- 1:55Speaker 2: Friday for you. lots of questions being answered that you've
- 1:59Speaker 2: been asking, and you can only hear them on the Patreon. Okay,
- 2:03Speaker 2: so let's get into the writer's strike has ended. This
- 2:08Speaker 2: is fabulous news for many of my writer's friends, but
- 2:11Speaker 2: also for you guys who are missing quality shows. However,
- 2:15Speaker 2: the SAG after strike agreement, that is still negotiating. But
- 2:22Speaker 2: You don't have anything to film unless you have the
- 2:25Speaker 2: writers write the script. So the fact that they're going
- 2:28Speaker 2: back will be great. This means that Drew Barrymore will
- 2:31Speaker 2: be able to go back to her talk show and
- 2:33Speaker 2: we get to enjoy Ross Matthews on that. And so
- 2:36Speaker 2: thank God she put a pause in that and did
- 2:38Speaker 2: the right thing because it was only a couple more
- 2:40Speaker 2: weeks and now we're here. So you're going to see
- 2:42Speaker 2: a lot of game shows, a lot more talk shows. Um,
- 2:45Speaker 2: and basically one of the things in it that was
- 2:47Speaker 2: sort of interesting that they agreed on is the use
- 2:50Speaker 2: of AI. And it really is just up to the writer.
- 2:53Speaker 2: The writer can use AI if he chooses or she chooses,
- 2:57Speaker 2: but also they can't say the producers can't say to
- 3:01Speaker 2: use it or not to use it. That's how I
- 3:03Speaker 2: interpret it. Um, but there's lots more details that, you know, I,
- 3:08Speaker 2: I'm not, I didn't have time to totally get into it,
- 3:10Speaker 2: but I'm just really happy that's going to happen. And
- 3:12Speaker 2: hopefully soon we'll settle with SAG and they can start having,
- 3:16Speaker 2: I do feel like there has been a drop of like,
- 3:19Speaker 2: where are my juicy shows? Where is my big little
- 3:23Speaker 2: lies type of show that I really want to watch?
- 3:25Speaker 2: So hopefully everything will get back on track and we'll
- 3:29Speaker 2: get that really quality entertainment that we have been dying for.
- 3:32Speaker 2: So as Drew would say, I'm so excited. I am back.
- 3:37Speaker 2: We did the right thing. I have fellow writers here
- 3:42Speaker 2: to support me and do wonderful things together. She can
- 3:46Speaker 2: crawl up in someone's lap while wearing a fabulous tan
- 3:51Speaker 2: culotte pant and a smart boot. So it's all happening. Okay,
- 3:57Speaker 2: let's get a little more into Travis Kelsey. I'm now
- 4:01Speaker 2: pronouncing it right. And his brother Jason. And what is
- 4:05Speaker 2: going on with him dating Taylor? Well, it all comes
- 4:09Speaker 2: down to, I wasn't aware that he had a podcast.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Of course he does. Who doesn't? Even my dog has
- 4:15Speaker 2: a podcast. Sure, it's available. HeatherMcDoll.net. And so he's had it, though.
- 4:22Speaker 2: He's had it for a year. Like, if it launched yesterday,
- 4:25Speaker 2: I'd be real suspect. But I guess they've had it
- 4:27Speaker 2: for almost a year now. and he and his brother,
- 4:30Speaker 2: you know, they were the brothers that went against each
- 4:32Speaker 2: other in the Super Bowl, which is the cutest boy
- 4:35Speaker 2: mom story that ever lived. And Taylor went and watched
- 4:39Speaker 2: the game with the mom. And so much has happened since.
- 4:42Speaker 2: She was eating some chicken, dipped chicken in a ketchup
- 4:46Speaker 2: and what people wrote seemingly seemed like ranch dressing. So
- 4:51Speaker 2: now Heinz has made a combo of a ranch ketchup dressing.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Everybody's getting on this. His jersey is like the top
- 5:00Speaker 2: five most popular jersey to purchase. And his podcast went
- 5:05Speaker 2: to number one, though I think it was doing okay,
- 5:07Speaker 2: pretty good, because they talk about football and it's football
- 5:08Speaker 2: season and they're brothers and whatever. But he said, hey,
- 5:12Speaker 2: I'm not going to talk about my relationship, whatever, but
- 5:15Speaker 2: it's going great, something like that. Now, I said before
- 5:19Speaker 2: he had this show called chasing Travis or Tracy chasing Kelsey.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I think it was his last name. And, and it was,
- 5:29Speaker 2: you know, him finding love, like, like the bachelor or whatever.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And he had this girlfriend and that he, that he
- 5:35Speaker 2: got from that and they dated for five months. And
- 5:37Speaker 2: now she's going to the outlets and being public about
- 5:39Speaker 2: it saying, Hey, girl to girl, Taylor, he cheated. And
- 5:43Speaker 2: once a cheater, always a cheater. So everyone's like, you know,
- 5:47Speaker 2: all of her, many of her songs came from broken relationships.
- 5:50Speaker 2: So will he be written about? Is this even a
- 5:52Speaker 2: real relationship? Or did she just want to go to
- 5:54Speaker 2: the game and have some fun? Also, there was some
- 5:57Speaker 2: really funny video of someone pushing out like a big, tall,
- 6:00Speaker 2: like popcorn machine at the game. And people definitely thought
- 6:04Speaker 2: she was in there because she's been known to do that,
- 6:06Speaker 2: like hide in like suitcases and things to get out
- 6:10Speaker 2: of areas because, of course, she is so popular. So
- 6:13Speaker 2: how will the Swifties react if, in fact, they ever
- 6:15Speaker 2: break up? Will his life be over or what? But
- 6:22Speaker 2: I love her song Karma. And I was thinking, I
- 6:24Speaker 2: really can't... I'm going to come up with a song.
- 6:27Speaker 2: It's going to be pretty bad, so get ready. But
- 6:29Speaker 2: I was driving over here listening to it, and I
- 6:31Speaker 2: was thinking of the words that she would say if
- 6:34Speaker 2: it doesn't work out between the two of them. And
- 6:37Speaker 2: they actually date for like a significant amount of time
- 6:40Speaker 2: in which there could be a heartbreak involved. And so
- 6:42Speaker 2: it'd be like, I went to the football game, sat
- 6:46Speaker 2: with your mom. Then what happened? You talked about it
- 6:51Speaker 2: on your podcast with your brother. I can't believe it
- 6:54Speaker 2: that you did this to me. Swifties are like, Heather,
- 6:58Speaker 2: I hate you, but whatever. So, okay, now here's a
- 7:01Speaker 2: couple of things that could happen with this relationship. Hit
- 7:05Speaker 2: album comes out of it. There's some football references. There's
- 7:09Speaker 2: some like, you know, I thought I threw the ball,
- 7:13Speaker 2: but you tossed it back in my heart.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 7:16Speaker 2: That sounds country.
- 7:18Speaker 4: This is bad.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Anyway, I just want to say what the juicier thing
- 7:22Speaker 2: will happen is if, in fact, she writes an album about,
- 7:28Speaker 2: writes songs about the breakup, and then he jumps on that,
- 7:33Speaker 2: piggybacks on that, and has her exes come for one-on-one
- 7:39Speaker 2: exclusive sex. podcast interviews. And now they finally tell their
- 7:44Speaker 2: story of how annoying it was to date Taylor Swift
- 7:47Speaker 2: or what she did or how they felt left out.
- 7:49Speaker 2: And they're like, hey, I'm not a songwriter, but I
- 7:52Speaker 2: can pop on a podcast and be your guest, Travis.
- 7:57Speaker 2: That could be juicy. Meanwhile, Britney is dancing around with
- 8:03Speaker 2: these knives. And then she said, it's just Halloween knives.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Don't worry. I'm doing the Shakira dance. What's weird about
- 8:11Speaker 2: this era of her is that she is like the
- 8:14Speaker 2: biggest fan of music. Like she posts things like, I
- 8:17Speaker 2: love Shakira, I love Madonna, whatever. But people heard the
- 8:22Speaker 2: knives clang. I don't think that Britney has the ability
- 8:27Speaker 2: to like add like an audio sound effect of clanging
- 8:30Speaker 2: knives and is thinking, oh my God, I'm going to
- 8:32Speaker 2: put this video out and people are going to think
- 8:34Speaker 2: I'm actually dancing around with knives and I could hurt myself.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Then I saw photos of like that she might have
- 8:41Speaker 2: cut herself and had like a wrap on her arm.
- 8:45Speaker 2: But now I'm thinking maybe I dreamt that and maybe
- 8:48Speaker 2: someone made a meme of that to be funny. I
- 8:51Speaker 2: hope she's okay. She also showed video of the book
- 8:54Speaker 2: being printed. So I cannot wait to read that book.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I will be reading that book on day one. Her mother,
- 9:03Speaker 2: who's 68 years old, I can't believe she's that old,
- 9:05Speaker 2: but I guess that makes sense because Brittany is over 40.
- 9:10Speaker 2: there was an article written that she is back being
- 9:12Speaker 2: a substitute teacher. And the way they wrote it was,
- 9:14Speaker 2: oh my God, you know, Brittany's mom, since the conservatorship left,
- 9:20Speaker 2: she has to go back being a substitute teacher. Okay,
- 9:25Speaker 2: I think that's a pretty great job. And I think
- 9:28Speaker 2: for a 68-year-old woman, that wants to stay busy, I
- 9:33Speaker 2: think that's a perfect job. It's not every day. It's
- 9:36Speaker 2: not the full commitment of keeping a classroom going all
- 9:39Speaker 2: year and everything. It's not an easy job, but it's
- 9:42Speaker 2: a job that you can occasionally do. And you know what?
- 9:45Speaker 2: She shouldn't be living.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Off her daughter.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Whether her daughter is a doctor or Britney Spears or whatever,
- 9:51Speaker 2: that never should have been her livelihood of living off
- 9:53Speaker 2: her daughter. So I say, go be a teacher. I
- 9:55Speaker 2: don't think it's so sad.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Okay.
- 9:59Speaker 2: It's kind of a weird story. Katy Perry, ex-wife of
- 10:03Speaker 2: Russell Brand, wife of Orlando Bloom, is in a real
- 10:08Speaker 2: estate trial. Let me explain. So she and Orlando and
- 10:13Speaker 2: their realtor bought a house from this man, Westcott. He
- 10:19Speaker 2: is the father-in-law of former real housewife, well, former because
- 10:24Speaker 2: it was canceled, but Dallas. This is Cameron Westcott. She
- 10:27Speaker 2: was the really tall, pretty blonde that always wore pink,
- 10:30Speaker 2: who was married to Westcott, her husband's last name, who
- 10:34Speaker 2: was much shorter than she. They live in Dallas. They're rich.
- 10:37Speaker 2: But his family is like from Santa Barbara or something.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Or they have a house in Santa Barbara. Her father-in-law...
- 10:44Speaker 2: who is in this real estate fight with Katy Perry,
- 10:48Speaker 2: he created one 800 flowers. So he's very wealthy, but
- 10:51Speaker 2: he's very sick. And he has this disease that makes
- 10:55Speaker 2: him very frail and also affects his brain. And he's
- 10:58Speaker 2: very old. And he says that when he was out
- 11:02Speaker 2: of it on painkillers from a back surgery, Their realtor
- 11:06Speaker 2: came and sold. I don't know if he was not
- 11:08Speaker 2: represented or if this realtor represented both of them. I'm
- 11:11Speaker 2: not really sure because I'm like, did you list your
- 11:12Speaker 2: house or not? Normally, you would be listing your house
- 11:16Speaker 2: and there'd be enough time to take photos and whatever
- 11:19Speaker 2: for you to get out of your coma of having
- 11:22Speaker 2: back surgery or painkillers and say, you know what? Stop.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I don't want the open house on Friday. I don't
- 11:26Speaker 2: want to sell my house. So those are the details.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I'm not sure. But he says he signed this contract
- 11:33Speaker 2: between himself and Katy Perry and did not once he got,
- 11:38Speaker 2: you know, his wits about him said, I don't I
- 11:40Speaker 2: don't want to sell my house. I didn't want to
- 11:41Speaker 2: sell my house. And this was done under duress. Well,
- 11:44Speaker 2: they are saying, no, we want the house. We want
- 11:47Speaker 2: this house. And they are going to trial. And Cameron
- 11:52Speaker 2: and her husband, I think, are going to go to
- 11:54Speaker 2: the trial in his place to try to keep this
- 11:57Speaker 2: beautiful Santa Barbara estate, which they want. And, you know,
- 12:01Speaker 2: what they say about land, they're not making it anymore.
- 12:04Speaker 2: So I assume this is a really fabulous house and
- 12:06Speaker 2: they're not willing to give it up. And The other
- 12:09Speaker 2: Katy Perry real estate story I remember that we talked
- 12:12Speaker 2: about was how she was trying to buy this house
- 12:14Speaker 2: from these elderly nuns up in Los Feliz in the
- 12:17Speaker 2: Hollywood Hills. And they were going back and forth fighting
- 12:20Speaker 2: about that. And I'm not sure how that ended. So
- 12:24Speaker 2: she's kind of getting a reputation of like, you know,
- 12:27Speaker 2: finding really great real estate by elderly people that may
- 12:31Speaker 2: or may not want to sell it. So that's pretty juicy. Meanwhile,
- 12:36Speaker 2: Cher had a weird thing happen. They're saying, Entertainment Tonight
- 12:40Speaker 2: said Cher allegedly hired four men to kidnap her son,
- 12:43Speaker 2: Elijah Blue. His name's Elijah Blue. So this story is
- 12:48Speaker 2: very weird. According to Elijah Blue's wife, they are going
- 12:54Speaker 2: through divorce. And in the divorce filings, she tells a
- 12:58Speaker 2: story of how a couple years ago they were working
- 13:02Speaker 2: on their marriage. And they decided they were going to
- 13:04Speaker 2: go to New York and spend some time in this
- 13:07Speaker 2: hotel room and just really focus on their marriage. And
- 13:10Speaker 2: while they were there, four men came and kidnapped her
- 13:13Speaker 2: husband and took him away from her. And I don't
- 13:16Speaker 2: know if that's because– and they were hired by Cher, allegedly.
- 13:20Speaker 2: And I don't know if she's saying that they did
- 13:23Speaker 2: that because Cher was worried that he had a drug
- 13:26Speaker 2: problem or that Cher was the ultimate, you know– overly
- 13:30Speaker 2: involved mother-in-law and was like, this wife's not good for you.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Get these men, get my son away from this bitch
- 13:37Speaker 2: and get him back to my Malibu mansion so we
- 13:40Speaker 2: can hang out together and eat s'mores. I don't know,
- 13:43Speaker 2: but it's kind of a strange story. Let's talk about
- 13:46Speaker 2: Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. It was on last
- 13:48Speaker 2: night and I just need to fill you in. Never
- 13:51Speaker 2: has there been a cast that has hated each other
- 13:55Speaker 2: more than this season of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Literally nobody likes each other. Nobody has each other's back.
- 14:03Speaker 2: It is so crazy, but it is entertaining. So they're
- 14:08Speaker 2: in Palm Springs at Trixie, Trixie's motel. And she is
- 14:14Speaker 2: a big drag queen and she's wearing her fabulous wigs
- 14:17Speaker 2: and everything. And they're having fun and it's so super cute. Well,
- 14:20Speaker 2: they're not actually having very much fun at all. So
- 14:24Speaker 2: Now they go, well, we're going to do this trust
- 14:26Speaker 2: building thing. I hate trust building activities with Real Housewives.
- 14:30Speaker 2: It's so dumb. It's so boring. And, oh, we're going
- 14:34Speaker 2: to blindfold you. We're going to match you with the
- 14:36Speaker 2: person that you hate the most and see if you
- 14:38Speaker 2: can trust them to lead you through these hula hoops
- 14:41Speaker 2: or whatever. Meanwhile, Mary, the church leader, she's just like, no,
- 14:47Speaker 2: I'm not going. No, I'm going to, I don't. I
- 14:51Speaker 2: don't like activities. I'm just going to sit back here
- 14:53Speaker 2: and be by myself. I'm staying in the Sprinter van,
- 14:57Speaker 2: deal with it. So, you know, Meredith is like, okay, Mary,
- 15:02Speaker 2: it would have been nice if you would have joined us,
- 15:04Speaker 2: but I understand you don't have to. I don't know
- 15:06Speaker 2: what Mary has on Meredith, but of course the rest
- 15:10Speaker 2: of the women are like, why the fuck do we
- 15:12Speaker 2: have to jump through hula hoops? And you literally don't.
- 15:15Speaker 2: We were literally jumping through hoops and you get to
- 15:17Speaker 2: sit in an air conditioned van by yourself and like,
- 15:20Speaker 2: look at your phone. We're all getting paid to be
- 15:22Speaker 2: on this stupid show and ruin our family's lives. Why
- 15:26Speaker 2: do you just get to sit here by yourself? Like,
- 15:28Speaker 2: this is really unfair. So they get back to the
- 15:30Speaker 2: van and Lisa's kind of like, why?
- 15:34Speaker 4: Why?
- 15:34Speaker 2: And everyone's like, why aren't you? And Mary is so rude.
- 15:38Speaker 2: She's like, don't talk to me, Lisa. Don't talk to me.
- 15:42Speaker 2: And then Whitney's like, but I just, it would have
- 15:44Speaker 2: been fun. We missed you. And she's like, don't talk
- 15:47Speaker 2: to me, little girl. First of all, nobody missed you, Mary.
- 15:50Speaker 2: They're just pissed that you got to sit in the
- 15:51Speaker 2: van and they didn't have that choice. So they're just
- 15:54Speaker 2: getting annoyed. They're like, why are you here? She's here
- 15:57Speaker 2: because she wants the paycheck because she's not getting the
- 16:00Speaker 2: paychecks anymore from her weird church that closed down, which
- 16:03Speaker 2: I visited, which was scarier than shit. So then they said, well, tonight,
- 16:08Speaker 2: Whitney goes, I'm taking over the fun and we are
- 16:11Speaker 2: going to dress in drag and we're going to do
- 16:13Speaker 2: our own drag makeup that Trixie's going to give us
- 16:15Speaker 2: and everyone's going to have to do it. Well, Lisa
- 16:18Speaker 2: starts having a panic attack and she's like, no, I
- 16:23Speaker 2: don't like that. I don't love that for me. I
- 16:26Speaker 2: brought my own glam. I spend about $ 60, 000 a year
- 16:31Speaker 2: on glam. I have my girl here on retainer. I
- 16:34Speaker 2: spent $ 2, 500 flying her out here and paying her for
- 16:38Speaker 2: the weekend. And she's going to do my makeup. We'll
- 16:40Speaker 2: do it a little draggy, but that's it. And I
- 16:42Speaker 2: don't want any, they break the fourth wall. They see
- 16:46Speaker 2: the producer. She's freaking out. I don't want to dress
- 16:48Speaker 2: in drag. And then Meredith was like, well, I'm not
- 16:52Speaker 2: going to either. Okay. You traumatize my family. And I
- 16:57Speaker 2: don't want a heavy wig on my head because I
- 16:59Speaker 2: had a throbbing headache. And Whitney's like, I don't believe
- 17:03Speaker 2: that it's about your headache. And I don't believe that
- 17:06Speaker 2: you had some step grandmother, mother-in-law's child who's sick. And
- 17:13Speaker 2: then Meredith looks at Whitney and she's like, how dare you?
- 17:17Speaker 2: How dare you talk about a child you don't know?
- 17:23Speaker 2: And that's how the weekend ends. And then they have
- 17:25Speaker 2: to check up. Then they have to get on a
- 17:26Speaker 2: flight that night after they drank all day, wore heavy wigs,
- 17:31Speaker 2: yelled at each other. Absolutely nobody likes each other. And
- 17:35Speaker 2: then go to like some other bar and drink. Then
- 17:38Speaker 2: they have to get on the sprinter van in which
- 17:40Speaker 2: Mary didn't go to the bar either. She didn't wear
- 17:43Speaker 2: the drag. She didn't jump through hoops. And then she
- 17:46Speaker 2: didn't even go to the bar. She had the Sprinter
- 17:48Speaker 2: van take her to McDonald's. I'm hoping that Bravo got
- 17:53Speaker 2: some money from McDonald's. I know they do a lot
- 17:55Speaker 2: in these shows. So maybe it was a win-win. And
- 17:58Speaker 2: that's why the producers put up with the fact that
- 18:00Speaker 2: she doesn't want to do anything. They're like, okay, if
- 18:02Speaker 2: you're going to stay in the van, you're going to
- 18:03Speaker 2: ask for McDonald's so that we can collect our, you know,
- 18:06Speaker 2: a hundred grand. So she got McDonald's while they fought
- 18:10Speaker 2: with each other at this bar. And now they have
- 18:12Speaker 2: to hop on a plane at midnight after wearing drag
- 18:15Speaker 2: makeup all day and heavy wig and fight with each
- 18:18Speaker 2: other to get home to Utah. Sister wives. Oh my God.
- 18:24Speaker 2: The best part was that I found out that Janelle
- 18:27Speaker 2: and Cody actually screwed a lot. I think they had
- 18:30Speaker 2: a lot of sex and he really doesn't want to
- 18:33Speaker 2: lose Janelle. But Janelle is like, I have nothing, Cody.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I have nothing in my name. I live in a
- 18:39Speaker 2: tiny apartment. You don't want to hang out with my kids.
- 18:42Speaker 2: And he's like, yeah, but you and I, when we
- 18:44Speaker 2: were in the cul-de-sac in Las Vegas, like we, we,
- 18:47Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my God, they were voting all the time.
- 18:52Speaker 2: And then she's like, I don't know. I miss Cody.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I miss him in my bed. And then he goes
- 18:58Speaker 2: on to say, Janelle was only interested in me and
- 19:01Speaker 2: my pecs and my abs because I have a really
- 19:03Speaker 2: good body. And we find out that Christine said, I
- 19:08Speaker 2: left the marriage because he wasn't sexually attracted to me.
- 19:11Speaker 2: He never wanted to have sex with me. So we
- 19:14Speaker 2: never had sex with Mary, really. But he also really
- 19:17Speaker 2: didn't with Christine after she had all her kids. She
- 19:20Speaker 2: said it was pretty sexless for the last 10 years.
- 19:22Speaker 2: And Christine is, you know, all the girls are attractive.
- 19:26Speaker 2: You know, he married them all. But he likes to
- 19:29Speaker 2: have sex with Janelle and he likes to have sex with,
- 19:34Speaker 2: you know, Robin. But she doesn't want to be left
- 19:36Speaker 2: alone with him and his pecs and his curly perm. Oh, okay. Now,
- 19:41Speaker 2: you guys, we are going to.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Don't forget, we're going to watch The Golden Bachelor. Chris
- 19:49Speaker 2: and I are definitely going to be covering that at
- 19:50Speaker 2: my live show. So make sure if you're in that
- 19:53Speaker 2: area there, there are still some tickets left. Go to HeatherMcDowell.net
- 19:55Speaker 2: for this weekend. Watch The Golden Bachelor. And now for
- 19:59Speaker 2: a really fun, juicy, insightful interview with the hilarious Beth Stelling.

- 20:44Speaker 6: I'm Darman, and this is What Happens Next. Each week
- 20:47Speaker 6: on the show, I sit down with extraordinary people who
- 20:50Speaker 6: have faced tremendous setbacks, and yet somehow have found a
- 20:55Speaker 6: way to turn them into their greatest strengths.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Life is one long lesson of chaos.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I'm heading to the Emmys, and I have police complaints
- 21:03Speaker 2: filed against me.
- 21:04Speaker 7: When your free will was about to be taken from you,
- 21:06Speaker 7: what would you do if it was given back?
- 21:09Speaker 8: Where did that need come from, where you thought that
- 21:12Speaker 8: you had to succeed in order to feel loved?
- 21:14Speaker 2: He said, I have a work dad.
- 21:15Speaker 4: I need a home dad.
- 21:16Speaker 8: What happens next?
- 21:17Speaker 2: When I came in, he started crying.
- 21:19Speaker 8: Everybody in life encounters hardships. What defines them is not
- 21:23Speaker 8: those hard moments that they go through. It's about what
- 21:26Speaker 8: happens next.
- 21:27Speaker 4: I decided to risk it all.
- 21:28Speaker 2: I realized how valuable every day was. You're worth the work.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Listen, Dara, I'm not going to pull punches. You can
- 21:34Speaker 4: use your voice even if it's shaped.
- 21:36Speaker 6: The stories are different, but the impact is the same.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Only one question matters. What happens next?
- 21:50Speaker 2: Today I'm featuring a funny lady. Who's ready for a funny?
- 21:54Speaker 2: You guys ready for a funny female? Beth Stelling has
- 21:59Speaker 2: a Netflix special out October 3rd. Welcome to your first
- 22:03Speaker 2: time at Juicy Scoop. I've been a fan for a while.
- 22:06Speaker 4: I'm so happy to be here.
- 22:08Speaker 2: And I was excited to see that you made it
- 22:09Speaker 2: to the big time.
- 22:09Speaker 4: I can't believe I'm in this seat. I usually just
- 22:12Speaker 4: watch people here.
- 22:13Speaker 2: And by big time, I mean as a guest on
- 22:15Speaker 2: Juicy Scoop.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Yeah, of course, of course.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I love you.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Who's ready for a female eyed fucker? It's like, what?
- 22:24Speaker 4: We don't need to know that. So gross. It's like
- 22:27Speaker 4: a highest compliment.
- 22:29Speaker 2: It really is. No, I'm really excited. I love your stuff.
- 22:33Speaker 2: You've done a lot. Tell us a little bit just
- 22:36Speaker 2: to familiarize your stuff. I know you've had a couple specials. Yes.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Is this your first Netflix?
- 22:43Speaker 7: I have a half hour on Netflix from 2017. I
- 22:45Speaker 7: was part of that first round of half hours they
- 22:47Speaker 7: did called The Stand-Ups. So I'm in that episode five,
- 22:50Speaker 7: season one. And then I had a half hour on
- 22:54Speaker 7: Comedy Central before that. That was my first sort of special.
- 22:56Speaker 2: So how long have you been doing stand-up?
- 22:58Speaker 4: When did you start? 16 years.
- 23:00Speaker 1: 2007.
- 23:00Speaker 6: Okay.
- 23:00Speaker 2: And how did that come about?
- 23:03Speaker 4: I was a theater major in college.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Where did you go to college?
- 23:06Speaker 4: Miami University in Ohio.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Oh, fun.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Where did you go to get it?
- 23:11Speaker 2: I went to USC.
- 23:12Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
- 23:12Speaker 2: My audience is so sick of hearing that I mention
- 23:15Speaker 2: that a lot. There's just a lot of stories about
- 23:18Speaker 2: my life that involve it. And I'm still here in L.A.,
- 23:21Speaker 2: so it's just, sorry. Sorry that it's the best. Whatever.
- 23:28Speaker 4: They do teach a stand-up class now. You know that, right?
- 23:30Speaker 2: Oh.
- 23:30Speaker 4: I went and got to say hello. They invited me.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Do you know how much that infuriates me?
- 23:37Speaker 4: That you haven't gone?
- 23:38Speaker 2: Of course they wouldn't ask me.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Okay, well, look, I'll get you in. But you know what?
- 23:40Speaker 2: I have done a little bit. I always thought it
- 23:43Speaker 2: would be so exciting to be asked to do anything
- 23:47Speaker 2: at a school. And it actually isn't. I know.
- 23:51Speaker 7: It's hit or miss, which seems so stupid to say, like,
- 23:54Speaker 7: it's good or it's bad.
- 23:55Speaker 4: But I've had some very good times at colleges. I
- 23:58Speaker 4: went back.
- 23:59Speaker 2: No, but, like, not just performing, but, like, I'm saying, like,
- 24:02Speaker 2: when you're, like, a speaker or a teacher, like, career day.
- 24:05Speaker 7: Okay, I see what you mean. You mean even just
- 24:08Speaker 7: doing what I did, go talk to the stand-up class?
- 24:11Speaker 2: Well, that I think I'd be kind of into. But, like,
- 24:14Speaker 2: I don't know. It's weird when I've done, like, high
- 24:17Speaker 2: school students and stuff. So I did my all-girl high school.
- 24:21Speaker 2: And that was a bummer because it was on Zoom.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Sometimes it's hard to see. And they had the masks. Oh, gosh.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I had to be on Zoom. Even though it was
- 24:28Speaker 2: down the street, I'm like, I could do it, you know?
- 24:32Speaker 2: And so then I just see them with the masks
- 24:33Speaker 2: and they're wearing their, like, you know.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Uniforms?
- 24:35Speaker 2: Like, their uniforms and stuff. And so I don't know
- 24:37Speaker 2: if they're laughing or anything. And I'm trying to tell
- 24:39Speaker 2: them stories. Zoom's already hard. Already that sucked. Then I
- 24:41Speaker 2: did my son's all-boys school. And that I pretty much liked.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I was happy that he was there. But it's still,
- 24:50Speaker 2: it's weird when you look out and they are just
- 24:52Speaker 2: kind of like, and then if you have eye contact
- 24:55Speaker 2: with them, it's kind of weird because they're like, they're
- 24:57Speaker 2: just weird kids. They're not like a normal audience. It's
- 25:00Speaker 2: just a very strange thing to do.
- 25:02Speaker 7: Think about it when you go to a college, like
- 25:03Speaker 7: who's coming to see the comic? I know you're talking
- 25:05Speaker 7: about more like a speaking thing, but it's not seniors,
- 25:08Speaker 7: it's freshmen. So those are like, the seniors are out
- 25:10Speaker 7: doing stuff. The freshmen are 18. Some of them haven't
- 25:12Speaker 7: lived much of life. So if you're saying like, Anything
- 25:15Speaker 7: that is adult, they're like, I don't know.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Are we laughing? You know, they don't know how to
- 25:19Speaker 4: just feel it themselves.
- 25:20Speaker 7: They're like, what do we, is this what everybody's doing?
- 25:23Speaker 4: So like, that's a weird aspect of it.
- 25:24Speaker 6: Yes.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Not knowing themselves.
- 25:26Speaker 2: The few times I performed doing standup, I, at a college,
- 25:30Speaker 2: I thought they're going to want to hear like sorority
- 25:33Speaker 2: fraternity parties.
- 25:34Speaker 3: No.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I then went back like during my Chelsea Lately days
- 25:37Speaker 2: and did it. And they loved all the mom stories
- 25:40Speaker 2: about my kids because they, They're like, oh, my God,
- 25:43Speaker 2: that's my mom with my little brother. And so then
- 25:46Speaker 2: I told people that I go, they're so young and innocent.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Yes.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Don't do the drinking sex stuff that makes them feel uncomfortable.
- 25:54Speaker 2: It's better just do some like clean family relatable fun stuff.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Not so much sex. Yes. I know.
- 26:00Speaker 7: It's just like tough to know what to do. And
- 26:02Speaker 7: I know I guess like you're saying that makes perfect sense,
- 26:05Speaker 7: like about a sibling or themselves.
- 26:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:07Speaker 2: But like.
- 26:08Speaker 7: Since I've been doing it, I mean, I'm getting older,
- 26:10Speaker 7: so the distance between me and them is getting, it just.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Varies when I'm going. I think I haven't gone to
- 26:15Speaker 4: a college now, I think, in a while.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Okay, wait. Tell me about the USC stand-up show that
- 26:21Speaker 2: nobody has invited me to do a special class, which
- 26:25Speaker 2: I said I would do it.
- 26:26Speaker 4: They are dying to get you in there. I know it.
- 26:28Speaker 4: For a fact. So it's Wayne Fetterman. You know that comedian,
- 26:32Speaker 4: Wayne Fetterman?
- 26:32Speaker 2: Yes, of course I know him.
- 26:34Speaker 4: He teaches the class.
- 26:35Speaker 8: Oh.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Just text his ass.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Well, I don't have his number.
- 26:38Speaker 7: Okay, well, you're going to have it after this, and
- 26:40Speaker 7: I will say it on the pod. Yes, so he
- 26:43Speaker 7: just said, hey, you want to come talk to the class?
- 26:45Speaker 4: I was like, great.
- 26:48Speaker 7: And so really, they did ask questions.
- 26:50Speaker 4: I told them about my career.
- 26:50Speaker 2: And what was your advice?
- 26:51Speaker 4: Well, here's the thing. My advice is always this.
- 26:54Speaker 7: Some app could come out tomorrow called like Ding Dong,
- 26:57Speaker 7: and you guys blow up, and I'm opening for you.
- 26:58Speaker 4: I was like, I can tell you what.
- 27:00Speaker 7: I made it, but it involves like printing headshots. So
- 27:02Speaker 7: it's sort of like it's not applicable to your life.
- 27:05Speaker 7: So I always say that I can tell you how
- 27:07Speaker 7: I got here, but also everybody's story is different, which
- 27:10Speaker 7: is why I love reading comedians' autobiographies.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Me too.
- 27:13Speaker 4: I love it. Because everybody's path is different.
- 27:16Speaker 7: Now, and time is changing and all the apps are
- 27:19Speaker 7: changing and there's different ways to get an audience. And
- 27:22Speaker 7: I don't want to crap on those ways, but I
- 27:25Speaker 7: only know my way.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Right. I always remember from Steve Martin's, I loved that book.
- 27:30Speaker 2: That it was Second Show Fridays that made him quit
- 27:33Speaker 2: doing live stand-up.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Late Friday. Everybody's been drinking. They worked all day. They're tired.
- 27:39Speaker 7: And I'm already like the Sarah McLachlan of stand-up comedy.
- 27:42Speaker 4: So they're like, just falling asleep to my voice. I'm like,
- 27:45Speaker 4: hey guys, what's up? And have a good day.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Now, okay, so you went to college.
- 27:52Speaker 6: Yes, I did.
- 27:53Speaker 2: And then how soon after college did you try stand-up?
- 27:55Speaker 4: I tried stand-up my senior year of college. I kind
- 27:57Speaker 4: of crashed in music, open mic.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Did you always kind of fantasize about it or dream
- 28:01Speaker 2: about it as a kid?
- 28:03Speaker 7: I never– I don't– I never refer to myself as
- 28:06Speaker 7: like a student of stand-up because I didn't adore it
- 28:08Speaker 7: growing up. I loved certain comedic actors. Whoopi Goldberg, Martin Short, whatever,
- 28:14Speaker 7: Wanda Sykes, Chris Rock.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Ace Ventura. Not– or Robin Williams. Yeah. I love how
- 28:20Speaker 4: I said Ace Ventura. We all know I meant Jim Carrey. Yeah.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Point is, I liked funny movies and stuff.
- 28:27Speaker 7: And it wasn't until my senior year of high school,
- 28:29Speaker 7: because I was doing speech and debate.
- 28:30Speaker 4: Have you ever heard of that? Yes. Okay.
- 28:31Speaker 7: I was doing humorous interpretation. So I was being funny
- 28:35Speaker 7: from my freshman year of high school to senior year.
- 28:37Speaker 7: So I had that single performer feeling of what it's
- 28:41Speaker 7: like to get laughs from a group, even if it
- 28:42Speaker 7: was a classroom on the weekend of a high school
- 28:45Speaker 7: or in high school. So then my friend in speech
- 28:48Speaker 7: and debate burned me Jim Gaffigan's CD. And that was
- 28:52Speaker 7: my first time listening to stand-up comedy.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Oh, really? So you didn't watch like specials and stuff
- 28:56Speaker 2: on cable TV? We didn't have cable.
- 28:57Speaker 4: I had a single mom.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 28:59Speaker 4: I was a teacher. And then we got a stepdad
- 29:01Speaker 4: for a little while and he didn't let us have cable.
- 29:03Speaker 2: I always say that I apologize because right now there's
- 29:07Speaker 2: a big flex in saying, you know, you need to
- 29:09Speaker 2: be poor. You need to be poor as a kid.
- 29:11Speaker 4: I'm sitting here with the elitist.
- 29:12Speaker 2: So I did. We did have cable. And I really
- 29:17Speaker 2: fell in love with stand up, which was a show
- 29:18Speaker 2: called A & E, which was a network evening at
- 29:22Speaker 2: the improv and they shot it at the improv on Melrose.
- 29:25Speaker 2: That's cool. And that's where I saw like, you know,
- 29:27Speaker 2: Ray Romano and all these people as.
- 29:29Speaker 4: A kid, as a kid.
- 29:30Speaker 2: So I did get to see it.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:32Speaker 2: And I'd stay up late and watch Joan Rivers and stuff.
- 29:36Speaker 4: That's cool.
- 29:37Speaker 2: But you're younger than them. So I don't know.
- 29:38Speaker 4: I didn't really– my humor I just got to see
- 29:41Speaker 4: through movies.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:43Speaker 7: But it's interesting that when I first started stand-up, I
- 29:45Speaker 7: was not like my heroes really. I was very– it
- 29:48Speaker 7: came out of me fairly subdued, subtle and dark.
- 29:51Speaker 4: I don't know how to explain it, but.
- 29:53Speaker 2: But that's, that's good.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:55Speaker 4: It was just, I thought I would be more like
- 29:58Speaker 4: animated or something.
- 29:59Speaker 8: Right.
- 29:59Speaker 4: But I, I liked that CD of Jim's.
- 30:02Speaker 7: It didn't make, and I think he's an excellent comic,
- 30:05Speaker 7: but at that time it didn't like make me fall
- 30:06Speaker 7: in love with standup.
- 30:07Speaker 4: It just made me go, is that something I could do?
- 30:10Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 30:12Speaker 7: And then I decided to go to theater school, which,
- 30:14Speaker 7: you know, my school was not known for theater, but
- 30:16Speaker 7: that was a benefit because then I got to perform
- 30:18Speaker 7: a lot because it wasn't very competitive.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Um.
- 30:21Speaker 4: And I did a bunch of plays and a musical
- 30:23Speaker 4: and I was in.
- 30:25Speaker 7: Birds, Aristophanes' Birds. That was my first play in college
- 30:28Speaker 7: and my mom came to see it. I was in
- 30:29Speaker 7: like a full tan bodysuit. My face was painted. I
- 30:33Speaker 7: was playing an emu. And my mom is like the
- 30:35Speaker 7: most supportive person in the world. And she came up
- 30:37Speaker 7: to me afterwards and she was like, are you sure
- 30:39Speaker 7: this is what you want to be doing?
- 30:40Speaker 4: I was like, I don't know, man.
- 30:44Speaker 2: So did you... So then when you graduated?
- 30:48Speaker 4: It wasn't until senior year that I kind of crashed
- 30:50Speaker 4: a music open mic.
- 30:51Speaker 7: Because I started coming home. I live with a bunch
- 30:53Speaker 7: of girls in this house. All the houses at Miami
- 30:55Speaker 7: are named in a fun way. So ours was named
- 30:58Speaker 7: Tequila Mockingbird. And I lived with like seven other girls.
- 31:01Speaker 7: And I would kind of come home from class and
- 31:03Speaker 7: stand in front of the TV and make them laugh.
- 31:06Speaker 7: And so my friends really were very encouraging. Like, you're
- 31:08Speaker 7: so funny. What if you tried stand up? And so
- 31:12Speaker 7: that was like how it started. And I crashed a
- 31:14Speaker 7: music open mic. my first time doing standup, it was
- 31:16Speaker 7: truly like 50 of my friends coming to enjoy me.
- 31:19Speaker 7: And so it was a great experience.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Yes. Okay. So we have a lot of similarities. So
- 31:23Speaker 2: that is why I wanted to be a standup because
- 31:26Speaker 2: I was in a sorority house and I would re
- 31:28Speaker 2: the hot night going out was Thursday nights and Friday
- 31:31Speaker 2: morning would be Friday morning with Heather. And like, I
- 31:35Speaker 2: would literally recap the whole night of who hooked up
- 31:37Speaker 2: with who and like act out things. And And I
- 31:40Speaker 2: remember one time these girls were like, oh, do we
- 31:42Speaker 2: miss breakfast with Heather or whatever? And I was like,
- 31:45Speaker 2: how can I make this a job? Because what were
- 31:48Speaker 2: you studying at USC? I was communication, which at the
- 31:51Speaker 2: time I thought it was a really kind of dumb major.
- 31:53Speaker 2: It was like, honestly, it was sort of an easier one.
- 31:56Speaker 2: But I was like, well, I can't be the business
- 32:00Speaker 2: major because it was like too much math. But I
- 32:02Speaker 2: took like a marketing class and stuff. But then halfway
- 32:06Speaker 2: through I wanted to do I realized I really wanted
- 32:09Speaker 2: to be, to do this. I was, I admitted it.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Cause when you're from LA, it's like embarrassing to say
- 32:15Speaker 2: you want to be an actor.
- 32:16Speaker 4: It's hard to put yourself out there in general, whether
- 32:18Speaker 4: you're from here or not.
- 32:19Speaker 2: And so then I was like, but I'm too far along.
- 32:24Speaker 2: So I'm not going to change majors, but I took
- 32:26Speaker 2: like for two units, character acting, two units, the improv class,
- 32:30Speaker 2: two units, LA at night, which the Groundlings came in
- 32:33Speaker 2: and like did a performance.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Was it any, Anybody you remember from that? Groundlings?
- 32:39Speaker 2: Not in the little group, but I did start doing Groundlings.
- 32:41Speaker 2: And I remember my sorority sister said, oh, tonight's class
- 32:44Speaker 2: is the Groundlings, Heather. This is something you would be into.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Like my friends, like your friends, like kind of knew
- 32:50Speaker 2: what your talent was or whatever. And then figuring, you know,
- 32:54Speaker 2: and figuring it out and then enjoying, like, how do
- 32:57Speaker 2: I make this a thing? Right.
- 32:58Speaker 4: That's the hardest part.
- 32:59Speaker 2: So then when did you come to L.A.? I came
- 33:01Speaker 2: in 2011.
- 33:02Speaker 8: Wow.
- 33:03Speaker 7: So I started stand-up in Chicago. After college, tried it
- 33:06Speaker 7: a little, moved to Chicago, thought I'll do theater. Had
- 33:09Speaker 7: a couple bad auditions.
- 33:10Speaker 4: I mean, me doing a monologue? Oh my gosh.
- 33:13Speaker 7: It was like so nerve-wracking. I remember auditioning at the
- 33:16Speaker 7: Goodman Theater, which is one of the best theaters in Chicago,
- 33:18Speaker 7: and I really biffed it.
- 33:20Speaker 4: It wasn't like terrible, like I embarrassed myself, but I
- 33:24Speaker 4: did in my own way. It was just a bad audition.
- 33:27Speaker 7: I did one play in Chicago, and then I thought,
- 33:29Speaker 7: I don't want to come to rehearsal to get paid
- 33:32Speaker 7: barely anything to do a play I don't really care about.
- 33:35Speaker 7: So that's when I started taking things into my own hands.
- 33:38Speaker 7: And I said, I'm going to write stand-up. And I
- 33:39Speaker 7: used to like sit down and write it. I don't
- 33:41Speaker 7: do that anymore.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I did too.
- 33:43Speaker 4: I would like sit– because I would write a monologue basically.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Also, I was pretty good typing.
- 33:47Speaker 7: I feel pretty good about it too. I still feel
- 33:49Speaker 7: like I want to be a secretary if things don't
- 33:51Speaker 7: work out.
- 33:51Speaker 4: I love organizing and typing things.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Phone calls and having a headset. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:56Speaker 4: That would be cool.
- 33:57Speaker 7: But yeah, so then I– Went to Chicago, was there
- 33:59Speaker 7: for four years and had good success there. That's how
- 34:04Speaker 7: I got snagged by Robbie Praw for Just for Laughs.
- 34:08Speaker 2: That's a big.
- 34:09Speaker 4: The new face of comedy.
- 34:10Speaker 2: I'm just letting people know. Yeah.
- 34:12Speaker 4: Yes.
- 34:12Speaker 2: In Montreal.
- 34:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Yes.
- 34:13Speaker 7: So that was my big break, I would say. That
- 34:16Speaker 7: was the impetus for me moving to L.A. So that
- 34:18Speaker 7: was 2011.
- 34:19Speaker 4: I was a new face. And then I've been in L.A.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Since.
- 34:23Speaker 7: I live in New York a little bit because I
- 34:25Speaker 7: wrote on my first writing job was Crashing.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Which is a show about stand-up. Oh, yes, I love
- 34:29Speaker 2: that show. I didn't know you wrote on that. Oh, wait,
- 34:32Speaker 2: I did know that you wrote on that.
- 34:33Speaker 4: That was my first writing job. That's how I, you know, were.
- 34:36Speaker 2: There were some really great moments in that show that
- 34:40Speaker 2: were very realistic to stand-up. But I still feel like
- 34:45Speaker 2: stand-up was the hardest thing to sell to a network
- 34:49Speaker 2: about a career.
- 34:50Speaker 4: As a woman.
- 34:52Speaker 2: I mean, yeah.
- 34:53Speaker 4: We have Grace Under Fire and what else?
- 34:55Speaker 2: Roseanne. No, she didn't. But she didn't play.
- 34:57Speaker 4: But this is what I mean.
- 34:58Speaker 2: But they never want you to– they, like, never love
- 35:01Speaker 2: seeing the career of stand-up. And I'm like, that's what's
- 35:04Speaker 2: always– that's what's so funny. And, like, I sold two
- 35:07Speaker 2: shows about my life and both of them were like,
- 35:09Speaker 2: we can't have you be a stand-up. You're going to
- 35:11Speaker 2: be– I know. They were really adverse to that, right? Oh,
- 35:13Speaker 2: you're going to work out a TV– you're going to
- 35:15Speaker 2: be a newscaster or you're going to be a makeup
- 35:17Speaker 2: artist to a star or, like, it could never be–
- 35:21Speaker 2: And I'm like, but that's what's so unique and funny
- 35:23Speaker 2: is that I'm this mom that's doing stand up and
- 35:28Speaker 2: my kids see what I'm doing. And just like Seinfeld, like,
- 35:30Speaker 2: why can't that be? But they must have done enough
- 35:34Speaker 2: studies or something or why they think that like people
- 35:38Speaker 2: at home can't.
- 35:38Speaker 4: That people don't like watching women.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Not necessarily women, but they don't really understand the niche
- 35:46Speaker 2: and the humor of.
- 35:47Speaker 3: The day to day.
- 35:47Speaker 4: But people really did latch on to that show.
- 35:49Speaker 2: I liked it.
- 35:51Speaker 4: A lot of comedy fans love that show. I was
- 35:53Speaker 4: a little.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Confused that I felt like, how old is he? That's
- 35:57Speaker 2: what I was confused by.
- 35:58Speaker 4: For sure.
- 35:59Speaker 2: He was playing like a 22-year-old, but he was like 40.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Morton Short and Clifford.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Yeah. And he's going down the aisles.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Yes, I totally understand.
- 36:10Speaker 2: But I liked just the stand-up. But I wonder if
- 36:15Speaker 2: it's a little too of a small. It might be.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Sometimes when I'm like, oh my gosh, I don't really
- 36:21Speaker 2: want to do standup anymore. I'm like, I don't want
- 36:23Speaker 2: to stop doing standup ever because it's such a small
- 36:26Speaker 2: percentage of people that can actually do it. And once
- 36:28Speaker 2: you get to that place that you can pop up
- 36:31Speaker 2: in there and talk for an hour and do pretty
- 36:33Speaker 2: well at it, I think you got to keep it
- 36:35Speaker 2: up because it's just such a unique.
- 36:38Speaker 4: Talent that you share. If I take too long a break,
- 36:40Speaker 4: I can still feel the nerves or I'm definitely off.
- 36:43Speaker 4: I don't feel like I'm... In the groove.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:46Speaker 4: But you're right. It's definitely something I wouldn't. I've taken breaks.
- 36:50Speaker 4: I've needed to take breaks.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:51Speaker 4: For sure. And there are times where I felt very,
- 36:53Speaker 4: very done with it.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 4: Particularly after my last special. I was just really done.
- 36:59Speaker 7: I think it was the timing of it came out
- 37:01Speaker 7: August of 2020.
- 37:02Speaker 2: And pandemonium. What? That's when I brought up my special.
- 37:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I thought it would be like a hit because
- 37:10Speaker 2: everyone was bored and at home, but I'm like, no,
- 37:12Speaker 2: it really wasn't.
- 37:12Speaker 4: I think they were really bored at home and didn't
- 37:15Speaker 4: even want to watch anything like that. I don't know.
- 37:18Speaker 7: At the beginning, I think if we had really seen
- 37:19Speaker 7: the beginning, which is when they planned to, but I
- 37:21Speaker 7: was early days on HBO Max and I'm not famous.
- 37:24Speaker 7: So they did not market it at all. And I'm
- 37:26Speaker 7: not just blaming it on that. Like, I don't know
- 37:28Speaker 7: what would have happened, but like they didn't, you know,
- 37:30Speaker 7: I'm not on a billboard or a side of a bus.
- 37:33Speaker 2: It was just on there. And then how did they say,
- 37:37Speaker 2: guess what? Your time has come, girl. Netflix is a Holland.
- 37:41Speaker 4: This I produced myself. This last special I produced myself.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Oh, you did? But they bought it. Thankfully.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I licensed it to them.
- 37:48Speaker 7: So I produced it myself in December of 2022 and
- 37:51Speaker 7: was just like fingers crossed here. And I did one
- 37:54Speaker 7: take because it was my hometown theater of 1,100 seats
- 37:58Speaker 7: and aforementioned.
- 37:59Speaker 4: Not famous. So I could not sell Dayton, Ohio twice. 2,200 people.
- 38:03Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 38:06Speaker 4: So yeah, there's a lot of factors.
- 38:07Speaker 2: So just for people to know, what she's talking about
- 38:09Speaker 2: is normally when you do a special, you film two
- 38:12Speaker 2: shows in one night just so you have it. Which
- 38:14Speaker 2: would be the smart thing to do. Yes and no, though. Okay,
- 38:18Speaker 2: so I know a couple of people that have done
- 38:20Speaker 2: the one take and then after, just like a sitcom taping,
- 38:24Speaker 2: if something flubbed up, if you went blah, blah, blah
- 38:26Speaker 2: or whatever- Then they're like, hey, just stay seated for
- 38:29Speaker 2: a minute. Heather's going to come out and just say.
- 38:32Speaker 2: And then my son said, happy birthday.
- 38:35Speaker 8: Yes.
- 38:35Speaker 2: OK, we got it. We got it.
- 38:37Speaker 4: And they always are so surprisingly on board for that.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, totally.
- 38:40Speaker 4: The crowd. So I took maybe one thing like. And
- 38:47Speaker 4: this is how I say it. Like I did that.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Oh, so maybe once. Because you kind of were editing yourself. You, like,
- 38:52Speaker 2: let's start again.
- 38:53Speaker 7: But also like hair, like how, you know what I'm saying?
- 38:56Speaker 7: Like there's a couple of places where there's one like this.
- 38:59Speaker 4: It eventually goes down. Thank God it worked itself out.
- 39:02Speaker 4: My hair looks like I work in a mattress store
- 39:03Speaker 4: and I just spend the whole shift testing them out.
- 39:07Speaker 4: But I like it. I never try to really just
- 39:09Speaker 4: let it be.
- 39:11Speaker 2: So, yeah, I did my, I produced my special myself.
- 39:15Speaker 2: But nobody wanted it. Yeah, well, that's kind of the-
- 39:18Speaker 2: So nobody wanted it, so then I just put it out.
- 39:19Speaker 4: That's part of the course, though. Let's be real.
- 39:20Speaker 2: So then I put it on the Amazon Prime, and
- 39:24Speaker 2: we did put it out like somewhere in first season.
- 39:28Speaker 2: I call it like first, second, third season of COVID.
- 39:31Speaker 2: It was somewhere in the first season of COVID that
- 39:33Speaker 2: I put it out.
- 39:33Speaker 4: I was first season too.
- 39:35Speaker 2: It was fine. Like my Juicy Scoop was supported and
- 39:38Speaker 2: bought it. But like as far as like any kind
- 39:40Speaker 2: of press or like. bump of people discovering who I am. No,
- 39:45Speaker 2: it didn't do that. I know.
- 39:47Speaker 7: And it is interesting that it happens. I will say,
- 39:50Speaker 7: like we talked about, my first thing on Netflix was
- 39:53Speaker 7: the half hour.
- 39:53Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 39:54Speaker 4: When you're on the road like we have been and
- 39:55Speaker 4: kind of did the classic way.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 7: Gathering fans can be like drops in a bucket. And
- 40:00Speaker 7: then maybe your time on Chelsea was like a big pour.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:03Speaker 7: And for me, that half hour was a big pour.
- 40:05Speaker 7: It kind of got me out there. But then I
- 40:07Speaker 7: didn't do, they didn't want my hour after that.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Yes.
- 40:10Speaker 4: And I went to HBO. So, I don't know.
- 40:14Speaker 7: Also, similarly to what you're saying, I also didn't, like
- 40:19Speaker 7: I got, I did get good press, but.
- 40:21Speaker 4: It's not like it changed much is all.
- 40:23Speaker 7: So it's like, even if you had gotten some like,
- 40:25Speaker 7: I had the New York Times, I got best debut special.
- 40:29Speaker 4: And still HBO was.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Like, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah.
- 40:34Speaker 4: No extra help. We actually don't know her.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I was always yelling it to the rooftops of the
- 40:42Speaker 2: industry people. of like, listen, there's a lot of female
- 40:48Speaker 2: comics that you've heard of. And there's a bunch that
- 40:51Speaker 2: are now, you know, if they have kids, their kids
- 40:54Speaker 2: are little, they do their specials when they're pregnant, everything.
- 40:57Speaker 2: I go, but I'm the only one that's walking around
- 41:00Speaker 2: telling stories of actually raising like school age, high school kids.
- 41:04Speaker 4: That's true.
- 41:05Speaker 2: And, you know, so I'm like, this is like a
- 41:07Speaker 2: unique thing.
- 41:07Speaker 3: It is.
- 41:08Speaker 2: But nobody cared. Like, nobody was like, no one thought
- 41:12Speaker 2: that was like, and like, I'm like, isn't this an
- 41:14Speaker 2: interesting story? And they're like, no. Yeah.
- 41:18Speaker 4: But that's the thing.
- 41:19Speaker 7: I know I've said it now three times and it
- 41:20Speaker 7: makes me seem like I'm some sort of like angry.
- 41:23Speaker 4: I'm not an angry feminist. I'm a feminist.
- 41:25Speaker 7: But it's one of those things where I keep saying
- 41:26Speaker 7: this because I had a podcast with my mom.
- 41:29Speaker 4: It's called We Called Your Mom.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:30Speaker 4: And my mom and I would call my friend's mom.
- 41:32Speaker 2: It's like, we would have called your mom.
- 41:34Speaker 4: And it was fun. Like, you know, the people who
- 41:36Speaker 4: love it, love it.
- 41:38Speaker 7: But eventually when it got canceled, they were like, I
- 41:41Speaker 7: guess there's just not an audience of people that like moms.
- 41:44Speaker 2: You're just like, what?
- 41:46Speaker 4: I mean, so this is what I mean. It's like
- 41:47Speaker 4: they genuinely just don't want to hear it.
- 41:51Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 41:53Speaker 4: Maybe I should have– people at home are like, maybe
- 41:56Speaker 4: it should have been better.
- 41:56Speaker 2: I don't know. Okay. Tell me about your experience as
- 42:01Speaker 2: a female comic. What have you loved about it? Everyone's like,
- 42:04Speaker 2: is it hard as a woman? Right, right, right. Like
- 42:07Speaker 2: there are those things that I think with me– It
- 42:11Speaker 2: was always like, okay, it's a lineup because I started
- 42:14Speaker 2: in LA. So it's a lineup of eight people. It's
- 42:17Speaker 2: going to be six guys, you know, at least one
- 42:21Speaker 2: or two will be not white and then there'll be
- 42:24Speaker 2: one girl. Yes. That was in my day.
- 42:26Speaker 4: That was my experience as well.
- 42:27Speaker 2: That was in my day. Yeah.
- 42:28Speaker 4: Particularly.
- 42:29Speaker 2: And so, like, you wanted to be friends with other females,
- 42:31Speaker 2: but at the same time.
- 42:32Speaker 4: You were either always across town from each other.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Or it's going to be you or me.
- 42:36Speaker 4: Or it was a little competitive because it's sort of
- 42:38Speaker 4: one at a time.
- 42:38Speaker 2: It's going to be you or me and... you have
- 42:41Speaker 2: brown hair now and I kind of have brown hair.
- 42:46Speaker 2: So we cross each other off.
- 42:47Speaker 4: Yeah. We cancel each other out. But the thing about that,
- 42:50Speaker 4: I will say like, yes, it was still like that
- 42:52Speaker 4: when I started. Yes.
- 42:53Speaker 7: Things have definitely changed in Chicago for sure. But doing
- 42:58Speaker 7: the math on that or the odds, right?
- 43:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 43:00Speaker 7: Someone goes to see that show. If you don't kill,
- 43:03Speaker 7: they don't leave. It's five guys on that show aren't great.
- 43:07Speaker 7: Two of them are amazing and they love them.
- 43:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:10Speaker 7: And you don't do well. they don't leave there saying
- 43:12Speaker 7: men aren't funny. But the odds are against them. If
- 43:15Speaker 7: you did the probability, men wouldn't be funny.
- 43:18Speaker 4: If you did the probability.
- 43:20Speaker 7: But it's just you and women aren't funny because they
- 43:22Speaker 7: saw you. So it's just frustrating in that way.
- 43:24Speaker 2: I never thought of it that way. You're so right
- 43:27Speaker 2: with the women aren't funny.
- 43:29Speaker 4: It's frustrating.
- 43:29Speaker 7: And then women only talk about sex. The stereotypes are
- 43:32Speaker 7: what have bothered me the most. When I first started,
- 43:35Speaker 7: I had these little rules. that I was naive about,
- 43:38Speaker 7: which were, I'll never take a set list on stage.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Now I always do. It's just how I am.
- 43:42Speaker 2: You'll never take a what?
- 43:43Speaker 4: A set list.
- 43:44Speaker 2: What is that? I always have a set list.
- 43:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:46Speaker 2: I thought you said a cellist. I just thought it
- 43:48Speaker 2: was some new, like, like, um, drug that would make
- 43:51Speaker 2: you calm down or something. And I wasn't aware of
- 43:53Speaker 2: a set list. No, I agree.
- 43:55Speaker 4: I do too.
- 43:55Speaker 7: That was my rule, but I don't care any longer
- 43:58Speaker 7: because I am performing for you. And if I want
- 43:59Speaker 7: to look down, I will.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:01Speaker 4: Two, I said I would never repeat a joke. That's
- 44:04Speaker 4: something I just didn't understand. These are just my little
- 44:06Speaker 4: rules I thought of.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Repeat a joke in the.
- 44:08Speaker 4: Meaning, like, I thought I would just always do new material.
- 44:10Speaker 6: Oh, God.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Which is hilarious.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Okay, yes.
- 44:12Speaker 4: And three, never hook up with a comic.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Those were my rules. Uh-huh.
- 44:16Speaker 7: And then my other, like, general idea was that I
- 44:19Speaker 7: wouldn't talk about sex because I was so annoyed by
- 44:23Speaker 7: seeing sort of, like, more exhibitionist behavior. Like, it was
- 44:27Speaker 7: oftentimes I felt like at the open mics.
- 44:29Speaker 4: Yes. It would be.
- 44:30Speaker 7: sort of when they are talking about sex, less of
- 44:33Speaker 7: a joke and more like, he fucked me in the
- 44:35Speaker 7: butt and poop was everywhere. And it's like, oh no,
- 44:40Speaker 7: you know, this is just more of like a tale
- 44:42Speaker 7: that's not really has jokes. So eventually I obviously really
- 44:45Speaker 7: got over that because I became a good joke writer.
- 44:48Speaker 7: And even my last special, like I, it's been after
- 44:52Speaker 7: my half hour, it took me a long time to
- 44:54Speaker 7: be okay actually with writing sex jokes. That's a long
- 44:56Speaker 7: time into my career. I'm not saying I never did.
- 44:59Speaker 7: I'm just saying for a special. Because that special has
- 45:01Speaker 7: a lot of sex jokes in it. But I just
- 45:03Speaker 7: had to get over it because I was like, I
- 45:06Speaker 7: wouldn't have to keep talking about it if they were
- 45:08Speaker 7: good at it. So I guess I just got to
- 45:10Speaker 7: keep talking about it, you know? I mean, if men
- 45:13Speaker 7: were good at sex. So it's sort of like, I'm
- 45:15Speaker 7: going to keep talking about it and making jokes about it.
- 45:17Speaker 7: And if they're good jokes, they're good jokes. It doesn't
- 45:19Speaker 7: matter the subject.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Well, I don't think there's any problem with talking about
- 45:22Speaker 2: sex either. But I had the same feeling like after
- 45:26Speaker 2: I'd been around for a while and I'd go see
- 45:29Speaker 2: like a new crop of girls or whatever. And this
- 45:32Speaker 2: was probably like 15 years ago. I was kind of like,
- 45:35Speaker 2: all right. And my advice to younger comics was like
- 45:39Speaker 2: start out clean.
- 45:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Because the dirty is easy. I mean, it's good advice.
- 45:43Speaker 2: But coming up with a really funny story about doing
- 45:49Speaker 2: laundry with your immigrant grandmother that's unique to you and whatever,
- 45:54Speaker 2: that's a story that no one can steal, that it's
- 45:58Speaker 2: not a Tinder joke, it's not an anal sex joke.
- 46:02Speaker 2: It's like a joke that, and if you get on TV,
- 46:05Speaker 2: you could use that. So then as you get better,
- 46:08Speaker 2: the luxury of being good at the craft, Is that
- 46:11Speaker 2: if you do want to be a little dirtier or whatever,
- 46:14Speaker 2: then you can. But if you start out that way,
- 46:16Speaker 2: then there's nowhere to go. Yes. So I think that
- 46:18Speaker 2: is good advice to anybody.
- 46:20Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 46:20Speaker 4: And I feel like I agree.
- 46:21Speaker 7: And I did that, I think, for a long time.
- 46:23Speaker 7: And then I was just like, screw it. I'm going
- 46:25Speaker 7: to kind of talk about what is frustrating me.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:28Speaker 7: Because then you can turn that into your fascination and
- 46:31Speaker 7: make something of it or whatever. Have it be cathartic
- 46:33Speaker 7: in that way or helpful to someone else.
- 46:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I love, there's some of your stuff that's really
- 46:40Speaker 2: funny that I was talking about was like, did you
- 46:43Speaker 2: really get the tattoo on your back of your boyfriend's name?
- 46:48Speaker 4: Yes.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Where on your back?
- 46:51Speaker 4: I did it right above Groundlings, over by Groundlings.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Oh, it was where the tattoo place is? Yeah. Is
- 46:55Speaker 2: it still there? And where is that guy today?
- 46:59Speaker 4: He is a realtor in Cincinnati, Ohio. He's happily married
- 47:05Speaker 4: with children.
- 47:05Speaker 2: So he could have a bus bench or he could
- 47:08Speaker 2: have the back of your body to advertise.
- 47:13Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Property of, actually. If you want a hot property or
- 47:17Speaker 2: property of Joe Schmo.
- 47:19Speaker 4: I should have him lease out the other spaces on
- 47:22Speaker 4: my back.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Exactly. And make a profit.
- 47:25Speaker 4: A little commission.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Do you think you'll ever get it removed or changed? No.
- 47:29Speaker 4: I like it. He was a good guy.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Oh, so he wasn't a bad boyfriend. That's good.
- 47:32Speaker 4: Yeah, he was a sweet guy. He was someone I
- 47:34Speaker 4: loved in college.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Was he with you when you got it?
- 47:36Speaker 4: No.
- 47:37Speaker 2: I started dating him. So then how do you spring that?
- 47:39Speaker 2: That could scare someone if it wasn't as serious.
- 47:42Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Like, hey, guess what?
- 47:45Speaker 6: What?
- 47:46Speaker 4: I know. He loved it. I mean, he thought it
- 47:48Speaker 4: was hot.
- 47:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:49Speaker 4: I think we were very in love, and it was
- 47:51Speaker 4: kind of funny, too.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Yeah. You know?
- 47:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:55Speaker 7: I had just moved to LA and he lived in Cincinnati.
- 47:57Speaker 7: He had lived out here first and I would visit him.
- 47:59Speaker 7: Then he went back home because I'm from Ohio too.
- 48:02Speaker 7: And then I moved out here to try to be
- 48:04Speaker 7: a comic. I was working all these jobs and it
- 48:07Speaker 7: was like, we did long distance for three.
- 48:10Speaker 4: Years out here. My first three years in LA.
- 48:12Speaker 7: So early in the days of me out here, my
- 48:14Speaker 7: friends were like, let's get tattoos.
- 48:15Speaker 4: And I was like, all right, I'll just get that.
- 48:18Speaker 4: So he did love it. But yeah, now, I mean,
- 48:20Speaker 4: it ended up being a good joke.
- 48:23Speaker 2: It was funny, your joke about it.
- 48:25Speaker 7: And it kept growing. That's kind of my favorite. That's
- 48:28Speaker 7: the beauty and the mess of filming a special.
- 48:30Speaker 6: Yes.
- 48:30Speaker 7: Because you can write tags for years or expand a
- 48:32Speaker 7: joke for years because initially it was just sort of.
- 48:34Speaker 7: this is the kind of commitment you can expect from me.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Yeah. And then in.
- 48:38Speaker 4: The last special, I was like, do you know how
- 48:39Speaker 4: hard it is to get laid with another man's name
- 48:40Speaker 4: on your back? Right. Because that's all the things.
- 48:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not hard at all. Well, now the next
- 48:45Speaker 2: part of it is.
- 48:46Speaker 4: The list underneath?
- 48:47Speaker 2: No, but also like, also not a great idea. You
- 48:51Speaker 2: could really scare a guy away. It's true. You know, like,
- 48:54Speaker 2: this psycho got my fucking name. Yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 4: I know, but it was, I'd known him since college.
- 48:59Speaker 2: What about a face?
- 49:00Speaker 4: His face? I think I would change that by now.
- 49:04Speaker 4: But faces are hard to tattoo.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Wait, if this was a cheesy sitcom and we were
- 49:07Speaker 2: writing it, I think it has to be, okay, here's
- 49:11Speaker 2: a sitcom. I'm my brother. I'm the boozy fucked up
- 49:19Speaker 2: aunt or whatever. raising the kids because, of course, my
- 49:22Speaker 2: brother is a widow.
- 49:24Speaker 4: Of course, my brother.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Is a widow. And you're the guest star. And he
- 49:28Speaker 2: just got his real estate license. We're really hoping it's
- 49:31Speaker 2: going to be. We make a couple selling sunset jokes,
- 49:34Speaker 2: a couple things like that. And then- He's like, yeah,
- 49:37Speaker 2: I'm at this, you know, I'm like, you were out
- 49:40Speaker 2: late last night. Lucky auntie took out the kids off
- 49:42Speaker 2: to school. I was with this girl, you know, that's
- 49:45Speaker 2: our second date.
- 49:46Speaker 4: Did I roll out of the closet?
- 49:47Speaker 2: Yeah. And then like the second act is then you
- 49:50Speaker 2: show up and you have the tattoo that's like, Like
- 49:55Speaker 2: John Miller will, you know, from condos to castles, John
- 50:02Speaker 2: Miller can do it all. And you put it all
- 50:05Speaker 2: on your back and you're like, what's up lover? Or worse,
- 50:10Speaker 2: you're like, oh wait, I have a better joke. You go,
- 50:14Speaker 2: I'm getting my real estate license too. Look what I got.
- 50:16Speaker 2: And it's the two of you as a couple, a
- 50:18Speaker 2: real estate couple. billboard on your back tattoo and then
- 50:22Speaker 2: he's like what do i do.
- 50:26Speaker 4: Run he would run you would say we needed a restraining.
- 50:30Speaker 2: Right so you could get into that yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 7: I am on a billboard like that for and it
- 50:35Speaker 7: says divorced question mark and i'm dressed as a lawyer
- 50:38Speaker 7: and so there's john phillips who was the other onset
- 50:40Speaker 7: writer on the movie good boys we were the punch-up
- 50:43Speaker 7: onset writers wait movie So we're in the background on
- 50:46Speaker 7: a bench and it says divorce.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Oh, in the movie. In the movie. Oh, my gosh.
- 50:50Speaker 4: So I have put myself on a billboard on a bench.
- 50:55Speaker 2: I was on bus benches when I was a realtor.
- 51:00Speaker 2: My parents were realtors and they had a bunch of
- 51:03Speaker 2: bus benches. Never their faces, just their names. And then
- 51:07Speaker 2: when I got my license, my mom goes– will you
- 51:11Speaker 2: just go down to Target and get something for us?
- 51:13Speaker 2: Will you just go, go? She's being really weird. I'm like,
- 51:14Speaker 2: all right. And so then when I went to the Target,
- 51:17Speaker 2: which is right here, and I turned around to leave
- 51:20Speaker 2: the Target is when I was waiting at the light
- 51:23Speaker 2: and saw my bus bench and that was my gift.
- 51:26Speaker 4: That's very sweet.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Heather McDonald welcomes you to Woodland Hills.
- 51:29Speaker 4: That's very sweet.
- 51:31Speaker 2: It was, but it was also like, I don't really
- 51:33Speaker 2: want to be a realtor, but it was a good
- 51:35Speaker 2: thing to do while I pursued stand-up and acting.
- 51:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I was going to say that does seem like
- 51:39Speaker 4: a pretty good idea.
- 51:39Speaker 2: And that is an interesting gift that someone would get you,
- 51:42Speaker 2: which is just the least.
- 51:42Speaker 7: Please tell me that you've put a special or a
- 51:45Speaker 7: juicy scoop on that bench since.
- 51:47Speaker 2: I have not done the bus bench thing.
- 51:48Speaker 4: You have to bookend it.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Maybe I should write that down, just even.
- 51:52Speaker 4: If it's just for like— Next special, you laying on
- 51:54Speaker 4: the bench?
- 51:56Speaker 2: I thought about when my special came out, because I
- 51:59Speaker 2: remember Kathy Griffin— The story was, I don't even know
- 52:04Speaker 2: if it's true, that she bought her own billboard for
- 52:08Speaker 2: whatever amount it was, which I've looked into it.
- 52:10Speaker 4: Yeah, how much is it?
- 52:11Speaker 2: If it's on sunset, like the hot spot, it can
- 52:15Speaker 2: be anywhere from like $ 25, 000 to $ 100, 000, depending on which
- 52:19Speaker 2: one it is for the month, whatever. I'm sure it
- 52:23Speaker 2: changes with the economy. That she did her own, and
- 52:26Speaker 2: the price I remember hearing is $ 50, 000. And I was like,
- 52:30Speaker 2: that is so badass. Like I, that's her, that she
- 52:34Speaker 2: jokes about the D-list. She has to do it all.
- 52:37Speaker 2: Like fucking, and then I, so there was a moment
- 52:40Speaker 2: where I'm like, do I do this? Because it's one
- 52:43Speaker 2: of my like dreams. But then I'm like, okay, I
- 52:46Speaker 2: don't live that close to it. And next thing I know,
- 52:49Speaker 2: the month will be over and I'll be down that money.
- 52:52Speaker 2: And was it really worth it for me just to drive?
- 52:55Speaker 2: I'm like, am I just going to go and like
- 52:56Speaker 2: bring a Chinese chicken salad and have lunch by it
- 52:58Speaker 2: every day? And then like, oh my God, it's September 29th. Yeah,
- 53:02Speaker 2: September 29th. They're good. And then the guys come and
- 53:04Speaker 2: they start putting best, they put best poster out now.
- 53:08Speaker 2: And like, yeah.
- 53:09Speaker 4: That I also had to pay for it. Yeah.
- 53:11Speaker 2: And I'm like, move it.
- 53:13Speaker 4: It's my time. This is my billboard now. You got
- 53:16Speaker 4: to move out.
- 53:18Speaker 7: I had someone Photoshop one for me because there was
- 53:22Speaker 7: an empty one in Hillhurst, which was my neighborhood in
- 53:24Speaker 7: Los Feliz.
- 53:25Speaker 2: That is so smart. Why don't you just do that?
- 53:26Speaker 2: I did.
- 53:27Speaker 4: Hold on.
- 53:29Speaker 2: I'm writing that down.
- 53:30Speaker 4: I posted it.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Why do I even have to do it? No one
- 53:31Speaker 2: would even know.
- 53:32Speaker 4: No one would know. You just face it.
- 53:33Speaker 6: Yes.
- 53:34Speaker 4: I did it.
- 53:34Speaker 2: I put it on Instagram. And I did. That is
- 53:36Speaker 2: so smart. Yeah. If I was a better woman, you
- 53:44Speaker 2: know how some people start charities or whatever. Mm-hmm. This
- 53:48Speaker 2: might actually happen, okay? But another female stand-up might steal
- 53:53Speaker 2: the idea, and I'm okay with that because they'll be
- 53:55Speaker 2: paying for it. I should say, like if I was like,
- 53:59Speaker 2: maybe in a couple years when I'm like even an older,
- 54:01Speaker 2: more anti-type, I'm going to say, everybody, I bought the
- 54:06Speaker 2: rights to this billboard for the next 12 months. And
- 54:10Speaker 2: every month I'll be featuring a different female stand-up in
- 54:14Speaker 2: their special. That would be amazing. It's never going to happen.
- 54:19Speaker 4: We know some people who could do it.
- 54:20Speaker 2: No, just kidding. No, it could be a really great idea.
- 54:23Speaker 7: We need someone who wipes their butt with money to
- 54:26Speaker 7: do that. And I think we can think of a few.
- 54:28Speaker 2: I think we can think of a few. Yeah. And
- 54:31Speaker 2: if they want to do that, they can take the
- 54:33Speaker 2: idea for themselves because at least I have this clip
- 54:36Speaker 2: to know that I came up with it first. But
- 54:37Speaker 2: I'm fine with them spending the money and doing it
- 54:39Speaker 2: and getting the accolades of truly being women support women.
- 54:44Speaker 4: I support women.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:46Speaker 4: Please give me a billboard.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:48Speaker 4: I mean, of course, you always ask for one and
- 54:50Speaker 4: HBO Max was like, no.
- 54:51Speaker 2: But then I also thought, I'm like, if you were
- 54:54Speaker 2: to spend $ 50, 000 on a Sunset Boulevard billboard, wouldn't $ 50, 000
- 55:00Speaker 2: on just online, hardcore marketing, all the algorithms, all the...
- 55:06Speaker 2: Get you so much further, honestly. I think probably. It
- 55:09Speaker 2: really works. Yes, I think so. It's the ego of like.
- 55:11Speaker 4: It almost feels like... It's definitely the ego.
- 55:12Speaker 2: It's the ego and it's like... Also, I think even
- 55:14Speaker 2: like 20 years ago, there were real movers and shakers
- 55:18Speaker 2: and agents driving around, going to lunch in their suits
- 55:22Speaker 2: and stuff. And now they're not.
- 55:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:23Speaker 2: They're either like working from home or it doesn't... They
- 55:27Speaker 2: don't really have the power. So like... But that's who
- 55:30Speaker 2: would see it, kind of.
- 55:31Speaker 4: Now it's comics on their way to the store.
- 55:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 55:34Speaker 4: The comedy store. The grocery. But, yeah. No, also it
- 55:39Speaker 4: benefits the networks, though. That's who they choose to do
- 55:43Speaker 4: it for. Right.
- 55:44Speaker 2: Of course.
- 55:44Speaker 4: They want a famous person.
- 55:45Speaker 2: There with us. Right. I love it. Oh, and I
- 55:50Speaker 2: should put your thing. This is your special.
- 55:51Speaker 4: That's the special.
- 55:52Speaker 2: Now, how did you decide your outfit? That's always my
- 55:54Speaker 2: hardest decision of what to wear doing stand-up. And you
- 55:58Speaker 2: did a classic girl comedy outfit. Hamlet. Black jeans, boots.
- 56:02Speaker 4: Black on black on black.
- 56:03Speaker 2: And a black T-shirt.
- 56:04Speaker 4: This was panic.
- 56:05Speaker 7: This was last minute, maybe 15 before I go on,
- 56:09Speaker 7: freaking out. But I was lucky enough to have Tan
- 56:13Speaker 7: France on. as a friend, give me some options of
- 56:17Speaker 7: what I might like to wear. And he gave me
- 56:19Speaker 7: great ideas.
- 56:20Speaker 4: And I took none.
- 56:22Speaker 2: What were some of the ideas?
- 56:23Speaker 4: No, he did suggest these boots, which were a great suggestion.
- 56:27Speaker 2: Yeah, these are uncomfortable.
- 56:28Speaker 4: Love the boots. And we consulted. Like, he's so lovely
- 56:33Speaker 4: at his job and very good.
- 56:34Speaker 7: So I said, like, I think I might like to
- 56:35Speaker 7: wear a skirt in this one and gave me so
- 56:37Speaker 7: many great options.
- 56:39Speaker 4: I did try them on. I tried them and I
- 56:41Speaker 4: felt good in them.
- 56:42Speaker 2: In fact.
- 56:43Speaker 4: This.
- 56:44Speaker 7: Week I've been just wearing some of them. One of
- 56:45Speaker 7: them is this really fitted jean dress. I got so
- 56:48Speaker 7: many compliments and I'm like, Jesus Christ.
- 56:50Speaker 2: Did you wear it on stage? Yes. Okay.
- 56:52Speaker 7: But I wore none of his suggestions in this because
- 56:55Speaker 7: last minute I just panicked.
- 56:56Speaker 2: There was so much going on. Yes.
- 56:58Speaker 4: I just needed to feel comfortable and it was jeans
- 57:00Speaker 4: and a t-shirt.
- 57:01Speaker 7: And so, and I felt like I packed so much
- 57:04Speaker 7: for my, I shot this in my hometown. I felt
- 57:05Speaker 7: like I packed so much, but then all of a
- 57:07Speaker 7: sudden it's like, I have nothing.
- 57:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:09Speaker 4: And what looks good on camera and you can't wear any.
- 57:11Speaker 2: Sort of, Logo. Logo.
- 57:13Speaker 4: And so this is what it ended up being. I
- 57:15Speaker 4: don't think it's terrible. It's very stagehand.
- 57:19Speaker 2: I think it's such a hard decision in both of
- 57:22Speaker 2: my outfits for my specials. I went with jeans and
- 57:28Speaker 2: one had a sparkly shoe, one had a sparkly top.
- 57:32Speaker 2: I'm still happy with both of them. However, my first one,
- 57:35Speaker 2: the jeans were like too long and why didn't I
- 57:37Speaker 2: get them hemmed or why didn't I think about that?
- 57:39Speaker 2: So it like bothers me when I see them. But
- 57:42Speaker 2: I think it's just a really hard thing to, and
- 57:45Speaker 2: then I see other people now like, Wearing dresses and
- 57:48Speaker 2: skirts and all this. And for the first time in
- 57:50Speaker 2: my life, I'm almost too old to even wear a skirt.
- 57:54Speaker 2: I'm just now wearing skirts and dresses on stage and
- 57:57Speaker 2: being more glam.
- 57:59Speaker 4: I thought you always maybe would have.
- 58:01Speaker 2: No, because I always thought when I started, I thought
- 58:05Speaker 2: legs are distracting and I want them to focus on
- 58:09Speaker 2: the comedy and everything. And that's very true. And then
- 58:11Speaker 2: once I got in my groove of this is what
- 58:14Speaker 2: I'm comfortable wearing- You know, then you just get, you
- 58:18Speaker 2: just want to be comfortable. Yes. And having jeans on
- 58:22Speaker 2: or some type of pant is more comfortable.
- 58:25Speaker 5: Yes.
- 58:25Speaker 4: Heels never work for me on stage. Oh, my goodness.
- 58:28Speaker 4: I feel like that's asking to bomb.
- 58:31Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 58:31Speaker 6: Yes.
- 58:31Speaker 2: I can wear a heel, but it is more comfortable.
- 58:34Speaker 2: When I'm not, I've been like, I can't believe I
- 58:37Speaker 2: just started wearing tennis shoes or like a flat. I
- 58:41Speaker 2: can't believe that I've missed out on life like this.
- 58:44Speaker 2: By wearing heels all these years. Yes.
- 58:47Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, obviously, I wish you could go back
- 58:49Speaker 4: in time for that reason alone.
- 58:52Speaker 2: Okay. So you said you dated a comic. Yes. What
- 58:56Speaker 2: is your relationship with dating comics? Has there been a bunch?
- 59:00Speaker 4: I refuse to be happy. You can convince yourself of anything.
- 59:07Speaker 7: You can say it's great to date a comic because
- 59:08Speaker 7: they get it.
- 59:09Speaker 4: They get I'm Allie.
- 59:11Speaker 7: We get to riff together. Or you're both unwell. I
- 59:16Speaker 7: think it works for some. I think very few, I guess.
- 59:20Speaker 7: There's less comic-comic relationships that last a very long time.
- 59:23Speaker 2: Yes.
- 59:23Speaker 4: I mean, let's be real.
- 59:24Speaker 7: When someone introduces you to someone they brought around to
- 59:26Speaker 7: a club, you're like, eh. seven more times and then
- 59:29Speaker 7: I'll memorize your name. Like a comics partner. A comic
- 59:32Speaker 7: dating women.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it was interesting. Speaking of Kathy Griffin, she just
- 59:36Speaker 2: did a video and she was like talking about the
- 59:39Speaker 2: Russell Brand situation. Okay, I haven't seen that one yet.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Her video. Oh, she just was like, and here's the
- 59:44Speaker 2: thing with female comics. She's like, there aren't many of us,
- 59:47Speaker 2: but like, you know, we don't, she goes, here's a
- 59:49Speaker 2: couple of things that are different. We don't bring like
- 59:51Speaker 2: an entourage of people with us. And I think that's
- 59:55Speaker 2: also true about writing material. When people would say, oh,
- 59:58Speaker 2: do you write your own material? And I'm like, yeah.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: And there was that one time when someone, when I
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: was like, you know, saw that like Kevin Hart brings
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: a bunch of guys with him and he has people,
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: in my opinion, it is my opinion, what I've heard,
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: so don't come after me, that he utilizes other writers
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: to help him with this act, which I think is
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: a really smart thing to do. How are you going
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: to come up with a new hour?
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: Especially when you're living a limited life that doesn't necessarily
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: relate to.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Right. But then I also think I think that's smart.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: But then I also thought some of the jokes of
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: his one of his specials felt inauthentic because it was
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: about having good and good credit or bad credit. And
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: I was like, OK, Kevin, you know, it's OK if
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: you if you want to tell the story about when
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: you were 19 and broke. And it's an authentic story
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: to when you're 19. But like, you can't be talking
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: about like, oh, I moved the money over here and
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: then I moved the money. And I can imagine him
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: hanging out with these friends with him. And this guy
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: who's a funny guy is probably telling the story. He's
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: probably an aspiring comedian or not at that level. And
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: they're all dying laughing. And he's like, make that a
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: bit for me. And the audience did all laugh. Yes.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: And they all will come back to see him. But
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: I'm like, there aren't a lot of women. Like, I
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: can't go... Hey, let me gather up some moms of boys.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Can you guys get in the RV for two weeks?
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Because I need a new hour. And I need to
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: hear all your mom bits. Yeah, your mom bits and
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: about your sons and about your husband farting. I need
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: some new fucking bits here. So get on the RV.
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: And where are my girls at? And then after the show,
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: you guys are going to go out into the audience
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: and get me some fresh dick to bring back to
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: the hotel. But you're not going to tell my husband. And,
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: you know, and then we all get back. And what
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: stays on the road happens on the road stays on
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: the road. Yeah. Like it's a completely different thing.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: It is very different.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: No, instead we're by ourselves.
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: I've never hooked up with someone after a show.
- 1:02:04Speaker 8: Never.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: I would never. I don't feel like dying.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Exactly. That's the thing. It's like- Or dealing.
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: With a man and talking to him for, what? I
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: just talked to you for like an hour. And when
- 1:02:13Speaker 7: people are like, you want to hang?
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: I'm like, I think I said everything.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: I remember one time Margaret Cho had a bit in
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: her act and she's out about her sexuality and bisexuality
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: and everything. And now maybe this didn't happen after a show,
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: but the way she told the story, I imagine it
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: happening after a show where she went And whatever had
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: an orgy or a threesome with these people. And she
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: was funny the way she was telling it about, she
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: said it was like spitting plates, you know, having to
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: like do all these different things. And all I could
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: think about was like, why would you want to do
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: that after a show? Like, all I want to do
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: is get in my, place triple lock the door yes
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: and then like take a shower snacks snacks get in
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: my bed stay up till like three yes you can't
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: ever come down from the high of being so funny
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: but like i was like oh my god the last
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: thing i want to do is like have a sexual
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: encounter with like two strangers that were sitting in the
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: audience i.
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: Think the keyword is unreliable sexual encounter like i don't
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: know what i'm getting Yeah. What are we talking about? Also,
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: we're on the receiving end.
- 1:03:16Speaker 7: We are entered. You know, like we're just like a
- 1:03:19Speaker 7: dark cave. And if you have bacteria, it's sticking with me,
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: not you. It's just sort of like we're left with it.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:26Speaker 7: I'm just not into the risk and I'm not into,
- 1:03:29Speaker 7: it sounds like callous, but I like connection.
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: So I don't want to hang with a stranger.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: I can't rely on.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: You're right.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: You know what? That is the difference between men and women.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: You know the difference between men and women.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: Men are always going like this.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: And women. No, but it really is true. I mean,
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: it doesn't really matter. And I think that's, and also
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: it's always really interesting when you figured out things like
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: that about in life, when you look back at a
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: relationship and you're like, you know, oh my God, like
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: you think of, you thought of it, the relationship with
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: the guy so much more significant and meant so much more.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: And then even if you like, meet them later in
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: life or you reach out to them and they're like, what?
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Why are you contacting me? Like, who the fuck contacts
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: someone after 30 years? And you're like, I thought you
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: were madly in love with me. Like, no, you were
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: just one of many. Like, you were just one and
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: you liked me for a minute until you didn't. And
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: then I, like, moved on. It's like, we're always going
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: to reflect on it differently.
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: Yeah, and I also think, too, we're thinking about things
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: a lot more.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:04:33Speaker 7: And of course, there are always exceptions to the rule. Like,
- 1:04:36Speaker 7: I have always been in touch with my first love's family.
- 1:04:40Speaker 7: Like whenever I'm doing Sacramento Punchline, I stay with them.
- 1:04:42Speaker 7: And I've always been close with this family. And we
- 1:04:46Speaker 7: had a great early relationship. It was like my first
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: love and the person I lost my virginity to. And
- 1:04:51Speaker 7: it was a positive experience.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Does he have a wife now?
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: He's had a wife.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: Yeah. How did the wife feel when you were staying
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: with the in-laws? Like, that's so annoying. The funny girl.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think there's anything more annoying.
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: That's a funny thing.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: Think about anything more annoying than that. Like, So what's
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: going on, Jen, this weekend? Well, Brad's ex-wife, she's doing
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: the punchline and she's staying with his parents. What? Oh, yeah,
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: they just love her.
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: She gets up.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: There and talks about how their son de-virginized her while
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: I'm fucking, you know, trying to make this marriage work
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: with this dick. Oh, wonder why I don't like the in-laws.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: That is awful. Think about it.
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: I promise you it's not. He married somebody.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Else, not me. I know, but how did you ever
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: hang out with the wife?
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: She came to a show, too. Heather. And loved it.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: No. She loved it, but she hated it. She was like,
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: you're funny. She was probably like, you're funny, but I
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: wish you weren't this funny. You think? Yes.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: Okay, well.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: Nobody is in love with their husband's ex-girlfriend.
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: But it was high school.
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: That's so long ago. He divorced that woman then?
- 1:06:09Speaker 7: He was married once, they divorced, and he married again
- 1:06:12Speaker 7: to this woman. And I actually don't know the status.
- 1:06:15Speaker 7: We kind of, I saw him when I just did
- 1:06:18Speaker 7: it in April.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: And we.
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: Did get in the hot tub together.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: With the wife or not?
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: She wasn't there.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: Oh, this is so great. I definitely don't think any wife.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Would be annoyed by a single, funny, stand-up special girl
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: in the hot tub with the guy that de-virginized her.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: And my in-laws love her. Now, did any of these
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: wives give him kids?
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: No kids.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: There aren't kids involved.
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: But she's pursuing her dreams, actually. She's doing very well.
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Are they still married?
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: I think so, yes. Yeah. I don't know where I
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: was going with this because you really had a hot take.
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: What a juicy scoop, Heather.
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: I just am saying, I think sometimes it's kind of
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: interesting because you have no intention of ever getting with
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: this boyfriend again. And the parents love you and you
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: love that. So like you're, you're, I'm just saying.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: His dad was like a dad to me growing up.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: But I'm just saying, I think this is sort of
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: an interesting perspective that women sometimes have to put themselves
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: in someone else's shoes. Because your intention was never to
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: break up any of his relationship. Because you were like, what?
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: It's the same feeling of when a girl is friends
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: with a guy. And she is like, he's just my friend.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: He's just my friend. He's just my friend. And then
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: when he does make a move, you're like, ah, excuse me.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: Look at you. Look at me. We're always going to
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: be just friends. Why are you such a... And you're like,
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: because I was nice to you for a year and
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: a half and bought your meals and took every phone call. Like... Like,
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: it's just kind of interesting to put yourselves in different
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: points of view. I hear that.
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: And yes, you're making me laugh.
- 1:08:05Speaker 7: But I will say that when we reconnected, the reason
- 1:08:09Speaker 7: I think I brought this up was because he was
- 1:08:11Speaker 7: we we hung out more than we normally would because
- 1:08:14Speaker 7: he has been in relationships. He did keep his distance
- 1:08:16Speaker 7: from me. But now that they're kind of apart right
- 1:08:19Speaker 7: now and whatever they're doing, we did spend a.
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: Little more time together.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: If something happens. Spoke.
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: I will text you if something happens.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: If something happens.
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: In bed, I'm going to send you a video.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: And then at your wedding, we share this clip.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: But I was going to say, he was emotional, too.
- 1:08:37Speaker 7: Like, we left each other that weekend and realized, like,
- 1:08:39Speaker 7: how important that relationship actually was.
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: It was very formative. I mean, a first is a lot.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: Do you go to your high school reunions?
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: It's this weekend, Heather.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: Are you going?
- 1:08:50Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Well, I would hope so because guess who's going to
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: be the fucking star? So what is this? What year
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: is this?
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: 28.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Okay, 20. That was such the best one for me. However,
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: I did have a bit of a bummer. What? Chelsea
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: Lately had only been out for six weeks.
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: And had you been on yet?
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: I was on it, yes. But only like a couple
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: people there. were fans and knew. Everybody else just was like, oh, hi,
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: how are you? Oh, this is your husband. Oh, you
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: have two kids, blah, blah, blah. Only one guy's wife
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: was like, I'm a huge fan. Like only one. And
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: I'm like, if the reunion was just, yes, even one
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: or two years later, it would have been a whole
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: different thing. But this next reunion, Was there a 25th
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: or what? I'm doing something else.
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: You're not going?
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: How come? I just feel like I just, I wanted,
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: there was, the weekend fell on a weekend that actually
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: I could get together with my sorority sisters instead. That
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: was the only weekend they could come out. And we're
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: going to my house in La Quinta. And like, that's
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: the only weekend that like my family doesn't want to
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: be there. And I just was, and I said to,
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: I said to God, I said, if this is the
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: only weekend they can come, then that, is you telling
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: me that's what I should do. And I shouldn't go
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: to this. And then I know you often refer to
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: Joe Rogan, but I did say, do you think Joe
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: Rogan goes to his high school reunions anymore? I don't
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: fucking think so. No, if it was a different weekend,
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: maybe I would stop by. But I also feel like
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: I've done it. And it's right here. Like I grew
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: up here. So I still see some of these people,
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: some of these people are parents. They kind of know
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: what you're up to. There's no big like.
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: Plus you can kind of know more than you've ever
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: known before about what people are up to.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Because, oh, well, Facebook and all that and Instagram from
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: 20 years ago, that's what ruined it. Like my tenure,
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: nobody knew what was up with anybody. And all I
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: wanted to do was talk to my one friend who
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: was married and living with her husband in Modesto. And
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: I had no way of getting a hold of her.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: And I wanted to talk to her because that is
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: this famous Lacey Peterson case. Do you know the Lacey
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Peterson case?
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: Yes, I do.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: She knew them. But back then, I didn't know how
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: to get a hold of her because it was pre-Instagram
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: and stuff.
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: You were getting the juicy scoop back then.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: I wanted to. I did get some after. She did
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: say they were the fighting couple and she'd see them
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: at the country club.
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: He was the police officer.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: No, that's a different Scott Peterson. This is the boat. Yes.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: Killed his pregnant wife, though there's always been speculation if
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: he didn't. But he had the massage therapist girlfriend named
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: Amber- Oh, God. And then while he was talking to her,
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: he was kind of the inspiration for the movie Gone Girl. Right, okay.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: With Bette Affleck.
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: I've seen it.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: So anyway, he's in San Quentin, but whatever.
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: So he did go to jail for that.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. And he's still trying to say, it wasn't me.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: I just am like, why?
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: I mean, obviously he has to be unwell, right? Because
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: my question is always like, just get a divorce. What
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: are you talking about killing somebody? That's when I'm like,
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: he has to be unwell.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: Basically his thing was like, The only defense could really
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: be this. My wife was pregnant with our child. I
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: then met this other woman and told her I wasn't
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: married and that I was a widow. But that, you know,
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: she had a little girl and I was acting like
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: I was the perfect boyfriend going to be the husband
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: to her, you know, the father to her kid. During
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: that time, I came home and my wife had taken
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: the dog for a walk and never returned. I was
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: worried about her. But you know what? I was kind
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: of happy since I didn't really want to stay married anymore.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: So I was like, this is not the worst thing
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: in the world. But I didn't kill her. I didn't
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: kill her. Not the worst thing in the world.
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: I didn't look for her.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: Meanwhile, I'm pursuing the other girl who doesn't have a TV.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: So she has no idea what's going on in the world.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: And until finally one of her friends is like, the
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: guy that's on the news is in your Christmas photo.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: Do you realize? Yes.
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: Is putting your daughter to bed right now.
- 1:13:13Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: And so then they tape the phone calls. And then
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: as he's at the vigil on New Year's Eve in
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Modesto for the missing wife who's pregnant with his child,
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: he calls her and he's like, oh, I'm in Paris
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: right now. The fireworks are going off. It's so beautiful.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: I can't wait for us to come here sometime. Yeah.
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: I can't believe this mess. He's unwell. That's the answer.
- 1:13:39Speaker 7: So anyway, he's unwell and he did it because if,
- 1:13:42Speaker 7: in my opinion, because I listen, I think, I think
- 1:13:45Speaker 7: you just say, I want to get out of this.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: It is such a juicy case. It's like one of
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: my favorite cases to like revisit because whenever somebody comes
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: up with like another theory, okay, there are some other
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: good theories out there. Like there were these two other
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: two or three other pregnant women that like went missing and,
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: And they were, I think they were Mexican. And so
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: it didn't get the press. But it was very close
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: to their neighborhood. And their street looked nice, but like
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: two blocks away, it wasn't nice.
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: Did they find her body?
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: Eventually they did find the body. Okay. Which went up
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: on shore like nine months later. And the baby was
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: in there.
- 1:14:23Speaker 7: Because part of me is like, okay, if it's pregnant women,
- 1:14:25Speaker 7: wouldn't that not be to get the babies?
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: Right. So they were like- So the theory is she
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: was kidnapped because they wanted the baby. Somebody wanted the
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: baby or it was a statistic. What's your last wish? Yeah.
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: Or like, we're right.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: Or like, we're going to, we're going to whatever sacrifice.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: I don't know. There could have been, we want to
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: get the baby and sell it or we want to
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: do something sacrificial, whatever. But did they, then something go
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: wrong and she died or whatever. And then they, they,
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: put it out there so it would look like he
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: did it they set it up or there was also
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: a robbery across the street that day and because she's
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: a little feisty thing like my friend said did she
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: go hey what the fuck are you guys doing seeing
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: the robbery happening and then they snatched her and smothered
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: her whatever and then didn't know what to do with
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: her and then set her up and threw her out
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: on the boat to make it look like it was
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: him as he went fishing by himself that day.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: He did go fishing that day?
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Yes. So they think he killed her that night. He
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: put her in the boat. He went fishing. He dumped
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: her in the boat, came home, and then was like, oh,
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: my God, where did my wife go? But then there
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: were people saying, I saw her walking that day. And
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: other people saying, well, there's other pregnant women walking around.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: Maybe it wasn't her.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: That's true. Wow, this is a lot.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know why I got so into it.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: It's my favorite. It's one of my favorite crimes. Dane
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: Cook got married.
- 1:15:58Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: Just didn't know how you feel about that, Charmer.
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: Longtime girlfriend.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: A loved of, yeah, he's 51, she's 24. They met
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: when she was 18. She just happened to just have
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: turned 18. Yeah. When she went to his game nights.
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: Mm-hmm. I don't think they were checking IDs at the door.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: Yeah. But they've been together and they got married in
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: a place that was very significant to them because they
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: spent so much time there in their relationship.
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: What was that place?
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: Just Hawaii or whatever. Oh, I don't know.
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: Not a playground or anything like that.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Hmm. And anyway. It's a huge age gap. I
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: had one exchange with him and he was kind of
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: a dick.
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: I don't think I've crossed paths.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: I was part of that.
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: I was at the exact age when- Who's having the
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: game nights?
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: And I wasn't invited.
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: No.
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: When his album came out in college, I forget if
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: it was Harmful or Swallowed, and it was huge.
- 1:16:53Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: And we were all listening to it.
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: So I will say, I'm having that memory in college.
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: I mean, I didn't look up to Dane Cook or
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: anything like that, but I thought that was very funny.
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: So that would have been another exposure to a stand-up comic,
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: because I wasn't really.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: There's things about Dane Cook that I think are really
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: interesting and cool. Like, I remember he was, like, the
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: first person that used social media to gain an audience
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: through MySpace and get people to come to shows. And
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: he also was like, I'm just going to rent out
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: this arena. And I'm just going to keep every ticket
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: and just see what happens. Like, he did some really
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: innovative things.
- 1:17:24Speaker 7: Well, we have business people in our line of work, too.
- 1:17:27Speaker 7: There's comedians and then there's, like, really great business people.
- 1:17:29Speaker 7: It's not always a crossover.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: Right, exactly. How are they coming up with it? And
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: so then... And then he, you know, they kind of
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: were trying to make him a movie star. It didn't happen.
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: Then he had the brother that stole all his money,
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: which I felt was really sad.
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: Yeah, whenever that happens.
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: And listen, there is a big age difference here. Whatever.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: Hopefully they are happy. 25 years. Yeah. And when he's
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: 70 and she's, whatever, 30, they're going.
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: To have a good time.
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: How many years is this?
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: 25.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: I guess it's not that many.
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: It's a significant gap. You know what it is? It
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: could be a dad gap. 25 is a lot.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: The age thing is always, and everybody can attest to
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: this when I say it, there can be great relationships
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: with this much of an age difference. It really can be.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: But what I have found with my friends that have
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: married someone significantly older, 51 is a lot different than 68.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: So like now in 17 years, she'll be in her mid,
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: early mid 40s. That is really young. That is, you know,
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: you're fit, you look good, you can do anything. And
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: now your spouse is a lot older. That's the only thing. Like,
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: I definitely, I don't, I think you can have a
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: fun connection at 24 and 51 I can't and I
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: think you could even for but I think that's where
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: it gets hard so if you're one of those women
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: and this is your choice like make the most of
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: it but and and have the best time but just
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: be aware that like Yeah. It can be difficult.
- 1:19:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:19:11Speaker 7: I'm not a marriage person in general because I can't,
- 1:19:14Speaker 7: I mean, I can't imagine like making a decision for
- 1:19:17Speaker 7: myself that would last potentially what is.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: Supposed to be a lifetime. Right. It's a lifetime.
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: Yeah. So how do I picture that if I don't know?
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: I mean, we can hope for the best. Who are
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: we to judge?
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: No, but I mean, this is a significant gap.
- 1:19:30Speaker 7: To me, like I've had male comics friends ask me,
- 1:19:33Speaker 7: I'm dating this, you know, they're 40 and they're like,
- 1:19:36Speaker 7: I'm dating this young girl, what do you think or something?
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: I'm like, how old is she?
- 1:19:39Speaker 8: 26.
- 1:19:39Speaker 7: I say, I think you're dating your emotional intelligence capacity.
- 1:19:44Speaker 7: I think you're 26 in the head.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: That's what I think. Also, I remember a comic saying
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: to me that, and I thought it was so funny.
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: And he was like, oh, you know, he's finally doing well,
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: but he's like my age. And he's like, and you know,
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: the car broker brings the car over, you know, and
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: the wife that he's been with for 25 years and
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: they have like a great marriage. was like, oh, cool, nice,
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: good for you, you know? And he's like, now, if
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: I had some, like, sugar baby 24-year-old and I'm like, hey, baby,
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: coming over to pick you up in the Ferrari or whatever,
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: she'd be, like, filming it like, this is what you
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: get when you date a daddy who can tell a
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: joke and be all excited about it. And so I'm like,
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: I get why sometimes guys want to date that girl.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: That's going to be like, and, and it means nothing
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: to him to buy her, you know, an, $ 1, 200 pair
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: of shoes. That's nothing. But she's like, I'm going to
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: wear these shoes and, you know, come over and screw
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: you and do a TikTok about it. And, you know,
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: this is my feminism. And that's fine. But I can
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: see why those relationships work because the guy is like,
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: I just want someone to fucking– I just want my
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: wife or girlfriend to be excited about what a fucking
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: stud I am. And the woman that I got with
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: since I was 25 who saw me struggle as a
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: feature and da-da-da-da and has seen me be a dick
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: sometimes– isn't going to be as excited about the fact
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: that I made it in this Ferrari.
- 1:21:13Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: About my car in general. Right, exactly. Yeah, I see
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: what you mean.
- 1:21:18Speaker 7: There is like a, yes, naivete and sort of lack
- 1:21:23Speaker 7: of access and means to get those things. So they're
- 1:21:25Speaker 7: going to be impressed and thankful and at least, I
- 1:21:29Speaker 7: don't know, but then there's plenty of girls who expect
- 1:21:31Speaker 7: these things.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: Right. I don't know.
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: I guess it depends on the person. But it is
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: a huge age gap.
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: I've only done nine years apart and that felt big.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: You were the younger or the older?
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: I've done both ways.
- 1:21:43Speaker 7: 26, I was dating a 34-year-old and it was a
- 1:21:46Speaker 7: massive age gap it felt at the time.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: That seems like nothing to me.
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:21:51Speaker 7: And then I dated a younger person who ultimately was
- 1:21:54Speaker 7: very loving relationship. I think we really loved each other,
- 1:21:57Speaker 7: but I just said we're in different places. And I
- 1:22:00Speaker 7: think he often had to sort of pretend to be
- 1:22:03Speaker 7: more mature or grounded than he was.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: Did you ever date someone that wasn't in the business
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: and you brought them to a show and you either
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: loved their reaction or you didn't love their reaction?
- 1:22:16Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:22:17Speaker 7: I feel like Nick, who's tattooed on my back, didn't
- 1:22:20Speaker 7: love being around comics who were always on.
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: Okay. Even though he's a very funny person. And this
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: is early days for me.
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:22:26Speaker 7: I wanted him to come around and have fun. And
- 1:22:28Speaker 7: I'm not the comic who always needs to be on.
- 1:22:30Speaker 7: But I wanted him to come and be funny himself
- 1:22:32Speaker 7: and enjoy it and add to the conversation, but I
- 1:22:36Speaker 7: think he was put off by what he interpreted as
- 1:22:41Speaker 7: one-upping each other.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: So yeah, that was disappointing.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: But what about when you've been on stage? Like, did
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: you ever have like a great set or not a
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: great set? And the reaction of your partner at the
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: time was either positive or good for you?
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: I can't think of anything like a strong reaction to that.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: Like an experience. I can think of several examples.
- 1:23:05Speaker 7: With different boyfriends where they're like, no, it wasn't as
- 1:23:07Speaker 7: bad as you think. Or like, come on, you thinking
- 1:23:10Speaker 7: you bombing.
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: Is not bombing.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:23:13Speaker 7: Like, come on, like sort of tough love me.
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: That's nice. Yeah. It was nice.
- 1:23:18Speaker 7: Yeah, it was kind of nice. I think I'd rather honesty,
- 1:23:20Speaker 7: but maybe that is his honesty. And I'm very hard
- 1:23:22Speaker 7: on myself.
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: I'm a perfectionist.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: Wait, I just remembered my Dane Cook story. Please. So
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: I went to do the Tom Green show. He had
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: like a talk show at the time.
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: Audeville? No, the Tom Green show.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: No, Tom Green. You know, like Drew Barrymore's ex-husband?
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, the Tom Green show.
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: And it was just to promote my special on Showtime.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: This is 2014. This is a long time ago. And
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: it was my first special. I only have two. Anyway,
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: that was being paid for, but I also made no
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: money off of it. So anyway, he was there. And
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: at the time, he was doing a Showtime special too,
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: but they moved mine up because he needed more time
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: to edit or whatever. So then mine was going to be...
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: So we were both promoting it there, doing two different
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: shows or whatever. And I go, oh, I, you know, whatever.
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: I took your spot. Now you've got, you took mine
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: in October, but I have a special too, you know,
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: coming out. And I just remember he goes, you have
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: a standup special on Showtime? And I go, yeah, August,
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: whatever it was. And he's like, God, they're just giving
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: them to everyone now.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: That's so rude.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: And he wasn't joking.
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: Well, of course he wasn't. Cause that's not funny. That's
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: so rude. See, this is also, it's sort of like.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: And I think I probably went, ha ha.
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: I think.
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, that's a terribly rude thing to say.
- 1:24:44Speaker 7: I mean, it reminds me of the time when I
- 1:24:47Speaker 7: was writing on Crashing, and they kept saying, like, do
- 1:24:49Speaker 7: you want to be in it? I'm... When I'm... A
- 1:24:52Speaker 7: writer on a show, I'm not the person constantly pushing
- 1:24:54Speaker 7: myself for a role. I think that's annoying. I think
- 1:24:57Speaker 7: when other people do it, it really bothers me. However,
- 1:24:59Speaker 7: I could probably take a page out of their book
- 1:25:01Speaker 7: and be like, maybe I would be good for this
- 1:25:03Speaker 7: and actually push myself.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: Well, I didn't.
- 1:25:05Speaker 7: And I was like happy to be a part of
- 1:25:07Speaker 7: it or something. But eventually I wrote on one and
- 1:25:09Speaker 7: two and then I left to do something else right
- 1:25:12Speaker 7: on I Love You America for Sarah. And end of
- 1:25:15Speaker 7: season two is coming. I haven't been in anything. And
- 1:25:17Speaker 7: they were like, we want to get you in something.
- 1:25:19Speaker 7: And then the finale of season two is the roast.
- 1:25:21Speaker 7: So I was like, and I hate roasts.
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: I'm not, it's not my vibe.
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: Me neither. Yeah.
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: So I said.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: It's like too mean.
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: I don't like it.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: It's too mean. And then you have, and then they
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: have to be mean to you.
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: No desire.
- 1:25:35Speaker 7: And they said, that's kind of what it came down to.
- 1:25:37Speaker 7: The only, it was like, truly we're down to the, to.
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: The wire here.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: Beth, do you want to be a judge in roast
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: battle in this episode? And I was like, fine.
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not going to, I wasn't mad, but
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: I was also like reluctant. Okay. I'm not good at that,
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: but okay. And also I'm not a famous person to
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: judge Rose Battle.
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:25:57Speaker 7: Well, I sit down and it was Artie Lang, who
- 1:26:00Speaker 7: was one of the stars of the show. Jeff Ross
- 1:26:02Speaker 7: and me. And Jeff is like, what are you doing here?
- 1:26:08Speaker 7: Similarly to Dane. He was like, or like, why are
- 1:26:11Speaker 7: you here? And I just said, they couldn't get Chelsea Handler.
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: And then I didn't really talk to him the rest
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: of the time. I'm like, what do you mean why
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: am I here? I don't want to be here either.
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: I think this whole thing that you do is stupid.
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: It's like weird and mean. And we roast the ones
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: we love. I'm like, no, you don't. You're thinking of.
- 1:26:32Speaker 7: Chaotic, terrible, cruel things to hurt someone so you can
- 1:26:35Speaker 7: see their reaction and see if they can bounce back
- 1:26:37Speaker 7: quick enough to say something cruel to you. I've watched
- 1:26:41Speaker 7: roasts that are just like, I.
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: Want to say– I was on the right side of
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: history when I was horrified at the roast of Pamela Anderson.
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: I don't even remember that one.
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: I remember, because now everybody is like, stand for Pamela Anderson.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: And then she, you know, but when I watched this
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: years ago and it was, she did it. And the
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: comments were all about what a slut she was, her vagina, everything.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: And I remember watching this and being like, she has
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: two sons. Like she's a mom. Like, this is awful.
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: How much did she have to, how much did she
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: get paid? Who would agree to do this?
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it's terrible.
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: It was like, and everything, whether it was Joan Rivers
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: or whatever, every woman that was being roasted and then
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: every joke about any woman on the panel always had
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: to do with their age, their sluttiness, and their circumference
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: of their giant vagina.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: Yeah. It's very unoriginal.
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: But then someone could go, yeah, and then everybody, women
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: got up there and talked about tiny penises, whatever. Two
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: things you can't really change. If you're born with a
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: tiny penis, there's not a lot you can do except
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: for plastic surgery. And if you're joined with.
- 1:27:45Speaker 4: A- And be really good at cunnilingus.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. So make the most of it.
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: Get really good at that skill.
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: And everybody will love you and continue to want to
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: see you. Get good with your mouth and hands if
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: you have a tiny dick.
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: Yeah, make the most of it.
- 1:28:01Speaker 7: But also I will say, of course, like for example,
- 1:28:02Speaker 7: Natasha Leggero's performance on, I think it was the Bieber.
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: Roast, is phenomenal. So good.
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: She's great.
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
- 1:28:08Speaker 7: So I'm not saying we don't love roasts or something
- 1:28:11Speaker 7: in the way that... And that seems unfair, right? Because
- 1:28:14Speaker 7: Bieber's a person too. But for whatever reason, those jokes
- 1:28:17Speaker 7: that she wrote, like this is why.
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: I'm not saying.
- 1:28:20Speaker 7: down with roast because sometimes they can obviously be very skillful.
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: But isn't that the key though?
- 1:28:25Speaker 7: That it is a famous person because you can kind
- 1:28:27Speaker 7: of pull these sort of bigger ideas, not like Heather's
- 1:28:33Speaker 7: mom killed herself after her dad, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: Like, it's like, what the fuck?
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: Why would you read?
- 1:28:40Speaker 7: The most traumatic event in my life and then say
- 1:28:42Speaker 7: into a microphone in front of, I'm not a famous person.
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: Like if it's like Ariana licked a donut, it's like, okay,
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: who cares?
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Not like, and when.
- 1:28:51Speaker 7: Your mom got AIDS and died and you were holding
- 1:28:53Speaker 7: her hand, she was like, I don't even love you.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: And everyone's like, how is this funny? To anybody.
- 1:29:01Speaker 7: I'm just baffled sometimes by the cruelty of those, and
- 1:29:04Speaker 7: that's what it was in that season, was no-name comics
- 1:29:10Speaker 7: roasting each other, because that's what Roast Battle is on
- 1:29:12Speaker 7: a Tuesday night at the Comedy Store.
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: Just fighting.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: I also think any time someone says, as you enter
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: a room or party or whatever, Beth, what are you
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: doing here? Like.
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: How did you get in?
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: How did you get invited to this party with these
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: people that shouldn't know who you are? It's the rudest
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: thing to say to anybody.
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: I was just stuck with me. I'm like, there's just
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: so many ways that you could not have said that.
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: Yeah. Hey, what's up?
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: Even just pretending you don't know who I am. That's
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: fun too. But I had met him plenty of times. Anywho.
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: Yeah, real.
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: I thought of something else, but I can't really.
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: Well, listen, girl.
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: Remember that.
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: Let's talk about How they can follow you, watch you,
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: where your dates are. Tell it all. October 3rd is
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: anytime after October 3rd. You can watch it on Netflix.
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: That's right.
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: It's called If You Didn't Want Me Then. And why
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: did you name it that?
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: It's one of the punchlines in the special.
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: Oh.
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: And I shot it in my hometown. I love it.
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: If You Didn't Want Me Then. I like it.
- 1:30:19Speaker 7: You can find my dates at BethStelling.com. And I'm on
- 1:30:23Speaker 7: all the social medias. And I am touring this fall,
- 1:30:27Speaker 7: so I could be in a city near you.
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: And I think that's it.
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:30:32Speaker 7: Now that the strike is lifted, I feel like I
- 1:30:34Speaker 7: could say the other things I do, but.
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: Oh, okay. Do you want to, do you hope to
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: get on a show? Now you said you want to
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: act or you only want to write or what?
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: I've been lucky enough to kind of bounce around and
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: do it all.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30:48Speaker 7: I wrote on Strange Planet, which is an Apple show
- 1:30:51Speaker 7: that's out right now and did a little voice on that.
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:30:54Speaker 7: And, well, I was on Rutherford Falls, which is a
- 1:30:56Speaker 7: great show. I was on Peacock, but it only has
- 1:30:58Speaker 7: two seasons and it's done.
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: Oh.
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: So I'd like to promote that. It shouldn't be cancer.
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: Let's bring it back. Put it on regular NBC.
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: Where do you see yourself in five years?
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: Dead. I don't know.
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: Do you have any big goal? I don't really. I
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: don't really. I know when people say that, I'm like,
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: I'm really happy if this is the best it gets.
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: I'm pretty happy. But you're younger than I am. So like,
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: do you have a goal? Not that I'm old, but like,
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: I just, you know.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Do you have it?
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: Like when I was younger, I always wanted to be
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: a mom in a sitcom. Okay. I don't want that anymore.
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: But like that was one of the things that I
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: would say, like I imagined myself doing at some point,
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: like getting an Emmy.
- 1:31:47Speaker 7: It is tough to say what you really want because
- 1:31:49Speaker 7: I think sometimes I'll tamp down those things because I
- 1:31:52Speaker 7: want to temper my expectations for myself.
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: No, that's the opposite of the secret and manifesting. You're
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: supposed to say, I want it, I'm going to get it,
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: and now I'm going to achieve it. You see it?
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: I want it. I got it. Where do I see
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: myself in five years?
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: See it, believe it, achieve it.
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: See it, believe it, achieve it.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's it.
- 1:32:15Speaker 7: I guess it's going to be cheesy, but I just
- 1:32:16Speaker 7: want to keep making good work. I like putting out
- 1:32:19Speaker 7: specials that are special, that I worked really hard on,
- 1:32:22Speaker 7: that people can enjoy.
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: So I want to do great work.
- 1:32:26Speaker 7: I've written shows before, so I guess I would like
- 1:32:28Speaker 7: to get one of the shows I've written made. It
- 1:32:30Speaker 7: would be fun to star in it. It's not exactly
- 1:32:32Speaker 7: the most important thing to me, but I think it
- 1:32:34Speaker 7: could be fun.
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: And I want to do this documentary called Stelling v. Porn.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: What's that about?
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: I'm just going to sue porn.
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: You're going to what?
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: I'm going to sue porn.
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: Why?
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: For damages to my suit and my relationships.
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: Wait, it would be like a mockumentary? Yeah. Oh, okay.
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: I think that would be fun.
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: I think that is a fun idea.
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: And I don't know. I got a little movie idea.
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: I just got to write it.
- 1:33:03Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: But I like how My career has been I like
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: writing on television. I love doing punch-up on movies. And
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: I get to tour as a stand-up.
- 1:33:11Speaker 7: I guess it would be fun to have my tours
- 1:33:14Speaker 7: be small theaters. I do like a smaller crowd. My
- 1:33:18Speaker 7: dream is in arenas, to be honest with you.
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: It's just not.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: It's not mine either. It's never going to happen.
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: But it's also not my dream. I've been lucky enough
- 1:33:24Speaker 4: to open for people in them, and that's a cool experience.
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: It is? You love it?
- 1:33:27Speaker 7: Yeah, I opened for Mulaney, I think it was last
- 1:33:29Speaker 7: May or something, whatever that was, and That's a really
- 1:33:32Speaker 7: cool experience.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:33:33Speaker 7: But I really like, I don't know, maybe it's because
- 1:33:35Speaker 7: I feel safer, but I like being in small crowds
- 1:33:37Speaker 7: amongst people.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: I don't even like high stages.
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: What about you? What are your dreams?
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: Well, it is nice to do shows in a theater.
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: Just because it's quieter and there's less going on and
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: there's less distractions. So as a performer, that is nice.
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: And it's one show.
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:55Speaker 4: I guess you could do two in one night.
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: Well, sometimes you do two, yeah. That's true. But, yeah,
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: I mean, I'm happy. I always love it. It's the
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: anticipation before, like, oh, my gosh, you know, a little
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: bit of stress. Is it sold out? But when I'm
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: actually doing it and leading up to, like, the couple
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: hours before, I get really excited in a good way,
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: and I feel very satisfied after.
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: And all of it, yeah, I love it. I'm grateful
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: that we get to do this.
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: Same.
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: Yeah. And then I'll be working on my charity, Billboards
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: for– Yeah.
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: Female comics.
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: Coming soon.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: Let me be first.
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:34:32Speaker 4: We need it soon. We need an angel investor for that.
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: Right. All right. Awesome. Well, thank you, Beth.
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: Thanks for having me.
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: Appreciate you. Bye. Bye. The car is beautiful. Where did
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: you end up going for it?
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: This exclusive place that Dada's Connections with. they have more
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: cars for more dealerships than like anywhere else.
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: You have to put me in touch what's it called.
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: It's dune adl where dune adl there's an accent on
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: the e do you mean yes i got it on
