- 3:14Speaker 2: this morning, and I'm pretty sure that this has been
- 3:19Speaker 2: cleared up. But there was a tire in the road
- 3:23Speaker 2: on eighty nine northbound near Exit nine, near the left
- 3:28Speaker 2: hand lane, near the passing lane. So I believe that's
- 3:32Speaker 2: been cleared up. But if it hasn't, just exercised some
- 3:36Speaker 2: caution in that area. If you can. Weather today going

- 5:03Speaker 2: Mental Health presenting sponsor of the aired out podcast, deb
- 5:07Speaker 2: Phillips from the world is actually not going to be
- 5:11Speaker 2: able to join us on the air this morning. Why
- 5:13Speaker 2: you ask, Well, she's got some issues trying to get
- 5:17Speaker 2: out of the driveway, and that's the case for a
- 5:21Speaker 2: lot of people. But those snow drifts were huge, and
- 5:26Speaker 2: if you had a clear driveway yesterday and it looked good,
- 5:32Speaker 2: you might be waking up this morning to see, you know,
- 5:35Speaker 2: a three foot snowbank in your driveway. So you know,
- 5:41Speaker 2: keep that mind. A lot of people without power from
- 5:44Speaker 2: those winds last night here and Vermont utilities are busy
- 5:48Speaker 2: working on it. Formont News. Montpelier City Manager Bill Frasier's
- 5:52Speaker 2: departure could cost the city upwards of a quarter of
- 5:58Speaker 2: a million dollars. You can read the full story. Dave
- 6:02Speaker 2: delcre wrote it up. It's in the Times Argust this morning.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Also the two of the biggest stories in from a
- 6:08Speaker 2: Two people found dead in a car along Route fourteen
- 6:11Speaker 2: Friday night around nine to thirty, a sixty three year
- 6:15Speaker 2: old male and a fifty nine year old female. An
- 6:19Speaker 2: investigation is underway but it is being ruled non suspicious. Meanwhile,
- 6:25Speaker 2: for Monts Date, police investigating after a body was found
- 6:28Speaker 2: in a flaming car in Warren yesterday morning a car
- 6:34Speaker 2: that was on fire. Please say the fire was first
- 6:37Speaker 2: reported by a passer by around eleven thirty in the
- 6:40Speaker 2: morning at a parking lot on Route one hundred. For
- 6:45Speaker 2: Monts Day, please say this is also under investigation and
- 6:49Speaker 2: is being ruled non suspicious. National Headlines Eighteen people injured
- 6:57Speaker 2: after that Delta Airlines flight craft on the runway at
- 7:02Speaker 2: Toronto's Pearson International Airport while attempting to land yesterday afternoon.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Eighty people on board from Minneapolis making that hard landing
- 7:14Speaker 2: in snowy conditions and ended up upside down. One of
- 7:19Speaker 2: the wings was just shorn right off as the aircraft tumbled,
- 7:26Speaker 2: spitting out a huge fireball and leaving passengers hanging upside
- 7:32Speaker 2: upside down in their seats. Everybody on board evacuated safely.
- 7:38Speaker 2: None of the injuries appear to be life threatening. I
- 7:41Speaker 2: know there was a child in at least two adults
- 7:45Speaker 2: late yesterday and early evening who were in critical condition,
- 7:50Speaker 2: but from what I understand, nothing is life threatening. How
- 7:55Speaker 2: many times is there a plane crash where there's there
- 7:58Speaker 2: aren't fatalities. I mean, what a miracle, what a story,
- 8:03Speaker 2: my guests this morning. I am so excited to welcome
- 8:07Speaker 2: Mark and Angie Duncan of the Freezing Fund for Family's
- 8:11Speaker 2: annual Winter Softball Tournament, with its twenty fifth year coming
- 8:17Speaker 2: up in a short time the final weekend of this month,
- 8:21Speaker 2: and welcome both of you from Conquord, New Hampshire.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Thank you, JD. What a pleasure.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Yeah, what a pleasure to have you here. You guys,
- 8:30Speaker 2: we have so much to talk about. But first off,
- 8:33Speaker 2: before we even get going, let's give a shout out
- 8:35Speaker 2: to Wendell and Corey, two of the drivers of this
- 8:40Speaker 2: amazing event. These are great guys.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yeah. So, actually we came up last night and Corey
- 8:48Speaker 3: put us up in his house and we had a
- 8:51Speaker 3: chance to catch up and go to dinner and spend
- 8:55Speaker 3: some time with his family. Yeah, and just even have
- 9:00Speaker 3: than to to run into the Peakorp family from the
- 9:04Speaker 3: corry as well. So, you know, great start to our
- 9:08Speaker 3: visit this time back to Barry. Yeah, so developed, you know,
- 9:14Speaker 3: first just knowing Corey from from coming to the tournament
- 9:18Speaker 3: and you know, growing to become friends with him inside
- 9:23Speaker 3: and outside of the tournament. So as you know JD's
- 9:26Speaker 3: he's done so much for the tournament over the years
- 9:31Speaker 3: now is changing his role a bit and allowing some others,
- 9:36Speaker 3: including Wendell Morse and other great volunteers, to step up
- 9:40Speaker 3: and help take the reins.
- 9:42Speaker 2: This thing has turned into a monster over the last
- 9:48Speaker 2: twenty five years, and I am so not surprised that
- 9:52Speaker 2: Corey has has rallied others to to really assist in
- 9:58Speaker 2: in driving this thing. I mean, and it's massive, it's huge,
- 10:01Speaker 2: and thank god for Wendell. Yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Yeah, So along with Wendell a number of long time volunteers.
- 10:12Speaker 3: You've got Sarah Touchett, You've got Meg, You've got Judy.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Who am I missing? Oh goodness you are? Uh, But
- 10:24Speaker 3: since we've been coming, we see the same face as
- 10:27Speaker 3: year in and year out, and we look forward to
- 10:30Speaker 3: seeing them, you know, and our our participation in the
- 10:36Speaker 3: tournament and support for the tournament, you know, started with playing,
- 10:42Speaker 3: but evolved into trying to support it in you know,
- 10:46Speaker 3: in further ways, just doing things from the start, like
- 10:50Speaker 3: staying after the tournament picking up a few picnic tables.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah. But for those of you that are just joining us,
- 10:57Speaker 2: markin anchie duncan just one.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Small corrections Angie Kerrey, Oh, okay, practically married but not
- 11:06Speaker 3: quite Yes.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I understand understand you guys have been team Conquered Orthopedics.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Yeah, for about the past five years ago years or so.
- 11:20Speaker 3: So We've had a few sponsors over the years, but
- 11:22Speaker 3: very pleased to have the support of Conquered Orthopedics over
- 11:27Speaker 3: this past run of the team.
- 11:29Speaker 2: So for folks that are just joining us, who are saying,
- 11:33Speaker 2: what the heck are we talking about here? Freezing fun
- 11:35Speaker 2: for families, This is a winter softball tournament in its
- 11:40Speaker 2: twenty fifth year now, and the mission of this tournament
- 11:45Speaker 2: has always been to support local families here in the
- 11:50Speaker 2: North Country who are fighting a good fight, a great
- 11:55Speaker 2: fight against pediatric cancer. And it's not just the child
- 12:02Speaker 2: but it's their immediate family and surrounding family, and it
- 12:07Speaker 2: goes one step beyond that, which is you guys and
- 12:12Speaker 2: all of the players, supporters, spectators, volunteers that make up
- 12:19Speaker 2: freezing fun for families as the big umbrella. That's the
- 12:23Speaker 2: big family.
- 12:26Speaker 3: It really is a big family. We are Family has
- 12:29Speaker 3: been the hashtag over the years that that we love
- 12:34Speaker 3: and love to use and in some of our communications
- 12:37Speaker 3: when we are doing things to support the cause like
- 12:41Speaker 3: football squares and and and other aspects. But yeah, it
- 12:46Speaker 3: really has a community feel about the tournament.
- 12:50Speaker 2: From Conquered New Hampshire. Both of you, Angie, tell me
- 12:55Speaker 2: about your story. When did you how did you guys
- 13:02Speaker 2: find out about this, How did you get involved on
- 13:06Speaker 2: that first year? And when was that?
- 13:08Speaker 4: So back in twenty thirteen, friends of ours that had
- 13:14Speaker 4: a team called us and said, hey, we're sure to
- 13:17Speaker 4: a couple of girls and guys, can you come up
- 13:19Speaker 4: and play and fill in for us? So we came
- 13:24Speaker 4: up that first year and we got to know, We
- 13:28Speaker 4: stayed afterwards, helped pick up picnic tables and stuff, got
- 13:31Speaker 4: to know all the volunteers, met Corey and after that
- 13:38Speaker 4: we decided, you know what we're going to put our
- 13:40Speaker 4: own team in, have an extra team coming up, more
- 13:43Speaker 4: funds coming in. So since then we've been putting our
- 13:48Speaker 4: own team in.
- 13:50Speaker 2: So you go back, you go back home and to
- 13:53Speaker 2: your your telling your friends, your family, your co workers. Hey,
- 13:57Speaker 2: we were going to Vermont to play softball in the
- 14:02Speaker 2: dead of winter, and some of your friends were I'm sure,
- 14:07Speaker 2: We're like, oh, hell no.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Well a lot of them think that we're playing inside
- 14:11Speaker 4: and then we're like, no, no, no, we're playing out
- 14:13Speaker 4: in the snow.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Wow. Interesting. Yeah.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yeah, So that that first year was I think probably
- 14:21Speaker 3: the most snow that we ever saw at the tournament.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Really so more than what we have now, I think.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and especially on the little league field closest to
- 14:32Speaker 3: the woods, where the snow tends to, yeah, hang out
- 14:37Speaker 3: and not get drifted away. But so that first year
- 14:41Speaker 3: was we came because we love softball. That first year
- 14:46Speaker 3: for us, at that point, it wasn't about you know,
- 14:49Speaker 3: we heard it was a huge tournament, snow softball tournament.
- 14:52Speaker 3: So it wasn't until we got here, yeah, that we
- 14:56Speaker 3: started to understand and appreciate what we were here for.
- 15:00Speaker 3: And that is only grown over the years.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Wait to you hear the answer to this next question,
- 15:09Speaker 2: ladies and gentlemen, of how much money this one team
- 15:15Speaker 2: has raised since what was that first year for you?
- 15:19Speaker 3: Twenty thirteen, twenty thirteen, So we haven't tracked all the
- 15:25Speaker 3: way back to when we first started, but the last
- 15:31Speaker 3: five or seven years we have moved more into the
- 15:34Speaker 3: fundraising mode, looking at teams in the past like we
- 15:38Speaker 3: freeze ours, so our member looking at the registrations and
- 15:43Speaker 3: seeing them as the number one top fundraising team and
- 15:47Speaker 3: wanting to do what we can and do more to
- 15:52Speaker 3: support the cause. So over the past four years we
- 15:57Speaker 3: have raised as a team, with the support of many,
- 16:01Speaker 3: many people, over forty three thousand dollars. So something we're
- 16:07Speaker 3: something we're really proud of to be able to support
- 16:10Speaker 3: the cause in.
- 16:10Speaker 2: The last how many years? Four years, that's unbelievable. I
- 16:18Speaker 2: thought that was since twenty thirteen.
- 16:22Speaker 3: No, no, that's just in the past four years. So
- 16:27Speaker 3: we've had a number of different fundraisers that we've had
- 16:30Speaker 3: to help get us.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Back at home, back at home.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of a lot of the a lot
- 16:37Speaker 3: of the people who are supporting the Causer are from
- 16:39Speaker 3: New Hampshire, but you know, all friends that we have
- 16:42Speaker 3: from the region. You know, we we encourage to do
- 16:47Speaker 3: little small parts to help out.
- 16:50Speaker 2: We are approaching the one million dollar mark. Yeah, in
- 16:59Speaker 2: twenty five five years.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Amazing, isn't it? So something that we're very proud of.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Another important milestone that Freezing Fund for Families is working
- 17:13Speaker 3: towards is towards us sustainability of the programs. So the
- 17:21Speaker 3: three main programs that the organization is working to sustain
- 17:27Speaker 3: our the Board of Director's Award, the Connor Drewry Award,
- 17:34Speaker 3: and the snow Softball Award and tournament. So there was
- 17:42Speaker 3: a time where we would have to get to the
- 17:47Speaker 3: end of the tournament, tally everything up, figure out what
- 17:51Speaker 3: was raised, and then be able to present the checks
- 17:54Speaker 3: to the families. But we're really happy to be at
- 17:59Speaker 3: a place where now we're able to provide those checks
- 18:03Speaker 3: to the families before Christmas, so not just before the tournament,
- 18:09Speaker 3: before Christmas too, So that is really great to be
- 18:14Speaker 3: able to do. And so what we're working on is
- 18:19Speaker 3: trying to be able to be again sustainable so that
- 18:22Speaker 3: if we don't raise another dime, yes, we can still
- 18:28Speaker 3: fund the programs that we have right now. So right
- 18:31Speaker 3: now we're at about two hundred and seven thousand dollars
- 18:36Speaker 3: out of that goal two thousand and seven out.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Of twenty five and seventy five.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yes, thank you.
- 18:44Speaker 2: That is so remarkable. And you know, Wendel and Corey
- 18:49Speaker 2: are always pushing the message of how these families, with
- 19:00Speaker 2: these kids who are are fighting cancer, how these families
- 19:06Speaker 2: can use that money. They can do anything with that
- 19:11Speaker 2: money that brings them joy, alleviate stress, either logistical stuff
- 19:19Speaker 2: or just frankly a vacation somewhere warm to to live
- 19:24Speaker 2: life and be happy.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yeah, no, no strings attached with the with the money.
- 19:30Speaker 2: I love that.
- 19:30Speaker 3: So, yeah, the families have an opportunity to choose what,
- 19:39Speaker 3: you know, what they would like to do, whether it's
- 19:40Speaker 3: a trip to Disney.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Or Europe or anywhere.
- 19:44Speaker 3: And and we've talked to at least one family and
- 19:49Speaker 3: it you know, a lot of times, you know, unfortunately,
- 19:54Speaker 3: to help care for the child, you know, one family
- 19:57Speaker 3: member has to you know, stop working and then you know,
- 20:02Speaker 3: so help puts more of a financial burden on the family. So,
- 20:06Speaker 3: you know, there's been families in the past we're getting
- 20:08Speaker 3: a better, more reliable vehicle, you know, has been something
- 20:12Speaker 3: that was important for getting them back and forth to
- 20:15Speaker 3: treatment exactly.
- 20:17Speaker 2: So the the Connor Drury Award, can either one of
- 20:23Speaker 2: you tell me a little bit about that. That's that's
- 20:25Speaker 2: kind of geared towards new diagnosis exactly well.
- 20:30Speaker 4: And Corey was just telling us that they actually just
- 20:34Speaker 4: awarded some money out of that yesterday. So that's that's
- 20:40Speaker 4: kind of a program that helps all year rather than
- 20:43Speaker 4: just at the time of the softball.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Tournament and especially during that during that early diagnosis to
- 20:51Speaker 3: be able to give them some some quick and immediate support.
- 20:54Speaker 2: And the Board of Directors award yep.
- 20:58Speaker 4: And so so we're pretty that's a pretty new award
- 21:03Speaker 4: that's given out.
- 21:05Speaker 3: And so that's a twenty five hundred dollars award for
- 21:09Speaker 3: each year.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Just quit right right there.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Bang, you got it.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Wow.
- 21:15Speaker 3: And so so for the one of the great things
- 21:18Speaker 3: too that we have been able to do is uh
- 21:23Speaker 3: me and Angie have have never experienced this part personally,
- 21:29Speaker 3: but in in past years, you know, there's a number
- 21:35Speaker 3: of different nominees, but there hasn't always been an opportunity
- 21:41Speaker 3: to award each family each nominee. But in these past
- 21:47Speaker 3: couple of years we have been able to support each family. Yeah,
- 21:52Speaker 3: that has been nominated. So that's that's a great thing.
- 21:57Speaker 3: And we actually had an opportunity to to make one
- 22:00Speaker 3: of those calls this year.
- 22:04Speaker 2: It's not something can you tell us anything about that?
- 22:09Speaker 4: Yeah, So we got to talk to the mom of
- 22:13Speaker 4: Levi and they were just very very grateful and very
- 22:21Speaker 4: humbled by being chosen. So it was good to be
- 22:26Speaker 4: on that end of it and be able to talk
- 22:28Speaker 4: to them, and you know, just it makes the impact
- 22:34Speaker 4: of this tournament even more. I mean, and it's something
- 22:37Speaker 4: that's been close to us for thirteen years.
- 22:41Speaker 2: So leave high is this little seven year old from
- 22:48Speaker 2: Colchester and his mom an amazing lady, amazing lady.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it's and it breaks breaks my heart to think
- 23:02Speaker 3: about what these great people go through. And as Angie said,
- 23:07Speaker 3: we're just you know, really really thankful to two have this,
- 23:13Speaker 3: have this award, have this benefit to their family and
- 23:17Speaker 3: you know, help alleviate some some stress.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Levi is a uh and we've got this. This story
- 23:26Speaker 2: of Levi Is is posted up on the Freezing Fund
- 23:29Speaker 2: for Family's page. But Levi is a seven year old
- 23:36Speaker 2: stroke survivor who is fighting a brain tumor and is
- 23:42Speaker 2: about two years past diagnoses and is trying to build
- 23:51Speaker 2: up some some skills and some stamina. And I can't
- 23:56Speaker 2: imagine two years old and what spirit in this kid?
- 24:07Speaker 2: What spirit?
- 24:09Speaker 3: It really seems to be a common theme when we
- 24:15Speaker 3: hear the stories about these families and these children, you know,
- 24:21Speaker 3: just very very brave, you know, getting getting great support
- 24:28Speaker 3: from their families and their siblings.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Yeah, oftentimes it seems these these kids are so much
- 24:38Speaker 2: stronger than us adults in their attitudes.
- 24:43Speaker 3: It's inspiring, isn't it.
- 24:45Speaker 2: They they teach us as adults how to be strong
- 24:50Speaker 2: and stay tough. I mean, it's really remarkable, it really is.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Why do you guys so so twenty thirty team was
- 25:01Speaker 2: your first year doing this. Here we are twenty twenty
- 25:06Speaker 2: five and you guys are still in the game. Have
- 25:08Speaker 2: you missed a year?
- 25:10Speaker 3: We have not. We have not missed a year at all. No,
- 25:14Speaker 3: we've been here every year since then.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Any family roots or ties to Vermont that are you.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Know, none actually for I think for either of us.
- 25:29Speaker 3: But you know it's next door neighbors, right or from
- 25:34Speaker 3: New Hampshire, so we so for us, that's not you know,
- 25:40Speaker 3: it doesn't matter. It's about it's about the cause and
- 25:43Speaker 3: about what these you know, families are going through.
- 25:48Speaker 2: What made you? What made you? How did you discover
- 25:54Speaker 2: it in that first year Again in twenty thirteen.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Yeah, we ended up being invited by some friends of
- 26:00Speaker 3: ours who needed a couple more ball players to be
- 26:02Speaker 3: able to play all right, And so for us, yeah,
- 26:06Speaker 3: as I mentioned it, it wasn't yet about the cause.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Yeah, there's got to be something in both of you
- 26:18Speaker 2: where you said after that first year, we got to
- 26:24Speaker 2: come back and do this again.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yeah, And we reached out to a bunch of our friends.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Mark was playing men's league, I was playing women's league,
- 26:35Speaker 4: and so we pulled some girls and guys from both
- 26:39Speaker 4: leagues to come up and hang out in the snow.
- 26:43Speaker 4: And actually one of the girls the first year that
- 26:46Speaker 4: we played it was like I think we played at
- 26:49Speaker 4: like seven in the morning and it was like.
- 26:51Speaker 5: Negative ten degrees and I didn't know if.
- 26:54Speaker 4: They were coming back for the game too, Like it
- 26:59Speaker 4: was just it's it's crazy.
- 27:02Speaker 3: And those same girls who we didn't know if they
- 27:04Speaker 3: were coming back the next year, I think they It
- 27:09Speaker 3: was almost similar to our experience where the first year
- 27:12Speaker 3: they came to play ball and then the second year
- 27:15Speaker 3: they they got it right they were hooked. So it's
- 27:20Speaker 3: cool to see others being inspired by the cause as.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Well, and I'm not sure how many. By the way,
- 27:29Speaker 2: you can the link is up to register your team.
- 27:35Speaker 2: That is officially up if you get on Freezing Fun
- 27:37Speaker 2: for Families Facebook page. Everything is right there and the
- 27:41Speaker 2: website dot org Freezing Fundfofamilies dot org. You can register
- 27:46Speaker 2: your team, but you can also make a donation. No
- 27:51Speaker 2: matter where you live, no matter whether you maybe live
- 27:55Speaker 2: right here in Barry but playing softball in the snow
- 28:00Speaker 2: is not your thing, but you want to get involved
- 28:02Speaker 2: in help out, you can. All the links are are
- 28:05Speaker 2: right up there to do everything. Do you know if
- 28:08Speaker 2: if you know I haven't had a chance to ask
- 28:11Speaker 2: Corey or Wendell this, if if more volunteers are needed,
- 28:19Speaker 2: if there's if there's extra services that we're hoping. I know,
- 28:24Speaker 2: there's warming tents, there's incredible food, there's a swag that
- 28:29Speaker 2: you can buy. Is there? Do we need anything else?
- 28:33Speaker 2: Do we know?
- 28:35Speaker 3: Wendell has done a great job with making sure that
- 28:40Speaker 3: we have the necessary supplies and equipment to be able
- 28:45Speaker 3: to run the tournament this year. So Wendell's been involved
- 28:51Speaker 3: in the snowsoftball tournament for many years, so he's well
- 28:53Speaker 3: versed on you know, what is what is needed and
- 28:57Speaker 3: has been very organized about getting that in order this year.
- 29:02Speaker 3: We're always looking for more folks who who may be
- 29:07Speaker 3: interested in volunteering. Okay, so if folks are interested in volunteering,
- 29:11Speaker 3: Wendell would be a great person to be able to
- 29:14Speaker 3: connect with. Sure, And that's so that's Wendell Morrisey.
- 29:19Speaker 2: We're gonna I'll post up his his email here. But
- 29:25Speaker 2: there's a committee that you guys are are part of
- 29:28Speaker 2: that you have have joined. But there's so much work
- 29:31Speaker 2: that needs to be done before the tournament and after
- 29:34Speaker 2: the tournament too, So get get in touch with Wendall
- 29:39Speaker 2: and we'll post up his his email. Maybe Chris Catret,
- 29:42Speaker 2: who's watching and listening right now, can can drop that
- 29:44Speaker 2: for me. But and and there's another guy who's what
- 29:48Speaker 2: an animal right.
- 29:49Speaker 3: There, Chris. Chris has done an enormous amount for for
- 29:55Speaker 3: the cause over the year, has done a lot of
- 29:58Speaker 3: great work, but a great spoke men for the cause.
- 30:02Speaker 3: So appreciate you, Chris. Thanks for listening. Yeah, and thanks
- 30:05Speaker 3: to Chris for supporting some of our football squares as
- 30:10Speaker 3: part of our fundraisers as well, talk.
- 30:12Speaker 2: About other parts of this. It's turned into you talk
- 30:17Speaker 2: about sustainability. This is something that is so massive now
- 30:21Speaker 2: that we've got a golf tournament that takes takes place
- 30:27Speaker 2: during other parts of the year when it's not so cold.
- 30:29Speaker 2: And Mark and Rubin but what a what a great
- 30:34Speaker 2: team there, Ruben Bennett, what a great guy.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Yeah, we've had a chance to meet Mark and Rubin
- 30:41Speaker 3: a little bit through the snow soft or through the
- 30:45Speaker 3: Board of directors. Yeah, and committee, so so me and Angie, Yeah,
- 30:51Speaker 3: not golfers and that's the that's one of the great things.
- 30:54Speaker 3: It's some people, you know, playing snow softball is completely crazy. Yeah,
- 31:00Speaker 3: you know, we're not golfers. So it's great that there's
- 31:03Speaker 3: different opportunities for folks to be able to to get
- 31:08Speaker 3: involved and participate. And like you said, JD, very easy
- 31:12Speaker 3: to be able to donate to Freezing Fund for Families,
- 31:14Speaker 3: So either through Freezingfrontfofamilies dot org or you can link
- 31:20Speaker 3: directly from from their Facebook page as well.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Yeah. So the goal this year is is what now
- 31:29Speaker 2: for for money two seventy five.
- 31:33Speaker 3: That would be a that would be a great goal
- 31:35Speaker 3: to be able to achieve and get towards that sustainability.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Amazing. Talk about some of these teams. Uh, there's some
- 31:45Speaker 2: great other teams that you guys share some fantastic camaraderie
- 31:51Speaker 2: between you all.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a number of teams who have been coming
- 31:56Speaker 3: for longer than we have. You know, some players and
- 32:00Speaker 3: teams that I think have been coming, you know, right
- 32:02Speaker 3: from the.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Start, Catamount Solar six oh three, Spank Puppy, We Freeze Hours,
- 32:08Speaker 2: which has been they've been doing it for a long time,
- 32:12Speaker 2: Jersey Swaps, and the list goes on.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Yeah, so the so we Freeze our So that was
- 32:23Speaker 3: a team that Chris played with for a number of
- 32:25Speaker 3: years and now Corey's boys are helping to head up
- 32:31Speaker 3: that team. So really cool seeing the next generation, yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 3: get inspired and get involved. So that's something I'd really
- 32:42Speaker 3: like to see more of too. You know, I'm over
- 32:47Speaker 3: a decade older than than when I first came to
- 32:49Speaker 3: the tournament. So we're still playing, but you know, won't
- 32:53Speaker 3: be able to play forever. So it's nice to see
- 32:56Speaker 3: the young blood and how they've really adopted the cause.
- 33:02Speaker 3: I think they had about twenty twenty young kids on
- 33:06Speaker 3: their team from the sidelines, so it was really really
- 33:08Speaker 3: cool to see and other teams. We saw our first
- 33:13Speaker 3: proposal and engagement last year at Freezing Fund for Families
- 33:17Speaker 3: with the Really Yeah, with two members of the Catamount
- 33:20Speaker 3: Soul their team. So we were we were hanging out
- 33:23Speaker 3: a bit after the tournament and you know, heard a
- 33:27Speaker 3: bit of cheering and excitement and to learn it was
- 33:31Speaker 3: it was the first Freezing Fund for Families engagement at
- 33:33Speaker 3: least that I'm aware of.
- 33:34Speaker 2: So and to think that this has made the Guinness
- 33:39Speaker 2: Book of World Records as the largest winter softball tournament
- 33:45Speaker 2: on the planet. Who the hell else is doing that
- 33:49Speaker 2: other than all of these crazies up here in the North.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Country Special Breed, I guess yes very much.
- 33:55Speaker 2: So have you guys ever, And by the way, this
- 33:59Speaker 2: is coming up Friday, February twenty eighth through Sunday, March second,
- 34:06Speaker 2: so last weekend of the month. Have you guys ever
- 34:08Speaker 2: woken up on the morning of your playtime and it's
- 34:15Speaker 2: a day like yesterday, wind's whipping, snow is coming down,
- 34:26Speaker 2: it's freezing, it's maybe it's raining. Where you've just been like,
- 34:33Speaker 2: oh my god, I don't know if I can do
- 34:36Speaker 2: it this year? Really do we have to do this?
- 34:40Speaker 2: Have you ever felt like that little hesitation?
- 34:45Speaker 3: Not in past years? You know, yesterday, if we had
- 34:49Speaker 3: to play yesterday, it would have been nasty, all right.
- 34:51Speaker 3: We took a quick trip up to the field and
- 34:55Speaker 3: I was out of the car for probably fifteen seconds.
- 35:00Speaker 3: If we hadn't been out there for hours and hours, Yeah,
- 35:03Speaker 3: yesterday would have been a tough day for sure. But
- 35:05Speaker 3: you know, you can't pick the weather. You take it
- 35:08Speaker 3: as it comes. We're here to play in the snow,
- 35:10Speaker 3: and we're here for the families.
- 35:12Speaker 2: And you know very well, both of you, that the
- 35:16Speaker 2: winds get whipping up there at the verytown recreation fields. Yeah,
- 35:21Speaker 2: there is no fooling around up there in the hill.
- 35:26Speaker 2: So what do you wear? What's your You must have
- 35:29Speaker 2: a strategy now where you're how many layers are we
- 35:33Speaker 2: We're talking fifteen twenty layers. I long underwear.
- 35:37Speaker 3: I'm a hiker now and a winter hiker, so that
- 35:41Speaker 3: has helped my gear and my layering experience, so that
- 35:50Speaker 3: generally stay pretty warm. And there's you know, there's a
- 35:54Speaker 3: warming tense and you know, some opportunitists to get out
- 35:59Speaker 3: of the colts the.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Fire hanging out by the fire, you meet so many
- 36:03Speaker 4: new people like that you never would have met.
- 36:05Speaker 5: But it's it's a great place to just come together.
- 36:10Speaker 2: And when does Conquered Orthopedics take the field this year?
- 36:18Speaker 3: Not sure yet, schedule hasn't hasn't been released yet, but
- 36:22Speaker 3: either Saturday, either Friday night or or Saturday morning.
- 36:26Speaker 5: We like Friday night better than Saturday morning.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Eat you like at night time?
- 36:30Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's good.
- 36:32Speaker 2: What do you do when someone knocks a pop fly
- 36:37Speaker 2: and here it comes, You miss it and maybe you've
- 36:42Speaker 2: missed it by a little bit, and it's it's caught.
- 36:47Speaker 2: It's it has just fallen into two feet of powder.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Yeah, and the fun part about it is having everybody
- 36:57Speaker 4: from your team run out to that spot and start
- 37:00Speaker 4: digging because nobody knows where.
- 37:02Speaker 5: That ball is.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Meanwhile, the batter is rounding the basis, round the bases,
- 37:09Speaker 2: maybe slipping and falling on his ass. You've seen that
- 37:14Speaker 2: a few times.
- 37:16Speaker 3: And sometimes actually you get that top crust of snow
- 37:20Speaker 3: with the with the powder underneath. And if you don't
- 37:24Speaker 3: see where that ball goes in and be able to
- 37:27Speaker 3: get it quickly, the more and more you start searching,
- 37:31Speaker 3: the harder it is.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:33Speaker 3: But then there's also times where the ball goes in
- 37:35Speaker 3: the snow, and I've seen I've seen people pretend like
- 37:39Speaker 3: they don't know where the ball is to try to
- 37:42Speaker 3: get the runner to go and then grab it and
- 37:46Speaker 3: try to get him. So there's a little bit of
- 37:48Speaker 3: gameplay in there. I probably shouldn't have revealed that.
- 37:50Speaker 2: No, that strategy right there. I can't remember if it
- 37:55Speaker 2: was Chris or or if it was Corey, but somebody
- 37:59Speaker 2: was like, yeah, this year we're going to do white balls.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Is it? Is it? Are they colored?
- 38:06Speaker 3: Are they they are colored?
- 38:08Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 38:08Speaker 3: And actually they made a wise move a few years
- 38:12Speaker 3: ago to they used to have a regular softball painted orange,
- 38:17Speaker 3: but they've gone to there's a flexi ball indoorable that
- 38:21Speaker 3: we play when we play some indoor softball that's more friendly.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Uh.
- 38:27Speaker 3: In the the cold conditions, we had a we had
- 38:30Speaker 3: at least one or two years where it ended up
- 38:32Speaker 3: getting really icy. When you're getting a frozen softball skipping
- 38:37Speaker 3: on ice, it can present a dangerous situation.
- 38:40Speaker 2: So have you have you played in the mud and
- 38:43Speaker 2: have you played in the rain? I'm sure that's a yes.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Oh, I mean we had one year where
- 38:49Speaker 4: there was a lot of snow at the start of
- 38:51Speaker 4: the tournament, and then Saturday it got so warm out
- 38:56Speaker 4: that there was it was just like water on the field.
- 39:00Speaker 4: Old then we were playing in like knee deep water
- 39:02Speaker 4: at this point in the snow banking was like keeping
- 39:06Speaker 4: the water in so it wasn't going anywhere, and it
- 39:10Speaker 4: was just Yeah, I mean, at least it was like warm,
- 39:14Speaker 4: so we weren't gonna die of hypothermia.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right, you gotta you gotta take
- 39:22Speaker 2: care of yourself. You gotta make sure that you're frequenting
- 39:27Speaker 2: the warming tents and caring for yourself so that you,
- 39:30Speaker 2: you know, you don't get hypothermia, which is very easy
- 39:34Speaker 2: to get.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Yeah, always a good strategy to bring a couple pairs
- 39:39Speaker 3: of boots, extra socks.
- 39:40Speaker 5: Yeah, bootwarmers, dryers.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 39:44Speaker 3: So it had become a veteran in the tournament, you
- 39:46Speaker 3: start to learn some of these tricks a bit.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Tell me about the Brantley Brooks banquet.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so that was a really cool experience and memory
- 39:57Speaker 3: for me. So there were a number of years is
- 40:00Speaker 3: where there was a banquet the week before the tournament
- 40:04Speaker 3: and me and Ange came up to that banquet probably
- 40:07Speaker 3: four or five times. And one of those times, like
- 40:12Speaker 3: the other times, I was bidding on some items and
- 40:15Speaker 3: as I was going around the table, I noticed that
- 40:21Speaker 3: the name Kyler Brooks was frequently appearing on the same
- 40:26Speaker 3: items that I was bidding on. Yeah, And at the end,
- 40:30Speaker 3: one of the items that I won was this cool
- 40:33Speaker 3: painted freezing fund for family's bat. And it turns out
- 40:39Speaker 3: that I had ended up outbidding Kyler for that, and
- 40:44Speaker 3: we were we were chatting, and I knew that Brandtly
- 40:48Speaker 3: wanted that bat, and so I was I was able
- 40:52Speaker 3: to give it to him and to see him swinging
- 40:55Speaker 3: it around and the smile on his face as something
- 41:00Speaker 3: I'll never forget, tell me. Yeah, So Brantley's a great
- 41:05Speaker 3: little kid. He was one of the former beneficiaries. I
- 41:09Speaker 3: believe it was twenty fourteen when when Brantley was the beneficiary,
- 41:16Speaker 3: and it was, you know, great to see him at
- 41:21Speaker 3: the banquet and just reminds me, honestly of the the
- 41:29Speaker 3: sad fact that you know, many of the beneficiaries you know,
- 41:35Speaker 3: are not able to to come to banquets in subsequent years.
- 41:39Speaker 3: And back to the tournament, so you know, glad that
- 41:43Speaker 3: he's he's doing okay, and it was. It was great
- 41:47Speaker 3: to meet him and his family. Yeah, great people.
- 41:52Speaker 2: A bunch of years ago there was a father and
- 41:54Speaker 2: son beneficiary team or duo if you will, that watched
- 42:03Speaker 2: you guys play. Tell us about that.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think that when I when Angie talked
- 42:11Speaker 3: about one of our teammates Amanda and and Kathleen that
- 42:15Speaker 3: our second year when it was really cold, we weren't
- 42:18Speaker 3: sure if they were going to come back. It was
- 42:20Speaker 3: I think that second year when I talked about that,
- 42:23Speaker 3: they really it really seemed like they got they got hooked.
- 42:26Speaker 3: I remember them having a conversation with uh, the father
- 42:30Speaker 3: and son just about their experience, wanting to to to
- 42:35Speaker 3: know more and learn more about you know, their their
- 42:38Speaker 3: situation and you know, share their support and empathy for
- 42:42Speaker 3: for the family.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 42:46Speaker 3: I I And that's the connection. It's already interrupted. And
- 42:49Speaker 3: that's really when you say, what why you guys come
- 42:53Speaker 3: from Hampshire? What what draws you? It's it's really you know,
- 42:59Speaker 3: there's some to You go to a pharmacy and they
- 43:02Speaker 3: ask you for a dollar for a charity that you've
- 43:06Speaker 3: never heard of, and you don't know you know what
- 43:09Speaker 3: it goes to this is not that this, you know,
- 43:14Speaker 3: is a situation where you're actually getting to meet the
- 43:19Speaker 3: families who are impacted by childhood cancer, and it really
- 43:27Speaker 3: really hits home and means more. Once you have that experience.
- 43:31Speaker 2: That's got to resonate pretty pretty deeply for both of you.
- 43:35Speaker 2: I'm sure there's been many years where you've been driving
- 43:38Speaker 2: home to conquer it at the end of this and
- 43:41Speaker 2: your heads are in, your hearts are just so full
- 43:45Speaker 2: with what you've experienced, what you've what you've seen, what
- 43:48Speaker 2: you've heard.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Yeah, we've had the opportunity to meet a lot of
- 43:58Speaker 4: the beneficiaries, not I mean all depending on their situation,
- 44:04Speaker 4: and get pictures with them. But I mean the one
- 44:07Speaker 4: thing that stands out the most to me is last
- 44:10Speaker 4: year when we played Team Marcus. Yeah, and oh the
- 44:14Speaker 4: year before and you know, last year, whose team do
- 44:18Speaker 4: we play in the first game and we used flags
- 44:21Speaker 4: to beat them and then we found oh, that was
- 44:24Speaker 4: Team Marcus. And we found out, you know, that they
- 44:28Speaker 4: were the family of this child, this beneficiary, and we
- 44:32Speaker 4: were like, oh, we shouldn't have used our flags, Like
- 44:35Speaker 4: we should have just let them beat us.
- 44:37Speaker 5: So it's just nice to I think it's just you
- 44:47Speaker 5: know that the kids.
- 44:49Speaker 4: I mean, I just I can't put the words together
- 44:53Speaker 4: for it, but it.
- 44:56Speaker 5: These families, like it just breaks your heart.
- 44:58Speaker 4: Like and you know, during COVID, they couldn't come out
- 45:02Speaker 4: because you know, they couldn't get sick. They are already sick,
- 45:06Speaker 4: you know, and you know, when it's really cold, you
- 45:10Speaker 4: can't come out and hang out. So when they are
- 45:12Speaker 4: able to come out, you know, we just really really
- 45:16Speaker 4: like to meet them and get to know them and
- 45:20Speaker 4: their families a little bit better.
- 45:23Speaker 2: What about your let's throw some some much do love
- 45:30Speaker 2: at not only your players but also your sponsors.
- 45:36Speaker 3: Yeah, so we have a number of teammates that have
- 45:40Speaker 3: been with us for a long time.
- 45:42Speaker 4: So we actually have one teammate that's been with us
- 45:47Speaker 4: and now his two children are playing with us.
- 45:52Speaker 5: So we've got his sons, you know, and.
- 45:54Speaker 4: They've they've always supported us, and now they're coming up
- 45:59Speaker 4: here and being part of this and it's just great
- 46:02Speaker 4: to see it branching out.
- 46:04Speaker 3: Yeah. So, uh, Kathleen, Amanda India, Melissa Jess, Josh Levy,
- 46:15Speaker 3: Don Levy, Mike Piznowski, Lauren Pasowski, Clint Molten, a longtime
- 46:22Speaker 3: teammate Ricky Goudreau and his sons Colton and Callen. Ah Am,
- 46:30Speaker 3: I missing anybody, Let's make sure because well while she
- 46:34Speaker 3: does that, make sure I haven't missed anybody. So we
- 46:37Speaker 3: started when we first started our own team up here
- 46:40Speaker 3: coming as Byron Septic, so they were our sponsor for
- 46:45Speaker 3: the I think probably the first four years or so.
- 46:48Speaker 3: They were also one of the owners. One of the
- 46:54Speaker 3: owners was our teammate, teammate and owner on the the
- 47:00Speaker 3: of Byron So. And then we shifted to SKR for
- 47:03Speaker 3: a year and we were sponsored following that by one
- 47:08Speaker 3: of our friends Boomer Hazen and Haysen Electric, before moving
- 47:14Speaker 3: to the sponsor that we're working with now, Conquered Orthopedics,
- 47:18Speaker 3: which is also where one of our teammates Lauren works.
- 47:22Speaker 4: And yeah, so we missed Rob lebron So shout out
- 47:25Speaker 4: to Rob who plays this entire tournament with sneakers on
- 47:29Speaker 4: shorts in shorts.
- 47:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 47:31Speaker 4: And then a couple of girls that have been with
- 47:34Speaker 4: us for a long time, Jess Mason and Lex Surely
- 47:38Speaker 4: that aren't able to come this year because of their
- 47:41Speaker 4: children being on vacation.
- 47:45Speaker 3: And another and another important sponsor is is actually my
- 47:51Speaker 3: work your employ Yeah, so I work for Santa Fe
- 47:56Speaker 3: and Santafie as a generous charitable matching donation program that
- 48:03Speaker 3: I helped I take advantage of to help support these.
- 48:06Speaker 2: Families, uh in football.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Squares football scores. Yeah, so that's one of our our
- 48:14Speaker 3: fundraisers that we do each year. So we'll pick you know,
- 48:19Speaker 3: a handful of games and and and do do football
- 48:23Speaker 3: squares for them and to help us raise money for
- 48:27Speaker 3: the cost.
- 48:29Speaker 2: And help about Michaelson's r V and Community National Bank
- 48:33Speaker 2: the tournament sponsors.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Yeah, so there's been a lot of great sponsors over
- 48:38Speaker 3: the years. So Community a National Bank has been a
- 48:43Speaker 3: frequent sponsor of a field. So if and that's when
- 48:49Speaker 3: you were talking about opportunities for for donations and sponsorships,
- 48:53Speaker 3: So companies can sponsor a field, you know, so if
- 48:59Speaker 3: you're not a player, don't have a team to join,
- 49:04Speaker 3: that's another opportunity for folks to be able to get
- 49:08Speaker 3: involved with. And there's been a number of vendors and
- 49:12Speaker 3: companies that have supported the cause over the years, from
- 49:17Speaker 3: uh from Cassella right, You've got Pike for lighting.
- 49:25Speaker 2: There's there's two companies that have been.
- 49:27Speaker 5: Huge, The National guard brings out the warmington.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Oh yeah, so yeah, and then even even companies who
- 49:37Speaker 3: who help and support by not donating you know, four
- 49:40Speaker 3: wheelers so that volunteers can get around to the different fields.
- 49:43Speaker 2: As well quickly. Yeah, wow, what are you what are
- 49:49Speaker 2: you going to be wearing this year?
- 49:51Speaker 3: We'll be wearing.
- 49:53Speaker 2: That's it.
- 49:55Speaker 4: We'll layer up underneath our sweatshirts depending on how the
- 49:58Speaker 4: weather is, and then snow pants and our boots.
- 50:02Speaker 2: And now is Rob doing the the sneakers in the
- 50:07Speaker 2: shorts thing weather depending?
- 50:10Speaker 3: No, No, Rob, Rob's Rob's hardcore.
- 50:14Speaker 5: That's w.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, it's just it's not right.
- 50:22Speaker 5: Yeah, it's Robbie. Yeah.
- 50:26Speaker 2: I mean, you know, it's good to take an ice
- 50:29Speaker 2: bath every now, and they're playing winter softball with shorts
- 50:34Speaker 2: and sneakers.
- 50:36Speaker 3: You know, it's it's not for me. He's been. We
- 50:39Speaker 3: talked about players who have been coming for a long time.
- 50:41Speaker 3: Rob has been. I don't know exactly how many years,
- 50:44Speaker 3: but I know Rob's longer than fifteen plus year is easy.
- 50:49Speaker 3: So Rob's uh serious legend, Yeah, tournament legend.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Is there anyone else that does anything like that?
- 50:59Speaker 3: You know there's a few here and there, not on
- 51:01Speaker 3: not on our team, but right you see it?
- 51:05Speaker 2: Wow, Mark and Nancy, anything else that you can think
- 51:09Speaker 2: of before we close out this morning. You guys are
- 51:14Speaker 2: just I mean, how many thousand, forty three thousand dollars
- 51:19Speaker 2: in four years just your team alone.
- 51:22Speaker 5: Yeah, we're hoping to add some more to that this year.
- 51:29Speaker 2: My goodness, you know. And we should also mention here
- 51:35Speaker 2: that we talked about Levi and his family, but there's
- 51:39Speaker 2: also Alistair, Carla, Eleanor, Elisha and Nico this year children
- 51:47Speaker 2: who are beneficiaries.
- 51:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so two very young kids two years old.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Two others were who are seven and ranging up to
- 51:57Speaker 3: the oldest at ed Niko.
- 52:00Speaker 2: So six kids six.
- 52:01Speaker 3: Yeah, so six kids this year. I think it was
- 52:03Speaker 3: five last year. So it so these these past two
- 52:09Speaker 3: or three years, we've been fortunate enough, as I alluded to,
- 52:13Speaker 3: that we haven't had to say no to any of
- 52:16Speaker 3: the nominated families. So another another great stuff for freezing
- 52:20Speaker 3: bunk for families.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Some of these families are using the money toward medical expenses,
- 52:29Speaker 2: some of them are using it for other things logistically,
- 52:33Speaker 2: like you said, Mark, reliable transportation to get to and
- 52:38Speaker 2: from medical appointments, which aren't always right here in the
- 52:42Speaker 2: Green Mountain State and in some families using their their
- 52:48Speaker 2: money to just go and enjoy life with whatever that
- 52:52Speaker 2: might look like.
- 52:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, cancer is incredibly expensive, and so it's
- 53:00Speaker 3: great that it's in no strings attached a word sure
- 53:04Speaker 3: that that the families get can go for anything to groceries,
- 53:08Speaker 3: to rent to a vehicle, to something more you know,
- 53:12Speaker 3: fun enjoyable, like like a vacation.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Yeah, anything else that we can think of before we
- 53:19Speaker 2: skip out.
- 53:21Speaker 4: So I went through I think we're oh, do we
- 53:24Speaker 4: talk about we didn't talk about the jersey swaps?
- 53:27Speaker 3: Okay?
- 53:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:28Speaker 3: So that was one cool thing that that actually Corey
- 53:32Speaker 3: had had kind of engineered two years ago that we
- 53:37Speaker 3: continued last year and we're hoping that it kind of
- 53:41Speaker 3: becomes a tradition. So he was he he came over
- 53:44Speaker 3: and was like, hey, you should swap jerseys with my
- 53:48Speaker 3: with my son, you do, let's do a jersey swap.
- 53:50Speaker 3: And so actually, no, I it was it was last
- 53:54Speaker 3: year that we did the jersey swap the son. He
- 53:56Speaker 3: was even more special in moving two years ago, I
- 54:00Speaker 3: did a jersey swamp with Marcus's mother from Team Marcus.
- 54:07Speaker 3: So to you know, have that experience and and have
- 54:12Speaker 3: a chance to chat with them. Just phenomenal, phenomenal people
- 54:15Speaker 3: who were so appreciative of the cause, you know, so
- 54:18Speaker 3: much so that they you know, put in a team
- 54:22Speaker 3: to support the cause as well.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Wow, It's almost like you have to ask yourself, you know,
- 54:31Speaker 2: like what's next for freezing fun for families other than
- 54:36Speaker 2: embarking on a one million dollar amount of money that's
- 54:45Speaker 2: been raised over twenty five years that we're approaching. But
- 54:48Speaker 2: it's like, what's next? Man, It's like, we get the
- 54:50Speaker 2: golf tournament. We've got so many incredible businesses and sponsors
- 54:55Speaker 2: and volunteers that are involved here.
- 54:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:58Speaker 3: I mean the organist I think is looking to continue
- 55:02Speaker 3: to to do more and help families in more in
- 55:07Speaker 3: different ways. So I know that there's ideas and talk
- 55:13Speaker 3: once we're able to reach that sustainability point of introducing
- 55:18Speaker 3: new programs things potentially like you know, meal vouchers or
- 55:22Speaker 3: hotel vouchers while while families are going through treatments. So
- 55:30Speaker 3: just those little things that can help.
- 55:33Speaker 2: I you know, I can't, I can't help, but but
- 55:37Speaker 2: sit here and look at you guys as just two
- 55:43Speaker 2: of so many people that make this event not only
- 55:47Speaker 2: successful every year, but something that has created its its
- 55:53Speaker 2: own momentum and has grown in twenty five years to
- 55:58Speaker 2: something that you know, I refer to it, uh at
- 56:01Speaker 2: the beginning of today's episode as a monster. I mean,
- 56:04Speaker 2: this thing is just huge. We've got the attention of
- 56:10Speaker 2: not only the Guinness Book of World's Records globally, but
- 56:17Speaker 2: also nationally. Other states are watching what we're doing here
- 56:23Speaker 2: in Vermont, and I would love to see some more
- 56:28Speaker 2: national press on on this, on this event, but other
- 56:32Speaker 2: states are you guys? This has garnered the attention of
- 56:36Speaker 2: of a lot of people beyond our borders. It's really remarkable.
- 56:41Speaker 3: It is. It's it's impressive to see the reach and
- 56:46Speaker 3: how many people are you know, know about what's going on. Sure, yeah,
- 56:51Speaker 3: we try to. We try to do our small part
- 56:53Speaker 3: by wearing our freezing fund for family's gear.
- 56:56Speaker 5: Uh everywhere we go.
- 56:58Speaker 4: Everywhere we go, We've bought shirts for every season.
- 57:04Speaker 3: So yeah, I have a freezing fund for famili's wardrobe.
- 57:08Speaker 2: Yeah, sure you do. Guys. Thank you for all you do, obviously,
- 57:14Speaker 2: but also for taking time out of your very busy lives,
- 57:20Speaker 2: your work schedules, and thanks to your employers for supporting
- 57:27Speaker 2: you both and your willingness to travel all the way
- 57:32Speaker 2: here from Concord, New Hampshire, to stay overnight last night
- 57:36Speaker 2: in some horrific weather, and to be willing to share
- 57:42Speaker 2: your story and promote this event on the microphones this morning.
- 57:46Speaker 5: It snows every time we come up here, I'm sure.
- 57:50Speaker 3: And we wanted to We wanted to thank you JD
- 57:53Speaker 3: and for the aired out podcast, you know, highlighting freezing
- 57:59Speaker 3: for and for families and the cause. Just to keep
- 58:03Speaker 3: pushing it bigger and further.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't have it any other way. Congratulations to
- 58:09Speaker 2: you both. Forty three thousand bucks just from your team
- 58:13Speaker 2: alone over the last four years, and you've been participating
- 58:19Speaker 2: in this since twenty thirteen. I can only imagine how
- 58:25Speaker 2: much money you guys have raised. I can only imagine.
- 58:28Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of a lot of great memories. There's
- 58:30Speaker 3: a lot of a lot of teams who are participating
- 58:35Speaker 3: in and raising a lot of money on their own too.
- 58:37Speaker 3: So it's not just our team, you know, we freeze
- 58:40Speaker 3: ours catamount Solar. The young they they you know, some
- 58:46Speaker 3: teams changed changed sponsors over the years, but Young Guns
- 58:49Speaker 3: they placed the red flags. Now they were the top
- 58:54Speaker 3: fundraising team four years ago, and they won the tournament
- 59:02Speaker 3: two years ago. I mean, you talk about the camaraderie.
- 59:06Speaker 3: They actually gave the trophy to us, not because we
- 59:12Speaker 3: won the tournament, because we were the top fundraising team
- 59:15Speaker 3: for that year. So that's the type of camaraderie and
- 59:18Speaker 3: respect that we have between the teams.
- 59:21Speaker 2: And I don't think you guys have the goal necessarily
- 59:25Speaker 2: we've got to be the top fundraising team. You're just
- 59:28Speaker 2: doing what you do. You're just doing what you're passionate about,
- 59:32Speaker 2: and you're doing it from a place of love.
- 59:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's definitely. It's definitely from a place of love
- 59:40Speaker 3: for sure.
- 59:41Speaker 2: Yeah. You know I have heard, and I know you
- 59:46Speaker 2: both have too, that cancer is so evil, especially pediatric cancer,
- 59:59Speaker 2: and there's you know, we've all heard there's nothing good
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: that can result from cancer. But if cancer was a
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: person that was looking at this event, I would imagine
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: cancer just shaking its head and saying, damn it, here
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: comes that that Winter co Ed Softball tournament freezing fun
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: for families again this year. It's a it's a you
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: guys are really battling something that is you're really taking
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: non cancer head first, and that's impressive as hell, all
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: of you, not just the two of you, just this
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: whole event, a.
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Lot of a lot of people over the years that
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: have really made this all happen for you know, over
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: fifty families at this point, so wow.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Thank you so much for coming in here, Thanks for
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: having us drive carefully. Hope to see you in it,
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: what another two weeks, ten days something like that. Ye,
