- 0:00Speaker 1: Imagine Dragons, Thunder.
- 0:01Speaker 2: You might have a little thunder today with the rain.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Cloudy conditions, high 85. Flight FM is on. Cubby and Christine,
- 0:07Speaker 2: producer Kristen. Hey, we're starting the morning with kind of
- 0:10Speaker 2: some sad news here. American journalist, feminist, and activist. We're
- 0:13Speaker 2: hearing about the passing of Gloria Steinem just now.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Yes, at the age of 92. Yeah. And we only
- 0:21Speaker 3: know that she passed peacefully in her home in New
- 0:23Speaker 3: York City. No other details at the moment.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Wow. And we were just in the same room with
- 0:28Speaker 1: her when Kristen won her Gracie Award.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:33Speaker 1: We were they acknowledged her. Yeah.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:35Speaker 3: There was a special Gracie dedicated to honor her, her work,
- 0:42Speaker 3: along with her, her partner. I know who accepted the
- 0:45Speaker 3: award on stage, you know, but Gloria Steinem was sitting
- 0:50Speaker 3: in the audience.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, rest in peace, Gloria Steinem. More on this
- 0:53Speaker 2: coming up as we go throughout the day. I really,
- 0:56Speaker 2: if you don't mind, Christine, I want to revisit something
- 0:59Speaker 2: we talked about yesterday at this time. You are fighting for, well,
- 1:04Speaker 2: a lot of people in your neighborhood are fighting to
- 1:06Speaker 2: prevent a big warehouse that's going to be possibly developed near.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Where you live.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yes, right. Very residential area.
- 1:14Speaker 1: There was a big town meeting last night that you
- 1:16Speaker 1: were a part of. How did it go?
- 1:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:19Speaker 3: It was very long. A lot of people needed to
- 1:24Speaker 3: speak and they didn't get to yet. So there's a
- 1:27Speaker 3: public hearing, if you will, first, like the board meeting
- 1:30Speaker 3: has to approve these plans for a warehouse, but it's
- 1:34Speaker 3: a mystery warehouse. We don't know what it is. We
- 1:36Speaker 3: just know there's four loading docks with 18-wheeler trucks expected,
- 1:40Speaker 3: but we don't know what it is. And it is
- 1:42Speaker 3: right on, like literally on top of houses and Town homes.
- 1:47Speaker 3: There's going to be noise pollution.
- 1:48Speaker 1: There's going to be vibrations of the trucks going by.
- 1:52Speaker 3: The light, the air quality. There's, you know, trees that
- 1:56Speaker 3: have to come down. It's really, really going to impact
- 1:59Speaker 3: the quality of life for so many people who live
- 2:03Speaker 3: right in that area in Nutley. So there was a
- 2:05Speaker 3: huge turnout yesterday. You know, from what I understand, it's
- 2:09Speaker 3: like the client, the person... you know, the property to sell, right?
- 2:15Speaker 3: Because this property, it's like a, it's been sitting empty
- 2:17Speaker 3: for a couple of years. They can't reveal who their
- 2:22Speaker 3: tenant is, but they have their lawyers there. They have
- 2:25Speaker 3: their engineer. They, you know, we have to hear from
- 2:27Speaker 3: all those people first. And then you're allowed to ask
- 2:30Speaker 3: them questions. And so we never got to the portion
- 2:33Speaker 3: of the, you know, the public, like you'll get your chance.
- 2:36Speaker 3: You'll get your chance to speak. We didn't even get there.
- 2:38Speaker 3: It was 10 o'clock at night and it was.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Were people mad about that? Like, hey, come on, we
- 2:42Speaker 1: never got a chance.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Maybe just me. Because I was trying to respect the
- 2:48Speaker 3: rules and not talk until it was time. But a
- 2:52Speaker 3: lot of people, you know, they're very passionate about this
- 2:54Speaker 3: and they were using the time to pose questions that
- 2:57Speaker 3: also got their opinion in, which was fine with me.
- 2:59Speaker 3: These things needed to be said. No problem with that
- 3:02Speaker 3: at all. It's just we only got through, say, like
- 3:04Speaker 3: half of the agenda. So these meetings are going to continue.
- 3:08Speaker 3: We have to hear from more of The client and
- 3:11Speaker 3: then the public still has to have their say. And
- 3:13Speaker 3: I'm just wondering, it was such a huge turnout, right?
- 3:18Speaker 3: How much power does that hold? Like, you know, when
- 3:21Speaker 3: the public turns out for these public hearings, do we
- 3:24Speaker 3: even stand a chance?
- 3:25Speaker 1: I've always thought, are they rolling their eyes? Like, all right,
- 3:27Speaker 1: just say what you want to say. It's happening anyway.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:30Speaker 1: That's how I visualize it sometimes.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Or could you make a difference? And I think it's
- 3:34Speaker 1: paid off before.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And that's why people still do it.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I hope we can make a difference. I mean,
- 3:40Speaker 3: I feel like we were heard, we were seen, we
- 3:42Speaker 3: were recognized. You know, sometimes it's even out of the
- 3:47Speaker 3: hands of a board because they're working through these technicalities.
- 3:50Speaker 3: They're kind of, this is why we can still do this.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Don't you feel so adult now? I remember when I
- 3:56Speaker 2: was like 18 years old and I heard about people
- 3:58Speaker 2: doing this. I'm like, oh, I would never do all
- 4:00Speaker 2: that stuff.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Guess what?
- 4:02Speaker 1: I'd rather go to the bar. Now you're like, that's
- 4:04Speaker 1: your focus right now. Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, if you own a home. It's going
- 4:07Speaker 3: to impact you.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Not what you expected. The reason you chose this area
- 4:11Speaker 3: is beautiful, quiet residential area. And this is moving in
- 4:15Speaker 3: because of some zoning laws from. 200 years ago, you know, it's, it's, yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 3: it's impactful.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Keep the fight going, girl.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Thank you, Cubby.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I will.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I've got to sleep too.
- 4:26Speaker 1: So yeah, you're only like two hours of sleep, right?
- 4:29Speaker 3: But I'll go as much as I can go.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Madonna and more variety from the eighties through today, along
- 4:34Speaker 2: with two pretty cool things coming up next.
