- 0:00Please let me merge. My mom is dead this week on that
- 0:05car show you asked. We delivered it's crew show and
- 0:09anything goes. Socal car meetups, new press
- 0:13cars. Dan gets suggested with the new
- 0:15Mustang. Somehow it's been 25 years of
- 0:18Fast and furious. We bitch about customer service
- 0:22at luxury car dealerships. Ford gets cheap and the best
- 0:26year to have walked into a Ferrari dealership.
- 0:29It's that car show. Hello and welcome to this week's
- 0:33That Car Show. It is a crew show.
- 0:35Once again, we're all back as a gang.
- 0:37How's everyone doing? It's so good to see you guys.
- 0:40It's been a it's been a few, few shows, yeah.
- 0:43I know a. Minute, yeah, that's great.
- 0:46Guests though. I've had three people say to me
- 0:48when is the next crew show? So here is your answer.
- 0:51It is now and today. We are here to answer and give
- 0:56you what you want. Yeah, and all our glory.
- 0:58I've got a question for you guys.
- 0:59What do the following podcasts have in common?
- 1:02Are you ready? Ready.
- 1:04Take a little bit of thinking. OK?
- 1:06The Car Mudgeon Show. Good show.
- 1:10The auto car show. OK.
- 1:15Seen through glass. Our first fan.
- 1:21Smith and sniff, That's not an easy one to say after a couple
- 1:24of pints. Yeah, out of the UK, yeah.
- 1:28My friends at the Dirtfish Spin Rally podcast and the Car
- 1:35Throttle podcast. What do they all have in common?
- 1:40I feel like we need the Jeopardy theme, yeah.
- 1:41Yeah, a few moments later, Right.
- 1:45The answer is that they are all not quite as popular as us in
- 1:51Korea. To our friends in South Korea,
- 1:55thank you for making US1 of your favourites.
- 1:59As Ricky Bobby says, if you're not first, you're last.
- 2:03But we're not quite last, but we're definitely not first.
- 2:05But we've got room to grow and we've got some good, good
- 2:09competition actually behind us for once, yeah.
- 2:11Right. Yeah, Jake and bake, baby.
- 2:15We appreciate it, Korea. Thank you.
- 2:17Yeah, I'm going to move on quickly.
- 2:19We're not going to look at the US charts right now because I
- 2:21think it'd be a different story, but yeah.
- 2:24Although we have been doing well there, I would say we would be
- 2:27proud of our performance there too, so.
- 2:29We broke the top 50 the other week.
- 2:31That's right. And if anyone knows anything
- 2:33about the the US podcast, podcast charts, that is a
- 2:37difficult group to break into. So and I think it was the the
- 2:41show with Lynn. So well done to you guys.
- 2:44Well, thank you to our listeners and fans of the show it.
- 2:49Was a good one, but you're not going to mention Peru.
- 2:51I we talked about that on another recording, which will
- 2:54either come out before or after this one.
- 2:56OK. But where were we in Peru?
- 2:59Number one, we're like the one regularly #1 in Peru, which is.
- 3:03We're huge in Peru. It's.
- 3:05A count, you know, country of 40 million people, you know, and I
- 3:08don't. Be wrong.
- 3:10That's what I'm saying. That's, I mean, come on, I love
- 3:13it. Well, thank you to our Peruvian
- 3:15friends. Yeah, and you know, we gave them
- 3:19the podcast. They gave us Paddington Bears.
- 3:21It's a good deal in my head. I think it's a pretty fair
- 3:24trade. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:26You know there's a car connection there, right?
- 3:28You know that Jeremy Clarkson's mom was the one responsible for
- 3:32bringing the Paddington stories to the masses, I believe the
- 3:34story goes. So that's right now, you know, I
- 3:39told you they knew their their cars.
- 3:40They're true enthusiasts all. Yeah.
- 3:42I do, and if we can stay that way for another two months, we
- 3:46will dress Ryan up as Paddington Bear for the holiday special
- 3:51and. If that's not motivation, I
- 3:52don't know what. It you know, my whole body looks
- 3:54just like I'm already halfway there.
- 3:56Dad kidding? There's a fair joke and there's
- 3:59somewhere. This is true.
- 4:01What have we been up to, folks? Have we been doing any driving?
- 4:05I think there's been a lot of driving going on.
- 4:06I think Ryan's the most recent though.
- 4:08Do you want to tell us what you got up to today?
- 4:11I'll make this quick 'cause I think you've got a better
- 4:12driving story than I, Lindsay, but you got the GT4 out today.
- 4:15Beautiful. There's like 73°.
- 4:17You know, there's a whole other story there.
- 4:19Maybe the world is ending but got out for a drive and in the.
- 4:21Meantime, you're going to go for a.
- 4:23Drive. I'm going to get some drive.
- 4:25Well, you know, I've got a I've got a service coming up in this
- 4:27car and it's do new tires, but I'm not quite there.
- 4:30So I'm trying to burn off, you know, you're.
- 4:32Trying to get there more quickly.
- 4:33The wear bars, yeah. So decided up to Golden Gate
- 4:36Canyon, if you know Golden Gate here in Denver, and was
- 4:39immediately behind a 4 runner rolling roadblock with a bumper
- 4:44sticker that said please let me merge.
- 4:47My mom is dead, which I should have known if that's their kind
- 4:52of humor, that they were not going to get out of my way.
- 4:55They then proceeded to do 27 miles an hour up the whole
- 4:58Canyon. When I finally had a chance to
- 5:01pass my Valentine, one started going off KA band and the only
- 5:06vehicle I saw was a red pickup truck.
- 5:08And I said, surely this, you know, must be a, you know, junk
- 5:11signal or something. No, If you live here in the
- 5:15Denver area, watch out because it must be Clear Creek County.
- 5:18But up there by Golden Gate State Park, there are there are
- 5:22at least two unmarked pickup trucks, Ford F-150 or two
- 5:25fifties. One's red, one's white.
- 5:27They don't even have government plates on them.
- 5:29No visible lights or anything. One black antenna on the top and
- 5:33they were both shooting KA band. And they wanted to get me so
- 5:36bad. And it turned into this game
- 5:39where, like, he'd pull off, so I'd pull off behind him, you
- 5:42know? Well, who's going to go first,
- 5:44you know? After you?
- 5:46No. After.
- 5:46Yeah, yeah. All they wanted was a drive.
- 5:51You don't. Ask for much, right?
- 5:53I don't ask for much. I don't ask for much.
- 5:56You know, some sometimes the the stars align and other times they
- 5:59don't. And today was was one of those
- 6:01days. But any day behind the wheels,
- 6:03still better than sitting at home or sitting in office or
- 6:05anything like that. But.
- 6:07That is true. You had a an amazing drive
- 6:10because I saw pictures and you talk about like juxtapositions
- 6:13of cars, right? They're driving together, right?
- 6:16You you had a couple fun ones out.
- 6:18Yeah, so my daughter had, and your daughter may have had this.
- 6:22There's a midwinter break in a lot of schools and hers was a
- 6:24couple weeks ago. And so five days off and we
- 6:27usually will try to go to Utah for a family ski trip and like
- 6:31get the cousins together and all that.
- 6:33Southern Utah really does not have snow right now.
- 6:35So we ended up pivoting and just going to Orange County.
- 6:38Just, you know, that's still a vacation for.
- 6:41US. Beautiful, right?
- 6:43So the plan was like OK we're not skiing let's just focus on
- 6:48family time. And I'm very lucky that my whole
- 6:51family loves to go for a drive. So we ended up getting to do 2
- 6:56really like just magical drives. And actually both were very
- 7:01unique 2 car solutions. The first one was just Tori and
- 7:06my daughter and I and one of the dogs and we took Tori's bad
- 7:10temper 2 bug and my parents F-250 pickup truck.
- 7:14So it was a study in contrast and we went into like people in
- 7:20Orange County and Southern California will be familiar with
- 7:22Santiago Canyon Road. And then off of that is
- 7:24Silverado Canyon and Majuska Canyon and all three of them
- 7:29wonderful driving roads. And there's a place called Cooks
- 7:31Corner, which is off of Santiago Canyon, which you may or may not
- 7:34have heard of, but it opened in 1884 actually.
- 7:38And it is considered to be one of the most famous biker
- 7:40Hangouts on restaurants in Southern California.
- 7:43And I remember, you know, my dad and I, when we would go do
- 7:46Canyon drives when I was in high school, we would go by Cook's
- 7:48Corner. So my daughter got to see it.
- 7:51But we took the bug and the truck.
- 7:53And, you know, it's a beautiful sunny day in Southern
- 7:56California. The roads were wide open.
- 7:59And the truck is not your typical, like Canyon Carver.
- 8:03And it's a diesel. The throttle is pretty
- 8:05sensitive. So you can like, even if you're
- 8:08stepping on it gently, it Revs pretty quickly.
- 8:12So I gave myself the challenge like, OK, this is not your
- 8:14typical car that you'd go for a Canyon cruise.
- 8:18I'm going to try and drive it as smoothly as possible, like keep
- 8:21it as balanced as I can because it's a heavy vehicle and like
- 8:26drive it as smoothly as possible without losing any extra speed.
- 8:30You know, windy, tight turns. And one of the roads was very,
- 8:33very narrow with like trees hanging over.
- 8:35And you know, it made it a really fun engaging drive.
- 8:39And I had one of the dogs was with us and she likes to sit on
- 8:42the console, so that was a good barometer.
- 8:45Like if I can keep her stable and not sliding all over the
- 8:47place. It's weird.
- 8:48Because she's a German Shepherd super.
- 8:50Strange, but you know, those F2 fifties are good size, right?
- 8:53And it's so fun, as you guys know, to just go for a drive
- 8:57with other cars that are kind of put a group together and go
- 9:00drive together. So that made it really fun to
- 9:03have, you know, Tori and I together driving and I haven't
- 9:07been back on those roads in a long time.
- 9:09One of them we turned to go on to this one Canyon and there
- 9:13were two horses coming down the road, so.
- 9:16Yeah. So it just, it was like we just
- 9:19didn't know what we were going to find.
- 9:21It was, you know, it's, it's so nice, especially we've all lived
- 9:24in climates where there are seasons, we're driving is not,
- 9:29you know, feasible. And we're kind of in the middle
- 9:31of that in the Pacific Northwest.
- 9:33So it was really nice to get to do that this time of year and
- 9:38you know, it's just nice to get out and get behind the wheel and
- 9:40be in the sun and just just be out so.
- 9:45For those not aware, what is bad temper 2 and why is it called
- 9:49bad temper 2? So it is the second bad temper.
- 9:54There was a bad temper and it was red.
- 9:58We're on the state, the obvious bed, but go on.
- 10:01So this is bad temper too. So bad.
- 10:04Temper, yeah. Extra bad temper now with extra
- 10:08bad temper. So it was a bug that was put
- 10:11together. For those that are familiar with
- 10:13VWS, it was one of the cowl look bugs which had illustrations on
- 10:18the side or lettering and they had names, most of them and a
- 10:22lot of them were drag raced I believe.
- 10:24So this is a drag bug, and it was big in the LA scene in the
- 10:2880s. At one point it was abandoned.
- 10:31Someone had built it, you know, took care of it and then sold
- 10:35it. And then somebody he knew found
- 10:37it years later, totally abandoned on the street in LA.
- 10:40They lost. Their temper, they.
- 10:42Lost their temper and abandoned the car and he ended up getting
- 10:46reconnected with it. It was restored, but yeah, but
- 10:50it's. Like an iconic, like it is car,
- 10:53right? If you're in the know.
- 10:54And yeah, like, they're like heartbeat lines and like, all
- 10:57kinds of like 80s kind of. On there was a pink one there
- 11:02there was a pink one there was the original bad the red bad
- 11:04temper then this one bad temper 2 which is actually grabber
- 11:08blue, which is a Ford Mustang color.
- 11:10So, you know, the signs were that was written in the stars.
- 11:15But yeah, so towards the caretaker of it now, and I am
- 11:19now too. But it's a super fun car.
- 11:23And so the second drive that we took over the weekend, which was
- 11:27the other, you know, unique 2 car solution was Bad temper 2
- 11:31and the 289 Shelby Cobra. And those two cars are evenly
- 11:38matched in terms of driving on the street spiritedly.
- 11:42And we had a great time. Yeah, there was a comment from
- 11:45the Cobra that they didn't realize the bug was as fast as
- 11:48it is. Do you think Carol Shelby is
- 11:50turning in his grave now? Because in essence, he's spent
- 11:54all this time and investment on developing this car and and
- 11:57someone's come along and put an engine in a Beetle, right?
- 12:02No. You know what, I think Carol
- 12:04would be thrilled because I heard him say this and my
- 12:08parents heard him say this a few times, like he built these cars
- 12:10to be driven. And so I think he would be so
- 12:12thrilled to see that we're actually out enjoying the car
- 12:17and my daughter rode in it and the next generation is enjoying
- 12:21it. And you should have seen we took
- 12:24those two and my parents and my daughter and Tori and I, and we
- 12:26all went to Crystal Cove. And that's their, that was the
- 12:31start of one of the big cars and coffees.
- 12:33And then I moved to the Ford headquarters.
- 12:35But people still go just because Southern California is such a
- 12:38car culture. So they'll still stop in for
- 12:40coffee. And so there's always a good,
- 12:44you know, small but sort of like a high value gathering of cars.
- 12:49And it was really fun to see the reaction when we pulled in in
- 12:53the cars because the crowd around the Cobra, it was so fun.
- 12:57And all these people came up with stories like, Oh, my dad
- 13:00was really into these or, you know, my family had one and.
- 13:03How many people ask you if it's real at an event like that?
- 13:06Like you must get that a lot. And then when you say yes,
- 13:10right, they are, I mean and. You know, part of it too is like
- 13:13we're kind of in and out, like getting coffee and looking at
- 13:15the other cars that were there. I mean, it was an amazing
- 13:18morning there outside of what, you know, we showed up, right?
- 13:22My dad was probably with it the most just talking to people.
- 13:26But as he and I were getting in it to go home, this man came up
- 13:29and he's like, is, is it real? And, you know, he shared his
- 13:33family had had a GT350 and I think he'd had a Cobra
- 13:36connection, but he just, he was like stunned speechless because
- 13:40you don't really see them out often.
- 13:42So that was really cool. Now I hear the one of the ways
- 13:46to tell, and I'm no expert on these, is to do with the
- 13:49indicator storks. Is that right?
- 13:52That's a good question. I'm still, I mean, I'm still
- 13:55learning too. And like there are some tells
- 13:58and a lot of the replica companies there's like a name
- 14:01plate and it'll say, you know, like super performance or you
- 14:06know, some of the other ones. Factory 5 is a is another one
- 14:09that's well regarded. But I will find out, yeah.
- 14:12It was interesting. I then I was at the old, old
- 14:14place and there was a gentleman with a real 1 and I said how do
- 14:19you tell? And he said it was something to
- 14:20do with the indicator storks. So maybe if folks are listening
- 14:24and they know, maybe they could drop a comment on this.
- 14:26Now how do you tell if it's a real Cobra or a a kit car?
- 14:31I will ask my source but. Go on.
- 14:34No, I wanted to share the other cars that we got to see that day
- 14:38just quickly. So there was a Velocity Bronco
- 14:40in this amazing metallic root beer brown, absolutely gorgeous.
- 14:44There were 10 to 15 modern M3 and M fours that all showed up
- 14:49together. It was like the M Armada and
- 14:51that was really fun. I bet you.
- 14:53Heard them coming, we did. There was a beautiful red 2002,
- 14:57there was a GT3 and AGT 4 Rs. There was one of the Porsche
- 15:02Ticon Turbo GTS in the purple Sky Metallic, which was their
- 15:07launch color I think, and those are 1092 horsepower, so that's
- 15:12crazy. That's just stealthily went
- 15:13through the parking lot. We saw two bright blue Ferraris,
- 15:17which is unusual. There was an absolutely gorgeous
- 15:191960 Mercedes-Benz 220SE and it was a cab and they only made
- 15:2611112 of those of the cabriolets and it was, it had been
- 15:30restored. Absolutely gorgeous.
- 15:31Several GT threes, as you'd expect.
- 15:33Several G wagons. My favorite was like an acid
- 15:36Birch green one. I just loved it.
- 15:39A beautiful blue Bentley Cabriolet, a Riviera Blue 993
- 15:44Some Defenders and a a 918 Spider.
- 15:48That's a well-rounded mix, yeah. We were like, I'm, I'm good.
- 15:53Dan, were you there? I was not.
- 15:57Yeah, unfortunately, no. Superman spec boxers I know.
- 16:01Well, next time we'll have to coordinate.
- 16:02It was such a last minute kind of thrown together trip, but
- 16:07next time we'll have to make it more official and, you know, and
- 16:09we can meet up. Yeah, it.
- 16:10Sounds like fun. I I've had a couple of press
- 16:12cars lately. Muscle car was an automatic this
- 16:19time. Mustang.
- 16:20Dark Horse. Oh.
- 16:22So what did you think? Having had the manual, what are
- 16:25your thoughts now? Yeah.
- 16:26Well, I mean so I've driven the EcoBoost, the regular V8 GT, the
- 16:32dark horse Manual and the dark Horse Auto.
- 16:36So I think I've got the full gambit covered and I'll tell you
- 16:39my favorite I think is the V8 GT manual.
- 16:44The dark horse is just too powerful for the ride, which is
- 16:50over 500 horsepower. There may be a video featuring
- 16:54it on the car wow website right now, which is the same car.
- 16:58I had to get it basically bring it back after the shoot and to
- 17:02it had been completely, completely used as its intended
- 17:06and then I got the keys. But I I just don't think, I
- 17:10think it's too powerful. Sorry, there's a joke there
- 17:14somewhere. Which bit used as intended, then
- 17:17you get tossed the keys, right? Yeah.
- 17:20Yeah. I mean, the jokes practically
- 17:21right themselves. Yeah, all they do in Ryan's
- 17:24head. So yeah, fun car, but like, it
- 17:30was just too like you. You just feathered the.
- 17:34Well, you couldn't fully unspool it and really enjoy it, which is
- 17:37that's, I think that's a lot of us run into that of like, OK, if
- 17:42you can't enjoy it, if it's meant to be driven off the
- 17:44track, if you can't fully enjoy it because most of your drives
- 17:47are going to be not track drives.
- 17:49So it. Must be the way it it delivers
- 17:51the power, right? You know the way it.
- 17:52Delivers the power, the balance of the car.
- 17:54I just think the power of that VA is better.
- 17:58I know they're both V8, but the the GT, yeah, I did like a
- 18:03couple of the technology features.
- 18:05So it had a really non intrusive lane discipline thing.
- 18:09You know how that's cool? A lot of them are like and you
- 18:11just get rumbled, right? This was more like suggestive
- 18:14and I like that. It sounds like it.
- 18:23Was it was sort of a little. Ankle or.
- 18:27What has Ryan been drinking tonight?
- 18:29That's what I want to know. You know what is in the.
- 18:31The one. That I'm not drinking.
- 18:34Yeah. Thank you.
- 18:35Costco. Yeah, the coffee.
- 18:36It's a. Different kind of shot, but it's
- 18:37having the same effect. My digestive system is, you
- 18:42know, clean as a whistle. So yeah, that was the dark
- 18:46horse. I I think that the, the GT is
- 18:49the better car, is a more usable car.
- 18:52Like on the freeway again, you just couldn't put the power
- 18:55down, you know? You just get the tires spinning
- 18:57and and. It's more like, you know, gentle
- 19:00throttle is enough, more than enough to propel you to where
- 19:04you need to go. So there's no, there's no point
- 19:06in planting it because you just can't like, so that was the
- 19:10first one. And we drove up about 400 miles
- 19:14for this film shoot. So I decided that on the way
- 19:18back I would take the automatic. On the way up I would take the
- 19:22Integra Type S. Oh.
- 19:25I'm dying to hear what you thought about that.
- 19:28Yeah. Have either of you driven 1?
- 19:30Not yet I've. Driven the Is it the TSX type S?
- 19:34Is that a T? LXTL.
- 19:36X rather. That's right, Right.
- 19:37This isn't 2001. Yeah.
- 19:39And that was a manual. No, it was an automatic, the one
- 19:43I drove so but I liked it very much.
- 19:46Greek car. This is the cousin of the Civic
- 19:50type R, right? So they are very similar in
- 19:55everything they do. A lot of people say that the
- 19:59Integra is more refined. I would agree with that, apart
- 20:03from the fact that the seats weren't as good.
- 20:08So I think Honda now are like really famous for having great
- 20:10seats. You know, the gearbox gear
- 20:13change is very similar, most identical position, etcetera.
- 20:18I if you were to say to me like you've got the choice between
- 20:22the two cars which Kezia go for, I think the Integra is a more
- 20:26fun car. Interesting and I know.
- 20:28That's probably going to alienate a load of Mustang fans,
- 20:32but I don't. Think a lot of people realize
- 20:34that these cars exist, but the the TLX and the Integra and they
- 20:38are just wonderful cars like in the very best sort of like old
- 20:42school way. I mean the techs all there and
- 20:44all that, but they there's something there's an
- 20:46authenticity to them, right, like they they drive exactly
- 20:49like you think they're going to drive and and they sort of drive
- 20:51like cars used to drive right. It's just there's a directness
- 20:55quality in every control and, and touch point That's just, I
- 20:59don't think Honda gets all the credit they deserve And, and
- 21:01Acura I think just sort of lives in this weird sort of like zone
- 21:04where they're just not on people's radar anymore, you
- 21:08know? Certainly not as much, I think,
- 21:10as they used to be, yeah. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I remember
- 21:13when you guys do too when Acura was new, right?
- 21:16And yeah, game changer it was, you know, give accurate chance.
- 21:20They're really good cars. It is a great car.
- 21:23It really is. Yeah.
- 21:25It's an unsung hero, I think because most people don't know
- 21:28about it. As you say, it's it's like a
- 21:30little go Kart. It's so much fun.
- 21:32Like you know, I would recommend it in.
- 21:35Front wheel drive, which, you know, damn impressive for front
- 21:39wheel drive cars. What is that 300 horsepower?
- 21:42About 3:40 I think 3. 40 I mean, you know, to be able to to push
- 21:46that through your front wheels with such control and sort of
- 21:49poise and yeah. And it does it well, like it you
- 21:52didn't get so a lot of cars that the front wheel drive, you get
- 21:55the torque steer when you put your foot down and everything
- 21:58starts. You know, I took it down a drag
- 22:01strip and it was perfect. Gear changes were perfect.
- 22:04Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:06I'm fastened with the science of torque steer, and I don't think
- 22:08I've ever quite wrapped my head around it.
- 22:10Back in the day, I had a 2000 Volvo S40.
- 22:15I think it had 160 horsepower, but it was to the front wheels.
- 22:18And if you floored it, that thing would just, you know,
- 22:21turn, you know, I mean, you really had to fight against it.
- 22:24But now we have these cars with more than double the horsepower,
- 22:28and you don't pick up on torque steer at all.
- 22:30So like what have they done in recent years to dial that out?
- 22:33Do you have any any ideas on the science behind that?
- 22:38The. Magicians, that's what I can
- 22:39say. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Sobs.
- 22:41That was always a big thing with sobs too.
- 22:43You're right. That was always with the vegan,
- 22:45right When the vegan came out and it was ostensibly this
- 22:47competitor like the M3 or the S4, you know, and it was a neat
- 22:51car, quirky, but that was always the hit against it, that it had
- 22:53like this incredible torque steer, you know?
- 22:55And so there were. Voxels in the UK the same like
- 22:58just had too much torque steer, you couldn't get the power down,
- 23:01you couldn't appreciate the car and the way you wanted to.
- 23:03But there aren't that many quick front wheel drive cars anymore.
- 23:07Other I think the the Gulf GTI is potentially one.
- 23:12I'm not sure we could name more than five.
- 23:14Yeah, yeah. Everything's all-wheel drive.
- 23:18Yeah, maybe. There's a Hyundai N of some
- 23:21sort. Does front row Dr. the LAN
- 23:24lanter? Yeah, I want to.
- 23:25I want to say that's all-wheel drive though.
- 23:27The N, the N spec, the. Elantra or I think.
- 23:30All aren't there all aren't all the N spec we?
- 23:32Need to get to our research and so do we need to put money on
- 23:37it? Do we want to?
- 23:39I'm going to say that they're all all-wheel drive all N spec
- 23:42cars. See.
- 23:43Elantra N all-wheel drive. I don't think it is so I.
- 23:48Think no, I mean show some I am. Happy to moderate the bet.
- 23:53Does not come with all-wheel drive.
- 23:56OK, All right, Well, you know. We'll just start a running tally
- 24:01of you owe me a beer. I owe you a beer, Yeah.
- 24:04I think I don't Dan a few beers at this point, but now we know,
- 24:07Now we know. But.
- 24:08Yeah, I only I could name more than five cars the front wheel
- 24:11drive have a bit of power and but I think the Civic has the
- 24:15record going around the nerve ring still.
- 24:17Yeah. So I think it's.
- 24:20Record for a front wheel drive car?
- 24:22Yeah. Yeah, that's a great.
- 24:25Car and I imagine that this is just sort of a more grown up
- 24:28version of that, right? Yeah, no, I think it's it's
- 24:32good. I thought we would change
- 24:34subjects and talk a bit, a little bit about what's the
- 24:37right phrase. Is it like flogging a horse?
- 24:40Is it squeezing a lemon this year?
- 24:43Wait for it. This year is 25 years of the
- 24:45Fast and Furious franchise and the well known shoe company Puma
- 24:51have a set of You guys call them tennis shoes.
- 24:55I call them trainers. Trainers.
- 24:56Yeah. Tennis have a set of trainers
- 24:58that are tribute to the cars in the movies.
- 25:01I kid you not, right? Yeah.
- 25:02So I. Mean they are a sight to behold,
- 25:06yeah. Have you seen them, Ryan?
- 25:07No, I've. Not Oh yeah, yeah, I, I.
- 25:10Think you need to pause for a minute and do a search for OK
- 25:13Suki's Honda S2000 Puma shoe. And while you're doing that,
- 25:18like there's the full set, OK, they've done a contribution or a
- 25:22tribute to each car that was in the movies.
- 25:24Oh wow. Dan, let me see yours.
- 25:28So you guys wearing? Them tonight.
- 25:33Like the orange one for the Super?
- 25:35Yeah, I. Kind of I kind of, well, no, I'm
- 25:37just zoomed in. Those are not who's.
- 25:39Who are these for? I mean true fans of the festival
- 25:42a lot. Going on Manch I so.
- 25:44Me and all of my F&F brethren. Also 25 years this I know I was
- 25:51just. I'm like, I remember when the
- 25:54first one came out. Yeah, yeah, I.
- 25:58Wonder if Jorge would rock a pair of these shoes?
- 26:00Our buddy from tormenting tarmac because when we were last in LA
- 26:03he had to make a pilgrimage to. That's right.
- 26:05He. Can answer all the trivia, you
- 26:08know, Yeah. Or hey, if you're listening,
- 26:10that's. Where they ended the after Brian
- 26:14drag race is the Ferrari. They go to Neptunes net net in
- 26:17the movie I. Want to know how old Jorge was
- 26:20when the movie came out? I kind of do want to know, and I
- 26:22don't want to know. Yeah, because he was probably
- 26:24about 12 or something. Right did he see it in real time
- 26:27or or did it come labor? But what a what a force, right?
- 26:30Like what a what a half life right that I.
- 26:32Know well. Yeah.
- 26:34When you think about kind of what they thought or like what
- 26:38the expectation was when they were making it and what the
- 26:41franchise, I mean, nobody expected it to be like they're
- 26:44making another one as we speak. Yeah.
- 26:47Who would have thought that 25 years on, they'd still be making
- 26:49new movies? Yeah, it's crazy.
- 26:53It's old Dan and I. Are Dan and I are still waiting
- 26:56for our stand by me Adidas so. That's right, in the.
- 27:00Meantime, you'll console yourselves with the Fast and
- 27:03Furious Pumas. So if you guys had to wear one
- 27:07of this line up, which ones would you choose because I know
- 27:10which ones I would choose. Well, I'm looking at pink.
- 27:12I'm looking at kind of an electric blue, right?
- 27:15I'm looking at with the. Silver Access.
- 27:17There's a bright. Green.
- 27:20Yeah, there's a bright green. I did see a note that they were
- 27:23sad there weren't There wasn't one that was a direct tribute to
- 27:27Hans car in Tokyo Drift. That was a suggestion for when
- 27:31Puma brings out Fast and Furious 2 point O that they be sure to
- 27:36include that one. I, I don't want to, you know,
- 27:39burst anyone's bubble here, but I also saw an ad pop up on my
- 27:42Instagram the other day for a line of Pumas dedicated to
- 27:47musical group The Smiths. And they have lines of lyrics,
- 27:53you know, lyrics down the side. I, I don't know if these are one
- 27:56offs or if these are also a Puma, you know, officially
- 27:58licensed product, but I'm, I'm, you know, they might just be
- 28:01doing anything anymore, right? You know, I'm thinking that car
- 28:04feels a. Little bit like throwing
- 28:06spaghetti against the wall. Yeah.
- 28:08Over there if you're listening. If you're listening, we can put
- 28:11the Lego on some shoes they would sell in their hundreds in
- 28:15Peru. And South Korea, that's.
- 28:17Right. And then just target those
- 28:19markets, right? We have a captive audience who
- 28:21are ready and waiting for the that car show high tops.
- 28:25We're just waiting for the call from Puma.
- 28:27The stingiest automotive company award may go to, or at least a
- 28:32contender, is Ford. Man Ford.
- 28:37Obviously have got a number of electric cars, but I think
- 28:40Lindsay, you saw that they're actually taking a leaf out of
- 28:43BMW's book and charging the customer more if they want more.
- 28:48Yeah. And it's what's wild is
- 28:51ultimately the overall price of the car is going up, but not for
- 28:55the reason that goods usually go up like inflation and etcetera.
- 29:00So they've decided to make the insert that creates, that makes
- 29:05the franc A franc like makes the front part of it usable.
- 29:09That insert now costs $495 if you want it and it's not
- 29:14standard in any of the packages. And the base price of the cars
- 29:20has been reduced by $50, but the front insert costs 495 S The
- 29:25overall price of the car goes up.
- 29:28If you want something that used to be standard and what I
- 29:31thought was so fascinating, and I'm curious if this really is
- 29:34the case or if it's just what they've decided to, you know,
- 29:38package this decision is. They said the designers had
- 29:43learned that a lot of owners were not using the front, so
- 29:48they decided to make the insert not a standard option.
- 29:53But, you know, it just leaves me with a lot of questions.
- 29:56And I feel like, again, like you said, Dan, it smacks of BMW
- 29:59saying they were going to start a subscription for heated seats
- 30:02or different options. And I think there's something to
- 30:06that in the sense of if it meant that in the cooler, like in the
- 30:14warmer months, you're not having to pay extra for your heated
- 30:17seats, sure. But there's got to be a better
- 30:20way to present it to the public, to us, the drivers, where it
- 30:23doesn't just feel like a money grab.
- 30:27Yeah, the one that gets me is the Mackie Rally, which is a car
- 30:32I'd love to drive. Yeah.
- 30:34I've heard really good things about those if you.
- 30:36Want the spoiler now? And the graphics pack?
- 30:38It's another $1000. Yeah, right.
- 30:41And that used to be what set it apart.
- 30:42That was how you knew it was the rally.
- 30:44Yeah. Well, it's again, it's not like
- 30:46you know, if you don't want it, you save 1000.
- 30:48It's that you didn't have to pay another thousand this this tray.
- 30:52So if you if I were to go to one of these makis without the tray
- 30:55now would I just see wires and cool?
- 30:57Yeah, I think it's just like unfinished, OK, like you can't,
- 31:01you couldn't use it to put cargo in without this insert that
- 31:04makes it. So I, I guess like our pole star
- 31:08has a frunk. I don't think it's nearly as
- 31:11capacious as the one in the Maki, but I've never even
- 31:13thought to use it right because there's plenty of room in the
- 31:16back. But I've driven other EVs where
- 31:19for whatever reason that that's that's the go to storage space.
- 31:23So is it? I assume it's a big area I
- 31:26assume I would guess. Just from looking at the car,
- 31:28like I haven't looked at 1 and I mean, that's a good, that's a
- 31:33good perspective from, you know, you actually have an EV and you
- 31:38don't think to use the frunk. Like maybe that's true and it's
- 31:42just force of habit. We're still getting used to the
- 31:44idea that there isn't an engine in the front of the car and
- 31:47we're having to remind ourselves to go use it.
- 31:50It just feels like self fulfilling.
- 31:52Well that's like, if you're making it unusable then people
- 31:55aren't going to use it. It's just.
- 31:56Guys, it's just this constant nickel and diming to death,
- 31:59right? And it's just, this just smacks
- 32:01of that. And it's just like, when will it
- 32:02stop? You know, just be
- 32:04straightforward. Tell me what the car costs and
- 32:07and let it be done. And what is this like a
- 32:09Rubbermaid container? Like how complicated a piece of
- 32:12plastic can this be, right? I mean, there's got to be a
- 32:14workaround, right? I don't know, right?
- 32:17It's just people are. Going to Yeah, people are going
- 32:19to be making their own trunk inserts for less than $495.
- 32:23That's just. It's, it's just, you know, it's
- 32:26like when you stay at any hotel now, then there's like the $50
- 32:28night resort fee, right? It's just a resort, right?
- 32:32Right. Like the Courtyard Inn in Iowa,
- 32:34man. This is a Motel 6.
- 32:36Yeah, that's me. Right now it's just come on.
- 32:38I know. It just seems cheap.
- 32:42Just seems cheap. Yeah, it.
- 32:43Doesn't, and I don't know off the top of my head how you
- 32:47present that in a way that feels good.
- 32:49If it's something that used to be standard and you're now
- 32:51getting charged for it, like that scenario doesn't ever feel
- 32:54good, regardless of the context. But it just sounds, it sounds
- 32:59stingy. And it's it feels like if
- 33:02they're trying to save, let's just say they're trying to save
- 33:05money, that feels like something like if you're selling an EV
- 33:10without an insert and you can't use the front of it, it feels
- 33:13like the car is not complete too.
- 33:16I think that's the bigger thing for me is like you said, Ryan.
- 33:18So what do you have Bear, you know, wiring and insulation.
- 33:24It is this is it is this this push to, you know, I've talked
- 33:27about this before in the show where, you know, the cheaper
- 33:30models of cars will have wheels that are are just, you know, so
- 33:34ugly. There's no way you'd ever want
- 33:36to drive that thing around with those wheels.
- 33:37So you you feel obligated to upgrade, right?
- 33:40And I really feel like the wheels are designed to be ugly.
- 33:42And and I've got a dump on my favorite car brand here for a
- 33:45minute. But Porsche, have you seen some
- 33:47of the wheels on the newest 9 elevens?
- 33:49They're hideous. They don't look like they fit on
- 33:51the car. They look almost like arrow
- 33:54wheels or something. So when you look into the
- 33:56spokes, instead of seeing the barrel of the, of the wheel,
- 34:00there's almost like a, a rim that comes up an inch or two.
- 34:03And it's just, they look awful, You know, and I, I, I, I, I hate
- 34:07to say it, but I think Porsche is finally kind of doing what,
- 34:10you know, other companies, well, you know, they've been doing it
- 34:13on the, on the, sorry, the, the, the electric Porsche.
- 34:16I can't think of the name of it. The, the, the, the Ticon, look
- 34:21at like the, especially when that the car first came out,
- 34:23look at the wheel designs on the lower end.
- 34:26They were absolutely awful. And the fact that that's carried
- 34:29out over now to the 9/11 is kind of pathetic.
- 34:31But again, it's this mentality where no one's going to want to,
- 34:34you know, no one's going to want to be seen without their trunk
- 34:36liner, right? Because you know, their
- 34:38neighbors are going to say, who is this cheap guy, right?
- 34:40I mean, so you're going to do it whether you use it or not.
- 34:43Then it's just, yeah, it's, it's just so cheap.
- 34:45You know, you guys are both old enough to remember when you get
- 34:47a lower level car and there'd be like blank caps and things,
- 34:51right? This is come on.
- 34:52Well, they were just talking. About this on Spike this morning
- 34:55in one of the, I think it was a Subaru where there's a space
- 34:59where on some of them there is a feature and on some of them it's
- 35:03like a blank cover. And they were debating, they'd
- 35:05heard a rumour that the guts of the feature, if you were able to
- 35:09pry this cover off and get a button that would make the
- 35:13connection, the guts are still there.
- 35:15So they were debating the merits of that.
- 35:17But it is funny where you are in, you know, like at one point
- 35:20there was an expedition and an explorer in my family and one of
- 35:24them had the compass up above and the other one just just like
- 35:29plastic. And you're like, well, we know
- 35:30what could be there, but it's not well.
- 35:34And you know, the other interesting thing about I know
- 35:36they were doing crazy deals on mock ease recently, seemingly
- 35:42because they weren't really moving.
- 35:44And so this feels like counterproductive.
- 35:46If you want people to try the cars out, you're going to make
- 35:49it less attractive. Yeah, and there was benefits
- 35:53because of the tariffs as well. There was discounts you just
- 35:57guys reminded me of. So I had my car going for a
- 36:00service last week and the only reason I raised this is because
- 36:03of like value for money, etcetera.
- 36:05This is the Porsche. This is the Audi.
- 36:08The. Audi.
- 36:08The Audi. So this was in theory it was the
- 36:1050,000 mile service. In reality the cars only done
- 36:1332,000. But is it a time period or
- 36:17mileage? Yeah. 32,000 Dan Miles Well.
- 36:20I I know because I think at least 1000 were done by you,
- 36:23Ryan. It was a group effort.
- 36:26When When did you want me to pick it up so I can put my 1000
- 36:29on it? Whenever you like, whenever.
- 36:31You use it up and hand them the keys.
- 36:33Don't. Put it up against bad temper too
- 36:34because I don't think it will compete.
- 36:37There's only. One way to find out I took.
- 36:39It in for a service and I don't know if it's the norm now but
- 36:42like I was presented with three service options was the first
- 36:46thing. Which one would you like Sir?
- 36:49The cheapest 1. Again, the jokes.
- 36:51Right themselves. Wow, yeah I kid.
- 36:55Well, have a guess how much a service is on an Audi SQ5 and
- 37:00this? Was just a standard 50,000 mile
- 37:02yeah it's but when they. Start to fall apart, you know
- 37:04that's oil. Like tire rotation but nothing.
- 37:08No gearbox oil or anything like that.
- 37:10Shouldn't be more than, I mean shouldn't be more than $300.00,
- 37:13but I'm going to say $900.00 for the cheapest option.
- 37:16Double it you're. Kidding me?
- 37:17What are they doing? Making a profit out of me for a
- 37:21star. So my point is, they're telling.
- 37:24It how pretty it is I. Got a loner, which is great.
- 37:28Yeah. That evening the car was ready
- 37:30and I had work commitments, so I said could I pick it up the next
- 37:33day? And they were like, yeah, we'll
- 37:36get it washed for you as well. I was like, what?
- 37:39You weren't going to wash it. Yeah, now, now you're, you're
- 37:43talking to the guy who who explicitly instructs them to not
- 37:47wash the car. So you know, and yet they do,
- 37:50right? The poles.
- 37:51Start to be washed, wouldn't you?
- 37:54Have you been to a Pole Star dealership?
- 37:56Didn't we talk about this? The Pole Star Pole Star
- 37:59dealership is the Volvo dealership, but you don't get to
- 38:01go into the Volvo entrance. They sort of shuttle you around
- 38:04and back where there isn't a sign, and then you stand there
- 38:08for 30 minutes until you know the one guy that's doing
- 38:11everything from welcoming customers to doing the actual
- 38:14work in the cars comes over in a sweat and greets you.
- 38:17It's Yeah, I the last thing I want is that guy washing the
- 38:20car. It's got they're.
- 38:21Like Nope, you over here. But no, you know, it's.
- 38:26So that was the the cheapest option, Dan.
- 38:28Yeah. What?
- 38:29What again? What do you get for your?
- 38:31You know, do they? Do a some musical number for you
- 38:34I. Didn't I?
- 38:35Didn't even look. That's just sad.
- 38:37Give me the cheapest option so. So I so I'll give you another
- 38:40story Porsche Colorado spring. So I've got this GT 4 it's a
- 38:432020 and I was living in a little bit of fear because I
- 38:46knew that its first major service was coming up and my
- 38:50usual service guy is on leave. And so it was given to someone
- 38:53else, a guy I've worked with before, great guy, but not my
- 38:55usual person. And I just expected him to say,
- 38:57well, you know, it's finally time to get that, you know,
- 39:00that, that, that major service. But he said, well, how many
- 39:03miles do you have? And I told him he's like, oh,
- 39:04no, no, you're, you're, you're good.
- 39:05You're, you're fine. Just, you need an oil change and
- 39:07probably a, you know, a brake fluid service.
- 39:11And I, you know, like, thank you.
- 39:13That's nice. Thank.
- 39:13You yeah, because I would have, you know, just assumed I needed
- 39:16this major service. I know we're just pushing off to
- 39:18next year, but but but the oil change on that Dan was I think
- 39:25390 and the GT 4 is a car like as you both know, these are
- 39:30cars. We have a lot of underbody
- 39:32panels that have to come off right.
- 39:33I mean, this is No 5 minute oil change.
- 39:35This is a process. And so I thought 390 was not
- 39:38terrible. And the fact that it's less than
- 39:40half what they quoted you on an SQ5 seems with a smaller engine,
- 39:45right. I mean, it's not you know, these
- 39:47these Porsches in the NA engines have a ton of oil and all that.
- 39:50I mean, you know, this is, what, A-28 turbo or something?
- 39:5432 turbo on the three. Yeah.
- 39:57Where's the complication here? Like what?
- 39:59What do you do? I just didn't didn't get it.
- 40:01I would have loved if they had. So I am three weeks left on my
- 40:05warranty and the other sign of a good dealer is like, hey, you
- 40:10know, this is probably touch and go on the warranty, but we'll do
- 40:12it for you anyway, right? Yeah, none of that.
- 40:14I'm seeing none of that. So.
- 40:17Well, Speaking of truck trunk liner, said Porsche Carter
- 40:20Springs. I got to give them another plug
- 40:21because right before this car went out of of warranty, I took
- 40:24it and I said, you know, take a look and do whatever you need to
- 40:27do. And you know, they looked at it
- 40:29very thoroughly. Can't really find anything.
- 40:31But your trunk liner up front is is sort of pulling away.
- 40:34Let's let's replace that. And I'm sure that was no cheap
- 40:37piece. And so they replaced the whole
- 40:40front liner for me no issue. So you know it's there is a
- 40:44difference, isn't there? And.
- 40:47Dan, has that been your experience like when you service
- 40:50because is that the first experience you've had servicing
- 40:53it in LA? Yeah, was.
- 40:57It like that when you were in Seattle like dealer experience
- 41:00wise was the. Oil change.
- 41:01There it. Was nowhere near as expensive,
- 41:04so I think the experience is much better up in Seattle.
- 41:08I had a pretty good experience with the Porsche because the
- 41:10Porsche went in service, you know, No, no major concerns.
- 41:15Alone car, Yeah. We've talked about this before,
- 41:19at least, you know, the Porsche dealership I like to frequent,
- 41:23these people are sent away to be trained in customer service.
- 41:27They go to like a Four Seasons for a week and they're trained
- 41:30by The Four Seasons customer service staff on how to treat
- 41:34your customer. And I don't understand why more
- 41:37brands, especially premium brands, and I think Audi's up
- 41:39there too, you know, don't pay attention to that.
- 41:42You know, it's just at the end of the day, you know, people's
- 41:45loyalties are fickle and you can go anywhere.
- 41:47And something like a bad experience, like feeling good,
- 41:50you know, feeling like you got ripped off or something's enough
- 41:52to push me to another brand. I mean, I don't know.
- 41:55Yeah. I just don't understand.
- 41:56So I. Think luxury extends beyond the
- 41:58car, right? That's there you go.
- 42:00There you go cuz the. Go on, Lindsay.
- 42:03No. I was going to say I I agree and
- 42:05I think Porsche stands out in they really do focus on
- 42:10including you in the lifestyle. And you know, I mean, think of
- 42:14other like I think they're probably the first brand who do
- 42:20you know, they do events like social events at the dealership
- 42:22and they want you to come back and they want to have a long
- 42:25standing relationship with you because they know it's worth the
- 42:28investment. It's worth investing in their
- 42:30people and having their people go to The Four Seasons and all
- 42:33of of that because if you have a positive experience, you're
- 42:36going to keep coming back. And if you have a negative
- 42:37experience, you're going to talk about it on your podcast there.
- 42:40We go, there we go. Yeah, I Toyota wanted to charge
- 42:44me $70 a day for a loan car. That's when I had the Corolla.
- 42:50It's like. Bros.
- 42:51Yeah, Yeah. Well, it wasn't just a Corolla,
- 42:54right. I mean, you had it was an AR,
- 42:56right. I mean, so you're at a price
- 42:58point where that should just shouldn't even be A to charge
- 43:01you for a rental car. It's just, no, it's ridiculous.
- 43:04I think we need to switch gears and talk about some good stuff
- 43:07because we've so far we've beaten them for.
- 43:11Everything. We're going down at the day,
- 43:14aren't we? Let's talk about one of my
- 43:17favorite car brands, Ferrari, and that thing we do where we
- 43:21get in the DeLorean and we get back to peak.
- 43:24Whatever. This time around we'll go
- 43:26Ferrari. So you're going to go and pick
- 43:28up a peak Ferrari. What was peak Ferrari and why?
- 43:32And Ryan sounds like he's done most of the homework on this
- 43:35one. So maybe you can go first while
- 43:37Lindsay and I think. I love Ferraris next as much as
- 43:42the next guy or gal. I never have owned one.
- 43:45Let me list the reasons. But you know, I, I think, you
- 43:49know, growing up it was a, it was obviously a poster car and
- 43:51this and that. And, and I think it'd be really
- 43:53easy to say, I'm going to go back to, you know, I don't know,
- 43:55the 50s and buy a GTO or something, but but for me, the
- 43:59year that really matters is 1987, right?
- 44:02And I think you both know that was the year the F40 was
- 44:05released. But what's interesting is they
- 44:08had four other cars in the lineup of that year.
- 44:12So they had the 328. You get the GTS or the GTB,
- 44:16right? You could get the 400.
- 44:19I still remember that one 400, the funky wedge, you know, which
- 44:24is finally getting its due. The prices on those have shot
- 44:27way up if you've if you've I've always liked those.
- 44:30I always had the thing for them. I thought they were cool, but
- 44:32can't afford one of those now either.
- 44:34The Mondeal and I think it was a 32 by 1987.
- 44:38So I think it was someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I
- 44:41think that was you're finally like getting into the mondeals
- 44:43that you really want, right? You know, you could get that as
- 44:46a as a as a Cooper convertible, I think in in 87 still.
- 44:49And then, of course, they were still doing the Testarossa.
- 44:52So, you know, that was a pretty robust lineup.
- 44:56Of course, the F40 just, you know, blew them all, blew them
- 44:59all out of the water. But you know, think about it, no
- 45:01turbos. Everything was manual except for
- 45:04maybe that 400. I checked the wrong box, right.
- 45:07I mean, it was a pretty damn good lineup, but I think to 2013
- 45:13puts up a pretty good fight because 2013 I think was the
- 45:17last year of of of NA across the board.
- 45:20In 2014 was the first year of the turbo.
- 45:22The 458 speciality was 2013. Also a pretty great lineup.
- 45:27But just being a a child of the the 80s, you know, it's it's
- 45:311987 for me and Ferrari. It's just checks out the next
- 45:35box. Challenge you on that?
- 45:37Yeah. So I think you said that none of
- 45:40them were turbos. Well, sorry, the F40, OK.
- 45:45Sounds like there's another beer on the line, yes?
- 45:47There we go. Yes, yeah, yeah, answered.
- 45:49Carefully. Yes.
- 45:51So the F40 was tabo charge was right?
- 45:53Yeah, I honestly that may even not was it 88 even before that
- 45:57was brought to the States? I I don't know.
- 45:58It's probably late 87 if I recall.
- 46:00But that was a hell of a lie. We'll give you.
- 46:02Late 80s as an answer. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:06That's a good. Answer Lindsay, do you want to
- 46:07go next? Can you beat that?
- 46:09Sure. So I have I have 3 answers which
- 46:12will surprise no one. It's a storied mark.
- 46:16It is a storied. Mark and you know, I had to like
- 46:20when I when I started thinking about the question, I went, OK,
- 46:24what pops to mind? So my very first TV show was
- 46:28Magnum Pi. So like the first show that I
- 46:32remember watching and I remember that from when I was a little
- 46:34bitty kid, as my dad would say. So that made quite an impression
- 46:38on me. And I was like, Magnum had the
- 46:40three O 8. So 1980 is when Magnum came out.
- 46:44So I would say that was a like a significant moment for Ferrari.
- 46:50I would also say the Testarossa was a significant moment for
- 46:55them. It's such an iconic car.
- 46:57That car was produced between 84 and 91.
- 47:00So there's that. And then I think the Enzo is a
- 47:04pretty significant car. That was 2002 to 2004.
- 47:09And I actually saw one of those driving on PCH in about 2004
- 47:15actually. So yeah, I was driving behind it
- 47:19and all of a sudden, like realized what I was seeing and
- 47:22I'm like, what is this? So for those keeping track, PCH
- 47:27is the place to be. But obviously Ferrari's been
- 47:29around for a long, long, long time and they've had several
- 47:32significant moments. But those are the those are the
- 47:35moments that come to mind for me as far as like defining moments
- 47:39for the brand. Well, you did.
- 47:41Interesting. Well, I was at a car show on
- 47:45Sunday and a gentleman brought along a Daytona Spider.
- 47:52And I just think the Daytona is, you know, I think Ferrari went
- 47:57for a period of making race cars for the road, which were
- 48:02beautiful, but the convertible with the V12 and just, it's just
- 48:10a thing of beauty. So V12 plus a beautiful car, I
- 48:14think. And those cars I think
- 48:16originally came out in the 60s, but it wasn't until the 70s
- 48:18where they were kind of, really sort of perfection.
- 48:23So I think it's the Daytona Spider in the early 70s.
- 48:27So, and again, it's interesting, we've gone for different eras,
- 48:31no? No, I know.
- 48:33And you should buy 1 Dan. They're a little soft right now
- 48:35from what I hear. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:37Is that? Your addition to the BA pocket
- 48:39list That's right, it's for this week well, we.
- 48:42Should each get one right and you know.
- 48:44Well that's an interesting. Yeah, go ahead.
- 48:46Sorry. I.
- 48:47Identify fit in one, but yeah, I bet.
- 48:49You do you know, that's an interesting car because you
- 48:51know, back in the day so many some of the coups were turned
- 48:54into to cabs, right. So I think the move might be to
- 48:58find a nice coop but an. Unmolested example, as they say.
- 49:03That's right. I think 1 was used in the
- 49:06cannibal run, not the film, the actual cannibal run.
- 49:09Yeah, that's right. That's that's that this is true.
- 49:11Yeah, that all about it. And car and driver back in the
- 49:14day. So yeah.
- 49:15With Brock Yates and Dan Journey.
- 49:17That's exactly right. So.
- 49:19Well, Can you imagine? Can you imagine like in period
- 49:23doing that trip just falls out for better, for lack of a
- 49:28better, you know, way of saying it in that car from coast to
- 49:31coast. Those two right.
- 49:33Talk about recording a podcast in a car, right?
- 49:36Yeah, in the. 70s there was obviously a lot less traffic.
- 49:40Imagine that it would just this traffic.
- 49:41Wouldn't it? Yeah.
- 49:43Cops, you know, rudimentary speed control, right.
- 49:46I think that was the era of like, you know, once you hit the
- 49:47state line, you were you were free.
- 49:50That's what the movies taught me.
- 49:51So, yeah, you know, it's, that's a good answer.
- 49:54That's a good answer, yeah. Does Ferrari still do it for
- 49:58you? Like with their current lineup,
- 50:00obviously they're nice cars and they're fast and all that, but
- 50:02is there anything in their current lineup that really
- 50:05touches you? Like I mean that really makes
- 50:08you want. He's bad, he gave.
- 50:09Jokes. Yeah, Lindsay.
- 50:13So I don't know the models as well as I wish I did, but I
- 50:19think some of the new ones are really beautiful.
- 50:21I think it's it's sort of an era of extremes for them and
- 50:26obviously it's subjective, but some of them I think are
- 50:30gorgeous and some of them are not my cup of tea.
- 50:35But I would say, you know, they're still like, I think
- 50:38they're still very special cars. I think the brand is so special
- 50:41and I wouldn't turn 1 down. The Dolce Cilindre, which is the
- 50:47is like a, you know, a new Daytona.
- 50:52I'd love to drive one of those. Yeah, I.
- 50:53Think those, they're all just so big, you know, And I remember
- 50:57when the F came out, people said that about that car.
- 51:00Well, that doesn't seem so big now.
- 51:01And that's a car that never really did it for me when it was
- 51:05new, but I think are really cool.
- 51:07I've seen a couple of them in winter here in Colorado on
- 51:10winter tires. You know, they're all-wheel
- 51:11drive. They're just it's like how
- 51:12baller is that, you know? Yeah, take my my V12 Ferrari,
- 51:16you know and and you know don't. Mind me, yeah.
- 51:20Yeah, good stuff. So no I.
- 51:22Love that. I'm with you.
- 51:24I think I think they're cool. They're cool, A lot of.
- 51:27Car for the money currently so. Lots of top tips today on the
- 51:31bullshit list. We've got the Daytona, we've got
- 51:34the GT4 Luso and the FF. Yeah, it's a Ferrari.
- 51:40Heavy segment. What have we got coming up in
- 51:44the next few weeks? Much.
- 51:47I think Avance has an event this weekend and just hoping for some
- 51:51good weather, maybe get out for a drive.
- 51:55Well, not the Fat Ice race that's going on this weekend.
- 51:59We will not be there next year. Just didn't get our, yeah,
- 52:02didn't get it together to make that happen.
- 52:04Speaking of Avance, I want to give Avance a quick shout out
- 52:06because my GT4 needs new tires. And if you are an Avance member
- 52:12and I am, you can get a 10% discount off the top of any, I
- 52:18think pretty much any tire at Discount Tire.
- 52:21And then you get an additional 10% rebate if they're Michelins.
- 52:24And so you're spending $2500 on 4 tires.
- 52:28That's a significant amount of money.
- 52:30You've got to order the tires in person at a Discount Tire.
- 52:33But beyond that, you can have them shipped to your installer
- 52:36or whatever. So, you know, well worth the
- 52:39price of admission. I think it's about 100 bucks,
- 52:41maybe 150 a year for a. It's between 100 and 150 pays.
- 52:46For itself, one set of tires and some.
- 52:49So anyway, yeah, another top tip, right?
- 52:54So. So you'll be getting ties and
- 52:56then going for another drive to find.
- 52:57It. I hope so.
- 52:59What was the Toyota that we got stuck behind?
- 53:02A forerunner. You know, another forerunner?
- 53:04Yeah, or. Investigating more counties with
- 53:07stealth. The problem is even in the 10
- 53:11years, 12 years, whenever that I've lived in Denver, the
- 53:13traffic has gotten so much worse.
- 53:15These sort of like near Canyon roads, which used to be our go
- 53:18to's are just that much more heavily trafficked.
- 53:20And then in turn you get more enforcement.
- 53:22And so you've got to, you've got to cast the net further.
- 53:24Well, even though we haven't had much of A winter anywhere beyond
- 53:28sort of this, this near net means there's snow and ice and
- 53:31everything else. I tried to go up the peak to
- 53:32peak today and if you are local, you know the peak to peak.
- 53:36I got to the second corner and had to slam in the bricks
- 53:40because it was all ice. And it was 73 in Denver today.
- 53:44So that's what you're dealing with.
- 53:45Wow. In Colorado.
- 53:46But yeah, Dan, you, I'm. Just trying to think I actually
- 53:51next weekend I'm going for a bit of a road trip taking the
- 53:54Porsche out. My plans had changed.
- 53:57I was going to Daytona for the bikes.
- 53:59That's right. But I've, I've pulled the plug
- 54:01on that and I've got relatives from the UK going to Palm
- 54:05Springs. So I'm going to take a couple of
- 54:07days to get there and probably go out to Ojai and, you know, do
- 54:10some crazy stuff and then come into Palm Springs there.
- 54:13Are a couple of really great tiki bars in Palm Springs so do
- 54:17yourself a favor and investigate those while you're there so.
- 54:21Well, that's the perfect Palm Springs cartoon.
- 54:23You can put the top down. That'll be That'll be fantastic.
- 54:27Might might come home with a friend.
- 54:31It's Palm Springs, right? What does that mean?
- 54:34I don't. Know.
- 54:37I think on that note, we need to make sure that we don't break
- 54:39Ryan into jail tonight. I think that's a show, isn't it,
- 54:43I? Yeah, I approve this message
- 54:46here we. Go Who's going to take us out?
- 54:50There could be only one. It's very.
- 54:52Kind Well, thank you so much for joining us this week for a crew
- 54:57show. I think we all had a really good
- 54:59time. We hope that you enjoy listening
- 55:01and remember to tell your enthusiast friends like and
