Transcript
- 0:00Katie: In this episode, you will discover why rushing into your next IUI or IVF round could be the very thing hurting your chances of getting pregnant.
- 0:11Welcome to the Finally Get Pregnant Naturally podcast, the podcast helping women identify the real reasons you haven't conceived or stayed pregnant so you and your partner can finally grow the family of your dreams.
- 0:25I'm your host, Dr.
- 0:26Katie Wood.
- 0:27Let's dive in, shall we?
- 0:30Katie: Three things you'll gain from today's episode: why the urgency to jump into the next round is coming from fear, not from actually improving outcomes, what recovery actually does for your hormones, your lining, and your nervous system between cycles
- 0:49Katie: or after a loss, and a simple practice to give yourself permission to pause without feeling like you're losing time.
- 0:59Katie: So, I've seen it time and time again, the urgency to jump right back into another cycle, another assisted fertility cycle.
- 1:15Katie: When a cycle doesn't work or after a loss, there is this almost immediate pull or sense of urgency to get right back into it.
- 1:27Katie: Schedule the next round.
- 1:28Katie: Start the next protocol.
- 1:30Katie: Do not waste a single moment.
- 1:34Katie: And I understand that pull completely, especially if you're the kind of woman who has gotten everywhere in life by doing more, trying harder, and never slowing down.
- 1:46Katie: For you, action is safety.
- 1:49Katie: Stillness feels like losing, like failure.
- 1:54Katie: So when something is not working, your instinct is to push harder, move faster, add more.
- 2:01Katie: It's the exact instinct that has served you everywhere else in your life, and it's the one that is quietly working against you here.
- 2:11Katie: And this is not only about jumping back in after a round that did not work.
- 2:15Katie: For so many of you, the urgency actually showed up at the very beginning, rushing to start IUI or IVF as the first real move because it finally feels like doing something or you felt like you were pushed into
- 2:31Katie: a corner and you had no other choice So you had to escalate to intervention.
- 2:37Katie: But escalating to intervention before anyone has actually investigated why conception has not happened yet is its own kind of rushing.
- 2:48Katie: You can skip ahead to the most aggressive option and still have never answered the most basic question.
- 2:56Katie: What is actually in the way of us getting and staying pregnant anyway?
- 3:02Katie: Think of it like planting a seed.
- 3:04Katie: You can have the most perfect, highest quality seed in the world, but if you plant it in soil full of rocks and weeds, it does not have a chance to take root and grow.
- 3:18Katie: No matter how good the seed is, the soil was never cleared for it.
- 3:23Katie: It was never prepped.
- 3:25Katie: Your terrain is that soil, and rushing to plant before you have cleared the rocks and the weeds is not giving that seed its best shot.
- 3:37Katie: It's just hoping it finds its way around everything that's standing in the way.
- 3:42Katie: But I want you to hear this gently.
- 3:44Katie: That urgency is coming from fear.
- 3:48Katie: It is not coming from your body.
- 3:51Katie: Your body after a stimulated cycle, after a retrieval, after a transfer, after a loss, is not asking you to go faster.
- 4:01Katie: It is asking you to let it come back to baseline.
- 4:06Katie: And those are two very different voices.
- 4:10Katie: One is the fear of falling behind.
- 4:14Katie: The other is the quiet, steady wisdom of a body that knows what it needs.
- 4:19Katie: We've spent so long listening to the first one, the voice of fear, that the second one is just so easy to miss or push down.
- 4:30Katie: So let's talk about what recovery actually does.
- 4:34Katie: Recovery is not doing nothing.
- 4:37Katie: After a medicated cycle, your hormones have been pushed to places they do not naturally go, and they need time to recalibrate.
- 4:46Katie: Your lining needs time to rebuild.
- 4:49Katie: After a loss, your body is completing a profound physiological process, and your nervous system is carrying real grief.
- 4:58Katie: Rushing back in on top of an unrecovered system means stacking another demand onto a body that has not been given the chance to return to a place of strength.
- 5:10Katie: And here is the part that matters most for your odds and the part that's the hardest for you to hear.
- 5:18Katie: The recovery window is exactly when the terrain work happens.
- 5:23Katie: It's when inflammation settles, when your nervous system comes out of threat and cortisol comes down, which can allow your progesterone to come back up.
- 5:33Katie: For the woman- When your eggs for the next 90 days are developing in a calmer, more nourished environment.
- 5:41Katie: For the woman who measures everything by output, this is the reframe that changes it.
- 5:48Katie: Resting is not the absence of progress.
- 5:51Katie: For your fertility, it often is the progress.
- 5:56Katie: Recovery is the work.
- 5:59Katie: It is just a kind of work that you were never taught to think is actually being productive.
- 6:06Katie: And if you haven't started treatment yet, the same principle applies.
- 6:10Katie: The weeks or months before you escalate are not time to rush through.
- 6:16Katie: They're a window to prepare your terrain So that if you do move to IUI or IVF, you are walking in with a body that has been investigated and supported rather than one that is carrying unaddressed root causes into
- 6:32Katie: an expensive, demanding process.
- 6:35Katie: Here's your fertility prescription this week.
- 6:39Katie: If you're in between rounds right now, or recovering from a loss, or standing at the very start trying to decide whether to escalate to fertility treatments or not, I want you to try something first.
- 6:54Katie: Instead of asking yourself, "How fast can I get in?"
- 6:59Katie: Ask your body a different question.
- 7:01Katie: Put your hand on your heart and ask, "What do you need from me before we begin or before we go again?"
- 7:11Katie: And then actually listen.
- 7:13Katie: And give yourself time and space.
- 7:15Katie: If it doesn't happen on the first try, make this a daily ritual.
- 7:21Katie: I highly recommend starting your day with this.
- 7:24Katie: And you really want to cultivate the space to have the answers come in, because they will come in.
- 7:31Katie: You just need to be able to hear them and notice them.
- 7:34Katie: So have some stillness for yourself.
- 7:37Katie: Do some breathing beforehand.
- 7:41Katie: Ground into your body.
- 7:43Katie: Maybe the answer that comes through is rest.
- 7:46Katie: Maybe it's a real conversation with your partner about like a check-in.
- 7:50Katie: How are you feeling?
- 7:51Katie: How is he feeling?
- 7:53Katie: Maybe it's a few months of nourishing your body and calming your system before the next attempt.
- 7:59Katie: Maybe it's finally getting the investigation you never had so that the next round is different from the last.
- 8:09Katie: Whatever it is, let the answer come from your body, your intuition, not from fear, not from the ego.
- 8:18Katie: Write it down and give yourself permission to honor it.
- 8:22Katie: Pausing to recover is not quitting, and it is not falling behind.
- 8:29Katie: It is refusing to keep pouring yourself into an empty cup and choosing to fill it first.
- 8:36Katie: Your future pregnancy does not need you depleted and rushing.
- 8:40Katie: It needs you resourced and ready.
- 8:43Katie: And if your body is asking you to slow down and actually look before your next round, start here.
- 8:51Katie: I created a free quiz called The Ultimate Fertility Blueprint that scores your fertility across nine key areas and shows you exactly where to focus first.
- 9:02Katie: No more guessing, just a clear picture of where your body needs support.
- 9:07Katie: It's free, the link is in the show notes, and it's the perfect first step for exactly this moment.
- 9:15Katie: So let's recap this episode.
- 9:18Katie: Your fertility prescription this week is to slow down, take some quiet moments for yourself, hand on heart, and ask yourself, ask your body, "What do you need from me before we go again?"
- 9:34Katie: Because so far the urgency that you've been feeling is from fear.
- 9:40Katie: But the true answer is going to be coming from your body Pausing to recover is not falling behind.
- 9:47Katie: It is how you come back ready.
- 9:50Katie: It's your power move.
- 9:52Katie: It's your power play.
