- 0:04Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where.
- 0:07Speaker 1: The plays get broken down, then science gets denied to.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Come off the bitch.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench Live from the Mercedes
- 0:14Speaker 1: Benz Baton Rouge Studio starts now.
- 0:37Speaker 4: All right, looking back in O TV one, O four five,
- 0:40Speaker 4: ESPN ben Rouge Hour number two gonna catch up with
- 0:42Speaker 4: I got Bobby Carpenter, Big ten, Bob the General here
- 0:46Speaker 4: in a matter of minutes.
- 0:48Speaker 3: You think you'll have this meta glasses on.
- 0:49Speaker 5: You stole it from me.
- 0:50Speaker 4: I was about to say he's gonna join us on
- 0:53Speaker 4: video and it was gonna be Where in the world
- 0:55Speaker 4: is Bobby Carpenter if we were putting betting lines on
- 0:59Speaker 4: the weight room minus three fifty.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Minus minus eleven.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Uh, yeah, I don't. I don't know where else by.
- 1:11Speaker 3: The last time he was in the Ohio State weight Room.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Bob's got a locker in there, I think, yeah, like
- 1:18Speaker 4: truly like I think he has a locker in the
- 1:21Speaker 4: weight room.
- 1:22Speaker 3: We just have a locker at ls US. When we
- 1:25Speaker 3: were playing the NFL Lockers, did we where there was
- 1:32Speaker 3: like a little wall? I mean it was a small
- 1:34Speaker 3: little cuby, but it was in the locker room. There
- 1:36Speaker 3: was a small wall, and it was for all the
- 1:37Speaker 3: NFL players.
- 1:38Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean you never worked.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Down in the off season.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I stayed in stayed the Eggo in the off season,
- 1:44Speaker 4: and because I was paying for a house there, like
- 1:47Speaker 4: you know, I forgot to stay in it.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Yeah, we'd come back here and they'd give us all
- 1:51Speaker 3: workout gear and they'd wash clothes and stuff. Should have
- 1:54Speaker 3: taken advantage of it. Can we still do it? Nope?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Well not more because we were retired last week. Until
- 2:04Speaker 3: last week, we should have rethought that is great.
- 2:06Speaker 4: You know what I didn't think about, Like since we
- 2:08Speaker 4: officially retired, now we can put in our application for
- 2:11Speaker 4: the TV show that I'm trying to create.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Don't call it a comeback.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Yeah, we were eligible for the Hall of Fame.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Sorry, what's up?
- 2:22Speaker 5: I don't know that the snicker was needed. I don't
- 2:25Speaker 5: think that the laugh.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I don't feel like we got enough headlines either from
- 2:30Speaker 3: that retirement Tiger droppings. Taylor didn't even post it, post
- 2:36Speaker 3: it on our own shows. All right, Socials, we.
- 2:38Speaker 7: Can, we can, y'all made Tiger droppings again, Like Tuesday,
- 2:45Speaker 7: this one was not as positive.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Oh someone sayeah, that's right. Someone said it when yesterday
- 2:49Speaker 3: during the show, like they got upset at us. Someone
- 2:51Speaker 3: was upset because we agreed too much.
- 2:54Speaker 6: Oh, y'all are like the car brothers.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Over there.
- 2:59Speaker 7: They agree too much, and I'm like, what do you
- 3:02Speaker 7: want them to do? Spit in each other's faces?
- 3:04Speaker 4: Like we agree too much? Okay, I can fix this. Hey,
- 3:08Speaker 4: just call Bob.
- 3:09Speaker 5: I don't really know. Okay, you can just give me.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Most of our disagreements are at break.
- 3:13Speaker 4: That's very true, So we should bring those on air,
- 3:16Speaker 4: is what you're telling me. Like we're just kind of
- 3:19Speaker 4: having a slight argument about how dumb the offenses you
- 3:22Speaker 4: played in are.
- 3:23Speaker 7: Here we go otb post t Bob. This is the
- 3:27Speaker 7: thread title.
- 3:28Speaker 3: It just sucks.
- 3:29Speaker 7: I like both Hester and Flynn, but together on radio
- 3:32Speaker 7: makes me want to go play in traffic. I think
- 3:35Speaker 7: they need to find someone who will come in and
- 3:38Speaker 7: have actual discussions and get the blood flowing instead of
- 3:40Speaker 7: agreeing on every single subject. I know they are the
- 3:43Speaker 7: mouthpiece for LSU, but some honest assessments would be nice
- 3:47Speaker 7: every so often. Maybe it's just that time of the
- 3:49Speaker 7: year and when football actually starts, it will get better.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Yeah, the mouthpiece, what are we going off of? We like,
- 3:57Speaker 4: we've had one practice in nots.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I agree, we have only had one practice.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, they had like the number one portal class
- 4:06Speaker 4: and like all these things, like a lot of positive
- 4:09Speaker 4: people have picked them to win, like the national championships.
- 4:13Speaker 5: So the mouthpiece, Okay, well I.
- 4:16Speaker 6: Don't find it necessary to give these people airtime, to
- 4:19Speaker 6: be honest, Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Based off you know, based off that one practice. We'll
- 4:22Speaker 4: argue about it later.
- 4:24Speaker 6: Look, he has a medaglasses.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 4:27Speaker 5: Oh, I don't know.
- 4:28Speaker 4: I don't know though, does he win the bet? Though
- 4:32Speaker 4: we had we had minus three thirty odds he'd be
- 4:35Speaker 4: doing it from the weight room. It looks like, let's
- 4:37Speaker 4: let's bring Bobby up. It looks like he's in the indoor.
- 4:41Speaker 4: So does that count as the weight room?
- 4:42Speaker 3: Bob? What do you think?
- 4:45Speaker 8: Well, it probably does. It constitutes. When you text me
- 4:48Speaker 8: said I want to do video or phone. It was
- 4:51Speaker 8: eight fifty six. I was finishing up my last couple
- 4:53Speaker 8: of sets there, so yes, and I'm frantically trying to
- 4:55Speaker 8: get this thing to load. So I apologize for the tardiness,
- 4:58Speaker 8: but yes, until nine o'clock. I had it scheduled Hester
- 5:02Speaker 8: where I was going to be in the weight room
- 5:03Speaker 8: from about eight five to about eight fifty eight and
- 5:07Speaker 8: then come on out here and get a better scenic
- 5:09Speaker 8: backdrop for you.
- 5:11Speaker 4: I can appreciate that, Bob. Always a pleasure in college football.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Like now everyone has started training camp, so like give
- 5:19Speaker 4: us kind of the boots on the ground. Are you
- 5:20Speaker 4: going to go out there watch the Buckeyes practice? When
- 5:23Speaker 4: did did they get started yesterday as well?
- 5:26Speaker 8: Yeah, they came in and reported for camp yesterday. Today
- 5:30Speaker 8: is the first practice, and so you guys know how
- 5:32Speaker 8: it goes. And then you come in you you know now,
- 5:34Speaker 8: I mean with the nil era and everything else. They
- 5:36Speaker 8: have some open to the public. You come out here,
- 5:39Speaker 8: you know, raise some fun, sign some autographs. They do
- 5:42Speaker 8: that for like the first three four days and then
- 5:45Speaker 8: they really get the pads crack in here. I think
- 5:46Speaker 8: Sunday or Monday. So the first couple of days obviously
- 5:49Speaker 8: just acclimation period of everything getting checked in. But this
- 5:52Speaker 8: is the first official day of practice for the buck Eyes.
- 5:55Speaker 4: See most people, Bob, like they would kind of we
- 5:57Speaker 4: talked about it. You get a little cold sweats thinging
- 6:00Speaker 4: training camp, you kind of get a little pit in
- 6:01Speaker 4: your stomach. I'm gonna assume like maybe you were the
- 6:04Speaker 4: complete opposite, because I'm sure if Ryan came over there
- 6:07Speaker 4: right now, it's like, hey, Bob, I need you for
- 6:09Speaker 4: inside run, Like you'd probably go over there.
- 6:17Speaker 5: Bob's class. There we go, We got it.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Oh no, there we go.
- 6:21Speaker 8: Yeah, sorry about that, And an audio dropped out for
- 6:23Speaker 8: just a second. But yeah, if Ryan came over, I'd
- 6:25Speaker 8: be like a blind dog in the meathouse. A problem,
- 6:27Speaker 8: miss Hester. It's like me, haven't done it for so long.
- 6:29Speaker 8: You get so excited. I have a lot of wasted movement,
- 6:32Speaker 8: wouldn't be near as efficient as I ultimately need to be.
- 6:36Speaker 8: But yeah, I'm like you man to start a camp.
- 6:38Speaker 8: You know, it's exciting for a couple of days. Then
- 6:40Speaker 8: you just get beaten down. I mean, you're to grind.
- 6:42Speaker 8: You're working. It's fun, but yeah, it's a little bit.
- 6:45Speaker 8: It's a little bit of a grind when it comes
- 6:47Speaker 8: down to it.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Uh.
- 6:49Speaker 8: And I always liked it, but there was that feeling of, hey,
- 6:51Speaker 8: you're saying goodbye to your life as you basically know it.
- 6:55Speaker 8: For about five in the NFL, maybe six months hopefully.
- 6:58Speaker 2: So. Yeah, there's a lot that goes into it. There's
- 7:01Speaker 2: no vacations.
- 7:01Speaker 8: You don't get you know, time off, you get a
- 7:03Speaker 8: buy week here or there, but it's it's a lot
- 7:06Speaker 8: of the same thing, the groundhog day over and over
- 7:07Speaker 8: against You've got to focus up and get your mind
- 7:10Speaker 8: prepared for what you've been training for all off season.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Bobby, I love your background right now, but can we like,
- 7:15Speaker 3: can you give the folks in Louisiana just like an
- 7:18Speaker 3: inside glimpse? I can you like spend the phone a
- 7:20Speaker 3: little bit, Can we see the indoor facility a little
- 7:22Speaker 3: bit more?
- 7:23Speaker 2: Well, yeah, we can take a little look. It just
- 7:25Speaker 2: kind of on me. Pulled out.
- 7:26Speaker 8: I got this little mag back here, plunter, so yeah
- 7:30Speaker 8: around there. Yeah, yeah, they just put up all these new,
- 7:33Speaker 8: this new stuff. They've got some new ones over here.
- 7:35Speaker 8: There's they light up now back there, so yeah, I'll
- 7:38Speaker 8: head over here so you can kind of see some
- 7:40Speaker 8: of the other stuff too. But they're they're hoping that
- 7:43Speaker 8: it doesn't rain. I'm heading out here. We were out
- 7:45Speaker 8: we did our local broadcast this morning from uh here there,
- 7:50Speaker 8: warming up and everything beforehand, trying to get this practice
- 7:53Speaker 8: in before the rain, But they got the.
- 7:54Speaker 2: New bench.
- 7:58Speaker 3: There. That's sexy all right.
- 8:00Speaker 8: You know, you guys know when whenever you win, you
- 8:02Speaker 8: got to go through and update all your stuff, and
- 8:04Speaker 8: so it's a great thing. But then they spend like
- 8:06Speaker 8: all summer getting new stuff up there, making sure it
- 8:08Speaker 8: looks good. You know, you've always got to keep updating
- 8:11Speaker 8: at the new next coach always wants more things. So
- 8:13Speaker 8: it was right the first titles, they kind of went
- 8:15Speaker 8: through and renovated everything and took it to that next
- 8:17Speaker 8: level for him.
- 8:18Speaker 4: So yeah, so you're telling me you and aj y'all's
- 8:20Speaker 4: pictures have come down basically, is what you're saying.
- 8:23Speaker 2: All those came down long ago.
- 8:25Speaker 8: Man, I mean they've got you guys know you allo
- 8:27Speaker 8: his first shown draft picks and everything. You know, I
- 8:29Speaker 8: said it joking around this guy in our show and
- 8:33Speaker 8: he goes, you know, they did the top They did
- 8:35Speaker 8: the top twenty five players out of Central Ohio in
- 8:38Speaker 8: the last twenty five years, and so I was number
- 8:40Speaker 8: six on that list.
- 8:41Speaker 2: And how do you feel about that?
- 8:43Speaker 8: You know, there's been some really good players that have
- 8:44Speaker 8: come out, so I felt pretty good about it. They
- 8:47Speaker 8: go what you know, because I like chat GBT or AI, like,
- 8:51Speaker 8: what are you ranking Ohio state linebackers and it's came
- 8:54Speaker 8: back sixteenth and I was like, I mean that's pretty good.
- 8:57Speaker 2: I mean there's a lot of guys in there that won.
- 8:58Speaker 8: A lot of awards. And you know, I was an
- 9:00Speaker 8: All American, but not to the degree of like even
- 9:02Speaker 8: my teammate AJ Hawks. So you know, you take what
- 9:04Speaker 8: you can get when you go to a big time program.
- 9:07Speaker 3: That's all right. My son, my son googled me like
- 9:10Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago, is like, hey, Dad, I
- 9:11Speaker 3: just heard you were like the eleventh best quarterback in
- 9:14Speaker 3: let's use history. And I was like, yeah, thanks, fun.
- 9:17Speaker 3: I appreciate the honesty over there, but yeah, you.
- 9:20Speaker 8: Can ask ask him how many the other ten of
- 9:22Speaker 8: national titles. That's the key flinter, that's right.
- 9:25Speaker 3: You can't take that away. Hey, So I'm kind of
- 9:28Speaker 3: curious to get you. I'm seeing the indoor facility and
- 9:30Speaker 3: I'm thinking it back to like my days in Green
- 9:32Speaker 3: Bay playing up north, Like we had these crazy like
- 9:35Speaker 3: heated coils under the field turf that kept the one
- 9:39Speaker 3: that where you could practice and play. Of course in
- 9:41Speaker 3: Lambeau like in the cold weather. What does Owado State
- 9:44Speaker 3: do because you play outside. What do y'all do during
- 9:46Speaker 3: practices when it's snowing and cold in the dog days
- 9:49Speaker 3: of winter.
- 9:51Speaker 8: So it's interesting end up coming the indoor here a
- 9:53Speaker 8: lot of times. And before they played Tennessee, though, Keenan Billley,
- 9:57Speaker 8: the tight ends coach, you know, on tight end's kind
- 9:59Speaker 8: of an interesting position because you get a lot of
- 10:01Speaker 8: different styles of guys there. I mean, you've got the
- 10:04Speaker 8: Jimmy Graham, who you know, if you can get him
- 10:06Speaker 8: to do a cutoff block on the back side of
- 10:08Speaker 8: his own a stretch zone like you're feeling good about that.
- 10:11Speaker 8: And then you've got your guys that are more like
- 10:13Speaker 8: our guy Ben Hartsock, who you know, are more They've
- 10:17Speaker 8: got like that that hy kind of looks like a
- 10:19Speaker 8: te sometimes and they put you out there on the
- 10:21Speaker 8: field and just like a tackle over situation. And so
- 10:24Speaker 8: Keenan Bailey's tried the tight ends coach Ohio Stage tried
- 10:27Speaker 8: to impress on everybody in the importance of blocking and
- 10:30Speaker 8: like getting tough, and so what he did before the
- 10:33Speaker 8: Tennessee game, they were doing inside drill out, their their
- 10:37Speaker 8: individual period outside all year long, and so it was
- 10:40Speaker 8: like snow on the ground twenty degrees and he goes,
- 10:43Speaker 8: I don't give a damn what the rest of.
- 10:44Speaker 2: The coaches are doing. Like we're going outside.
- 10:45Speaker 8: We're gonna do ten minutes blocking each other, man on man,
- 10:49Speaker 8: dude on dude, getting after it and like we're gonna
- 10:51Speaker 8: be tough and then we can come in and do
- 10:52Speaker 8: inside and get our work in. But it's there's an
- 10:56Speaker 8: elements where just you've got to practice in it. You
- 10:58Speaker 8: got to be smart because you want to make sure
- 10:59Speaker 8: you're getting in a fishing practice and you know it's
- 11:01Speaker 8: not a wind tunnel when guys are getting sick and
- 11:04Speaker 8: everything else, but you are going to be playing in it,
- 11:06Speaker 8: so you do have to be experienced and be ready
- 11:07Speaker 8: to handle it.
- 11:08Speaker 5: All right, Bobby, So I got to ask you.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Behind you, I see a couple of big ass fans,
- 11:13Speaker 4: that's what they're called.
- 11:14Speaker 5: Literally, do we not have ac and heating in there?
- 11:17Speaker 4: And if we don't, I know a guy in Columbus,
- 11:19Speaker 4: Ohio that can get that done.
- 11:22Speaker 2: So they do have heating in here.
- 11:24Speaker 8: They've got the old school, like heating coils up top
- 11:28Speaker 8: that we'll heat it up inside. And like for bull practice,
- 11:30Speaker 8: they trusted always crank it up super hot.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, it's not this hot.
- 11:34Speaker 8: And we're playing like in the winter in Florida or
- 11:37Speaker 8: like Arizona. We're playing indoors. Like dude, it doesn't need
- 11:40Speaker 8: to be like ninety degrees. But he mostly wanted to
- 11:42Speaker 8: get everybody like, lean back down. I think, get them
- 11:44Speaker 8: fast again, you'll get them rolling after the cold winter.
- 11:47Speaker 2: But yet there is no ac in here.
- 11:49Speaker 5: I mean, put in a bid, Bob, get that contract.
- 11:53Speaker 8: So they put those mere man, it was brutal. Trust
- 11:55Speaker 8: would bring us in because I'm getting out of the sun.
- 11:57Speaker 8: How you do it like a hot air balloon, There's
- 11:59Speaker 8: no you would just be sweat pouring off yourself. It'd
- 12:03Speaker 8: be terrible. So if they've got the big ass fans
- 12:06Speaker 8: they put in here, there's like eight of them, and
- 12:08Speaker 8: it feels pretty good. And so the thing is hester
- 12:11Speaker 8: I'm running my conditioning test tomorrow after our radio show.
- 12:14Speaker 8: So we got twenty half gassers on seventeen seconds or
- 12:18Speaker 8: thirty seconds breath. I ran eighteen on Saturday. It was
- 12:21Speaker 8: a little difficult, but I probably tied two more in
- 12:23Speaker 8: the bag if I needed them. But I wanted to
- 12:26Speaker 8: make sure I'm running them outside where like maybe there's debreeze,
- 12:29Speaker 8: maybe there's not. Yeah, you know, I'll probably run him
- 12:31Speaker 8: like a cutoff, maybe no shirt. But you know with this,
- 12:34Speaker 8: like I've been training, like yell, little fleece on, so
- 12:36Speaker 8: make sure I can really embrace that heat because it's
- 12:38Speaker 8: been it's been pretty frothy up here the last couple
- 12:40Speaker 8: of days.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Do you just you rob Doug by yourself? You running
- 12:44Speaker 3: gassers by yourself, time and number? You have somebody that
- 12:46Speaker 3: comes out and puts the clock to you.
- 12:49Speaker 2: So I had my Apple watch it.
- 12:50Speaker 8: I'll run them with myself and I'll set all that
- 12:52Speaker 8: up normally when I train, but for this, you know,
- 12:54Speaker 8: in anytime you got the show, I get my guy
- 12:56Speaker 8: Schlegs out here, who is a teammate of mine but
- 12:58Speaker 8: also strength coach. And so strength coaches are the best timers.
- 13:02Speaker 8: They're gonna be loud, they're gonna be decisive with their
- 13:05Speaker 8: times coming in and so he's gonna come over tomorrow
- 13:07Speaker 8: and he's gonna be my guy. He's gonna he's gonna
- 13:09Speaker 8: video or not video. He's gonna time me and get
- 13:11Speaker 8: me ready to go, provide a little music and everything,
- 13:14Speaker 8: and it should be should be a good time. I'm
- 13:16Speaker 8: even we're gonna have my kids come over for practice.
- 13:19Speaker 8: So hes so, I'm gonna have my third grader and
- 13:21Speaker 8: sixth grade. They're gonna be my hype squad with some
- 13:23Speaker 8: of their friends. We're gonna show them like how to
- 13:25Speaker 8: do hard things and like to embrace the suck a
- 13:27Speaker 8: little bit.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Oh, I love it, Bob, You're the man. We appreciate
- 13:31Speaker 4: you joining us. Hopefully you and I can hop back
- 13:34Speaker 4: on Channel eighty four. I think I got you coming
- 13:36Speaker 4: up here in a couple of days, little meathead Radio.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Appreciate the time as always, sir, and we'll catch up
- 13:41Speaker 4: again soon.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Absolutely, guys, thanks for having me on.
- 13:44Speaker 4: All right, there he is the general Big ten, Bob,
- 13:47Speaker 4: Bobby Carpenter.
- 13:48Speaker 5: I mean they were about to come in the endoor
- 13:50Speaker 5: for practice.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Yeah they were.
- 13:52Speaker 5: I don't heard the whistle and the coach in the background.
- 13:54Speaker 3: I think if they were too running there, yeah, for practice.
- 13:58Speaker 3: I don't know if he would have moved. Oh, I
- 14:00Speaker 3: don't think you would have finished interview.
- 14:02Speaker 5: I don't know. I don't know that anybody.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Access to a facility anywhere in the country more than
- 14:10Speaker 4: Bob has Ohio State shot. I call the games for
- 14:16Speaker 4: l s U Like I'm on the broadcast. If I
- 14:17Speaker 4: went over there right now and had a computer walking
- 14:20Speaker 4: around in the endoor, they would be like, what get
- 14:24Speaker 4: out of here?
- 14:25Speaker 3: What are you doing?
- 14:26Speaker 4: Not Bob when I catch up with players from Ohio State,
- 14:29Speaker 4: and I was like, hey, blah blah blah, like I
- 14:31Speaker 4: do radio with Bobby Carp Like, oh, mister Bob, Like
- 14:34Speaker 4: everyone up knows mister Bob.
- 14:35Speaker 3: It's amazing. The the verbiage that he uses is so
- 14:41Speaker 3: like the exact same as AJ. They talked the exact
- 14:44Speaker 3: same little bit different energy. They're just they're just people.
- 14:51Speaker 5: To Ohio meatheads.
- 14:52Speaker 3: They are just some funny people.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Man. Uh.
- 14:56Speaker 5: I was going to like get to like the Big
- 14:58Speaker 5: ten or something like that.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I was like, so, I was way more curious when
- 15:01Speaker 3: he started talking. I was like, I want to see
- 15:03Speaker 3: the rest of it.
- 15:03Speaker 5: Yeah, me too.
- 15:03Speaker 3: I want to see the rest of that room. Yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 3: I want to see the banners. Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 4: And he like he's also telling the truth, like every
- 15:08Speaker 4: year he does the conditioning test, like whatever Ohio State's
- 15:12Speaker 4: conditioning test is, like, because they probably did it, probably
- 15:16Speaker 4: doing it right now or maybe yesterday when they reported,
- 15:18Speaker 4: he all like whatever they do, like he gets the
- 15:22Speaker 4: information and replicates it.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Like when we were at LSU, we would we would
- 15:27Speaker 3: do the conditioning test before we got our week off,
- 15:30Speaker 3: didn't we.
- 15:30Speaker 5: I think so it was like it was like it
- 15:32Speaker 5: was the finisher. Yeah, I think I think they do it.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Think that's probably the way to kill yourself before practice starts.
- 15:40Speaker 5: I know we in San Diego we did the report day.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I was on one team that had a conditioning test. Yeah,
- 15:46Speaker 3: on all my teams.
- 15:47Speaker 4: We only had it one year, and it was because
- 15:49Speaker 4: everybody was fighting for their job.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Yeah, type situation in sang.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Yeah, the Patriots had it when I was I've heard
- 15:56Speaker 3: about Theirs. Yeah. Yeah. That was the only team I
- 15:58Speaker 3: ever had a conditioning Yeah.
- 16:00Speaker 5: I mean it's super easy compared to like Tommy Moffatt's.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it was like it was something like twenty fifties
- 16:07Speaker 3: or something like that. Yeah, which I've never heard of
- 16:11Speaker 3: twenty fifties, like somebody. It was like fifty yard Okay,
- 16:14Speaker 3: I don't know. It was weird. Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Look when you come from the school of Tommy Moffett,
- 16:18Speaker 4: no matter what you told me, I'm like, yeah, I.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Couldn't do it. I popped a hamstring getting ready for
- 16:22Speaker 3: the conditioning test and my at LSU. Sure you did, Bud,
- 16:29Speaker 3: I did? Hey, what else do you think I did it?
- 16:31Speaker 3: I just got this hammy. Just if you were scared
- 16:33Speaker 3: to run, just say it character Yep, you're right, I was.
- 16:39Speaker 3: So you had to say love Bobby though, love Bob.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Uh. We're trying to have Bob and AJ and Bob's
- 16:45Speaker 4: already agreed to it every Friday during the football season.
- 16:49Speaker 5: We're trying to have a quad box. So I've done
- 16:52Speaker 5: my part.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:59Speaker 4: No, tough pool, Okay, a tough pool. Like I reached
- 17:02Speaker 4: out to my Ohio friend. He just did an interview
- 17:06Speaker 4: from the indoor while they're practicing at Ohio State for
- 17:09Speaker 4: the national champion and then you pull your weight.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Well it's AJ. I don't know. It's just a different
- 17:16Speaker 3: level of stardom. You know, you've only.
- 17:18Speaker 7: Reached out one time to AJ and he came on
- 17:21Speaker 7: one for one.
- 17:22Speaker 3: You're bat in a thousand month, that's true.
- 17:23Speaker 5: You can get him.
- 17:24Speaker 8: Uh.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I probably need to see because a lot of
- 17:26Speaker 3: times they do. He travels with on Fridays with I
- 17:29Speaker 3: don't know what they're it seems like they should change. Well,
- 17:32Speaker 3: we're gonna ask him. Don't worry, I'll tell him. I'll
- 17:35Speaker 3: just tell him he's gonna do it.
- 17:36Speaker 6: You're putting out the narrative that he's pretentious.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Yeah you are.
- 17:40Speaker 5: I'm a little bit of his meat head stack.
- 17:43Speaker 3: I'm setting it up to where I'm making it sound
- 17:45Speaker 3: really hard and then so y'all celebrate. Okay, that's what
- 17:47Speaker 3: I get it.
- 17:48Speaker 6: It's like, what were we talking about yesterday? It was
- 17:49Speaker 6: Saints camp, like you expect absolutely nothing because they're bringing
- 17:54Speaker 6: thirty second. Their rosters ranked thirty second in the NFL.
- 17:57Speaker 6: So you went yesterday and what did were you?
- 17:59Speaker 5: You were like better than that? Yeah, yeah, I think
- 18:01Speaker 5: it's better than that.
- 18:03Speaker 6: I think saw the starters.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean.
- 18:10Speaker 5: Thirty second. That was that was about thirty second.
- 18:12Speaker 6: I mean that wasn't really the point of what I
- 18:13Speaker 6: was saying.
- 18:14Speaker 5: But yeah, I know, I know you're saying.
- 18:16Speaker 4: I know what you're saying with squirrels basically, just get
- 18:20Speaker 4: AJ like stop, like we're trying to create this deal
- 18:24Speaker 4: like this segment.
- 18:25Speaker 5: I don't know, and they get Tony Romo, they get AJ.
- 18:31Speaker 2: All right.
- 18:31Speaker 4: I do want to when we come back, though, I
- 18:33Speaker 4: do want to talk to Saints quarterback who right now
- 18:36Speaker 4: I think is the leader in the clubhouse for that position.
- 18:39Speaker 4: And again I caught up with Keller Moore yesterday. We'll
- 18:41Speaker 4: play that at nine coming up. We still got JD. Pickel,
- 18:45Speaker 4: We've got chef Michael Johnson. A lot coming your way
- 18:47Speaker 4: on o TV.

- 19:54Speaker 1: From Players to Legends, Hester and Flynn breakdown LSU football
- 19:58Speaker 1: like only champions can you got all right?
- 20:23Speaker 4: Welcome back again o TV one of four five ESPN
- 20:25Speaker 4: Baton Rouge. I was boots on the ground yesterday at
- 20:28Speaker 4: New Orleans Saints training camp and although Jay Caner got
- 20:31Speaker 4: the reps like he was technically QB one, yesterday's practice
- 20:35Speaker 4: had a chance to see all three of the quarterbacks,
- 20:38Speaker 4: all four of the quarterbacks technically, but the three that
- 20:40Speaker 4: are in the battle to be the starting quarterback. Each
- 20:44Speaker 4: of them made their plays. Sure, each of them made
- 20:46Speaker 4: their mistakes, obviously, But if I'm just going off of
- 20:51Speaker 4: vibes of who I think looks the most comfortable and
- 20:56Speaker 4: the most ready to be a starting quarterback, and it's
- 20:58Speaker 4: it's probably unfair a little bit Tyler Shuck because he
- 21:00Speaker 4: is a rookie, even though he is going to be
- 21:02Speaker 4: twenty six. We all know that that narrative, it's Spencer
- 21:05Speaker 4: Rattler and he got starts last year, which Matt, you
- 21:08Speaker 4: can speak on this better than I can. I'm sure
- 21:10Speaker 4: that helps him in the process of leading the team
- 21:13Speaker 4: and being a little bit more comfortable, a little bit
- 21:15Speaker 4: more relaxed.
- 21:15Speaker 5: But like Tyler Shuck.
- 21:18Speaker 4: Looks the part of what you used to have to
- 21:20Speaker 4: look like to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Right,
- 21:23Speaker 4: He's got the height, he's got the frame, he does
- 21:25Speaker 4: have a big arm. But when you watch Spencer Rattler
- 21:30Speaker 4: and kind of the I want to say, like he's
- 21:33Speaker 4: improving back there, but if a play's not perfect, he
- 21:37Speaker 4: handles that much better than the other two quarterbacks. The
- 21:39Speaker 4: other two quarterbacks compared to Spencer Rattler and Nigga. I
- 21:43Speaker 4: think most of this for Tyler Shuck is the fact
- 21:45Speaker 4: that he is a rookie, but they're robotic.
- 21:48Speaker 5: It's like I was coached to do this.
- 21:49Speaker 4: I was coached to do A, then B, then C
- 21:52Speaker 4: and if it doesn't work out in that order, then
- 21:55Speaker 4: I get off my marker and it's not going to
- 21:57Speaker 4: be a great play. Where I feel like Spencer Rattler
- 22:00Speaker 4: has a hey, maybe sees the best option right now,
- 22:03Speaker 4: and I'm not scared to go to see first instead
- 22:05Speaker 4: of A and B, And he just looks more fluid,
- 22:09Speaker 4: he looks more relaxed. And he made a couple of
- 22:11Speaker 4: plays yesterday that I don't know the other two right
- 22:16Speaker 4: now can make. Yeah, watched the plate. Okay, see it had.
- 22:21Speaker 5: A little swag to it.
- 22:22Speaker 4: It had a little I was telling y'all, like, he
- 22:24Speaker 4: got you know, pressure pretty pretty right away off the
- 22:28Speaker 4: right side.
- 22:28Speaker 5: And he didn't panic. He didn't like try to like
- 22:31Speaker 5: roll out of the pocket like you do in college. No,
- 22:33Speaker 5: he saw it.
- 22:34Speaker 4: He stayed calm, he stepped up, he stepped out, hit
- 22:38Speaker 4: his back foot and threw a sixty yard past to
- 22:40Speaker 4: Chris a Lobby for a touchdown. The other two don't
- 22:43Speaker 4: have that. I don't know that Jay can or will
- 22:45Speaker 4: ever have that. Tyler Shuck might have that one day.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Spencer Ratler has it right now.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's what you're seeing right now is again
- 22:54Speaker 3: it's it was practice six yesterday, so it's still early
- 22:57Speaker 3: in training camp. But what you're seeing is that difference
- 23:00Speaker 3: that that I talk about. It's that year one to
- 23:02Speaker 3: two jump. I mean, you could probably go back and
- 23:06Speaker 3: look at Spencer Rattler. A year ago, I practice number
- 23:10Speaker 3: six in training camp and probably looked a little bit
- 23:12Speaker 3: more like like like shuck is from a and what
- 23:15Speaker 3: you're kind of talking about what I hear when you're talking,
- 23:18Speaker 3: what I hear is like the the pre snap process
- 23:21Speaker 3: a little bit more robotic, like like right, that's it,
- 23:25Speaker 3: and then then line up and you gotta you know,
- 23:28Speaker 3: and then you know, maybe with Spencer is like hey, Mike, Mike,
- 23:31Speaker 3: Mike right, Mike right, and then hey, be alert, be alert,
- 23:37Speaker 3: Like it's just more like taking the snap count and
- 23:40Speaker 3: he's not looking at the center like when you're when
- 23:42Speaker 3: you're kind of and I'm not going to say robotic,
- 23:44Speaker 3: but when you're learning the NFL game, you look robotic.
- 23:47Speaker 4: You're just so nervous and you want to get everything
- 23:50Speaker 4: exactly right, and you are robotic.
- 23:52Speaker 5: It's okay, Like we all have been through.
- 23:53Speaker 3: And you can see you can see a different and
- 23:55Speaker 3: like the subtleties that a guy like you can watch
- 23:59Speaker 3: when you go to practice, whether somebody that hasn't been
- 24:01Speaker 3: in the fire like that is you can see those
- 24:05Speaker 3: interactions to see who's actually more comfortable within the offense.
- 24:09Speaker 3: And it's not just the clips of when the ball
- 24:12Speaker 3: comes out of their hand in lands and receiver's arms
- 24:14Speaker 3: like those tell you a lot, but a lot of
- 24:17Speaker 3: the other stuff paint the picture about comfortability, how guys
- 24:21Speaker 3: respond to them, and just what that year one to
- 24:25Speaker 3: two jump for a quarterback is such a huge difference maker.
- 24:30Speaker 3: He can make or break your career right because you
- 24:33Speaker 3: can make such a big jump. And it's all about
- 24:35Speaker 3: that comfortability once you actually settle in to the NFL,
- 24:40Speaker 3: the speed of it, the knowing that there is chaos
- 24:45Speaker 3: happening all around you, but knowing that there's answers to
- 24:49Speaker 3: all the chaos that can be presented, all the problems
- 24:52Speaker 3: that can be presented to you. There is an answer
- 24:54Speaker 3: to it. You just have to have your wits about you.
- 24:58Speaker 3: You got to be able to visualize see everything. You
- 25:00Speaker 3: can't be just be locked into the center has the ball.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I gotta get the snap from him. I got to
- 25:05Speaker 3: say the right snap count. I have to tell them
- 25:07Speaker 3: which mike to go to. I have to read one, two,
- 25:09Speaker 3: and three. When when you're not just worried about executing
- 25:14Speaker 3: the play like strong on the playbook, all the other
- 25:16Speaker 3: things cerebral things that go around it and I think
- 25:19Speaker 3: that's what you're saying. Now, Shuck will get there, and
- 25:23Speaker 3: I know, I guess I have to condition myself to
- 25:26Speaker 3: talk about hater too, because Moore has told us what
- 25:29Speaker 3: his actions that he was in the But Shuck will
- 25:31Speaker 3: get to that point. He will. I mean, it doesn't
- 25:34Speaker 3: matter that he's twenty six, he's a rookie, it doesn't matter,
- 25:37Speaker 3: Like you have to that that experience a rattler's kind
- 25:40Speaker 3: of feeling right now and that comfort level he's allowed
- 25:43Speaker 3: to play in right now is because of experience. Yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 3: and it's not always like I got that experience. My
- 25:50Speaker 3: my year one to two jump was night and day
- 25:53Speaker 3: and I didn't play. It was just comfort, like my
- 25:56Speaker 3: comfortability and being in the NFL, being in an offense,
- 25:59Speaker 3: understand in the offense and knowing, like dude, this protections
- 26:04Speaker 3: like me not getting hit is up to me, Like
- 26:08Speaker 3: I gotta move the line. I have to move. I
- 26:10Speaker 3: have to understand a blitz is coming off. I got
- 26:13Speaker 3: to know if I'm picked up or not. And if
- 26:14Speaker 3: I am picked up, that's an NFL running back in
- 26:18Speaker 3: NFL tackle that's gonna pick it up, right Like I
- 26:20Speaker 3: don't have to guess. I trust and I can I
- 26:24Speaker 3: can slide and I can move and I can hit.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Like Okay, if he comes, this route concept changes my
- 26:30Speaker 3: read changes of this guy comes. Yeah, and it just
- 26:33Speaker 3: comes naturally and it flows. So that's why we've been
- 26:36Speaker 3: kind of high on Rattler to be the starter. And
- 26:39Speaker 3: it's look, it's it was practice six, practice seven would
- 26:42Speaker 3: be to day. There's a long way to go, but
- 26:45Speaker 3: as of right now, from what you're saying, it's kind
- 26:47Speaker 3: of what we thought might be happening at this point.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's like training Cam day number six
- 26:52Speaker 4: or whatever, but I think they've actually had like ten practices.
- 26:56Speaker 5: Uh, trust me. The players like yesterday, like my coast
- 26:59Speaker 5: was like day.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Number and Cam's like, no, no, no, that's day We're talking
- 27:03Speaker 4: about the practice number.
- 27:05Speaker 5: You know, Cam's a veteran.
- 27:06Speaker 4: VET and he stopped and he's like, so, I mean
- 27:08Speaker 4: they've got a good sample size. And so for Jake
- 27:10Speaker 4: Cander to still be in the conversation, it's more than
- 27:12Speaker 4: just six days, just you know, more practices than that.
- 27:15Speaker 3: But right they're doing two days.
- 27:19Speaker 4: I mean, you know how you remember how it used
- 27:20Speaker 4: to be like where you do like the THEWS practice,
- 27:23Speaker 4: the walk through.
- 27:24Speaker 5: That ends up being a jog through that ends up
- 27:26Speaker 5: being a kind of.
- 27:27Speaker 4: A at times a little sprint violation type situation. And
- 27:33Speaker 4: there was so many you know people yesterday, and obviously
- 27:36Speaker 4: the quarterback is gonna be the most intriguing position, but
- 27:39Speaker 4: I was I was laughing because there was people taking
- 27:41Speaker 4: so many like notes when they had so they had
- 27:43Speaker 4: three managers like equipment managers that you know, they go
- 27:47Speaker 4: they put the gloves on. There's one in five yards,
- 27:49Speaker 4: there's one ten yards in the end zone, there's one
- 27:51Speaker 4: fifteen yards. Like they're running like a you know, fifteen
- 27:53Speaker 4: yard dig round the back end of the goal line there,
- 27:57Speaker 4: and like so many people like taking notes on like
- 27:58Speaker 4: on every single throw. I'm like, guys, this isn't where
- 28:01Speaker 4: the job is going to be won. Like this job
- 28:03Speaker 4: is not going to be one with these three guys
- 28:05Speaker 4: going to these three managers, like you know, this is
- 28:09Speaker 4: just Scott running a drill. Like for me, like the
- 28:13Speaker 4: biggest moment for me, it wasn't that. It wasn't even
- 28:16Speaker 4: it wasn't even the Rattler pass. And I know we
- 28:19Speaker 4: got to go we had JD, but it wasn't the
- 28:20Speaker 4: Rattler pass to a lobby for six yards.
- 28:23Speaker 5: That was a great play.
- 28:25Speaker 4: One of the things to me is like, okay, this
- 28:26Speaker 4: this thing's becoming a little bit more narrow as far
- 28:29Speaker 4: as the competition. There's an RPO play. Spencer kind of
- 28:32Speaker 4: pulled it, made the defensive end commit to go inside.
- 28:35Speaker 4: He bounced it outside right, so he beat the first
- 28:38Speaker 4: line of defense, and then he kind of got in
- 28:39Speaker 4: a foot race with the linebacker down the sideline and
- 28:42Speaker 4: you had like six or seven offensive guys.
- 28:44Speaker 5: Like all right, rat rat that rat that.
- 28:47Speaker 4: I'm like, that's organically them telling you that they're starting
- 28:52Speaker 4: to see him as the guy when you see like
- 28:55Speaker 4: six or seven guys get excited when a guy makes
- 28:58Speaker 4: a play. So I'm not saying that the competition's over.
- 29:02Speaker 4: I think it is going to go from three to
- 29:04Speaker 4: two when they go out west. But Tyler Schreck's gonna
- 29:07Speaker 4: have to make up some room if he wants to
- 29:08Speaker 4: stay in the competition. Just based off what I saw
- 29:11Speaker 4: one practice one day, yep, Because it does feel like
- 29:13Speaker 4: Spencer is starting to have those starting qualities for that.
- 29:17Speaker 3: And it's still the first week, so it's like there's
- 29:19Speaker 3: a lot of overreaction too. But from if we're making
- 29:23Speaker 3: decision off of week one, which is not the case.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Got a lot of preseason games, a lot of pridices left,
- 29:30Speaker 3: so well you will see.
- 29:32Speaker 4: All right, we'll take a break in when we come back,
- 29:34Speaker 4: Jdpikel will join us on three Sports.
- 29:36Speaker 5: He he picked US national.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Champion yesterday and I think you're going to like his answer,
- 29:41Speaker 4: and we'll break it all down with JD when we
- 29:43Speaker 4: jump back here on O TV.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Off the bench, all.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Right, go to pelicanroof dot com. That is the website
- 29:49Speaker 4: for Pelican Roofing. And when you go to the website,
- 29:52Speaker 4: so many different things. I always encourage you to do.
- 29:54Speaker 4: Check out the five star reviews. And that is according
- 29:57Speaker 4: to Yelp and Google and Facebook and says it all

- 30:52Speaker 1: Yeah, locked in on LSU football twenty four to seven.
- 30:59Speaker 1: You're listening off the bench.
- 31:02Speaker 4: All right, Welcome back in OTV one of four five ESPN.
- 31:06Speaker 4: Ben Rouge very excited as always. Catch up with our
- 31:08Speaker 4: next guest, JD. Pakel joins us. Talk a little college football, talk,
- 31:12Speaker 4: a little LSU Tigers, and JD, I'm sorry we're late
- 31:15Speaker 4: getting to you. We had Bobby Carpenter on and he
- 31:18Speaker 4: was telling us how he was getting ready to run
- 31:20Speaker 4: the Ohio State Conditioning test because that's what mead heeads do.
- 31:24Speaker 4: But but that might not be as impressive as what
- 31:27Speaker 4: I just saw you do flat footed in a pool,
- 31:31Speaker 4: jumping up and you conquered it. Sir, You got both
- 31:34Speaker 4: feet on the ground, stood up, and you did it.
- 31:37Speaker 4: Your family can no longer be ashamed of you.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Well done, sir.
- 31:40Speaker 9: What I appreciate that one, uh to got a little
- 31:44Speaker 9: bit of a of like a rolling star there to
- 31:46Speaker 9: have to work our way up to flat foot. But uh,
- 31:49Speaker 9: I mean, hey, first of all, I will I will
- 31:51Speaker 9: back clean up Bobby Carpenter every single day of my life.
- 31:55Speaker 9: So there, I mean, whatever time y'all, y'all say hey
- 31:57Speaker 9: tomorrow two thirty am. You know, come after Bobby Carpenter's
- 32:01Speaker 9: say phenomenal, I'll be away. So glad to talk to
- 32:03Speaker 9: ball with y'all. Man football top it.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Is, man, and I think a lot of our listeners
- 32:08Speaker 4: are pretty excited to hear you talk not only college
- 32:11Speaker 4: football but LSU Tigers, and you're.
- 32:14Speaker 5: Going all in. You're going all in on LSU.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I saw you eat the Popeyes chicken sandwich, which is
- 32:19Speaker 4: you know, very Louisiana of you. I can appreciate that
- 32:21Speaker 4: as you picked LSU to go win a national championship.
- 32:25Speaker 4: So I'm going to open up the floor to you, JD, Like,
- 32:27Speaker 4: what are the things that you love about this LSU
- 32:29Speaker 4: football team as we get started here.
- 32:32Speaker 9: Yeah, I think it's one like the Popeye chicken sandwich
- 32:35Speaker 9: if I was on the fence about it really kind
- 32:37Speaker 9: of one of those things that just kind of get
- 32:39Speaker 9: you some closure. It's like, okay, and this was the
- 32:41Speaker 9: right decision. As a chick play guy my whole life,
- 32:43Speaker 9: it felt good to go Popey's there. But no, in
- 32:46Speaker 9: all seriousness, I think it's kind of the perfect storm
- 32:49Speaker 9: of what LSU has versus where college football is. Like
- 32:53Speaker 9: we've talked about this a lot. I know this was
- 32:55Speaker 9: a point that just got beat to death during media days,
- 32:58Speaker 9: but a ton of new quarterbacks in the SEC, but
- 33:00Speaker 9: in college football at places that you would expect to be,
- 33:03Speaker 9: you know, contenders for the national championship from a roster standpoint,
- 33:07Speaker 9: and so I think it's getting overlooked a little bit
- 33:10Speaker 9: how good that roster actually is at LSU because of
- 33:15Speaker 9: what last year was and maybe by comparison with what
- 33:17Speaker 9: some of the other teams in the SEC have, Like
- 33:19Speaker 9: I mean, y'all know what they did in the portal
- 33:22Speaker 9: to go at not just top end talent but also
- 33:24Speaker 9: real depth. Gives me a lot of confidence obviously in
- 33:28Speaker 9: LSU A lot of excitement at LSU. And also we
- 33:30Speaker 9: were in Atlanta and talked to about Moscona. He kind
- 33:32Speaker 9: of dropped his gym on me. Uh, the way the
- 33:34Speaker 9: schedule lines up for LSU not in the sense they
- 33:36Speaker 9: don't have tough teams on there.
- 33:38Speaker 8: But there's no.
- 33:39Speaker 9: Just really brutal two game stretch or two three game
- 33:43Speaker 9: stretch where you say, oh, that's just that's going to
- 33:45Speaker 9: do him in. You know, there's no cross your fingers.
- 33:47Speaker 9: Can we get over this crav off that is our
- 33:50Speaker 9: schedule right now in the month of November, Like, I
- 33:52Speaker 9: don't see that BREDLSU, And that was going to point
- 33:54Speaker 9: it out to me. So that was helpful for him
- 33:55Speaker 9: to kind of a corpse to bat here when we
- 33:58Speaker 9: let me pick an LSU. So yeah, all that combines
- 34:01Speaker 9: to say, I think that the last thing I want
- 34:03Speaker 9: to make sure we main't clear about. You know, the
- 34:05Speaker 9: LSU side of things is, whenever you say something definitive
- 34:09Speaker 9: about a team or a coach that hasn't gotten the mountaintop,
- 34:13Speaker 9: people are very quick to say, well, can't win the
- 34:15Speaker 9: big one. They say it about James Franklin right now,
- 34:17Speaker 9: they're saying about Brian Kelly right now it's just such
- 34:20Speaker 9: a to me, that's like a three kids, three jobs,
- 34:24Speaker 9: no caffeine, tired level of talking point. It's just like
- 34:28Speaker 9: we said that about Kirby Smart too. Did we not
- 34:29Speaker 9: send it about Jim Harrible? They last year? It's like
- 34:34Speaker 9: they can't tell they do, and then when they do,
- 34:36Speaker 9: it was never true to begin with. So that's that's
- 34:38Speaker 9: a lot there. But uh, to put it simply, I
- 34:41Speaker 9: like Alice do a lot this year.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Jad, what's up and good? It was
- 34:44Speaker 3: great to meet you at SEC media day, so so
- 34:46Speaker 3: glad to have you on. We appreciate it. So you
- 34:50Speaker 3: gave your your responsor about LSU kind of y LSU
- 34:53Speaker 3: and what was I'm going to say, refreshing because you're
- 34:56Speaker 3: talking about the other pieces of the pie when it's
- 34:59Speaker 3: on this LSU football to him. But you didn't bring
- 35:01Speaker 3: up nuss Meyer, who is kind of the the the
- 35:05Speaker 3: leader of all of this because of the quarterback position
- 35:07Speaker 3: and being a returner and being a solidified guy. So
- 35:10Speaker 3: I mean I would expect, like there's things that you
- 35:13Speaker 3: just that he did last year that you're not going
- 35:15Speaker 3: to improve on. He's making NFL type plays, but there
- 35:17Speaker 3: are things that he can improve on. So what do
- 35:21Speaker 3: you need to see from him to be able to
- 35:24Speaker 3: uh kind of fulfill this, uh this prophecy that you've
- 35:28Speaker 3: had that they're going to win the national championship. What
- 35:30Speaker 3: do you need to see from him from the from
- 35:32Speaker 3: an improvement standpoint?
- 35:34Speaker 9: Well, first of all, for everyone that is listening right
- 35:37Speaker 9: now and can't actually take in the visual of Matt
- 35:40Speaker 9: Flynn first team all that all right, So on that
- 35:42Speaker 9: OL radio row, I wasn't sure what to expect. Good,
- 35:47Speaker 9: good area size. Obviously, on the hand, they have really
- 35:49Speaker 9: good contact. So I want to make that clear.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Uh.
- 35:53Speaker 9: Second part that would answer your question, I love and
- 35:56Speaker 9: you can only speak of this as the well of
- 35:57Speaker 9: anybody Matt like the fact that he's going into his
- 36:00Speaker 9: second year here as the guy at LSU in the
- 36:03Speaker 9: same system. There were a couple of moments last year
- 36:06Speaker 9: where second half of the A and M game, the
- 36:09Speaker 9: Alabama game as a whole. I'm not in that building,
- 36:12Speaker 9: so I can't speak authoritatively to it, but you feel
- 36:14Speaker 9: a little bit like, Hey, the newness of this moment
- 36:17Speaker 9: and the weight of this moment, and all of those
- 36:19Speaker 9: things combined, all the all the unquantifiables were probably pretty
- 36:23Speaker 9: heavy for a first year starting quarterback that's waited his turn.
- 36:26Speaker 9: It's not going to be so heavy yet. Again, like,
- 36:28Speaker 9: I think it's gonna lead to more composure in those
- 36:31Speaker 9: moments where they're playing texast A and m at home
- 36:35Speaker 9: and it's got playoff stakes. So they're playing Alabama November,
- 36:37Speaker 9: it's got playoff stakes, like, it won't be that same
- 36:39Speaker 9: level of weight. So I think what excites me the
- 36:41Speaker 9: most in addition to him having more help with the
- 36:43Speaker 9: run game and him just you know, getting better at
- 36:46Speaker 9: all those things that you get better after starting a
- 36:48Speaker 9: full year in the SEC, is the composure part of it,
- 36:52Speaker 9: the mental side of it, and where when I walk
- 36:53Speaker 9: into a pseudo playoff game in the month of what
- 36:56Speaker 9: I just said in November October, that's not going to
- 36:58Speaker 9: feel as new. It's going to be more familiar and
- 37:00Speaker 9: it'll be more well equipped to handle it, which I
- 37:02Speaker 9: think is a massive differentiating factor even if he wasn't
- 37:06Speaker 9: going into uh, you know, his second year at LSU.
- 37:10Speaker 4: JD Can LSU lose the Clemson game and still be
- 37:13Speaker 4: the team you think they can be?
- 37:17Speaker 9: I think they can. I'll say I would. I am
- 37:21Speaker 9: committed to LSU right now I would say we're engaged
- 37:24Speaker 9: when it comes to the national title prediction. I don't
- 37:29Speaker 9: think I would call off the wedding for myself and
- 37:31Speaker 9: the good folks out there in in Tigertown if that's
- 37:34Speaker 9: been pin yet, but I would start to, you know,
- 37:38Speaker 9: start talking to my family, Hey, do we make the
- 37:40Speaker 9: right decision?
- 37:40Speaker 3: Hey?
- 37:40Speaker 9: Am I Am I crazy for going.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Through with this?
- 37:42Speaker 4: Hey?
- 37:43Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 37:43Speaker 9: Like, I think the biggest concern for me would be
- 37:45Speaker 9: what do they look like upfront? Because how good Clemson
- 37:49Speaker 9: is on the defensive line, we all know it's gonna
- 37:52Speaker 9: be a really good limus test to find out what
- 37:54Speaker 9: you have with the new pieces on the offensive line
- 37:56Speaker 9: for LSU, which is obviously gonna be one of the
- 37:59Speaker 9: key ingredients to win in the whole thing. One thing
- 38:02Speaker 9: I will say that maybe is getting a little bit
- 38:05Speaker 9: lost in the staus right now as we're breaking down
- 38:07Speaker 9: the new era of college football and twelve team playoffs.
- 38:10Speaker 9: I think, what it takes to win a national championship,
- 38:12Speaker 9: but what it takes to predictionle win a national championship
- 38:15Speaker 9: has gotten substantially more difficult because it used to be
- 38:19Speaker 9: regular season conference title game. Maybe you lose the conference
- 38:22Speaker 9: title game in the SEC back door your way to
- 38:24Speaker 9: a four team playoff get hot. When two games you're good.
- 38:27Speaker 9: Now it's like, hey, what did you do from September
- 38:30Speaker 9: to November in terms of evolving, Like at Ohio State,
- 38:34Speaker 9: did you play your basketball in December? Did you like
- 38:37Speaker 9: did you get the right draw from the college football
- 38:39Speaker 9: playoff run? So it's a long window way to say,
- 38:42Speaker 9: I'd be a little bit uneasy, but I think with
- 38:45Speaker 9: the allowance now teams to have to be different from
- 38:48Speaker 9: September and November and for that to matter in the
- 38:50Speaker 9: context of win a national championship, I wouldn't be totally out,
- 38:53Speaker 9: but yeah I would. I would start to hit up
- 38:56Speaker 9: the groomsman group chat and be a little fun easy.
- 39:02Speaker 3: When you went to SEC Media Days, was did you
- 39:05Speaker 3: leave SEC Media Days did anything hit you? Did anything
- 39:08Speaker 3: stick out to you that made you change an opinion
- 39:11Speaker 3: on any team or player, Anything that you thought beforehand
- 39:16Speaker 3: or whether it was an eyeball test, was seeing DJ
- 39:19Speaker 3: Lagway or anybody like that, or what a coach said.
- 39:23Speaker 3: Was there anything that you walked away after that week
- 39:26Speaker 3: that was that gave you an opinion that was different
- 39:28Speaker 3: went before you walked in.
- 39:31Speaker 9: You know, I think there's two thoughts. One is everything
- 39:34Speaker 9: that I see on YouTube when I go back and
- 39:37Speaker 9: watch John Mateer highlights or John Mateer full game condensed
- 39:40Speaker 9: Washington State highlights. I'm like, oh, that that swag that
- 39:43Speaker 9: he has, and it's a funny thing to say. I
- 39:45Speaker 9: don't know if people are still saying swag, but in
- 39:47Speaker 9: my generation, all real, like all verifiable factor, all that
- 39:54Speaker 9: very much so there, so I was like, cool, check
- 39:56Speaker 9: that box. I am that much more in on a
- 39:58Speaker 9: on a one jolmeterier. Second thing that I thought was
- 40:00Speaker 9: interesting just the way that Kaitlin de Board presented himself
- 40:04Speaker 9: and the questions that he got about Alabama thought was
- 40:06Speaker 9: really interesting. Obviously, like everyone's gonna talk about the quarterback
- 40:09Speaker 9: battle and who's gonna be the guy there. But outside
- 40:11Speaker 9: of that, there wasn't a lot of talk around Alabama's
- 40:15Speaker 9: roster after only winning nine games last year. It wasn't like, man,
- 40:18Speaker 9: you have what you need. It was tim answering questions,
- 40:21Speaker 9: saying we got to get better at all the cliche
- 40:23Speaker 9: things like the growth, the consistency, the maturity or whatever
- 40:28Speaker 9: it ends up looking, you know, being whatever word he said,
- 40:31Speaker 9: and that stuck out to me because I think that
- 40:33Speaker 9: gets missed about Alabama. I think they have the talent
- 40:36Speaker 9: to go compete for the SEC, and I think they'll
- 40:39Speaker 9: be a playoff team. It's just all those all those
- 40:42Speaker 9: other unquantifiables that they're clearly drilled in on and they
- 40:46Speaker 9: understand they have to get better at h to get
- 40:48Speaker 9: over the humps. So answer question pre act you media
- 40:53Speaker 9: days liked Alabama post me today as the lungs resident
- 40:57Speaker 9: with it, I'm like, I think they're a playoff team
- 40:59Speaker 9: and degree to why I have him at twelve.
- 41:03Speaker 5: JD.
- 41:03Speaker 4: I want to ask you maybe about one more player,
- 41:05Speaker 4: because I want to ask you about John Matier, but
- 41:07Speaker 4: you answered it there. He's got like this perfect combination
- 41:09Speaker 4: of the guy sitting to the left of me in
- 41:11Speaker 4: Baker Mayfield. I can't wait to see how it plays
- 41:13Speaker 4: out in Norman. But hey, I know, I know you
- 41:17Speaker 4: being you know where you're located doing the show every day,
- 41:19Speaker 4: where you do like you get a lot of probably
- 41:20Speaker 4: Diego Pavia like content or maybe you know, you get
- 41:24Speaker 4: stories like I've only covered like I think one of
- 41:27Speaker 4: his games that was the first time I had a
- 41:29Speaker 4: chance and he came in our serious XM room and
- 41:31Speaker 4: we had him for like fifteen minutes. He threw an
- 41:33Speaker 4: F bomb and two S words out there in the
- 41:35Speaker 4: first thirty seconds and the best way possible, Like I
- 41:38Speaker 4: was fired up, ready to go. I'm like, I will
- 41:40Speaker 4: follow you into the fire and we'll figure out how
- 41:42Speaker 4: to put it out later. Like I know, Vanderbilt's not
- 41:45Speaker 4: gonna win eleven games or whatever, but he brings an
- 41:49Speaker 4: excitement to Vanderbilt that Jay Cutler, even bad body language
- 41:52Speaker 4: Jay Cutler couldn't bring. Like nobody's brought that kind of
- 41:55Speaker 4: excitement to Vanderbilt.
- 41:56Speaker 5: And I love that guy.
- 41:58Speaker 4: I know you have to kind of appreciate what he's
- 42:01Speaker 4: done for Nashville and actually making Vanderbilt kind of cool
- 42:03Speaker 4: in the city.
- 42:05Speaker 9: He just he's so fun, isn't he. Like I'm sure
- 42:08Speaker 9: he's a good time on Broadway, but I mean just
- 42:10Speaker 9: in general talking to like, he's just a fun individual.
- 42:14Speaker 9: I'm glad you mentioned that he stopped my R table too,
- 42:17Speaker 9: and like within the first thirty seconds, a couple you know,
- 42:19Speaker 9: exploited it in there, Like I'm kind of looking at
- 42:21Speaker 9: the side, I'm like, are you where do you what's
- 42:25Speaker 9: your role?
- 42:26Speaker 5: You have to like ask.
- 42:28Speaker 9: Are you nervous? Like are yeah? Like are you supposed
- 42:31Speaker 9: to just say you were the lifeguard on duty here?
- 42:34Speaker 3: How does this work?
- 42:36Speaker 9: So that was hilarious. I'm glad you brought that up.
- 42:38Speaker 9: But I think Washington diego Papa last year and then
- 42:42Speaker 9: like you mentioned, getting to be around him a media days,
- 42:44Speaker 9: isn't he just like exactly the dose of rash, bold,
- 42:48Speaker 9: borderline arrogance that Vanderbilt has always needed, like when you're
- 42:53Speaker 9: when you're like the you know, for lack of a
- 42:55Speaker 9: better metaphor, like the whipy tail on the playground that
- 42:57Speaker 9: Vanderbilt had been for the better part of the last
- 42:59Speaker 9: few years, Like you kind of need to go throw
- 43:01Speaker 9: a punch at the bully at some point, you kind
- 43:03Speaker 9: of need to like have a little bravado to you.
- 43:05Speaker 9: And I just love so much the way he's changed
- 43:08Speaker 9: the steel around Vanderbilt football and the way that I
- 43:11Speaker 9: think Vanderbilt football used themselves, Like I think everything he
- 43:14Speaker 9: said was probably a touch a touch optimist stick around.
- 43:18Speaker 9: You know, I want to win the heis than I
- 43:20Speaker 9: want to win a national championship. I came back for that,
- 43:22Speaker 9: and I'm like, have more power to you, like let's go.
- 43:25Speaker 9: But the fact that that's even being said in the
- 43:27Speaker 9: Vanderbilt locker room, I would, I would that money that
- 43:31Speaker 9: hasn't been set out loud in the Vanderbilt lockers in
- 43:33Speaker 9: the last decade. It was the conviction of a Diego Pavias.
- 43:37Speaker 9: So the belief that I think he instilled in his teammates,
- 43:39Speaker 9: I'm I'm really excited to see how scrappy they are
- 43:42Speaker 9: again this year because there they're gonna be a fun
- 43:43Speaker 9: team to watch.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Are there is j D Bchael good enough to join us.
- 43:47Speaker 4: Check out his show The Hard Count there on on three.
- 43:49Speaker 4: That's eleven am Eastern Time Tuesdays and Thursday's JD. We
- 43:53Speaker 4: always appreciate the time and look forward to our next conversation.
- 43:56Speaker 9: Appreciate y'all man, have a great one all are.
- 43:58Speaker 5: You as well?
- 43:59Speaker 4: We'll step away close out our number two when we
- 44:02Speaker 4: come back here on OTB.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 44:07Speaker 4: Uh, pretty excited to get football one oh one kind
- 44:11Speaker 4: of started tomorrow. That is the plan on our interactive
- 44:15Speaker 4: whiteboard that we've got in our office thanks to Gulf
- 44:18Speaker 4: Coast Office Products gcopnet dot com. And this is going
- 44:24Speaker 4: to kind of change the game for us like we're
- 44:26Speaker 4: looking forward to breaking it down, but like it's not
- 44:28Speaker 4: only if you're watching film and breaking down football. Like,
- 44:30Speaker 4: there's so many businesses, so many people, Like we had
- 44:33Speaker 4: Sean and kind of showing us how to work. The
- 44:35Speaker 4: Boyd's like, yeah, we work from with this business and
- 44:37Speaker 4: that'd be like every business can benefit from working with them.
- 44:41Speaker 4: Law firms, engineering firms, schools, universities, banks, hospitals, medical services.
- 44:46Speaker 5: They are the leader in Louisiana. Gcop net dot Com.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Yeah, they are Louisiana's leading copier printer source, So your
- 44:54Speaker 3: workplace efficiency lifeline they are. They're a big cover of
- 44:58Speaker 3: they distribute printers n wide, but they are here in
- 45:01Speaker 3: Louisiana and when you call them you will get an
- 45:03Speaker 3: actual person and they will help you your local business.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Go see them. Gcop net dot Com.
- 45:13Speaker 1: From the locker room to the airwaves, it's off the
- 45:15Speaker 1: bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 45:29Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in. I know it's a short segment.
- 45:31Speaker 4: We're not even gonna apologize for it anymore. It's just
