Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Each weekday I bring you a short message from God's word,
- 0:11Speaker 1: the Bible to help you in your life.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And we're talking this week about the question, who needs Jesus?
- 0:22Speaker 1: It may be that uh you're listening and you don't
- 0:26Speaker 1: have a living relationship with God.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You don't know Jesus Christ personally, you are not what
- 0:33Speaker 1: Christians call saved, and you think, well, why do I
- 0:37Speaker 1: need to be saved, what do I need to be
- 0:39Speaker 1: rescued from? And we looked Monday at the fact that
- 0:43Speaker 1: we are spiritually dead.
- 0:45Speaker 1: That we don't have a living relationship with God, we're
- 0:49Speaker 1: cut off from God, and if we want a relationship
- 0:52Speaker 1: with God, we need Jesus to give us spiritual life.
- 1:00Speaker 1: We looked yesterday at the fact that that
- 1:04Speaker 1: Damaged nature that is in us that makes us spiritually
- 1:09Speaker 1: dead gives us a tendency towards living for ourselves, rebelling
- 1:16Speaker 1: against what we know God would want in our lives,
- 1:19Speaker 1: and we can't overcome those tendencies towards wrong. We desire
- 1:24Speaker 1: to live even more.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Sinful lives than we do live and though our society
- 1:31Speaker 1: restrains that to some degree we still find ourselves pulled
- 1:36Speaker 1: towards lives that are more and more destructive both to
- 1:39Speaker 1: ourselves and to the people around us we need
- 1:43Speaker 1: What only God can do for us.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Today we want to read the passage again.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It says in Ephesians chapter 2 in the Bible verses
- 1:52Speaker 1: 1 through 3, and you were dead in your trespasses
- 1:56Speaker 1: and sins in which you formerly walked according to the
- 2:01Speaker 1: course of this world, according to the prince of the
- 2:04Speaker 1: power of the air.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Of the spirit that is now working in the sons
- 2:08Speaker 1: of disobedience, among them we two all formerly lived in
- 2:13Speaker 1: the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the
- 2:17Speaker 1: flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children
- 2:20Speaker 1: of wrath even as the rest.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Well, did you catch that last thing he said?
- 2:27Speaker 1: We were by nature children of wrath even as the rest.
- 2:33Speaker 1: What does wrath mean? Well, it means the righteous anger
- 2:38Speaker 1: of God.
- 2:40Speaker 1: God justly punishing our sins against Him. And you know,
- 2:46Speaker 1: when we have disobeyed God and dishonoured Him, which we
- 2:49Speaker 1: do constantly in our lives, that disobedience puts us under
- 2:54Speaker 1: the wrath of God. And according to this verse, we
- 2:57Speaker 1: all lived by nature as children of wrath.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Uh, and that means that every one of us faces
- 3:07Speaker 1: the wrath, the righteous judgement of God. Nothing we do
- 3:12Speaker 1: can undo that. Doesn't matter how good you are for
- 3:15Speaker 1: the rest of your life, you can't undo the ways
- 3:18Speaker 1: you've broken God's moral laws, can you?
- 3:21Speaker 1: We can't escape the sentence we face when we face
- 3:26Speaker 1: God's judgement at the end of our lives. Our only
- 3:29Speaker 1: hope of escaping that judgement is if God Himself does
- 3:33Speaker 1: something for us, and He has done something for us.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Jesus Christ says.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I am the way and the truth and the life.
- 3:45Speaker 1: No one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus
- 3:51Speaker 1: Christ makes it possible for God to accept us. You
- 3:56Speaker 1: need Jesus in your life.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I'm John North.
