- 0:02Speaker 1: a little after show with the folks.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Here a cafe or a big table right in the
- 0:05Speaker 2: middle here, what we got here? I went two, three, four.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Like ten, had a big table right in the middle here.
- 0:12Speaker 1: It's a nice it's a nice bottom floorer. You can
- 0:14Speaker 1: do a lot of a lot of parties available here.
- 0:17Speaker 3: They have a lot of them here. Weddings, anniversaries, graduations,
- 0:24Speaker 3: you name it.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yeah. And you had a super Bowl party here right,
- 0:28Speaker 2: super Bowl party here.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Mike Canthony did a nice article in the Super.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I heard, I heard the story of the game jersey.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I thought that was yours, that was your grandson's.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Huh.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah, No, that's first time in my life I've ever
- 0:42Speaker 3: worn a jersey with somebody's name on it. Really, first
- 0:44Speaker 3: time ever? Come on, honest to God, I swear to
- 0:47Speaker 3: God when I was a kid, you wouldn't be caught that.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I wouldn't be caught that wearing a jersey with somebody
- 0:52Speaker 3: else's name on it. Wow, seriously, it's either my name
- 0:57Speaker 3: or nobody's name.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Well, you know that's true because the one jersey I
- 1:00Speaker 1: have is an old Bob Joyce Bruins jersey and no kidd.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Bob Joyce played for the Bruins. He played with Craig
- 1:05Speaker 1: Janny and Cam Neely. Yeah, and he went to North
- 1:07Speaker 1: Dakota and won a national championship. That was like late eighties.
- 1:10Speaker 3: But anyhow, But when I threw out the first pitch
- 1:14Speaker 3: for the Mets against the Phillies, okay, I got a
- 1:18Speaker 3: Mets jersey with my name on the back.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Okay, it didn't put like strawberry or no, no, no,
- 1:25Speaker 3: dway good's.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Have you ever, by the way, all the ceremonial first
- 1:30Speaker 1: pitches that you've thrown, have you ever bounced one?
- 1:32Speaker 3: Nope? No, that would be the most embarrassing thing ever
- 1:37Speaker 3: for somebody who spent so many years pitching the basketball
- 1:40Speaker 3: when I was a kid. That although I did get
- 1:43Speaker 3: a great tip right before I went out there and
- 1:47Speaker 3: the Mets, one of the guys in the clubhouse said
- 1:50Speaker 3: you want to warm up? I said yeah. So they
- 1:52Speaker 3: take me to the back there to warm up. Oh yeah,
- 1:54Speaker 3: just throw and he says to me, he says, look
- 1:58Speaker 3: see this. He goes, there's not dirt on the mound,
- 2:02Speaker 3: like right here, It's not dirt. It's granular, so that
- 2:05Speaker 3: the pictures fuck and slide. And I said, interesting, because
- 2:12Speaker 3: obviously when we're kids, you know, I play to eighteen
- 2:14Speaker 3: it was dirt.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was a big, big pitch. Yeah, it's
- 2:17Speaker 2: a dirt yeah, I know, he says.
- 2:19Speaker 3: So a lot of people go up there and they
- 2:20Speaker 3: don't realize that when you step like these major lingers,
- 2:24Speaker 3: their left foot is going to slide and they get yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 3: So I went up there and I was like this,
- 2:31Speaker 3: you know, playing around with it, and he goes, that's
- 2:33Speaker 3: why they throw it into the dugout and throw it
- 2:35Speaker 3: all over the place. So that was a great heads.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Up, all right.
- 2:39Speaker 3: I asked Page that I threw a big breaking ball
- 2:42Speaker 3: that was that was a strike too. I mean it
- 2:44Speaker 3: would have gone out. Whoever was batting would have hit
- 2:47Speaker 3: it out of the park, but it was a.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Strike, all right. Uh one.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I mean I mentioned Page at the very beginning because
- 2:53Speaker 1: she's a rock star and stuff.
- 2:54Speaker 2: But as far as her on court.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Stuff goes, she said double two double doubles in the
- 3:00Speaker 1: last three games, last six forty two assists, eight turnovers,
- 3:05Speaker 1: back to back twenty three point games. She seems like
- 3:09Speaker 1: she's starting to get in that mode now with March approaching,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you would hope.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. We spend a lot of time these last
- 3:20Speaker 3: two weeks talking about, you know, moving, moving without the ball.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I think that's a huge skill that today's players want
- 3:31Speaker 3: to totally overlook. When they don't have the ball in
- 3:34Speaker 3: their hands, they just kind of stand around and watch
- 3:36Speaker 3: the game, you know, and he can't do that, no,
- 3:38Speaker 3: And what they don't understand is when you have the ball,
- 3:40Speaker 3: that's when they're going to trap you. That's when they're
- 3:42Speaker 3: not going to let you do what you want to do.
- 3:44Speaker 3: So when you don't have the ball and you're moving
- 3:47Speaker 3: without the ball, they have to chase you. And the
- 3:49Speaker 3: more you move, the more they have to chase you.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And you're better off trying to get a bucket on
- 3:54Speaker 3: somebody that's chasing you that you can lose, rather than
- 3:58Speaker 3: having the ball in your hands all the time. They
- 4:00Speaker 3: know exactly where you are, and then they trap you
- 4:03Speaker 3: and they make you get rid of it. So it's
- 4:05Speaker 3: a combination of the two things we're trying to do.
- 4:07Speaker 3: But the more she moves without the ball, the more,
- 4:10Speaker 3: you know, and then when we do put the ball
- 4:12Speaker 3: in her hands, you know, she's been really aggressive with it,
- 4:16Speaker 3: so she's been she's been using those middle ball screens
- 4:19Speaker 3: a lot and getting a lot of shots up. So yeah, no,
- 4:24Speaker 3: I you know, I've been thrilled with the way she's
- 4:28Speaker 3: playing right now.
- 4:30Speaker 1: She just passed Carrie Bascom, Colleena Musquete, Lewis, and Nikisha
- 4:35Speaker 1: Sales in the all time list. So she's twenty one
- 4:38Speaker 1: eighty nine, which is sixth all time. Lose next, but
- 4:41Speaker 1: she's got to go a little ways twenty three forty
- 4:43Speaker 1: two and then Tina's twenty three forty six. But those
- 4:47Speaker 1: are impressive numbers. What she's played one hundred and ten
- 4:49Speaker 1: hundred and something like that game, that's pretty impressive, it is,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and give given the situation that's been over the years.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I mean a lot of those other players played a
- 4:57Speaker 1: lot of all Americans. I think Page is played with
- 4:59Speaker 1: what one yeah in her time. Yeah, and that was
- 5:02Speaker 1: Alea last year.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's good and bad to play with a lot
- 5:07Speaker 3: of all Americans. You know, when you play with a
- 5:08Speaker 3: lot of all Americans, you don't play as many minutes
- 5:11Speaker 3: and you don't necessarily get a lot of shots, So
- 5:14Speaker 3: you've got to be really efficient, which she is. When
- 5:19Speaker 3: you play with a lot of all Americans, you don't
- 5:20Speaker 3: get double team as much, and she hasn't necessarily had
- 5:25Speaker 3: the benefit of that this year more, you know, more
- 5:29Speaker 3: so she's able to play freely because we have too
- 5:31Speaker 3: many players that they have to guard. But yeah, most
- 5:35Speaker 3: of those guys were playing one hundred and twenty five
- 5:37Speaker 3: hundred and thirty games, right at least how many she played.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I think somewhere around one ten. I think something like that.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so she's way behind in games, but she's been
- 5:47Speaker 3: so efficient that that's kind of what's helped her get
- 5:49Speaker 3: to that number. But you know, she just passed the
- 5:52Speaker 3: Keisha Sales.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Nikisha, Colleen Lewis and Carrie.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Yeah, Nakisha averaged twenty four minutes a game. I mean,
- 6:00Speaker 3: think about sixteen of those forty minutes she sat on
- 6:03Speaker 3: the bench.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Think about how many three thousand point scores you would
- 6:05Speaker 1: have if you if you played your best players all
- 6:08Speaker 1: the time.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Oh, I wouldn't have any friends, exactly, None of the
- 6:15Speaker 3: other coaches would talk to me ever.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Again, exactly, that's the point I was.
- 6:18Speaker 3: And it wouldn't be Yeah, it wouldn't be fun anyway.
- 6:20Speaker 1: All right, we'll come back wrap things up with Gino
- 6:22Speaker 1: here on the radio portion of the kind of Women's
- 6:24Speaker 1: Basketball Coaches Show.
- 6:25Speaker 2: In just a moment here on Learfield,
