- 0:09Speaker 1: White Sox manager Will Venable is back on the show.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Will it's great to see you. You look great. You
- 0:14Speaker 1: look like you're getting younger, which actually, you know what
- 0:16Speaker 1: I do want to start there because most guys look
- 0:18Speaker 1: like they aged ten years after their first year on
- 0:20Speaker 1: the job.
- 0:21Speaker 2: So what's your secret? How you doing?
- 0:22Speaker 3: Clean shave? That's true, he's clean shave and he has
- 0:25Speaker 3: a hat.
- 0:25Speaker 4: On there you go, Yeah, hat a little shadow to
- 0:29Speaker 4: cover it up, cover up the wrinkles.
- 0:31Speaker 5: But no doing good.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Good to see you guys, and yeah, you know, just
- 0:35Speaker 4: excited to be around our young group.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Man.
- 0:37Speaker 5: They keep me young.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Can I see that hat? What can you? Can we
- 0:40Speaker 3: get a can we get the one shot of Will?
- 0:42Speaker 5: So?
- 0:42Speaker 3: What the heck is on that hat?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Oh?
- 0:44Speaker 4: It's oh cactus with some flowers.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Oh. I was like, I was like trying to figure.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I'm like, is that fireworks from the scoreboard?
- 0:53Speaker 1: Like, what the heck is that special era hat?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah? Are those in the new spring training hats?
- 0:58Speaker 5: It must be yeah, new spring training hats for this year.
- 1:02Speaker 2: They look.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I gotta call Robert Jay Dog and get me one
- 1:05Speaker 3: of those because I like it.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Yeah, rubble hook you yep?
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah, he better, he better take care of us for
- 1:12Speaker 3: a long time. All Right.
- 1:14Speaker 1: AJ is obviously gonna ask a lot of questions.
- 1:17Speaker 2: He watches every White Sox game.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I'm just gonna start with the headliner right away because
- 1:21Speaker 1: I want as much as you can give me on
- 1:23Speaker 1: Murakami coming to camp, what he's like, what you're seeing
- 1:26Speaker 1: out there, Jesse Rodgers in camp. He was tweeting the
- 1:29Speaker 1: other the other day, I think it was yesterday, like
- 1:31Speaker 1: one ground ball goes buy him, he's going to retrieve it.
- 1:33Speaker 1: They're like, dude, you can leave it, just like give
- 1:35Speaker 1: us everything in your first you know whatever. It's been
- 1:38Speaker 1: twenty four to forty eight hours with him.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:42Speaker 4: First of all, I think the thing that sticks out
- 1:43Speaker 4: is just the personality. You know, speaks a lot better.
- 1:47Speaker 5: English, at least understands more English.
- 1:48Speaker 4: And I certainly gave him credit for just a really
- 1:51Speaker 4: personable guy, charismatic. They're just an energy about him. And
- 1:56Speaker 4: I think the thing that really stands out too is
- 1:58Speaker 4: you know, this guy's a winner.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:59Speaker 5: He just wants to win. He'll do whatever it takes.
- 2:01Speaker 4: It's really come through in the conversations how he goes
- 2:04Speaker 4: about his work. You know, he's very committed to improving
- 2:07Speaker 4: on defense, which is something that you of course I
- 2:10Speaker 4: love to hear. We love to hear as we value
- 2:13Speaker 4: defense and know how much that means to us. So
- 2:16Speaker 4: he's just been He's been great man and really just
- 2:18Speaker 4: can't wait for pictures and catchers. I'm sorry for full
- 2:21Speaker 4: squad to start so we can get him out there
- 2:23Speaker 4: with everybody and really go to work.
- 2:25Speaker 6: One of the videos we just showed was him fielding
- 2:27Speaker 6: the ground ball at third Is there a world where
- 2:31Speaker 6: you see something and what is that that you would
- 2:33Speaker 6: need to see that he could get twenty games at
- 2:37Speaker 6: third base if it gives your roster a little bit more.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Depth, you know, I think we want to focus at
- 2:44Speaker 4: first base, but he's somebody that obviously has played on
- 2:46Speaker 4: the other side of the dominie. We want to make
- 2:48Speaker 4: sure that that's still a club in his bag. He's
- 2:51Speaker 4: someone again that is committed and is willing to put
- 2:53Speaker 4: in the work to be proficient at both spots.
- 2:56Speaker 5: So for us, we just want to support him to
- 2:58Speaker 5: be better on defense and know that he can both
- 3:01Speaker 5: at first base and third base.
- 3:02Speaker 4: So I think most of the time you'll see him
- 3:04Speaker 4: at first base, but want to keep him locked in
- 3:06Speaker 4: the third base for sure.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Well, a lot of people thought he was going to
- 3:09Speaker 3: be one hundred million dollar dollar guy and he ended
- 3:12Speaker 3: up on the White Sox. Was the White Sox recruiting
- 3:15Speaker 3: pitch to him, Hey, we'll put in a biday for you,
- 3:19Speaker 3: and have you tried the bidet because if you haven't,
- 3:21Speaker 3: I'm telling you you need to go in there and
- 3:23Speaker 3: try it.
- 3:26Speaker 4: You know, I lived in Japan for a couple of years.
- 3:28Speaker 4: My dad played over there, So the bid day and
- 3:31Speaker 4: the power of the bid dat I get. But yeah,
- 3:35Speaker 4: I think the bid day conversation happened after we signed him,
- 3:38Speaker 4: so it wasn't part of the conversations in free agency.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Okay, well, then what happened to him? You know, because
- 3:43Speaker 3: everyone's like, he's one hundred million dollar guy, He's got
- 3:45Speaker 3: a chance to hit thirty thirty plus homers every year.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I'm super stoked at the White Sox on him because
- 3:51Speaker 3: I think he adds that power back in the middle
- 3:53Speaker 3: to go a Teal Montgomery and some of the other
- 3:55Speaker 3: guys that you guys have coming. So how did the
- 3:58Speaker 3: White Sox get him? What was the Were you in
- 4:00Speaker 3: on the pitches? Were you in there saying, hey, I
- 4:03Speaker 3: played in Japan. I know a little bit about the culture.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Maybe you speak a little bit of Japanese. You did
- 4:07Speaker 3: go to you did go to Harvard, right.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Princeton, But but no Japanese in my in my back pocket, No,
- 4:16Speaker 4: not at all.
- 4:17Speaker 5: Uh. And and really, you know, the.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Process happened really fast, and I just jumped in on
- 4:21Speaker 4: the tail end with a zoom call. Uh, just introduce
- 4:24Speaker 4: myself and talk about the things that are important to
- 4:27Speaker 4: our organization on the field level and the clubhouse level,
- 4:30Speaker 4: just to give them as much insight as possible. And
- 4:32Speaker 4: you know, that process again, was was really fast and
- 4:36Speaker 4: not something that I was really a part of upfront
- 4:39Speaker 4: until it got to that zoom call. And yeah, I
- 4:42Speaker 4: think it's just, you know, great that we were able
- 4:44Speaker 4: to get them. We know that this guy's a special player,
- 4:47Speaker 4: special talent, and you know, I couldn't tell you the
- 4:49Speaker 4: first thing about free agent markets or anything like that.
- 4:52Speaker 5: But I'm just no, I'm happy we got them.
- 4:54Speaker 6: Have you seen them hit live and in person yet?
- 4:59Speaker 3: I have.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Yeah. Yes, it's electric, to say the least.
- 5:03Speaker 4: But you know, at the same time, I think he's
- 5:05Speaker 4: you know, taking it easy, almost really using VP to
- 5:09Speaker 4: just fine tune some mechanics and just kind of get
- 5:12Speaker 4: his feel out there. He hasn't really let it loose,
- 5:14Speaker 4: but you know, even his nice and easy BP swings
- 5:18Speaker 4: is coming off pretty good.
- 5:20Speaker 6: Is there anything that you want to see in spring
- 5:21Speaker 6: training because all the talk about his swing, obviously I
- 5:24Speaker 6: wanted to ask you, like, I want to know where
- 5:26Speaker 6: he's putting balls, like he's you know, he is he
- 5:29Speaker 6: putting him over the scoreboard a camelback ranch, Like is
- 5:31Speaker 6: there anything like that? But is there anything you need
- 5:34Speaker 6: to see because all the rhetoric around him is strikeouts, strikeout, strikeouts.
- 5:39Speaker 6: Just something you need to see in spring training because
- 5:41Speaker 6: you can kind of get a facade of spring training
- 5:44Speaker 6: when you know each Row first came over, he hit
- 5:47Speaker 6: like one eighty in spring and everyone's like, this is
- 5:50Speaker 6: going to be a bust.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Well we know where that happened.
- 5:52Speaker 6: So is there something you in your mind or your
- 5:54Speaker 6: coaches are all saying, yeah, this, this looks good. It
- 5:58Speaker 6: looks like the strikeouts will be to a minimum.
- 6:04Speaker 4: I think you know, with him, you know what we
- 6:06Speaker 4: found out and talking to him in his experience in
- 6:09Speaker 4: Japan and maybe some of the ways that they train
- 6:11Speaker 4: over there are a little different than what some of
- 6:13Speaker 4: the things that we're doing here with some of the
- 6:15Speaker 4: exposure to the high v low and different shapes and practice,
- 6:19Speaker 4: and so you're kind of not getting ahead of ourselves
- 6:21Speaker 4: and thinking about, you know, what this could look like
- 6:23Speaker 4: down the road. We just want to help support him,
- 6:27Speaker 4: you know, in his practice and make sure that you know,
- 6:29Speaker 4: he's you know, feeling comfortable that that he's really engaging
- 6:32Speaker 4: with our coaches and getting what he needs to just
- 6:34Speaker 4: practice well and see how we respond from there. And again,
- 6:38Speaker 4: you know, this guy is very driven to be at
- 6:41Speaker 4: his best and feel really confident with with Derek Showman
- 6:44Speaker 4: and Joel McKeith and and our hitting department that that
- 6:47Speaker 4: we can support him and just through training, we hope
- 6:50Speaker 4: to clean up some of the stuff, you know that
- 6:52Speaker 4: that really can can help him be an elite hitter
- 6:54Speaker 4: in this league.

- 7:57Speaker 3: Well, what do you want to see out of this
- 7:58Speaker 3: team and how do the young guy take that next step,
- 8:01Speaker 3: whether it's Tel, whether it's Colson Montgomery, whether it's Kiro,
- 8:04Speaker 3: whether it's my draw. You guys have so many young guys.
- 8:07Speaker 3: You can even throw Mooney in there, right because he's
- 8:10Speaker 3: a first year guy in the major leagues. How do
- 8:13Speaker 3: they take that next step to become what White Sox
- 8:16Speaker 3: fans are hoping which is a really good core that
- 8:19Speaker 3: will take you guys to the promised Land.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Yeah, so you know, we've been talking a lot about that,
- 8:25Speaker 4: and certainly kind of the narrative around our team is
- 8:28Speaker 4: after the second half and then a really good offseason,
- 8:31Speaker 4: is that there's this momentum you know that you know,
- 8:34Speaker 4: we feel, you know, going to Softs Fest. The fans
- 8:38Speaker 4: feel it, you know, and and that's great and love
- 8:40Speaker 4: that and want to embrace it. But we know that
- 8:42Speaker 4: if we want to continue that momentum, we really have
- 8:44Speaker 4: to start at zero and build habits around the things
- 8:47Speaker 4: that we know are going to help us win. And
- 8:49Speaker 4: that's you know, things in the weight room, the things
- 8:51Speaker 4: in the training room, are the things in our preparation,
- 8:54Speaker 4: and then the really core details on the field that
- 8:57Speaker 4: we just want to build really good habits around. And
- 8:59Speaker 4: so we think that if that's our focus on a
- 9:02Speaker 4: daily basis, you know, we're able to be able to
- 9:04Speaker 4: create the momentum, were able to create an environment and
- 9:07Speaker 4: some some routines and some daily habits in which our
- 9:10Speaker 4: players can continue to take that next step and and
- 9:12Speaker 4: really grow as a group and turn.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Into the group that we think they can be.
- 9:16Speaker 3: All right.
- 9:17Speaker 6: This one's from the chat Black Sheep as will what
- 9:21Speaker 6: is Kiro's role going to be considering teals emergence as
- 9:25Speaker 6: an everyday player.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Well, lucky for the position, and you know as well
- 9:33Speaker 4: as anybody that it's a very demanding position back there.
- 9:36Speaker 4: And you know, yeah, we do consider a Teal and
- 9:39Speaker 4: every day catcher, but an every day catcher is not
- 9:41Speaker 4: catching every single day. And Edgar Carro is somebody that
- 9:44Speaker 4: between the reps that he'll get behind the plate. We
- 9:47Speaker 4: can use him as a DH love him against the lefties.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Of course he can hit against righty two, but you
- 9:53Speaker 4: know there's going to be passed to get both of
- 9:54Speaker 4: those guys in the lineup. And certainly, you know, Edgar
- 9:57Speaker 4: is someone that we value and we know that we're
- 10:00Speaker 4: better when he's on the field.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Well, let's ask the questions. I have a couple of questions. Okay, well, no,
- 10:07Speaker 3: I have a couple of questions. Well, I mean, he's
- 10:08Speaker 3: you know, Teo Kiro. They're both gonna get there bat
- 10:11Speaker 3: So that that was kind of an easier question than
- 10:16Speaker 3: the next one. Who's your opening day starter.
- 10:21Speaker 5: Opening start?
- 10:22Speaker 4: Yeah, we have joked about that with the media guys
- 10:25Speaker 4: here when we do our strum because of course that's
- 10:27Speaker 4: the question that comes.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Yes, really and often.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Murkin didn't ask because I know he wouldn't ask that
- 10:33Speaker 3: Mark because he doesn't want to.
- 10:34Speaker 5: Make bench it.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Before we even started started Mark, I was busting Marks
- 10:41Speaker 4: off talks about it.
- 10:43Speaker 5: But he's great and he gets in. We're gonna have
- 10:45Speaker 5: our process here.
- 10:46Speaker 4: We're gonna get going into these games and we're gonna
- 10:48Speaker 4: line some things up. We're gonna talk as a group.
- 10:50Speaker 4: We just haven't had those conversations yet, but certainly excited
- 10:54Speaker 4: about our options and our rotation. It all work itself out, okay.
- 10:57Speaker 3: And then I want to ask you about two props
- 11:00Speaker 3: that have been names for the White Sox forever, and
- 11:02Speaker 3: they're two big left handed prospects. Any chance either of
- 11:05Speaker 3: them has a chance Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith possibly
- 11:10Speaker 3: breaking with the team out of spring training.
- 11:15Speaker 5: No, neither of them are going to break with our team.
- 11:17Speaker 4: We've been direct with those guys about that and really
- 11:20Speaker 4: just want to set them on their path to you know,
- 11:23Speaker 4: get into their routine, get their build up going. But
- 11:25Speaker 4: at the same time, they're going to the guys that
- 11:27Speaker 4: help us this year. We know how important they are
- 11:30Speaker 4: to our organization for our success this year and in
- 11:33Speaker 4: the long term.
- 11:34Speaker 5: These guys are two special guys.
- 11:35Speaker 4: The way that they work, the people that they are,
- 11:39Speaker 4: These are guys that are going to help us for
- 11:40Speaker 4: years to come. So we want to just establish some
- 11:43Speaker 4: some good habits up front here. Let them build up responsibly.
- 11:48Speaker 4: You know, Hagen had the Fall League stint there, and
- 11:51Speaker 4: so just want to make sure that these guys get
- 11:53Speaker 4: into the season built up and healthy, knowing that these
- 11:56Speaker 4: guys are knocking on the door and it's going to
- 11:58Speaker 4: be real soon when they're in Chicago helping them.
- 12:00Speaker 6: Yes, you said you already communicated that with them. Do
- 12:03Speaker 6: you feel like you have more or less communication than
- 12:07Speaker 6: your managers had when you were coming up to the
- 12:10Speaker 6: big leagues as a prospect or just like up and
- 12:13Speaker 6: down and all your experience through your career.
- 12:19Speaker 5: You know, I don't know.
- 12:20Speaker 4: I do know that Buddy Black was a great communicator,
- 12:23Speaker 4: and that was something that I really appreciated from him.
- 12:26Speaker 4: His transparency and honesty really made an impact on me,
- 12:29Speaker 4: and as somebody who you know, was always felt like
- 12:32Speaker 4: I was struggling and trying to find a way to
- 12:34Speaker 4: be better and always felt like I was a game
- 12:36Speaker 4: away from getting sent down. I really appreciated his transparency
- 12:39Speaker 4: and his honesty with me. So you know, had Dave Roberts,
- 12:43Speaker 4: you know, as a coach and a manager, was the
- 12:45Speaker 4: same kind of guy. And so for me, you know,
- 12:47Speaker 4: I understand the value as a player and what that means,
- 12:50Speaker 4: and so I try and give these guys as much
- 12:51Speaker 4: as we can and just you know, be transparent, be
- 12:54Speaker 4: honest about their situation. You will provide clarity around their roles,
- 12:58Speaker 4: and I think guys appreciate it. And you know, this
- 13:01Speaker 4: game is tough and there's a lot of opportunity to
- 13:04Speaker 4: think about different things in your mind can go a
- 13:06Speaker 4: million different places. We just want to give these guys
- 13:09Speaker 4: some honest feedback, some guardrails to keep.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Them focused on the path and go out and do
- 13:13Speaker 5: their thing.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Hey, I know we don't have the opening day starter yet,
- 13:17Speaker 1: but what about the opening day closer, Sir Anthony Dominguez
- 13:22Speaker 1: or are you a guy that's just gonna roll with
- 13:24Speaker 1: the punches?
- 13:25Speaker 2: Says?
- 13:25Speaker 1: The ear goes on, will you name someone if someone emerges,
- 13:29Speaker 1: And I mean sometimes a guy signs with the team
- 13:31Speaker 1: so he can have that role.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Just curious for your thoughts on that one.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Yeah, Sir Anthony is our closer and feel comfortable saying that.
- 13:39Speaker 4: You know, we signed him to the close games for us,
- 13:42Speaker 4: so we expect him to be shutting things down in
- 13:44Speaker 4: the ninth inning most of the time. I think there
- 13:46Speaker 4: are gonna be unique situations. You know, we're playing the
- 13:49Speaker 4: Yankees and judges coming up in the eighth and we
- 13:51Speaker 4: got a one run lead, that that might be Sir
- 13:54Speaker 4: Anthony's time to pitch a little sooner in the game.
- 13:57Speaker 4: But we view him as a closer and just feel
- 13:59Speaker 4: really good about what he provides at the back end,
- 14:01Speaker 4: not only in his performance, but how that slots in,
- 14:04Speaker 4: you know, Grant Taylor, Jordan Leisure and the rest of
- 14:06Speaker 4: the guys back there that we depended on. Lates just
- 14:09Speaker 4: a really nice job of kind of slotting guys into better.
- 14:13Speaker 5: Roles for us.
- 14:14Speaker 1: So well, I've been told me a time for two more.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Aj is going to do one. I'll do the last
- 14:18Speaker 1: one here. The White Sox actually picked up a ton
- 14:21Speaker 1: of players over the offseason, right Kunya, Austin Hayes number
- 14:26Speaker 1: of pitchers we mentioned to Minguez Hicks recently newcom So
- 14:30Speaker 1: I'm just gonna give you the floor to just pick
- 14:32Speaker 1: one guy, not asking me to pick a favor or anything,
- 14:34Speaker 1: just one guy to give me either a scouting port
- 14:36Speaker 1: or someone you spoke to already or someone you're excited
- 14:39Speaker 1: to just highlight from the pickups of the offseason.
- 14:44Speaker 5: You know what, I'm gonna go a little outside of
- 14:46Speaker 5: the box here.
- 14:46Speaker 4: I'm gonna go Jared Kellenick with was a minor league
- 14:50Speaker 4: free agent for US, but a young guy who's tooled up.
- 14:54Speaker 5: This guy has just very.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Physical you know, I don't think he's been given or
- 15:00Speaker 4: have the opportunity runway and to really be himself and
- 15:05Speaker 4: really excited that you know, we're going to create an
- 15:07Speaker 4: environment for him to unlock the potential of this dude.
- 15:11Speaker 5: So I was certainly excited about all of our.
- 15:13Speaker 4: Auditions, but when you think about upside and a guy
- 15:17Speaker 4: that you know, we really feel strongly we could tap
- 15:19Speaker 4: into something really excited about Jared.
- 15:22Speaker 3: All Right, sounds good. I'm excited for the white tux
- 15:25Speaker 3: for the first time in a long time. Well, but
- 15:27Speaker 3: just do me one favor. Bob Beckdall doesn't arrive until
- 15:30Speaker 3: a week from today. You just say, how good does
- 15:35Speaker 3: he have it? He's the peer or he's the senior
- 15:37Speaker 3: pr director of Nothing but Bob. He he's not even
- 15:43Speaker 3: there and camp already started, So tell him when you
- 15:45Speaker 3: see him. It must be nice to show up whenever
- 15:47Speaker 3: you want.
- 15:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I will. I'll give him a hard time.
- 15:51Speaker 4: And you know, if it wasn't for you know, heart surgery,
- 15:55Speaker 4: I think Bob would would be here and.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Do his things.
- 15:58Speaker 4: So that's the only way that we can keep Bob
- 16:00Speaker 4: away from spring Chain.
- 16:02Speaker 5: We know how how much he wants to be. I mean,
- 16:07Speaker 5: apparently how old is that's a great question.
- 16:11Speaker 1: How well, here's the thing now, Yeah, I mean it
- 16:15Speaker 1: went well. I think so when he comes to camp,
- 16:17Speaker 1: if he's being a little nicer maybe, Yeah, things have changed.
- 16:20Speaker 1: It's got a little more heart whatever your insert dad
- 16:22Speaker 1: joke there. We love you, Bob, uh will. Great to
- 16:27Speaker 1: have you on. What just kidding, aj aj love hates you. Well,
- 16:33Speaker 1: he gets a lot of love on here. Well, great
- 16:35Speaker 1: to have you on. I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks
- 16:37Speaker 1: for joining us, and we'll talk during the season.
- 16:41Speaker 5: All right, Thanks guys, take care.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 16:44Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 16:46Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 16:47Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 16:51Speaker 1: This segment gets a huge boost when camp's opened back up,
- 16:54Speaker 1: because you get quotes left and right for the rest
- 16:56Speaker 1: of the baseball season. Isaiah Hunner fileffa formerly a Blue
- 17:00Speaker 1: Jays now of the Red Sox, said the Blue Jays
- 17:03Speaker 1: were glad the Red Sox lost in the playoffs last
- 17:05Speaker 1: year because they thought that the Yankees were an easier matchup.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Just telling it like it is.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I k Off, a former Yankee, as well a response
- 17:14Speaker 1: from Aaron Boone, manager of the New York Yankees. He
- 17:18Speaker 1: heard about it, and he said this morning, I guess
- 17:21Speaker 1: he was right. A little surprising to hear ikf say that,
- 17:24Speaker 1: But whatever, that's fine. That's something you would say. It's real,
- 17:28Speaker 1: like players do root for one situation or another because
- 17:32Speaker 1: they feel.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Like they But who does I can't play for now
- 17:35Speaker 3: Red Sox. Oh he's gonna say the Red Sox were better.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Smart by him, very smart by him. Also, who did
- 17:42Speaker 3: they beat in the playoffs?
- 17:44Speaker 2: Who did the Blue the Yankees?
- 17:46Speaker 3: Oh? So once again smart?
- 17:48Speaker 1: But okay, So then let me ask you this, since
- 17:50Speaker 1: we I just want your real take. Do you think
- 17:53Speaker 1: that it was smart and it was true or just
- 17:55Speaker 1: it was smart?
- 17:56Speaker 2: Like?
- 17:56Speaker 3: Do you think it was both?
- 17:57Speaker 2: I think the players might have actually been feeling that way.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Listen, what do we hear last year when the Dodgers
- 18:02Speaker 3: or last year after the Dodgers two years ago, Now
- 18:05Speaker 3: the Dodgers beat the Yankees. Oh, we knew we were
- 18:08Speaker 3: gonna beat him. Dah blah blah. Right, and then this year,
- 18:12Speaker 3: I kV is the first one we heard it. You
- 18:14Speaker 3: know that the Blue Jays didn't do that because they
- 18:15Speaker 3: didn't go on to win the World Series, so they
- 18:17Speaker 3: didn't get all the spoils. But also I cav was like,
- 18:21Speaker 3: he's on the Red Sox and they beat the Yankees.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Smart played by him. He also played for the Yankees
- 18:26Speaker 3: at one point.
- 18:27Speaker 2: For he's the new Steve Pierce playing around the Als.
- 18:30Speaker 3: He didn't to raise yet though.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Now, I mean he's got the time, he's got a
- 18:34Speaker 2: few years last.
- 18:35Speaker 6: That's a smart and it might be right according to
- 18:37Speaker 6: him World Series MVP Steve Pierce, Okay, Scott, let's just
- 18:42Speaker 6: make sure you let's make sure you say his name correctly.
- 18:45Speaker 6: But was he wrong? No, Aaron Boone said he wasn't wrong.
- 18:49Speaker 6: Booney was like, I kind of know, I CAF. I
- 18:51Speaker 6: didn't really see this one coming from him, but they
- 18:54Speaker 6: were eight and five eight and five against him during
- 18:57Speaker 6: the season, the Blue Jays were so they felt like
- 19:00Speaker 6: they matched up. Well, what did the blue Jays do well?
- 19:02Speaker 6: They're starting pitching that pitches. They don't just huck the
- 19:07Speaker 6: rock up there and see what happens. They have starting
- 19:10Speaker 6: pitching that's able to hit locations, mix and match, I
- 19:14Speaker 6: think better than a lot of organizations, a lot of
- 19:17Speaker 6: starting rotations do. But I think the you know, I
- 19:20Speaker 6: think the Blue Jays did that very well. And that's
- 19:22Speaker 6: the best way to beat the beat the Yankees. If
- 19:24Speaker 6: you try to outstuff the Yankees when they're hitting, you're
- 19:29Speaker 6: gonna lose. You can't out stuff the Yankees, and my
- 19:32Speaker 6: consistently outstuffed the Yankees in my opinion. I mean, he
- 19:35Speaker 6: saw what happened to Louis Varlin home running. Basically he
- 19:37Speaker 6: was going to hit Aaron Judge and he kept it
- 19:39Speaker 6: fair down the down the left field line for that
- 19:41Speaker 6: home run.
- 19:42Speaker 3: So yeah, he wasn't wrong.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Good for him. We love that.
- 19:47Speaker 1: This is another good one Mike Hazen, who I think
- 19:50Speaker 1: is one of the better interviews in baseball. If you
- 19:52Speaker 1: can get office executive, yeah, sometimes tough to get, but
- 19:55Speaker 1: when you get him good and.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Got him laster and spring training. He was awesome.
- 19:58Speaker 1: He was general manager the Diamondbacks for a while now
- 20:02Speaker 1: said he apologized to could Tell Marte for how public
- 20:05Speaker 1: the trade rumors became this offseason. This coming from Nick Pokoro,
- 20:08Speaker 1: who covers the team on the beat. The two recently
- 20:11Speaker 1: have had a number of conversations talking about Marte and Hazen,
- 20:15Speaker 1: including going to dinner together, and Hazen feels good about
- 20:18Speaker 1: where things stand.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Good for him, good for my case. And mi Cason
- 20:21Speaker 3: has been through a lot. If you don't know Miksun's story,
- 20:23Speaker 3: google it. He's been through a lot personally. He's had
- 20:27Speaker 3: a nice run as GM. He's a great guy if
- 20:29Speaker 3: you get to talk to him, and him and Tory
- 20:31Speaker 3: Levelo have been kind of like this since they got
- 20:33Speaker 3: They went to Arizona together from Boston. Good for Mike Cason.
- 20:38Speaker 3: He just showed that there is a human element of
- 20:41Speaker 3: this game. And he's sorry to kit Tell Marte, so
- 20:44Speaker 3: good for Mike cas And I know that we take
- 20:47Speaker 3: shots and we say how we feel about a lot
- 20:49Speaker 3: of things, and it always a lot of people think
- 20:51Speaker 3: it's negative a lot, but that's just kind of the
- 20:53Speaker 3: nature of the business that we're in to tell it,
- 20:55Speaker 3: you know, because nobody wants to hear everything's hunky Dorian,
- 20:58Speaker 3: it's butterflies and champagne every day, right. So but for
- 21:02Speaker 3: Mike Cayson to come out and say this and to
- 21:04Speaker 3: do this, I love it. I think it's great. And
- 21:06Speaker 3: I think there's more of this happens that people hear about.
- 21:09Speaker 3: I think this is twofold.
- 21:11Speaker 6: I think this was to talk about the Hey, sorry
- 21:13Speaker 6: you were in the trade rumors all that stuff, but
- 21:16Speaker 6: also there was a little bit of clubhouse stuff going on.
- 21:20Speaker 6: We don't know the extent of it.
- 21:21Speaker 3: We know that could tell Marte, you know.
- 21:24Speaker 6: Was was missing because of the robbery of his house,
- 21:28Speaker 6: and like there was different things that were going on,
- 21:31Speaker 6: and you know, it's it's a it's an opportunity to
- 21:36Speaker 6: move on and grow from it, you hope, because he's
- 21:39Speaker 6: one of your superstars, and he is a superstar.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Year in and year out.
- 21:42Speaker 6: That's why he would have brought in an absolute boat
- 21:45Speaker 6: of a trade prospects had somebody actually pulled the trigger.
- 21:50Speaker 6: And good for Mike Hays And if you go back
- 21:52Speaker 6: and watch the interview that we had him, a lot
- 21:55Speaker 6: of what they taught. He talked about a lot of
- 21:57Speaker 6: what Tory Leavella talks about is that people first aspect
- 22:01Speaker 6: what does that mean? And to me, those are the
- 22:04Speaker 6: orgs that guys want to play for. Those are the
- 22:06Speaker 6: orgs that deal with issues that if they had an issue,
- 22:10Speaker 6: we could tell Marte. Hopefully now it's ironed out and
- 22:13Speaker 6: the dude can go out and get some more MVP votes.
- 22:17Speaker 1: What if Mike Kazen threw out there what he was
- 22:21Speaker 1: looking for and wasn't quite getting it, but then a
- 22:23Speaker 1: team calls him, this is just like a no chance
- 22:28Speaker 1: now like a zero or is it no?
- 22:30Speaker 3: No? No? He went, so no, no, But he's just
- 22:33Speaker 3: saying I'm sorry, I got so public. He's not saying now.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Maybe he had a different conversation with Marte and said, hey,
- 22:38Speaker 3: we're not trading you. But as far as we know,
- 22:40Speaker 3: if someone blows them away, he's on the block, I.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Would think, because you can only trade him for a
- 22:45Speaker 1: little bit more once.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Once he hits at ten to five, he can't go anywhere.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah, he's had, he's going to rack up no trade
- 22:51Speaker 1: rights basically at the many season.
- 22:54Speaker 2: It might even be April, April or May. Yeah, whatever
- 22:56Speaker 2: it is, you might be right.
- 22:57Speaker 3: If it doesn't have it in spring training is not happening.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Then it's not happening.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 1: But you know, if a team loses a big player
- 23:03Speaker 1: and then they're like screw it at the top pitching
- 23:05Speaker 1: prospect or whatever it was that he wanted.
- 23:08Speaker 6: Yeah, he might still want it. He can still get
- 23:11Speaker 6: traded and it to me. To me, it looks like
- 23:15Speaker 6: it's what's a full season one hundred and eighty two
- 23:18Speaker 6: days or one hundred and seventy two days and it's
- 23:20Speaker 6: in April. Yeah, I mean, if it's one hundred and
- 23:23Speaker 6: seventy two days, he needs ten more days. But he
- 23:26Speaker 6: can still be traded. He just has to say yay
- 23:29Speaker 6: or nay to being traded. It's not like it's completely
- 23:32Speaker 6: off the table. It just he has to agree to it.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Okay, bet MGM. Future is ready for this. They have
- 23:45Speaker 1: a special for first time champions. So if you think
- 23:50Speaker 1: we will have a team winning a World Series for
- 23:53Speaker 1: the first time in franchise history, it's plus five hundred.
- 23:57Speaker 1: They group them all together. If you think no, it's
- 24:00Speaker 1: minus seven hundred. Mariners, Padres, Brewers, Rays, Rockies.
- 24:08Speaker 2: There are three teams in there that have a chance Seattle. Yeah,
- 24:14Speaker 2: there's one, just Seattle. Yeah, San Diego and Milwaukee have
- 24:19Speaker 2: no chance.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Not as they're currently constructed. Okay, not in the National League.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I'm sorry. And I love both those organizations, and I
- 24:26Speaker 3: love both of those fan bases, and I love a
- 24:28Speaker 3: lot of the players they have on those teams. But
- 24:31Speaker 3: as they're currently constructed, no they don't. Seattle was real
- 24:35Speaker 3: close to going to the World Series last year for
- 24:37Speaker 3: the first time and they didn't. Then they gave up
- 24:39Speaker 3: the homer. They Munas gave up the homer. Remember they so.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Seattle should be It wasn't even Munyos.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Munyas wasn't in the game. I apologize.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Sorry, No, Munos wasn't in.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Yeah it was.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Bizaro.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yeah, gave up the home.
- 24:57Speaker 2: But Maners should be better.
- 25:00Speaker 3: To me, the Mariners are the one. But I'll still
- 25:02Speaker 3: take the Knoway it a lot?
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a lot to so no for me.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Don't you get a five team special? There really a
- 25:10Speaker 1: four team special? I mean, are the Rays going to win?
- 25:13Speaker 1: Not likely, Rockies have zero percent chance. The other three teams,
- 25:20Speaker 1: like the Padres. Maybe everybody's healthy. There's an upticking power
- 25:25Speaker 1: from some of the guys who live back up to
- 25:26Speaker 1: the power. Uh, what's the word I'm looking for, potential attention. Yeah,
- 25:32Speaker 1: that's the word, Thank you Kratz. It's not like it's
- 25:36Speaker 1: out of the realm of possibility. It's just that a
- 25:40Speaker 1: lot of things would have to go wrong for a
- 25:42Speaker 1: lot of teams.
- 25:45Speaker 6: What it's not, it's not. I'll take to know for
- 25:50Speaker 6: sure on that. But I would honestly just rather go
- 25:54Speaker 6: individual spots with Seattle and maybe a little bit less
- 25:58Speaker 6: with San Diego. I would agree with Aj that, you know,
- 26:03Speaker 6: a lot would have to go right for San Diego,
- 26:05Speaker 6: Like they would have to really really make one other
- 26:09Speaker 6: big splash here, and I don't know that there's enough
- 26:12Speaker 6: time for that. But Aj Browner can do a lot.
- 26:14Speaker 3: He can do a lot.
- 26:18Speaker 1: He can things can change, especially at the trade deadline
- 26:21Speaker 1: it did last year.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Still a really good bullpen.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I agreed. I just don't know they have enough to
- 26:25Speaker 3: beat the Dodgers, the Phillies, the Mets, the Cubs.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, trying to be a spring hopeful.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I know, Thanks Scott, I got you. Only one of
- 26:36Speaker 3: those teams can win, by the way, so you say
- 26:38Speaker 3: you get five chances. The Rockies ain't winning the World series.
- 26:40Speaker 2: No they're not not.
