- 0:00SPEAKER_02: The actual path from insecurity to betrayal, dirty text, dick pics, and boiling over.
- 0:05SPEAKER_02: Stop using boundaries, guys.
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: You have an apology problem.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: You are holding yourself back.
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: What you can do or what to do when you're not having sex.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: You've never seen us in action.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: There is always something that you need to do better.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: The actual path from insecurity to betrayal.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: Welcome to the More Marriage Podcast, guys.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: And I thought it would be super, super fun to do an episode on this because obviously a great deal of you think betrayals are like the worst thing that can happen.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: And they are.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: I really think they are one of the top things that you could ever have to go through.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: But you have a different thought process about the betrayal because it hurts so freaking bad and it's easy to victimize yourself.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: But I want to talk specifically about one path that is one of the most common.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: Or there's many paths that can happen, but you're almost always going to, another way to look at this, you're always going to be bringing this pattern in and where insecurity will actually not just be the root uh any longer, but now the supporting factor to creating the betrayal.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: So welcome to Moral Marriage Podcast, guys.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: This one is gonna be fun.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: I did a reel on this recently and it's blown up.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: Okay, and so I thought it just would be fun to go deeper.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: So, baby, yes, insecurity.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: We struggled with insecurity like a mother.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Like all 17 of you?
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: 17 of me fighting for uh more like seven, I guess, but yeah, just fighting for proof that my wife was not having an affair, proof that my wife loved me.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, what you guys will find when you start to really understand.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Hold on, pause.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Did you notice what he said, guys?
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Proof that my wife was having an affair.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: The other side is what he really wanted was proof my wife loved me.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: So looking for reasons to think that there was an affair in an attempt to prove to himself that I loved him.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Because it's two sides of the same coin.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Because it's easier to sabotage than accept the love that's in front of you.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: Now let me walk you through it so you understand it.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: So this could be anything, guys.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: Um, anything small that's just abnormal.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: It doesn't add up, okay?
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: Now, typically this will happen when there is uh a disconnect between you, okay?
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: So let's say you're not getting along as much, you're not having as much fun, you're definitely probably not having sex or quality sex.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Um, but it doesn't always have to be that way.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Quite often, things can be going perfect.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: And what do dumbasses do, honey, like me?
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Sabotage.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Sabotage.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Okay, so uh, and by the way, this is old me, okay.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Everything I'm about to describe is like a pattern.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: I'll even try to drop in some some of our story here.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: But you guys can all relate, I'm sure.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: So it could be anything small, guys.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: Um, let's just say the the something was forgotten at uh the grocery store, okay?
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Let's use a really common example.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: Actually, it's more fun.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: Let's say the toilet paper roll is on a different direction than your partner normally puts the toilet paper roll on.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Which happened to me.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Happened in our life, yes.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Obviously, a man put it on opposite.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Well, if my wife always puts the toilet paper with the roll going over, then if it's going backwards, man, who the fuck is Banana in my house?
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: Now, here's the thing.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: In the very beginning, when something like this happens, you don't just necessarily uh think that there's something out of whack and like there must be an affair.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: Because remember, this is the path from how insecurity leads towards betrayal.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: So what happens is that little thing that's off, let's say the toilet paper roll, okay?
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: What would be the grocery example?
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: You forget something at the grocery store.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Uh, because that okay, that's a really good question.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: Uh uh because that doesn't mean necessarily there's an affair, but it means you start to feel unthought of.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: Like, how dare you forget the coffee cream?
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: You're not thinking of me.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Typically, looking for a reason to be mad at it.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: Yes, and I'm glad you brought that up because here's why.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: So you might not do anything with these little examples.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: Let's stick with the toilet for a second, but you store it away in your mind.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: You put it in a vault, okay?
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: And so the moment something like um not being thought of at the grocery store happens, you start to accumulate all of these things.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: And what happens is you're stacking evidence for an accusation or a question, and you think you sound secure and are safe, but you start to actually accuse and attack your partner, interrogate your partner.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: So let's keep going with this for a second.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: The toilet paper thing happens, and then what happens is she was late.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: She was late, she was late.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Uh coming home.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: She was 20 minutes longer than normal.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: Here's actually here's a really good example from our own life.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Okay, by the way, toilet paper later found out my five-year-old son was able to switch the toilet paper on.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Me, uh, put sorry, put the toilet paper roll on.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: There was other little examples.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Toilet seat, toilet seat could be up.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: Who the fuck was in my house?
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: A man left the toilet seat up, or my wife might have cleaned the toilet.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, which is that which is what happened.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which is what happened.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: You guys have heard us tell these stories.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: These are these are actual stories from our example from our from these examples, okay?
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: So now they start to stack.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: The the 20-minute late story in our marriage was one time Catherine was 10 minutes late to coming to the workout, workout at the gym, and right after she walked in, like basically immediately, a man walked in behind her.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: So my mind remembered things like the toilet paper or the toilet seat, and assumed these two must have quickly had a bang on the side of the street, parked before they came into the gym.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: You don't always store sometimes you just store this up and store this up.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Depending on your level of connection, as these stories stack, you start asking questions.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Let's go with a few different ways you do this.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: You sound really insecure, but you think you sound fine, but you're like, the toilet paper, so uh just notice how to on the other way.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: And if you ask any sane person, okay, or let's call it emotionally intelligent person, they'll be like, oh, I didn't even realize.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: Because obviously, if that's their way of doing it, maybe they just really need to wipe quick.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: I don't fucking know.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: But the point is they're like, uh not sure even how to answer that.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: But see, you don't necessarily go too far with it.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: But by the time you start to go too far with it, you start to get real bad.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Look, that story with the gym, later, so you try to hold it in.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: Because, no, no, I trust.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: I trust.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: And then you start to hold it in until you can't hold it in.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: And then it's like, why were you late this morning, babe?
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Like, what happened?
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: Was it just stuff getting out with the dogs or whatever?
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, I don't, whatever it was.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: Maybe there was snow that day.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: Who the fuck knows?
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: Um, and then uh, depending on your level of connection and how insecurity has taken over you, you start to remember, yeah, but so you were just late because of the snow?
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: Because I drove through the same snow like 10 minutes prior, right?
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: So the accusations started to come, meaning I'm already accused you're not necessarily cheating, but of lying.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: And then you start to, you're not getting what you want.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Remember, we're looking for proof here that we love, but we're more often than not sabotager.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: Well, I do want to trust, so I'm trying to be soft.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: Oh no, baby, it's it's just that there was this guy, he came in behind you, Kevin or whatever his name is, comes in behind you, right?
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: And she's again like, uh cool, slept in, I don't know.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, so it's a different story now.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: You see the accusations start to get a little bit bigger.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: I'm like, and then really, I I probably, and I don't remember this exact back and forth.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: I remember the situation um in the example, but I I remember being blindsided when he started asking the questions.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: And you ac I like I probably didn't even know why I was ten minutes late, because I was ten minutes late a lot.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: And you didn't fucking care.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: It's like it was a workout, it's like whatever.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: I didn't care.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Like why am I late?
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Like I literally didn't know.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Maybe it was the dogs, maybe it was the snow, maybe it was a combination of the above.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: But then by that time, if I said, Yeah, probably the snow.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, well, maybe the dog, maybe you know, now that I think about it, like Finn took a little bit extra time to poop this morning.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Oh now, now you know that Finn took extra time to poop with somebody.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: See, now you're caught in a lie, right?
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: So the s which isn't a lie, you're not caught in anything.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Now you're caught in a shit storm, is what you're caught in.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Because now you're like, there's nothing you can say that comes out of your mouth that could be good.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: And remember, we haven't even got to betrayal yet, okay?
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: But right now, all of these things are building an even deeper disconnection, and you're putting someone on the spot.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: In essence, you start scorekeeping as you stack these files away, and you start bringing them up, depending if it's this one or how insecure you get on the next one.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: You start saying, Yeah, but the toilet seat was up that day too.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: And one story in our life you might have heard is that the thermostat.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: Who the fuck was here?
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: You don't know how to change the electronic thermostat, the temperature on it.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: Well, she figured it out because it was really fucking hot in the house.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: But you start throwing all these things out, even if you think you sound normal, you start bringing it all up.
- 8:13SPEAKER_02: And now what's happening?
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: Remember, we're not at the betrayal yet.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: And we didn't get to the betrayal.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: No.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: But it but a lot of people do.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: And what happens is more and more evidence of just basic stuff that's not really real is starting to prove that they're lying andor starting to cause suspect in your mind.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: And so you'll start to see things that are much bigger, like uh many of us have Friend Finder or Life 360 or whatever.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, Catherine loves to use that app because she likes to know when I'm gonna come home.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: The other day I came home from the airport and her and the kids are racing down to pick me up in a golf cart, right?
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: And so the only reason I knew that was because I checked his location on my phone.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: And so there was a time though when I used it because I was very, very insecure.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: What do I do?
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: I go looking for evidence.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: Wait a minute, you're at the park.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: What are you doing at the park, babe?
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: Now, she doesn't know yet that I'm about to say, who are you fucking?
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, but at this point, I probably suspected that's true.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's true.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: Because I mean, you learn after this happens a couple times, you learn that you better understand where you are and why you're there and why you're late and who you're with.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: You have to have your story straight because otherwise being a normal person and answering normally is never gonna be good enough for the person that's asking these questions.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: And by the way, because they don't believe the normal answer.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: So you have to have you need to be able to back up your truth.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Which is a terrible place to be.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Even then it doesn't really work.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'll give you an example.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: Um, Catherine ended up trying to show me, so where are you right now, babe?
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: And I said, Oh, I'm working, training in the class with the gym.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: We'll finish the where are you and I was at the park.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: So that's my app showed that I was at there was this little water park just across the street from our house.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: So somehow it would show that I was over there.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: So I was like, No, I'm at home.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: And he was like, No, you're not.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: I can see that you're at the park.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Well, I'm really in our living room or wherever I was.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: So then I had to show him.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: One day he was working, and I sent him a screenshot where it showed that he was at Starbucks or something across the street.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: And he's like, No, I'm working.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: I was like, I know, I'm just showing you that it's not a perfect GPS.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: It shows you right now, I should have said, Who are you fucking at, Starbucks?
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: I didn't, I was not trying to be cruel.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: And here's the problem the reason why that's no good, even though it's really good, is with disconnection, all that happens is I'm already insecure and now I feel stupid.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Now I feel bad, right?
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: And so that causes me not to be indefensive, but causes me not to feel good, which is what's fueling insecurity already.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: Now, none of this is actually the betrayal yet, okay?
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: And we didn't, as Catherine mentioned.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: But here with our clients, what we see all the time.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Well, you he did push me away though.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, yeah, it didn't make me love him more.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: So here he is searching for love, trying to find proof of love, and every time he does this, it's like putting a bigger and bigger and bigger space between us.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: Between us.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: So it's causing disconnection.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Did I cheat?
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Was there betrayal?
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: No.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: But during all of this, remember I said on a few quite a few podcast episodes ago, I didn't cheat.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: But I thought about it.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: I didn't have any specific person, but I thought about what it might be like to be with someone else that wasn't treating me the this way.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: If I wasn't with him, what would it be like to be with someone else?
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: I didn't act on it, I didn't let my eyes go astray, but I did think about it.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: So now actually understand how somebody does act on it.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: It doesn't start with another person, you guys.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: Very rarely.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: It starts with creating space for themselves, hiding uh and scrolling on the phone.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: It starts with going out more with friends.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: It starts with diving more into whatever they're interested in, maybe reading a book or watching a show that can give them the kind of feelings and endorphins they want because they're not getting them from you, okay?
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: And all of this is something that builds them up, makes them feel good, i.e.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: safe.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Now here's the problem.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: Now you start talking to people because you inherently are becoming like everyone else, where this isn't fair, and it's not fair, but the outside world makes you feel validated for this unfair life that you have.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: Whether it's your friends, your family, the chick at Starbucks, that person in the office that is just getting along really well with work, you get along really well all the time, you get things done together, you feel i.e.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: connected, okay?
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: And pretty soon you start talking inappropriately about your life, and you get that validation.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: And pretty soon that validation turns into better feelings, more jokes, the justifications about why it's okay.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: And then pretty soon that turns into inappropriate timing of messages, sending a message, um, not caring that your partner's hurting.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: By member, the insecure person's getting worse.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: All these talks that they're having, all these things they're stacking and saving and filing away, it's all building and building and building the insecure's mind.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: So everything that's happening as your partner pulls away causes the insecure person to go back harder and worse.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: Listen to my song Kill the Monster, by the way.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: Um, because insecurity is a monster and it pushes and pushes it.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: It's such a good thing.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Somebody said one of your one of your coaches said said to you something.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: Um, the partner said that was not insecure said, I'm not pulling away, you're pushing me away.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: That's how Catherine described it a few moments ago, too, a few minutes ago, with what I was doing.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: I was building the space bigger, the bricks between us, bigger.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: So there's a big difference between pulling away and being pushed away.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: I want you guys to think about that.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: Now, go back to that part where we said um, you don't feel good enough.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: So typically then you'll get to a point where you don't want to push them away.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: You recognize you're pushing them away, and so you love on them and you love on them and you love them, which is essentially smothering them because they're already pulling away, or being pushed away rather, and they want space until eventually something actually does feel better.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: They can justify why, yeah, you know what, I would like to go for a drink with you after work, and it goes too far.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: And we you guys all know what goes too far means.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: It that that's also DMing and scrolling, not on your phone, like doggy rescues.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: Now you're now you're actually DMing or looking at pictures.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: Oh well, DMing would be after the pictures usually.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: Like the dating sites, the actual affair, okay?
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: The justifications in your mind because it isn't fair.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: And see, all that happened is you fed insecurity.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: So the gist is this insecurity is there.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: And then what happens is the little things that are not even close to what could possibly be going on, the insecurity makes them into something for you.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: Your mind goes in far too many directions.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: You need to prove that you're loved and that they're hurting you, typically is the response that you want because you can't prove it, because you can't feel it, and you ultimately get someone pushed away enough to where something else feels better.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: And when something else feels better, again, not necessarily another person, eventually a person will be there.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: And that's why I have viral stuff that's like another man is waiting for your wife, right?
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Like these things go viral because when you start to understand you're pushing them away so far, every time you want proof of their love, they can't possibly win.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: That ultimately you're making them unsafe.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Your talks are not talks or lectures, and ultimately they just find peace somewhere else, which is why another thing goes viral all the time.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: She will leave for peace.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Like, guys, it doesn't matter.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: You cannot win.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: Kill the monster in my song.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: In the meantime, guys, if you can't get a hold of insecurity, you're gonna need to do something like work with us.
