- 1:07SPEAKER_08: Are you picking up junk from my rug?
- 1:10SPEAKER_08: Boys, I guess I need to vacuum.

- 1:19SPEAKER_08: So, yes, of a big uh event in my daughter's life today.
- 1:23SPEAKER_08: She got her her birth one of her birthday presents uh late, obviously, because we had to make an appointment.
- 1:28SPEAKER_08: She got studs in her ears.
- 1:30SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:31SPEAKER_08: Very nice.
- 1:32SPEAKER_08: Got those ears pierced.
- 1:33SPEAKER_08: Nice green uh earrings and burstone.
- 1:36SPEAKER_09: Yep, burstone.
- 1:38SPEAKER_08: So.

- 1:39SPEAKER_08: Now she's gotta take good care of them.
- 1:41SPEAKER_08: She's gotta clean them and and turn them and all kinds of cool stuff.
- 1:46SPEAKER_08: Don't talk about you.
- 1:48SPEAKER_08: Okay, well it's hard not to talk about you because you're standing or sitting right here tickling my feet.
- 1:55SPEAKER_09: Not touching you.
- 1:56SPEAKER_09: I'm not touching you.
- 1:56SPEAKER_09: I'm not touching you.
- 1:57SPEAKER_09: I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you.
- 1:59SPEAKER_09: Not touching kicking mad, not touching keggy mad.
- 2:01SPEAKER_08: Close your door.
- 2:02SPEAKER_08: Close your door.
- 2:04SPEAKER_08: Anyway, it is episode 194 uh of the podcast.
- 2:09SPEAKER_08: And we are gonna kinda pick up where we left off last week, because last week was weird.
- 2:16SPEAKER_08: Last week we had our buddy Wildman on uh to talk about our friend Phil.
- 2:21SPEAKER_08: And just to actually just catch up with Jared.
- 2:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:24SPEAKER_08: And um it kind of ended up talking about Phil.
- 2:26SPEAKER_08: But we actually had the technical difficulties last week where um Jared wouldn't have been able to hear any of the music or anything like that that we were gonna play.
- 2:36SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 2:36SPEAKER_08: So we skipped that and we just went to him.
- 2:39SPEAKER_08: But then like half of his interview was gone.
- 2:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_08: Because I don't know, I don't know what happened.
- 2:47SPEAKER_08: But we we lost it, so we had to effectively start over.
- 2:50SPEAKER_08: We didn't really start over, I guess, but we we went to the did a part two and we called it good.
- 2:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so I had some stuff lined up for last week um that I want to get to this week because um we had uh a bunch of new music that I wanted to to um to to talk about and play, uh samples of.
- 3:11SPEAKER_08: Um from some artists that well, at least one of the artists, which is one of my favorites.
- 3:16SPEAKER_08: So I'm excited about that.
- 3:18SPEAKER_08: Um and then a swifty.
- 3:21SPEAKER_08: Um and then maybe Myra Z a secret Swifty.
- 3:26SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 3:27SPEAKER_08: Are you a Swifty?
- 3:28SPEAKER_08: No, she's not a Swifty.
- 3:30SPEAKER_08: That's because she's smart.
- 3:31SPEAKER_08: Yes, she is.
- 3:34SPEAKER_08: Well, see.
- 3:36SPEAKER_08: Which is Love Story.
- 3:39SPEAKER_08: Oh, see, Doug only likes one song, too.
- 3:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I only liked one song.
- 3:42SPEAKER_08: He likes You Belong With Me.
- 3:43SPEAKER_08: Is that right?
- 3:43SPEAKER_08: Is that the name of it?
- 3:44SPEAKER_09: You belong with me.
- 3:45SPEAKER_09: Sound about I'm a cheerleader.
- 3:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 3:49SPEAKER_08: No, it's called You Belong With Me.
- 3:53SPEAKER_08: Is it right?
- 3:54SPEAKER_08: She wears short skirts, I wear sneakers, yeah.
- 3:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's the one.
- 3:58SPEAKER_08: Whatever.
- 3:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's the one that uh yeah.
- 4:01SPEAKER_08: That's the one he likes too.
- 4:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 4:02SPEAKER_08: So that's the one my co my middle school chorus is doing for our concert.
- 4:05SPEAKER_08: Oh, is it?
- 4:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 4:06SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 4:06SPEAKER_08: Well, yeah.
- 4:07SPEAKER_08: So apparently it is a popular song.
- 4:10SPEAKER_09: It's a popular song.
- 4:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:11SPEAKER_08: Anyway, um, so I don't know if you've heard about any of these songs that have been released.
- 4:16SPEAKER_08: I also have a list for you for multiple classic rock talking.
- 4:19SPEAKER_08: Awesome! Um that I think we could probably uh I'll tell you what it is here in a second, but I I think it would be fun.
- 4:26SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 4:27SPEAKER_08: Um But Dave Gilmore has released uh The Piper's Call.
- 4:32SPEAKER_09: You know what?
- 4:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 4:33SPEAKER_08: Well, I love Dave Gilmore's playing.
- 4:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, oh yeah, he's good.
- 4:36SPEAKER_08: He's a great guitar player.
- 4:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yes.
- 4:38SPEAKER_09: But yeah, it's probably Usually his songs are very Pink Floyd-ish.
- 4:42SPEAKER_09: Well, they are, but it's Pink Floyd without the coolness.
- 4:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's yeah.
- 4:46SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 4:47SPEAKER_08: Um, so I haven't heard this.
- 4:49SPEAKER_08: And I I think if I click this button right here, it'll play.
- 4:52SPEAKER_08: Well, okay.
- 4:53SPEAKER_08: I hope.
- 4:54SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah, see.
- 5:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 5:01SPEAKER_08: It's very Pink Floyd.
- 5:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 5:08SPEAKER_08: It's called The Piper's Call.
- 5:15SPEAKER_08: The album is called Luck and Strange.
- 5:18SPEAKER_08: Luck and Strange?
- 5:19SPEAKER_08: I believe so.
- 5:20SPEAKER_08: Um.
- 5:24SPEAKER_08: Luck and Strange.
- 5:26SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 5:26SPEAKER_08: Interesting title.
- 5:27SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 5:27SPEAKER_08: Um, trying to find out when it is.
- 5:29SPEAKER_08: Okay, the LP uh will be released on September 6th.
- 5:33SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 5:34SPEAKER_09: So we got a long time.
- 5:36SPEAKER_09: We got a long ways, yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_08: And you know, to be honest with you, I think I I only own like Pink Floyd's Greatest Hits.
- 5:44SPEAKER_09: I have uh Dark Side of the Moon and um I do have Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl.
- 5:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 5:49SPEAKER_08: I have that on vinyl.
- 5:50SPEAKER_09: What else do I have?
- 5:51SPEAKER_09: Something else.
- 5:52SPEAKER_08: But remember, I used to have um Division Bell.
- 5:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 5:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, which is swiped out of my apartment.
- 5:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it got stolen out of your car.
- 5:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 6:00SPEAKER_09: Or got stolen with your car, I should say.
- 6:01SPEAKER_08: No, no, it was my C D player.
- 6:03SPEAKER_08: They took it out of my apartment.
- 6:05SPEAKER_08: Remember that?
- 6:06SPEAKER_10: Oh yes, I think it was yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_08: Same same era, same time.
- 6:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you know.
- 6:10SPEAKER_08: But yeah, I got my car stolen out of my driveway on a different night.
- 6:14SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 6:14SPEAKER_08: And then uh somebody broke into my apartment and took my CD player.
- 6:18SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 6:19SPEAKER_08: Which had the division bell in it.
- 6:20SPEAKER_09: That's right, that's right.
- 6:21SPEAKER_09: I thought it was in your CD player.
- 6:22SPEAKER_09: This was a long time ago.
- 6:23SPEAKER_08: This is before you were even born.
- 6:26SPEAKER_08: Well, I didn't need to.
- 6:28SPEAKER_09: I don't even think you were dating your mom or not.
- 6:30SPEAKER_09: No, I I wasn't.
- 6:31SPEAKER_08: I wasn't with your mom.
- 6:32SPEAKER_08: Nope, that's for sure.
- 6:34SPEAKER_08: Crazy, that's it.
- 6:34SPEAKER_08: That was a long time ago.
- 6:35SPEAKER_08: That was a long time ago.
- 6:36SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 6:37SPEAKER_08: First uh new music.
- 6:43SPEAKER_08: With uh new guitar player Simon McBride.
- 6:45SPEAKER_08: This is Deep Purple.
- 6:47SPEAKER_08: Ah.
- 6:48SPEAKER_08: They have a new album coming.
- 7:08SPEAKER_08: Cool.
- 7:09SPEAKER_08: I like it.
- 7:10SPEAKER_08: This song is called Portable Door.
- 7:13SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 7:14SPEAKER_09: What are they coming up with these titles?
- 7:17SPEAKER_08: I don't know, but strange portable door.
- 7:20SPEAKER_08: The name of the album is equals one.
- 7:24SPEAKER_08: It's weird, but not super weird.
- 7:26SPEAKER_08: It comes out July 19th.
- 7:27SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 7:29SPEAKER_09: Now, even even with the new guy, it sounds it sounds deep purpley.
- 7:34SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 7:39SPEAKER_08: Wow, right?
- 7:40SPEAKER_09: It's like a band of grandpa.
- 7:45SPEAKER_09: It really is.
- 7:46SPEAKER_09: It really it really looks like it's like some guys that are living in a nursing home like, hey, you want to start a band?
- 7:57SPEAKER_15: I wasn't prepared for the shock.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: Once round my neck, once round the neck, and the rest disappeared as a fuck.
- 8:08SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's deep purple.
- 8:09SPEAKER_08: I mean it's Yeah, yeah, I guess, yeah.
- 8:12SPEAKER_08: That sounds pretty good.
- 8:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean it's if you like if you like deep purple.
- 8:17SPEAKER_08: Uh let's see.
- 8:18SPEAKER_08: Deep purple.
- 8:20SPEAKER_08: Alright, let me do okay, so we also previewed uh Dogs of War from Motley Crue.
- 8:25SPEAKER_08: We only heard the beginning.
- 8:27SPEAKER_09: I I saw a clip.
- 8:29SPEAKER_09: Somebody said something about Vince Neal falling at a concert recently.
- 8:33SPEAKER_08: I saw the headline, but I didn't look at it.
- 8:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I didn't look at it either.
- 8:36SPEAKER_09: I was just like, well, I'm not surprised.
- 8:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 8:38SPEAKER_08: Um, but we like the beginning of this.
- 8:41SPEAKER_09: Is this the one we heard the other?
- 8:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_08: So this is the best part of the song.
- 8:50SPEAKER_09: Is it really?
- 8:51SPEAKER_08: The the riff.
- 8:52SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's too bad.
- 9:05SPEAKER_08: In my opinion, it's the best part of the song.
- 9:19SPEAKER_08: David Heroes, what are you doing?
- 10:14SPEAKER_08: See, I I still think the rip is the best part of the song.
- 10:18SPEAKER_09: But it's not it's not bad.
- 10:20SPEAKER_08: It's not.
- 10:20SPEAKER_08: It's uh it's and it's better than um anything after Dr.
- 10:26SPEAKER_08: Field.
- 10:27SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_08: But you're right, the video is messed up.
- 10:33SPEAKER_09: Well, it's it's kind of typical for Molly Crew.
- 10:42SPEAKER_08: Uh John Five's influence is on there because John Five is a horror fan.
- 10:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so I was about to say because this is like this is like the Walking Dead meets Mad Max meets uh, you know.
- 10:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 10:59SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 10:59SPEAKER_09: So That's why Vince Neal looks so good, because he's CG.
- 11:03SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 11:04SPEAKER_09: Oh makes much more sense now.
- 11:07SPEAKER_09: Right, exactly.
- 11:08SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 11:08SPEAKER_08: Alright, so uh this one uh I want I was excited about.
- 11:16SPEAKER_09: This is the Richie Sambora.
- 11:17SPEAKER_09: Richie Sambora.
- 11:18SPEAKER_08: Now he's actually he's released um two already.
- 11:23SPEAKER_08: Two singles.
- 11:24SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 11:24SPEAKER_08: Uh I don't know if it's part of an album.
- 11:26SPEAKER_08: Actually, I should probably read the article.
- 11:29SPEAKER_09: Um why would you do that?
- 11:31SPEAKER_08: He's releasing uh plans to release a new track every week through May 17th.
- 11:36SPEAKER_08: He's got another one obviously coming out uh this Friday.
- 11:39SPEAKER_08: So he's released two so far.
- 11:41SPEAKER_09: The first of four- So like every Friday he's releasing.
- 11:44SPEAKER_08: No, through well, through May 17th.
- 11:45SPEAKER_08: It's the first of four new songs.
- 11:47SPEAKER_08: Now, interestingly enough, um, do you remember when um I think we did this on the podcast?
- 11:56SPEAKER_08: Norm's Rare Guitars.
- 11:59SPEAKER_08: Uh which is a guitar store out in California.
- 12:02SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 12:03SPEAKER_08: Good friends of Richie Samboro.
- 12:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:05SPEAKER_08: And Norm got a bunch of songs that Richie had been working on.
- 12:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_08: And shared a bunch of clips.
- 12:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:13SPEAKER_08: Do you remember that?
- 12:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:15SPEAKER_08: None of those songs are these.
- 12:17SPEAKER_08: So I don't know where those songs are going to end up.
- 12:20SPEAKER_08: I hope it's an album.
- 12:21SPEAKER_08: The ones normally?
- 12:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:22SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 12:23SPEAKER_08: And I liked them.
- 12:24SPEAKER_08: I liked almost every one of them.
- 12:25SPEAKER_08: Hard to say then.
- 12:26SPEAKER_08: Uh so I don't know where those whether he's gonna put an album out.
- 12:28SPEAKER_08: I don't know what's going on, but these are four new songs.
- 12:31SPEAKER_08: Um now I have heard this one, and I like it.
- 12:38SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's it's kind of well, I'll just play it, and then you can tell me what you think.
- 12:44SPEAKER_08: Um because I'm not crazy about it.
- 12:47SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 12:49SPEAKER_08: So this is called I Pray.
- 12:51SPEAKER_08: Hate it.
- 12:52SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 14:08SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 14:09SPEAKER_09: Um I mean it's okay.
- 14:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but it's nothing.
- 14:14SPEAKER_08: Myra's giving you the thumbs down.
- 14:15SPEAKER_08: I know she can't even hear it.
- 14:17SPEAKER_08: All she can hear it is you can hear it through my headphones, right?
- 14:20SPEAKER_08: That doesn't give you a thumbs down.
- 14:25SPEAKER_08: Um, I I think it's fine.
- 14:29SPEAKER_08: You know, it's a good song, I guess.
- 14:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's not bad, but it's just this I just doesn't feel like there's any to it.
- 14:37SPEAKER_08: Well, see, so Richie went through this this thing where his first album, uh, Stranger in This Town, was very bluesy.
- 14:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 14:47SPEAKER_08: Um and soulful.
- 14:50SPEAKER_08: Second album was the same.
- 14:52SPEAKER_08: I love his second album.
- 14:54SPEAKER_08: Also Soulful.
- 14:56SPEAKER_08: Undiscovered Soul is the name of it.
- 14:57SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 14:59SPEAKER_08: His next album, he went very um I don't know.
- 15:06SPEAKER_08: I didn't like the mix of it.
- 15:08SPEAKER_08: And it was very pop and very it was good, but it was it didn't have it's like he was going for it's like he wasn't Richie.
- 15:18SPEAKER_08: He was going for something else.
- 15:20SPEAKER_10: Bye Myra!
- 15:22SPEAKER_08: Um and this is a continuation of that.
- 15:25SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 15:25SPEAKER_08: I mean, this is not bad.
- 15:27SPEAKER_08: That's what I'm saying.
- 15:28SPEAKER_08: This I mean it's I like it.
- 15:29SPEAKER_08: Uh, and this is this the one he this one he released last Friday.
- 15:32SPEAKER_08: This is called Living Alone.
- 15:33SPEAKER_08: I like I like this one better than I pray.
- 15:38SPEAKER_08: Um but it's still a good one.
- 16:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:06SPEAKER_09: Kinda reminds me of some of your solo stuff.
- 16:08SPEAKER_09: Think so?
- 16:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah, which which makes sense because you're yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:48SPEAKER_08: Not where I thought that chord was gonna go.
- 16:51SPEAKER_08: I know, it is unexpected.
- 16:53SPEAKER_08: It's almost like it was in a minor key at the way.
- 16:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but we're happy.
- 16:59SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 17:05SPEAKER_09: Well, I definitely like it better than the the last one.
- 17:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah, same.
- 17:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:08SPEAKER_08: I do think it's a little busy.
- 17:10SPEAKER_08: There's a lot of stuff going on right there.
- 17:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but it it seems to work.
- 17:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you know?
- 17:16SPEAKER_08: Maybe it's just because it's drowned in in reverb.
- 17:19SPEAKER_15: Yeah, there's- Nobody answers!
- 17:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah, there's a lot going on the top end.
- 17:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:25SPEAKER_08: But uh, and he's got another one coming out tomorrow, uh, Songs That Wrote My Life.
- 17:30SPEAKER_08: And I'm kind of a cool title.
- 17:32SPEAKER_08: I heard I heard but I heard a clip of it.
- 17:34SPEAKER_08: Uh and you know, I mean, maybe we'll maybe we'll um investigate next next week.
- 17:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:42SPEAKER_08: Uh or maybe I can um pull up the clip.
- 17:44SPEAKER_08: I wasn't really impressed with the clip, to be honest with you.
- 17:46SPEAKER_08: And I love Richie Sambora, you know.
- 17:49SPEAKER_08: Um it was it was just okay.
- 17:51SPEAKER_08: But all of the songs that Norm from Norm's guitars, and you can look this up too.
- 17:57SPEAKER_08: You can look go to YouTube and type in Norm's Guitars Richie Sambora music or songs or something.
- 18:03SPEAKER_08: And you can f he's posted it on there.
- 18:06SPEAKER_08: And he plays clips, like 30 seconds, maybe a minute clip of the songs that Richie was working on.
- 18:12SPEAKER_08: Every one of those ones that he he showed were better than me.
- 18:16SPEAKER_08: So I don't know what's gonna happen to those songs.
- 18:49SPEAKER_08: And he's been he's been making around, man.
- 18:52SPEAKER_08: I mean he's been doing uh all kinds of rest.
- 18:56SPEAKER_08: Um was it the Kentucky Derby?
- 19:01SPEAKER_08: I think it was a k that was a the Kentucky Derby.
- 19:05SPEAKER_09: I have no idea, man.
- 19:05SPEAKER_09: I never remembered uh Reggie White does not work for you.
- 19:32SPEAKER_08: Um yeah, the song is that rolling my life, I think it's the name of the one that comes out of this right now.
- 20:12SPEAKER_15: You remember dealing the most men bullied, make the boost bowls my first reaction is Billy Joel.
- 20:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 20:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 20:51SPEAKER_09: I don't know, it just seems kinda I mean it's not bad.
- 20:57SPEAKER_09: No.
- 20:57SPEAKER_09: I mean, I like uh you first made love.
- 21:00SPEAKER_09: But it just seems so What's the word?
- 21:03SPEAKER_09: I know what you mean.
- 21:04SPEAKER_08: There's a word.
- 21:05SPEAKER_08: Is it it's not contrived?
- 21:06SPEAKER_08: Is it contrived?
- 21:07SPEAKER_09: No, it's not contrived.
- 21:08SPEAKER_09: It's just it's just like I don't think it's his best work.
- 21:13SPEAKER_09: I don't either.
- 21:14SPEAKER_08: You know, it's like it's like it's like uh I don't I don't want to say he's forcing it, but that well that's why I said contrived.
- 21:25SPEAKER_08: But yeah, maybe that's better.
- 21:28SPEAKER_09: It does sound like it's it's like he's trying to put it out and like I got this idea, I gotta get it out.
- 21:34SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 21:34SPEAKER_09: You know, it's like he's on a time frame.
- 21:36SPEAKER_08: And then you can't time frame or something.
- 21:37SPEAKER_08: At least he's been writing.
- 21:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean.
- 21:39SPEAKER_08: At least he's putting new stuff out, you know.
- 21:41SPEAKER_09: But I'm not crazy about I mean maybe maybe it's one of those things where you gotta listen to it like half a dozen times before you're like also what you just heard was like a like a demo.
- 21:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, just a little snippet, yeah.
- 21:55SPEAKER_08: So yeah.
- 21:55SPEAKER_08: Um but yeah, I don't know.
- 21:57SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 21:57SPEAKER_08: I'm I'm I'm interested to see Whether he comes up with something uh in the in the n near future.
- 22:04SPEAKER_09: It's Richie Zamboria, you never know.
- 22:05SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 22:06SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 22:07SPEAKER_08: Um Alright.
- 22:09SPEAKER_08: So let's move on to this one.
- 22:10SPEAKER_08: Because Ultimate Classic Rock has put together another list.
- 22:14SPEAKER_08: Alright.
- 22:14SPEAKER_08: And I think you can read the title, and I d I'm excited about it.
- 22:17SPEAKER_09: Uh the fifty greatest power ballads in rock history ranked.
- 22:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 22:23SPEAKER_09: Alright, now we're talking.
- 22:25SPEAKER_08: So Power Ballad.
- 22:27SPEAKER_08: Who invented the power ballad?
- 22:28SPEAKER_08: Was it really Ario Speedwagon?
- 22:31SPEAKER_09: I don't think so.
- 22:32SPEAKER_09: No.
- 22:32SPEAKER_09: I think the power ballad was around before that.
- 22:35SPEAKER_09: I'd like to think so.
- 22:37SPEAKER_09: I think Led Zeppelin did it.
- 22:39SPEAKER_09: Really?
- 22:41SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 22:43SPEAKER_08: Journey?
- 22:44SPEAKER_09: Like I know.
- 22:45SPEAKER_08: Like my own memory journey.
- 22:47SPEAKER_08: Journey, but because a lot of people um attribute Ario Speedwagon, that song Keep on Loving You.
- 22:57SPEAKER_08: It was like a 1981 or something like that.
- 23:00SPEAKER_08: But Journey would have done it before that, right?
- 23:03SPEAKER_08: And even Toto would have done it before that.
- 23:05SPEAKER_09: Oh Toto had some series.
- 23:07SPEAKER_09: But I don't know if they're power ballads.
- 23:09SPEAKER_09: I don't know if I put them in the power ballads.
- 23:11SPEAKER_09: True.
- 23:12SPEAKER_09: Well, let's say what they mean.
- 23:13SPEAKER_08: Let's say what they mean.
- 23:15SPEAKER_08: So actually, right off the top of your head, if you had to think of I don't know, two or three power ballads when it when when it when it when you think of power ballads, what are the ones you think of?
- 23:28SPEAKER_09: Uh heaven by uh warranty.
- 23:30SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 23:31SPEAKER_09: Um or two more.
- 23:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 23:35SPEAKER_09: Um The Home One uh by Molly Group.
- 23:40SPEAKER_08: Uh Home Sweet Home?
- 23:41SPEAKER_09: Home Sweet Home.
- 23:42SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 23:43SPEAKER_09: Um I don't it's almost heresy to say.
- 23:48SPEAKER_09: Uh nothing else matters.
- 23:49SPEAKER_09: Metallica.
- 23:50SPEAKER_08: Why is it heresy to say?
- 23:51SPEAKER_09: Well, because it's it's Metallica.
- 23:53SPEAKER_09: They don't do power ballads.
- 23:54SPEAKER_09: But I bet it's on that list.
- 23:55SPEAKER_09: They are number 50.
- 23:56SPEAKER_09: I knew it.
- 23:57SPEAKER_09: I knew it.
- 23:58SPEAKER_09: I knew it was coming.
- 23:59SPEAKER_09: Number fifty.
- 24:00SPEAKER_09: Nothing else matters.
- 24:01SPEAKER_09: But it's not really a it's I mean it's not a ballad, but it's just a slow song.
- 24:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 24:05SPEAKER_09: But it's got that power.
- 24:06SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's got that Metallica like rah.
- 24:08SPEAKER_09: It does.
- 24:09SPEAKER_09: Especially in the uh guitar solo.
- 24:11SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 24:12SPEAKER_08: So um So yeah, nothing else matters.
- 24:14SPEAKER_08: 1991 for Metallica is number 50.
- 24:18SPEAKER_08: Um, and I don't know how I feel about it.
- 24:20SPEAKER_08: I guess I love that don't get the song is a masterpiece.
- 24:23SPEAKER_08: It's a great song, yes.
- 24:24SPEAKER_08: Absolutely.
- 24:25SPEAKER_08: But when I think of power ballads, I think of Open Arms by Journey.
- 24:29SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 24:30SPEAKER_08: Uh Faithfully by Journey.
- 24:32SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 24:32SPEAKER_08: Um When I see Never Say Goodbye, Bon Jovi.
- 24:35SPEAKER_08: Never say goodbye, Bon Jovi.
- 24:37SPEAKER_08: Um Always, Bon Jovi.
- 24:41SPEAKER_08: Um a lot of Bon Jovi.
- 24:43SPEAKER_08: When I see you smile bad English.
- 24:44SPEAKER_08: That's a power ballad.
- 24:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 24:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I give that one.
- 24:47SPEAKER_08: Um speedway.
- 24:49SPEAKER_08: Can't fight this feeling.
- 24:50SPEAKER_08: Can't fight this feeling.
- 24:51SPEAKER_08: So let's see what number 49 is.
- 24:53SPEAKER_08: Tesla, love song.
- 24:55SPEAKER_08: Isn't that weird?
- 24:56SPEAKER_08: I don't know if I can.
- 24:57SPEAKER_08: I don't know if I consider it a power ballad.
- 24:59SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 24:59SPEAKER_08: It's it doesn't really it's a love song.
- 25:02SPEAKER_08: So what constitutes a power ballad?
- 25:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 25:05SPEAKER_09: Is it like, you know, it's got like heavy guitar and whatnot?
- 25:08SPEAKER_08: Uh let's see.
- 25:10SPEAKER_09: Do they give an explanation?
- 25:11SPEAKER_08: It's just something about a rock band slowing things down and cracking up the emotion for generations.
- 25:15SPEAKER_08: The force of power ballads has been on full display.
- 25:18SPEAKER_08: These songs have launched careers and inspired fans across the globe to raise their lighters and later cell phones into the air.
- 25:24SPEAKER_08: No era embraced power ballads more than the eighties, uh, a time period when ridiculousness was at an all-time high.
- 25:30SPEAKER_08: Journey, heart, bon Jovi.
- 25:32SPEAKER_09: Oh, forgot about heart.
- 25:35SPEAKER_08: So they don't really say what a power ballad is.
- 25:38SPEAKER_09: Okay, so it's subjective.
- 25:40SPEAKER_08: It is subjective.
- 25:41SPEAKER_09: Um Love Song.
- 25:43SPEAKER_09: I mean, Love Song's great.
- 25:44SPEAKER_09: I I can see why it'd be power ballad.
- 25:46SPEAKER_09: I can too because it's a big chorus.
- 25:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's a big chorus.
- 25:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:52SPEAKER_09: I mean, I can see it.
- 25:54SPEAKER_09: But I mean that whole be that whole acoustic beginning is so yeah.
- 25:58SPEAKER_09: It's so cool.
- 25:59SPEAKER_09: It's classical.
- 26:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah, as soon as you hear that, you're like, you hear that being you're like, oh, you know, you get ready with the devil horns, you know.
- 26:07SPEAKER_08: Number 48, would you put Blaze of Glory as a power ballad?
- 26:11SPEAKER_08: No.
- 26:12SPEAKER_08: I I when it in the true sense of a ballad.
- 26:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 26:17SPEAKER_08: Like, I mean, the song's about Billy the Kid, right?
- 26:19SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's Well, I yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 26:23SPEAKER_09: Affectionalized version of Billy.
- 26:25SPEAKER_09: Right, right, right, right.
- 26:26SPEAKER_09: You know, but uh I I guess, I guess if you want to put it in that context, it would be a ballad.
- 26:30SPEAKER_08: Yeah, because you have all the because you it is a big chorus.
- 26:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 26:34SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_08: And Jeff Beck is playing the guitar, so I mean, come on.
- 26:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean but uh again, when I think of a power ballad, I don't think of Blaze of Glory.
- 26:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 26:43SPEAKER_09: I would I never would have put that on a list.
- 26:45SPEAKER_09: Blaze of Glory.
- 26:46SPEAKER_09: Pat Benatar, Shadows of the Night.
- 26:51SPEAKER_09: I don't think it's a power ball.
- 26:54SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's a great song.
- 26:56SPEAKER_09: I like it.
- 26:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we get to this is a video here.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: Surrender all your dreams to make tonight they'll come true and okay.
- 27:11SPEAKER_08: Well maybe it's got that 80s, got that 80s.
- 27:18SPEAKER_08: Can a ballad be upbeat?
- 27:23SPEAKER_09: I don't think I know this.
- 27:25SPEAKER_09: Doesn't this pick up?
- 27:27SPEAKER_09: I don't think it picks up it really fast.
- 27:31SPEAKER_09: Um it's been mid-tempo, mid-tempo, it's admitting, yeah.
- 27:36SPEAKER_09: I don't know what vintage World War II fighter planes have to do with the video, but alright.
- 27:42SPEAKER_09: I'll I'll I'll I'll play.
- 27:45SPEAKER_09: Right here, where the yeah, it kicked in here.
- 27:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 27:59SPEAKER_08: Again, I don't know if I'd call it a ballad.
- 28:03SPEAKER_09: I don't I know.
- 28:04SPEAKER_09: I mean it's a great song.
- 28:06SPEAKER_08: I think it's a great song.
- 28:07SPEAKER_09: I don't think I would classify it as a power ballad, though.
- 28:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I don't know.
- 28:10SPEAKER_09: I don't either.
- 28:11SPEAKER_09: Uh I didn't know she could fly in World War II airplanes, but alright.
- 28:15SPEAKER_09: Good for her.
- 28:16SPEAKER_09: She's she's a woman of many talents.
- 28:20SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's a French.
- 28:22SPEAKER_09: We can't watch this.
- 28:27SPEAKER_08: This is Asia.
- 28:29SPEAKER_08: The smile has left your eyes.
- 28:33SPEAKER_08: I can think of other songs I would have put on before this one.
- 28:39unknown: But now you come to me.
- 28:41SPEAKER_08: Well, it is low on the list, too.
- 28:44SPEAKER_08: But it's higher than nothing else matters.
- 28:47SPEAKER_08: True.
- 28:52SPEAKER_09: It's not really power ballad-ish.
- 28:55SPEAKER_09: It's Asia-ish.
- 28:56SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, it's definitely Asia, right?
- 28:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 29:01SPEAKER_09: It's pretty pretty keyboard heavy, you know, on synthetic.
- 29:05SPEAKER_09: Carry by Europe.
- 29:07SPEAKER_08: Oh, carry that.
- 29:08SPEAKER_08: That's a power ballot.
- 29:11SPEAKER_08: I wonder if that's on the list.
- 29:13SPEAKER_08: Cinderella, don't know what you got till it's gone.
- 29:15SPEAKER_08: Oh, obviously, that is a that's a that's a quintessential quintessential power ballot.
- 29:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah, for sure.
- 29:21SPEAKER_08: I can't believe that's at 45.
- 29:22SPEAKER_08: I would have put that.
- 29:23SPEAKER_08: I put that way higher.
- 29:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 29:25SPEAKER_08: Uh motorhead.
- 29:26SPEAKER_08: I ain't no nice guy.
- 29:28SPEAKER_09: Why is Motorhead on this list?
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: Are you freaking kidding me, man?
- 29:36SPEAKER_09: Lemmy is spinning in his grave.
- 29:40SPEAKER_08: Just because it's a slow song.
- 29:44SPEAKER_07: When I was young, I was the nicest guy I knew.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: Listening to the church.
- 29:55SPEAKER_08: When I was young, I was the nicest guy I knew.
- 29:57SPEAKER_08: I thought that was nice.
- 30:00SPEAKER_09: I think it's a little biased, but okay.
- 30:05SPEAKER_09: It's definitely a departure for Motorhead, but you know.
- 30:13SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's with Ozzy.
- 30:15SPEAKER_09: Ow.
- 30:17SPEAKER_09: Well, I don't know if that gives it power break, power ballad cred, but uh no, but there's a guy that that is on There's a he he I bet he's on here with that Lita Ford song.
- 30:27SPEAKER_09: Uh him and Lita Ford.
- 30:29SPEAKER_09: Close my eyes forever.
- 30:29SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I bet that's on here.
- 30:30SPEAKER_08: Or Close Your Eyes Forever.
- 30:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 30:31SPEAKER_08: I bet that's on.
- 30:32SPEAKER_08: No, Close My Eyes Forever.
- 30:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, my eyes.
- 30:33SPEAKER_08: Skid Roll, I remember you.
- 30:35SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 30:36SPEAKER_08: That's easy.
- 30:36SPEAKER_08: Yeah, great.
- 30:37SPEAKER_08: Easy.
- 30:37SPEAKER_08: Great song.
- 30:38SPEAKER_08: Starship, nothing's gonna stop us now.
- 30:40SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 30:42SPEAKER_08: I don't hear any power in that song.
- 30:45SPEAKER_09: Not really.
- 30:46SPEAKER_08: It's a balance.
- 30:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's a ballad.
- 30:47SPEAKER_09: Well, it's it's like it's like it's like it's like an Amish power milk toast.
- 30:52SPEAKER_09: It's it's Amish.
- 30:54SPEAKER_09: You know, it's like it's it's hor it's it's literally horsepower.
- 30:57SPEAKER_09: Power.
- 31:00SPEAKER_08: Aerosmith, I don't want to miss a thing.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it is.
- 31:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's a it's a power ballot.
- 31:05SPEAKER_08: Even Aerosmith doesn't like that song, I don't think.
- 31:07SPEAKER_08: I don't I think it just I think it got away from him.
- 31:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I do too.
- 31:11SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 31:11SPEAKER_08: Uh Aerosmith would be Angel must be on here.
- 31:14SPEAKER_09: Oh, I would say so.
- 31:16SPEAKER_09: That's a power body for you if there ever was one.
- 31:18SPEAKER_08: Bad English, the price of love.
- 31:20SPEAKER_08: Now, I would have put That's not the one I would have thought of.
- 31:23SPEAKER_08: No, I wonder if the other one is on there.
- 31:25SPEAKER_08: But this is maybe higher up.
- 31:26SPEAKER_08: This is a good song.
- 31:28SPEAKER_09: But listen to that.
- 31:29SPEAKER_09: That's a power ballad.
- 31:31SPEAKER_09: Right?
- 31:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's big.
- 31:39SPEAKER_09: Here's that stereotypical.
- 31:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you gotta have the key, you gotta have the keys in there.
- 31:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 31:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, is it power ballad if it doesn't have keys in it?
- 31:52SPEAKER_08: Well, love song.
- 31:53SPEAKER_09: Trucla.
- 31:54SPEAKER_09: Well, it's got an acoustic guitar though.
- 31:56SPEAKER_09: That's the keys of True.
- 31:59SPEAKER_08: I'll be there for you, Bon Jovi.
- 32:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 32:01SPEAKER_09: I think we I think we mentioned that, didn't we?
- 32:03SPEAKER_09: Uh nope.
- 32:03SPEAKER_09: Oh no, we said say never say goodbye.
- 32:05SPEAKER_08: Chicago, you're the inspiration.
- 32:07SPEAKER_09: You're the meaning in Madonna.
- 32:09SPEAKER_09: I don't know if I would call it a power ballad.
- 32:15SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's definitely a ballad.
- 32:16SPEAKER_09: I would I would give it that.
- 32:18SPEAKER_09: It's when they started going soft with uh Sotera and David Foster.
- 32:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 32:22SPEAKER_08: So uh Lita Ford and Ozzie Osborne.
- 32:25SPEAKER_08: There it is.
- 32:27SPEAKER_08: You knew that was coming.
- 32:29SPEAKER_08: Oh, look at this.
- 32:30SPEAKER_08: I I wouldn't call this a power ballad.
- 32:34SPEAKER_09: What?
- 32:35SPEAKER_08: Right?
- 32:35SPEAKER_09: Air supply?
- 32:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 32:37SPEAKER_09: No.
- 32:37SPEAKER_09: Why are they on the ultimate class of the city?
- 32:39SPEAKER_09: They are not no, no.
- 32:41SPEAKER_09: Great song.
- 32:41SPEAKER_09: No, give me, don't get me wrong.
- 32:43SPEAKER_09: It's a great song.
- 32:44SPEAKER_09: Does not belong on this list.
- 32:52SPEAKER_09: Did these guys meet doing Jesus Christ Superstar?
- 32:56SPEAKER_09: I have no idea.
- 32:57SPEAKER_09: Like the Australian version.
- 33:05SPEAKER_08: Dude, this is it's ballad.
- 33:07SPEAKER_08: It's pop music.
- 33:08SPEAKER_08: I mean it's it's a pop ballad.
- 33:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 33:10SPEAKER_08: It's and the title is 50 greatest power ballads in rock history.
- 33:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah, this this air supply is not rock.
- 33:18SPEAKER_08: No, sorry.
- 33:19SPEAKER_09: I like I like Arrow Squad.
- 33:22SPEAKER_09: I do too.
- 33:30SPEAKER_09: See, I I do like I hate that guy's voice.
- 33:32SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 33:34SPEAKER_09: It sounds like it's put on.
- 33:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 33:38SPEAKER_09: It's green.
- 33:40SPEAKER_09: Oh man, Amanda.
- 33:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_09: Boston.
- 33:43SPEAKER_09: It's that's a power ballad.
- 33:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, because the chorus comes in and big big power balls.
- 33:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: Something I just have to say.
- 33:55SPEAKER_08: My biggest pet peeve with this album, because this is from third stage.
- 33:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 33:59SPEAKER_08: Which is obviously the third album.
- 34:02SPEAKER_08: It's so quiet.
- 34:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was a mixed loud.
- 34:06SPEAKER_08: Very, very, very quiet.
- 34:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 34:08SPEAKER_08: You have to crank it up, and even when you crank it up, it's not that still not that loud.
- 34:22SPEAKER_08: Just wait for the chorus.
- 34:33SPEAKER_09: Alright guys, pick it up steam now.
- 34:37SPEAKER_09: There we go.
- 34:37SPEAKER_09: Big chorus.
- 34:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah, good stuff.
- 35:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 35:08SPEAKER_08: Um, here's another song that the band hates, but uh The Flame.
- 35:12SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah.
- 35:13SPEAKER_08: Cheap Trick.
- 35:13SPEAKER_08: Cheap Trick hates that song.
- 35:15SPEAKER_08: They do.
- 35:15SPEAKER_08: Beth by Kiss.
- 35:16SPEAKER_08: Would you could say I wouldn't consider it a power ballad.
- 35:18SPEAKER_09: I wouldn't either.
- 35:19SPEAKER_09: Definitely a ballad.
- 35:19SPEAKER_09: It's a ballad.
- 35:20SPEAKER_09: Not a power ballad.
- 35:21SPEAKER_09: I agree.
- 35:22SPEAKER_09: Because it doesn't pick up.
- 35:23SPEAKER_09: No, it doesn't.
- 35:24SPEAKER_09: It's just stringy.
- 35:25SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 35:25SPEAKER_09: All the way through.
- 35:26SPEAKER_09: Same thing with Eternal Flame by the Bangles.
- 35:29SPEAKER_09: That's not a power ballad.
- 35:30SPEAKER_09: It's a ballad.
- 35:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah, this is just straight up ballad.
- 35:32SPEAKER_09: No power to it.
- 35:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:34SPEAKER_08: Although Susannah Hoff's uh throwing it all away from Genesis?
- 35:40SPEAKER_08: Not a power ballad.
- 35:42SPEAKER_09: Not a power ballad, man.
- 35:43SPEAKER_09: What the frick?
- 35:44SPEAKER_08: It's number 31.
- 35:45SPEAKER_08: I love the song.
- 35:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's a great song, but not a power ballad.
- 35:48SPEAKER_08: Love hurts, Nazareth.
- 35:52SPEAKER_09: Power ballad-ish.
- 35:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 35:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 35:55SPEAKER_08: Maybe it's who's singing it.
- 35:57SPEAKER_08: Maybe it's if it's a rock band, a hard, like hard rock band singing it.
- 36:04SPEAKER_09: That's known for Yeah, but Genesis is not known for.
- 36:07SPEAKER_09: Well, that's why I'm saying they shouldn't be on the list.
- 36:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:10SPEAKER_08: Um Whitesnake is this love.
- 36:12SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, that's power ballad.
- 36:14SPEAKER_08: Right?
- 36:14SPEAKER_08: Mm-hmm.
- 36:15SPEAKER_08: Uh Berlin, take my breath away.
- 36:18SPEAKER_08: No.
- 36:19SPEAKER_08: Ballad.
- 36:20SPEAKER_08: Not a power ballad.
- 36:21SPEAKER_08: Not a power ballad.
- 36:22SPEAKER_08: Guns and Roses, patience.
- 36:25SPEAKER_08: Not a power ballad.
- 36:26SPEAKER_08: Not ballad.
- 36:27SPEAKER_08: Ballad.
- 36:27SPEAKER_08: Not a power ballad.
- 36:28SPEAKER_08: Not a power ballad.
- 36:29SPEAKER_08: Great song, but there's no power to it.
- 36:30SPEAKER_08: Bon Jovi always.
- 36:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I give it up.
- 36:35SPEAKER_08: Uh Sticks, Lady.
- 36:37SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 36:38SPEAKER_08: Power ballot.
- 36:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:39SPEAKER_08: Very powerful.
- 36:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:40SPEAKER_08: Big chorus.
- 36:41SPEAKER_08: Uh listen to your heart, Roxette.
- 36:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah?
- 36:46SPEAKER_09: I actually would.
- 36:48SPEAKER_09: I actually would with this one.
- 36:50SPEAKER_09: Because it's got the big it's got the big It does have a big chorus.
- 36:54SPEAKER_09: Almost sounds like a heart song.
- 36:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 37:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:08SPEAKER_08: I would consider this a parabolic.
- 37:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:10SPEAKER_09: Wait, yeah.
- 37:15SPEAKER_08: Rest in peace, man.
- 37:16SPEAKER_08: She was amazing.
- 37:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_09: She had a great voice, Daddy.
- 37:20SPEAKER_09: When did she pass?
- 37:22SPEAKER_09: Um just recently?
- 37:24SPEAKER_09: No.
- 37:24SPEAKER_09: It was you would ask.
- 37:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:30SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, like right here.
- 37:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's very hard.
- 37:36SPEAKER_09: Very hard.
- 37:37SPEAKER_09: Isn't it?
- 37:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:44SPEAKER_09: Did I say the name of the band?
- 37:45SPEAKER_09: Rocktep.
- 37:46SPEAKER_09: Rockteck.
- 37:47SPEAKER_08: I thought I did.
- 37:48SPEAKER_09: I don't think you did, but we we just we just knew what it was, right?
- 37:51SPEAKER_09: As soon as you hear that song, you're like, ah, I know what it's I'm looking at when when she passed.
- 38:08SPEAKER_09: I mean it's not critical, but you know, I was just kind of curious.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: Um the freshest moments are all last and waiting.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: Nothing is what it seems in a belonging to a dream.
- 38:29SPEAKER_08: 2019.
- 38:30SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 38:30SPEAKER_08: So it wasn't that long ago.
- 38:33SPEAKER_08: She was uh she was 61.
- 38:35SPEAKER_08: She had a brain tumor.
- 38:36SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 38:36SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 38:38unknown: Yeah.

- 38:41SPEAKER_08: They were they were great.
- 38:42SPEAKER_08: They were pretty great.
- 38:42SPEAKER_08: They had a lot of hits.
- 38:44SPEAKER_08: I just died in your arms tonight.
- 38:45SPEAKER_08: Cutting crew.
- 38:46SPEAKER_08: Cutting crew, yeah.
- 38:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, I would consider it power ballad.
- 38:49SPEAKER_09: You would?
- 38:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:50SPEAKER_09: I don't know that I would.
- 38:51SPEAKER_09: It's poppy, but uh it's it's definitely a power ballad.
- 38:55SPEAKER_09: Of course I I like the song a lot, too.
- 38:57SPEAKER_08: I do too.
- 38:58SPEAKER_08: Love bites, Death Leopard.
- 38:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah, power ballot.
- 39:00SPEAKER_08: Definitely.

- 39:02SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 39:03SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 39:04SPEAKER_08: Uh Scorpions, Wind of Change.
- 39:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 39:11SPEAKER_08: When I think of ballad, I think of Love.
- 39:16SPEAKER_09: But I think it was more of a, you know, peace and you know.
- 39:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 39:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I guess it could be power ballad.
- 39:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 39:26SPEAKER_08: Every rose has its thorn, the poison.
- 39:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 39:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah, definitely.
- 39:29SPEAKER_08: Phil Collins against all odds.
- 39:41SPEAKER_09: Now.
- 39:42SPEAKER_09: Ballad.
- 39:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah, definitely a ballad, but not power ballad.
- 39:47SPEAKER_08: Because does it does it get powerful?
- 39:50SPEAKER_08: Oh, I mean, I think it picks up in the chorus.
- 39:52SPEAKER_09: The chorus is big, but it's not like you know.
- 39:57SPEAKER_09: But it's a great song, you know, nonetheless.
- 39:59SPEAKER_09: No question.
- 40:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 40:00SPEAKER_08: No question.
- 40:00SPEAKER_08: I love a lot of Phil Collins.
- 40:02SPEAKER_08: Most everything Phil Collins doesn't.
- 40:04SPEAKER_08: Journey Open Arms.
- 40:05SPEAKER_08: We mentioned that.
- 40:05SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 40:06SPEAKER_08: That's easy.
- 40:07SPEAKER_08: That's number 17.
- 40:08SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 40:09SPEAKER_08: Mmm.
- 40:11SPEAKER_08: Would you consider this a power ballad?
- 40:16SPEAKER_09: More than world?
- 40:17SPEAKER_09: More than a feeling?
- 40:18SPEAKER_09: More than a feeling.
- 40:19SPEAKER_09: No.
- 40:20SPEAKER_07: Well.
- 40:22SPEAKER_09: The chorus is big.
- 40:24SPEAKER_09: I will get it.
- 40:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's it's balladie.
- 40:28SPEAKER_09: But it I mean, it's no Amanda.
- 40:32SPEAKER_09: But the chorus is big.
- 40:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, for sure.
- 40:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's ballad.
- 40:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 40:42SPEAKER_09: I'd I'd put it in a power ballad.
- 40:44SPEAKER_09: Would you?
- 40:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 40:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah, wait, wait till the chorus kicks in.
- 40:53SPEAKER_09: Right here.
- 40:59SPEAKER_09: But I don't consider that a ballad.
- 41:01SPEAKER_09: It's ballad E.
- 41:03SPEAKER_09: I'm not saying it's a true, it's a is it the definition of a power ballad?
- 41:07SPEAKER_09: No.
- 41:07SPEAKER_09: That's a rocker.
- 41:08SPEAKER_09: It's definitely a rocker, but it's it's definitely got power ballad tendencies.
- 41:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 41:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 41:14SPEAKER_08: Alright, well, we'll have to.
- 41:15SPEAKER_09: I I I'll I give it.
- 41:16SPEAKER_09: I'll I'll give it that.
- 41:17SPEAKER_08: Totally clips of the heart by Bonnie Tyler.
- 41:20SPEAKER_08: No.
- 41:20SPEAKER_09: Not Power Ballad.
- 41:21SPEAKER_08: You don't think so?
- 41:21unknown: No.
- 41:22SPEAKER_08: What's your reasoning there?
- 41:24SPEAKER_08: Just because it's not.
- 41:27SPEAKER_09: Good choice.
- 41:28SPEAKER_09: I mean, I love the song, don't get me wrong, but uh, you know, I just don't I just don't feel like it is uh it's got that ah feel to it.
- 41:36SPEAKER_08: Um you were you were good choice on Warrant from uh or Heaven from Warrant.
- 41:42SPEAKER_08: They're number 14.
- 41:43SPEAKER_08: Fancy.
- 41:44SPEAKER_08: Mr.
- 41:45SPEAKER_08: Mr.
- 41:45SPEAKER_08: Broken Wings.
- 41:46SPEAKER_08: Not a power ballot.
- 41:47SPEAKER_08: Not a power ballot, no.
- 41:48SPEAKER_08: Good a good song, great song.
- 41:50SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah.

- 42:03SPEAKER_09: Oh, for sure.
- 42:04SPEAKER_08: Uh Heaven, Brian Adams.
- 42:06SPEAKER_09: I didn't even consider that.
- 42:07SPEAKER_09: Neither did I, but that is definitely a power ballad.
- 42:09SPEAKER_09: It is a power ballad, yeah.
- 42:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:11SPEAKER_08: Night Ranger is just a Christian.
- 42:13SPEAKER_08: Right?
- 42:15SPEAKER_09: Is it?
- 42:16SPEAKER_09: No, no, yeah.
- 42:17SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah, okay.
- 42:20SPEAKER_08: Meatloaf.

- 42:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 42:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 42:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, definitely.
- 42:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 42:26SPEAKER_08: I would say that.
- 42:27SPEAKER_08: Dream On from Aerosmith.
- 42:29SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 42:30SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 42:30SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 42:31SPEAKER_08: Montley Crew Home Sweet Home, you mentioned.
- 42:33SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 42:33SPEAKER_08: Uh number five.
- 42:35SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 42:35SPEAKER_08: Is that number five?
- 42:36SPEAKER_08: No, no, that's number six.
- 42:37SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 42:38SPEAKER_08: Uh Foreigner, I want to know what love is, is number five.
- 42:41SPEAKER_08: I never thought of it.
- 42:42SPEAKER_08: Neither did I.
- 42:42SPEAKER_08: Never.
- 42:43SPEAKER_08: But does that pick up?
- 42:45SPEAKER_08: It's a big chorus.
- 42:46SPEAKER_08: It is a big chorus.
- 42:47SPEAKER_08: It's definitely a powerful emotional chorus.
- 42:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:50SPEAKER_08: Alright.
- 42:52SPEAKER_08: Journey, don't stop believing.
- 42:54SPEAKER_08: Is that a bad?
- 42:55SPEAKER_09: I don't think it's a power ballad.
- 42:56SPEAKER_08: I don't think so either.
- 42:57SPEAKER_08: I think it's a great song.
- 42:58SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's a great song, but I don't think it's a powerboard.
- 42:59SPEAKER_09: I don't think it's a power ballad.
- 43:00SPEAKER_08: No.
- 43:01SPEAKER_08: Guns N' Roses, November Rain.
- 43:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 43:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 43:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's a big power ballad.
- 43:06SPEAKER_09: That friggin' that friggin' slash solo in that song, man, just makes hair stand up.
- 43:13SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean, man?
- 43:14SPEAKER_09: And it just kills.
- 43:15SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 43:16SPEAKER_09: Um I mean, the video is a little heavy-handed, but that's the way they were at that point.
- 43:22SPEAKER_09: You know, they were just I mean the video is a s it's a small movie.
- 43:28SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 43:29SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 43:30SPEAKER_09: Number two.
- 43:34SPEAKER_08: Come on.
- 43:35SPEAKER_08: Great so far.
- 43:36SPEAKER_08: Oh, I didn't have it turned up.
- 43:39SPEAKER_08: Well, maybe I I do have it turned up.
- 43:41SPEAKER_08: Why is it not light enough?
- 43:42SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 43:43SPEAKER_08: Oh, because the audio's off.
- 43:44SPEAKER_08: Hold on.
- 43:45SPEAKER_08: Here we go.
- 43:46SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, heart.
- 43:48SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 43:48SPEAKER_08: Now this was, believe it or not, co-written by Bernie Toppin.
- 43:52SPEAKER_09: Really?
- 43:53SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 43:53SPEAKER_09: Wow.
- 43:54SPEAKER_08: The lyrics anyway.
- 43:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 43:57SPEAKER_08: This is a great song.
- 43:58SPEAKER_08: I love this song.
- 43:58SPEAKER_08: Oh, and this is this is quintessential power when when that friggin' guitar kicks in man you're just like and when my favorite part in this whole song I love this song yeah but when the get when when it's I think it's after the solo where Ann Wilson goes just goes do you know what I'm talking about yeah I'm I'm gonna find it now because that's my favorite part I just hold on here it comes here it comes it just blew up the piano did you see that they did yeah hold on totally missed it I was too busy going watch your arm I when the man comes in that's power fire funny that's it right that was it right here and we'll start I love that love that song such a great song okay so what do you think is the biggest power ballad number one on Ultimate Classic Rocks list I have no idea it's probably gonna be Bob Marley it's not UCR It's gonna be something really I'm gonna be really upset with I don't think you're gonna be upset okay I don't think you're gonna be upset I do my gonna question is power ballad credit yeah okay I think you will I think it's definitely a ballad yeah I think it's an amazing song I don't know there are aspects of it that could be considered power ballot purple rain yeah oh totally power ballad you think so yes yeah especially the end well yeah that's what I was thinking yeah where the guitar comes in and yeah there's power ballad I never been to call it I guess I can I can concur yeah no I I I don't I would I don't know if I would say this is the greatest one right I wouldn't either definitely definitely a great power ballad yeah yes what did they leave off did they leave anything off oh there's probably tons I mean there's there's songs that we listen to that we would be like oh yeah that's a power ballad but you know it they're probably deep tracks headed for a heartbreak winger yeah that'd be I would say that was a that was a that was a power ballad.
- 47:22SPEAKER_08: Yep you know what I mean um shoot I mean there's so many I mean that we we could go days talking about power ballots yeah yeah but um so some some weird ones on that list.
- 47:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah some I would never consider to be power ballad yeah yeah for the most part though it was a pretty good list.
- 47:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah I would say so yeah I think I think kudos Ultimate classic rock alright we we agree with most of that yeah we agree with most of it sounds good that's a nice uh that's a nice uh trip down memory it was like oh yeah that's like oh yeah that's yeah I would have put the heart one first I probably would have too yeah yeah I probably so so when you think of middle and high school dances from when you were a kid what are some power ball some ballads that stand out well we I remember Wonderful Tonight yeah from Eric Clapton it's not necessarily a power battle not a power ballot but it was that was the closing song that's every school dance yeah every school dance we ended with Wonderful Tonight Never Say Goodbye was that on the list?
- 48:30SPEAKER_08: No I'll be there for you was on there that's right that's what it wasby wasn't Never Say Goodbye to me uh was an awesome song yeah um oh I know one I don't have any That was a big that was a big song man this is the guy Fred uh Fred Durst no the lead singer is it Fred Curry no Fred Curry's with Cinderella yeah it was uh Fred Kirchy was the lead singer look I think I'm gonna I'm gonna tie up uh some uh ends here that you didn't you didn't even know needed to meet okay very well this is this is a power ballad that's a power ballot I'm surprised this didn't make the list as a kickstin right here yeah oh a lot of survivor would be power ballads oh yeah yeah yeah search is over yeah this song was the one that he fred Fred Kirchy was known for that last note oh yeah all one breath almost hearts to listen to right yeah what about uh steel heart oh uh yeah I'll never let you go yeah same thing guy guy held the note forever well a power ballad too yep definitely a power ballad um so this one that you didn't know so so in the 80s you had the 80s version of heart right with Ann and Nancy Wilson and then a bunch of other guys and because it was not you notice nobody knows anybody else in heart except Anne and Nancy well yeah nobody knows them right they're just like it's like Anne Nancy Howard Lees dude used to play guitar for them so I knew that but I'm a guitar player so I followed yeah but um so in the the 80s version of heart was different than the 70s version of heart oh yeah they're reformed yeah and Anne and Nancy Wilson really hate the 80s version of heart um they were me too but you know they were appreciative of the hits but they felt like you know anyway um so when that 80s version of heart kind of went away the rest of the band needed something to do.
- 52:09SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 52:09SPEAKER_08: Um I think the bass the drummer was Mike DeRoger uh I can't remember who the guitar player was and there was a couple other guys that came from other bands but Fred Kirchy from Sheriff uh got together with these guys and they did this song.
- 52:26SPEAKER_09: Okay, this is the Hers List That's a commercial why would they do that?
- 52:36SPEAKER_08: Oh alias yeah I didn't know that was them yeah same guy oh more than words can say yes this'll bring back some memories yeah it already is man at six o'clock in the morning still thinking about you it's still hard yeah I always I used to make a joke about that it's still hard with that not so much these days but you know but definitely a power bell oh for sure man when this came out was it play babies early 90s 90s 1990 yeah yeah great great song great great song yeah I totally forgot about this one yeah I remember uh quite the uh high school dance or middle school dance actually no it would have been high school dance yeah it would have been high school high school dance that uh I danced to this song yep yeah yeah good stuff good stuff power ballads are always uh I like power ballads welcome on the O'Brien and Doug Party yeah all right so we're gonna take right we'll listen here listen about our sponsors listen about them we're gonna listen about them listen about our sponsors and we're gonna listen to cousin Darry right cousin we're gonna come back we're gonna climb the wall of tunes and you're gonna read uh are you gonna do the I am I'm gonna read some the ball bit do we have a Michael McDonald moment I don't have one that's fine yeah his book will be coming out in a couple weeks I'm excited yeah as soon as that happens we're gonna have a Michael McDonald moment forever.

- 56:25SPEAKER_09: Alright here we go so today's song is Not a Second Time from with the Beatles.
- 56:32SPEAKER_09: Paul has said that the musical inspiration behind Not a Second Time was Smokey Robinson in the Miracles.
- 56:39SPEAKER_09: Whereas the main writing honors were claimed by John which is interesting.
- 56:44SPEAKER_09: It was another example of John allowing his feelings in this case being wounded to wash over wash all over his work.
- 56:52SPEAKER_09: After having been let down and made to cry the writer's response is to shut down his emotions because he can't face the possibility of being hurt all over again it was one of the first Beatles songs to be subjected to critical analysis by a quality newspaper.
- 57:10SPEAKER_09: What?
- 57:11SPEAKER_09: Is that it William Mann Yeah there we go then music critic of the Times London compared part of it to Gustav Mahler's Song of the Earth.
- 57:24SPEAKER_09: John would later say that this review was responsible for starting the whole intellectual bit about the Beatles.
- 57:31SPEAKER_09: Harmonic interest is typical of their quicker songs too man wrote and one gets the impression that they think simultaneously of harmony and melody so firmly are the major tonic sevenths and ninths built into their tunes and the flat submediate key switches I was thinking the same thing.
- 57:52SPEAKER_09: Wow so natural is the aeolian cadence at the end of not a second what is who wrote this who is this guy Gustav Mahler Aeolian is A E O L I A scale it's a it's a it's a scale okay like a mode.
- 58:12SPEAKER_09: Alright that's fine I thought it was like some dude um John's comment on this was I didn't know what the hell it was all about I'm with John I have no idea what it was about another time he said he thought Aeolian cadences sounded like exotic birds that's it's all second time not a second time right here's one of the only Beatles albums that I don't have with the Beatles.
- 59:05SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 59:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah that's interesting man actually I don't have the beat with the Beatles or Pastmasters any of the Pastmasters ones.
- 59:11SPEAKER_08: Oh I got I got it all many and you know the the two the two um like best of that are like the blue one and the red one yeah I don't have those either but I mean I have all the but you have all the songs yeah yeah I do.

- 1:08:48SPEAKER_08: Well, speaking of the Riviera album.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_08: Riviera album is an awesome album.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_08: So speaking of that, Todd's favorite song that he's done is from that album.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_08: And it's my favorite.

- 1:13:01SPEAKER_08: He's like, Yeah, no.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's like he's like, no, I think people when people hear music, they want to hear human.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_08: You know, a human aspect to it.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_08: He's absolutely right.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_08: He's absolutely right.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_08: Did you hear that Randy Travis is releasing a new album?

- 1:13:51SPEAKER_08: Not gonna do it.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_08: So anyway, uh Secret Mission was not from the album of the night.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_08: That was from Riviera.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_08: But the album of the night was Big Hit Todd the Monsters Crimes of Passion.
