  Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and welcome to another episode

  of the United Church of Donga Youth Devotion.

  Our Bible reading for today is taken from John chapter 15, verses 4 and 5.

  It says, Abide in me, and I in you, as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself

  unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in me.

  I am the vine, you are the branches.
• 0:33
  He who abides in me, and I in him, he bears much fruit.

  Apart from me, you can do nothing.

  Our theme for today, the power of abiding in Christ.

  Today Jesus is talking to us through his word.
• 0:51
  He refers to himself as the vine, and we are the branches.
• 0:56
  When we truly believe in Jesus Christ and his sacrifice on the cross,

  we are transferred from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light.

  We no longer belong to Satan and this world of darkness, for we are now adopted into the family of God.

  Satan always plays with our minds, saying that we are his and not of God.

  Don't believe the lies of the devil.
• 1:25
  What we need to do is to remain in the family of God.

  We do that by abiding in Jesus Christ. We dwell on the word of God and feast

  from it to grow and bear fruit.

  Jesus is reminding us today to abide in him, for we cannot bear fruit unless we abide in him.

  When we become sons and daughters of God, we must live as children of God.

  We must obey his commandments and his word.

  For example, he commands us not to worship any other God but himself, to love God with our all,

  to love one another, to love our enemies, to trust in God, to be patient,

  to humble ourselves in so many teachings in the Word of God that we are to follow.

  We cannot fulfill these teachings and commandments if we do not abide in Jesus Christ.

  Abiding in Christ does not mean staying at home and just reading the Bible.

  No, it means living our lives according to the teachings of the Bible.

  It means changing our mindset, our habits, our attitudes and lifestyle and adopting the ways of Christ.

  How can we know the ways of Christ from the Bible?

  That's why we need to dwell on the Word of God, so that the eyes of our hearts

  are opened to the teachings of Christ.

  With the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we can fully align our lives according to the Word of God.

  When we abide in Jesus Christ, we will be amazed at the changes that we can

  experience in our lives.

  Let us pray. Holy Spirit, empower me to abide in Jesus Christ.

  Give me the desire to hunger and thirst for the Word of God,

  and open my eyes to your goodness.
