- 0:00We inherited a two-party system, but we do not have to pass it on.
- 0:06When we talk about legacy, we talk about money, we talk about houses, we
- 0:09talk about the family business, but there's something else that we have all
- 0:12inherited, and we're about to hand it on to our kids, and it's a two-party
- 0:16system that does not represent us.
- 0:19We don't have to pass that on.
- 0:20Legacy is more than money, and most of us think about legacy as what's in the will.
- 0:26But what we pass on is also the world that our kids inherit.
- 0:30That includes the systems, the choices we make, the votes, how we vote, who we
- 0:35vote for, and this is collective legacy.
- 0:38And we've inherited a two-party system that has held our government hostage.
- 0:43And as a result, candidates that get captured by private interests, and
- 0:47they end up voting for what's good for the corporations that bought their
- 0:51votes, not for the public interest.
- 0:53This is not a Republican Party problem or Democrat Party problem.
- 0:56It is the same problem.
- 0:58They may represent different corporate interests, but the fact
- 1:01is, is that they represent corporate interests, not the interests of the
- 1:05people, not the interests of us.
- 1:07And so we get the same results, corruption and a lack of real representation, and
- 1:12as a result of it, we're getting harmed.
- 1:14And many of us know it, but we don't know what to do about it.
- 1:17And so here's what we could do instead.
- 1:20What we could do is pass on a system where we elect independent American
- 1:25citizens who are corruption-free, who are willing to sign a certification
- 1:29that says, "I am corruption-free.
- 1:31I hold myself to these standards, and I'm willing to be monitored." People
- 1:34who represent their constituents, period, not private interests.
- 1:38It's not about the D or the R or even the I next to their name.
- 1:42You could have a D next to your name or an R next to your name and
- 1:45be an independent American citizen, not held hostage by the party.
- 1:51You could stand for the people.
- 1:53You could be corruption-free and commit to real representation,
- 1:56and that is what we want.
- 1:57And we're at this very important moment in time because it would take just a
- 2:02handful of independent candidates winning, two in the House, two in the Senate,
- 2:07to create what is called a fulcrum caucus, where neither party, Democrat
- 2:12or Republican, would hold a majority.
- 2:15And in that small group of independent candidates that become a fulcrum
- 2:18caucus, would need both sides to turn to them to get anything passed.
- 2:23And this is kind of this four-minute mile moment, right?
- 2:25So if you've heard of Roger Bannister, before he ran the four-minute mile,
- 2:30everybody said it's impossible.
- 2:31It's not physically possible to run a four-minute mile.
- 2:34And then he did.
- 2:35And as soon as he did, others did, too.
- 2:38And once it happened, it happened again and again and again and again.
- 2:40And that's why this is such a critical moment of change, because we actually have
- 2:44some really great independent candidates that are running for these midterm
- 2:48elections that if they get elected, show us, oh, we can vote our conscience.
- 2:54We don't have to vote based on what we inherited.
- 2:57We can actually elect independent American citizens outside of the
- 3:02two-party system, and then once it happens, it happens again and again and
- 3:06again, and now we've created this ripple effect that ripples for generations.
- 3:10And the votes that we cast in these midterm elections will impact in great
- 3:15ways because soon Gen Z and millennials are going to be the voting majority.
- 3:21And very often they don't think of themselves as Republicans or Democrats.
- 3:25So until then, I want you to vote as if you're voting for their best
- 3:29interest, for the long term, not just the short term, so that we can have a
- 3:33revolution right now without violence, with the gift that was given to us by
- 3:39the Founding Fathers, the ability to have regime change without violence.
- 3:44That's the opportunity that we are standing in right now, and it might be
- 3:48that you are in a state where there's not an independent that's running.
- 3:52You might be looking at an election where there's not an independent that's running.
- 3:56But you can still help in the places where there are independents running that
- 4:00have a great chance of getting elected.
- 4:03So I'm gonna put some ways that you can support in the show notes.
- 4:06And consider, what does your vote mean during this election?
- 4:10It's not about is your vote a spoiler vote.
- 4:13It's about does your vote show us collectively that we can make the change
- 4:19that we want to see in the world with the way that we vote, not based on
- 4:23the belief that it must be part of the two-party system or we lose our vote.
- 4:30Every election is a chance to change what we pass on, and right now,
- 4:35that's the midterms on November 3rd.
- 4:37We're calling it Independence Day, so look up whether there's an
- 4:41independent candidate on your ballot.
- 4:42Share this with someone who feels as if they don't have real representation,
- 4:46that they don't have a voice, that stand for corruption-free government, and
- 4:50know that it's not about the D, it's not about the R, it's not even about the I.
- 4:54It's about whether the candidate that you're going to vote for is
- 4:57committed to being corruption-free and representing their constituents, and
- 5:01recognizing that we have power as the people, but only if we take that power.
- 5:07And this is the moment.
- 5:08This is the great wealth transfer
- 5:12This is not even about left or right.
- 5:15This is about better government, better governance, transparent, accountable,
- 5:19and participatory government.
- 5:20And so I would also say look at whether your candidate is running on those
- 5:24values of transparent, accountable, and participatory government and
- 5:28better governance systems, because that's what we need right now.
- 5:32We need to get out of the polarization of the left-right dichotomy that the existing
- 5:37system really uses as, like, better governance systems that are transparent,
- 5:43accountable, and participatory.
- 5:44So look at whether your candidates are running on a left-right polarization
- 5:49or on how do we come together to create better governance for and by the people.
- 5:54That's really what we want to be looking at together instead of getting
- 5:57stuck in this left-right binary.
- 6:00Because when you have political officials or governmental officials
- 6:04that are looking out for the people, they're going to vote based on what
- 6:07their constituents want, not based on what the corporate interests want.
- 6:13We can't see that what we all want, what many of us want, is the higher
- 6:18third thing, better governmental systems that are for the benefit of the public
- 6:23interest and not the private interests.
- 6:26So whether you're voting D, R, or I, it doesn't matter.
- 6:30What we're looking for is the people that want better government, transparent,
- 6:35accountable, participatory systems, and that's what you want to be looking for.
