- 0:15Teach distinctions. Possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking and just bring some joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning.
- 0:31So how many of you remember the children's book The Emperors New
- 0:35Clothes? Well, we think it's a children's
- 0:36book. Let me back up and say there's a
- 0:38book, an old book, Hans Christian Anderson, The
- 0:42Emperor's New Clothes, and it's a folk tale.
- 0:44So folk tales were not necessarily intended for
- 0:48children. They were intended for
- 0:50everybody. At the at the time, people
- 0:52didn't just read children's books or you know, it was always
- 0:55about the tales, bigger, bigger stories, things to really kind
- 0:59of help us grow as humans because they were very, very
- 1:03powerful stories that were being handed down.
- 1:06But anyway, back to this. So the, the tale of this comes
- 1:10back to the fact that this emperor, cause again, the
- 1:15emperor's new clothes was extremely vain and he was
- 1:18obsessed with wearing the best, finest clothes throughout the
- 1:23the land and that anyone could possibly find.
- 1:26And he hired these weavers that came in, but they were very
- 1:31deceptive weavers. They knew who this person was,
- 1:35and they knew that he was like, you know, going to just put them
- 1:37through all kinds of stuff and, you know, make their lives
- 1:40miserable. But they were very cunning.
- 1:43And essentially they promised to make him the most amazing suits,
- 1:48the so special that they would be invisible to anyone who was
- 1:53stupid or not necessarily good in their position, unworthy.
- 1:57So the emperor, you know, obviously this sounded great to
- 2:01him, and he didn't want to appear foolish.
- 2:03He pretended to see the clothes because he didn't want to, you
- 2:08know, say I can't see the clothes because then he would be
- 2:11proven to be stupid and unworthy of his position.
- 2:14So he didn't want to tell them, OK, yes, he's naked.
- 2:18And his ministers were just as afraid to see, to appear
- 2:22incompetent. So they pretended to see the
- 2:24clothes because, again, the weavers basically said, well,
- 2:28anyone who can't see them is stupid or, you know, they should
- 2:32not be in their position. So this lie grew and grew.
- 2:35And when the emperor went parading through town wearing
- 2:38invisible clothes, he was completely naked.
- 2:41He's in front of the townspeople.
- 2:42He's walking down the street, you know, buck naked.
- 2:46And everyone doesn't want to say, oh, my gosh, he's naked.
- 2:51Because then they're stupid and they don't know what's going to
- 2:54happen to them because we all know.
- 2:56Everyone's constantly worried about what's going to happen to
- 2:58them because that's a primary question we all ask What does it
- 3:01mean to me? And so here he goes walking down
- 3:04the street. And then there's only one
- 3:07interruption in this when a child who doesn't know any
- 3:11better, doesn't have the fear, doesn't have any aspect of that
- 3:15in in in his little head says, but he isn't wearing anything at
- 3:19all. It shocked and the the innocence
- 3:23of the child breaks the illusion.
- 3:25And the Emperor, though he was embarrassed though he was, you
- 3:29know, clearly he knew what was going on.
- 3:32He was naked because he knew he was naked, continues to walk.
- 3:36Too stubborn to admit his mistake, he just kept on going
- 3:40and everyone else continued the same way.
- 3:43Now this, this whole story is so rich with so many things because
- 3:48it deals with the power of how we deceive ourselves even when
- 3:52we know better, because no one's going to say that that person
- 3:54didn't know that they were naked.
- 3:56And of course they knew that they were naked.
- 3:58And when you, when you start thinking about it, the how, when
- 4:03we get into that collective thinking, how a hive of
- 4:06collective thinking can screw us up because everyone is saying
- 4:09the same thing, even though they're feeling something
- 4:11different externally. They don't want to break the
- 4:14strength of the crowd. And then you go even deeper into
- 4:17this and you say, wow, it takes the the the courage of a child
- 4:22who doesn't know they should be afraid yet to actually speak the
- 4:26truth. They, he, this child was able to
- 4:30see it with his own eyes and just speak the truth.
- 4:32And how much we've gone away from that as our as our own
- 4:36person, as we are, as we grow up.
- 4:38So we armor ourselves with these invisible robes to help us, if
- 4:43you will be based on the parable of the story, he's got no robe
- 4:46but you. We put these robes on to protect
- 4:48ourselves and say, Oh yeah, I agree, even though we don't.
- 4:51And underneath that keeps us trapped in anxiousness because
- 4:55we know the truth. We get exhausted of telling
- 4:57lies. We're afraid to tell the truth.
- 4:59And it's all about how this is hiding our real strength of who
- 5:04we are. Transformation truly begins when
- 5:08we figure out what's not real. What are we hiding?
- 5:12What are we putting under that robe, that cloak that we put
- 5:15over ourselves to protect ourselves?
- 5:17Because that's when the shifts happen.
- 5:19When we're honest, when we can look at it all and say, you know
- 5:22what? I'm going to be completely
- 5:24honest with myself. I'm going to listen to the
- 5:25little whispers that my soul and my heart are sending me, and I'm
- 5:28going to do something different for myself.
- 5:31All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:33hope you don't see any naked emperors walking around.
