- Lucas: And we are back for another episode of Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas, I'm excited. Last time we did playground stuff, but today I want to talk about family. Lucas: Oh, perfect. Family is a great topic. We've done basic family before, but today we'll go a little further. Luna: Yes, we already know mother and father, but what about grandparents? Lucas: Right. So let's start with grandmother. In Spanish, grandmother is la abuela. Luna: La abuela. Lucas: Good. And grandfather is el abuelo. Luna: El abuelo. So abuela and abuelo. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice: la abuela, el abuelo. Luna: La abuela, el abuelo. I love that. My grandmother is very sweet. Lucas: Aww, that's nice. Now, how about aunt and uncle? Aunt is la tía. Luna: La tía. Lucas: And uncle is el tío. Luna: El tío. So tía and tío. Lucas: Yes. And cousin is el primo for a male cousin, and la prima for a female cousin. Luna: El primo, la prima. That's easy to remember. Lucas: Yeah, it's straightforward. Let's do a quick scene. Imagine you're showing a photo of your family. Luna: Okay. Lucas: You point and say: Esta es mi abuela. Este es mi abuelo. Luna: Esta es mi abuela. Este es mi abuelo. Lucas: Perfect. Now add: Ella es mi tía. Él es mi tío. Luna: Ella es mi tía. Él es mi tío. Lucas: And then: Él es mi primo. Ella es mi prima. Luna: Él es mi primo. Ella es mi prima. I think I've got it. Lucas: Let's practice all together. Repeat after me: la abuela, el abuelo, la tía, el tío, el primo, la prima. Luna: La abuela, el abuelo, la tía, el tío, el primo, la prima. That feels good. Lucas: Now let's do a conversation. I'll ask a question, and you answer. Luna: Okay. Lucas: ¿Quién es ella? Point to a photo. Luna: Ella es mi abuela. Lucas: Yes! And ¿quién es él? Luna: Él es mi tío. Lucas: Exactly. You're doing great. Luna: Thanks. So, when I introduce my family, I can say: Esta es mi abuela, este es mi abuelo, ella es mi tía, él es mi tío, él es mi primo, ella es mi prima. Lucas: That's perfect. You can even say: Mi abuela es muy cariñosa. Luna: Mi abuela es muy cariñosa. What does cariñosa mean? Lucas: Affectionate. And my grandfather is funny: Mi abuelo es divertido. Luna: Mi abuelo es divertido. I like that. Lucas: Now, you try describing your aunt. Luna: Mi tía es inteligente. Lucas: Very good. And your uncle? Luna: Mi tío es alto. Lucas: Nice. And your cousins? Luna: Mi primo es deportista. Mi prima es artística. Lucas: Excellent. You're using adjectives too. That's great. Luna: I think I can now talk about my extended family in Spanish.
