Transcript
- 0:09Hi, good afternoon. Welcome Miller and Condon on a
- 0:12Friday, it's the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 0:15For the next couple of hours. We're talking sports with you
- 0:18and thanks for starting the afternoon here with us.
- 0:20Trent Condon and Ken Miller. We will keep you until 2 at that
- 0:24time off the bench. Sean Roberts, Lucas Strain, they
- 0:27take over. Here's what's coming up on our
- 0:29program. We're going to head to
- 0:30Pittsburgh. Russ Crew from Graphite
- 0:32Construction. He was part of the draft last
- 0:35night kind of behind the scenes as he represented the Chiefs,
- 0:38one of the fans that had their name drawn to be able to go back
- 0:42behind behind the stage and do some of the advance, get the
- 0:49jersey ready, the card ready etcetera before Goodell took to
- 0:53the stage and the player walks forward.
- 0:55We now know that who that is. We know who all of the 32 were
- 0:58in the first round. But I want to pick Russ Cruz's
- 1:00brain on just what he saw behind the scenes and how the NFL pulls
- 1:04off this absolutely massive event to 12:30.
- 1:08Eugene Repay covers Iowa State course he Travis Hines, all the
- 1:12Iowa State media will be entrenched it Jack Tri Stadium
- 1:17tomorrow is Iowa State will hold their open practice 1:00
- 1:21Likewise for Tom Caker, but he won't be at Jack Trice.
- 1:24He'll be at Kennick Stadium where Iowa at the same time will
- 1:28be holding their spring event. Tom Caker at hawkeyereport.com,
- 1:32football and basketball conversations with Tom and then
- 1:35Mike Palm, the VP of operations at Circus sports.
- 1:38He will join us at 1:30 the latest, go behind the counter
- 1:41with Mike, etcetera, etcetera. Just gambling topics with Mike.
- 1:45Palm is going to join us in studio.
- 1:47Excited about that. I don't think he's been in
- 1:49studio before, but I don't think so he has either.
- 1:51So we will have him at 1:30. Trent's picks, circus sports
- 1:56sponsor, those coming up at 1:50 and away we will go.
- 1:59Draft round one is in the books. The home teams ruled the roost
- 2:04in the NBA last night. Pretty good night on ice as
- 2:07well. Pretty fun time of year.
- 2:09How much draft did you watch? More than I thought.
- 2:12Like I watched picks one through 32.
- 2:15He didn't move. I thought I was.
- 2:17I was. I wasn't into it.
- 2:18Watch the whole thing. It's football.
- 2:21It's a terrible draft. Yeah, nobody cares start to
- 2:24finish. Couldn't turn off.
- 2:25Couldn't turn it off. No, no, I was not that deeply
- 2:28involved as you were, but definitely had my my attention.
- 2:31That was where attention kind of number one was now at the Twins
- 2:34hitting a Grand Slam to tie thing.
- 2:36So but then what happened? I know the bullpen, the the
- 2:41Knicks Hawks game had to get over there for the end of that
- 2:44one and just very quickly all of a sudden the Hawks are up two
- 2:47to. One.
- 2:47How about that? And a season and the the Knicks
- 2:49just look a little bit off. But yeah, a lot going.
- 2:52On teams look a little bit off. There's another NBA team looks a
- 2:55little bit off the plate last night.
- 2:57Too, And that's where I was throughout the course of the
- 2:59late evening. And that was in Minnesota last
- 3:02night. My buddy Rusted, who I talk
- 3:03about often, he was at the game and he said a lot of nerves
- 3:07early on, but that building was good and I saw the athletic
- 3:11writer for the Timberwolves, John starts with AK.
- 3:14It's a long. You know what KA something you
- 3:17have anywhere. Krasinski, something like that,
- 3:19he had a tweet last night, said he talked to Harlan in the
- 3:23tunnel after the game, said that was one of the loudest
- 3:26environments that he has called a game in.
- 3:28Really. Yes, which I was very surprised
- 3:31and Kevin Harlan's been a lot of.
- 3:32He's been a lot of big games. Absolutely.
- 3:35Tebow's fans were fired up and. Rightly so.
- 3:38They never had that run in the second-half were oh, here they
- 3:42come. It just was what?
- 3:44Was it at the? It wasn't quite 20 but it was
- 3:46close at after 24 minutes, was it not?
- 3:48Yeah, they were up. Let's see here.
- 3:50They were up at the half 6139 so it.
- 3:55Was. And just that ain't nothing
- 3:57spurt, you know, in in a minute and a half kills you like that
- 4:01Yep, kills you. There was nothing.
- 4:02The momentum and Joker. He is in a blender with Rudy
- 4:05Gobert. You mentioned it the other day
- 4:07after, after Game 2, I think it was.
- 4:10If you just look at the box score, you think what why do
- 4:12they play? Why are they playing Gobert
- 4:14right? Doesn't do anything.
- 4:16Take a closer look and and look what he's doing defensively.
- 4:19He's shutting this dude down and not many guys can try it.
- 4:22Not many guys have been able to say this over Joker's career.
- 4:25Just the the incredible job that he's done on maybe the game's
- 4:29best player. I think so, yeah.
- 4:31He's still mine. I mean, Wendy still has a little
- 4:33bit more to prove. SJ is just not my type of guy,
- 4:37as talented as he is. I'm with you.
- 4:39I do not enjoy watching him. So Joker has taken in the series
- 4:43now 24 three pointers and three games.
- 4:46He was 2 to 10 last night, one to seven in game 2/2 of 7/5 of
- 4:5024. That is 20.8% from behind the
- 4:54arc and with that volume and that just kills you.
- 4:56But it's because he's not scared to go inside.
- 4:59No, no, no. He just knows that it's not
- 5:02advantageous to go inside the way that Gobert is playing
- 5:05defense on him is Rudy Gobert, a Hall of Famer, 13 points, 12
- 5:11rebounds throughout the course of his career.
- 5:15It doesn't feel like. It doesn't.
- 5:17Trent No. Back-to-back Western Conference
- 5:19finals, there's those moments you have to take him off the
- 5:22floor and that's going to hurt him.
- 5:24But he's a four time defensive player of the year and that
- 5:27might be enough, maybe. Which it just feels.
- 5:30Weird if they get there this year would that help?
- 5:33Especially if he showcases in the finals.
- 5:36I mean, obviously they're a long way from a parade.
- 5:40That path is not easy. They're a long.
- 5:43Way from a parade at this point, but man, last night was
- 5:46unbelievable. Is Gobert Hall of Famer?
- 5:48Interesting question. You know what?
- 5:49I will defer to somebody who watches the NBA right night in
- 5:53and night out, and probably not the one to ask on.
- 5:55That, well, we had something right though what, 6-7 years
- 5:58ago, Desumu? Oh my God, that dude, the game
- 6:01he had last night, just. Thick.
- 6:03Tough. Yep.
- 6:05And you know, you don't need a guy like that.
- 6:06We'll just trade him away. Really.
- 6:08What are you doing? What it it's absolutely is just
- 6:12terrible, just poorly run. Well, the the bulls losses, the
- 6:15T wolves gain. He was unbelievable last night.
- 6:18They've got a chance obviously now to go up three one in this
- 6:21one. I don't think they will.
- 6:23I think this thing is going to be tied up at 2 a piece, but we
- 6:26shall see. And of course the good news is
- 6:29they're going to determine that on the floor, not on talk radio.
- 6:32So we will see. Yeah, I just got AI just got a
- 6:35tweet that yeah, Gobert will be remembered in back in the COVID
- 6:39era in the very beginning of it, yes, you remember that.
- 6:43And he didn't know any better. Nobody did, right.
- 6:46But yeah, that's that's true. All right, the draft from last
- 6:49night. Look, I I love your bears pick.
- 6:52Yeah, I do too. You absolutely.
- 6:54Have you seen the it's an, what do they call them overlay of
- 7:00Diggs, Jefferson, a couple of other players doing the 40 at
- 7:04the combine? Have you seen that?
- 7:06No Dynamite runs them all. Oh, wow.
- 7:09Yeah, You know how they do the Rich Eisen and you know, or
- 7:13against somebody. So yeah, I'll find that and send
- 7:16it to you. He is.
- 7:17He loves to hit. He is a very cerebral player.
- 7:22He can run. And the Vikings loss is the
- 7:25Bears game in my opinion that's they should have taken them.
- 7:29What makes it even a little bit sweeter for me as a fan, yeah,
- 7:32is everybody, it felt like had Dieterman mock to the Vikings.
- 7:36They did Harry the hit man. If he's not done, he's close to
- 7:40done. Yeah, maybe.
- 7:41What's? He waiting for right and now,
- 7:43maybe now maybe that is opens the door a little wider.
- 7:46That that he hey, we need you. We need you because we decided
- 7:50to go with Caleb. Banks off the injured.
- 7:54I have to put that in there every single. 2nd snapped his
- 7:56foot the day before the combine. He was practicing, you know,
- 8:00getting out of the blocks of for crying out loud.
- 8:03Look, as they said, who did you watch?
- 8:05NFL Draft or ESPN? Started ESPN, ended up by the
- 8:08time we got later on I was on NFL.
- 8:10Were you, Well, I if you were watching the Banks pick on ESPN,
- 8:14they called him, and I'm paraphrasing when healthy, a
- 8:19poor man's Chris Jones. When healthy, a poor man's.
- 8:22Arm length, size get off, but it's the first 2 words healthy.
- 8:30We'll see if if he can stay healthy.
- 8:33He is, I think I think that's a really good pick.
- 8:35I love what both New York teams did.
- 8:38New York, I think the city of well, they don't play in New
- 8:40York and get it, but the Giants and Jets fans, they enjoyed the
- 8:44night last night in a big way. The Chiefs could they have
- 8:48waited to get Delaney at at that point or Delane rather at that
- 8:53point from LSU? Who did they fear was going to
- 8:56come up because Sonny Styles was still on the board.
- 8:58So he's going off. Did they really think that the
- 9:01Saints were going to take they were going to take Delane means
- 9:04LSU kid. Is he from there?
- 9:06I don't know. I don't.
- 9:07Know that either, not that that matters, but maybe it could be a
- 9:10deciding factor. I thought that was really good,
- 9:13but I love what the Cowboys did. I love what your Bears did.
- 9:17Who else I thought was had good nights last?
- 9:19Cowboys. Yeah.
- 9:20Cowboys really good. Absolutely.
- 9:22Cowboys had a really good night, without a doubt.
- 9:25I like both of their picks. Caleb Downs to fall that far.
- 9:28I mean, that's that's great. I'll tell you who I hated and I
- 9:32if if you're a Rams fan today, you are apoplectic with this
- 9:35pick. There is no reason to draft Ty
- 9:37Simpson at 13 and nobody in the look, here's the thing.
- 9:41His teammates are going to hate him.
- 9:42Going to hate him. They're in win Now mode.
- 9:44Absolutely right. Who cares about 27 exactly?
- 9:47It's like when Peyton freaking Manning was there and they
- 9:51drafted Illinois. But the Brock Osweiler?
- 9:55What for? You just sit on the bench.
- 9:59You had an opportunity to get a running back.
- 10:02You had an opportunity to get Makai Lemon, any of those guys
- 10:06at that time, get some weapons to make a run in this thing.
- 10:09And you go out and you take a quarterback, a six foot one
- 10:12quarterback who's made 15 starts in his career, and Alabama was
- 10:17running him off the team. He couldn't beat out Jaylen
- 10:19Millro. For God's sakes.
- 10:22That's the guy you went for. Here's a terrible and I'm not a
- 10:25Rams fan, but I got a lot of futures.
- 10:28But so maybe that factors into my way of thinking.
- 10:31But what a terrible pick. Coupled with this caveat, too,
- 10:35it'll win that league. The Rams if Stafford has a year
- 10:39left, two years left. Mcveigh's been very close to
- 10:42leaving. For TV.
- 10:44To go to the TV house. So now you're having this
- 10:46development. We're going to have him develop
- 10:49under Sean McVeigh and then he'll be Sean Mcveigh's
- 10:51quarterback. I don't think Sean Mcveigh's
- 10:53going to be Stafford. Leaves, Sean McVeigh.
- 10:55Leaves. I'm right there with you, right?
- 10:57And that's another reason that it is incredibly difficult to
- 11:01wrap your mind around the reasoning behind it.
- 11:04If you think that McVeigh is going to be your coach for the
- 11:05next 20 years, I think you can sell it much easier.
- 11:08Unless he apparently thinks he's going to be the GM for the next
- 11:1120 years. Because if this goes poorly and
- 11:14The thing is when they rebuild because they are in when.
- 11:16Absolutely, they're the favorite in the betting market.
- 11:19That rebuild is going to be incredibly difficult.
- 11:21I mean, there's going to be salary cap hell like we've seen
- 11:23with plenty of these. When you have these old very
- 11:26well compensated quarterbacks, when you come in the back end of
- 11:29it, that rebuild, it takes a while.
- 11:31And after year two and three and four of a rebuild and Les need's
- 11:35still going to get that. It probably passed to Ty
- 11:38Simpson. He got another quarterback that
- 11:39you're trying out at that point. Well, if if Stafford says two
- 11:41more years, you almost have to get to that a fifth year option
- 11:46window. And whether you've seen him play
- 11:48enough or not, you almost have to take that fifth year right?
- 11:51Well, you would at least know or at least feel, you know, even
- 11:54without game action, McVeigh can't see enough.
- 11:57I would anticipate to say, yeah, we feel OK about this one.
- 12:00But I was with you. I thought that was absolutely
- 12:02terrible. I I got a kick out of all the
- 12:04Steeler fans all fired up and there you go.
- 12:07Here's a offensive lineman you can't.
- 12:08Pronounce with a really cool story, though I I do like the
- 12:12story, but yeah, right. I mean, stories are one thing.
- 12:14You don't win with stories. There's no there's no column in
- 12:16the when you're looking at the standings in the paper WL cool
- 12:22story. There's nothing there's nothing
- 12:24like that. But you know when you when you
- 12:26watch it and and the way that it unfolded.
- 12:29Mackay Lemon thought he was he was going to be drafted with the
- 12:33pick before he he was he was he was headed to where's he going
- 12:37to Dallas or to Pittsburgh, rather.
- 12:40Pittsburgh's on the phone with Lemon and Philadelphia comes out
- 12:45of nowhere, jumps in front of him to take him, which, you
- 12:47know, it's a really good pick, but my God.
- 12:51So, yeah, fun night. I thought the NFL does a 320,000
- 12:55people. How about that?
- 12:57Did you look, I mean, you saw, did you see any crowd shots and
- 12:59think that there was 320? No, not.
- 13:02I didn't either. Yeah.
- 13:03What do you think of the way they did the Steelers with the
- 13:05sticks and the Renegade was that was that?
- 13:07Renegade. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:08That's the song that they kind of.
- 13:09Are they from Pittsburgh Sticks? I don't know if it's just a song
- 13:13that, you know, they started playing and people got into it.
- 13:15I don't know the the justification behind it. 6 is
- 13:18Canadian, aren't they? I don't know you.
- 13:20Know. I would think I would know,
- 13:21yeah. That's another four letter,
- 13:23right? Four letter being.
- 13:24For back of the stand rush by the.
- 13:25Way you've told me I. Can't stand Rush, I have no idea
- 13:27how they got successful. Your last week, I'll rush.
- 13:31Yeah, I'll rush out the door a little earlier.
- 13:34Good stuff. All right, so the NBA draft, we
- 13:37continue on. We'll get to that rounds 2 and
- 13:39three tonight. I, when I was state, should get
- 13:42involved at some point with a couple of picks in this draft
- 13:46when we resume. It's 6:00 tonight.
- 13:49Did you say it was 7 last night? I think it's 6 I think.
- 13:51It's 6:00 tonight for the two rounds.
- 13:54All the NBA action tonight is once again on prime as the
- 13:57network stay away from that and away we go.
- 14:00Let's get to Jeff. He's been patient as we do our
- 14:03little NFL segment. Jeff, how are you?
- 14:08I'm doing well. I I can't.
- 14:09I thought you would open the standard talking about the
- 14:11weather last night. I mean, I know you're brutal.
- 14:14You follow the weather pretty close.
- 14:16Where, where do? You live, I live in Grind.
- 14:19So all we really had was some heavy rain and then, you know,
- 14:22Slater and Shell doll. Polk City kind of had a little
- 14:26bit more major stuff. My grandma, who's 87, lives in
- 14:29Colfax, so she's by herself. So I was kind of, you know,
- 14:34wishy washy getting her downstairs.
- 14:36She made her feel everything was fine there.
- 14:38But when I'm watching the weather last night, I thought of
- 14:41Ken Miller, you know? Meteorologist Ken Miller,
- 14:44please. That.
- 14:45Right, you know, for for a while there was like 1/2 hour stretch
- 14:48of time in Ankeny that the sirens never shut off.
- 14:51Or if they did, maybe it's just that they were resetting to go
- 14:53again because my gosh, it was one after another after another.
- 14:58Anyways, Jeff, what's on your mind other than the weather?
- 15:01First thing, Rudy Gobert, you know, for the NBA, it's
- 15:04different than other sports. When you're a four time defender
- 15:08of the year, you're really automatically in.
- 15:10It doesn't matter what he does in the playoffs, winning a
- 15:13championship, you know, because I believe he was the first team
- 15:16all NBA and that kind. Of was he really?
- 15:19I that was don't quote me, but that was before they changed it
- 15:23so you needed a center. So now they changed it where
- 15:26it's just, you know, five players.
- 15:28But I think when he got in, they had a vote in a center.
- 15:31Don't quote me on that could be wrong.
- 15:34But I think he's going to be not just a Hall of Famer.
- 15:37I think he's going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer, which I
- 15:40don't agree with, but I think because I'm not a big, you know,
- 15:42Rudy Gobert fan, but I think that's where it's going to go
- 15:45going into the Knicks. Atlanta series, Mike Brown.
- 15:49I don't know how this guy keeps getting coaching jobs.
- 15:52Mike Brown. It didn't do a great job with
- 15:54New York going into the playoffs.
- 15:56I liked Atlanta in that series. You talk about a flop.
- 16:01Mckell Bridges. What they gave up for him is an
- 16:04absolute disaster. Josh Hart has been a no man in
- 16:09this series. Last time he had two points.
- 16:11And then while you look at Atlanta and I'm not going to go
- 16:14over their roster, but if you don't watch the NBA, you have no
- 16:17clue who's on Atlanta's roster. I mean, I know he'll call him on
- 16:20the roster. He's a great shooter, ageless,
- 16:22But you go up and down that roster, Kaminga, it's been
- 16:25playing unbelievable since Golden State just gave up on him
- 16:29years ago. And here they are two, one
- 16:32series. It's been a fun series.
- 16:33Now you go to the Denver series and you look at Denver's roster
- 16:38and this has been a, you know, if you watch them all season,
- 16:41Gordon didn't play, but you're relying on Christian Braun.
- 16:46You talk about another trade, Cam Johnson, and it's been a no,
- 16:50a no show in this series and you're relying a lot on him.
- 16:53And then you, you know, you go down and Murray goes 5 for 17.
- 16:57That's a problem. Joker, like you guys have talked
- 17:00about Rudy's kind of been, you know, I'm not saying a huge
- 17:03problem, but he's been kind of like a just a scratch that you
- 17:06can't get on your back. He needs to be better.
- 17:09When we talk about Joker, we're talking about the best player in
- 17:12the game and we're talking about a top 15 top, yeah, probably a
- 17:17top 15 player of all the time, all said and done all the time.
- 17:20So if I'm thinking of a top 15 player of all time, damn it, I'm
- 17:25going to need you to be like that and get through the first
- 17:27round. And we all know this Minnesota
- 17:29has been they've been a phenomenal series.
- 17:32They've played a couple times in the playoffs.
- 17:34But I mean, going into this, I believe Denver was like a -, 3
- 17:39dollar favorite, something like that.
- 17:41And as this series has, you know, went on, it looks like
- 17:46Minnesota was kind of the the team so far to be in this
- 17:50series. There's a lot of games to be
- 17:51played at best 7, but we need Joker to look like a top 15
- 17:56player of all time. Guys, have a good day.
- 17:58Appreciate the call. Thank you, Jeff.
- 18:00Well, yeah, I agree. There's a lot, a lot of
- 18:02basketball left to be played. I'll defer to NBA people who
- 18:05watch the NBA on a nightly basis when it comes to Gobert, anybody
- 18:08as far as their Hall of Fame candidacy, I don't watch enough
- 18:11of it until it gets to this point here and the draft's over
- 18:17and it's back on TV. That helps.
- 18:19That helps the Amazon Brian. I had two iPads going ahead, the
- 18:23NHL, the NBA and the draft. All I, I hate doing that.
- 18:26I I just can't focus. Here's Russ Carew.
- 18:30He was at the. Draft.
- 18:31He was focused. Yeah, I bet you were.
- 18:33How much fun was it on a scale of 1 to 10 and didn't live up
- 18:36to? So when you boarded the
- 18:38airplane, we left you on Monday. You were, I think you left on
- 18:41Tuesday or Wednesday. But let's get Fast forward to
- 18:44last night. When you got to the event, was
- 18:47it all you expected? Did it not live up to
- 18:50expectations that was there something missing or was
- 18:53everything you could have wanted and more?
- 18:57Oh, that's a tough question. So reality is, I've never been
- 19:02to Pittsburgh. So Pittsburgh is a really cool
- 19:04town. Everyone I met here generally
- 19:08has been really nice except for random fans.
- 19:11Like last night I got accosted by a nine year old who decided
- 19:15to poke him back and come up and say the Chiefs suck, you guys
- 19:18suck. I was like, what are we doing
- 19:20here? But the draft itself, the
- 19:23experience was amazing. I am still floored today on what
- 19:27happened. I'll send some pictures and
- 19:31maybe you guys can post them for you.
- 19:32But like to walk into the venue is you have these sections of
- 19:36areas for every team obviously, and there's this giant mountain
- 19:40of swag for you when you're walking in or where you're
- 19:42sitting. And then we're meeting
- 19:44international fans of the year. If anyone ever gets an
- 19:47opportunity to meet Team International Family or do it,
- 19:50those people are amazing. I have run into them the entire
- 19:53time here and they have been the nicest people ever.
- 19:55I have hung out with Bill's fans like half of my trip.
- 19:59It's been crazy. But the draft itself has been an
- 20:03amazing production. The overall view of what you see
- 20:09on TV is nothing compared to what it is in reality.
- 20:12It is like a giant party in there.
- 20:15There is music that is so loud I needed earplugs.
- 20:18I felt like it was an Arrowheaded Points.
- 20:20They gave us actually like pictures that were mounted on
- 20:22frames and they look like a drum because of the bass, how much it
- 20:26was moving. So it, it's just a crazy
- 20:29production. Logistically, they definitely
- 20:31could do a little bit better with the setup and kind of
- 20:34communication on that with some of the VIP experiences.
- 20:36But in general, I would say it's a a very cool thing as an NFL
- 20:40fan, if you ever wanted to go to go.
- 20:43And then you get to the part where I got to do stuff that
- 20:46most people can't do. And I I'm still for it.
- 20:49Like, so I'm sitting there on Twitter because I'm a nutball
- 20:53and I'm on Twitter while I'm sitting at the draft watching
- 20:55people make pics and I'm like, OK, who's on the board?
- 20:58Who's left? And I'm seeing, you know,
- 21:00various people on Twitter just posting pics early.
- 21:03And I'm like, oh, no, I'm like everyone, everyone.
- 21:05And they're like, what? I'm like the Chiefs just traded
- 21:07up. And then I see this lady come
- 21:08screaming up to me who's like, I got to take you out backstage
- 21:12right now. And I'm like, what?
- 21:13OK. And I am running like 150 yards,
- 21:16like full on running 150 yards. Back to the pressing room.
- 21:20It was just like a maybe a 30 by 30 room with about 20 people in
- 21:24there. Every jersey you can see last
- 21:26name is all over the place in decals and everyone.
- 21:29And then there's these just giant huge pressing machines and
- 21:32one of them is like this crazy bedazzle thing.
- 21:34I will never forget this. It is like looks like my 12 year
- 21:37old went crazy with her little bedazzler and put 80,000
- 21:40rhinestones on it. And then they're pressing
- 21:42people's names in there and I get back there and they're like
- 21:44hey, who do you think it's going to be?
- 21:45I'm like, I'm like, oh man, Dane Delane or lemon And they're
- 21:52like, it's not in the pit comes in.
- 21:54I don't it goes so fast. I'm in there for like 35 seconds
- 21:57at most and they're like picks in it's Delane.
- 22:00The guy slaps it on there. He's like, what do you think?
- 22:02And I'm like, I'm not going to complain.
- 22:04So he he says, put out your arm after he presses it on, puts out
- 22:07my arm and he's like, OK, I'm holding it like I'm taking, you
- 22:11know, someone to prom. So imagine holding your arm kind
- 22:13of all cock eyed and weird. And he like folds the jersey
- 22:16certainly. And he's like, listen, you
- 22:17cannot move this jersey off of your arm.
- 22:19You cannot move the folding. You do not show it to anyone.
- 22:22I'm like, Dang, OK. And then I get ushered up to
- 22:25backstage and I'm seeing in their backstage the giants.
- 22:29They just announced the giants pick the the kid who has the
- 22:32giant shoes. He's walking up there and it's a
- 22:34couple of minutes ahead of the chiefs.
- 22:35And I'm just talking with the people and I get to see calling
- 22:38Wolf. I get to see Cynthia Froyland.
- 22:41And then rendez Barber is back there and I'm like, man, I
- 22:46didn't realize how tiny Colleen Wolf was.
- 22:49And she's like the lady is like she's got 3 inch heels.
- 22:51And I'm like, what? No way.
- 22:53And then since the Cynthia Froyland is taller than me and
- 22:56so it's just funny, just I actually got to talk with him
- 22:58briefly for a second. And then they run me up on stage
- 23:00and you guys of course don't get to see the awkward moments of my
- 23:04life. So I go on the stage and Roger
- 23:07Goodell is writing his name on the card because he writes it on
- 23:09the name of his name on the card for every pick.
- 23:12And so he writes his name on the card and he's just spinning
- 23:14around like looking at the screen, look at the other way.
- 23:17Look where the players come out because it's opposite side where
- 23:20the players come out compared to the the guests and then or the
- 23:24hosts and then the people hanging on the jerseys in.
- 23:26And so he's looking the opposite way.
- 23:28And I'm staying up there for like, probably solid 2 minutes
- 23:30just looking at Roger, Like, at one point I'm like, hey, Raj, I
- 23:34got the jersey here. Do you want to take this?
- 23:36And he's like, oh, yeah, yeah. So I hope Jacob.
- 23:39And he's like, what do you think of the pick?
- 23:40And I'm like, I love Delane. Best, best corner in the draft.
- 23:43He's not injured. And I said overall, you can't
- 23:46complain about a guy who only gave up 160 yards in the
- 23:49entirety of last year. No, no touchdowns, no
- 23:52interceptions. He's like, you know a lot.
- 23:53And I'm like, yeah, I know. And he's like, well, good for
- 23:56you guys. And so I got my picture taken
- 23:58with him. Hopefully here in a day or two,
- 23:59I'll get it from the NFL. So then I'm walking.
- 24:02They they take me off stage, Take Me Out back.
- 24:05I get to poke my head in the green room.
- 24:06I get to see all the other players sitting there with their
- 24:08entourages and everything. And I was like, this is cool.
- 24:11So I got to do. That and then as I'm walking
- 24:13back, they're taking you backstage and around kind of
- 24:18some corners and stuff. And I actually see Elaine
- 24:20walking with his girlfriend and his mom and maybe his dad or
- 24:24Asian or something like that. And I'm walking down the stairs
- 24:26parallel to me and I and he's just visibly happy, like so
- 24:31excited that he is crying me and he's telling his girlfriend he's
- 24:34like, I cannot believe that. I cannot believe I'm a chief.
- 24:38This is like the best opportunity, the best chance for
- 24:41me to be successful. He's like, this is my dream.
- 24:44And then as he's walking by, I'm like, and I'm hearing that I'm
- 24:47like, hey, welcome to Chief's Kingdom.
- 24:49And he's like, what? And I'm like, welcome to Chief's
- 24:51Kingdom. And you're going to love being
- 24:53coached by C Spangola and Dave Merritt, and you're going to
- 24:56just enjoy it so much, man. We're rooting for you.
- 24:58And he comes up, shakes my hand and, like, dabs me up.
- 25:00And then I walk back and I was just like, my mind was blown,
- 25:04Like so blown. It was crazy.
- 25:07Got to see you on the Woods pitch as you guys were front and
- 25:09center. You and Heather got to see you
- 25:11guys both up there too. Sent you a couple of pictures
- 25:14off the television. We we need to get you on next
- 25:17week and we're going to recap kind of everything here.
- 25:19You got a big night still in front of you.
- 25:21What you got? What do you got coming up today?
- 25:22Don't you get to go a little bit more back beside behind the
- 25:25scenes? So we actually this morning I
- 25:29got to hang out again with my buddies from the international
- 25:31fans of the Year and we actually got to go in the brain of where
- 25:34the draft is. So I got to meet the guy who
- 25:36physically runs the drafts. I got to talk with the guys who
- 25:39were on the phones when trades happen, the guy who announces
- 25:42the picks. I even got to meet a couple of
- 25:43international players that are doing their international path
- 25:47to play and hopefully get drafted night.
- 25:49So I'm rooting for a couple. It won't be tonight or probably
- 25:51be tomorrow night. I'm rooting for those guys.
- 25:53But it was so cool. You got to hear them talk about,
- 25:56you know, everyone's favorite team in the north that doesn't
- 25:58know how to make first round picks finally.
- 26:01So we got it. We got to hear all about the
- 26:03Vikings and what happens with that and the phone call that got
- 26:07made by the the guys running the draft to Minnesota been like,
- 26:12are you guys gonna make a pick or not?
- 26:13And no one answered and then they just had to move on.
- 26:16And so we gotta hear that story and a bunch of other stuff.
- 26:18So it's really, really, really interesting.
- 26:20I enjoy the next couple of days. We got to we got to move along.
- 26:24We will reconnect with you next week and recap the whole thing.
- 26:27I'd love to vicariously share the experience of what it's like
- 26:31to be at the draft. Russ crew, good stuff, Graphite
- 26:34construction group. Russ, enjoy the next couple of
- 26:36days, travel home safe and we'll talk to you next week, OK?
- 26:40Sounds great. Thanks guys.
- 26:41Have a Good Friday. Yep.
- 26:42Good to hear. Good to hear from you, Russ
- 26:44Crew. What a time.
- 26:45That's amazing. That is really cool, Really cool
- 26:47experience. We'll take a time out.
- 26:49We will come back. Eugene Repay from the Des Moines
- 26:51Register will join us. What's he going to be focusing
- 26:54on? I'm sure him and Travis have a
- 26:55game plan as to how they're going to absorb the Iowa State
- 27:01spring football practice tomorrow.
- 27:03Miller and Condon, we're on a Friday.
- 27:05We're glad you're with us on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 27:23Mary Conn's is just past 12:30 on a Friday.
- 27:27Still to come, our number 2, we'll talk to Tom Caker.
- 27:30Mike Palm will join us, VP of operations at Circus Sports
- 27:34Trends, Plays of the day, Circus sports sponsor.
- 27:36Those coming up here at about 10 minutes or so before 2:00.
- 27:40Let's talk Iowa State, shall we? Eugene repay Travis Hines.
- 27:44They'll be at Jack Trice tomorrow.
- 27:46Here's the particulars at 10 AM. The gates will will open
- 27:49northeast, southeast gates open. You're going to be on the east
- 27:52side. The fans in attendance, 1030
- 27:54stretching will start 12:30. It comes to an end.
- 27:57So they'll stretch for a while. Then they'll get down to
- 27:58business seating as I mentioned only on the east side of the
- 28:03stadium and they will have those 2026 season posters available on
- 28:09the east concourse. Eugene Repay as we mentioned in
- 28:12one register, he will be there. Eugene Trenton, Ken, thank you
- 28:15for coming on. Busy time for you.
- 28:17Football wraps up here. Well, tomorrow I guess wouldn't
- 28:21when you wouldn't Travis head up there, you're probably going to
- 28:26got a game plan as to what you want to watch, who you want to
- 28:28talk to etcetera. But I'm guessing one of the most
- 28:32maybe focused on areas would be the quarterback position.
- 28:36And is there really a competition when your eyeballs,
- 28:39when you see Flores versus Rayner in your mind, do you
- 28:42think it'll be close, how close we watch that, Eugene?
- 28:45Yeah, that will definitely be one of the position groups that
- 28:47we keep an eye on the most. It was compelling to hear that
- 28:50Zane Flores is right there in the mix with Jalen Rainer, at
- 28:54least according to what coaches were saying last week.
- 28:56But I think that this spring practice will show a lot more.
- 28:59Hopefully we'll get to see who's taking more of the first team
- 29:02reps That's going to be something I'm going to be
- 29:03looking at. How many throws is each guy
- 29:05going to get? What are they going to look
- 29:07like, a live situation? And then just any drills where
- 29:10they get to go, whether it's 11 on 11 or whether it's, you know,
- 29:14against coverage. Those are going to be very
- 29:16telling and I'm curious to see how it is.
- 29:18I still feel like Rayner is the front runner.
- 29:21It's one of those where maybe they're just talking or just
- 29:24trying to put in a competition. Maybe there isn't one, but we'll
- 29:28see more tomorrow. You know, just real quick follow
- 29:31up, I know you guys have had a chance to speak with Rayner.
- 29:34Has Flores been made available to the media?
- 29:37Flores has not been made available, but last week when
- 29:40they did have Rainer available, they only did one player per
- 29:43position group. So it was Rainer and then it was
- 29:46Keaton Roskopf. But I also thought that that was
- 29:48pretty telling as well. No doubt.
- 29:50And yeah, I think Rainer A prohibitive favorite still, even
- 29:53though they're going to push and have a competition and and
- 29:55that's definitely a good thing. So here's always the interesting
- 29:58about spring practice is you're going to have maybe the
- 30:01offensive line looks really good.
- 30:02That means the defensive line doesn't very look very good or
- 30:05vice versa here. You know, when you're going
- 30:07through your kind of setting things up, yeah, you want to
- 30:09spotlight the highlights, but when you're playing each other,
- 30:12that also leads to low lights on the other side.
- 30:15How do you do that as a writer and understanding that, yeah,
- 30:18there's something that looks really good, but if that
- 30:19happens, there might be something that looks really bad.
- 30:22Yeah, I think it's just more so just keeping note of what the
- 30:26the first team is looking like, what the second team is looking
- 30:28like, who the personnel is rather than what the actual
- 30:31results are. The other thing with this is
- 30:33this is only one practice. This is also a controlled
- 30:36environment. So you can't really, you don't
- 30:39want to overreact, you don't want to under react to anything.
- 30:41But more so just being looking at the units overall and and who
- 30:46who's taking those first team snaps, who's getting a bulk of
- 30:49the reps, Who are some of those guys that are trying to shine
- 30:51early. And you'll just like with any
- 30:54game, you'll probably see some players that will have big
- 30:57moments. And I'm sure the same goes for
- 30:59practice. So just kind of raining it in
- 31:01and kind of keeping it in the mental bank for when we get into
- 31:04the summer, when we get into the fall.
- 31:07Did those guys still stay where they were?
- 31:08Did they keep progressing or their new players that are
- 31:11emerging to the forefront? So just kind of keeping those in
- 31:14mind and just embracing this for what it is.
- 31:16It's kind of like the first taste.
- 31:18There's still going to be a lot of rust.
- 31:19It's probably going to be a ton of kinks to work out.
- 31:22But this is where they are right now will be a lot more further
- 31:26ahead and more telling them where they were two months ago
- 31:28or a month ago. No question one more on the
- 31:30quarterback was a battle position, but further down the
- 31:34depth chart, the imaginary depth chart.
- 31:37Honor Moberly, local kid what? What do you expect to see from
- 31:40him tomorrow? Obviously Raynor and Flores are
- 31:42going to draw the most attention.
- 31:44Will Moberly get an opportunity, do you think, tomorrow?
- 31:47I think they'll give them some synapse.
- 31:49They haven't shared the exact format for what to expect from
- 31:52the spring practice or the spring showcase tomorrow, but I
- 31:55wouldn't be surprised if we saw something common Moberly mixed
- 31:58in and we just got to see what he's able to do just for him
- 32:01being a local kid as well. And and also just staying with
- 32:04the program, being one of 40 players overall, 1 of 21
- 32:07scholarship players. I I think it'll be kind of
- 32:10remiss to not have them get any action.
- 32:12And but of course, most of the action will be, most of the
- 32:16spotlight will be on Flores and Rayner.
- 32:18You heard me mention offensive line, Eugene.
- 32:22You will realize in our conversations going forward, I
- 32:25talk a lot about offensive line and this is like the whole
- 32:28everywhere across the roster. But you bring in four Power 4
- 32:31transfers, guy from Michigan State, guy from Auburn, guy from
- 32:34Oklahoma. Feels like at minimum pretty
- 32:36good baseline of getting things started.
- 32:38What have you heard about that group up front?
- 32:39Because if you don't got an old line, doesn't matter how good
- 32:42the skill position players are, got to have guys that can block.
- 32:47Portal, this was one of their better.
- 32:49I thought they did an awesome job of the offensive line.
- 32:52It was clearly a priority. It was clearly enough just for
- 32:54them. This was the group that they
- 32:56rushed or quickly assembled compared to some of the other
- 32:59ones. And as you mentioned, you bring
- 33:01in 3-4 power Four guys in here and you have that nice base as
- 33:05well as a couple of guys that are returning.
- 33:07And to me, this is exactly what the core of the offense is going
- 33:10to be. They're looking to run the ball
- 33:11a lot. So I'm not surprised that they
- 33:13put too much emphasis in building this group 1st and
- 33:16emphasizing priorities this. But I think that this group is
- 33:20especially is going to be one of the most important ones going
- 33:22forward. They got to be able to protect
- 33:24the rain or they got to be able to protect floors or whoever
- 33:26will be in the backfield. But for if their main focus for
- 33:30this offense is to be run heavy and use a lot of play action and
- 33:34be physical, you're going to need the old line to do just
- 33:37that. And some of these guys like a
- 33:38Jake Taylor or DeAndre Carter, like you mentioned, coming from
- 33:41the SEC, they had some snaps. They have some experience not
- 33:46coming in with big booming resumes, but they're guys who
- 33:49have experience in those big time locker rooms and they're
- 33:53looking for a fresh start and a big opportunity.
- 33:55So what better way to do that than here at Iowa State in this
- 33:58new chapter? You know, this time last year we
- 34:00were talking about all the linebackers that they were
- 34:02forced to play the year before and how this should be a a real
- 34:05strength of this football team because they had to go through
- 34:08so much depth of those young guys got so many reps that
- 34:12probably than normally they would have been on the
- 34:14sidelines. Now there's what is there one
- 34:16starter? I mean, well, it's obviously
- 34:19Goodwin came back, but those are the 2.
- 34:21So we just don't mean it's, it's so hard to to look at this
- 34:25roster on either side of the football and I think really come
- 34:28up with a, you know, an opinion that you can actually back up
- 34:32with some facts because we just don't know, do we?
- 34:37No, and and tomorrow I think that's one thing too that I want
- 34:40to see. Just what does this 425 defense
- 34:43look like? How are they going to line?
- 34:45Who are going to be those go to guys, especially with Braden
- 34:47alls out to like it when alls was coming in that looked like
- 34:51the the marquee transfer on the defensive side just so
- 34:54accomplished that what he did in Toledo and then for that to be
- 34:57taken away. Now you you're right, like we
- 35:00don't really know. We don't really know.
- 35:01Sure we have village and we've seen them the last couple of
- 35:04years, but we don't know what these pieces are going to look
- 35:07like and how they're going to fit in with one another.
- 35:09So it's hard to really come with any speculation or or any
- 35:12credible analysis until we see what this product looks like.
- 35:15But that is honestly been one of the most difficult, challenging
- 35:18things of this offseason. You want to get excited for
- 35:21guys, you want to look at film, but what they did in the past
- 35:24doesn't really compare it to what they're about to do in this
- 35:26completely new system. Recruiting seems to be going
- 35:30pretty well here in the early going.
- 35:31They got a three star play out of Wisconsin, a linebacker.
- 35:34The biggest one Will Slaggle, who a lot of people had destined
- 35:38to maybe follow Matt Campbell to Penn State or even make his way
- 35:41to Iowa City. That's a big recruiting Will
- 35:43with Slaggle. I know you've been writing about
- 35:44that over at the Des Moines Register.
- 35:46Early returns pretty good here for Coach Rogers.
- 35:49Yeah, they've done a great job so far with the 2027 recruiting
- 35:52class and they just recently got their first defensive prospect
- 35:55with Keaton Wallin from Wisconsin, who had just a
- 35:58monster season last year on both sides of the ball.
- 36:02But they've been doing a great job so far. 6 recruits early on
- 36:05and Flaggle to me was just such a huge one to be able to we get
- 36:09him after losing him and to keep him here in Iowa State, like
- 36:13that's a massive recruiting win for Jimmy Rogers and also an old
- 36:16lineman as well. They have a couple of old
- 36:18lineman already in the fold. So that just continues to show
- 36:20that that's just another position group that they're
- 36:23prioritizing, really emphasizing and trying to build up here.
- 36:26And Slagle, it will be a huge addition and you got to be
- 36:29excited if you're an Iowa State fan.
- 36:31I know that he has the family ties.
- 36:32His uncle and his dad went to Iowa.
- 36:34They played. But when you be committed, of
- 36:38course there's all that uncertainty.
- 36:39But to just keep them here and recommitted, reaffirmed, that's
- 36:42huge for him moving forward. Yeah, I thought when he
- 36:44committed it at the tailgate, that certainly got the attention
- 36:48of Cyclone Nation in this positive way.
- 36:50I hate to keep defaulting to last year, but I kind of find
- 36:53myself doing so. So this time, remember Darien
- 36:56Porter switched from the offense to the defense.
- 36:58He got drafted by the Raiders last year.
- 37:00Was Nagoye following in Porter's footsteps?
- 37:03Nagoye, I don't think he played a ton last year.
- 37:06He's still around. I haven't heard a ton about him
- 37:09this spring. Any anything you could tell us
- 37:11about Benny Nagoya year 2 from switching from offense now to
- 37:15defense? Any anything come up at any of
- 37:18the press conferences on the Goya at all?
- 37:21Yeah, just a little bit on the Goya.
- 37:22They're impressed with his life and athleticism, which is
- 37:25something that we already knew about.
- 37:26But they actually one of when I asked Jimmy Rogers about one of
- 37:31his favorite groups on the defensive side, he said that it
- 37:33was a cornerback room. He thinks that there's a lot of
- 37:35death, a lot of athletes there. And sure, three of those guys
- 37:39were from Washington State, so he's familiar with a lot of
- 37:42them. But I'm curious to see how Benny
- 37:44and the Goya factors. And he did play when all the
- 37:46injuries were starting to pile up in the secondary there.
- 37:49He did get out there, but definitely still raw.
- 37:51I'm curious, now that he's had one full season at quarterback,
- 37:56does he take the next step while learning a new system?
- 37:58Is this system going to work better for him?
- 38:00But it'll be interesting to see if we see some Benny Nagoya and
- 38:04just the fact that he stuck around too, not many of them.
- 38:08So it's interesting to see how those guys translate or carry
- 38:12over into this new era. Eugene, I had my notes last
- 38:16night as I was making my notes for our guests and some
- 38:18questions I had is it's a dumb one now in hindsight, moving
- 38:22from the 335 to a four man front now, who cares?
- 38:26Almost all these guys are due so, but it is a new transition.
- 38:29Obviously Jesse Bobbitt coming in.
- 38:31It will be a different look than what we're used to under Haycock
- 38:34and what he employed defensively.
- 38:36What have you just heard overall, the defense in general,
- 38:39Obviously a new look for Cyclone fans from what they're used to,
- 38:41but how overall the defense has been going?
- 38:44The players that were here last year at 3:35, it sounds like
- 38:48they've been transitioning well to this new scheme.
- 38:50Carson Wellich this particularly as a guy that thinks that he'll
- 38:54be able to thrive better in this system.
- 38:55He thinks that the responsibilities are better.
- 38:57A guy like Zamir Hawk as well-being an interior lineman
- 39:00with a four man front. They also feel like it'll
- 39:02benefit him. But overall, this this new
- 39:05system, this new scheme, it's going to be a little bit
- 39:07different, but it sounds like that the team is really getting
- 39:11it down pat So far. I'm, I'm just, you know, what's
- 39:14one of those where it's like, we need to see what this product
- 39:16looks like against opposing teams, other teams in the
- 39:20conference. It's nice to hear that they're
- 39:21excited. It's nice to hear that guys are
- 39:23picking it up and learning it. But until we see some meaningful
- 39:27reps, especially if this is where they the defensive side,
- 39:30they want this to be their bread and butter moving forward, the
- 39:32core of their identity as a team, we can't really make any
- 39:37full judgments until we see them hit other opposing jerseys,
- 39:40other teams and other players and things like that.
- 39:43But so far the the early returns have been good.
- 39:46But it's only 15 practices, so we'll need to see a little more
- 39:50live before we can really start to invest stock in it.
- 39:54Wrapping up with a little basketball news from the other
- 39:56day. Iowa going to play most state
- 39:58down in Kansas City, 5 neutral court games are going to open
- 40:01things up early in the season against Memphis, up in Sioux
- 40:04Falls and of course. The three games of the Players
- 40:06Era tournament schedule starting to come together here.
- 40:09Do you like the makeup that you're seeing so far of what's
- 40:11going to be the non conference schedule this season?
- 40:14Yeah, I totally did not expect to see all these new neutral
- 40:17site games coming up like you mentioned, the one and two falls
- 40:20coming back there again for the season opener against Memphis
- 40:22and now this one against Missouri State.
- 40:24I think it's you're an Iowa State fan.
- 40:27It's it's I'm curious to see how they show up.
- 40:29We all know that they love to travel and Kansas City is
- 40:32obviously a favorite destination.
- 40:33And now they get to go there early in the season before the
- 40:36way before the Big 12 tournament to see what will probably be a
- 40:40Gimme, but just add some excitement, adds intrigue and
- 40:44and just being invited to the Hall of Fame classic for the
- 40:46first time since 2014. That's not the marquee opponents
- 40:49that they faced that last time they were there.
- 40:51But it's still just a cool opportunity for the non con to
- 40:53really switch things up and and you know, just not be a cupcake
- 40:58factory at at the Hilton Coliseum or whatever it may be.
- 41:01Just mixing it up and adding some new destinations and banks.
- 41:04I'm. All for that good stuff, Eugene,
- 41:05repay Des Moines Register. Eugene, thanks for popping on.
- 41:08We'll read all yours and Travis's coverage of the spring
- 41:12football tomorrow so at desmoinesregister.com
- 41:15desmoinesregister.com for Eugene.
- 41:17Thank you Sir. Talk to you next week.
- 41:18Appreciate it. Good to talk to you.
- 41:22Eugene repay on Iowa State. So this this is a topic for for
- 41:25months from now. OK.
- 41:26But, and usually one we would get to in late June with this
- 41:31new roster, how do you reward somebody to take them to media
- 41:35day? Did you just default to who was
- 41:38ever sticking around that they're going to start that?
- 41:40Is intriguing. Do you take the quarterback you
- 41:46have? To take Rainer, Yeah, and again,
- 41:48we're way ahead of ourselves. But but when it comes to I was,
- 41:51it's just Carson Willick cinch in bookie ticket.
- 41:58People find out. I don't know.
- 42:00Yeah. Is he going to take one of his
- 42:02new guys? But how many spring game stars
- 42:04have we seen then and then don't?
- 42:06No, I'm not saying that they you have to start tomorrow.
- 42:09No, no. But if you're using that as kind
- 42:11of, oh, sure, this guy's going to go because he had to bring
- 42:14and then those guys don't even play, Yeah, we see that.
- 42:17See. That see every.
- 42:18Year. Yeah, absolutely.
- 42:19Would it be? Maybe.
- 42:20Some of the Washington State guys probably have a leg up.
- 42:23Well, you got to take Rayner because he's the QB and he's the
- 42:25newbie and at the position, right, right.
- 42:27And and you got to take Willich because he's been there and
- 42:30played a bunch, yes, but he's has he played more than anybody
- 42:33else that's still there. He has to have.
- 42:35I I think so. Samir Hawk was there for was he
- 42:36one year? He said this is a second.
- 42:39He played two. Years.
- 42:39Did he play? 2 years.
- 42:40Yeah, he played a little bit as a red shirt.
- 42:41OK, not a lot, but yeah, he got some snaps, but in terms.
- 42:44Of between those two, Serge has missed a lot of time.
- 42:46Last year, coffee's been banged up, yeah.
- 42:50You got to take the QB, you got to take Willich and then and
- 42:53they take one of the wazoo guys I guess, or they did last year I
- 42:57think. Austin Barnett Barrett, I mean.
- 43:00Barrett, you're the lineman, Yeah.
- 43:02Possibly. If he starts or if he's.
- 43:04Trending towards starting at least, but if he's going to be
- 43:07your 11th offense lineman, probably not.
- 43:08Wild. Absolutely wild.
- 43:11We'll take our final time out. We'll come back our number 2,
- 43:14Tom Cacert hawkeyereport.com. They too will have their spring
- 43:18extravaganza tomorrow. We'll talk to Tom about what he
- 43:22expects to see there. Mike Palm is going to join us,
- 43:26VP of Operations at Circus Sports.
- 43:28Look forward to seeing Mike and then Trent will make his plays
- 43:31of the day. How did you do yesterday?
- 43:34Not great. Two and four.
- 43:35Two and four, so you're a really good start.
- 43:38Two and one on props, though those props continue to hit, you
- 43:41know. Maybe you should give up the
- 43:43playing games. Oh God, no.
- 43:46It's my entertainment tax. No, I get it.
- 43:49Miller and Condon, our final segment, our number one, it's
- 43:51coming up next following these quick break.
- 43:54I forgot, damn it, I just realized it.
- 43:56Give you the keyword. I, well, we'll see if I head to
- 43:59KX and o.com. The keyword this hour is or was
- 44:03COIN depending on if it's too late, I promise to hit it in the
- 44:06next hour. It's a nationwide contest.
- 44:08Your chance to win $1000. The keyword this hour was COIN.
- 44:11COIN at KX and o.com. Miller and Condon on the Iowa
- 44:15Sports Radio. I'm Hillary Condon, welcome
- 44:25back. Final couple of minutes, hour
- 44:27number one, Tom Kicker on Iowa, Mike Palm in studio, Circa
- 44:31Sports VP coming up here at about 1:30.
- 44:34Baseball yesterday, Cubs had another injury to the bullpen.
- 44:37Field Bar came in to pitch the 9th.
- 44:39He couldn't finish the inning. Of course they promptly blew
- 44:43that save, but then the sod comes in and and cleans things
- 44:48up and gets credited with the win.
- 44:50Phillies were down, I think it was 6.
- 44:51Two came back tied at six, six and Suzuki is starting to hit
- 44:55the ball a little bit. That's back-to-back to back
- 44:57days, I think with a home run. So Cubs will head to LA with a
- 45:01nine game-winning streak in tow. How about that?
- 45:04And running away with things suddenly, no, not so much.
- 45:07Still a game and a half. Well tied with the Reds there,
- 45:10but still everybody above 500. We talked about that Monday of
- 45:13the week and it continues. Everybody keeping their head
- 45:17above water. Who's?
- 45:18The most surprising team in the division thanks the Cardinals.
- 45:22I think so too, yeah. 14 and 10. Reds are a playoff team.
- 45:27Pirates we both like. I mean both like them to flirt
- 45:29with 500. That's probably still a likely
- 45:32scenario for them. Maybe the Brewers bad start?
- 45:36Didn't they start off working on fire in the first couple of
- 45:39weeks of the year? It was like the first week,
- 45:41yeah. And then it went and now they're
- 45:43right back at it once again going to be a great race.
- 45:46It is well done for the Cardinals 14 and 10.
- 45:49We'll take time out. We'll come back.
- 45:50Tom Caker will join us. Our number two, our final over
- 45:53hour of the week. It's next.
- 45:55We're glad you're with us wherever you are listening on
- 45:57the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
