- 0:03Speaker 1: Smell us Now, lady, Welcome to meat Eater Trivia mea podcast.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Welcome to meat Eater Radio Live. It's eleven am Mountain
- 0:30Speaker 2: Time on August twenty ninth and word live from Meat
- 0:33Speaker 2: Eater HQ and Bozeman, Montana. I'm your host, Spencer Newhart,
- 0:37Speaker 2: joined by Giannis Putellis and Randa Williams. On today's show,
- 0:40Speaker 2: we're talking to doctor Seth walk about using donkeys for
- 0:44Speaker 2: backcountry hunting. Then we'll discuss Liam Neeson's twenty eleven thriller
- 0:49Speaker 2: The Gray for Meat Eater's movie Club. After that, we'll
- 0:52Speaker 2: give Seth Morris one minute to catch a fish from
- 0:55Speaker 2: the meat Eater pond, followed by a chettiquette about having
- 0:58Speaker 2: babies and killing elk. Then we'll call Tyler Johnson, the
- 1:02Speaker 2: man who accidentally shot himself during a grizzly attack. And
- 1:05Speaker 2: finally we'll discuss the top three states we'd like to
- 1:09Speaker 2: own a hunting property in. Yanni Randall, Welcome boys. It
- 1:13Speaker 2: felt like fall was in the air this morning.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Feels good. Snow on the mountains yesterday.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Oh, is it the first time this year?
- 1:21Speaker 3: Yeah? First time since probably May?
- 1:23Speaker 2: First time?
- 1:23Speaker 1: Okay you saw snow?
- 1:25Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:25Speaker 3: Crazy.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Oh that's good to hear.
- 1:27Speaker 5: It melt it off by the afternoon, but boy, it
- 1:29Speaker 5: was an encouraging sign.
- 1:31Speaker 1: It was chilly enough that when I was getting my
- 1:33Speaker 1: morning arrows in, I had to put on a hoodie.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh oh well, black hoodie Yanni, which I'm told is
- 1:39Speaker 2: available in the First Light store next week. I feel
- 1:42Speaker 2: like we've been begging First Light to make black stuff
- 1:45Speaker 2: for years and they're doing it next week, and egg
- 1:49Speaker 2: on our face. All three of us wore the black
- 1:52Speaker 2: First Light thing today.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Oh that's because there was an email that said, please
- 1:55Speaker 1: please tease the black and this is what we're doing,
- 1:58Speaker 1: like to wear black.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I feel like I'm Lawrence Fishburn and the Matrix.
- 2:02Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, when all three of you are wearing it,
- 2:04Speaker 6: it's not so much to tease. It's like kind of
- 2:06Speaker 6: a slap in the face.
- 2:08Speaker 7: Yea.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Now, in just a minute, we're gonna be going to
- 2:11Speaker 2: doctor Walk. But Johannis tell us what we should know
- 2:13Speaker 2: about doctor Seth Walk before we get him on the phone.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Sure, Seth and I actually met in a suburban driving
- 2:20Speaker 1: up to the start of the bridger Ridge Run three
- 2:23Speaker 1: years ago, when Maggie drove us up there to the start,
- 2:26Speaker 1: it's a long drive all the way up to Fairy
- 2:29Speaker 1: Lake there and uh so we start being the suburban,
- 2:32Speaker 1: there's like eight people crammed in there chit chat, and
- 2:34Speaker 1: some dude in the back He's like, yeah, man, I
- 2:36Speaker 1: hunt the backcountry with donkeys and those things are badass
- 2:39Speaker 1: and I'll put them up against anyone stock you know.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I was like, what now? And so anyways, we've become
- 2:47Speaker 1: friends in the past three years, and uh I sort
- 2:50Speaker 1: of invited myself on a backcountry elk hunt where we
- 2:53Speaker 1: could uh sort of film and uh see it what's
- 2:59Speaker 1: all about hunting with donkeys? And uh I Also one
- 3:04Speaker 1: more thing I'm gonna tell you about Seth because he's
- 3:05Speaker 1: too humble to tell you about this. He's had a
- 3:08Speaker 1: program deal with himself. He wanted to kill an elk
- 3:13Speaker 1: ten years in a row, all on public land in
- 3:16Speaker 1: Montana with his bow and never hunt the same spot
- 3:19Speaker 1: more than three times in a row. Wow, and doing
- 3:22Speaker 1: it on hard mode. He's he's done it now eleven
- 3:25Speaker 1: years in a row.
- 3:26Speaker 6: Dang.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah, So, like I said, I'm like, that's probably
- 3:30Speaker 1: a good guy to know. So anyways, let's talk. Let's
- 3:32Speaker 1: let's talk to Seth and is.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, where do you go from there? After eleven years
- 3:36Speaker 2: in a row? Now, doctor Seth, welcome to the show.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Tell us where you're standing today.
- 3:43Speaker 4: I guys, thanks for having me. Yeah, I'm outside of
- 3:46Speaker 4: outside of.
- 3:47Speaker 8: Bozeman at my friends Frank and Aaron's ranch and they're
- 3:52Speaker 8: they pasture my my donkeys for me in the summer.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Now the donkeys thing, tell me, like why donkeys over
- 4:01Speaker 2: mules or horses or lamas.
- 4:05Speaker 8: Uh yeah, that's a great question. I think the first
- 4:09Speaker 8: thing was I got a pretty sweet deal in the
- 4:12Speaker 8: first two that I got. They're pretty cool compared to horses,
- 4:17Speaker 8: so uh yeah, we were doing things on a shoe
- 4:19Speaker 8: string budget and anyway, I ended up with four donkeys
- 4:23Speaker 8: for like two hundred bucks. So you can't be those
- 4:28Speaker 8: but looking at us, think like how they perform? Man,
- 4:32Speaker 8: they are just they are hearty animals. They can eat
- 4:35Speaker 8: almost anything and survive. They're real resistant to diseases that
- 4:40Speaker 8: horses get. And uh yeah, they can carry up to
- 4:43Speaker 8: twenty five percent of their body weight, where horses are
- 4:47Speaker 8: kind of in the teens sound pounds.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Twenty means what for these donkeys that you have?
- 4:54Speaker 8: So like a five hundred pound donkey. That's one hundred
- 4:57Speaker 8: pounds on your back, and that's that's.
- 4:59Speaker 4: A safe Carrie.
- 5:01Speaker 8: There was a study out in a journal that I
- 5:04Speaker 8: read when they looked at donkeys over in country where
- 5:09Speaker 8: donkeys are used traditionally, like Pakistan, and almost ninety percent
- 5:13Speaker 8: of those donkeys were packing like fifty percent.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Of their body weight.
- 5:17Speaker 8: So once these animals get conditioned and they're used to
- 5:21Speaker 8: the country, well, they can carry a house.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And you're prepping these donkeys today for the upcoming haunt
- 5:28Speaker 2: with Giannis. What does that mean though? What is prepping
- 5:30Speaker 2: a donkey weeks in advance even look like?
- 5:33Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean their training really starts early, you know,
- 5:36Speaker 8: whenever the weather breaks. And we've been going on walks
- 5:38Speaker 8: just around the pasture, making sure everybody knows each other.
- 5:42Speaker 4: We just picked up our fourth in.
- 5:45Speaker 8: May, so I was really concerned about how she was
- 5:48Speaker 8: going to walk, where in the pack string she was
- 5:50Speaker 8: going to feel comfortable. We have a young one, she's
- 5:54Speaker 8: only two years old and she's just a donkey in training,
- 5:58Speaker 8: So just figuring it all out so that happens, you know,
- 6:01Speaker 8: for weeks, but today, you know, I'm just gonna go
- 6:05Speaker 8: back over their hooves. Make sure that their hooves are
- 6:07Speaker 8: nice and trim, there's no cracks, and then do a
- 6:10Speaker 8: little saddle work. Make sure the leather's good. We did
- 6:14Speaker 8: lose a one of our straps on the saddle. I'll
- 6:19Speaker 8: show you guys here in a minute on our trip,
- 6:22Speaker 8: so I'm going.
- 6:22Speaker 4: To replace that.
- 6:23Speaker 8: Yeah, put a little more cushion on the paths where
- 6:26Speaker 8: they need. Just make sure they're comfortable. If they're comfortable, man,
- 6:29Speaker 8: they'll work all day for you.
- 6:31Speaker 1: All right. Introduce us to the to the girls, and
- 6:34Speaker 1: then show us show us what you're doing with the
- 6:37Speaker 1: uh with the saddle.
- 6:40Speaker 4: All right, let me change this around. Can y'all see that?
- 6:44Speaker 3: Yep?
- 6:45Speaker 4: All right?
- 6:47Speaker 8: So yeah, these are the girls. They they usually pasture
- 6:53Speaker 8: down down yonder over there, and when I come in
- 6:56Speaker 8: with some treats, they come running up here and I
- 6:59Speaker 8: get them haldered up.
- 7:00Speaker 4: And put them on the fence here.
- 7:03Speaker 8: This galo is our first she's her name's Dottie, and
- 7:07Speaker 8: she's just a lover.
- 7:09Speaker 4: She's about fifteen.
- 7:10Speaker 8: Years old, and yeah, she's a gentle giant. This is
- 7:16Speaker 8: her daughter, just born two years two years ago in August.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Her name's Delta Donn. After the Tanna Tucker song.
- 7:26Speaker 8: She came from, like I said, Dottie is her mom,
- 7:31Speaker 8: and she came from a pretty big jack. So we
- 7:34Speaker 8: were hoping to get a little bit more size. But
- 7:37Speaker 8: she's gonna end up looking like just like her mom,
- 7:39Speaker 8: which is fine.
- 7:41Speaker 1: On the next On the next one, Seth, get us
- 7:44Speaker 1: a close up of Denver's face and the ears. Yeah,
- 7:48Speaker 1: is that really?
- 7:48Speaker 9: That?
- 7:48Speaker 1: Really? That really makes a donkey?
- 7:51Speaker 4: You can't beat easy.
- 7:54Speaker 8: Her mug is just so cute, very cute.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Indeed.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Yeah, how long is a donkey's ear? I mean those
- 8:04Speaker 1: things have got to be ten inches, not quite a
- 8:07Speaker 1: foot right, Yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Have some technical difficulties on cell phone signals.
- 8:17Speaker 2: I think we are losing, doctor Seth, but I feel satisfied.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I learned a lot about donkeys there. I was gonna
- 8:23Speaker 2: hit him with some trivia before we went. I was
- 8:25Speaker 2: going to ask him what a group of donkeys is called?
- 8:27Speaker 2: So I'll ask you two instead. Do you know what
- 8:30Speaker 2: a group of donkeys is called? No, there are four
- 8:32Speaker 2: acceptable terms. You gotta guess a group of donkeys group
- 8:36Speaker 2: of donkeys. We were looking at a whole collection of
- 8:39Speaker 2: donkeys there, and I was wondering what that was calling so.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I googled my guest will be heard heard is one
- 8:45Speaker 1: of the four.
- 8:45Speaker 6: This looks like sets the back has got a stronger signal.
- 8:48Speaker 6: We can try to bring it back in for a
- 8:49Speaker 6: little bit longer.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Sor right, let's let I want to see what he's
- 8:51Speaker 1: doing with those saddles. All right, seth, we got you again?
- 8:55Speaker 4: Oh sorry about that?
- 8:58Speaker 8: Yeah, which guys said, do you want to hear some
- 9:01Speaker 8: about the saddles?
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yeah, well just show us what's going. Yeah, are you
- 9:07Speaker 1: just making adjustments? Yeah?
- 9:09Speaker 8: So one thing that I look for, say, with this
- 9:12Speaker 8: britch and in the back here is how it's riding
- 9:15Speaker 8: on the animal.
- 9:16Speaker 4: And hopefully you can see.
- 9:18Speaker 8: Here that her her hair's getting a little rubbed off here.
- 9:21Speaker 8: It's not breaking the skin or anything, but you can
- 9:23Speaker 8: imagine that going downhill, this is really putting pressure on
- 9:28Speaker 8: her leg. And so what I'm gonna do is try
- 9:33Speaker 8: to make that a little more comfortable. I have this
- 9:36Speaker 8: nice I'm going to cut some strips on that just
- 9:40Speaker 8: glued on that strap, and see if I can't make
- 9:44Speaker 8: that a little more comfortable.
- 9:45Speaker 4: For we lost a lot ago for two reasons.
- 9:55Speaker 8: Number one, as you can tell here, they really enjoy
- 9:59Speaker 8: chewing on leather, so if you're not careful, they'll just
- 10:01Speaker 8: chew it off.
- 10:02Speaker 1: And for those of you that don't know, is the
- 10:05Speaker 1: one that goes under their belly, right.
- 10:09Speaker 8: Yep, yeah, that's right. But the other reason why this
- 10:12Speaker 8: one isn't long enough anymore?
- 10:13Speaker 4: I don't know if you can see this right here?
- 10:16Speaker 4: This is pudge. That's donkey page.
- 10:18Speaker 8: She was just eating a lot of hay this year,
- 10:21Speaker 8: so she grew a little bit in the belly. So
- 10:23Speaker 8: we'll fix that up. I have another ladder go here
- 10:26Speaker 8: on the fence. I can just use that to replace it,
- 10:30Speaker 8: and then.
- 10:34Speaker 2: We're gonna get you out of here in just a second.
- 10:35Speaker 2: We got one last question though, before you go. Do
- 10:38Speaker 2: you know what a group of donkeys is called? You
- 10:39Speaker 2: got a whole fleet of them there. They're not called
- 10:41Speaker 2: a fleet. But do you know what a group of
- 10:43Speaker 2: donkeys is called?
- 10:44Speaker 4: Oh? Boy, I call him a herd, but I don't know.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, herd is one of the four acceptable terms.
- 10:49Speaker 2: The other are cowfel pace, and drove, So that one's
- 10:53Speaker 2: for free. Set you go ahead and use that. You'll
- 10:56Speaker 2: sound like a professional donkey man when you call them
- 10:58Speaker 2: a drove or a car. Awful of donkeys, Doctor Walk,
- 11:02Speaker 2: thanks for joining us. Keep Youannie safe in the back country,
- 11:05Speaker 2: and good luck on that out well.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Hopefully we'll be putting some elk meat on their backs
- 11:09Speaker 1: here in about nine days.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Yes, sir, I look forward to it, all right.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Thanks sat Thank.
- 11:14Speaker 2: You, Joanna. You're gonna kill an elk when you're out there,
- 11:17Speaker 2: you think? Oh yeah, and is this a spot that
- 11:19Speaker 2: he has been to in his in years?
- 11:22Speaker 1: Okay, brand new new country. But we scouted it a
- 11:25Speaker 1: little bit this past weekend and uh we had saw
- 11:29Speaker 1: some good sign.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Okay, and maybe maybe we'll get a report on a
- 11:32Speaker 2: future med Eater radio on how that one goes down.
- 11:36Speaker 1: That could be we have cell service in there.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Okay, good, No, Now, the next thing we're doing is
- 11:41Speaker 2: a segment that I've been looking forward to all week,
- 11:44Speaker 2: and that's Meat Eater Movie Club.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Oh boy, Oh that's nice, Phil, thank you, thank you
- 11:55Speaker 5: for that. Of course, today we will be discussing Joe
- 12:01Speaker 5: Carnahan's twenty eleven film The Gray, a harrowing tale of
- 12:05Speaker 5: survival set against the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness. Liam Neeson stars
- 12:09Speaker 5: as John Otway, who is among a group of oil
- 12:12Speaker 5: field workers stranded after a plane crash. In addition to
- 12:15Speaker 5: the brutal cold and relentless wind, the men must also
- 12:18Speaker 5: contend with a pack of ferocious wolves hell bent on
- 12:21Speaker 5: killing each and every one of them. On the surface,
- 12:23Speaker 5: the Gray appears to be a classic survival thriller of
- 12:26Speaker 5: the man versus nature variety. It quickly transforms, however, into
- 12:30Speaker 5: a profound meditation on life, death, faith, and the resilience
- 12:34Speaker 5: of the human spirit. The bleak, snow covered setting serves
- 12:38Speaker 5: as both a menacing danger to the craft survivors as
- 12:40Speaker 5: well as a metaphorical canvas for their internal struggles.
- 12:44Speaker 3: And I'll wrap up here quickly.
- 12:45Speaker 5: Nissan delivers a powerful performance as Otway, a hardened wolf
- 12:49Speaker 5: hunter grappling with his tragic past while shepherding the other
- 12:52Speaker 5: men in their flight excuse me, in their fight to endure.
- 12:56Speaker 5: The film's unflinching examination of profound themes and its philosophical
- 13:00Speaker 5: undertones elevated above the typical blockbuster fair, inviting viewers to
- 13:05Speaker 5: contemplate their own finite existence, the meaninglessness of human suffering,
- 13:10Speaker 5: and what it truly means to live in the face
- 13:12Speaker 5: of inevitable death.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Wow, now what I would like our listeners to know
- 13:16Speaker 2: who aren't watching this is that Randall wrote that all
- 13:19Speaker 2: out on a legal pad, and he has what appears
- 13:22Speaker 2: to be about six pages of notes for our movie
- 13:26Speaker 2: club discussion on the Gray.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Oh yes, Spencer and I have I have a factoid
- 13:32Speaker 5: here that I asked you guys not to research this
- 13:35Speaker 5: film in advance of our conversation. So according to newspaper
- 13:39Speaker 5: newspaper reports that were also published in Outdoor Life, the
- 13:43Speaker 5: movie's crew obtained four wolf carcasses in advance of production
- 13:47Speaker 5: from a trapper named Dick mcdeermod, a local of Smithers, BC,
- 13:51Speaker 5: where the movie was filmed. Two of the dead wolves
- 13:53Speaker 5: were used as props and two were eaten by the
- 13:56Speaker 5: cast as part of a pre shoot bonding experience.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Wow, no shit, yep ye.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Do you think it worked? Did that feel like a
- 14:03Speaker 2: bonded cast that you were watching?
- 14:05Speaker 5: So the the reports that I saw, they were given
- 14:09Speaker 5: a choice of wolf stew or some sort of meat
- 14:12Speaker 5: on the bone, and nearly everyone vomited, except for Liam Neeson.
- 14:17Speaker 3: He said he went back for seconds of the stew.
- 14:19Speaker 2: It could not have been that bad to be worthy
- 14:22Speaker 2: of vomiting.
- 14:22Speaker 5: As they say in the film, Spencer, it tastes like
- 14:25Speaker 5: dog shit.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Randall's they vomited after eating it, yes, yes, as opposed
- 14:32Speaker 1: to before a reaction. They're like, oh.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Yeah, Now Randall is going to lead the movie club
- 14:39Speaker 2: discussion for today, so he just gave us the plot.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Where do we go to from here?
- 14:43Speaker 5: I would be curious just for your initial reactions, and Phil,
- 14:45Speaker 5: please free to feel free to chime in.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I know that you also have screened this, so just thoughts.
- 14:52Speaker 2: My thoughts. I had low expectations and it barely cleared them.
- 14:55Speaker 2: You know, this is not like a movie that I
- 14:57Speaker 2: need to see again. I would say those are my
- 14:59Speaker 2: initial quick thing.
- 15:00Speaker 6: YEP.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I can wrap it up with this one sentence right here.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Jennifer was pissed that she had to watch it.
- 15:06Speaker 2: You know what, I could have had the same sentence,
- 15:08Speaker 2: but just swap out Jennifer for Shelby. She wandered in
- 15:11Speaker 2: the room a few times, and she's like, this movie's
- 15:14Speaker 2: not for me.
- 15:15Speaker 1: She actually was started being like, hold on, has this
- 15:18Speaker 1: guy made any good movies? Are all his.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Movies Schindler's List? I have a note here from Sydney.
- 15:25Speaker 5: She said, Are we sure this movie isn't just about
- 15:28Speaker 5: Liam Neeson collecting wallets.
- 15:30Speaker 6: I have the exact same note. One of the last
- 15:33Speaker 6: things I wrote was, let's see a man discovers he
- 15:37Speaker 6: has a wallet collecting fetish.
- 15:40Speaker 1: That's good, that's.
- 15:41Speaker 5: Good, all right, So quickly, I'm curious from the perspective
- 15:45Speaker 5: to put a mediator spin on this, from the perspective
- 15:48Speaker 5: of an experienced hunter or angler, was there any part
- 15:51Speaker 5: of this film that was authentic to you? Authentic?
- 15:57Speaker 2: Four things here that I thought they got right. The
- 16:00Speaker 2: lighting and night was very good. I feel like movies
- 16:03Speaker 2: are too eager to have nighttime in the wilderness be
- 16:07Speaker 2: portrayed as though there's like street lamps everywhere and you
- 16:10Speaker 2: can just like see, you know, a thousand yards And
- 16:12Speaker 2: sometimes it's like that a few nights a year it's
- 16:15Speaker 2: like that, especially when there's snow on the ground, but
- 16:17Speaker 2: often it's not. And I feel like fictional nighttime scenes
- 16:22Speaker 2: in the woods are often way too bright. This movie
- 16:25Speaker 2: didn't do that. They made it good and dark, and
- 16:27Speaker 2: I thought the lighting around the campfires was fine.
- 16:30Speaker 4: It was.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a few scenes where they could have easily
- 16:33Speaker 1: when they're like finally get to the forest and they're
- 16:36Speaker 1: kind of in that hole and they're looking up the
- 16:38Speaker 1: hill where they can hear the sounds. They could have
- 16:40Speaker 1: easily lit it up and shown the big monster on
- 16:43Speaker 1: top of the hill, but they chose not to just
- 16:45Speaker 1: left it dark. And yeah, there's a lot.
- 16:48Speaker 6: Of film grain. You could tell this movie was shot
- 16:50Speaker 6: on films. Yeah, so's it's a lot darker and more
- 16:52Speaker 6: gritty than movies are made these days. I mean like visually, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Next next thing I thought they got right when the
- 16:59Speaker 2: as I think think it was Diaz was cutting the
- 17:01Speaker 2: head off the wolf, I was like, oh, that that
- 17:03Speaker 2: knife work looks like what would happen when you're cutting
- 17:06Speaker 2: the head off the wolf? And I've now learned that
- 17:08Speaker 2: that was probably one of the four wolf carcass See.
- 17:10Speaker 5: I had this in my inauthentic column. Oh, I thought
- 17:13Speaker 5: the knife work looked good, but there wasn't enough twisting.
- 17:16Speaker 1: There wasn't enough twist, enough twisting.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I thought there was the right amount of struggle. Yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 2: it took him like a minute to do it, and
- 17:23Speaker 2: I was like, okay, yeah, for a fellow like that,
- 17:26Speaker 2: that would probably take him like a minute. And the
- 17:28Speaker 2: last cut of meat looked like it was cleaned through
- 17:31Speaker 2: like a piece of meat, and I'm now realizing that
- 17:33Speaker 2: that was probably the case because it was likely one
- 17:35Speaker 2: of those four wolf.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Carcasses that they had, the two that didn't get eaten.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I was like, okay, that that looked like someone cutting
- 17:42Speaker 2: the head off of a wolf. So I'm satisfied here.
- 17:45Speaker 4: It was.
- 17:46Speaker 2: The next thing, Liam Neeson mentions that wolves have a
- 17:48Speaker 2: territory about three hundred square miles. I did some googling
- 17:51Speaker 2: and that seems right specific. Yeah, so that seemed good.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Here's what I like most. The first thing after the
- 17:57Speaker 2: plane crash that he does is he goes through his
- 18:00Speaker 2: luggage to find a stocking hat. Now, I've noticed in
- 18:03Speaker 2: movies that take place in like brutal cold that they
- 18:07Speaker 2: are not emphasizing that they are cold by putting on
- 18:12Speaker 2: headgear as far as like a stocking hat or a
- 18:15Speaker 2: face mask. Game of Thrones is the worst defender of this.
- 18:17Speaker 2: They can be north of the Wall wandering through the
- 18:20Speaker 2: worst blizzard that a human has ever seen, but there's
- 18:23Speaker 2: not like a stocking hat or a face mask to
- 18:26Speaker 2: be seen, and it's like, it's it's clearly not that cold.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Are those real people? They're like fictional.
- 18:33Speaker 2: There's like John snow is the worst defender. He has
- 18:35Speaker 2: never worn a stocking hat in like ten seasons of
- 18:38Speaker 2: that show. That's not a real stat but it sure
- 18:40Speaker 2: seems like it is. So he wanted to wear a
- 18:43Speaker 2: stocking hat. He was immediately cold, and he's like, I
- 18:45Speaker 2: need to fix this, and he went for a stocking hat,
- 18:47Speaker 2: and I thought that was good.
- 18:48Speaker 5: Yep, yeo, honest, why don't you why don't you take
- 18:51Speaker 5: on the question of what you found to be inauthentic?
- 18:54Speaker 1: Oh, I don't get to tell you, my I just yeah,
- 18:58Speaker 1: a couple of hits. I put him under hit and missus.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Hits was that they used the strainer to kill somebody.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And if you're familiar with what a strainer is, if
- 19:09Speaker 1: you spent time on a river, that's a log that's
- 19:11Speaker 1: across the river, and a lot of times the current
- 19:13Speaker 1: can get you pinned up against it and you can't
- 19:16Speaker 1: get out from that situation. You can get trapped. So
- 19:19Speaker 1: I thought that was like, oh wow, Like it wasn't
- 19:22Speaker 1: quite proper because the strainer itself wasn't what got him.
- 19:25Speaker 1: It was, you know, his foot gets stuck between the rocks.
- 19:27Speaker 1: But still I like that different snow conditions, Yeah, we had,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you know, like cold blowing snow, powdery deep snow, and
- 19:37Speaker 1: then it kind of turns into some more springtime crusty
- 19:41Speaker 1: and they seem to kind of keep up with that
- 19:43Speaker 1: even on their jackets. If you noticed in a couple
- 19:46Speaker 1: of the later scenes they had this like almost crusty,
- 19:50Speaker 1: frozen to their shoulders snow, which I thought I was thinking, like, man,
- 19:53Speaker 1: that might not that might not be that easy to
- 19:56Speaker 1: continuously get right, you know, through the day as you're
- 19:59Speaker 1: shooting and seen last not least dirty fingernails. Oh, you know,
- 20:07Speaker 1: very authentic, like when you see some close ups of
- 20:10Speaker 1: Liam Neeson's hands sometimes, like, dude, those guys, that guy's
- 20:14Speaker 1: hands look like he's been out in the wilderness for
- 20:16Speaker 1: a couple of weeks.
- 20:17Speaker 5: A nice touch, A nice touch. What about inauthenticity?
- 20:20Speaker 2: Oh boy, My notes were five times and maybe we'll
- 20:24Speaker 2: keep this too a couple I'll try to do like
- 20:26Speaker 2: I said, notes were five times longer. I'll just skim
- 20:28Speaker 2: in here. The day length was way off. Assuming this
- 20:30Speaker 2: was winter and last year, those days should be three
- 20:32Speaker 2: to six hours of daylight. They were not. They spent
- 20:35Speaker 2: equal amounts of time in daylight as they did at nighttime,
- 20:39Speaker 2: No way, that's that's what would be happening there. How
- 20:43Speaker 2: the wolves were so audible when they attack. This is
- 20:45Speaker 2: why I'm looking forward to asking our guest Tyler later,
- 20:47Speaker 2: who just got attacked by grizzly? Did that grizzly come
- 20:50Speaker 2: in like announcing its presence and growling and just you know,
- 20:54Speaker 2: telling you at the top of its lungs, I'm a
- 20:56Speaker 2: grizzly and I'm here to kill you. Because that's what
- 20:58Speaker 2: the wolves did.
- 20:58Speaker 6: These these are supernatural wolves.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Yeah, these wolves were just sort of.
- 21:02Speaker 2: The eye shine, the eye shine of the wolves. It's
- 21:06Speaker 2: impressive enough in real life. They didn't need to make
- 21:09Speaker 2: it look like their eyes were headlamps.
- 21:11Speaker 3: There was teeth shine in one.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I didn't catch them. Yeah, we see elk antlers in
- 21:17Speaker 2: the den, which elk are only found on four islands
- 21:20Speaker 2: in Way Way Way, southern Alaska, which is not where
- 21:22Speaker 2: they crashed their plane. So there's no you know, those
- 21:24Speaker 2: elk were thousands of miles away from home at that point.
- 21:28Speaker 2: And then, just like the the wolves in general, we
- 21:31Speaker 2: now know due to modern studies, that there isn't an
- 21:33Speaker 2: Alfa wolf and they have a whole thing in this
- 21:35Speaker 2: movie about an alfa alfa wolf being overthrown. That's not
- 21:39Speaker 2: how their hierarchy works. It's just like family groups.
- 21:41Speaker 6: Uh.
- 21:42Speaker 2: And and an alpha to researchers in the forties is
- 21:45Speaker 2: what we now know to just be like the mom
- 21:47Speaker 2: or dad. And so that that was way off. And
- 21:49Speaker 2: they made too much of the movie about some of
- 21:52Speaker 2: the other wolf wanting to become the top wolf, and
- 21:55Speaker 2: that like factored into.
- 21:56Speaker 1: And he was the Omega wolf.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and the wolves. Last thing just how thirsty
- 22:03Speaker 2: these wolves are for human blood. Since nineteen twenty two,
- 22:05Speaker 2: there have been ten fatal attacks in North America from wolves. Well,
- 22:08Speaker 2: this movie had half of them, You're honest.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Anything to add uh, Yeah, I had a bunch of
- 22:15Speaker 1: the same notes. But I'm surprised you didn't pick up
- 22:18Speaker 1: on the very first one that hit me. And it
- 22:21Speaker 1: was within I think five or ten minutes of the movie.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Is that there's a scene where he looks at his
- 22:28Speaker 1: rifle or he checks his rifle before he's packing up,
- 22:32Speaker 1: and then it cuts to a box of shotgun shells.
- 22:35Speaker 6: Yes, and I even I caught that, And I'm Phil,
- 22:38Speaker 6: Please Phil, Phil, go to the photo. Phil, Oh, I'm sorry,
- 22:42Speaker 6: hold on.
- 22:43Speaker 2: After the plane crash, he goes to find that his
- 22:46Speaker 2: bolt action rifle has been destroyed, and then he goes
- 22:49Speaker 2: through the AMMO box just for us to three see
- 22:53Speaker 2: like three shotgun shells. And I was so amused by it,
- 22:57Speaker 2: I had to take a picture of it. So that
- 22:59Speaker 2: was his all for his bolt action rifle right there.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Yes, I did pick up on it.
- 23:04Speaker 2: We just don't have the time to go through everything. Everything.
- 23:07Speaker 3: There was a lot.
- 23:08Speaker 1: It's yeah. So on that note, they you know, they
- 23:11Speaker 1: make a bang stick or supposedly by basically just electrical
- 23:15Speaker 1: taping these shotgun shells to the end of a pointy stick.
- 23:18Speaker 1: That's a stretch. Probably not gonna work. The torches and
- 23:24Speaker 1: the fires were just like a little bit too bright,
- 23:27Speaker 1: a little bit like you know, weather wasn't affecting their
- 23:29Speaker 1: torches whatsoever. The logic of going to the trees to escape, yeah, they.
- 23:37Speaker 6: Seemed so well. I guess not all of them were
- 23:39Speaker 6: sure of it, but Liam Neeson was sure that they
- 23:41Speaker 6: had to make it for the forest.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Well, I my my my thought was, as soon as
- 23:46Speaker 5: they crash, He's just like, they're not going to find us.
- 23:49Speaker 5: We need to leave the biggest trace of our existence. Yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 5: we need to leave the most visible landmark Freddy's. For sure,
- 23:56Speaker 5: we need to get away from this plane, which is
- 23:57Speaker 5: the exact option.
- 23:58Speaker 2: And take their wallet so that when somebody does find
- 24:01Speaker 2: the wreck, they're not going to know who these guys are,
- 24:03Speaker 2: which is just so amazing.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Really quick.
- 24:07Speaker 6: What is John Otway's job? Is it to protect? Yeah?
- 24:11Speaker 3: Like the wildlife?
- 24:14Speaker 10: Is that?
- 24:14Speaker 6: Is that an actual threat?
- 24:16Speaker 4: No?
- 24:16Speaker 6: In real life, but they do.
- 24:18Speaker 5: I mean they do have people serving in those roles
- 24:22Speaker 5: in some instances. For I think it's more for polar
- 24:25Speaker 5: bears and things like that.
- 24:26Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, like.
- 24:26Speaker 2: There there'll be a wildlife specialist at an airstrip there,
- 24:29Speaker 2: but there's not a guy who's just there to gun
- 24:31Speaker 2: down the wolves.
- 24:32Speaker 6: As they come running into Yes, it's clear this man
- 24:35Speaker 6: has a has a checkered past, possibly as like a
- 24:37Speaker 6: hit man or a mercenary. I loved one of the
- 24:39Speaker 6: first things he says is I don't know why I
- 24:41Speaker 6: did half the things I've done, but I know this
- 24:43Speaker 6: is where I belong. And I thought that that really
- 24:46Speaker 6: sets the stage for who.
- 24:47Speaker 1: This guy is.
- 24:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I love I love films that have one guy
- 24:52Speaker 5: who sort of knows everything and is the expert and
- 24:55Speaker 5: then there's like ten other characters, and because there's nothing
- 24:58Speaker 5: memorable about them, they have to always addressed one another
- 25:01Speaker 5: by name. So it's just like it's just like, Bill,
- 25:05Speaker 5: what did you do to John? I didn't do anything,
- 25:08Speaker 5: Tim John did that himself, you know, like that's the
- 25:11Speaker 5: whole movie. I think half of the dialogue was them
- 25:13Speaker 5: repeating their name so you'd remember that there are characters.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and then half of it was f bombs.
- 25:17Speaker 5: I did look up there are and I apologize for
- 25:20Speaker 5: anyone who screened this and was put off by the profanity.
- 25:23Speaker 3: I wasn't aware of it until we picked it.
- 25:25Speaker 5: But one hundred and sixty one uses of the word
- 25:28Speaker 5: in one hundred and seventeen minutes that puts you somewhere
- 25:32Speaker 5: between Magic Mike and Born on the fourth of July.
- 25:35Speaker 6: So, okay, not quite good fella's numbers.
- 25:38Speaker 1: No, it really discredits the guy that's supposed to be
- 25:41Speaker 1: the expert when all of a sudden, he's like, let's
- 25:43Speaker 1: run into the forest. They'll never find us there.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:47Speaker 1: The other thing that was a little bit of a
- 25:48Speaker 1: stretch Jennifer actually picked up on this one was that
- 25:51Speaker 1: their sub alpine because they're in the timber and the
- 25:58Speaker 1: rotund fella I can't remember his name, but he gets
- 26:02Speaker 1: altitude sickness ends up dying from it.
- 26:05Speaker 6: Was that Hernandez. I can well, guys, all these memorable characters, yeah,
- 26:11Speaker 6: hear it, We've got Diaz Hernando.
- 26:12Speaker 1: But you just you know, like Max, you might be
- 26:15Speaker 1: at five thousand feet. That's a stretch to put someone down.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Guys, we could go on for a very long time.
- 26:21Speaker 1: With Yes, you have ten more pages of notes, but.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I think we need to wrap this up.
- 26:27Speaker 5: My plan was to ask you whether or not you
- 26:29Speaker 5: could recommend this around the campfire and maintain a shred
- 26:31Speaker 5: of your credibility as an outdoorsman. But based on your
- 26:36Speaker 5: reactions to the film, I'm not quite sure that we
- 26:38Speaker 5: need more than a one word answer.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I would not two out of five stars, be honest.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Yeah, one point five out of five Phil, just as
- 26:47Speaker 1: just would you please just rate it as a work
- 26:50Speaker 1: of cinema.
- 26:52Speaker 6: I think Spencer's right on the money. This is a
- 26:53Speaker 6: two out of five. But I say I was working
- 26:55Speaker 6: at a movie theater and this movie came out and
- 26:57Speaker 6: it was very popular. It was also a very popular
- 27:00Speaker 6: movie to find a dip cups in spit cups after Wow,
- 27:05Speaker 6: it's that kind of genre movie. You knew after a
- 27:07Speaker 6: screening of The Gray be careful picking up cups because
- 27:10Speaker 6: you might flip some up.
- 27:12Speaker 5: I will say this movie actually was critically acclaimed.
- 27:16Speaker 3: It was well received.
- 27:17Speaker 5: But I did find one quip that I'll share with
- 27:20Speaker 5: you which is less than celebratory. It says, on the downside,
- 27:23Speaker 5: there's a lot of dull, pretentious flossiphizing about the heartlessness
- 27:26Speaker 5: of nature and God. On the upside, you get to
- 27:29Speaker 5: see a man punch a wolf in the face. Okay,
- 27:32Speaker 5: that's the Gray, everybody, That is the upside.
- 27:34Speaker 6: I will say one last thing that I want to say.
- 27:37Speaker 6: My favorite scene in the whole movie was when Talgot
- 27:40Speaker 6: is afraid of heights is climbing. This is the most
- 27:43Speaker 6: preposterous scene in the movie, and I loved it. They
- 27:45Speaker 6: may make like a makeshift like line to go down
- 27:49Speaker 6: this for this ravine. His glasses fall off, He's terrified.
- 27:52Speaker 6: He falls, slams into a tree, falls one hundred feet down,
- 27:56Speaker 6: hitting every branch on the way, imagines his daughter's tickling
- 27:59Speaker 6: him in the face. Immediately cuts to a bunch of
- 28:01Speaker 6: wolves ripping him apart.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Yeah, hell, the wolves cross that giant canyon. That's why
- 28:09Speaker 1: I was going.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Three hundred mile territory. They can be wherever you think
- 28:13Speaker 2: they're not.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Did it come into your minds at all that fourteen
- 28:17Speaker 1: years prior to this movie coming out, there was this
- 28:19Speaker 1: great movie called The Edge. They came out and it
- 28:23Speaker 1: was way better. Yeah, And I could see that someone
- 28:26Speaker 1: was like, let's just redo that with wolves and maybe
- 28:29Speaker 1: instead of the guys you know having sex with the
- 28:32Speaker 1: same woman, you know this guy, whatever, we'll chick twist
- 28:37Speaker 1: off the plot a little bit.
- 28:38Speaker 5: I mean, The Edge could be eligible for a future
- 28:40Speaker 5: mediater movie Club.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I'd much rather rewatch that.
- 28:42Speaker 2: And if people have a suggestion, they should send their
- 28:45Speaker 2: movie suggestion for the media to movie club, to radio
- 28:48Speaker 2: at the meadeater dot com. All right, boys, we are
- 28:51Speaker 2: going to move on. The next thing we are doing
- 28:54Speaker 2: is a segment, a new segment called one Minute Fishing.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Do I be lucky, We'll do you dunk, go ahead,
- 29:04Speaker 3: make my cast.
- 29:08Speaker 2: All right. One minute Fishing is where we go live
- 29:11Speaker 2: to someone who's fishing and they have one minute to
- 29:14Speaker 2: catch a fish, and if they're successful, we'll make a
- 29:16Speaker 2: five hundred dollars donation to a Conservation group. This week
- 29:20Speaker 2: our angler is Seth Morris who's at the pond behind
- 29:24Speaker 2: our office and he's fishing for a donation to Trout Unlimited.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Seth Morris, doctor lip Ripper, Welcome to the show and
- 29:32Speaker 2: happy birthday.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Thanks guys, appreciate it.
- 29:36Speaker 3: You don't look at day over thirty three.
- 29:39Speaker 6: Thanks Randall, I appreciate you.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Now, Seth, tell us about the conditions out there and
- 29:45Speaker 2: how you are going to try to be successful with
- 29:47Speaker 2: just one minute of fishing.
- 29:49Speaker 11: Yeah, so we're out back behind the office here. I'm
- 29:53Speaker 11: in a spot that I fished plenty of times before
- 29:56Speaker 11: and have caught quite a few fish, usually brook trout,
- 29:59Speaker 11: but we got some in twelve coming in here from
- 30:01Speaker 11: a creek, a little current over there, some shade. I
- 30:04Speaker 11: think that's gonna be the spot where I catch them.
- 30:06Speaker 11: Hope bringers crossed and.
- 30:09Speaker 2: You were scouting this morning, but you didn't make any
- 30:12Speaker 2: cast because he wanted the trout to stay dumb until
- 30:16Speaker 2: it got to the moment that mattered.
- 30:18Speaker 8: Are you?
- 30:19Speaker 1: Are you? What's the lure of choice? And if like
- 30:23Speaker 1: thirty seconds in are you, do you have another lure
- 30:26Speaker 1: in your pocket that you might switch to? If that
- 30:29Speaker 1: one's not working.
- 30:30Speaker 6: No, I'm going All the eggs are in this basket
- 30:33Speaker 6: right here.
- 30:33Speaker 5: It's a number four, little number four spinner panther Martin.
- 30:38Speaker 5: It's got a yellow body and some red dots. Silver blade.
- 30:43Speaker 5: And this is to be clear for those of you
- 30:45Speaker 5: who are listening. Set this fishing on the small pond
- 30:49Speaker 5: behind our office. Behind him is some sort of nondescript
- 30:53Speaker 5: commercial development that's out the Bozeman And we're gonna see
- 30:58Speaker 5: what you can do here.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, is going for a trout. That's mostly what lives
- 31:03Speaker 2: in there. Seth, Your one minute of fishing starts when
- 31:06Speaker 2: you make your first cast. I will give you updates
- 31:08Speaker 2: as you go. So go ahead and try to catch
- 31:11Speaker 2: that fish.
- 31:12Speaker 1: All right, let's do it. It looks like it's still
- 31:19Speaker 1: cool out there, late late in the morning. Seth's got
- 31:24Speaker 1: his uh black furnace hoodie for first.
- 31:28Speaker 2: How many casts do you think he can get in
- 31:29Speaker 2: one minute on this little pond?
- 31:31Speaker 6: Five?
- 31:33Speaker 3: I think yeah, okay, way more than that.
- 31:35Speaker 5: Well, he is not a real aggressive retrieval he's using.
- 31:38Speaker 2: He's now twenty seconds in, Seth, you have forty sevens.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Ohay, he farmed it?
- 31:45Speaker 1: Did he miss it?
- 31:46Speaker 3: He farmed it, ladies and gentlemen.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Oh he missed it.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Okay, Oh goodness, Seth. You Seth had a fish on
- 31:54Speaker 1: and just sat too hard and pulled it right off
- 31:57Speaker 1: his lip.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Seth, you got twenty seconds to go twenty seconds.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, there goes that fishing. Seth's palms look
- 32:06Speaker 1: like they're getting a little sweaty. Ten seconds, Seth fine,
- 32:12Speaker 1: crystal clear video three two.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Well, let's let him. Let's let him.
- 32:20Speaker 6: Didn't the real sound effect next time?
- 32:22Speaker 2: Well for Seth, Seth, now tell us what happened on
- 32:26Speaker 2: that bite that you had.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Was it a bite?
- 32:28Speaker 6: Indeed?
- 32:29Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a bite?
- 32:30Speaker 11: And I just had one there on that last cast too.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Oh man, I don't know.
- 32:35Speaker 4: You just didn't hook up.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Well, it looks like you need two minutes of fishing
- 32:39Speaker 2: next time. Maybe sharper hook be successful.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Eat some barbes on those hooks, Seth.
- 32:44Speaker 4: Oh their bar buddy, Seth.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Thank you for joining us. We're gonna have you join
- 32:51Speaker 2: us again for another one minute fishing sometime and uh yeah,
- 32:55Speaker 2: you're gonna be a regular on this segment.
- 32:57Speaker 6: Okay, really quick.
- 32:58Speaker 1: I just saw a comment from Stephen Ranella, who must
- 33:01Speaker 1: be tuned in I don't know.
- 33:02Speaker 6: It's like Steve's watching.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I don't know where the hell he is. He has
- 33:05Speaker 1: enough time to sit here and watch this show. But
- 33:08Speaker 1: Steve says, when I propose this segment, I suggested that
- 33:11Speaker 1: you get a single cast, not a whole minute.
- 33:15Speaker 4: Uh huh.
- 33:15Speaker 2: And then I took Steve's idea and I changed it
- 33:18Speaker 2: to one minute fishing instead of one cast of fishing.
- 33:22Speaker 2: You know what, I like this version better.
- 33:24Speaker 3: He's still going, he's still going.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Seth, keep fishing out there. Let us
- 33:30Speaker 2: know later when you get one. Maybe maybe you can
- 33:32Speaker 2: carry it right into the studio here for us, because
- 33:34Speaker 2: you're only about twenty yards away.
- 33:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:36Speaker 1: If I catch one, I'll bring it in.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay, very happy birthday.
- 33:40Speaker 6: Birthday, Seth, thanks for joining us.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Phil.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Let's get some listener feedback from the show so far.
- 33:45Speaker 6: Oh boy, okay, let's see we have one from Shelby Huber.
- 33:51Speaker 6: I don't know if you're aware of her, she says,
- 33:53Speaker 6: I know for a fact that Spencer loves donkeys.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Oh okay.
- 33:57Speaker 6: This goes back to our segment with the other Seth,
- 34:00Speaker 6: are you a fan of donkeys?
- 34:02Speaker 2: Is this the thing that's as far as like, I
- 34:04Speaker 2: guess equestrian things go if I were ranking them all, Yeah,
- 34:07Speaker 2: maybe a donkey.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Do you do you have a stuffed donkey at home?
- 34:11Speaker 12: No?
- 34:11Speaker 2: No, I don't think there's a stuffed animal in my home.
- 34:15Speaker 6: Uh sorry, Karen, I can't focus on that right now.
- 34:19Speaker 6: Let's see there there haven't been a lot of good comments.
- 34:22Speaker 6: I gotta be honest, you guys need to step it
- 34:23Speaker 6: up a little bit.
- 34:24Speaker 9: But I'm just gonna say Shane Burke, who is on
- 34:27Speaker 9: our podcast before Survive the Grizzly Attack uh in Wyoming
- 34:34Speaker 9: said Steth forgot to say fish on when it took.
- 34:37Speaker 2: That's a very good Okay, lesson learned for next time.
- 34:41Speaker 2: And commenters keep leaving us some feedback and we will
- 34:44Speaker 2: review them again at the end of the show.
- 34:46Speaker 6: We do have a couple a couple of gray gray
- 34:48Speaker 6: uh things. It's bringing talking about John Snow not wearing
- 34:51Speaker 6: a hat. Their all a game of throne. That's the
- 34:53Speaker 6: intensity of his gaze. That keeps I think that's true.
- 34:56Speaker 6: That's that's just biology.
- 34:58Speaker 3: That's a good comment.
- 35:00Speaker 6: Uh Yeah. Anyway, keep keep senden in comments.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Yeah, make them provocative.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, move questions.
- 35:05Speaker 6: Questions are better than statement.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Sure.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Moving on, our next segment is from Chester Floyd. This
- 35:12Speaker 2: is Chettiquit.
- 35:13Speaker 6: Oh, I've got a sounder for this here. G T
- 35:16Speaker 6: you e T T E find out Bud means to me.
- 35:19Speaker 1: G g T you t T take care of gg.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Incredible?
- 35:27Speaker 1: Oh man, no talent, it's boiling over.
- 35:30Speaker 2: That was not going to be a weekly segment, but
- 35:33Speaker 2: I think all of a sudden it just became one.
- 35:35Speaker 2: So I can hear that sounder every time. Phil is
- 35:38Speaker 2: going to play us a chettiquet that was pre recorded
- 35:41Speaker 2: from our very own Chester Floyd.
- 35:43Speaker 7: Hello everybody, I'm Chester Floyd, coming at you from Wisconsin,
- 35:48Speaker 7: and this week's Chettiqit question comes to us from Corey.
- 35:52Speaker 7: Corey writes, years ago, my co worker and his wife
- 35:56Speaker 7: were expecting their first child in October. I agreed to
- 36:00Speaker 7: work longer on my hitch, sacrificing hunting time to support them.
- 36:04Speaker 7: A few days after birth, he sent me photos of
- 36:07Speaker 7: a dead elk instead of a newborn baby. Later, I
- 36:11Speaker 7: discovered he left his wife and the newborn in the
- 36:15Speaker 7: hospital to hunt out of state, causing me to miss
- 36:18Speaker 7: prime mule deer hunting. While trying to help him out.
- 36:22Speaker 7: I would love to know your thoughts, and I'm curious
- 36:24Speaker 7: as to how many others would have done the same. Wow, Corey,
- 36:30Speaker 7: thank you for writing in and sounds like you're a
- 36:32Speaker 7: pretty good man for doing that for your buddy. We
- 36:36Speaker 7: need more guys like you looking out for others, and
- 36:39Speaker 7: less guys like your buddy, who seems like a pretty
- 36:41Speaker 7: selfish dude. More of the story is, I imagine your
- 36:45Speaker 7: buddy knows he messed up. I mean, ultimately, what's more
- 36:48Speaker 7: important your family and a newborn, a dead elk, you know,
- 36:53Speaker 7: or friendship? So I think everyone knows the answer to that.
- 36:57Speaker 7: The point is you don't ever leave your wife and
- 37:00Speaker 7: your child in the hospital for any reason. And if
- 37:03Speaker 7: you're gonna send a picture to your buddy of a
- 37:06Speaker 7: dead elk, he better not be covering you on your
- 37:09Speaker 7: shift for something not related to hunting at all. We'll
- 37:12Speaker 7: see you next week again. I'm Chester, Floyd, and this
- 37:16Speaker 7: is Chetniki.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Being called not a very good guy by Chester. That
- 37:20Speaker 2: hurts extra, That hurts three times.
- 37:22Speaker 3: That hurt him to say it.
- 37:24Speaker 2: It did, it certainly did. Now, Yanni, you're you're a father,
- 37:27Speaker 2: an elk hunter, a family man.
- 37:29Speaker 13: Give us your feedback on this subject Chester spot On,
- 37:32Speaker 13: But I'm a little bit confused about Corey that wrote
- 37:35Speaker 13: in that he was also he's kind of like bummed
- 37:39Speaker 13: out and asking about two separate things because he was like,
- 37:43Speaker 13: my buddy left his family in the hospital.
- 37:45Speaker 1: But also he called me and I missed out on
- 37:48Speaker 1: some prime mule deer hunt. So if those two are
- 37:52Speaker 1: not related to me, I feel like, hey, man, if
- 37:55Speaker 1: you're a good buddy, then sure you're just hold on. Sorry,
- 37:59Speaker 1: rock who trout there's probably not gonna survive the day.
- 38:06Speaker 1: He's running back to the pond to throw it in.
- 38:09Speaker 2: That's our new segment ten minutes of Fishing, where we
- 38:13Speaker 2: see if Seth can hook into a trout, and he
- 38:16Speaker 2: was successful, but that does not mean a donation today.
- 38:19Speaker 2: What a phenomenal start to one minute fishing.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Yes, but the comments are going to roll in now
- 38:25Speaker 1: from the fly fishing Catch and release Elite will be thick.
- 38:31Speaker 2: I will vouch for Seth. That will fetfish is already
- 38:34Speaker 2: swimming by.
- 38:34Speaker 5: Now.
- 38:34Speaker 2: That's how close we are to this pond. You could
- 38:37Speaker 2: spit from our back door.
- 38:39Speaker 6: Tyler wants us to fry something on air next time
- 38:42Speaker 6: that happens. That's something maybe we can do at some
- 38:44Speaker 6: point or.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Listen, there's a segment coming down the road someday that's
- 38:48Speaker 2: going to involve George Foreman's But for now, we need
- 38:51Speaker 2: to move on and we are going to talk to
- 38:54Speaker 2: Tyler Johnson. Tyler Johnson survived a brown bear attack but
- 38:58Speaker 2: accidentally shot himself during the encounter. He is live from
- 39:02Speaker 2: an airport in Alaska right now. Tyler, welcome to the show.
- 39:06Speaker 2: We've been really excited to talk to you and we're
- 39:09Speaker 2: glad you're still around to share your story. First thing,
- 39:11Speaker 2: tell us what you were doing that day when you
- 39:13Speaker 2: had the grizzly bear encounter.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Oh, you muted buddy, feels got him.
- 39:21Speaker 6: I've got him, all right?
- 39:22Speaker 12: Yeah, Now it was honey, black bear with my father
- 39:25Speaker 12: and well we found the wrong color bear.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Yeah's it?
- 39:30Speaker 2: And where were you in Alaska?
- 39:33Speaker 12: The Kenai Peninsula. It's you know, south of Anchorage. We're
- 39:37Speaker 12: a resurrection trail. Is it's a trail that kind of
- 39:41Speaker 12: hooks seward and hope. It's a forty three mile trail
- 39:44Speaker 12: and we're seventeen miles deep into there.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Now, tell us what happened in the minutes leading up
- 39:50Speaker 2: to the encounter. How did you wind up in the
- 39:52Speaker 2: same exact spot as this grizzly.
- 39:56Speaker 12: Well, we were falling a horse trail and uh it
- 40:01Speaker 12: was a really old trail. I was just flagging and
- 40:06Speaker 12: you know when you're trying to fall a flag and
- 40:07Speaker 12: it's kind of hard with just the brush around trying
- 40:10Speaker 12: to find it. We kind of lost a trail for
- 40:14Speaker 12: a little bit. We're hiking around trying to find the trail.
- 40:17Speaker 12: There was just these willows and the olders. I don't
- 40:19Speaker 12: know if they ever tried hiking through them, but they're
- 40:22Speaker 12: extremely difficult to hike through with the pack on. We
- 40:25Speaker 12: ended up finding the trail and it was like almost
- 40:29Speaker 12: like a tunnel through the the willows there. My dad
- 40:33Speaker 12: found the flag first, so he goes ahead ahead of me,
- 40:37Speaker 12: and uh, well, when he was about fifteen yards ahead
- 40:41Speaker 12: of me, I exited out of that tunnel kind of
- 40:45Speaker 12: into like this metal. The wind wasn't blowing, so it's
- 40:49Speaker 12: not like she could have sniffed us. I couldn't. We
- 40:51Speaker 12: couldn't smell her or anything like that. We just kind
- 40:53Speaker 12: of all surprise each other.
- 40:55Speaker 4: The grass was.
- 40:58Speaker 12: Oh no, it's hard for me to remember that because moment,
- 41:00Speaker 12: but it might have been hip high maybe higher, and
- 41:03Speaker 12: we all surprise each other. I think I'll think about
- 41:07Speaker 12: top ramin that night. You know what else you want
- 41:08Speaker 12: to have for dinner?
- 41:10Speaker 2: Okay, Now the surprise encounter? Was it an audible thing? First?
- 41:15Speaker 2: Did you see the bear? Did you smell the bear?
- 41:17Speaker 10: Like?
- 41:17Speaker 2: What was your first clue that this was about to
- 41:20Speaker 2: be bad?
- 41:22Speaker 12: So my dad and the bear yelled at the same time,
- 41:24Speaker 12: or roared and yelled. Like I said, I was behind
- 41:27Speaker 12: my dad. I didn't smell her. You know, you always
- 41:30Speaker 12: like you can smell the bear before you see it, right,
- 41:32Speaker 12: not this one.
- 41:34Speaker 10: At least. I wasn't trying to find a smell for
- 41:36Speaker 10: a bear at that moment.
- 41:37Speaker 4: And she growled.
- 41:40Speaker 12: My dad said, bear, bear, bear, And I mean it
- 41:43Speaker 12: was instantaneous. She did her yell enough to like stop
- 41:48Speaker 12: your heart. She sprinted towards my dad, charged my dad
- 41:53Speaker 12: and this is four seconds like I mean, her growl.
- 41:57Speaker 12: I'm on my back four seconds. Yeah, like I said,
- 42:03Speaker 12: there was no rule like warning except for I'm coming
- 42:06Speaker 12: to get.
- 42:07Speaker 5: You, you know.
- 42:09Speaker 2: So what happened then when the bear had you on
- 42:13Speaker 2: your back and it was on top of you, so she.
- 42:17Speaker 10: She hit me like a train man. My feet went
- 42:20Speaker 10: over my head.
- 42:22Speaker 12: I was still trying to unholster my pistol right when
- 42:24Speaker 12: she was right in front of me when she hit me,
- 42:26Speaker 12: I have a police holder.
- 42:28Speaker 10: My dad's a trooper, so he let me.
- 42:29Speaker 12: He was his police holster that has a buttony press
- 42:32Speaker 12: and then the strap moves forward. Well, once you hit me,
- 42:35Speaker 12: the strap move forward, and I pulled my pistol. My
- 42:37Speaker 12: legs went over my head, and I don't know if
- 42:38Speaker 12: it was just reacting, you know. I tried maybe trying
- 42:41Speaker 12: to kick the bear away. Trying to kick and shoot
- 42:43Speaker 12: at the same time doesn't work out. So I ended
- 42:47Speaker 12: up putting a bullet through my left thigh and then
- 42:50Speaker 12: the rest of the bullets found her neck and face.
- 42:54Speaker 10: Repeated it.
- 42:55Speaker 2: And when when you shot yourself, did you know in
- 42:59Speaker 2: that moment that you would shot yourself?
- 43:01Speaker 4: No?
- 43:02Speaker 12: No, I mean you can imagine that a drownine with
- 43:06Speaker 12: a brown bear on top of you, grabbing your leg.
- 43:08Speaker 10: And you know, chewing on you.
- 43:09Speaker 4: It was yeah.
- 43:12Speaker 10: I was just shoot first and then look at the
- 43:15Speaker 10: wounds later, you know.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Yeah, So, Chyler, do you have any idea about how
- 43:20Speaker 1: big this bear was?
- 43:24Speaker 12: I don't really have a scale to really match it
- 43:26Speaker 12: with because I've never personally been like this close to
- 43:30Speaker 12: a bear or right next to it, like we laid
- 43:31Speaker 12: next to that bear for two hours.
- 43:33Speaker 10: I've seen him, you know, all my hunts from Afar.
- 43:36Speaker 12: I know it was a big bear. My father he
- 43:38Speaker 12: sees bears all the time. He estimated it was like
- 43:40Speaker 12: four hundred plus. She was fifteen years old. She had
- 43:44Speaker 12: a caller on we I got to see that up close. Well,
- 43:47Speaker 12: and yeah, they went out and retrieved the caller and
- 43:51Speaker 12: the data came back that she was fifteen years old,
- 43:53Speaker 12: so she wasn't a young or super old bear.
- 43:57Speaker 4: It was a yeah.
- 44:00Speaker 2: And how many shots were taken between you and your dad,
- 44:03Speaker 2: and how many of those bullets found the bear?
- 44:07Speaker 12: So personally I can say I believe one bullet found
- 44:12Speaker 12: my leg, the other seven found the bear in the
- 44:16Speaker 12: face and neck. It's kind of hard to miss when
- 44:19Speaker 12: it's right here in front of face. Except well, I
- 44:20Speaker 12: did just say shot myself. But besides the point my dad,
- 44:28Speaker 12: you know, he wasn't just standing there. He was getting
- 44:30Speaker 12: a different angle on the bear when it was on
- 44:31Speaker 12: top of me, and so that's his point of view.
- 44:33Speaker 12: All he saw was my legs go up and then
- 44:35Speaker 12: you know, a bear's butt, and so he went into
- 44:38Speaker 12: a different angle so he didn't shoot through the bear.
- 44:40Speaker 12: To me, I did know he unloaded the whole magazine
- 44:45Speaker 12: into the bear when it was next to me, like
- 44:48Speaker 12: in its head, because I don't know what I hit
- 44:52Speaker 12: to stop the bear from mauling you. As you know,
- 44:55Speaker 12: if you when you go hunting and you shoot a bear,
- 44:57Speaker 12: you shoot it through the lungs and it can run
- 44:58Speaker 12: a mile. Right, And he got a pissed off sal
- 45:02Speaker 12: You can shoot her in the chest fifteen times and
- 45:04Speaker 12: she'll still try to you know, Mallya. But that seventh
- 45:08Speaker 12: shot I saw her give up for all over.
- 45:13Speaker 10: It's kind of hard to describe.
- 45:14Speaker 12: But then my dad has forty I think it holds
- 45:16Speaker 12: twenty rounds, so he emptied it into the head. When
- 45:20Speaker 12: she fell over, he came over, she was still breathing.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Twenty rounds for her. Twenty rounds that he put into
- 45:28Speaker 2: the bear's head. What's that Twenty rounds is how many
- 45:32Speaker 2: times he shot the bear.
- 45:35Speaker 12: I believe, so with an adrenaline field. Father, pissed off father,
- 45:39Speaker 12: you can imagine that. Yeah, you know, he's probably clicking
- 45:42Speaker 12: until it wasn't Byron anymore.
- 45:44Speaker 2: That's that's incredible. Now, Tyler, do you think you'd be
- 45:47Speaker 2: talking to us today if you guys just had bear
- 45:50Speaker 2: spray with you?
- 45:53Speaker 10: No? Absolutely not.
- 45:56Speaker 12: No, Okay, I will say bearsfrey doesn't work in certain situations,
- 45:59Speaker 12: but this one would not have worked. I would have
- 46:01Speaker 12: been peppers or bear sprayed myself and gain mauled at
- 46:04Speaker 12: that time. I she would have went right through that.
- 46:05Speaker 12: Like I say, it was four seconds. I probably could
- 46:09Speaker 12: have got the whole story of the caster out and sprayed.
- 46:11Speaker 12: But it w'd been boom, you know. Yeah, thats hard
- 46:18Speaker 12: to say that what it weren't of.
- 46:20Speaker 2: At the end of the call here, Tyler would like
- 46:22Speaker 2: you to show us our wounds, but first let's talk
- 46:24Speaker 2: about them. How how did the recovery go immediately afterwards?
- 46:29Speaker 2: And how did you get out of that situation.
- 46:34Speaker 10: Immediately afterwards? So we went straight into the triage.
- 46:37Speaker 12: We have we bring a trauma kit whenever you go hunting,
- 46:40Speaker 12: you know as the quick clot turn of kits chest,
- 46:45Speaker 12: you know, all that, all the stuff that really comes
- 46:47Speaker 12: with a trauma kit. Looking down my leg, I remember
- 46:51Speaker 12: looking at my dad said, I think I shot myself.
- 46:53Speaker 12: Rip my pants open, realize I have a bowl hole
- 46:56Speaker 12: in my leg. We got the quick clot out, so
- 46:59Speaker 12: we were fully addressing that issue right away, because you know,
- 47:03Speaker 12: a bollhole isn't no joke, right, So we put quick
- 47:06Speaker 12: clod on there. I have rubber band, pulled it tight
- 47:09Speaker 12: the way it stayed there, and then we started going
- 47:11Speaker 12: down triage on my body. Noticed that my right leg
- 47:14Speaker 12: was filling up with blood, ripped my pants. I couldn't
- 47:16Speaker 12: see the injury, like very definitively with all the blood
- 47:20Speaker 12: around there, so we just grabbed more quick cloth, wrapped
- 47:23Speaker 12: my leg in that, wrapped it in a wrap, grabbed
- 47:26Speaker 12: the tourniquet.
- 47:27Speaker 10: Tourniquet in my leg.
- 47:28Speaker 12: I didn't even know the bear clawed me in the
- 47:30Speaker 12: side of my leg until a half hour later. The
- 47:33Speaker 12: drilling was still going through me, and I was just
- 47:35Speaker 12: focusing on keep my heart rate down, just trying to
- 47:39Speaker 12: be in the situation very calm, because panicing doesn't help anyone,
- 47:43Speaker 12: and when you panic, a heart rate goes up and
- 47:45Speaker 12: so on and so forth. So I didn't move from
- 47:48Speaker 12: that situation. Right where I fell and the bear fell,
- 47:51Speaker 12: we were right.
- 47:51Speaker 10: Next to each other for an hour and forty five minutes,
- 47:54Speaker 10: so I stayed.
- 47:55Speaker 3: Put and did you guys have an in reach with you?
- 47:59Speaker 3: Is that yep?
- 48:01Speaker 5: Oh yeah, so you had they come in with a
- 48:03Speaker 5: helicopter then and took you straight to the hospital.
- 48:05Speaker 3: I imagine.
- 48:07Speaker 12: Yep, that's exactly what they did. We had multiple helicopters
- 48:10Speaker 12: come to get come to get me RCC, their pj's
- 48:16Speaker 12: and the troopers there just you know, as a continuency.
- 48:19Speaker 12: If one were to not make it, the other one
- 48:21Speaker 12: would pick me up. So the troopers got their first
- 48:24Speaker 12: dragged me out of there on a tarp kind of
- 48:28Speaker 12: like pulled myself in there. They're like, do you want
- 48:30Speaker 12: to wait for the PJS. I was like, nah, man,
- 48:31Speaker 12: let's get out of here right.
- 48:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:34Speaker 12: So I remember the helicopter ride. It was a beautiful day.
- 48:37Speaker 12: I even said in my video. I mean in Alaska,
- 48:39Speaker 12: sixty five degrees, no clouds, Like looking around, have a
- 48:43Speaker 12: hole in my leg. It's beautiful out.
- 48:47Speaker 10: The helicopter ride, and I remember looking out like, oh
- 48:49Speaker 10: that's beautiful.
- 48:51Speaker 4: That hurts.
- 48:52Speaker 12: That's beautiful. Ah that hurts, you know, it's just yeah,
- 48:56Speaker 12: helicopter ride there.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Tyler, you got topan something that few people will ever know.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Do you now have any advice going forward something you
- 49:05Speaker 2: learned from this encounter that you'd like to share with
- 49:07Speaker 2: our listeners.
- 49:10Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, some people go hunting alone. They know
- 49:14Speaker 10: the dangers of that.
- 49:15Speaker 12: Personally, if I didn't have the partner I had at
- 49:18Speaker 12: that time, I wouldn't be here right now. There's actually
- 49:23Speaker 12: a few factors that lead up to me talking right now,
- 49:25Speaker 12: and that's having a good partner, knowing how to operate
- 49:28Speaker 12: and reach trauma kit.
- 49:31Speaker 10: On top of that, you know, like a lot of people.
- 49:32Speaker 12: Just carry you know that walmart Red, you know, mule
- 49:36Speaker 12: skin for your heels, band aids. I had dine that
- 49:41Speaker 12: tournique potentially saved my life and quick clot and everything
- 49:44Speaker 12: with that, and well having a firearm saved my life too.
- 49:50Speaker 6: So Tyler, really quick, you've got a question asking how
- 49:54Speaker 6: long you kept your tourniquet on.
- 49:57Speaker 10: Two hours?
- 49:58Speaker 12: It sucked well, but hey, pain won't kill you, but
- 50:02Speaker 12: blood loss will.
- 50:03Speaker 4: Right.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Tyler, this happened twelve days ago. Can you tell
- 50:08Speaker 2: us about the recovery process and then show us your
- 50:11Speaker 2: wounds or what you can show us.
- 50:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:13Speaker 12: Yeah, So they let me go on good behavior from
- 50:17Speaker 12: the hospital that night. I have family that lived nearby.
- 50:22Speaker 12: They were taking care of me. So I was able
- 50:24Speaker 12: to leave that day with a huge bag of bandages
- 50:29Speaker 12: and everything. They wanted to keep everything open because infection
- 50:33Speaker 12: bears don't brush their teeth or wash their hands, you know,
- 50:37Speaker 12: so they carry a lot of bacteria in that. So
- 50:40Speaker 12: I had to take antibiotics. I had pain meds for
- 50:42Speaker 12: a little bit, but stop taking those on Saturday.
- 50:46Speaker 10: You know.
- 50:47Speaker 12: Irgrofen has been working just fine for me. I'm a
- 50:50Speaker 12: little bit stubborn. So I found myself going out to
- 50:54Speaker 12: the fair and just walking around with crutches.
- 50:57Speaker 10: I'm familiar with them, so I was.
- 51:00Speaker 12: Being to quite a bit on that, and I actually
- 51:01Speaker 12: think that's why I'm healing so fast, with the blood moving,
- 51:04Speaker 12: being able to move my body and everything like that.
- 51:08Speaker 12: Right now, I have my walking stick and I can
- 51:10Speaker 12: barely get around. But you know, I'm walking with a
- 51:13Speaker 12: walking stick right now.
- 51:14Speaker 2: So and can can you show us the wounds real quick?
- 51:17Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 51:18Speaker 12: Yeah, they're they're covered up. I can't take them off
- 51:20Speaker 12: because they're open wounds.
- 51:21Speaker 4: Right.
- 51:23Speaker 10: So this is my leg where she bit into. I
- 51:26Speaker 10: got punctures here on the front, on the back.
- 51:31Speaker 4: My leg.
- 51:31Speaker 10: Right here a shot.
- 51:32Speaker 12: Let's see if I get the bullet went into here,
- 51:35Speaker 12: exit out my leg down below here, and uh, there's
- 51:39Speaker 12: just like black powder on my leg. It was so
- 51:41Speaker 12: it was probably like the muscle is probably touching my leg.
- 51:46Speaker 12: And then I got the claw right around here lower
- 51:52Speaker 12: and yeah, those are my extent of my injuries. I
- 51:54Speaker 12: feel pretty lucky that that's it, because I know they
- 51:57Speaker 12: can touch you. And then oh and she she actually
- 52:01Speaker 12: tried ripping my face off. I think my backpack actually,
- 52:04Speaker 12: because I have a frame that goes over my head.
- 52:06Speaker 12: I have claw marks on my shoulder. I think the
- 52:08Speaker 12: first thing she tried to do was bat me across
- 52:09Speaker 12: a face and I kind of went down and she
- 52:12Speaker 12: hit my backpack and went across my shoulder.
- 52:14Speaker 2: M crazy stuff. Steve Ranella is gonna be jealous that
- 52:18Speaker 2: you have those wounds and he doesn't. Uh, now you
- 52:21Speaker 2: can don't recommend your story. Yeah, yeah, you can read
- 52:24Speaker 2: our story and see pictures of Tyler Woon Tyler's wounds
- 52:28Speaker 2: at the mediater dot com. The article was written by
- 52:30Speaker 2: Jordan Sillers and it's called brown bear attack leaves Alaskan
- 52:33Speaker 2: hunter with bite and bullet wounds. Tyler, thanks for joining us,
- 52:36Speaker 2: and next time you get scratched it by a grizzly.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Let us know, and you'll be on the show.
- 52:40Speaker 4: Again right on.
- 52:42Speaker 10: Thanks guys, than Styler.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Joanni, you had a close encounter in Alaska. It's one
- 52:49Speaker 2: of my favorite podcasts ever, The Meat Tree. How how
- 52:53Speaker 2: how close do you think like that situation was to
- 52:57Speaker 2: being like what Tyler.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Experienced as close as you can get. I guess if that.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Bear just had like a slightly different attitude that day,
- 53:07Speaker 2: it might have went the same same way.
- 53:10Speaker 1: I mean, it's just so hard to say, but I mean,
- 53:13Speaker 1: we had a bear literally in between six humans that
- 53:19Speaker 1: was most likely trying to run us off of the
- 53:22Speaker 1: meat that we had stashed in that tree the day before.
- 53:25Speaker 1: So yeah, I think that we were I don't know
- 53:28Speaker 1: how to put it, milliseconds or just you know, one
- 53:34Speaker 1: not connected swing of the poles to the bear's head maybe,
- 53:39Speaker 1: I don't know, hard to say, but yeah, And.
- 53:42Speaker 2: It seems like he agreed with the Gray or with
- 53:44Speaker 2: the gray there that the bear came in loud and
- 53:47Speaker 2: the attack was like quite audible, Yes, which is what
- 53:51Speaker 2: something I critiqued in the Gray. Now we're gonna move on.
- 53:54Speaker 2: The next thing we're doing is giving our top three
- 53:58Speaker 2: states that we'd like to own a hunting property. And
- 54:01Speaker 2: this is the last segment that we'll do for today.
- 54:04Speaker 2: And boys, I'm gonna go first the number three state
- 54:07Speaker 2: that I'd like to own a hunting property in Illinois.
- 54:12Speaker 1: Oh, hold on, you're ranking them, ranking them.
- 54:15Speaker 2: That's all right, you just had a random list over there.
- 54:17Speaker 1: Well, I picked like the three the three, Okay, I
- 54:20Speaker 1: have reasons for each three.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Well, while I tell you why I like Illinois, you
- 54:24Speaker 2: figure out what you're one, two and three. Illinois is
- 54:27Speaker 2: a two bucks state, which I love. They had the
- 54:29Speaker 2: second most Boon and Crockett entries in the country. Two
- 54:31Speaker 2: of the six biggest white tails of all time were killed.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Their average price per acre of land in Illinois nine
- 54:37Speaker 2: five hundred and eighty dollars. That makes it some of
- 54:39Speaker 2: the most expensive ground in the country. For context, the
- 54:42Speaker 2: average price per acre in Texas is two thousand, five
- 54:44Speaker 2: hundred dollars and in Montana it's one thousand dollars. So
- 54:48Speaker 2: you're just like, good bang for your buck. If I'm
- 54:50Speaker 2: picking somewhere to inherit property at, it's gonna be Illinois.
- 54:53Speaker 2: And their gun seasons take place after the rut, which
- 54:55Speaker 2: for a state managing for giant deer. That's the right move.
- 54:58Speaker 2: So I really like that their gun seasons don't stick
- 55:00Speaker 2: art until late November. Gives bow hunters a chance to
- 55:03Speaker 2: haunt the bus the best days of the rut. And
- 55:05Speaker 2: if I could put my hunting land anywhere in the state,
- 55:07Speaker 2: I put it right in the Golden Triangle of white
- 55:08Speaker 2: tails in western Illinois, which is the intersection of Pike,
- 55:12Speaker 2: Brown and Adams County. Number three Illinois. Yanni, what is
- 55:17Speaker 2: your third state that you would like to own? Hunting property?
- 55:20Speaker 1: In Mississippi for the furthest sake that I just want
- 55:26Speaker 1: to extend my turkey and deer season. Yeah, so I
- 55:29Speaker 1: would get to start hunting turkeys a little bit earlier
- 55:32Speaker 1: and then I would hunt deer a little bit later.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Yeah, they probably got a deer season into like February
- 55:36Speaker 2: down there, Mississippi, and I think ever since they went
- 55:39Speaker 2: to their Antler Point restriction, they were kind of like
- 55:42Speaker 2: one of the golden examples for the rest of the country.
- 55:44Speaker 2: It made a huge difference for the quality of deer
- 55:47Speaker 2: that they harvest there. Randal your number three.
- 55:50Speaker 5: State going out in left field here, California, whoa explain?
- 55:55Speaker 5: Just trying to be prerogative, but the season that it
- 55:59Speaker 5: would expand my season pigs. I would love a place
- 56:03Speaker 5: where I could hunt pigs. Ye, do a little wine country,
- 56:06Speaker 5: you know. I just it'd be good for the whole family.
- 56:09Speaker 2: Would your hunting property have an orchard on it?
- 56:11Speaker 5: I'm thinking so a vineyard, Okay, yeah, but yeah, I
- 56:15Speaker 5: mean it's a lovely place to visit. You can maybe
- 56:18Speaker 5: uh maybe be strategically located so you could do a
- 56:21Speaker 5: bit of fishing as well.
- 56:22Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 56:23Speaker 1: I could see you in a big old vat of grapes,
- 56:25Speaker 1: maybe stripped down to not much and just jumping up
- 56:29Speaker 1: and down.
- 56:29Speaker 4: You can.
- 56:31Speaker 2: Mashing them with his toes. Now, Phil, I'm about to
- 56:34Speaker 2: read my number two. Do you have a little sounder
- 56:35Speaker 2: to play over there after I announce what my state is?
- 56:39Speaker 1: You know, I was.
- 56:40Speaker 6: I made one. Well, and it's it's too long, Okay,
- 56:43Speaker 6: So I can just do the the trivia Winter South
- 56:46Speaker 6: if you want the.
- 56:48Speaker 2: Numbers two state. I'd like to own a hunting property
- 56:51Speaker 2: in Kentucky. Kentucky has an amazing mix of egg timber
- 56:56Speaker 2: and topography that's pretty unique to that part of the country.
- 56:59Speaker 2: The hill come tree is awesome because eighty acres in Kentucky,
- 57:02Speaker 2: like in that part of the world that hunts a
- 57:04Speaker 2: way bigger than eighty acres in most places. It's sort
- 57:07Speaker 2: of where the Midwest ends and the South begins. You
- 57:09Speaker 2: happen to be getting the best of both worlds there.
- 57:11Speaker 2: In my opinion, they have one of the longest archery
- 57:13Speaker 2: seasons in the nation, goes from early September to late January,
- 57:17Speaker 2: just similar to what you liked about Mississippi. Because of
- 57:19Speaker 2: that early September opener, you have a chance at velvet Buck.
- 57:22Speaker 2: They have some of the best fall weather in the country.
- 57:25Speaker 2: I'm convinced of that. You still get like frost in
- 57:28Speaker 2: the morning, but you're not gonna freeze your butt off.
- 57:29Speaker 2: They have the sixth most boone and crocket whitetail entries
- 57:32Speaker 2: in the nation, which is more than states like Texas, Missouri,
- 57:35Speaker 2: and Kansas. And you can kill multiple turkeys there during
- 57:37Speaker 2: the spring and fall seasons. They have the sixth biggest
- 57:40Speaker 2: turkey population in the United States. My number two pick
- 57:44Speaker 2: is Kentucky. Yanni your number.
- 57:46Speaker 1: Two, I'm gonna go with Montana. The reason it's not
- 57:50Speaker 1: number one is because one of the reasons I live
- 57:54Speaker 1: here is we have so much public land us, right,
- 57:56Speaker 1: And it's true for a lot of Western states and
- 57:59Speaker 1: so and if I was to get some hunting property,
- 58:03Speaker 1: like I wouldn't even be really needed so much to
- 58:06Speaker 1: hunt the property, but I would make sure that it
- 58:08Speaker 1: backs up to some hard to get to public Yeah.
- 58:14Speaker 1: So just give me like a little bit of a
- 58:15Speaker 1: head start, you know, maybe by five to ten miles
- 58:18Speaker 1: from the nearest trailheads.
- 58:20Speaker 5: And of course you'd offer that access to any interested
- 58:23Speaker 5: member of the public.
- 58:24Speaker 1: It's probably wine.
- 58:26Speaker 3: Okay, Oh I like that.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Okay, with buttering, I got I got corn for you boys. Randal,
- 58:32Speaker 2: your number two stay, you'd like to own a hunting property.
- 58:35Speaker 5: Well, this is a little embarrassing, but my number two
- 58:37Speaker 5: state is also Kentucky.
- 58:39Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, tell me why I.
- 58:40Speaker 5: Grew up in Cincinnati. Kentucky's just across the river. I
- 58:45Speaker 5: think one of the great things about owning a hunting
- 58:47Speaker 5: property is you can share it with people that you know.
- 58:50Speaker 5: And so I would say, ohio.
- 58:52Speaker 2: U huh, but there's too many people you know there.
- 58:54Speaker 5: I love center fire rifles, shooting bottleneck cartridges, yep, and
- 58:59Speaker 5: Kentucky's and rifle season allows that.
- 59:01Speaker 3: Ohios. The straight wall state.
- 59:02Speaker 5: And as you said, the hunting I've done in Kentucky
- 59:05Speaker 5: on eighty acres killed a couple of nice bucks, and
- 59:09Speaker 5: it's just like in my mind when I picture deer hunting. Yep,
- 59:12Speaker 5: it's like those days in Kentucky.
- 59:14Speaker 6: We have a bunch of people chiming in in the
- 59:16Speaker 6: comments about their top threes. I don't think a single
- 59:18Speaker 6: person has said Kentucky.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Okay, well, me and Randall, that land will get cheaper
- 59:23Speaker 2: than for us. Randall there because there's less competition. Now
- 59:26Speaker 2: before we do number one, I'm going to tell you
- 59:27Speaker 2: my honorable mentions. Texas it's just a great state for
- 59:30Speaker 2: white tails. They got the hog or other exotics that
- 59:32Speaker 2: may walk by at any given moment. The entire Great Plains,
- 59:35Speaker 2: the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, it's just like my favorite
- 59:38Speaker 2: part of the country to hunt white tales. I'd love
- 59:40Speaker 2: to have a hunting property there. It's also America's duck
- 59:42Speaker 2: factory with the prairie potholes. And then Tennessee for all
- 59:45Speaker 2: the same reasons I love Kentucky. Great weather, one of
- 59:48Speaker 2: the earliest deer openers in the country. It's just overlooked
- 59:51Speaker 2: for big Bucks. But here is my number one, Yanni,
- 59:53Speaker 2: based on what you know about me? What do you
- 59:55Speaker 2: think my number one state is.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: South Dakota.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: No, Yahni, you're taking two.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Judges by I judge by the fact that you've been
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: so one track minded with your first two with white tails.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: It's gonna have to be a white tail state. Okay,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: maybe it will be Texas.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: My number one state is Iowa. Texas was an honorable
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: mention though. Now a lot of things that I loved
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: about Illinois the same for Iowa. It's a two bucks state,
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: which I'm super jealous of. I wish Montana was that
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: they have the third most boone and crocket whitetail entries
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: in the country. And that's so impressive because when you
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: consider that Iowa isn't even the top twenty states for
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: harvesting the most deer, so they're like twenty second overall
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: and deer harvest, but third overall in boone and crocket
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: deer harvest. Three of the top twenty boone and crocket
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: producing countries are in Iowa. Just like Illinois. Their land
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: prices are outrageous, over ten thousand dollars an acre, and
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: if I could put my land anywhere be in southern Iowa,
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: so then it could be I could be neighbors with
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: some of the most famous big buck killers in the world,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: like the Druries, the la Coski's and Bill Winki.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Have little picnics with the guys.
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: That would be assuming you're a resident, right, because as
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: a non resident you might not.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: Every every four year, tails Randall, if I if I
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: win the lottery, first thing I'm doing is buying a
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: big old farm in southern Iowa. Yanni, you have to
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: I could live in Des Moines. Yeah, like Ames, sure,
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: I could live in Iowa. You talked me and do it.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Yanni your number two.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I'm just saying, be crazy to own a farm there
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: and only hunt there every six years. Be nuts.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: They certainly have non resident landowner permits. That's the thing,
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: you know, I'd be guaranteed one. Maybe it's not a
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: two bucks state anymore if you're a non resident with land,
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: but if you're a non resident with land, you're going
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: to get some non resident tag. Yanni your number two state,
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: no number one, number one state. I'm sorry you're number
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: one state.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: I'm going with Wisconsin already have already have some land there.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: I don't know where they rank on the number of
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Boone and Crocket number one number. Okay, there you go,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: so a good reason there, Yep, A lot of reasons.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: I already owned some land. A lot of nostalgia there
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: for me. I've been hunting there since I was ten
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: or eleven years old. I would love to add to it.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: We're in what I would consider hill country. So just
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: like you said, it hunts bigger. What else did I
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: have for reasons here?
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: And if I'm not mistaken Yan either also number one
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: for black bear Boone and Crockett entry, so number one
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: for black bear and white tails big old bears.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I just have a lot
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: of connection to it, and so I would just like
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: to expand, you know, with what I would would own
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: there and just really get into the the deer farm.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: And practically Yanni over here wants land where he lives
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: and where he hunts. Randall your number one state.
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: Gosh, you know, going last, I feel like all my
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: thunder's being stolen. My number one and state is Montana, Okay,
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: honorable mentions would be somewhere nearby in Idaho or Wyoming.
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: Because when I think about having a piece of land.
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: The number one thing I'd want to be able to
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: do is go to it frequently and have a relationship
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: with it and visit it throughout the year. So I
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: wouldn't want to be an absentee landowner.
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: Sure well, et cetera. Et cetera. Could either be like
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: a cabin as a base camp. It could provide some access.
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: To public it could be a river bottom spot where
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: you can do some fishing and go swim the dogs
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: in the summer and then hunt white tails in the fall.
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: But there's just you know, if I had something, i'd
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: want to use it. So Montana preferably within three and
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: a half hours.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Of my house.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and like Yanni had said before, the reason I
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: left any Western state off my laces. We're just blessed
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: to live in a place and has a lot of
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: public land, So I'm gonna I'm gonna take land some
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: other state that doesn't. Those were our top three states
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: that we'd like to own hunting property. And let us
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: know in the comments if you agree or disagree, or if.
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: You'd like to help us invest in land in any
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: one of these high priced states, or.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: If you've got a sweet property in Kentucky that maybe
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: let me come hunt.
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it's worth the shock.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: That's it for today's show.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: But before we leave here, Phil, let's go over some
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: listener feedback.
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: Yeah, just to piggyback on that last one. I don't
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: know if you guys have if you want to give
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: us your top one. How about fishing Camp States?
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Oh, fishing Camp States. I don't know. Steve's is pretty
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: convincing in Alaska. I don't know if I could argue.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Yeah, although you know he's been talking about you know,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: he calls that place fish Shack North, and I think
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: he's been recently talking about fish Sack Shack South out
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: of Venice, Louisiana, which you know, it would be a
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: great time to drop in that we still have spots
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: mails for meat eater experiences. Today is the last day
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: to book if you want to fish with folks like
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: Randall myself. Are you coming down? Won't be there, Spencer's
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: not coming down, Steve's Runella is gonna be there.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: Maybe that's a bonus for some people that I won't
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: be there.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: So now Karina and Phil will be there.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: Yeah, podcasts, Yeah, we're me doing anyways, Meetia experiences. If
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: you're looking for a good time early October, we're going
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: down there where Steve is considering having fish sheck South
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: at some point in his life for me fishing, Uh geez.
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Maybe North Carolina like Outer Banks. Okay, I know that
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I I would have to say Alaska.
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: But if that were off the table lower forty eight,
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: I'd go north Woods of Minnesota.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: You know what I talked to myself out of Alaska
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: in the last minute. I was gonna say, Minnesota.
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: Big mosquito, guy, Yep, big mosquito.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: It's their state bird.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: And now that Karrent has made her presence known, let's
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: see Saxton ask or says it would be cool to
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: have segments on the show where they use the Werner
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: Bratsler sheer test machine.
- 1:05:50Speaker 9: I man, my man, because there are plans in the
- 1:05:55Speaker 9: works for that.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: It's gonna happen. It's gonna happen, Saxton.
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: And for those of you who are unaware of what
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: a Werner Bratzler share is, it is an instrument used
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: to measure the toughness of.
- 1:06:09Speaker 9: Meat right by official meat scientists.
- 1:06:12Speaker 6: Else Phil, let's see, Steven, this is going back to
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: Spencer's or chettiquet question, We've got a comment from a
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: Steven Runella setting a great example. Steve says, I tell
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: young folks that they need to set a strong precedent
- 1:06:24Speaker 6: when starting a new relationship, even if they don't have
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: anywhere to go, just sleep in a buddy's garage to
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: show you your partner that you're gone a lot. What
- 1:06:32Speaker 6: do you guys think about that?
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: I have a feeling that's actually earnest wisdom from Steve
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: that he would suggest you do. I maybe wouldn't.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: What do you think, Yanni, No, I've heard him give
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: that advice many times, and uh yeah, it's a tricky
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: one because hopefully you just are gone a lot because
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: you're doing stuff and you don't have to be attached
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: at the hip, at your at your with your special
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: other per But so I guess if, like in the future,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: your plan on being around more than yeah.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: You should do what Steve says an easier solution. It's
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: what me and Randall have done. Don't have children. There's
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: less pressure to be at home when there's no little
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: people there who rely on and.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: Take your wife hunting.
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: That's right, that's very true. Oh hey, Nick asks if
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: your guy, you guys are gonna do any hunting. During
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: the Tailgate tour.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: Yanni was fixing to do some squirrel hunting. Randal and
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: I are fixing to do some fishing, maybe for bass
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: or walleye, and I am so jealous. I have heard
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: that Clay Nukom and Brent Reeves are getting on a
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: very special boat when they go to I think it's Tennessee.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: I don't want to say who it is in case
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: that falls apart. Let me tell you it's like a
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: childhood dream to think about fishing with that person. I
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: think we'll find out soon enough.
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: And we will happen.
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: We will be in ann Arbor. We fly out a
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: week from today, so we will be in ann Arbor
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: next Saturday.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Football season's already started.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: It started last week was week zero, and tonight there
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: are a handful of games on, including a big one
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: between North Dakota State and the University of Colorado, highly anticipated. Yanni,
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: I think it's on ESPN tonight.
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: So we will be in ann Arbor, Texas at Michigan.
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: Spencer and I will be there, will be playing some trivia,
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: We'll be hanging out, we'll be recording trivia, and yeah,
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: please stop buy for in the area or if you're
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: just outside of the area and you feel like making
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: a drive, because I think we'll be having a good time.
- 1:08:35Speaker 6: Last question for doctor Randall Daniel's asking, is there a
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: bear on the highway?
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: Not today, it's been rough out there for the fawns.
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: In all seriousness, it's pretty tragic comedy animals get killed
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: on my community to work. But yeah, I haven't seen
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: a bear since the one last week, which is good
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: bye me.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Maybe Randall will hit one on his way home.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: I'll let you know.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: That'd be really good content. So I don't know. Maybe
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: don't swerve if it.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: If it happens, Randall, sure, hush, no, that's I got
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: a new truck.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: I can't around with.
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: Meat Eater radio. We'll see you guys the same time,
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: in same place, one week from now.
