- 0:00did you know i met lizzo oh yeah really yes this is true so of course she was super famous
- 0:14let me break it down for you please do uh i was in seattle and i got invited to go to
- 0:21a show of Pizza Underground,
- 0:25which was with Macaulay Culkin.
- 0:28Is this true?
- 0:29Sounds true.
- 0:31So we were going to go to the show,
- 0:32so they were performing.
- 0:34Like a band?
- 0:35Yeah.
- 0:35Pizza Underground?
- 0:36Yeah, and they ordered pizza
- 0:38and they would pass the pizza out in the show.
- 0:41People were like passing around a big pizza box
- 0:43and we were all taking pizza.
- 0:45It already has Macaulay Culkin.
- 0:47Does the band need another hook?
- 0:48It feels like a hat on a hat.
- 0:51Unless Macaulay Culkin was just so worried that his name no longer was a draw.
- 0:56He's like, I need to offer pizza.
- 0:58It feels like a pizza on a Macaulay Culkin.
- 1:01Oh.
- 1:02Anyway.
- 1:04I was just happy to be there.
- 1:05I wasn't questioning things or thinking how they could be better.
- 1:09And the opener was a yet-to-be-famous Lizzo.
- 1:14And I was in the front row.
- 1:17And I was, like, right next to the stage.
- 1:19and she was like touching people's hands.
- 1:22So I put my hand out
- 1:24and she like touched my hand
- 1:26and she had such soft skin.
- 1:27It was crazy.
- 1:29Wow.
- 1:29Yeah.
- 1:30Are you sure Lizzo wasn't the one
- 1:31who had pizza going around?
- 1:35Oh, you.
- 1:38You made pizza sound like a disease just now.
- 1:41She had pizza going around.
- 1:45There's a cream for that now though.
- 1:47It's cream cheese.
- 1:48Anyway,
- 1:49When I left the show, I remember that there was, I was walking over a bridge and on the bridge there was a sign that said, don't jump and a phone number.
- 1:58And it was Lizzo's phone number.
- 2:01When you said you were walking over a bridge, I was picturing like a scenic little bridge over like a tiny little like stream.
- 2:12No, like a little wooden bridge, you know, just kind of like a cute little bridge.
- 2:16It was don't jump.
- 2:17I was like, oh, that's
- 2:19what's the worst that can happen?
- 2:23You get your ankles a little wet.
- 2:24Ankle injury, don't jump.
- 2:26And something else happened too.
- 2:28It was on the same trip.
- 2:30So they have this place called, I think it's called
- 2:33Dick's.
- 2:34I hope it's...
- 2:36No, it's like a...
- 2:38Is it called Dick's? It's a hamburger
- 2:41place. It's cash only.
- 2:43Where is this?
- 2:45Seattle. Oh, okay. Seattle, right.
- 2:46you did say that okay anyway um so i was i had to use cash it's because there was cash only so i
- 2:52was like away from the thing i was like counting my money and this lady came up and she goes hey
- 2:56you want to hook me up with some fries rob pat robert patterson was big at the time
- 3:00and i like wait patterson yeah pattinson no this is the author's son
- 3:08Robert Otherson
- 3:11you know the one the vampire
- 3:15yeah yeah
- 3:16yeah well she called me Rob Pat
- 3:18she didn't know either
- 3:20I had sunglasses on
- 3:22I'm not sure if it's Patterson or Pattinson
- 3:25better just go with Pat
- 3:26that's so weird I always call him
- 3:29Ertinson
- 3:29hey Rob
- 3:32she
- 3:34wanted fries so she's like I'm gonna hook you in some fries
- 3:37and I was like oh no sorry
- 3:39And I was like counting my money to make sure I had it.
- 3:40And she goes,
- 3:41don't count your money like you think I'm going to steal from you.
- 3:44And I was like,
- 3:45what?
- 3:49Maybe it's like counting your money to see how much money you have.
- 3:52Yeah,
- 3:52it's cash only.
- 3:54I didn't know her name,
- 3:55so I couldn't call her by her name.
- 3:57You know,
- 3:58like Deborah,
- 3:59come on.
- 4:00Kirstew.
- 4:03Wait,
- 4:04Kristen,
- 4:05Kurt,
- 4:05Kirsten,
- 4:06Kirsten Stewart,
- 4:08Kristen,
- 4:08We don't know any of the Twilight actors.
- 4:11Which one is it?
- 4:12It's Kristen.
- 4:13Kristen Stewart.
- 4:15Okay.
- 4:15I think I said Kirstew.
- 4:18Oh.
- 4:20Like Rob Patt.
- 4:22Okay.
- 4:22Yes.
- 4:22I thought you just didn't know the name Kristen.
- 4:28Kirstew Stewart.
- 4:31Anyway.
- 4:32Yeah.
- 4:32That sort of stuff makes me uncomfortable because I never know what to say.
- 4:35I mean, now I could be aggressive, but back then I was just a young child.
- 4:38I'm glad you've gotten aggressive.
- 4:45That's the Francis I know and love.
- 4:47I was going to walk over me.
- 4:48Nope.
- 4:49I'll take us both out.
- 4:51Exactly.
- 4:53That undercurrent of suicidal tendencies makes you a danger to yourself and to others.
- 5:00It's called a riptide.
- 5:01It looks real gentle from a distance.
- 5:03Yeah, that bridge story would have gone real differently.
- 5:06No one tells me what to do.
- 5:08defiant suicide
- 5:11welcome to very fine friends
- 5:15podcasts
- 5:17where friends talk about stuff
- 5:19about defiant suicide
- 5:21yeah
- 5:21you know what I always thought was very interesting
- 5:25the
- 5:27mash theme song
- 5:29you know that song
- 5:31we did the mash
- 5:33the monster
- 5:35oh
- 5:35do you know what it's called though what the real song is called
- 5:39no suicide is painless suicide is painless
- 5:43is the name of the mash theme song
- 5:46I knew it yeah you knew suicide
- 5:51was painless no I think it can be painful
- 5:55you're right but that I just says that like when I found that
- 5:59it was like what a dark dark name
- 6:03for that song.
- 6:04Yeah.
- 6:05Especially because it like
- 6:06ends on kind of like a
- 6:07da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
- 6:10Wait, it's like the
- 6:11da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
- 6:14No, I think it's more of like a
- 6:15da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
- 6:18Oh.
- 6:19No?
- 6:20No.
- 6:20Was I right?
- 6:21No, I was just, I was trying.
- 6:22Oh.
- 6:23I wanted to feel included.
- 6:24Joe was joshing around.
- 6:25Who was Joeing around?
- 6:26He's just joshing.
- 6:27He's just being a goof.
- 6:30I'm just goofing.
- 6:31Goofing?
- 6:32We're all just goofing.
- 6:33Gooping and boofing.
- 6:33We're just God's gophers here goofing on the go land.
- 6:37Quick interruption.
- 6:39Every week on the podcast, we do something where our producer Joe gives Francis and I each our own secret word.
- 6:49Throughout the course of the podcast, we need to find a way to slip the secret word into our conversation without the other person noticing.
- 6:57If the other person can correctly guess the secret word, they get a point.
- 7:01and right before we die, we add up all the points and then we get a prize, whoever has the most
- 7:10points for guessing the most secret words. Here's Joe with today's secret words.
- 7:15Not today, Joe. I'm taking over. My secret word is generating. My decoy word is firestorm.
- 7:26Francis's secret word is anorexia
- 7:30Francis's decoy word is inconsolable
- 7:34back to the pod
- 7:36well
- 7:39on this positive suicide note
- 7:42I think we need to bring something productive into the world
- 7:47let's get to
- 7:49the invention of the week
- 7:52invention
- 7:55yeah cool okay so we're doing things a little differently this what i know i know sorry
- 8:07listeners we're gonna mix it up a little bit so i had a francis's advice for how to invent things
- 8:18is do you have a problem in your life oh well just figure out how to fix that problem like
- 8:22what's something that annoys you?
- 8:23Then that's suddenly a new invention.
- 8:24You figure out how to fix it.
- 8:25New invention.
- 8:27Well, there was something that I noticed
- 8:30that I think is kind of a general annoyance and problem
- 8:33and probably for everybody in the world.
- 8:36And I don't know how to fix it.
- 8:38I've been thinking about it for days.
- 8:40So we're going to brainstorm.
- 8:41We're going to see if we can invent on the fly.
- 8:44So Francis, I'm going to tell you what my problem is.
- 8:48Okay?
- 8:49Mm-hmm.
- 8:50Yes.
- 8:52you know how you brush your teeth i do know that sometimes
- 8:57and you know how you the toothpaste often like the farther and farther along you get in using
- 9:11the toothpaste you get like residual toothpaste around the edge of the opening where it's because
- 9:18Yeah, I do know that.
- 9:19When you're either with a tube or even with little stand-up bottles, which are superior to tubes.
- 9:26I don't know why they don't do more of those.
- 9:29Yeah, because you've got to, you pump the toothpaste out of the tube.
- 9:34And then you've got to like push it off onto the toothbrush, right?
- 9:38So inevitably a little bit goes over the edge.
- 9:41So then eventually you're getting to the point where it's just toothpaste, just like gobs of extra toothpaste are around the edge and toothpaste gets everywhere.
- 9:51I've got it.
- 9:52Wait, okay.
- 9:54You already have, okay.
- 9:55I want to invent something that is like a clean.
- 10:01So from the entire time you're using it, it's a clean slice.
- 10:06It doesn't build up gobs of toothpaste around the opening of the toothpaste tube or container, whatever.
- 10:14Okay.
- 10:16All right.
- 10:17I can see the wheels turning, but Joe claims to have it already.
- 10:21Let's hear it.
- 10:22Joe for...
- 10:23It's called the paste pump.
- 10:27And...
- 10:27We start to name them first.
- 10:28Yes, what it is is it's basically like a little hand soap dispenser, but it's toothpaste inside.
- 10:35And there's a strip of very strong proprietary adhesive on the back of it that you peel off.
- 10:41Stick it against your wall at about shoulder height so that you can very conveniently just press it while you slide your toothbrush underneath it.
- 10:50So that's a precise motion.
- 10:51You're not losing any toothpaste.
- 10:54Here's the problem, though.
- 10:55Toothpaste is viscous.
- 10:58You need to like cut it off.
- 11:03You need to like you need to do that thing where you like put your toothbrush.
- 11:11There's the toothbrush is too integral in cutting off the stream of toothpaste.
- 11:16And so inevitably you're always going to get that like little bit that comes up and no matter what the dispensing system.
- 11:24It's the same principle as hot dogs or as a ketchup and mustard on a hot dog.
- 11:29Yeah.
- 11:29When they have those little things that you just slide the hot dog under.
- 11:32But what I'm saying is that's more liquidy.
- 11:38So it naturally cuts itself off a little bit more.
- 11:40No, you still have to cut it off with a hot dog.
- 11:43Just think of your toothbrushes like a tiny hot dog, Jenna.
- 11:47No, you don't have to cut it off with a hot dog necessarily.
- 11:49But either way, there's still like residual mustard and ketchup on one of those pumps.
- 11:57On my pumps.
- 12:00Okay.
- 12:01Not the way I pump them.
- 12:02I know what you're talking about.
- 12:04Thank you.
- 12:06I think the key here is I have two options.
- 12:14Okay.
- 12:15Here's one that's fun.
- 12:19So the bottom of your toothbrush, so we have a little dispenser,
- 12:26and you take the bottom of your toothbrush and you stick it in the dispenser,
- 12:30and it puts like a little tiny little cloth-like cover on the bottom of your toothbrush.
- 12:38And then when you're done getting the toothpaste, you can use that to wipe off the excess toothpaste.
- 12:44So you're just constantly wiping it.
- 12:46So you don't fix the problem necessarily.
- 12:49You just have a constant cleaning solution.
- 12:53Well, you're already going to be there getting the toothbrush or toothpaste.
- 12:56You could just turn it over and wipe it real quick in one motion, then brush.
- 12:59And then you could knock it into the garbage.
- 13:03That's one option.
- 13:04Okay.
- 13:04Here's another fun one.
- 13:08Toothpaste guillotine.
- 13:09I was thinking something along those lines too.
- 13:12I was thinking that, but then the guillotine would then just get toothpaste-y, right?
- 13:20No one likes a pasty guillotine.
- 13:24Yes.
- 13:25Yes.
- 13:27There's also brushing teeth in the shower.
- 13:31What?
- 13:32Sometimes people brush their teeth in the shower.
- 13:35That sounds disgusting to me.
- 13:38Don't you?
- 13:39You don't want your toothbrush near your genitals?
- 13:42strangely no
- 13:44I don't think it would be
- 13:45well if I do I want it to be my choice
- 13:47where are your teeth Jenna
- 13:48Francis
- 13:53it's time to tell you about the human vagina
- 13:56no daddy no
- 13:58there's teeth down there
- 14:00well I'm yeah
- 14:01I know
- 14:02I know that
- 14:05I know more than you
- 14:06okay so
- 14:09you have qualms about the guillotine
- 14:11Well, only, no, I mean, I love the guillotine idea because that's what I was thinking too.
- 14:15It's just transferring the problem to a different place.
- 14:18Yes.
- 14:18The guillotine would then become itself would get the residual.
- 14:26Wait a minute.
- 14:27What?
- 14:28Why are we acting crazy right now?
- 14:30I've got it.
- 14:31Okay.
- 14:32We invent a new toothbrush that's thicker than a normal toothbrush.
- 14:37and we have toothpaste cylinders that go into the toothbrush.
- 14:44And then there's like a thing near the head where you twist it
- 14:46and it comes out into like the middle of the toothbrush.
- 14:50And then who gives a shit?
- 14:53Yeah, I was thinking like little – like instead of toothpaste,
- 14:56it's like little cyanide capsules of toothpaste
- 14:58and then you put it in your mouth and then you start brushing
- 15:00and then it just breaks on impact.
- 15:03And then you're not losing any toothpaste.
- 15:04Well, they have stuff like that.
- 15:05I just assumed we were keeping toothpaste, but maybe.
- 15:09Wait, wait.
- 15:10So describe this again.
- 15:11Here, let me explain it again.
- 15:13Please do.
- 15:14So you have a toothbrush.
- 15:15It's normal, right?
- 15:16Okay.
- 15:16Imagine you have the same thing, but it's a little bit, the handle is a little bit fatter.
- 15:21Because inside, you can put in a tube, like a small tube of toothpaste, which obviously
- 15:28they're going to come in cylinders now because they're going to fit in your toothbrush.
- 15:31So it goes in, clicks into place.
- 15:34when it clicks it punctures it open it's all very japanese and then at the uh near the where the
- 15:41bristles are going to be beneath that there's like a twisty things for so that you can twist
- 15:45the toothpaste out of the tube and onto the brush then you never have to worry about oh there's some
- 15:52left because it's never going to be an issue and then it would also always be twisting from the
- 15:58bottom so the toothpaste would always be going up through the tube it's not like the psychopaths
- 16:04who squeeze from the middle of the tube no instead of going from the bottom up
- 16:08oh my gosh what if it was like toothpaste and like a little
- 16:14like thing like this like you have like hair gel or pomade or whatever yeah and then you can just scoop it out with your toothbrush They have that They do They do Seriously
- 16:25So this is what it feels like to be me, huh?
- 16:30Yeah.
- 16:31Well, I mean, this was you a few minutes ago with vaginas and teeth.
- 16:36So don't act all high and mighty.
- 16:38You're right.
- 16:38I got to stay low to the ground.
- 16:39We invented vaginas with teeth.
- 16:43Oh, yeah, it's real.
- 16:44They have tooth powder.
- 16:44They have the tablets like you were talking about.
- 16:48Wow.
- 16:49I kind of don't like the idea of the tooth powder because.
- 16:51I don't either.
- 16:53Like, I guess you could maybe take it with your fingers and sprinkle it on.
- 16:56But I don't like the idea of you dipping your toothbrush that you've already put in your mouth.
- 17:02I don't know.
- 17:03Yeah.
- 17:04Well, that's the thing is then, yeah, you're.
- 17:08So it would still have the texture.
- 17:10Like they sell it still like the consistency that toothpaste is right now.
- 17:14What's the question?
- 17:16In that little like pomade jar?
- 17:18No, it's like, they might.
- 17:20I mean, I'd be surprised if they didn't have that,
- 17:23but they also have like a mineralized powder toothbrush or toothpaste.
- 17:28They call it tooth powder.
- 17:29They have the tablets like Joe was talking about where you just.
- 17:32I've never heard of the tablets.
- 17:33It's good for traveling because then you can just like crunch it and brush.
- 17:37Crunch and brush.
- 17:39Ooh.
- 17:40Dot com.
- 17:41um okay i like this toothbrush idea it also would be good for traveling because it minimizes space
- 17:57you could still theoretically just have like you know your travel container for your toothbrush
- 18:01um is it we could make it tsa compliant oh yeah we can do all that
- 18:09cool
- 18:12what are we going to call it
- 18:16I like this the toothbrush I feel like
- 18:19solves
- 18:21which one are we settling on
- 18:23the toothbrush with the canister in it
- 18:25that you click in
- 18:26and then you just kind of twist the bottom of the
- 18:29toothbrush and it dispenses toothpaste
- 18:31directly into the bristles
- 18:32I think we should call it the brisly bear
- 18:36the brisly bear
- 18:38yeah
- 18:39okay
- 18:43you can't handle the tooth
- 18:45that makes me think that someone has one big tooth they're brushing
- 18:51i'm just thinking because you put the canister in the handle and you use it on your teeth so
- 18:57you can't handle the tooth i didn't even pick up on the handle part of it
- 19:01yeah you can handle the tooth well you can't
- 19:06tooth tubes
- 19:16jubies tooth tubies
- 19:24jubies tooth tubies write it down that has name power
- 19:30jubies tooth tubies i'm buying one
- 19:36Our faces could be on the refill tubes.
- 19:41Oh, yeah, we could each have our own flavor.
- 19:44Or are you getting a Francis, a Jenna, or a Joe?
- 19:49What are our flavors?
- 19:51What mint flavor do you want?
- 19:54It's got to be mint, right?
- 19:55You can't do anything.
- 19:55No, you could be Fruity Francis.
- 19:58I have a feeling Francis doesn't like that nickname.
- 20:00I'm not.
- 20:03I'm not doing that.
- 20:06I think you're right about the mint.
- 20:09I think a nice Andy's mint could be fun.
- 20:12It's like a chocolate mint?
- 20:13Yeah, we'll do a partnership.
- 20:15Andy's?
- 20:16Or we'll just call it Andrew's mint.
- 20:19And then two middle fingers.
- 20:23Your flavor could be chocolate-covered pretzel.
- 20:28And the toothpaste stays hard when it's wet.
- 20:32No.
- 20:33It's Andrew's mint.
- 20:35But yes.
- 20:35I never understood anything like sugar related in toothpaste.
- 20:40It's like that just, even if it doesn't actually have sugar in it,
- 20:43it just feels like you're putting it back on your teeth and you're trying to get it off.
- 20:46What if you forgot and you ate it?
- 20:50Um, can I confess something?
- 20:52Well, as just to, and before I make this confession, I want to clarify,
- 20:56I am the only one that uses my toothpaste.
- 20:59It's not shared toothpaste.
- 21:02Sometimes if I don't feel like brushing my teeth, but I, I mean,
- 21:04I always brush my teeth at the regular times of day,
- 21:06but if I like extra,
- 21:07I,
- 21:08I want,
- 21:09I brush my teeth no less than three times of a day.
- 21:12You brush your teeth three times a day.
- 21:13Yeah.
- 21:15What?
- 21:16Three times.
- 21:17I brush mine too on a good day.
- 21:19Oh,
- 21:20I never brush less than twice.
- 21:21Always when I wake up and always when I go to bed,
- 21:23there might be a time that I don't in between,
- 21:26but usually midday I'll brush again too.
- 21:30But anyway,
- 21:31the point is if I just want a quick hit of fresh breath,
- 21:34I'll stick the tube up to my mouth
- 21:36and just lick some off.
- 21:38I'll squeeze a little and lick.
- 21:40That's not weird.
- 21:41Okay. Thank you.
- 21:44Let's just get Listerine.
- 21:47Yeah.
- 21:48Sometimes it's not around.
- 21:49We always know where to find toothpaste.
- 21:52And Listerine, that's a different...
- 21:54You still gotta squish and this is just like
- 21:56I'm just eating it and it's in my mouth.
- 21:58It's just a little tiny lick.
- 22:00Gives her some wintergreen.
- 22:02Well, I like Listerine because on the bottle it says that it gives you a fresher and cleaner mouth feel than brushing alone.
- 22:08And I just like seeing the words mouth feel on my Listerine.
- 22:12Fun fact.
- 22:14They put the word feel on there to get out of legal responsibility.
- 22:21Gives you a cleaner mouth feel.
- 22:23It isn't actually cleaner, but it feels like it is.
- 22:25It feels cleaner, yeah.
- 22:28Just kidding.
- 22:29I don't know anything.
- 22:29Don't sue us.
- 22:30It used to say it gives you a cleaner mouth in in inarguable truth of the universe.
- 22:38It's absolutely factual, which was a weird thing to put on a bottle.
- 22:42Yeah, it really was.
- 22:43The bottle was much bigger to fit all that text.
- 22:46Oh, thank God we have a lawyer.
- 22:48It's just I just it just hits me just now.
- 22:50You never used to do this as like a meal replacement.
- 22:53Did you eating toothpaste?
- 22:54Yeah.
- 22:55No.
- 22:55OK, because I was worried.
- 22:56I was worried you were like, just admitting like, oh, maybe I had a little anorexia.
- 23:02Like, I just ate toothpaste.
- 23:02Oh, did I eat toothpaste?
- 23:03No, no, no, no.
- 23:04No.
- 23:04No, I'm not psychotic.
- 23:06Okay.
- 23:06To our listeners that do eat that as a meal.
- 23:09I'm sorry.
- 23:10That's psychotic.
- 23:10Don't do that.
- 23:11To our listeners who do eat that as a meal.
- 23:13We love you.
- 23:14We love you.
- 23:15We do love you, which is why we're telling you, don't do that anymore.
- 23:17We'll give you a sample pack.
- 23:19Oh, sure.
- 23:20And then that's a free meal.
- 23:22Yeah.
- 23:22Is toothpaste edible?
- 23:24Yeah.
- 23:24yes we put it into our mouths every day what do you think jenna has been subsisting on wait a
- 23:30minute let's say it's not edible you have to spit it out when you're done so i'm just curious no you
- 23:34can swallow it you can swallow like mouthwash i mean really it would be bernie and it would
- 23:41like make your hi i'm bernie
- 23:43i'm in your throat right now uh no it's just it just isn't good i mean but it's not gonna kill
- 23:51you. It's not going to hurt you.
- 23:53There's definitely... It's not like
- 23:55bleach, Francis. Also, you can drink
- 23:57bleach.
- 23:59You can.
- 24:01Jenna's like, we're talking about two of the
- 24:03three major foods in my food diet.
- 24:05You just tried to describe breakfast and lunch,
- 24:07my man. We have to change
- 24:09a song title from the beginning of the episode.
- 24:11Suicide is painful.
- 24:12No, I mean, you don't want to have a ton
- 24:15of it, but you can dilute bleach and
- 24:17drink it. It's totally fine. You can
- 24:19not dilute it and
- 24:20drink it.
- 24:22It'll just be painful going down.
- 24:25It will kill you.
- 24:26No, I'm pretty sure you can drink bleach.
- 24:29Blisters,
- 24:30try drinking bleach
- 24:32and get back to us and tell us your status.
- 24:34No, I'm
- 24:35telling you.
- 24:40This is my advice to you.
- 24:44Not a lot of bleach.
- 24:46Everything in moderation.
- 24:48Quick interruption.
- 24:50don't drink bleach.
- 24:53Thank you.
- 24:55But, anyway.
- 24:57You know what I never understood?
- 24:58And this is going to be so boring to listen to.
- 24:59I'm sorry, but I'm just going to say it anyway.
- 25:00You know how there's the pH scale?
- 25:03So there's like acids and bases.
- 25:06So I knew that like acids,
- 25:09like a hydrochloric acid, right, could like kill you.
- 25:12So I never understood how a base could like kill you too.
- 25:16I thought like a base would be safe then.
- 25:17That's not the case.
- 25:18bases can kill you too yes you really want to stay in the middle yeah moderation moderation
- 25:27exactly just like with drinking bleach well it's the same with food too if you eat too much food
- 25:32it could kill you and if you eat not enough food it could also kill you there's only one of those
- 25:36that I'm interested in trying.
- 25:42Okay, so we have
- 25:44the Brizzly Bear.
- 25:46You can't handle the tooth.
- 25:50Juby's Tooth Doobies.
- 25:52We each
- 25:53came up with a name.
- 25:56We were each generating a name
- 25:58for this. I am proud of us
- 26:00for that.
- 26:02Time for a pretzel.
- 26:05Yes, listeners,
- 26:05one thing you don't know is
- 26:07we have chocolate covered pretzels here in the studio.
- 26:10So if you hear any extra
- 26:12crunching, that's
- 26:14what's going on.
- 26:16That was Joe.
- 26:18There goes Joe, just to
- 26:20prove it.
- 26:22This episode is sponsored by
- 26:23pretzels. Get the
- 26:25goody Juby Crunch.
- 26:28Thanks.
- 26:30Thanks.
- 26:32More ads should end with
- 26:34thanks.
- 26:35Juby's out to lunch. Juby's gonna munch. Juby's got that crunch. Juby's.
- 26:43All right. Well, uh, thank you for solving my problem, Francis. See, I knew you could do it.
- 26:50Thank you. I helped. You were there. Yeah. You did help.
- 26:57The ultimate invention came from Francis. So. Hey. Sorry.
- 27:05You're a good namer.
- 27:08And I'm good at nothing.
- 27:09State Farm is there.
- 27:12Like a good namer?
- 27:13Thanks.
- 27:15All right, that wraps up the invention of the week.
- 27:20It's time for our next segment.
- 27:24Dr. Truth.
- 27:30Need advice?
- 27:33Ask Dr. Truth.
- 27:35So in this segment,
- 27:41Joe is going to be asking Francis and I
- 27:46life advice questions
- 27:50that he's gotten from our many, many listeners
- 27:54that have submitted.
- 27:57And they've all submitted anonymously.
- 28:02Cowards.
- 28:04Cowards.
- 28:05But Francis and I will be answering them as the best of our ability, similar to a Dr. Ruth, but for copyright reasons, not Dr. Ruth.
- 28:21So what's our first question?
- 28:24What can we help you with?
- 28:25All right.
- 28:25Our first question is from a listener in the Midwest.
- 28:29What's your solution for stopping yourself from flying off the handle at someone when they upset you?
- 28:35Well, I'm not sure if Francis is the right one to answer this question.
- 28:43This listener actually specifically requested Francis's answer.
- 28:47Okay, well, do you want me to answer first or do you want to answer?
- 28:50Sure, go ahead if you've got something.
- 28:52I do.
- 28:53Notice how calm I am right now.
- 28:54So, listener, what you're going to want to do is go to McDonald's and get a whole bunch, as many ketchup packets as they will let you have.
- 29:08You're going to need a lot of ketchup packets, specifically McDonald's ketchup packets.
- 29:13Even though they say, I think they say they're Heinz, there's something about them they're not.
- 29:18It's specifically made for McDonald's.
- 29:20It's different.
- 29:21put as much ketchup as you can into a bowl
- 29:29and then have that bowl with you at all times.
- 29:34Then at any point in time, if you get upset,
- 29:39you take your right hand, put it in the bowl of ketchup,
- 29:45pull it out
- 29:48then you realize you've got ketchup all over your hands
- 29:53and now you've got a whole new problem to deal with
- 29:55and you can't think about what made you angry
- 29:57now you've got to get ketchup off your hands
- 30:00before it gets all over the place
- 30:03because ketchup stains and ketchup gets all over the place
- 30:06so you're basically creating a new problem to distract yourself
- 30:09and I recommend ketchup
- 30:11I also recommend if you're really serious about this process
- 30:14wearing head-to-toe white, like the good humor man,
- 30:18that'll really help make this solution stick.
- 30:23Or not stick, because you don't want the ketchup on you.
- 30:26But anyway, basically, you're distracting yourself with a new problem.
- 30:31I call it ketchup hands.
- 30:34That's my advice.
- 30:36It's beautiful.
- 30:36Thank you.
- 30:38How to stop yourself from flying off the handle at someone.
- 30:44I like to do a little thing I call and other people call imagining.
- 30:49Who is this person that I'm mad at?
- 30:53What made them who they are today?
- 30:55Here's something I noticed.
- 30:57Everyone has a story.
- 31:00Everyone has a chapter before me.
- 31:03What was in that chapter?
- 31:05So before I get really mad now,
- 31:07I just assume something horrible happened to them.
- 31:10they had bad parents they had a bad day they got assaulted
- 31:16you know maybe they spilled coffee on themselves
- 31:20and it happened right before our interaction so yes i could very well be in the right usually
- 31:29always am when i get mad i don't get mad because i'm in the wrong that's actually in the legal
- 31:36language of being upset why would i be upset if i was wrong you wouldn't you're a reasonable human
- 31:42being that's a bumper sticker waiting to be printed uh so even though i'm like okay so first
- 31:48i applaud myself because it's like you're right and it's good to be right so if if nothing else
- 31:54you have your accuracy you know they might not see it your way but guess what at the end of the day
- 32:01you're going home right.
- 32:03They don't have that.
- 32:05Then I feel, what comes up next?
- 32:07Pity. I feel bad
- 32:09for them because they're not right.
- 32:12Then I think
- 32:13they're wildly stupid.
- 32:15More pity. They're stupid.
- 32:17They can't help it.
- 32:19Stupid people can't not be stupid.
- 32:21I'm blessed. I'm so blessed
- 32:23to be right and be smart.
- 32:25And then this is all happening internally, but it is
- 32:27taking time, so they're probably leaving
- 32:29while I'm doing all this math.
- 32:33By the time I come back to the situation,
- 32:35there no one to be mad at because they gone Your solution is just think about a lot of other shit to distract yourself until they leave Yeah Okay So yours is a mental solution
- 32:48Mine's a physical solution.
- 32:50Yeah.
- 32:51But both involve distracting yourself from whatever is making you angry.
- 32:56You're right.
- 32:57That was a very good, succinct wrap up.
- 33:02Thank you.
- 33:03Our next question is from a listener in Trinidad and Tobago.
- 33:09Trinidadian and Tobago.
- 33:12How do I make my house inhospitable enough that my mother-in-law won't want to stay with us?
- 33:19Ugh, mother-in-laws.
- 33:20Am I right?
- 33:22Oh, yeah.
- 33:23Oh, you're right.
- 33:24Everybody loves Raymond, am I right?
- 33:28Where's Raymond?
- 33:29Debra gave Raymond the figurine
- 33:34Raymond where's the figurine I gave Debra
- 33:36let me take this one
- 33:39first
- 33:39you want to make your house inhospitable to your mother-in-law
- 33:42right
- 33:43all you've got to do
- 33:46is casually mention during dinner
- 33:49that
- 33:50you and her son are now open
- 33:52in poly
- 33:53and
- 33:55I hope you don't mind while you're here
- 33:58we're going to be interviewing people for our thirds and maybe our fourths.
- 34:03Um,
- 34:03and the interviews will be loud and then make sure you call her mama.
- 34:09Like what's your work experience?
- 34:15Like that?
- 34:16Yes,
- 34:16exactly like that.
- 34:17Um,
- 34:18and if that doesn't work,
- 34:20um,
- 34:22I think if you keep the house stocked with allergens specific to the mother-in-law,
- 34:26that will scare her away.
- 34:30Hmm.
- 34:31You know?
- 34:33Allergens are scary.
- 34:34Yeah, sorry, I hope you like your new peanut-filled pillows.
- 34:40She's like, I specifically asked you for chocolate almond-covered pillows.
- 34:44Oh, I knew I messed something up.
- 34:46So my solution is to lie.
- 34:49Okay.
- 34:49Okay.
- 34:49I would recommend if you want to keep your reputation with your mother-in-law still intact,
- 35:00if you don't want to have your marriage sullied with extra people or the thought of extra people,
- 35:09I would recommend a moat around your house with sharpened spears.
- 35:26So there is a drawbridge because you got to get it out,
- 35:30but it's a voice activated drawbridge.
- 35:33A moat and a voice activated drawbridge with spears?
- 35:36What about the HOA?
- 35:37Oh, you're already, you're not in an HOA neighborhood.
- 35:42Autonomy, baby.
- 35:44Okay, so this is only going to help people who...
- 35:46They don't have HOAs in Trinidad.
- 35:47You've already declared yourself a sovereign citizen at this point.
- 35:51Yeah.
- 35:52So if anybody tries to voice activate,
- 36:00because here's the trick with your voice activated mode.
- 36:03the
- 36:06because you'll say it'll be like a fun catchy phrase like open sesame right something winky
- 36:13and just like open sesame like that voice but it's only for you and your partner who those are
- 36:20the only voices that will actually lower the moat if somebody else tries to access it it'll lower
- 36:27the bridge over the moat but the second someone else tries to walk on it spears will come down
- 36:34like like wooden sticks that are sharpened at the edge like really primitive spears
- 36:38you're like yeah i don't want my mother-in-law to think that i'm in a polyamorous relationship
- 36:43but i will kill her well but you just pretend like it's like oh this was just i needed the
- 36:48best security and this is such a good security system and we can't add another profile to it
- 36:55we can't the max is too
- 36:57even though it costs all this money that somehow
- 36:59isn't allowed oh that's part of the reason
- 37:01why it's such a good security system the more people that have
- 37:03the key you know what I'm saying sorry
- 37:05Trinamonian
- 37:06sorry Bernice
- 37:09wow
- 37:11thank you
- 37:13that was something else
- 37:14so again yours a little more psychological
- 37:16mine a little more physical
- 37:18I'm going to try to be physical this next time
- 37:21okay
- 37:22join me won't you
- 37:23The water over here is just fine.
- 37:26Thank you.
- 37:28This next question comes from a listener who is on a research boat in the Arctic Circle.
- 37:37Whoa.
- 37:39This listener wants to know.
- 37:40Those ads really paid off.
- 37:41Mm-hmm.
- 37:42Yeah.
- 37:42Yeah.
- 37:43Thanks.
- 37:44Thanks.
- 37:48Anyways.
- 37:48what's the fastest way to get over an X
- 37:54this is a tough one
- 37:59there's obviously
- 38:04time heals all wounds but you're asking for something faster than just regular
- 38:08time
- 38:08so this is what I'd recommend
- 38:13go to
- 38:18Indianapolis
- 38:19where they drive
- 38:22Indiana?
- 38:24Yes, Indiana.
- 38:26Where they drive
- 38:28the
- 38:29Indy 500.
- 38:32Oh, that makes sense.
- 38:35Find
- 38:36one of those drivers
- 38:38and ask him to give you a real fast rider
- 38:42on the track.
- 38:44And
- 38:44at the same time
- 38:47have a
- 38:50clock with you or watch
- 38:53that you
- 38:56put double the amount of batteries in
- 38:59so it moves twice as fast.
- 39:02I didn't know you could just fit more batteries in the thing.
- 39:05That's how watches work.
- 39:07I didn't, sorry.
- 39:08You are learning so much tonight.
- 39:11Do the watches have teeth?
- 39:14Yes, actually
- 39:15they do in the gears.
- 39:16They're called teeth.
- 39:17um so the driver takes you around the track several times it's fun by the way you're doing
- 39:26this it's fun you're going wee wee but you will get out of the car look at the watch and be like
- 39:32whoa so much time has passed that was way like it felt fast but it went way way faster
- 39:37so you will feel as if you have accelerated the amount of time since
- 39:41you broke up with can i just have a question you're the one putting the extra batteries in
- 39:48for the purpose of moving time faster and yet you will be surprised when you see that it has done so
- 39:55no no so here i i'm sorry i didn't get i haven't had a chance to explain this part of it yet
- 39:59you there are special sleeping pills that you take so the night before
- 40:07you put one of the sleeping pills into the handle of your toothbrush
- 40:11no joe this is real advice this so dedicated to the arctic circle go on
- 40:18you there's a sleeping pill where it's kind of like you're roofing yourself but not really
- 40:24like you get a nice and it's yourself so it's yourself who cares uh what are you gonna do
- 40:28yeah um so you you have special instructions when you this is for specifically for getting
- 40:36over an X. So it's like a kit that you buy with the watch and the extra batteries and the sleeping
- 40:42pill. You take the sleeping pill, the sleeping pill starts to work. And then like, there's a
- 40:49little alarm that goes off on the watch. You like tell the watch when you started it, right?
- 40:53The alarm goes off on the watch. You put the extra batteries in and this happens right at the period
- 40:58of time when the sleeping pill sets in where you're still awake and functional, but you're
- 41:01not going to remember this part the next day. Hypnagogic. Yep. So then, yes, exactly. So then
- 41:08you don't remember having put extra batteries in the watch. It also erases the memory of taking
- 41:16the sleeping pill and buying the kit. And deletes the transaction from your bank account.
- 41:21Yes. Wow, that's quite a kit you're selling. Well, I mean, sadly, people get dumped all the time.
- 41:27they do speaking of dumped i have an idea okay you give them laxatives
- 41:33okay um a lot of laxatives and you tell them you want to meet up and give them the last of their
- 41:43stuff and then they show up and they do not feel well because of the laxatives and they
- 41:51have to blow up the Starbucks bathroom.
- 41:55As everyone knows, once you get the ick.
- 41:58Wait, are you meeting them in Starbucks?
- 42:02Yeah, because you need to be there
- 42:04when you want them to disgust you.
- 42:07So you've given them the laxatives
- 42:09prior to the stuff exchange.
- 42:10Yeah, you know all about their life.
- 42:13You know how to get a laxative in that.
- 42:17I'm just saying, at least in my experience,
- 42:20As soon as someone does something like really gross to me or to me, you know, gross in the world.
- 42:26It's very easy to like not like them anymore.
- 42:29So if I was with someone and that happened, I'd be like, okay, thanks.
- 42:32I needed that.
- 42:33I'm up like up against the door.
- 42:37He's really going off in there.
- 42:39Well, got to go.
- 42:42Okay.
- 42:43So my kid only has lexatives, which we're reselling from the store.
- 42:50And it comes with a video camera so you can record the whole thing in case you ever want to remember it again.
- 42:56Actually, due to privacy laws, it only has a microphone, but that'll be enough.
- 43:00Yeah.
- 43:00Actually, this is interesting.
- 43:02Yours was very mental and yours was actually physical.
- 43:05I told you we were going to switch it up.
- 43:06Yeah, you did.
- 43:07Good job, you two.
- 43:08Yeah, that mental thing of going in an Indy 500 car.
- 43:11Well, the mental tricking yourself into thinking that time passes quickly.
- 43:16Yeah, that's true.
- 43:17All right.
- 43:18What's our next question?
- 43:20oh am i allowed to ask yes please well your our listeners are
- 43:26only listeners let me guess this next one's from don't tell me madagascar yes are you kidding no
- 43:33are you serious yes stop it no tell us where it's really from oh i believed you
- 43:41it's from tasmania oh i was gonna say tunisia you devil i know so it's it's close but not
- 43:49technically met. Okay, it's fine.
- 43:53What's
- 43:54the most productive
- 43:55way I can tell my partner to just
- 43:57shut up?
- 44:01Ooh.
- 44:02Okay.
- 44:05Productive?
- 44:08Effective, like
- 44:09least
- 44:10computational. No, no, no. What's the exact words of the submission?
- 44:13What did they want to know? The submission said productive.
- 44:15I would consider productive being
- 44:17like maximizing results
- 44:19but minimizing harm.
- 44:22So like,
- 44:23you don't want this to,
- 44:24because you could just,
- 44:25right now you could just say,
- 44:27shut up,
- 44:27but that's going to have some serious
- 44:29effects on your relationship.
- 44:32It's going to cause a whole lot of tension,
- 44:34a lot of anger or whatever.
- 44:35So if you're trying to avoid
- 44:37having those problems,
- 44:39yeah, what do you do?
- 44:41I've got it.
- 44:42Okay.
- 44:44You give them a sleeping pill?
- 44:47Nightly.
- 44:47a sleeping pill and a half.
- 44:51And when they're fully out,
- 44:53you take a little chisel and a hammer
- 44:56and you do one to two good whacks on their jaw
- 45:00so that over time you break the jaw.
- 45:05But it's never so much all at once.
- 45:07And you do this in a few places.
- 45:11Now you're the supportive partner.
- 45:13Oh, babe, your jaw hurts?
- 45:15What?
- 45:16Let me see.
- 45:17Oh, it does look a little swollen.
- 45:18Huh?
- 45:19I'll make you an appointment.
- 45:21Hey, hey, I'm with you.
- 45:22You looks maxing?
- 45:24You heard that?
- 45:25The looks maxing people that break their jaw?
- 45:27Yeah.
- 45:28I can make that joke.
- 45:29Yeah.
- 45:29Thanks.
- 45:30I'll put that in my pocket.
- 45:31You looks maxing, babe?
- 45:32Oh, I'm sorry.
- 45:33I shouldn't joke.
- 45:33You look like you're in pain.
- 45:34Hmm.
- 45:36Anyway.
- 45:36You looks maxed like you're in pain.
- 45:38We go to the doctor.
- 45:40Of course, there's multiple fractures.
- 45:41We don't know how this happened.
- 45:42Whoops.
- 45:43Now his jaw has to be wired shut.
- 45:45for probably six weeks.
- 45:50Guess who
- 45:51just shut up
- 45:53on medical orders?
- 45:54Jesus Christ.
- 45:55You didn't know that's where this was going?
- 45:58No, I knew, but I didn't realize you were going to go with
- 46:00wired shut. I thought it was just like,
- 46:02let's talk a little less.
- 46:05Don't work out
- 46:06your mouth as much.
- 46:09Are you at all
- 46:10concerned that they'll be extra chatty
- 46:12when the wires come off because
- 46:13they have six weeks worth of shit to talk about.
- 46:17No, I'm going to buy them a whiteboard and a marker.
- 46:19But then you're actually spending more time listening to their thoughts
- 46:22because it takes longer for them to write them out.
- 46:26You're right.
- 46:27I'll give them my email address.
- 46:29They currently don't have it.
- 46:31Right, yeah.
- 46:32So you've got to relent or make a burner account or something
- 46:35and give them that.
- 46:36Yeah.
- 46:37Okay.
- 46:37I'm going to say, wait until you have three things to tell me,
- 46:39then put it in an email,
- 46:40and then delete two of the things that aren't as cool as the third thing.
- 46:43Yeah.
- 46:44So to wrap things up, I only want one thing at a time.
- 46:47Yeah.
- 46:48I love you.
- 46:51I think that would work at least for six weeks.
- 46:56That's what?
- 46:57We start all over again.
- 46:58Whoops.
- 47:00Oh, no.
- 47:00Your jaw's breaking again.
- 47:02Munchausen by Chisel.
- 47:06Well, I think this has been a very successful Dr. Truth.
- 47:10I don't get to say how I would stop.
- 47:12someone oh see you're just you're just so good i thought you had answered already
- 47:18so i would put a full page ad in a newspaper the newspaper that i knew my partner read
- 47:32that you news oh you nobody better break your jaw
- 47:37Um, and nobody gonna slow you down.
- 47:42Oh, uh, I would then, the ad would be world's greatest silent contest.
- 47:57Anyone open to the whole world, but prize $10 million.
- 48:05dollars but it's worldwide you're opening this up to the whole world
- 48:11yeah well because the great thing about this is there's no way to prove
- 48:15i think that there is because there's strict rules about contests it's
- 48:21it's not a real contest but the newspaper believes it is i'm going to in the tiniest
- 48:27little print possible there's going to be a the a little like asterisk at the bottom that says
- 48:33parody, this isn't real. So it covers me
- 48:35legal. What if your significant other
- 48:37sees that? They're going to be... No, no, no, no.
- 48:39I will break their reading glasses.
- 48:42And it'll just be
- 48:43huge. And plus, they are
- 48:45so excited. They want
- 48:47$10 million. I mean, who doesn't want $10
- 48:49million? But the problem is,
- 48:51it's like, okay, all of our
- 48:53submissions, it's going to go, and it lasts
- 48:55as long as there someone that still being silent And where does this information How do they know they know who still playing Well that the thing They just have to appeal to
- 49:07So every day they check in and they're like,
- 49:09is the contest still on?
- 49:12They're checking in with the newspaper
- 49:14and what Jenna didn't tell you
- 49:15and why she's able to get away with these rules
- 49:17is that she's doing all of this in an underdeveloped country
- 49:19in Europe, so she doesn't have to deal with
- 49:21the U.S. Gaming Commission.
- 49:23So she can get around those rules
- 49:24and she can just bribe the editor-in-chief of the local newspaper.
- 49:29Oh, that underdeveloped European country.
- 49:32Yeah, I don't know, like Kosovo.
- 49:35That's a country, I think.
- 49:37Yeah, it is.
- 49:37It sounds like Kokomo.
- 49:39But so regardless, it's everyday check-in.
- 49:44And then if they're like,
- 49:48no, the contest is like a number that you could call.
- 49:50The contest is still on.
- 49:52Oh, good.
- 49:52You don't have to talk to get the information.
- 49:54It's a recording.
- 49:55Yeah.
- 49:55You just, it's like when you call to get like the time.
- 49:57It'd be funny if when you first call, it's like, um, hello, are you calling about the
- 50:01contest?
- 50:01And then like a beat and it's like, ah, I almost got you.
- 50:05Listen after the beep.
- 50:07And then, so then it, you like every single day, oh, I guess you can't talk then.
- 50:13Ooh, sorry, but we really need that $10 million.
- 50:17What?
- 50:18Oh, no, no, don't tell me.
- 50:20Yeah.
- 50:21So then.
- 50:22But what about your relationship?
- 50:24because when they find out this isn't true,
- 50:25they're going to be totally inconsolable.
- 50:27They're never going to find out
- 50:28because the contest never ends.
- 50:32Contest never ends
- 50:33because there's still always one person.
- 50:36So like literally it could be like
- 50:38anyone that's playing,
- 50:39if they die,
- 50:40they think they died with the contest still going.
- 50:42Plus,
- 50:43how are they going to tell other people about this contest?
- 50:47They can't.
- 50:48They can't.
- 50:50Wow.
- 50:51Okay, that's interesting.
- 50:52Yeah.
- 50:52so anyway
- 50:54and the prize money was so high
- 50:57and yet I am the only one who
- 50:59willingly opted into this contest
- 51:01even though it was worldwide
- 51:03for 10 million dollars
- 51:04that's the thing is it's like we don't know who the other participants are
- 51:07yeah plus the small font
- 51:08yeah plus that small font
- 51:10so and I know this about my partner
- 51:13they don't read fine print
- 51:15that's fair
- 51:16so anyway
- 51:17that's how I do it
- 51:20now
- 51:23now it's been a very successful segment
- 51:25of Dr. Truth
- 51:26thank you Dr. Truth
- 51:27you're welks
- 51:28you're welcome
- 51:32aren't we Dr. Truth
- 51:36thank us
- 51:37thank you us
- 51:40thank you
- 51:41us
- 51:42alright
- 51:45it's time for our final segment
- 51:47the big
- 51:50question.
- 51:52The question is very big.
- 51:56Do you have one for me?
- 51:57No. I have one for you. Okay, good.
- 51:59Thank you. Thank you for messing with me, though.
- 52:01Of course. It's fun.
- 52:03Here's my question. Guess what?
- 52:05Guess what, Juby?
- 52:07You have just been selected
- 52:09to start a new company.
- 52:11Ah!
- 52:13Yeah, you have all this money. I'm done with this
- 52:15voice. You have all this money.
- 52:17And you have been tasked
- 52:19with starting a new restaurant franchise.
- 52:22Yeah.
- 52:23It can be fast food or sit down.
- 52:25You have to have a concept.
- 52:26What's special about it?
- 52:27And what do you serve?
- 52:30I don't need a whole menu.
- 52:31I just need an idea.
- 52:33And I need a name.
- 52:36And $1 million in seed capital to get it started.
- 52:40Well, as soon as I win this contest.
- 52:44The one you just lost?
- 52:45Oh, no.
- 52:46No.
- 52:48It's a terrible thing to have a podcast when you're in this contest.
- 52:51Contest.
- 52:56It would be called.
- 53:10It would be called.
- 53:13Grandma's.
- 53:15Grandma's.
- 53:16kitchen grandma's grandma's kitchen no just grandma's okay i added the kitchen i was thinking
- 53:22his grandma's enough grandma's kitchen yes um this is how it would work fuck is your word grandma
- 53:32you'll find out okay
- 53:37so it would essentially um you know how like like super nice restaurants like comb people
- 53:46social media and their ponies. Yes. And comb their ponies. Um, that they, they like try to
- 53:55find out things about them to like give like nice targeted targets. Like, yeah, yeah. This restaurant
- 54:02for every customer that came in would have a different menu for each customer.
- 54:11i love it it would only have one item and it would be whatever the most comforting dish from
- 54:22that person's childhood is they're not allowed to order anything else it's just like what's the
- 54:30meal that you love the most as a child and so everybody goes there and everybody gets a different
- 54:37experience because everyone has a different dish that although there's probably a lot of dishes
- 54:42that get repeated sure yeah you're never gonna know yeah um so it would be a comfort place uh that's
- 54:54uh yeah that's like well curated and then it would be so i know what you're thinking it would be
- 55:01This is a lot of legwork to do for a restaurant.
- 55:08But it'll be worth it because, I mean, everybody that comes in is going to have this like insane nostalgia and and overwhelming warmth.
- 55:21And this feeling of just like this was the most comforting, like soothing meal of my life.
- 55:29and then word gets around and then it's like a firestorm
- 55:33and then everyone suddenly wants to pay to be part of this.
- 55:40So it pays for itself.
- 55:41There's a little bit up front that it doesn't.
- 55:44Yeah, and when you're checking out,
- 55:46there could be a give us $1 extra just to help option.
- 55:51Yeah.
- 55:51Help grandmas grandmas.
- 55:55Yeah, so.
- 55:56I think it would take off personally.
- 56:02I would go because I want to see what my special.
- 56:04Right.
- 56:04You don't even know.
- 56:05That's the other thing is it's,
- 56:07it is,
- 56:08it's revealing to you because unless you've come right out and been like,
- 56:10this is the thing that I love the most from my childhood.
- 56:15It could be like a surprise.
- 56:16You'd be like,
- 56:17Oh,
- 56:17like I haven't actually specifically said,
- 56:20what are they going to give me?
- 56:21So I'm going to stop that.
- 56:22There's not even a menu.
- 56:23You just get served an item when you come in.
- 56:26this is a winner thank you grandma's kitchen grandma's kitchen and
- 56:34is kitchen my word no uh you'll be catching up real quick if that was the case i can't help
- 56:42myself but repeat it great job yeah thank you and i i really think yeah that everyone would want to
- 56:50go i would because like even if it's something like chinese buffet was your favorite meal as a
- 56:55child, there would be a little Chinese buffet set up just for you.
- 57:00But there is no, I don't want to say the K word again.
- 57:04There's none of that, but people are just finding out what you want and then running
- 57:08out to another restaurant and getting it and bringing it back.
- 57:11No, the thing is our staff is talented enough.
- 57:13And really, like I said, there's, there's probably the number of unique comfort dishes
- 57:19from someone's childhood are, there's not going to be that many.
- 57:22You're going to get a lot of Mac Mac and cheeses.
- 57:24Oh yeah.
- 57:25um my comfort meal was 10 soft tacos supremes from taco bell was there something nine not
- 57:33comforted 11 too many it was a 10 for 10 deal ah man yeah i said beg for it francis what's your
- 57:41secret special restaurant my secret special restaurant yeah mine is your grandma's grandma's
- 57:49kitchen i'm not saying that again just in case um i think it would be um
- 57:57a jungle nope i take it back it's not a jungle i don't know the pita persuasion
- 58:05or a rain foresty type look yeah that's what i was like nope that's already been done um my
- 58:13my solution to this is um it's it's movie themed and it changes
- 58:22um like quarterly right so like you go in and it's like everything's like die hard
- 58:29you know and like even some people are talking like die hard you know they get other tables
- 58:37not everyone's a customer but it's all like the scene then they'll change and then next
- 58:40quarters can be a totally different movie.
- 58:42And like, if it's Titanic, it's like, it's an
- 58:44emergency. Like you're being served, but like people
- 58:46are like running by and like life jackets and
- 58:48stuff and screaming,
- 58:50you know, and like maybe the floor is
- 58:52tilted a little. You know how those, they
- 58:54have those like restaurants where the floor
- 58:56goes in a circle for like 90 minutes. Maybe
- 58:58this is like tilting. And then by the time
- 59:00you, your stuff is moving, you have to
- 59:02leave.
- 59:05So it's just an immersive.
- 59:07There's a little to go
- 59:08bag at the downward slope.
- 59:10it's time for you to go slides yeah and that'd be fun hmm yeah i love a good themed restaurant
- 59:18oh if it was like the movie seven like your doggy bag could be a box yeah what's in the box
- 59:26you can't open it take it home
- 59:27weird ass theme i was gonna do schindler's list yeah hey see it's for when you're on a diet
- 59:39you don't need to eat that much
- 59:42yeah
- 59:43yeah I love a good theme
- 59:46yeah I was going to call it movie munch
- 59:47the word
- 59:54that word is
- 59:55is it reserved
- 59:57no it's just
- 59:59but I don't know
- 1:00:02I don't know if it's
- 1:00:04an appetizing word
- 1:00:05too teethy
- 1:00:07Hmm.
- 1:00:09Not tuby enough.
- 1:00:12Well, I think Grandma's Kitchen and your movie restaurant are...
- 1:00:20Don't do it like that.
- 1:00:22No, I'm doing it like that.
- 1:00:25What about Movie Mouth?
- 1:00:27Movie Mouth?
- 1:00:28Yeah.
- 1:00:30I don't know.
- 1:00:31What about Mouth Munch?
- 1:00:33What about Swallow Cinema?
- 1:00:37Well, you know, we'll figure it out.
- 1:00:38Yeah, we can workshop that.
- 1:00:40We'll hack it in post.
- 1:00:42Great.
- 1:00:43Well, I think we've successfully answered the big question.
- 1:00:49The big question.
- 1:00:51One final bit of business, Francis.
- 1:00:53What would that be, Joobs?
- 1:00:55Secret word time.
- 1:00:59I got to be honest with you.
- 1:01:00Okay.
- 1:01:00I was not doing a good job of monitoring your speech the way I should have been.
- 1:01:06Oh.
- 1:01:06I have a few guesses and I don't think I've gotten.
- 1:01:09Okay, well, I love to hear that.
- 1:01:10So go ahead.
- 1:01:11Is your word assaulted?
- 1:01:14No.
- 1:01:17Allergens?
- 1:01:19No.
- 1:01:22Concept?
- 1:01:23No.
- 1:01:25Okay, my last guess.
- 1:01:27Is it munch?
- 1:01:30No.
- 1:01:31Okay.
- 1:01:31For someone who didn't monitor my speech, you sure had a lot of guesses written down.
- 1:01:34No.
- 1:01:34my word are you ready yeah my word was anorexia oh
- 1:01:40that was a long one yeah and my decoy word was inconsolable
- 1:01:49what i'm what i'm trying to remember when wait when did you say anorexia i remember when you
- 1:01:56said you were eating yes that's right yes that's right oh i should have guessed guillotine um but
- 1:02:02No, that actually did occur to me.
- 1:02:03Wait a minute, wait a minute.
- 1:02:04Hearing the correct word, you think in retrospect.
- 1:02:08Well, no, that's what I'm talking about.
- 1:02:10I should have heard the word guillotine, and that should have been one of my guesses.
- 1:02:14Okay.
- 1:02:15Yes, okay.
- 1:02:16And then inconsolable.
- 1:02:18Yeah.
- 1:02:20When did you say that?
- 1:02:22When you were talking about the contest that you made up,
- 1:02:27and I said when they found out they'd be inconsolable.
- 1:02:29Yes, yeah.
- 1:02:31Oh, really?
- 1:02:32All right, my turn.
- 1:02:34Okay.
- 1:02:35I'm scared.
- 1:02:35Is it grandma?
- 1:02:38No.
- 1:02:39Oh, thank God.
- 1:02:40Is it kitchen?
- 1:02:40Nope.
- 1:02:41Thank goodness.
- 1:02:42All right, let's get to the meat.
- 1:02:44The first thing I wrote down was bleach.
- 1:02:47No, you can't drink bleach.
- 1:02:49That's not it.
- 1:02:49No.
- 1:02:51Let's just get yourself a big mug of bleach.
- 1:02:54Don't do it.
- 1:02:55Curl up next to your favorite speaker and listen to our podcast.
- 1:02:58Right now at grandma's kitchen.
- 1:03:00that was my favorite meal as a child
- 1:03:03yeah
- 1:03:03what if someone goes to grandma's kitchen
- 1:03:05and they just have like a little thing of toothpaste
- 1:03:08and that was their comfort meal
- 1:03:10was it you?
- 1:03:12no
- 1:03:12anonymously
- 1:03:15nope
- 1:03:16ketchup
- 1:03:18nope
- 1:03:19Indianapolis
- 1:03:22no
- 1:03:23legwork
- 1:03:25nope
- 1:03:26moat
- 1:03:30Nope.
- 1:03:31These are all regular ideas that I had.
- 1:03:33Drawbridge.
- 1:03:34Nope.
- 1:03:37Firestorm.
- 1:03:39That was my decoy word.
- 1:03:41You had a bunch.
- 1:03:43Yeah, you flew too close to the sun, my friend.
- 1:03:45Got burned.
- 1:03:46Which I'm pretty sure legwork was a secret word on a prior episode.
- 1:03:50Was it?
- 1:03:50I think so.
- 1:03:52Damn it.
- 1:03:53All right, what was your word?
- 1:03:54My word was generating.
- 1:03:56and you know my decoy word was firestorm you know that because you guessed it oh yeah you got a
- 1:04:05point i got a point one point for jubes oh yeah well i still am losing but i need to stop that
- 1:04:13you're gonna win um yeah well uh all in all i feel pretty good about that i saw you write down
- 1:04:23Firestorm after I said it. I was like, thank God.
- 1:04:25I hope he doesn't say, I think this is your decoy.
- 1:04:29I'm feeling pretty good right now.
- 1:04:32Whatever.
- 1:04:33No contest
- 1:04:34for $10 million from me.
- 1:04:37I'm going to speak all I want.
- 1:04:39Me too.
- 1:04:40Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow.
- 1:04:42Well.
- 1:04:43That's why I chose to speak, I guess.
- 1:04:45Thank you for listening.
- 1:04:47Thank you.
- 1:04:48Go to veryfinefriends.com if you want to see the
- 1:04:51point total.
- 1:04:53And follow us on social media at Very Fine Friends.
- 1:04:58Joe, did you find legwork in the past paperwork?
- 1:05:01That was only from episode 10.
- 1:05:03I'm pretty sure it was in an early episode.
- 1:05:05An earlier episode? Okay.
- 1:05:05I think it was like six or seven.
- 1:05:07Bye, everyone.
- 1:05:09Bye.
- 1:05:09Bye.
