- 0:07Speaker 1: It's Me Podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:15Speaker 1: new Art, and today we're joined by Stephen Ranella, Giannis Boutellis,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Brody Henderson, Randall Williams, Max Barta Chester, Floyd Steve's dentist,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Kevin Pearson, and Anna Borgman. Anna is a culinary contributor
- 0:28Speaker 1: to the meadeater dot com and has butchered more critters
- 0:31Speaker 1: than everyone in this room combined. Anna, how do you
- 0:35Speaker 1: feel about playing Meat Eater Trivia?
- 0:38Speaker 2: I feel okay. I realized the other day because I
- 0:40Speaker 2: listened to this, you know, most weeks, but I've never
- 0:42Speaker 2: actually kept score.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I just know, you know, okay, does it?
- 0:46Speaker 3: I feel like you're doing good.
- 0:49Speaker 2: It depends on like phishing questions, I just I don't
- 0:52Speaker 2: have a clue. I couldn't know less about it, But
- 0:55Speaker 2: everything else I usually feel.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah, folks, what you do for your day job and
- 1:01Speaker 1: why you are one of our favorite culinary and butchering
- 1:05Speaker 1: contributors on the website.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I'm a butcher. I mostly do slaughter, so I worked
- 1:10Speaker 2: for two years on a slaughter floor and now I
- 1:13Speaker 2: just do on farm slaughter can do the slaughtering I do.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And do you have like the nail gun or what
- 1:19Speaker 1: do you what do you use captive bolt?
- 1:21Speaker 2: Captive bolt? Yeah, sure, yeah, we use it.
- 1:24Speaker 1: It's a the no country for old men.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Literally, So it's like that it's not air powered, it's
- 1:33Speaker 2: we just use a blank basically, it's a twenty five.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Folks, I'd say that sometimes the air power are called
- 1:38Speaker 3: a pneumatic.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Bolt, right, yeah, no, we have we have blank.
- 1:41Speaker 3: It's gun. It's twenty two powered twenty five.
- 1:45Speaker 2: So we do that on because at the shop that
- 1:48Speaker 2: I was at, it's stay inspected. So that's technically the
- 1:52Speaker 2: stun method. They say it doesn't kill them, but it
- 1:54Speaker 2: definitely does. It shoots like a five inch fraud into
- 1:57Speaker 2: their head. So you stun them and then you lead
- 2:00Speaker 2: them out and the bleeding now is what kills them,
- 2:03Speaker 2: like officially, and that's like I just killed four hundred
- 2:07Speaker 2: chickens a couple of mondays ago, and it's the same
- 2:12Speaker 2: just blastic.
- 2:14Speaker 4: With that.
- 2:14Speaker 2: We used a knife that has like an electric current
- 2:17Speaker 2: going through it, so you stun it and then after
- 2:20Speaker 2: it's stunned, then you cut its throat.
- 2:21Speaker 5: So yeah, do they run around with their head cut off.
- 2:24Speaker 2: No, they'reside down a little cone, fortunately, but I have
- 2:27Speaker 2: a pretty good I got a good scar from it.
- 2:29Speaker 2: One of them kicked me pretty.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Is that ever weigh on? You're conscious just killing four
- 2:32Speaker 1: hundred chickens in a day.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You know, I've spent a lot of time thinking about it,
- 2:37Speaker 2: and it's like, oh, man, I think about I have
- 2:39Speaker 2: so many books on death, Like I'm kind of obsessed
- 2:42Speaker 2: with the topic.
- 2:44Speaker 4: I know a guy you might get along with.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I literally I think about it all the time. And
- 2:52Speaker 2: uh no, the chickens, I guess. With livestock slaughter, I don't.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I don't worry about it too much because like, if
- 2:59Speaker 2: I don't do it, someone else is going to do it.
- 3:01Speaker 2: That's why those animals were raised. And so I don't
- 3:04Speaker 2: feel like I'm doing something that wouldn't happen otherwise. And
- 3:07Speaker 2: I know I do a good job. So I there
- 3:09Speaker 2: you go.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah, killed more and butchered more than everyone in this
- 3:13Speaker 1: room combined, probably in the last week.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, last two weeks for sure.
- 3:19Speaker 1: If you're not familiar, this is a ten round quiz
- 3:21Speaker 1: show with questions from Meat Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and cooking, and there's a prize. Meat Eater will donate
- 3:27Speaker 1: five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winners
- 3:30Speaker 1: choosing for the stat of the week. This week, we're
- 3:32Speaker 1: looking at the win percentage for players who have been
- 3:35Speaker 1: on five or more episodes at the top of the
- 3:38Speaker 1: leader board. Do you want to take a guess again,
- 3:42Speaker 1: win percentage? Who do you think is the best five?
- 3:45Speaker 3: It's not going to be me. I'll tell you.
- 3:47Speaker 1: That Randall is not it. Brody, Brody is right, Brody
- 3:52Speaker 1: has one one.
- 3:54Speaker 5: I would have guessed Steve because he's been playing. He's
- 3:56Speaker 5: back in it now, but he's not playing.
- 3:58Speaker 4: For a while.
- 3:59Speaker 5: Brodie, he's say a percentage, I know, so you're I
- 4:02Speaker 5: would have thought your percentage would have been good.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Me too. Brody's won forty one percent of games he's played.
- 4:07Speaker 1: That's followed by Steve at thirty eight percent, Clay at
- 4:10Speaker 1: thirty three percent, Randall at thirty two percent, and for.
- 4:14Speaker 3: All the show, it's like, not that great of a percentage.
- 4:17Speaker 6: No, no, it's declined precipitously.
- 4:20Speaker 1: How many games has Clay played though, I think it
- 4:23Speaker 1: was like seven or something like that, but.
- 4:25Speaker 3: He probably got a bone. He probably caught a bone
- 4:27Speaker 3: off one, so he's won like two games.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So Randall at thirty two percent and then Giannis at
- 4:33Speaker 1: twenty percent. Tyler Jones has won fifty percent of his
- 4:36Speaker 1: games and Tony Peterson has won twenty five percent of
- 4:38Speaker 1: his games, but they've both only played four times each.
- 4:42Speaker 7: Good stop right there.
- 4:45Speaker 5: I want to know, mind, your percentage just went up
- 4:47Speaker 5: a little though, Y're honest.
- 4:49Speaker 4: That's right, thank you.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Here's our zero percent of question the week, which test
- 4:52Speaker 1: how much knowledge players have retained from previous shows. This
- 4:55Speaker 1: question was from episode four to sixty nine. The topic
- 4:58Speaker 1: was cooking, and nobody got it right. I'd also declare
- 5:01Speaker 1: this the hardest question ever asked in the history of
- 5:04Speaker 1: meat Eater trivia. It was asked by Yanni when butchering
- 5:08Speaker 1: an animal, what is the process of removing the trachea
- 5:11Speaker 1: and esophagus called? Before Anna or Yanni answers, I've got
- 5:16Speaker 1: it because I was on that episode and you remembering
- 5:22Speaker 1: look at is good?
- 5:24Speaker 4: After that question.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I never even heard that word. I didn't know that was.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I tried to Google it and Google was like, you're
- 5:29Speaker 1: not even close to whatever we think you're trying to
- 5:31Speaker 1: find and it just like wasn't spinning out many results.
- 5:35Speaker 1: How do you how do you spell this? Anna?
- 5:36Speaker 2: It's W E, A, S, A and D no wonder.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I wasn't. I was way off. I had an ancient
- 5:43Speaker 1: I went and it had had the death. That's that's
- 5:46Speaker 1: why I.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Was great, because I know the word, the Scottish word
- 5:51Speaker 3: for when you remove everything from the diaphragm down.
- 5:54Speaker 1: What's that word? It's like glat glad that that would
- 5:59Speaker 1: never be on an episode, Yani, that's way too hard.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Yeah, no idea, there's a word for that.
- 6:04Speaker 5: I'm hoping to do a little weazoning this weekend.
- 6:08Speaker 2: That the diaphragm down thing is how we got them
- 6:13Speaker 2: usually like pull everything out from the diaphragm and then
- 6:15Speaker 2: cut into the diaphragm, reach down, pull everything back after that.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yanni got that question from watching You Butcher a Sheep.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I believe we were talking about talking about.
- 6:25Speaker 1: The incorrect answers from that show where tracheotomy, plumb, road housing, necotomy, dethroating,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and throat bottomy, road house.
- 6:39Speaker 2: We're just gonna call it roadhousing.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I think that maybe Hansi's answer road housing. We have
- 6:46Speaker 1: some house teming to get to in a previous game,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I think we have it now. I think in a
- 6:52Speaker 1: previous game of trivia, we talked about Canadian Thanksgiving, which
- 6:56Speaker 1: prompted some questions from players in the room about how
- 6:59Speaker 1: our friends north of the border celebrate. Well, about a
- 7:02Speaker 1: dozen listeners from Canada rode in to educate us. Similar
- 7:05Speaker 1: to America, the holiday is supposed to be celebrating, is
- 7:08Speaker 1: supposed to be a celebration of being thankful for all
- 7:12Speaker 1: the blessings of the previous year. The most popular food
- 7:15Speaker 1: served on Canadian Thanksgiving our turkey, ham stuffing, mashed potato,
- 7:20Speaker 1: sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and apple pie. And just like Americans,
- 7:23Speaker 1: they love their football. The Canadian Football League usually has
- 7:27Speaker 1: a nationally televised double header that afternoon called the Thanksgiving
- 7:31Speaker 1: Day Classic, and the most common decorations are very familiar,
- 7:35Speaker 1: with cornucopias and pumpkins lining the front porches that time
- 7:39Speaker 1: of year. Only about a half dozen other countries celebrate Thanksgiving,
- 7:43Speaker 1: like Germany, Liberia, Granada, and portions of the Netherlands and Australia.
- 7:48Speaker 3: I don't think it's like such as I thought. We've
- 7:53Speaker 3: been over this.
- 7:54Speaker 1: We have and I'm sorry my deepest, my apology, Steve,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I will fix that going forward. You'll never hear like
- 8:02Speaker 1: used incorrectly again. It will just be such.
- 8:04Speaker 3: As people like Brody right, like, I know what you're
- 8:07Speaker 3: talking about.
- 8:07Speaker 8: Spencer's at your first strike.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Today's gonna keep tracking the complaints for us. Now the
- 8:17Speaker 1: Shelby and Expert. Today's round is a four, so our
- 8:20Speaker 1: winner should get eight correct answers. And with that we're
- 8:23Speaker 1: onto the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look,
- 8:29Speaker 1: I need to know what I stand and win everything.
- 8:33Speaker 3: How's that just tend to win everything? Demon suckers?
- 8:44Speaker 1: Question one. The topic is fishing, and this will be
- 8:47Speaker 1: multiple choice. Which state is the largemouth bass not native to?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Is it Iowa? New York, California? Where Arkansas? Which state
- 9:01Speaker 1: is the large mouth bass not native to? It's native
- 9:05Speaker 1: to three of these, it's not native to one of them.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Your choices are Iowa, New York, California or Arkansas.
- 9:14Speaker 4: You boys are confident. Huh oh yeah you too.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Oh yeah, you guys used to flay large mouth and
- 9:21Speaker 5: eat them. Oh yeah yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 3: My neighbor down the beach, John Gary, I'm not gonna
- 9:25Speaker 3: tell you what state I grew up in. What uh,
- 9:32Speaker 3: you know everybody runs around calling it on the half shell.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Now, which is not you know, you don't know the thing.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Then No, he would cook bats. He would flay his bass,
- 9:42Speaker 3: leave the skin on him, soak them in milk and
- 9:44Speaker 3: grill them. But we would just add it to the
- 9:46Speaker 3: pile of everything else you caught. You know. Just it's
- 9:49Speaker 3: just like cubed up so bullhead, perch, large mouth. I mean,
- 9:54Speaker 3: just it's all the same.
- 9:56Speaker 5: They're not as good to eat a small mouth.
- 9:58Speaker 3: No, no, they're definitely not as good as to small
- 10:00Speaker 3: but it would you would throw it in and just
- 10:02Speaker 3: mix it in to the to the fish fry.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Right, which state is the large mouth outIn? Native to Iowa,
- 10:07Speaker 1: New York, California, Arkansas. Does everybody have an answer? Go
- 10:11Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Anna saying Iowa,
- 10:15Speaker 1: Randall saying California, Max saying Iowa, Kevin saying California. This
- 10:20Speaker 1: whole side of the table, Chester, Rodiiannis and Steve all
- 10:23Speaker 1: saying California. They got it. The correct answer is California.
- 10:28Speaker 3: I gotta remember that little move that they got it.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I told you fishing questions or not.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Largemouth bass are native to every state east of the
- 10:36Speaker 1: Rocky Mountains except for portions of New England. The furthest
- 10:39Speaker 1: west that native populations in America got were West Texas.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Despite this, the fish has now been observed in all
- 10:46Speaker 1: fifty states. Phil has a map there on the screen
- 10:49Speaker 1: that shows you the native and non native range South Bass.
- 10:54Speaker 1: The yellow the USGS did. The yellow is their native range.
- 10:58Speaker 1: The maroon is way they are found but not native.
- 11:02Speaker 1: What sticks out to you, Steve, when you look at that.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Map Virginia where they're native to not native?
- 11:10Speaker 1: That's the most noticeable thing.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Well, I'm surprised that they're not native in the northeast.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Sort of creep up there, but not.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Are you afraid to their ubiquity in Hawaii versus Alaska?
- 11:22Speaker 1: What's your question?
- 11:23Speaker 3: I don't know. Well, you ask me what sticks out
- 11:25Speaker 3: to me, I'm telling you.
- 11:25Speaker 1: What Maskie like. When you look at that map, you're like, oh,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm very surprised.
- 11:29Speaker 3: The hundredth meridian. The hundredth meridian is basically the divider.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Okay. Question two, the topic is conservation. This next great
- 11:38Speaker 1: question when you comes to is via Cara Wagner. I
- 11:40Speaker 1: was just asking you to look at the map and
- 11:42Speaker 1: make an observation like, oh, that's funny. The great planes
- 11:46Speaker 1: like barely get any.
- 11:49Speaker 3: If you look at the mule Deier range, Okay, plasters
- 11:53Speaker 3: right along the hundred plasters, right around that same meridian.
- 11:58Speaker 1: There you go, same as the law Arge Mouth pass.
- 12:01Speaker 3: There's a Canadian speaking of that. You know that Canadian
- 12:03Speaker 3: thing you had earlier, that little tidbit about Thanksgiving. Canada's
- 12:07Speaker 3: ram is tragically hip. They have a song. The hundredth
- 12:14Speaker 3: meridian is the.
- 12:19Speaker 6: Great plans begin.
- 12:21Speaker 1: It's good. One question two topics conservation. This next great
- 12:26Speaker 1: question comes with via Kara Wagner. This invasive bird, which
- 12:31Speaker 1: was introduced to North America by Shakespeare enthusiasts, is known
- 12:35Speaker 1: for its synchronized flight. Steve has it, Brody. Brody thinks
- 12:42Speaker 1: he's got it right. They're the only ones who seem confident.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Anna coming up with an answer. Here it is again.
- 12:47Speaker 1: This invasive bird, which was introduced to North America by
- 12:51Speaker 1: Shakespeare enthusiasts, is known for its synchronized flight.
- 12:56Speaker 5: I hated that Shakespeare class in college.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Yeah I don't like, but you know how many times
- 13:01Speaker 3: I had to take that I think I had to
- 13:02Speaker 3: take it in high school, college, and graduate school.
- 13:05Speaker 1: It was specifically on Shakespeare.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Oh you like they force that stuff down your throat.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Man, I feel like that went away at some point.
- 13:11Speaker 1: They must have.
- 13:12Speaker 3: I don't know. One of the things I want to
- 13:13Speaker 3: do when I retire. You know this, I want to
- 13:16Speaker 3: write a book, you know Shakespeare. When they're mad at
- 13:19Speaker 3: each other in Shakespeare, they will say knaves.
- 13:22Speaker 1: It's like an insult.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Now now it's an insult, a nave k a n
- 13:27Speaker 3: a V. I'm gonna write a book called Knaves in
- 13:32Speaker 3: defense of not loving the Bard. And it's gonna be
- 13:35Speaker 3: a book defending hating Shakespeare because you're meant to. They
- 13:40Speaker 3: try to make it feel bad for hating them, And
- 13:42Speaker 3: it's gonna be a book that like supports not liking
- 13:46Speaker 3: that stuff.
- 13:47Speaker 1: You think, yes, ma'am, there's.
- 13:50Speaker 2: An author that he writes about Shakespeare specifically. You should
- 13:54Speaker 2: have him on talking like you guys love them.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'll have mine when I do my book.
- 13:59Speaker 1: He's the quest. Actually, one more time. This invasive bird,
- 14:02Speaker 1: which was introduced to North America by Shakespeare enthusiasts, is
- 14:05Speaker 1: known for its synchronized flight.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I just like to joke that Shakespeare stole all his
- 14:09Speaker 3: stuff from Three's Company, because there's always like people are
- 14:14Speaker 3: over here in conversations, but they they get it wrong
- 14:18Speaker 3: and it wasn't being like a big deal, and that's
- 14:20Speaker 3: like Three's Company. That's a big part of Three's Company.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Man Steve was talking about how when he hosted Trivia
- 14:26Speaker 1: he avoided doing pop culture because it's uh favors the
- 14:30Speaker 1: old folks too much, and then someone pointed out, well, Steve,
- 14:33Speaker 1: that's just your pop culture spencer.
- 14:35Speaker 5: Could you name a couple stars of three threes Company
- 14:38Speaker 5: if you had to?
- 14:39Speaker 1: John Richard he's dead, the kids don knots. I wouldn't
- 14:44Speaker 1: have come up with that, but I know who that
- 14:47Speaker 1: I wouldn't. That's it, mister.
- 14:51Speaker 9: The only reason I.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Know John Richards because he what it was his show
- 14:54Speaker 1: eight Simple Rules, and he had a sitcom where he
- 14:57Speaker 1: was a classic TV dad. Does everybody have an answer? Yes,
- 15:02Speaker 1: n no idea the regal Beagle, go ahead and reveal
- 15:06Speaker 1: your answers. We have Anna saying European, Starling, Randall saying Starling,
- 15:10Speaker 1: Max saying Mockingbird, Kevin saying Starling Chess. You're saying Pigeon,
- 15:15Speaker 1: Brody and Jannis and Steve All saying starling that yester.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Pigeons were introduced on Saint Lawrence Seaway by the French.
- 15:23Speaker 1: The correct answer is starling heads up. In the late
- 15:27Speaker 1: nineteenth century, a New York City pharmacist came up with
- 15:31Speaker 1: the idea to introduce every bird that Shakespeare ever mentioned
- 15:35Speaker 1: in his writings. Of the sixty species that Shakespeare wrote about,
- 15:39Speaker 1: the man released about a half dozen of them. Starling's
- 15:42Speaker 1: were only talked about by Shakespeare once in Henry Act one,
- 15:46Speaker 1: but that single mention got the man to release sixty
- 15:49Speaker 1: starlings in Central Park. And there are one hundred and
- 15:52Speaker 1: fifty million starlings in North America today.
- 15:55Speaker 7: I should have known that because on my way home
- 15:57Speaker 7: from fishing and hunting with Cal this weekend, I saw
- 16:01Speaker 7: these big, old, you know, flocks of starlings doing their
- 16:06Speaker 7: dance synchronized flight.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Now, I recently read that there's only five species of
- 16:14Speaker 3: birds that they estimate number in a billion globally, of
- 16:19Speaker 3: which these are one. But then an ornithologist I told
- 16:22Speaker 3: that to seem to have a real problem with that.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I was trying to look up some numbers because I
- 16:27Speaker 1: was potentially going to word this differently about their like
- 16:29Speaker 1: the fourth most populous bird in North America. But you
- 16:32Speaker 1: find wildly different estimates well for bird populations. I think
- 16:36Speaker 1: starlink some said they were one hundred and fifty million,
- 16:38Speaker 1: others said they were four hundred million.
- 16:40Speaker 5: A lot of states. They're fair game open seas.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Now. The most abundant bird in the world, with the
- 16:46Speaker 3: widest home range of any bird in the world is
- 16:49Speaker 3: the English sparrow.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Those are fair game too, Oi.
- 16:52Speaker 3: You can eat them anytime you want.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Question my boy hunts.
- 16:55Speaker 3: He's been hunting a lot of starlings right now because
- 16:57Speaker 3: they're in the choke cherries and he fries them in oil.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Really well, no, it's usually him and his body. Zoo.
- 17:05Speaker 3: It's like not a big meal.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Question three, The topic is cooking. What roast is sometimes
- 17:12Speaker 1: referred to as the hidden tenderloin? What roast sometimes referred
- 17:20Speaker 1: to as the hidden tenderloin?
- 17:22Speaker 3: Is the tender loin not hidden? I feel like it's
- 17:23Speaker 3: kind of tucked away.
- 17:25Speaker 1: The answer is not tenderloin. Anna, This is a bone
- 17:30Speaker 1: I'm throwing to you, counting on you to get this correct.
- 17:33Speaker 1: What what roast is sometimes referred to as the hidden tenderloin?
- 17:42Speaker 2: I know it's probably cut it out before, but I don't.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Know, is stumped. We may have a zero percent or
- 17:50Speaker 1: here you looking it up.
- 17:53Speaker 7: I think we call these g steaks.
- 17:55Speaker 3: I don't know the name, you know itaks. I could
- 18:00Speaker 3: talk about it.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I don't know, but I think that's okay. Does anybody
- 18:08Speaker 1: feel okay about that?
- 18:08Speaker 3: You're what groast? What roast?
- 18:11Speaker 2: Not?
- 18:11Speaker 1: Whats what roast? What roast? Sometimes referred to as the hidden.
- 18:17Speaker 10: So this is a very wild game cooking question. I
- 18:21Speaker 10: feel like I don't I don't know, I don't think so,
- 18:24Speaker 10: you don't think so? It's the same pretty universal.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I would encourage you after this to go to Google
- 18:30Speaker 1: and type in hidden tenderloin. I think you would be
- 18:33Speaker 1: impressed with how often this phrase is thrown around about
- 18:37Speaker 1: this roast? Can you you know sure? Steve has multiple
- 18:44Speaker 1: answer I'm spoken now, Brody.
- 18:47Speaker 2: I'm there's a cut called the mock gender. But that's
- 18:50Speaker 2: all it is. There's no other, Yeah, there's no.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Brody is arguing with his white board Spencer.
- 19:00Speaker 6: If you google g sticks, you know what, I will.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Spencer, which of these should I cross out?
- 19:07Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 19:08Speaker 4: I got some banner for you.
- 19:10Speaker 10: You know, I spent a week with with Garrett Smith
- 19:13Speaker 10: uh in Colorado. I was doing most of the cooking
- 19:17Speaker 10: last week for him and my dad and that guy.
- 19:20Speaker 4: You can count on him whatever you may.
- 19:25Speaker 1: It's just like, oh, good dinner, companion.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Yeah you're like, yeah, thanks, you could give him that banana.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yeah, you brought that into your lunch.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Always have a banana with me.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Now, good luck.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 19:52Speaker 1: We have Anna saying I have round, Randalls saying inside round,
- 19:57Speaker 1: Max saying flank, Kevin saying sirloin star. Without an answer,
- 20:01Speaker 1: Brody saying I round, Yannis saying eye of round, Steve
- 20:05Speaker 1: saying football. We have a correct answer in the room.
- 20:09Speaker 1: It's eye of round, Brody, Janie and Anna got it right.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Thank god.
- 20:16Speaker 1: The eye of round is an elongated muscle that's tucked
- 20:19Speaker 1: inside a deer's hind quarter. It's sandwich between the top
- 20:22Speaker 1: round and bottom round along the femur. According to Danielle Pruitt,
- 20:26Speaker 1: it's a roast that you should save for a special
- 20:28Speaker 1: occasion and treat like a steak.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Would you accept the t I would.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Now that's from the other side.
- 20:37Speaker 10: I disagree about what it might It looks it looks
- 20:41Speaker 10: like the tenderloin.
- 20:43Speaker 4: It is nowhere near.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I didn't name it, Yanni.
- 20:46Speaker 10: I'm disagreeing. Not that you shouldn't treat it as a steak.
- 20:50Speaker 10: It's a nice cut of meat. But like if someone
- 20:54Speaker 10: was like, oh, this is like a tenderloin. Bro here,
- 20:56Speaker 10: I'm treating you right. Take this thing home and cook it.
- 21:00Speaker 10: You got that thing's authentic.
- 21:04Speaker 5: It's it's it's a leg muscle that gets worked pretty good.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Man around for like chicken fried steaks.
- 21:10Speaker 10: Pound it out, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, pounded or run
- 21:14Speaker 10: it through the grinder.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Like question for the topic is biology. This next
- 21:29Speaker 1: right question comes to us from Nick Sikowski. What element
- 21:33Speaker 1: in skunk spray is responsible for its pungent smell?
- 21:37Speaker 6: What the hell?
- 21:40Speaker 5: What is the definition of element?
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yeah, not giving you any hints? What element in skunk
- 21:49Speaker 1: spray is responsible for its pungent smell? So so the
- 21:58Speaker 1: room is not confused, I'm referring to like an element
- 22:01Speaker 1: from the periodic table table, like a literal element. What
- 22:06Speaker 1: element in skunk spray is responsible for its pungent smell?
- 22:11Speaker 5: That's the definition?
- 22:12Speaker 6: Should know this. I just ran over a skunk on Sunday.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I thought I could smell that when you walked in, Randall.
- 22:18Speaker 8: Yeah, it's stuck around. I didn't hit I didn't kill it.
- 22:22Speaker 8: The person in front of me killed it.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Oh that's what Anna says when she does the No
- 22:26Speaker 1: Country for old Men both in the cows. I didn't
- 22:29Speaker 1: kill it, just stunned it. Yeah, exactly what element in
- 22:34Speaker 1: skunk spray is responsible for its pungent smell? This is
- 22:39Speaker 1: question four. The room is not very confident.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Which I had a periodic table.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Kevin, how you feeling about it?
- 22:51Speaker 9: I feel pretty good.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Yeah, do you know your periodic table? Well as a
- 22:56Speaker 1: doctor at one, but Randall, do you know your periodic table?
- 23:03Speaker 6: Well, no, it's been a while, been a while. The
- 23:06Speaker 6: noble gases.
- 23:13Speaker 3: That's where he got lost.
- 23:16Speaker 8: I like it when you get to the elements that
- 23:17Speaker 8: are obviously named after other things.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Like Einsteini.
- 23:22Speaker 10: I helped my I think it was seventh sound through
- 23:26Speaker 10: eighth grade class remember antimony, which was SB by telling
- 23:32Speaker 10: him that to remember s B. Anthony Susan Susan b
- 23:38Speaker 10: Anthony Trapper.
- 23:39Speaker 5: Steve is stumped.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Oh yeah, bad. Matter of fact, when I wrote down,
- 23:44Speaker 3: I'm not convinced it's an element.
- 23:46Speaker 1: In their mind. I don't know if this is a word,
- 23:49Speaker 1: because everybody read all. Let's go ahead and reveal your answers, saying.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Harris, I don't know.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Randall's saying sul for Max saying so for kept and
- 24:00Speaker 1: saying sulfur, Chester saying methane. Crowd. Are you saying ammonia
- 24:04Speaker 1: crossed out sulfur? You're honest saying ammonia. I met sulfur
- 24:08Speaker 1: with this, but phosphorus blake sulfur. The correct answer is sulfur,
- 24:16Speaker 1: got it right? Why Why would we give it to
- 24:19Speaker 1: you for phosphorus?
- 24:20Speaker 3: I think sulfur is a phosphor, but I was asking
- 24:23Speaker 3: for the elements. So if it is, don't let me
- 24:26Speaker 3: look unless you want to argue with her.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Okay, you looked at up. Skunk spray is a thiel,
- 24:32Speaker 1: which is an organic compound with sulfur as the principal component.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Sulfur has a rotten egg smell and is what gives
- 24:40Speaker 1: a feel. It's gag inducing power. Skunks can accurately accurately
- 24:44Speaker 1: hit a target from up to twenty feet away. What
- 24:47Speaker 1: are we learning, Steve?
- 24:49Speaker 5: Does this count as an argument?
- 24:56Speaker 1: What are we looking up? Are you trying to phosphorus
- 24:58Speaker 1: is an element, so then you named a different element.
- 25:02Speaker 1: We're not going to accept that. Question five, the topic,
- 25:08Speaker 1: The topic is hunting. Topic is hunting?
- 25:12Speaker 3: A compound?
- 25:15Speaker 1: Name the two most owned dog breeds by upland hunters
- 25:19Speaker 1: in America. What topic is hunting? Name the two most
- 25:24Speaker 1: owned dog breeds by upland hunters in America. This is
- 25:28Speaker 1: via the North American Upland Bird Hunting Survey as of
- 25:34Speaker 1: when twenty twenty three.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Is this like really specific?
- 25:40Speaker 1: Here's how specific you should be. If you think the
- 25:42Speaker 1: answer is white tail deer, you can write white tail deer.
- 25:46Speaker 1: You wouldn't need to write cous deer. I'm sorry if
- 25:48Speaker 1: you thought the answer was cous deer, just write white
- 25:50Speaker 1: tail deer. That's good enough. Name the two most owned
- 25:58Speaker 1: dog breeds by upland hunters in America.
- 26:02Speaker 6: According to whom?
- 26:03Speaker 1: Again, this is the North American Upland Bird Hunting Survey.
- 26:09Speaker 5: Three A good feeling.
- 26:13Speaker 1: You need two answers for this. If you think the
- 26:16Speaker 1: answer is cou's deer, you can just write white tailed
- 26:18Speaker 1: deer instead.
- 26:25Speaker 3: What's what's there? You got? What's the score?
- 26:26Speaker 1: Right now? This is question five? We'll get a scoreboard update.
- 26:29Speaker 1: After this, Steve is expressing confusion. I will let our
- 26:33Speaker 1: listeners know that prior to the game, Yanni looked at
- 26:36Speaker 1: Steve's whiteboard and said, Steve, why did you write Seth's
- 26:40Speaker 1: name on it?
- 26:41Speaker 3: So I start off on a bad app. I wrote
- 26:44Speaker 3: someone else's.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Name for Steve's whiteboard. He literally wrote Seth's name, and
- 26:49Speaker 1: we have no explanation as to why. Here's the question again,
- 26:53Speaker 1: name the two most owned dog breeds by upland hunters
- 26:56Speaker 1: in America. So I need two answers from all of
- 26:59Speaker 1: our players. Is everybody ready? Dude? Ready? So hot? Ana? Hello?
- 27:08Speaker 1: Anna is making one change, we'll see go ahead, go
- 27:12Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answer. We have Anna saying German
- 27:17Speaker 1: wire hair and English setter, Randall's saying German short hair pointer,
- 27:21Speaker 1: and lab Max saying GSP and lab, Kevin saying GSP
- 27:26Speaker 1: and lab Chester and Brody saying GSP and lab, Jiannis
- 27:31Speaker 1: saying lab An English pointer, Steve Cross saying saying Brittany
- 27:38Speaker 1: and Springer. The two correct answers are German short hair
- 27:43Speaker 1: pointer and Labrador retriever. The room did pretty well. This
- 27:49Speaker 1: is via the North American Upland Bird Hunting survey that
- 27:52Speaker 1: was conducted by Project Upland They're Polling found that twenty
- 27:55Speaker 1: one percent of Upland hunters have a German short hair pointer,
- 27:59Speaker 1: nineteen percent a Labrador retriever, fourteen percent have an English setter,
- 28:04Speaker 1: eleven percent have a Brittany, and eleven percent have a
- 28:07Speaker 1: German wire haired pointer.
- 28:10Speaker 3: And I could just picture some.
- 28:13Speaker 6: Some watch what you're about to say, some snooty.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Or sky so I changed it.
- 28:20Speaker 8: That's actually why why when I asked who it was,
- 28:23Speaker 8: according like, where you're getting this from? I was wondering
- 28:26Speaker 8: if they would include lab or not, and I thought
- 28:29Speaker 8: it seemed like sufficient.
- 28:30Speaker 3: I thought, I know, but still I wouldn't have wrote
- 28:34Speaker 3: the other thing down though. Roting is that a word?
- 28:37Speaker 1: You're really You're really fade man, Phil. We are halfway
- 28:41Speaker 1: through our game of trivia. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 28:45Speaker 11: We have a a Chester, Max and Steve all tied
- 28:49Speaker 11: up with two points, Jannis has three and uh four
- 28:53Speaker 11: points apiece are Randall, Kevin and Brody in first place.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Kevin just needed me to write the episode to well.
- 29:00Speaker 9: I was gunning for Steve when he hosted I could
- 29:03Speaker 9: beat him.
- 29:03Speaker 1: There we go.
- 29:04Speaker 6: Kevin hasn't pattern Spencer.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Yes.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Question six, The topic is cooking. This next great question
- 29:20Speaker 1: comes to us via Steve Benke. This mushroom, which is
- 29:24Speaker 1: sometimes referred to as a lawyer's wig, commonly grows in parks, backyards,
- 29:29Speaker 1: and ditches. Topic is cooking. This mushroom, which is sometimes
- 29:42Speaker 1: sometimes referred to as a lawyer's wig, commonly grows in parks, backyards,
- 29:46Speaker 1: and ditches. Steve is confident he has the right answer. Steve,
- 29:50Speaker 1: you have this one.
- 29:51Speaker 6: Look like you fell.
- 29:55Speaker 1: He's making it worse, but for us that means he's
- 29:58Speaker 1: making it better.
- 30:00Speaker 4: He likes to smell that mark. What do you got
- 30:04Speaker 4: an edible mushroom?
- 30:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 30:06Speaker 3: Just the topic is cooking, so but what not to cook?
- 30:13Speaker 1: Brodie? How do you feel about your answers?
- 30:15Speaker 5: Oh, man, I'm not a mush like if it's not
- 30:17Speaker 5: a morell or chantrelle, I don't really care.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Okay, he's trying to put it like that. It doesn't matter.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Sure that he doesn't know.
- 30:25Speaker 1: This mushroom, which is sometimes referred to as a lawyer's wig,
- 30:29Speaker 1: commonly grows in parks, backyards, and ditches.
- 30:34Speaker 4: We got a lawyer coming up. It's a guest here.
- 30:38Speaker 1: A lawyer's wig. Does that change your answer? Chess?
- 30:43Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean yes for sure, but I can't think
- 30:45Speaker 7: of what I want to write down.
- 30:46Speaker 1: What's the lawyer coming up? Is it the corner crossing lawyer?
- 30:49Speaker 1: It's great? Is that fellow and outdoorsman himself a bottom? Okay,
- 30:54Speaker 1: loll learn something out? Does everybody have an answer? Go
- 31:00Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Anna saying puffball,
- 31:03Speaker 1: Randall saying Krusty's, Max saying the little brown mushroom, Kevin
- 31:09Speaker 1: saying chantrelle. Chess, you're saying turkey tail, Brody saying shaggy mane.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Yannas saying shaggy mane. Steve saying shaggy man.
- 31:17Speaker 3: The time of year I saw one today?
- 31:18Speaker 1: They got it. The correct answer is shaggy Maine.
- 31:21Speaker 3: They could come up. They could come up through broken asphalt.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Very impressive. And that time of year is like any
- 31:29Speaker 1: time of year that it's even.
- 31:30Speaker 3: They like they'll.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Grow anytime when you got rained between.
- 31:36Speaker 10: If anybody in this room is interested, I have a
- 31:38Speaker 10: big old patch available shaggy Man's.
- 31:41Speaker 3: It tastes like asparagus, and they do not freeze well
- 31:44Speaker 3: yet to pre cook them and then freeze them do
- 31:46Speaker 3: you see, you cook them if you freeze them though
- 31:48Speaker 3: this turned ink Yanni.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Do you spray the area where these things are located?
- 31:53Speaker 4: No, they're at my neighbors.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I'd be interested. Love shaggy manes. As the name implies,
- 31:58Speaker 1: they have a texture camp that resembles the lawyer's wig
- 32:02Speaker 1: that used to be common in British courtrooms. Shaggy Man's
- 32:06Speaker 1: regularly show up after rain and are just as common
- 32:09Speaker 1: in urban areas as they are in nature. They are
- 32:11Speaker 1: considered a choice edible mushroom and they work great on
- 32:15Speaker 1: steaks or burgers.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Can I tell you something I never heard lawyer's wig.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Is inferred, but they look like a lawyer's wig, and
- 32:24Speaker 1: they're one of those few edible mushrooms that grows right
- 32:27Speaker 1: in your backyard.
- 32:28Speaker 3: I feel like you do a lot of those. To
- 32:29Speaker 3: be honest with you, Where you have a like a
- 32:33Speaker 3: known as and you're known as is not something that
- 32:37Speaker 3: is known as.
- 32:38Speaker 1: It's part of trivia Question seven. The topic is conservation.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Name one of the two federal agencies that administer the
- 32:50Speaker 1: endangered species list name one of the two federal agencies
- 32:57Speaker 1: that administer the endangered species The room is very confident
- 33:02Speaker 1: unlike the mushroom question that we just had. I need
- 33:06Speaker 1: you to name one of the two federal agencies that
- 33:08Speaker 1: administer the endangered species list.
- 33:10Speaker 3: I'm on fire.
- 33:12Speaker 5: Coming back because it's hot.
- 33:15Speaker 1: This question seven? How do we do that? Phil? Our
- 33:20Speaker 1: all podcast studios just warm by nature?
- 33:24Speaker 11: I mean, yeah, there's usually a lot of expensive air
- 33:27Speaker 11: circulation happening.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Did you did you notice that when we were like
- 33:30Speaker 1: in serious or we're in serious studio?
- 33:33Speaker 11: Oh yeah, no, spotify that here. I don't know, it
- 33:39Speaker 11: doesn't It doesn't help that are the air to this
- 33:43Speaker 11: room is just connected to the whole building.
- 33:44Speaker 4: So it's cold outside.
- 33:45Speaker 11: It's just gonna hat the whole building, including this room
- 33:47Speaker 11: where we've got lights and cameras and ten people sitting around.
- 33:50Speaker 6: A lot of breath, a lot of breath.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Everybody have an answer. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 33:55Speaker 2: We have.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Ann are saying E P. A. Randall's saying US Fish
- 33:59Speaker 1: and why Life Service, Max saying US Fish and Wildlife Service,
- 34:02Speaker 1: Kevin saying US Fish and Wildlife Service, Chester saying them
- 34:06Speaker 1: of the Interior.
- 34:08Speaker 9: Vin say, it's a federal one.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Wildlife Service, Rody saying US Fish question Yanni and Steve
- 34:17Speaker 1: saying into what someone wrote. The correct answer is the
- 34:23Speaker 1: US Fish and Wildlife Service or the National Marine Fishery Service,
- 34:28Speaker 1: which is also known as the Noah Fisheries. The National
- 34:32Speaker 1: Marine Fishery Service, which is part of the Department of Commerce,
- 34:36Speaker 1: manages the marine portion of the Endangered Species list. The
- 34:40Speaker 1: US Fish and Wildlife Service, which is part of the
- 34:42Speaker 1: Department of the Interior, manages everything else. The two agencies
- 34:46Speaker 1: are responsible for decisions like listing and delisting, designating critical habitat,
- 34:52Speaker 1: and developing recovery plans. Question eight. The topic is woodsmanship.
- 34:57Speaker 1: This is our listener question of the week, which was
- 34:59Speaker 1: one by Evan Hardele for sending this great question. Evan
- 35:02Speaker 1: is going to get a book signed by Steve. If
- 35:04Speaker 1: you want a chance to win a listener Question of
- 35:06Speaker 1: the Week and send your question to Trivia at the
- 35:08Speaker 1: meadeater dot com. The topic is woodsmanship. Name two of
- 35:13Speaker 1: the five states with the most tornadoes since two thousand
- 35:17Speaker 1: and eight. Max is very confident. Max, you got this
- 35:23Speaker 1: one right. You think the topic is woodsmanship. I need
- 35:27Speaker 1: you to name two of the five states with the
- 35:30Speaker 1: most tornadoes since two thousand and eight, so you know
- 35:35Speaker 1: your risk factor when you're.
- 35:37Speaker 6: Going out of the woods.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Uh huh, yep, Like, am I gonna get hit by
- 35:40Speaker 1: a hurricane? Is there going to be a blizzard coming?
- 35:44Speaker 1: Or am I going to get struck down by a tornado?
- 35:49Speaker 1: Name two of the five states with the most tornadoes
- 35:53Speaker 1: since two thousand and eight. Our room looks like they're
- 35:57Speaker 1: feeling good, Kevin, is are these trivia questions more your
- 36:01Speaker 1: speed now that I'm in the host seat instead.
- 36:03Speaker 9: Of are you asking me if Steve's questions suck?
- 36:06Speaker 1: You can answer it however you'd like. I mean, you
- 36:09Speaker 1: are his dentist. That gives you some power to Yeah.
- 36:15Speaker 12: What I have always enjoyed about your trivia show is
- 36:18Speaker 12: I can do very well on average and then drop
- 36:22Speaker 12: a two. I can drop a deuce like that. Usually
- 36:27Speaker 12: I feel like I'm still around at question eight. I
- 36:30Speaker 12: don't know if I'm going to be there today.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Well, this is question eight. We'll get a leaderboard update
- 36:34Speaker 1: from philm after this. Does everybody have two states written?
- 36:43Speaker 1: Two of the five states of.
- 36:46Speaker 8: The two I was listening, I'm having a hard time
- 36:48Speaker 8: with reading cover you, but that would reveal that I'm
- 36:54Speaker 8: looking at your board.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Yeah, Now, Max was watching Randall that whole time with
- 36:58Speaker 1: a grin on his face because he knew and only
- 37:00Speaker 1: had one answer. Good looking at everybody, Go ahead and
- 37:07Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Anna saying Kansas and Oklahoma,
- 37:11Speaker 1: Randall saying Missouri and Kansas. Max saying Oklahoma and Kansas.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Kevin sang Alabama and Kansas. Chester saying Florida and Kansas,
- 37:22Speaker 1: Brody saying Kansas and Illinois. Jannis saying Oklahoma, Kansas, Steve
- 37:28Speaker 1: saying Arkansas and Missouri. The five states are Texas, Mississippi, Kansas, Alabama,
- 37:36Speaker 1: and Louisiana. I think did anybody get was the only one?
- 37:41Speaker 3: Kevin?
- 37:41Speaker 1: Well done? Kevin Kansas that.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Wants to kill that witch Kansas Kansas bias.
- 37:57Speaker 1: This information is via a study done by the Insurance
- 38:01Speaker 1: Information Institute. Since two thousand and eight, Texas has averaged
- 38:05Speaker 1: one hundred tornadoes per year, which leads the country. That's
- 38:08Speaker 1: followed by Mississippi with one o two, Kansas with eighty seven,
- 38:12Speaker 1: Alabama with eighty three, and Louisiana with sixty three. Just
- 38:16Speaker 1: missing the top five. We're Illinois, Iowa, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.
- 38:21Speaker 3: Where's our tornado alley?
- 38:23Speaker 1: Tornado alley? I think it's from like Texas to I
- 38:26Speaker 1: don't know, Illinois and the Great Plains. I think it's
- 38:28Speaker 1: a whole Greatlahoa.
- 38:29Speaker 3: I wrote art down my clays. There's all those trees
- 38:32Speaker 3: levels down by the toad.
- 38:35Speaker 5: Do you ever hear that Brent Reeves story about killing
- 38:38Speaker 5: a gobbler in a tornado?
- 38:39Speaker 1: That's right, yeah, film, We have two questions left. Where
- 38:44Speaker 1: does our leaderboard stand?
- 38:45Speaker 11: Geez buh, Chester and Anna have two points apiece, Max
- 38:50Speaker 11: has three and all of them will not be able
- 38:53Speaker 11: to catch up. But Steve has four points. Randal and
- 38:57Speaker 11: Giannis are tied up with five, and tied up in
- 38:59Speaker 11: first place are Brody, Henderson and Kevin the Dentist and
- 39:03Speaker 11: the guest playing a great game? How many points have
- 39:07Speaker 11: six points?
- 39:08Speaker 1: Six points? Two questions left? Question nine The topic is fishing.
- 39:14Speaker 1: This five letter word refers to the fixture on docks
- 39:18Speaker 1: and boats that acts as a tie down point for rope.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Randall's got it, Steve and Brody and Giannis and Kevin
- 39:27Speaker 1: will have it as well.
- 39:28Speaker 8: Game Chang, Yes, I feel like you need to get
- 39:33Speaker 8: Questions nine and ten need to bring the heat.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Well, he should have nines and tens in his pocket.
- 39:39Speaker 3: For when there's like a you know, yeah, some points.
- 39:47Speaker 3: That's what I was getting at. There's some questions where
- 39:50Speaker 3: he's like, just things only I'll know from when I'm behind.
- 39:54Speaker 1: As reading the room. Here, it looks like five people
- 39:57Speaker 1: have this right, three will not. Here's the question again.
- 40:02Speaker 1: This five letter word refers to the fixture warts and
- 40:06Speaker 1: boats that acts as a tie down point.
- 40:09Speaker 3: Laugh, Chess, you can't figure this out, Chess.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Ben warned that he's going to laugh. If you can't
- 40:17Speaker 1: figure out, give us a preview.
- 40:18Speaker 3: I'm gonna go.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Chester.
- 40:21Speaker 1: That's what's on the line here.
- 40:23Speaker 5: Chesster been pouring all his energy into taking care of.
- 40:27Speaker 8: Now.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Have you seen those videos of guys like throwing the
- 40:30Speaker 2: ropes around these things and they're so good at it?
- 40:33Speaker 3: Yeah, Max Drew one.
- 40:36Speaker 1: We're not going to give him credit, but he did
- 40:38Speaker 1: draw on you, Drew.
- 40:44Speaker 4: Chester.
- 40:44Speaker 1: What do we have for lunch today?
- 40:46Speaker 7: I didn't eat anything.
- 40:47Speaker 3: I came from a shoot.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Dang Chester. Steve's working. That's why, so I don't need
- 40:55Speaker 1: the second one. He does actually want giving up just
- 40:59Speaker 1: walking out. Okay, ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 41:06Speaker 1: We have anna without an answer, Randall saying cleat Max
- 41:09Speaker 1: drew what appears to be a cleat. Kevin, he says
- 41:12Speaker 1: cleat Chester without an answer. Brody and Giannis and Steve
- 41:15Speaker 1: all say cleete. They got it. The correct answer is
- 41:19Speaker 1: I think boat cleats had been around for thousands of
- 41:24Speaker 1: years and were independently developed by different cultures. The most
- 41:28Speaker 1: popular cleat today, which is known as a horn cleat,
- 41:31Speaker 1: dates back to the eighteenth century. Some other modern iterations
- 41:35Speaker 1: of the cleat include the jam cleat, the clam cleat,
- 41:38Speaker 1: and the zigzag cleat.
- 41:39Speaker 3: I like zigzag cleats quite a bit, but I like
- 41:41Speaker 3: him on the boat.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Mmmm. I wish you had a picture of zig zag cleet.
- 41:47Speaker 3: I'll show you one.
- 41:48Speaker 1: He's gonna draw one for us while Phil gives the
- 41:51Speaker 1: scoreboard up date.
- 41:51Speaker 5: Steve has erased his name from his board because given up.
- 41:56Speaker 11: We've got Giannis and Randall with six points, and Brody
- 41:59Speaker 11: and Kevin was.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Here's the top down view of a z cleat.
- 42:03Speaker 1: That's that's exactly what it looks like. Hmm.
- 42:10Speaker 4: And that's all you gotta do. You don't have.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Proved on a side of view. These look like this as.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Long as there's pressure from both sides.
- 42:19Speaker 3: So you lay the rope in that like the rope
- 42:21Speaker 3: laze like this?
- 42:22Speaker 11: Yeah, you want to hold that up for the class.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Very good question. Ten, the topic is shooting. This the
- 42:33Speaker 1: last great question comes to look.
- 42:35Speaker 3: At that picture? Know exactly what they were looking at?
- 42:37Speaker 6: Right?
- 42:37Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 42:39Speaker 1: Tell me what one of the H is in four
- 42:42Speaker 1: H stands for? And this is the organization that holds
- 42:45Speaker 1: the youth shooting competitions.
- 42:47Speaker 3: God give you the.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Sure well Steve, Steve has all the confidence. I think
- 42:54Speaker 1: he's the only one I know all the h really
- 42:57Speaker 1: very impressive. Again, the topic shooting, I need you to
- 43:01Speaker 1: tell me what one of the H is in four
- 43:04Speaker 1: H stands for? Is in the organization that holds youth
- 43:08Speaker 1: shooting competition? Steve is very sure of his answer. Is
- 43:14Speaker 1: anyone else competent? Anna? Do you have this one?
- 43:16Speaker 7: Right?
- 43:16Speaker 1: You do?
- 43:17Speaker 2: You?
- 43:18Speaker 1: Okay? What'd you do in four H? Oh?
- 43:23Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 43:24Speaker 4: Start with an H.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Did you ever win any sheep?
- 43:27Speaker 4: Or Baker's?
- 43:29Speaker 2: I think I won a Blue state for like peanut
- 43:33Speaker 2: butter cookies or something.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Wow, legendary Baker. Then here is still in this Gianni
- 43:38Speaker 1: is in it? I think we have Kevin Randall. Randall,
- 43:44Speaker 1: do you have one of the hs? No?
- 43:46Speaker 6: I don't. I'd rather tell you what the four stands for.
- 43:49Speaker 6: I think I have a pretty good guess.
- 43:51Speaker 1: But Kevin, do you have one of the ages? Brody
- 43:55Speaker 1: do you have one of the I have no idea, Johnnie,
- 43:57Speaker 1: do you have one of the ages? I believe so
- 43:59Speaker 1: I'll okay this.
- 44:02Speaker 3: This would have almost caught me up if this has happened.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Twice, if we'd made it a four pointer, I think
- 44:07Speaker 1: he'd be right there.
- 44:09Speaker 2: I will say I've killed a lot of fourage animals.
- 44:11Speaker 1: So, okay, is everybody ready? Randall, I'm adding to my answer.
- 44:17Speaker 6: I'm adding word answer.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Okay, just one word, though, is all we're looking for.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Anna saying heart,
- 44:26Speaker 1: Randall's saying homemaking, Max saying harvest, Kevin saying homemaker, Chester
- 44:33Speaker 1: saying heart, Brody saying home, crossed out, horticulture, Honest saying horse,
- 44:40Speaker 1: Steve saying heart, Steve, tell him what the four? Ah
- 44:43Speaker 1: isn't it?
- 44:44Speaker 3: Hands? Heart, head and health?
- 44:45Speaker 1: Headed, hearts, hands and health.
- 44:47Speaker 7: I pledge my head for greater thinking, my heart to
- 44:50Speaker 7: grow greater loyalty, my hands.
- 44:52Speaker 1: To You're getting to the fact, have to reach my head.
- 44:58Speaker 7: To greater thinking, my heart to greater low team, my
- 45:00Speaker 7: hands to larger service, maybe keep going, and my health
- 45:07Speaker 7: in my house, to.
- 45:10Speaker 1: To better living for my club, my community, my country,
- 45:13Speaker 1: and my world. The one era you had Chester was
- 45:16Speaker 1: I pledged my head to clearer thinking, not greater thinking.
- 45:19Speaker 1: But I'm very impressed that you and Anna knew that much.
- 45:23Speaker 5: Remember that you couldn't remember.
- 45:28Speaker 6: That could have been anybody's game.
- 45:30Speaker 1: They teach six disciplines in shooting that are archery, air rifle,
- 45:34Speaker 1: air pistol, shotgun, muzzleloader, twenty two rifle, and twenty two pistol. Phil,
- 45:39Speaker 1: I don't even know what happened there. Do we have
- 45:40Speaker 1: a winning.
- 45:41Speaker 11: Fagle for our leaders? So Brody and Kevin are tied
- 45:44Speaker 11: up with seven.
- 45:45Speaker 1: Points, and nobody joined them. Then nobody joined, Okay, Kevin
- 45:49Speaker 1: and you sure you got?
- 45:54Speaker 3: Everybody want to point out where.
- 45:57Speaker 11: Steve, Jannis and Randall all have six points and they
- 45:59Speaker 11: did a very good job.
- 46:00Speaker 4: We're all proud.
- 46:01Speaker 6: I think I think all four of those h's are
- 46:03Speaker 6: off brand.
- 46:07Speaker 1: But we were down to Brody and Kevin going to
- 46:10Speaker 1: overtime played the drop, Phil.
- 46:12Speaker 4: Possible, guess where.
- 46:17Speaker 3: I think just cut it at if you ain't first
- 46:19Speaker 3: your last and then like going to other stuff.
- 46:21Speaker 1: It's funny.
- 46:22Speaker 3: I never liked it a Phil off Man.
- 46:25Speaker 5: The tie breaker is a new Year. The first time
- 46:28Speaker 5: I ever met Kevin. I wanted a week ago, a
- 46:32Speaker 5: little over a week ago, and he walks up to me.
- 46:35Speaker 5: He's like, I really like beating you at trivia.
- 46:39Speaker 4: Know, and here we are.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Now his chance remember that Mark Kevin will have his
- 46:54Speaker 1: chance here. The tie breaking topic is hunting. This is
- 46:57Speaker 1: a nu miracle question. Whoever is the close between Brody
- 47:01Speaker 1: and Kevin will be declared the winner here it is
- 47:05Speaker 1: how many animals in the Boone and Crockett record book
- 47:08Speaker 1: are split into typical and non typical categories. Wow, everyone
- 47:14Speaker 1: in the room should play along. If somebody were to
- 47:17Speaker 1: get it right on the nose, we will add an
- 47:19Speaker 1: extra one dollar donation at the end of the game.
- 47:21Speaker 1: The only answers that we really care about are from
- 47:24Speaker 1: Kevin and Brody, though they need to tell me how
- 47:27Speaker 1: many animals and the Boone and crocket record book are
- 47:29Speaker 1: split into typical and non typical categories. I see both
- 47:34Speaker 1: of them doing some list making over there.
- 47:38Speaker 4: I'm making a list too.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Okay, random with a quick answer He doesn't care for
- 47:43Speaker 1: the extra hundred dollars donation. He just wants.
- 47:45Speaker 4: To get it over there.
- 47:47Speaker 3: How do you know?
- 47:48Speaker 1: You just know.
- 47:50Speaker 6: I was just able to come to my guests.
- 47:52Speaker 3: I know you're not going to answer this, but you
- 47:55Speaker 3: know what I'm wondering about is how much split is
- 47:58Speaker 3: going on?
- 48:00Speaker 1: Gonna not gonna be? This is a Boone and Crocket
- 48:02Speaker 1: record book. You need to tell me how many animals
- 48:05Speaker 1: they have split into typical and non typical categories. Kevin,
- 48:11Speaker 1: do you have any critters in the Boone and Crocket
- 48:13Speaker 1: record book?
- 48:15Speaker 12: I've never submitted one. I got a mountain goat that's worthy.
- 48:18Speaker 12: I have six years ago that I had green scored.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Okay, any other animals that would make it in there.
- 48:24Speaker 12: I've got about one hundred and twenty six of blacktails,
- 48:27Speaker 12: but I've never scored any of them.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Okay, one of them.
- 48:29Speaker 9: Maybe I grew up up there.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Brody. Have you ever killed a Boone and Crocket critter? Uh? Yes?
- 48:38Speaker 5: Two?
- 48:39Speaker 1: Okay, literally, don't let's not.
- 48:42Speaker 5: Let's not Crocket minimum.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Is everybody ready with an answer?
- 48:50Speaker 2: Oh?
- 48:51Speaker 3: With the deductions and everything?
- 48:56Speaker 5: Maybe not. I don't know a.
- 48:58Speaker 3: Black bear for sure, there's no deductions.
- 49:01Speaker 9: Was that a non typical black beard?
- 49:03Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 49:04Speaker 3: Actually pretty?
- 49:08Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 49:09Speaker 8: I feel like people kill three legged bears every now
- 49:12Speaker 8: and then?
- 49:12Speaker 1: Tripod? Mm hmm. Under Brody and Kevin, how do you
- 49:25Speaker 1: know he doesn't have it?
- 49:28Speaker 4: Would you ask me?
- 49:29Speaker 1: How do you feel about your answer?
- 49:31Speaker 4: Solid?
- 49:32Speaker 1: You think you have it on the nose? No, Brody,
- 49:36Speaker 1: are we ready?
- 49:37Speaker 4: I kill with the number and then added three. Go
- 49:40Speaker 4: ahead and.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Reveal your answers. We have Anna sang four, Randall sang nine,
- 49:44Speaker 1: Max sang nine, Chester saying seven, Yanna sang twelve, Steve
- 49:48Speaker 1: saying eight. We have Brody saying fourteen, and Kevin saying seven.
- 49:54Speaker 1: One of you is one off from the correct answer
- 49:58Speaker 1: between Brody and Kevin.
- 50:00Speaker 4: Mm hmmm.
- 50:00Speaker 1: The correct answer is six. Kevin is a winner.
- 50:07Speaker 3: Well done, I got closer than Brody.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, it's great. What the six animals are? Do
- 50:18Speaker 1: you want to name them? Do you think you know them?
- 50:20Speaker 9: Roosevelt, Rocky Mountain and Tuli, elk sick black tail mule deer.
- 50:24Speaker 1: And white tail American elk, Columbia black tail mule deer,
- 50:28Speaker 1: sick of black tail, white tailed deer and COO's white
- 50:31Speaker 1: tail moose is not a well done Kevin.
- 50:38Speaker 5: Everything doesn't matter how you get there, Kevin announced, Cora.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Kevin announced before the mics were on that on the
- 50:48Speaker 1: what on his drive over here he started to think
- 50:51Speaker 1: about who he would donate to, but he was worried
- 50:53Speaker 1: he was getting too far down that path, so he
- 50:55Speaker 1: stopped himself from coming up with a final answer. Kevin,
- 50:58Speaker 1: you've now had a chance to think about. Where is
- 51:00Speaker 1: the five hundred dollars donation from meat Eater going to go.
- 51:03Speaker 9: The Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance?
- 51:06Speaker 1: What do you like about them?
- 51:08Speaker 12: My happy place is looking down on mountain goats, and
- 51:11Speaker 12: I've been fortunate enough to do it a lot.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Uh.
- 51:14Speaker 12: They're actually indirectly why I'm here. The founder, Pete Munich,
- 51:19Speaker 12: was on your show years ago and talking about the Alliance.
- 51:23Speaker 12: I became a life member the next day and continue
- 51:27Speaker 12: to support him. They go out and try and support
- 51:31Speaker 12: fishing bio biology departments by doing annual counts every year
- 51:36Speaker 12: and working on research.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Well done, Cannibal Steve talked you up as a valid competitor,
- 51:42Speaker 1: and here he is now in the winner's chair.
- 51:45Speaker 9: Well, you're only right down the road.
