
- 7:35Speaker 1: playing Tarzan In a Superman cape get it together Well
- 7:38Speaker 1: I would.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Like to watch that Tarzan movie Where he's actually Superman.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And naked I think there's a channel for you But
- 7:45Speaker 1: it's on the internet We're two thirds of the way
- 7:47Speaker 1: there why not.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Let me just say that I walked into this movie
- 7:53Speaker 2: with very high hopes. And man, it did not disappoint.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Well, I was going to say.
- 7:59Speaker 2: But not in the way I was expecting it to.
- 8:02Speaker 1: You can't say it's not impressive on a level. Not
- 8:06Speaker 1: the level most people are looking for.
- 8:10Speaker 2: He calls his very creepy buddy and says, Hey, I've
- 8:14Speaker 2: got someone new for you to come play with. Bring drugs.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I'm going to go pick up two whores for us.
- 8:20Speaker 3: What on earth?
- 8:21Speaker 2: That is verbatim what he says.
- 8:22Speaker 3: On the Lord's Day?
- 8:25Speaker 1: Which also the fact that he's 12 and has a
- 8:28Speaker 1: teddy bear is a little weird, really. I mean, I'm
- 8:32Speaker 1: watching and I'm like, this is ridiculous. And I leaned
- 8:35Speaker 1: over to my stuffed baby Yoda and I was like,
- 8:37Speaker 1: are you seeing what I'm seeing? This kid's like 12.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Get it together, man. Who's talking to a teddy bear?
- 8:44Speaker 3: And then the movie as a whole just kind of
- 8:47Speaker 3: made you feel bad. So that was a fun one.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Yay.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I love the movie. Well, that's the thing.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I love it for what it is. And then eventually
- 8:58Speaker 1: I was like, okay, that's why none of this makes
- 9:00Speaker 1: any damn sense.
- 9:01Speaker 5: I can't wait for enough time to go by that
- 9:03Speaker 5: I forget 90% of it. That's what happened. Because I
- 9:07Speaker 5: got into it and I was like, I know I
- 9:08Speaker 5: watched this before. And then I got like part of
- 9:10Speaker 5: the way in, I was like, Oh, shit. Like, I
- 9:13Speaker 5: forgot so much of the insanity.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just, it's hitting.
- 9:19Speaker 2: By insanity, I feel like you mean sheer brilliance.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Yes, but also it's like doing several different things at
- 9:26Speaker 1: the same time, and they don't click. They don't cooperate
- 9:30Speaker 1: with each other. And I'm like, so what are we
- 9:32Speaker 1: taking from this movie?
- 9:33Speaker 2: I feel like they forgot about a lot of things
- 9:35Speaker 2: after they... They shot it.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Or they didn't... I feel like most movies you decide, okay,
- 9:41Speaker 1: this is the plane we're on. These are the rules
- 9:43Speaker 1: we're going to abide by. And it has three different planes.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And they're all going, they're playing three-dimensional chess at any
- 9:49Speaker 1: given moment between these different things happening at the same time.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And I'm like, and none of these make any sense,
- 9:55Speaker 1: by the way. So that is how he got this movie.
- 9:59Speaker 1: so he was there he had a pulse someone answered
- 10:02Speaker 1: a phone he got a movie so but i think
- 10:08Speaker 1: you can take that into account he's got credits for
- 10:10Speaker 1: all different other things he's been involved in film for
- 10:13Speaker 1: years and But he only directed one other movie and
- 10:16Speaker 1: it fell apart. And he also got fired from this
- 10:18Speaker 1: one at one point, by the way. I heard that later, too.
- 10:21Speaker 1: So two movies got fired from both of them. This one,
- 10:25Speaker 1: they got desperate and had him come back. Yikes. So
- 10:29Speaker 1: how bad off were they to make sense of this craziness?
- 10:34Speaker 3: Also unrelated, but another neighborhood person when they told, what's
- 10:38Speaker 3: the name of the weird kid?
- 10:39Speaker 5: Jamie.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Jamie. Jamie.
- 10:40Speaker 3: To go back to where you came from?
- 10:42Speaker 2: Go back to where you came from, funny person.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Funny person.
- 10:46Speaker 4: That is my new taunt. I cannot wait for an
- 10:50Speaker 4: opportunity to use that. Somebody piss me off soon.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Because there was a certain point in the movie where
- 10:58Speaker 2: I said out loud, is this scene supposed to be funny?
- 11:02Speaker 2: And my girlfriend was like, I don't think so. And
- 11:04Speaker 2: I said, yeah, but. The background music is scored like
- 11:09Speaker 2: what you would put in a comedy, but then two
- 11:11Speaker 2: bars into it, it changes into scary music and then
- 11:15Speaker 2: back to funny music. And I just don't know what
- 11:17Speaker 2: to think.
- 11:17Speaker 3: It was jaunty.
- 11:19Speaker 1: It was like a kid's movie from this time. It
- 11:23Speaker 1: was like one of the live action Disney movies of
- 11:26Speaker 1: this era that we're watching a dog go on an
- 11:28Speaker 1: adventure with another dog and then they meet a cat
- 11:30Speaker 1: and they go rob a bank or whatever happens.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Can I watch that movie? I kind of want to
- 11:33Speaker 2: watch that movie.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Right now and I just made it up.
- 11:37Speaker 3: So I read that in... Which they mentioned a skinny
- 11:39Speaker 3: dipping scene and I'm like, I don't even remember a
- 11:41Speaker 3: skinny dipping scene.
- 11:42Speaker 1: It's at the end.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Okay. That the girl was the daughter of the director
- 11:48Speaker 3: because she really wanted a role in this movie and
- 11:50Speaker 3: he was like, okay, you can do the one where
- 11:52Speaker 3: you're naked. And then... She, for the shot, got fully
- 11:56Speaker 3: naked and then he was like, wait, put your pants
- 11:58Speaker 3: back on. Let's just do this topless. But she stood
- 12:02Speaker 3: there and argued with her dad, the director, while fully
- 12:05Speaker 3: nude about how she wanted to be fully nude and
- 12:08Speaker 3: not put her pants back on.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I don't, I don't know. Everything about that story makes
- 12:16Speaker 2: me upset. I know. And I don't know. Normally, but
- 12:21Speaker 2: there's things that I'm like, oh, I get why I'm
- 12:22Speaker 2: mad at that. And then there's other things that like, well,
- 12:24Speaker 2: that cancels that out. But now I'm mad at this.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know what to think. Why did your
- 12:29Speaker 1: mom make you get naked? I don't understand.
- 12:33Speaker 3: And then off screen, the director is like, you get naked.
- 12:36Speaker 1: No, put your pants on. I don't want to see that.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I'm okay with this. But not that.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Mom, is that cool? Yeah.
- 12:43Speaker 1: They're a very complicated family. I'm just saying. So, all
- 12:48Speaker 1: that said, go to MovieMeltdown.com, join the Meltdown Horror Club,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and give us something to watch where we don't have
- 12:55Speaker 1: to talk about that kind of weird, awkward stuff.
- 12:57Speaker 2: How much of that is going in the show?
- 13:01Speaker 3: Most of it.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Okay.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I mean, we need something to talk about.
- 13:03Speaker 2: You did most of the talking, so I'm not worried
- 13:05Speaker 2: about it.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Again, if anybody gave a rat's ass what I say...
- 13:08Speaker 1: It would factor into my life. Nobody, nobody does.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Leave us a comment so we can have feedback corner.
- 13:15Speaker 2: That too.
- 13:16Speaker 3: We'll read all of your angry comments on there.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I knew that there was a reason for me to
- 13:21Speaker 2: practice the phrase, Brian who?
- 13:24Speaker 1: So. Not the first time you've used it either.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Not yet. I've been waiting. I've been waiting. And our
- 13:29Speaker 2: movie this week gave me a new phrase. I can't wait.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Oh boy. See, this is why you want to sign up.
- 13:34Speaker 1: You can hear us have these wonderful discussions. So.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Go get on it.
