  Ezekiel chapter 13. First let's pray.

  Dear God, please be with us as we read through this chapter and
• 0:11
  let us understand what you want us to know from this and also
• 0:16
  how it may apply to our life. We ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
• 0:23
  This is titled False Prophets condemned.
• 0:28
  The word of the Lord came to me, Son of Man, prophecy against the
• 0:32
  prophets of Israel who are now prophesying.
• 0:36
  Say to those who prophecy out of their own imagination, hear the
• 0:42
  word of the Lord. This is what the Sovereign Lord
• 0:45
  says. Woe to the foolish prophets who
• 0:49
  follow their own spirit and have seen nothing.
• 0:55
  Your prophets, Israel, are like jackals among ruins.
• 1:00
  You have not gone up to the breeches in the wall to repair
• 1:03
  it for the people of Israel, so that it will stand firm in the
• 1:08
  battle on the day of the Lord. Their visions are false and
• 1:13
  their divinations a lie. Even though the Lord has not
• 1:17
  sent them. They say the Lord declares and
• 1:22
  expect him to fulfill their words.
• 1:25
  Have you not seen false visions and uttered lying divinations?
• 1:30
  When you say the Lord declares, though I have not spoken?
• 1:35
  Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says.
• 1:38
  Because of your false words and lying visions, I am against you,
• 1:42
  declares the Sovereign Lord. My hand will be against the
• 1:46
  prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations.
• 1:52
  They will not belong to the council of My people or be
• 1:55
  listed in the records of Israel, nor will they enter the land of
• 2:00
  Israel. Then you will know that I am the
• 2:02
  Sovereign Lord because they lead my people astray, saying peace
• 2:09
  when there is no peace, and because when a flimsy wall is
• 2:13
  built, they cover it with whitewash.
• 2:15
  Therefore, tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is
• 2:19
  going to fall. Rain will come in torrents and I
• 2:23
  will send hailstones hurling down and violent winds will
• 2:28
  burst forth. When the wall collapses, the
• 2:32
  will people not ask you where is the whitewash you covered it
• 2:36
  with? Therefore, this is what the
• 2:39
  Southern Sovereign Lord says. In my wrath I will unleash a
• 2:45
  violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain
• 2:51
  will fall. With destructive fury I will
• 2:56
  tear down the wall that you have covered with whitewash and will
• 2:59
  level it to the ground so that its foundations will be laid
• 3:03
  bare. When it falls, you will be
• 3:06
  destroyed in it, and you will know that I am the Lord.
• 3:11
  So I will pour out my wrath against the wall and against
• 3:15
  those who covered it with whitewash.
• 3:17
  I will say to you, the wall is gone, and so are those who
• 3:22
  whitewashed it. Those prophets of Israel who
• 3:26
  prophesied to Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her when
• 3:31
  there was no peace, declares the Sovereign Lord.
• 3:35
  Now, Son of Man, set your face against the daughters of your
• 3:39
  people who prophecy out of their own imagination, prophecy
• 3:45
  against them, and say this is what the Sovereign Lord says.
• 3:49
  Woe to the women who sow magic charms on all their wrists and
• 3:53
  make veils of various lengths for their heads in order to
• 3:57
  ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of my
• 4:01
  people but preserve your own? You have profaned me among my
• 4:06
  people for a few handfuls of barley and scraps of bread.
• 4:10
  By lying to my people who listen to lies, You have killed those
• 4:15
  who should not have died and have spared those who should not
• 4:20
  live. Therefore, this is what the
• 4:24
  Sovereign Lord says. I am against your magic charms
• 4:29
  with which you ensnare people like birds, and I will tear them
• 4:34
  from your arms. I will set free the people that
• 4:37
  you ensnare like birds. I will tear off your veils and
• 4:40
  save my people from your hands, and they will no longer fall
• 4:44
  prey to your power. Then you will know that I am the
• 4:47
  Lord because you disheartened the righteous with your lies
• 4:52
  when I brought them no grief, and because you encouraged the
• 4:56
  wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their
• 5:01
  lives. Therefore you will no longer see
• 5:06
  false visions or practice divination.
• 5:10
  I will save my people from your hands, and then you will know
• 5:14
  that I am the Lord. And that's the end of chapter
• 5:19
  13. So there's a lot of God is not
• 5:24
  happy with people who make things up and say that they're
• 5:27
  hearing from the Lord and start sharing things with people from
• 5:32
  the prophets that we read in the Bible.
• 5:35
  The prophecies that are usually given are not things that are
• 5:42
  that people want to hear, I guess because it's calling
• 5:45
  people to repentance, it's calling people to change their
• 5:50
  ways to get right with God. And these other people
• 5:55
  apparently are telling them good things like, oh, there's going
• 5:59
  to be peace. And even now I think about that
• 6:02
  today, because our, all of you know, so many countries now, I
• 6:07
  mean, they are focusing on war and peace.
• 6:09
  Honestly, they everybody's seems to be getting ready for war, but
• 6:14
  at the same time, they're trying to establish peace in so many
• 6:19
  different areas. And then I think about what
• 6:22
  Jesus said about, you know, they when, you know, when they say
• 6:26
  peace and safety, then come sudden destruction.
• 6:31
  Actually, I don't know if that was, I'd have to look that up
• 6:34
  again to see if that was a prophet or if that was Jesus who
• 6:37
  said that. But what Jesus did say was that
• 6:41
  wars would continue until, you know, rumors, wars and rumors of
• 6:47
  wars would continue until the end.
• 6:49
  So he did say that. So does that mean that we will
• 6:53
  be in a constant state of that until he returns?
• 6:58
  I'm not sure. Is there going to be a pause
• 7:00
  where there will be peace for a bit?
• 7:03
  Apparently there will be something like that because it's
• 7:07
  going to be surprising to people.
• 7:09
  People will think there's peace, but then there will come the
• 7:13
  sudden destruction. So I guess we just really at
• 7:19
  this point in time, we all need to be so close to God that we
• 7:25
  hear from him, that we communicate with him because
• 7:30
  there's going to be confusion by people and there will be people
• 7:36
  who say they are hearing from God, but they're really not
• 7:38
  hearing from God. And so you can't really trust
• 7:41
  people because people are fallible and people do things
• 7:45
  for a variety of reasons. They could have selfish motives
• 7:49
  for the reasons why they're doing it, or they just could be
• 7:52
  deceived too. So we have to have a personal
• 7:57
  relationship with God and be able to hear from God and
• 8:02
  understand and be able to discern spirits of people,
• 8:06
  especially in these in these in the time that we're in.
• 8:10
  So going back to the study Bible, I'll go through some of
• 8:15
  the questions and answers and then probably conclude for this
• 8:19
  chapter. How were these prophets like
• 8:23
  jackals? Jackals are dog like scavengers
• 8:26
  that often live among runes with no concern for debris and decay
• 8:32
  all around them. Like jackals, these false
• 8:35
  prophets were content to live in a disintegrating environment,
• 8:40
  oblivious to judgment that was falling on the nation.
• 8:44
  They were promising peace and prosperity rather than
• 8:48
  denouncing sin and warning of impending doom.
• 8:54
  Why expect prophets to repair a city wall?
• 8:58
  This language is figurative. The image of a deteriorating
• 9:02
  wall pictures Israel's vulnerability before invading
• 9:07
  armies, enemies that God raised up against the nation.
• 9:12
  So notice that that's God's permitting these nations to come
• 9:16
  against Israel. The prophets were to repair the
• 9:19
  walls by exposing Israel's sin and calling the people to
• 9:24
  repentance. Instead, the false prophets
• 9:28
  promises of peace were like a whitewash in that they covered
• 9:33
  the people's sin and confirmed their false hopes.
• 9:37
  And I think we are a lot like that today.
• 9:40
  And churches today are giving that a false sense of peace to
• 9:47
  people where people are allowed to remain in their sinful
• 9:51
  condition. But that's not helping people
• 9:54
  because that is going to bring wrath upon those people.
• 9:58
  And unfortunately, it's like today there's it just seems like
• 10:03
  there's few people that are speaking the truth and everybody
• 10:07
  wants to be accepted and everybody wants to be liked and
• 10:10
  everybody wants to have, I guess people like them.
• 10:16
  And so they just want to say what people want to hear.
• 10:19
  And we are in a world like that. I mean, maybe it's been like
• 10:22
  that forever. And but with the things going on
• 10:27
  in the world, it's not a time to be lulled into thinking that
• 10:38
  everything is just fine and that there's nothing that we have to
• 10:44
  do with our lives. Because preparedness is really,
• 10:49
  I mean, in my mind, I am thinking of the future for us.
• 10:54
  I'm thinking of when Jesus returns.
• 10:56
  And people do criticize me for thinking about that, but I
• 11:00
  really can't not think about that after a whole series of
• 11:05
  dreams that I had from the night I got baptized that it just, it
• 11:09
  did feel like it was very urgent very soon.
• 11:12
  And then I'm, I do see other people who are having similar
• 11:15
  type dreams and either everyone is under some mass psychosis
• 11:20
  that they're all thinking the same things or having dreams
• 11:22
  like this, or there's some kind of conspiracy programming that's
• 11:27
  happening to people or it's really happening.
• 11:30
  I don't know. And only until it, you know,
• 11:34
  hindsight is when you'll actually know.
• 11:37
  But it doesn't matter if we're really close or if we're not
• 11:45
  really close, because if the whole message, the underlying
• 11:50
  point is to repent of our sins and turn to God.
• 11:54
  And that's the message that in the, in the, all the way back in
• 11:58
  BC times. And then the message today is
• 12:01
  the same to repent and turn to God.
• 12:05
  But a lot of people don't want to hear that.
• 12:07
  So this, it shows how God is really against this appeasing
• 12:18
  people, these people who are saying, you know, giving just
• 12:22
  affirmations, it's not going to go well with the people who do
• 12:25
  that. So this will follow on church
• 12:28
  leadership and on other people. So what our world is telling us
• 12:33
  is really against what the Bible tells us, and we really need to
• 12:38
  open our eyes to that and get into the Word of God and learn
• 12:43
  things from God's perspective, not ours.
• 12:47
  So how? Here's another question and
• 12:50
  answer. How would the false prophets be
• 12:52
  kept from entering the land? The false prophets would have no
• 12:56
  place in the future restoration of the nation.
• 13:00
  Their names would be expunged from the registry of citizens
• 13:04
  and their descendants would be cut off from Israel through
• 13:08
  God's judgement. What is whitewash?
• 13:11
  Whitewash is a poor quality plaster that lacks the necessary
• 13:15
  strength to support a lasting building.
• 13:19
  It indicates that a building that has been poorly built and
• 13:23
  will surely fail. Then in verses 13, I guess 1010
• 13:33
  through 16, it it talks about the different things that God's
• 13:40
  going to do as a result of this. He said therefore those who
• 13:46
  tell, therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it
• 13:52
  is going to fall. Then he said what's going to
• 13:55
  happen? He said rain will come in
• 13:57
  Torrance. Think about that like I just
• 14:01
  noticed reading the Bible, how things tend to be repeated and
• 14:07
  how God tends to use the same natural forces to pronounce
• 14:12
  judgment, such as rain. Think about all the things like
• 14:17
  just in the United States in this last year, about the, you
• 14:21
  know, the the Carolinas, the just the flooding.
• 14:25
  I've seen flooding scenes from Las Vegas.
• 14:28
  I It just seems like there has been flooding every in so many
• 14:34
  different places in the last few years and I don't know whether
• 14:38
  it's just being shown more available to us or if it's
• 14:42
  actually increasing in all these places.
• 14:44
  Now God said he was never going to flood the entire earth like
• 14:48
  was done in the days of Noah, but rain does seem to seem to be
• 14:55
  one of the ways that God gets attention of people.
• 15:00
  And then it says this is verse 11 says, and I will send
• 15:04
  hailstones, her hurdling down and violent winds.
• 15:10
  So think about this rain, hail. I mean, if you've been paying
• 15:15
  attention to the last several years, there have been these
• 15:18
  massive sized hailstones that have been, when I say massive, I
• 15:23
  mean just maybe like softball size or golf ball size, just
• 15:27
  bigger than the tiny little pebbles that were used to be
• 15:31
  normal or seemed like they were normal.
• 15:33
  And now they're they're just a lot larger and they've been very
• 15:36
  damaging. In fact, insurance rates are
• 15:38
  going up on properties because of all the damage that so many
• 15:42
  people have had roofs replaced because of the next thing that
• 15:46
  he's talking about like violent winds, so rain, hailstones,
• 15:52
  violent winds. We're seeing all of that today.
• 15:56
  Is God trying to get our attention?
• 15:58
  Is he warning us before the big part comes?
• 16:03
  I just, I feel like he really is it just, and again, it just be
• 16:07
  could be cut. It could be because I'm reading
• 16:12
  the Bible and I'm seeing this stuff and then I'm seeing it in
• 16:15
  the world. And if I hadn't read the Bible,
• 16:17
  I wouldn't know. So it it's just something that I
• 16:22
  think all of us need to pay attention to because he says in
• 16:26
  my wrath I will unleash violent wind and in my anger, hailstones
• 16:31
  and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury.
• 16:35
  This isn't talking about just normal rain.
• 16:38
  It's talking about destructive fury.
• 16:41
  So I just think that we need to pay attention to these things.
• 16:46
  And I think that if history repeats itself like it has with
• 16:52
  God and humans, then I think we are certainly in a time where
• 16:58
  God is trying to get our attention and get us to
• 17:01
  repentance. He's warning us now.
• 17:04
  It's just going to be just like the people in Jerusalem back in
• 17:08
  Ezekiel's day, where they didn't want to hear it.
• 17:11
  They just wanted to talk about peace and safety, peace and
• 17:15
  security. And we're kind of like that
• 17:17
  right now today. That's what people do want to
• 17:20
  talk about. People are tired of this.
• 17:23
  All of the fighting that's been going on in the Middle East and
• 17:26
  in Russia and, and it's just we're in a very strange spot
• 17:31
  and, and from elections and it's, it's just a lot of chaos,
• 17:36
  a lot of turmoil. That's not God.
• 17:38
  God is orderly chaos is the evil 1.
• 17:42
  So it's it's just a very strange time in the world.
• 17:48
  And I think we need to really pay attention to the things that
• 17:51
  God talks about. He does say the hailstones, the
• 17:57
  violent winds and the rain. So actually in the the day of
• 18:03
  the Lord, because this is also interesting too.
• 18:06
  I don't know if you paid attention to that, but it said
• 18:09
  about white, I guess about it did talk about the day of the
• 18:15
  Lord in one of these. I can't remember where it was.
• 18:23
  Oh, I know. OK, so it was verse 5.
• 18:25
  You have not gone up to the breeches in the wall to repair
• 18:28
  it for the people of Israel so that that it will stand firm in
• 18:34
  the battle on the day of the Lord.
• 18:38
  So could this be a double fulfilled prophecy?
• 18:44
  Not fulfilled yet, but you know, one that happened in their
• 18:48
  future and then yet another one to come just because this, you
• 18:53
  know, peace, peace. I mean, this is something that
• 18:56
  is stated about the end times and this was also about the
• 18:59
  times of what Jerusalem was going to experience in Ezekiel's
• 19:05
  time. And then just the way that God
• 19:08
  is providing his wrath against people who are unrepentant and
• 19:15
  he uses wind, hailstone and rain.
• 19:18
  So this is kind of interesting. In Chapter 7 from the Book of
• 19:23
  Revelation, it says after this I saw 4 angels standing at the
• 19:31
  four corners of the earth holding back the four winds of
• 19:36
  the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on
• 19:42
  the sea or any tree. And they're holding it back
• 19:48
  because there's going to be, they're going to let it loose
• 19:52
  and it's going to cause destruction.
• 19:55
  And so here is an example in the end times where God is using
• 19:59
  wind and John is seeing this. He sees 4 angels holding it
• 20:04
  back. They hold it back until another
• 20:07
  Angel. I'll read the next verse.
• 20:10
  Then I saw another Angel coming up from the east having the seal
• 20:14
  of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to
• 20:18
  the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and
• 20:23
  the sea. So God's probably going to be
• 20:26
  using destructive forces on all of this.
• 20:31
  That's what it says, and it says do not harm the land or the sea
• 20:34
  or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants
• 20:39
  of our God. Then I heard the number of those
• 20:43
  who were sealed, 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.
• 20:50
  And then it lists each tribe and 12 it lists the tribes and then
• 20:56
  not every single one of them, and it's 12,000 from each one.
• 21:00
  That's not mentioned is the tribe of Dan.
• 21:04
  So that is interesting. And then in Revelation chapter
• 21:12
  8, in verse 7, it says this is when the trumpets start
• 21:17
  sounding. And the first one, the first
• 21:20
  trumpet, the first Angel sounded his trumpet and there came hail
• 21:27
  and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth.
• 21:33
  1/3 of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned
• 21:39
  up and all the green grass was burned up.
• 21:43
  There's also in, I think it's when the bulls and I didn't look
• 21:47
  that up, but there will be, I think it's like 100 or 120 lbs.
• 21:53
  The hail that's going to come down in the very, very end when
• 21:58
  the sensors, the bulls of wrath when that happens.
• 22:04
  So that's again showing that God is using them.
• 22:07
  It's either like 100 or 120 lbs, which is unreal.
• 22:12
  I mean, as we talk about things keep getting bigger, well, I
• 22:14
  can't even imagine. That's like a human size coming
• 22:18
  down out of the sky that's going to be hitting the earth in the
• 22:23
  final bowls of wrath in Revelation chapter 8.
• 22:28
  That same chapter in verses 10 through 11, Again, this is like
• 22:32
  the water is a part of his judgment.
• 22:35
  So the third Angel sounded his trumpet in a great star blazing
• 22:40
  like a torch fell from the sky on 1/3 of the rivers and on the
• 22:46
  springs. The name of the star is
• 22:49
  Wormwood. 1/3 of the waters turned bitter and many people
• 22:54
  died from the waters that had become bitter.
• 22:58
  Again, this is probably, you know, a lot of symbolism in
• 23:04
  here. There's probably a combination
• 23:06
  of symbolism and and reality too.
• 23:09
  But we don't really know exactly what this means because like
• 23:13
  stars are symbolic of angels in the Book of Revelation and
• 23:21
  because it says the third Angel sounded his trumpet and a great
• 23:25
  star. So does that mean another Angel
• 23:29
  or does it mean something else? And it's blazing like a torch.
• 23:34
  So maybe there's just like a fiery, like maybe it's like a
• 23:36
  meteor. Maybe that is, I don't know.
• 23:40
  That's how this prophecy, people can speculate and there can be a
• 23:45
  lot of different ideas about it, what what it might be, but we're
• 23:49
  only going to know in hindsight. And it's probably not so
• 23:53
  important whether it's a an Angel or a meteorite that's fire
• 24:02
  that has fire, if it's coming down to the earth and it's going
• 24:05
  to do this damage to the rivers and the springs of water.
• 24:07
  I mean, that's the that's the important part to see there not,
• 24:12
  but there is just going to be this wrath of God that hits.
• 24:18
  And in order to not experience the wrath of God, people need to
• 24:24
  be right with God. They need to repent.
• 24:26
  God's been saying repent ever since the BC time, since the
• 24:31
  beginning when sin entered the world and people do ignore him.
• 24:36
  I mean, that's like the way history is.
• 24:38
  They don't change their lives and it's, and, and they just,
• 24:43
  there's just, it seems like people are so confused today
• 24:49
  because they don't read the Bible and maybe they go to
• 24:52
  church and they get confused by what they hear at church because
• 24:56
  a lot of churches don't want to say anything that offends
• 24:58
  people. So they tiptoe around anything
• 25:02
  that might make somebody upset and they don't say it.
• 25:06
  So then people don't hear it. So then they think, well, my
• 25:09
  church doesn't talk about it and I trust my pastor and so he's
• 25:14
  preparing me. Well, what is your pastor
• 25:16
  preparing you for? If your pastor is not talking
• 25:19
  about repentance and talking about getting sin out of your
• 25:24
  life because sin separates you from God, what is that pastor
• 25:29
  actually doing for you? Because that is the important
• 25:32
  thing to get close to God. And we can't get close to God if
• 25:37
  we are sinful. God says be holy because I am
• 25:40
  holy. God sent his Son to do the hard
• 25:45
  part because we could never be in God's presence with the sin
• 25:50
  that we have. But Jesus atoned for that.
• 25:55
  But that didn't. That wasn't the end of it.
• 25:58
  Even Jesus himself said that. He said in order to enter the
• 26:02
  Kingdom of God, you must be born again, born of the water and
• 26:06
  born of the Spirit. So the Holy Spirit residing in
• 26:10
  US makes a difference. It makes us change.
• 26:14
  It makes us turn away from sin. It it gets us.
• 26:17
  It make through our own acceptance of the Holy Spirit,
• 26:22
  it begins to work in our lives so that we draw closer to God,
• 26:30
  so that we are in friendship with God and not an enemy of God
• 26:36
  and that what God says is good is what we desire.
• 26:41
  The only way that thing that happens is from the Holy Spirit
• 26:45
  entering our lives. And Jesus said we can't even get
• 26:48
  into the Kingdom of God unless we have the Holy Spirit.
• 26:52
  And then he talks about the 10 virgins and five that were
• 26:56
  prepared and five that were unprepared.
• 26:58
  And the symbology there is oil. Oil has always been anointing,
• 27:04
  and the Holy Spirit is an anointing.
• 27:08
  So if someone doesn't have the Holy Spirit, they're not ready,
• 27:12
  they're not prepared. And Jesus was constantly talking
• 27:16
  about being prepared. But I don't know that we're
• 27:20
  hearing that in so many different churches, and it's
• 27:23
  very concerning to me. And just like these false
• 27:28
  prophets in Ezekiel's day, those people in those churches are
• 27:33
  going to experience the wrath of God if they don't start
• 27:38
  preparing his people. And some do and some don't.
• 27:43
  And it's not like beating somebody over the head with it
• 27:46
  because it's a, it's a, it's actually a peaceful thing when
• 27:50
  the Holy Spirit comes into your life.
• 27:52
  And it's a gradual change. Some people have these instant
• 27:55
  changes and other people it takes a while, but anything from
• 28:00
  God is good. So I think I'm going down a
• 28:03
  tangent on there and I didn't mean to do that, but it just
• 28:06
  came to mind. So a few more questions and
• 28:10
  answers and then I'll wrap this up.
• 28:12
  How common were women prophets? The Old Testament refers to
• 28:16
  several women prophets including Miriam in Exodus chapter 15,
• 28:21
  Deborah from Judges chapter 4, Holda from Second Kings chapter
• 28:26
  22, and Noadiah from I guess Nehemiah verse or chapter 6.
• 28:35
  The women prophets denounced by Ezekiel were not true
• 28:40
  spokespersons for God, but diviners who employed witchcraft
• 28:46
  and other Pagan methods for personal prophet.
• 28:51
  What were these magic charms and veils women evidently prophesied
• 28:56
  in ancient Israel? Some were legitimate, but others
• 29:01
  were false prophets who were eager, eager to take advantage
• 29:05
  of a person's wish to know the future.
• 29:08
  The women women prophets mentioned here sowed charms,
• 29:12
  small amulets or idols on their wrist which made noise as they
• 29:18
  moved. The charms were dedicated with
• 29:21
  incantations, curses and spells. The meaning of the word
• 29:26
  translated veil veils is unclear, but it may refer to
• 29:32
  head coverings or shrouds that were viewed as a source of
• 29:37
  supernatural power. So they were dealing with God's
• 29:42
  enemy. They were getting information
• 29:44
  somehow. I don't know that the enemy
• 29:47
  knows the future, but I guess the enemy can interact with
• 29:52
  people to make the future happen.
• 29:54
  Whatever the enemy tells somebody is going to happen.
• 29:57
  The enemy has some power, some influence over people.
• 30:02
  We can certainly see that today or we wouldn't have this chaotic
• 30:06
  world that we live in. But anyway, that's the end of
• 30:09
  chapter 13. And I think it's just a time for
• 30:14
  all of us to wake up, stay in the word of God, see what God
