- 1:43The Mets have played the Phillies 17 ballgames.
- 1:46This is the last game of the year between these two clubs.
- 1:49The Mets have won 12 and lost five. And here at County Mac City, the Mets have won six of the eight game play.
- 1:55The Mets start their action with a record of 80 wins and 74 losses.
- 1:59They are three games back in the Lost Island to the Pittsburgh Pirates to lead over the Chicago Cubs by two games.
- 2:06Mets are in third place three games back.
- 2:09And now from County Mac Stadium in Philadelphia, our national athletes.
- 2:14terminal.
- 3:29Our Dats for Admin from County Maxx Stadium.
- 3:49And that's the play to Philadelphia Phillies for the final time this year.
- 3:53The weather report here at County Maxx Stadium, 84 degrees.
- 3:56It was up to 100 earlier today.
- 3:59Humidity 75 percent.
- 4:01So it is a hot, humid night at County Maxx Stadium.
- 4:05Light breeze blowing out towards center field.
- 4:08And this ballgame is just about to get underway.
- 4:15And here for the play-by-play, Lindsay Nelson.
- 4:18Thank you very much, Ralph.
- 4:19Hello everybody, it's Tommy Agee stepping into leadoff now for the New York Mets.
- 4:25He's hitting 280, 24 homers, 73 runs at it.
- 4:31We are getting underway 10 minutes late here at County Maxx Stadium.
- 4:37Because of the lateness, they're turning on the lights.
- 4:39Here is the pitch.
- 4:41And it's time for a ball.
- 4:42Chris Short on the mound has won nine games and he has lost 15.
- 4:47Left-hander against the Mets.
- 4:50Here he's won two and lost one.
- 4:52His lifetime record against them is 11-5.
- 4:55There's a breaking pitch in for a called strike.
- 4:58Dick Sello is the umpire behind the plate.
- 5:00The commissioner of baseball, Bois June, is here tonight.
- 5:05He was present at a press gathering late this afternoon here at the ballpark.
- 5:12Here is a 1-1 pitch to Agee.
- 5:14Swung on and hit deep to center field.
- 5:16Going back is Larry Heisel.
- 5:18And he makes the catch way back in left center.
- 5:22Left his feet to haul down the drive that was hit more than 400 feet by Tommy Agee.
- 5:27So there's one away.
- 5:31That'll bring up Bud Harrelson.
- 5:33Quick hitting shortstop with a 2.39 average.
- 5:35One homer and 41 runs batted in.
- 5:38Harrelson batting right against the left-handed Chris Short.
- 5:41The Phillies are playing an end deal of Deron Johnson at first.
- 5:44Tommy Taylor at second. Larry Bois shortstop and Don Money at third.
- 5:53This pitch is a little low.
- 5:55Leon Johnson is out on deck.
- 5:57The outfield alignment is Joe Lifton left.
- 5:59Larry Heisel in center and Byron Brown in right field.
- 6:03It's a hot night in Philadelphia.
- 6:07Here's a play and a drive in the air that he's left.
- 6:09Going back is Lift.
- 6:10He's way back and he makes the catch at the edge of the warning track.
- 6:14And that's a blasted two shots here for put out.
- 6:18As Harrelson sent Lift back to the edge of the warning track in front of the seats out there in left.
- 6:25Two men out.
- 6:26Leon Jones is the batter.
- 6:28Hitting 284. He has 10 homers and 63 runs batted in.
- 6:35Chris Short delivers.
- 6:37And it's in the air to right field and Byron Brown is there underneath and waiting.
- 6:42And all three of the put outs are in the outfield.
- 6:45You're in the first inning.
- 6:47Nothing across.
- 6:49In the middle of the first inning the score is New York maps nothing and the Phillies coming to pass.
- 6:56When you get the leap of hungries and your stomach wears a frown,
- 7:00a cheeseburger from McDonald's will help to calm you down.
- 7:03Because the burger is made of pure beef and the cheese is creamy nice and the best part of the whole thing is McDonald's tasty fries.
- 7:10It's a bargain and scrumptious goodie to smile, not and say cheese.
- 7:15A McDonald's cheeseburger, some french fries and a Coke.
- 7:19Sounds good doesn't it?
- 7:20McDonald's can put good food in your family and change back in your pocket.
- 7:25You've heard about the dollar it used to buy a bunch.
- 7:28Now when you try to use one you can hardly get a lunch.
- 7:32Except at McDonald's now maybe this sounds strange.
- 7:35But pass the buck to us and we'll pass you back some change like nickels and pennies and dollars and all the curious little round pieces of metal.
- 7:45At McDonald's a dollar makes you a big spender.
- 7:49McDonald's can put good food in your family and change back in your pocket.
- 7:56Everybody OK over the home of the Mets for the capital district.
- 8:08Ray Sadecki is the pitcher on the mound tonight for the New York Mets.
- 8:12The left hander has a record of 8 wins and 4 losses against the Phils.
- 8:16This year he's won 2 and he's lost none.
- 8:19Sadecki's lifetime record against the Phillies is 15 wins and 13 losses.
- 8:24Larry Poa is up to lead off.
- 8:27He is a foot-hitter.
- 8:29Batting right he has an 18 game hitting streak going and it's the longest Philly hitting streak since Pancho Herrera in 1960.
- 8:44We have the warm-up for the game scheduled at Yankee Stadium now on the Western Union Pickers.
- 8:56Now here's the pitch.
- 8:57Point on and it pops up foul and might be playable to Grote.
- 9:01He gets rid of the mask and Grote moves over and makes the catch.
- 9:05So Larry Poa has fouled out the touch of Jerry Grote and Tony Taylor is coming up.
- 9:10Taylor's hitting 290 to 9 all-munchers and 53 runs better than the warm-up.
- 9:14Joe Coleman for Washington and Rob Gardner a former Mets just back from Syracuse starting tonight for the New York Yankees.
- 9:24Earlier they had done an indication that the game in New York might be post-ponem because of a power shortage.
- 9:30As a matter of fact information with Grote's effect that it has had then.
- 9:34Obviously that is counting by moving as the pitch is warming up.
- 9:41Tony Taylor, Tadecki fits in for a strike if he moves up his little button.
- 9:47I'll never forget a comment by Rob Gardner that he made on a post-game show on TV.
- 9:51He saw himself hit for the first time on TV.
- 9:54He threw a curve ball and his comment was, my gosh even I could hit that.
- 9:59But he couldn't.
- 10:00Here's the pitch and it's high for a ball it's 1-1.
- 10:04In St. Louis the finite doubleheader tonight between the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals at the end of 4 innings.
- 10:10The Cardinals 2 and the Cubs 1.
- 10:12Ferguson Jenkins against Bob Gibson.
- 10:14They were rained out last night.
- 10:18Two balls one strike to Tony Taylor with Don Money waiting on deck.
- 10:23Rob had a great year at Syracuse and we certainly want to wish him luck.
- 10:27He was a fine fellow with a mess.
- 10:29He's got a lot of delivery and it's not away for a ball.
- 10:32It's 3-1.
- 10:33The Nets have an infield here tonight of Don Glenn Dunn in the first base.
- 10:36Al Weiss at second base.
- 10:38Bud Harrelson at short and Joe Foy at third.
- 10:41Leon Jones in left.
- 10:42Tommy Agyan center.
- 10:43Ron Swavoda playing right field.
- 10:45Here's a foul ball back and out of play.
- 10:47It's 3-2.
- 10:50The story of Vic Delmer's verbal verize released after last night's game was the big baseball story in here in Philadelphia
- 10:58in the morning papers.
- 11:00Which in a fit of pepper Delmer had said that he thought the game was fixed
- 11:04and thought that umpire should be investigated.
- 11:07The late to Louis Jones before the game told the press that he thought that the penalty was sufficient.
- 11:14Here's a swing and a drive into center field for base 6.
- 11:17And it is on by Agyan.
- 11:19It'll be extra basis for Tony Taylor.
- 11:21He's at second on his way to third.
- 11:23Relay coming in and at third base he is late.
- 11:27So Tony Taylor is at third.
- 11:31It is a single and a two base error charged against Tommy Agyan center field.
- 11:39It was a line drive but Agyan came over to try to come up with it and play it back
- 11:43and instead he came up empty and the ball went on by.
- 11:46For a two base error.
- 11:48A good relay might have made it a closer play at third.
- 11:51Foy had to come off the back at third to get the relay.
- 11:54Then drive back across to try to get Taylor and could not.
- 11:58Don Money's up now.
- 11:59One man out, run to third.
- 12:00No score.
- 12:01Philly is threatening him.
- 12:03Bottom half of the first inning.
- 12:13There's a pitch to the right hand batter.
- 12:14Low for a ball.
- 12:15Jody Bluffs to throw to third.
- 12:16Taylor gets back to the bag in a hurry.
- 12:20It's all right.
- 12:291-0 pitch.
- 12:31Foul back and out of play.
- 12:33It's 1-1.
- 12:39It was worth to note that the umpires themselves did not feel that the $500 fine of Selma was sufficient penalty
- 12:45and that they with their reports of course would work toward his suspension.
- 12:50Here's a 1-1 pitch.
- 12:51And it is low for a ball.
- 12:532-1.
- 13:04Tadecki takes the pass and Jerry Grote.
- 13:07Off his 2-1.
- 13:08Swung on and foul back.
- 13:102-2.
- 13:15The official temperature in Philadelphia today reached 95 degrees, the highest of the fall season in downtown Philadelphia.
- 13:22A reading of 100 was recorded in mid-afternoon.
- 13:302-2 pitch.
- 13:32Swung on and on the ground to third.
- 13:33Boy, I can't handle it.
- 13:34Off his glove.
- 13:35The run score.
- 13:36Throw to first is in time.
- 13:38The ball is on the edge of the infield grass.
- 13:41Knocked it down.
- 13:43Came up.
- 13:44So he had no play at the plate.
- 13:46So then threw on to first for the putout.
- 13:48But the run score.
- 13:50And now Daron Johnson is the batter.
- 14:02The Fills are leading by a score of 1-0.
- 14:04Johnson's hitting.254.
- 14:06The pitch is in for a cross-strike.
- 14:08Johnson has 27 home runs and 87 runs battered in.
- 14:15Joe Foy got to the ground ball all right.
- 14:17Just did not handle it.
- 14:21Low for the ball.
- 14:22No error charge, of course, because he did make the putout at first base.
- 14:28As far as the Mets are concerned, it would have been much better made at the plate.
- 14:32Here is the 1-1 delivery.
- 14:35It's high and away for a ball.
- 14:37Two balls and a strike.
- 14:42Joe List is out on deck for the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 14:51Here's a 2-1 trick.
- 14:53Fastball in there for a call strike two.
- 14:55It's two and two.
- 14:59George Brunette is the starter tonight for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 15:03Something of a surprise move.
- 15:06Carl Morton is starting for Montreal in Pittsburgh.
- 15:09The pitch is low, three and two.
- 15:12It had been presumed that Steve Blass would start tonight,
- 15:16but he's not starting.
- 15:17George Brunette is.
- 15:19So apparently Danny Murtaugh is judging his pitchers.
- 15:24Here's a payoff pitch.
- 15:26It is low and it's a walk for Daron Johnson.
- 15:28First walk issued by Ray Sedecky.
- 15:31Put Johnson on it first and Joe List is coming up.
- 15:36List is hitting 200, one homer and four runs batted in,
- 15:38right hand batting left fielder.
- 15:57That pitch is half of all, if one and all.
- 16:09Again, Sedecky checks.
- 16:12Here's a pitch that's foul back and out of play.
- 16:17So Danny Murtaugh, the Pittsburgh Pirates,
- 16:19here in the stretch drive has gone into his bullpen
- 16:21and told that George Brunette hasn't started.
- 16:24Earlier in the drive up at Montreal,
- 16:27Leo De Rocha of the Chicago Cubs reached into his bullpen
- 16:30and pulled out Bob Miller and posted him as it started.
- 16:37One one-fifth, third ball, little high.
- 16:40Two balls and a strike now to Joe List.
- 16:51Daron Johnson leads it first.
- 16:54Here's two one-fifths, side low and inside.
- 16:56Three and one to List with Tim McArber next in the order.
- 17:09Three one-fifths is half of all.
- 17:12That's the second consecutive walk issued by Ray Sedecky.
- 17:16Daron Johnson moves to second.
- 17:18Joe List is on it first, left hand batting catcher.
- 17:21Tim McArber is coming up with a 2.44 average.
- 17:24Three homers, six runs batted in.
- 17:26We pass for station identification.
- 17:28This is the New York Met Spaceball Network.
- 17:30This is WOKO in Albany, New York.
- 17:32Our temperature is 74 degrees.
- 17:34Cahoe's Savings Bank time is now two minutes until 8 o'clock.
- 17:37Time to look into a low-cost life insurance savings bank plan
- 17:40at Cahoe's Savings Bank.
- 17:42Here's Nelson with Ralph Kanner and Bob Murphy
- 17:44at Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia,
- 17:47where the Phils are leading the Mets by a score of one-nothing.
- 17:50Nolan Ryan gets up to throw down on the bullpen for the New York Mets.
- 17:54Sedecky has walked Daron Johnson and Joe List back to back here
- 17:58with two men out in the bottom of the first inning.
- 18:02Mitch Tim McArber is low for a ball.
- 18:08Now here comes pitching coach Rube Walker out to the mound.
- 18:12Pitching coach Rube Walker wiping perspiration
- 18:15as he comes out of the dugout, head for the mound.
- 18:18For a talk with Ray Sedecky.
- 18:21The Mets will fly on to Pittsburgh at the conclusion of this ballgame tonight.
- 18:33Tomorrow is an off day and they will then resume against the Pittsburgh Pirates
- 18:38on Friday night, a big series at Three Rivers Stadium.
- 18:42Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon,
- 18:46we'll be broadcasting and televising all three games from Pittsburgh this weekend.
- 18:52Then the Mets will be back at Chase Stadium in New York on Monday night
- 18:55to start a series of four consecutive games against the Chicago Cubs
- 18:59to close out the regular National League season, the finale set for a 7.05 p.m. start
- 19:05Thursday night, October 1st.
- 19:08Now here's a pitch that's low, Sedecky goes behind to it out of McArber.
- 19:18Mets started the night failing the Pittsburgh Pirates by three
- 19:22and the Chicago Cubs by one.
- 19:27Sedecky's pitch, flung on it on the ground to third, Joe Foy up for the ball,
- 19:31he'll go to first and in time, close play but McArber is out.
- 19:36So the Phil's got a run, on a hit there was an error, two walks and two left
- 19:41and at the end of an inning the score is the Phil's one and the Mets nothing.
- 19:47Plans for a mail order sale of Boston Reserve seats for a possible
- 19:50National League Championship Series at Chase Stadium have been announced for the Mets.
- 19:55Mail order applications for Boston Reserve seats must be postmarked on or after
- 20:00midnight Thursday, September 24th to be considered.
- 20:03Tickets will be sold only in two game shifts with a limit of two shifts per person.
- 20:08Upper stand reserves general admission seats are priced at $3 each, $6 per shift.
- 20:13Reserve seats are priced at $5 each, $10 per shift.
- 20:17Box seats are $7 each, $14 per shift.
- 20:20Mail orders for more than two shifts will not be considered.
- 20:23Only applications accompanied by a certified check, a money order,
- 20:27or a cashier's check will be considered and should be addressed to
- 20:30Post Office Box 1970, Lysing, New York, Zip Code 11352.
- 20:35Each order must include an additional dollar to cover the cost of mailing and handling.
- 20:40Championship Series is scheduled to open on Saturday, October 3rd
- 20:43in the City of the Eastern Division winning.
- 20:46After two games the title moves to Cincinnati over the Western Division champs.
- 20:50In the event the Championship Series is not played at Chase Stadium,
- 20:53tickets can be redeemed at any of the more than 300 branches of the Chase Manhattan
- 20:57or Manufacture's Hanover Trust Company Bank.
- 21:05Now the Mets come up in the top of the second inning and it's Don Glenn Dunnett.
- 21:14Glenn Dunnett is hitting 291. He has 20 home runs and 90 runs.
- 21:18And he's right hand batting.
- 21:20Facing left hand pitcher Chris Short.
- 21:22Into the motion. The pitch is on the way. Foul back and out of play is strike one.
- 21:31The appearance of Commissioner Buick-Kuhn here today had nothing at all to do with
- 21:36the activities of last night and the dispute that ensued.
- 21:41Here's a pitch. High and away for a ball.
- 21:44The commissioner has made it a practice to visit each of the ball parks in the Major League
- 21:48at least one time. His earlier visit scheduled here at County Max Stadium
- 21:53had to be postponed and was reset for today.
- 21:56Here's a one one pitch. Low and hit in front of the plate comes on by.
- 22:01And just by the plate umpire Dick Sello and the crowd gets a kick out of that.
- 22:05It's two balls and a strike.
- 22:07The Phillies are leading here by a score of one and nothing.
- 22:22Chris Short into the motion.
- 22:24Foul back and out of play. It's two and two to Clint Dunn.
- 22:37So the Phillies have announced that the last ball game to be played at County Max Stadium
- 22:42will be here on the night of October 1st when they'll meet the Montreal Expos.
- 22:50Two two pitch. Plung on it on the ground is short. A big hop up to Larry Borg.
- 22:55That's the Darren Johnson in time and Clint Dunn is out.
- 23:00Ron Swaboto is the batter. He's hitting 230 with nine almost and 40 runs that are done.
- 23:05There was an editorial today however in a Philadelphia newspaper which said
- 23:09don't take that enough but too seriously because the same announcement was made
- 23:13to the closing date last year.
- 23:15They had presumed that the Phillies would be playing in their new stadium this year
- 23:18and it didn't turn out that way. As a matter of fact right now all work has been stopped
- 23:23on the new stadium and there is no completion date, no projection.
- 23:27That is M. Brickall's strike.
- 23:30Swaboto appeared as a pinch hitter last night in the ninth against Selma and struck out on three pitches.
- 23:36This short delivers. Plung on and this hits strike two to Ron Swaboto.
- 23:57Elmer Carver sends out the sound. There's nobody on.
- 24:00First strike delivers. Tired a little low so it's one and two.
- 24:06Joe Foy waiting around there on deck.
- 24:16Take short takes his cap off to mop the first beration.
- 24:23One two three. Plung on and this got him with a breaking pitch.
- 24:28That is the first strike out for short. It's Swaboto swinging two away and Joe Foy is the batter.
- 24:34Foy is hitting 241 for the year. He's had six almost and 37 runs battered in.
- 24:58Very short with the pitch. Back ball low and it's ball one.
- 25:05There was a time when Chris Short was one of the slowest workers in Major League.
- 25:10He had back surgery and since he'd come back from the operation he worked considerably faster than he once did.
- 25:16That's M. Brickall's strike. Short used to be the master of moving the dirt around out on the mound.
- 25:22He'd move it over to one side and then over the other with his cue.
- 25:25Strange as I say this he's doing the same thing right now.
- 25:29But one year his teammates presented him with a set of toy gardener spools.
- 25:34They thought that he could do a little gardening out there.
- 25:37Has a fastball high and away for a ball. It's two and one.
- 25:41Two men out. Nobody on base and the field's lead by Escora one to nothing.
- 25:53Now the two on offering and there's F. Brickall's strike two. It's two and two to Joe Foy.
- 26:01And that's starting tonight with a record of 80 wins and 74 losses.
- 26:07The Cubs are 180 and lost 72 and the Pirates are 183 and lost 71.
- 26:13Two to delivery.
- 26:17Short strikes out Joe Foy.
- 26:21Gets the side in order. The Mets have not yet had a baserunner.
- 26:24Nothing is crossed and in the middle of the second inning the score is the Fills one and the Mets nothing.
- 26:31We've always maintained at the bank that our regular checking account is even better than money.
- 26:35It's safer more businesslike. You can mail a check and you can make deposits and withdrawals at any office of the bank.
- 26:42Anyway we wonder just how many people agreed with us that a regular checking account at the bank is even better than money.
- 26:49So we asked a few people. Excuse me madam I'm with the National Commercial Bank and Trust Company.
- 26:54So?
- 26:55Well I wonder madam can you think of anything that's even better than money?
- 26:58Well not on hand.
- 27:01Well we decided that maybe we were asking the question the wrong way so we tried it another way.
- 27:07Excuse me there would you say that a regular checking account at the bank is safer more convenient and more businesslike than money?
- 27:14Yes sounds pretty good to me.
- 27:18Well there you have it a regular checking account at the bank. It sounds pretty good to him.
- 27:25The National Commercial Bank and Trust Company is a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
- 27:32Company OKO the home of the Mets for the Capital District.
- 27:37The Sills will be coming up now in the second inning and it'll be Byron Brown the right fielder to lead off.
- 27:42They say Ray Tadecki Brown is hitting 250. 10 almost 36 runs added in.
- 27:47At the end of five full innings the Cardinals 2 and the Chubs 1.
- 27:51Ferguson Jenkins 20 and 15 against Bob Gibson 22 and 6.
- 27:56This is in for a called strike.

- 31:45Slung on and hit in the air up the alley on right center field.
- 31:48It'll be extra basis for Heisel.
- 31:50He's around first on his way to second.
- 31:52So a bowler up with the ball plays it back.
- 31:54It's a double for Larry Heisel.
- 31:56That ball went all the way to the scoreboard.
- 31:59Out in right center.
- 32:02And Quivota played it as it charmed off there.

- 33:07Some pitches that aren't tight.
- 33:09It's not entirely unusual for a pitcher to play more do than don't.
- 33:19Swinging the ground ball to third taken by Foy.
- 33:22He looks to run it.
- 33:23Throws to first in time.

- 34:422-1 is the count to Larry Bowie.
- 34:52Tick.
- 34:53Gets a little more tick.
- 34:54That's one of the things that make RC stand out from the other colas.
- 34:57A couple of steps and you'll catch the difference.
- 34:59Royale found colas.
- 35:02Swing and a ground ball.
- 35:03He's short.

- 36:09Come on home to WOKO.
- 36:13WOKO the home of the Mets for the capital district.
- 36:19100.
- 36:28We're going now to the top of the third.
- 36:30The Mets coming up running by one and here for the play by play Bob Murphy.
- 36:33All right Rob Jerry Grody will lead off against the veteran left hander Chris Short.
- 36:40Short has retired the first six men to face him.
- 36:44However the first two men up in the game Tommy Agee and Bud Harrelson both had hard line drives to the outfield overclocked.
- 36:52And the pitch to Jerry Grody is outside ball one.
- 36:56Chris Short the tall left hander from the University of Delaware.
- 37:01Out practically all of last year after undergoing back surgery.
- 37:06Has come back to win nine games this year.
- 37:09Had a fastball outside two balls and no strikes.
- 37:18Al Weiss the on deck batter and then Ray Sedecky.
- 37:25Short has set two very strong ball games against the Mets this year.
- 37:29And a line drive hit hard down the right field line a base hit by Jerry Grody.
- 37:34Jerry around first on his way to second and he pulls in with a double.
- 37:42Hard hit drive over the head of Darren Johnson down the right field line and into the corner.
- 37:49The Mets have their first base hit of the game and the tying run is on second.
- 37:58Al Weiss coming up Al batting at two ten.
- 38:08Now Chris Short looking in to get his sign from Jim McArthur.
- 38:14Here's the pitch on the way curve with the knees that cause strikes.
- 38:19The Chicago Cubs are out of the sixth inning in the same look.
- 38:23At the end of five and a half the Cardinals two and the Cubs one.
- 38:27Fishing duel between Ferguson Jenkins and Bob Gibson.
- 38:31Jenkins a 20 game winner.
- 38:32Gibson a 22 game winner.
- 38:35Jenkins has now won 20 or more four years in a row.
- 38:39And he's the only nice delayed pitcher who can say that.
- 38:43Had a foul ball hit back upstairs no play.
- 38:46Montreal got a run in the first inning off George Bruinette.
- 38:50Bruinette the left hander picked up from Washington has been working out of the bullpen.
- 38:54He gets his first start and a 16 game winner Carl Morton gets a United for Montreal.
- 39:01So the extra scratch down a run in the first inning at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh.
- 39:10Left hander Chris Short with a two strike count on Al Weiss.
- 39:15Jerry Grote on second nobody out.
- 39:18And the pitcher on the way fastball strike free call.
- 39:26First strike out for Chris Short as he gets Al Weiss and brings up Ray Sedecky.
- 39:33Sedecky a much better than average hitter for a pitcher.
- 39:37Especially against right handers but in the last game he's up against the left hander in Chris Short.
- 39:45The first pitching staff Ray Sedecky and Danny Fisela are both left hand hitters.
- 39:49Both do very well against right handers but have a lot of trouble against southpaw pitchers.
- 39:54And a ground ball hit down the first baseline foul.
- 39:57Taken across the line by Darren Johnson no play.
- 40:05The Phillies scored an unearned run in the first inning.
- 40:08And the Phillies lead one nothing we're in the top half of the third.
- 40:14They've done very well against the Phillies this year.
- 40:16They have won 12 of 17 ball games.
- 40:20An amazing thing the Phillies nine games over 500 against the Western Division National League teams this year.
- 40:28Against the Western Division they won 40 and lost 31.
- 40:33Inside and low to Ray Sedecky one ball one strike.
- 40:40And the weatherman says more hot weather to mouth.
- 40:51Chris Short with a count of one and one on Ray Sedecky.
- 40:54Grody the tying run on second one duff.
- 40:57And a chopper foul off to the left going toward the dugout of the Philadelphia Phillies no play.
- 41:03One ball and two strikes.
- 41:07The Cubs and Cardinals playing a double hitter.
- 41:09They were rained out last night.
- 41:10They waited a long time trying to get the game in.
- 41:18Second game of that double hitter in St. Louis tonight.
- 41:20It will probably be a rookie South Park Jerry Royce pitching for the Cardinals and Bill Hens for Chicago.
- 41:32Now short up in pitching position.
- 41:34The one two delivery.
- 41:35Swing and a miss.
- 41:36He's drug him out.
- 41:37He's got him with a breaking ball.
- 41:41Fourth strike out for Chris Short the 32 year old left hander.
- 41:45Now lead off batter Tommy Hachey comes up.
- 41:48And Tommy hit a long drive.
- 41:50The left center started the game off.
- 41:52That was caught on the dead run out of the edge of the warning flag by Larry Heintzler.
- 42:01Tommy had the game when he hit last night when he singled off Vic Selma in the ninth inning driving two runs in.
- 42:06This is RBI total for the year of the 73.
- 42:13Jody leading off second.
- 42:14Here's the pitch on the way.
- 42:15Sal back towards the screen.
- 42:16No play.
- 42:21It is not a large crowd by any means.
- 42:23It's not in my opinion.
- 42:24It is a loud crowd.
- 42:27The Mets again tonight have a lot of fans down from New York.
- 42:37All remaining games for the Phillies this year will be played here in County Mike City.
- 42:44Now the call left hander.
- 42:46Touch the runner.
- 42:47Here's the pitch to Tommy Hachey.
- 42:48Low and inside one ball and one strike.
- 42:55After the game tonight the Mets have three in Pittsburgh and four back in Chicago including the added game on Monday night the 28th.
- 43:05The Mets will play the Cubs Monday night, Thursday night, Wednesday afternoon and Thursday night.
- 43:10The Thursday night, October 1st game is kind of appreciation day.
- 43:13That game starts at 7.05 p.m.
- 43:16The 1-1 delivery hit hard.
- 43:18A face-hook to Sunnifield by Tommy Hachey.
- 43:28For Tommy Hachey, 74th run batted in.
- 43:31It tires the game up.
- 43:35And for Tommy Hachey, his 174th face-hook.
- 43:40And that tires the club record that had been held by Tommy Davis.
- 43:44174 hits in one face-hook.
- 43:50Hachey hit the ball very hard his first time up.
- 43:54And now this time he lands the ball hard in the center field.
- 43:57A clean base and bringing home Terry Grote.
- 44:00The game is tied 1-1.
- 44:01Top of the third inning, Bud House in the batter.
- 44:04Bud lined out the deep left his first time up.
- 44:08And it's over.
- 44:09The ball is a letter.
- 44:15Grote lead off with a line double down the right field line.
- 44:18Short then struck out, Al Weiss and Ray Sedecky.
- 44:21But Tommy Hachey delivering a two-out single up the middle
- 44:24ties the game up.
- 44:28At a throw to first, it is not in time.
- 44:31Filly receiving an eye on Tommy Hachey. Tommy has stolen 30 bases.
- 44:39Now Chris Short throws to first base.
- 44:42Did you notice that Tommy Harper joined a very select group?
- 44:46When he homeward yesterday, his 30th of the year, he also has stolen 30 bases.
- 44:51There goes the runner at a high fly ball hit the right center.
- 44:55Byron Brown moves over. He's under it and he has it for the out.
- 45:00One run, two hits, no errors, one left.
- 45:03In the middle of the third inning, the New York Mets won and the Philadelphia Phillies won.
- 45:11You know, nobody's ever met Ty Cobb's record for stolen bases.
- 45:16During his career, he managed to run up a total of 892.
- 45:20Well, stealing bases certainly is a tricky art.
- 45:24Your timing has to be just right or you'll be caught short in the middle.
- 45:28Timing is just as important when brewing a great beer.
- 45:32That's why Rheingold is the slow way.
- 45:36Long enough to let the beer carbonate itself naturally.
- 45:39And Rheingold is made with the finest natural ingredients.
- 45:43North Dakota barters, great American course, imported and domestic hops, and pure brewers water.
- 45:52So you get all that refreshing extra dry taste every time.
- 45:56Pour yourself a Rheingold right now. Natural Rheingold.
- 46:00And Rheingold Breweries, Inc., New York, New York, and Orange, New Jersey, ask you to help keep America beautiful.
- 46:20Tony Taylor faces ways for Becky, bottom half of the third inning.
- 46:24Taylor, more than any other Philly, has dealt damaging blows to the Mets during the course of the year.
- 46:30With the bases loaded, last night in the last of the eighth inning, he triple-drives and three runs in.
- 46:35He runs up as if the Bunch takes the pitch at the strike of the inside corner.
- 46:40And Tony Taylor did not like the call by Big Fellow and Fellow for the chip bank in the batter spot.
- 46:46It was a lively evening around here last night. Three of the Phillyers were ejected during the course of the ballgame, including the manager, Frank O'Casey.
- 46:58And it's over, Frank's free call to Tony Taylor.
- 47:04The Parish did not score against Carl Morton in the last of the first.
- 47:08At the end of one, Montreal won, Pittsburgh nothing.
- 47:14On the ground ball, it's slowly moving to his left go-for it, and he throws it across in time for the off.
- 47:19One out and nobody on. We par for station identification.
- 47:23This is the New York Mets baseball network.
- 47:25This is WOKL in Albany, New York. Our temperature now, 74 degrees.
- 47:30Cahoe savings bank time is 28 minutes past eight.
- 47:33Time to open a big dividend savings account at Cahoe Savings Bank with offices in Latham and Cahoe.
- 47:37This was Ralph Koerner and Lindsay Nopren.
- 47:40Last of the third inning, the game tied 1-1.
- 47:43For the facilities, the number three hitter, Don Money, faces Ray Sivecki.
- 47:47He bounced out the third, his only time up.
- 47:49At a drive, hit on the other right center field, it'll be a baser.
- 47:53Just beyond the reach of Al, why is he legged into the outfield trying to get a play?
- 48:03For the facilities, their third hit off, Ray Sivecki.
- 48:06And Darren Johnson comes up.
- 48:10Darren hitting 254, has 27 home runs, 87 runs, got it in.
- 48:16Here he's going to watch his first time up.
- 48:19Now the Mets have the infield looking for two in a stride around the left.
- 48:24That's ball outside, ball one.
- 48:26Let's play the outfield deep against Darren, who has a lot of power, and they're playing the stride or two-court left.
- 48:34Runs it in the hole, he's going to get a baser on their Don Money.
- 48:40Serve inside and low, two balls and no strides.
- 48:44Not a buzzer there in the ball park.
- 48:46Certainly not enough breeze to have any effect on the game at all.
- 48:55The 2-0 delivery, swing and a miss right there, and Johnson, two balls and one strike.
- 49:01New York one run on two hits, one air. Philadelphia one run, three hits, no air.
- 49:08The Cardinals lead the Cubs 2-1 in the fifth inning.
- 49:14Swing and a miss, 2-1-B.
- 49:16Dan Lewis has been at bat quite a while in the last of the fifth inning.
- 49:23Sometimes you're a fool, sometimes the transmission is just slow and coming through.
- 49:31Now the 2-2 delivery, high and away, ball three.
- 49:40Game time temperature tonight was 84 degrees.
- 49:48Now Money leads first, let's keep an eye on him, and Sadecki lobs the ball over to Klindetter.
- 49:55Let's see how Franklin Chase he has to play on.
- 49:58One man away, Money on third, three and two on Darren Johnson.
- 50:04At a throw to first, not in time.
- 50:13Sadecki in the second position.
- 50:14There goes the runner, here's the pitch lined hard, a base hit to left center field.
- 50:18A round second is Money, only play the third.
- 50:20Hagee fouling the ball back in.
- 50:22The Phillies have runners on first and third.
- 50:27And this is good group, Walker goes to grab the telephone.
- 50:37Darren Johnson on three and two with Money on the go, rips the ball hard in the left center field.
- 50:45Springs up to our left to rookie left fielder.
- 50:51Nolan Ryan gets up again in the bullpen.
- 50:57Lift the right hand batter.
- 51:01Coming off of a good year in the postman.
- 51:04The infield now hoping for a chance to make two and Sadecki is in trouble here on the bottom half of the third inning.
- 51:10Money on third, Johnson on first with one man out.
- 51:13Game tied one-one.
- 51:16Pass ball, strength one.
- 51:19Tim McIver beyond the game.
- 51:24Phillies now have four hits off Ray Sadecki.
- 51:29Sadecki checks the runners, now the pitch.
- 51:31Foul back toward the screen and Ray gets out in front with the two-stacks down.
- 51:41Tony Taylor, the leadoff batter, was retired.
- 51:44But Money is single to right center and on three and two with Money running, Darren Johnson hammered a hard single in the left center.
- 51:52Fill for runners on first and third.
- 52:01Sadecki getting it's time from Jerry Gooder.
- 52:08And the pitcher on the way just missed the outside corner, one ball and two strikes.
- 52:14Last time Sadecki faced the Phillies he beat them with a brilliant effort and he struck out Flaub along the way.
- 52:22Pitching one and two.
- 52:24High outside for him too.
- 52:26Brody walks through out in front of the plate.
- 52:34Nolan Ryan picked up the win and relief in the game last night and Ryan is back to work in the midst of open.
- 52:41Sadecki has been facing two batters last night.
- 52:44The 2-2 delivery outside ball three.
- 52:48Sadecki had a two-stack down and now the count is all the way out at three and two.
- 52:54Now we'll keep an eye on Darren Johnson the runner on first and see if he goes.

- 53:12Sadecki made the big play on three and two with Johnson running.
- 53:18Sadecki struck out Joe Liz.
- 53:20What a big one.
- 53:22Brody flops the throw to second.
- 53:24Patten lured money into the track.
- 53:26Money was caught between third and home and bagged out by Joe Foy.

- 55:23Brian slide to right his first time up batting two eighty four.
- 55:30One one delivery by short way outside his two balls and a strike.
- 55:36Ray Sabecki made a big play when he struck out Joe Liss on three and two.

- 55:50The two and one swing and a miss by a few balls and two strikes.
- 55:57Billy scored in the first inning as a result of a base hit and an error.
- 56:02Let's bag the game in the third inning on his double and a two ounce single by Tommy Avery.

- 57:08Interesting thing for Glendetta. He has 90 RBI's and 113 ballgames. His ratio certainly has been imperfect.
- 57:20And the pitch thrown to Don Glendetta. Fastball over, strike, deep ball.
- 57:26Two veteran left handers hooked up tonight here at County Mike's Stadium.
- 57:38Whole other year this short has been very tough on the message.
- 57:41Lifetime mark against the message. 11 wins and 5 losses.
- 57:46The first time he's delivered well hit fly ball to center field.
- 57:53Glendetta made good contact but he hit it straight away.
- 57:59Earlier this year in this ballpark Glendetta became the second man in the history of the ballpark to hit one over the outstriped center field wall.
- 58:07The only other performer to do it was Ricky Allen.
- 58:13And nobody on top of the fourth inning. A game even 1-1 in a battle around Swabota.
- 58:22High and away ball was.
- 58:25What a girl they have going out in St. Louis with a 220 game winner hooked up.
- 58:29Ferguson Jenkins against Bob Gibson.
- 58:32Cardinals leading 2-1 in the seventh.
- 58:38He holds up on the swings. That's in time. A great slow inside. Deep balls and no strikes.
- 58:44Brown was struck out his first handed back.
- 58:53First short has Jenkins over. Let's not walk about it.
- 58:58And a ground ball hits hard. The whole money comes up with it going off to his left.
- 59:02And so is my other veteran, Jackson.
- 59:04The next get on 1-2-3. No runs, no hits, no errors from none left.
- 59:09In the middle of the fourth inning at County Mass Stadium the New York Mets won the Philadelphia Phillies 1.

- 1:00:26Last of the fourth inning in Philadelphia, the Mets won and the Phillies won.
- 1:00:30The Phillies will have Tim McArthur leading off against Ray Sudeck.
- 1:00:35It will be Tim McArthur, Byron Brown and Larry Heissel, 6'7", at even the bodyguard.
- 1:00:42McArthur is 0-1. He bounced out to Joe Foer on the opening inning.
- 1:00:53Due to a broken hand, McArthur has played only 37 games this year. He's sitting at 243.
- 1:01:05Left-hander against left-hander, the pitch by Sudecky. Foul ball back under our broadcasting. Loosen out of play, Frank Watt.
- 1:01:19Sudecky had to work very hard in pitching out of trouble in the last inning.
- 1:01:24It's a hot night and Ray has thrown quite a few pitches.
- 1:01:29Brown ball hit hard through the middle of it. He's hit by McArthur.
- 1:01:33Foul and the eights here for the blips that back in.
- 1:01:36Five hits now for the Phillies and they have their leadoff batter on.
- 1:01:39Which means they'll once again raise Sudecky under the gun and will have to be reaching back for the extra.
- 1:01:49Well, they're going to the ninth inning in St. Louis with Bob Gibson and the Cardinals leading the Chicago Cubs and Ferguson Jenkins by a score of 2-1.
- 1:01:59The hitter is Byron Brown, the right fielder, and the breaking ball is over to strike one.
- 1:02:06Nolan Ryan is up for the third time in the next bullpen.
- 1:02:12Brown right hand batter. Foul hit back upstairs to counter strike two.
- 1:02:19Byron Brown hitting at 2-49. You have to be careful with him. He does have power.
- 1:02:27Larry Heisel gives the on deck batter.
- 1:02:32Sudecky takes his run in and has the pitch. Strike three called. He got it.
- 1:02:36Sudecky's third strike out and he gets Byron Brown on three pitches.
- 1:02:44With one away, the center fielder Larry Heisel will be stepping in.
- 1:02:48And Heisel hit a hard long double to right center his first time up.
- 1:02:56Heisel strikes out a lot, but when he makes contact, he is strong.
- 1:03:04Pitch by Sudecky. Swing and a miss. Strike one.
- 1:03:16That's one. That's the least one. Last and the fourth inning.
- 1:03:21Long drive. He's left and well back, well back and got a home run.
- 1:03:29A two run home run by Larry Heisel. And he hit it over the 410 pitch mark.
- 1:03:38So Heisel has been a quite doubled and hit a home run. And the Phillies are in front three to one.
- 1:03:45Heisel is a home run of the year. A line shot that exploded off the bat.
- 1:03:51It almost straight away in the center, just a little bit toward left center.
- 1:03:55Larry cleared the wall at the 410 mark.
- 1:04:02Heisel has been hurting the Mets in this series.
- 1:04:09And now Chris George steps in and now has a two run lead, a pitch by Sudecky.
- 1:04:15Down ball that is going foul down the third base line.
- 1:04:24Heisel's home run is tense. Last year as the Ritz side lined about half of the year he had 20 home runs.
- 1:04:35A pitch by Ray Sudecky and a shot to short. A one hopper handled by Brett Harrelson.
- 1:04:40Now he's straightened up, throws to Glendon and short is out.
- 1:04:44Low line drive and it was wicked. It directly towards Buddy Houser.
- 1:04:48He caught the hop right up in front of his face.
- 1:04:54Two outs and nobody on top of the batting order for the shortstop Larry Boer.
- 1:04:58Boer, a foot-fitter, has gone over two. Foul down to the catcher, bounce back to short.
- 1:05:04He's got a two-game lead in the series.
- 1:05:11Filly is three and the Mets one on a two run homer by Larry Heisel.
- 1:05:17Got a ground ball he's got to go for it. A third he's up with it.
- 1:05:20Throws to Glendon and the Filly is retired.
- 1:05:24But they regain the lead scoring two runs on two hits. No errors and then left on.
- 1:05:29At the end of four is the Filly three and the New York Mets one.
- 1:05:35To really appreciate our cigar you have to smoke their cigars.
- 1:05:39Go ahead, light up any other two-for-a-quarter cigar in America.
- 1:05:44Then light up a two-for-a-quarter White Owl New Yorker.
- 1:05:47Make a puff on their cigar. That's pretty good.
- 1:05:51Then take a puff on our White Owl New Yorker and see what you think.
- 1:05:55Do it a few more times. A puff on theirs, a puff on ours.
- 1:06:00A puff on theirs, and a puff on ours.
- 1:06:05If you think this is a good way to make a point, you're right.
- 1:06:09But don't take my word for it. Try it yourself.
- 1:06:12All you need is a White Owl New Yorker and any other two-for-a-quarter cigar in America.
- 1:06:17To really appreciate our cigar you have to smoke their cigar.
- 1:06:23That White Owl New Yorker. Our cigar.
- 1:06:27The fifth running here in Philadelphia.
- 1:06:42Filly's lead by four, three, one on high-field, two run homers.
- 1:06:46Joe Foy is facing Chris George. Foy was struck out.
- 1:06:49He's three-time up. Joe hitting 240 with six homers.
- 1:06:54Going in a miss for the High Heighters.
- 1:06:58Joe Hages has no one. Ryan continued to work in the bullpen,
- 1:07:02indicating he would put up a thin-killer if the next team gets somebody on.
- 1:07:07Quick seven and eight in the batting order due to him.
- 1:07:10Now it's high and Foy lays off one ball, one strike.
- 1:07:14The Mets scored a run in the third on a double by Grote. He had a two-hour single by Tommy Hages.
- 1:07:19Filly scored an unearned run in the first and then added two in the fourth inning on a high-field home run.
- 1:07:28Swing and a miss for the Bergen Ball, one and two.
- 1:07:34Jerry Grote on deck and then Al White.
- 1:07:39The Pirates got a run to tie up the Montreal Expos. They are tied one-to-one in the second.
- 1:07:48Swing and a miss for the WI. A fast ball of it is out.
- 1:07:52Foy goes down for the second time.
- 1:07:55Five strikeouts for Chris George, and the veteran left-hander appears to be throwing very hard.
- 1:08:03Now the hitter is Jerry Grote.
- 1:08:06Jerry has one of the two hits off Chris George and has scored the miss for us.
- 1:08:15It's all over in the St. Louis. The Cardinals defeated the Chubs in the first game of the double header, 2-1.
- 1:08:20Bob Gibson beating Ferguson Jenkins.
- 1:08:24A fast ball won. The amazing Bob Gibson has now won, 20-1 of his last 24 decisions.
- 1:08:31Gibson, in winning his 23rd game of the year, allowed the Chubs only two base hits.
- 1:08:38A fast ball to go to you, Frank. One ball and one strike.
- 1:08:41Here's the line of score of a St. Louis two runs, seven hits and no errors.
- 1:08:45The Chubs one run, only two hits and four errors.
- 1:08:48Both hitters went to the roots, Ferguson Jenkins and Bob Gibson.
- 1:08:52Gibson is now 23-6.
- 1:08:55At a drive in the air, the right center, cutting over Byron Brown, he has it.
- 1:09:02Lewis is in the center, Ferguson Jenkins is 120, lost 16.
- 1:09:16The Expos and the Pirates are in the top of the third and end of the year, tied 1-1.
- 1:09:21John Morton picking against veteran left-hander George Gruner.
- 1:09:26Kenny Singleton has come out on deck, going in the nose by Al White, strike one.
- 1:09:37Ray Sadeghi has scheduled a bad neck.
- 1:09:39Singleton is in the on deck circle.
- 1:09:42Two outs and nobody out.
- 1:09:46The ball drops underneath for a soft strike to Al White.
- 1:09:51And for a short looks like he's going to be hard to handle.
- 1:09:55He has not walked a man, struck out five, allowed just two hits.
- 1:10:01And the pitcher on the way, just got a piece of it, a foul ball, two strikes down to Al White.
- 1:10:15A trail, three to one, half of the fifth inning.
- 1:10:27And the pitcher on the way by Chris Short, a fast ball over, strike, three, throw.
- 1:10:31Al White has stopped looking for the second time.
- 1:10:34He has six strikeouts for Chris Short.
- 1:10:36No runs, no hits, no errors, and none left.
- 1:10:39And he's always traveled halfway in the middle of the fifth inning, the Philadelphia Phillies three, in the New York Mets one.
- 1:10:47A buck, a bone, a clam, friends, that's your dollar bill, your pin, or if it's five dollars, your sore buck is ten, a double sore, that's your twenty dollar bill.
- 1:10:56Eddie Edwards here with a financial glossary of the air, just a few of the inside expressions and jargon you might hear me use on the radio.
- 1:11:03And you know, listeners often recognize me on the street, and by golly, I'm telling you, they're wonderful folks.
- 1:11:08They'll come directly to me and say, Eddie, you're an investment man, a financial seller.
- 1:11:12Tell me, where can I invest my money and get a guaranteed yield on it?
- 1:11:15They'll ask me that, and in return I tell them about the bank book, yes, from the bank.
- 1:11:20The bank book pays you a guaranteed five percent per annum, that means per year, on your savings.
- 1:11:25The bank only requires an initial deposit of at least $500, only $500.
- 1:11:30Additional deposit of at least $100 and 90 days' written notice, if you want to make it with law.
- 1:11:35That's your bank book story, it has a golden cover, you know it's top quality class.
- 1:11:40The Bank, National Commercial Bank and Trust Company, is a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
- 1:11:49Nolan Ryan comes in the ballgame to take over the pitching last of the first inning.
- 1:11:54Ryan's last two outings in the release, he has saved the game for Danny Purceller.
- 1:11:58He was the winning pitcher last night, it was the best rally to the ninth inning to win it.
- 1:12:02Last night Nolan faced only two batters, retired both.
- 1:12:06One is seventh game of the year against Penn Lawson.
- 1:12:09For Nolan Ryan, this will be his fourth straight relief outing.
- 1:12:13He went to the bullpen on September the 13th.
- 1:12:23Tony Taylor, Don Money and Darren Johnson, two, three and four in the third of batting order to hit against Ryan.
- 1:12:29In the last half of the fifth inning, Ray Sadeghi did not have his good stuff going for him in the bank.
- 1:12:36Ray worked four innings, allowed three runs, picked up, walked through and struck out three.
- 1:12:41Ray was a little bit wild in the strike zone.
- 1:12:46Tony Taylor has singled a right center, he raced around the third when the ball got by,
- 1:12:51he was waiting for an error, then he came in on the ground back. Ryan's delivery is outside ball one.
- 1:13:06Every game virtually a must game for the New York Mets.
- 1:13:12And a fastball inside of the letters, two balls with no strikes for Tony Taylor.
- 1:13:17Tony Taylor hitting two ninety-three.
- 1:13:24And a line drive down the right field line, a face-tip rolling deep down into the corner,
- 1:13:29being pursued by Ryan Svoboda.
- 1:13:31And Tony Taylor eased within the second with a double.
- 1:13:37Taylor hitting late against Ryan's fastball, hit a right of the sun-drying set and paribied out of breath.
- 1:13:43It was hit hard and went flying down into the corner.
- 1:13:51By the way, if you're thinking of starting up a savings or checking account,
- 1:13:54drop into any convenient Chase Manhattan branch.
- 1:13:57Remember you've got a friend at Chase Manhattan, member of the FDIC.
- 1:14:02Don Money, the third baseman, has one for two, single his last time out.
- 1:14:10Swing and a miss, strike one.
- 1:14:14Money is hitting three oh two.
- 1:14:17After Money got his base hit, Johnson followed with a base hit, putting runners on first and third.
- 1:14:22Didn't seem a big play in the ball game.
- 1:14:25But I think he struck out Joe Lipson three and two and they caught Money.
- 1:14:32Wild Pits goes all the way to the backstop.
- 1:14:34And moving over to third, Tony Taylor.
- 1:14:37Ryan on his third, uncorked to Wild Pits.
- 1:14:40In the counters, one and one, the runner goes to third.
- 1:14:43And Gell-Heit just gets Ryan Herbal up in the bullpen.
- 1:14:46Now the Mets have to bring the infield in.
- 1:14:51It's always good to get bounties to the hitter.
- 1:14:59Going right into his lineup, here's the pitcher on the way.
- 1:15:02High fly ball, it's a deep right field.
- 1:15:04It will score a run.
- 1:15:06Taylor is tagged up, Ceboda makes the catch.
- 1:15:08Here comes the throw by Ron Ceboda.
- 1:15:10He's threw it completely over the head.
- 1:15:12Very good.
- 1:15:14He knew he had to make a very impossible run.
- 1:15:19Because he was out there pretty deep.
- 1:15:21So Ron is trying to get even more than he possessed on the throw.
- 1:15:25So it completely over-drowed his head.
- 1:15:31It was a desperation try because Ron knew he was that far out of the infield.
- 1:15:38Gell-Heit's lead by three.
- 1:15:39He's got a run four to one.
- 1:15:40Sacrifice fly and a run batted in for Don Money.
- 1:15:49A hard ground ball by Darren Johnson through the hole.
- 1:15:52Right field for a base hit.
- 1:15:54And then Johnson with Ryan Herbal first pitch and the right for a green finger.
- 1:16:00And Owen Ryan runs into trouble as he takes over the pitcher in the last of the fifth inning.
- 1:16:04Ryan Herbal throwing hard in the bullpen and here comes Gil Hodgeman.
- 1:16:09Gil Hodgeman is on his way to the mound.
- 1:16:14Ryan has faced three men.
- 1:16:16All three have hit the ball hard.
- 1:16:18Taylor doubled on the right field line.
- 1:16:21Money hit a fly ball to rather deep right field getting the run home.
- 1:16:24And Darren Johnson has singled a ride and Gil Hodgeman takes the ball.
- 1:16:28So Ron Herbal comes in the ballgame.
- 1:16:31He will be the third pitcher called on by the New York Mets.
- 1:16:36The facilities in front by score of four to one, bottom half of the fifth inning.
- 1:16:43And while we're waiting on Ron Herbal to come in, let's check with Ralph Koehner and get updated on the other major league actions.
- 1:16:50All right Bob Murphy, first let's pause for station identification.
- 1:16:54This is the New York Mets baseball network.
- 1:16:56This is WOKO in Albany, New York. Our temperature is 74 degrees. Cahoe's savings bank time, 2 to 9.
- 1:17:01Time to take advantage of student loans at Cahoe's savings bank.
- 1:17:08Ralph Koehner along with Bob Murphy and Lindsay Nelson from Johnny Maxx Stadium in Philadelphia.
- 1:17:13That's trailing by a score of four to one as the Phillies bat in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- 1:17:19The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs in the first game of their twilight doubleheader.
- 1:17:232 to 1 as Bob Gibson took the two hitter. It was his 23rd and when he's lost six.
- 1:17:28The losing pitcher was Ferguson Jenkins. His record 20 and 16.
- 1:17:32Cubs made four errors in that ball game as the St. Louis Cardinals scored two runs in the second and made them hold up as the Cubs got one run in the fourth.
- 1:17:41At the end of three, San Diego nothing, Atlanta nothing.
- 1:17:45At the end of two, it's Cincinnati four, Houston nothing.
- 1:17:48San Francisco scheduled against Los Angeles and at Pittsburgh at the end of two and a half innings, Montreal one.
- 1:17:53The Pittsburgh Pirates won.
- 1:17:55Raoul Morton 16 and 11 going for the Etpo, George Winnett 0 and 0 going for the Pirates.
- 1:18:01In the American League at the end of three, the Yankees three, Washington one, Coleman and Rob Gardner working that ball game.
- 1:18:08Dick Billings got a home run in the third with no one on for Washington in the first of the year.
- 1:18:12Cleveland beat Boston five to two when he picked it with Hargan, Harrelson, Fuller and Lulú at home run.
- 1:18:19White Sox beat Kansas City six nothing as the winning pitcher was Bart Johnson to five hitter.
- 1:18:24California scheduled against Milwaukee, Detroit, Baltimore four times because of the dark power toward him.
- 1:18:30And Minnesota against Oakland.
- 1:18:34All right, Rob, go left the left fielder, right hand batter is up against Ron Herbal. Herbal throws over to first keeping an eye on Darren Johnson.
- 1:18:42Herbal leads the National League in a parry.
- 1:18:45And a foul ball is back in the series with no play.
- 1:18:49For Ron Herbal who has won nine and lost six this year, this marks his 73rd ball game.
- 1:19:00Ron Herbal.
- 1:19:05And a throw to first by Herbal.
- 1:19:16And Gary Gentry is getting up in the bullpen.
- 1:19:20The pitch by Herbal, breaking ball in for a goal strike.
- 1:19:24The Phillies leading four to one, last in the fifth inning. They have Darren Johnson on first base with one man out.
- 1:19:30The batter is still left the left fielder, he's a right hand hitter.
- 1:19:34And he holds up on his swing and a jump miss inside.
- 1:19:38One ball and two strikes.
- 1:19:48Ron Herbal off the stretch, foul ball back to the screen, no play.
- 1:19:59The Expos and the Parrots are tied 1-1 with a bus hitting in the third.
- 1:20:04Bob Gibson won his 23rd.
- 1:20:07Gibson got off to a slow start with Gary with 2-3 on the 18th of May.
- 1:20:12Now he's 23 in the sixth.
- 1:20:17Pitching one and two.
- 1:20:19Under the knees, the count is even on Joe Liff and Herbal thought he had him strug out.
- 1:20:32The Parrots are out on the last of the third inning, it's 1-1 if you're in the three.
- 1:20:37Swing and a miss, he's strugging out.
- 1:20:39Ron Herbal strikes out Joe Liff.
- 1:20:44And away the batter coming up, Kim McArthur.
- 1:20:47McArthur single to center field in the fourth inning and later scored a run.
- 1:20:51The veteran backstab has one for two.
- 1:20:58Billy has got two in the fourth inning on the two run homer by Larry Heissel.
- 1:21:02And they have added a run off Nolan Ryan here in the fifth.
- 1:21:08And a high pop up off McArthur's back.
- 1:21:10Boy he cuts down the line and fouls round.
- 1:21:14Near the fungo circle he makes the catch and the side is out.
- 1:21:17So Herbal comes in to get the Phillies out.
- 1:21:21One run, two hits, no errors and one left.
- 1:21:24At the end of five in Philadelphia it's the Phillies four and the New York Mets one.

- 1:22:38And to tell you all about it and follow the action for you, here is Ralph Koehner.
- 1:22:42All right Bob Murphy, the Mets trailing by three with four innings to go.
- 1:22:46And a pen-killer for the pitcher Ron Herbal is Ken Singleton.
- 1:22:50Out in the bullpen, Gary Gentry, he'll be the next man for the Mets.
- 1:22:54Chris Short who has given up one run allowed to it while striking out six at the go.
- 1:22:59And the left-hander's first pitch to Singleton.
- 1:23:02High at fastball, missing ball one.
- 1:23:05Singleton batting right-handed.
- 1:23:09Batting 258 for the year with five home runs and 26 runs batted in.
- 1:23:15Short has not walked the batter in the left-hander back and the pitch is lined over first to base it.
- 1:23:21Singleton goes to first base and holds there as the right fielder Byron Brown feels the ball.
- 1:23:26And the Mets have one on with no one out.
- 1:23:29And the batter coming up is Tommy A.G.
- 1:23:31Tommy has accounted for the Mets run when he singled the center field to drive in Jerry Grote back in the third after Grote had doubled.
- 1:23:38A base hit by A.G. came with two men out.
- 1:23:40His first time up he was robbed of an extra base hit by Larry Heiselman deep center field.
- 1:23:46A.G. hitting 281. He has 74 RBI, 24 home runs.
- 1:23:59Now short from the set position.
- 1:24:04And the first pitch to A.G. A.G. tries to bun it, but it's foul out of play.
- 1:24:09Strike one. Tommy trying to get on, trying to get money back deep at third.
- 1:24:15So one strike out.
- 1:24:19Cubs are losing their ball game. Now one-half game ahead of the Mets.
- 1:24:24A record of 80 wins and 73 losses and that's a 180 and lost 74.
- 1:24:32They are now two-and-a-half games back of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 1:24:36And they have one more to play tonight.
- 1:24:39One strike out. Short again in the set position and the fifth.
- 1:24:44A.G. swings and fouls the ball over toward the Mets dugout going over to Derren Johnson.
- 1:24:48The ball's ripping out of play into the stands just out of his reach.
- 1:24:53So A.G. with a two-strike count.
- 1:24:59After this ball game, the Mets have seven to play.
- 1:25:02Three with the Pittsburgh Pirates and four with the Chicago Cubs.
- 1:25:05This is game number 165.
- 1:25:08This is a 155.
- 1:25:18Two-strike count. There are a lot of Mets fans here in this ballpark.
- 1:25:25Singleton is not being held on at first base. Johnson's playing about three steps behind him.
- 1:25:30And the fifth is outside, ball one.
- 1:25:32This is George fighting a fastball outside to count one ball and two strikes.
- 1:25:36George this year making his 33rd start. He has one-nine and lost 15.
- 1:25:41Against the Mets he has one-two and lost one this year.
- 1:25:45This time he has defeated the Mets by 11 times.
- 1:25:50The Mets have gotten him five.
- 1:25:54George, better enough to enter the one-two fifth.
- 1:25:57It is lying in the center of a pitch.
- 1:25:59I go for extra bases. It goes on through.
- 1:26:02Singleton on his way to third. He is being held up at third.
- 1:26:05And A.G. goes in with a double.
- 1:26:08So a line shot by the center fielder just to shade toward right center.
- 1:26:12That ball hit so hard that Heiso had no chance to get to it.
- 1:26:15And the Mets now have the tying run coming to the plate and the batter is Bud Harrelson.
- 1:26:21Going out on the top of the sixth inning and the conference at the mound.
- 1:26:25Frank Lucchese, the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, is about to talk to his pitcher.
- 1:26:34Bill Wilson is now getting out the throw in the bullpen and I believe Grant Jackson is going to join him.
- 1:26:40It is Grant Jackson, a left-hander, along with Bill Wilson, a right-hander.
- 1:26:45Mets trying to get back in this ball game.
- 1:26:49A.G. during his best yesterday, two for five, a two big run better than the one in the ball game.
- 1:26:53Here tonight he's two for three.
- 1:27:00Harrelson out deep to left his first time up and he's right out to right his next time up.
- 1:27:06Four for two and short into the windup. Here's the pitch.
- 1:27:10It's way inside a ball. Ball knocked down by McArthur.
- 1:27:18Phillies with their infield back.
- 1:27:20That's short and second in at first and third.
- 1:27:24They lead four to one.
- 1:27:26And that's better for the Mets, Cleon Jones.
- 1:27:30Now short and odd just goes into the windup and the one-oh pitch.
- 1:27:34It is over for a called strike.
- 1:27:36Pitch over the inside corner, a fastball, and they count one ball and one strike.
- 1:27:45But it's oh for three in this series. Last night he had three walks.
- 1:27:50He has set a new Met record for walks in the season.
- 1:27:58Total of ninety. One-one pitch, rounded foul, and the count goes up to one and two.
- 1:28:13Here's short, turns his back to the plate, looks out toward center field.
- 1:28:17Check this spike now. Does a little ground work in front of the pitching rubber.
- 1:28:23And then looks in for the sign. One ball, two strikes.
- 1:28:32Now he steps back off the rubber and Bud Harrelson steps out of the batting block.
- 1:28:36Time call.
- 1:28:40Now Harrelson back in and short. Ready to go.
- 1:28:43Here's the windup and pitch.
- 1:28:45It is inside. Bud takes a close pitch, two balls, two strikes.
- 1:28:58Short has had seven complete games this year with his nine wins.
- 1:29:06Again he takes the sign, goes into the windup. Here's the pitch.
- 1:29:09It is taken inside and oh and the count's full now. Three and two to Bud Harrelson.
- 1:29:14Bud represents the potential tying run in this ballgame. No one out.
- 1:29:19Top of the sixth inning. Leon Jones on deck.
- 1:29:30Runners not too far off. Here's the pitch.
- 1:29:33It has hit hard down in the hole. In through to left field.
- 1:29:36Singleton starts in third. He had held up to see whether or not the ball would be caught by the shortstop Larry Boyd.
- 1:29:43He goes to third. So the Mets get a run. A run batted in for Bud Harrelson. His forty-second.
- 1:29:48The tying run is at first. No one out. And with runners at first and third, Leon Jones comes up.
- 1:29:59Leon is 0-2 in the ballgame.
- 1:30:09Jones has flat out the right field. Rotted out to third. He has 0-4-5 in this series.
- 1:30:14Average dropping down to 2-83.
- 1:30:22And time call as Chris Short goes out to pick up some paper out in front of the mound.
- 1:30:38Now Short ready to go. The first pitch to Jones. Taken high and away of fastball missing ball one.
- 1:30:50One ball, no strikes. Jones being played straight away by the outfield. More or less grouped the state toward the alley.
- 1:30:58Both in left and right. Now the pitch. High and outside again. Two balls, no strikes.
- 1:31:07Bill Wilson, the right-hander, throwing in the bullpen for the Phillies along with left-hander Grant Jackson.
- 1:31:14The on deck batter for the Mets, John Glenn-Denham.
- 1:31:21AGI at third. Charlton at first. And the 2-0 pitch. It is flung on and hit foul in the air out of play on the first base side. Another count, two balls, one strike.
- 1:31:39Ron Stone, an outfielder going down to the bullpen to probably warm up. He has a great arm.
- 1:31:45Montreal got a run on the top of the second. Fourth. They now lead 2-1 after three and a half innings. Montreal to Pittsburgh one.
- 1:31:52The pitch to Jones. Breaking ball high, ball three.
- 1:31:58Jones is counting his way. Three balls, one strike.
- 1:32:07Charlton with a short lead at first base. Short with the pitch. Charlton holds the pitch inside. Ball four and that loads up the bases.
- 1:32:17That puts the time on its second with no one out. And it brings up the Mets RBI man, John Glenn-Denham.
- 1:32:24And now Frank Lucasi is going out to the mound and we will have a pitching change.
- 1:32:37Possible chance that an outfielder will go in the ball game as the pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies will be due up in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- 1:32:45And that way they can put the batting order in position for the pitcher not to be involved in hitting the bottom of the sixth.
- 1:32:54Now coming in is Bill Wilson. Bill Wilson who pitched in last night's ball game. Wilson last night worked two and a third innings, gave up no runs, allowed one hit, struck out two and walked one.
- 1:33:08So they are making an outfield change. Coming out of the ball game Joe Liss, the left fielder, and Stone is going in. Ron Stone to play left field.
- 1:33:18And they will switch batting positions with Stone batting in the pitching position, the ninth position in the batting order.
- 1:33:25And going out of court the pitcher will bat in Joe Liss' spot which was number five. And as the pitchers make this change, let's check out the action in the national and the American League with Bob Murphy.
- 1:33:39In the fourth inning of Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Montreal, 2, Pittsburgh, 1.
- 1:33:45And now Morton 16 and 11, the Montreal Pitchers. Veterans South Quad, George Burnett making his first start for the Panthers.
- 1:33:55As Bob Gibson hurled a two-hitter, the Cardinals defeated the Cubs 2-1 in the first game of the doubleheaders, making up last night's Green-Dot game.
- 1:34:02The Cardinals scored both of their runs in the second on back-to-back singles by Luis Melendez and Ted Simmons. Melendez scored on an error by Ron Sato and Simmons scored on a single by Julian Javier.
- 1:34:15The only hits given up by Gibson were a triple by Beckard and a single by Puppetton.
- 1:34:20Gibson won his 23rd. He now has won 21 of his last 24. Ferguson's intending to lose it.
- 1:34:27In the second game, it'll be Bill Hamm, 17 and 13, against Jerry Royce, the Ricky Roughbender, 6 and 8.
- 1:34:34San Diego, 1. Atlanta, nothing at the end of the fourth.
- 1:34:37Cincinnati, 4. Houston, nothing in the third inning.
- 1:34:40Later tonight, the Giants and Dodgers in Los Angeles.
- 1:34:44Yankees, 3. Washington, 1. At the end of the fourth, Coleman against Rob Gardner.
- 1:34:51Cleveland beat Boston 5-2, stopping the Red Sox winning a three-target in the winter, Brett Saluzer.
- 1:34:58Hawkeye Olsen hit a home run, as did Vern Fuller and Joe LaHoodle, the Red Sox.
- 1:35:02The White Sox blanked the Royals, 6 to nothing.
- 1:35:05And the other games are just getting underway, and the Tiger-Ballimore game was postponed because of the power shortage.
- 1:35:11Now we're up for the action here, a big moment for the Mets.
- 1:35:14That all set to follow it for you, Ralph Koenig.
- 1:35:17All right, Bob Murphy, the base is loaded. John Glenn, then, in the batter, no one out top of the 6.
- 1:35:23The Mets need two to tie.
- 1:35:25And then, as grounded out and flied out.
- 1:35:29Right hand batter, he leads the club and runs better than with 90.
- 1:35:33Batting at 290, and the first pitch by Bill Olsen is inside the ball.
- 1:35:38Olsen with a record of one win and no losses, making his fifth appearance against the Mets.
- 1:35:45He was in last night's ballgame, worked two in the third inning, gave up one hit and no runs.
- 1:35:50He has a record of one and all.
- 1:35:53There's a hard smash to short. It'll be a double play.
- 1:35:56The ball over to Taylor covering at second base, and the throw to first base, a double play.
- 1:36:02On the play, the Mets get a run, as AG scores from third base.
- 1:36:07That was a one-hop drive, right at Larry Bore, the shortstop.
- 1:36:11He took it, and from there on, it was a routine play. They had all the time in the world to make the double play.
- 1:36:17And the Phillies pick up two quick outs.
- 1:36:20So, Wilson on one pitch, picking up two outs.
- 1:36:24And now coming up for the Mets is Ron Cibota. They trail by one.
- 1:36:28Ron represents the time run. He is not going to bat.
- 1:36:31He has been called back, and we're going to have Dave Marshall bat for Ron Cibota.
- 1:36:36That ball was in.
- 1:36:41Right on the nose, but right at Larry Bore, the shortstop.
- 1:36:45No run batted in on the double play.
- 1:36:49Dave Marshall coming up.
- 1:36:52Dave, hitting.257, has six home runs, 29 runs batted in.
- 1:36:57That run will be charged to Chris Short.
- 1:37:00But at this point, he can win the ballgame.
- 1:37:03He worked five innings, and the Phillies lead four to three with no one on.
- 1:37:08Pardon me, on the play, Harrelton went to third, so he cannot win the ballgame if Harrelton scores.
- 1:37:18Dave Marshall, left hand batter, stepping in the batter's box.
- 1:37:25Bill Wilson.
- 1:37:28Checking the signs. He's working from the set position, not taking any chances.
- 1:37:33On Harrelton, the third, the first pitch in there for a golf strike.
- 1:37:42One strike down.
- 1:37:44Marshall has had two pinch hit home runs this year.
- 1:37:49Now Wilson back, and the pitch is high for a ball at one ball and one strike.
- 1:38:04One ball, one strike, Wilson's set, here's the pitch.
- 1:38:07It's way outside, ball two, two and one.
- 1:38:20Now the signs go out.
- 1:38:23Marshall checks, goes in the set position, checks Harrelton at third, and the 2-1 delivery.
- 1:38:30It is flung on and fouled back out of play.
- 1:38:33Two man out, goes to two balls and two strikes.
- 1:38:43Two balls, two strikes, the tying run is at third base.
- 1:38:47Two man out, top of the sixth inning.
- 1:38:57The score is, to tonight, 5,683.
- 1:39:03And a 2-2, the pitch to Marshall. It is over, a call, strike three.
- 1:39:06And Wilson does quite a job in relief.
- 1:39:08He gets Don Glendinander to hit into a double play with a base as ordered, and strikes out Dave Marshall.
- 1:39:14In the inning, the Mets score two runs on three hits.
- 1:39:19No air, one man left on, and the score in the middle of the sixth inning, the Phillies four, the Mets three.

- 1:40:14We are only a stranger once on WOKO's Charles Douglas Pitts Show.
- 1:40:19Music
- 1:40:2574 degrees in the capital of the state of WOKO.
- 1:40:30We're going to the bottom of the sixth.
- 1:40:33The Phillies leading by a score of four to three, and Gary Gentry is the new pitcher in the ball game for the Mets.
- 1:40:38Ray Tadecki started when four-on-one was dropped with three runs. He gave up six hits, stuck out three, walked through.
- 1:40:44Nolan Lyon was dropped with one run, giving up two hits in one-third of an inning.
- 1:40:48Ron Herbal gave up no hits in no runs in two-thirds of an inning.
- 1:40:51We're taking out for a pinch hitter, when the Mets rallied to get back in the ball game.
- 1:40:56And now Gary Gentry. Gary with a record of nine wins and nine losses.
- 1:41:00This is his 31st appearance.
- 1:41:03Music
- 1:41:09And with a right-hander coming in, Byron Brown scheduled up.
- 1:41:13The Phillies are going to a platoon system, and Oscar Gamble is going to take over for Brown in the outfield and pinch hit for him.
- 1:41:21The Mets have left Ken Singleton in the ball game. He's single to start up the rally.
- 1:41:25And of course, he is a quick hitter, and that would give the advantage if they do change pitches later on in the ball game.
- 1:41:32Singleton can bat either way.
- 1:41:35Oscar Gamble, a left hand batter.
- 1:41:38In last night's ball game, Gamble had two hits in four trips to the plate, one of them in triples.
- 1:41:45Music
- 1:41:55Gamble hitting 263, has one home run, 18 runs batted in.
- 1:42:00And the first pitch by Gentry, low and away, ball one.
- 1:42:03Music
- 1:42:08Phillies, ball runs, eight hits. No errors. The Mets have three runs, five hits, and one error, and the one error talks them around.
- 1:42:15And here's the swing and the miss, and they count one ball and one strike.
- 1:42:18Music
- 1:42:26Now the 1-1 delivery. It is hit out towards second right at Ken Boswell, a soft line drive, and Ken Owl-White, and Owl makes the catch.
- 1:42:38That'll bring up Larry Heisdahl with his two run home run, and it broke a 1-1 tie back in the fourth inning.
- 1:42:45Heisdahl is two for two in this ball game, a double and a home run.
- 1:42:49The average for the year 2004, he has 10 home runs, 22 doubles, 43 RBI.
- 1:42:56Music
- 1:42:59He also has struck out 136 times this year, and there's the swing and the miss strike one.
- 1:43:04He has played in 119 ball games and has struck out 136 times.
- 1:43:10Music
- 1:43:12In last night's ball game, he had a triple and three times up. Next pitch is a ball, and they count one ball and one strike.
- 1:43:20Gentry in his 31st appearance.
- 1:43:27Now swing and a miss, and it's strike two. One ball, two strikes.
- 1:43:33This is Gentry's third relief appearance.
- 1:43:42Willis for Metzree, one out, bottom of the sixth. The next pitch, a half swing, and it's called a ball.
- 1:43:51Heisdahl checked in time, and counts two balls, three strikes.
- 1:44:04Now Gentry leans in, checks out Gotee signs, goes into the windup, and the 2-2 pitch.
- 1:44:10It is inside, ball three, and Gentry, three and two to Larry Heisdahl.
- 1:44:15Juan Stone is the on deck batter, batting in the ninth position.
- 1:44:20Chicago nothing, St. Louis nothing in the second game. Bill Hands against Jerry Royce.
- 1:44:27First game Cardinals won two to one as Gibson pitched a two hitter.
- 1:44:31Now swinging a foul back, so the count remains three and two.
- 1:44:44This last game, everything goes according to schedule, Everett County Mac Stadium.
- 1:44:56Ballpark built back in 1909.
- 1:45:01Now Gentry taking time before checking the signs, and again his three to five.
- 1:45:09And he's been missed in high school, struck out for the 137th time this year.
- 1:45:15At the end of four, Montreal to Pittsburgh one.
- 1:45:18Pittsburgh did not score in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- 1:45:21Carl Morton pitching for the X-Bowls against George Brunette for the Bire.
- 1:45:25Now with two minutes, Ron Stone steps up for the first time.
- 1:45:39Stone hitting 267, he has three home runs, 38 runs batted in.
- 1:45:43He has played in 116 games.
- 1:45:46And the fifth by Gentry, a change up, it's over, called strike.
- 1:45:53Filly for the Mets three, two men out, bottom of the sixth.
- 1:46:07Boyd being moved back to a deeper third base position by the Mets bench.
- 1:46:12Now again a change up, this one even slower than the first and it is high and away.
- 1:46:17One ball, one strike.
- 1:46:21The Mets have been in the top of the game, they have won 28 and lost 23, best in the league.
- 1:46:26By 51, one run ball game.
- 1:46:32Now at one-one, the pitch is outside, a fastball missing, two balls, one strike.
- 1:46:49Gentry back, pitch is going on a miss, a fastball, two and two.
- 1:47:03And then on that first base, Weiss at second, Harrelson at short, Boyd third, two-two delivery.
- 1:47:10It is a curve ball, a check in the swing, just low and the count goes full of three and two.
- 1:47:16Both pitch, but a ball in the outfield, Leon Jones on left, Tommy Agee in center, Ron Cervota in right.
- 1:47:31Now the wind up and three-two pitch.
- 1:47:34It's at the deep right center, extra bases going over his, Agee playing the ball off the wall,
- 1:47:40dropping it, picking it up, but Stone stays at second base as Agee Strong's ball goes all the way to third.
- 1:47:46So a three-two pitch and a double by Ron Stone and the Phillies have a runner at second with two men out.
- 1:47:52And Larry Bowe coming up.
- 1:47:55And we pause for station identification.
- 1:47:57This is the New York Mets baseball network.
- 1:47:59This is WOKO in Albany, New York.
- 1:48:01Our temperature 74 degrees, Cahoe Savings Bank time, 28 past nine.

- 1:48:17They have a runner at second and Larry Bowe are coming up.
- 1:48:21Offer to the mound between Gary Grote and Gary Gentry.
- 1:48:28Now Grote back to give out the sign.
- 1:48:34Boy is 0 for 3 in this ballgame.
- 1:48:36He brought an 18-game heading streak into the game and he's batting from the left-hand side of the plate for the first time.
- 1:48:42Boy hitting 2-51 for the year.
- 1:48:462 for 3 last night.
- 1:48:48And Gentry's fifth.
- 1:48:49It is low and outside of all.
- 1:48:57Gentry with a record of nine wins and nine losses.
- 1:49:03And the right-hander sets up.
- 1:49:06The 1-0 delivery.
- 1:49:08Ball 2.
- 1:49:09This time outside but high and two balls, no sight.
- 1:49:13Phillies now have nine base hits in this ballgame.
- 1:49:16They have had runners on in every inning.
- 1:49:18Left two on in the first one and they're scoring an earned run.
- 1:49:21Left one on in the second.
- 1:49:23A double play got them out of a jam and a serve and they had two men on.
- 1:49:32Now the 2-0 fifth.
- 1:49:34Fastball over, called strike.
- 1:49:36In the fourth inning they got two runs and a single and a home run.
- 1:49:42In the fifth inning they got a run on two hits and left one on.
- 1:49:46And here they have a runner at second.
- 1:49:48They count two and one, two men away.
- 1:49:54And the third-side Gentry.
- 1:49:56Inside a ball.
- 1:49:59And they count three balls and one strike.
- 1:50:01Tony Taylor is the on-deck batter.
- 1:50:06He has been hot in the ballgame two to three with two runs scored.
- 1:50:16Three balls, one strike.
- 1:50:18Gentry sets.
- 1:50:19And the pitch.
- 1:50:21Ben Brook all strike and the count goes full to three and two.
- 1:50:24Gentry has been three and two on his last three batters.
- 1:50:35Now the sign is out.
- 1:50:37Gentry sets.
- 1:50:38And the pitch.
- 1:50:39Swung on and foul-tipped and the goatee's dog and strike three.
- 1:50:43Gentry strikes out two in the inning, surviving the double.
- 1:50:47No runs on the one hit.
- 1:50:49And one man left on.
- 1:50:51And the score.
- 1:50:52At the end of sixth, the Phillies bore the New York Mets three.
- 1:50:56I am a going on and on journey.
- 1:51:03I will be following the spring.
- 1:51:08It is high time that I was searching for the natural things.
- 1:51:17At Rangold, we brew beer with the natural things.
- 1:51:20We believe a glass of beer should be a simple thing made with natural ingredients.
- 1:51:24Good water, North Dakota barley, Great American corn, imported in domestic hops, and thyme.
- 1:51:31That simple thing that lets Rangold carbonate itself naturally.
- 1:51:34If you wonder why Rangold Extra Dry tastes better than other beers,
- 1:51:38it's because we need a simple and natural, natural Rangold.
- 1:51:42It is high time that I was searching for the natural things.
- 1:51:52Rangold Breweries, Inc., New York, New York, and Orange, New Jersey, ask you to help keep America beautiful.
- 1:51:58WOKO, The Sound of America, Albany, New York, 28 minutes before 10.
- 1:52:06We're going out of the top of the seventh inning.
- 1:52:08The Mets trailing by a score of 4 to 3. The Phillies have Oscar Gamble in right field.
- 1:52:12He was a pinch hitter for Byron Brown.
- 1:52:17The Mets are going to pinch hit for Joel Foy as Wayne Garrett comes up with the play.
- 1:52:22Foy had struck out his first few times up.
- 1:52:26Garrett a left hand batter, batting 2-51.
- 1:52:35Last night's ballgame, Wayne had two hits and five times up, but it was a big hit, a double.
- 1:52:41And he takes the first pitch, first ball, strike.
- 1:52:43On the mound, Bill Wilson. He came in with a base is older than no one out in the sixth.
- 1:52:47Got down from then and on one pitch to hit into a double play with the Mets getting the run.
- 1:52:51Then struck out Dave Marshall, a pinch hitter.
- 1:52:54On strike pitch, outside, and they count one ball and one strike.
- 1:52:57Montreal got a run on the top of the fifth. They lead Pittsburgh 3-1 after 4-1-1.
- 1:53:02Martin against Brunette in the second inning.
- 1:53:06Cubs did not score, so that game after 1-1-1, nothing, nothing.
- 1:53:10St. Louis beat the Cubs in the first game 2-1.
- 1:53:12Then a pitch low to Garrett, two balls, one strike.
- 1:53:24Two balls, one strike. Wilson with a record of one and all.
- 1:53:27End of the windup and the pitch to Garrett.
- 1:53:30Taken high in this 3-1.
- 1:53:36Britt George started the ballgame for the Phillies, lasted five innings,
- 1:53:39was charged with three runs on five hits. He struck out six, walked one.
- 1:53:43The walk got him out of the ballgame.
- 1:53:46Brought Bill Wilson in.
- 1:53:48A 3-1 delivery.
- 1:53:50Eyeball four and the Mets have the time run on as Garrett walks.
- 1:53:55Wayne Garrett picking up his 73rd walk.
- 1:54:02The Mets have the time run at first with Gary Grote coming up.
- 1:54:10In the on deck circle, Ken Boswell.
- 1:54:12Now Weiss was scheduled up.
- 1:54:17Grote has doubled and scored a run in two times up, batting at 2-52.
- 1:54:30Mets with the time run at first going out in the top of the seventh inning.
- 1:54:42Wilson taking plenty of time before looking in for the signs. Now gets that.
- 1:54:46Garrett edges off at first base.
- 1:54:50And the pitch. Grote squares, Buntz the ball, foul, strike one.
- 1:54:54Mets playing for a tie here in the seventh inning.
- 1:55:00By the way, when Tommy Agee doubled in the sixth inning,
- 1:55:03it was his 175th extra base hit.
- 1:55:08No, base hit, which is a new Mets record.
- 1:55:11Mets come in behind and extra base it with 59.
- 1:55:18Pitch back, bun it out toward the front of home plate.
- 1:55:21It is a fair ball and the catcher, McHarver comes out,
- 1:55:25feels the ball, started to go to second.
- 1:55:27And then he decided to go to first when he saw he had no chance at second base.
- 1:55:31Actually what happened, McHarver charged out and that ball was in back of him.
- 1:55:34He had to reach back to get it.
- 1:55:37And then lost the chance for a play at second.
- 1:55:39So on the sacrifice, 2-4.
- 1:55:42It puts the time run at second and brings up Ken Boswell batting for Al White.
- 1:55:58Grant Jackson starting to flow on the bullpen for the Phillies, the left-handers.
- 1:56:05Boswell in last night's ball game had two hits and four times up,
- 1:56:09batting 255 for the year with 44 RBI's and five home runs.
- 1:56:14First pitch, high of all.
- 1:56:26Bill Wilson, set to go.
- 1:56:29A check at second base, Garrett there, and the pitch back to Boswell.
- 1:56:32He's behind in the center field, it should be playable.
- 1:56:35There is Larry Heisel, he makes the catch.
- 1:56:38Garrett halfway, goes back to second, and the Phillies pick up their second out.
- 1:56:43That'll bring up Ken Singleton who is batting in the pitcher's position.
- 1:56:46He was a pinch hitter in the ball game for Ron Herbal.
- 1:56:50He started a 2-1 rally when he singled the right field his first time up.
- 1:56:54Pittsburgh did not score on the bottom of the fifth inning,
- 1:56:57but he's going to the sixth at Montreal free, Pittsburgh one.
- 1:57:03A new pitch in the ball game for Pittsburgh.
- 1:57:06Brunette is out, and John Lamb is in.
- 1:57:12Singleton batting left-handed, and he takes a strike over the outside corner, strike one.
- 1:57:18Singleton got his face hit off Chris Short, batting right-handed.
- 1:57:24Ken batting 2.58 for the year, has 50-base hits for the year.
- 1:57:30Pitch back, it is high and outside, one ball, one strike.
- 1:57:34Phillies lead 4-3, two men on top of the seventh inning.
- 1:57:38The Mets have Wayne Garrett on at second base.
- 1:57:47Wilson's set, here's the pitch.
- 1:57:50High and outside, ball two, two balls, one strike.
- 1:58:02Wilson coming to this ball game, and his game had an earned run average of 4.98.
- 1:58:08Almost five runs for nine innings.
- 1:58:11The 2-1 pitch, flung on and fouled off.
- 1:58:14For the catch, two balls, two strikes.
- 1:58:27Two balls, two strikes, two men out.
- 1:58:31Garrett at second.
- 1:58:37And the right-hander sets up, here's the pitch.
- 1:58:40It is just outside, and Wilson was on his way to the dugout.
- 1:58:45Wilson, on his way to the dugout, thought he had Singleton struck out.
- 1:58:49Down now it goes to three and two.
- 1:58:53Wilson goes back to the mound.
- 1:58:58On deck batting for the Mets, Tommy Agee.
- 1:59:08Now the free-two count.
- 1:59:11Wilson's set, Garrett at second, here's the pitch.
- 1:59:14Flung on and hit, Singleton is struck out, and that ends the inning.
- 1:59:21Second strikeout for Wilson, and both strikeouts have come with a runner in scoring position.
- 1:59:28No runs, no hits, no errors, a walk, a man left at second,
- 1:59:31and the scorer in the middle of the seventh, the Phillies four, the Mets three.
- 1:59:37Well, fans, as you well know, time is slowly running out on the 1970 baseball season at
- 1:59:42J Stadium, and only four more home dates remain.
- 1:59:45One of these dates is fan appreciation night on Thursday, October 1st, when the Mets meet
- 1:59:49the Chicago Cubs in the final game of the season at 7-0-5.
- 1:59:53And the New York Mets management, by way of showing their appreciation,
- 1:59:57will give everyone who attends the game that night an attractive beverage tray,
- 2:00:00complete with colorful Met coasters, and it will prove mighty useful around the house.
- 2:00:05It's a gift every Met fan will enjoy having.
- 2:00:08So why don't you plan to be on hand for fan appreciation night,
- 2:00:11Thursday, October 1st, when the Mets go out to regular season at 7-0-5 for the Chicago Cubs.
- 2:00:18The Mets will play the first of four against the Cubs on Monday night.
- 2:00:22That's a make-up game, game time at 8.
- 2:00:24They'll play Tuesday night at 8, Wednesday afternoon at 2, and Thursday night at 7-0-5.
- 2:00:39Going now to the bottom of the seventh inning, the Phillies leading 4-3.
- 2:00:43The Mets now have Wayne Garrett playing third base, Joe Foy out,
- 2:00:48and Ken Boswell playing second, Al Weiss out.
- 2:00:51They clend in at first, Boswell at second, Nelson at short, Garrett at third.
- 2:00:56In the outfield, Leon Jones on left, Tommy Hage in center, and Ken Singleton in right.
- 2:01:09First batter for the Phillies will be Johnny Taylor.
- 2:01:12He is 2-3 in this game, a two-run scorer.
- 2:01:14He's singled in the first, doubled in the fifth.
- 2:01:18Taylor's had four hits and seven times up in this series.
- 2:01:22Right hand batter batting 2-95.
- 2:01:24He's having his best year ever in the Major League.
- 2:01:26Nine home runs, 53 runs batted in.
- 2:01:34On the mound, Gary Gentry, he worked the sixth inning, gave up one base, hit a double.
- 2:01:39No runs, left one on.
- 2:01:41First pitch is inside the ball.
- 2:01:49Cardinal's got a run.
- 2:01:52Now the 1-0 pitch.
- 2:01:54It is lined down deep in the left field corner.
- 2:01:56It will be extra-base.
- 2:01:58The ball is off of the wall, dropped by Leon Jones, but Taylor goes in with a double.
- 2:02:05Ball hit high off the wall, not far from the home run, maybe about a foot.
- 2:02:10And Taylor has his third hit of the ball game, his second double, and the Phillies have a runner second with Nolan out,
- 2:02:15with Don Money coming up.
- 2:02:20Cardinal, in the bottom of the second inning, scored off Bill Hansen.
- 2:02:24The Cardinals lead Chicago 1-0 after two.
- 2:02:26They won the first game 2-1 behind Bob Gibson's two hitters.
- 2:02:31Don Money has a base hit, and a run batted in, and two official times up.
- 2:02:38Brandon looking for a sacrifice.
- 2:02:40Here's the pitch.
- 2:02:41It is taken high, and Bunny positioned ball one.
- 2:02:52Wayne Garrett is about even with the bag at third.
- 2:02:55Now he moves up just a little bit.
- 2:02:58Taylor has good speed on the second.
- 2:03:00The pitch back, swung on and missed, and they got one ball and one strike.
- 2:03:08Phillies lead 4-3.
- 2:03:09They have 10 base hits in the game.
- 2:03:11Two off Gentry.
- 2:03:12Both hits off Gentry have been doubled.
- 2:03:16Picked off Tadecki to starter, two off Ryan.
- 2:03:21Now at 1-1, Gentry back to the plate.
- 2:03:23Pitch is fouled back, and the count goes to one ball and two strikes.
- 2:03:28Dick Selma starts to warm up on the both end for the Phillies.
- 2:03:35Selma was the losing pitcher in last night's ball game.
- 2:03:38Also lost $500 for his remarks about the umpires, signed by the National League president,
- 2:03:44Charles Finney.
- 2:03:48Now at 1-2, the pitch by Gentry, again fouled off into the stands over the first base area.
- 2:03:55The count stays at 1-2.
- 2:04:01At the end of 5, it's Montreal 3, Pittsburgh 1.
- 2:04:08Carl Morton pitching for the X-Bow.
- 2:04:11John Lamb now in the ball game for the Pirates.
- 2:04:16Now Gentry again ready for the 1-2 pitch.
- 2:04:18It is inside.
- 2:04:19Money has to jump away.
- 2:04:21It is actually hitting.
- 2:04:23Money is nicked by the pitch, and he is on.
- 2:04:26So Gentry now in trouble.
- 2:04:28Runners at first and second, no one out, and Darren Johnson coming up.
- 2:04:32Johnson has walked in single twice.
- 2:04:35People who care don't litter.
- 2:04:37The people of line go there.
- 2:04:39They ask you to keep America beautiful.
- 2:04:45Gary Gentry losing the batter with the count at one ball and two strikes by hitting down money.
- 2:04:50Now the Mets are looking for sacrifice.
- 2:04:52Darren Johnson, big power hitter, here's the pitch.
- 2:04:56He squares around, takes high a ball, and Gentry behind the net.
- 2:05:00It's a double-nil.
- 2:05:02It's a double-nil.
- 2:05:04It's a double-nil.
- 2:05:07It's a double-nil.
- 2:05:09It's a double-nil.
- 2:05:11It's a double-nil.
- 2:05:14It's a double-nil.
- 2:05:16Aaron Johnson big power hitter. Here's the pitch he squares around takes high a ball and Gentry behind one ball no strike
- 2:05:24That was off cutting the warm-up in the bullpen for the men
- 2:05:29Now coming out to the mound is Gil Hodges
- 2:05:33You know Hodges has been out to the mound many times here tonight
- 2:05:37He took the deck the out of the ballgame in the fifth
- 2:05:41That's why I love all game in the fifth
- 2:05:43And now he's out to talk to Gary Gentry
- 2:05:53In this ballgame the Phillies got the early lead when Tony Taylor single to center field a hard smash the center went through
- 2:05:59The legs and found the 18 went
- 2:06:01For a single and a two-base error for Taylor to end up a third
- 2:06:05Now money bounced one down the third with Joe Foy and the rest of the infield in boy had a play at the plate
- 2:06:10But bobble the ball and lost a chance to throw out money at home, but he did pick up the out at first base
- 2:06:17That's batted up for the run in the third
- 2:06:19Phillies took a lead in the fourth on a two-run home run got another run in the fifth and that's got two in the
- 2:06:24Six now players in and Johnson takes the pitch inside ball to again Johnson in running position
- 2:06:32So again Gentry missing and they can't two balls no strikes
- 2:06:37That's one there ballgame last night
- 2:06:41The run is at first and second and no one out walk what else and he was trying to buy the 2-0 pitch and it's in first
- 2:06:48all strike
- 2:06:50And Johnson again in bunny position taking the pitch and the cat now two and one
- 2:06:54Johnson with 87 RBI so leading RBI men in the Phillies now a punches one out over first but it's gonna be foul
- 2:07:01Aaron Johnson with Don Clamdenin charging took a bunning stance and then as the ball got to the plate he funded it but funded it hard
- 2:07:10It was far enough that it was out of the play and he was able to get it out of the play and he was able to get it out of the play
- 2:07:17It was far enough that it was out of the dirt part of the infield and it landed foul by about two feet
- 2:07:24It would have been devastating Montreal did not go in the top of the sixth they lead three to one as the Pirates bat in the bottom of the sixth inning
- 2:07:33So the cat two balls and two strikes from then and drops back not figuring it by Garrett also back at third
- 2:07:42Going out the Mets have their infield back for what they hope to be a double play
- 2:07:47Here's the pitch it is a check swing ground ball foul on the first base side
- 2:07:52The cat stays at two and two the last time up there and Johnson batting against Nolan Ryan had a half swing in line to single the right
- 2:08:00First time up he single the center field on a three to pitch first official time up he had walked up to the ball two strikes the Phillies leading four to three
- 2:08:16They have runners at first and second with no one out in the bottom of the seventh now gently ready and the pitch
- 2:08:23It is a curve ball just outside so gently again three and two this is the fourth time he has been three and two and one complete ending the pitching
- 2:08:35And in pitching to six batters
- 2:08:39Runners at first and second Taylor fast at second base money pretty good at first here's the pitch the runners going the pitch is popped up
- 2:08:49So infield fly the batter automatically out of Boswell for the second base
- 2:08:55And Taylor gets back to second money back to first good pitch by Gary Gentry a big pitch
- 2:09:10That brings up Willie Montaner batting for the pitcher Bill Wilson
- 2:09:16Willie Montaner last night's ball game he was a ten hitter and blew up the single the center field it was part of a big four run in for the Philadelphia Phillies
- 2:09:32Montaner batting at three hundred he has that pick that's been 20 times up the Cubs do not go on the top of the third the Cardinals lead one up in after two and a half
- 2:09:48Cardinals won the first game two to one behind Bob Gibson two hitters
- 2:09:55Willie Montaner has been hitting for the pitcher Bill Wilson that means Dick Thelma will be the next pitcher to ballgame for the Phillies
- 2:10:13Runners at first and second Montaner's a left hand batter he has good feet
- 2:10:25Gentry backs off the pitching rubber and here comes manager Gil Hodges out we could have Doug McGraw in this ballgame
- 2:10:33Doug McGraw warming up in the bullpen and Gil Hodges hesitating before going over the base by now goes on over and goes out to the mound
- 2:10:44Gentry stands with his arms folded looking out toward the bullpen
- 2:10:47Art Chomsky is going out toward right field
- 2:10:54Art Chomsky will be going in the ballgame as Doug McGraw comes in so that means they'll be switching batting positions
- 2:11:02Dan Pugh will bat in the fifth batting position and Singleton going out who was in the ninth batting position from an earlier switch
- 2:11:13Will see McGraw batting his position and McGraw coming in has a record of three and six this will be his 52nd appearance
- 2:11:22Last time out was three and a third innings against Pittsburgh he was a losing pitcher as the Pirates won in the 10th inning by a score of nine to five
- 2:11:32Now the Philadelphia Phillies are making the change and to tell you about that here's the Alkynes
- 2:11:36Alright, Linton Elton with William Montanez up in a left hand batter and Doug McGraw coming in the ballgame a left hand pitcher
- 2:11:42Frank LaCasey the manager of the Phillies has substituted Jim Huddo a right hand batter. HUTTO Jim hitting 187 for the year with three home runs and 12 runs batted in
- 2:11:55In the ballgame Art Chomsky has taken over in right field
- 2:12:01So the match has Chomsky in right, A.G. in center, Jones in left
- 2:12:06Jones just now completing throwing a little bit to keep his arm loose
- 2:12:11Phillies have runners at first and second one man out bottom of the seventh inning and they lead four to three
- 2:12:17So right here a big big job for McGraw
- 2:12:22Doug has a two ball that's effective against right hand batters
- 2:12:28And he checked out the signs from Jerry Goody he gets that and the pitch
- 2:12:35It is in for a ball strike just before the pitch Harrelson had moved over to second to move Taylor back to second base and then he broke back to his shortstop position
- 2:12:46Taylor a fast man at second money on at first Taylor had doubled money with it by a pitch to get on with the count at one ball and two strikes on him
- 2:12:57Now at one strike McGraw double check to second here's the pitch
- 2:13:02A two ball hit down the short a play at second for Harrelson to throw there in time on the first to double play
- 2:13:08So McGraw doing a great job getting out of the ground and do a double play a fine play on the play by Harrelson as he charged the ball field of the ball right on the edge of the infield grass
- 2:13:20Threw back to second base to Boswell and Boswell throw on the first base was in time
- 2:13:25So it's a six four three double play and any no one one hit no errors and one man left on and the score at the end of seven the studies for the New York Mets three
- 2:13:37Now here's
- 2:13:39My name's Shafiq Lafayette Radio. Where are you from?

- 2:14:49Thank you very much, Ralph Cannon. Hello everybody. Dick Selma is on the mound now making his seventieth appearance. He was the losing pitcher last night when he worked the ninth inning.
- 2:14:58He's been credited with twenty two saves this year for the Philadelphia Phillies. He is a former New York Mets.
- 2:15:07And Tommy Agee, top of the batting order, is up the lead off for the New York Mets. Also my last night, Agee singled a right to drive in the tying and winning run.
- 2:15:19Here's the first pitch and it's hung on and popped up the first base and right there is Deron Johnson to make the catch.
- 2:15:25Last night, Agee swivel one through off the handle to right field. That time he was jammed again and popped it up the first.
- 2:15:33The Pittsburgh Pirates did not score in the sixth. Montreal is coming up in the seventh inning leading the Pirates three to one.
- 2:15:39Now, Brad Harrelson is coming up for the Mets. He is a switchative batting left. He had a single to drive in the run on the top of the sixth.
- 2:15:49Harrelson is one for three here tonight. Dick Selma hard going right hander and the pitch is high for a ball. Third base went down.
- 2:15:56Money stays on the grass thinking that Harrelson might set a money's way on. The Phillies are leading by a score of four to three here.
- 2:16:06Here's a pitch that is fired and first house strike. It's one-one.
- 2:16:12Leon Jones is waiting on deck. This is a one-one delivery.
- 2:16:19The ball's gone out and missed. It's one and two. Selma has been fairly effective in late inning relief this year for the Phillies.
- 2:16:26He has a blazing fastball. Here's a one-two delivery. Breaking pitch. It misses low and the count goes two and two now to Brad Harrelson.
- 2:16:45Two-two delivery. Third ball high and a shot full at three-two. Deron Johnson playing first base over near the line guarding it.
- 2:16:53Trying to protect against the extra base with possibilities. This will be a big payoff that's coming here and it's on the way.
- 2:17:00Swung on and it's fouled on the left of your line. Ron Stone gives shape but it's in the feed tonight of play.
- 2:17:07The count stays full at three and two. The Mets are looking for a base on it. This is a good way to get the tying run on board here in the top half of the eighth inning.
- 2:17:20Selma then forwards from the way to get the sign. Here's the three-two delivery. He walked in. High and tight.
- 2:17:28So now Harrelson goes to first. The tying run is on. Leap hard for station identification. This is the New York Mets baseball network.
- 2:17:36This is WOKO in Albany, New York. Our temperature is 72 degrees. Cahoe savings bank time is now two till ten.
- 2:17:43Time to get a safe deposit box for your valuables at Cahoe's savings bank.
- 2:17:47This is Lindsay Nelson with Ralph Tanner and Bob Murphy at County McHenry in Philadelphia.
- 2:17:52The Phillies are leading the Mets by a score of four to three. The Mets are batting in the eighth with a runner at first and one man out.
- 2:17:59Leon Jones steps into the batter's box. Selma fits in there for a called strike. Jones is 0 for 2 on the walk.
- 2:18:07He has slide to right, done it out there in the first and one. He was unhappy with the call on the last pitch by plate umpire Dick Selma.
- 2:18:14Dick Selma last night after the ballgame leveled all sorts of charges at the umpires. As a result, he was fined $500 by Doug Feeney, the president of the National League.
- 2:18:25This umpiring crew was not entirely satisfied with his apology. Here's a sort of first out in time.
- 2:18:31Selma went into the umpire's room before the ballgame and made a personal apology.
- 2:18:37Strike one, delivery to Jones. Third ball and a tie, one and one.
- 2:18:43Waiting on deck is Don Glenn Dennis.
- 2:18:50Darren Johnson is holding against the runner at first base.
- 2:18:55Selma sets up one, one, pitch. Front on, foul back. It's out of play and the count's one and two.
- 2:19:02Tim McArthur is the catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. He has spent most of their season on the sidelines with a clustered hand.
- 2:19:12Teams have been known to run on McArthur.
- 2:19:20This will be a one, two pitch. Off the stretch.
- 2:19:24Breaking pitch low, it's two and two.
- 2:19:31Already tonight the Cardinals have defeated the Cubs in the first game of their doubleheader and the Cards are leading in the second game.
- 2:19:37Montreal is leading the Pittsburgh Pirates. That makes this game doubly big here at Johnny McShady as far as the Mexican's concerned.
- 2:19:44Breaking pitch, hung on him there, stuck him out. Jones is out, two away.
- 2:19:52Now Don Glenn Dement, he's gone 0 for 3 here tonight.
- 2:19:55Down it out short to first, fly it to center and down it into a double play.
- 2:20:01Glenn Dement was up for the bases, loaded nobody out in the sixth inning.
- 2:20:04Billy Wilson was brought in to pitch to him and he hit into a double play.
- 2:20:08Wilson picked two innings here tonight, allowed no runs, no hits.
- 2:20:11Wilson picked two in the third last night, allowed no runs and one hit.
- 2:20:19So big Don Glenn Dement that handles that bat loosely at the plate, gets almost fixed.
- 2:20:24It is high for a ball.
- 2:20:29Archie Chemsky is on deck.
- 2:20:32But Allison's the runner at first.
- 2:20:40Almost set.
- 2:20:42Breaking pitch, it's his deep and left, way back, could be, going, going.
- 2:20:46Home run for Don Glenn Dement off the facade of the upper deck.
- 2:20:51And the New York Mets go out in front by a score of 5 to 4 on Don Glenn Dement's 21st home run of the season.
- 2:21:00He hit a good film of fastball off the facade of the upper deck.
- 2:21:05And left field and the New York Mets are leading in the ballgame for Don Glenn Dement.
- 2:21:11That is his third home run against the Phillies this year.
- 2:21:15All of them hit here at County Mac Stadium.
- 2:21:19His last one is against the Pirates on the 20th of September.
- 2:21:23Don Glenn Dement with a two run homer on the Mets have taken the lead.
- 2:21:28Arch Chemsky is up there now with two men out.
- 2:21:31The pitch is high and tight, locked in back.
- 2:21:39The Mets are batting in the top of the eighth and they're out in front by a score of 5 to 4.
- 2:21:43Here's a pitch in for a called strike and it's 1-1 to Chemsky batting for his free time tonight.
- 2:21:48He did not start the ballgame because the Phillies started the left hander, Chris Scork.
- 2:21:541-1 offering is on the way at the fastball high and tight and it goes two balls and a strike now to Chemsky.
- 2:22:00Wayne Garrett is on deck.
- 2:22:04Glenn Dement, he hit a shot. It wasn't a fly ball, he ripped it on a lie.
- 2:22:11Montreal did not score in the seventh. The Pirates are coming up in the bottom of the seventh.
- 2:22:15Montreal still leading 3-1 as a breaking pitch in for a called strike.
- 2:22:21Two balls, two strikes to Arch Chemsky.
- 2:22:24Left hander, Graer Jackson, up and throwing in the bullpen.
- 2:22:28For the Philadelphia Phillies, 2-2 pitch to Chemsky.
- 2:22:31He's going on and fouled back. He stays alive at 2-2.
- 2:22:40And his action down in the Med Bullpen. Right now Ron Taylor is up and throwing.
- 2:22:45Ron Taylor is throwing in the Med Bullpen.
- 2:22:51Here's a 2-2 pitch to Chemsky.
- 2:22:54He's going on and fouled back. It's out of play.
- 2:23:02This is the first time tonight that the New York Mets have been either even or out in front in this ballgame.
- 2:23:09A fairly short in the bottom half of the first inning.
- 2:23:13And that's good evening it up in the third, but then the Phillies went out in front 3-1 when they got 2-4.
- 2:23:20There's a swing and a miss, strike three.
- 2:23:23So they got two strikeouts, but he gave up a two-run homer.
- 2:23:26So it's two runs on one hit, a walk, no errors, and none left.
- 2:23:30In the middle of the eighth inning, the score is the Mets 5 and the Phillies 4.
- 2:23:36What's a smile worth? Self-confidence? Hard to spend a price on them?
- 2:23:40Sure, but people have been doing it for years and short-changing themselves.
- 2:23:44Too many thoughts, the cost of dental care too high, and so short.
- 2:23:48Results? Poor and unsightly teeth.
- 2:23:51Now Blue Shield announces a pre-paid dental care program that puts regular dental care within reach of families who once were unable to afford it.
- 2:23:59For complete information, contact the Dental Services Department, Blue Shield Albany, available to groups of 50 or more.
- 2:24:07Okay, it's a good day to find a new car on a gloomy day.
- 2:24:16At Whitbeck Motors, you're authorized Plymouth, Chrysler, and Imperial dealer, where the selection of the hot new Roadrunners is the largest.
- 2:24:23The service is the fastest, and the prices are right.
- 2:24:26Today, learn why no one walks from Whitbeck and why.
- 2:24:30It's a good day to find a new car.
- 2:24:38Whitbeck Motors, 6th Avenue, Troy.
- 2:24:41WOKO is the home of the Mets for the Capitol District.
- 2:24:49The Mets victory is Doug McGraw.
- 2:24:51He came in in the bottom of the seventh inning to get Jim Huddo to hit into an inning-inning double play and get the Mets out of a dangerous spot.
- 2:25:00It's Tim McRober, left-hand batting catcher, coming up to lead off for the field here in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- 2:25:08The Mets 5-run, 6-6. The field 4-run, 10-1.
- 2:25:21McRober has rounded out single to center and fouled out the third base.
- 2:25:27Doug McGraw into the market.
- 2:25:29Pitch is fired low, pass 30 on back, and it's 1-0.
- 2:25:34Ron Taylor continues to throw in the Med Volcan.
- 2:25:37The Mets have used five pitches here tonight.
- 2:25:40Ray Sadecki started, worked four innings.
- 2:25:42Nolan Ryan worked the third of an inning, 1-0 pitch.
- 2:25:45It's high. Ron Hebel worked two-thirds.
- 2:25:48Gary Gently worked one in the third and now Doug McGraw.
- 2:25:522-0 is the count to McRober.
- 2:25:54When you have a one-run lead, you don't want to put him on.
- 2:26:03Pitch is inside. McGraw has gone behind 3-0.
- 2:26:08That brings Doug McGraw in from, or rather, Bud Harrelson in to see McGraw from the post-it shortstop,
- 2:26:13and Glenn Dunn is coming over.
- 2:26:17This is what happened to the New York Nuts last night.
- 2:26:19They were leading by a run, and the fields were coming up in the ninth,
- 2:26:23and Dean Kent walked the lead off at it.
- 2:26:28Alright, Glenn Dunn goes back to first.
- 2:26:30Harrelson goes back to his post-it short.
- 2:26:33They count his three balls and no strikes.
- 2:26:35The leadoff man, Jim McRober, with Oscar Gamble on deck.
- 2:26:39It's fired right down to 5-4, a call strike.
- 2:26:423-1 to McRober.
- 2:26:50The 3-1 delivery.
- 2:26:53Plung on and ripped down to right field.
- 2:26:55It'll be extra basis for McRober.
- 2:26:57He's around first down.
- 2:26:58He's right at second.
- 2:27:00Dempsey is in the bullpen, receiving the ball,
- 2:27:02fires it in a stand-up double, leading off the bottom of the eighth,
- 2:27:06by Jim McRober.
- 2:27:11Dean Kent is getting up to throw in the bullpen for the New York Nuts.
- 2:27:16Oscar Gamble is coming up.
- 2:27:19Dean Kent is up and throwing in the bullpen.
- 2:27:22The Phils have the tying run at second,
- 2:27:24and the bottom of the eighth with nobody out.
- 2:27:28That was a 3-1 pitch, and it was ripped right down the right field line.
- 2:27:32Rolled all the way down into Billy Bullpen in the right field corner.
- 2:27:36Oscar Gamble.
- 2:27:41And up one down, and he lined out second base.
- 2:27:43He's left and batted.
- 2:27:45Glenn Dennan in on the grass at first, expecting a sacrifice to step here.
- 2:27:49Garrett hanging around to cut out of the grass at third.
- 2:27:51Here's a pitch.
- 2:27:52Gamble swings and pounds it back.
- 2:27:53He's just a full cut.
- 2:27:57Oscar Gamble is hitting 262 for the year.
- 2:28:01He's at one homer and 18 runs batted out.
- 2:28:05That's figuring it's a home club to try to sacrifice him over,
- 2:28:08so Glenn Dennan stays about 45 feet away from the plate,
- 2:28:10well in on the grass at first.
- 2:28:18Mazara takes the side from Grote.
- 2:28:20He steps up.
- 2:28:22Here's a pitch.
- 2:28:23Gamble, ready to swing away, watches low, and it's a ball.
- 2:28:26Again, he was not running, and so Glenn Dennan repeats a few steps now.
- 2:28:31MacCarver is the runner at second base.
- 2:28:34Larry Heisel is on deck.
- 2:28:37The Mets are leading 5-4, with the Phillies threatening in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- 2:28:42This is the gambles.
- 2:28:43Peng on, fouled out to the left side.
- 2:28:45On the pitch, Glenn Dennan was charging again.
- 2:28:48Pittsburgh did not score in the bottom of the seventh inning going to the eighth.
- 2:28:52Montreal 3 and Pittsburgh 1.
- 2:28:54Chicago did not score in the fourth.
- 2:28:56Going to the bottom of the fourth, it is the Cardinals 1 and the Cubs nothing.
- 2:29:04Mets trying to get out of a jam here at the bottom of the eighth inning to protect a one-run lead.
- 2:29:09Here's a one-two pitch to Oscar Gamble.
- 2:29:12Peng on and tipped back into the goal for Grote for the strikeout.
- 2:29:15What are you hanging on? And it is one away.
- 2:29:20Doug McGraw got him with a curve ball.
- 2:29:23Larry Heisel is coming up.
- 2:29:24He's in nothing but trouble for the Mets tonight.
- 2:29:26He doubled in the second inning and hit a two-run homer in the fourth,
- 2:29:29but was struck out by Jitri in the sixth.
- 2:29:32He's at number eight in the order,
- 2:29:34and is hitting 2-0-4 for the season, but he's been rough of late and rough on the Mets.
- 2:29:40The graph pops a ball in his glove once it's right.
- 2:29:43At third base now against the right-hand batter,
- 2:29:46Gary Gently, or rather Wayne Garrett, is guarding that line.
- 2:29:51The big gap between Garrett and shortstop Bud Harrelson.
- 2:29:57That ball is low and it's ball one, the hyper.
- 2:30:01He's followed by Ron Stone, a left-hand batting outfielder.
- 2:30:04Stone bats number nine in the present batting order of the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 2:30:11So Stone is on deck, swinging about loosely.
- 2:30:171-0-5, swung on, and did he hold up?
- 2:30:21It was a check, playing.
- 2:30:24And Clay Lumpire is asking how the first base umpire,
- 2:30:27Dave Davidson, to give him an opinion.
- 2:30:29He said he swung the bat.
- 2:30:31So it is one-and-one.
- 2:30:33Heisel started the playing check to pitch, which is down in the dirt.
- 2:30:37And Clay Lumpire, DeCello, had indicated that it was a ball,
- 2:30:41then asked an opinion of Dave Davidson at first, who said he took a swing.
- 2:30:46It's one-and-one.
- 2:30:48McGraw sets up 1-1-6.
- 2:30:51That ball hit on the ground to second base.
- 2:30:53Boswell is there, up with it, goes to Clint Dunham.
- 2:30:56Two away, McCarver moves the third on the infield out.
- 2:30:59Now Ron Stone is a left-hand batter.
- 2:31:01He is being called back to the dugout.
- 2:31:03We're going to get somebody else coming up for him.
- 2:31:07They want to play righty-lefty here.
- 2:31:11Ricky Joseph, Ricardo Joseph is coming up.
- 2:31:14He is a right-hand batter, an infielder by trade.
- 2:31:17Ricky Joseph is hitting.229 for the year.
- 2:31:21He has three home runs and ten runs batted in.
- 2:31:29Rick Joseph is batting for Ron Stone.
- 2:31:37This is strictly righty-lefty.
- 2:31:42So the Mets are leading by a score of 5 to 4.
- 2:31:46The Phillies have the tying run at third, represented by Tim McCarver.
- 2:31:50There are two men out.
- 2:31:51As Rick Joseph steps into the batter's box, the Phillies are batting in the bottom of the eighth.
- 2:31:58McGraw is working straight away.
- 2:32:02Pass ball and it's a little low, ball one.
- 2:32:06Dean Shantz continues to throw in the med bullpen.
- 2:32:17McGraw reads the sign of Jerry Grote.
- 2:32:20Here's the pitch just missing, a little low.
- 2:32:24McGraw has gone behind 2-0 on Rick Joseph.
- 2:32:30Bud Cadgad has been brought in by the Pittsburgh Pirates now in the eighth inning.
- 2:32:34Montreal batting, he is a speed picker to work tonight for the Pirates.
- 2:32:37Montreal is leading 3-1.
- 2:32:39Here's a 2-0 pitch to Joseph.
- 2:32:41Surf ball, put on and loose.
- 2:32:44It is 2-1.
- 2:32:46Dave Lewis did not score in the fourth.
- 2:32:48The Cubs are coming up in the fifth inning with the Cardinals leading them 1-0.
- 2:32:53The Cardinals won the first game tonight by a score of 2-1.
- 2:32:56This will be a 2-1 pitch now to Rick Joseph.
- 2:33:00It's on the way.
- 2:33:01Check, swing, foul ball to the right side on the ground and out of play.
- 2:33:05Down is two balls and two strikes to Joseph.
- 2:33:08He backs out of the batter's box, reaches down to get a handful of dirt.
- 2:33:11Passes to the side, takes a look at McGraw, moves the dirt out of the batter's box.
- 2:33:16That's the edge of the plate.
- 2:33:18Moves in now.
- 2:33:20McGraw touches the bill of his step.
- 2:33:22Takes the ball out of the glove, puts it back in, looks in for the sign now.
- 2:33:25He looks at McCarver leading off the bag of dirt.
- 2:33:28Here's a 2-2 pitch.
- 2:33:29Pull out and loose.
- 2:33:30He's stuck it out in the round of the inning.
- 2:33:32McGraw runs about three steps off the mound towards the dugout.
- 2:33:36And now McCarver has died at third on McGraw's second strike out of the inning.
- 2:33:43No runs are hit, no errors, and one man left at the end of eighth full inning to play.
- 2:33:48The score is the Mets 5 and the Phillies 4.
- 2:33:56Now the Philadelphia Phillies make a change and left.
- 2:33:59Scott Reed is in the play left field.
- 2:34:01Wayne Garrett is up for the Mets and he fouls it off the strike one.
- 2:34:04Mets are batting him the top of the ninth, facing Dick Selma.
- 2:34:11Wayne Garrett's been up one time in this game and he threw a walk.
- 2:34:18Again Selma into the motion.
- 2:34:19The strike one delivery is on the way.
- 2:34:21Breaking pitch gets high, one and one.
- 2:34:26Selma is the pitcher of record for the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 2:34:32There's a breaking pitch outside.
- 2:34:33Douglas Raw is the pitcher of record for the New York Mets.
- 2:34:38With Garrett at the plate, Jerry Grote is next in the New York Mets batting order.
- 2:34:43Selma's 2-1 delivery is put on and it is lined up the middle for a base hit for Wayne Garrett.
- 2:34:49Gary Heisler comes over, shoots it up, plays it back.
- 2:34:51Garrett turns and holds with a single to center field.
- 2:34:55Leading off here in the ninth inning.
- 2:34:56That'll bring up Jerry Grote.
- 2:34:59Montreal Expos did not score in the eighth inning.
- 2:35:01The Pittsburgh Pats are coming up in the bottom of the eighth with Montreal leading 3-1.
- 2:35:07Jerry Grote has doubled.
- 2:35:10Glad to write and sacrifice.
- 2:35:12He takes a look down to Eddie Yost, the sign man of spirit.
- 2:35:15Now to see if he is sacrificing Wayne Garrett over the second.
- 2:35:19Ken Boswell is on deck.
- 2:35:21The Mets are leading 5-4.
- 2:35:23The ball is funded up into the air and it is taken there momentarily by Selma.
- 2:35:28Now he throws the second for the fourth play.
- 2:35:31And the force is made there.
- 2:35:32Garrett came back to the back at first.
- 2:35:34As the ball is popped up.
- 2:35:36Selma had decided that he would let it hit.
- 2:35:39And see what kind of a play he could affect in a possible double play.
- 2:35:42But Garrett has come back to the bag at first base.
- 2:35:45And so then when Selma bobbled the ball.
- 2:35:48He picked it up, had an easy play at second because both the Mets base runners were at first.
- 2:35:53So it's definitely a fourth play.
- 2:35:55The put out goes to the shortstop Larry Boyle.
- 2:35:57He assists to Selma.
- 2:35:58Grote attempting to sacrifice his funded into a fourth play.
- 2:36:01He's the runner at first.
- 2:36:03And Boswell is up.
- 2:36:05He's got up one time and he fly deep to center field.
- 2:36:09Fastball is in for a called strike.
- 2:36:13Grote trying to sacrifice.
- 2:36:14Popped the ball up out toward the mouth.
- 2:36:23There's a swing and a foul ball off a breaking pitch on the ground back at first.
- 2:36:30And then D.J. Burr came up with the ball after Darren Johnson had taken a swipe at it and come up empty.
- 2:36:37Boswell bats number eight.
- 2:36:39And the Mets batting order.
- 2:36:40And Chugler's out at nine.
- 2:36:41He's windmilling the bat out there on deck.
- 2:36:43The count is two strikes to Boswell.
- 2:36:51There's a swing and a foul ball back and out of play.
- 2:36:54Boswell had decided when he saw that ball popped up that he would try to pull the unintentional mouth and take a shot at getting two.
- 2:37:04But he scribbled it off.
- 2:37:08No right because when he did get control both the Mets base runners were still at first.
- 2:37:12There's a swing and a foul ball down the left field line.
- 2:37:16Long run for Scott Reed and he makes the catch and fair character.
- 2:37:19He's just coming across the line.
- 2:37:21And Grote repeats the first base.
- 2:37:23Boswell with a fly ball right down the left field line.
- 2:37:26It was a long run for Scott Reed but he got there and made the catch about a foot in fair territory and came across the line.
- 2:37:32Doug McGraw is coming up.
- 2:37:35Doug McGraw at the place he's here is four for twelve.
- 2:37:38He's had five runs out of them.
- 2:37:44Grote is at first and two men are out.
- 2:37:46The Mets are leading by a score of five to four.
- 2:37:55Dick Belmont sets up, checks the runner.
- 2:37:57Here's the pitch to McGraw.
- 2:37:58He checks on it but does not swing and it's outside for a ball.
- 2:38:05Now the AG is waiting on deck.
- 2:38:11Aaron Johnson playing behind the runner at first. Grote leads. Clear ball hit on the ground and destroyed.
- 2:38:16Big hop to Poa.
- 2:38:17He goes to Tony Taylor for the fourth and second and the side is retired.
- 2:38:21So the Mets got no runs ahead.
- 2:38:24They hit no errors and one man left.
- 2:38:26In the middle of a ninth inning the score is the Mets five and the Phillies four.
- 2:38:32In the morning about six o'clock the ninth wonder of the world takes place.

- 2:39:39At Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh the Pirates did not score in the eighth inning.
- 2:39:43Montreal is coming up in the ninth leading the Pirates by a score of three to one.
- 2:39:47In St. Louis in the second game the Cubs did not score in the fifth.
- 2:39:51The Cardinals are coming up in the bottom of the fifth leading the Cubs by a score of one to nothing.
- 2:39:55The Cardinals won the first game of the Climatic 2 to 1.
- 2:39:58Right here the Mets are leading five to four.
- 2:40:01Doug McGraw will be facing the top of the Philly batting order here in the bottom of the ninth inning.
- 2:40:06Larry Boa the switch hitting shortstop will lead off.
- 2:40:09He has fouled to the catcher, grounded out short to first, grounded out third to first and struck out.
- 2:40:14He's batting right against the left-hander, Doug McGraw.
- 2:40:18Wayne Garrett the third person moves under the cut out of the grass at third.
- 2:40:21The remainder of the Mets alignment stays the same as it was.
- 2:40:25No defensive changes here in the ninth inning.
- 2:40:27Jamsky is still in right field.
- 2:40:34Doug McGraw, end of the motion.
- 2:40:37Breaking vision there for a called strike to Larry Boa.
- 2:40:40He's followed in the batting order by tough Tony Taylor.
- 2:40:52McGraw again takes a look around, end of the motion, strike one delivery.
- 2:40:56Fastball a little low at one and one.
- 2:40:59McGraw came in in the seventh.
- 2:41:02Got a huddle to get into a double play.
- 2:41:04Two-thirds of an inning credit to John Bayer.
- 2:41:06Then he worked the eighth inning, so this is the third inning in which he has worked.
- 2:41:11Fastball fouled off, it's one and two.
- 2:41:13Ball came back into the stand.
- 2:41:27McGraw standing just behind the rubber.
- 2:41:31Larry Boa back end swinging the bat loosely.
