- Shamus: Hello everybody and welcome to another great episode of the Pork, Roll Egg, and Cheese Podcast. My name is Seamus. Herbie: And I'm O B one Kenobi. Shamus: You can be anywhere in the world, but you're here with us, and for that, we thank you. No sponsors this week. We're just gonna give a shout out to our buddy Brett and his buddy Mike on the Booze and Tattoos podcast. Make sure you're giving them a listen. Those guys are killing it, man, and they're actually you know, listening to a couple of your episodes, I'm like, man, we're slacking, we gotta push a little bit. So, you know, it's a friendly competition, but if you get a chance, give them a listen, man. Those guys are doing great work. And as always, the exciting new. Podcast with Andy, Dana, and Jason. Yeah. Is something I listen to. I just went up and did an episode with them to kick off their Halloween extravaganza. Where they do a couple Halloween movies from nineteen eighty six. Herbie: I'm going up there Wednesday to do Vamp Shamus: Yeah, I just just did Friday the thirteenth, part six. Yeah, Herbie: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Shamus: I do like that one. I do too. It's probably my favorite of all of I mean, they're all super cheesy. But one thing I will say about horror movies, dude, and maybe not so much Well yeah, I guess the nightmare on Elm Street ones. and them Friday the thirteenth movies with them summer camp counselor chicks. They are some beautiful women. yeah. The Herbie: Yeah, there's always a Shamus: chick in the R V in part six. Yeah. I could have married her, dude. Yeah. I remember thinking that when I saw it when I was eight, nine years old and when I watched it before I went up there and I was like, I'd still marry her. I don't care what she looks like. no doubt. Yeah. Herbie: Yeah. And like not for no that's the one good thing about like horror movies, like there's always like a soft porn sex scene and you're just like, yeah, 'cause like back in the day when you're a kid, you you don't get unless you're like finding like a you know, a hustler magazine out in the woods and stuff like that, you don't really get to see the female anatomy when you're a little kid. Shamus: Yeah, I But I just don't understand. That's why I can't vibe with Jason Voorhees. Like d to me, the scariest dude of all time, and it was only in his first movie, was that original nightmare in Elm Street really screwed me up as a kid because man, I mean, this guy would get you in sleep. You really didn't know what he'd look like But like this dude in the hockey mask or you know, the burlat bag like the first couple, it's just walking around killing all these hot women. I'm like, dude. Yeah. The guys are fine. Right? Take off the count. Yeah. Put in the dirt. Herbie: Who hurt you and broke up with you, bro, that you hate? And they're fine. Shamus: Every time you waste one of these chicks, my percentages are dropped. Yeah. Herbie: Like Jesus. Like really fine ones too, man. Shamus: Hell yeah man, that dude really needs to get a life. Herbie: Get a girlfriend though. You're probably like, you what? He put the machete down, settle down, have a hot chick, drink a beer, whatever. Shamus: Yeah, what I don't know what that dude's problem is. But anyway, I went up there, it's always a good time with them. Had to, you know kind of verbally tangle with them about the ratings they give certain movies like Cobra and Three Amigos. I mean here's a prime example of that. They gave Friday the thirteenth, part six, a higher rating than the Three Amigos. It just doesn't make sense. Herbie: What what was the score for three amigos? Shamus: I don't want to get into it, dude. I mean, I don't think Dana was the highest one at fifty. The other guys didn't get out of the twenties. Herbie: So it was just like Shamus: there was some college girl there. their buddy came home with his daughter. He was a college girl. Now her I can understand given a low rating, just because I mean she's probably eighteen, nineteen, twenty years old and has no idea about that era of film and stuff like that. But like if they all hated that movie and just I mean, it's I've just we gave it a twenty. I gave it a thirty five. Come on, Jesus. So I'm sorry Herbie: I mean it's a Shamus: guys if you're listening on Never get over that, never will. Herbie: And I can understand like maybe as far as like for the seasonal horror movie then of course you're gonna rate that higher. But Three Amigos was actually I Shamus: Well when you go up there when you go up there on Wednesday, let know. Herbie: I gotta do vamp with Grace Jones. I have to pick like another like Shamus: That shit better not get you a big Herbie: I don't think so dude. I'm don't know if anyone saw that one except like me and maybe Jason. So it's gonna but it's got Grace Jones in it. Shamus: Well, speaking of Halloween, man, I was at the store and this has been going on since the beginning of August. So this is nothing new. And this is what we're gonna talk about today, that the month of August and the transit it's like a weird transition period. Yeah. Because like you go well, first of all, they have back to school sales like at the end of June. yeah. So that's been going on for a while. But like in the beginning of August and sometimes even like the last week in July, like You'll be in there and like back to school sales and stuff like that. And as you walk by that, there's like all the animatronics for Halloween's already out. And Herbie: yeah, they've been doing that for years now. Shamus: like all the summer lawn stuff is gone. Like all the fall stuff's already out. And I'm like, dude, it is like July 28th. What are we doing? Why is there a six-foot jack-o'-lantern monster thing up in Lowe's or a BJ's or Sam's Club already? Like, what are we doing? Herbie: Like is it me or is like does it seem like like summer really like flew by, dude? Shamus: It seems like that because you've already seen all the falls. There was pumpkin spice shit everywhere. And we'll get to that later. But I'm just kinda like, can we enjoy the rest of the summer before we start? Yeah. Like I really don't Yeah. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: It's like I said, like this is also the month that football starts. and that's preseason football. Yeah. And but come on, man. Herbie: That's when you the well that's when Shamus: This is like a really weird month for like transitioning. Herbie: the when you see preseason football, it's like it's getting ready to be the start of fall. But like summer was like, you know, us kayaking, barbecuing, you know, just enjoying like, you know, granted a lot of times it was hot and You know, lot of people don't want to leave their abodes because it's too freaking sweltering and there's like, you know, butt crack and onions scent all over again. Everyone's all swampy. You know what I mean? Everyone just wants to retire. Yeah. Yeah, definitely that's another crock pot soup flavor of but like butt crack and onions. Shamus: Well that's I always I never did like the month of August. to me that's true either dog days of summer. It's kind of getting like I think I mentioned this early, like in May or the end of April. Like this is the time in the beginning of spring, especially this year, for some reason it stayed cold for a while. Yeah. Like I was just like, man, I can't wait to get out there, fire up the grill. I can't wait to get out there, cut the grass. I can't wait to get out there, vacuum the pool and skim it. This is the time of year in August. I'm just like, man, I can't wait to cover that pool up. I can't wait until I put this lawnmower. I don't want to cut that shit anymore. You know, that kind of deal. Yeah. like you said, usually this month so far hasn't been too bad. This summer hasn't been too, too bad. Yeah. Heat-wise. Knock on wood if we can find some of it around here. But usually August is like that sweltering, like just horrible month where nobody wants to come out of their house. and it's just to me, it just kind of this month sucks. Herbie: Does it ever like like do you you ever like hear like a like a a a a sound like when you go out to your backyard to do like, you know, the yard work and everything, and it's like, you know, either you don't hear anything or you just hear like that electric buzzing. You know, it's like really quiet. So it's like, you know, the power lines are still buzzing, and then next thing you know you hear lawnmowers cranking up and freaking weed whackers and all that freaking you know, I was just doing it the other day. Frickin' trimming up trees and pull stuff out and pulling weeds and just like and I'm still like you know how when I'm you know when I'm starting to get old is like I'm starting to appreciate edge lines on lawns. Shamus: Yeah, my shit. Herbie: Shit's tight. Shamus: Yeah, my driveway's gotta look I don't have a curb anymore because there's no curbs out here in Med well, at least in my section of Medford. but my my driveway is pretty long and that's gotta be I mean, it's gotta look like military tight. Like it's amazing how that dresses up a house. Yeah. But like I said, it's August and I'm tired of doing the shit. yeah. Tired of it. Yeah. And like I said, you're going into Home Depot to get like more wire for your weed whacker or something, like a new spark plug for your lawnmower and you're looking at Halloween candy and decoration. Jack O Land. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: And now they're putting out all their Carhartt jackets, like the winter jacket. I'm like, what do we Herbie: It just happens that fast, dude. I mean it's like next thing you know, like maybe next week they're gonna have like all the turkey stuff out there too, man. Shamus: It's like I I went into Wawa the other day, got the pumpkin spice coffee and shit. I'm like, here we go. Next thing you know the gobbler will be on the menu again. And like I just can't stand that shit. Herbie: I'm gonna lie though, cause Wawa has like what that that churro and caramel freaking flavored coffee. Dig that like sugar smacks, bro. Also a blueberry cobbler Shamus: No. Herbie: one. Yeah, dig that too. Shamus: No, I'm I d I do. I I'm French vanilla guy. Herbie: yeah, yeah, yeah. I do actually not for the actu well, if let's real quick, before we do anything, like when you go to Wawa, how do you fix your coffee? Shamus: It's usually just coffee and if they have no sugar French vanilla, just right in there. If not, just French vanilla. Herbie: And just regular. Shamus: Well, French vanilla creamer too. Yeah, but like regular If they don't have no sugar, French vanilla creamer, then it's just French vanilla creamer. I try to steer away from sugar at my age. I'm actually down ten pounds. Herbie: Good for you, man. I'm still all chunky. I like being chunky. Everyone's like, Yeah, let's go to video. I'm like, as long as you shoot me from like my my the bridge of my nose up, you know? 'Cause I'll be wearing a baseball cap 'cause I'm I'm also bald. Shamus: That's why I tell my hairstylist big shout out to Kelly. She's always like, How's it look? And I'm like, from the ears up, it's perfect. She's like, Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: from the ears down, I'm like, what do you think? Yeah. She was like, Well, this is gonna affect my tip, so. Herbie: Well when I go to Wawa, like for me I the Irish cream and then I'll put a little bit of cinnamon on. They got a little bit of bougie with their cinnamon. Shamus: I can't even fuck with like this time of year people watching cinnamon shit. Herbie: actually used to have that little like shaker with the marshmallows in it. It's gone. I miss it. And I would just throw some in there. 'Cause actually I don't really like messing with It's out there all the time, but like for some reason lately when I I think so, but I just go right that I honestly shame Shamus: Is hot chocolate still available? Or is that like a winter fall thing? Because if hot chocolate's not available, I'm not gonna put the marshmallows out. Well Herbie: Well I don't know man, 'cause a lot of times I always go there it'd be like regular sea and there was Shamus: I mean you can get pumpkin coffee in mid July. Herbie: maybe they'll bring the marshmallows out again back then. I don't know, man. It's just like it used to be like my little routine of a when I go to Wawa, I a breakfast sandwich with a hash brown and you put the hash brown in the sandwich. That's that's how you do it. Okay. And then you know they also have like the cinnamon and like the marshmallow things in there. So that's actually how I would even before autumn, even summertime. Just have like my Shamus: That's another thing. What the hell's autumn? What Herbie: I don't know. The change Shamus: is the difference between autumn and fall? Herbie: maybe some kind of witch. Shamus: Is that some rich people shit? Or maybe like us us middle class people just call it fall. No, but the rich people like it's autumn. Herbie: I don't know. You know, chicks that walk around like goth chicks with like, you know, those healing stones and gems and all that shit or into like Wiccan and all that. I don't know. It could be like a sanguine moon where they can increase their powers or I I don't know, man. So like I guess it's just different terms. It's like autumn and fall. Shamus: Okay, the first thing I think of is like Alicia Silverstone from Clueless, like as if law is for poor people. Herbie: It's all well I think actually you know what, maybe autumn is actually the turning of the the leaves and stuff and then fall of course would be where the leaves start falling and you know, that's when we gotta start. Shamus: here it is. I just chat GPT'd it. yeah? Both autumn and fall refer to the same season between summer and winter. The difference is a mainly regional and stylistic. Autumn, more common in British English and many other English-speaking countries, is often considered a bit more formal or literary. Fall, more common in America in Canadian English, sounds more conversational in North America. Example, fall's my favorite season. So yeah, in Britain, I guess it's autumn, and here it is fall. Which kind of makes sense that autumn is kinda uppity and fall is middle class stuff. But Herbie: Yeah man, so like my one my other buddies, like you know, with autumn and fall and stuff, the my British buddies, instead of us saying aluminum, they call it aluminium. Which is very cool. Shout out to Andy, Jeremy, and Sam. Miss you guys. Hope to see you guys soon. But you know, all the proper pronunciations and I guess what like all Hallows Eve, I guess how like they would actually use that terminology or Sam Haynes Day or I don't know. Not really sure. If you know, especially for us talking about like fall and you know, Halloween season. Not sure how they celebrate it. Maybe I shouldn't ask them. Shamus: Ask if they're they got pumpkin spice in their local quick stops Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: or whatever it is over there. You know, in August and all that stuff. Yeah. Herbie: Tescoes and stuff. Shamus: The other I I kinda got depressed the other day. I was actually it was yesterday. I was driving to pick up some more stuff for the the set. Yeah. Going to the local hardware store and all the buses were driving around. I guess they're Driving around checking them for maintenance, getting them ready to start picking these kids up And I was like, man, this month absolutely sort It's like nobody wants the summer to exist. Exactly. They're just trying to get it to end. And don't get me wrong, I've been off sa all summer. So I'm kinda ready to go back to work, but I don't want to rush anything. It's like I said, man, they got Halloween shit out already. They got back to school sales going on in like mid-July. Like like you said, by the time we get back to school and by the end of September there'll be Thanksgiving and Christmas shit out. It's absolutely insane. Yeah. Which is Herbie: It's almost like they try to like it. Shamus: crazy because in today's world with online like you can buy everything online. Like you can buy Christmas stuff in March and April. Yeah. You can buy Halloween costumes in March and like Yeah. So I don't know why there's this big need to rush all the shit out. And I listen, w we talked about it briefly. The pumpkin thing, pumpkin spice this, pumpkin beer, pumpkin coffee. yeah. You could take all that shit and stick it up your ass. I cannot stand like it's to the point now where I don't even eat pumpkin pie. That's how and I used to love pumpkin pie as a kid. I don't mess with pumpkin seeds anymore. I don't do it. my god. And Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: then you got those people who are just like, pumpkin I can't wait for the pumpkin beer to come out. This is the best stuff on my ass. If it was so good, they would sell the shit all year. Yeah. You know how you enjoy a pumpkin beer? How? You dump it down the sink. That's how I enjoy my pumpkin beer. Herbie: no, well you got like the microbrews places that do that stuff, you know, it's like you're paying like eighteen bucks for a six ounce thing pumpkin ale or whatever. Shamus: God, I hate those people. I really do. Herbie: I still can't get down with IPAs, dude. I I I just can't do it. I'm not I'm not that guy. yeah, that's a whole nother Shamus: And that's a whole different whole different episode. What I tried to do there and I just did it the other night, me and a lady friend went up to it was last week actually. We went up to King's Road. Uh-huh. We went up to shout out to what the hell's the name of place? Joe's Pizza. Uh-huh. They make organic pizza right up on Main Street, Medford. we went up there, got some pizza and then we went up to King's Road Brewery, which is right next to Holehog. And what I usually do and I'll keep this short is I just look for anything orange and lime. Mm-hmm. And I'm like, I'll take that. 'Cause it usually takes like a Bud Light Lime or a Lang and Google. And I'm good there because like you said, IPAs and stuff I I don't understand all this. I know some of them give me I guess I'm allergic to too many like hops or wheat or whatever it may be and I get that lump in my chest that just really? Yeah, I can't deal with it. Herbie: More of a like a stout Heffenweisen. I'd like anything. I'm a big I'm a big fan of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. Always been. Cherry Wheat. Cherry Wheat. Shamus: Yeah, but anything pumpkin, you can take that shit right then the Herbie: Yeah, I'm good. Shamus: tired of that. One thing I do look forward to though is I I don't know because I haven't I was so disgusted I didn't go over to the Halloween section, but I love me some candy corn, man. are you one of Herbie: You're w Shamus: those guys? See, I and listen, if they have the pumpkins, the candy corn pumpkins. That's even better. my God. I know Five Below has them. I don't know if they're I don't know if they're out right now, but when I find out Five Below, dude, I go in there and buy like a box, and no shit. I'll ask the dude, I'm like, what's a box going for? Yeah. And because those things are so amazing You gotta get them before they're like super like they're hard on the outside, but the pumpkins are like kind of still soft on the inside. man. I know everybody's like, my God, how do you hate pumpkin, but you love candy corn? Listen. Herbie: Candy corn is completely different. Like I mean I I can't eat Shamus: Yeah. Herbie: I remember eating them as a kid 'cause I remember back in the day when you go hollow with trick-or-treating, you you would get them loose. You wouldn't they wouldn't come in like in a box or anything like that, or maybe like that little Shamus: You got the bag with like four or five of them in there. Herbie: But other than that, dude, I was like I mean Actually you know what? I hate worse. I mean like I don't really hate those. I just avoid them. But those what is it, the the marshmallow chicks from Easter? I can't do it. I can't do it. I Shamus: I can only eat like one or two of those. Herbie: can't do it. I can't do it, dude. Can't do it. But like Halloween candy, are we gonna you wanna talk about Halloween candy? Shamus: I kinda like the marshmallows when they've been sitting for a while and they get kinda hard and stale. Herbie: Well now you can actually go to Amazon and get the goddamn Lucky Charms marshmallows all by themselves without the cereal. I'm like, ho ho ho. Shamus: I think they saw it at the store too. You can just the marshmallows. Really? Yeah. But I don't need any of that. Herbie: yeah. I mean I like I like sweets, but I I can only do her for Shamus: I like hot cereal, brother. Herbie: I can't dude you like hot cereals? Shamus: Like we talked about this. You told me you were like, I don't care what you put on. Herbie: Yeah, I'm like Jesus. No, can't do it. It still reminds me of like the little rascals eating that mush. Shamus: That's another thing, man. I've never been into and I love those memes. I absolutely like you'll see a store that's closed down. Yeah. And then all of a sudden, like right around another thing, right around June or July, the spirit of Halloween banner goes up on it. And it I'd love when like a team and my buddy does this to me all the time. Big shout out to my buddy Jose up in Boston. Anytime like the Sixers or, you know, the Eagles get knocked out of the playoffs, there's a picture of like a financial field and the the The spirit of Halloween banners on there. I'm like, this motherfucker. But yeah, the spirit of Halloween. I've never been in one of those stores. And they're another corporation that just bang in June we're gonna start selling Halloween shit. I'm like, are you just serious? Herbie: Come up anywhere, dude. Like they just pop up, dude. I swear to God, it's almost like they they Shamus: There's one right around the corner. Herbie: I'm sure. Like me, I love like, you know, costumes and we're you know, you know me, dude. I'm always wearing a goddamn costume. But freaking yeah, I love Spirit of Halloween. That's that's another reason why I love like Halloween. You know, I love horror movies. I love like the whole thing. Even like, you know, we mentioned before about like the old Disney ones, but like, you know, Sleepy Hollow, like those Shamus: We're gonna get to that when we get closer to Halloween, but that's another thing. I'm surprised they haven't started showing I I know I went up to The Exciting and New and did, you know, I'm kicking off their Halloween extravaganza and stuff, but but that's because they have to do like ten Halloween movies in between now. But I'm surprised they haven't started showing Halloween stuff yet on TV. That's one thing. One thing I do like is and it starts in October when it should. Yeah. I think it's sci-fi or one of does the thirty-one days of Halloween where they show a different Halloween movie or some kind of horror movie. yeah. That's pretty cool. Herbie: Love that stuff. I love horror movies. I'm a big fan of that stuff. Even Monster Mania and all that type of thing. It's like you kinda like dig being scared, but you also love like the gore and everything and you know, some of the movies like Nightmare and Delma Street where it started having like sense of humor to it. Shamus: Hmm. Herbie: But then, you know, not too much, but you still want like you still want like a creepy, like horror movie, you know what I mean? Shamus: Yeah. I just don't want it in August. Yeah. yeah. I still wanna still wanna I I finally just like like you we talked about, it'll probably be on the next pod too. finally broke out my grill the other day. It's August. I just finally got around the Herbie: It's almost like you gotta put it right back. Shamus: shit. no, it's gonna be out there until at least November. yeah. So 'cause it's like I said, as much as I'm ready to go back to work, I'm not ready to let the summer go. I know everybody else wants to you know, do all this. I that's another thing on my algorithm and it'll probably be ten times worse now is all these people show you how to do DIY Halloween decorations and which is cool. You can do that all year round, I guess. But now it's really starting to amp up and I don't know, all this Halloween talk and back to school talk and shit. Like, can we just enjoy the summer for a minute? Like we still have Actually, because Labor Day's so late, I know a lot of kids are going back early. I think my school starts on the thirty first of August. Yeah. but can we at least enjoy like these last two weeks of summer before we have to Herbie: Some more pool parties, cues, freaking just like hanging outside drinking beers, even on a hot day, just just pulling the ice cold beer out of a cooler, man. That is just like, ugh. It's great. And actually for the listeners, when you do that, the first two beers don't count because they go down too damn fast. Shamus: Yeah. Yeah, they do, man. They do. Herbie: Like butter. Shamus: Especially when you've been working all day. Like when you're not doing yard work and stuff and then you go and get a shower and you got people showing up and you sit down and like that barbecue we talked about and all that stuff that we had last week. I did the yard that day. Yeah. I did all that blue off the driveway. Did come to front grass, backgrass, weed whacked everything, got in a pool, vacuumed it, skimmed it, had the water testing, made sure we were good, And then, you know, got a shower, went food shopping, came back, fired up the grill, seasoned some steaks, you know, started putting everything in other people. Started showing up, and when I finally got to sit down, that first beer was just. Herbie: went down quick. And you mentioned some steaks, bro. You actually like when Seamus does it, he does it, bro. There was just like not some steaks. There was Tranosaurus like freaking chops, man. It was like felt like I was on the Flintstones, dude. It was so good I ate it with my hand. Shamus: great man once told me and his name is and I'll mention his name because I'm I'm sure I haven't talked to the guy in ages. We served together. His name was Ronald Walker. Mm-hmm and I'll never forget this. I guess his girlfriend of town found him cheating. And I'm walking through the parking lot of the barracks and this chick is in his car just throwing CDs out. And she and he's standing there just watching her, taking it like a champ. and she stood up out of the car holding something and she's like, I'll throw this too. And he was like, If you're gonna go, go all out. So every time I barbecue, I used to Ronnie Walker. If you're gonna barbecue, you go, you go all out. You go get the big stakes. You don't buy the chinchy stuff. When you get the shrimp, you buy the big shrimp. Yeah. Yeah. So I was Herbie: I wish Shamus: kinda gonna really do it up and do the shrimp cocktail thing and all that stuff. But I didn't have the glasses. Herbie: You didn't have to, man. That thing was like that whole thing was nice. Still summertime Shamus: Yeah, it was good. Herbie: 'cause like, you know, every like you sh like you said, you sh you you wanna be able to enjoy the summer. Granted, like, you know, there's sometimes it's it's too hot and you just wanna stay indoors like the rest of the people. Shamus: Everybody's trying to rush it. Let's put the Halloween stuff out. Let's put the fact that the Herbie: Down, man. Like said before, slow down, smell the roses, man. It's almost like Shamus: It's ridiculous. Herbie: why rush through life, man? Just like you you really gotta take it easy, take it slow. And I'm saying that to everybody. You know, it's it's glad to or good to, you know, project in the future, like what are you gonna do? Like, all right, well, you know, this season's coming up, so we're gonna do this, that, that, that, that. But actually, you know, enjoy what you're doing now, man. Drink that beer, eat that hot dog. Shamus: Well, that's my grandfather always told me. He's don't wish because I was when was a kid, I was like, I can't wait to get old and get my license. I can't wait to do it. He's like, bro, don't wish your life away. Don't get here, calm down. But another thing I think it does, and it does it to me, I am so sick by by September 15th, I'm done with Halloween. Yeah. I am so sick of seeing it. That they just it's overkill. Yeah. Like I used to love when you're when we were a kid, like Black Friday, that's when stores started putting Christmas decorations up. You know, and like the Christmas stuff came out and there was no rush to put that stuff. Herbie: You always almost have like almost like two week it was almost like you had a two week pregame for the event. You know what I mean? Which was cool. Shamus: Like they didn't rush all that stuff. Like it was like in that movie A Christmas Story. Yeah. He was like, it's the you know, the day after Thanksgiving gimbals was lit up with all the new toys and stuff. Like that's what Christmas was to me. And that's Christmas time is the day after Thanksgiving up until January first. Yeah. but now it's right after Halloween. They don't they totally bypass Thanksgiving now and they put the Christmas shit out. Like November first. So by the time December first rolls around, I'm just like, Man, that one what is it? B one one plays Christmas music starting like November fifteenth for twenty four hours a day or November first or something. Like I am so sick of cr and I love Christmas music. I love Christmas. Herbie: You'll start seeing like the memes of like Mariah Carey like slowly throwing out behind like the big block of ice. Shamus: Sorry, but I love that song. I love her and I love that song. I don't know if my friend still listens and if she is, she's probably like this motherfucker. Because we used to battle all the time. we don't talk as much anymore. But yeah, God, I love that. but yeah, I'm just I try I totally avoid that station at all costs until December first because I just don't want to hear it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas on November second. Yeah. It's re it's absolutely absurd, dude. That's what it it's the dollar. Herbie: Actually, yeah, you're right. I think it's more like marketing instead of just like Shamus: It's you know, we're gonna make money, we're gonna beat everybody to punch them, we're gonna put Christmas shit out on November first. Yeah. Herbie: It's like confusing 'cause like literally sometimes you can go to Walmart, you'll see like Christmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving stuff like all in the same freaking Shamus: Yeah, as the Christmas stuff's going out, you have Halloween clearance stuff. Yeah. I don't know man. Society anymore is just to to me it's just kinda like it's it's all about money. Herbie: Yeah, it just like pushes through everything, man. Like it just like it almost like makes you want to push through your life. Shamus: That's I said don't wish your life away. Like calm down. It'll it'll get here. Yeah. Herbie: that's that's why like sometimes I think now for me when I'm getting out the age where like I love doing the kayak and things so much I even did it today dude I was out there for like an hour, hour and a half and it was just awesome because it was it it time stood still for me. Where'd you go? actually you know the regular you know my regular like Herbie Lake hung out there had my radio. the Herbie Shamus: Where the hell is Herbie Lake? Is that the one behind Kim's house? Yeah. Kim's parents? Herbie: So it just like, you know, just had the radio on. Some good tunes were cranking. Had a couple bottles of water out there. And it was just like there was no sun. It was just like, you know, there was like a little bit of overcast. So like you're not getting like burned out there. And it was a nice gentle breeze. And it was just like so still and quiet. I didn't even see like I saw a heron. I didn't see like all the ducks. No beavers. Nothing. It was just like still. It was just beautiful, man. It was just nice. Shamus: Lord's Day, that's why they're all a church. They're not doing their thing. Herbie: Yeah, I think that's why a lot of times people actually need to do that. Like everyone needs like that downtime or that type of thing that like just slow down. Even like you said before yourself that you need to stop and smell the roses, man. Like sometimes you don't need to move so goddamn fast. You're not you don't have to accomplish everything, but you know, I'm just glad being here accomplishing some things with ya. But it's just, you know, take our time. Just enjoy our enjoy the moment. Shamus: Yeah, no doubt. No doubt. Did you see that thing? They they cut that tree down. Did you see that thing, you or is that her? Herbie: yeah yeah yeah I sent that to you. Yeah. No, that was that was me. I was like, Yeah, yeah, go back Shamus: that' Yeah, we'll have to go back. I'm kinda hoping this rain kinda brings the level up a little bit so we don't have to get out but yeah. Yeah w we'll get definitely going on the Coach Road thing. But yeah, getting back to where we talked about I'm just not ready for the summer end and these motherfuckers just trying to rush it. Pisses me Herbie: What's some of like your some of the like your things that you like about the summer? Shamus: Well it's like I said, it's just especially after last winter, 'cause last winter was so brutal. And not from a snow standpoint, because it only snowed that one but like we got all that ice on top of it. And it seemed like it was there forever. Yeah. Because I mean it was just so Like I was outside for parent drop off in the morning for school and it like five deg like on my watch, my Apple watch, it's like five degrees outside. Yeah. And you're just like the high today's gonna be eighteen and you're like, dude, are we in like Antarctica? Like where the fuck like for some reason it was ridiculously cold all year. So Herbie: It's almost like you're at the battle. Shamus: this summer and I did it again. I totally let the summer get by me. I was so worried about getting stuff done and just I didn't get the chance to do as much as I wanted to from a recreational standpoint. Right but I just it's like I said and I you know, I I joked about it earlier. I kind of do enjoy cutting the grass. I still, you know, like all that stuff. I I do that but I I just like doing I like being outside and doing stuff outside in the summertime. And when people start kind of like, let's hurry up and get to autumn or fall or whatever the fuck it is, you know, we're gonna put out weed stuff. That shit just irritates my god, that chaps my Herbie: Well that could be like some of like, you know, those people's like favorite seasons and stuff, but it's it like again, like the the whole the whole concept of life is like stop fucking rushing through life. Enjoy the day. Shamus: On the other side of that ball, I've never had kids. But I know somebody's parents like, Man, I can't wait to the first day of school and get babies little bat. Yeah. And I've known parents over the years that after the kids get on the bus and they leave, they go back to the house with all the other parents and they have like back to school put with mimosas and all that shit. Yeah, exactly. So I've never been on that side of the ball, so those aren't the people I'm talking to. If you need to get your kid back in school and all that shit because you're gonna choke to death. Yeah. Then yeah, maybe it should hurry up a little bit for you cats. Yeah. But don't let me find out you're how you're hanging Halloween decorations up the minute they get on that bus. Or you're drinking pumpkin coffee at the goddamn bus stop. Herbie: Pump s pumpkin spice flavored creamers. Shamus: Yeah, that too. Herbie: I mean good for I'm like good for people like that, but I like I mean I Shamus: It's not my bag. Yeah. Ugh. Why, what do you like about the summer? Besides the barbecues, the beers. god. That Herbie: Yeah, almost Shamus: and I like the girls don't wear too many clothes. I'm not gonna lie. Listen, I'm not a pervert or anything like that, but I just think I kinda I like I like women. Herbie: Herbie's naughty. I'm a sinner. Shamus: I mean some of them shouldn't be wearing the stuff that they do, but true. And those are the ones I'm trying to like, and just keep moving. But some of them I'm like, Whoop. Herbie: And you it's funny for too, like I like all the pretty ones, but they're all they when they look at me they're like, he's so nice. I just want him as a friend. Like But yeah, I think like another thing like for me for summer is like definitely like the outside type stuff. You know, just like the wildlife, just like just sometimes even those those summer nights I think of like it's like one of the most precious for me. You know what mean? Because it's cooled down. You went through like a long hot day and it's just like it's cool. That the air is still. It's almost like it it's it's very calm and passive and it's just like it's almost like it's like freezes time. You know what I mean? It really does. Like at nighttime, it's almost like you you can actually take your time and not rush through shit. You know what I mean? And you can either either decide whether you want to go to sleep early or you wanna try to make the most of the nighttime and maybe Hang out in your back porch. Just just enjoy yourself. Like even like everybody needs downtime. Even when you come home from work, you need like that decompression time to be able to like tackle whatever you gotta do at work and stuff. So I don't know, just like something like that. It keeps me reminds me of not just like the weather and stuff, but just like the being a part of the environment during that time. So it's just it just for that it matters to me. Shamus: Well I like them it's usually early summer nights. Yeah. And have like the it's like real still out. Yeah. You know, you're having a beer with a couple people, like on somebody's deck near a pool or something like that. And like you look over and you see like the lightning bugs off in a distance and all that shit. And it's the smell of Herbie: that's Shamus: like grass and all that. And you're just kind of like, man, this is fresh. And you're just having like a Like it's just a normal conversation with normal people and stuff and you're sitting around and the tiki torches are lit. Yeah. Around you to keep the bugs and shit away. Herbie: Granted skeeters are a pain in the ass in South Jersey, man. But also like another good thing about South Jersey is like you know those little fresh farm stands. You know what I mean? You're getting all that fresh produce and people are starting to do like their own little gardens and everything, which is cool. Shamus: I it's like I said, I I went and I told you about this. I went past her the other day. Our our friend of the show, Aunt Rita. She was out of her farm stand the other day, but she was kind of putting stuff away and I was gonna stop, but I was just like, I don't wanna, you know, have her unpack anything or and you know Rita, she'd be don't keep your money and give me all this stuff and you know, I just but yeah, she's right around the corner, so I'm definitely gonna go see her again. I told her I should have did it today, I totally forgot to do it. But yeah, I I just love everything about like just being outside and like you said, that summertime feel. Yeah. Yeah. And then when people start trying to rush that and it just kind of pisses me out. Even some of the music, and I'm not talking like summertime by Fresh, but like the Summer Wind by Frank Sinatra, The Boys of Summer by Don Henley. Yeah. You know, that kind of Yeah. So yeah, there's nothing better than another thing, like you're going up to the wax carrot factory and the occasional concert breaks out, Junk Mail Steve pulls out his guitar and you know, Heyman pulls out his bongos and one of us sings and you know Bob pulls out his guitar and where I play the bongos and somebody else, you know, it's and t if Tom's there, Tom pulls out little Tommy pulls out his gu i it's pretty cool, man, to sit around and do shit like that. And I'm blessed to have friends like that. Herbie: Me too, man. It's like it's it's very like if you really think about shit, it's like it it's enriching. You know what I mean? 'Cause you're you're exposed to like a lot of different like walks of life, ways of life and how people celebrate it. And like the fact that they want you to be there is actually probably like the most rewarding thing of it all. You know, just Shamus: Well, there's nothing better than Bobby and Steve. Like, hey man, hey man, hey man, they both show up and all of a sudden they start playing Love Will Keep Us Alive by the Eagles, one of the slowest songs in the history of man, like you know. And these two hyper ass dudes like, hey man, man. Yeah. Herbie: no. Shamus: And you're just like, how do like, wow, talk about downshifting? Herbie: Yeah, actually, you what they kinda remind me of like, especially like Fourth of July. Remember like the jumping jack fireworks and when you light them like it's them and then like they burn out real quick and they'd like Love Will Kee. Shamus: And I love it they they're so excited. There's like, hey, I don't really want to go back. And then they look around as they're playing like Does anybody know the words? And like I'll end up singing it or you know, Big Bob sings it or you pick up like anything they play Herbie: Like a chorus or some shit. Shamus: Yeah. And of course every time they play La Bomba they look right at you. Herbie: Like I got this. know how many times they're singing at their weddings. Everything, man. It's like Jesus Christ. They're like, you're up, Herbie. Like, okay. Shamus: So it's good and that's why I l I kinda love the summertime too. but like I said, August is just such a weird transition. Yeah. It's like okay, we're still summertime, but we're gonna start getting ready back to school, but we're also gonna put Halloween shit out 'cause it's only two and a half months away and pumpkin spice everything. Herbie: yeah. But I think like for for me, like the you know summertime and autumn and all that is like especially for South Jersey, dude. South Jersey is known for bonfires. So that's like the best months. Shamus: That's another thing people are rushing. Let's make a bonfire. Motherfucker, it's 83 degrees out here. The sun's down. It's 83 degrees and it's 100% humidity. What do we need a fire for? Now granted, if you have kids and they're doing the marshmallow thing or you know, small God, I love a small Herbie: Yeah, s'mores are good. Shamus: That's cool. But if you just want to sit around the campfire, like why? Herbie: yeah, 'cause actually really think about it, you got a lot especially during the summertime, people got like RVs. 'Cause like when w the summer like the summer days are hot, but at the summer nights are actually nice and cool. So it's almost like you you feel rejuvenated because you're drained during the day and then nighttime, you're hanging out. Maybe you're wearing a hoodie, maybe you're not. Especially in South Jersey, dude. It's like, you bonfire time and everyone's just hanging out, crankatounes, drinking beers. So it's it's just like It's almost like a rejuvenation type thing. I don't know. I think like s for South Jersey I think like bonfires are always like that type of Shamus: That's fall thing for me, man. That's Herbie: Yeah, but that it's a Shamus: jeans and hoodie weather. yeah. You know what I mean? I can't do that shit sitting around true in shorts and a T shirt. Well Herbie: Yeah, July fourth during the day. I mean you're not gonna have a bonfire, but July fourth at nighttime when the fireworks are going off, yeah, there might be a little fire. Shamus: I don't know. To me that's a fall thing. Yeah. But like I said, if you have kids and you go camping, like when I was a kid, we used to go to the Poconos all the time. I think I mentioned that in the previous and at night we would build a small campfire so we could like roast marshmallows or s'mores or whatever, or just sit around a bullshit as we got older. but I mean the poconos was a fifteen degree difference. Herbie: Or, you know, like when we were in high school and stuff like that, especially in South Jersey, a bonfire party was Yeah, dude. Shamus: yeah, that's different if you're drinking beers and stuff. But I mean most of the time that was in the fall and winter too, because in the summertime we all went our own ways, we're on summer vacation shit, so So Herbie: shore stuff like that. Shamus: Yeah. But yeah. Herbie: I do I'll love me some good bonfires. I get to have a bonfire anytime, I don't care. Like it like for me, bonfires aren't like designated for like a s specific season. You know, sometimes I need to burn some extra brush and all that crap. Shamus: Well absolutely. Yeah, well I mean we we live in that area where in the pines they burn everything. Pallets, trash, tires. I I stop every once in a while and say, can I throw this hope and dream in there? Bro gasoline. Herbie: Every other goddamn combustible. Yeah, but those are always good though, man. I I like South Jersey's definitely known for like, you know, the bonfires, man. Shamus: Well that's I said, that's another thing. Like with the transition in August. All these people are like, I can't wait for these kids to go back to school. I can't wait for this, this, and that. People want to rush this stuff. I mean, I I guess they forget what it's like to live in Medford during the fall when ninety thousand tons of leaves just drop on your Dude, it literally starts raining leaves like October fifteenth and doesn't start until like December twentieth. And it's like constant like it's almost like a steady snow. It's just leaves and leaves and leaves. my Herbie: Leaf piles and all that stuff I I s I I still do love like when you're a kid you just like jump in the big leaf pile. Freaking awesome. Shamus: You ever see a video of that dog that does that? Yeah. Where he just hauls ass out of the house. Herbie: Yeah, he just like full blaze dude. Shamus: I was like, man, that looks so much fun. Yeah. So, yeah, I'm not looking forward to that this fall. my god, this area is just ridiculous. Herbie: Sorry, well what do you like about Fall? Shamus: Football. Herbie: yeah, well yeah. Shamus: And like I said, that's the year for me, it's bonfires 'cause everybody's wearing a hoodie. Yeah. You know, you know, jeans, work boots and stuff like that, whatever. I mean, you know, outside stuff. Herbie: Yeah, don't wear nice stuff for like a bonfire 'cause there's sometimes you could sit there just chilling out. Yeah, but only that, like sometimes Yeah, butt cracking onions. Shamus: you smell like Did you say earlier? What did you say? Butt cracking onions? Yeah, you smell like butt cracking smoke. Yeah. Like something if you're not wearing deodorant onions. But I rock deodorant, so yeah. Herbie: But freaking like you know, I I had a couple like encouragements too. Like you gotta wear like shitty clothes for the bonfires because every once in a while you'll sit there just chilling and you'll hear like that pop and then next thing you know, like maybe Shamus: Get their members on it. Herbie: yeah, like maybe a minute or two, you're sitting there just chilling, like what's going on? Next thing it just burns through your shit and burns you, like, what the shit. So wear clothes that you don't care about, man. Shamus: What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna I'm gonna negate all that. When I build when we do the new concrete in the backyard for the pool, we're gonna have one in built-in gas fire pit things put in. yeah? Yeah. Not like one of those what they like the modern art things where it's like one flame with all the glass, marble. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's gonna look like a real fire. All right, cool. It'll have that real fire simulation to it. Or Herbie: Like well. Shamus: like just something where I can light and throw a couple logs in there and light so Herbie: Smokeless ones. Smokeless. Yeah, they're good. Shamus: Yeah. Yeah, those look pretty wild. Herbie: Cause me, yeah, when I'm burning stuff, I want to burn wood. Or Shamus: I can remember the list. Herbie: trash or my junk mail. Sorry, Steve, because I do I do burn my junk mail, I'll use that. He's like, I'll keep it coming. That's why I'm not a big like, you know, you know, hater of junk mail. Shamus: Yeah, it's kindling. Yeah. Yeah. I guess we could start wrapping this up, buddy. Any other Herbie: Well like what Shamus: thoughts or Herbie: Well like when you're doing a bonfire, like what do you what like what's like your favorite type of thing to drink and wha what do you like to snack on? Like what what's like your what's like your ideal fall bonfire setting? Shamus: Well see, I'm one of those dudes like I said, I don't think any kind of fall decoration or anything should be put out until the first official day of fall, which is usually like September twenty through the twenty second. and that's when I usually switch out of because I'll switch out of Bud Light Lime or Corona. Yeah. That's only a summertime thing for me. I usually go to know if I'm watching an Eagles game or something and I'm gonna have more than one, they usually have some kind of special at the bar. So I usually get like a Quarz light or a Miller light. Yeah. bonfire stuff I try to do like blue moon. keep the vitamin C levels up with the orange to keep stay healthy, not get a cold. And especially when you work in these schools because you kids are like walking these carriers. so yeah it's usually like a blue moon or something like that. Or maybe just that's when I r I really get back into old fashions. Herbie: How nice. Shamus: Can't really drink. I don't know. It's classy, bro. thanks. even if it's not an old fashioned, I'll just drink some kind of whiskey or bourbon. Yeah. I can't really do that. I I could drink teel in the summertime, but that's not good for anybody in the Medford area. that usually it's it's bad. Herbie: I don't even know how we made that one pool party, man. We went through bottles and bottles of that stuff, dude. Shamus: I don't know, I kept my clothes on that night. Herbie: my exactly God wasn't in the woods or nothing, man. Shamus: But usually yeah, it's it's something like that. I can't really drink bourbon whiskey in the summertime for some reason. I don't know what it I'm a seasonal guy. so yeah, it's usually, you know, whiskey bourbon or you know, an old fashioned or like a blue moon. Or something like that. And then like I said, nice pair of jeans, a hoodie. Yeah. And if usually a flannel on top of that if it's really cold or something. What do you I don't really I mean, you can't really I try not to eat too much like sugary stuff with alcohol. Yeah. Especially, you know, I don't want to say at our age, but it's something just healthconscious of. But if like I'm just sitting around and I and a kid's like, Hey, you want a s'mores? I'm like, Yeah, make me a s'more. Let me get that. Yeah. I do like marshmallows. I don't like burnt. I know some people like to put it in the fire and then wait for it to get all black, blow on it. Yeah. more of like a toasted pecan tan. Yeah. Yeah. Herbie: Get it. Shamus: But Yeah, that's pretty much about it. But that shit can wait, man. It's still the summertime. So Herbie: Seriously, man. Shamus: Keep all that shit in the Halloween store until fucking September Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: twenty second. Nobody buy anything. Herbie: Still Bud Light time. Actually, you know Shamus: I know two of our listeners, two out of the four, are definitely gonna push back on that because they are Halloween freaks. yeah. And they're gonna be like, I've already put my Halloween stuff up and Herbie: Ready? Shamus: the one actually posts every day the day after Halloween, 365 days to Halloween. Well, like a picture of Mike Myers doing something different. And every day, 365, 364, 363. I I Herbie: Ha ha ha. Shamus: I think they're like 180 days out or something. Or not even that now. She'll push back on this. If she's listening, she'll be like, I can't believe it. Herbie: Let us know man. Let us yeah, all you listeners, let us know. All four of you. Actually Shamus: Yeah, let us know Herbie: we have six now. There's that that one lady that hangs out by the lake that talks to herself. Okay. And what the hell? That that other guy that puts the shopping carts away in ShopRite. Yeah, Shamus: Okay. Herbie: well yeah, the guy from what the mysterious like Shamus: Slapped it he slapped that sticker on his trash can. He's like, I ain't got no audio device, but I'm with you. What are you putting on my house? Herbie: I'm like, it's just a stickers, man. He's like here's a coffee and a breakfast. Shamus: He's no shit, there's five of them in this trash bag. Somebody You guys been giving these out. So all right, we're gonna wrap this up. All right. wait a minute. What do you like to eat around the campfire drink? Herbie: Campfire like it's more like I would use like the frickin' the the s'mores like fork thing and like maybe grow up some sausage. S Shamus: No Herbie: yeah, sausage. yeah. Shamus: sh to me that's a summertime thing. If we're gonna do a bonfire in July, I'm gonna get a hot dog and put it on the stick and Herbie: Always ready for meats and stuff like that. I can just like eat grilled meats anytime, dude. Like meats and like pistachios. those are good. And a lot of times like autumn I'm either drinking like, you know, black and tans or cherry wheats or Guinness, anything like that. Shamus: Yeah, Guinness Guinness and cherry wheat's usually for me Christmas time. yeah, yeah. Along with scotch and whiskey and stuff. Herbie: But it's just like nice and just cranking some nice tunes and just like seriously just sitting there relaxing. Maybe like maybe some popcorn, you know. I actually got like one of those camper type popcorns. We actually it's like this big metal bucket and you put the corners in there and you yeah, so just like you know, fun stuff like that. Shamus: I guess Jiffy Pop's making a comeback the shit on the stove top. I see it everywhere now. yeah? Yeah, I bought three of I guess you could Herbie: Nice. Shamus: put that on the campfire, right? well hell yeah. Herbie: I do, I like stuff like that. Just like you know, especially now that like you start working with cooking things on the on the fire. Shamus: You know when we're gonna do that? The official day of fall, So All Herbie: I'm down. Shamus: right everybody. If you like what you heard, make sure you rate, subscribe, listen, let us know what's going on. Write in at team pork roll two five at gmail dot com. like I said, man, it's the end of the summer. We're getting there, we're putting all the stuff together for video. We're gonna go there shortly. just wanna make sure we got it right before we we rush anything. Yeah. Herbie: And actually thank you for all the new listeners, especially like Frank. Shamus: Yeah, if you're a new listener, man, thanks for thanks for being here. We love you guys. And like I said, reach out, let us know how we're doing. Even if we think we suck, man, we'll take that criticism. So Herbie: We're just gonna try to get ourselves better. Cause either way, like we said, like from day one, we're gonna keep doing this anyway. And it's cool that like I mean Seamus actually get to hang out. So I'm just gonna keep doing this and talk about shit. And hope you guys all listen and enjoy it, man. So Shamus: Yeah. Herbie: Yeah, let's keep it going. Shamus: Yeah. All right, everybody. Like I said, drop us a line. Let us know what you think. Like, rate, and subscribe. And remember to take care of the pet population. Have your pet spaded or neutered. And remember to take care of yourself, your community, and each other. Have a good night, everybody. Herbie: Rock and roll.
