- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Hi, everybody.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Welcome to this broadcast of Journey Through Stuck, which is on the Divas That Care network.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: And I'll give you some information at the end about how to follow that group.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: But I'm super, super, super excited to be on today with my friend Amanda Beach.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: And we've both been going through a similar struggle kind of at different times.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: But it's how do you hear God's voice in this crazy world?
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Because there's a lot going on and we can...
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: We can stay in a beat up loop and be stressed and frustrated and feel stuck.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: And we're, you know, asking for his voice, but we go back and forth about, is he telling me to do that?
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Or am I confused or what's going on?
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: And we were just talking about that a minute ago.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: So Amanda, just share a little bit about your journey and how you were able to get unstuck.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: Well, I know last fall you and I talked a lot about this because we were both kind of in this space where we were trying to figure out what God was wanting us to do.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: And I think we've all kind of been there at some point, just feeling like you're in limbo and trying to discern the direction that you're supposed to take when you have options, right?
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Like sometimes the problem is you don't, it's not that you don't have options is that you have too many choices, too many things that are available and you need to know what, what's, where should I go?
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: What should I choose?
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: And, um, you really want to do the thing that honors God.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: And, um, uses the time and energy and the resources that he's given you wisely, right?
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: So we know that God has given us talents.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: We know that God has given us things to steward for him while we're here.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: And we also know that God has given us a mission.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: But sometimes I know I feel like I can't figure out where I'm supposed to be investing in my time and my energy in the space that God has put me.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: So that's kind of where I was last fall as I just kind of felt like I was in limbo because I was waiting, waiting for the sign, like do this.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: And then sometimes it's not, there's not a sign.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: It's little subtle nudges one way or another way.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: And so sometimes, I, and I think you did this too, like I took a step back, you know, I just, I spent a while just really reevaluating what my skills were, what my passion is, and really asking God, spending time every day asking God, where do you want me to go?
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: What do you want me to do?
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: Do you want me to use the skills and the passion that you've given me in this specific way.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: And honestly, I was like, I want to use it in this specific way.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: Is this what you want?
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: And what's really funny is God was like, no, you're not going that direction.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: And sometimes I think we want to move in a direction that seems easier for us, but...
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: Jonah did the same thing.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Jonah said, it would be easier for me to go to Tarshish on this ship than it would be to go to Nineveh.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: And, you know, it's funny because last fall I was reading through the Minor Prophets.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: And it was months later that it occurred to me that none of those people who are called by God had an easy path.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: God chose them to a very difficult mission.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: And sometimes I think, oh, you know what?
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: God wants us to, he's going to give us this time, these talents, these passions, and he's going to give us something that's just easy.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: But here's the thing.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Like when we are seeking him and he asks us to do something that's hard, there's joy.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Like joy doesn't necessarily come from the easy thing.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: It comes from obedience, right?
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: to whatever God has called us to do.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: And sometimes that thing is very, very difficult.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: And I was actually telling some of the other day, if we look through all the people in the Bible, who in the Bible was ever called to something easy?
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't think I could think of a single person.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: So God doesn't call us to live this like comfortable, push life where we are just, you know, You know, we are just doing the things that seem easy.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: He calls us to obey.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: And when we are walking in obedience, there is joy because we are walking near to him.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: So I came to all of this because I pressed into his words.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: I had to quiet all the noise down.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: There's so much noise out there.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: I think we've talked a lot about noise in this last year because we've been bombarded with the news and this is happening and this is happening and people are just getting so worked up about all of the events politically and globally with the pandemic and everything.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: But I had to quiet down the noise.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: I had to stop getting online so much And really press into his word because the Bible says that he will answer us when we seek him.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: And James says, draw near to God and he will draw near to you.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: Romans talks about renewing your mind.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: You know, there's other passages that say, you will find me, you will seek me, you will find me when you seek me with all your heart.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Um, Matthew talks about seek you first, the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: Um, James talks about wisdom and how wisdom, if we ask for wisdom, he will give it to us.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: And so I think I prayed for wisdom daily, but I also searched his word and I, and I, and I said, you know, when you, when you're praying, um, God's word is true and we have to start there.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: His promises are true.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: And I love to say, God, your word says this.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: Please show me that this is true.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: Please show me what to do with your word that says that you will give wisdom and you will give direction.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Please give me that wisdom and direction that you promised to give to those that seek you.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: And I spent a few days fasting.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: If you guys don't fast regularly, it's something that is so good to help you really focus in on that communication with God.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: It is communication with God.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: It's a nearness to God that you are saying, you, God, are more important than this thing that I crave, whether it's food or coffee or, you know, maybe you spend time...
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: you know, relaxing in the evening, watching TV.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: It's something you are saying, I'm going to stop doing that because I really need to redirect that time, that focus and that energy on God.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: So I was fasting and anytime I would feel those cravings, I knew this is, this is a reminder to seek the Lord for this specific concern that I was having for direction and for wisdom.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: And after spending a few days, just really being consistent with that, I it made me more open to hearing his guidance because he's, sometimes he does come in kind of like megaphone, you know, like this is what I want you to do.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: Stop.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: Sometimes it's so subtle and you have to just really get into a place where you could hear him.
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, you're when, because if you're a Christian, the Holy spirit lives in you and is directing you and giving you guidance.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: But if, The world is so noisy.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: If we are so caught up in secular worldview, self-help books, if we are getting advice and wisdom from people who aren't Christian, then a lot of that is going to contradict and cover up and muffle the voice of the Holy Spirit.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: So it's really important to really put down a lot of the world's noise and really press into the word of God and spend time removing things from your life that might be stifling the Holy Spirit.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: And so once I started doing that, it was a lot easier to hear where the Holy Spirit was guiding me and to hear the Holy Spirit saying, no, I know you, Amanda, you could do this.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: You have the talent and the ability to do these things, but that's not where you're supposed to go.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: it doesn't make sense.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: It might not make sense, but I actually want you to go this way and do the hard thing.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: So once you, once I thought to myself, okay, you want me to do the hard thing, but I don't know how to do the hard thing.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: It was that at that moment that God was like, exactly.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Bingo.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: You don't know how to do the hard thing.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: You need to stop thinking that you can do the thing.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: You need to stop thinking that you have all the answers.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: You need to stop relying on yourself.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: Stop telling people that you are enough and that you are worthy because God is enough.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: I am enough.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: I am the one that gives you the direction, the strength, the talents, the interests, the passion, the breath that you breathe, the movement of your body.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: All of these are gifts from your creator, Amanda.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: And stop relying on yourself.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: Stop relying on yourself and your own wisdom and your cleverness.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: Because where has that gotten you?
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: It's gotten you stuck.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: Amen to that.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: So getting unstuck means realizing that only God can move us from that place.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: And his word tells us that he gives us everything we need for life and godliness.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: And not just opening up the Bible and like reading a few passages and being like, okay, check that off my list.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: But spending time really allowing his word to soak into your soul, to soak into your spirit so that it actually changes the way you perceive the world around you.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: It changes how you interact with people.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: It changes how you pray.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: If you're not spending time in the word, if you don't know how to do that, ask us.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: We want to help you.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: We want to help you know how to read God's word and receive what he has to say for you because there is so much truth.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, there is truth.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: That's the whole thing from cover to cover.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: It's truth.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: It is peace.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: And I, you know, throughout this last year with all the chaos and stuff, I knew anytime that I stepped back and spent time in his word, I would have more peace.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: And so last fall, it was kind of just so clear that I not only needed to be in his word for the peace, but also be in his word so I could use it to talk to him because I needed to understand who he was So I could have a conversation with him so I could pray better so I could listen better.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: And so that started with being in his word and, um, using that to inform my prayers and to inform, um, my, the Holy spirit who was guiding me.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: So if you're feeling stuck, um, Reach out to God.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: Psalms is one of my favorite books of the Bible.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: If I don't know how to pray, if I don't know what to pray, David feels all the things.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: He does not hold back.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: He's in his emotions.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: He's in his feelings from one end to the other.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: He's mad.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: He's scared.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: He's sad.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: He's happy.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: He's unworthy.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: And then he's like, God's the best ever.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: I love him.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: Everything's great.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: Now everything is the worst.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: And he's a man of God's own heart.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: So God expects us to be like that.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: He loves it, right?
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: That we share it with him.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: And I know people think, oh, I have to be a certain way to get before God.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: But He already knows every hair on our head.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: He already knows every thought we think.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: He knows what we need before we ask him.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: He says, I have created you.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: I stitched you together in your mother's womb.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Do you think anything we do or think is a surprise?
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: He already knows.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he does.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: So coming to him isn't about his, like, We don't need to feel judgment and wrath because we're in Christ.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: We have grace and we have mercy that we can approach his throne in times of need.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: He wants us to come to him.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: And when we come to him and we get quiet and remove the noise that is keeping us from hearing his word, he will guide us and he will give us wisdom.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: And it's just being so intentional about doing that.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: It's hard.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: It is hard when we have things that are happening and commitments we have to get to and kids and taking care of our home and all the things that we have to get done.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: But this is the most important work.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: All work that we do is second.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: It has to come second to the most important work, which is drawing near to God, drawing near to him and reading his word and seeking him.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: So if you're feeling stuck, he wants, I mean, the thing is Proverbs, Psalms of Proverbs, it says man plans his way, but the Lord orders his steps.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: God has a plan for us.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: He has a good plan for us.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: And even if it's hard, there's so much joy when we obey.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: When we hear his voice and he says, this is where you're going.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: You're going to go this way.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: I know it looks hard.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: I know it's not the thing that you expected.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: But this is where I put you.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: This is where I placed you.
- 16:19SPEAKER_02: You have a mission.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: You have a purpose that only you are equipped.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: I've equipped you specifically for this.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: I was reading in Leviticus, and I've read Leviticus to get through it so many times because it's so
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: hard.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: Leviticus is tough.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: But there was a few passages this last time that really stuck out to me, and it was about the people that were making the decorations for the temple and the people that were skilled in musical instruments at the temple.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: And the Bible said, I gave these people these skills.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: God's saying, I gave this man this skill.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: I gave this man the skill with this musical instrument.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: I gave this man skill with metalworking and design and craftsmanship.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: And I was reading that going, God gives us specific skills on purpose.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: And the guy who had the skill for the musical instrument was not expected to make decorations.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: His job was to play that instrument.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: That's what he was supposed to do.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: And the guy that was skilled in metalworking wasn't expected to go pick up an instrument and go play that.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: God said, I have given this man a specific skill and a purpose to serve me here in this temple.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: And he does that for us.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: He didn't make this on accident.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: He made each of us completely unique with a unique personality, gifts, talents, and skills on purpose that only we have.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: And he can use these.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: And even if it's not what we expected, when we listen to him and he guides us to where he wants us to be, there's so much joy.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: There's so much joy.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: So...
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: that that's where i ended up and it was there's tears there were tears yeah absolutely yep been there when i when i say oh okay but i wanna no no no amanda
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: no no right
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: i
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: heard several things that i that were consistent in in my struggle and it was first off you want to walk in your office and see a to-do list from God, like do this.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, I'm going to sit here until you tell me what to do.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: And he's like, I already told you what to do.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: I gave you my word.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: So it's by going to the word and really leaning into it and seeking it for answers and seeing what it says.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Cause he gave us, that's our instruction manual for life.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: Our spirits are going to make it out of this world.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: And that is it.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: The rest of this place is going away.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: A lot of people don't want to believe it, but it's true.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: It's written down.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: So it's like studying that and lean it in and, And it's neat because if you look at every single person in the Bible, they had a skill, which is what you just hit on.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: Moses, he was supposed to lead the people.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: He didn't want to do it, right?
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: He's out there in the desert.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: He's like, I'm out here.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: It is quiet.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: I totally, I think of Moses all the time.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I was totally out in the desert.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Like, can you just leave me alone?
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Let me garden, listen to the Bible, keep it to myself.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: He's like, no, you need to get out.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: You got to present.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: You got to do what I'm telling you.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, but I don't know.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: I don't like to do something unless I can see to the end.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: but he doesn't let us see to the end.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: You got to take one step and then he'll take nine, right?
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: And then you got to take another step and he'll take another nine and you get the joy and you feel like you're walking with them.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: But then that little, like that pull wants to pull us away or like we're praying and it wants to come in and like make us think about the 15 things we have on our to-do list.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: And so it's just really being super fastidious.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: I heard you saying that, right?
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Super fastidious and saying, no, quiet that voice.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: God, can you help me?
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Your word says that you're going to help me.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Your word says this.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: How should I pray?
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: And if you ask him, he'll answer the question.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: It's when I look at it like a to-do list, like a checklist.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, I read the Bible and now I've prayed.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Okay, now the rest of my day is going to go well, but it doesn't go well.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: That's not how it works.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: So beautiful.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: I love your story.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Touched my heart.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: So for anybody out there, if you're struggling with how to read, how to start, how to pray, You just even want to know, like, where would you start reading the Bible?
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Please reach out to us.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: We just really, really want to share God's light and love.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: And this world is too stressful and too frustrating to go through it alone and without the Father who knows your path.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: And he gave you these skills that you can actually tap into, and he can bring you peace that you will never, ever understand.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Like, when stuff's going crazy in the world, you're like, God has it, and there's a kingdom in the future, and I trust him.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: It's just amazing.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Anything else?
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: No, I'm just so amazed that we have access to this.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: That's just the most incredible thing is we go to self-help books and we listen to podcasts and we read blogs and trying to find the answers.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: But we have access to the God of the universe.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: I mean,
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Yep, exactly.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: And he says, I want to give you wisdom.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: I want to give you my wisdom from above, not earthly wisdom.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: It's just so cool.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: It's really cool.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: That's funny.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: Cause I just thought about that this morning as I was praying and I, I start like the Lord's prayer and I'm like, Oh, hallowed be thy name.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: If you just think about some of the Psalms that are praising God, I'm just like, wow.
- 22:10UNKNOWN: And,
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: And then I get to, you know, and then I'm thinking about the kingdom and then I'm getting the things I'm asking for.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: My brain starts going to-do list, to-do list.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, whoa, you're in the throne room.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: Calm down, pipe down.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: It's so, it's constant.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: And to
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: redirect our mind, you know, to take control of those thoughts and to replace them with truth.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: If we're not in the word and we don't know what the Bible says, it's going to be a lot harder to replace those false thoughts and correct and to hear, you know, when I'm out and I hear something and I can say that's not of the Lord.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: That does not, that's not what scripture teaches.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: That's not what the Bible says.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: In
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: order to have that kind of discernment, we have to know what the Bible says.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: So, but he says, I'm giving this to you so that you know me.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: How cool is it?
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: If I didn't know that the Bible said that he would give me wisdom, I would be looking all these other places for it.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: But I know the Bible says, God says, come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, I will give you rest.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: When you need wisdom, I'm going to give it to you.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: If you need peace, I'm going to give it to you.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: The Bible says, has all these promises.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: And I'm so thankful that we have access to it.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: It's just, it's so incredible.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, that was just beautiful.
