- 0:48SPEAKER_11: 211.
- 0:48SPEAKER_11: We have an interview today.
- 0:50SPEAKER_11: We'll talk about that in a second.
- 0:52SPEAKER_11: A lot of stuff to get to, but first I want to show you what I'm doing over here.
- 0:56SPEAKER_14: Yes, I saw I saw that.
- 0:57SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 0:57SPEAKER_14: You you have wood and pedals.
- 1:00SPEAKER_11: I do.
- 1:01SPEAKER_11: I have wood.
- 1:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you have to do that.
- 1:04SPEAKER_14: We're going to end it right there.
- 1:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we are.
- 1:06SPEAKER_11: No, I am making a new pedal board because we have a new band.
- 1:09SPEAKER_14: Yes, we do.
- 1:10SPEAKER_11: Well, well, we have the idea of a new band.
- 1:13SPEAKER_11: We've never played yet together.
- 1:16SPEAKER_14: Well, that's not true.
- 1:16SPEAKER_14: But that's well, we have played together.
- 1:18SPEAKER_14: We have played together.
- 1:19SPEAKER_14: We just haven't played as a country band.
- 1:20SPEAKER_11: We should we should detail this.
- 1:22SPEAKER_11: So we're just we're just starting bands, willy-nilly.
- 1:26SPEAKER_14: Yeah, why not?
- 1:27SPEAKER_14: What the heck?
- 1:28SPEAKER_14: Let's just let's just let's let's start a band for every genre.
- 1:33SPEAKER_14: For every genre.
- 1:35SPEAKER_11: So, but when you play with these guys that we play with, it it's so fun to play with.
- 1:40SPEAKER_11: You don't want to not play with them.
- 1:41SPEAKER_14: Exactly.
- 1:42SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:42SPEAKER_14: You don't you don't want to be not included.
- 1:44SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 1:44SPEAKER_14: You know what I mean?
- 1:45SPEAKER_14: You just want to.
- 1:46SPEAKER_11: And we're trying to cover all the gamuts.
- 1:49SPEAKER_11: So, I mean, Star City Syndicate uh is our big band, and we with the horns and everything.
- 1:54SPEAKER_11: We obviously we play a little bit of everything.
- 1:56SPEAKER_11: Um old pop music, Motown, oldies, you know, things like that.
- 2:01SPEAKER_11: But the core, the core part of that band, the rhythm section, you and I, uh, Joel on guitar, um, and now uh well, Joel on guitar.
- 2:13SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 2:13SPEAKER_11: So we became Skinny Elvis.
- 2:15SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 2:16SPEAKER_11: And we are doing 90s rock.
- 2:19SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 2:19SPEAKER_11: Which is great fun.
- 2:21SPEAKER_14: It is fun.
- 2:22SPEAKER_11: Wicked fun.
- 2:23SPEAKER_11: Well, we decided that because the Star City Syndicate had our last show of the season.
- 2:27SPEAKER_11: So we're not gonna play play anymore.
- 2:29SPEAKER_11: We're gonna rehearse here and there, but we're not gonna play much anymore until next summer.
- 2:35SPEAKER_11: So Skinny Elvis could get gigs if we wanted to.
- 2:39SPEAKER_11: Um we do.
- 2:40SPEAKER_11: 90s rock.
- 2:41SPEAKER_11: 90s rock.
- 2:43SPEAKER_11: Um, so we figured, what the heck?
- 2:46SPEAKER_11: Let's start a 90s country band.
- 2:49SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 2:49SPEAKER_11: So we have done that with the same people that are in Skinny Elvis, plus two more.
- 2:55SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 2:56SPEAKER_11: Um, Sarah, our get our piano player from uh Star City Syndicate, she's gonna join us in this country.
- 3:02SPEAKER_14: Which is really funny.
- 3:03SPEAKER_11: It is funny.
- 3:04SPEAKER_14: Because when we talk to her about it on Saturday, she's like, I don't know.
- 3:07SPEAKER_14: This is one more thing.
- 3:09SPEAKER_11: Well, it was the way she said it because she is incredibly busy.
- 3:13SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, she has.
- 3:13SPEAKER_11: You know, she's she's a music teacher, and we're she but she teaches K through 12.
- 3:17SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 3:18SPEAKER_11: And does all the the after school things as well.
- 3:21SPEAKER_11: She's got two kids.
- 3:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 3:22SPEAKER_11: And she's doing she has to put up with Sean.
- 3:24SPEAKER_11: She has to put up with Sean.
- 3:26SPEAKER_11: That poor guy.
- 3:27SPEAKER_11: I didn't realize.
- 3:28SPEAKER_11: We treat Sean like uh and I told I told John Simonoff this, and Sean was there too.
- 3:35SPEAKER_11: Um Sean uh John Simonoff treats Sean like um Michael on the office treats Dwight.
- 3:45SPEAKER_11: No, the accountant.
- 3:47SPEAKER_11: Oh, Toby.
- 3:48SPEAKER_11: HR.
- 3:49SPEAKER_11: The HR guy, Toby.
- 3:50SPEAKER_11: Toby.
- 3:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 3:51SPEAKER_14: Well, it was funny because he posted something, and he was like, 17 of my best friends, and Sean did.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: I was like, that's what I mean.
- 4:00SPEAKER_11: Anyway, uh, she's also she's doing the musical for Prescle.
- 4:04SPEAKER_11: So she's got a lot going on.
- 4:05SPEAKER_11: Anyway, I walked up to her and I said, So um we're starting a 90s country band, and they told me to ask you, um, we need a piano player, and she says, I love 90s country.
- 4:17SPEAKER_11: She said she said it really quietly.
- 4:19SPEAKER_11: She's like, Oh, you're killing me, you're killing me, Brian.
- 4:21SPEAKER_11: You're killing me.
- 4:23SPEAKER_11: And then it took a little prodding, but she she said yes, so she's gonna be our piano player.
- 4:28SPEAKER_11: Nice.
- 4:28SPEAKER_11: Uh in this country band.
- 4:30SPEAKER_11: And Chris Morton's wife, yeah.
- 4:32SPEAKER_11: Jordan is gonna sing with us.
- 4:33SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 4:34SPEAKER_11: Um I'm very excited.
- 4:35SPEAKER_11: So uh I want to say the seed of the idea was hers, but I don't think it is.
- 4:40SPEAKER_11: The seed uh or the the the push for this band was from her.
- 4:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 4:46SPEAKER_11: I think it's safe to say, right?
- 4:48SPEAKER_14: Yeah, because I think I think she brought it up and he was like, Well, I'll Well, we wanted to do that anyway.
- 4:54SPEAKER_14: Yeah, we were talking about it.
- 4:55SPEAKER_11: Before Jordan was even involved.
- 4:56SPEAKER_14: Yeah, he he he probably mentioned it to her, and then she was like, Ooh, I knew.
- 5:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:02SPEAKER_11: Make this happen.
- 5:03SPEAKER_11: Well, I think uh to be honest, I think it was two separate things.
- 5:06SPEAKER_11: Oh, okay.
- 5:06SPEAKER_11: I think the way it went down is because originally Shane, our bass player, yeah from Comic Crossing, wanted to start a nineties band.
- 5:14SPEAKER_11: But it's so difficult because he's so far away.
- 5:16SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 5:17SPEAKER_11: You know, but this we had the idea to start this 90s country band.
- 5:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 5:21SPEAKER_11: And because we th I think it will kill up here.
- 5:24SPEAKER_11: I think I think it's gonna go over with that.
- 5:25SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I mentioned it to somebody else and because they were surprised I was listening to country music.
- 5:30SPEAKER_11: It's like I have to learn all this stuff.
- 5:32SPEAKER_14: And I was like, I gotta learn all this stuff, man.
- 5:34SPEAKER_14: He's like, why?
- 5:34SPEAKER_14: He's like, Well, I wasn't busy enough, so I decided I was gonna join a country band.
- 5:39SPEAKER_14: And he's like, What?
- 5:42SPEAKER_14: Yeah, so uh, but then then we had mentioned I was he was he was even more surprised when I told him I was playing guitar in the country band.
- 5:50SPEAKER_14: He was like, What?
- 5:53SPEAKER_11: So uh and then we had talked about this country band.
- 5:57SPEAKER_11: I think I think Jordan's Jordan and her mom actually were like, You guys need to do a 90s country.
- 6:02SPEAKER_11: Let me know when you do a 90s country band, and then I'll get you know interested in blah blah blah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_11: And so they had their own thing, and then we put the two ideas together, and that's it.
- 6:11SPEAKER_14: You got your chocolate and my peanut butter, right?
- 6:13SPEAKER_11: You got your peanut butter and my chocolate.
- 6:15SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 6:16SPEAKER_11: Um so can we say should we say the name of the band?
- 6:19SPEAKER_14: I think it's great, yes.
- 6:21SPEAKER_14: So I think it's a great name.
- 6:22SPEAKER_11: It's so funny.
- 6:23SPEAKER_11: Uh once again, I have named the band.
- 6:25SPEAKER_14: Well, you're very good at it.
- 6:27SPEAKER_11: Um I've named Star City Syndicate, which I found out the other day.
- 6:31SPEAKER_11: My wife doesn't really like that name.
- 6:33SPEAKER_11: She says it's too long.
- 6:35SPEAKER_11: I was like, well, people call it the Syndicate anyway.
- 6:37SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I I think if we had just called it the Syndicate, it would have been really cooler.
- 6:41SPEAKER_14: But then then you, you know, there's the connotations of being part of the Chicago band.
- 6:45SPEAKER_11: Right, exactly.
- 6:46SPEAKER_14: So, you know, I mean that's you know, you so maybe Star City, maybe SC Syndicate, right?
- 6:51SPEAKER_14: I don't know.
- 6:51SPEAKER_11: Something.
- 6:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah, something, I don't know.
- 6:53SPEAKER_11: Uh uh I named Skinny Elvis.
- 6:55SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 6:55SPEAKER_11: Um, and so this new band, the central location, well not central, but a common location uh for both the the members of the rhythm section, John and Chris and Jordan.
- 7:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 7:09SPEAKER_11: Uh and uh Joel Hall uh lives in Ashland.
- 7:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah and we are in Prescott, so kind of a central location, but not really, but kind of is Haystack Mountain.
- 7:20SPEAKER_14: Correct.
- 7:20SPEAKER_11: So we thought of calling the band Haystack Union.
- 7:24SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 7:25SPEAKER_11: And we call it Hey You for short.
- 7:27SPEAKER_13: Hey you, hey you, hey you so I think it's it's growing on me.
- 7:31SPEAKER_11: Haystack Union.
- 7:32SPEAKER_11: I kind of kinda dig it.
- 7:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:34SPEAKER_11: But um yeah, so we're gonna do some some Brooks and Dunn and Jodie Messina.
- 7:39SPEAKER_11: Jody Messina, oh yeah, Shania Twain.
- 7:42SPEAKER_11: So that's what this is.
- 7:43SPEAKER_11: I didn't mean to get off track, but yes, I'm I'm I'm building a country pedal board.
- 7:48SPEAKER_14: Well, that's good because I'm buying a new guitar.
- 7:50SPEAKER_11: Yes, you are, and I saw a picture of it.
- 7:52SPEAKER_14: I'm very excited about it.
- 7:53SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 7:54SPEAKER_14: Because I, you know, I deserve it.
- 7:56SPEAKER_11: Yes, you do.
- 7:56SPEAKER_14: Because I'm an amazing guitar player.
- 7:58SPEAKER_11: You will be.
- 7:59SPEAKER_11: You said you know seven chords, right?
- 8:01SPEAKER_11: Maybe we're playing country music.
- 8:02SPEAKER_11: There's only three.
- 8:04SPEAKER_14: All right then.
- 8:05SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 8:05SPEAKER_14: Let's start a punk band next.
- 8:08SPEAKER_11: I've I'm kidding, of course, there's more than three chords in country music.
- 8:12SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 8:12SPEAKER_14: Then I'm in trouble.
- 8:13SPEAKER_11: But I will tell you, I was listening because they sent us a Spotify playlist.
- 8:16SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 8:17SPEAKER_11: I will tell you, there are some intricate, complicated uh acoustic strumming patterns.
- 8:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah, guess what?
- 8:24SPEAKER_14: Guess who's not gonna be doing that?
- 8:26SPEAKER_11: Not you're not going to be doing that?
- 8:28SPEAKER_14: I'm gonna attempt it.
- 8:30SPEAKER_14: It's not gonna happen.
- 8:31SPEAKER_14: Well, why not?
- 8:31SPEAKER_14: But I'll attempt it.
- 8:32SPEAKER_14: I because I suck at guitar.
- 8:35SPEAKER_14: Well, that's why I that's why I said I was I was willing to play acoustic guitar because I was pretty sure I wouldn't have to plug in.
- 8:44SPEAKER_14: I was like, yeah, it's I'll play guitar.
- 8:47SPEAKER_14: No problem, man.
- 8:48SPEAKER_14: It's necessary.
- 8:49SPEAKER_14: I know it's necessary.
- 8:50SPEAKER_14: We need it, but it's not gonna be very good.
- 8:53SPEAKER_14: I'm just warning y'all right now.
- 8:55SPEAKER_11: I have no idea.
- 8:56SPEAKER_14: I do know.
- 8:56SPEAKER_14: I know what I'm saying.
- 8:59SPEAKER_14: I know my guitar capabilities, and they are less than 10%.
- 9:03SPEAKER_11: Uh, I think you don't give yourself enough credit.
- 9:05SPEAKER_14: Okay, 25.
- 9:08SPEAKER_11: Anyway, I'm excited about it.
- 9:10SPEAKER_11: I think it's gonna be fun.
- 9:11SPEAKER_11: It's gonna be really fun.
- 9:12SPEAKER_11: We uh we have our work cut out for us.
- 9:13SPEAKER_11: I've been listening to the I haven't sat down with a guitar and and tried to play any of those parts yet.
- 9:18SPEAKER_14: No, me neither.
- 9:18SPEAKER_11: But it's gonna be because I don't have the guitar yet.
- 9:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 9:21SPEAKER_14: So it's a little hard.
- 9:22SPEAKER_14: Um but I'm looking forward to it.
- 9:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I am too.
- 9:24SPEAKER_11: I think it's gonna be fun.
- 9:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 9:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_11: Um, so let's see, what else to talk about?
- 9:27SPEAKER_11: We do have an interview today.
- 9:29SPEAKER_11: Uh let's yeah, before we because let's just say what it is.
- 9:34SPEAKER_11: So we had a young lady, remember we had um the what was the name of the band?
- 9:40SPEAKER_11: The Pines.
- 9:40SPEAKER_11: The Pines The Pines, um Bows and Bob's daughter reached out to us and granddaughter.
- 9:47SPEAKER_11: Um is it granddaughter?
- 9:49SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 9:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's right.
- 9:51SPEAKER_11: It is yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_14: Um we should know who we're interviewing today.
- 9:58SPEAKER_11: Yes, this is true.
- 9:59SPEAKER_11: This is yeah, it is his granddaughter, and I knew that too.
- 10:02SPEAKER_11: Um anyway.
- 10:04SPEAKER_11: So she's probably not with him.
- 10:07SPEAKER_14: I have no idea, man.
- 10:08SPEAKER_14: I don't I don't know what the uh he gave me her number.
- 10:12SPEAKER_11: Maybe I will text her.
- 10:14SPEAKER_11: Um yeah, I'll text her.
- 10:17SPEAKER_11: Because um she listens to our podcast and we had the Pines uh uh we featured the Pines music.
- 10:25SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 10:25SPEAKER_11: Um to per her request.
- 10:28SPEAKER_11: And we really liked it.
- 10:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_11: Um they were they were very good.
- 10:32SPEAKER_11: Very good.
- 10:33SPEAKER_14: Very good.
- 10:34SPEAKER_11: Um let me see if I can text her.
- 10:37SPEAKER_11: Uh don't say her number out loud.
- 10:42SPEAKER_11: That would be that would be wrong.
- 10:44SPEAKER_14: Five, five, five.
- 10:49SPEAKER_11: Uh okay, so let's see.
- 10:52SPEAKER_11: Hi.
- 10:53SPEAKER_11: Ilsa?
- 10:55SPEAKER_14: This is a complete stranger.
- 10:58SPEAKER_11: Do zoom instead of a phone or phone interview.
- 11:07SPEAKER_14: Please use a phone.
- 11:11SPEAKER_11: Um is not working.
- 11:18SPEAKER_14: Um and this And by not working, we mean non-existent.
- 11:22SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 11:22SPEAKER_14: I can't find it.
- 11:23SPEAKER_14: I mean we don't know where it is.
- 11:25SPEAKER_14: No! Technically, it's not working.
- 11:30SPEAKER_11: Um so yeah.
- 11:35SPEAKER_11: So she she's been wanting to be on the podcast with us.
- 11:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_11: And you know, she's she's she's a kid.
- 11:41SPEAKER_11: You know, and 13.
- 11:43SPEAKER_11: Something like that.
- 11:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 11:44SPEAKER_11: But uh Bounce and Bob, of course.
- 11:46SPEAKER_11: We we love Bounce and Bob.
- 11:48SPEAKER_11: We have a long history with Bounce and Bob.
- 11:50SPEAKER_11: So sure we do.
- 11:51SPEAKER_11: And um Going back decades.
- 11:53SPEAKER_11: We haven't had a guest on for a while, so we said, Oh, what the heck?
- 11:56SPEAKER_14: I don't remember the last time we had a guest on.
- 11:58SPEAKER_14: Oh, it was Chris.
- 11:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 11:59SPEAKER_14: Uh our 200th uh episode.
- 12:01SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 12:01SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it was Chris and uh uh um And it was terrible because Chris's Oh and Bob.
- 12:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah, Chris's reception.
- 12:07SPEAKER_14: Yeah, they kept everybody kept uh cutting out.
- 12:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 12:09SPEAKER_11: But now I have high speed internet.
- 12:10SPEAKER_14: So we we could uh we could actually uh we could invite the whole world.
- 12:16unknown: Right.
- 12:17SPEAKER_14: Um if you're listening in Zimbabwe, you can jump on.
- 12:20SPEAKER_11: So we're gonna talk about uh how she went as Aussie for Halloween.
- 12:25SPEAKER_11: I'm sure she's gonna talk about the pines.
- 12:27SPEAKER_11: I hope so.
- 12:28SPEAKER_11: We'll talk about how she got into them and and things like that.
- 12:30SPEAKER_11: Just kind of a laid-back conversation with the with a kid.
- 12:33SPEAKER_11: Kind of put our pulse on the the It'll be nice to talk to somebody who's not a Swifty.
- 12:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah, oh gosh, yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_11: Uh that's so funny because I had my my um second grade uh class in this morning and I asked him, you know, who what artists do you like?
- 12:52SPEAKER_11: Who almost all of them.
- 12:53SPEAKER_11: Taylor's wife.
- 12:54SPEAKER_11: Taylor Swift.
- 12:54SPEAKER_11: Ah, Taylor's Taylor's wife, Taylor Swift.
- 12:56SPEAKER_11: Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor's wife.
- 12:59SPEAKER_14: I'm just waiting for Travis Kelsey to uh get it done by her.
- 13:02SPEAKER_11: Well, you know, that was pre-planned.
- 13:04SPEAKER_14: What?
- 13:04SPEAKER_11: Did you read about that?
- 13:05SPEAKER_11: No.
- 13:06SPEAKER_11: Somebody leaked a press release that they they have a plan to to announce their breakup?
- 13:14SPEAKER_11: So it's like all planned out, supposedly.
- 13:16SPEAKER_11: Oh, she says yeah, sure.
- 13:18SPEAKER_14: Well, that explains the haircut.
- 13:21SPEAKER_14: Have you seen him?
- 13:21SPEAKER_11: No.
- 13:22SPEAKER_14: Oh, it's terrible.
- 13:23SPEAKER_14: He looks like cousin, uh, Uncle Uncle Rico from uh Napoleon Dynamite.
- 13:28SPEAKER_11: Uh is there so she she responded.
- 13:32SPEAKER_11: An email.
- 13:33SPEAKER_11: I can send email.
- 13:40SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 13:41SPEAKER_11: Uh so hopefully that'll that'll work out.
- 13:43SPEAKER_11: So we're gonna talk to Ilsa here pretty soon.
- 13:45SPEAKER_11: Uh in the meantime, I wanted to talk about a couple of things.
- 13:49SPEAKER_11: Jerry Cantrell from uh Alice and Chains has released another solo album.
- 13:54SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 13:55SPEAKER_11: And we have a song to preview.
- 13:58SPEAKER_11: This is called After Glow.
- 14:01SPEAKER_11: Let me say that again.

- 16:22SPEAKER_11: I saw that.
- 16:23SPEAKER_11: I read that.
- 16:23SPEAKER_14: Because Chester was a victim of sexual abuse as a child.

- 30:07SPEAKER_15: I'm in Pennsylvania.
- 30:08SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 30:09SPEAKER_11: So uh you don't have like a we have a harvest up here.
- 30:13SPEAKER_15: I don't know if your grandfather told you about Yeah, he told me about the potato fest stuff happens.
- 30:17SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah.
- 30:17SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 30:18SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so so we actually our high school went in in mid-August.
- 30:25SPEAKER_11: And and so they've been in there for a few weeks, but the the rest of the schools just went in like last week.
- 30:32SPEAKER_11: Uh and then the high school's gonna get out for three weeks in in a little while for harvest.
- 30:38SPEAKER_11: So that's kind of it's kind of you know a neat thing.
- 30:40SPEAKER_11: But you you've been in for what two weeks, three weeks?
- 30:43SPEAKER_15: Uh three or four weeks, yeah.
- 30:44SPEAKER_11: Three or four weeks.
- 30:45SPEAKER_11: Awesome.
- 30:46SPEAKER_11: Awesome.
- 30:47SPEAKER_11: Um, all right.
- 30:48SPEAKER_14: So we are oh, you gotta tell us though, Elsa.
- 30:52SPEAKER_14: You gotta tell us what how how is it having we call him bouncing Bob.
- 30:59SPEAKER_14: You gotta, you gotta how what's he like as a grandfather?
- 31:03SPEAKER_15: He's funny and he's like super nice.
- 31:06SPEAKER_15: Um he was the guy, he was the person that got me into left me to think of his place.
- 31:11SPEAKER_11: So so yeah, so thumbs up, right?
- 31:13SPEAKER_11: Okay, all right.
- 31:14SPEAKER_11: So that was one of the things that we we talked about before we contacted you because we said that it's so nice to hear from or talk to a uh person your age, a teenager, who is not into Taylor Swift.
- 31:29SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 31:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:36SPEAKER_11: And there's nothing, not that there's anything wrong with Taylor Swift.
- 31:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but it's just it seems like she is taking over the world and it's kind of driving us crazy.
- 31:45unknown: Yeah.
- 31:47SPEAKER_15: I have like 10 nominations for the VMAs tomorrow, so do they still do VMAs?
- 31:52SPEAKER_11: There's no videos.
- 31:53SPEAKER_15: They're still doing those.
- 31:55SPEAKER_14: MTV doesn't even show videos, do they?
- 31:57SPEAKER_14: I didn't think they did that.
- 31:58SPEAKER_14: Well, apparently they're still doing the awards, so so I don't know.
- 32:00SPEAKER_14: Whatever.
- 32:01SPEAKER_14: Yeah, whatever.
- 32:02SPEAKER_14: She can have all those things, you know.
- 32:04SPEAKER_14: She's still whatever.
- 32:05SPEAKER_14: I'm not gonna say it.
- 32:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:06SPEAKER_11: So no, see, I did see I took my two oldest to see Taylor Swift years ago, like 2000, I don't know, 10, 11, or she was still country then.
- 32:16SPEAKER_11: She was well, no, no.
- 32:17SPEAKER_11: She this was on her fearless tour, whatever that was.
- 32:20SPEAKER_11: And she was great.
- 32:22SPEAKER_11: She did a great job in concert, and she I think she deserves everything she's got.
- 32:25SPEAKER_14: Yes, but you also hit a deer on the way there, so that should have been a sign.
- 32:28SPEAKER_14: That was a sign from God.
- 32:29SPEAKER_14: It was a moose.
- 32:30SPEAKER_14: Oh, it was a moose.
- 32:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:31SPEAKER_11: It was a moose.
- 32:32SPEAKER_11: Um, I do think she deserves everything.
- 32:34SPEAKER_11: I'm just sick of her.
- 32:35SPEAKER_11: I'm sorry.
- 32:36SPEAKER_11: Um I just really am.
- 32:37SPEAKER_11: You know, I'm a I'm a football fan too.
- 32:39SPEAKER_11: Can't watch football anymore without talking about Taylor Swift.
- 32:43SPEAKER_15: I know.
- 32:43SPEAKER_15: My my grandparents on my mother's side.
- 32:46SPEAKER_11: She's she's not bothering us.
- 32:48SPEAKER_11: Um she's probably bothering you, but she's not bothering us.
- 32:52SPEAKER_15: But anyways, I my whole family on my mom's side likes the Steelers and like Bob's side of the family, my dad's side likes Patriots, there's a whole divine.
- 33:03SPEAKER_14: Oh, yeah, that makes sense.
- 33:05SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 33:09SPEAKER_14: So Ilsa, tell us how you got you You said your grandfather got you into rock and roll.
- 33:14SPEAKER_14: What what is it about that what is it about rock and roll that really, you know, get you, you know, get you excited about it?
- 33:21SPEAKER_15: I just like it because it's different, and you know, I didn't I didn't find any fundamentals Do you really?
- 33:28SPEAKER_15: I do.
- 33:28SPEAKER_15: People call me emo, they call me goth, they call me weird, they call me all these sorts of stuff, and I'm like, oh, you sound all these things more than wrong.
- 33:38SPEAKER_11: You know, you know, um these what what emo and goth uh today when we were in school translated meant cool.
- 33:49SPEAKER_11: Uh so just take that with you and you can do whatever you want with it.
- 33:52SPEAKER_11: That's true.
- 33:53SPEAKER_11: Because, you know, we were into rock music when we were in high school, and and you know, I I think people looked at us as weird for other reasons, but mostly because we are weird.
- 34:05SPEAKER_11: So But uh yeah, no, I think it's I think it's awesome that uh you're such a big rock fan.
- 34:11SPEAKER_11: Um I know you're you're an Aussie fan because you went as Aussie for Halloween, right?
- 34:16SPEAKER_11: How did that come about?
- 34:17SPEAKER_16: If um I was thinking about I was watching these videos of Aussie Ozzy and my video, someone is being in my room and taking my bees.
- 34:28SPEAKER_15: My room.
- 34:30SPEAKER_15: I watched that video 24-7.
- 34:33SPEAKER_15: That was my favorite Aussie video ever, and I watched it on YouTube about 25 today.
- 34:38SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 34:40SPEAKER_15: So I was like, I was on my way to the answer to my Nana, and I was thinking about who I would be to find a week because I don't do another one before.
- 34:49SPEAKER_15: So I was like, what can I do if I can be funny and I can I look like And I it popped in my head, oh I can be Aussie.
- 34:56SPEAKER_15: I've got the hair, I have really like wavy hair, and I I have the lot of animals, so I was like, yeah, I'm not just gonna do that because how did it go over?
- 35:08SPEAKER_11: Did people like like did you go like I don't know if you could still go trick-or-treating at your age?
- 35:13SPEAKER_11: About twelve people got it, not just well, we got it, Elsa, because when when it was spot on.
- 35:24SPEAKER_11: Bob told us that you went as Aussie.
- 35:26SPEAKER_11: We're like, okay, she's got street cred in our book.
- 35:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 35:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that was cool.
- 35:30SPEAKER_11: Alright, so I know before we get to talking about your favorite band, um, can we uh ask maybe can you name like I don't know, four or five four or five other bands that you listen to that you really dig?
- 35:46SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 35:47SPEAKER_15: I I know these off the top of my head.
- 35:49SPEAKER_15: So we have Motley Crew, System of it down, corn, lead basket, and oh poison.
- 36:00SPEAKER_11: Poison.
- 36:02SPEAKER_11: Okay, so so you you run the gamut.
- 36:04SPEAKER_11: So we got two hair bands, yeah, right?
- 36:06SPEAKER_11: Motley Crue and Poison.
- 36:08SPEAKER_11: And then you got like the 90s um modern rock, system of a down, limb biscuit, and what was the other one?
- 36:15SPEAKER_10: Corn corn.
- 36:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah, wow.
- 36:18SPEAKER_14: Yeah, that's yeah, you you are you are you are freaking killing it, Alison.
- 36:23SPEAKER_14: That is awesome.
- 36:24SPEAKER_11: All right, so uh we were not kidding when we said um it was uh I don't know, it was Bob actually that asked us to to kind of feature the pines or talk about the pines.
- 36:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and you know, we we get that every once in a while.
- 36:38SPEAKER_11: Uh and we we kind of don't really buy into it.
- 36:41SPEAKER_11: Um but since it was Bouncing Bob, we looked into it and we and we we dug them.
- 36:48SPEAKER_11: I mean, they they're on the right track.
- 36:51SPEAKER_11: I mean, they were the song the two songs that we heard uh were kick butt.
- 36:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:56SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 36:57SPEAKER_11: So tell us how you um discovered them, tell us how you got involved with them and and any cool experiences you had.
- 37:06SPEAKER_15: Um, so this was summer 2023.
- 37:10SPEAKER_15: I was at the fair, like the local fair I was at in Molly's day, where I'm from.
- 37:16SPEAKER_15: And I was hanging out with my friend, my guy friend, um, he's about two years older than me.
- 37:22SPEAKER_15: And I was looking over in the pavilion that they had, and I was like, oh, they have a metal band playing.
- 37:29SPEAKER_15: Cool.
- 37:30SPEAKER_15: I saw Logan's long curly hair, and I was like, So um, as the night went over, um once we were like hanging out near the like pavilion, I was like, they are a really good band because they were playing the Beastie bands, um the Beatles, they were playing a lot of the bands that my family likes and that I like.
- 37:54SPEAKER_15: So after that, I was thinking, how like what is this?
- 37:59SPEAKER_15: What who are these people?
- 38:01SPEAKER_15: So I asked my mom who they were, and she said because my mom used to substitute teach for them because they uh the guitarists, bassists, and drummer all went to Central.
- 38:13SPEAKER_15: My mom worked at that school, right?
- 38:15SPEAKER_15: Where you go, so my mom knew who they were, and she knew who the lead singer was, so they already knew who my mom was.
- 38:23SPEAKER_15: So I was like, Do you know her name?
- 38:27SPEAKER_15: Alex and Ben.
- 38:28SPEAKER_15: And I was like, Cool.
- 38:29SPEAKER_11: So they're not they're uh they're kind of fresh out of school, right?
- 38:34SPEAKER_11: They're they're still really young.
- 38:36SPEAKER_15: Yeah, they just graduated.
- 38:38SPEAKER_11: Right, that's what I thought.
- 38:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:40SPEAKER_11: So you you now how did how did they let's see?
- 38:43SPEAKER_11: Uh I know they have original music.
- 38:46SPEAKER_11: How did you discover that they had original music?
- 38:49SPEAKER_15: Um, I followed their TikTok page and I was scrolling through their videos, and I saw that they just posted a new song, and I was like, oh my gosh, I've got to check this out.
- 38:58SPEAKER_15: So I lost Spotify and Sister and I saved it into my playlist, and I listened to it about five times on the bus that morning.
- 39:06SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 39:06SPEAKER_11: That's awesome.
- 39:08SPEAKER_11: And so so I've heard through the grapevine, your grandfather, that uh you played with them.
- 39:17SPEAKER_11: You played like on stage with them four times.
- 39:20SPEAKER_11: So when are you gonna start uh like running their fan club?
- 39:25SPEAKER_15: Um probably in about the next two years.
- 39:29SPEAKER_11: So so did they invite you up on stage?
- 39:31SPEAKER_11: Is that how that happened?
- 39:33SPEAKER_15: The first time I was reluctant to do it, but Bob was pointing at me to do it.
- 39:38SPEAKER_05: Of course he was.
- 39:39SPEAKER_05: Of course he was.
- 39:42SPEAKER_15: And then Logan, the guitarist, saw me, and then he was like, I'm up.
- 39:47SPEAKER_15: And I was like, oh no, I'm talking.
- 39:50SPEAKER_15: And I did that's I felt so confident doing it.
- 39:55SPEAKER_15: And I personally I felt like I was a part of my play.
- 40:00SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 40:01SPEAKER_11: Nice, yeah.
- 40:03SPEAKER_11: It's kind of an addicting feeling, isn't it?
- 40:05SPEAKER_11: Being up on stage and and and playing with a bunch of people that uh that you really dig.
- 40:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah, we we know exactly how that is.
- 40:11SPEAKER_11: We get that.
- 40:12SPEAKER_11: We get that for sure.
- 40:13SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see, what else can I ask you?
- 40:16SPEAKER_11: Um, do they have of course we listen to the two songs and we're really impressed with the two songs.
- 40:21SPEAKER_11: And were you responsible for the Pines following us on Facebook?
- 40:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 40:27SPEAKER_11: You should follow these guys.
- 40:28SPEAKER_11: They talked about you.
- 40:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 40:29SPEAKER_11: Well, thank you for that.
- 40:30SPEAKER_11: We appreciate that.
- 40:32SPEAKER_11: Uh that was that was very cool.
- 40:33SPEAKER_11: Um, unfortunately, we are incredibly incredibly busy uh with our own things, so we don't really um follow them too much.
- 40:42SPEAKER_11: I know they have two original songs.
- 40:43SPEAKER_11: Do they have a full album?
- 40:46SPEAKER_16: Uh I don't think so, but they do have another song.
- 40:49SPEAKER_16: Mama's saying no.
- 40:50SPEAKER_16: No, they don't have a full album.
- 40:52SPEAKER_16: They just have singles on the song.
- 40:53SPEAKER_16: Yeah, they just have singles on Spotify, and I think they have an old song called Lot More, but I've heard a few times.
- 41:00SPEAKER_16: I I think it's really good.
- 41:02SPEAKER_16: But I think put it on Spotify if we wanted to.
- 41:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 41:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 41:09SPEAKER_11: Um, well, we were really impressed with the Pines.
- 41:11SPEAKER_11: Uh, but uh, I don't know, after this conversation, uh, we're more impressed with you.
- 41:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 41:15SPEAKER_11: Uh you've uh you very are are very poised and very um a good interview, let's just say that.
- 41:22SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 41:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so we're we're pretty pumped.
- 41:24SPEAKER_11: Um we were kind of hesitant.
- 41:25SPEAKER_11: We we didn't know what to talk to.
- 41:27SPEAKER_11: A uh what are you, 13?
- 41:29SPEAKER_11: Oh are you 13?
- 41:31SPEAKER_15: I'm 12, I'm turning 13 in November.
- 41:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we didn't we didn't know what to talk to a 12 or 13 year old girl about, but uh this has been very, very smooth.
- 41:39SPEAKER_11: It's very, very easy.
- 41:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 41:41SPEAKER_11: So it's kind of cool.
- 41:43SPEAKER_15: I have I have a collection.
- 41:45SPEAKER_11: Oh a collection of CDs?
- 41:48SPEAKER_11: Oh, how big how big is your collection?
- 41:51SPEAKER_15: I have 27 right now?
- 41:53SPEAKER_11: 27 CDs?
- 41:56SPEAKER_11: Should I turn the camera around?
- 41:59SPEAKER_11: Elsa, do you want to see the wall of tunes?
- 42:01SPEAKER_11: Do you want to see the wall of tunes?
- 42:04unknown: Yeah.
- 42:05SPEAKER_11: I don't know if I can I don't know if I can do that.
- 42:07SPEAKER_11: Hold on.
- 42:08SPEAKER_11: Hold on.
- 42:10SPEAKER_11: Excuse the mess.
- 42:12SPEAKER_11: Excuse the mess.
- 42:13SPEAKER_11: Let's see.
- 42:17SPEAKER_11: This is the wall that I choose from for every episode.
- 42:21SPEAKER_11: And this is actually that's a fraction of what it used to be.
- 42:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 42:25SPEAKER_14: I I actually got rid of um I actually I actually have a bunch of them at my house too.
- 42:30SPEAKER_14: So yeah.
- 42:32SPEAKER_11: I uh at one time I had I think five thousand.
- 42:36SPEAKER_11: Five thousand CDs.
- 42:37SPEAKER_11: Five thousand CDs.
- 42:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 42:39SPEAKER_11: And I got rid of a butt.
- 42:41SPEAKER_11: I think right now I pro that's probably a thousand there.
- 42:44SPEAKER_14: There's probably a grand, yeah.
- 42:45SPEAKER_11: That's probably a thousand there.
- 42:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 42:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 42:47SPEAKER_11: On the wall of tunes right now.
- 42:49SPEAKER_11: So you got a little catching up to do, sister.
- 42:54SPEAKER_11: You'll get there, don't worry.
- 42:56SPEAKER_11: So we we missed that.
- 42:57SPEAKER_11: Say it again.
- 42:59SPEAKER_15: Oh, I would need to go to more flea markets then.
- 43:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah, absolutely.
- 43:02SPEAKER_11: That's because that's the only place that has them now.
- 43:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah, basically, yeah.
- 43:05SPEAKER_11: Trying to get rid of them, yeah.
- 43:07SPEAKER_11: Because everybody streams now.
- 43:09SPEAKER_11: But yeah.
- 43:10SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 43:10SPEAKER_11: Well, you know what?
- 43:11SPEAKER_11: We didn't unless there's anything anything else that you wanted to mention, did you want to promote the pines or did you want to just say them more?
- 43:18SPEAKER_11: You would like to promote them more?
- 43:20SPEAKER_15: Uh-huh.
- 43:21SPEAKER_15: Well, I really I think they're really big role models for me because I don't really have a lot of kids my age that like to send music as I do.
- 43:31SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 43:31SPEAKER_15: And so they're like really big inspirations for me, and I really hope I get to play with better than that to be.
- 43:39SPEAKER_15: So you know.
- 43:41SPEAKER_11: Well, you make sure you pass the message on to them that they need to listen to this episode of the podcast.
- 43:47SPEAKER_11: It's going to be episode two eleven of the O'Brien and Doug podcast, and they will get this message because I'm going to put this interview on in its entirety, so they'll hear what you just said.
- 43:56SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 43:57SPEAKER_11: Okay, so pass that on, and uh if the pines Are you listening?
- 44:00SPEAKER_11: Ilsa is your biggest fan.
- 44:02SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 44:02SPEAKER_11: And in a couple years, she desperately wants to be the head of your fan club.
- 44:07SPEAKER_14: Well, she's going to be the head of your fan club and she's going to be your manager.
- 44:10SPEAKER_14: So get used to it.
- 44:13SPEAKER_11: So get used to it.
- 44:14SPEAKER_11: She's making things happen.
- 44:16SPEAKER_11: She's make I mean, look, I mean, she pro she she helped promote you on this uh incredibly well-known podcast with 27 listeners.
- 44:23SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 44:24SPEAKER_11: Um so uh we're not we're not gonna keep you much longer.
- 44:31SPEAKER_11: Elsa, it was wonderful to talk to you.
- 44:33SPEAKER_11: Yes, it's nice to meet you.
- 44:35SPEAKER_11: Um we uh we wish you the best uh in your school year and and yeah, and let's do this.
- 44:41SPEAKER_11: Let's do uh because we're gonna do the rock on.
- 44:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah!
- 44:45SPEAKER_11: Put the horns up, Elsa! Tell your mom, tell your mom thank you for letting us use her Zoom.
- 44:51SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 44:51SPEAKER_11: And uh and uh we'll we'll be in touch, okay?
- 44:55SPEAKER_09: Thanks, Elsa.
- 44:56SPEAKER_10: Thanks, Elsa.
- 44:57SPEAKER_10: All right, bye bye.
- 44:57SPEAKER_10: Bye.
- 44:59SPEAKER_10: That's awesome.
- 45:00SPEAKER_10: Oh, she's a sweet.
- 45:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no, that was really cool.
- 45:04SPEAKER_10: Oh, man.
- 45:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 45:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 45:06SPEAKER_14: She gives me hope for the next, you know, I know, right?
- 45:09SPEAKER_14: You know, not all of them are swift.
- 45:10SPEAKER_11: And it's so it's so I don't know, I kind of got not a sad feeling, but just like she embraces the pines as like um, you know, the fact that she doesn't have a lot of kids her age that are into the things that she's into.
- 45:26SPEAKER_11: Exactly, yeah.
- 45:26SPEAKER_11: So it's like a self-esteem thing, you know, and this this band represents what she enjoys.
- 45:31SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 45:31SPEAKER_14: And and and and and then in turn they've embraced her too, you know.
- 45:35SPEAKER_14: Right, obviously.
- 45:36SPEAKER_14: Yeah, so that's great.
- 45:37SPEAKER_14: I mean, there's it's a symbiotic relationship between the two, yeah.
- 45:40SPEAKER_14: And I hope that continues, you know, so that she, you know, she gets more confidence and you know, you know, and you know, being more, you know, rock.
- 45:48SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 45:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a rock fan.
- 45:52SPEAKER_11: I mean, that's yeah, the best.
- 45:54SPEAKER_11: It's the best, Elsa.
- 45:55SPEAKER_11: It is the best.
- 45:56SPEAKER_11: Oh, you know what?
- 45:56SPEAKER_11: I I got rid of I didn't say I get rid of her.
- 45:58SPEAKER_11: I got her off the phone.
- 45:59SPEAKER_11: Uh I should have asked her what her big four uh of rock guitar was.
- 46:03SPEAKER_11: Um she can let us know by uh she can send us an email.
- 46:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 46:07SPEAKER_11: Um so Ultimate Classic Rock has this uh big four of rock guitar, and we have already established what they've listed.
- 46:15SPEAKER_11: So Keith Richards is one, uh Jimi Hendricks, Jimmy Page, and of course Eddie Van Halen.
- 46:23SPEAKER_11: Edward.
- 46:23SPEAKER_11: So if we're just going the big four, um I was Eddie Van Halen would be there.
- 46:28SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 46:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 46:29SPEAKER_11: Um I'm gonna put Clapton in because um, you know, the whole history of Eric Clapton, Clapton is God and slow hand and all that stuff, and I think I just think I would put him I would put him in there.
- 46:41SPEAKER_11: Um and I think Jimi Hendrix.
- 46:45SPEAKER_14: No Hendrix, yeah, absolutely.
- 46:46SPEAKER_11: And I almost I almost agree with Jimmy Page too, because of the just what he's done with Led Zeppelin.
- 46:52SPEAKER_11: I I I think I think the only one I would change would be Keith Richards, and I'd change it to Eric Clapton.
- 46:58SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 46:58SPEAKER_11: Uh Big Four of Rock Guitar.
- 47:00SPEAKER_11: What about you?
- 47:01SPEAKER_14: Oh, I would change out Keith Richards also.
- 47:03SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 47:04SPEAKER_14: I would put in uh George Harrison.
- 47:06SPEAKER_11: George Harrison.
- 47:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 47:08SPEAKER_11: Big Four of Rock.
- 47:09SPEAKER_14: Well, you know what?
- 47:10SPEAKER_14: But I'll you know, but I don't know.
- 47:12SPEAKER_14: I I I almost think that I would put Buddy Holly there.
- 47:15SPEAKER_14: Only because he was the first rock and roll guy to actually like do rock.
- 47:24SPEAKER_14: Well, it was it was more rockabilly back then.
- 47:27SPEAKER_14: Yeah, Bill Haley.
- 47:28SPEAKER_14: Yeah, Bill Haley.
- 47:29SPEAKER_14: But I mean he was more, you know, he was you know just like, you know, he wasn't standing there with a guitar up to his chest going.
- 47:36SPEAKER_11: He made playing a strat cool.
- 47:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's a good thing.
- 47:38SPEAKER_11: Buddy Hawley did, yeah.
- 47:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 47:40SPEAKER_11: Um and he was an underrated player, actually.
- 47:42SPEAKER_14: Absolutely.
- 47:43SPEAKER_14: Um historically, I would put, you know, either Buddy Hawley or George Harrison there instead of Keith Richards.
- 47:54SPEAKER_11: George Harrison, because uh a couple of things, uh of the of the the impact that he had on music in general.
- 48:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I mean The Harrison Soul.
- 48:03SPEAKER_14: We named solos after him.
- 48:04SPEAKER_11: You know Harrison Solos.
- 48:06SPEAKER_11: You know, you know what George Harrison's soul is absolutely because it's it's simple, it's melodic, and it's it fits.
- 48:12SPEAKER_14: And it always it's yeah, I was just gonna say it's gonna be it's always fits perfectly into the songs.
- 48:16SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 48:16SPEAKER_11: So uh I would you know, I would not put up a fight to put George Harrison in that spot.
- 48:22SPEAKER_11: Um I still I still think Clapton has to go in there.
- 48:26SPEAKER_14: Uh just because of Well, we'd have to have a big six.
- 48:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah, five or six, yeah.
- 48:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 48:33SPEAKER_11: Who else would you put in there?
- 48:34SPEAKER_11: So so well you would put Jimmy Page in there.
- 48:38SPEAKER_14: I I'd leave Jimmy Page in there.
- 48:40SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 48:40SPEAKER_14: I mean, I love Zeppelin.
- 48:41SPEAKER_11: I mean, and they had they were such a big influence.
- 48:43SPEAKER_14: Yeah, they were a huge influence in the Zeppelin.
- 48:44SPEAKER_11: And I think that's the way you have to look at it.
- 48:46SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 48:46SPEAKER_14: I mean, Eddie, Eddie was the influence from the late 70s in the 80s.
- 48:50SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 48:51SPEAKER_14: I mean, Jimmy Page was the late 60s into the 70s.
- 48:54SPEAKER_11: Jimmy Hendrix.
- 48:55SPEAKER_14: Jimi Hendrix was a big influence in the 60s.
- 48:57SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 48:58SPEAKER_14: And then, you know George Hendrix.
- 49:00SPEAKER_14: I mean, I can see I can see why they put Keith Richards in the city.
- 49:02SPEAKER_11: I can too.
- 49:03SPEAKER_14: Because, you know, he was basically late 50s into the sixties.
- 49:06SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 49:07SPEAKER_14: But, you know, I would, you know, I would go f back even further than him, and you know, that's why I said like Buddy Holly, uh, you know, George Harrison.
- 49:15SPEAKER_11: What about somebody like um uh uh Burton, Jimmy Burton, who was Elvis Presley's.
- 49:22SPEAKER_14: I would I would I would uh you're thinking Scotty Moore.
- 49:25SPEAKER_11: Scotty Moore, Scotty Moore and Jim Burton.
- 49:26SPEAKER_11: Jim Burton was was uh um uh Ricky Nelson's Yeah, yeah.
- 49:31SPEAKER_14: Yeah, even those guys.
- 49:33SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I mean they should be up there somewhere because you know without them you wouldn't have you wouldn't have a Keith Richards.
- 49:39SPEAKER_14: Right, it's true.
- 49:41SPEAKER_14: Even even if you want to go back even further, you gotta thank Bill Big Bill Brunsey.
- 49:47SPEAKER_11: Well you gotta think of the blues guys and the blues, yeah.
- 49:48SPEAKER_14: You know, B.
- 49:49SPEAKER_11: King, you know, uh Albert King, Freddie King, all of them.
- 49:52SPEAKER_14: John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, Robert Johnson, you gotta put Robert Johnson in there because it wasn't for Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton would never have picked up a guitar in the first place.
- 50:02SPEAKER_14: True.
- 50:03SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 50:03SPEAKER_11: But but I think well, so we're talking rock guitar, and I think the way they have made it is uh, and again, I I don't necessarily and I'm I'm not trying to take anything away from Keith Richards, but you are the other three have made a uh lasting impression on a um generation of people.
- 50:29SPEAKER_11: So you have uh Jimi Hendrix changed guitar.
- 50:32SPEAKER_14: Oh, he changed electric guitar for sure.
- 50:34SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 50:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 50:35SPEAKER_11: Jimmy Page, sloppy as he was, and he was.
- 50:38SPEAKER_14: He was very sloppy.
- 50:39SPEAKER_11: But he emitted he admitted it he was, but he he was innovative and just just so prolific in the things that he did, yeah um changed guitar.
- 50:52SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 50:54SPEAKER_11: Uh Eddie Van Halen, like you said, uh changed rock guitar.
- 50:58SPEAKER_14: Yeah, absolutely.
- 50:58SPEAKER_11: Well he saved rock guitar.
- 51:00SPEAKER_11: He did.
- 51:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah, because at the time it was disco.
- 51:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 51:02SPEAKER_11: Um so he he changed rock guitar.
- 51:05SPEAKER_11: Now, was there anyone after Eddie that changed rock guitar?
- 51:09SPEAKER_11: No.
- 51:10SPEAKER_11: No.
- 51:10SPEAKER_11: Because they were all doing what Eddie did.
- 51:12SPEAKER_14: Yeah, basically they're just it's an amalgamation of Jimmy, Eddie, Jim, you know, Jimmy Page.
- 51:19SPEAKER_11: But see, that's the thing.
- 51:20SPEAKER_11: Would you put Keith Richards in there?
- 51:22SPEAKER_14: Honestly, I'm gonna I'm gonna, you know, I would take Keith Richard Keith Richards and George Harrison were contemporaries.
- 51:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 51:28SPEAKER_14: They were both influencing people.
- 51:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 51:31SPEAKER_14: To be honest with you.
- 51:32SPEAKER_14: I don't why they put Keith Richards, I think just because Keith Richards is still alive.
- 51:37SPEAKER_11: For whatever reason.
- 51:38SPEAKER_11: Actually, let's see what they wrote.
- 51:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah, because I'm kind of interested in kind what their reasoning behind is.
- 51:42SPEAKER_11: That's the only one I want to read because all the the other ones are it's obvious.
- 51:46SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it makes sense.
- 51:47SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 51:47SPEAKER_11: Okay, so Keith Richards guitar playing is one of the main reasons Rolling Stones have become the most enduring and successful band in rock history.
- 51:53SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 51:54SPEAKER_11: Uh I would agree with that.
- 51:55SPEAKER_11: One of.
- 51:56SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 51:57SPEAKER_11: But they're still around, like you said.
- 51:58SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 51:58SPEAKER_11: He's also the co-writer of nearly all of their biggest hits.
- 52:01SPEAKER_11: He's also the How Is He Still Alive embodiment of rock and roll.
- 52:04SPEAKER_11: Thank you.
- 52:04SPEAKER_11: The guy who composed and recorded the famous Riff to I Can't Get No Satisfaction in his sleep.
- 52:09SPEAKER_11: You know that story.
- 52:10SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:10SPEAKER_11: Uh although primarily acclaimed for his rhythm work, Richards can be heard playing lead guitar on many classic stones, including Sympathy for the Devil, uh, which also features him on bass, which I didn't know.
- 52:20SPEAKER_11: I didn't know that.
- 52:21SPEAKER_11: Uh he was if he was writing this list, he'd almost assuredly put somebody else first.
- 52:25SPEAKER_11: Chuck Berry.
- 52:27SPEAKER_11: Uh yeah, I totally forgot about Chuck Barry.
- 52:28SPEAKER_11: Totally forgot about Chuck Berry.
- 52:30SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 52:30SPEAKER_11: Uh he says, even if you're a rock guitarist who wouldn't name him as your main influence, your main influence is probably still influenced by Chuck Berry.
- 52:37SPEAKER_14: Well, I don't know if a Chuck Berry, I would list him as an influence playing-wise, because he was a very I mean all his sounds kind of sound the same.
- 52:44SPEAKER_14: Yeah, but but but he made rock and guitar cool.
- 52:49SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but I I also think that um I yeah, I can't believe we didn't think of Chuck Berry.
- 52:57SPEAKER_11: Chuck Berry changed guitar.
- 52:59SPEAKER_11: He did.
- 53:00SPEAKER_14: Well, yeah.
- 53:01SPEAKER_11: You know, he did.
- 53:02SPEAKER_14: He uh But I I think he built on what Buddy Holly had started, if you ask me.
- 53:09SPEAKER_11: Who started first?
- 53:14SPEAKER_11: That's a good question.
- 53:15SPEAKER_11: We're gonna find out.
- 53:16SPEAKER_10: Because we have the technology.
- 53:18SPEAKER_14: That's why we have interwebs.
- 53:20SPEAKER_11: So let's see.
- 53:22SPEAKER_11: Chuck Berry.
- 53:25SPEAKER_11: I remember him in um actually I remember his uh his uh cousin in Back to the Future.
- 53:31SPEAKER_11: Do you remember that?
- 53:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 53:33SPEAKER_14: Then we have to listen to Michael J.
- 53:35SPEAKER_14: Fox, right?
- 53:37SPEAKER_14: Because he was Chuck Barry was Chuck Berry.
- 53:40SPEAKER_11: Alright, so let's see, Occupation Singer Musician.
- 53:45SPEAKER_11: Years Active, 1953 was the first year that he was active as an artist.
- 53:51SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 53:52SPEAKER_11: So let's see.
- 53:53SPEAKER_11: This could be pretty close, actually.
- 53:54SPEAKER_14: I think they're right, I think they were contemporaries.
- 53:56SPEAKER_11: I think they were contemporaries, but let's see.
- 53:59SPEAKER_11: Years active, 1952.
- 54:01SPEAKER_14: Well, see, there we go.
- 54:02SPEAKER_14: See, see, Doug was finally right about something.
- 54:07SPEAKER_14: Mark this down.
- 54:09SPEAKER_14: Episode 211.
- 54:12SPEAKER_14: Put it on the calendar.
- 54:13SPEAKER_14: Doug was right.
- 54:14SPEAKER_14: Doug was right.
- 54:15SPEAKER_14: Um Yeah.
- 54:16SPEAKER_14: But I mean, you know, I mean, but they had two different approaches to the guitar.
- 54:20SPEAKER_14: I mean, Chuck Berry was very flamboyant with the guitar, you know, he had his duck walk and everything like that.
- 54:26SPEAKER_11: I mean, he just, you know, he had a good time with it guitar.
- 54:28SPEAKER_11: But he kind of invented the the whole well, I shouldn't say invented, but he popularized the double stops, the the um uh hold on.
- 54:37SPEAKER_14: Oh, yeah, break out the guitar.
- 54:38SPEAKER_14: Let's let's let's uh let's have a live demonstration here.
- 54:42SPEAKER_10: Oh, we're not gonna go.
- 54:43SPEAKER_10: All I have here is an acoustic.
- 54:44SPEAKER_11: That's right.
- 54:44SPEAKER_11: But guitar's guitar.
- 54:46SPEAKER_11: So this thing right here.
- 54:51SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 54:51SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 54:52SPEAKER_11: Which is in like virtually every rock song of the era.
- 54:57SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 54:58SPEAKER_11: Um, that's a Chuck Berry thing.
- 55:00SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 55:00SPEAKER_11: It's called a double stop like poll uh.
- 55:06SPEAKER_11: Uh you hear that in uh Johnny Be Good.
- 55:11SPEAKER_11: Johnny Be Good, yeah.
- 55:15SPEAKER_11: And then the guitar's really out of tune, but you know what I mean?
- 55:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 55:21SPEAKER_11: I mean he popularized that and that became that became a Rolling Stones thing.
- 55:25SPEAKER_11: That became a Buddy Holly thing, you know.
- 55:27SPEAKER_14: Well, I think Buddy Hawley, you know, he he was he was the one that started, you know, instead of just, you know, quietly, you know, the guitar was more, you know, before that was more background.
- 55:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 55:42SPEAKER_14: He was the one that made it forefront.
- 55:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 55:44SPEAKER_14: You know, as part of his I'm not gonna argue with you.
- 55:47SPEAKER_11: I'm I'm I don't necessarily disagree.
- 55:49SPEAKER_14: No, no, I'm that's just my that's just one g that's one drummer's opinion.
- 55:53SPEAKER_14: Okay?
- 55:54SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 55:54SPEAKER_14: You know take it for what you will.
- 55:56SPEAKER_11: I did I I hadn't taken uh Chuck Berry into account.
- 55:59SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I totally I totally forgot about it.
- 56:00SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna change my my answer.
- 56:02SPEAKER_11: Okay so my big four are Chuck Berry, um Eric Clapton, and then Jimmy Page, and then Eddie Van Allen.
- 56:10SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 56:11SPEAKER_11: Oh no, no, no.
- 56:13SPEAKER_11: No.
- 56:14SPEAKER_11: I gotta have Jimi Hendrix in there.
- 56:15SPEAKER_11: Chuck Berry Oh I thought you said Jimmy Hendrix.
- 56:17SPEAKER_11: I didn't.
- 56:18SPEAKER_11: Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, I would put Jimi Hendrix in there before I'd put Clapton in.
- 56:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 56:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 56:24SPEAKER_14: Well no, Clapton was going before Hendrix.
- 56:27SPEAKER_14: Remember, Clapton saw Clapton saw Hendrix and he was like, oh, we're all in trouble.
- 56:31SPEAKER_14: Yeah, that's true.
- 56:32SPEAKER_11: So it's gotta be a big five.
- 56:34SPEAKER_11: So we gotta do a big five.
- 56:35SPEAKER_11: So I'm I would put Chuck Berry, uh Eric Clapton, um Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Eddie Van Halen.
- 56:43SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 56:43SPEAKER_11: Those are my top five.
- 56:44SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 56:44SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 56:44SPEAKER_11: Works for me.
- 56:45SPEAKER_11: It works for you.
- 56:46SPEAKER_11: Do you want to change yours?
- 56:47SPEAKER_14: Well, I would change mine from Chuck Berry to Buddy Holly, but all the rest I would keep.
- 56:52unknown: Okay, cool.
- 56:53SPEAKER_11: Awesome.
- 56:54SPEAKER_11: Well, that's our top five, whether you care or not.
- 56:57SPEAKER_11: Um so before we go to break, we need to do mixtape.
- 57:02SPEAKER_11: I completely forgot.
- 57:03SPEAKER_11: I completely I forgot the question.
- 57:05SPEAKER_11: I didn't even think about what the answer was.
- 57:07SPEAKER_11: It was the 80s montage one.
- 57:10SPEAKER_14: They're building a community center.
- 57:13SPEAKER_14: Oh, yes.
- 57:14SPEAKER_14: But we have to first we have to find out the winner from last week.
- 57:17SPEAKER_11: That's true.
- 57:18SPEAKER_14: So I will I will grab my cellular device here.
- 57:22SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 57:22SPEAKER_14: And I will pull up my conversation with our wonderful and talented judge.
- 57:27SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna strap my guitar back in this.
- 57:31SPEAKER_14: Alrighty.
- 57:34SPEAKER_14: Okay, so the one from last week was you're driving down the Pacific Coast Highway at sunset.
- 57:41SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 57:42SPEAKER_14: What song was great?
- 57:42SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 57:43SPEAKER_14: So this is what our judge said.
- 57:45SPEAKER_14: This week was great.
- 57:46SPEAKER_14: I'm not a Tupac fan, and you threw me for a loop with that pick.
- 57:50SPEAKER_14: Which I did.
- 57:51SPEAKER_14: But a solid choice.
- 57:52SPEAKER_14: All three picks were great and would be perfect songs to listen to while rolling down the Pacific Highway.
- 57:58SPEAKER_14: California Love definitely has the perfect California vibe.
- 58:01SPEAKER_14: Can't Drive 55 is always a great song for any highway drive.
- 58:05SPEAKER_14: I always have to set cruise control, especially when listening to awesome music.
- 58:09SPEAKER_14: Born to be Wild, though, was too good not to pick.
- 58:13SPEAKER_14: Especially listening to that on a bike rolling down the highway at sunset.
- 58:17SPEAKER_14: Perfect.
- 58:19SPEAKER_14: P.S.
- 58:19SPEAKER_14: Cousin Larry condolences on selling your bike.
- 58:21SPEAKER_14: I couldn't imagine not having mine.
- 58:23SPEAKER_14: Don't live with regrets if you can ride again.
- 58:26SPEAKER_11: You know what I like about our person is her replies are so thoughtful.
- 58:35SPEAKER_11: She actually puts thought into it.
- 58:37SPEAKER_11: She does, yeah.
- 58:38SPEAKER_14: That's why I chose her.
- 58:39SPEAKER_14: So she's very good at what she does.
- 58:42SPEAKER_11: Uh you say I don't know her?
- 58:44SPEAKER_11: You have no idea.
- 58:45SPEAKER_11: No, I don't know her.
- 58:46SPEAKER_14: You don't know her.
- 58:47SPEAKER_11: I don't know her.
- 58:48SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 58:48SPEAKER_11: Because I was gonna guess who who I thought it might be, but what do you think it is?
- 58:52SPEAKER_11: Well, I thought it might have been picked two.
- 58:53SPEAKER_11: No.
- 58:54unknown: No.
- 58:54unknown: Nope.
- 58:55SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 58:56SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 58:56SPEAKER_14: Alright.
- 58:57SPEAKER_14: So that so cousin cousin.
- 58:59SPEAKER_14: Congratulations.
- 58:59SPEAKER_14: Cousin Larry won again.
- 59:01SPEAKER_14: Again.
- 59:01SPEAKER_14: Is that three in a row?
- 59:02SPEAKER_14: Two or three in a row.
- 59:03SPEAKER_10: Two or three in a row.
- 59:03SPEAKER_14: Yeah, he's on fire.
- 59:05SPEAKER_14: He's on fire.
- 59:06SPEAKER_10: That may stand next to you, fire.
- 59:09SPEAKER_14: Okay, so this week's question.
- 59:11SPEAKER_14: I think we should start calling it past, present, and future.
- 59:14SPEAKER_11: Okay, let's do that.
- 59:16SPEAKER_14: This is passed.
- 59:17SPEAKER_14: That was passed.
- 59:17SPEAKER_14: This is present.
- 59:18SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 59:18SPEAKER_14: There you go.
- 59:19SPEAKER_14: So best montage song for fixing up the community centers context 80s.
- 59:24SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 59:24SPEAKER_14: Okay, so I'll read what Cousin Larry's.
- 59:26SPEAKER_11: I have an idea, but I'm not sure.
- 59:28SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 59:29SPEAKER_14: I will pull up Cousin Larry's.
- 59:31SPEAKER_14: Alright.
- 59:33SPEAKER_14: Cousin Larry.
- 59:34SPEAKER_14: Cousin Larry.
- 59:35SPEAKER_14: Cousin Larry.
- 59:36SPEAKER_14: Cousin Larry.
- 59:36SPEAKER_14: Cousin Larry.
- 59:37SPEAKER_14: Okay, here we go.
- 59:38SPEAKER_14: Oh, he sent me a picture.
- 59:39SPEAKER_14: He was at uh Coors Field for Cheap Trick Journey and Death Leopard.
- 59:44SPEAKER_14: Oh wow.
- 59:44SPEAKER_14: Yeah, he sent me, he sent me a uh video of uh uh Def Leopard.
- 59:49SPEAKER_11: No way.
- 59:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I bet that was a great show.
- 59:52SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it was pretty awesome.
- 59:55SPEAKER_14: Okay, so this is what he says.
- 59:56SPEAKER_14: So for the mixtape question, I tried to think of 80s songs.
- 59:59SPEAKER_14: Starships, we built this city, and nothing's gonna stop us now, or my first thoughts.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_14: Uh he says dinner Warwick, but I think he meant Diane Warwick.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_11: Dion Warwick.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_14: Yeah, Dion, yeah.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_14: Uh that's what friends are for, also came to mind.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_14: But uh it was a song from the 70s that I know has probably been in a movie or a television television show that's okay.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_14: Uh that really jumped out at me.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_14: Canned Heat's Let's Work Together would be a great montage song.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_14: That's my pick.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_14: So.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_11: Let's let's hear a little bit of that.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_14: No, we don't want a commercial.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_14: That's ingredient stretching.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_14: It is.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_14: That sounds painful.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_14: Her name is Katie.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_14: Hi, Katie.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_14: Stretch ingredients.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_11: Wait.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_11: Is the is the question 80s montage video?
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_11: It says context 80s, doesn't say it has to be contact.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_14: Oh, okay.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_14: Because I think I think they're referring to that that was a big thing in the 80s was having these montage.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_11: Well, not only that, I mean you would hear this song in an 80s montage video.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_11: I can hear it.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and I can see it.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_11: Canned heat, let's work together.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_11: That is cousin Larry's.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_11: That's Cousin Larry's part.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_11: Do you want to do yours or mine?
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_11: I'll do mine.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_14: Our house.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_13: In the middle of the street.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_13: Our house.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_13: Madness.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_14: Madness.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_13: I love that freaking song, man.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I let's see here.

- 1:02:11SPEAKER_13: They're passing stuff up the stairs, you know.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_11: I think you're gonna win this week.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_11: Next week.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_13: I love this one.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I do too.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_11: I think I think yeah, that's a good call.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_11: Now, I just thought of mine.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_11: Already! Uh I don't even know who sings it.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_11: That's how obscure it is.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_11: It's obscure.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_11: And I and I don't even know if it works, but I'm gonna see if I can find what it is.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_11: Um Do you know the name of this one?
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_10: I think so.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_11: Oh, well, that that came up.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_11: Cool.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_11: So let's oh.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_14: Alessie.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_14: Oh, this is from the original Ghostbusters movie.
- 1:03:21unknown: Yeah.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_14: See, I I attribute to this one when they're gonna go uh fight Zool.

- 1:03:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, saving the day.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_11: It's a great song.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_11: But what when I when I think of an 80s montage video, I think like they're built they're fixing up a house.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_11: Saving the neighborhood.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, there you go.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_11: And 80s, right?
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_11: It's almost like uh I don't know, the animal house when their their threat their house is threatened or something.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_11: I don't know why I thought of that, but I did.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_14: I never would have thought of it.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_14: No?
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_14: I just I just always attribute it to again the the you know the saving New York City and Right, I guess, right.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_14: I get it.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_11: But you can see a montage, right, with the song in the background.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_11: So that's uh Alesi, A-L-E-S-S-I, is the band, and that's Saving the Day.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_11: Saving the day.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so that now that's some weird choices.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_11: Let's work together from Canned Heat.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_11: Um, and yours was um Oh, Our House.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_11: Our House remember Madness.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_11: And mine was Alessie Saving the Day from uh from Ghostbusters.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_11: So there you go.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_14: There we go.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_14: Our judge has our workout cut over here.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_11: Now let's do the future question.

- 1:05:01SPEAKER_14: This is a good one.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_14: I'm gonna love this one.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_14: Sorry.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_14: You have loud, obnoxious neighbors living above you.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_14: What song do you play at high volume to get back at them?
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_11: This is gonna be a fun one.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_11: One popped into my head.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_11: There you go.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_11: And it's not, it's not uh it's not to annoy them.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_11: Well, no, it is to annoy them, but it's a great song.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_14: There you go.
- 1:05:26unknown: Yeah.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_11: Hey, I'm gonna stick with it.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_11: Just saying.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_11: Alright, so there you go.

- 1:05:43SPEAKER_11: She was very impressed with the five.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_11: She was impressed.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_11: Did you see you didn't see her face?
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_11: Because I was turning the she was like I knew she was gonna be impressed.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_14: I was like, that's that's why I suggested that she look at it.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_11: When she said, uh she says, I have quite a bit.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_11: A CD collection, do you?
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_11: She said, I have 27.

- 1:07:35SPEAKER_11: Um before we do that, Doug is gonna read from A Hard Day's Rights.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_11: By Mr.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_11: Steve Turner.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_11: And what is the song, Douglas?
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_14: The song is from Beatles for Sale.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_14: I don't want to spoil the party.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_14: Oh, that's a great song.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_14: It is a great song.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_10: Let the talking begin.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_14: Yeah, let me let me uh bore you to death here.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_14: Uh the Beatles briefly visited America in February 1964, playing in Washington, D.C.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_14: and New York City to promote I Wanna Hold Your Hand.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_14: It wasn't until August 1964 that they arrived for their first full-fledged tour.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_14: A month-long truck that would take them to 20 U.S.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_14: cities plus three in Canada.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_14: Playing 12 songs per show, they were supported by four American acts: the Bill Black combo, the Exciters, Jackie Del Shannon, or Dushannon, and The Righteous Brothers.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_14: Wow.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_14: Lucky guys.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_14: Both John and Paul had to write in their hotel rooms and while flying between dates.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_14: I don't want to spoil the party was one song John wrote during the tour, and it was the second song the Beatles recorded on their arrival back in London.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_14: Originally intended as a country and western style track that Ringo could sing.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_14: Interesting.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_14: It's a song about being stood up by a date as well as another glimpse into the at the frown beneath the mask.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_14: The crisis John describes is not so much the loss of a girl.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_14: Okay, the crisis John describes is not so much the loss of the girl, which he can cope with after a few drinks, but his inability to pretend he's happy.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_14: He knows that if he lets his true feelings show, he will only prevent others from having a good time.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_14: John said that I don't want to spoil the party was a deeply personal song, and that it's likely that it was inspired by his growing horror at being having to be a happy wacky beetle in the company of record company executives, politicians, and city dignitaries.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_14: The frequent photographs taken on this trip invariably showed John either forcing a smile or looking as though his mind was elsewhere.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_09: Hmm.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_11: So there's that uh infamous George Harrison solo here.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_08: There's no fun in what I do if she's not there.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_11: There really was nobody better back then.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_11: No.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_14: They owned it.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_14: They owned the 60s.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_11: Once again, fits the song.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_14: Down me, man.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_11: I don't want to spoil the party.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_11: The Beatles so awesome.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_11: So awesome.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_11: Alright, so we have I have climbed the wall of tunes.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_11: I have myself a CD from this giant wall of tunes.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_11: So I guess the words that I need to say are let the guessing beginning.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_14: Is it a band?
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_14: Rock band?
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_14: Why did you hesitate?
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_11: Because I would call them an alternative rock band.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_11: Contemporaries.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_11: Not really hootie is but contemporaries.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_14: Oh, speaking of hoodie.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_14: Guess what I found on DVD?
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_14: What did you find on DVD?
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_14: Summer camp for Trucks.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_14: And the video one?
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_14: The other one.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_14: Um where they're just talking about.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_14: Remember when they were talking about playing in Southern Maine and the girl grew up in their third in their I found that one too on DVD.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_11: I have both of them on VHS.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I have that one DVD now.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_11: Oh now I'm jealous.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_14: I was like, I couldn't believe it.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_14: Dude, I was like, I can't believe I found both of them.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_14: I was so impressed.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_11: Um really shaped us.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_11: I think as a video.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah, well, I mean, those even those videos.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah, because we're like, I want to do that.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_11: I want to go on the road with my friends and I want a girl to throw up in our monitor.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_11: Hold on.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_14: Um I mean, we've only had people like put their drinks on our on our speakers and stuff.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_14: Oh, yeah.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_14: Which is super annoying in and of itself.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_14: But having a girl throw up into your monitor, that's definitely a good story.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_14: That's definitely a road story.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_11: Um have we done Toad before?
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_14: That's a good question.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_14: I think we have.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_11: I don't think we've done this one, but I could be wrong.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_14: It's possible we haven't.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_11: Um this is so they released an album.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_11: Uh what is this one?

- 1:13:28unknown: I don't know.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna do it anyway.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_11: We're gonna do it.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_11: This is This was a long time ago when we did when uh so when I was in radio, uh record companies used to send um promotional CDs, like singles.

- 1:13:49SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_11: Uh because it would have like three or four, maybe five songs on it.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_11: Um and this happens to be a promotional CD for their full-length CD.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_11: Dulcinia.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_11: Uh and so they had a couple of songs from Dulcinia, but then they had a bun a bunch of songs from their back catalog.

- 1:17:43SPEAKER_05: And if I'm lonely here, I'm lonely here and on the telephone you are free show runs.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_05: I will not take these things for granted.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_05: I will not take these things.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_11: Glenn Phillips' voice is very is very unique.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_11: It's I think it's it's also very uh common man.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_14: You know, is it's very if it can be unique and common at the same time, I think so.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_14: Yeah, he pulled it off.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_14: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_14: Uh and then I like I like this song because it it kind of reminds me of a less a less disturbing poly by Nirvana.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I hear that.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_11: So and then the last one I wanted to play was this one.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_04: I've come you a thousand times, some things never change.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_04: Yes, I will.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_04: Anything you say, I'll quit this a million times, can't quite stay away.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_11: No, but wow one more time.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_04: I'll be okay today.
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_04: So damn tired would I come back down the world crazy too.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_11: Hearing this stuff makes me want to I wanna go back to the 90s.
- 1:19:29SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_11: But I also want to I wanna be 25 again.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_11: When we were when when you and I or when I was writing those songs that we have, Midnight, Midnight Girl, um, all that stuff, we were listening to this stuff.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_14: This is this is the stuff that inspired that.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_11: And I it it makes me long to go back and not care anymore about hit songs.
- 1:19:55SPEAKER_11: Just write.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_11: Just because it's fun to write, yeah, you know.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_11: And that's that's the way those songs came out.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_11: It was just it was just we were messing around and it was fun.
- 1:20:03SPEAKER_14: We had most of that's how most of them started.
- 1:20:05SPEAKER_14: We just just mess you mess around with some guitar chords, and you know, somebody would throw out a line or a word, or you know.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_11: And we have to write this about this.
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_11: We have so many.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_11: I mean, we could put out another two or three CDs worth of our music.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_11: But you know, Shane's in New Hampshire.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_11: Shane needs to move back.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and and Joko, I mean, Joko was obviously a great addition.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_11: Joko's never coming back.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_11: I know Joko's never coming back.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_11: He would play for us.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_11: I mean, if we ever decided to tune it, he'd play for us.
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we'd totally play for us.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_11: Um like on an album or something.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_11: Sure.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_11: He'd he'd be there in a heartbeat.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_11: I know he would.
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_11: But I just, you know, I listened to this stuff and it's like, this was where we started.
- 1:20:47SPEAKER_14: Yeah, this this this is our roots are here.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_14: I think so.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:20:51SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_11: Anyway, Toad the Wet Sprocket.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_11: So this is a radio album called uh Fall Down Plus.
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_11: Um largely featured their Dulcinia album.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_11: Dulcinia.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_04: And do you have to come?
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_11: I just love this band.
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_11: And they got their name from a Monty Python.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_11: Um skit or something.
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah, totally wet sprocket.
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_10: Told the wet rocket.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_10: Um, okay.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_10: That's it.
- 1:21:38SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 1:21:39SPEAKER_14: Not done yet.
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_14: Nope.
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_14: We have one more thing to do.
- 1:21:41SPEAKER_11: What do we have to do?
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_14: We have to O'Brien and Doug's homeschool circle.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_14: Oh.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_14: Oh, you have something?
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_14: Well, I I I I'm going to give them an assignment.
- 1:21:52SPEAKER_11: Okay, okay.
- 1:21:53SPEAKER_11: So this is for the Blanchard clan.
- 1:21:55SPEAKER_11: Okay, just a second, because I have to come up with some music for this.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_11: So let me I'm gonna pick something.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_11: Play hot for teacher.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_11: Uh no.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna I'm gonna pick something that's instrumental.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_14: Well, I want you to play the song that the the my assignment is based on.
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_14: Okay, well well okay.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_14: So what is it?
- 1:22:19SPEAKER_14: So I wanted to I wanted to pick a uh a song that had historical meaning.
- 1:22:25SPEAKER_14: And then just have have the clan, you know, look up the actual event.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_14: And the song, I I I mentioned, I actually mentioned this last week, but I think a good start would be Johnny Horton's The Battle of New Orleans.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_10: Oh, yes.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_14: It's a great, it's a great song, and it's uh it's actually a very fascinating part of history.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_10: Uh-huh.
- 1:22:43SPEAKER_10: So that's a commercial with some old dude.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_10: What's he doing?
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_10: Plus, I forgot to stop to the woods prior.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_10: Oh, one of these days.
- 1:22:53SPEAKER_10: We're so good at this.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_10: One of these days I'll figure out.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_14: Oh, it's Austin Terrier.
- 1:22:55SPEAKER_14: That's right.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_14: There we go.
- 1:22:58SPEAKER_10: Johnny Horton.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_00: In eighteen eighteen fourteen, we took a little trip along with Colonel Jackson down the mine in Mississippi.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_00: We took a little bacon and we took the little beans, and we caught the bloody British in a town in New Orleans.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_00: We fired our guns, and the British kept her coming.
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_01: There wasn't as many as there was a while ago.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_01: We fired once more and they began to run it.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_01: On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_11: Okay, so you want them to look up the Battle of New Orleans the historical significance of the Battle of New Orleans.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_14: It's just a fascinating thing because number one, it's a war that nobody very talk very rarely talks about, the war of eighteen twelve.
- 1:23:38SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 1:23:41SPEAKER_14: It features a pr a free a future president, Andrew Jackson.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 1:23:46SPEAKER_14: He's Colonel Jackson at the time.
- 1:23:47SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_14: He didn't have a regular, you realize he didn't have a regular army with him, right?
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_14: His army was made up mostly of militia, pirates, freed slaves, and native tribes.
- 1:24:01SPEAKER_14: That was his that was his that was his army.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_14: That's what he hit that's how he defeated the British with these guys.
- 1:24:07SPEAKER_11: Okay, don't say anymore.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_14: Well that's I'm just giving them the and the most the most the most fascinating part about this battle is that it was fought after the war ended.
- 1:24:17SPEAKER_14: They hadn't they didn't know it was ended yet.
- 1:24:20SPEAKER_11: Because the war hadn't reached over.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_11: We had we hadn't uh we didn't have uh text.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_14: Yeah, they didn't like at all.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_14: Hey, the war's over, stop fighting lol, you know.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_14: But knowing knowing Andrew Jackson, he would have been like, oh, I never got it.
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_14: Let's go!
- 1:24:36SPEAKER_00: So another round.
- 1:24:37SPEAKER_00: We filled his head with cannonballs and powdered his eye, and when we touched the powder, so what what did you call this segment again?
- 1:24:44SPEAKER_11: O'Brien and Doug's homeschool circle.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_11: Homeschool circle.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_11: I like that.
- 1:24:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_14: All right, so look it's mostly aimed at the Blanchard.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_11: The historical significance of the Battle of New Orleans from Johnny Horton is the song.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_11: So there you go.
- 1:25:01SPEAKER_11: That's your assignment.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_11: That's your assignment.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_11: That's your assignment.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_11: Enjoy.
- 1:25:04SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 1:25:04SPEAKER_14: That is it's a very fascinating.
- 1:25:06SPEAKER_14: It really is a fascinating uh look at history.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_14: Uh you know, a part of history that people like I said, people don't really talk about much.
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_14: They talk about the battle of Norms, but they don't really talk about the whole War of 1812 that much.
- 1:25:22SPEAKER_11: The 1812 overture is about the War of 1812, isn't it?
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_11: I have no idea.
- 1:25:25SPEAKER_11: You know what I'm talking about.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah, 1812 overture.
- 1:25:28SPEAKER_14: Everybody calls it the William Tell.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_14: You know how that actually has in order to play that correctly, you have to actually have cannons.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_14: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_11: It is crazy.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_14: What do you play?
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_14: Artillery.
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_14: I'm the driver.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_14: I'm the violinist.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_14: I'm the cannonier.
- 1:25:48SPEAKER_14: That'd be a great job.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_11: Alright, that's episode 21.
- 1:25:53SPEAKER_11: Uh my our thanks to uh Ilsa.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_11: Yes, thanks, Ilsa.
