- 0:19Empire took a monumental step forward by enacting
- 0:23the Slavery Abolition Act. which liberated over
- 0:26800 ,000 enslaved individuals across its colonies.
- 0:31This landmark legislation was the culmination
- 0:34of tireless efforts by abolitionists, including
- 0:37the dedicated William Wilberforce, and marked
- 0:40a significant victory in the global fight for
- 0:43human rights. The Act's implementation on August
- 0:461, 1834, set a powerful precedent inspiring other
- 0:51nations to confront and abolish the inhumane
- 0:54practice of slavery. So now you know. And now,
- 0:59it's time for the weather report. This morning,
- 1:05rain showers are likely, and it feels like 63
- 1:09degrees with 12 mile per hour wind. The sunset

- 2:57to tell them. Sunny Morning sent you. In local
- 3:02news, the waste collection strike by Republic
- 3:06Services continues with no resolution in sight
- 3:09as it enters its second month. Workers from the
- 3:13Teamsters' Local 25 union are demanding improved
- 3:16pay and benefits. Despite federal mediation and
- 3:21appeals from elected officials, both sides remain
- 3:24at an impasse. Communities served by Republic
- 3:28are facing mounting trash and recycling, leading
- 3:31Boston to impose fines on the company. Republic
- 3:35claims the union is blocking trucks, while the
- 3:37union insists these are bogus claims. Teamster's
- 3:41local 25 president, Tom Mary, emphasized the
- 3:45unity among workers and urged Republic to negotiate
- 3:48in good faith. Now on to sports. What a wild
- 3:58trade deadline it was. We often wonder if anything
- 4:02significant will happen, and then we are shocked
- 4:05by trades like Carlos Correa returning to the
- 4:08Astros. and the San Diego Padres acquiring Mason
- 4:12Miller and J .P. Sears. Once the dust settled,
- 4:16we began speculating on the big winners. The
- 4:20Seattle Mariners looked strong with Eugenio Suarez,
- 4:23while the Philadelphia Phillies bolstered their
- 4:26bullpen with Joan Duran. The Mets addressed key
- 4:29needs by acquiring Cedric Mullins, and the Oakland
- 4:33Athletics made a splash with Liu DeVries. This
- 4:37year's deadline certainly kept us on our toes.
- 4:40In local sports. Tonight, the Red Sox host the
- 4:45Houston Astros for Game 1 of a three -game series
- 4:49at Fenway Park. The Sox pitcher is to be determined,
- 4:53while Hunter Brown, with a 9 -5 record and a
- 4:562 .54 earned run average, takes the mound for
- 5:00the Astros. Expect clear skies and a mild 66
- 5:04degrees for a first pitch at 710. In top news,
- 5:11a new study from researchers at the University
- 5:14of California, San Diego offers promising insights
- 5:18into early detection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma,
- 5:22the most common and aggressive form of pancreatic
- 5:26cancer. This research identifies a link between
- 5:29inflammation, cellular stress, and a protein
- 5:32known as CysteAT3. This protein activates critical
- 5:37genes, including integrin beta -3, which promotes
- 5:41tumor formation. The study introduces a gene
- 5:45signature called StressUp, which could help in
- 5:48early screening and treatment strategies. The
- 5:52hope is to develop therapies that prevent cancer
- 5:54progression across various types. In business
- 5:59news, Wall Street was stunned as MicroStrategy
- 6:03stock reached an unprecedented high of $410 on
- 6:08July 31st, closing at 401. This remarkable rally
- 6:14marks a staggering increase of over 3 ,700 %
- 6:18since its debut in 1998. The search follows the
- 6:23company's extraordinary second quarter earnings
- 6:26report. which revealed earnings of $32 per share,
- 6:30exceeding expectations by an impressive 35 ,000%.
- 6:35Additionally, revenues reached just over $114
- 6:39million, exceeding last year's figures. Investors
- 6:44are clearly rewarding the company's bold focus
- 6:48on Bitcoin and digital assets. In crypto movement,
- 6:53Bitcoin is down 3 % for the week. to about $116
- 6:58,000. Ethereum is down 5 % to just under $3 ,700.
- 7:05And XRP is down 9 % to $2 .95. Moving on to a

- 7:53to tell them. Sunny morning sent you by. And
- 7:57now, back to the show. Let's talk science. Scientists
- 8:02have traced the origins of the beloved potato
- 8:05to a fascinating plant romance millions of years
- 8:08ago. A recent study published in the journal
- 8:12Cell reveals that 8 to 9 million years ago, a
- 8:16crossbreeding event between an ancient tomato
- 8:18relative and another plant led to the first potato.
- 8:22This genetic combination resulted in the thick,
- 8:25starchy tuber we enjoy today. With potatoes being
- 8:30the world's third most important staple crop,
- 8:33researchers aim to develop a new hybrid that
- 8:36can grow from seeds, helping to eliminate harmful
- 8:39mutations and avoid disease risks, reminiscent
- 8:42of the tragic Irish potato famine. And in entertainment
- 8:49news... A lot of music fans are upset with Spotify,
- 8:53following recent controversies surrounding its
- 8:56CEO, Daniel Ek. His decision to invest in an
- 9:00artificial intelligence -powered military technology
- 9:03firm has raised eyebrows. Ex -venture capital
- 9:07firm Prima Materia has invested significantly
- 9:11in the German startup Helsing, which develops
- 9:14software for military decision -making and manufactures
- 9:18drones. In protest, the Australian rock band
- 9:22King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard has removed
- 9:25their music from the platform. They announced
- 9:28on Instagram that they are releasing new demos
- 9:31out everywhere except Spotify, urging fans to
- 9:35consider alternative platforms. Other bands like
- 9:40Deerhoof and Shuik Tzu have joined the protest.
- 9:45Well, alrighty folks, it's time for the quote
- 9:48of the day. And today, our quote comes from the
- 9:52American civil rights activist and author, Audra
- 9:55Lorde. And she said, It is not our differences
- 10:00that divide us. It is our inability to recognize,
- 10:04accept, and celebrate those differences. And
- 10:09that's a wrap for this morning. You can check
- 10:12out our Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok for some
- 10:15captivating aerial videos with local news and
- 10:18the weather reports. Have an amazing weekend,
- 10:22my good friends. We'll see you Monday with another
- 10:25episode of Sunny Mornings in Boston.
