- 0:00Speaker 1: Let us pray. And when the woman saw that she
- 0:04Speaker 1: was not hid, she came trembling and falling down before him.
- 0:09Speaker 1: She declared unto him before all the people for what
- 0:13Speaker 1: cause she had touched him and how she was healed immediately.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Luke 8 47 Jesus, you are the author of life.
- 0:25Speaker 1: You are the one that can make dead things alive again.
- 0:29Speaker 1: And with this truth, I release faith and anticipation into
- 0:34Speaker 1: my day. I believe that with my whole heart, that
- 0:40Speaker 1: when life deals me blows of disappointment, and I'm bleeding
- 0:44Speaker 1: defeat from within, that just one touch from you can
- 0:50Speaker 1: change everything. When my faith is low and my energy
- 0:56Speaker 1: is drained, position me, Holy Spirit, in the place where
- 1:00Speaker 1: Jesus is, so that I can receive my healing and restoration.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I don't care about what others are saying or about
- 1:10Speaker 1: how many times I might get knocked down. I will
- 1:14Speaker 1: not stop until I am restored and made whole. In
- 1:21Speaker 1: the same way you healed the girl, Jesus, I pronounce
- 1:24Speaker 1: healing and life to flow into every place of my life.
- 1:30Speaker 1: because you are willing, Jesus. I realize that as I
- 1:35Speaker 1: activate my faith like Jarius, dormant dreams and dormant promises
- 1:41Speaker 1: will arise to meet my attention and affection. In Jesus' name, amen.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Thank you for making prayer a priority in your day.

- 2:52Speaker 3: The Little Girl and Bleeding Woman In our last story,
- 2:56Speaker 3: Jesus showed his authority over wind, rain, and sea. With
- 3:01Speaker 3: a word of might, he calmed the raging storm and
- 3:04Speaker 3: saved the apostles from certain death. Once the storm had subsided,
- 3:08Speaker 3: Jesus faced a man who was plagued with a legion
- 3:11Speaker 3: of demons. The man raged and thrashed with the unholy
- 3:15Speaker 3: spirit controlling his body. Jesus calmed the man's soul just
- 3:19Speaker 3: as he did the storm. Now we see the tender
- 3:22Speaker 3: heart of Christ take care of two girls. One had
- 3:25Speaker 3: suffered from a debilitating illness. The other had tasted death itself.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Jesus showed his compassionate power by kneeling down and healing
- 3:34Speaker 3: both of them, as inspired by the Gospels.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Hello and welcome once again to the Bible in a
- 3:44Speaker 4: Year podcast. I'm Jack Graham. In our last episode, we
- 3:48Speaker 4: heard how Jesus calmed the stormy seas and cast out
- 3:51Speaker 4: a legion of demons with nothing more than his words.
- 3:56Speaker 4: He demonstrates His powerful command over the forces of nature
- 3:59Speaker 4: and the forces of evil in this world. As the
- 4:02Speaker 4: disciples witnessed His power, their wonder and amazement grew, even
- 4:07Speaker 4: though their faith remained immature and easily shaken. Today, we'll
- 4:13Speaker 4: see how the Lord cares for a long-suffering woman and
- 4:16Speaker 4: a dying girl. We will once again hear how God's mercy, grace,
- 4:21Speaker 4: and healing truly knows no limits and and is available
- 4:24Speaker 4: to all without respect for age, gender, position, or background.
- 4:29Speaker 4: So let's hear the Word of God today.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Another crowd flurried around Jesus. Their desperate cries for more
- 4:36Speaker 3: words of wisdom and acts of healing were deafening. His
- 4:39Speaker 3: popularity had stretched to the furthest reaches of Judea and Samaria.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Not a traveler passed through the land without hearing his name.
- 4:48Speaker 3: As Jesus often did, he walked beside the sea. He
- 4:51Speaker 3: enjoyed the way the water and wind amplified his voice
- 4:54Speaker 3: for all to hear. And if need be, he could
- 4:57Speaker 3: make a quick escape onto a boat if things got
- 5:00Speaker 3: out of hand. Jesus was tending to the crowd, teaching
- 5:04Speaker 3: them the ways of the kingdom. A faint yell could
- 5:06Speaker 3: be heard from the sea of faces. Jesus!
- 5:09Speaker 4: He yelled.
- 5:10Speaker 3: His head was barely poking out of the vast crowd. However,
- 5:14Speaker 3: Jesus knew his voice. It was the voice of Jairus,
- 5:18Speaker 3: one of the synagogue rulers. Jesus gestured for him to
- 5:21Speaker 3: be let through. Jairus fell at his feet, sobbing. It
- 5:24Speaker 3: was odd for the people to see a man of
- 5:26Speaker 3: such power groveling before anybody. This showed Jesus' true influence.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Jairus looked up at Jesus and said, Please, Lord, my daughter,
- 5:35Speaker 3: my little girl, is sick to the point of death.
- 5:38Speaker 3: There is no pain like a parent in fear of
- 5:40Speaker 3: losing a child. Jesus could feel its palpable presence in Jairus.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Say no more, Jesus said. Lead on, and I will
- 5:49Speaker 3: go to your daughter. So Jesus got down from the
- 5:52Speaker 3: boat where he was sitting and stepped into the crowd.
- 5:54Speaker 3: They were violently seeking his attention. His fame had caused
- 5:58Speaker 3: a great deal of chaos wherever he went. The crowd
- 6:01Speaker 3: grabbed at him and shoved him in every direction. His
- 6:04Speaker 3: disciples took it upon themselves to make a way for
- 6:07Speaker 3: Jesus and Jairus to get through, but it was an
- 6:09Speaker 3: exhausting task. As Jesus made his way through the forceful crowd,
- 6:14Speaker 3: a small and quiet presence followed him. Her hand was
- 6:17Speaker 3: small and shaking. Her once beautifully lush face was gray
- 6:21Speaker 3: and fading. A woman followed closely behind Jesus, reaching out
- 6:25Speaker 3: to touch him. Her entire body trembled as blood slowly
- 6:29Speaker 3: dripped down her inner thighs. She had had a discharge
- 6:32Speaker 3: of blood for over twelve years. The seeping blood from
- 6:35Speaker 3: her lower half caused a great deal of pain and
- 6:38Speaker 3: sapped much energy from her. Yet worst of all, it
- 6:41Speaker 3: made her unclean in Jewish tradition. She was unable to
- 6:44Speaker 3: enter the synagogues or temples. She was unable to go
- 6:47Speaker 3: to feasts and celebrations. She was unable to marry. Her
- 6:51Speaker 3: last penny was spent on physicians. They could not help her.
- 6:55Speaker 3: She was hopeless and alone, until she heard about the
- 6:59Speaker 3: man named Jesus. She could see Jesus, so close yet
- 7:04Speaker 3: so far. He was only a few feet away, but
- 7:06Speaker 3: the violent crowd was continually tugging or tossing her to
- 7:09Speaker 3: the ground. She reached for him and missed. She tried
- 7:13Speaker 3: to call out his name, but the people were too loud.
- 7:16Speaker 3: She got up to her feet and tried to run
- 7:17Speaker 3: towards him, but someone pulled her back and her face
- 7:20Speaker 3: fell into the stony ground. She thought of giving up
- 7:23Speaker 3: and just remaining on the ground. She would be trampled
- 7:27Speaker 3: and her miserable life would be ended. No, she thought
- 7:30Speaker 3: to herself. If I could just touch his garments, I
- 7:33Speaker 3: know I will be healed. She lifted herself up and
- 7:37Speaker 3: crawled towards Jesus. In one last effort, she threw herself
- 7:40Speaker 3: towards him and barely touched the hem of his garment.
- 7:43Speaker 3: She fell to her knees. Jesus stopped and turned around.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Who touched me? he asked his disciples. They laughed. At
- 7:52Speaker 3: first they thought he was joking. Are you serious? they
- 7:55Speaker 3: asked him. Thousands of people are grabbing at you, and
- 7:58Speaker 3: you ask, who touched me? Jesus shook his head. No,
- 8:02Speaker 3: he clarified, this was different. Jesus looked around and saw
- 8:06Speaker 3: the woman kneeling on the floor, being rammed in the
- 8:09Speaker 3: head by random people in the crowd. Jesus knelt down
- 8:12Speaker 3: and touched her shoulders. My daughter, your faith has made
- 8:17Speaker 3: you well. Go and be free, Jesus said with a
- 8:21Speaker 3: warm smile. Tears streamed down the woman's face. She was speechless.
- 8:26Speaker 3: No words could quite thank Jesus properly. So she bowed
- 8:30Speaker 3: to him and left. Please, Lord, we will be too late,
- 8:34Speaker 3: Jairus begged. Jesus stood to his feet and continued to
- 8:38Speaker 3: walk forward. As they made their way out of the
- 8:41Speaker 3: main streets, the crowd began to settle. Only a few
- 8:44Speaker 3: people remained, Jesus, Jairus, and the twelve disciples. They approached
- 8:49Speaker 3: the home and a member of Jairus' family ran to them,
- 8:52Speaker 3: His face was grim. Dried tears and dirt caked his face.
- 8:57Speaker 3: She's gone, he whispered to Jairus. Do not trouble the
- 9:01Speaker 3: teacher any further. Jesus overheard the two men whispering. He
- 9:05Speaker 3: interrupted them and said, It is not so, he said.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Do not be afraid. Believe in me and watch. Jesus
- 9:13Speaker 3: gestured for Peter, James, and John to come with him
- 9:16Speaker 3: into the house. In a small courtyard, many people were
- 9:19Speaker 3: wailing and weeping on the floor. The halls echoed with
- 9:23Speaker 3: tears and mourning. It was the saddest thing Peter, James,
- 9:27Speaker 3: or John had ever witnessed. It was clear that the
- 9:30Speaker 3: little girl meant a great deal to them. Jesus walked
- 9:34Speaker 3: up to the women weeping and asked, Why is everyone
- 9:37Speaker 3: making such a commotion? The child is only sleeping. The
- 9:40Speaker 3: woman scoffed at him. His words seemed insensitive and almost evil. However,
- 9:45Speaker 3: behind Jesus' questions were a promise. He took Jiras, his wife,
- 9:50Speaker 3: and the three men with him upstairs. They entered the door,
- 9:54Speaker 3: and there, lying on the bed, was the girl's lifeless body.
- 9:57Speaker 3: She could not have been more than twelve. Her once
- 10:00Speaker 3: rosy cheeks were white. Jesus walked over to her body
- 10:03Speaker 3: slowly and knelt by the side of her bed. He
- 10:06Speaker 3: held her little hand in his. Jesus' eyes watered as
- 10:10Speaker 3: he held the little girl. Death was never God's intention.
- 10:15Speaker 3: He is the author of life. Jesus kissed the little
- 10:18Speaker 3: girl's hand and said, Talitha Kumi, which means, little girl, arise.
- 10:27Speaker 3: The girl's chest began to rise steadily up and down.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Color was slowly returning to her face. Jesus smiled as
- 10:34Speaker 3: her beautiful brown eyes opened. She sat up, stretched, and
- 10:38Speaker 3: yawned as if she had awoken from a long nap.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Jesus laughed with joy as the others in the room
- 10:44Speaker 3: awed in amazement. The two parents rushed to their daughter's side,
- 10:48Speaker 3: kissing her and hugging her, Jairus wiped tears from his
- 10:52Speaker 3: eyes and looked up at Jesus with a face of gratitude. Jesus, Peter, James,
- 10:57Speaker 3: and John left the room so the family could be together.
- 11:00Speaker 3: As he left, he turned to one of the servants
- 11:02Speaker 3: and asked for her to bring the little girl some food.
- 11:09Speaker 4: As we begin today's reading, we find Jesus once again
- 11:12Speaker 4: surrounded by great crowds of people. each one eager to
- 11:16Speaker 4: hear his words and perhaps even witness a miraculous sign
- 11:19Speaker 4: as he healed someone from the crowd. Jesus' renown was
- 11:23Speaker 4: growing by leaps and bounds as more and more people
- 11:26Speaker 4: in the region heard what he could do. This was
- 11:29Speaker 4: certainly an annoyance, even a threat to the religious leaders.
- 11:33Speaker 4: They wanted Jesus just to go away so they could
- 11:36Speaker 4: have control and power over the people. Of course, not
- 11:39Speaker 4: all of the religious elite despised Jesus, and today, we
- 11:43Speaker 4: meet one such person, a synagogue ruler by the name
- 11:46Speaker 4: of Jairus. He had gone out that day to find Jesus.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Whether out of true respect and belief or just out
- 11:52Speaker 4: of sheer desperation, we do not know, but the fact
- 11:55Speaker 4: was that his precious young daughter was in bed at home,
- 11:59Speaker 4: sick and dying. Sickness and death are really the great equalizers.
- 12:05Speaker 4: No matter what one's wealth or power or position may
- 12:08Speaker 4: be in society, when illness or the threat of death comes—
- 12:12Speaker 4: We are all the same. We are all in a
- 12:15Speaker 4: helpless state. And so Jairus did what any loving parent
- 12:20Speaker 4: would do. He sought out every last answer in order
- 12:23Speaker 4: to try to save his child. Jesus was seemingly his
- 12:28Speaker 4: last hope. So when he found him that day, he
- 12:31Speaker 4: pleaded with Jesus, not from a position of authority, but
- 12:35Speaker 4: one of deep and desperate need of help. Jesus immediately
- 12:39Speaker 4: stopped what he was doing and went with Jairus. It
- 12:42Speaker 4: is a reminder that so often in life, the interruptions
- 12:45Speaker 4: are in fact an opportunity for ministry. As Jairus led
- 12:49Speaker 4: him and they pushed through the crowd, suddenly Jesus stopped
- 12:52Speaker 4: and asked an unusual question. Who touched me? To all around,
- 12:57Speaker 4: it seemed to be a ridiculous question. There were people everywhere.
- 13:01Speaker 4: He was being touched all the time. But Jesus had
- 13:05Speaker 4: felt something different. Power had gone out from him in
- 13:08Speaker 4: that moment. And so a woman confessed to touching him,
- 13:12Speaker 4: hoping that even just a brush against the hem of
- 13:15Speaker 4: his garment would heal her disease, a lifelong problem with
- 13:19Speaker 4: bleeding which made her unclean and unhealthy. This tragic condition
- 13:23Speaker 4: had left her destitute and alone, unable to even enter
- 13:27Speaker 4: the temple of worship to worship God or to celebrate
- 13:30Speaker 4: with her people. Jesus looked at her with kindness and
- 13:34Speaker 4: grace and told her to go home in peace and
- 13:36Speaker 4: fully healed her because of her faith. This is a
- 13:40Speaker 4: great moment in Scripture which shows us not only our
- 13:43Speaker 4: Lord's caring heart and immense power, but His ability to
- 13:47Speaker 4: know when we cry out to Him. It also shows
- 13:50Speaker 4: us that Jesus had both full control and full awareness
- 13:53Speaker 4: of His power. Not everyone who touched Him was healed,
- 13:57Speaker 4: though certainly some in the crowd had ailments that Jesus
- 14:00Speaker 4: could have healed. But when this woman approached Him with
- 14:03Speaker 4: such faith and touched Him, Jesus allowed healing power to
- 14:07Speaker 4: depart from His body to meet her deep need of
- 14:09Speaker 4: healing and restoration. It wasn't by her might or her
- 14:13Speaker 4: actions or even her touch that she was healed, but
- 14:17Speaker 4: by faith and power in Christ. While he was still
- 14:20Speaker 4: with the crowd, someone came to inform Jairus that his
- 14:23Speaker 4: daughter had passed away. There was no need, it seemed,
- 14:27Speaker 4: for Jesus to proceed to his home because nothing could
- 14:30Speaker 4: be done. But as we know, what is impossible for
- 14:33Speaker 4: man is possible with God. I love how Jesus responds
- 14:38Speaker 4: in Mark 5, 36. But overhearing what they said, Jesus
- 14:43Speaker 4: said to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not fear,
- 14:46Speaker 4: only believe. Oh, that we could live by those words.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Do not fear, only believe. Jesus continued on to the
- 14:55Speaker 4: home of Jairus, taking only his three closest disciples, Peter, James,
- 15:00Speaker 4: and John. They arrived to quite a scene. mourners already
- 15:04Speaker 4: wailing and making a commotion outside the home. He spoke
- 15:08Speaker 4: calmly to them, assuring them that the girl was not dead,
- 15:12Speaker 4: only sleeping. But nobody believed, and they laughed at his words.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Jesus then entered the home with his three disciples and
- 15:20Speaker 4: the girl's parents. And going to her bedside, he took
- 15:23Speaker 4: her hand and spoke tenderly over her. Arise, little girl.
- 15:29Speaker 4: And at his command, she shook off the chains of
- 15:32Speaker 4: death and rose, fully recovered and restored into the arms
- 15:36Speaker 4: of her joyous parents. Jesus is still speaking words to
- 15:42Speaker 4: God's children today, through the Bible, by his Spirit, calling
- 15:46Speaker 4: us who are spiritually dead to rise to a new
- 15:49Speaker 4: life that only he offers, the one who is the
- 15:52Speaker 4: resurrection and the life. This is the message, the glorious,
- 15:57Speaker 4: gracious message of the good news, the gospel. The God
- 16:01Speaker 4: who healed the sick and raised the dead, is able
- 16:03Speaker 4: to heal and give life to all who will call
- 16:06Speaker 4: upon his name. The Bible says, whoever calls upon the
- 16:10Speaker 4: name of the Lord will be saved. Lord, we call
- 16:14Speaker 4: upon your name, and we trust you as our Lord
- 16:17Speaker 4: and Savior. May we follow you all the days of
- 16:20Speaker 4: our lives, and may our hearts always be devoted to you.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Thank you for your restoration and healing in our lives
- 16:27Speaker 4: and the forgiveness of our sins. In Jesus' name, amen.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Thank you for listening to today's Bible in a Year.
