- 0:02Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports here, a daily bringing you the
- 0:05Speaker 1: Folkstone on High sports show right here on Radio Folkston.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Now.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Last week I've managed to cramp four guests in and
- 0:18Speaker 1: it was a really busy show. So today it's no
- 0:22Speaker 1: guest show, but plenty of local content. We shall be
- 0:31Speaker 1: mentioning the following folks in Invictor Football Club, High Town
- 0:35Speaker 1: Football Club, Hawkins and New Romney Football clubs and folks
- 0:38Speaker 1: in Invictor Disability Football Club. We've got a recap of
- 0:48Speaker 1: Folkston Cricket Club Junior and Women's Award. Tonight news about
- 0:52Speaker 1: Folks and Optimist Hockey Club, Folks and Arrows, Wheelchair Basketball Club,
- 0:57Speaker 1: Folks and Rugby Club. We've got some running news, news
- 1:04Speaker 1: about a charity bike ride from the Hive Lawn Tennis Club,
- 1:07Speaker 1: lose about a new venture called the Plot Squad, and
- 1:10Speaker 1: a little shout out for Pathos Running Club. Did I
- 1:16Speaker 1: tell you I'm off to Sunny Cypress next month? Well,
- 1:21Speaker 1: I might just be reminding you once or twice before
- 1:23Speaker 1: I fly off. Anyway, Are you ready for this? Buckle
- 1:37Speaker 1: up and turn the volume up loud for this belter
- 1:40Speaker 1: starting out of local sports and music with the begs.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Get your flares on. Here we go nineteen seventy six.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I expect some of you that weren't even born there,
- 2:49Speaker 1: But what an era, disco era? And I've I've just
- 2:53Speaker 1: taken off, just changed out of my white suit and
- 2:55Speaker 1: flayed trousers. And I suppose I better get on with
- 2:58Speaker 1: some sports, shouldn't I? Ruddioh. Let's start with some football, well, folks.
- 3:03Speaker 1: In Victor's hope of a giant killing in the FA
- 3:05Speaker 1: Cup ended when they were beaten for to one at
- 3:08Speaker 1: South End United. Sounds like South End took control early on,
- 3:11Speaker 1: going in three nil at halftime, being Victor scored early
- 3:15Speaker 1: on in the second half and it looked like the
- 3:17Speaker 1: fight back was on. However, unfortunate and unfortunate wicked double
- 3:21Speaker 1: deflection of Joela Denneran and Kevin Locko saw the ball
- 3:25Speaker 1: flying to the net to make it for one and
- 3:27Speaker 1: there was no turning back. Now. Tune in on Saturday
- 3:30Speaker 1: to hear the full story from our man at the ground,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Ady Dawks. However, there's still plenty to look forward to,
- 3:36Speaker 1: as in Victor play at home on Saturday for the
- 3:38Speaker 1: first time this season on their new artificial pitch against
- 3:42Speaker 1: Dullige Hamlet three pm kickoff, so get down there. Iftown
- 3:47Speaker 1: lost three nil at home to Sutton Athletic in the
- 3:49Speaker 1: Kent Senior Trophy and this week is at home again
- 3:52Speaker 1: in the FA VAS, this time against peace Haven and Telscombe,
- 3:56Speaker 1: who are currently tenth in the Sussex County Premier League.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Their next Tuesday evening is back to league action away
- 4:03Speaker 1: against Bearsteed in the NLG Kent County League. Hawkish Town
- 4:07Speaker 1: were knocked out of the Interregional Challenge Cup three to
- 4:10Speaker 1: one by AMG Ballers, who come from Southeast London. New
- 4:15Speaker 1: Romney picked up three points at home with a three
- 4:17Speaker 1: to win over Gura Nanak. Cup time again for New
- 4:20Speaker 1: Romney on Saturday, this time the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield.
- 4:24Speaker 1: When they're at home this time to Bocker Juniors. Now
- 4:28Speaker 1: I'm not quite sure and where they come from Bocker Juniors,
- 4:31Speaker 1: but they play their football in a one division below
- 4:33Speaker 1: New Romney and play their home games at Selling Sports Ground,
- 4:37Speaker 1: so they must be pretty locals. So please someone tell
- 4:40Speaker 1: me where I should think they might be? Ashford, you know,
- 4:42Speaker 1: so tell me where Bocker Juniors come from. I couldn't
- 4:46Speaker 1: find a fixture for Hawkins as they were knocked out
- 4:48Speaker 1: of this cup in early round. So I decided to
- 4:52Speaker 1: track down the reserve sides of New Romney and Hawkins
- 4:54Speaker 1: and found out that New Rodney second team playing the
- 4:57Speaker 1: Ashford and District Premier Division and are not doing so well. Unfortunately,
- 5:01Speaker 1: in the last game they were beaten five nil by
- 5:03Speaker 1: William Harvey FC, who are currently top of the table. However,
- 5:07Speaker 1: there are only seven teams in this league and the
- 5:10Speaker 1: second team are bottom, having played for but not yet
- 5:13Speaker 1: won a game. This Saturday they're away to Bromley Green
- 5:16Speaker 1: and the Wielder Kent Charity Cup. Meanwhile, Hawkins's second team
- 5:19Speaker 1: we are in Division one of the Ashford League. On
- 5:22Speaker 1: Saturday they beat Lena Wanderer's reserves one nil in a
- 5:25Speaker 1: league fixture, putting them in eighth position out of nine teams.
- 5:29Speaker 1: This Saturday they're a way to wood Church Reserves, also
- 5:32Speaker 1: in the cup. Now do you know what, there's no
- 5:35Speaker 1: folks on Saturday league. If you want to play very
- 5:38Speaker 1: local football with a new team if you like, you
- 5:40Speaker 1: have to join the league in either Ashford or Dover,
- 5:43Speaker 1: and there's no Sunday Football League. I can't believe it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: In Folkston, you know it's a massive shame, as Sunday
- 5:49Speaker 1: morning football was like just something setting stone on the calendar.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Wasn't it Go out for a few beers Saturday night,
- 5:55Speaker 1: turn up with a hangover on a Sunday morning, dan
- 5:58Speaker 1: a polar field or over the stadium and a game
- 6:01Speaker 1: of football. Some of the lads that have a fag
- 6:03Speaker 1: at halftime. You know, it was just tradition. But at
- 6:07Speaker 1: one time Folkston had enough. They had three divisions and
- 6:11Speaker 1: the top division was a pretty good standard. This was
- 6:13Speaker 1: back in the days before Folks, Before players who played
- 6:17Speaker 1: for teams such as Folks and Dover and Hive could
- 6:19Speaker 1: turn out on a Sunday morning. But not anymore. They've
- 6:22Speaker 1: all got contracts and stuff like that and still never mind.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Things change. So but if you really want to get
- 6:29Speaker 1: a game, then yeah, you've just got to find a
- 6:31Speaker 1: team and you might have to travel to Ashford or
- 6:34Speaker 1: Dover to play. Now this next song actually, to be fair,
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm going to dedicate this to folks in Victor Football Club.
- 6:43Speaker 1: They've been playing all season away away from home, they've
- 6:47Speaker 1: had no home ground and their fans have been so patient,
- 6:51Speaker 1: so loyal. Some of them I've spoken to have admitted
- 6:55Speaker 1: that they're just getting fed up every Saturday traveling. Well
- 6:57Speaker 1: that's all over now because this Saturday they are at
- 7:01Speaker 1: home Alien and I will be talking about it on Saturday,
- 7:04Speaker 1: no doubt. Their big homecoming is on Saturday when their
- 7:09Speaker 1: first fixture on the new artificial pitch takes place against
- 7:13Speaker 1: Dullish Hamlet at three pm. Now get yourselves down there
- 7:16Speaker 1: besides a new pitch. Which first thing you will think
- 7:20Speaker 1: and say to yourself is on my word, that's a
- 7:22Speaker 1: bit small, but there you go. It's obviously due to
- 7:26Speaker 1: the fact the recent focusing in picture focused in Victure pitch,
- 7:30Speaker 1: the grass one was massive, you know, it was always
- 7:34Speaker 1: referred to as the big pitch. Anyway, this is a
- 7:37Speaker 1: song for all the spectators and folksing in Victor that
- 7:40Speaker 1: will be turning up and supporting the lads on This
- 7:43Speaker 1: is called from Sophielli Specster, Take me Home, Sophie Ellispecsta
- 8:13Speaker 1: and that's all the folks that in Victor fans that
- 8:17Speaker 1: will be there on Saturday, Take me home to Sheridan Road.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Now I popped down to the club during the week
- 8:28Speaker 1: and they went into the PA box and just fired
- 8:30Speaker 1: up the PA system because it hasn't been used well,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I don't know well ages and ages now so last
- 8:36Speaker 1: season plus all of this season, and sure enough it
- 8:40Speaker 1: fired up extremely well. And that is a big thank
- 8:43Speaker 1: you to Matt Curtis there. And he put in the
- 8:47Speaker 1: new set of speakers just all about in the middle
- 8:50Speaker 1: of last season actually, and they are still standing up
- 8:53Speaker 1: to the task now. As I say, if you go
- 8:55Speaker 1: down the ground, the first thing you say is cool,
- 8:57Speaker 1: the pitch looks small, but it must be. It must
- 8:59Speaker 1: be stand at fa size. It's only because the pitch
- 9:03Speaker 1: that they played on for so many years, and I've
- 9:06Speaker 1: played on it a few times and if you played
- 9:08Speaker 1: on the big pitch as we used to call it,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you knew that it was just you know, some of
- 9:13Speaker 1: the goal is loose to kick the ball and it's
- 9:15Speaker 1: just just hardly make the off way line. The pitch
- 9:17Speaker 1: for so big. Anyway, welcome back to Cheriton Road and
- 9:20Speaker 1: I'll be chatting with Ady on Saturday and then we
- 9:23Speaker 1: will both be in the PA box at Folksing in
- 9:25Speaker 1: Victor on Saturday afternoon. So we've got some cricket news
- 9:29Speaker 1: and I'm just going to recap really because last week
- 9:31Speaker 1: I had four guests on the show Sarah Green will Tie,
- 9:35Speaker 1: Malcolm Porter and Olwin Fernandez, all from the Folks and
- 9:38Speaker 1: Cricket Club. Now, this was just one day ahead of
- 9:41Speaker 1: their Junior and Women's awards even at the Three Hills,
- 9:44Speaker 1: I was asked to go along as guest speaker to
- 9:46Speaker 1: announce that the club had been awarded the most inclusive
- 9:49Speaker 1: community cricket club in Kent for twenty twenty five. And
- 9:53Speaker 1: this is because at Folks and Cricket Club, nobody is
- 9:56Speaker 1: left out, offering cricket for all ages, genders and abilities.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Now they run five senior teams, a thriving junior section,
- 10:05Speaker 1: the growing girls section, a newly formed of women's section,
- 10:08Speaker 1: plus walking and disability cricket. Now it was a packed
- 10:12Speaker 1: fun field evening as team coaches got up and recapped
- 10:15Speaker 1: their season and presented their awards, the parents showing great
- 10:18Speaker 1: appreciation to the award winners. Now, I mean it was
- 10:22Speaker 1: really good fun and you can see why, after all
- 10:24Speaker 1: those sections of cricket that they won this award. So
- 10:29Speaker 1: if you want to find out any more about any
- 10:31Speaker 1: sections of the club, they've got a Facebook page and
- 10:34Speaker 1: on that Facebook page there is a link to their website.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But if you want to just send an email is
- 10:39Speaker 1: dead easy info at folkstoncc dot com. Now, another massive
- 10:45Speaker 1: club that's grown over the years since three Hills has
- 10:48Speaker 1: been active is the Hockey Club. Well, for the first
- 10:51Speaker 1: time this season, Folks and Optimists actually fielded fourteen teams
- 10:55Speaker 1: without any buys or cancelation. That means at least one
- 10:58Speaker 1: hundred and fifty four players stepped out representing the club,
- 11:03Speaker 1: that number rising when you include substitutes. And it was
- 11:06Speaker 1: a good weekend. Some of it up briefly. They played
- 11:10Speaker 1: fourteen games, they had nine wins, they lost four games,
- 11:14Speaker 1: and they drew one. The goal scored four was thirty
- 11:18Speaker 1: nine and the goals against was twenty eight. So that
- 11:22Speaker 1: gave former guest to the show media guru Amy Bumstad
- 11:25Speaker 1: plenty to write about. Now, the good news is that
- 11:28Speaker 1: both the men's and the ladies' first teams won their games.
- 11:31Speaker 1: So here's a quick round up, if you could call
- 11:33Speaker 1: it quick, of all fourteen games. And that's the first
- 11:36Speaker 1: for me. You've never done read out fourteen hockey's goals
- 11:40Speaker 1: on a program. So here we go. Right, we start
- 11:43Speaker 1: the men's where they had a good three to win
- 11:45Speaker 1: at Horsham. Jamie Miller Hastings scoring twice and Josh Clifford
- 11:50Speaker 1: getting the third. The second team unfortunately they lost seven
- 11:53Speaker 1: to one to Blackheath, Steve Timmings getting this solitary goal.
- 11:57Speaker 1: The men's fourteen are sorry. The men's third team they
- 12:01Speaker 1: beat Hulcombe five to two, Jack Timmins getting two goals,
- 12:04Speaker 1: Sam Ireland, Ben Allen and Tom Jones getting the others.
- 12:08Speaker 1: The men's fourteen they beat Herne Bay four nil, Arthur Ireland,
- 12:12Speaker 1: Charlie Pepper, Johnny Benson and Jude File getting the goals.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Men's fifteen they had a great win. They won six
- 12:19Speaker 1: to one. Ben Taylor he got two, Joe Allen got one,
- 12:22Speaker 1: Ross Dreiber Raser, Maandini and Paul Andrews got one each.
- 12:27Speaker 1: The men's sixteen they beat seven Oaks five to one.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Listen to this ten day Nikkia he got four goals
- 12:33Speaker 1: and Steve Rye got the other one. Men's seventh team
- 12:38Speaker 1: they beat Canterbury Friars three to two, Matt Carter getting
- 12:42Speaker 1: twice scored twice, Adam noldone he got one, and the
- 12:46Speaker 1: men's eighth team unfortunately they lost four to one, Isaac
- 12:50Speaker 1: Stone getting the single goal. Switching on to the Ladies.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Now they had a good day. They beat Seven Oaks
- 12:55Speaker 1: one nil thanks to a goal from Steph Mill. The
- 12:58Speaker 1: Ladies second team they won three and listen to this,
- 13:01Speaker 1: two goals by former guest of the show Adrian Rowe
- 13:05Speaker 1: and one from Demi Broom. Ladies thirdeen what that actually
- 13:09Speaker 1: drew and all these winnings and losers, there's a drawer
- 13:13Speaker 1: And that was against gore Court. That was one all
- 13:16Speaker 1: and that was a goal scored by Vicki Baxter, another
- 13:19Speaker 1: former guest of the show. Ladies fourteen they lost two
- 13:22Speaker 1: to one to bbhc Abby Hopkins getting the goal, and
- 13:26Speaker 1: the Ladies fifteen they lost to one as well, this
- 13:29Speaker 1: time Seven Oaks, Susie Hill getting the goal. But ending
- 13:33Speaker 1: on a high. The Women's sixteen they got off the
- 13:36Speaker 1: mark with a goal, winning four to two against Sitting Born,
- 13:41Speaker 1: Rona Fryer, Emmy Richie getting the goals and Janet Fuller
- 13:45Speaker 1: scoring twice. So there we go. Well, what a great
- 13:49Speaker 1: great weekend there must have been for the folks and optimists,
- 13:53Speaker 1: all fourteen teams playing the first time ever. Okay, moving
- 13:57Speaker 1: on now from nineteen ninety six, we've got the Lightning
- 13:59Speaker 1: Sea and Sugar Coated Iceberg from nineteen ninety six. They're
- 14:25Speaker 1: as sugar Coated Iceberg by the Lightning Seeds. I don't
- 14:30Speaker 1: think that's one of their better songs to you, but
- 14:34Speaker 1: nice and nice and melodic, wasn't it? Okay? This is
- 14:38Speaker 1: Kevin Daily, Kevin's Sports Ferite Daily here on radio folks
- 14:41Speaker 1: and bring you the Folkston and Hive Sports Show. And
- 14:44Speaker 1: so I'm just gonna mention a little bit about the
- 14:47Speaker 1: wheelchair basketball team now before we go on to another
- 14:50Speaker 1: classic track. I want to get this get in first,
- 14:52Speaker 1: because I'll tell you about it in a minute. Folkston Arrows. Unfortunately,
- 14:57Speaker 1: they suffered a heavy defeat as they came to as
- 15:00Speaker 1: they come to terms playing at a higher level after
- 15:03Speaker 1: being promoted last year when they lost eighty two points
- 15:06Speaker 1: to thirteen to top of the table Aylesbury Aces. They
- 15:10Speaker 1: go again on Saturday when they welcome Cardiff met Artists
- 15:13Speaker 1: to the marsh Academy Leisure Center. Now the Arrow's second team,
- 15:16Speaker 1: Yes they've got a second team. They're in action on
- 15:18Speaker 1: Sunday when they're away to Hampshire Harriers, which means a
- 15:22Speaker 1: long early start, a long trip to Southampton for a
- 15:25Speaker 1: ten thirty start. They do do some traveling. I've said
- 15:28Speaker 1: this before about these wheelchair guys. You know they are
- 15:33Speaker 1: dedicated some of their trips. I mean the team coming
- 15:35Speaker 1: down to play. The first team are coming down from
- 15:38Speaker 1: a Cardiff and the second team we've got to go
- 15:41Speaker 1: to Southampton. And remember they're not professional, So if anybody
- 15:44Speaker 1: can ever help them out sponsoring them, then just go
- 15:49Speaker 1: on their Facebook page of Folks and Arrows Wheelchair Basketball
- 15:52Speaker 1: and they'd love to have you just help them out.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Now and then, now speaking to Ben Potter recently, and
- 15:59Speaker 1: we're looking at out to find a date when Ben
- 16:02Speaker 1: and his wife Becky come back into the show studio
- 16:06Speaker 1: for a chat. Okay, now, listen this next one. I
- 16:09Speaker 1: want to get it in quick really with this one,
- 16:10Speaker 1: because it'll soon be Halloween, won't it, And we will
- 16:13Speaker 1: hear this song back to back, so I want to
- 16:16Speaker 1: get it in quick before you get totally fed up
- 16:18Speaker 1: with it. I am hoping if all comes off, I
- 16:22Speaker 1: shall be at two Spooky Park runs for Halloween, so
- 16:27Speaker 1: even I can find myself playing this one. Michael Jackson
- 16:56Speaker 1: there so how many times will we hear that between
- 17:01Speaker 1: now and Halloween? Do you know what I'll be playing
- 17:03Speaker 1: it a few times, that is for sure. Right, Okay,
- 17:07Speaker 1: some rugby news. Now, Folks in Rugby club had a
- 17:09Speaker 1: good weekend with both first and second fifteen's winning their games.
- 17:13Speaker 1: The First traveled away to Vigo near Gravesend and won
- 17:16Speaker 1: twenty four points to seven, and the Seconds beat Gillingermancourian's
- 17:19Speaker 1: at home by thirty two points to ten. So both
- 17:22Speaker 1: teams a having quite a good start of the season.
- 17:24Speaker 1: That's good to know. It Saturday, the First are at
- 17:27Speaker 1: home to sit Cup and the Seconds are away to Whitstaball.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Now the Folks and Ladies team, after being promoted last season,
- 17:33Speaker 1: they start their campaign on Sunday, Sunday, the nineteenth of
- 17:36Speaker 1: October with a home fixture against Beccahamian Ladies. Now are
- 17:41Speaker 1: they going to trump travel down from west Wickham which
- 17:43Speaker 1: is in the very north of Kent. Now, after the
- 17:47Speaker 1: Lioness's success in the World Cup, I expect the Ladies
- 17:50Speaker 1: are dying to get stuck in and play a competitive match.
- 17:53Speaker 1: So I imagine this is going to be a really
- 17:55Speaker 1: close game. Now a day for your diary and it's
- 17:58Speaker 1: not hard to forget this one. It's November the fifth.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Now I will read out what I've got in front
- 18:04Speaker 1: of me. Don't miss the biggest and best fireworks display
- 18:07Speaker 1: this side of Leeds Castle at Folks and Rugby Club
- 18:10Speaker 1: on Wednesday the fifth and November. There's going to be
- 18:14Speaker 1: outdoor food stoes, fully licensed bar, outdoor tea huh and
- 18:17Speaker 1: lots of parking. Now, the one point that they do
- 18:20Speaker 1: want to make is that they have got Wi Fi
- 18:23Speaker 1: inside the ground, right inside the clubhouse. But the entrance
- 18:27Speaker 1: to the club is on the road and they can't
- 18:31Speaker 1: get a signal there, so well they're asking is people
- 18:34Speaker 1: to come along. It's cash on the gates please, so
- 18:37Speaker 1: bear that in mind. I'm sure I'll be telling you
- 18:39Speaker 1: that again before the fifth of November. So I love this.
- 18:43Speaker 1: They've got a few points and it says remember remember
- 18:45Speaker 1: the fifth of November, arrive no earlier than four thirty please,
- 18:49Speaker 1: the fireworks start at seven thirty. Is ten pound per adult,
- 18:53Speaker 1: five pound per child under ten and as we said,
- 18:56Speaker 1: it's payable in cash only at the gate on arrival.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Is up to two years old are free. Now, there's
- 19:02Speaker 1: no advanced ticket, there's no re entry, there's limited numbers,
- 19:06Speaker 1: so you've just got to get down there. They've got
- 19:08Speaker 1: free parking, they've got outdoor music, which is it says
- 19:12Speaker 1: provisional at the moment. They've got licensed bars, food stores
- 19:16Speaker 1: and plant based and gluten free options are available now,
- 19:21Speaker 1: if my memory serves me correctly. Right at the very
- 19:25Speaker 1: last minute, they canceled their fireworks because of the weather,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and that is the biggest risks you've got to take.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I don't know if you can get insured against the weather.
- 19:34Speaker 1: But if you lay out all that money and they
- 19:37Speaker 1: don't use the fireworks, can you give them back? There
- 19:40Speaker 1: is there a date on them. So it's quite a risk,
- 19:43Speaker 1: isn't it running an organized fireworks evening? So let's hope
- 19:48Speaker 1: the weather gods are kind to folks in Rugby Club
- 19:50Speaker 1: this year. Okay, now I've got two songs coming up
- 19:54Speaker 1: there on the playlist, and this is really interesting. Now
- 19:57Speaker 1: you might know that I really love female strong vocalists
- 20:02Speaker 1: and I'm just happened to put these two together. So
- 20:05Speaker 1: coming up first, we've got Tony Braxton and break my Heart,
- 20:10Speaker 1: and then we've got m People and don't look any further.
- 20:15Speaker 1: So I mean, please sit back and enjoy these two
- 20:18Speaker 1: cool chicks, and really I love these two Sit back
- 20:27Speaker 1: and enjoy it great vocal sounds there from m people
- 21:00Speaker 1: have a small I think that they are very similar
- 21:05Speaker 1: in their vocal output, aren't they? Tony Braxton and have
- 21:09Speaker 1: a small You can imagine getting them two on stage
- 21:12Speaker 1: for a duet of some description or other. Oh, how
- 21:15Speaker 1: powerful would that be. I'd love to see that, right, Okay,
- 21:19Speaker 1: So well, it is a sports show, so we better
- 21:21Speaker 1: crack on now. I should be off to Cyprus in
- 21:25Speaker 1: late November. Oh did I tell you that? Probably the
- 21:28Speaker 1: first time I've mentioned it, actually, But I'm going to
- 21:31Speaker 1: be catching up. I mean, it's a bit random. This
- 21:33Speaker 1: is a folksing show, but I do. I do love
- 21:35Speaker 1: supporting these guys because I do love the Pathos Running Club.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I hope to be catching up with some of them.
- 21:41Speaker 1: So I was a little mentioned for an event coming
- 21:43Speaker 1: up which is happening on Saturday now if you happen
- 21:46Speaker 1: to be in Pathos at that time, the club are
- 21:48Speaker 1: organizing a five k fun run and walk at four
- 21:51Speaker 1: pm raising funds for awareness of breast and prostate cancer
- 21:55Speaker 1: and it starts at the Pathos Harbor. Now, this club,
- 21:58Speaker 1: I've got to know him over the years. They do
- 22:00Speaker 1: stacks of work for breast and prostate cancer and they
- 22:04Speaker 1: have a little fun run walk. I think it's about
- 22:09Speaker 1: that November time. It's called the Abreast of Friends. You know,
- 22:14Speaker 1: me and missus Ferrett, we've done it a couple of
- 22:16Speaker 1: times and it's really great fun and it's good that
- 22:18Speaker 1: they're raising people are raising money for the people of
- 22:21Speaker 1: Cyprus six cancers. Just not in the UK. It's all
- 22:24Speaker 1: over the world, isn't it. You've got to remember that.
- 22:26Speaker 1: So it's good that these running clubs all around the
- 22:28Speaker 1: world are doing stuff to make awareness, you know, to
- 22:33Speaker 1: stamp out cancer. Will it happen in our life, I
- 22:36Speaker 1: don't know, but anyway the club themselves are They're really
- 22:40Speaker 1: welcome in and get many tourists running with them whilst
- 22:43Speaker 1: on holiday. So I just want to wish good luck
- 22:45Speaker 1: to all of Patfuls Running club that are taking part
- 22:47Speaker 1: in the fun fun run and walk and we'll see
- 22:51Speaker 1: you all in November. Okay, Now a bit closer to home, Hive,
- 22:56Speaker 1: big well done to former guests of the show, A
- 22:58Speaker 1: tennis coach Chris Hollands and members of the High Long
- 23:01Speaker 1: Tennis Club who got together for an organized charity bike
- 23:04Speaker 1: ride and raised eight hundred pound for High Dementia Awareness Forum,
- 23:09Speaker 1: bringing their total amount raised to nearly fifteen hundred pounds.
- 23:12Speaker 1: So well done you all. That's really good. You know,
- 23:15Speaker 1: it's great once again that we're supporting another charity. The
- 23:18Speaker 1: team down there at High Long Tennis Club got together
- 23:21Speaker 1: and should think about other people. You know, it's not
- 23:24Speaker 1: all about sport. It is about helping other people. It's
- 23:26Speaker 1: so important, it really is. Okay, I think we have
- 23:30Speaker 1: be doing for time. I think I better get some
- 23:32Speaker 1: more sport in case I do run out of time.
- 23:35Speaker 1: So have some running news now. Thirty one runners from
- 23:38Speaker 1: Folks and Running and Athletic Club took part in the
- 23:40Speaker 1: Jivor Dane ten k last Saturday, starting and finishing in
- 23:43Speaker 1: the Julie Rowe Stadium in Ashford. Many of the thirty
- 23:46Speaker 1: one collecting Pebe times. The Ladies won the first Female
- 23:50Speaker 1: Team award thanks to Kirsty Wilson and Nikki Goodwin and
- 23:53Speaker 1: Helen Webb with former guests to the show. How many
- 23:56Speaker 1: former guests of the show, as we mentioned today, they're
- 23:59Speaker 1: still out there doing this sport anyway. Former guests of
- 24:01Speaker 1: the show Louisa Eid she picked up an award for
- 24:05Speaker 1: finishing second in her age category. Weard Don Luisa, now
- 24:10Speaker 1: further Afield in the US of A. Henry and Amy
- 24:13Speaker 1: Axon completed the Chicago Marathon, having run the Cornerstone Lakes
- 24:18Speaker 1: Park Run just west of the city the day before.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Two hundred and forty two runners took part in the
- 24:24Speaker 1: in the Park Run and looking at the names of
- 24:27Speaker 1: the clubs in the results page, it was bolstered by
- 24:29Speaker 1: many Brits who were out there and planning to run
- 24:32Speaker 1: the marathon or the next day. Meanwhile, in I hope
- 24:37Speaker 1: I've got this right, Fugal sang Park Run. In Denmark,
- 24:40Speaker 1: Folks To Running club member Anna Thompson was the first
- 24:43Speaker 1: lady home in the red, white and Blue vest. Other
- 24:46Speaker 1: members found park runs nearby in Orpington, Sittingbourne, Walmer Deal,
- 24:51Speaker 1: Dover and another first lady was a Debbie Jeffrey. She's
- 24:55Speaker 1: a member of the Folkston Club. Whilst further Afield in
- 24:57Speaker 1: the UK, this tu found her part run in Swansea
- 25:01Speaker 1: Bay in South Wales and as far as me, as
- 25:05Speaker 1: far as I was concerned, the nearest I got to
- 25:08Speaker 1: run in on the track was when I compared the
- 25:11Speaker 1: Shepway School's Fun Run, which was around the track at
- 25:15Speaker 1: the three hills where children from years three, four, five
- 25:18Speaker 1: and six all took part. No, it wasn't all at once.
- 25:22Speaker 1: What it was This was organized by Sarah Green from
- 25:24Speaker 1: the Shipwey from the Sports Trust as they call them now,
- 25:28Speaker 1: and she asked me to come along to help out.
- 25:31Speaker 1: So they split it up. The youngsters run one lap
- 25:36Speaker 1: of the track and the elder children run two laps.
- 25:39Speaker 1: The weather was I suppose we were lucky. It was
- 25:42Speaker 1: that spitty rain, you know, that rain that really soaks you,
- 25:46Speaker 1: and then the sun come out and then there was
- 25:48Speaker 1: a beautiful rainbow across the track. But it went down
- 25:51Speaker 1: really well. The kids loved it and it's lovely to
- 25:53Speaker 1: see the children get involved in sport, from the first
- 25:57Speaker 1: to the last ones that came in on the races.
- 26:00Speaker 1: So what don't kids now? I think what I do.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I'll play a best song, another song, and then we
- 26:07Speaker 1: come back. I've just got a few extra footy snippets
- 26:10Speaker 1: and I might have something else. Oh yeah, I've got
- 26:14Speaker 1: something special. A new venture is coming up in Folkston. Okay.
- 26:17Speaker 1: This is the Kings of Leon and you somebody I've
- 26:35Speaker 1: been rolling around. I was looking down at all last
- 26:40Speaker 1: two thousand and eight Kings of Leon. Use somebody right,
- 26:48Speaker 1: This hour has flown by, so I've just got a
- 26:50Speaker 1: bit more to squeeze in, and that is without any guests.
- 26:53Speaker 1: So you could see where I was coming from when
- 26:54Speaker 1: I said I had four guests in last week. How
- 26:57Speaker 1: tough it was. Okay, So cracking on, We've got some
- 26:59Speaker 1: extra foot news now. Well I had one eye on
- 27:02Speaker 1: our Kent teams in the FA Cup draw since in
- 27:04Speaker 1: Victor were knocked out, and here's what I found. Well,
- 27:07Speaker 1: Gillingham are away to Newport County, both in League Division two.
- 27:10Speaker 1: The Jills are third and Newport are twenty third. Ebbsflee
- 27:14Speaker 1: fourteenth in the National League South. That make a four
- 27:17Speaker 1: hundred and fifty mile round trip to play Grimsby in
- 27:20Speaker 1: Lincolnshire who are fifth in League two, and ishmi and
- 27:24Speaker 1: premier are Chatham Town still in there. They've also got
- 27:27Speaker 1: a four hundred and fifty mile round trip, but they
- 27:29Speaker 1: head off to Derbyshire to play Buxton who are tenth
- 27:32Speaker 1: in the National League North. So all three Kent teams
- 27:35Speaker 1: have been drawn away too against higher opposition and the
- 27:39Speaker 1: stakes are getting higher now. The winners are set to
- 27:44Speaker 1: gain forty five thousand pound and the losers are not
- 27:47Speaker 1: too bad of fifteen thousand pound so we'll have more
- 27:51Speaker 1: fa Cup news on Saturday morning on Radio Folkston with
- 27:54Speaker 1: myself and Ady Dowks between ten and eleven. Meanwhile, a
- 27:58Speaker 1: bit closer to home, folks than in VIC. Disability Football
- 28:01Speaker 1: team started the new tournament season at Faversham in the
- 28:04Speaker 1: Kent Disability Football League. Their first team they played in
- 28:08Speaker 1: the Championship Division one and played five games, drawing neil
- 28:12Speaker 1: nil with Faversham, Stripeforce, King's Hill and Charlton, and then
- 28:16Speaker 1: they beat Tyler Hill three nil and Andkorion's one nil,
- 28:20Speaker 1: going to the top of the division. Garanth Wilson, the
- 28:23Speaker 1: manager said it was a good all round team performance
- 28:26Speaker 1: and he presented Man of the Matches to Harry Law.
- 28:30Speaker 1: The second team, in the Championship Division two, Believe it
- 28:33Speaker 1: or Not, played five games, all ending in a neil
- 28:35Speaker 1: nil score line and they played against Kent Lions Blue Team,
- 28:39Speaker 1: the Dover Rangers, Charlton, Swanskambe and Kent Lions Red Team
- 28:44Speaker 1: and Man of the Matches went to A Jake Harrison
- 28:46Speaker 1: World on Jake Now. The Sunday's eleven a side game
- 28:50Speaker 1: is an away fixture against a Greenwich Deaf football club.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And for those of you wonder how deaf footballers cope
- 28:57Speaker 1: on the pitch if the referee makes a decision. Obviously
- 29:00Speaker 1: they can't hear the whistle, but he blows his whistle
- 29:03Speaker 1: and he holds a flag up at the same time,
- 29:05Speaker 1: so you know they've got to have their wits about him.
- 29:08Speaker 1: But I've seen this a deaf team play and it
- 29:11Speaker 1: does work. I tell you, it really does work. Okay,
- 29:14Speaker 1: Now I want to bring your attention to a new
- 29:17Speaker 1: running group that might just suit you. Plot Squad Folkston
- 29:21Speaker 1: is a running group that was created by Sam Hart.
- 29:24Speaker 1: He's a husband and a father of two with the
- 29:26Speaker 1: full time job. As the name implies, things are taken slowly.
- 29:31Speaker 1: The group covers three kilometers up and down the lees
- 29:33Speaker 1: at a gentle pace that's designed to get people of
- 29:36Speaker 1: all ages and all abilities into running.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Now.
- 29:39Speaker 1: The days and times vary from week to week to
- 29:42Speaker 1: accommodate work and family life, but still make sure things
- 29:45Speaker 1: keep moving. Now that just made me chuckle.
- 29:48Speaker 2: This did.
- 29:49Speaker 1: So far the group has had a seven year old,
- 29:51Speaker 1: a seventy two year old and a three legged dog
- 29:54Speaker 1: complete the three kilometers and it's for all ages, all
- 29:58Speaker 1: abilities in between. Any one and everyone is welcome to join.
- 30:02Speaker 1: And the route is buggy and dog friendly and this
- 30:05Speaker 1: is something that you are going to ask me, but
- 30:07Speaker 1: it is completely free. Three of its members recently took
- 30:11Speaker 1: part and completed the Folkston Half Marathon, so if anyone
- 30:14Speaker 1: wants to join in and keep up to date, there's
- 30:16Speaker 1: a Facebook page called Plod Squad Folkston and no it's
- 30:20Speaker 1: not for the policeman. It's called Plod Squad Folkston and
- 30:23Speaker 1: it's on Instagram. It's under Sam aka a Plod Squad. Now,
- 30:27Speaker 1: the next Plod Squad meeting is tomorrow, actually it's five o'clock.
- 30:32Speaker 1: That will be Everything they do is at the Leascliffe
- 30:36Speaker 1: Hall and Sunday the nineteenth of October is the next
- 30:39Speaker 1: one after that, that's eleven o'clock. Now I've got to
- 30:42Speaker 1: know Sam and Lauren Hart and they love their running.
- 30:44Speaker 1: The whole family love running. They're great fun people and
- 30:47Speaker 1: I know they will definitely make you welcome. Okay, Now
- 30:51Speaker 1: time is running out now, so before we go away,
- 30:53Speaker 1: I think I've got through all my sport. I just
- 30:56Speaker 1: want to say that I will be back on saturd
- 31:00Speaker 1: today and it's going to be another big one because
- 31:05Speaker 1: it's like folkused in Victor's homecoming game, and you know
- 31:09Speaker 1: there's just expecting a big crowd for their first home
- 31:12Speaker 1: game at Cheriton Road on a Sunday. I've got another
- 31:16Speaker 1: busy morning. I'll be on the mic at Bedgebury Park
- 31:19Speaker 1: for the Nice Work Half Marathon and ten K Trail Race.
- 31:22Speaker 1: So as I say, it's a busy time. So I'm
- 31:24Speaker 1: going to see you on Saturday. I'm gonna We're gonna
- 31:26Speaker 1: play out just a little minute or so of this one.
- 31:29Speaker 1: It's I can see the Nutbush city limits. And if
- 31:32Speaker 1: I said to you Tapathon, then you'll know what I mean.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Tapathon's coming up. And they what they do. They're trying
- 31:51Speaker 1: to break the Guinness Book of Records. See how many
- 31:54Speaker 1: people then get tap dancing at once? And this is
- 31:58Speaker 1: the song They've got to practice a schoolhouse down house
- 32:04Speaker 1: on Highway down the nineteen.
- 32:07Speaker 2: The people people say it, the person, oh night working.
- 32:18Speaker 1: That's it for me. I'll see you on Saturday.
