Latest / Cardinal Territory: A St. Louis Cardinals Podcast / Masyn Winn returns: How will Cardinals balance their middle infield logjam?
Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome back to Cardinal territory, Katie and Bernie. Coming at you,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Bernie from Saint Louis. I'm here in a random radio
- 0:11Speaker 1: booth at Truest Park. We are recording this about an
- 0:14Speaker 1: hour and a half before the first pitch between the
- 0:17Speaker 1: Cardinals and the Braves on Tuesday, April twenty second. Happy
- 0:20Speaker 1: Earth Day recycled today matters. We only have one planet,
- 0:23Speaker 1: Let's save it. If you are watching this before Tuesday's game,
- 0:28Speaker 1: then you'll know that the Cardinals have lost five straight.
- 0:30Speaker 1: They are one and ten on the road, and it
- 0:31Speaker 1: just hasn't looked all that good lately. Maybe by the
- 0:33Speaker 1: time you're watching this, they'll have one on Tuesday.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Maybe not. We don't know.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We can't predict the future, but we can tell you
- 0:39Speaker 1: what we know pre game. Mason went is back off
- 0:43Speaker 1: the injured list. Today was the first day he was
- 0:45Speaker 1: eligible to return, and he is here in the lineup,
- 0:47Speaker 1: batting ninth at shortstop. Michael Ciani optioned to triple a
- 0:51Speaker 1: today as the corresponding move, A little surprising given how
- 0:55Speaker 1: much the Cardinals have an adamant that he should be
- 0:57Speaker 1: on the roster. Bernie, let me tell you this. Ting
- 1:00Speaker 1: with members on the team and the staff. This was
- 1:02Speaker 1: a decision that was not made lightly. They made it
- 1:04Speaker 1: when they got to the park today around this afternoon,
- 1:07Speaker 1: and there were a bunch of people in the mix
- 1:08Speaker 1: on who this could be. Was it going to be
- 1:10Speaker 1: Thomas to jac could they do a wild card and
- 1:12Speaker 1: send Burlison down. They ultimately decided Siani, partly because they
- 1:17Speaker 1: need depth reasons. Right, Mason's coming back from a back thing,
- 1:21Speaker 1: so you don't you know, you want to be cautious,
- 1:22Speaker 1: you want to protect yourself. Brendan Donovan, he's unavailable today.
- 1:25Speaker 1: He was a scratch from the lineup, has some ribs soreness.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Could be out maybe tomorrow. Definitely not something that's going
- 1:30Speaker 1: to require the IL, but they need s JC up
- 1:32Speaker 1: here just to cover their backs for death purposes. So
- 1:35Speaker 1: Sianni went to Memphis. What are your thoughts about this decision?
- 1:39Speaker 1: It was a little surprising.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Well, I'm with you, I'm a surprise a little bit.
- 1:42Speaker 4: I mean, I just assumed they would take the path
- 1:45Speaker 4: of least resistance. And you know, we all know that
- 1:48Speaker 4: the Ali Marvels really big on defense, which which I appreciate.
- 1:52Speaker 4: They don't have a strikeout staff starters or bullpen, so
- 1:56Speaker 4: you need guys to make plays. I get it, But
- 1:58Speaker 4: I do think that maybe a time they perhaps sacrifice
- 2:02Speaker 4: a chance to have better offense by keeping a defensive specialist.
- 2:06Speaker 4: So I'm pleasantly surprised that they're they're gonna, at least
- 2:09Speaker 4: for a little while, stay with said Jac. Look, this
- 2:12Speaker 4: offense is still still trying to get back to what
- 2:16Speaker 4: it was early in the season, and there's been there's
- 2:19Speaker 4: been a lot of bad games, were bad at bats,
- 2:22Speaker 4: and they're losing. They're sort of losing their control of
- 2:25Speaker 4: the strike zone, which they had a lot earlier in
- 2:27Speaker 4: the season. And I think said Jac's a live bat,
- 2:30Speaker 4: and I think you just ride that live bat until
- 2:34Speaker 4: it's not so live anymore, and then maybe he needs
- 2:37Speaker 4: to go to Memphis and kind of regroup.
- 2:39Speaker 3: So we'll see. It's pretty cool.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I really like this for su Jac because, as
- 2:43Speaker 1: you mentioned, he's hit well at a time where most
- 2:45Speaker 1: of the team has not, and he's hit well against
- 2:47Speaker 1: some really lethal arms, and I thought he did a
- 2:50Speaker 1: fine job backing up shortstop. I know we talked at
- 2:52Speaker 1: length about the Cardinals not having a backup shortstop. I
- 2:55Speaker 1: think both Donovan and s JC did a serviceable job.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I was glad to see them keep him because he
- 3:01Speaker 1: can hit and he can play. He's a little raw, right,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I mean, he's twenty two, twenty three years old and
- 3:06Speaker 1: not a ton of experience in the major leagues. The
- 3:07Speaker 1: game can sometimes speed up on him and be a
- 3:09Speaker 1: little fast. We've seen some base running miscues. But what
- 3:12Speaker 1: I like about s JC or Saggy if you will,
- 3:15Speaker 1: that's his name, right, and hated it at first, Now
- 3:18Speaker 1: I love it. So we're only referring to JC as
- 3:21Speaker 1: Saggy on here going forward on Cardinal territory.
- 3:24Speaker 3: But a good one. It's a good one.
- 3:26Speaker 2: It's a baseball name for sure.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:27Speaker 1: With SAGGI, he is so open to learning and I
- 3:30Speaker 1: talked to him a lot in New York, specifically Saturday
- 3:33Speaker 1: after he had a game where he was thrown out
- 3:34Speaker 1: of the plate, not the sharpest base running game, and
- 3:37Speaker 1: he is just taking it as much information as possible.
- 3:40Speaker 1: He spent all of Monday's game, and I think Olie
- 3:42Speaker 1: Marmel talks about this on your show, So I note
- 3:45Speaker 1: every Tuesday Bernie and the Gang came ox to a
- 3:48Speaker 1: show with Alie Marmle from twelve to twelve thirty.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It's really worth your time.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And so Jac is right next to Stevie Clapp the
- 3:54Speaker 1: entire game, asking questions about different scenarios.
- 3:57Speaker 2: What should I do here?
- 3:58Speaker 1: You know what if this is, you know what's different
- 4:00Speaker 1: about this scenario compared to the other. How can I
- 4:02Speaker 1: get better? So I really like that they're going to
- 4:04Speaker 1: keep to jac and give him a chance to play
- 4:07Speaker 1: somewhat every day at the big league level. But on
- 4:09Speaker 1: days where he's not playing every day, he still has
- 4:11Speaker 1: the opportunity to learn and grow and develop.
- 4:13Speaker 2: And isn't that the whole point of the season.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it is. And I you know, my friend and
- 4:17Speaker 3: Coylleague get Camo.
- 4:17Speaker 4: It's Kevin Wheeler, who I really really love and respect.
- 4:22Speaker 3: We've had a little bit of a disagreement.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Not a heated Disagreement's just a baseball disagreement because he's
- 4:28Speaker 4: in the camp that to Jay's got to play every day.
- 4:31Speaker 4: And my whole thing is like, look, I you know,
- 4:34Speaker 4: I don't know whatever happened to this is you know
- 4:37Speaker 4: this idea that if you have a young player that
- 4:39Speaker 4: brings something to the table and his energy is terrific
- 4:42Speaker 4: and he's hungry, he wants to learn.
- 4:44Speaker 3: He's a dirt player.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I mean, he'll do anything to win a game. And
- 4:47Speaker 4: he's got a pretty good right handed bat, and so
- 4:51Speaker 4: there's not a way to get him to like to
- 4:53Speaker 4: basically get him in the lineup or in a meaningful.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Role like three times a week. Like I think baseball
- 4:58Speaker 3: in general is going too far with this.
- 5:00Speaker 4: And you know me, I don't live in the past,
- 5:02Speaker 4: trust me, but this whole idea that you know, if
- 5:05Speaker 4: you have a young prospect, he's either got to play
- 5:07Speaker 4: every day in the major leagues. It's no, he's got
- 5:09Speaker 4: to go to the minors. Isn't there a middle ground?
- 5:12Speaker 4: A guy like said jac he's going to be in
- 5:14Speaker 4: the big leagues as you That was a great story,
- 5:16Speaker 4: like him stubby clap and soak up everything he can,
- 5:21Speaker 4: watching veterans and also being of use to the team.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Why does he have to play five days a week?
- 5:27Speaker 3: Can't he have value playing three days a week? I
- 5:30Speaker 3: don't know.
- 5:30Speaker 4: I so Wheeler and I were hashing that out on
- 5:33Speaker 4: live radio.
- 5:34Speaker 3: But it was good.
- 5:34Speaker 4: I mean, it's I understand the whole need about uh,
- 5:37Speaker 4: you know, play it every day, but sometimes you just
- 5:40Speaker 4: go too far.
- 5:40Speaker 1: With that, what do you think I think, given what
- 5:43Speaker 1: the Cardinals are trying to do right now, there is
- 5:45Speaker 1: no way they can guarantee playing time every single day
- 5:48Speaker 1: to every single player on this roster, right And we'll
- 5:50Speaker 1: get to that later in the show, because I think
- 5:51Speaker 1: it's going to be really fascinating how Ollie marmal balances playing.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Time going forward with the slew of middle infielders.
- 5:56Speaker 1: But first, a Jac if he's gonna come up and
- 5:58Speaker 1: he's gonna play semi rig He's not gonna start every
- 6:01Speaker 1: single day, not on the lineup today, of course, but
- 6:03Speaker 1: he's gonna have a chance to play, and like I said,
- 6:05Speaker 1: he's also gonna have a chance to learn. I thought
- 6:08Speaker 1: this story was really cool talking to him and Brendan
- 6:10Speaker 1: Donovan after the four game sweep in New York, which
- 6:13Speaker 1: is not great, but asking to Jac, you know what,
- 6:18Speaker 1: how are you getting better? How are you evaluating yourself?
- 6:20Speaker 1: And he says, after every game Brendan Donovan will go
- 6:23Speaker 1: into the video room with Stubby Klapp Chad Blair Cardinals
- 6:26Speaker 1: video guy, and watch over almost every player at bat
- 6:30Speaker 1: that he was in and dissect it with those two.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And Saggie was like that sounds really cool.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I would like to do that too, So now he
- 6:37Speaker 1: tags along and both of them do the same and
- 6:40Speaker 1: that kind of stuff.
- 6:41Speaker 2: You can't get that in the minor leagues.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I'm not saying it's not accessible, but the level of
- 6:44Speaker 1: play and the level of talent is so different from
- 6:46Speaker 1: Triple A to the major leagues, and the technology is
- 6:48Speaker 1: so much better. So you have a coaching staff and
- 6:51Speaker 1: a video staff that is willing to do that, and
- 6:52Speaker 1: you have a player like Donovan willing to set the tone.
- 6:55Speaker 1: That's the kind of growth that to jac is gonna
- 6:57Speaker 1: get off the field, and it's just as important Bernie.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Uh, you know, Uh, I'm learning stuff from you today
- 7:04Speaker 4: and I appreciate that be.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Working on the road. Have you've been watching my Instagram story?
- 7:08Speaker 4: Yeah for sure, But I've got to go look at that.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Okay, I have I missed that. I must be honest,
- 7:13Speaker 3: I miss that.
- 7:14Speaker 4: I'll go look, but no, see, you you make such
- 7:17Speaker 4: a great point, Like you know, since Tony LaRussa retired,
- 7:25Speaker 4: this is from what I can tell, and you know
- 7:27Speaker 4: more than I do, obviously, I think this is the
- 7:30Speaker 4: most proactive teaching forward. Uh, you know, get in there
- 7:36Speaker 4: and Okay, who needs help?
- 7:37Speaker 3: What can I do?
- 7:39Speaker 4: And you know, you know where they they really service
- 7:42Speaker 4: the development of the players, even in.
- 7:44Speaker 3: The major leagues. So so where is it.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Where's a Thomas A jac Or We could name some
- 7:49Speaker 4: other guys if they ever get up here this year?
- 7:51Speaker 4: Who knows where he can't get that experience at Triple
- 7:55Speaker 4: A Memphis. And it's no, it's no disrespect to the
- 7:58Speaker 4: people down there, but this is like, this is like
- 8:01Speaker 4: getting a masterclass in baseball education. I mean, John Jay
- 8:05Speaker 4: Daniel descalso Stubby Clap Are you kidding me? I mean
- 8:09Speaker 4: these and these guys love to teach, they love to
- 8:11Speaker 4: work with players. I mean, that's to me, it's a
- 8:15Speaker 4: unique opportunity. So that makes me feel even more convinced that.
- 8:20Speaker 3: They made the right decision to keep him up here.
- 8:22Speaker 2: And that's what he talked about coming into the season.
- 8:24Speaker 1: You have a staff that is so they they've come
- 8:28Speaker 1: up in player development. You just named three guys, but
- 8:31Speaker 1: Ali Marmo up there as well. There were times that
- 8:32Speaker 1: John Mozilla thought that he wouldn't be a manager, but
- 8:34Speaker 1: he'd be a farm director. So I understand there's a
- 8:37Speaker 1: lot of frustration with the coaching staff right now. They're
- 8:40Speaker 1: unfortunately the ones that are gonna wear it, especially the
- 8:41Speaker 1: manager when the team is not winning. But for what
- 8:44Speaker 1: the staff is doing, for these teaching moments that are
- 8:47Speaker 1: that have been said and advertised as the primary emphasis
- 8:51Speaker 1: of how the season is going to go. I think
- 8:53Speaker 1: this is the right staff in place, and I think
- 8:54Speaker 1: they're doing a good job in the development side. Obviously,
- 8:57Speaker 1: though some wins need to come across this the board,
- 9:00Speaker 1: especially on the road. It's getting a little crazy, but
- 9:03Speaker 1: we'll get into that first.
- 9:04Speaker 4: And Brett real quick, Brent, Brent Brown's a teacher too,
- 9:08Speaker 4: just because just because the offense had a downturn. You know,
- 9:11Speaker 4: everybody sat a Saint Louis sport is like always blamed
- 9:15Speaker 4: the batting coach first, right, that's.
- 9:16Speaker 2: A sport always won the coaches, bating coach, hitting coach.
- 9:19Speaker 4: And just really quick, like when when Ali Marmon was
- 9:23Speaker 4: on with us today, came o X and I asked him, so, well,
- 9:25Speaker 4: what was you know what was behind this downturn offensively?
- 9:28Speaker 4: Like your guys they were there at bats were so
- 9:30Speaker 4: great early in the season. They were so disciplined, they
- 9:33Speaker 4: were controlling the strike zone, they were working counts, and
- 9:36Speaker 4: then all of a sudden, you know, and he I
- 9:38Speaker 4: give Ali credit first candor, he said, uh, you know,
- 9:42Speaker 4: we the thing we want them to do is is
- 9:44Speaker 4: just to get on fastballs, you know, and be be selective.
- 9:49Speaker 4: There's a fastball in the zone, get after it. And
- 9:52Speaker 4: he said they stopped doing that. They sort of fell
- 9:55Speaker 4: back into their bad habits. And Brent Brown's going to
- 9:59Speaker 4: get that stuff.
- 10:00Speaker 3: You know.
- 10:00Speaker 4: I do wonder sometime, just as a fan, I am
- 10:03Speaker 4: frustrated watching Alec Burlison.
- 10:06Speaker 3: The boy.
- 10:07Speaker 4: When I say boy, it's a term of affection. I'm
- 10:09Speaker 4: not demeaning him. The boy just can't help himself. I mean,
- 10:12Speaker 4: he he just keeps helping pictures out by. It's it's
- 10:19Speaker 4: bad enough that he swings its stuff off the plate.
- 10:22Speaker 3: It's even worse that he connects with it.
- 10:24Speaker 1: You know that we saw come out through the system,
- 10:27Speaker 1: or that we saw last year. He has such great
- 10:29Speaker 1: plate discipline, such good control of his zone.
- 10:31Speaker 4: So you're exactly right, you know, when he when he
- 10:33Speaker 4: connects with it. One stat boy thing here and then
- 10:36Speaker 4: we'll move on.
- 10:36Speaker 3: I know your time's alimited. Okay.
- 10:40Speaker 4: I was looking this up earlier today because I was
- 10:42Speaker 4: curious and I sort of keep a running. I keep
- 10:44Speaker 4: track of Burlasson's let me call it strike zone management. Okay, so,
- 10:50Speaker 4: first of all, he's had twenty two called strikes this
- 10:53Speaker 4: year on pitches right down the middle, meatballs right to me,
- 10:57Speaker 4: that seems like a lot.
- 10:58Speaker 3: When they're telling him, look, man, attack strikes. He's taking
- 11:01Speaker 3: twenty two down the The other thing.
- 11:03Speaker 4: The other thing is when he connects with the strike
- 11:07Speaker 4: and puts it in play.
- 11:08Speaker 3: His hard hit rates like forty five percent.
- 11:11Speaker 4: When he swings at a pitch out of the zone
- 11:13Speaker 4: and puts the ball in play, his hard hit hard
- 11:16Speaker 4: hit rate.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Is seven and a half percent. I mean, what do
- 11:21Speaker 3: you understand? Why?
- 11:22Speaker 2: See from you, I'm gonna look into that one.
- 11:25Speaker 3: It's true.
- 11:25Speaker 4: And see that's one of my flaws as a human being.
- 11:29Speaker 4: When I get these numbers in my mind, they drive
- 11:31Speaker 4: me crazy.
- 11:32Speaker 3: You know.
- 11:32Speaker 4: It's like like it's like I watch every Alec Burlison
- 11:35Speaker 4: the bat and I'm like, what are you doing?
- 11:36Speaker 3: You know, I'm being a little dramatic, but you get
- 11:39Speaker 3: my point.
- 11:39Speaker 4: I know, I love to look at this stuff and
- 11:41Speaker 4: learn things, and I can't understand him.
- 11:44Speaker 3: I like him.
- 11:45Speaker 4: In fact, Will Leach used to tease me all the time.
- 11:47Speaker 4: He said, you're the only guy thinks Burlison's going to
- 11:49Speaker 4: be a great hitter. I don't see it. And then
- 11:52Speaker 4: you know, when he was going great last year, will
- 11:54Speaker 4: Leach was like, you know, I think you're right about him. No,
- 11:57Speaker 4: unfortunately I wasn't. So he's sort of backing some of
- 12:00Speaker 4: those bad habits. But I'm rooting for them. I'm rooting us.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Big guys must stick together, right.
- 12:05Speaker 2: You know, it's a good point about our listening.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I'm glad you brought him up because he's going to
- 12:08Speaker 1: factor into our next segment. So honestly, great segue. But
- 12:12Speaker 1: to get to that segue, we need to hear from
- 12:14Speaker 1: our pals. It's spontango.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Let's get it, ft fam.

- 13:30Speaker 3: While from now, you know, will you think less of me?
- 13:33Speaker 3: I tell you that that kibble kind of look good
- 13:35Speaker 3: to be.
- 13:36Speaker 1: You know, I'm not gonna think less of you, but
- 13:38Speaker 1: we should probably work on that.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Okay, sounds good. You're probably right, You're probably right.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I'm not right about often. I also haven't eaten yet today.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I'm just scrambling. What an insane road trip.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Ever, We've only been on two, but each road trip
- 13:51Speaker 1: has felt like eighty four years.
- 13:53Speaker 2: They've been long trips.
- 13:55Speaker 4: It's because the team's collapsing around you, and there's drama everywhere.
- 13:59Speaker 3: You know, you know, so you know.
- 14:03Speaker 2: We're sports writers, Bernie.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I'm used to things happening quickly and you'd adjust and
- 14:07Speaker 1: you don't get frazzled.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Monday's game escalated very quickly.
- 14:12Speaker 1: That was the first time in a long time where
- 14:14Speaker 1: I was like, everyone, just I need a second, everyone
- 14:16Speaker 1: take a break. And of course that that did not happen,
- 14:19Speaker 1: very very crazy.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Can I ask you this real quick?
- 14:21Speaker 4: And again, I'm really bad because you want to get
- 14:24Speaker 4: on with things, and I always interduct some others like what.
- 14:28Speaker 3: It's obviously been a brutal time for the Cardinals.
- 14:30Speaker 4: They've only won six of their last twenty games since
- 14:32Speaker 4: the Twins left Pusch Stadium.
- 14:34Speaker 3: But how like, you know, guys will put on a
- 14:37Speaker 3: good front.
- 14:37Speaker 4: I mean, I've been in clubhouses, oh my gosh, so
- 14:39Speaker 4: many years, not not recently, but you know, are.
- 14:43Speaker 3: They are their heads.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Okay, I mean, are they still feeling the enthusiasm, Did
- 14:49Speaker 4: they have the energy and just kind of like this
- 14:51Speaker 4: hunger and let's go get it type attitude that we
- 14:53Speaker 4: saw from them earlier the year or has some of
- 14:55Speaker 4: that been tamped down by just being a little bit demoralized.
- 15:00Speaker 1: It's definitely not as bad as it was in twenty
- 15:02Speaker 1: twenty three. Around this time in twenty twenty three, all
- 15:04Speaker 1: of us were, you know, we were three weeks into
- 15:06Speaker 1: the season and thinking, okay, it's a little early, but
- 15:10Speaker 1: we knew, we knew something was terribly wrong. Of course,
- 15:13Speaker 1: the guys are disappointed, they're frustrated, they're quite frankly, they're pissed,
- 15:16Speaker 1: but they're still playing good baseball for what this roster
- 15:19Speaker 1: allows for. And I think the fight that we see,
- 15:22Speaker 1: and I know people are like, oh here comes like
- 15:24Speaker 1: the happiest fee body doesn't win ball games. You're right,
- 15:27Speaker 1: But the fact that this team has enough resolve to
- 15:29Speaker 1: fight back after a team drops a five spot on
- 15:31Speaker 1: them in the eighth and make it a one run
- 15:33Speaker 1: game with a tine run on first, your best hitter
- 15:35Speaker 1: at the plate. They've had multiple games where they keep
- 15:37Speaker 1: trying to come back. That's different to me. So, yeah,
- 15:40Speaker 1: guys are frustrated. No one likes to lose. No one
- 15:41Speaker 1: likes to lose five straight. They haven't won a game
- 15:43Speaker 1: on this road trip yet.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Sucks. But when you go in the clubhouse.
- 15:47Speaker 1: There, it's not nearly as panicky or as frustrating as
- 15:51Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. So I'm not going to say that
- 15:55Speaker 1: you know, everyone's happy yay, because they're not. They're not winning,
- 15:58Speaker 1: But there's like a a calumn this year. We're like, Okay,
- 16:01Speaker 1: we're gonna turn it around. We have the place, Mason's
- 16:04Speaker 1: back Careerras hopefully back relatively soon.
- 16:07Speaker 2: It's not as bad, could be better. Some wins would
- 16:10Speaker 2: definitely help.
- 16:11Speaker 4: No, I buy what you're saying totally, and that's not
- 16:13Speaker 4: really happy talk, because athletes who are highly competitive and
- 16:19Speaker 4: they can find that next gear and being competitive and
- 16:22Speaker 4: even when they're a little rattled by either the way
- 16:25Speaker 4: they're playing or the team playing, if they just dig
- 16:27Speaker 4: in and fight harder. It's a cliche and it's all
- 16:30Speaker 4: that stuff, but there's something to that. You were around
- 16:33Speaker 4: that twenty twenty three team. I've been around some teams
- 16:37Speaker 4: where you could just tell nobody not too many people
- 16:40Speaker 4: really gave a damn. I mean, yeah, they played, they
- 16:43Speaker 4: showed up for work, they were happy when they hit a.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Home run or whatever.
- 16:48Speaker 4: But it's some of those teams Mike Mntidi had late
- 16:52Speaker 4: in his tenure here. Well you got fire Break before
- 16:55Speaker 4: the All Star break in twenty eighteen. I mean that
- 16:58Speaker 4: team just kind of mental. He had packed it in.
- 17:00Speaker 4: They just it was just bad juju all over that place.
- 17:05Speaker 4: I mean bad karma. Everything you had played, you know,
- 17:08Speaker 4: you had play. Certain players wouldn't even talk to Metheni
- 17:10Speaker 4: or vice versa. So yeah, a team that sticks together
- 17:14Speaker 4: and you know, part of the new Rockney stuff. But fight,
- 17:16Speaker 4: fight fight, it actually does matter.
- 17:19Speaker 3: It does so anyway, and.
- 17:21Speaker 2: They're not They're not there yet.
- 17:22Speaker 1: There there's doing a nice job of weathering in this
- 17:24Speaker 1: very frustrating portion of their early season. Another thing that
- 17:27Speaker 1: will need to be weathered is, let's get to the
- 17:29Speaker 1: banner that I finally quite one up there. How will
- 17:32Speaker 1: Allly marmal balance his playing time with his slew of
- 17:35Speaker 1: middle infielders we'll just name him Mason. When Brendan Donovan, Saggy,
- 17:40Speaker 1: Alec Grolison, Nolan Gorman, can you get all five in
- 17:43Speaker 1: the lineup regularly. Here's what he told us today, pregame
- 17:46Speaker 1: going forward for at least next week.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Taking notes. I'm taking notes.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Nolan Gorman's gonna get a run at every single every
- 17:54Speaker 1: day playing time. So we're gonna see Nolan Gorman in
- 17:56Speaker 1: the lineup every single day, most likely a DH.
- 17:58Speaker 2: He'll mix it at second every now and then too.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Mason went obviously is gonna play shortstop every day, and
- 18:04Speaker 1: they'll manage his back accordingly.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Donovan's gonna be in there. We just don't really know
- 18:07Speaker 2: what position.
- 18:08Speaker 1: So we're gonna see Sid JC mix in and Burlison's
- 18:12Speaker 1: gonna be on the bench. That's how he's gonna balance
- 18:14Speaker 1: playing time for right now. The reason for this is
- 18:16Speaker 1: they want to give Nolan Gorman a true run.
- 18:18Speaker 2: He look he came up uh for the first week
- 18:21Speaker 2: of the season. He looks good.
- 18:23Speaker 1: He didn't get a lot of playing time, he was
- 18:25Speaker 1: on the bench a lot, but in the limited playing
- 18:27Speaker 1: time that he had, Nolan Gorman looked like a solid hitter.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Then he gets pulls a hamstring minor injury, but comes
- 18:32Speaker 1: back and the offensive production is sharply declined. They think
- 18:36Speaker 1: it's because it's not he's not getting enough consistent playing time.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So they're gonna make sure that he gets that. We're
- 18:40Speaker 1: gonna see a run of Nolan Gorman for the foreseeable future, Burlison,
- 18:44Speaker 1: they'll be able to allay said, They'll be able to
- 18:45Speaker 1: find a way to mix him in so he's not
- 18:47Speaker 1: solely on the bench. But for right now, the priority
- 18:50Speaker 1: is getting Mason every day and Gorman every day.
- 18:54Speaker 4: I totally, I totally approve of that. Not that anybody
- 18:57Speaker 4: gives a damn what I think, but I approve of that.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I think it's out smart at you, well.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Thank you. I appreciate that.
- 19:04Speaker 4: No, you have me on this your show, So I'm
- 19:08Speaker 4: just trying not to bring down the quality. But anyway,
- 19:12Speaker 4: now Gorman has to play every day. And and you're right,
- 19:15Speaker 4: he was looking good and he got he got derailed
- 19:17Speaker 4: by that injury. He came back, he looked terrible. But
- 19:20Speaker 4: I tell you what, what a great what a nice
- 19:22Speaker 4: game he had last night. Yeah, and he took good swings,
- 19:25Speaker 4: and so you've got to play him. I know a
- 19:27Speaker 4: lot of fans are down on him. I get it,
- 19:29Speaker 4: I believe me.
- 19:29Speaker 3: I get it.
- 19:30Speaker 4: But and this isn't a make or break season, But
- 19:34Speaker 4: it's really close to finding out more about whether he's
- 19:37Speaker 4: someone you can count on and whether there will be
- 19:40Speaker 4: He doesn't have to have outstanding plate discipline. It just
- 19:44Speaker 4: can't be out of control, you know. So he's got
- 19:47Speaker 4: so much talent, and uh, there's not a lot of
- 19:51Speaker 4: power hitters in this entire organization either. That's the other thing,
- 19:56Speaker 4: especially with all the right hand right especially with all
- 19:59Speaker 4: the right handed pitching.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Not that the cardinalscy but major league team. See.
- 20:03Speaker 4: I mean, like seventy seventy two percent of the plate
- 20:06Speaker 4: appearances are taken against right handed pitchers. So where are
- 20:10Speaker 4: you going to get the power beat? I mean, that's
- 20:12Speaker 4: still a Cardinals deficiency. He's got that potential. He does
- 20:17Speaker 4: need to cut down on the swing and missing the strikeouts.
- 20:19Speaker 4: But the only way that's going to happen is if
- 20:21Speaker 4: he's in every day and they can have these these
- 20:24Speaker 4: classroom sessions with him after games, like real hands on approach.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Right. No, I think that's.
- 20:30Speaker 4: Great, and I think Burlison kind of needs to move
- 20:33Speaker 4: to the back of the line so to speak.
- 20:34Speaker 3: You know, we talked about it a little earlier.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Donovan's got to play, So Jac's got to play, and
- 20:40Speaker 4: Jayce can use him at three different positions, so he'll
- 20:44Speaker 4: get some run.
- 20:45Speaker 3: He'll get some run.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I think they'll be able to do it. It's nothing
- 20:50Speaker 1: about this roster or this team is perfect. And the
- 20:54Speaker 1: way that the season is going to go. We're going
- 20:56Speaker 1: to have a lot of plans that stick for one
- 20:58Speaker 1: week and then they're going to change course. This is
- 21:00Speaker 1: just the nature of the season we all signed up for.
- 21:04Speaker 1: But for this particular case where the Cardinals are right
- 21:06Speaker 1: now from a record perspective, offense perspective, and development perspective,
- 21:10Speaker 1: playing Nolan Gorman every day is the right call at
- 21:12Speaker 1: something that they advertised they were going to do all winter.
- 21:15Speaker 2: They didn't necessarily do it early on. Now is the
- 21:18Speaker 2: time to do that.
- 21:20Speaker 1: A little bit more on Nolan Gorman awaits, but we
- 21:22Speaker 1: need to hear from our friends at Fanguel Sports Network. First,
- 21:29Speaker 1: me out to my team of.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Bad Duel Sports Now Work.
- 21:34Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, watch.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Basic fingers and not be us.
- 21:38Speaker 5: I'm just glad I am the local teen lave Forest Roots,
- 21:41Speaker 5: real room for the Cardinals. Bands Sports Now Work, the
- 21:48Speaker 5: Cardinals chip and brands.
- 21:50Speaker 3: The Birds are banded.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Speaking of FanDuel Sports Network, Nolan Gorman is our fandel
- 22:02Speaker 1: Sports Network player to watch starting on Tuesday. But by
- 22:05Speaker 1: the time most of you see this, it'll be Wednesday
- 22:07Speaker 1: and he'll be right in the midst of that getting
- 22:09Speaker 1: that everyday run. He's the Cardinals three hole hitter today
- 22:12Speaker 1: Tuesday because Brendan Donovan was that scratch like I mentioned,
- 22:15Speaker 1: so they just swapped places. But I thought you were
- 22:18Speaker 1: spot on, Bernie with what you said about Nolan Gorman.
- 22:20Speaker 1: We've got to get more contact out of this sky.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I mean, swing and miss is always going to be
- 22:24Speaker 1: a part of his game. And if you want a
- 22:26Speaker 1: power bat, this is not the game of the nineteen
- 22:28Speaker 1: eighties and nineteen nineties anymore. If you want to power bat,
- 22:31Speaker 1: strikeouts are going to come with it. Of your bats
- 22:34Speaker 1: being strikeouts.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Cannot come with it.
- 22:36Speaker 3: However, so we'll.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Talk to Ollie Marma before the game today and we said, hey,
- 22:39Speaker 1: what do you need to see from Nolan Gorman? And
- 22:41Speaker 1: he said he has the types of swing that allows
- 22:44Speaker 1: for doubles, homers off the bat series and when you're
- 22:46Speaker 1: at Bush Stadium, when you're watching the game on TV,
- 22:49Speaker 1: the ball just sounds different.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I know.
- 22:51Speaker 1: When Nolan Gorman has made contact because the ball sounds different.
- 22:54Speaker 1: But he has to incorporate more contact into that swing.
- 22:58Speaker 1: So that's what we're going to be looking at over
- 22:59Speaker 1: the next week or so. When he gets this run
- 23:01Speaker 1: of everyday starts. Can he got down the contact rate?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Can he'd be more selected with pitches in the zone?
- 23:06Speaker 1: I mean, because he can slug it. We know this,
- 23:08Speaker 1: he can swing it. It's just a matter of making
- 23:10Speaker 1: contact more consistently. That's what I'm looking for at least.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Yeah, my friend, the baseball analyst, Joe she and shout
- 23:17Speaker 4: out to his newsletter. I've learned a lot from baseball.
- 23:20Speaker 4: He's like drafted for his fantasy team. He's like drafted
- 23:24Speaker 4: Nolan Gorman, like, you know, almost every year.
- 23:26Speaker 3: I think he might have given up on him this year.
- 23:27Speaker 3: And the thing but is like.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Joe's always talking about, oh my gosh, what when when
- 23:32Speaker 4: he he connects with a sweet spot like his baroer rate,
- 23:35Speaker 4: his sweet spot rate, it's like outrageously.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Good, you know.
- 23:41Speaker 4: So so this backs up what you're saying about. You know,
- 23:43Speaker 4: there is a sound coming off his bat when he
- 23:46Speaker 4: makes he makes that sweet contact. There's there's really no
- 23:49Speaker 4: one on the team that has it.
- 23:50Speaker 3: To that level.
- 23:51Speaker 4: So they got they just got a ride with him,
- 23:56Speaker 4: just like John Mazilla said all the lastly, they just
- 23:59Speaker 4: have to do it. They can't have doubts. Same with
- 24:01Speaker 4: Jordan Walker. Jordan Walker hasn't looked as great at the
- 24:04Speaker 4: plate and you know he's sort of getting into some
- 24:08Speaker 4: technical stuff that got him sort of set them back
- 24:11Speaker 4: and they're but again they're correcting, you.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Know, on the fly. There's a lot of instruction going
- 24:15Speaker 3: to them. They got to let these guys go. They
- 24:17Speaker 3: just have to. You know, there's no.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Turning back, no, because exactly there's none. Because the last
- 24:24Speaker 4: thing the Saint Louis Cardinals need is them trading away
- 24:29Speaker 4: young guys because they're frustrated and then have them blossom elsewhere.
- 24:33Speaker 3: We've all seen way too much of.
- 24:35Speaker 2: That we have, and that's the whole again.
- 24:37Speaker 1: The point of the season is to get these guys
- 24:39Speaker 1: run away without the looming threat or sense of them
- 24:42Speaker 1: getting sent down.
- 24:44Speaker 4: Right.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So T Nolan Gorman was never in consideration to be
- 24:46Speaker 1: optioned with the Mason Winn coming back because of that reason.
- 24:50Speaker 1: If he was, I would have lit this organization up,
- 24:53Speaker 1: promise you that, because it goes against everything that they said,
- 24:56Speaker 1: Now they're doing the right thing by giving Gorman and
- 24:59Speaker 1: Walker run with. And the thing is, these players are
- 25:01Speaker 1: supposed to slump. They are supposed to struggle, because that's
- 25:05Speaker 1: how the Cardinals are going to evaluate how to go
- 25:07Speaker 1: forward with their future, because they need to know how
- 25:09Speaker 1: to get out of it.
- 25:10Speaker 3: So do you want.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Jordan Walker, Nolan Gorman slumping? Of course not.
- 25:13Speaker 1: That's not good for the offensive production, that's not good
- 25:15Speaker 1: for winning ball games. But do you need them to
- 25:17Speaker 1: struggle so you can see how they adjust at the
- 25:19Speaker 1: major league level and find ways to get out of it. Absolutely,
- 25:22Speaker 1: because that's how you're going to develop or evaluate them
- 25:25Speaker 1: for their long term production, which is the whole point
- 25:28Speaker 1: of this transition season. And Cardinals fans, I get it,
- 25:31Speaker 1: we have not done this before. It's very frustrating. But
- 25:34Speaker 1: there are going to be times where.
- 25:35Speaker 2: The Cardinals lose winnable ball games.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Because they need different key players that they hope to
- 25:39Speaker 1: be part of the future to take steps forward. And
- 25:42Speaker 1: that's what we're going to see from Gorman and Walker
- 25:43Speaker 1: right now as they work through their slumps.
- 25:46Speaker 3: No, totally, and this is a related observation. Like the
- 25:51Speaker 3: Cardinals with all their mixed messaging along the way.
- 25:54Speaker 4: You know, the one thing that they I think they've
- 25:57Speaker 4: remained true to and again Goland, excuse me, Gorman got hurt,
- 26:01Speaker 4: so that's why he sort of he just sort of
- 26:03Speaker 4: got went sideways. But but they they have remained faithful
- 26:07Speaker 4: to that premise so far.
- 26:10Speaker 3: But yeah, that's about it.
- 26:12Speaker 4: And I and I really do understand why fans will
- 26:14Speaker 4: get frustrated watching those guys. As much as I pulled
- 26:17Speaker 4: for them, and I do pull for them, I love
- 26:19Speaker 4: to see talent shine.
- 26:20Speaker 3: You know, I don't. I don't root for failure.
- 26:23Speaker 4: I don't have a problem writing and talking about failure,
- 26:25Speaker 4: but I don't root for it.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Now, get along exactly.
- 26:28Speaker 4: You know, I got in this business to cover greatness,
- 26:32Speaker 4: and I've been very blessed to cover a lot of greatness.
- 26:35Speaker 3: But here's the thing.
- 26:36Speaker 4: You know, when John Mozilak in the mixed messaging part
- 26:39Speaker 4: of this, he he talked a lot about, oh, we
- 26:43Speaker 4: could be a surprising team. Oh we're going to be
- 26:45Speaker 4: better than people expect. Well, we think we're going to
- 26:47Speaker 4: be exciting.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Well we think.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Dropping hints almost that they're going to contend. And okay,
- 26:54Speaker 4: but if you think you all these things.
- 26:57Speaker 3: You can do all these things. Why why didn't you
- 27:01Speaker 3: give your manager a bullpen this year?
- 27:04Speaker 2: Oh that's so good. I already know what we're talking
- 27:06Speaker 2: about next episode?
- 27:07Speaker 4: Yeah what why don't you know? Why don't you get
- 27:10Speaker 4: first of all the Oli haters will blame him in
- 27:12Speaker 4: for everything.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Right, but he's in this predicament now.
- 27:16Speaker 4: I think when you know he looks around, who do
- 27:18Speaker 4: you trust down there?
- 27:20Speaker 3: I mean you trust Hell's lead. I think you trust
- 27:23Speaker 3: Kyle Lahy And this will be the next episode. So
- 27:27Speaker 3: I'm so I'm teasing forward.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Uh, I think you're you know, I think you trust
- 27:32Speaker 4: Philled Mayton to an extent.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you can tell me to back up. But
- 27:36Speaker 1: he had not unlocked about her, not allowed to run
- 27:38Speaker 1: up until Monday. Actually, you guys do love this pretty quick? Yeah?
- 27:41Speaker 3: Sure, I love it.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Good Monday, Monday.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Afternoon, the three beat writers on the trip or myself, Derrek,
- 27:47Speaker 1: Oul Johndon, and then we walk into all his office
- 27:49Speaker 1: and we're just you know, catching up.
- 27:51Speaker 2: And the three things we.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Said were that hadn't happened yet were like, till Mayton
- 27:56Speaker 1: has not walked about her, Till Mayton has not allowed
- 27:59Speaker 1: an earn run and Allie had done a really nice
- 28:01Speaker 1: job with umpires. And on Monday, Jill Mayton walks a
- 28:06Speaker 1: guy here, Alabner and run and Ali got tossed.
- 28:08Speaker 2: So maybe it's us. Maybe we should just not say
- 28:10Speaker 2: anything anymore.
- 28:12Speaker 3: This bullpen.
- 28:13Speaker 4: I'm obsessed with it now because because Fernandez went sideways
- 28:18Speaker 4: and Jojo Romero. If Katie this applies to you too,
- 28:23Speaker 4: you're my friend. I don't want any other member of
- 28:26Speaker 4: the Saint Louis sports media, the baseball media, to talk
- 28:29Speaker 4: about Jojo Romero being a shutdown lefty. He's not okay,
- 28:33Speaker 4: he's not remotely close to that. Right handed hitters destroy him.
- 28:39Speaker 4: He's still good against lefties. But with this, you know
- 28:41Speaker 4: the new rule where oh, you come into a game,
- 28:43Speaker 4: you got to pitch the three batters.
- 28:45Speaker 3: Let the other managers know this.
- 28:47Speaker 4: They also know the Cardinals don't have much down there
- 28:49Speaker 4: in terms of quality left handed relief.
- 28:51Speaker 3: As soon as they send her right handed batter up.
- 28:53Speaker 4: I mean, he's he's you know, it's like hunting season,
- 28:56Speaker 4: and it's like he's awful. He's a nice guy. He
- 29:00Speaker 4: doesn't want to be awful. But and and there were
- 29:03Speaker 4: signs of deterioration. Last year, and this is what I'm
- 29:05Speaker 4: talking about. You know, if John mos Like wants to
- 29:08Speaker 4: tease the fans and incites them, oh we have we
- 29:11Speaker 4: think we could be pretty good. You know, give your
- 29:14Speaker 4: manager a bullpen to work with. Because when Fernandez went sideways,
- 29:18Speaker 4: that changed a lot. You know, not having Kittridge changed
- 29:21Speaker 4: a lot. Romero fading badly has changed a lot. But
- 29:27Speaker 4: did they have a backup plan? Do they have options?
- 29:30Speaker 1: Not?
- 29:30Speaker 3: Really?
- 29:31Speaker 1: Study you can say that across the board for the
- 29:33Speaker 1: entire roster, right right, I mean, just fall with the
- 29:36Speaker 1: bullpen and for subscribers, commenters, viewers, drop me your questions
- 29:41Speaker 1: or drop us your questions in the comments about the
- 29:43Speaker 1: bullpen and bullpen usage. Uh, specifically, if the next two
- 29:46Speaker 1: games do not go well, I have a phone to
- 29:47Speaker 1: be talking about it a lot, because Bernie here at
- 29:49Speaker 1: your spot on with everything you're saying.
- 29:50Speaker 4: I threw something at Ali on Cambo. Actually day I said, listen,
- 29:55Speaker 4: I understand the six man rotation thing, and I understand
- 29:57Speaker 4: it's going to come and it's going to go, and
- 29:58Speaker 4: it's going to come and it's going to go.
- 30:00Speaker 3: But you know, you don't have enough left handed. You
- 30:03Speaker 3: don't have a good left handed reliever down there.
- 30:05Speaker 4: All due respect to everybody else, Libertor has got to
- 30:07Speaker 4: stay in the rotation.
- 30:08Speaker 3: He deserves it, He's earned it. He's an exciting talent.
- 30:12Speaker 4: And with all due respect of Michael McGreevy, had this
- 30:14Speaker 4: discussion with a fan. If you gave the other twenty
- 30:18Speaker 4: nine general managers and said, okay, who do you think
- 30:20Speaker 4: has more upside? Liberator Michael McGreevy, all twenty nine would
- 30:24Speaker 4: say Liberator, yep, this is his time to be in
- 30:26Speaker 4: the rotation. But what I said to Ali said, why
- 30:29Speaker 4: can't you put Matt's in the bullpen and just when
- 30:32Speaker 4: you need that spot start, then that six man setup
- 30:37Speaker 4: you call McGreevy up to make that he doesn't have
- 30:40Speaker 4: to stay.
- 30:42Speaker 2: So part of the show, I was snapping in the
- 30:43Speaker 2: car on my drive at the stadium.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Oh yeah, okay, you heard that.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Yeah, And he said he said, we're uh what did
- 30:48Speaker 4: he say, We're we're kicking that around or we're you know,
- 30:52Speaker 4: I forgot what he said.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Now I can't remember, but he was basically.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Along the lines that they talked about it.
- 30:56Speaker 3: They talked about it.
- 30:57Speaker 4: So there, you know, they're putting a liber tour back
- 31:00Speaker 4: in the bullpen is not a solution. Putting mats in
- 31:02Speaker 4: the bullpen, in fact, is a solution. Again, I'm not
- 31:05Speaker 4: coldhearted about this, but he's going to be a free agent.
- 31:08Speaker 3: He won't be a Cardinal next year. You got to
- 31:10Speaker 3: invest in something that's going to last if you can.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Well, Bernie, I think you wrapped us as best as
- 31:16Speaker 1: I could because I think that you're spot on there,
- 31:18Speaker 1: and I mentioned to see if the bullpen continues to struggle,
- 31:21Speaker 1: we might see some shuffling leading up into the off
- 31:23Speaker 1: day on Thursday. I'm going to really evaluate this because
- 31:27Speaker 1: against the Brewers, especially the series after this, assuming we
- 31:30Speaker 1: all survive Atlanta, Okay, Monday did our best to wipe
- 31:32Speaker 1: us out. I'm really intrigued to see what this bullpen
- 31:36Speaker 1: looks like. And I think you made some fantastic points there.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Don't worry you all. You can watch the Cardinals bullpen
- 31:43Speaker 1: because you can now stream seeing those Cardinals games through

- 32:09Speaker 2: So Cardinals fans stay with us.
- 32:11Speaker 1: We'll have an acting, hopefully a better one after the
- 32:15Speaker 1: end of the Brave series. And then we got a
- 32:18Speaker 1: three quick three game homestand against the Brewers for from
- 32:21Speaker 1: NL Central action.
- 32:23Speaker 2: What are we doing?
- 32:24Speaker 3: What do you what?
- 32:25Speaker 2: Like?
- 32:25Speaker 4: You lose credibility if you're not there at the start
- 32:28Speaker 4: of the national anthem.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Well, no, I just have nothing. I have nothing, pept
- 32:32Speaker 1: because here's the background for you viewers. Clubhouse times if
- 32:36Speaker 1: you're the visiting team, everything is pushed back an hour
- 32:39Speaker 1: to ninety minutes later. So instead of getting at the
- 32:41Speaker 1: ball at seven fifteen, so at a home game, I
- 32:43Speaker 1: would have gotten the ballpark right around three o'clock. Clubhouse
- 32:46Speaker 1: opened at four o'clock, though, so I lost an hour
- 32:48Speaker 1: of prep time And my athletic editor is not going
- 32:51Speaker 1: be very happy with me because I said i'd have
- 32:52Speaker 1: the story and already and I haven't so.
- 32:54Speaker 3: I as a loyal Athletic subscriber.
- 32:58Speaker 4: In fact, I kept my subscription when I was working
- 33:01Speaker 4: for the Athletic. Ya you know, seriously, I did that.
- 33:05Speaker 4: But anyway, I love the Athletic. I love your work.
- 33:08Speaker 4: There's so many great writers. Jeremy Ruttherford's unbelievable. But anyway,
- 33:12Speaker 4: in all sincerity, I look forward to your story.
- 33:14Speaker 3: I know you're you're probably gonna.
- 33:15Speaker 4: Be writing and writing about the roster machinations, the decisions today.
- 33:19Speaker 3: I hopefully they'll pop it up there late at night.
- 33:23Speaker 3: I can read it. Like you know, before.
- 33:26Speaker 4: I'd lay my big fat, my big fat.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Head on the pillow and go to sleep. So that so.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Anyway, although I might turn into based on where we
- 33:34Speaker 1: are right now it's six forty Eastern time, I might
- 33:36Speaker 1: turn it into a roster value bation slash gamer.
- 33:40Speaker 2: So if Nolan Gorman has a good game, that's a
- 33:41Speaker 2: great day for me.
- 33:42Speaker 4: There you go, Gorman, help help the woman out.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Yeah please?
- 33:47Speaker 1: All right, for Bernie, I'm Katie. Thanks for watching Cardinal Territory.
- 33:50Speaker 1: We're going to be back with you in the middle
- 33:51Speaker 1: of the week. Have a good one.
