- 0:34Hi everybody. And welcome back to the space
- 0:36news pod. This is a show about SpaceX NASA
- 0:38and space flight. I'm your host will Walden.
- 0:41And in this episode we're going to be talking about Elon Musk in
- 0:44his cash infusion to SpaceX because he sold some stocks and
- 0:50he now he has a bunch of money so he can spend that.
- 0:54Money and anything and we believe he's going to be
- 0:58spending that money on SpaceX because they do need a cash
- 1:01infusion right now. SpaceX Starship huge deal.
- 1:05Star. Lake is a huge deal, the Falcon
- 1:079 in the business with NASA, and the Department of Defense is
- 1:10going well, but there's these other things in the future that
- 1:13SpaceX and Elon Musk have to think about.
- 1:16And that's what this money is going towards.
- 1:18So let's take a look at what he did Elon Musk sold.
- 1:24Billion dollars in Tesla stock, that is a massive amount of
- 1:30money, but that money is going to be taxed by the federal
- 1:34government. So 11 billion of it goes to the
- 1:38federal government in that, he has possibly another 2 billion
- 1:43ish. We don't know the exact number
- 1:45that will go to California, taxes.
- 1:47It's in between 1.5 and 2.5 billion because he did move to
- 1:52Texas at one point moved everything.
- 1:54Nothing from California to Texas.
- 1:56So there's an in-between time there were not exactly sure how
- 1:59much he's going to be this paying to California for taxes.
- 2:02So, 2 billion, California for taxes, that he has 3 billion
- 2:08left. And let's kind of dig into what
- 2:11he may be doing with that three billion because SpaceX has a
- 2:14couple projects that they're working on and SpaceX currently
- 2:19the Department of Defense, Falcon nine trips to the space
- 2:23station. Astronauts all that stuff is
- 2:26taken care of and all that stuff is paying for itself.
- 2:30But there's two things starlink and Starship that Elon could be
- 2:36putting money towards and they kind of go together as well.
- 2:40So Starship, you're going to need a Starship to transport a
- 2:44huge amount of starlink satellites to get the job done
- 2:48for the future of the space company.
- 2:50So SpaceX is building Starship. Down here in Boca Chica, which
- 2:55is about 20 miles away from me. If you're not familiar with
- 2:57where I'm from from Brownsville Texas and I visit Starbase all
- 3:03the time. I film down there, I get you the
- 3:07latest information and the latest videos from Starbase and
- 3:11Starship check out the Starship daily Channel.
- 3:14I post a link up there for you and that's where I post all the
- 3:17raw footage from my trips down there.
- 3:18It's really fun. It's a really cool really cool
- 3:22Channel with raw footage but Building out, Starship in Boca
- 3:26Chica. Because like I said before, it's
- 3:28the only way this space, the show is brought to you by
- 3:31backblaze. I use back place to backup my
- 3:34podcast, my video files, all of my writing stuff, and all my
- 3:38photos. And you get unlimited computer
- 3:40backup, for Macs and PCs for just $7 a month.
- 3:44You can backup your own documents photos videos.

- 3:50data from anywhere in the world using the web app and you can
- 3:53access the files on your mobile to iOS Android apps all covered
- 3:57in. This is a cool part.
- 3:58This is my favorite part. You can restore it by mail, a
- 4:00hard drive will come to your house with all your data shipped
- 4:04to your door. I could come to your business to
- 4:06and you can restore return refund program so you can buy a
- 4:09hard drive restore, send the hard drive back within 30 days
- 4:13and get a full refund. So basically they ship you this
- 4:16hard drive and then you ship it back and you don't ever pay for
- 4:19it which is the perfect program for somebody who has huge files
- 4:22and you don't want to waste it. Days and days, downloading
- 4:25terabytes and teraflops of data. And if you're worried about
- 4:28accidentally, deleting your files to bucks extra month, you
- 4:31can increase your retention history to one year, and I use
- 4:35it for all of my video. Files comes in super handy.
- 4:38So seven dollars plus two dollars nine dollars a month and
- 4:41you get everything backed up. He's a mind for up to a year.

- 5:26No credit card required go there sign up.
- 5:29Are you with it? It's really powerful in is
- 5:31really easy to use so go to back place.com slash Ilan back
- 5:35plays.com Ilan backblaze.com heel on this x can make starlink
- 5:44to scale because they want to kind of Encompass, the whole
- 5:49world with these Starling satellites starlink will be
- 5:52encompassing the Earth. And it is a low latency rural
- 5:57area Internet satellite provider.
- 6:01So, basically, if you want to play games, if you want to
- 6:04stream music, you want to stream movies.
- 6:05If you need to do work, if you need to do school stuff, if you
- 6:09need, if you just need internet, starlink is a great way to do
- 6:12that and right now they have to ramp that up in the only way to
- 6:16do that is to put starlink satellites, a huge amount of
- 6:19Sterling satellites into the nose of a Starship and get it.
- 6:24Orbit because right now it's not cost effective for them to keep
- 6:27flying them on Falcon 9's. There's no reason to use a
- 6:31falcon heavy though, it could lift more but they don't really
- 6:35have a fairing to put like a tins of, you know, like hundreds
- 6:38of these things in their hundreds of these stacks of
- 6:42satellites, I should say, to build a Starship in order to get
- 6:44those things up there. They're building Starship right
- 6:46now, but they've been having problems with raptor engines,
- 6:50the new Raptor engines are highly complex.
- 6:54And they're going to be more powerful than the current Raptor
- 6:59engines. The Raptor one's a raptor to is
- 7:01going to be a lot more powerful which means they can boost more
- 7:04things into orbit. So and also further than that
- 7:08to. So further down the line, if
- 7:10SpaceX wants to send things to Mars, they're going to need
- 7:12powerful engines to get them there.
- 7:14So that's what's going to happen with Starship.
- 7:17They need all that money to go into the Raptor development,
- 7:20they also need working capital, you know, they have working
- 7:23capital for Means such as, like, I was saying, before, the Falcon
- 7:269 launch is current Starlight, customers, Etc.
- 7:29But future working, capital for Starbase and also moving
- 7:33operations from down. Here are the coast to Florida?
- 7:39Like, how do they get this stuff over there?
- 7:40How do they move the things over there?
- 7:42They're going to need Capital to do that.
- 7:43We're going to need money to build.
- 7:45Starships for the hls, you know, they won the hls contract, but
- 7:49that was a low-cost contract from NASA.
- 7:51So SpaceX is going to Put some of their own money into it, just
- 7:56to kind of offset the cost, so they can get that contract.
- 7:59So, but they need to build that because 2025, I believe is when
- 8:03they're going to be sending astronauts down to the surface
- 8:06of the Moon and they're going to be using Starships to do that.
- 8:09And if they're not done by then because they ran out of money.
- 8:13That's not a good thing. So SpaceX needs to develop this
- 8:17Starship as soon as possible. And that's what this cash
- 8:22infusion is. All about Get it in there.
- 8:25Start building these Raptor engines because it's reusable.
- 8:29So these Raptor to they're going to have to make hundreds of
- 8:31these things because they're going to make multiple Starships
- 8:35at this point. And if they make these multiple
- 8:38Starships, they need multiple hundreds of engines.
- 8:44So 33 up Raptor engines on a, the base of a Starship.
- 8:49So, The booster 33 engines. And then on top of that,
- 8:53possibly nine engines, the on a Starship itself eventually.
- 8:59So, a lot of engines, just, let's just say, a rough 50
- 9:04engines about, like, or more than that.
- 9:08Yeah. But what about 50 engines?
- 9:10Yeah, rough 50 engines per Starship.
- 9:14So 50 Raptor 2's /. Starship.
- 9:18Four star superstar ship. So they need to pay for that.
- 9:20I need to pay for the development and they also need
- 9:22to pay to make them and ship them.
- 9:26Everything costs money. So, shipping them from one
- 9:29protection facility down to Starship cost money in order
- 9:33because it's far away. They have McGregor test
- 9:36facility, which is hours away from Starship, they ship them
- 9:41in, and then they put them on the, on the Starship, and on the
- 9:46booster. So, That's the thing you have to
- 9:48think about for the future of Starship is that the is a lot of
- 9:54costs involved. You have to pay for the people.
- 9:56You have to pay for the people that feed the people at
- 9:58Starbase. You have to pay for food, water,
- 10:02lodging gas, people. Fly it in people.
- 10:05Flying out everything. So in road maintenance as well.
- 10:08So SpaceX is kicking in for somebody for the road Highway
- 10:13for and the road is currently ripped up.
- 10:16There's half of the road ripped. Up.
- 10:18So SpaceX is kicking in for that because they transport heavy
- 10:22heavy machinery, down, those roads all day and all night
- 10:26long, and there's deliveries all the time down there.
- 10:30So they're kicking it, a little bit of money for that too.
- 10:32So there's costs for Starship that aren't just building
- 10:36Starship, you know. So everything has a price and
- 10:41SpaceX Elon Musk is putting that money into Starship so they can
- 10:46fly it and Get starlink operational, which will
- 10:50eventually start paying the bills for everything because
- 10:53that's it's a constant stream of money because SpaceX has
- 10:57Department of Defense contracts and they have NASA contracts.
- 11:01Sure that's money coming in the pipeline but it's sporadic.
- 11:05It's not every single month, you know, not, it's not constantly
- 11:08like hundreds of people. Thousands of people hundreds of
- 11:12thousands of people paying and a consumer business.
- 11:16Every month, they They have the Federal Business, the government
- 11:20business consumer business, and they'll also have trips around
- 11:25the Moon with your moon, that's already paid for, I believe.
- 11:28And there's other trips that people will be making to
- 11:31wherever they want to send them basically because it Starship,
- 11:34they can go anywhere. So future looks bright for
- 11:37SpaceX. They have a lot of money.
- 11:40Come again SpaceX might not get all of the 3 billion.
- 11:43They might get one or two billion from Elan but we're not
- 11:46exactly sure what That number is because he hasn't disclosed it.
- 11:50But anywhere between 1 billion of 3 billion is what we're
- 11:54expecting for SpaceX from Elon Musk.
- 11:58So let me know if you have any more information about this, or
- 12:00what you think in the comments, we don't really do Financial
- 12:03stuff on this channel that much. So I'm kind of like dipping my
- 12:06toe in its kind of fun. So let me know what you think.
- 12:09All right, that's about it for today guys, take care.
- 12:13Bye bye.
