- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, let's do it. Craignan and Lindahl Altitude Sports
- 0:02Speaker 1: Radio ninety two five. We're standing by for Jeff lake
- 0:07Speaker 1: Waldy will join us here momentarily.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Yeah, for what I mean, for what I'm just kidding,
- 0:12Speaker 2: I little Jeff, But wait, what are we doing?
- 0:16Speaker 1: He's andy? Can you imagine how much no news at
- 0:22Speaker 1: all regarding the Broncos he has to cover this afternoon.
- 0:27Speaker 1: He's just he's swarmed with a flurry of no signings
- 0:32Speaker 1: that he has got to be able to dig his
- 0:34Speaker 1: way through.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Is he the guy that's sighted? Jeff? For you just
- 0:38Speaker 2: are you gonna live in the dungeons since the Broncos
- 0:40Speaker 2: apparently aren't gonna sign anybody. You're just gonna go dungeon
- 0:43Speaker 2: bunker guy and get your dread. Hey, can we expect
- 0:46Speaker 2: the top one hundred maybe a day earlier because of all.
- 0:48Speaker 3: This, maybe even of days Jeff, it's nothing else to do.
- 0:54Speaker 3: It has, you know, kept me up to speed and
- 0:57Speaker 3: draft prep with no free agent See when they when
- 1:01Speaker 3: they sign back ninety five percent of the snaps or
- 1:05Speaker 3: whatever they've done. But they've done that, Jeff.
- 1:08Speaker 1: The JK. Dobbins signing and bringing back JK. Sean Payton
- 1:13Speaker 1: clearly likes him. He's a Sean Payton guy. What is
- 1:18Speaker 1: giving the Broncos faith or hope or reason to believe
- 1:25Speaker 1: the JK. Dobbins can stay healthy for a full seventeen
- 1:29Speaker 1: games this year?
- 1:31Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I think the deal essentially looks like, Okay,
- 1:38Speaker 3: you know we're going to keep you here and we
- 1:40Speaker 3: like you, but you know you're split and carry. I mean,
- 1:45Speaker 3: this is not the deal of the primary RB one
- 1:50Speaker 3: getting you know, seventy percent of the carries. I don't
- 1:54Speaker 3: think they envision that. I think they envision what his
- 1:58Speaker 3: season looked like up until November sixth. I think they
- 2:01Speaker 3: envisioned that the whole way through. And I will say,
- 2:05Speaker 3: if you know, their medical staff had a long look
- 2:08Speaker 3: at JK. Dobbins recovering from this foot injury, and you know,
- 2:15Speaker 3: gave the thumbs up to signing them, you know, to
- 2:18Speaker 3: a multi year deal moving forward. So they've had a
- 2:21Speaker 3: better look at them than anybody else has in the
- 2:24Speaker 3: league in terms of medical staff. Even if even if
- 2:27Speaker 3: another team gave him a physical, you know, like you
- 2:29Speaker 3: would in free agency, you wouldn't have as much information
- 2:33Speaker 3: as the Broncos do. So I think they looked at
- 2:36Speaker 3: that information and said, yeah, it's worth the expenditure compared
- 2:41Speaker 3: to what's out there. You know, they weren't going to
- 2:44Speaker 3: shop in the the top two or three getting paid
- 2:48Speaker 3: guys at running back, So they compared JK to the
- 2:51Speaker 3: rest and want to keep him around. And they you know,
- 2:55Speaker 3: Sean Payton has said many times, like you said, you know,
- 2:58Speaker 3: he didn't really know JK until he came wheeling in
- 3:01Speaker 3: here last June when they signed him during Mini camp,
- 3:05Speaker 3: the last thing of the off season program. He came here.
- 3:10Speaker 3: You know, there's one day left in mini camp and
- 3:13Speaker 3: from that point on, Sean Payton has said he likes
- 3:17Speaker 3: Jk's impact on the other running backs and in the
- 3:19Speaker 3: locker room too.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Jeff, we know the bron because are gonna trust their
- 3:22Speaker 1: medical staff first and foremost above anything else. But in general,
- 3:28Speaker 1: be it any team's philosophy? Really, what is Is there
- 3:33Speaker 1: a dividing line between a player is injury prone and
- 3:37Speaker 1: a player just has bad luck or is that simply
- 3:43Speaker 1: just what you get from the physical.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think teams split that, hair, Nate, I
- 3:47Speaker 3: don't think they they think this guy's been healthy or not.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And you know, JK certainly fights the perception and the
- 3:57Speaker 3: phrase injury prone. You want you want to watch him
- 4:01Speaker 3: divert your conversation to another avenue. Just say the words
- 4:06Speaker 3: injury prone to him and watch where it goes. You know,
- 4:09Speaker 3: he's very adamant about that. But the facts are the
- 4:13Speaker 3: facts too. I mean, teams look at it and say, okay,
- 4:15Speaker 3: you've you've played in thirteen games in one season and
- 4:19Speaker 3: it was your rookie year. You know, so that's those
- 4:22Speaker 3: are the facts. But I think again, you know, the
- 4:25Speaker 3: contract reflects that's that place. It reflects his games played,
- 4:32Speaker 3: It reflects the number of times he hasn't finished the season.
- 4:36Speaker 3: You know. It's it's a good mid level deal for
- 4:39Speaker 3: a guy who was I think he was fifth in
- 4:41Speaker 3: rushing when he got hurt. And if they get that
- 4:44Speaker 3: over even fourteen games, I think that ups the ante
- 4:49Speaker 3: in the run game a little bit. But if he
- 4:52Speaker 3: plays four games, you know, that's that's sort of a
- 4:56Speaker 3: dre greenlass signing. You didn't get what you hoped for
- 4:59Speaker 3: out of it.
- 5:00Speaker 2: All right, David and Joku. There's the name that keeps
- 5:03Speaker 2: floating around and I think a lot of people, at
- 5:05Speaker 2: least on Twitter want to try to put those two
- 5:08Speaker 2: things together. Do you think David and Joku knowing Shawn's
- 5:11Speaker 2: offense or you know what version we're going to see
- 5:13Speaker 2: under Davis web does he fit for the Broncos? There
- 5:17Speaker 2: is that a guy you think they'd be interested in
- 5:19Speaker 2: or is it just people trying to, you know, match
- 5:21Speaker 2: a free agent with a team.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I think people just want them to do something. Sure,
- 5:26Speaker 3: that's that's the best sort of player at a position
- 5:29Speaker 3: they need still in the market. You know, I think
- 5:34Speaker 3: instead of him, they'd be more apt to look at
- 5:36Speaker 3: a player like him in the draft. I think that's
- 5:38Speaker 3: where they would go right now. Again, you know, they
- 5:41Speaker 3: can always change their mind, and if they can get
- 5:44Speaker 3: him or get him or any other free agent at
- 5:47Speaker 3: their price in May or June, you know they've proven
- 5:51Speaker 3: they're going to do that. You know they did it
- 5:53Speaker 3: with Dobbins. We just talked about it. So I think
- 5:56Speaker 3: they're always looking. But the price point. If it was
- 6:00Speaker 3: a player they wanted and the price point was where
- 6:03Speaker 3: they wanted, he'd already be here. That's That's what I
- 6:05Speaker 3: always say, because it's true.
- 6:07Speaker 2: All right, So is there should we just they're done right?
- 6:11Speaker 2: We're just sitting tight till the draft, you think, or
- 6:15Speaker 2: that may surprisingly intrigue them.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I don't think so. I mean, I know we all
- 6:20Speaker 3: want there to be some magic player. A doesn't mean
- 6:24Speaker 3: they won't sign anybody. But again, if if price matched desire,
- 6:29Speaker 3: the guy is already here. And they looked at the
- 6:33Speaker 3: first big wave of free agency and decided none of
- 6:38Speaker 3: those players matched their price point and their desire to
- 6:42Speaker 3: have them. So I don't think that suddenly changes unless
- 6:46Speaker 3: the prices go down for guys who were out there.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Jeff Legwell of ESPN, uh, just continuing to uh why informost.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Jeff's not really doing anything. It's not his fault.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Nobody can blame this on Jet Jeff pop balloons in
- 7:01Speaker 2: the past, Jeff. They ain't Jeff's fault. This ain't Jeff's balloon.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I think the problem is not the problem, but the
- 7:08Speaker 3: issue is we all of us. We look at free
- 7:12Speaker 3: agency in this one week window when the team sees
- 7:15Speaker 3: it like the trade deadline. The trade deadline seven months away.
- 7:20Speaker 3: It's not like tomorrow, so you can make a trade
- 7:23Speaker 3: for another seven months on the NFL calendar. That's how
- 7:26Speaker 3: the NFL teams look at it. You know, whether it's
- 7:30Speaker 3: Aj Brown or anybody else. You know, there's a the
- 7:33Speaker 3: trade window is open for months still, and just because
- 7:38Speaker 3: you didn't do one now where the prices are the highest,
- 7:43Speaker 3: doesn't mean you won't do something later. So the other
- 7:46Speaker 3: issue is their cap situation next year isn't great. They've
- 7:51Speaker 3: they've used up their money and their cap next year.
- 7:55Speaker 3: And I know, we don't care about next year right now,
- 7:57Speaker 3: and we all say the cap isn't real and all that,
- 7:59Speaker 3: but you're talking about a team that wrestled with an
- 8:03Speaker 3: epic amount of dead money and is concerned about the
- 8:07Speaker 3: salary cap. And in twenty seven, the draft is, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 3: right now, looking like it's going to be spectacular, So
- 8:16Speaker 3: you want as many picks and you know, salary cap
- 8:20Speaker 3: room for the draft as you as you need. And
- 8:23Speaker 3: the bow Knicks contract is out there, you know, a
- 8:26Speaker 3: year from now or a little more a year from now.
- 8:28Speaker 3: But those things are what they're looking at too. It
- 8:32Speaker 3: isn't just about spending as much money as possible right
- 8:36Speaker 3: now because they think they think their window is open
- 8:41Speaker 3: and they think they've done what they wanted and needed
- 8:44Speaker 3: to do in the first week of free agency, they
- 8:48Speaker 3: just chose their own jersey over someone else's.
- 8:52Speaker 1: So, Jeff, the the tight ends after Kenyan Sadik And
- 8:57Speaker 1: you know, according to your olet espn Eli Steward's Vanderbilt
- 9:03Speaker 1: who had an insane combine sick athlete, we know that
- 9:06Speaker 1: he is Joe Royer of Cincinnati, Max Clair of Ohio State,
- 9:10Speaker 1: Dallen Bentley of Utah already drafted a tight end from
- 9:14Speaker 1: Utah last year. We might as well add another one.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But along that, Jeff, as you have gotten to know
- 9:20Speaker 1: what John Peyton is seeking for and players at that position,
- 9:25Speaker 1: have you circled a guy and said, this guy has
- 9:28Speaker 1: got the Sean Payton Bronco fit written all over him.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Well, the guy you're intrigued by. If you're the Broncos
- 9:35Speaker 3: and they are taking a long look, they're gonna meet
- 9:37Speaker 3: they've you know, he will certainly be one of their
- 9:41Speaker 3: thirty visits is star wars because athletically, that's just hard
- 9:47Speaker 3: to find. A player like that is just simply hard
- 9:50Speaker 3: to find. And as a coach, it's just going to
- 9:54Speaker 3: be up to you to figure out how to fit
- 9:57Speaker 3: that into an NFL offense. Now, I will tell you
- 10:01Speaker 3: from talking to Sean about the draft and free agency
- 10:04Speaker 3: of the price. He wants guys who are really smart,
- 10:08Speaker 3: and they're not gonna They're not gonna waiver on that.
- 10:11Speaker 3: You're not gonna if they're choosing between player A and
- 10:14Speaker 3: player B and they surrender a slight amount of athleticism
- 10:18Speaker 3: for smart, they're gonna do it every time.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Vanderbilt guy.
- 10:22Speaker 3: But that's what I'm saying. This guy has the combination
- 10:25Speaker 3: of all of those things. And he's a former quarterback
- 10:29Speaker 3: and no matter what. Let you know r J. Harvey.
- 10:31Speaker 3: That was one of the things they attracted them about
- 10:35Speaker 3: RJ was you just see the game differently if you've
- 10:39Speaker 3: had to play that position, if you've been forced to
- 10:43Speaker 3: look over the line of scrimmage and make decisions really quickly.
- 10:47Speaker 3: They like that. And he's got all those things, and
- 10:49Speaker 3: I that would be one guy that you know, as
- 10:52Speaker 3: the first round is unfolding, that's gonna be their decision.
- 10:56Speaker 3: You know, if he's still on the board, is that
- 10:58Speaker 3: we're thirty there for them and all that. But he's
- 11:01Speaker 3: the best impactful receiver in waiting of that group. I
- 11:06Speaker 3: think a lot of those other guys are going to
- 11:08Speaker 3: be good. I think Max Claire will be a very
- 11:11Speaker 3: good pro tight end. I like injuries from Texas because
- 11:16Speaker 3: he has shown some downfield flashes.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Royer.
- 11:21Speaker 3: I mean, all those guys are going to be good
- 11:23Speaker 3: tight ends, but the impactful guy as a receiver right
- 11:27Speaker 3: out of the gate could be Stours. It's just he
- 11:31Speaker 3: hasn't played tight end very long, so you're looking at
- 11:33Speaker 3: a question of how raw is he and all those things.
- 11:35Speaker 3: But that's kind of the guy I think they're really
- 11:38Speaker 3: trying to due diligence on because if you want him,
- 11:42Speaker 3: you're going to have to consider taking him at thirty
- 11:45Speaker 3: you know, in that area, and so that's going to
- 11:47Speaker 3: require some work. I will say overall, it's one of
- 11:51Speaker 3: the deepest groups of tight ends in day two and
- 11:53Speaker 3: Day three that I can ever remember. So there are
- 11:56Speaker 3: productive NFL players who could dent certainly dent the depth
- 12:02Speaker 3: chart for the Broncos this year if they get them.
- 12:06Speaker 3: But to me, Stours is the impact potential rookie impact
- 12:11Speaker 3: as a receiver.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Waiting. All right, you got some nonsense about how far
- 12:14Speaker 2: you're a line I are going, since I'm hearing it
- 12:16Speaker 2: from my partner here all day, I mean, you're a
- 12:17Speaker 2: big are you dancing to the sixteen?
- 12:19Speaker 1: You're going to the elite eight on national title.
- 12:21Speaker 2: He's already laid it out. I hoist the trophy. That
- 12:24Speaker 2: ain't happen.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Well, you know we've we've done the what you do?
- 12:28Speaker 3: You know you don't want to win all the games
- 12:30Speaker 3: right before you go to the time. That puts that
- 12:33Speaker 3: puts undue pressure on you. I mean just look at
- 12:35Speaker 3: Miami of Ohio. So you know, we have taken the
- 12:38Speaker 3: pressure off ourselves to be ready for the tournament.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Just surprise everybody.
- 12:46Speaker 1: We're not a surprise. We have a top ten team
- 12:48Speaker 1: of the entire season. Yeah, we got we got all
- 12:51Speaker 1: the wet, all the itches. We're good to go. Man.
- 12:54Speaker 3: We'd be the best team in Europe too, So we
- 12:56Speaker 3: we've got to you know, cont.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Andy, we got pages kid on our team. We're gonna
- 13:02Speaker 1: we're we're gonna be just fine. Okay, don't you worry
- 13:06Speaker 1: about that. This the the national The National title road
- 13:10Speaker 1: is paved with dollar bills at the align. I in
- 13:14Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald, everybody of ESPN. Jeff excellent work as always, man,
- 13:19Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you, fellows all joy the great Jeff Legwald.
- 13:23Speaker 2: There
