- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: There just was a lot of division, I think within
- 0:22Speaker 3: the ranks on those two staffs, and I think they
- 0:24Speaker 3: can really undermine what you're doing as a head coach.
- 0:28Speaker 4: When Barth's cheating on you with David andrews Now on
- 0:30Speaker 4: that his new podcast, you should ask him a lot.
- 0:31Speaker 5: That's a fair point.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I can just see Evan, he's watching the Super Bowl
- 0:35Speaker 2: and he's got his jersey mics and he's like half
- 0:37Speaker 2: bites like they're running a six to one with the Tills.
- 0:41Speaker 6: We all decided at some point that red meat was
- 0:43Speaker 6: the devil. So I don't know who you people are
- 0:46Speaker 6: eating a lot of red meat.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Is not eat anything that bleeds or blood at one time.
- 0:50Speaker 6: That's not It's not the best for you.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Can I go to my dark negative side.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Sure of course, that's why you're here, which people like
- 0:57Speaker 3: you in front of it.
- 0:58Speaker 5: I mean, you know, they got nothing three hundred million dollars.
- 1:01Speaker 3: This makes the package they got for Mookie Bats look
- 1:03Speaker 3: like they got Jason bear attack in.
- 1:04Speaker 6: Deren Hall for Heathcliffe and is the trade hit on
- 1:07Speaker 6: by the way, July end of July. I just don't
- 1:10Speaker 6: know why trading.
- 1:11Speaker 5: For a month and a half. It's a month and
- 1:13Speaker 5: a half from now.
- 1:13Speaker 6: You don't know how calendars work.
- 1:15Speaker 3: It's less than a month of west he said, end
- 1:17Speaker 3: of July.
- 1:17Speaker 6: Usually it's the middle of July. But but it's the
- 1:20Speaker 6: end of June.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Now the seventh. That's the middle of children, middle of June.
- 1:24Speaker 6: So it's less than a month away.
- 1:25Speaker 5: I said a month and a half because he said
- 1:27Speaker 5: it was the end of July.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You know.

- 1:54Speaker 5: Is that a face? Of course it is fourth What
- 1:57Speaker 5: are the.
- 1:57Speaker 6: Traditions for that?
- 1:58Speaker 4: You get bro find you don't make your powders on
- 2:04Speaker 4: the third?
- 2:04Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 2:04Speaker 6: What some places do the fireworks on the third?
- 2:06Speaker 5: Listen?
- 2:07Speaker 2: My town did the fireworks last Saturday, and I forgot
- 2:11Speaker 2: and the dog went was Yeah, usually I can prep
- 2:13Speaker 2: my dog, you.
- 2:14Speaker 6: Know, yeah, I'm going to value or something. How do
- 2:17Speaker 6: you prep your dog? It's a real thing.
- 2:19Speaker 5: Oh, I know it is.
- 2:20Speaker 6: They're terrifying.
- 2:21Speaker 5: I know it is. Yeah, poor thing.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Anyway, Yeah, that went on for seventeen minutes, literally across
- 2:27Speaker 2: the street from Jeez. So but yes, some town towns
- 2:32Speaker 2: do do it on the third tonight.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Yeah, need them does it on the third? I think
- 2:36Speaker 6: because like people have plans on the fourth.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Yeah. This Fourth of July is probably my second favorite.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Holiday behind Christmas.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Fair. Yeah, look at that good rankings Power rank my holiday.
- 2:49Speaker 2: It's like Israel and Palestine coming together.
- 2:54Speaker 5: That's yeah. Fourthge life for you is a big one.
- 2:56Speaker 5: That's like everything everything you love. I love it. Yeah
- 2:59Speaker 5: you said that. I love it. And the food's better,
- 3:01Speaker 5: but I do like Christmas the best.
- 3:03Speaker 6: So you don't have turkey?
- 3:04Speaker 2: Wouldn't you say that four traditional Fourth of July food
- 3:07Speaker 2: is better than Thanksgiving food?
- 3:09Speaker 3: By launch Nesgiving food is the most overrated absolute and.
- 3:13Speaker 5: My mom for Fourth of July we'd always get a
- 3:16Speaker 5: big roast. It was just what's the best a roast?
- 3:21Speaker 5: That's kind of weird. I have to say. It's a
- 3:24Speaker 5: reference to Jaws. Oh my holiday roast, I couldn't resist.
- 3:29Speaker 6: I wus a lot of roasts.
- 3:33Speaker 5: I went to the movies here.
- 3:34Speaker 4: I've been on a little vacation and I saw a
- 3:35Speaker 4: preview four Jaws, which I know everyone make fun of me.
- 3:38Speaker 4: But that music when it starts coming through the big
- 3:40Speaker 4: speakers and then yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 6: How did you see you? For a movie?
- 3:43Speaker 5: They're releasing it, Evan, because it's a classic. Well Fleet
- 3:47Speaker 5: drives playing it. Are they really I don't know. August
- 3:51Speaker 5: twenty ninth, me and Paul were talking.
- 3:52Speaker 4: They re release it, and they also are giving away
- 3:55Speaker 4: and not giving away. You can buy it, but the
- 3:56Speaker 4: souvenir cups are like the barrel from the Yeah, so I.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Go on with three battles.
- 4:02Speaker 4: On's got my name written all over it, I think
- 4:05Speaker 4: August twenty ninth, so I think we I think we
- 4:07Speaker 4: might have to make a little walk over to the theater.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Maybe Paul's got under something, He's got under the boat.
- 4:12Speaker 4: We can we can just talk the whole movie and
- 4:13Speaker 4: people that these guys are the most annoying guys ever.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Were just line for line the whole you had to
- 4:17Speaker 5: deal with that. I did well. I'm glad you brought
- 4:19Speaker 5: that up.
- 4:20Speaker 8: Aul.
- 4:20Speaker 4: That was something for the group because I was at
- 4:22Speaker 4: a movie with my kids and there were a bunch
- 4:23Speaker 4: of middle schoolers who came in and I'm.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Like, Oh, this isn't gonna be good. They're just talking.
- 4:28Speaker 4: One of them took a speakerphone call just as the
- 4:30Speaker 4: movie Jurassic Park was starting, and I just was so
- 4:34Speaker 4: stuck because I feel like there's like you can start
- 4:37Speaker 4: to get into it with middle school boys, but you're
- 4:39Speaker 4: not gonna win. Like those kids, I feel like, are
- 4:42Speaker 4: just they're just gonna.
- 4:42Speaker 5: Be shut up, old man, get out of you know.
- 4:45Speaker 5: So I was just I thought of you guys because
- 4:46Speaker 5: I'm like, I been friend the hammer, Like, what are
- 4:49Speaker 5: you gonna do? They're middle school I know.
- 4:51Speaker 4: And that's what I said to my kids afterwards, is
- 4:52Speaker 4: I was like, you know, the only thing to do,
- 4:54Speaker 4: I feel like, is to be like and I won't.
- 4:55Speaker 5: I won't swear her on the raid, like hey, shu,
- 4:58Speaker 5: you know you just like that me. I mean, man
- 5:00Speaker 5: boy aggressive sho like shut the front right now, you
- 5:04Speaker 5: know that kind? But I just a parent got up
- 5:06Speaker 5: and talked to them I.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Mean, it was just they were talking the whole the
- 5:08Speaker 2: whole movie. The whole movie is no, you gotta come down,
- 5:12Speaker 2: you gotta lay the hammer down.
- 5:13Speaker 5: There's no winning though against middle school kids. I just
- 5:15Speaker 5: I felt powerless.
- 5:16Speaker 4: I felt like, no matter what I say, they're gonna
- 5:17Speaker 4: have some smart ass comment, it's just gonna get him
- 5:20Speaker 4: an even more.
- 5:20Speaker 3: You can't hit him saying I don't have to hammer.
- 5:24Speaker 5: And when they walked out at the end of the
- 5:25Speaker 5: movie and I saw them in the light, I was
- 5:27Speaker 5: just like, you gotta be kidding me, Like, these kids
- 5:29Speaker 5: look like they're about you know, they probably are like eleven,
- 5:31Speaker 5: twelve years old.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Well that's where the that's your phone conversation.
- 5:35Speaker 5: That was ridiculous, and they and you could tell they
- 5:36Speaker 5: thought they were being funny with it. And I was
- 5:39Speaker 5: getting ready to get up and say something because.
- 5:41Speaker 2: We were in those nice, yeah, reclined seats, so you know,
- 5:45Speaker 2: when you're at your lette stadium, they publish if there's
- 5:47Speaker 2: a problem.
- 5:48Speaker 5: Here's the thing, detective.
- 5:49Speaker 2: That's what I was thinking about, the same thing in
- 5:51Speaker 2: the movie.
- 5:51Speaker 4: And then but you know how like movie movie, like
- 5:53Speaker 4: movie employees, like the guy who just comes in with
- 5:56Speaker 4: you know, like the long hair and they're like.
- 5:58Speaker 6: He's the one doing a phone call. That's that's good.
- 6:02Speaker 5: That's why if you're not here to watch the movie,
- 6:04Speaker 5: get out. I know it was. It ruined my my,
- 6:09Speaker 5: my move, my movie going experience.
- 6:10Speaker 6: So it was so I didn't the movie and self
- 6:13Speaker 6: didn't ruin it because.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Now the movie wasn't great, but it's like, though, so
- 6:18Speaker 4: that was kind of my way to try to make
- 6:19Speaker 4: it a little.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Bit more entertaining. Three. No, it's his Jurassic part of
- 6:24Speaker 5: Jurassic part Josh three. They did actually do that later
- 6:28Speaker 5: the terrible, terrible movie. Yeah, Scar Joe was in it.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Though it was it was forgettable, you know, but I
- 6:35Speaker 5: feel like the three D kind of makes it visually
- 6:38Speaker 5: entertaining so you can sit through it. At least it
- 6:40Speaker 5: doesn't I think.
- 6:41Speaker 6: So it's upsetting to me that, like, did Hollywood so unriginal?
- 6:46Speaker 6: Now that we're on like Jurassic Park seventeen, it was like,
- 6:48Speaker 6: can we come up with something?
- 6:50Speaker 5: We had to count out it's eight you're right movie,
- 6:53Speaker 5: this is the eighth, and.
- 6:54Speaker 6: Then Fast and Furious is coming out with like this
- 6:56Speaker 6: is they're saying, this is the last one.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Guys, it's the slowing down and not quite so ferious.
- 7:02Speaker 6: It's like fast eleven.
- 7:04Speaker 5: I just have the chime in. It's the seventh one.
- 7:06Speaker 5: Oh the dress work my son miscounted.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Then I apologize, but still I would have thought like four,
- 7:13Speaker 3: like seven.
- 7:14Speaker 6: No, because like Chris Pratt had his whole No, I
- 7:18Speaker 6: I enjoyed.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Each one becomes like and we're gonna make this crazy
- 7:22Speaker 5: new dinosaur that yeah, like you can't do the you know,
- 7:24Speaker 5: the t rexident. But then at the end it's one
- 7:26Speaker 5: crazy it's a little bit over the top.
- 7:28Speaker 6: Did you like the original?
- 7:29Speaker 2: That seems like I really did, Like ready, yeah.
- 7:33Speaker 6: And I thought the Chris Pratt reboot wasn't terrible. But
- 7:36Speaker 6: then they should have just stopped there like they kept now.
- 7:39Speaker 2: But it's just the same thing. Every time you get loose.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Then I get loose the same thing.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I know.
- 7:45Speaker 6: It's there was some jokes like that and the Chris
- 7:51Speaker 6: Pratt one where it was like they did this again. Yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 6: there were some of that.
- 7:55Speaker 5: That was summer movie, you know, thing to do in
- 7:57Speaker 5: the summer, go see a movie. All right, Patriots, what
- 8:01Speaker 5: do we got? Nothing? Nothing?
- 8:03Speaker 3: I mean, based on the first eight minutes of the show,
- 8:05Speaker 3: I think, well you can, Yes, we don't have.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I was listening to Paul's show, or one of Paul's
- 8:11Speaker 2: shows yesterday and not the one I was on. I
- 8:14Speaker 2: guess there was some facacta list out there that ranked
- 8:17Speaker 2: the offensive cordinators and Josh McDaniels came up like twenty
- 8:22Speaker 2: one or twenty two, twenty two. Interesting, And what do
- 8:25Speaker 2: you think about that?
- 8:26Speaker 6: I don't look at.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I mean, is that is that the bias of the
- 8:29Speaker 2: his head coaching experience?
- 8:31Speaker 3: So coming in I looked at and I was originally
- 8:33Speaker 3: taken aback when I saw the list. It's definitely low.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I mean, even after further evaluation, it's it's the.
- 8:41Speaker 6: Thirty third team. No, it was Pro Football Network. I believe,
- 8:44Speaker 6: Oh that was your first mistake.
- 8:46Speaker 3: And they had the list the top ten, I would
- 8:51Speaker 3: say kind of inarguable, like they're all I would say,
- 8:55Speaker 3: considered to be better than Josh McDaniel's pants got. But
- 8:58Speaker 3: when you get to the next ten, I think there's
- 9:00Speaker 3: some there's some arguments to be made individually here and there.
- 9:04Speaker 3: I think it's preference. I think what I think with
- 9:07Speaker 3: the the message there, they think he's I think a
- 9:11Speaker 3: little antiquated I think his his offense is a little
- 9:14Speaker 3: bit behind the times. I think that's the drawback there.
- 9:17Speaker 3: But there was other guys like Brian Dabele. What do
- 9:21Speaker 3: you think, Brian Dables? It was play callers by the way, Okay,
- 9:26Speaker 3: Kyle shanahan, all right, Kyle shanahan, Sean McVay.
- 9:30Speaker 5: You know these are guys.
- 9:31Speaker 1: You know.
- 9:32Speaker 6: I have the list, like it's the list with all
- 9:34Speaker 6: the analysis, so I have to like scroll through things.
- 9:37Speaker 3: It's Andy Reid, Sean McVay, Kyle Shannon, Kyle shanahan McVay,
- 9:41Speaker 3: Sean Payton.
- 9:42Speaker 5: So there's a Kevin O'Connell arguable.
- 9:48Speaker 3: I would I would say that you asked one hundred
- 9:51Speaker 3: fans guys, but you ask one hundred NFL fans and
- 9:53Speaker 3: they're all going to say no. Those guys are all
- 9:56Speaker 3: But Brian Dabele I would think still had a good reputation,
- 10:01Speaker 3: but he's down where McDaniels is.
- 10:03Speaker 5: So that's why I took it.
- 10:05Speaker 3: This is more of an indictment in the offense, I
- 10:07Speaker 3: think than the actual play caller.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Yeah, because if Dabe was still with Josh Allen, he's
- 10:11Speaker 5: probably I.
- 10:12Speaker 6: Have I have a lot of gripes with this list,
- 10:14Speaker 6: So I think that the middle ten, but not to
- 10:16Speaker 6: cho Kyle Shann's number one. I can't get higher than that,
- 10:20Speaker 6: and rightfully so.
- 10:21Speaker 3: But the top ten you're okay with? Right, top ten
- 10:23Speaker 3: looks good? Yeah, it's the next ten?
- 10:25Speaker 5: How many of those?
- 10:26Speaker 6: Like how is Dave Knalis thirteen on this list?
- 10:29Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 10:30Speaker 3: You know Zach Taylor with Kingsbury, Dave Canalis, Joe Brady
- 10:35Speaker 3: I think is in there somewhere, Like.
- 10:38Speaker 2: So, what what are what are the correct here? It's
- 10:40Speaker 2: play callers? So are they looking for understands the flow
- 10:43Speaker 2: of the game?
- 10:44Speaker 6: You know, like Zach Taylor at eighteen ahead of Josh
- 10:47Speaker 6: McDaniels is laughable. Like if you gave Josh McDaniels, Joe Burrow,
- 10:50Speaker 6: Jamar Chase and T Higgins, he would like he would
- 10:52Speaker 6: also have a great offense.
- 10:54Speaker 2: But I'm just wondering, like, what are the what are
- 10:56Speaker 2: the elements that they believe whoever made this list to
- 10:59Speaker 2: make up a play call?
- 11:00Speaker 6: It's a good question because you guys in the middle ten.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I thought Stefanski was actually low based on what he's
- 11:06Speaker 3: done with a mess of the situation at the quarterback at.
- 11:09Speaker 5: Times agree with that.
- 11:10Speaker 4: I would just like to know from a really just
- 11:12Speaker 4: from a general numbers standpoint of how many head coaches
- 11:15Speaker 4: are play callers, Like, what is that number in the NFL?
- 11:18Speaker 4: I think it's it's you know, I mean, I guess
- 11:21Speaker 4: that would say probably the top ten is all head coaches.
- 11:23Speaker 4: I would guess this is that, like where Evan is
- 11:25Speaker 4: the first offensive coordinator if you don't mind scrolling of that, because.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Well, now Ben Johnson's a head coach.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Johnson, McVeigh, O'Connell.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Sean Payton, Todd Monkin at eight.
- 11:40Speaker 5: So it's like the first seven are all head coaches.
- 11:44Speaker 6: Yeah, but so the criteria, it doesn't even have an
- 11:48Speaker 6: author on here. The criteria is a reputation, recent performance,
- 11:55Speaker 6: current scheme, and trajectory. And to me, like that's not
- 12:00Speaker 6: play calling. Has nothing to do with play call.
- 12:03Speaker 2: So I think they're like they're just calling an offensive
- 12:05Speaker 2: coordinator with play call.
- 12:06Speaker 6: I guess because like technically the architects like deduce his point,
- 12:10Speaker 6: like Kyle Shanahan is the architect of the forty nine
- 12:12Speaker 6: ers offense, but he's not their offensive coordinator. Yeah, he's
- 12:15Speaker 6: their head coach. So yeah, it in order to include
- 12:18Speaker 6: guys like Shanahan, McVeigh Andy Reid, like you have to
- 12:22Speaker 6: open it up to the head coaches, and the only
- 12:24Speaker 6: way to really do that is I would like, maybe
- 12:27Speaker 6: it's too fancy, but like offensive architect is really what
- 12:30Speaker 6: you're talking about, Like who is the director of the offense.
- 12:32Speaker 3: If I were doing this list, I would absolutely have
- 12:35Speaker 3: all of those head coaches there because I consider those
- 12:37Speaker 3: guys whether they're actually calling the plays.
- 12:39Speaker 5: They're running the office drive of the offense. Right.
- 12:41Speaker 3: But I do think that one of the things that
- 12:44Speaker 3: you mentioned, Fred off the top is one of their criteria,
- 12:47Speaker 3: you know, recent recent trends. I think that he probably
- 12:50Speaker 3: does get knocked stable reputation. Yeah, Table and mc daniels,
- 12:55Speaker 3: I think for their recent time. I think if you
- 12:59Speaker 3: did this, you know, three or four years ago over dable,
- 13:02Speaker 3: he'd be higher than that. But the giant situation wasn't
- 13:06Speaker 3: like the Josh Allen, which is again why I agree
- 13:08Speaker 3: with Evans's point about well, jeez, if he gave McDaniels
- 13:12Speaker 3: Joe Burrow and T Higgins and Jamar Chase, I think
- 13:15Speaker 3: you'd probably look at him a little bit differently.
- 13:17Speaker 2: And and you know, I get what people are saying
- 13:19Speaker 2: about maybe McDaniels offense has looked to be antiquated, but
- 13:25Speaker 2: I do think McDaniels has shown adaptability over the years.
- 13:30Speaker 5: I mean he went in O seven.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Once he had Moss in those tools, they opened things up.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Now.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I don't know if you're want to give Belichick credit
- 13:39Speaker 2: for that or McDaniels, but that was a different offense
- 13:42Speaker 2: than we've seen.
- 13:44Speaker 5: I can I go and see Tom Brady.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Well, Tom Brady's involved too, and obviously he had to
- 13:51Speaker 2: execute it. But somebody decided, okay, we're.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Going to start getting changed the most that year.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Well he did.
- 13:57Speaker 2: He showed that he can do it anyway, but somebody
- 14:01Speaker 2: had to decide we're gonna do it a different way.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Whether that was Belichick or McDaniels, somebody had to make
- 14:07Speaker 2: that decision.
- 14:08Speaker 5: I think it was Brady. He told them this is
- 14:10Speaker 5: what we're doing.
- 14:11Speaker 3: I think he's the one who throws the passes. I
- 14:13Speaker 3: think he decides where to throw the ball.
- 14:15Speaker 5: I understand. I think he was far more aggressive.
- 14:17Speaker 2: But don't you think don't you think that the offense
- 14:20Speaker 2: changed a little bit once they had Moss.
- 14:23Speaker 6: Absolutely certainly threw the ball more. Yeah, I mean their
- 14:26Speaker 6: personnel change like they went to three receiver. They've been
- 14:29Speaker 6: a slot receiver with Welker.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, if you want to call it
- 14:32Speaker 2: a group decision, fine, but I think McDaniels was involved
- 14:35Speaker 2: in it.
- 14:35Speaker 4: We'll go to twenty twenty two. I mean with Cam Newton.
- 14:37Speaker 4: I mean he had to have to adjust things to that.
- 14:40Speaker 4: I think this circle is the biggest question we have
- 14:42Speaker 4: about Josh McDaniels, especially here, is just without Tom Brady,
- 14:44Speaker 4: what does it really look like, you know, when he
- 14:46Speaker 4: really has his guy. I mean we'd have to probably
- 14:48Speaker 4: do a deep dive into I mean, what was it
- 14:50Speaker 4: got rid of what's his face from from Denver when
- 14:53Speaker 4: he got there? Jake Cautler and Brandon Butler and Marshall.
- 14:58Speaker 4: But then who is the other guy that Kyle or
- 15:00Speaker 4: Tim Tebow hol Orton for a while.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Kyle Orton instead of Jay Keller kind of there, you know.
- 15:06Speaker 2: So so that maybe not the greatest personnel guy.
- 15:09Speaker 5: Curious moves, I know, that's but not a good head coach.
- 15:12Speaker 5: You know.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I was critical of the Patriots of that rookie year
- 15:15Speaker 2: for Matt Jones that they were coddling him. They weren't
- 15:17Speaker 2: you know, testing him and letting him make mistakes. But
- 15:21Speaker 2: maybe if McDaniels is here and he was being one
- 15:24Speaker 2: hundred percent honest, he said he just couldn't do things.
- 15:26Speaker 4: So I had to kind of what it is we
- 15:28Speaker 4: had to do that based on saw from mac from that.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Point, and and I do feel like they coddled him.
- 15:35Speaker 3: But you know, and I've been pretty stubborn about this,
- 15:37Speaker 3: but I have to admit that, you know, the numbers
- 15:40Speaker 3: would tell you they were okay, Right, they did all right.
- 15:43Speaker 5: And he would probably make Jones. That's the only way
- 15:45Speaker 5: we could have been open.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Now.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I think there was so many of those points that
- 15:47Speaker 3: were scored by, whether directly or indirectly, the defense that
- 15:51Speaker 3: people don't really look into it. But the numbers are
- 15:53Speaker 3: the numbers, the numbers that had them being okay.
- 15:56Speaker 5: Especially in comparison with the last two years we've watched
- 15:58Speaker 5: the offense. He'll for that based on what we saw
- 16:01Speaker 5: in the last two years.
- 16:02Speaker 6: Yeah, it might be semantics, but like, that's not a
- 16:05Speaker 6: play caller list, Like that's not what play calling is, right.
- 16:09Speaker 3: I don't but I think you're taking the term play
- 16:11Speaker 3: caller literally.
- 16:12Speaker 5: Yes, Yes, I'm not offensive architects. I'm talking about.
- 16:16Speaker 6: No, no, and that who's running the I understand.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Saying if you were taking it literally, that wouldn't be
- 16:22Speaker 2: a good list.
- 16:24Speaker 6: It's not a good list anyways, but it wouldn't be
- 16:26Speaker 6: especially would not be a good list if you're talking
- 16:28Speaker 6: about play calling itself. I think McDaniel's the top ten
- 16:31Speaker 6: play caller in the NFL. Like actually in game play calling,
- 16:34Speaker 6: you know, play calling, opening script, sequencing plays, setting up
- 16:38Speaker 6: things early in the games, adjusting to things that defense
- 16:40Speaker 6: is doing in game, you know, understanding situations like that.
- 16:44Speaker 6: That's play calling.
- 16:45Speaker 5: Yeah, you know that.
- 16:46Speaker 6: That's the type of stuff that I think that he's
- 16:48Speaker 6: a lead at. You know, in terms of interview, if
- 16:51Speaker 6: you want to say that these guys have more innovative
- 16:53Speaker 6: offenses for twenty twenty five, I guess you could make
- 16:57Speaker 6: that argument. I don't know what mcdaniels's offense is going
- 17:00Speaker 6: to look like now, but you can make that case.
- 17:02Speaker 6: But if you want to talk about guys that truly
- 17:05Speaker 6: understand the chess match and with the defense, and you're
- 17:09Speaker 6: running a play in the first quarter that isn't necessarily
- 17:13Speaker 6: all the time running it to be super successful running it,
- 17:15Speaker 6: but you're running it because in the fourth quarter, you're
- 17:18Speaker 6: gonna have a counter that they're not going to be expecting,
- 17:21Speaker 6: and that's when you're gonna make the big play happen.
- 17:23Speaker 6: You know, so much of the play callers opening script
- 17:27Speaker 6: is just setting up, Okay, if we come out in
- 17:30Speaker 6: this personnel grouping in this formation, like how is the
- 17:33Speaker 6: defense going to defend us? In that? You're learning, right,
- 17:37Speaker 6: You're digesting information so that later on in the game
- 17:40Speaker 6: you can call plays reacting to that. So, like, those
- 17:44Speaker 6: are the types of things that you get into with
- 17:46Speaker 6: play calling. That's different between designing an offense, Like those
- 17:49Speaker 6: are two different.
- 17:51Speaker 4: I through even like the opening script of a game
- 17:53Speaker 4: onto that as well, Like guys that come out and
- 17:56Speaker 4: we saw plenty of times with the remember Patriots teams,
- 17:58Speaker 4: you know the other team will come out, go right
- 18:00Speaker 4: on the field and you're like, geez, how then they
- 18:01Speaker 4: wouldn't score again sometimes, But I think that's a great
- 18:05Speaker 4: reflection on some of these play callers as well.
- 18:07Speaker 5: How prepared are you?
- 18:07Speaker 4: That's the one, you know, set of plays where you're
- 18:10Speaker 4: not being reactive to how the game's going.
- 18:11Speaker 5: You're going in this is how we want to do it. Guys,
- 18:14Speaker 5: offensive score on those first positions.
- 18:16Speaker 6: But everybody treats the opening script like some coaches treat
- 18:20Speaker 6: it differently than others. Bill, I think was about gathering
- 18:23Speaker 6: information in the opening script. So like that's why I
- 18:25Speaker 6: think a lot of the times you did see offenses
- 18:28Speaker 6: score on the opening drive, because all Bill wanted to
- 18:30Speaker 6: do was see what their game plan was, Like we're
- 18:33Speaker 6: gonna come out, We're gonna be kind of vanilla, and
- 18:35Speaker 6: we're just gonna see how they want to attack us,
- 18:38Speaker 6: and then I'm going to come to the sideline with
- 18:40Speaker 6: my three things that are going to stop them for
- 18:41Speaker 6: the rest of the game. And so the Patriots were
- 18:44Speaker 6: more about opening scripts being about digesting information that the
- 18:48Speaker 6: opponent was giving to them so that they could adjust
- 18:50Speaker 6: to what the opponent was doing.
- 18:52Speaker 4: And then annoying as an offensive coordinator though, where you're like,
- 18:55Speaker 4: I want to get these guys on the run.
- 18:56Speaker 5: I want to go out there, I want to score,
- 18:57Speaker 5: you know.
- 18:58Speaker 4: I mean, because there's many coordinators think toward defensive side
- 19:01Speaker 4: of game planning and you know, not trying to break
- 19:03Speaker 4: out all the tricks that you have up your sleeve
- 19:05Speaker 4: right out of the gate. But I'm fascinated by this
- 19:08Speaker 4: year with Josh the position he's been, where he's been,
- 19:11Speaker 4: the opportunity has to kind.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Of cement a legacy here.
- 19:14Speaker 4: He's got Drake May at his fingertips who has a
- 19:16Speaker 4: little bit of experience to build off of it. It's
- 19:20Speaker 4: a huge year, huge opportunity for him, I mean, his
- 19:22Speaker 4: legacy here the Patriots already probably pretty safe with the
- 19:25Speaker 4: success he had with Tom Brady, but to take it
- 19:27Speaker 4: to a whole other level now and really carve out
- 19:29Speaker 4: his own space as you know, playing people say, hey,
- 19:32Speaker 4: it was all Tom Brady, and you know what can
- 19:34Speaker 4: Josh do for this team now and get this offense
- 19:36Speaker 4: back on track that's just been i mean terrible the
- 19:38Speaker 4: last two years.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Who is more to prove him? Are Vybel probably him?
- 19:44Speaker 5: Good question? I mean, I don't know.
- 19:45Speaker 4: My first instinct is him that I think Mike vrabel
- 19:47Speaker 4: Is is going to coach a team that's gonna play hard, consistently,
- 19:51Speaker 4: and I think his success will just depend on the
- 19:53Speaker 4: talent level, whereas Josh might be asked and I'm just
- 19:56Speaker 4: spitball off the top of my head here, but Josh
- 19:59Speaker 4: might be asked to have to work around some of
- 20:01Speaker 4: those deficiencies a little bit more than you know Verebe
- 20:03Speaker 4: can get away with a team that plays hard and
- 20:04Speaker 4: doesn't make mistakes, whereas if Josh's offense does not produce
- 20:07Speaker 4: points in the NFL, it's gonna.
- 20:10Speaker 5: But I like the question for it because you can
- 20:12Speaker 5: make a strong argument for both.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, I know some guys have been
- 20:16Speaker 3: able to do it, but not a lot of guys
- 20:18Speaker 3: get a third shot. So if it doesn't worry for Rabel,
- 20:21Speaker 3: he's got a lot to prove to make sure that
- 20:23Speaker 3: it works.
- 20:23Speaker 5: And obvious what Mike just said.
- 20:25Speaker 3: About McDaniels, like, there's already that element of people out
- 20:29Speaker 3: there that think that it's Tom Brady.
- 20:31Speaker 5: It's never really done it without Brady.
- 20:32Speaker 2: So one of your guys, Joe Murray, I heard him
- 20:35Speaker 2: say it might have been this morning, said if if
- 20:37Speaker 2: May has a great year, May will get the credit
- 20:40Speaker 2: for it, but if he has a bad year, McDaniels
- 20:44Speaker 2: will get the blame.
- 20:45Speaker 5: I'm not sure I believe that.
- 20:46Speaker 2: And I was thinking to myself, Well, if May's turning
- 20:48Speaker 2: the ball over, May's going to get blamed for that.
- 20:50Speaker 3: He will, you know, And I think if May makes
- 20:54Speaker 3: an enormous leap, I think McDaniel's going to.
- 20:56Speaker 5: Get a lot of credit. I would think he's going
- 20:57Speaker 5: to make some credit.
- 20:58Speaker 3: He's going to get credit. Ye question, people are going
- 21:01Speaker 3: to say May is really good. Yeah, But there's no
- 21:03Speaker 3: doubt in my mind that McDaniels is going to get
- 21:05Speaker 3: credit for tapping into that potential and doing what they
- 21:09Speaker 3: couldn't do last year and avoiding the mistakes and all that.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Right, McDaniels will get credit. I think so too. So
- 21:14Speaker 5: I disagree and he should.
- 21:16Speaker 6: I just saying it credit, like to what end? Like
- 21:19Speaker 6: he's not going to get another head coaching job? Oh no,
- 21:21Speaker 6: So like I mean, yeah, he'll get credit for I
- 21:23Speaker 6: think most people believe that McDaniel's are a really good
- 21:27Speaker 6: offensive mine. I don't. I don't really think that there's
- 21:30Speaker 6: a whole lot maybe on Paul shows, but like, I
- 21:32Speaker 6: don't think that there's a whole lot of people, uh
- 21:35Speaker 6: in the league, in the league as they say that,
- 21:38Speaker 6: like look down on Josh McDaniels as an offensive coordinator
- 21:43Speaker 6: as a head coach. You know, maybe, but I think
- 21:45Speaker 6: a lot of people respect else.
- 21:47Speaker 5: I wonder if.
- 21:47Speaker 3: We think more of McDaniels here, myself included, then, is
- 21:52Speaker 3: largely the opinion around the league.
- 21:54Speaker 2: I probably because A we know more about him, and
- 21:58Speaker 2: B it's the head coaching I think tarnish his other achiation.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Like to Evan's point when he was talking about like
- 22:05Speaker 3: a lot of nuance, you know, sequencing plays and the
- 22:09Speaker 3: script and what you're trying to do and how you
- 22:11Speaker 3: were adjusting. I have no idea how anybody else in
- 22:15Speaker 3: the league is at that, because if you don't.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Watch every every game, every drive of every every game, you.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Have no All I know is that after one play
- 22:22Speaker 2: Brady looked at Josh and went like that.
- 22:26Speaker 5: So if Brady liked.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Him then the night before.
- 22:30Speaker 5: So I would.
- 22:30Speaker 3: But I would agree with Evan's assessment that the Patriots
- 22:34Speaker 3: that I've watched over the last twenty five years have
- 22:36Speaker 3: been very good at that. They have for the most part,
- 22:39Speaker 3: they've been very good at sort of seeing what the
- 22:41Speaker 3: other team's doing both sides of the ball, adjusting and
- 22:45Speaker 3: not necessarily succeeding with one thing. They're figuring out different
- 22:48Speaker 3: ways to exploit matchups and whatnot. I think the Patriots
- 22:52Speaker 3: have been very good at that. I don't have any
- 22:54Speaker 3: idea if every other team is good at it, because
- 22:56Speaker 3: I think that closely.
- 22:57Speaker 6: Yeah, a lot of coaches, especially the Shanahan try guys.
- 23:00Speaker 6: It's a system, and the system is like you know,
- 23:02Speaker 6: they just you run the system and you eventually it works,
- 23:06Speaker 6: you know, like you expect it to work.
- 23:08Speaker 3: But I don't know if like Cincinnati's offense, does it
- 23:11Speaker 3: so well because their personnel is just that good, yes,
- 23:14Speaker 3: or if they have something in the way that they're
- 23:17Speaker 3: designing offenses to get guys open.
- 23:19Speaker 6: I don't have much, no idea. I don't have much
- 23:21Speaker 6: positive things to say about that.
- 23:23Speaker 3: But that's that was just thought. That was just one
- 23:25Speaker 3: team that I just brought up. Yeah, you know, And
- 23:29Speaker 3: is it because of the personnel? Is it because I
- 23:33Speaker 3: don't know, I don't know the answer.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Is it you know?
- 23:35Speaker 3: Was McDaniels so successful at adjusting to what Seattle was
- 23:39Speaker 3: doing in Super Bowl forty whatever that one was forty nine?
- 23:42Speaker 3: I think I've been to so many I can't remember.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Was it because they were adjusting to what Seattle was doing?
- 23:49Speaker 3: Or is it because Tom Brady's just that much better
- 23:51Speaker 3: than everybody else? And he just says, I figured it out.
- 23:54Speaker 3: I have the answers to the test, as he famously said,
- 23:57Speaker 3: and this is what we're going to do. Yeah, I
- 23:59Speaker 3: don't know, Like I think there's a lot of nuance
- 24:01Speaker 3: there that's hard to know from the outside.
- 24:04Speaker 4: I'm going back to twenty twenty one and trying to
- 24:06Speaker 4: remember who got credit for a solid year between Josh
- 24:10Speaker 4: and and Mac, and I think they both kind of
- 24:11Speaker 4: got credit. I mean, Josh got another head coaching job
- 24:13Speaker 4: and Mac made the Pro Bowl alternate.
- 24:16Speaker 3: You know, but Mac was was absolutely given a lot
- 24:21Speaker 3: of credit for what a great rookie year.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Drafting year two?
- 24:25Speaker 3: Do you remember maybe the only time that I can
- 24:28Speaker 3: never remember on this show, Fred drew the ire of
- 24:32Speaker 3: people when you remember the five guys that got drafted in.
- 24:35Speaker 5: The first round, who would you take now?
- 24:38Speaker 6: And Fred was like Trevor Lawrence, oh yeah.
- 24:42Speaker 3: And people got Mady Oh yeah, remember Yeah, That's like
- 24:46Speaker 3: the only time I ever really remember getting getting getting
- 24:49Speaker 3: the smoke. As the kids said, oh never, no one's
- 24:52Speaker 3: ever given Fred a problem, and he said Trevor Lawrence, yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 3: because that's how highly people were thinking of Mac.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Jst like, And now Trevor Lawrence hasn't done great either,
- 25:05Speaker 2: But I still say in a better team, with better coaching,
- 25:08Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence.
- 25:08Speaker 5: Would have had a better career. I see I see
- 25:11Speaker 5: the upside with him, and.
- 25:13Speaker 4: You think he's one of those guys though that's going
- 25:14Speaker 4: to catch on, maybe with another team.
- 25:16Speaker 5: And I think.
- 25:17Speaker 2: I think he could be one of those Kirk Cousins
- 25:19Speaker 2: type of guys.
- 25:20Speaker 4: You know, he's got all the talent, just needs to
- 25:22Speaker 4: get out of I remember we talked about it at
- 25:24Speaker 4: the time when he got drafted where whatever, going back
- 25:27Speaker 4: to his high school stats, like the kid had lost
- 25:29Speaker 4: like one game ever, I think, and right then he arrives.
- 25:31Speaker 5: In Jacksonville and it's it's been a whole lot of
- 25:33Speaker 5: losing for him. But yeah, so talented. Oh I still
- 25:36Speaker 5: like him.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I still like him, But I like Drake may too,
- 25:40Speaker 2: and I'm happy we.
- 25:41Speaker 6: Have Liam Cone is thirteenth on this I think it was.
- 25:44Speaker 3: That was the one that really stood out. That was
- 25:46Speaker 3: got Beatle and I because he's a you mask guy.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Beadle's a U Mass guy, and he's like, no, we'll
- 25:52Speaker 3: go that's absurd. That's absurd that he is. He is
- 25:55Speaker 3: that high in the list. That was the one that
- 25:57Speaker 3: really stuck on because.
- 25:57Speaker 6: Liam Cone is high, Dave Canalis was high. I thought
- 26:00Speaker 6: Canals they had who was the other one that that
- 26:04Speaker 6: stood out to me, like Chip Kelly hasn't coached in
- 26:07Speaker 6: the NFL and quite a bit of time, but he's down.
- 26:10Speaker 5: And yeah he's down to McDaniels.
- 26:12Speaker 3: He was ahead of McDaniels, Dabel, it was it was
- 26:14Speaker 3: Chip Kelly, Dable, someone else, and I think McDaniels that
- 26:17Speaker 3: was like the group, and I thought those guys should
- 26:20Speaker 3: have been ahead of, like Dave Canalis, and they don't.
- 26:23Speaker 3: William Cohen but like Chip Kelly hasn't how tight and
- 26:26Speaker 3: Andy Reid's pants he's really tight.
- 26:28Speaker 5: He was like three. Well, Josh lost somes weight. He
- 26:31Speaker 5: can't really wear type pants. He's pants, they're too loose.
- 26:35Speaker 5: He used to be tight.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Adam and Louisiana writes in who do you think has
- 26:38Speaker 2: the better Patriots legacy as of today? Josh McDaniels or
- 26:41Speaker 2: Dante Scarnecia. I personally think Dante has it right now
- 26:44Speaker 2: because so much of McDaniel's success is tied to Brady.
- 26:47Speaker 2: But I think he could surpass Dante if he's successful
- 26:51Speaker 2: with May.
- 26:52Speaker 6: It's gonna be Hardtecarnek's hard.
- 26:54Speaker 5: He's kind of a legend, has lapped them. Yeah, he's
- 26:57Speaker 5: kind of a legend.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Yeah, he's definitely a legend for sure. Yeah, I mean
- 27:00Speaker 4: it's all Matthew Slater. Though Matthews Slater made.
- 27:04Speaker 3: What well it just from the second, like Daniels, you
- 27:11Speaker 3: imaginary co host that's sitting next.
- 27:13Speaker 5: To it's like dementia. Maybe it's early on set to
- 27:16Speaker 5: mention you know what it is. It's like I've been
- 27:20Speaker 5: doing like four days of vacation that I come in
- 27:22Speaker 5: for a couple of days. That's so I'm kind of like,
- 27:24Speaker 5: I feel like I'm half vacation deuce right now.
- 27:26Speaker 1: You know.
- 27:26Speaker 6: That's fine. Kellen Moore, like Jesus Keen.
- 27:30Speaker 4: Sorry, sorry, I will say though I noticed Dave Canalys
- 27:34Speaker 4: is getting a lot of love lately for some of
- 27:36Speaker 4: the changes I guess he implemented for Carolina last year
- 27:39Speaker 4: and kind of tailoring the offense more around Bryce.
- 27:42Speaker 3: The only thing I would say specifically with Canalis that
- 27:44Speaker 3: I'm impressed with is he did what we kept talking
- 27:48Speaker 3: about wanting to see from the Patriots last year and
- 27:52Speaker 3: in the second half of the season. You know, the
- 27:54Speaker 3: last quarter of the season, the Panthers became a difficult
- 27:57Speaker 3: team to play against, and they didn't win a lot
- 28:00Speaker 3: of games, but they were very competitive. They won a
- 28:02Speaker 3: couple they looked like they were getting better. That's what
- 28:07Speaker 3: we wanted to see. I'll give Canalis credit for that.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Navigating a difficult situation, having a bench your former number
- 28:12Speaker 3: one overall pick quarterback and then having him respond to
- 28:16Speaker 3: that tells me that he did it the right quote
- 28:18Speaker 3: unquote the right way.
- 28:19Speaker 5: Those things can go on.
- 28:20Speaker 6: I just have a tough time with guys like Canalis
- 28:22Speaker 6: and Cone specifically because they're not running their own system
- 28:26Speaker 6: like they're running Bruce Arians's offense, which was in Tampa
- 28:30Speaker 6: Bay McDaniel and there's there's a reason why Baker Mayfield
- 28:36Speaker 6: has transitioned offensive coordinators like three times now in the
- 28:40Speaker 6: last like five years, four years, and it's been seamless
- 28:43Speaker 6: because they're all running the same playbook. So it's like,
- 28:47Speaker 6: you know, and look, I know every coordinator has his
- 28:50Speaker 6: own twist on things and things like that, but like
- 28:52Speaker 6: we're not really talking about you know, guys that are
- 28:56Speaker 6: truly like Andy Reid or Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay.
- 29:00Speaker 6: Those guys have really run their own offense like they
- 29:04Speaker 6: they are really you know, they're all offshoots of the
- 29:07Speaker 6: West Coast, but like they run their own offense. You know,
- 29:10Speaker 6: these guys are picking up where other people have left off.
- 29:13Speaker 6: So it's like, I can't. I have a tough time
- 29:16Speaker 6: with that. You know, Josh like did the same thing,
- 29:18Speaker 6: but John's been doing it for a really long time.
- 29:20Speaker 6: So like, is it really the Charlie Weiss offense at
- 29:23Speaker 6: this point? Like probably not.
- 29:26Speaker 5: Call things the same. Yeah, yeah, we go back to
- 29:29Speaker 5: Dante real quick.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Though.
- 29:31Speaker 4: My joke aside, like that to me is what we
- 29:34Speaker 4: give a lot. I think we devalue coaches a lot.
- 29:37Speaker 5: Like we're always talking it's all the players, and.
- 29:38Speaker 4: I know football, but you know, I think coaches generally
- 29:41Speaker 4: get devalued. He's one though that even going back to
- 29:44Speaker 4: when he was first here in the eighty five team,
- 29:46Speaker 4: which you know, I'm doing a thing on right now,
- 29:48Speaker 4: but like his unit was outstanding.
- 29:50Speaker 5: His unit, they make game changing plays.
- 29:52Speaker 4: And granted he's only coaching a position group, so it's
- 29:55Speaker 4: a little bit hard, a little bit easier, I would say,
- 29:57Speaker 4: but you guys saw it. No no matter who he had,
- 30:01Speaker 4: he could put performances out of players, you know, and
- 30:04Speaker 4: again like it's not you're not a whole team, you're
- 30:06Speaker 4: not building the team, but he.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Could get everybody up to a functional level. He could
- 30:10Speaker 5: get anybody to a functional level. He could develop guys,
- 30:12Speaker 5: and he did it consistently.
- 30:14Speaker 4: And I think that's what we all look for in
- 30:16Speaker 4: our coaches that you know, have been around.
- 30:18Speaker 5: It's just get the most out of your guys. And
- 30:20Speaker 5: that's something that whether.
- 30:21Speaker 4: He was coaching special teams, which we were coaching tight ends,
- 30:24Speaker 4: Dante Scarneckia has done it in this league.
- 30:26Speaker 5: He was a guy.
- 30:27Speaker 2: We've heard it enough from enough players that you wanted
- 30:30Speaker 2: to do well for him, like you didn't want to
- 30:33Speaker 2: let him down, like and so whatever he did to
- 30:36Speaker 2: get people to feel.
- 30:37Speaker 5: That way, it worked. Yeah, you know hard, I just
- 30:40Speaker 5: didn't want to let him down demanding hard. I mean,
- 30:43Speaker 5: the all the stories from those linemen, but they knew
- 30:45Speaker 5: he cared about them. Yeah, yeah, you know. Now he's
- 30:48Speaker 5: a he's a special guy. I mean, I got to
- 30:50Speaker 5: interview him for that.
- 30:50Speaker 4: If I think it's the first time I talked to
- 30:52Speaker 4: him a little bit while he was here, when he
- 30:53Speaker 4: was you know, coaching and various coaching, you know, when
- 30:56Speaker 4: we have the opportunity for availability. But it was the
- 30:59Speaker 4: first time I had just a real conversation with him
- 31:00Speaker 4: and I shared with him that in ninety one, when
- 31:03Speaker 4: I was at Hollison High School, I was on the sideline,
- 31:05Speaker 4: you know, our community cable access channel. I got to
- 31:07Speaker 4: be the cameraman with like a three quarter deck and
- 31:09Speaker 4: the game I was there against.
- 31:10Speaker 5: New Orleans in ninety one was the game that Dick Macpherson.
- 31:13Speaker 4: I think, was sick and he took a scar had
- 31:15Speaker 4: to fill in. And I said, you know, Scars, just
- 31:17Speaker 4: to let you know I was on the sidelines.
- 31:18Speaker 5: When you need you know, all that's very special, but
- 31:20Speaker 5: just such a great guy. I mean you could just
- 31:22Speaker 5: tell why.
- 31:22Speaker 2: It was funny you were on the sideline and I
- 31:24Speaker 2: was watching that game in the stand.
- 31:26Speaker 5: No, really, that was there. I mean that was like,
- 31:29Speaker 5: that's how stupid it was.
- 31:30Speaker 4: When I started being in the video communications class at
- 31:33Speaker 4: my high school, I would do the sideline cam for
- 31:35Speaker 4: the football games and they were like, I remember the director,
- 31:38Speaker 4: the guy the teacher.
- 31:38Speaker 6: Was like, oh my god, look at how steady this
- 31:40Speaker 6: kid is.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Like, you know, like watching that, I love being shooting football.
- 31:44Speaker 4: And then there was a guy, Timmy King in town
- 31:46Speaker 4: who had his own cable access show and he was
- 31:47Speaker 4: like the Patriots of have credentialed me, I need a
- 31:50Speaker 4: cameraman who's good with a handheld and so, and this
- 31:52Speaker 4: is back in the day a three quarter inch deck,
- 31:54Speaker 4: So you had a three quarter inch deck. The thing,
- 31:56Speaker 4: of course, it was like the video cameras now are
- 31:58Speaker 4: like you could shoot the whole thing.
- 31:59Speaker 5: On your phone.
- 31:59Speaker 4: This was you had a deck with the giant ass
- 32:01Speaker 4: video three quarter deck with the camera and we were
- 32:05Speaker 4: walking around all the parking lots.
- 32:07Speaker 6: That was a year.
- 32:07Speaker 5: I think they won two games the whole year. Patriot
- 32:10Speaker 5: fans still just loving it, but went into the press box,
- 32:14Speaker 5: went into the locker room afterwards, interviewed Fred Smurlis, Vincent Brown.
- 32:17Speaker 4: It was my first taste of ever being around this stuff.
- 32:19Speaker 4: So yeah, that's cool, cool, take cool memory.
- 32:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 3: That was really the only time that I was ever
- 32:24Speaker 3: out on the Patriots, like ninety when they went one
- 32:28Speaker 3: in fifteen with Rod Rust and they were just such
- 32:31Speaker 3: a train wreck and they would even worse off the field,
- 32:35Speaker 3: and then McPherson came in and I was like, that's
- 32:38Speaker 3: not going to like, that's not the guy, Like, it's
- 32:40Speaker 3: not gonna work. And they were a little bit better
- 32:43Speaker 3: that ninety one season. I think they won like five
- 32:45Speaker 3: games or six games or something like that, and then
- 32:48Speaker 3: they bottomed out again at two and fourteen, and then
- 32:51Speaker 3: like that three year period was the only time I
- 32:53Speaker 3: was ever really out on the Patriots. Then they hired
- 32:55Speaker 3: Parcels and I was.
- 32:56Speaker 5: Back right, I'm back, baby, out right in line.
- 32:59Speaker 6: I think there's a real case in my mind for
- 33:01Speaker 6: Dante being in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as
- 33:04Speaker 6: like a contributor to the game.
- 33:05Speaker 5: I would agree.
- 33:06Speaker 6: I think he's the best positional coach of all time.
- 33:09Speaker 6: So like, I think there's a real case for that.
- 33:12Speaker 6: I mean, he's.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Best positional coach of all time.
- 33:15Speaker 6: Of all time. I think he's the best of it
- 33:17Speaker 6: of all time. Is definitely I would make an argument
- 33:22Speaker 6: for Dante. Yeah, definitely, you know, the best offensive line
- 33:26Speaker 6: coach of all time. And I think that's the hardest
- 33:28Speaker 6: position to coach because you have the most guys to coach,
- 33:30Speaker 6: and it's you know, five man unit that you're coaching,
- 33:33Speaker 6: and so you have to have everybody, uh, you know,
- 33:36Speaker 6: working together. It's not like your coaching receivers is like
- 33:38Speaker 6: in an individual position, right, you know, the offensive line
- 33:42Speaker 6: it's the weakest link in that whole thing. Like you
- 33:44Speaker 6: have to be together as a group. And I think
- 33:47Speaker 6: he's the best it's ever done it, you know, from
- 33:50Speaker 6: player development to also in game you know, getting everybody,
- 33:53Speaker 6: all five guys to execute and on the same page.
- 33:55Speaker 6: So he's, uh, he's the best ever in my opinion.
- 34:00Speaker 4: And Rod Rust And that was a story that I
- 34:02Speaker 4: just rediscovered was Rod Rust was fired midway through the
- 34:05Speaker 4: eighty four season, and then they went back and rehired
- 34:08Speaker 4: him as the defensive coordinator, and all the players of
- 34:11Speaker 4: that eighty five team love Rod Rust. I mean that
- 34:13Speaker 4: defense was excellent. He was an excellent defensive coordinator. But
- 34:17Speaker 4: all I think of him defensive genius. Yeah, they were
- 34:20Speaker 4: all so excited to get him back. I just think
- 34:23Speaker 4: of him, as you said, Paul, as that coach of
- 34:25Speaker 4: a really failed team, and who was that guy who
- 34:27Speaker 4: was terrible? And then you go back and you realize, like,
- 34:30Speaker 4: this guy's like the Rex Ryan of his day.
- 34:33Speaker 5: That's the thing.
- 34:33Speaker 2: You know, we kind of make fun of the NFL
- 34:36Speaker 2: a lot because it seems like they just rotate coaches through.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Once you have a job, you always have a job.
- 34:41Speaker 2: But we don't know and this gets to the you know,
- 34:44Speaker 2: we only know the Patriots some of these guys that
- 34:47Speaker 2: are cycling through are really good coaches. And that's why,
- 34:51Speaker 2: you know, it was a new coach comes in and
- 34:53Speaker 2: I want Rod Russ because as a positional coach, they
- 34:58Speaker 2: are really good, you know, and as fans, we just
- 35:01Speaker 2: don't know that, right.
- 35:03Speaker 4: I mean, the truth of is he coordinated one of
- 35:05Speaker 4: the best Patriots defenses of all time. So you know,
- 35:07Speaker 4: it's that's something that's lost in perspective. And you just
- 35:11Speaker 4: remember those terrible years in the early nineties when they
- 35:13Speaker 4: could barely win a game.
- 35:16Speaker 5: But hey, we're here, now we're back.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah, got through the last and you know, these gms,
- 35:21Speaker 2: they know the truth. It's like, yeah, that team had
- 35:24Speaker 2: no talent, that's why they didn't do well.
- 35:27Speaker 5: It wasn't Rod Rust you know what I mean.
- 35:29Speaker 2: The GMS know the truth, or they should know that.
- 35:33Speaker 6: They bring back good ones to Josh. It's just like
- 35:35Speaker 6: certain guys are just better in those roles than as
- 35:38Speaker 6: the head coach. McDaniels is just a better offensive coordinator
- 35:41Speaker 6: than the head coach. And I remember when I wrote
- 35:43Speaker 6: about what Dante about, you know, going to the Patriots
- 35:47Speaker 6: Hall of Fame, I was like, why you never wanted
- 35:49Speaker 6: to like go higher up the ranks, like you know,
- 35:52Speaker 6: offensive coordinator or head coach or or anything like that.
- 35:55Speaker 6: And he was like, I was really really good at
- 35:57Speaker 6: what I did well.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Dick Lebow is the most famous one. I think he
- 36:01Speaker 2: could have been a head coach if he really wanted to.
- 36:03Speaker 5: But he knew he was. He knew well he was,
- 36:06Speaker 5: but he didn't. He didn't. It didn't work. Yeah, but
- 36:08Speaker 5: he was. He was a head coach, yeah, but he
- 36:11Speaker 5: was a coordinator. That was what he was.
- 36:12Speaker 3: There's a lot of guys like that that just they
- 36:15Speaker 3: were better suited. Maybe they didn't have the Ernie Zampizzi
- 36:19Speaker 3: that the gravitas to sort of command the entirety of
- 36:23Speaker 3: the team and didn't necessarily have that kind of a touch.
- 36:27Speaker 6: And I think Josh is one of those guys.
- 36:28Speaker 5: I don't.
- 36:29Speaker 3: I just don't think it worked because he lost both teams.
- 36:32Speaker 5: Yeah, he lost.
- 36:33Speaker 3: He lost the Broncos and he lost the Raiders. So
- 36:36Speaker 3: it just that's not a coincidence, right. Some guys are
- 36:39Speaker 3: just better suited.
- 36:40Speaker 2: And I think Dante, like he took over in a pinch,
- 36:43Speaker 2: but I don't think he ever had head coach aspirational
- 36:46Speaker 2: that's what Devin.
- 36:46Speaker 6: Just said no, no, at least that's what he told me.
- 36:49Speaker 6: And he just said that you know, when you're you
- 36:52Speaker 6: want he just wanted to master the craft of where
- 36:55Speaker 6: he was at and he didn't want to he didn't
- 36:58Speaker 6: even want to be a coordinator. Yeah, it's kind of
- 36:59Speaker 6: like an he almost like he didn't want to get
- 37:01Speaker 6: too big for his bridges type of thing too, Like
- 37:03Speaker 6: he just he wanted to stay in his lane like
- 37:05Speaker 6: and I think that that's why, you know, talking to him,
- 37:08Speaker 6: like he just loved coaching under Bill, because like Belichick
- 37:12Speaker 6: just well it was perfect for Dante, Like he just
- 37:15Speaker 6: allowed Dante to be Dante and his in Dante's Inferno,
- 37:19Speaker 6: and he didn't have like it wasn't he wasn't bothered,
- 37:22Speaker 6: and it wasn't like you know, he wasn't asked to
- 37:24Speaker 6: do things that were outside of his comfort zone. And
- 37:27Speaker 6: he just thrived with that kind of kind of coach
- 37:30Speaker 6: to be able to do that.
- 37:32Speaker 4: So I mean that's you know, to he survived the
- 37:35Speaker 4: regime change in the early nineties.
- 37:36Speaker 5: I mean Bill Parcels was like, I have a job
- 37:38Speaker 5: for you. This is what it is.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Take it or leave it, and Dante stuck around but
- 37:43Speaker 4: I mean he's just, like I said, the ability to
- 37:46Speaker 4: bring players up along and even players you know, like
- 37:49Speaker 4: like Matt Lighte for you know who maybe wasn't like
- 37:51Speaker 4: the greatest left but played at a championship level and
- 37:54Speaker 4: you know, contributed to those teams.
- 37:56Speaker 6: Yep, been a good good run for Dante, all right.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Eight five Pat's five hundred is the Hotline podcast at
- 38:03Speaker 2: Patriots dot com. Is the email address. If you want
- 38:07Speaker 2: to sign up for the newsletter, you can do so
- 38:10Speaker 2: at Patriots dot com slash pu Newsletter. We do have
- 38:13Speaker 2: a fourth of July edition coming out this week, some
- 38:16Speaker 2: good stuff in it. If you missed, uh, Paul's savant
- 38:20Speaker 2: exhibition yesterday, you'd be able to catch the replay of
- 38:24Speaker 2: that in the newsletter.
- 38:26Speaker 5: Oh yeah, Paul show off. It wasn't really anything. It
- 38:31Speaker 5: was something Paul, come on.
- 38:32Speaker 6: Really.
- 38:34Speaker 5: There was a number.
- 38:35Speaker 2: No, there was a caller that that he wanted to
- 38:38Speaker 2: test Paul's numbers dollarge and he went was twenty guys
- 38:42Speaker 2: ranging from the seventies to and Paul got the only one.
- 38:46Speaker 5: I think we missed.
- 38:47Speaker 6: There was an offensive lineman.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Yeah, wallabah, I think it was sixty.
- 38:51Speaker 5: I thought it was it was sixty four, but I
- 38:53Speaker 5: don't remember anyway.
- 38:54Speaker 6: I would be like, can you can you even do
- 38:56Speaker 6: it now? Like I feel like you're even Miles Battle?
- 39:01Speaker 5: No, can I do it now?
- 39:03Speaker 6: Yeah? That's the ironic part about it.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I think if you if you grilled me on like
- 39:08Speaker 3: guys that played from twenty ten on, I bet you
- 39:10Speaker 3: I would get a couple wrong.
- 39:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Miles Battle, it's the other ones that are thirty.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Five brain Yeah yeah, all right, but again, you can
- 39:20Speaker 2: catch that in the newsletter you sign up by going
- 39:22Speaker 2: to Patriots dot com slash pu newsletter. It's a fun
- 39:26Speaker 2: thing to get and it's just for us people in
- 39:30Speaker 2: the community. It's just yeah, so it's just inside jokes,
- 39:33Speaker 2: you know that type of stuff. All right, let's let's
- 39:36Speaker 2: hit up the phones. People joining us on the eve
- 39:39Speaker 2: of the fourth of July. Wherever you wame. Uh, Nate's
- 39:46Speaker 2: in Connecticut. What's up, Nate?
- 39:48Speaker 9: Hey you guys?
- 39:49Speaker 5: You we will yep.
- 39:51Speaker 9: Okay. So I just had a couple of thoughts.
- 39:53Speaker 10: On Marcella's styles. I personally think he is not going
- 39:57Speaker 10: to make the team this year. You know, he didn't
- 40:00Speaker 10: really play that much in the corner bedroom, but he
- 40:04Speaker 10: was on special teams a lot. But I think with
- 40:06Speaker 10: a lot of the people we've drafted and the udfas,
- 40:10Speaker 10: I think other people are going to be taking that spot,
- 40:12Speaker 10: and I think Marcellus Dial is gonna find his way out.
- 40:16Speaker 10: He really hasn't done a lot. I mean, we saw
- 40:19Speaker 10: we saw him play and like you know, preseason, and
- 40:22Speaker 10: I think he looked all right, but he just didn't
- 40:25Speaker 10: have the strongest of his year and I don't think
- 40:27Speaker 10: he's gonna make it this year.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Now, why are you particularly concerned with Marcella's style?
- 40:34Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 40:35Speaker 10: I feel like we've had other people step up, like
- 40:39Speaker 10: I know, like Isaiah Boldens.
- 40:41Speaker 2: No, no, no, But but my question like, nay, why
- 40:43Speaker 2: why is he on your mind? Why why Marcella's Dial
- 40:47Speaker 2: and some other guy and not some other guy?
- 40:50Speaker 10: Well, we have we haven't really talked a lot about
- 40:53Speaker 10: Marcellus dis.
- 40:55Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a reason.
- 40:59Speaker 6: Him and Isaiah Ball didn't feel like two guys that
- 41:01Speaker 6: are both trying to stick on Thanks Day, I could
- 41:06Speaker 6: see only one of them making it. And right now
- 41:09Speaker 6: I probably lean a little bit towards Bolden just because
- 41:11Speaker 6: he's got a little bit more versatility on defense and
- 41:15Speaker 6: special team.
- 41:16Speaker 3: I've seen him play more defensive snaps in my mind
- 41:19Speaker 3: than I have Dial, But I don't know.
- 41:22Speaker 6: They're using Dial a little bit in the slot, which
- 41:24Speaker 6: I could see, you know, as a bigger slot, but
- 41:26Speaker 6: Bolden can kind of do the same thing, and then
- 41:28Speaker 6: Bolden can return kicks and cover kicks and special teams
- 41:31Speaker 6: with Dial is not going to do that. So the
- 41:34Speaker 6: coaches are pretty high on Dial. And it's the same
- 41:36Speaker 6: coaching staff on special teams with Springer coming back and
- 41:39Speaker 6: Tom Quinn. But they are pretty high of what my
- 41:41Speaker 6: Marcella's Dial did on special teams. But he's not a returner,
- 41:45Speaker 6: he's just covering kicks.
- 41:46Speaker 5: And I don't think that they really.
- 41:50Speaker 3: I can totally see a scenario where Bolden and Dial
- 41:53Speaker 3: are in or out or one or the other. Like
- 41:56Speaker 3: I totally see that. But like there's really been not
- 41:59Speaker 3: much changed of that depth. That they replaced Jonathan Jones
- 42:02Speaker 3: with Carlton Davis, right, So that's the starter, first starter,
- 42:06Speaker 3: you know, next to Gonzo. Marcus Jones is still there,
- 42:09Speaker 3: Alex Austin is still there.
- 42:11Speaker 5: After those four, those four.
- 42:13Speaker 3: You can you can definitely sell me on any of
- 42:16Speaker 3: those other guys.
- 42:17Speaker 5: But like they didn't.
- 42:18Speaker 3: I mean Kobe Myer, I guess, Miles Battle, DJ James.
- 42:24Speaker 6: Brandon Crossley showing off his big brain. Now, I mean
- 42:29Speaker 6: it's like those guys the UDFA is like that, that's
- 42:32Speaker 6: the list.
- 42:32Speaker 5: I mean, then those guys are third day three flyers.
- 42:36Speaker 3: And I didn't see any of those guys in the spring, like,
- 42:39Speaker 3: oh wow, look at him.
- 42:41Speaker 5: You know DJ James, Did I get that right?
- 42:45Speaker 3: J James is out there with with Gonzo. I didn't
- 42:48Speaker 3: see any of the like I saw that with with
- 42:50Speaker 3: you know, once upon a time with Malcolm Butler. All
- 42:54Speaker 3: of a sudden, some random U d f A is
- 42:56Speaker 3: out there with the regular players, and you're like, oh,
- 42:58Speaker 3: we got to keep an eye on this, right, I mean,
- 42:59Speaker 3: it's it. I didn't see that really in the supre.
- 43:01Speaker 2: My days of getting excited over you the fas and
- 43:04Speaker 2: seventh round picks are over.
- 43:05Speaker 5: I used to get excited about them. But now it's
- 43:08Speaker 5: like now if they have come a long way. Now,
- 43:10Speaker 5: if they if they happen, they have happened right right,
- 43:13Speaker 5: And that's what you would hope after Alex Austin that,
- 43:16Speaker 5: you know, and Alex Austin was kind of one of
- 43:18Speaker 5: those guys a couple of years ago. I mean, I
- 43:19Speaker 5: think it traded for him at some point, But you.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Just hope maybe one of those guys emerges and is
- 43:24Speaker 4: able to I mean, Isaiah Bolden's got some good size dials, fast,
- 43:28Speaker 4: Kobie miners fast, They're all fast. But I don't know
- 43:31Speaker 4: those are bottom of the depth chart kind of battles
- 43:33Speaker 4: that guys are gonna win on Teams Special, you know,
- 43:35Speaker 4: And if one of those guys happens to emerge and
- 43:37Speaker 4: suddenly is getting reps with Gonzo, that.
- 43:42Speaker 6: Feels pretty secure. The other spots are going to be
- 43:45Speaker 6: determined by who can cover kicks, like and I don't
- 43:49Speaker 6: really feel like they need to keep six of these guys, Like,
- 43:52Speaker 6: I don't think that room is particularly deep in that regard.
- 43:55Speaker 6: I just think it's so top heavy that you know
- 43:57Speaker 6: that Gonzales and Davis are to be playing a ridiculous
- 44:01Speaker 6: amount of snaps for you next year, so behind you
- 44:04Speaker 6: is really special teams.
- 44:05Speaker 5: It's just it might be a problem, you know, like
- 44:07Speaker 5: like a Gonzo gets hurt or Carlton Davis gets hurts,
- 44:09Speaker 5: like one you might have to rely on one of
- 44:11Speaker 5: these guys that right now.
- 44:12Speaker 6: I have some faith in alex Osino.
- 44:16Speaker 4: There's four and you need three at least full time,
- 44:20Speaker 4: so you have a little bit of protection there, but
- 44:21Speaker 4: it goes downhill pretty quick.
- 44:23Speaker 5: Matt's in New Hampshire.
- 44:24Speaker 12: Hey Matt, Hey, you guys hear me? Okay, yes, perfect,
- 44:31Speaker 12: I've st a question. We've talked about this at nauseum before.
- 44:35Speaker 12: Before I get to it, I just want to congratulate
- 44:37Speaker 12: you Evan on getting married.
- 44:39Speaker 13: Thank you of course.
- 44:43Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 44:43Speaker 14: Just uh, just with the guard the left guard position.
- 44:45Speaker 14: Like I said, it's been talked about so much, like
- 44:47Speaker 14: if you guys have this pick right now, who's your
- 44:50Speaker 14: day one starter there? I know the options aren't great
- 44:53Speaker 14: if I had to pick, and it's probably the Cold
- 44:55Speaker 14: Strange at this point. Or is there a betteran out
- 44:58Speaker 14: there at free agent that you guys think.
- 45:01Speaker 5: I don't know about a free agent. That's tough to say.
- 45:04Speaker 5: I probably with you on Cold Strange. That feels strong.
- 45:07Speaker 6: I would probably lean Strange as well.
- 45:10Speaker 3: But I want to see when they start training camp
- 45:13Speaker 3: what Jared Wilson's doing.
- 45:14Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm holding out hope that either Jared
- 45:18Speaker 6: Wilson or Kaden Wallace, one of those two guys, whether
- 45:21Speaker 6: it's Wilson at center or guard, it takes over and
- 45:24Speaker 6: kind of improves that interior. Just with younger players that
- 45:28Speaker 6: you're a little bit more. I don't know if it's
- 45:31Speaker 6: just the unknown of what they really are versus Cole
- 45:33Speaker 6: Strange what I kind of just feel like we know
- 45:36Speaker 6: that Cole Strange is just is who he is. Whereas
- 45:39Speaker 6: those other guys, I think there's maybe still some development
- 45:41Speaker 6: to do and still some upside that exists with them,
- 45:44Speaker 6: especially Jared Wilson. Brandon Shurff's a free agent, which is interesting,
- 45:48Speaker 6: but career right guard, not not a left guard. But
- 45:52Speaker 6: if he was kicking around and we're two weeks into
- 45:55Speaker 6: training camp and they look at it and they're like
- 45:57Speaker 6: each like, this is gonna this isn't going well. You
- 46:00Speaker 6: know this, this left guard by committee is not working out.
- 46:04Speaker 6: I would could see Brendon Sheriff coming in and still
- 46:07Speaker 6: being the respectable starter, but you'd have to be a
- 46:11Speaker 6: want to play and be want to play at left guard.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Still available now and he must be done like dinner.
- 46:17Speaker 3: I would say, good, that's a good player to be available.
- 46:20Speaker 6: Yeah, but it could also have to do you know,
- 46:23Speaker 6: a lot of those types of veterans don't really want
- 46:25Speaker 6: to do training camp, so like they tend to sign
- 46:27Speaker 6: like two weeks into camp and like kind of skip
- 46:30Speaker 6: the dog days of training camp in the beginning and
- 46:32Speaker 6: then get into it once the preseason game start. You
- 46:36Speaker 6: see that, Like if you if you see Brendon Sheriff
- 46:38Speaker 6: sign like right around where Zeke Elliott signed with the
- 46:41Speaker 6: Patriots a couple of years ago, like that would be
- 46:43Speaker 6: sort of the sweet spot for somebody like that.
- 46:46Speaker 5: Thanks, Matt, appreciate the call.
- 46:47Speaker 3: In my mind, I just got validated done.
- 46:50Speaker 5: Like dinnerd.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Deshaun's in North Dakota. We don't get a lot of
- 46:55Speaker 2: callers from North Dakota.
- 46:56Speaker 1: North.
- 46:57Speaker 5: What's up to.
- 46:57Speaker 13: Sean No, No, no, Virginia, I think.
- 47:02Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, uh, what's.
- 47:10Speaker 13: Up guys, Jeremy.
- 47:14Speaker 5: Yeah, happy for the.
- 47:16Speaker 13: Yes uh based I want to touch based on what
- 47:19Speaker 13: you guys gonna saying before about the Tom Brady things,
- 47:21Speaker 13: and I think it was interesting because it's some of
- 47:23Speaker 13: the things they've been saying for the longest time. The
- 47:25Speaker 13: reason why I always thought that Brady fits uh bra
- 47:28Speaker 13: bradyserveralized their credits because we would have to take into
- 47:30Speaker 13: account is that you can't expect this team to have that,
- 47:34Speaker 13: you know that what or machine like it did back
- 47:37Speaker 13: in the day because the centerpiece is Tom Brady. Darn
- 47:40Speaker 13: Brady's made the best of the situation, situation, no matter
- 47:44Speaker 13: who was around him, you know.
- 47:46Speaker 14: Uh.
- 47:47Speaker 13: And then most people seen once he ever got a
- 47:49Speaker 13: four like Brandy Moss, he took off. And I've been
- 47:51Speaker 13: saying that that, please give him a real weapon, get
- 47:54Speaker 13: him a real weapon. There's something that other quarterbacks disposed,
- 47:57Speaker 13: he has faced over the years that building the benefit
- 47:59Speaker 13: from and now you're complisces nowhere near as much together
- 48:03Speaker 13: accomplished despite him dealing with the left. So when you
- 48:06Speaker 13: talking about organizations and you know in situations like the
- 48:11Speaker 13: forty nine ers and Sin Study Bengals or whatever, uh, yes,
- 48:14Speaker 13: a lot of it have to do a lot of
- 48:15Speaker 13: their personnel or whatever. But the reason why as far
- 48:19Speaker 13: with the port now can't maximize it because they don't
- 48:21Speaker 13: have number twelve turns water. He throws water into wine. Yeah,
- 48:27Speaker 13: that reason why we felt like we should not take
- 48:29Speaker 13: this for granted because it's something we're never going to
- 48:31Speaker 13: see again. Deb I always thinking that, So it should
- 48:34Speaker 13: be very important for them to get weapons for Drake
- 48:38Speaker 13: Maine yes, because he's not gonna be to do what
- 48:40Speaker 13: Tom is done. Yep, that's all I wanted to say.
- 48:43Speaker 5: I agreed to Sean.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I mean, you gotta get them weapons, you need, you
- 48:46Speaker 2: need to build around them. And I think I think
- 48:49Speaker 2: next year, unfortunately, you know, I think this year all
- 48:53Speaker 2: the big names are out, but I think next year
- 48:54Speaker 2: that will be the focus, regardless of what happens this year,
- 48:58Speaker 2: that we've got to get some off the weapons on
- 49:00Speaker 2: this team. But I think, you know, I think I
- 49:04Speaker 2: like the addition of Henderson as running back. I know
- 49:08Speaker 2: he's a running back, but I think he I'm hoping
- 49:11Speaker 2: he will be a weapon.
- 49:14Speaker 5: For this team. Me too. There's a lot who's a weapon.
- 49:17Speaker 5: Henderson he should be. I hope he will be.
- 49:20Speaker 6: Were you doing the weapon debate again?
- 49:22Speaker 3: No, No, I think if if if he turns out,
- 49:25Speaker 3: that's a weapon. If he if he pans out, I
- 49:27Speaker 3: would say that he qualifies as a weapon.
- 49:29Speaker 5: He's a big play candidate. Yeah.
- 49:31Speaker 6: I don't necessarily disagree with to caller, but like, it's
- 49:34Speaker 6: just kind of disrespectful to just be like everybody that
- 49:37Speaker 6: played with Brady was just because of Brady, like or
- 49:40Speaker 6: everybody that coached on with Brady. Was here was just
- 49:42Speaker 6: because of Brady? Like, well, no, but I think I mean,
- 49:45Speaker 6: Rob Gronkowski is a pretty good player.
- 49:47Speaker 5: The other way they had to get they had to
- 49:49Speaker 5: go out and get the.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Weapons to get Brady to go to he had already
- 49:53Speaker 3: won three titles. I think it's disrespectful to Brady.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Well, it's not him to another level, it's the offense
- 49:58Speaker 2: to another level.
- 49:59Speaker 6: I think he like Brady's Brady, we all have all
- 50:03Speaker 6: the respect in the world for him, But like he
- 50:05Speaker 6: played with some really good players too, And let's not
- 50:07Speaker 6: just like sit here and be like, okay, all the okay,
- 50:10Speaker 6: every all those players stunk, Like stunk.
- 50:13Speaker 5: Is strong, but like you play with a lot of
- 50:15Speaker 5: average guys. Did he make Welker better?
- 50:17Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, but I think we better than.
- 50:20Speaker 5: He would have been on any other team. Yep.
- 50:22Speaker 6: I don't know about any other team, but.
- 50:24Speaker 3: I mean I think you could make an argument for
- 50:27Speaker 3: you know, like Gronk would have been great no matter what,
- 50:30Speaker 3: Like that's a special player.
- 50:32Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, obviously Moss, but.
- 50:34Speaker 3: There's a lot of guys that were good players that
- 50:37Speaker 3: he made look better than good.
- 50:38Speaker 6: I think so maybe at the receiver position, but like
- 50:40Speaker 6: some of those like they had great offensive line.
- 50:42Speaker 5: That's where his influences.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Oh, I mean, I want you want to go back
- 50:45Speaker 3: to Dante, and the most most impressive thing to me
- 50:47Speaker 3: about Dante is a litany of Greg Robinson, Randall, Brandon Goren,
- 50:53Speaker 3: Tom Ashworth, Nick Kasher like didn't matter. Yeah, Now, part
- 50:59Speaker 3: of why it didn't matter was Brady. Yeah, I do
- 51:02Speaker 3: give Brady a lot. Evan's probably right, maybe I give
- 51:05Speaker 3: too much, But I think if Brady and Dante were,
- 51:12Speaker 3: you know, in their prime for last year's team, you
- 51:15Speaker 3: wouldn't be talking about that offensive line the way you did.
- 51:18Speaker 5: That's how good they were. That's right. I don't know.
- 51:20Speaker 6: I'm not trying to like say, like do like a
- 51:25Speaker 6: a pie here of like who gets all the credit?
- 51:29Speaker 5: Brady not that good.
- 51:30Speaker 6: I'm just kind of giving everybody credit. So yeah, right,
- 51:33Speaker 6: I'm just kind of giving everybody credit. Like I think,
- 51:36Speaker 6: like both things can be true, right, Like there were
- 51:38Speaker 6: like like a lot of these guys were great. We're
- 51:41Speaker 6: really good players too. Like when you know, when I
- 51:43Speaker 6: started covering the team, especially you know, their offensive line,
- 51:47Speaker 6: like Tony Andrews and Mason in the interior, their offensive
- 51:50Speaker 6: line was one of the best interior three in football,
- 51:52Speaker 6: like regardless of Dante or not Dante like that, and
- 51:55Speaker 6: Tony is Is might be a Hall of Famer in
- 51:57Speaker 6: his own right, you know, Logan mankins Is.
- 52:00Speaker 2: The question is how many of those guys and there
- 52:04Speaker 2: are some how many of those guys could make a
- 52:07Speaker 2: quarterback better, because we're talking about a quarterback making those
- 52:11Speaker 2: guys better. How many of those guys make their quarterback well?
- 52:14Speaker 5: Sure?
- 52:14Speaker 6: But like yeah, I mean, like the quarterbacks the most
- 52:17Speaker 6: important position on the field, so like he's the most
- 52:19Speaker 6: valuable guy, like they that's true for pretty much any position.
- 52:22Speaker 6: But like I just I don't know, Like I look
- 52:25Speaker 6: at it and say, you know, there were some really
- 52:26Speaker 6: good players on those Like twenty ten's Patriots offense.
- 52:31Speaker 2: I think I don't think you do what they did
- 52:34Speaker 2: without some good players on your team.
- 52:36Speaker 6: I just feel like you made them better.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Now, Tony, Tony and Mason are two guys that were
- 52:41Speaker 3: really really good players. I think there's a lot more
- 52:44Speaker 3: Joe and Drewsys and Sally say Is than those guys.
- 52:47Speaker 3: I mean that they're starting inter Dan Conley, Russ Hokestein,
- 52:52Speaker 3: like Rich Ornberger.
- 52:54Speaker 6: Those are average two thousands, guys like from the like
- 52:58Speaker 6: Tuny and was like two ten, two thousand, But Mason
- 53:02Speaker 6: and drafted Mason and were really good fifteen and they
- 53:05Speaker 6: were they were the starters at their positions for the
- 53:08Speaker 6: rest of them run.
- 53:08Speaker 3: So maybe when he got a little older, he needed
- 53:10Speaker 3: a little bit more talent in front of him because
- 53:12Speaker 3: he couldn't do it all well. But that's not what
- 53:14Speaker 3: I'm saying. I just but that's twenty years of dominance.
- 53:17Speaker 3: And then they got two really good guards. Clearly, I
- 53:20Speaker 3: mean like there was a lot of floats of in jetsam,
- 53:24Speaker 3: flats and flats.
- 53:26Speaker 6: We can just have the worst offensive line in football
- 53:28Speaker 6: and watch the quarterback running for his with Brady, he
- 53:30Speaker 6: could fine.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Remember we got into the big argument about what flotsam
- 53:33Speaker 2: and jetsam is.
- 53:34Speaker 4: Yes, Eric, Eric used to admit that he was wrong
- 53:38Speaker 4: tossing stuff out of a plane, that's jetsam.
- 53:40Speaker 6: I'm sure Brady would have loved to play behind that
- 53:42Speaker 6: offensive line last year. That would have he really would
- 53:45Speaker 6: have been.
- 53:45Speaker 5: I'm just telling you it wouldn't have been a train wreck.
- 53:47Speaker 6: I think it was if Brady was in his prime, not.
- 53:49Speaker 3: Forty five year old Brady in Tampa where he was
- 53:51Speaker 3: taking dives everywhere. He wouldn't have been happy like thirty
- 53:55Speaker 3: five year old Brady would have been, would have been
- 53:58Speaker 3: like mahomes As, it would have been get by.
- 54:00Speaker 5: Well, we have to say that I get Evan's general
- 54:02Speaker 5: point that it's all Brady.
- 54:05Speaker 15: It was all Brady, and that he made everybody better
- 54:11Speaker 15: and he turned water into wine and all like all
- 54:14Speaker 15: these freaking things, But like, can we just not like
- 54:17Speaker 15: sit here and and and completely just.
- 54:19Speaker 6: Throw away everybody and just being product told you Rob Drunkowski,
- 54:28Speaker 6: Randy Moss.
- 54:30Speaker 5: I think Paul's being starcastic.
- 54:32Speaker 6: Like Brandon Cook's played with seventeen quarterbacks and he's good
- 54:35Speaker 6: with all of them.
- 54:36Speaker 3: Cooks was a higher caliber receiver than most of the
- 54:40Speaker 3: guys he played with.
- 54:41Speaker 5: I think he can do both things.
- 54:42Speaker 2: You can celebrate the greatness and brilliance of Tom Brady
- 54:46Speaker 2: and say, yeah, there were some good players on these teams.
- 54:49Speaker 5: Both can be true good players.
- 54:50Speaker 6: There were times he made look better than that, yeah maybe,
- 54:53Speaker 6: and there was absolute like I always go back to
- 54:56Speaker 6: the game winning drive against New Orleans in twenty thirteen.
- 55:00Speaker 6: He's throwing to Austin Colley and Kemberl Tompkins and you know,
- 55:03Speaker 6: the guy from Foxborough High and he marches right down
- 55:06Speaker 6: the field and wins the game like that. That is
- 55:08Speaker 6: water into wine, right, Like, that's what we're talking about.
- 55:11Speaker 6: But when he's out there in you know, sixteen seventeen
- 55:15Speaker 6: and he's he's got Gronk and he's got Edelman, and
- 55:18Speaker 6: he's got you know, a really good players around him,
- 55:21Speaker 6: good running backs, you know, James White, players like that, Like, okay,
- 55:24Speaker 6: then all of them stunk like I like, I guess
- 55:26Speaker 6: all of them stunk like I don't know.
- 55:28Speaker 3: I told you he keep saying Gronk, and I keep
- 55:31Speaker 3: telling you that Gronk would have been a Hall of
- 55:33Speaker 3: Fame caliber player regardless.
- 55:36Speaker 6: It's just like, all right, but I don't think.
- 55:38Speaker 5: Dean Branch was a Hall of Fame caliber player.
- 55:42Speaker 6: Good receiver.
- 55:43Speaker 3: He made him look better than he was. Troy Brown,
- 55:46Speaker 3: love you mean it made him look better than he was. Now,
- 55:48Speaker 3: Drew also made Troy Brown look better than he was,
- 55:51Speaker 3: but not like, not like Brady.
- 55:53Speaker 6: So he did it with Troy Brown. He became with Drew,
- 55:55Speaker 6: and he did it with Brady. But somehow both of
- 55:57Speaker 6: them made them.
- 55:57Speaker 5: Look he didn't Troy Brown didn't do what he did
- 56:00Speaker 5: with Brady That No, he didn't have the numbers.
- 56:03Speaker 3: He became a hundred catch guy with with David Patton,
- 56:06Speaker 3: David Gibbons on Branch like these guys you know called
- 56:10Speaker 3: well Jabbard, Gaffney, these guys were not great players. He
- 56:13Speaker 3: made them look a lot better. These are the guys
- 56:15Speaker 3: that were catching Brandon LaFell. He absolutely he's catching like game.
- 56:19Speaker 3: That doesn't mean that they're also, that doesn't mean that
- 56:21Speaker 3: they're all scrubs. I didn't say there was scrubs. I
- 56:24Speaker 3: said he they were good players that he made look better.
- 56:27Speaker 5: I just want That's what I said, not.
- 56:29Speaker 6: Have everybody some love but Brady.
- 56:31Speaker 4: And that's like how many teams go twenty years and
- 56:33Speaker 4: they just have Hall of famers up and down the line.
- 56:38Speaker 3: Like like, well, Peyton Manning made Austin Caley the guy
- 56:41Speaker 3: you just dismissed. That's that's what Peyton Manning did. Yes,
- 56:44Speaker 3: he had he had Harrison and Wayne and a lot
- 56:47Speaker 3: of other cracks.
- 56:48Speaker 6: About Clark, stiff, Drin James.
- 56:52Speaker 3: Edrin James was stick Dallas Clark Like that's another example
- 56:57Speaker 3: of the quarterback. And by the way, the quarter and
- 56:59Speaker 3: he's got to marry time and he did the same
- 57:01Speaker 3: thing with Welker. What do you mean, come on, don't
- 57:06Speaker 3: be good player? Not not Marvin Harrison, not not like Harrison,
- 57:13Speaker 3: Pierre Garson.
- 57:15Speaker 6: If you're going to sit here and say that that
- 57:19Speaker 6: and Marius Thomas like it would have been one of
- 57:21Speaker 6: Brady's best receivers. Like, if you're going to like go there.
- 57:24Speaker 5: I agree.
- 57:25Speaker 6: So then when we're talking to him making my point, no,
- 57:27Speaker 6: I just when you go to Peyton like it, just
- 57:29Speaker 6: that that's a whole separate because.
- 57:31Speaker 3: We can't look at these things and for a lens
- 57:35Speaker 3: of something that might give somebody else credit.
- 57:37Speaker 2: When it just comes to football, IQ. Peyton had every
- 57:41Speaker 2: much of it that Brady had.
- 57:44Speaker 6: Payton was great, but he was great.
- 57:46Speaker 3: He wasn't as good as Brady, not quite.
- 57:48Speaker 2: No, he had a lot more, but he made guys
- 57:51Speaker 2: look better. He had such command of that offense.
- 57:54Speaker 3: He never had the ability to punt the ball in
- 57:56Speaker 3: the heyday of the Colts Patriots rivalry because if he
- 57:59Speaker 3: punted once the game was over because the Patriots weren't
- 58:01Speaker 3: gonna gonna not score, not against that defense.
- 58:04Speaker 6: But everybody sucked besides Brady.
- 58:06Speaker 3: Oh okay, I didn't say anything about the defensive players sucking.
- 58:13Speaker 3: Seymour was in the Hall of Fame. Will Fork could
- 58:16Speaker 3: be someday, Harrison could be something.
- 58:18Speaker 2: The coach one good defense. They have two good defensive
- 58:22Speaker 2: players who if they were.
- 58:23Speaker 6: To have played like three play three games a year.
- 58:27Speaker 2: Sanders, right, you're right. If he if he got hurt,
- 58:30Speaker 2: then they had trouble.
- 58:33Speaker 5: And mathis yeah, good players. FREDI was good.
- 58:36Speaker 6: They were a good player. Matthis was good too.
- 58:39Speaker 5: Phil's in Utah. What's up Phil?
- 58:43Speaker 9: Hey, guys, long time listener, Pyre listening for twenty years.
- 58:45Speaker 1: How you doing good?
- 58:46Speaker 5: Good? Thanks for listening. Good for twenty years?
- 58:49Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I love the show. Hey, got a question
- 58:51Speaker 9: trivia question for you. And then I wanted to share
- 58:53Speaker 9: with you about tell you a story about mister Kraft.
- 58:58Speaker 6: I want to hear that board the.
- 58:59Speaker 9: Game which the game out here close to me?
- 59:03Speaker 14: Once?
- 59:03Speaker 9: Did you to figure out which game it was? Before
- 59:05Speaker 9: the game, they handed mister Kraft a letter that he
- 59:08Speaker 9: read that was saying that Teddy Brusk was coming back
- 59:11Speaker 9: to play after his strokes. Okay, and Patriot said up
- 59:18Speaker 9: losing that game twenty eight to twenty. Paul quarterback was
- 59:23Speaker 9: the Snake. You know the opponent what.
- 59:25Speaker 6: Two and five they lost at Denver to the Broncos.
- 59:31Speaker 3: Correct, Okay, I only got it, which was Snake, Yeah,
- 59:36Speaker 3: Jake Plumber. And then I remember they lost twenty eight
- 59:39Speaker 3: to twenty and that was again they were getting killed
- 59:41Speaker 3: and they came back. And Andy asked Belichick after the
- 59:44Speaker 3: game if he ever thought they were back in the game.
- 59:47Speaker 5: I'm talking about the one score game.
- 59:49Speaker 3: Like he got really mad, and then like two weeks
- 59:51Speaker 3: later he goes, well, we really weren't even competitive in
- 59:53Speaker 3: that game. And Andy was so mad because Andy asked
- 59:58Speaker 3: him basically what. Three weeks later, Belichick came around to saying, like,
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: you know, we were kind of hanging on in that game, right, Okay?
- 1:00:07Speaker 9: So yeah, the oh here it comes the Shanahan stall
- 1:00:12Speaker 9: at the Pacers for making their comeback. It's pretty funny.
- 1:00:15Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:00:16Speaker 9: So before the game, mister Kraft is over on the sideline.
- 1:00:19Speaker 9: A bunch of fans were there and he's autographing stuff
- 1:00:22Speaker 9: and they're hanging tee shirts down over the wall and
- 1:00:25Speaker 9: he's signing everything. Well, he's not really paying attention, so
- 1:00:28Speaker 9: he signed the stadium. So the bumper that's the past
- 1:00:33Speaker 9: around the stadium. Oh yeah, Pop on the side of
- 1:00:35Speaker 9: the statement, I said, you guys, I sent you guys
- 1:00:36Speaker 9: a picture was pretty funny.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: So I'm wonderful it's probably not there anymore. They've probably
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: switched that out by now, right, it's like twenty years.
- 1:00:44Speaker 9: I would hope.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: So, yeah, would that'd be funny, Like they're switching it
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: out and the guy's like.
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: Hey, okay, yeah.
- 1:00:53Speaker 9: Who back bob?
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:00:56Speaker 9: So rule rule question for you, rule proposal. You know,
- 1:01:02Speaker 9: there's lots to talk about overtime rules and you know,
- 1:01:04Speaker 9: two possessions and whatever, and the discussion is always, you know,
- 1:01:09Speaker 9: no one they don't know if they're going to get
- 1:01:10Speaker 9: the ball back in overtime. So what if they did
- 1:01:12Speaker 9: away with the coin toss for overtime and they just
- 1:01:14Speaker 9: said coin toss at the beginning of the game and
- 1:01:17Speaker 9: we alternate possessions to the half and then for overtime,
- 1:01:20Speaker 9: so you play the fourth board or knowing who gets
- 1:01:23Speaker 9: the ball first and overtime, and then you play your
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: sudden death sudden victory in overtime.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: What do you think about that?
- 1:01:29Speaker 9: And I'll think about you.
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: I don't like it.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: Yeah, my problem with the sudden death and overtime has
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: nothing really to do with the coin toss. It's more
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: the team that gets the ball first has a chance
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: to end the game, Like I think both teams should
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: have a chance.
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: But does it affect at all how the game might end? Like,
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: that's what I was thinking about.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: Would it impact your knowing like, well, we've got the
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: ball if we gets overtime right.
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: Affects your strategy or we know we.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Definitely would affect your strategy, But that doesn't mean it's
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: better or worse. It does affect the strategy towards the
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: end of the game.
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: If you know, if it's.
- 1:02:06Speaker 6: A tie game and you know you're getting the ball
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: and overtime, you're just gonna sit on it because you.
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: Wouldn't do that.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: You're going to like it tethers the the coin toss
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: to the game where it feels like overtime now with
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: a separate coin toss is kind of its own separate element.
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: So now you're going you're keeping overtime tied to.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: I think it might be the only strategy I could
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: see in Mike's theory which I think could could come
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: into play thinking about it, is going for two, like
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: if you had the ball at the end. Let's let's
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: say that the Titans game last year that the Patriots
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: know the Titans getting are getting the ball to start overtime, Well,
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: maybe I'm more apt to.
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: Go for it.
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe, Yeah, probably affects the odds. I mean, don't
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: you know how they have that like like real time
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: odds of your chance of winning the game. So in
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: that regard, it might look at that opportunity as you
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: you have to kind of go for two right now,
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: because if you don't, there's a high probability they're going
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: to get the they're going to get the first session
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: and probably scoring in the game based on you know.
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: So, I don't know.
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: It's interesting though, It's I don't like, I don't hate
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: the idea of, like I said, tethering it to the
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: game itself and still having it part of the game flow,
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: whereas now is overtime is you're just kind of starting
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: over again, like it's a new game basically.
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: So would you do the Bill thing of like just
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: play it out as a quarter because that's what Bill,
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: That's what I would do. Bo always vouched for it
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: to just be it's just quarter five like it.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Whoever possessed it like continue it ends in a tie
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: after the fifth quarter, it's a tie.
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: Yeah, but you can't do that in the playoffs, No,
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: you keep.
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: Playing hockey style.
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: Yeah, interesting idea. I love when people come up with
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: this kind of STI like those ideas.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: That's I would not be in favor of that particular one,
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: but I do like those kinds of.
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: Game theories where how does it affect how the game went?
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: Unfold it?
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: Because I do feel like there would be in certain
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: circumstances at the end of the fourth quarter might change
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: an approach.
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: Yeah, uh uh so how about how about.
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: If you were down three?
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: If you were down three and let's say, you know,
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: third and goal from the four yard line, incomplete pass,
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: fourth and goal, two seconds left, kick the field goal
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: to tie it, know when the other team has the ball,
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: or do you now go for it and say I'm
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: going to take a shot to win. So I do
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: think there are very specific circumstances that that might change
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: the mentality of, you know, the decision making.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: Kendall's in North Carolina. Hate Kendall Kendall.
- 1:04:39Speaker 14: Hey, Hey, hey, how you doing good?
- 1:04:43Speaker 11: Good? I got a Christian I was listening to great
- 1:04:46Speaker 11: podcast last night that Ullu.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Was just giving your don't do that.
- 1:04:58Speaker 11: I was listening to Great said that mac Hollands was
- 1:05:01Speaker 11: a for sure lot. He said, Popud's a lot. I
- 1:05:04Speaker 11: don't understand that, like what mc holland was doing, that
- 1:05:07Speaker 11: he's a lot to.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: Big think he got signed as a free agent.
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I just feel like they have and I don't
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: necessarily agree with that the pop element to that.
- 1:05:16Speaker 11: He said, he said Mac was a sure lot. There's
- 1:05:19Speaker 11: no way to get pot and he said that Pop
- 1:05:21Speaker 11: isn't a lot to make the team.
- 1:05:23Speaker 6: Well I could. I kind of understand his thinking a
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: little bit, just like Mac Collins to me is just
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: like they have a they have a role in mind
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: for Mac Collins, Like I understand that he's not Randy Moss,
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: but like they have a vision of like the leadership
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: and the four down ability and like what he's going
- 1:05:39Speaker 6: to bring to the whole thing.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: Can we like agree, you know, right, wrong or indifferent
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: than Mac Collins has had a better NFL career than
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: Pop Douglas Bong NFL per Ye, he's proven something tomorrow.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Thanks Kendall. I don't know what you're doing over there.
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: I think what Greg's point was if I remember correct,
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: because I actually saw something about it yesterday, was like
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: that Douglas could be a trade candidate, out of which
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: I don't think he was thinking that Douglas isn't going
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: to make the roster. It would be either trade or
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: make the roster. Not there's no cut in that cat
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: in that element there. But like with mac Collins said,
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: I feel like we get a lot of calls about
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: MATC Collins.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: And didn't do anything all because he was hurt and
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: he rehabbed, and everybody just says he's not going to
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: make the team.
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: They're just like he has familiar to he played with
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: McDaniels in Vegas. Like there's just they have.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: They signed him for a reason. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: And I don't think Pop is a I love Pop,
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: but I don't think he's a lock.
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: Well, I think he's either a trade or or on
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: the team. I don't think he's your cutting them.

- 1:09:37Speaker 18: Okay, respect the football team and the people that are here.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: We're building our program. When we talk about you know
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: when I.
- 1:09:45Speaker 18: Got here, okay, and what my goal was, it was
- 1:09:48Speaker 18: to build a program that you guys and the coaches
- 1:09:52Speaker 18: and the staff wanted to be a part of, that
- 1:09:55Speaker 18: they wanted to protect, and that you were proud of it.
- 1:09:57Speaker 18: I'm proud of the way we prepare, I'm proud of
- 1:09:59Speaker 18: the way we practice, okay, And I'm proud of my
- 1:10:02Speaker 18: teammates for the effort in which they play. The overriding
- 1:10:05Speaker 18: goals for that program that we're going to build is
- 1:10:08Speaker 18: going to be one to win the division.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:10:10Speaker 18: When was the last time the New England Patriots won
- 1:10:13Speaker 18: the division?
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Does anybody know? Twenty nineteen.
- 1:10:17Speaker 18: So we're building our own identity, okay, and it's all
- 1:10:20Speaker 18: going to be based on how do we make you, guys, Okay,
- 1:10:23Speaker 18: as good as you possibly can be as an individual,
- 1:10:28Speaker 18: as a player, and then as a teammate. The training staff,
- 1:10:31Speaker 18: the equipment staff, the kitchen staff, these people.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: All here to help you.
- 1:10:38Speaker 18: Okay, We're going to treat those people with the utmost respect.
- 1:10:42Speaker 18: That's important to our owner, that's important to me, that's
- 1:10:46Speaker 18: important to everybody here, is how you treat people.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: In this building.
- 1:10:50Speaker 18: Somebody asked me, are you worried about went wrong last year?
- 1:10:54Speaker 18: Why the would I care about what happened last year.
- 1:11:00Speaker 18: I'm worried about what's gonna go right today and tomorrow
- 1:11:05Speaker 18: and the next day. We're not worried about what went wrong.
- 1:11:09Speaker 18: We're focused on what's gonna go right. And I want
- 1:11:11Speaker 18: you to understand that.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:11:13Speaker 18: The foundation is gonna be built on things like trust.
- 1:11:18Speaker 18: Do we trust you to do your job and to
- 1:11:20Speaker 18: do what's right for the team on and off the field.
- 1:11:25Speaker 18: Do you trust what the coaches are telling you so
- 1:11:29Speaker 18: that it makes you better When we talk about building
- 1:11:32Speaker 18: a program, Okay, the foundation is gonna be built on
- 1:11:36Speaker 18: things like honesty. The program is gonna be built on honesty. Okay,
- 1:11:42Speaker 18: we always talk about the truth. You want to tell
- 1:11:45Speaker 18: the truth, you want to seek the truth, and you
- 1:11:48Speaker 18: want to.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Handle the truth. It's gonna be built on accountability.
- 1:11:51Speaker 18: When I was in the fifth grade, I had this
- 1:11:53Speaker 18: hard ass math teacher and he used to come up
- 1:11:56Speaker 18: and grab us by the back of the neck because
- 1:11:58Speaker 18: we were messing around just like you guys did his school.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: And every time he'd screw up, he'd made you.
- 1:12:02Speaker 18: Right accountability and then it had to spell it right,
- 1:12:07Speaker 18: and then it was the definition I will take responsibility
- 1:12:11Speaker 18: for my own actions.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: I couldn't tell you anything.
- 1:12:14Speaker 18: Else he taught me about math, but I could tell
- 1:12:17Speaker 18: you that accountability is I will take responsibility for my
- 1:12:20Speaker 18: own actions. And I thank him because I had to
- 1:12:23Speaker 18: write it. He'd be like five hundred thousand. So then
- 1:12:26Speaker 18: we just would spend classes getting ahead. And when he
- 1:12:28Speaker 18: told his five hundred, we already had him written out.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: We were ready to go.
- 1:12:32Speaker 18: But I know the definition of accountability.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: It's going to be built on respect.
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: You could see if my batman go back. Let's get
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: a yall boys.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: The respect that we have for each other to do
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: their job.
- 1:12:44Speaker 18: What everybody's role here is, and we come to work
- 1:12:48Speaker 18: that we communicate. If it's important to you, it will
- 1:12:50Speaker 18: be important to us.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: I want you to understand that it will be important.
- 1:12:54Speaker 18: To us, and ultimately it's going to be built on
- 1:12:57Speaker 18: a connection. It's important to me that we get to
- 1:13:00Speaker 18: know you guys. It's important to me that you guys
- 1:13:02Speaker 18: get to know each other because in the end, when
- 1:13:06Speaker 18: goes bad, like it does every season, at some point
- 1:13:09Speaker 18: in time, in every locker room throughout the National Football League,
- 1:13:13Speaker 18: some is gonna happen. How do we respond there?
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:13:17Speaker 18: How do we help a teammate that's going through something.
- 1:13:20Speaker 18: There's gonna be an energy. We're not gonna walk around on.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: A practice field. We're a long way off from.
- 1:13:25Speaker 18: There, okay, but there's gonna be an energy around this building.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: What you can expect. We're gonna coachaty eight.
- 1:13:31Speaker 19: On the ball, on the balls in a row, good communication,
- 1:13:35Speaker 19: know what to do, nowhere to go.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: And then on Sunday we're gonna let you play.
- 1:13:38Speaker 18: Kayden, have you been lifting this offseason?
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: If you done any lyft?
- 1:13:42Speaker 18: Okay, good, Well, let me come up here and I'm
- 1:13:43Speaker 18: going to see how much you've been lifting. Okay, let's
- 1:13:47Speaker 18: count off eight steps, Okay, one.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Two, three, four, five, six.
- 1:13:52Speaker 18: Seven, eight. Okay, good, let's turn around. Let's get back
- 1:13:56Speaker 18: to the middle. Let's get four ready, one, two three?
- 1:14:00Speaker 18: Would you guys all assume this is in the middle. Okay, good,
- 1:14:03Speaker 18: I get you a little base here. Get your hands up,
- 1:14:08Speaker 18: open your hands up, okay, get hold on ready?
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: Okay, good, you've been lifting everybody? Give him around on
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: the pause, sit out.
- 1:14:22Speaker 18: So what did you just notice right there? And the
- 1:14:25Speaker 18: two things we did anybody notice anything, Tony? Did you
- 1:14:28Speaker 18: notice anything? How easily I got him to move across
- 1:14:30Speaker 18: this hallway? And then when I started pushing against them
- 1:14:34Speaker 18: what happened? Yeah, we are going to be along on
- 1:14:39Speaker 18: this journey with you, guys.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: You understand that.
- 1:14:42Speaker 18: And I don't care whatever's happened or how you've been coached.
- 1:14:44Speaker 18: This is how I want to do it.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: Being along for the journey. Yeah.
- 1:14:49Speaker 18: I was kind of guiding him along there, pushing him
- 1:14:51Speaker 18: a little bit, right, but I was next to him.
- 1:14:54Speaker 18: There's a difference between being next to somebody and pushing
- 1:14:59Speaker 18: them then sitting across from him and having some conflict.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:15:04Speaker 18: So that's our whole goal of how we're going to
- 1:15:06Speaker 18: operate this program, is that We're going to be along
- 1:15:08Speaker 18: on the journey. There's gonna be some ups and downs,
- 1:15:11Speaker 18: but that's the whole goal of what we're.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Trying to do, is to go along on this journey.
- 1:15:15Speaker 18: With you guys, to get you more out of here
- 1:15:17Speaker 18: than what you guys think.
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: The way they practice a lot of efforts to finish.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Great teams go out to practice at different piece.
- 1:15:31Speaker 18: That's just what we're gonna do because that's the only
- 1:15:33Speaker 18: way that our identity.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: Can take over.
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: This is professional football. This is your job. You're not
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: on scholarship. You don't get a rigs.
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: Your year better be all right.
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: You're not tough.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: You have our complaining this way, men, you can't continue statement.
- 1:15:50Speaker 6: You get like two steps decided to get out good.
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: That kind of drill should be tear then God go
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: work like the dep go rep get off.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: We can remember it, but we can also work together.
- 1:16:03Speaker 18: All right, big weekend, my son turns twenty one. We're
- 1:16:10Speaker 18: in this business to win and to help players improve.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: I think that they embraced the change.
- 1:16:17Speaker 20: I would have fit with two hunts.
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: I feel like I'm blessed to do this, so I
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: wake up with that grind every day.
- 1:16:22Speaker 9: You tought them.
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: That's only that's something that you can write.
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: And now great moments in history.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: There is no one way but to win for twenty years,
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: you better have a tight ship. You have to have
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: a tight ship. You can't run it loosey goosey. And
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: I'm not sure that the way arians does it would
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: work for twenty years.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know that. I don't know that either
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: don't have a tight But I know a lot of
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: other teams that have a looser ship that have won
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: for twenty years.
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: Well, I don't know.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: They just haven't won six titles because they haven't had Brady.
- 1:16:57Speaker 5: Yeah, who like Pittsburgh. I don't think Baltimore tight ship.
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: I think that that's a real think.
- 1:17:04Speaker 17: That he kept Brown.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: Yeah, they video the postgame talk after a playoffs, he
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: did it, but that's it's not a TA one.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: Guy and and to me and you know it, and
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: you agree, Paul, after we learned what a guy Antonio
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: Brown was, I have a life more respect for Mike.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: That's absolutely true, right, I think because because he put
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: up with a lot.
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: Of crowns and he kept it, he kept it going.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Somehow, I think that organization this isn't steel his daily.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: But I think that organization is a tight ship. I
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: think from the top down the Rooneyes, I think there's one.
- 1:17:36Speaker 6: But it's not like this is my point.
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: Well, but I think that they are a well run organization.
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: I agree. I think Baltimore is too. Yeah, I would.
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: I think Baltimore is a well run organization. Everybody thinks
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: the coach is a weenie, so like, I don't know, what.
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: Are you gonna do?
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Harba.
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: Everybody hates him.
- 1:17:52Speaker 6: He's a whiner, he's always complaining about.
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: That's another great moment from.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: All right back are and Patriots filtered.
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: Fred the Steelers ship too Brown video in the post game.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: The tight the fact that tomlin Cape kept that together
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: with Antonio Brown.
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: Right with everybody going doing whatever they wanted to do.
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: The fact that Tom win went together and kept winning.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: Yes, we had guys like that too when Belichick figured
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: it out.
- 1:18:23Speaker 5: Anyway, Well, that's what the whole thing. The premise was.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: They haven't won six titles, but they've won for twenty years. Yeah,
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: they've been good for twenty Yeah.
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: But when you win those titles, the entitlement start syncing
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: in and it's hard to keep it together.
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: It really is.
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: I mean, I tie that to what you guys said
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: about some guys being great coordinators and don't want to
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: have to deal with keeping the ship in order as
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: you have to do with a head coach, all the
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: things Bill Belichick used to say about, you know the other.
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: Things you have to do as a head coach.
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: I can see why guys would find it appealing to
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: be like, I have my position group, I know what
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: I'm doing, I have a select group of guys, don't
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: have to worry about all this other big picture stuff
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: that the head coach has to handle.
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: It.
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: It's hard to think those I think in that respect,
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: I think Belichick is underrated when it comes to being
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: the CEO of a team, you.
- 1:19:12Speaker 6: Know, program builder.
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think running the ship, running the whole thing,
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: I think he's underrated.
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: I think I think it was.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: That's the genius he had was keeping this thing together
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: for twenty years. It's that's as much of an accomplishment
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: as what he did winning, but keeping it together and
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: winning like that.
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: Best coach in football for twenty years and more than
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: a coach.
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: And I don't know how you can say anything that
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: he did was underrated. I think he's widely considered.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: People say, people say he was a great coach, but
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: not a great cham People say that all the time.
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: But that's two different things. I would agree with that.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: But to me, a general manager is the guy that runs.
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: I think he was underrated as a general manager. I
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: think I think he was bad at it.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: Okay, well, I think I include. I think you're focusing
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: on just personnel decisions.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: To me, a general manager in the true sense is
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: someone who runs the team, who's in charge of the
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: whole operation. And in that way, well then who is
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: that person.
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: The head coach kind of runs like the operation. And
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: I think Belichick is not on every team, tremendous not
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: on every team, and every team is different.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: I think in Art in the Patriots during the dynasty,
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: he was both. He was the guy that ran the
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: whole organization and he was the head coach. And I
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: think in the running of the organization part, I think
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: he was underrated.
- 1:20:32Speaker 6: So ta Costa in Baltimore. Now, does he run the Ravens?
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: No, No, John Harbord does, Okay, Okay, he doesn't. Scouting, yeah,
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: oh yeah.
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: He's the general manager, does all the player personnelity does,
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: Like Harvard doesn't that personnel control DA Costa does. I
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: wouldn't say that Costa runs the Ravens. I would say
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: Harbord does. He's the CEO of the Baltimore Ravens. I
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: think Bill was outstanding at that. I totally agree with
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: Fred on this. He wasn't just a coach. He ran
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: every every day.
- 1:21:08Speaker 5: There was no confusion.
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: Bill is the messager messenger and he's the one who's
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: delivering it every day, no ambiguity.
- 1:21:20Speaker 5: Everybody knew what.
- 1:21:20Speaker 6: They had to do because Bill made sure everybody knew
- 1:21:22Speaker 6: what they had to do. Yeah, he ran the team.
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: They haven't played any games. But don't you feel the
- 1:21:27Speaker 6: same way about Rabel? Like the second that he has
- 1:21:29Speaker 6: gotten here in every exposure we've had to him.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: It's SAE, there's Elliott or Ryan Cowden. One of those
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: guys is the GM, even though they don't have the
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: title of GM head scout.
- 1:21:39Speaker 5: Mike Rabel runs the Patriots.
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: It's incredible like that some of the stuff that he's
- 1:21:44Speaker 6: taught to us about, you know, just all the things
- 1:21:47Speaker 6: that he thinks about, Like, I don't know how much
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: of it necessarily contributes to winning. It doesn't. But like
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: all the elements, like we talked about him on this
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: show about like social media, right, and players with social
- 1:21:57Speaker 6: media and like all these other different things, is that
- 1:22:00Speaker 6: you are in his purview.
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: There's so many things that can go wrong, so many
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: things that can go wrong, especially and you believe it
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: or not. More so when you start winning, and like
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: the entitlement starts seeping in. You know, the guys want theirs,
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: they want their contract. There's so much that goes into
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: it that that's why you don't see it a lot
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: where you know, what the Patriots did, uh, because it's
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: hard to keep it together.
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: Really hard, and I think there was really really good
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: stay the same every day that I mean Billy every
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: way to play win or lose.
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: I mean that was impressive.
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: I mean I kind of give Mike Greese a little credit,
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: Like like Mike Greece is the same every day, whether
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: the team wins four games where they were in the
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: Super Bowl, he gets always but he pursues this with
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: the same kind of you know, the same thing as Bill.
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: I would compare it to the same passion for the
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: game and the team that that you know, no matter
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: what the results are, keep going but I don't want
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: to oversimplify it. But between the Bruins tip lately with
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: their draft, between looking at the eighties and the Patriots
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: drafts at that time, is it just is it an
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: over gross, over oversimplification to just saying professional sports, if
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: you don't hit on a superstar every handful of years,
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: you're not going to be relevant. Like the only way
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: to stay good is your our organization has to hit
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: on superstars, preferably in the draft. That probably there's an
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: argument you made free agency that you can do it,
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: maybe not sustainably quite as long, but like that's everything
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: to me.
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: You look at the Bruins like they're in a transition
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: period now they have no star players.
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: You have the Patriots the last couple of years they
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: had no star players. You look at those drafts that
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: led up to it three four years ago, and you see,
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: this is a total whiff.
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: This is a total whiff. Felt the same way about.
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: Looking at the eighties Patriots where eighty one, eighty two,
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: eighty three good drafts Andre Tippett started to miss out,
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: then eighty four, eighty five, eighty six bad drafts catch
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: up with them four or five years down, Like I
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: don't know if it's over simplifying, but Trevor not a
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: big Trevor, but that's how it was.
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: You look at Wow.
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: I mean, look, you get Ronnie Lapett and like the
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: sixth round or whatever, and this guy goes on and
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: is a starter, and no one probably remembers how good
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: or bad he was, but he was a solid player
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: that you know, led this team to a lot of wins.
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: And you know, if you don't find those players, you're
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: you're just your s's argument too. Man, I forget the
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: individual year.
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: If it was eighty two, eighty four, or you know,
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: somewhere in that eighties, might be the best draft in
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: the Patriots history. Yeah, like it's in a small handful
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: of consideration.
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: Yeah, twenty ten, Yeah, yeah, that's and like Bill Bill
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: hit some of those players along the way. And then
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: you know the late two thousands when they hit that
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: lull and O nine and it looked like things might
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: be going sideways right now, Like that didn't that team
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: that lost to the Ravens, you guys know what, they
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: got blown off the field like it looked like it
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: was over. Then you get Gronkowski, and you get Hernandez
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: and you get Devin mccordy, and you get Dante Hid.
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: All of a sudden, they hit on some stars. Those
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: players didn't exist.
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: In twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen, twenty twenty.
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: You know, like that's how it catches up with you.
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: And I'm not gonna lie to you, like you look
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: at some of the last couple drafts. We need to
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: see a lot more out of these.
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: Guys if they're going to get out of this this circle,
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: no matter how good, Drake may or Mike.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: Ribbles starting with Drake May, Tyler wo Ludlaw little, would
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: you rather non football looks like one? All your closest
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: friends are eighteen years old or eighty eighty?
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: Right now?
- 1:25:19Speaker 6: Right now, come on, eighteen year.
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: Old, all your closest friends are eighteen or eighty.
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: It's a great it's a great quest, great question.
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: Are going to go eighteen?
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: Might go?
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: Could you relate more to the young kid?
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: Definitely not. I'm a child. Do you understand what eighteen
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: year olds are like?
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: That's what I would not.
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: Rather go golfing with my sons than you know, part
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: cheesy with the try to find out what I can
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: do with an eighty year old.
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: I feel like your your son's from what you tell.
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: Us is but your that's not fair part not your son.
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: My son's age. One's eighteen, one's twenty. Okay, so you're
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: saying someone like your sons. Yeah, if I mean, I'm
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: assuming these are my friends. Yeah, your closest friends.
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: I can't go golfing with an eighty year old.
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: Well, but some of them can take the car. Take
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: the car?
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: Sure, nobody.
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: Who would you relate better to? Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:26:10Speaker 6: Would I relate better to probably the eighty year old.
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: Yeah, So that's that's the it's a good question.
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: That's why I said that. It's but I would pick eighteen.
- 1:26:18Speaker 6: When you walk through like like areas of Boston, like
- 1:26:21Speaker 6: the popular areas of Boston. Now I see poor you know,
- 1:26:24Speaker 6: Faniel Hall, things like that, Like these kids are out
- 1:26:27Speaker 6: there with their ring lights and their cell phones just
- 1:26:31Speaker 6: taking TikTok videos and Instagram selfies and like like that's
- 1:26:36Speaker 6: what the eighteen year olds are doing, and that's what
- 1:26:38Speaker 6: you want to do in your free time. No, I
- 1:26:42Speaker 6: don't like things dance. The eighty year olds are sitting
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: around watching Mattlock.
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: I don't want to do that either. I know, it's
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: it's a good question. Much.
- 1:26:53Speaker 6: I'd much rather watch Mattlock than watch you know, good
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: seventeen poses like oh, we're going to the beach today.
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: So that's that's one element of what eighteen year olds do.
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: Like if they're my friends, they're probably not doing that, right,
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: So again, like my kids don't do that now. They
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: do a lot of other things that are annoying me, of course,
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: But like I said, I can go golfing with my boys.
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: I could go fishing with my boys. I can't do
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: these things with eighty year olds.
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: That's true. You can go fish fish.
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: I'm just saying in general, no more things that I
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: could figure out how to.
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: Now, it's interesting that Tyler uses eighteen instead of twenty one.
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: So with twenty one you could at least go and
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: have a drink. Right, that's different so that but I'm
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: kind of with Paul. At least you can do stuff
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: with the eighteen year old with somebody's eighty like any
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: day now.
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: And pretty much strictly resigned to sitting around right and
- 1:27:47Speaker 5: playing chess. Maybe yeah, you know.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: I just be asking to read our books. My dad's
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: my dad's, you know, in his eighties. I love spending
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: time with my dad, but like once I spent like,
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: what else am I doing other than just sitting around
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: talking to my dad?
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: You know?
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: My dad's like my favorite person on the planet, But like,
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: what else am I going to do? I used to
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: golf with my father, but he can't do it anymore.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: Take the card he can't play.
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: The second one is would you rather be able to
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: remember everyone's names and faces or every book, movie, and
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: TV show you've ever seen?
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: A red book, movie, TV show would be amazing, huh.
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: Acquire a lot of knowledge, you know, and be able
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: to talk about a lot of things.
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: And I say this to somebody who puts trouble, that
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: would make you incredibly learned, As they say, I think,
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: I agree.
- 1:28:40Speaker 6: Yeah, I read.
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: I can get by people's names and faces.
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: Like last night, got back from a trip and she
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: was like, oh, I got you a book and I'm
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: like oh, She's like, it's The Psychology of Money, And
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: I like this first time.
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: I never asked me, I've already read it. She's like,
- 1:28:53Speaker 5: did you like him? Like, I have no idea. I
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: read books and then they're like out of my head.
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: The second books.
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: Would your child is the best player on every team,
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: but you're the parent that yells at the coach and
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: ref all the game. Or your kid is among the
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: worst on the team, but you're the coach that keeps
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: them in the whole game.
- 1:29:11Speaker 5: Those are both miserable.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: Your child is the best player on every team, but
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: you're the parent that yells at the coach and ref
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: all game. Or your kid is among the worst in
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: the team, but you're the coach that keeps them in
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: the game.
- 1:29:24Speaker 6: There's nothing more annoying. There's nothing more annoying than number two.
- 1:29:30Speaker 6: But it's the coach's son. There's nothing worse than that.
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd rather have my politics.
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: I hate both of those scenarios. But yeah, there's nothing
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: worse than the coach that plays his kid who can't play.
- 1:29:42Speaker 5: Nothing worse than that. And finally, would you rather when
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: going on a trip?
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: Would you rather have everything packed for you or have
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: everything clean and put away when you return home?
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: Yeah? Clean and put away. I don't mind packing for
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: a trip, I would agree. Yeah, it's very medical. I'm
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: always like how much underwear, like I'm three days.
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: I find both of those things very Yeah, well, I
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: find both of those things very easy.
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: But I would rather pack than clean. I feel like
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: a pro.
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: Like we got back from India the combine, Like I
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: just take the whole thing and just dump it right
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: on the wash.
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: I do that.
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: Yeah, not that we signed five minutes my suitcases back
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: in the atta. Yet I am one of like I needed, Yeah,
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: you want to get it.
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: Not that we super long trip, but I think because
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: we travel so much, like I have it down to
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: an absolute science of like what are the essentials that
- 1:30:31Speaker 6: you really need for these trips, Like it's all basically
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: already packed, like especially once we get in seasons.
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: Remember I was one bag Paul. They called me one bag.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: There was a time where I bought I found this
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: it's a it's a It was a backpack that was
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: used by DJs and I was able not only to
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: carry all my clothes in it, but my laptop and
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: all my work stuff. And I had one bag that
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: I would take on a trip.
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: In your turntables too, if all my turntables.
- 1:30:58Speaker 6: I've considered looking into that because we only go for
- 1:31:01Speaker 6: one night when we like go to a road game,
- 1:31:03Speaker 6: and it's like you know, this guy, get one bag.
- 1:31:07Speaker 6: But then you have to lug all your clothes and
- 1:31:09Speaker 6: stuff like around the stadium.
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: But it was a backpack.
- 1:31:12Speaker 6: Yeah, but still you got this big backpack it was.
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: It wasn't that big. It wasn't that big. C it
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: wasn't that big. But it had to be heavy. Oh
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: it was heavy. We'll be a little scratching before the game,
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: And one time I think I had to bring an
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: extra pair of shoes because I forget what we were doing.
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: So I had them tied on the outside of the
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: hanging off the bag.
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: I think that to play tennis. And didn't you bring
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: your racket? That was I don't know. Maybe maybe I
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: thought that was the San Diego trip.
- 1:31:44Speaker 6: It might.
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: It might have been.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: So I had my sneakers hang tied on outside the bag.
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: No more room.
- 1:31:52Speaker 5: All right?
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: Uh, I haven't talked to this guy in a long time. Uh, Eldred,
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: where you've been?
- 1:31:59Speaker 5: What's up? Elgi? Hey?
- 1:32:03Speaker 8: Tellers, how y'all doing. I'm doing good. I hope you
- 1:32:07Speaker 8: I have a happy four Yeah.
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: I hope so too. Yeah. What are you doing? Are you?
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: Are you on the road for the fourth of you off?
- 1:32:16Speaker 19: I'm working just a half a day, okay? You know
- 1:32:19Speaker 19: all right, yeah, working half a day and everything, all right, Evan, congratulations,
- 1:32:24Speaker 19: and I'm gonna have to agree with disagree with you
- 1:32:26Speaker 19: man all Brady.
- 1:32:28Speaker 8: I've been saying that for years. Sorry, but you can
- 1:32:31Speaker 8: look at the wide.
- 1:32:33Speaker 9: Receivers he had.
- 1:32:33Speaker 20: He did make him look better like the fail absolutely
- 1:32:38Speaker 20: Hogan Emmondola. You know, welcome with the binkie and I
- 1:32:44Speaker 20: love that though, but you know than that, I still say, Brady, Brady,
- 1:32:49Speaker 20: my question is this, well, how about that?
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: Okay, all right, okay, I got one quo.
- 1:33:00Speaker 8: Everybody keeps throwing these pass rushers at us that then
- 1:33:04Speaker 8: they past they prime thirty and thirty six. You know
- 1:33:08Speaker 8: that they'll pay this much and that much. But I
- 1:33:12Speaker 8: rather thow money at a true act because we don't
- 1:33:15Speaker 8: have one and walking and now I know what you
- 1:33:18Speaker 8: all throw his notes of ad Mitchell. But he's down
- 1:33:21Speaker 8: on the depth chart because like I said, he ain't
- 1:33:23Speaker 8: he't got pay Fitzman because they ain't gonna take his spot.
- 1:33:27Speaker 8: So he's done grown up about that. I do what
- 1:33:30Speaker 8: you get one from May that's younger. It's steady thirty
- 1:33:33Speaker 8: six and forty year old receivers, and I take it off.
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: Their Okay, I have a good one.
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: I mean I think we all agree with that. I mean,
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: we want a true you know, superstar acts.
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: Yeah, it's just a matter of who's available.
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: The reason why the pass rushers are coming up is
- 1:33:48Speaker 6: because of their issues with their contracts, you know why.
- 1:33:50Speaker 6: And Hendrick Center on the market and they're both thirty.
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: And the one that we had yesterday on my show
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: that was McLaurin. Yeah, And they said who would you
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: rather have like or McLaurin, And I said McLaurin, I
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: think what's probably a better pure player.
- 1:34:05Speaker 6: Yeah, but I think that would fit the what they
- 1:34:07Speaker 6: need more.
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: I would agree, Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure, So I think
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: in that way we're we're agreeing with Eldred.
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: I would agree, but I think I would. But who's available. Yeah,
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: the pass rush is a major need.
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: I just don't think they have any receivers, but they
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: do have the need for pass rushing.
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: Mike's right, he's been on.
- 1:34:26Speaker 6: I think if you know this, you know he likes defense,
- 1:34:28Speaker 6: you know.
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: I mean, I think you can committee the pass rush.
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: You're not going to have that elite guy, but you
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: can you can create pressure as a team. You can
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: be a high sacked and the Patriots have shown that
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: you can be a high sacked team without one guy
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: getting fifteen sacks. But to win the one on ones,
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: you know, have that X guy that can always win.
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: That's huge.
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: But I think what Eldrid's saying is taking a flyer
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: on someone who's available because they're down the depth chart
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: and ad Mitchell, like, you know, it's it's hard to
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: make that pitch of oh, well, he's going to come
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: in and be the guy. He's a lot like what
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: we have right now, which is unknown, and yeah, yeah,
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: maybe he can play.
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: He had a little bit of a better He had
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: a better rookie year than than Polk. But it's like
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: not completely different. You know, like two guys that were
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: drafted high that that haven't that didn't have great rookie years.
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: He was better than Polk as a rookie, but that
- 1:35:17Speaker 6: bar is not very high. But like if these guys
- 1:35:19Speaker 6: were available, like you know, if they could go trade
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: for a superstar receiver, then we would all be on
- 1:35:24Speaker 6: board for the superstar receiver. It's just what's avail I like.
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: The idea that they just trade they trade Polk for Mitchell.
- 1:35:30Speaker 6: Sure, give that a track set for depressed that.
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: But I think that it's in need.
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: I just I think it's a lot easier now for
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: me to look around the league and look at a
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: guy like Hendrickson.
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: Or even t J. Watt and say, absolutely, this guy
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: would fit in this defense. This is exactly the kind
- 1:35:44Speaker 5: of player they need.
- 1:35:45Speaker 4: Whereas in the past with Bill, where it was so fluid,
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: you'd be like, well.
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: He's kind of a stand up guy, you know, like
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: there'd be something he's Bill gonna use him. Yeah, But
- 1:35:53Speaker 5: now it's just like, no, you get what they're trying
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: to do.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: You know what the type is, and both those guys
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: are the type, and I would I would, I would
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: sign up for both of them immediately.
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: I just think I think it's I think every team
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: could use guys like that.
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Bill would have too. I mean, I
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: totally understand Mike's point, but I think Bill would have.
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: It didn't stop him from Andre Carter, I mean eleven,
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: but yeah, TJ.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: Yeah, uh, let's go to Todd. North Carolina hate Todd.
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: Todd Todd to Yeah, he's usually right that he's on
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: his game, all right. A lot of emails coming in
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: Spian Fresno a little off topic one. What are your
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: all time favorite sports fights brawls? There are so many
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: iconic ones. I get to get your thoughts percolating. Here's
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: a quick list that pops to my mind. Pedro tosses
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: Zimmer Tyson bikes holy Field to Leib's felony robbery of
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: Crabtree on Live TV, Nolan Ryan versus Robin Ventura, Patrick
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: Wah versus Mike Vernon.
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: I don't remember that. Oh yeah, Malice at the Palace.
- 1:37:00Speaker 6: That's that's in that conversation.
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: And the many exploits of professional a hole Bill Lambier, Well.
- 1:37:06Speaker 6: Some of those are like in game, like athletes first athletes.
- 1:37:11Speaker 6: It's like the mouse in the Palace. It was fans
- 1:37:13Speaker 6: were involved in that. Yeah. I would put the Bruins one.
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: In going into the stands right at Madison Square, guard
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: Milberry taking the guy's shoe off. I think the Yankees
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: Red Sox.
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: When you know Sech Vera Tech is Zimmer love that
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: because one Evan's going to get mad at me. But
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: one thing always bothered me about that, and that was
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: Vera Tech leaving his mask on.
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: It bucked me.
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: Maybe he didn't have time to take it all well,
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: I'm sure he didn't think about it because you.
- 1:37:39Speaker 6: Think that he was. It's cowardly.
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, I don't think it was. But I
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: don't like the look of it because of that, right,
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: I mean, please, there was a softer like star in
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: the history of sport.
- 1:37:51Speaker 6: Pretty obviously Pedro and Zimmer is like, that's obviously the
- 1:37:55Speaker 6: throw down.
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: Hat. That was fine.
- 1:37:59Speaker 6: It was what do you mean I charged Pro?
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: He just tossed him to the side.
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: I still want to know what Pedro was supposed to do.
- 1:38:06Speaker 6: He's going to let him run him over.
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: I don't charge.
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: Zimmer was one thousand percent in the wrong, Zimmer And
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: and I hate Zimmer. I hated him because he was
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: a horrific manager of the Red Sox, of the my
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: favorite teams of my childhood. But you couldn't do something
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: other than like that man like that laid him and he.
- 1:38:32Speaker 21: That to me is like encourage more annoying what you
- 1:38:36Speaker 21: said about because like Don Zimmer is running full speed
- 1:38:41Speaker 21: and everybody just wanted Pedro to just wear it, like
- 1:38:45Speaker 21: just let him tackle you.
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: It's like I felt bad. I felt more bad for
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: Pedro when people were criticized like all he did was
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: toss him to the side.
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: I don't know. It wasn't a great fight, but I
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: don't think they had to do that Cam nearly going
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: after Ol Samuelson.
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: That was I kind of enjoyed that that moment elseason
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: just kind of turtle that wasn't really actually a fight,
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: but was it?
- 1:39:06Speaker 5: Was it when Bird just pounded on Lambier. I just
- 1:39:09Speaker 5: watched that one. That was good.
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: Know, Tony Mas had the like they had the tears yesterday,
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: they had like some of these like fireworks. It was
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: like fireworks in Boston history. And that was the Bird
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: Lambert stuff.
- 1:39:23Speaker 5: I was here.
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: I remember when Robert Parrish punched Parish.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: That's why you said the many dirty exploits of billing.
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: I was here for any of her, any of those
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: guys taking shots at Lamber.
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: In your youth sports, uh history, do you remember any
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: fathers getting in fights, like physical fights fight's father.
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: Yeah, a couple of times. Yeah, I mean yeah he was.
- 1:39:47Speaker 12: Uh.
- 1:39:47Speaker 4: There was the headline in the paper the next day
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: was fan fight Mars Holliston victory.
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: And because uh, I mean I think I've told this before.
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: My I was I was out with the broken wrist,
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: drunken high school kids at a high school hockey game,
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: a d telling them to leave. My dad goes wh by.
- 1:40:00Speaker 4: After a period, the kids are yelling. My dad went
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: up into the stands to try to help him along
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: the way.
- 1:40:04Speaker 5: And then I.
- 1:40:04Speaker 4: Didn't see what happened. I just saw like people rolling
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: in the stands and I'm like, oh, there's a fight.
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: Going on, and someone's like, it's your dad.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: Not's probably greatest pummic, but that's that's him.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: He's like he's like a vigilante for justice.
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: If there are kids like being rude and refusing to
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: leave and disrespectful to it, he's in the face.
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: He's gonna get up in their face and have no problem. Okay,
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: all right, all right.
- 1:40:27Speaker 4: He also got to like I think I told another
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: one where like there was a woman changing her tire
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: and there were like these guys like harassing her and
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: framing him, and he like pulled over and like started
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: yelling at the guys to like leave them alone. There
- 1:40:37Speaker 4: was one at the Boston Garden where some guy was
- 1:40:39Speaker 4: being drunken of like, my dad won't hesitate to like
- 1:40:42Speaker 4: get in somebody's face that they're if they're not doing
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: the right thing.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: There was one that I of Red Sox. One that
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: I was hoping would turn into a fight is the
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: one where Clemens threw at somebody and the guy I
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: don't know if it was a broken bat.
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: He Clemens picked up piece of the bat.
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: That was Mets Yankees World Series. It was one of
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: the dumbest things I've ever seen in my life.
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I was hoping that. I thought it was Yeah,
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: I know, throwing them.
- 1:41:09Speaker 6: I was helping.
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: There's nothing about it that made any sense at all.
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: What does he think he's out if he hits him
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: with the ball, you.
- 1:41:16Speaker 6: Know the play?
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it was just quintessential Clements meathead r.
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: I wanted to fight there, but it didn't happen.
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: Never like Patriots stuff though, really, but I mean football, no,
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: not a lot of fights, but there haven't been along
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: in the stands.
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: I was just thinking, like the Panthers practice where that
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: was a melee broke out with Wise that.
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: Yeah, football is so good you can't fight. It's like
- 1:41:41Speaker 5: you gotta throw out the joint practice fights because.
- 1:41:44Speaker 6: They're all happens every The fights in football are snatching,
- 1:41:49Speaker 6: snatching the chain, or like Mike Evans and Marshawn Lattimore, Like,
- 1:41:52Speaker 6: it's usually like a receiver in a corner that get
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: too physical with each other over the course of a
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: Gameland Finn again, Yeah.
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: That's always in fights.
- 1:42:00Speaker 6: Andre Johnson landed really really good punch too.
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: And then then there are NBA fights where it's more like,
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: you know, people slapping each other.
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: How do you guys feel now about hockey fights? Like,
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: sometimes I watch a hockey fight and I'm like, I
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: can't believe this still happens. Like it's just crazy to
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: me that fights like there's just full on assault will
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: break out in the middle of a sporting event, and like,
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: I still I'm a hockey guy.
- 1:42:23Speaker 5: I love it, but like it's still.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: Just like I still can't believe the local media was
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: having orgasms when they in the in the.
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: Hockey World Cup.
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: Pick your party when when Canada U s A when
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: they started off off, people like.
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: This is was pretty coo.
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: It was one of the best hockey games I've seen it.
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: And I'm sort of like an anti I'm kind of
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: like Mike, I think it's kind of run its course,
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: not that I don't. I don't think they should outlaw
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: because I do think there's a place, and I think
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: there's a reason why it needs to stay in because
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: it polices the game itself. But I'm kind of I'm
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: kind of over that. It's just Stan Jonathan beating the
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: bag out of Peter Bouchet. When I was a kid, though,
- 1:43:00Speaker 3: it was like unbelievable.
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: It depends on what the fight like. When they just
- 1:43:04Speaker 6: like kind of have a fight just to fight, it's
- 1:43:06Speaker 6: not as fun. But like I we were at a
- 1:43:07Speaker 6: Bruins game off his last year of the year before
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: where the guy on the opposing team, uh, just was
- 1:43:13Speaker 6: going after Pasta, like just going after him. That's going
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: after him, and then he ended up boarding him actually
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: and hitting it, you know the numbers in the back
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: right into the boards, and Trent Frederick just beat the
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: crap out of the guy.
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: You get whoever, the toughest guy you have, has got
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: to go and protect your stuff.
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: Yeah, and it happened right in front of us. You
- 1:43:31Speaker 6: would have thought that it was like gladiators in the
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: freak like and the whole stands were like like rooting
- 1:43:37Speaker 6: for Frederick to.
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: Just blood lust.
- 1:43:38Speaker 6: Yeah, because Pasta is like like on like he's still
- 1:43:43Speaker 6: on the ice. Like I don't know if it was.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: It might have been.
- 1:43:49Speaker 6: Another right, it was great, but like that was the
- 1:43:55Speaker 6: that was a real true hockey fight, like I can't now,
- 1:43:58Speaker 6: I can't remember if it was Star Marshi, but it
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: was one of the sto yeah, absolutely, and and Frederick
- 1:44:05Speaker 6: won the fight. The guy other guy actually ended up
- 1:44:07Speaker 6: getting some locks into and we were like, oh, this
- 1:44:09Speaker 6: is going south. But it was good.
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: I just imagine how jarring it is for a fan
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: to go to a game, like maybe they've never been
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: to a hockey game, aren't even aware that that's fighting,
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden, just like never in
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: real life are you really around, just a fight breaking
- 1:44:22Speaker 4: out and it happens.
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: I used to go to the cape Cod Cubs hockey
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: games at the cape Cod Coliseum. This is flights, and
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: there was a guy named Nick Fatile that at the
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: end of the second period they dimmed the lights, he'd
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: pick a guy, they'd go to center rice and he
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: beat the crap out of them, you know, And that
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: was like the main thing.
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: That was like the main ticket.
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: That's why we want to see Nick Fatile fight.
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: Like those ones. I just don't like that's like, I
- 1:44:45Speaker 6: don't think that hockey used to do that anymore. Like
- 1:44:47Speaker 6: sometimes you're out of Bruin's game and all of a sudden,
- 1:44:50Speaker 6: randomly they'll just drop the gloves and like at the
- 1:44:52Speaker 6: other end of the ice, and you're just like what happened?
- 1:44:54Speaker 6: Like did someone do something? But like when it's like
- 1:44:57Speaker 6: a star player is getting picked on or something, like,
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: you got to have that one guy on the team
- 1:45:01Speaker 6: that's gonna put an end to it. I'm for that.
- 1:45:04Speaker 4: And even still there are guys like Sam Bennett who
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: can play on that edge and never have to fight
- 1:45:09Speaker 4: and never have to fight.
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: That's why I think that guy needs to get right.
- 1:45:15Speaker 6: The Bruins tried who was.
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: The guy from the Flyers back in the in the seventies,
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: like the.
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: Bad No, No, he was the he was the orcer.
- 1:45:24Speaker 5: But the guy there was the jerk. He was a
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: great goal scorer, car Bobby Clark.
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: Bobby Clark, he was such a you know, like he
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: was a rat back in the day, and Dave Schultz
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: would just stick up for him all the time and
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: he'd get away with protection.
- 1:45:40Speaker 3: That's the like Charlestown Chiefs, the seventies Flyers, they didn't
- 1:45:46Speaker 3: play hockey.
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: Yeah, they they had a nickname, right, what was the nickname?
- 1:45:50Speaker 6: Broad Street Bully yet busy the Bruins tried to fight
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: Sam Bennett. I mean the Panthers beat the crap out
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: him every time they play. But Sam Bennett like did
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: some in front of the net last year and he
- 1:46:02Speaker 6: didn't realize it was a door who was standing there,
- 1:46:05Speaker 6: and so he thought it was it was somebody random
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: and it was a door off who's like Charisize, like
- 1:46:11Speaker 6: he's six eight, six' nine and it's a door off
- 1:46:13Speaker 6: just right hooked to the. Face And bennett just went
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: down like a sack of. Potatoes And panthers probably won the,
- 1:46:19Speaker 6: game like five to.
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: One we knocked them.
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: Out, yeah are you any more?
- 1:46:24Speaker 5: Games uh, no not right.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: Now but But matt writes In going to The break On, Tuesday,
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: Paul fred And evan were answering a question about if
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: they could go to any sporting, event what would it.
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: Be some Interesting wimbledon And World cup answers came from the,
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: panel But paul sneaky hilarious mumble just before the break

- 1:47:09Speaker 3: Exaggerating there's nothing they can unless they're they're putting an,
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: incentive financial incentive for me to be. There there's nothing
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: that they could not even IF.
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: I disagree with, You, Paul i've been to A World cup.
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: Game it's, amazing it's, amazing but.
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: It wouldn't be for. Me why BECAUSE i don't have any?
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: Interest what about the? Atmosphere it does nothing for.
- 1:47:29Speaker 6: Me if Like france And argentina are playing here and
- 1:47:35Speaker 6: you Have messy and like the best team in the
- 1:47:38Speaker 6: world In, france you have. None there's nothing about sports
- 1:47:42Speaker 6: in general that attracts you to, That, like there's no
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: there's no appeal to go see the greatest soccer player
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: of all time against the best team in the. World
- 1:47:49Speaker 6: like that's not that's not appealing team like to. Me for, Me,
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: no that's, crazy but it's it's like a moment.
- 1:47:56Speaker 5: Like it's like it's but it's not a moment for.
- 1:47:59Speaker 5: Me it's just, like you, KNOW i.
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: Onside of, him BUT i am very strongly like kind
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: of Like, paul Like i'd be, cool but like after
- 1:48:06Speaker 4: the first like ten, Minutes i'd probably be.
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: LIKE i want To i'd want to be and you,
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: know Like i'm like so deranged THAT i would actually
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: feel guilty that someone who would really appreciate this is
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: not getting the opportunity That i'm.
- 1:48:18Speaker 5: Getting that's how WHACKED i.
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: AM i just like someone else should be, here AND
- 1:48:24Speaker 6: i see like the history of, it like you don't
- 1:48:27Speaker 6: see the moment of something like.
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: THAT i don't have any interest in the. Moment but
- 1:48:32Speaker 5: THAT'S i, mean that's kind of along WHAT i.
- 1:48:33Speaker 4: Did we had an opportunity to get tickets to The messy,
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: game and LIKE i don't have any, interest BUT i
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: have a friend who's a humongous soccer, fan SO i.
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: Gave them to.
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: HER i gave to played four years of college soccer
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: at Stone. Hill you know his son plays now at
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: The DIVISION iii.
- 1:48:48Speaker 4: Level they're, going you're saying less is different Than World.
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: Cup they care, no but they but they care about
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: SEEING messi WHEN i thought this all started with the
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: greatest player of all. Time they care about seeing, MESSY i,
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: don't SO i got them in the.
- 1:49:05Speaker 5: Ticket it's pretty cool watching him un full speed with the.
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: Ball it's just like it's. Stuck he's. Unbelievable how does that?
- 1:49:10Speaker 5: Happen he's just so much better than everybody else.
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: Watched brandon writes In what's?
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: UP Pu?
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: Crew or SHOULD i call You sunshine Dot? Com with
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: all this over the top, positivity that's. Fine it's time
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: to be. Positive is the? Offseason since the majority of
- 1:49:26Speaker 2: The patriots nation believes this season should be a ten
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: win season or, Bust i'd like to do a thought
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: experiment in the opposite. Direction what do you do if
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: You're Robert kraft and The patriots only win four games
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: again this? Season because the context, Matters i'll give you
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: three ways the team gets to four. Wins scenario, One
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: Drake may's play plateaus or regresses and the offense. Struggles,
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: meanwhile the defense is middle of the road to. Elite scenario,
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: Two Drake may takes a year two, leap but the
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: rest of the team around him, struggles leading to A
- 1:49:59Speaker 2: Joe burrow Slash Drew brees esque season For.
- 1:50:02Speaker 5: May Drew brees had some pretty good.
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: Seasons scenario, Three Drake may goes down early and is
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: out for the season and the team cannot overcome.
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: It that's the only one that would be, okay.
- 1:50:14Speaker 6: That would be.
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: Okay, no but you, know winning four games.
- 1:50:19Speaker 3: Excuse the only one that would be an excuse is
- 1:50:22Speaker 3: your quarterback got hurt.
- 1:50:24Speaker 6: Already Jason tatum is already out for the. Year can
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: we just like one?
- 1:50:27Speaker 2: Person, like, so the question is what do you do
- 1:50:31Speaker 2: when these? Scenarios if You're Robert Drake.
- 1:50:33Speaker 3: May taking a step forward and only winning four, games
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: don't see. It it's like really hard to imagine that
- 1:50:38Speaker 3: would be, Bad.
- 1:50:39Speaker 6: Like even The bengals to, one like we're one game
- 1:50:41Speaker 6: away from the. Playoffs last year they win nine? Games,
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: yeah when when when it doesn't come into?
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: It Drew brees never had a season like.
- 1:50:47Speaker 6: That you, KNOW i get what he's saying, about like the,
- 1:50:50Speaker 6: stats like good, stats but bad.
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: Team but maybe they missed the, playoffs but not four, wins.
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: RIGHT i just no matter how it actually looks and
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: how you get, there it's going to be so hard
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: to blow it up.
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: Again LIKE i JUST i.
- 1:51:01Speaker 3: Can't, Okay so that's why the first one is the worst.
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: One so let's take scenario no bottoms out and he.
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: Ain't it's clear at the end of when we're doing
- 1:51:10Speaker 3: this show at this time next, year it's clear that
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: may ain't.
- 1:51:12Speaker 6: The guy we're talking, About Garrett.
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: Nesmeier that's the. Worst now you're in first. Scenario now
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: you're in. Trouble now you're really starting. Over, yeah, okay.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: Because you're willing to maybe not, overlook but you're willing
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: at least to pinch your nose and go forward with
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: the weaponry around. Him but it depends on him taking
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: a step and then trying to make something of. It
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: and if he, doesn't then you're then you got. Nothing
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: like anything else.
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: Though all the free agency brought in that are now you're,
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: in so you didn't get that free agent bump and,
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: now but.
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: Like anything, else the devil's in the, details like why
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: did he? Regress you, know like what's going on?
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: Here and even like you, know even if you want
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: to play the game of pin it all On josh,
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: McDaniels like, again.
- 1:51:52Speaker 5: It's hard to, say like year, three we're going to
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: have another.
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: SYSTEM i, mean what he had junior, year senior, year
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: first year, SET i, mean five systems in five.
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: Years it's it's a really really hard. Sell and what scenario.
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: Too it's hard for me to think that he takes
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: a year two leap and they only win four games
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: unless the defense is just.
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: HARD i find it really really tough to buy that, too,
- 1:52:15Speaker 3: right unless they've just fallen behind and he's getting.
- 1:52:17Speaker 5: A lot Of Reven Gardner chew's.
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: Stats, like so it looks like he's making a, leap
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: but really he.
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: Didn't it just.
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: Shows how much focus of the season is On Drake
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: may and how much not only depends on, him but
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: just maintaining belief amongst the fan base right, now because
- 1:52:36Speaker 4: people are generally positive on. Him maybe some more than,
- 1:52:39Speaker 4: others but generally you feel like you had a pretty
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: good year and that there's a lot of tools to work.
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: With but even if he ends up just kind of being,
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: middling and like even that is it's gonna be hard
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: to kind of navigate do we bring competition in for?
- 1:52:52Speaker 4: Him like are we having that conversation in year?
- 1:52:54Speaker 6: Three just, okay that's pretty premature to do that night.
- 1:52:57Speaker 5: Three IT'S i, mean it's, hard it's hard it's nothing. Ideal,
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: Yeah jared's In. Ohio, Hey, Jared.
- 1:53:05Speaker 22: Hey what's GOING i gotta boone the pick with you.
- 1:53:07Speaker 6: Guys oh, yeah, okay.
- 1:53:10Speaker 22: You guys have had On Tom. Douglas back In, march
- 1:53:13Speaker 22: y'all had him on the, show and y'all was talking.
- 1:53:15Speaker 13: So positive and stuff and laughing in.
- 1:53:17Speaker 22: Space but, Y'all i've been listening to y'all in the
- 1:53:20Speaker 22: past few, months and y'all down them. Thing he's not
- 1:53:22Speaker 22: a good.
- 1:53:22Speaker 13: Receiver he's not Gonna i'm.
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: Not gonna make the. Team who said?
- 1:53:25Speaker 22: THAT i didn't none of y'all say that the.

- 1:54:32Speaker 5: Negative when he was on the, show, YEAH i, mean
- 1:54:34Speaker 5: he's not a y'all.
- 1:54:35Speaker 22: Should have brunet up a couple of months ago when
- 1:54:37Speaker 22: he was on the. Show why y'all should have said?
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: That, so why is it, Our but, No, jared we're
- 1:54:43Speaker 5: not going to have a guest on the.
- 1:54:44Speaker 6: Show DO i have to tell him where he fits
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: in the hierarchy of the?
- 1:54:47Speaker 5: Offense, right y'all.
- 1:54:48Speaker 22: Was buttering y'all was buttering up and.
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: Buttering, well he's latter in his faith and. Stuff, well
- 1:54:53Speaker 5: we'll bring nice to him or what's wrong with?
- 1:54:55Speaker 22: That oh, so, y'all don't y'all don't be real.
- 1:54:57Speaker 5: ANYMORE i would be nice to him right now he
- 1:55:00Speaker 5: was on the.
- 1:55:00Speaker 6: Show what is not real about where we?
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: Think If martellus dial was on the, show i'd be
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: nice to sell. Us marcellus, THOUGH i, mean, LIKE i
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: think you're mixing up being nice to a guy with sitting.
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: There and evaluating his. Ability oh now you're going to
- 1:55:16Speaker 5: hang up even got under fred?
- 1:55:18Speaker 3: Skin, no BUT i.
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: THINK i think he's mixing up being nice to someone
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: with sitting there in front of him and telling him
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: your evaluation of him as a.
- 1:55:25Speaker 5: Player you're not going to do. That not a, coach
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: it's not my business to do.
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: THAT i can tell you as an analyst WHAT i
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: think about the team and the players and, Whatnot But
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: i'm not going to be disrespectful to a person that's
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: not MY i, think, like, yeah that.
- 1:55:38Speaker 6: So you're supposed to say to Tomorrow, Douglas, hey like
- 1:55:41Speaker 6: there's some rumors out there that you might be, traded,
- 1:55:43Speaker 6: RIGHT i guess we could. HAVE i don't.
- 1:55:46Speaker 2: KNOW i, MEAN i don't. Know jared hung, up but,
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: like what's the point of.
- 1:55:50Speaker 5: THAT i don't.
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: Know at the, GAME i think he's trying to get
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: us in like a gotcha, moment like you guys are
- 1:55:55Speaker 3: frauds because you didn't tell him that it's not a
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: lock to make the team to The space.
- 1:55:59Speaker 5: Right like why would we do? That? Why, like why
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: would you say that to? Anybody i'm at a.
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: LOSS i, MEAN i the only Thing i've said About
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: Pop douglas AND i kind of think he is a
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: log is THAT i thought he had a really good.
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: SPRING i know we had questions how he's going to
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: fit into this. System he was very active this. SPRING
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: i don't know what else he's.
- 1:56:14Speaker 6: Looking i've always been A pop. GUY i was pumped
- 1:56:16Speaker 6: when they drafted, him Like i've Always i'm always honest with.
- 1:56:20Speaker 3: You it's one of the reasons WHY i don't really
- 1:56:22Speaker 3: like player interviews because they're not, real they're not and that's,
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: Why like it's just common. Courtesy you don't like bring
- 1:56:30Speaker 3: a guy on your show so you can trash, him,
- 1:56:33Speaker 3: right or So Greg bdard is going to sit there and, say, Hey,
- 1:56:37Speaker 3: tomrio thanks for joining us. TODAY i don't think you're
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: going to make the. Team, like why Would greg do?
- 1:56:42Speaker 3: That that's not.
- 1:56:43Speaker 2: Professional, Now, now if you're talking like with an established
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: player and there's trade roomors circulating and he comes on
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: and it's not a team, show it's it's right the.
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: Regular you ask him how you react to the rumors
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: about you possibly being. Traded you should be asking, that
- 1:57:04Speaker 2: but not.
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: Us BUT i.
- 1:57:06Speaker 3: Didn't we also didn't, say, well you're clearly the best
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: receiver on the, Team.
- 1:57:09Speaker 6: Tomrio it's like we didn't do, that, right we're.
- 1:57:14Speaker 5: Asking me questions about his off.
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: Season of all the guys that accuse us of, FLAMING
- 1:57:18Speaker 4: i don't REALLY i don't remember ever Flaming Tomorroo.
- 1:57:21Speaker 5: Douglas but it's all. Good he's pretty upset about.
- 1:57:23Speaker 3: IT i think he has a chance to be another
- 1:57:27Speaker 3: one of these, productive high volume slot receivers That josh
- 1:57:30Speaker 3: McDaniels has.
- 1:57:31Speaker 5: LIKED i remember calling him to do. IT i remember
- 1:57:35Speaker 5: calling him a weapon and being. MOCKED i didn't mock,
- 1:57:39Speaker 5: you BUT i disagree with.
- 1:57:40Speaker 6: You there's a difference between us giving our opinions as
- 1:57:44Speaker 6: analysts on the show like we are doing right, now
- 1:57:46Speaker 6: and having a guy in for a player interview and
- 1:57:49Speaker 6: sitting him. Down it's not the point of the interview
- 1:57:53Speaker 6: him about where he thinks he fits into the, hierarchy
- 1:57:56Speaker 6: AND i just.
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: Say, LIKE i don't get what he's, saying because there's
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: Nothing i've said About Pop douglas on the show THAT
- 1:57:59Speaker 5: i wouldn't have said to his.
- 1:58:00Speaker 3: Face my biggest argument is that he claims that we
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: were negative About.
- 1:58:04Speaker 6: Douglas, NOW i don't think we have.
- 1:58:06Speaker 3: BEEN i don't think we are, today and somebody we
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: have been in the ensuing shows that we've had since
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: he's been, on somebody had a. Report someone had a
- 1:58:13Speaker 3: report that said that they don't think he's a lock
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: to make the. Roster that's not. Negative there's competition among
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: the wide receiver.
- 1:58:21Speaker 2: Room and if we said he was you, know we
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: think he could be a good fourth, receiver.
- 1:58:25Speaker 5: That's not negative.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: Either.
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: No, right, well, listen but when he's sitting, here we're
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: not going to, say you, know the, best we think
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: you could be as a fourth.
- 1:58:31Speaker 5: Receiver why would we do?
- 1:58:32Speaker 6: THAT i think that he Was we tried to explain
- 1:58:37Speaker 6: that that it was we're going off Of greg's reporting
- 1:58:41Speaker 6: and not something that one of us. Said AND i
- 1:58:43Speaker 6: don't think he was really comprehending That greg is not
- 1:58:45Speaker 6: sitting here with us right, now. Right SO i think
- 1:58:48Speaker 6: that's and they.
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: Were comparing between him and Mac, hollis who's more of
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: A Locke Hollins.
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: HOLLINS i don't know why.
- 1:58:56Speaker 19: Him.
- 1:58:56Speaker 6: TOO i don't think he's ever shown any dynamic.
- 1:58:59Speaker 2: Ability yeah To Mario, Douglas, yeah you're talking About pop, now.
- 1:59:07Speaker 5: AND i would agree with.
- 1:59:08Speaker 3: THAT i think, he's you, know sort of like one
- 1:59:10Speaker 3: of those underneath guys THAT i think can be a
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: bigger part if McDaniels likes. HIM i think he could
- 1:59:17Speaker 3: be more of a high volume Like welker. Was but
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: LIKE i wouldn't Say welker was like a dynamic downfield, receiver,
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: no but he caught one hundred and twenty balls every, year.
- 1:59:26Speaker 5: Right and the question is Like, pop can you could
- 1:59:28Speaker 5: you hold up to?
- 1:59:29Speaker 6: That but you do that.
- 1:59:30Speaker 2: WELL i think McDaniels might be looking for the BANKY
- 1:59:33Speaker 2: i don't Think pop is.
- 1:59:35Speaker 5: A banky type. Guy well he might, be we'll. See,
- 1:59:39Speaker 5: YEAH i don't, know you.
- 1:59:40Speaker 23: KNOW i mean of all the receivers that we have
- 1:59:43Speaker 23: talked about and analyzed, here of, everybody all of, them like,
- 1:59:47Speaker 23: Tomorrow douglas is in like probably the top five of
- 1:59:49Speaker 23: guys THAT i just think can contribute and have a
- 1:59:52Speaker 23: role on this.
- 1:59:52Speaker 5: Team and that's like high praise from my point of.
- 1:59:55Speaker 5: View totally get What greg's, saying like this is suffered,
- 1:59:58Speaker 5: debate but we've never that, guy and believe.
- 2:00:01Speaker 3: Somebody that's my my number one problem with the assertion
- 2:00:05Speaker 3: is that we were negative to. THEM i don't think
- 2:00:07Speaker 3: we have, been AND i don't think we were in the.
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: Past, meanwhile two emails before calling Us sunshine dot, com so.
- 2:00:14Speaker 5: You know you mean you're probably doing something. Right you can't?
