  Louis, MO. I am also a lifelong Democrat, a

  mom of five boys, three of whom were adopted out of the foster
• 0:13
  care system, and I'm a lesbian. I am also the public
• 0:17
  whistleblower from inside a pediatric gender center.
• 0:21
  I participated in transitioning nearly 1500 unique patients who
• 0:25
  ranged in age from 3 to 26 over almost five years.
• 0:31
  I was once a true believer in pediatric gender medicine.
• 0:34
  Now I understand. I participated in an industry
• 0:37
  that was based on fraud deception and in layman's terms,
• 0:41
  we were running a racket. Patients with significant
• 0:44
  comorbidities were treated using unethical and deceptive informed
• 0:48
  consent practices. They were never properly
• 0:50
  assessed, informed of their condition, or given a diagnosis.
• 0:55
  A diagnosis itself is the first required step for any consent to
• 0:59
  be valid and not fraudulent. These were also vulnerable
• 1:03
  patients who required specific special safeguards.
• 1:07
  First, they were minor patients and should have been provided
• 1:10
  all of the safeguarding protections we would want for
• 1:13
  all children. Second, they had significantly
• 1:16
  presenting comorbidities, often falling within the definition of
• 1:20
  a stigmatizing, complex medical disease, some even meeting the
• 1:24
  criteria for a legal medical disability.

  We were harming disabled children.
• 1:31
  These comorbidities include but are not limited to, autism
• 1:35
  spectrum disorders, anxiety, depression, borderline
• 1:38
  personality disorders, eating disorders, self harming
• 1:41
  behaviors, somatization disorders, learning
• 1:45
  disabilities, ADHD, and significant trauma histories.
• 1:49
  Third, many of the presenting patients before the Social
• 1:53
  Contagion cohort would eventually, if not medically
• 1:56
  treated, become homosexuals like me.
• 2:00
  That is, they will identify as adults, as gay, lesbian, or
• 2:02
  bisexual. I might hold a Masters of
• 2:06
  Science and clinical research. That is not a requirement to
• 2:09
  understand the basic concept of medical diagnostics.
• 2:13
  Parents and the public have been deceived into believing that
• 2:17
  these assessments are diagnostic, that they're
• 2:20
  consistent, that they're comprehensive, and that no child
• 2:23
  is ever receiving treatment without one.
• 2:26
  If the assessment met the criteria of consistent,
• 2:29
  comprehensive, and diagnostic, the diagnostic provider should
• 2:34
  be able to easily produce their assessment tools, give them to
• 2:38
  the FTC to be analyzed, and they should also be universally
• 2:42
  consistent across all of our states.

  This has never happened and they have not shared any data to show
• 2:49
  what percentage of those presented are being told no
• 2:53
  because this is not happening. I personally witnessed the
• 2:57
  consequences of prescribing these treatments without proper
• 3:00
  informed consent. One of my patients after her
• 3:03
  radical bilateral mastectomy at 19, called begging for her
• 3:08
  breasts to be put back on. This harm has not been contained
• 3:12
  to children or minors. Another patient's intellectual
• 3:16
  function was so impaired that they could not identify to me
• 3:20
  where they lived or explained what type of identification they
• 3:24
  possessed. Multiple staff members expressed
• 3:27
  concern about their ability to consent to any medical
• 3:29
  procedure. Despite these and similar red
• 3:32
  flags with many patients, this patient even stated that they
• 3:36
  desired to have biological children, yet they were
• 3:39
  prescribed a treatment that would ultimately render them
• 3:42
  sterile for life. We as clinicians in the gender
• 3:45
  industry openly stated quote, it does not matter if patients even
• 3:49
  met the diagnostic criteria. We did not care if patients even
• 3:53
  had, quote, gender dysphoria. We did not care.
• 3:56
  If a patient said they were trans, then they were trans.

  Parents were unaware that patients were self diagnosing,
• 4:04
  that clinicians had completely abandoned the diagnostic process
• 4:07
  entirely. Parents who didn't agree with
• 4:10
  our lives were isolated, abandoned by our centers.

  We tore married parents apart, and we tore children apart from
• 4:16
  caring parents who told us no. Imagine in a different field if
• 4:22
  children went in self declaring that they had a malignant
• 4:26
  cancer, if they went to an oncologist and that oncologist
• 4:31
  without labs or biopsies, if that child demanded to go
• 4:35
  through chemotherapy and surgery, that the clinicians
• 4:38
  would comply. And then the clinicians would
• 4:41
  then bill our insurance for those procedures, medical
• 4:45
  visits, making money for the hospitals and themselves based
• 4:48
  on this deception. This is precisely what we were
• 4:51
  doing in the Gender Center. And then we expanded this
• 4:54
  deception into a racket. We created specific list of
• 4:58
  affirming therapists who would do exactly what we wanted.

  A therapist could only get on that list if they would comply.
• 5:05
  We needed a letter for insurance.
• 5:07
  So guess what we did, We wrote it, we made it fill in the
• 5:10
  blank, we pre drafted it. And I know this because I am the
• 5:14
  one who not only created this letter, but I emailed it out to
• 5:17
  all of those same therapist for hundreds of our patients.

  I wish I could say to you that I became a whistleblower the first
• 5:25
  time I heard the nurse say, but Doctor Lewis, we are committing
• 5:30
  insurance fraud because that was said and I didn't.
• 5:35
  I wish I spoke up sooner. The final death blow to my
• 5:39
  ethical medical soul. And what finally led me to speak
• 5:43
  up is that we significantly harmed our patients.
• 5:47
  We didn't just deceive them or their parents.
• 5:49
  I hurt children. And I said to that same doctor,
• 5:53
  Chris Lewis, Chris, we are harming patients.

  And he said, I know, but what do you want me to do about it?
• 5:59
  I hurt the very children I was employed to protect.

  Saint Louis Children's Hospital mission statement is simple.

  Saint Louis Children's Hospital will do what is right for
• 6:11
  children. We did not, and all of us must
• 6:15
  now reckon with what we have collectively done.
