- C0679: Your boss just called to tell you somebody complained about your outfits and he can't tell you which ones. My name is Sean and welcome back to Prayer Before Work. Now this story was shared by a woman who works in a satellite office and and it touches on something a lot of us feel but don't say. So she dresses modestly, business casual, right in line with the dress code, and her boss works in another office across the state. Now one day he calls apologizes and says there's been a complaint about some of her outfits, but he can't give any specifics. So she asks around and finds out one staff member thought a few of her dresses looked like nightgowns. Now they didn't break the dress code, but the head manager just didn't like them. And the advice she got was to stop wearing dresses altogether. Well she is fifteen months postpartum. She's still figuring out who she is now and what fits her changing body. And that one comment cut deep. But Jesus said something in Matthew six that speaks right into this. And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field and how they grow. They neither toil nor spin. Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now, Jesus isn't saying the clothes don't matter. What he's saying is your worth isn't stitched into them, right? The lilies are beautiful because God made them, not because somebody approved of what they were wearing or how they looked. One anonymous comment doesn't get to tell you who you are. Especially not on a season when your body and your life have been through through so much change. Now practically it's okay to ask for clarity. Maybe you just you know, a a a a calm email to your boss asking for the dress code and writing and whether anything you've worn actually violated it. That's that's not being difficult. It's just asking to be treated fairly. But here's the harder part. When someone judges us, it's tempting to judge them right back. You might already have a few words picked out for the manager and the expensive blazer. that's understandable. But it really won't heal anything and it keeps her opinion of you sitting at the center of the day. So you can disagree with how this was handled without carrying her around in your head all day long. Well let's pray. Lord it hurts to find out someone has been judging us from a distance, but remind us that our worth was settled by you and not anyone's opinion of how we look. And give us the confidence, Lord, to ask for fairness without being bitter. and be especially close to the new moms who are still finding their footing and let them see themselves the way you see them. And thank you for meeting us here morning after morning through this whole season. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Go make today count.
