- 0:31What's going on, everybody?
- 0:32Welcome to Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 0:36What's going on?
- 0:40My name is Josh Weitzer.
- 0:41She's Jamie Latimer.
- 0:42She's Carolyn Pivo.
- 0:44We're all here.
- 0:45It's the weekend.
- 0:47I've been driving like every weekend.
- 0:49I am so done driving.
- 0:52Next weekend, I'm not going anywhere.
- 0:54And then I go to the games
- 0:55like a couple weeks, days after that.
- 0:58But I need to like park the
- 1:01car for a little bit.
- 1:02Are you driving to the games?
- 1:04No.
- 1:04Okay.
- 1:05Okay.
- 1:06If you remember,
- 1:07the only reason I'm going
- 1:07is because I got a round trip for $200.
- 1:09Yep, that's right.
- 1:11And I couldn't pass up the deal.
- 1:15So Bruce and Kenneth are already here.
- 1:18What's up, guys?
- 1:21Make sure that you like and
- 1:22subscribe to the channel.
- 1:24Hit that notifier.
- 1:26We've got so much happening this week.
- 1:28If you have not hit that
- 1:29little bell to know what's going on,
- 1:31you're going to miss a ton.
- 1:34A ton.
- 1:36So, uh,
- 1:38Kenneth says a rare hair down Prevo
- 1:40night.
- 1:42It's cause I showered and
- 1:43then it's just air dried.
- 1:48Um,
- 1:50so have you guys watched the opening
- 1:51ceremonies Olympics this weekend at all?
- 1:55No.
- 1:56Oh yeah.
- 1:56I've watched like, I mean,
- 1:58everything that I could, um,
- 1:59not the 3 0 AM ones normally, probably,
- 2:02probably this week when we
- 2:03head to the gym.
- 2:05Cause we normally are up at
- 2:06three 45 Lex and I,
- 2:08so we'll be catching some
- 2:09of the very early ones.
- 2:12But yeah, we watched opening ceremonies.
- 2:14We watched, what did we watch today?
- 2:17Men's basketball.
- 2:18I watched some soccer, the horse.
- 2:23Yeah.
- 2:23A little bit of everything.
- 2:24The, the, the kayak crazy.
- 2:28I love the launch at the
- 2:29kayak where you like,
- 2:32they drop you off of a ledge and,
- 2:35Yeah.
- 2:35And how they,
- 2:37they have to turn back and
- 2:38not hit any of the posts or
- 2:39like those little floating thingies.
- 2:42Yeah.
- 2:43It's just cool to watch
- 2:44different sports that you
- 2:45don't get to watch throughout the year.
- 2:48Essentially some,
- 2:49most of these sports I only
- 2:50get to watch every four years.
- 2:51Yeah.
- 2:52You can tell it's it's a
- 2:55sports we don't normally watch.
- 2:56Cause you're like, you know,
- 2:57when you go around the
- 2:57thingy and you drop off the
- 3:00ledge and then, you know, you got to back,
- 3:02you know,
- 3:02we don't even use any of the
- 3:03correct terms.
- 3:06but I watched I watched
- 3:07rugby today I watched um
- 3:10swimming of course I
- 3:12watched some gymnastics
- 3:15simone boz is just a cyborg
- 3:18like that is just not even
- 3:19fair that how fast she
- 3:23flips is insane is it fault
- 3:26what was going on so they
- 3:28were they were doing
- 3:29everything today to qualify
- 3:30for team finals okay
- 3:33but she did the vault and flipped so fast.
- 3:38I was just in awe.
- 3:39And then I, I missed her floor routine,
- 3:41but when I heard that was just insane.
- 3:45It's just,
- 3:45it's the height that she gets to,
- 3:47and she comes from such a
- 3:48small body and she just is
- 3:50able to generate so much power, um,
- 3:52in her tumbling.
- 3:53It's, it's crazy.
- 3:55I watched the men.
- 3:55I think the men were yesterday.
- 3:57Um,
- 3:58That was very cool to watch as well.
- 4:01Yeah.
- 4:01I mean, everything's just,
- 4:02you're just looking at the
- 4:03best of every sport.
- 4:04It's, it's my favorite time of the year.
- 4:06I love watching the Olympics
- 4:07because I love watching sports.
- 4:10Yeah.
- 4:10So what I've, you know,
- 4:11I'm a big swimming fan, right?
- 4:13I'm watching as much as I
- 4:14can of the swimming,
- 4:17but I'm finding myself
- 4:18almost rooting against
- 4:19China more than for the U S
- 4:22because of that drug thing.
- 4:24Yeah.
- 4:2528 people popped for,
- 4:26for performance dancing drugs.
- 4:28I, I don't,
- 4:29it's almost like I don't care
- 4:30if the U S wins.
- 4:31I just don't want China to podium.
- 4:33I just don't get how they're
- 4:34allowed to compete.
- 4:37It makes no sense to me.
- 4:39What did they say?
- 4:39It was all like tainted meat
- 4:41and they were... They said
- 4:43they all went out to dinner together.
- 4:44And... Really?
- 4:49Like we've heard all the excuses.
- 4:54Right.
- 4:54And that just break down the
- 4:56fairway of excuses.
- 4:57Yeah,
- 4:58and we have plenty of excuses in our
- 5:00sport.
- 5:00Yeah.
- 5:01We've heard them all.
- 5:02Right.
- 5:03So I just...
- 5:05So anyway,
- 5:06I was happy that we're doing okay,
- 5:09but I'm just glad China is
- 5:11not doing okay.
- 5:13Yeah.
- 5:14I was sad for Team Canada's soccer team.
- 5:17I don't know if you saw that.
- 5:18There's like a drone gate.
- 5:22The military tech of women's soccer?
- 5:24Essentially, Jamie,
- 5:25if you're not up to date,
- 5:27the Canadian women's soccer team,
- 5:30their staff flew a drone over Canada
- 5:34New Zealand,
- 5:34I think it was their soccer
- 5:36teams closed practice and
- 5:37you're not allowed to film anything.
- 5:41Yeah.
- 5:42I had read that one of the,
- 5:43the guy flying the drone
- 5:44was getting like eight
- 5:45months to like in prison or
- 5:47something because it's like
- 5:48illegal to film things that
- 5:49are closed also in their country.
- 5:52But the head coach got a
- 5:54year suspension and two of
- 5:55the assistant coach are also gone for the,
- 5:57for the whole competition.
- 6:00And they deducted six points
- 6:02from Team Canada.
- 6:04So right now,
- 6:05there's only three games in the pool play,
- 6:08and each game is worth three points.
- 6:10Canada's the defending
- 6:12Olympic champions as well.
- 6:14And so now they have zero points.
- 6:16They just beat France today.
- 6:18They've won both games,
- 6:20but it still might not even
- 6:22be enough to move on
- 6:23because they some six full points.
- 6:25So now they're at zero.
- 6:27So they essentially need to
- 6:29win the next game.
- 6:30And then they might need
- 6:31like someone else to tie as well.
- 6:33Or I think they should be good.
- 6:34Maybe if they win the next game,
- 6:35but I was just so invested
- 6:39for the girls today because I mean,
- 6:41they train all four years
- 6:42and it's not like,
- 6:43the players fault like
- 6:45they're like they're
- 6:45getting punished in my
- 6:47opinion for not knowing
- 6:49what was going on like they
- 6:50were apparently not in the
- 6:53know that that happened so
- 6:57it just it sucks so just to
- 6:58see the girls win today I
- 7:00was like just super pumped
- 7:02yeah and I agree with you
- 7:04if the if they did not know
- 7:06and they did not take part
- 7:07in it they're being
- 7:08punished way too severely for this
- 7:14But yeah, it was,
- 7:18everybody's coming out of
- 7:19the woodwork now saying
- 7:20that they feel like it's
- 7:21been done to them as well.
- 7:24Like it's been going on for years.
- 7:28So,
- 7:28and I think Andrew Sten said something
- 7:30about that as well.
- 7:31And he's a huge soccer guy.
- 7:33Yeah.
- 7:34Yeah, but I mean,
- 7:37unless you know what's been
- 7:38happening in all the other
- 7:40teams and everyone's kind
- 7:41of on the same playing field,
- 7:43if it really is just a Canada thing,
- 7:44then do they have a
- 7:45competitive – even if the
- 7:46girls didn't know about it,
- 7:48do they have a competitive
- 7:48advantage from the coaching
- 7:51knowledge that was passed down?
- 7:52I mean – Yeah.
- 7:57It's the whole New England
- 7:57Patriots thing all over again.
- 8:00Like Bill Belichick, Spygate, Deflategate,
- 8:04whatever.
- 8:06Did the players get a
- 8:07competitive advantage or not?
- 8:08Right.
- 8:10It's an extremely harsh
- 8:12penalty that was handed out.
- 8:15But, I mean,
- 8:16it's just going to prevent
- 8:17other teams to do it, right?
- 8:19Like you want a harsh
- 8:20penalty because if the
- 8:21penalty is not harsh enough,
- 8:23then you have this
- 8:26continuing to happen and
- 8:27people will just lose their
- 8:28coaches and it's all good.
- 8:29Yeah.
- 8:31I just felt like six points is a lot,
- 8:33but it is what it is.
- 8:35And they can only do what they can do now.
- 8:37So they're playing basically
- 8:38without coaches and they've
- 8:40won two games.
- 8:41So it's exciting.
- 8:43Yeah.
- 8:44Yeah.
- 8:45Bruce is bringing up the Astros.
- 8:46Did it stealing signals?
- 8:47One, one, a world series.
- 8:49Like it happens in sports all the time.
- 8:50And I think the penalty does
- 8:53have to be severe or it's
- 8:53just going to continue to happen.
- 8:57I typed this in right before
- 8:58we went on the air.
- 8:59I was looking at the metal count,
- 9:02and it puts all the silver, the gold,
- 9:04the bronze, and the total at the end,
- 9:08but it's in order of gold.
- 9:10When you think of metal count,
- 9:13do you think all the metals?
- 9:16Is that good enough,
- 9:17or do you think gold only?
- 9:20I think total metals, personally.
- 9:22I mean, podium's podium.
- 9:24Same here.
- 9:25I like looking at the total,
- 9:26but I also like looking at
- 9:27the countries just
- 9:28dominating in gold medals.
- 9:31But I normally try to look at the total.
- 9:36Of course, everybody does that.
- 9:37They want to compete against
- 9:38the other countries.
- 9:39But it's kind of unfair
- 9:40because basketball gets one medal count,
- 9:45yet you have a team of men
- 9:47that have done this.
- 9:49And then the 100 butterfly
- 9:52gets a medal count.
- 9:55Right.
- 9:55So it's kind of
- 9:56disproportionate because for years,
- 9:58like when we send our best
- 10:00basketball players, nobody touched us.
- 10:02Right.
- 10:03Right.
- 10:03But you only get one gold medal for that.
- 10:07So it kind of goes down the
- 10:11line of some other things
- 10:12we're going to talk about tonight.
- 10:16So Jeffrey Birchfield says total medals,
- 10:19Bruce Wayne, total medals.
- 10:21It's a team sport.
- 10:24Yeah.
- 10:26Before we dive into all the news that is,
- 10:28uh, masters interviews.
- 10:33I put out a post last night.
- 10:35Wow.
- 10:36The response, um, that, uh,
- 10:39calling all legends,
- 10:40which legends is running
- 10:42the masters competition.
- 10:43Uh, if you are a masters games athlete,
- 10:47I'm trying to profile as
- 10:48many as I can before the
- 10:50masters CrossFit games.
- 10:52I got a,
- 10:52an overwhelming response and there
- 10:55are still some in my inbox
- 10:57that I haven't even been
- 10:58able to touch yet.
- 11:00Um,
- 11:00So if you're in that inbox,
- 11:02please be patient.
- 11:04I will get to you.
- 11:05It just takes a lot of back
- 11:07and forth to schedule and
- 11:09to make a thumbnail,
- 11:11to be able to put it into
- 11:12StreamYard and all that stuff.
- 11:14But we are really booked up for this week.
- 11:19I think I can show
- 11:20StreamYard real quick and
- 11:24just show you kind of what
- 11:26we have on deck here.
- 11:29Because it is insane.
- 11:33Here we go.
- 11:34So I will try to blow this up.
- 11:36So we have Denise Moore and
- 11:39Cindy Hinkle doing it together.
- 11:41Carleen Matthews, Brett Owsley,
- 11:45Brandon Fontenot, Julie Schaefer,
- 11:47Kelly Friel, Laura Redman,
- 11:50and Haley Queller.
- 11:55Yeah.
- 11:57And there are still,
- 11:58we've done two already.
- 12:00There are at least 10 in my
- 12:03inbox that I'm trying to schedule.
- 12:06So yeah, it's, it's stacked up.
- 12:10but if you missed the first two we did, uh,
- 12:13with, uh,
- 12:16Alison and Alison stall and Ryan Redkey,
- 12:20they were awesome.
- 12:21Uh, Alison is eight months postpartum.
- 12:24She competed in semis last year, pregnant.
- 12:27Uh,
- 12:27it was fun to kind of see how that has
- 12:30affected her in her
- 12:31training and the battle
- 12:32she's going through because of that.
- 12:35Um, and then, uh,
- 12:38with ryan retke who won fear
- 12:42factor back in 2003 uh when
- 12:45he had a full head of hair
- 12:47he is now bald um and his
- 12:50kids call the fear factor
- 12:51days his when dad had hair
- 12:54um and it was it was funny
- 12:56because I said yeah joe
- 12:57rogan did too um and he was
- 13:00not as popular back then as he is today
- 13:03I watched the full episode that he was on.
- 13:05It was crazy what he went
- 13:07through to win that.
- 13:08Um, but yeah,
- 13:10and we talk about it pretty
- 13:11in depth on the episode,
- 13:13but those are the cool
- 13:14backstories that you get, uh,
- 13:16when you're interviewing
- 13:17the masters athletes who
- 13:18have a ton of life experience.
- 13:20Uh,
- 13:21many of them are working full-time jobs
- 13:23as they're doing this thing,
- 13:24just like the two ladies on
- 13:26my show with me tonight,
- 13:28working full-time jobs and
- 13:29trying to pull this off.
- 13:31So, uh,
- 13:34With that,
- 13:35do we want to get into what Dave
- 13:36had to say this week?
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:41I need to hold on.
- 13:50Okay.
- 13:51So he, in his weekend review,
- 13:54I believe said that the
- 13:57number on the happy star
- 13:59was not the weight of the happy star.
- 14:03So we wanted to clarify that.
- 14:05Do we believe them?
- 14:08Yeah.
- 14:09Yeah.
- 14:09Yeah.
- 14:11I just think it's odd that
- 14:12it would be written like that,
- 14:13unless that's the max that it can take.
- 14:15I don't know.
- 14:17It's weird.
- 14:18Yeah.
- 14:20Yeah.
- 14:22I don't know.
- 14:24And if it's not, if it's not taught,
- 14:29like it's easier to lift, right?
- 14:31Like,
- 14:32So it depends on how not taught it is.
- 14:36Like we have one that's like
- 14:3860% full and I feel like
- 14:40it's the hardest one to lift.
- 14:41It's so floppy.
- 14:45Yeah, I agree.
- 14:46When they're like, when they're more full,
- 14:47they're almost easier.
- 14:48They just kind of just grab them.
- 14:51They're just kind of like,
- 14:54like it's super hard to
- 14:55touch and go cleans with
- 14:56the sandbags when they're not, um, full.
- 15:06I have only done a handful
- 15:08of sandbags that didn't have a handle.
- 15:12And when they're taught,
- 15:13I find getting your hand under is harder.
- 15:16Like getting under it to start.
- 15:19But I see what you mean.
- 15:21It's just too floppy.
- 15:23If it was just like bear hug carries, yeah,
- 15:27you might want it a little empty.
- 15:28Although with this being the
- 15:29star and basically having...
- 15:31areas to put your arm um I
- 15:34think it I think it's fine
- 15:36you're gonna want a pretty
- 15:36full the starts like to me
- 15:38would be easier for the
- 15:39carry but maybe that'll
- 15:43allow more speed if they're
- 15:44running with it so it's not
- 15:48like as easy to fold over
- 15:49or something or thumb fall
- 15:51might just be easier
- 15:54In addition,
- 15:55Dave has finished all 79 interviews.
- 15:58Plus, he interviewed Matt O'Keefe,
- 16:00which we'll get into in a second.
- 16:03His last one was Danielle.
- 16:04I know the barbell spin put out a poll.
- 16:08Many people said it would be Danielle.
- 16:10In fact, it was Danielle.
- 16:13And she got a full hour.
- 16:15Yeah.
- 16:18Did you guys watch?
- 16:20I did watch it.
- 16:22Yeah, I watched it.
- 16:24thoughts?
- 16:29I actually thought it was a
- 16:31good interview.
- 16:32I liked when she talked
- 16:35about her behavior at the 21 games.
- 16:40It's very introspective.
- 16:42I haven't seen her really
- 16:45touch on that in anything else she's done,
- 16:48even that
- 16:49rad tapes that they did um
- 16:52which you would have
- 16:52thought maybe she would
- 16:53have gotten more into that
- 16:54there um yeah I i liked it
- 16:58it was a little bit of a
- 16:59different side of her for
- 17:00parts of it yeah I like
- 17:03that they went through the
- 17:03whole history of her
- 17:06crossfit games experience
- 17:07and just where she began
- 17:09her time with the demo team
- 17:11um the book that he gave
- 17:13her um we saw him post that on the story
- 17:17And I agree with you.
- 17:18I like this when she talked
- 17:19about the 2021 games and
- 17:20just that experience,
- 17:21because that was obviously
- 17:23a very difficult time for her,
- 17:25but it also like boosted
- 17:28her following so much that year.
- 17:31I mean,
- 17:32it was already really high and then
- 17:33that just took it over even more.
- 17:36So while there may have been
- 17:38negative that she felt from that,
- 17:40there was a lot of positive,
- 17:41I think that she could take
- 17:42away from that experience.
- 17:45Yeah.
- 17:46Jay Burch asked the flipping off incident.
- 17:48It was actually more than that.
- 17:49Yeah, it was more than that, Jeff.
- 17:51She, she talked a lot about like,
- 17:54she's like, I was like a brat.
- 17:55Like I, you know, she didn't necessarily,
- 17:58she was embarrassed of her behavior.
- 17:59She just learned more about
- 18:01herself and she could have
- 18:03handled everything, the whole,
- 18:05the entire games process just better.
- 18:08You'll have to give it a watch.
- 18:09It's, it's good.
- 18:11She called it all a learning experience.
- 18:13That she could have used
- 18:15that energy in a different
- 18:16way to help her perform as
- 18:20opposed to hurt her.
- 18:23And I do think in her documentary,
- 18:26she was a little
- 18:26introspective at times
- 18:29during that documentary.
- 18:31And so I have noticed her
- 18:34being a little more
- 18:35introspective this year.
- 18:39One,
- 18:39she's not out there in the media all
- 18:41the time this year.
- 18:42She's pretty much stayed to herself.
- 18:47But yeah,
- 18:48Bruce said probably her best
- 18:50interview to date.
- 18:51I agree.
- 18:51Yeah, I would agree.
- 18:55And I do think Dave got
- 18:56better as he went along.
- 18:58I think Dave got to be a
- 18:59better interviewer as he went along.
- 19:02Like if you compare Brooke
- 19:04at the start to Danielle
- 19:05and both being his favorite athletes,
- 19:07if I were to say it, like I,
- 19:09it was a little bit cringy
- 19:10with Brooke and I did not
- 19:11feel that way really with Danielle.
- 19:13Right.
- 19:14I thought it got better throughout.
- 19:15And like you said, um,
- 19:18he was able to get deeper,
- 19:19especially in the later
- 19:20ones that were getting a
- 19:21little bit longer.
- 19:21Like it started off around
- 19:22the 10 to 15 and then a lot
- 19:24more of them were beginning
- 19:25to be closer to the 20 minute.
- 19:26And obviously we got Pat
- 19:28with the 30 minute one.
- 19:29Um,
- 19:30But yeah, I like those interviews a lot.
- 19:32Learned a lot about the
- 19:33athletes and I'm excited to
- 19:34watch them in less than two weeks.
- 19:38It's coming up.
- 19:40Vice says it did feel a
- 19:41little weird that some
- 19:41athletes got 11 and she got an hour.
- 19:45I can say just from an
- 19:46interviewer's perspective,
- 19:47there are some athletes
- 19:49that give you so much more.
- 19:51Like interviewing Ryan Redkey,
- 19:54I could have gone on for
- 19:55three hours because when
- 19:57you ask him a question,
- 19:58he gives you details about
- 20:00the story that you don't have to like,
- 20:03you don't have to pull out of him.
- 20:05Right.
- 20:05He just does.
- 20:06When I, when I talked to Ariel, it just,
- 20:10it just flows because she's
- 20:12naturally a person who just
- 20:15likes to talk.
- 20:16Right.
- 20:17Um,
- 20:18And so you have some
- 20:19interviews that it just
- 20:20goes a lot easier.
- 20:22Well,
- 20:23it doesn't surprise me that the last
- 20:25couple were longer.
- 20:25He's essentially done and he
- 20:27cares less about the time.
- 20:29Imagine if you had started
- 20:30at 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
- 20:32That would have felt overwhelming.
- 20:38Yeah.
- 20:39If I'm doing seven in a day,
- 20:41they're going to all be short.
- 20:44When that was the last one
- 20:45or only one on that day and
- 20:46he doesn't have any more scheduled, sure.
- 20:50Great point, Bruce.
- 20:51Fee as well.
- 20:51Fee is someone that when I
- 20:53sit down and talk to, it just goes.
- 20:56And we don't even talk about
- 20:57anything in the sport most of the time.
- 21:00You have some of those
- 21:01people that that's just natural.
- 21:03And I'll say when we've had Danielle on,
- 21:05she has been very open and
- 21:07transparent during our talks.
- 21:09And that's probably why
- 21:11they're the highest rated
- 21:12shows we have on this channel.
- 21:14Because every time she's on,
- 21:15it just explodes.
- 21:17But, yeah.
- 21:25Again, Vi,
- 21:26it's not about who's been here
- 21:27the longest.
- 21:29There's just some people
- 21:30that you naturally have conversation with,
- 21:32and the conversation just flows, right?
- 21:36My favorite interviewer was still Pat.
- 21:39I thought he pushed back
- 21:40more than any other athlete
- 21:41in terms of his opinion on
- 21:43stuff and just the
- 21:44experience that he has.
- 21:45I thought that it was hard
- 21:48to even tell who was
- 21:49interviewing who between
- 21:50those two because it was good.
- 21:51That was my favorite.
- 21:54And I love Pat.
- 21:56That's a perfect segue, Carolyn.
- 21:58Chris Alford asks,
- 21:59did you see Dave on Savant's podcast?
- 22:02I went through it at two
- 22:03speed today because I went
- 22:06to celebrate my daughter's
- 22:07birthday with her this
- 22:07weekend and tried to catch
- 22:09up on everything.
- 22:11Yes,
- 22:11they talked about the Pat interview
- 22:13during that conversation
- 22:16and Dave was kind of
- 22:18defensive about some of the
- 22:20comments Pat made about that
- 22:25Because Pat then came on Savant,
- 22:27said some things,
- 22:28and then Dave responded to
- 22:29the follow-up of Pat,
- 22:31which was that if you're
- 22:34not watching other events
- 22:37and you don't know the
- 22:37names of the athletes,
- 22:38do you care about the sport?
- 22:40And Dave was very adamant
- 22:41that nobody cares about the
- 22:42sport more than he does.
- 22:45He's like, it was on my ranch.
- 22:47It started there.
- 22:48I've built this thing.
- 22:49Nobody cares about it as much as I do.
- 22:54I still think...
- 22:56That he can learn a lot from
- 22:59other competitions to not
- 23:01make the same mistake.
- 23:03But that's why I think a lot
- 23:05of input from his team is
- 23:07crucial because I'm sure
- 23:08they watch other competitions,
- 23:10which I know that they would.
- 23:11So he might not have to,
- 23:13but as long as someone from
- 23:15the team is in the know of
- 23:17what's going on, what's been programmed,
- 23:18what works, what doesn't,
- 23:20what's safe for the athletes,
- 23:21I think that's where
- 23:23It's beneficial to be
- 23:24looking at what's going on
- 23:25in the sport elsewhere.
- 23:27They did talk about the
- 23:28monetization as well.
- 23:30And through that conversation,
- 23:32it became clear to me that
- 23:34Dave has monetized his channel.
- 23:37He just chose not to
- 23:38monetize those interviews.
- 23:42And he said there is like
- 23:44his hunting content.
- 23:45He monetizes.
- 23:47There are some things he does monetize,
- 23:49but he chose not to
- 23:50monetize the interviews.
- 23:55which we had a private
- 23:57discussion this week during
- 23:59Danielle's interview
- 24:00because it looked like
- 24:01there was a monetization marker on it,
- 24:06but it just meant you could
- 24:08do super chats,
- 24:09but he wasn't monetizing it through ads.
- 24:14And it was kind of explained.
- 24:17If you do YouTube,
- 24:18you understood it when he
- 24:19was talking about it yesterday.
- 24:21So...
- 24:23But he did interview Matt O'Keefe, too,
- 24:26and he was asked to do that
- 24:28by people at HQ to
- 24:32interview partners at the games.
- 24:36And HWPO is doing some activations.
- 24:38I think O'Keefe said like
- 24:41164 different activations
- 24:43during the week.
- 24:46And so they interviewed him about that.
- 24:48And in that conversation,
- 24:51Dave announced that they
- 24:54were going to give an award
- 24:56for the best training camp.
- 24:59He explained a little more
- 25:00in this interview with Siobhan as well.
- 25:02But basically,
- 25:04each camp can pick three
- 25:06athletes to represent them.
- 25:10And based on where they score,
- 25:11they can get a point or where they finish,
- 25:14they get a number of points.
- 25:18I must have missed the three.
- 25:19Each camp picks three athletes part.
- 25:21He said that in the O'Keefe interview.
- 25:25Oh.
- 25:26Yeah.
- 25:28It would be like a golf score.
- 25:30I don't know.
- 25:32Let's say Pat's HWPO now and
- 25:35other athletes.
- 25:35If Pat got second and
- 25:37someone else got fourth or
- 25:38at six points total or
- 25:40added a third athlete,
- 25:42whoever has the lowest
- 25:43would essentially win the top camp,
- 25:46if you want to call it.
- 25:49Which is different than the affiliate cup,
- 25:52apparently.
- 25:54Correct.
- 25:55So, Carolyn,
- 25:57as someone who's not a part of a camp,
- 26:00what are your overall
- 26:01thoughts that they're going
- 26:02down this path?
- 26:04Or does it not bother you?
- 26:10I just think...
- 26:12It's interesting to look at
- 26:14camps when half of them
- 26:15don't even train together, like ever.
- 26:17They just follow the program
- 26:20versus an actual training
- 26:21camp where they're training
- 26:24one-on-one or whatever, like together.
- 26:27I don't know.
- 26:31I feel like they already get
- 26:31a lot of advantages in the sport.
- 26:34That's just another thing
- 26:35that they're given,
- 26:36a little trophy or whatever they'll get.
- 26:41I don't know.
- 26:42I don't know that it really means much.
- 26:43It just, it helps the bigger camps,
- 26:47I guess, show which one's best.
- 26:49I feel like most of the
- 26:50analysts or the journalists, I should say,
- 26:54will write about which camp
- 26:56did the best anyways.
- 26:59But yeah, it's just hard.
- 27:00Yeah.
- 27:01Some of them don't even
- 27:02follow the program and they just,
- 27:04they'll take the money or
- 27:05the sponsorships that that
- 27:06camp will give them.
- 27:07And that's the other issue too.
- 27:09Like,
- 27:10if you look at certain
- 27:11athletes that were very recently,
- 27:15let's say changed camps or acquired,
- 27:18or even like last year,
- 27:19like let's say Colton, right?
- 27:20Like he was not proven.
- 27:21And then he was proven and
- 27:23whatever sponsorship he's
- 27:24getting through that, like right away,
- 27:26like, like they'll,
- 27:27they'll claim him right away, but like,
- 27:30we all know he was built, you know,
- 27:33from his,
- 27:34from his farm and doing his own
- 27:35stuff or whoever he was following before,
- 27:37just like the underdogs
- 27:39moving to prove it now a
- 27:41few weeks before the games, like,
- 27:43are they proven or are they underdogs?
- 27:45Like, yes, they're technically proven now,
- 27:47but how long have they been
- 27:49training there?
- 27:50Like that's another factor.
- 27:52So I have in my notes,
- 27:54there should be a minimum
- 27:55month requirement,
- 27:56but when Dave talked about it yesterday,
- 27:58he was like, listen,
- 28:00it means nothing and it means everything,
- 28:03was his quote.
- 28:04And it just gets people to talk.
- 28:07And what he was looking into
- 28:09was that they have to
- 28:11declare when they sign in for the game.
- 28:14So if...
- 28:16bailey martin shows up at
- 28:17the games and he's like you
- 28:18know what I identify more
- 28:20as underdogs than proven I
- 28:21want to go under underdogs
- 28:22this year boom he then he's
- 28:26publicly declared as an
- 28:28underdog athlete and he
- 28:29goes I don't care if they
- 28:30did anything under them or
- 28:31they did whatever but you
- 28:33have to publicly declare
- 28:35whatever it is um
- 28:38I think it just gets to be messy though,
- 28:40when it,
- 28:41when you're that freewheeling by
- 28:42it and and then do people
- 28:45get signed up just as a,
- 28:48as a number to win this award?
- 28:52Yeah.
- 28:52I mean,
- 28:53at some point it probably would
- 28:55monetarily benefit one of
- 28:57these camps to get one of
- 28:58these big names last minute,
- 29:00be on their team.
- 29:02That's going to be the
- 29:02winning team and more
- 29:03people are going to sign up
- 29:04for that programming.
- 29:06Yeah.
- 29:06Is it like, is it better to finish,
- 29:08get three athletes that
- 29:09finish high or get 10
- 29:11athletes that qualify?
- 29:12Right.
- 29:14That's another thing too.
- 29:15Like, but yeah, I don't know.
- 29:17I don't really have an opinion.
- 29:19I don't really,
- 29:19I don't follow any training camp program.
- 29:25my own stuff john young says
- 29:26you telling me pat is doing
- 29:27frazier's programming
- 29:29carolyn or is he doing the
- 29:30same deal with latondra
- 29:32they ain't influencing
- 29:33nothing it's just in the
- 29:34name only unless you know
- 29:36something I don't no to me
- 29:39he's he is michelle's
- 29:41athlete and he's doing deca
- 29:43which is now acquired by hwpl he's
- 29:46To me,
- 29:47I think it's so weird that he's HWPO.
- 29:49To me, he's DECA.
- 29:52It's even weird for certain
- 29:53athletes that are switching
- 29:55training camps now.
- 29:56It's just a name.
- 29:57It's just sponsorships.
- 29:57They'll do what they'll want
- 29:59to get more money or support,
- 30:01whether it's access to
- 30:02treatment at the games,
- 30:03access to information at the games,
- 30:07whatever.
- 30:09Being a part of a training
- 30:10camp is helpful at times.
- 30:15Again, like I said earlier,
- 30:16like Dave's idea of at
- 30:19least people are talking
- 30:20about it and that's what his goal is.
- 30:22I just don't think that's
- 30:23like big thinking marketing
- 30:25in this day and age.
- 30:27That's great in 2012 when
- 30:29you're a small sport coming up.
- 30:31But at some point you have
- 30:32to prove that you're doing
- 30:34things the right way.
- 30:35Not people talking.
- 30:38And are they even affiliated half the time,
- 30:40these like training camps or whatever,
- 30:42right?
- 30:42So like underdogs is a program,
- 30:44but I don't think that's an
- 30:45actual affiliate underdogs CrossFit.
- 30:48So it has other, I don't know,
- 30:53other repercussions, I guess.
- 30:57To me, the affiliate cup is a team stuff.
- 30:58The journalists and stuff
- 30:59and the analysts will say
- 31:01which one's the best camp anyways.
- 31:02I don't think it's, I mean,
- 31:05if he wants to do it, he wants to do it.
- 31:06It's a little...
- 31:07It's a fun little award.
- 31:09It's a Spirit of the Games award.
- 31:11Yeah, a little bit.
- 31:12Yeah.
- 31:13It's like the last-minute
- 31:15drop of the Triple Crown
- 31:18that Dave tried to say.
- 31:19Well,
- 31:20when you do it in the middle of the
- 31:21Triple Crown and nobody
- 31:22knew it even existed,
- 31:24is it really a Triple Crown?
- 31:27Right.
- 31:29And the scoring was absurd anyway, but...
- 31:33And then that just, to me,
- 31:35that's just going to go by the wayside.
- 31:37And this is another thing
- 31:38that just flippantly was said,
- 31:39and unless there's
- 31:41something put behind it
- 31:42that means something,
- 31:43it's just going to go away.
- 31:49So there's that.
- 31:51We'll finish up with Dave
- 31:53posted on his Instagram a
- 31:54video of Trista Smith, demo athlete,
- 31:58doing Chad.
- 32:01Now, yesterday on Savan,
- 32:03he said that he's the one
- 32:05that took the video and he
- 32:07on purposely made sure that
- 32:10you could not see the box.
- 32:15So does that tell you
- 32:16anything or is that just another one?
- 32:20I think there might be like
- 32:21two circles or two pieces
- 32:23of tape or something on the box.
- 32:24So you have to step up and then you can –
- 32:29like rotator twist the other way.
- 32:31And there might be, it might be, yeah,
- 32:33like you step up with both
- 32:35feet need to be like this
- 32:36versus you can't stand up
- 32:38halfway on the box where
- 32:39you can step down.
- 32:40You have to stand up.
- 32:41So your foot is on both parts of the,
- 32:43let's say a tape line on the box.
- 32:45Do you know what I mean by that or no?
- 32:48There's like, yeah, like you can't,
- 32:50you can't step to the far
- 32:51side of the box and be ready to get down.
- 32:53You need to be on this side of the box.
- 32:54Then you can turn and get your feet over.
- 32:57Yes.
- 32:57I think,
- 32:58I think there's something like
- 32:59that on the box so that
- 33:01you're not halfway turned
- 33:02when you're doing your step up,
- 33:04which would save seconds
- 33:05throughout the whole movement.
- 33:07Um,
- 33:07so that's the first thing I thought of
- 33:09was there must be something
- 33:10she's stepping on there.
- 33:12And then the second thing,
- 33:13which we talked about was
- 33:14that she was wearing knee
- 33:15sleeves folded on her ankles.
- 33:18So I didn't know whether every, you know,
- 33:20a hundred or 200 steps,
- 33:24Instead of moving a pile on,
- 33:26they had to go and do one rope climb,
- 33:29one weighted rope climb and
- 33:30then come back to their step ups.
- 33:31It's something that wouldn't
- 33:32be taking that long anyways.
- 33:34And then they just would do
- 33:36something like that.
- 33:36I don't know.
- 33:37But it was interesting that
- 33:38she wore knee sleeves to me
- 33:41unless she thought she was going to trip.
- 33:43But I don't think that you
- 33:44would wear knee sleeves
- 33:45during the box step ups.
- 33:48The twist is that you have
- 33:49to step down backwards,
- 33:50which means you have to
- 33:51turn on the top of the box.
- 33:53Tape line makes sense.
- 33:55Right.
- 33:57Or chalk circles or whatever
- 34:00forces them to do that.
- 34:03Andrew Sten also, unpurposely.
- 34:05Yes, that is official podcaster language.
- 34:09And it's a secret handbook
- 34:11we're given when we start a podcast.
- 34:13And we know the secret words you can use.
- 34:16So on purposely is one of those words.
- 34:23A literal twist.
- 34:25A literal twist.
- 34:26Yeah.
- 34:28That would be so Dave that
- 34:32Chad will have a twist and
- 34:33it actually is a literal twist.
- 34:37Yeah.
- 34:37Well,
- 34:39I think, I mean,
- 34:40I think Carolyn's right
- 34:41that there is something else.
- 34:43I mean,
- 34:44he said in that conversation with
- 34:47Saban that he spoke to
- 34:49Chad's spouse and informed
- 34:53her of the changes.
- 34:54And he even said like, well,
- 34:56she was testing components.
- 34:59So I mean,
- 35:00it sounds like there's something
- 35:01else being involved in that
- 35:03workout other than just the box.
- 35:05So, and I, yeah, I could,
- 35:06it could be the rope.
- 35:07It could, I don't know.
- 35:10Jay Birch,
- 35:12I could see that if they were on
- 35:13her knees,
- 35:14but they were actually folded
- 35:15down around her ankles.
- 35:17Or someone in our little
- 35:19chat said maybe their ankle weights.
- 35:24So that would be even another twist,
- 35:26but that would be crazy.
- 35:28Historic agrees.
- 35:33Yeah,
- 35:33there's historic fitness came in with
- 35:35the same thing.
- 35:36I mean,
- 35:37if the workouts are already super hard,
- 35:39like I've, I've done it with a 35 before.
- 35:42I don't think you need to add the weights.
- 35:44They have a heavy clean
- 35:45ladder coming right after.
- 35:46Um, it's already very leg intensive.
- 35:49Like your quads are gonna be blown up.
- 35:51Your calves are going to be sore.
- 35:53don't think the ankle
- 35:53weights are needed I just
- 35:55thought it was weird I i
- 35:56think it was knee sleeves
- 35:57um if I wear my knee
- 35:58sleeves on box jumps
- 35:59normally it's just in case
- 36:00I would you know fall and I
- 36:02don't have them rolled down
- 36:03I would have them higher up
- 36:05like middle of my shin in
- 36:06case I jump so the fact
- 36:07that they're all the way
- 36:08down the only time that you
- 36:09wear them all the way down
- 36:10is for rope climbs so to me
- 36:13and we've seen weighted
- 36:14rope climbs at rogue
- 36:15invitational or other
- 36:16competitions um to me it
- 36:21would make sense to
- 36:23I wouldn't be surprised if
- 36:25it's there just based off of that.
- 36:27Yeah.
- 36:28I wouldn't be surprised either.
- 36:29I mean, we could – you could, like,
- 36:34try to guess other workouts
- 36:36of the earlier days.
- 36:38But, I mean,
- 36:39he said it's going to be well-balanced.
- 36:41And I don't know that just straight Chad,
- 36:44like,
- 36:44without adding a gymnastics
- 36:45component or something,
- 36:47would be the best elimination workout.
- 36:50I mean, I like the –
- 36:53endurance aspect of it the
- 36:55you know it is a mindset
- 36:56thing but I do think
- 36:58throwing something in like
- 36:59a weighted rope climb would
- 37:01be a good idea yeah I'm
- 37:07okay with it um it would
- 37:10give it would give the
- 37:11judges a break from
- 37:12counting yeah that's true
- 37:16It just seemed like she was
- 37:17taking so many steps across the top.
- 37:19Maybe the box was wider.
- 37:21She is short though, right?
- 37:23She is short,
- 37:23but you could tell it was a
- 37:25wooden box by the squeaking of the shoe.
- 37:27Because you don't get that
- 37:29on the wide Rogue box.
- 37:34I just think that there's
- 37:35something where you have to stand up.
- 37:37You have both your feet there,
- 37:39you stand up,
- 37:40and then you can rotate your foot.
- 37:42I think it's the only way that I...
- 37:46I think would be fair where
- 37:49you're the judge can fully
- 37:50see the standing up and then you rotate.
- 37:52Yep.
- 37:54Yeah.
- 37:55Can you pull the video and
- 37:57show it just so we can look
- 37:58at it quickly?
- 37:59Or I told Jamie,
- 38:02I forgot my mouse upstairs.
- 38:05So I'm not as.
- 38:11Yeah.
- 38:11Historic says I like 10 rounds,
- 38:13100 step up plus one rope climb.
- 38:15I,
- 38:16Yeah, I like it.
- 38:20Wasn't this like he was
- 38:22training to climb a
- 38:25mountain or something?
- 38:26This was part of the reason
- 38:27he did this workout?
- 38:30I don't know.
- 38:30I don't know the history of it.
- 38:32I know that Dave talked
- 38:33about the history of him
- 38:35making it something in honor of him.
- 38:39Yeah.
- 38:40But
- 38:45So that's, that's the video.
- 38:47And you can see the black
- 38:52around the bottoms of her legs.
- 38:54Like, like to me,
- 38:55she purposely taps that
- 38:57circle or whatever's there.
- 38:58It could be a counter to
- 38:59count the reps so that it's,
- 39:01I have no idea,
- 39:02but there's something there
- 39:03to tap and then you can rotate,
- 39:06tap and then rotate.
- 39:08Right.
- 39:09Yeah.
- 39:10Yep.
- 39:11I totally agree.
- 39:12I just, I mean, if like,
- 39:13if he was a remote mountain
- 39:14climber doing training for
- 39:16something like that, you,
- 39:17you typically will have
- 39:18like a rope rope with you too,
- 39:20when you go do some of that stuff.
- 39:21So I could, I mean,
- 39:22I can see him throwing it,
- 39:23not taking away from the workout, um,
- 39:28throwing like a rope climb in there.
- 39:30I just like the dense step ups.
- 39:33So getting them away from the box too much,
- 39:35I think deviates from Chad.
- 39:37Um,
- 39:40So I hope that they keep it
- 39:43like where you're having to
- 39:45do a dense set.
- 39:46I've heard different
- 39:47channels talk about like
- 39:48elimination factors.
- 39:49I just don't see being an
- 39:51elimination of Chad,
- 39:52like where they cut after a
- 39:53certain amount of people or
- 39:55a certain amount of steps or time,
- 39:57just because if two people
- 39:59extend at the same time,
- 40:01it would take forever to
- 40:04like figure out, Oh,
- 40:05which one actually stood up first.
- 40:07Let me check this, you know,
- 40:08the stopwatch of a judge.
- 40:09Like there's no way that
- 40:11they have an elimination style.
- 40:12He said, everyone finishes Chad.
- 40:14Everyone's going to do Chad and finish it.
- 40:16Yeah.
- 40:18Yeah.
- 40:19Uh, fills us in Sarah Wilkinson.
- 40:21His wife has spoken publicly
- 40:22about his training habits,
- 40:23including doing a thousand
- 40:25step ups at a time while
- 40:26preparing for a climb up
- 40:29and can congo at the
- 40:30tallest mountain in South America.
- 40:32Yeah.
- 40:35But this,
- 40:36this announcement was made as well.
- 40:39And it turns out that it is
- 40:43a clean ladder and it looks
- 40:45like it is an elimination
- 40:49from 30 to 20 to 10.
- 40:54Just for the workout, to be clear.
- 40:56Correct.
- 40:58Just for the workout.
- 40:59This is event eight.
- 41:03If you look at the top,
- 41:04individual event eight,
- 41:06right beside clean and jerk
- 41:08or clean ladder.
- 41:10So any thoughts about this?
- 41:13Two events after the first cut.
- 41:16And probably... No.
- 41:20This is the first event after the cut.
- 41:21First event after the cut.
- 41:28Sorry.
- 41:28I'm not surprised it's a clean ladder.
- 41:30I have two...
- 41:33Well, if it's right after Chad and I mean,
- 41:36they'll also done a lot of
- 41:37legs so far with like the
- 41:39running and things going on,
- 41:42even the night prior,
- 41:42like their legs are like,
- 41:44I think we'll be smoked going into it.
- 41:46I don't see like some of the
- 41:47people online were saying
- 41:47like three 85 cleans.
- 41:49I'm like,
- 41:49there's no way like Fraser clean
- 41:52three 80 and he was the
- 41:53only one to clean that.
- 41:54And that's, you know,
- 41:57on a single platform,
- 41:58like it's right as a speed ladder.
- 42:00Normally it's something that's faster.
- 42:02Um, I think it's out of two things,
- 42:04either it's the same weight
- 42:05for all three rounds and
- 42:07then it's like three, two,
- 42:09and then they get rid of
- 42:10the one bar and now it's the two, one,
- 42:11one, one.
- 42:12And then they get rid of that one.
- 42:13And then it's the three.
- 42:15And then it just, let's say it goes,
- 42:17I don't know,
- 42:19245, 275, 315, 325, 345.
- 42:20I don't even know.
- 42:25I'm just saying numbers right now.
- 42:26Let's say it ends around 345.
- 42:28You get rid of that 245.
- 42:29So it could be something like that,
- 42:32or it gets progressively,
- 42:33and then you start seeing
- 42:35the heavier weights come out.
- 42:38You could see either style.
- 42:39Just because the way that he
- 42:40wrote the bars, I felt like, oh,
- 42:43maybe they're just
- 42:44eliminating that top one,
- 42:45and it's the same weight.
- 42:48weight as the one one one
- 42:50but I could see them going
- 42:52heavier but not no way
- 42:53that's going to 385 yeah I
- 42:56i don't know that that
- 42:58would even be it wouldn't
- 43:02if if only a couple men are
- 43:03going to get the final bar
- 43:04if you make it something
- 43:05like super heavy like that
- 43:06is that even fun to watch
- 43:08like you want to see the
- 43:09race you want to see people
- 43:10move the weight
- 43:12Yeah, it needs to be a race.
- 43:14It's a speed ladder.
- 43:16And especially with 30 athletes to begin,
- 43:19you don't want half the
- 43:20field to also be stuck on a bar.
- 43:22Right.
- 43:23I mean, it'll probably be lighter, heavier,
- 43:28and then heaviest.
- 43:29But I don't think you're
- 43:30going to see numbers like
- 43:31we've seen in certain.
- 43:33In the gases?
- 43:34I agree.
- 43:34Yeah, it's too heavy.
- 43:36Yeah.
- 43:38But it just, it brings the question that,
- 43:41you know,
- 43:41you're doing a clean ladder after cuts.
- 43:44Last year,
- 43:45they also did the Olympic
- 43:46liftings after the first
- 43:48cut and some of the
- 43:49stronger athletes didn't
- 43:50maybe get to showcase their strengths.
- 43:55Hopefully they have some
- 43:56strengths being tested in
- 43:58events prior to number seven,
- 44:01because we have Chad,
- 44:02you have that run swim.
- 44:05You have some other running implements.
- 44:07I'm sure there's going to be
- 44:08some strength probably in
- 44:09that one involved with the mile.
- 44:11Just not sure how it's going
- 44:12to get scored.
- 44:16But you have to think that
- 44:17there's going to be
- 44:18cross-city events coming up.
- 44:20Gymnastics needs to be there.
- 44:22And some sort of strength
- 44:23needs to get tested before
- 44:25they get to the clean ladder.
- 44:26Does it?
- 44:27I mean, he kind of touched on that.
- 44:29And he's like...
- 44:30You have to earn your spot to lift heavy.
- 44:33Like we aren't just trying
- 44:34to find the strongest person.
- 44:36They're trying to find the fittest.
- 44:37And they don't necessarily
- 44:40want you if you're just the
- 44:40strongest person there.
- 44:41Like you got to get there.
- 44:42Then you can show us what you can lift.
- 44:45But to me,
- 44:45it's too monostructural heavy on
- 44:49the first part.
- 44:50If you don't have a strength.
- 44:54I think it'll be well-rounded.
- 44:55Yeah, it should be well-rounded.
- 44:59John Young says,
- 45:01every speed ladder they've done,
- 45:02it goes up in weight.
- 45:03I think last bar is 365.
- 45:06That was my guess of the
- 45:08weight on the – because
- 45:11Dave said that you could, like,
- 45:12predict the weights each round.
- 45:16That's what I guessed.
- 45:16I went to 365 for the last one.
- 45:18No more than that.
- 45:21Julie and I have heard kind
- 45:22of different subject.
- 45:24What did you guys think of
- 45:25Tommy forgetting Emma
- 45:26Lawson on CrossFit Games
- 45:28show when he listed his top 10?
- 45:31So if people did not see this,
- 45:33there was CrossFit Games
- 45:35put out an Instagram post
- 45:37where they were previewing
- 45:39the games and listed just like one, two,
- 45:43three,
- 45:43and it was Tommy Marquez reading it.
- 45:45Women to look for at the games.
- 45:47Emma Lawson did not appear in the top 10.
- 45:51Yeah,
- 45:52I don't think that was Tommy
- 45:53Marquez's picks.
- 45:54I think that was... I think
- 45:55he was just doing the narration.
- 45:58Right.
- 46:01If it was,
- 46:02all three of us had her in the
- 46:03top 10 when we did our
- 46:04rankings last week.
- 46:06So for us,
- 46:07we all... We all picked her to
- 46:12finish in the top 10.
- 46:13It is interesting that she was left off.
- 46:18Was it a...
- 46:21Was it somewhat out of
- 46:22respect for her to stop
- 46:24having attention brought to
- 46:25her name and less pressure put on her?
- 46:28I don't know.
- 46:32It could be a pressure thing, yeah.
- 46:33I mean,
- 46:34I still think you have to
- 46:35acknowledge her in the top 10.
- 46:36Pressure or no pressure.
- 46:37That girl's a top 10 athlete.
- 46:39They didn't name her,
- 46:41which is the biggest name,
- 46:42and then I was surprised
- 46:43they didn't name Brooke as well.
- 46:45It was maybe another one
- 46:46coming back from last year.
- 46:48I would have thought they would have...
- 46:51used her, but yeah,
- 46:52I was very surprised when
- 46:53Emma wasn't there because
- 46:55she's a podium threat for sure.
- 46:57She could even threaten for
- 47:00the top spot pending if Tia
- 47:02has a very bad weekend.
- 47:06Another event was announced
- 47:07and that is a team event
- 47:10which said 5x400.
- 47:11The picture had Big Bob and
- 47:18Carolyn thinks that I'm
- 47:20overstating that Big Bob is
- 47:21in the picture,
- 47:22and they just grabbed a picture.
- 47:25Jamie, you're agreeing with Carolyn?
- 47:26Yes.
- 47:28They've used two different
- 47:29Big Bob pictures now.
- 47:31So why do you keep grabbing
- 47:33a picture with Big Bob if
- 47:35that's not part of this?
- 47:38No, the more I thought about it,
- 47:39I think they are using it.
- 47:41But I still like...
- 47:44My guess that I did with you
- 47:45where it's like you do one
- 47:47part of the field.
- 47:49Let's say one sled.
- 47:56You get one part of the sled
- 47:58distance and then you go
- 47:59for a 400 meter run.
- 48:01Let's say two athletes, male, female.
- 48:04They come back.
- 48:05All four athletes push
- 48:06another part of the slide.
- 48:08Let's say 10 meters or
- 48:09whatever section 15 yards.
- 48:11And then the other male,
- 48:12female goes and then female, female, male,
- 48:14male,
- 48:15and then all four of them do the
- 48:16last 400.
- 48:16Just so that they have still
- 48:19close to a mile of running
- 48:21because in boss's interview,
- 48:23he says that it mimics a
- 48:24lot of the events of the individuals.
- 48:26And if they're individuals
- 48:27are running a mile,
- 48:28like you would think the
- 48:29teams are not just running
- 48:30400 meters or 800 meters.
- 48:32They probably have three, three to do,
- 48:35and then it becomes strategy.
- 48:37which male and female you put together,
- 48:39maybe on which part,
- 48:40who can go back to back.
- 48:42I think that would be cool.
- 48:45So Kenneth asked, is there an average Bob?
- 48:48I think really what's
- 48:49pictured is just like Bob.
- 48:52There was a big Bob that
- 48:53actually had pull-up bars
- 48:55on it way back in the day,
- 48:56but they only used it like in 15,
- 48:58maybe 14, 15.
- 48:59And then we haven't seen it since.
- 49:08Uh, Jay Burch thinks Carolyn is right.
- 49:10Uh, it's also supposed to be a relay,
- 49:12maybe an 800.
- 49:13So maybe I've looked at this wrong.
- 49:18Isn't it like a,
- 49:20like something on the field
- 49:21is done with something with
- 49:24the happy star, who knows hurdles,
- 49:26something.
- 49:27I know, no,
- 49:30but I'm talking about
- 49:30individuals right now.
- 49:31So, so I can mimic it to the team.
- 49:34Okay.
- 49:35Okay.
- 49:35So isn't there just like a
- 49:36workout on the field and then stop, reset,
- 49:42like, and then the run, the mile run?
- 49:47Event six says field sprint, rest 1600.
- 49:53Okay.
- 49:56So why do you think that it
- 49:59couldn't just be a...
- 50:01relay carolyn like I think I
- 50:04think it could it could
- 50:06have a buy-in on on a sled
- 50:08if you want and then it's a
- 50:09relay yeah I would love it
- 50:12was the bob rest relay and
- 50:15actually do well a five by
- 50:17four hundred like I legit
- 50:18think it could be the five
- 50:20by four hundred you would
- 50:21put your most you would put
- 50:23your little bit longer
- 50:24endurance athlete somebody
- 50:25who can run an 800 fast fourth
- 50:29and just one one one one all
- 50:32four it could be for sure
- 50:38well I'm making a decision
- 50:41I'm going to skip through
- 50:42these next two really fast
- 50:43because we're already at 50 minutes um
- 50:47CrossFit stores back.
- 50:48If you want to get CrossFit gear,
- 50:50it's available.
- 50:51Dave kind of said yesterday
- 50:52that they might even have
- 50:54some pop-up stores in the
- 50:56venue next week and week and a half.
- 51:01And I'm sure they'll have
- 51:03something in Vendor Village.
- 51:05The other thing is new uniforms,
- 51:07they were for the opening ceremonies,
- 51:09what it was said in the caption,
- 51:11but I cannot find them now.
- 51:13So they've been pulled down from,
- 51:15I can't find them on GORUCK,
- 51:17can't find them on TIA,
- 51:19can't find them on CrossFit Games.
- 51:21Wow.
- 51:23So I don't know what that means.
- 51:25Did Spin post them though?
- 51:27I feel like Spin would have
- 51:28an article with them.
- 51:29He always has.
- 51:31Yeah,
- 51:31but it's weird that I can't find them
- 51:33on Instagram.
- 51:34That is weird.
- 51:37Because they were definitely there.
- 51:38Yeah, he did have an article with Tia.
- 51:45So this will be fast because
- 51:47we really got to get
- 51:47through to our rankings.
- 51:51They're a military type.
- 51:54I thought the men's was more muted.
- 51:57And that's the only picture
- 51:58he has of hers.
- 52:00But like they showed Adler's
- 52:01and it was very muted
- 52:03compared to the women's.
- 52:06Yeah.
- 52:07But this is supposed to be
- 52:08opening ceremonies.
- 52:10So I don't know if this is
- 52:12for everything or just for that.
- 52:15Well, I would assume it'd be similar.
- 52:17Just maybe, like,
- 52:18maybe there is an all-black
- 52:19or an all-green or something.
- 52:21I mean, that's typically how it goes,
- 52:22right?
- 52:24Some variations of that
- 52:25opening ceremony look.
- 52:27So...
- 52:31I thought they were okay.
- 52:34At least they're different
- 52:35and not the same old, same old.
- 52:41Clocks is watching CrossFit
- 52:42team athletes dropping
- 52:43batons all over the track
- 52:45would be so much fun.
- 52:46That is so much harder than it looks.
- 52:49I would love to watch it personally.
- 52:54The website just says it's
- 52:55Tia Jersey could be exclusive for her.
- 52:58I did talk to Emily Rolfe,
- 53:00who was the first sponsored
- 53:02athlete by go rock.
- 53:03She does not have a Jersey,
- 53:06which I think is pretty low,
- 53:08but that's just me and I'm
- 53:09friends with Emily.
- 53:10And so I'm probably, you know,
- 53:15I have an influence there that is bias.
- 53:19So there's that.
- 53:22All right.
- 53:23Again,
- 53:23I'm going to skip past the female
- 53:25thing one more time.
- 53:26We'll do the ranking.
- 53:27If we have time,
- 53:28we'll come back to the women thing.
- 53:32We ranked the men from one to 40.
- 53:35We will count them down this
- 53:37week and take all abuse
- 53:40given when I put Saxon
- 53:42Pancheck number one.
- 53:45Just kidding.
- 53:46Just kidding, John Young.
- 53:49This was so hard too.
- 53:51So hard.
- 53:52I, I, I just had to.
- 53:57Yeah, it was a different way this week.
- 54:00So it shows up a little bit better.
- 54:03Yeah, I can see it.
- 54:04Yeah.
- 54:05So this is the 31 to 39.
- 54:09If you recall,
- 54:10the fifth place finisher
- 54:13after drug tests was unable
- 54:15to get a visa from Asia.
- 54:17So we are only going to have
- 54:1839 male athletes.
- 54:20Jamie, go ahead and start with yours.
- 54:22Okay, 39, Calum Clements, then Ruan Pogge,
- 54:28Arthur Seminov, Bruno Marans,
- 54:30Harry Lightfoot, Peter Ellis,
- 54:32Kellyanne Souza, Anul Ikai,
- 54:35and Cole Graysaber.
- 54:40Okay, 39th, I have Ruan.
- 54:42I have Souza in 38, Bruno in 37,
- 54:43Peter Ellis, Arthur Seminov,
- 54:52Kalem Clements.
- 54:53I have Victor Hoffer in 33rd.
- 54:55I will explain why after.
- 55:00Harry Lightfoot.
- 55:00I just don't know enough
- 55:01about Harry Lightfoot and
- 55:03Cole Grayshaber.
- 55:06I'll let you go, Scott,
- 55:06and then I'll explain.
- 55:09I want to know because
- 55:10weren't you demo teammates last year,
- 55:13became all chummy,
- 55:15and then you disrespect them like this?
- 55:17She might know something.
- 55:19I'm just kidding.
- 55:20So I had a seminar off 39th
- 55:23Ruan pot guider.
- 55:24I think, uh, Kalen Clements,
- 55:26Harry Lightfoot, Bruno Marins,
- 55:29Cole Sager.
- 55:30I just think like it's time.
- 55:33Uh, Kalen Sousa,
- 55:34Anola Kai and Peter Ellis in my, uh,
- 55:39bottom 10, bottom nine.
- 55:44Go ahead, Carolyn.
- 55:46He's not a great runner.
- 55:48Uh,
- 55:49He has tremendous gymnastics.
- 55:51On his interview with Dave,
- 55:54he talked about injuries to
- 55:55his calf and how he hasn't
- 55:58been able to lift the same numbers,
- 56:00but he's working back towards them.
- 56:02I think with the amount of step ups
- 56:06and the amount of running
- 56:07that is programmed prior,
- 56:08I think he might be,
- 56:09unless there's a pure
- 56:10gymnastics stuff that he
- 56:11can get a hundred points on,
- 56:12I think he's going to be
- 56:13struggling to make the cut
- 56:15just off these first few events,
- 56:18knowing that his calf has,
- 56:20has issued for years now.
- 56:22And he's talked to, he talked,
- 56:23if you go back to listen to
- 56:24Dave's interview,
- 56:25he talks about this injury.
- 56:27Um, he had a lower back problem at rogue.
- 56:30I just don't know where he's
- 56:31at with some of his,
- 56:32I think it was lower back problem.
- 56:34Could be wrong with that, but, um,
- 56:36with some of his injuries
- 56:37and where that'll put him.
- 56:39He's a rookie.
- 56:40I think in two years,
- 56:41he is going to be extremely
- 56:43competitive at the games.
- 56:44I think he's just needs a
- 56:46little bit of time and
- 56:47maybe healing for his, um,
- 56:49whatever is going on with his calf.
- 56:51Cause I think that's still
- 56:52not a hundred percent and yeah,
- 56:55go back and listen to that Dave one.
- 56:57That was the, that's what I used to
- 56:59put him there um I think if
- 57:01he was healthier he'd be
- 57:04much higher he has all the
- 57:05potential I love him he was
- 57:06super nice it's just based
- 57:09off of where I think his
- 57:10health is going into the
- 57:11games fair enough for both
- 57:14of you uh you don't think
- 57:16cole grease saber has done
- 57:17anything to improve I just
- 57:21look at the people in front
- 57:21of him and it's just so hard I yeah I i
- 57:27I guess I don't know if he's
- 57:30going to be good enough in the run.
- 57:33He was my one where I'm like,
- 57:35do I think he can make that first cut?
- 57:37And I just was like,
- 57:38somebody's got to be out.
- 57:40And you're right.
- 57:40It could be Cole,
- 57:41but I feel like Cole always sneaks in.
- 57:43So you'll see I have Cole
- 57:45very slightly higher.
- 57:46I don't know.
- 57:48There's got to be one.
- 57:49It was the same with Kyra.
- 57:51So it came down to Cole for Cole.
- 57:54Kind of.
- 57:56It's not a direct one-to-one, but yeah.
- 57:59Yeah.
- 58:00I actually only have him
- 58:01like two spots higher, so.
- 58:02Right.
- 58:03I just wanted to see your reaction.
- 58:05Okay.
- 58:06So we will do the next one now.
- 58:14If there's handstand walking beforehand,
- 58:16I guess he has a shot.
- 58:18Same with Hoffer.
- 58:20True.
- 58:20We'll start with Carolyn, 21 to 30.
- 58:24Luckett, Cole Sager, Luke Parker,
- 58:27Agnola Kai, Chris Ibera, Alex Caron,
- 58:31Moritz Fiebig, Jack Rosema,
- 58:33Hendrik Hapelainen, Sam Cornwallier.
- 58:39I had Caron 30th, Cole Griesaber 29th,
- 58:42Fiebig 28th, Hoffer.
- 58:47Luka Djukic, Luke Parker, Chris Ibarra,
- 58:51Austin Hatfield, Guy Mejeros,
- 58:54and Brandon Luckett.
- 58:57I have 30th, Luke Parker, Ben Kolsager,
- 59:00Chris Ibarra, Alexander Caron,
- 59:03Brandon Luckett, Luka Djukic,
- 59:07Victor Hoffer, Moritz Fiebig, Jack Rosema,
- 59:11and Henrik Heppelainen.
- 59:14I will say that...
- 59:17The really hard for me is like,
- 59:20I know Luka Jukic can run.
- 59:23And with what's been put out
- 59:24there right now, like I really,
- 59:27really wanted to move him
- 59:28up a little bit.
- 59:29And I just, where,
- 59:33like when you get into the,
- 59:34it's so insane.
- 59:36And I knew,
- 59:37I knew John Young was going to
- 59:38come at me.
- 59:39Hatfield slander will be
- 59:41remembered for all my days.
- 59:43I, I just want to see it at the games.
- 59:47I have learned in my 13
- 59:50years watching this sport
- 59:52that the semifinals or
- 59:55regionals is way different
- 59:56than the games.
- 1:00:00And I just,
- 1:00:00I need to see him perform at the games.
- 1:00:06Uh, Larry young Fargo could,
- 1:00:09if he was there.
- 1:00:10Yeah.
- 1:00:17Um,
- 1:00:19And Henrik, I think,
- 1:00:20had a good year last year, Heppelainen.
- 1:00:23I just think he'll have a
- 1:00:24little bit of a fallback
- 1:00:25just with how good the field is.
- 1:00:27I don't know.
- 1:00:27Maybe he won't.
- 1:00:29Sam Cournoyer,
- 1:00:30he's a tough one because
- 1:00:31he's so talented.
- 1:00:32There is a lot of running right now.
- 1:00:34He hasn't been traditionally
- 1:00:35a great runner as well.
- 1:00:38And he was a little bit injured last year.
- 1:00:40He always seems to be sick at the games.
- 1:00:43Yeah.
- 1:00:44And until he can actually
- 1:00:46prove to me at the games
- 1:00:47and not a Wadapalooza that
- 1:00:48he can kind of correct there,
- 1:00:50I kind of just left him
- 1:00:51right there close to that cut line,
- 1:00:52which is exactly where I
- 1:00:53think he finished last year.
- 1:00:55I hope to see him make the
- 1:00:56cut because I think he's
- 1:00:58got really good potential.
- 1:01:00I just don't know with some
- 1:01:01of the events that have
- 1:01:02been programmed so far where he'll stack.
- 1:01:07Yeah.
- 1:01:08And how many events before the second cut?
- 1:01:10Because we don't know that part, right?
- 1:01:14It's the end of the day on Saturday.
- 1:01:15So on Sunday they'll start with the 20.
- 1:01:18So yeah, but we, yeah, we don't know.
- 1:01:20We don't even know how many
- 1:01:21total events there are or yeah.
- 1:01:24My tough one here was Jack
- 1:01:25Rosema and it kind of goes
- 1:01:27like hand in hand with Hatfield.
- 1:01:28Like I've talked about
- 1:01:29Hatfield for a long time.
- 1:01:31I really, really like Jack.
- 1:01:33I really hope,
- 1:01:34I really hope he can make it
- 1:01:34to the final day.
- 1:01:37So, so Jack is my John's Hatfield, right?
- 1:01:42Yeah.
- 1:01:44And I think it's a good pick.
- 1:01:47Yeah, I think – I mean,
- 1:01:49I even considered – yeah,
- 1:01:50I was stuck with Rosema and Ibera.
- 1:01:52I just thought with being rookies,
- 1:01:54like they could – those are
- 1:01:55two that I think really
- 1:01:56could propel themselves
- 1:01:58inside that top 20.
- 1:02:00But I just figured they're rookies.
- 1:02:01I put – I went with Hatfield
- 1:02:05just based off of his year –
- 1:02:09like a crash and a few other
- 1:02:11events that he's had just
- 1:02:13went by gut gut for him
- 1:02:17over those other two
- 1:02:18rookies that are there.
- 1:02:23Let's hit a couple of these comments.
- 1:02:26Jay Birch says,
- 1:02:27John Hatfield ain't got that dog.
- 1:02:28I don't,
- 1:02:30I don't necessarily agree with that.
- 1:02:32I just think he needs a year at the games.
- 1:02:35Lynn says, and Guy, Scott,
- 1:02:37I thought we talked about this last week.
- 1:02:39He's going to be top five in
- 1:02:40speed ladder and top 10 in sprint.
- 1:02:45I got to see it.
- 1:02:47I need to see that he's
- 1:02:48worked on the other stuff.
- 1:02:51We don't even fully know
- 1:02:52what the sprint is to say that.
- 1:02:54Right.
- 1:02:58Guy will be top 15 if he
- 1:02:59gets to the clean ladder.
- 1:03:00He will have another home
- 1:03:01run in the ladder events.
- 1:03:04I don't know.
- 1:03:05I just don't know.
- 1:03:06I don't have... So... There we go.
- 1:03:16So then let's go to the
- 1:03:17next... To get these to blow up,
- 1:03:22it is not the easiest thing to do.
- 1:03:29Here we go.
- 1:03:31I'll lead off the 11 to 20.
- 1:03:33I have Heinrich Heiplein in 20th,
- 1:03:36just barely making the cut.
- 1:03:37Bailey Martin with a little
- 1:03:38bit of a slip back this year.
- 1:03:39BKG, Travis Mayer, James Sprague in 16th,
- 1:03:43Sam Korn, 15th, Jason Hopper, 14th,
- 1:03:47Sam Korn, 13th, Rosema, 12th, Yellowhosta,
- 1:03:5111th.
- 1:03:51Okay.
- 1:03:55Me?
- 1:03:55Gosh, Carol,
- 1:03:56I cannot believe how similar
- 1:03:57we are on these.
- 1:03:59Okay, I have 20th, Travis Mayer.
- 1:04:02Then Hatfield, Sam Cornwaye, Gee,
- 1:04:05James Sprague, Bailey Martin, BKG,
- 1:04:09Saxon Panchik, Sam Quant, and Yala Hoste.
- 1:04:14Travis Mayer, another good runner.
- 1:04:17Luca, I had a gut instinct just for Luca,
- 1:04:20and I'd like to see him do
- 1:04:22well at the games.
- 1:04:24Austin Hadfield,
- 1:04:25I think that's my highest
- 1:04:26rookie finisher.
- 1:04:27I just think for the rookies,
- 1:04:30it's rare to see them get
- 1:04:31close to that top 10.
- 1:04:33We did see that last couple
- 1:04:35years with female athletes.
- 1:04:36We saw it with Yelahosta last year.
- 1:04:40This field just seems to be so deep.
- 1:04:42Could Austin finish higher?
- 1:04:43Maybe, but we'll see.
- 1:04:46Gee, Bailey Martin in 17th, BKG, Saxon,
- 1:04:50Yelahosta.
- 1:04:52James Sprague,
- 1:04:53I think he'll have a great year.
- 1:04:55I think he's looking awesome.
- 1:04:56Super impressed by him in the semifinals.
- 1:05:00And Sam Quant, 11th.
- 1:05:04So the big thing here is,
- 1:05:09I had Jason Hopper in the top 10,
- 1:05:11but I said last year after
- 1:05:12the games that I am not
- 1:05:13trusting him ever again.
- 1:05:15He burns me every year.
- 1:05:17And so I dropped him down
- 1:05:18and I looked at him as he's
- 1:05:20just become another Sam Quant.
- 1:05:23Like, depending on programming,
- 1:05:25he could get a top 10,
- 1:05:27but this is really the
- 1:05:28normalization of where
- 1:05:30Jason Hopper is going to be.
- 1:05:32I hope he proves me wrong
- 1:05:33because he has looked like
- 1:05:34a different athlete this year,
- 1:05:36but he always looks
- 1:05:36different in semifinals.
- 1:05:39I need to see it at the games.
- 1:05:42James Stig, I saw in the comments,
- 1:05:44people are like, I think he's top 10.
- 1:05:47Again,
- 1:05:47semifinals are so different than the
- 1:05:49games.
- 1:05:50It's a lot longer and...
- 1:05:53James has been dealing with a hip issue.
- 1:05:56So with that longer format at the games,
- 1:06:01I don't have him in the top 10.
- 1:06:03And with this field,
- 1:06:04to make the jump from not
- 1:06:06making the cut last year to
- 1:06:07making the top 10 in the
- 1:06:08men's side is insane.
- 1:06:11To me,
- 1:06:12he's my most improved for my male pick,
- 1:06:16most improved for the year.
- 1:06:17And my rookie of the year is
- 1:06:20Austin for the men.
- 1:06:21And I don't know if they'll
- 1:06:22have male and female.
- 1:06:23And I think I had Walton on
- 1:06:25the female side being my highest rookie.
- 1:06:32Anything from you, Jimmy?
- 1:06:33Hmm.
- 1:06:37No, I, Travis is a hard one for me.
- 1:06:40I always want him to,
- 1:06:41I always want to pick him hard,
- 1:06:43much higher than I have him here.
- 1:06:45Um,
- 1:06:47I'm hoping he can do enough to make it
- 1:06:48to the last day, but I mean, I think,
- 1:06:50I think what we've seen
- 1:06:51stacks up for him pretty well.
- 1:06:53Uh, but I was,
- 1:06:57I had hoped he would do
- 1:06:58better at semis than he did.
- 1:07:00So.
- 1:07:02Um, yeah.
- 1:07:04So what's funny is, uh,
- 1:07:07I'm the only one that's
- 1:07:07seen all three of our top
- 1:07:09picks and they're, they're,
- 1:07:12they're actually going to be very similar,
- 1:07:14um, when we get there.
- 1:07:15But, um, this talk,
- 1:07:17like I put out a poll
- 1:07:18question a couple of weeks ago,
- 1:07:20is this the deepest men's
- 1:07:21field we've ever seen?
- 1:07:22And I could not believe that
- 1:07:24it was not a hundred percent.
- 1:07:28Because how you get someone
- 1:07:30into the top 10, going in just in my mind,
- 1:07:34I'm thinking, yeah,
- 1:07:35he's a top 10 athlete.
- 1:07:37But I don't know where to put him.
- 1:07:41Now,
- 1:07:41the one thing you will notice is Saxon
- 1:07:44Pancheck has not made my list yet.
- 1:07:48John Young.
- 1:07:51Just saying.
- 1:07:52Saxon's still available on my top 10.
- 1:07:57So with that, let's go to the top 10.
- 1:08:08There it is.
- 1:08:10Bam.
- 1:08:12Go ahead, Jamie.
- 1:08:12Okay.
- 1:08:1410th, Jason Hopper.
- 1:08:169th, Lazard Jujkic.
- 1:08:17Jay Crouch, Brent Fikowski, Dalen Pepper,
- 1:08:20Justin Medeiros, Pat Bellner,
- 1:08:23Roman Kronikoff, Ricky Garrard,
- 1:08:25Jeff Adler.
- 1:08:29I'll go.
- 1:08:30Jay Crouch, Lazar, Jason Hopper, Dallin,
- 1:08:34Brent Fikowski, Justin Medeiros.
- 1:08:36I think we'll have a great
- 1:08:37bounce back here.
- 1:08:39Roman Krennikoff, Pat Vellner,
- 1:08:42Ricky Gerard, and Jeff Adler.
- 1:08:45And I went Lazar Jukic, Brent Fikowski,
- 1:08:47Saxon Panczek, Jay Crouch, Dallin Pepper,
- 1:08:51Roman Krennikoff, Justin Medeiros,
- 1:08:53Pat Vellner, Ricky Gerard, Jeff Adler.
- 1:08:56So we all have Jeff Adler
- 1:08:58and Ricky Garrard 1-2.
- 1:09:00What shocked me to death is
- 1:09:02the biggest Pat Vellner fan
- 1:09:04does not have him in the top three.
- 1:09:07I'm, like, so sad about this right now.
- 1:09:09What the heck, guys?
- 1:09:11So I thought a lot about
- 1:09:13what Carolyn said with last
- 1:09:16year's programming was
- 1:09:18super upper body pulling, like,
- 1:09:20great for Gazan.
- 1:09:21And it's true for Pat, too.
- 1:09:23And it makes me think, like,
- 1:09:25will we see different programming?
- 1:09:26And, like, what if it goes back to, like,
- 1:09:29the year before was so,
- 1:09:30so shoulder intensive?
- 1:09:31And we know Pat starts to
- 1:09:32struggle in those long
- 1:09:33shoulder endurance stuff.
- 1:09:34So I started thinking if we just get –
- 1:09:37a shit ton of shoulder
- 1:09:39overheads or snatches.
- 1:09:40I mean,
- 1:09:42is he going to pull out another
- 1:09:45podium finish?
- 1:09:45And it just, it scares me.
- 1:09:47I just, I don't know.
- 1:09:48It's got to line up for him good.
- 1:09:49And I don't know that it's
- 1:09:50going to be a bunch of
- 1:09:51upper body pulling again this year.
- 1:09:53I think that's extremely
- 1:09:54valid points that you're making.
- 1:09:57I struggled a little bit with Brent.
- 1:10:00I wanted to put him,
- 1:10:01I think closer towards the 10th.
- 1:10:03I went with just Brent,
- 1:10:04history a little bit and
- 1:10:05just where I think he was
- 1:10:06last year and he said he's
- 1:10:07feeling the healthiest this
- 1:10:08year but I feel like he
- 1:10:09said that every year and
- 1:10:10he's had issues with his
- 1:10:12knees or hamstring or
- 1:10:13something like that um my
- 1:10:15heart went with pat and on
- 1:10:16the podium over roman so I
- 1:10:19couldn't put pat off the
- 1:10:20podium um yeah I think all
- 1:10:23of these guys are gonna be
- 1:10:25battling really um all weekend long
- 1:10:29So here's my big take.
- 1:10:31I've said Jeff Adler for two years, right?
- 1:10:35I think he's the most
- 1:10:35well-rounded athlete there
- 1:10:37is in the sport right now.
- 1:10:40There's something deep
- 1:10:42inside of me that believes
- 1:10:44that Justin is taking all of this stuff,
- 1:10:48bottling it up,
- 1:10:49and is going to have
- 1:10:50another great year and
- 1:10:52watch him quietly win the
- 1:10:54games for the third time.
- 1:10:58I just,
- 1:10:59nobody paid attention to him the
- 1:11:01entire semifinal,
- 1:11:02and at the end of the weekend, he won.
- 1:11:06Just like he did the other
- 1:11:07two years at the games.
- 1:11:10He is being quiet about all this stuff,
- 1:11:12and I truly think he is
- 1:11:15back to having some fun with this,
- 1:11:17and he's back to the old Justin,
- 1:11:20and it would not shock me
- 1:11:22because nobody is putting
- 1:11:23Justin Medeiros on the podium.
- 1:11:25I've watched every show.
- 1:11:28Nobody has Justin on the, in the podium.
- 1:11:31I think that's because, well, like we've,
- 1:11:34he just doesn't seem to have home runs.
- 1:11:36Like he might be consistent, but I,
- 1:11:38I think with this field,
- 1:11:39you're going to have to have someone like,
- 1:11:41you know, there's an event Jeff can win.
- 1:11:43And we know that, like,
- 1:11:46I don't know if we can say
- 1:11:48that about Justin.
- 1:11:48And I think that's why it's
- 1:11:49hard to give him a even podium.
- 1:11:51Like,
- 1:11:52We have him in fourth or fifth,
- 1:11:54basically all of us.
- 1:11:55But to say he's going to
- 1:11:56even get third is tough if
- 1:11:59you can't say he can win
- 1:12:01one or two events.
- 1:12:04Yeah,
- 1:12:05seventh best and everything won't be
- 1:12:06good enough, exactly.
- 1:12:09Sarah Cooper says, please no.
- 1:12:11Winning overall but not
- 1:12:12winning an event annoys me
- 1:12:14for no valid reason.
- 1:12:17It annoys me for no reason.
- 1:12:19But there's something
- 1:12:20telling me that that's what
- 1:12:22this is going to be this year.
- 1:12:24I think you're going to have
- 1:12:25to win an event this year with this feel.
- 1:12:27It's so deep that you need
- 1:12:28to win an event.
- 1:12:34To me, this past year,
- 1:12:35the Rogue Invitational,
- 1:12:37the other competitions,
- 1:12:38I think Roman had a quieter offseason.
- 1:12:43I thought he was going to be
- 1:12:44a little bit more dominant at semifinals.
- 1:12:47I normally would have had him probably
- 1:12:50in first or second,
- 1:12:51but I just haven't seen
- 1:12:52that in him this past year,
- 1:12:54but maybe he'll turn it on
- 1:12:56at the games like he did
- 1:12:57last year and everything
- 1:12:58will be peaking at the right time,
- 1:13:00which is what you want to
- 1:13:01do as an athlete.
- 1:13:03Yeah.
- 1:13:04I mean, it's a solid list.
- 1:13:06I think you're right.
- 1:13:08Scott, like Justin could be on the podium.
- 1:13:10Do I see him winning?
- 1:13:11I don't know.
- 1:13:13He is very consistent.
- 1:13:15He's looking good in his training.
- 1:13:17He's looking, he looked good at semis.
- 1:13:20I'd be happy for him to do that comeback.
- 1:13:23It's like the magic goatee
- 1:13:24came in and took over.
- 1:13:30Yeah.
- 1:13:31I just, I couldn't,
- 1:13:32this is where I've been all year,
- 1:13:34so I didn't want to change
- 1:13:35it up too much at the top.
- 1:13:37But that's really how I'm
- 1:13:39feeling at this point in
- 1:13:41the season is I just think he's going to,
- 1:13:45he's going to have a great
- 1:13:45year and I have not Justin
- 1:13:48fan through this whole thing.
- 1:13:52Yeah, that's true.
- 1:13:53Did you also submit your spin pool?
- 1:13:55I did.
- 1:13:56Did you spend exactly this 40?
- 1:13:59Exactly this.
- 1:13:59Wow.
- 1:14:01I have mine's I think a little different.
- 1:14:04I don't think much, but yeah,
- 1:14:06I knew we were doing this.
- 1:14:07So I just screenshot it as I
- 1:14:08went through it.
- 1:14:10So that I could,
- 1:14:11it just made it easier with
- 1:14:12all my travel this weekend.
- 1:14:16So with all of our women's
- 1:14:17picks and men's picks,
- 1:14:19who's your rookie of the
- 1:14:20year and who's your most improved?
- 1:14:27I believe Grace Wallen is
- 1:14:28also my rookie of the year women.
- 1:14:31And I think,
- 1:14:32so Hatfield would be my rookie
- 1:14:34of the year here in 19th.
- 1:14:38Do you have someone that is
- 1:14:39your most improved?
- 1:14:42That just jumped up from before?
- 1:14:50I don't know.
- 1:14:50It'd probably be James.
- 1:14:56Yeah.
- 1:14:57I, uh,
- 1:14:59I I'm just going by memory cause I
- 1:15:01don't remember where I put them, but I,
- 1:15:04I do have Hattie pretty
- 1:15:05high on the women's side.
- 1:15:06I think I have her 15th.
- 1:15:07Uh, and I, that's ahead of grace.
- 1:15:10Um, gosh, just trying to,
- 1:15:12there's so many rookies.
- 1:15:14Like I know,
- 1:15:14I feel like I'm forgetting somebody.
- 1:15:18How high did you have Jack Rosamond?
- 1:15:21Jack was 15th, I think.
- 1:15:2313th.
- 1:15:25So he would be your rookie.
- 1:15:27Yeah,
- 1:15:28Rosamund would be my rookie of the year.
- 1:15:32And then most improved,
- 1:15:34I think I'd have to go with John Young.
- 1:15:36I think Abby Doman I have
- 1:15:37jump in the most.
- 1:15:42Yeah, I have her pretty high.
- 1:15:44That might be more than a
- 1:15:45James Sprague for me.
- 1:15:46I'm not sure.
- 1:15:47Yeah, I think I have her eighth.
- 1:15:51Oh, I don't have her that high.
- 1:15:52Yeah.
- 1:15:53I have her with a big jump,
- 1:15:54so I think that's my most improved.
- 1:15:57And my comeback player of
- 1:15:58the year is Saxon Panjack.
- 1:16:02I mean,
- 1:16:02your comeback would technically be
- 1:16:03Justin on these picks.
- 1:16:07Well,
- 1:16:08Saxon came back from not even being
- 1:16:09at the games.
- 1:16:10That's true.
- 1:16:13Mine, I guess,
- 1:16:13would be Hopper for a comeback.
- 1:16:18I don't think like Hopper
- 1:16:19would be most improved
- 1:16:20because he's already been
- 1:16:21in the top 10 before, like,
- 1:16:22I think he got six or seven, six,
- 1:16:24seven to one year.
- 1:16:25So to me it would be if
- 1:16:27you're consistently lower
- 1:16:28and then you made a big jump to me,
- 1:16:31that's what most improve is,
- 1:16:32but it could be off your last year,
- 1:16:33but I don't know.
- 1:16:35Yeah.
- 1:16:35Yeah.
- 1:16:35Uh, Larry young, thank you for the 4 99.
- 1:16:38I borrow is rookie men, rookie men's.
- 1:16:42Um, and they're right.
- 1:16:43I Ricky would, if I go with,
- 1:16:44it wasn't there to where
- 1:16:46they are at Ricky.
- 1:16:47I have second, right?
- 1:16:49yeah we all do so yeah uh
- 1:16:58how many more events will
- 1:16:59get released before the
- 1:17:00games you think three three
- 1:17:07that's a lot I don't know
- 1:17:15uh jonathan most improved
- 1:17:17from not attending the
- 1:17:17games to winning the games
- 1:17:21Yeah, you're right.
- 1:17:24Can you give a seven-time
- 1:17:27champion most improved?
- 1:17:31No.
- 1:17:36Anyway, I think three is too much,
- 1:17:39but are these really released events?
- 1:17:42Because we still don't know
- 1:17:43anything about them.
- 1:17:46I think Dave wants people talking.
- 1:17:48Right.
- 1:17:51I think it's great that I mean,
- 1:17:52a lot of the athletes don't
- 1:17:54like them released.
- 1:17:55I like them when they're released.
- 1:17:56Personally,
- 1:17:57I don't mind practicing some stuff.
- 1:18:00But it does get, you know,
- 1:18:03people talking about them
- 1:18:04people speculating about
- 1:18:05the movements or what it can be.
- 1:18:06I think this is positive,
- 1:18:08right without giving exact
- 1:18:10details on the workouts.
- 1:18:12I think it's, it's good.
- 1:18:15Yeah.
- 1:18:17They're teasers, or appetizers.
- 1:18:24I just think it's
- 1:18:25interesting that the team
- 1:18:26workouts will be close.
- 1:18:28Not all of them,
- 1:18:29but Bosman did say that
- 1:18:31they were close to the individuals.
- 1:18:35I just wonder how they go
- 1:18:36about programming that.
- 1:18:37Does Boz have to wait for
- 1:18:39Dave to program the
- 1:18:40individual ones so that he
- 1:18:42can do similar ones that works?
- 1:18:44I think that would be interesting to see.
- 1:18:48ask Boz on how they work on
- 1:18:49their programming so that they have,
- 1:18:52you know,
- 1:18:53similar concepts or are
- 1:18:54utilizing the rings on the
- 1:18:56same workouts and just equipment stuff.
- 1:18:59Right.
- 1:19:01And he did say that they're
- 1:19:02going to mimic some of the
- 1:19:03things that they're doing.
- 1:19:06So if Dave is programming the individuals,
- 1:19:08I would assume that Boz has
- 1:19:10to wait a little bit for
- 1:19:12some of the information and
- 1:19:13then try to think of something,
- 1:19:14but I could be wrong.
- 1:19:17Yeah, I agree.
- 1:19:18That is an interesting take because,
- 1:19:20I mean,
- 1:19:20he did say they're like separate
- 1:19:21and Boz is doing team, but...
- 1:19:26is he really for one and for two,
- 1:19:28I feel like it,
- 1:19:29it makes the most sense to
- 1:19:32mimic that workout as much as possible.
- 1:19:34One, just for setting up the field,
- 1:19:36but the people that just watched,
- 1:19:39if you get new people watching,
- 1:19:40at least if you watched the individual,
- 1:19:42which is usually a little
- 1:19:43bit easier to follow,
- 1:19:45then you understand what's
- 1:19:46happening in the team a little easier.
- 1:19:47If it's a very, if it's a similar workout,
- 1:19:49when you just throw a whole
- 1:19:50nother workout out there,
- 1:19:51people are like,
- 1:19:53Like last year was so confusing.
- 1:19:54There was workouts out there.
- 1:19:55I was like, man,
- 1:19:56I hope people are not
- 1:19:57watching this on TV right now.
- 1:19:59Like I would be lost.
- 1:20:02Yeah.
- 1:20:04Some of the team events in
- 1:20:05the last couple of years
- 1:20:05have been really hard,
- 1:20:08really hard to watch.
- 1:20:09They're fun to do.
- 1:20:10They're great tests,
- 1:20:11but they're not just not
- 1:20:14watchable sometimes.
- 1:20:16Right.
- 1:20:16Kenneth says, I want a full-blown release,
- 1:20:18all details,
- 1:20:19a video of demo team doing the workout,
- 1:20:21the whole kit and caboodle.
- 1:20:23And the response to that
- 1:20:24from Jonathan Ortega, hold the phone.
- 1:20:27It's kit and caboodle,
- 1:20:28not kitten caboodle?
- 1:20:30Yeah, it's kit and caboodle, yes.
- 1:20:35I've never heard of either, so.
- 1:20:40Oh, that's funny.
- 1:20:42Larry Young says, it's only 11 days away.
- 1:20:47So I think he's saying three
- 1:20:50more events in 11 days is a lot to ask.
- 1:20:56Did you ever have a caboodle, Carolyn?
- 1:20:59I have no idea what you guys
- 1:21:00are talking about.
- 1:21:01Oh, God.
- 1:21:03Pull up a caboodle, please, Scott.
- 1:21:06It's like your little
- 1:21:09container for makeup or whatever.
- 1:21:12You put hair thing.
- 1:21:13I don't know.
- 1:21:13You put whatever in it.
- 1:21:15caboodle yeah maybe if I see
- 1:21:17it I don't know I never
- 1:21:19call it up scott what the
- 1:21:21heck is a caboodle oh god
- 1:21:24it might be that old um wow
- 1:21:34okay I didn't know what one
- 1:21:35of these I just I've heard
- 1:21:36the phrase oh gee but I
- 1:21:39have uh never I didn't know
- 1:21:41it was a thing
- 1:21:44So a caboodle is this like
- 1:21:47kit that you put all your makeup in.
- 1:21:50Yeah.
- 1:21:50Okay.
- 1:21:52My sister's had them.
- 1:21:53Not me.
- 1:21:56So that is a caboodle.
- 1:21:57And it actually starts with a C,
- 1:21:59not a K. Yeah.
- 1:22:02I feel,
- 1:22:03I sort of feel like maybe the
- 1:22:04phrase is older than this.
- 1:22:06And then the caboodle got named because of,
- 1:22:09I don't know.
- 1:22:09I'm not sure.
- 1:22:11This is the Kitten Caboodle
- 1:22:14Doodle Edition.
- 1:22:19Can't say I put my makeup in
- 1:22:20there growing up.
- 1:22:23I'm pretty sure I had one.
- 1:22:25It looks like what I used to
- 1:22:26put fishing lures in.
- 1:22:27Yeah, yes.
- 1:22:31Yeah.
- 1:22:32Like a tackle box, exactly what it is.
- 1:22:34There you go, Jeff Birchfield.
- 1:22:36Yeah, wow.
- 1:22:39Wow.
- 1:22:42Well, do we want to hit this last topic?
- 1:22:44We've had it in here for two weeks.
- 1:22:47Let's hit it real quick,
- 1:22:48and then maybe we run it over next week.
- 1:22:51So when Andrew Hiller did
- 1:22:53his top 10 based on social
- 1:22:58media followers,
- 1:23:02it was incredibly lopsided
- 1:23:08to the women had way more
- 1:23:10followers than the men.
- 1:23:13And then he said with that,
- 1:23:15and he just threw this out as,
- 1:23:17if there are more followers
- 1:23:18for the women in this sport,
- 1:23:21should the women get paid
- 1:23:22more than the men?
- 1:23:25Because that has been the
- 1:23:26concept in the reverse for
- 1:23:31a lot of the sports that
- 1:23:31have been going on,
- 1:23:32that men get paid more
- 1:23:34because more people watch,
- 1:23:36more people follow.
- 1:23:38But yet in this sport that has been equal,
- 1:23:41more people are following the women.
- 1:23:45So should the women get paid more?
- 1:23:51I mean,
- 1:23:51I think naturally they will based
- 1:23:54on sponsorships because of
- 1:23:56their following.
- 1:23:57So that'd be the only thing I would say.
- 1:24:00Do I think there,
- 1:24:01do I think the first place
- 1:24:03women's check should be
- 1:24:05350,000 and the first place
- 1:24:06men's should be 250 or 300?
- 1:24:07No.
- 1:24:07Yeah, I agree.
- 1:24:10They're already getting the money.
- 1:24:12based off of sponsorships
- 1:24:13and stuff like that.
- 1:24:14They're already making more
- 1:24:15naturally in the sport than the men do.
- 1:24:18So let me take that a step further.
- 1:24:20If you're CrossFit and the
- 1:24:24women are being followed
- 1:24:25more than the men,
- 1:24:27should you make sure that
- 1:24:30the women have prime spots on ESPN,
- 1:24:33that the women have...
- 1:24:35prime locations of in the
- 1:24:37weekend that they are being
- 1:24:39featured because it it does
- 1:24:41seem very much that the men
- 1:24:42are talked about a lot and
- 1:24:45the women still a lot but
- 1:24:48not quite as much for what
- 1:24:51you're seeing in these
- 1:24:52numbers and it's you'd
- 1:24:54almost have to see like the
- 1:24:55streaming numbers for for
- 1:24:57both as well which we don't know yeah
- 1:25:04Because the reason I say
- 1:25:05that is I had Holly go back
- 1:25:08and grab who was the final
- 1:25:11event for all of the CrossFit Games.
- 1:25:17And in 2007, they went at the same time.
- 1:25:21But then in 2008,
- 1:25:22it was women doing grace.
- 1:25:252009 to 2014, it was the men.
- 1:25:30And he's talking about the
- 1:25:32men are always ending the games.
- 1:25:33Yes.
- 1:25:35So they're the main event type thing.
- 1:25:38Then in 2015, the women ended the games.
- 1:25:402016 to 2019, it was the men again.
- 1:25:412020, we were the small ranch games.
- 1:25:44They both went at the same
- 1:25:46time because that was the Atalanta.
- 1:25:47And then 21 and 22,
- 1:25:50the women finished the games and 23,
- 1:25:51the men finished the games.
- 1:26:07Don't they alternate every
- 1:26:08year who starts and who leaves the day?
- 1:26:12I had Holly do the research.
- 1:26:14I know.
- 1:26:15I understand.
- 1:26:15And I'm kind of wondering if
- 1:26:17some of those years they
- 1:26:18just didn't like... Because
- 1:26:20I know I can picture in the
- 1:26:21past they've like...
- 1:26:23Say the women started the odd years.
- 1:26:26They would do heats one and
- 1:26:28two or however many.
- 1:26:29If there's three heats,
- 1:26:31then they would do heats one and two,
- 1:26:33wait, let the men go,
- 1:26:35and then the last heat of
- 1:26:36the women would go.
- 1:26:37So Holly did that research.
- 1:26:42The last heat has been men
- 1:26:45the majority of the time.
- 1:26:4711 to 4,
- 1:26:48I think I counted on your stat sheet.
- 1:26:51just interesting like I you
- 1:26:52would think that they would
- 1:26:53rotate every year like I
- 1:26:54don't think it matters but
- 1:26:55you would think that they
- 1:26:56would go one year it's the
- 1:26:57men that finish one year
- 1:26:58it's the woman that finish
- 1:26:59um but it's just
- 1:27:02interesting that the men
- 1:27:04often finish the events not
- 1:27:07on different days because
- 1:27:08like it'll be the woman on
- 1:27:09like they'll change every
- 1:27:11other day but always the
- 1:27:12last day typically in in
- 1:27:15the history is what we're
- 1:27:16seeing is the men will end the games
- 1:27:20Which is just, like, I don't know.
- 1:27:22I would argue, though,
- 1:27:24that even if the men, like,
- 1:27:26if the men had heats one
- 1:27:27and two and then all three
- 1:27:29heats of the women finish,
- 1:27:31or two heats or however many there is,
- 1:27:32or four heats for one year, like,
- 1:27:35that breakup to put the men
- 1:27:37then at the end, like,
- 1:27:39you maybe got more eyes on
- 1:27:40that full group of women.
- 1:27:45I don't know.
- 1:27:47I don't know.
- 1:27:49It was just a thought.
- 1:27:50We don't have hard data to go with this,
- 1:27:53but it was just Andrew
- 1:27:54threw it out when he did
- 1:27:56that based on social media following.
- 1:27:59We don't have the views on
- 1:28:01the stream during those events.
- 1:28:03That would be the telltale sign.
- 1:28:08But I for sure think that
- 1:28:09they should be paid even.
- 1:28:10I think people in our sport
- 1:28:13are invested in both the
- 1:28:15men and the women field, I think,
- 1:28:16equally.
- 1:28:20I like the fact that it's
- 1:28:22equal in our sport because
- 1:28:23that's not the case in most sports.
- 1:28:25I like that.
- 1:28:29I know when I was young,
- 1:28:31female tennis was more
- 1:28:32popular than male tennis.
- 1:28:38I don't think that the pay
- 1:28:41back in the 80s and 90s
- 1:28:43translated to that.
- 1:28:46I think Billie Jean King
- 1:28:47worked really hard to get
- 1:28:48the women's pay basically even, I think,
- 1:28:51or pretty close to even with the men.
- 1:28:58Because there was a while,
- 1:28:59like I was really into women's tennis,
- 1:29:03and the men's game was just
- 1:29:04boring because it was just
- 1:29:06about the serve.
- 1:29:07And the women actually
- 1:29:09volleyed a lot more back then.
- 1:29:14you're and john young's
- 1:29:15probably serena probably
- 1:29:16has made more money than
- 1:29:17any tennis player ever but
- 1:29:20that is not just from
- 1:29:21winnings that is from like
- 1:29:22she is a global company
- 1:29:26herself right um and and
- 1:29:32the williams sisters did a
- 1:29:33lot to advance tennis for
- 1:29:35for women so yeah
- 1:29:39And you're right.
- 1:29:40She should have.
- 1:29:41She should have made more
- 1:29:43money than anybody.
- 1:29:46It was just something to
- 1:29:47throw out there because of
- 1:29:48what was said in a fleeting
- 1:29:50moment on a post.
- 1:29:52And I just was like, well,
- 1:29:53let's try to find some
- 1:29:54numbers to back that up or
- 1:29:57how things have gone.
- 1:29:58I think my biggest concern
- 1:30:01with it is these are
- 1:30:03numbers that CrossFit
- 1:30:04should be looking at.
- 1:30:05And I wish I had the
- 1:30:06confidence to know that
- 1:30:07that's what they were doing.
- 1:30:10You know what I mean?
- 1:30:11Like, look at the streaming numbers.
- 1:30:13Are they lining up the
- 1:30:15events so that the most
- 1:30:16popular things are being
- 1:30:18shown in the most popular time,
- 1:30:20in the featured times?
- 1:30:24Yeah.
- 1:30:26I mean,
- 1:30:26I don't even know that they look at
- 1:30:28viewership or any of that.
- 1:30:30I mean,
- 1:30:31they've made a lot of poor
- 1:30:32decisions in regards to
- 1:30:33trying to increase viewership.
- 1:30:36Like,
- 1:30:36I know they can't really do a lot with
- 1:30:41the Olympics right now, but like,
- 1:30:42it's not a great time to
- 1:30:44have the games going on.
- 1:30:46I mean,
- 1:30:46maybe you needed to move it up two
- 1:30:48weeks this year.
- 1:30:49Yeah.
- 1:30:51I had that question in there.
- 1:30:53Are you going to feel torn
- 1:30:55with the games and Olympics
- 1:30:57going on at the same time as a viewer?
- 1:31:01Yeah.
- 1:31:01I mean,
- 1:31:02and then it's the same with the Masters.
- 1:31:04Like, I swear they're hoping that,
- 1:31:07they're trying to prove
- 1:31:08that it's going to fail.
- 1:31:09Well, yeah,
- 1:31:10you've put it all on the same
- 1:31:11weekend where your entire,
- 1:31:14all the people trying to
- 1:31:15watch have to split between
- 1:31:18your teens and your Masters.
- 1:31:21Like, that's just silly.
- 1:31:24That's not how you grow.
- 1:31:26And be like, see, we told you.
- 1:31:27And all the other people
- 1:31:28that are trying to be like, well,
- 1:31:29you guys keep asking for it,
- 1:31:30but you can't go.
- 1:31:31No, people can't go.
- 1:31:32They can't even go.
- 1:31:33Moms and daughters can't even go together.
- 1:31:35Like, it's terrible.
- 1:31:38I am glad they're at least streaming,
- 1:31:41live streaming the Masters
- 1:31:42and Adaptive and Teens,
- 1:31:44as they wrote on their Instagram.
- 1:31:46So that's a positive.
- 1:31:48And Sean Woodland did get
- 1:31:49picked up for the Masters.
- 1:31:50He got recruited.
- 1:31:53Yeah,
- 1:31:53we knew that would happen pretty quickly.
- 1:31:55Yeah.
- 1:32:00It looks like a lot of
- 1:32:01people are not torn.
- 1:32:02They're going to use IG for
- 1:32:04the Olympics and watch the CrossFit,
- 1:32:07but we're a bunch of CrossFit nerds here.
- 1:32:09Yeah.
- 1:32:13Well, and I'll be honest.
- 1:32:14I am not the Olympic fanatic
- 1:32:16that some people are.
- 1:32:17I will watch pretty heavily
- 1:32:19through the swimming
- 1:32:20because that's what I did for so long.
- 1:32:22And then when they get to track and field,
- 1:32:24I'll start to hit a burnout
- 1:32:26during that week of like a
- 1:32:27week and a half of trying
- 1:32:28to catch everything.
- 1:32:29And then rugby's not as cool
- 1:32:32as I thought it was.
- 1:32:32And fencing, well,
- 1:32:34maybe not as exciting as I
- 1:32:35thought it was in week one.
- 1:32:36And I'll probably just dive
- 1:32:38over to the CrossFit.
- 1:32:39But
- 1:32:41Yeah, I'll be watching both,
- 1:32:43but I want to make sure my
- 1:32:44heat one picks are in line.
- 1:32:46So I got to I got to be
- 1:32:48paying attention to the
- 1:32:49games workouts as well.
- 1:32:50I just hope that the Wi-Fi
- 1:32:52at the arena is better than Madison.
- 1:32:55Do it the night before.
- 1:32:56But a lot of the Olympic
- 1:32:59stuff are very early in the morning.
- 1:33:01So it could work from where
- 1:33:04I am right now in California.
- 1:33:05So I think I'll be able to
- 1:33:07watch both of them.
- 1:33:08As an old man,
- 1:33:09I love that I get to watch
- 1:33:11the primetime Olympic events at 2 p.m.
- 1:33:16It doesn't affect my bedtime.
- 1:33:18It doesn't affect anything.
- 1:33:19I love it.
- 1:33:24Larry, who's not going?
- 1:33:27I don't feel like there's
- 1:33:29any masters that were going
- 1:33:31that are not going now.
- 1:33:34Yeah, everyone I've talked to is going.
- 1:33:40So, yeah.
- 1:33:44I mean,
- 1:33:44if you're talking like someone like Rich,
- 1:33:46we always knew he wasn't
- 1:33:47going to be going.
- 1:33:48He wasn't even.
- 1:33:50Yeah,
- 1:33:50it's a full docket at the Masters games.
- 1:33:54Yeah.
- 1:33:55What helped is they kept at
- 1:33:56least the same prizing money, right,
- 1:33:58for the Masters as past years.
- 1:34:00Had that gone down,
- 1:34:01I think you would see a
- 1:34:02difference in maybe some of
- 1:34:03the international athletes
- 1:34:04that would travel.
- 1:34:06The only person that I knew
- 1:34:08was in question is Will Morad,
- 1:34:10but it's due to an injury,
- 1:34:11not to anything else.
- 1:34:13Right.
- 1:34:13Yeah.
- 1:34:17But everybody else I've
- 1:34:18talked to is going.
- 1:34:19Mm-hmm.
- 1:34:27So there we go.
- 1:34:33John Young is saying that if
- 1:34:34he can get it in, I can get it in.
- 1:34:36I just wait until the last minute.
- 1:34:37I will admit, I am not the best planner.
- 1:34:42And I'm going alone this year,
- 1:34:44so I have nobody to be on
- 1:34:45my butt about getting all
- 1:34:49this stuff done.
- 1:34:50I may show up at the games
- 1:34:51mid-afternoon because I
- 1:34:52just am not put together.
- 1:34:58This will be the first time
- 1:34:59in a long time I don't have someone to
- 1:35:04Make sure I don't forget stuff.
- 1:35:07I feel so bad next year.
- 1:35:10We're going to have a good
- 1:35:11team there though.
- 1:35:14With that guys, it's been fun tonight.
- 1:35:17Rip apart our picks.
- 1:35:20Uh, it was really hard.
- 1:35:21It was so hard,
- 1:35:22much harder to do the men than the women.
- 1:35:24Uh, it is such a deep field.
- 1:35:27It's going to be a fun
- 1:35:28competition to watch.
- 1:35:31so much fun it's going to be
- 1:35:32a just like the olympics
- 1:35:33have come down to like
- 1:35:36hundreds of a second this
- 1:35:38men's competition is going
- 1:35:40to come down as a nail
- 1:35:41biter to the end you know
- 1:35:43it so can't wait all right
- 1:35:51I'll be about it john
- 1:35:54And I'm going to finish with this.
- 1:35:56I had Caitlin Johnson on on Friday.
- 1:35:59I've been watching swimming.
- 1:36:00I want to get back in the pool.
- 1:36:02The dog is coming back out in me.
- 1:36:06I want to supplement my
- 1:36:08training with some swimming again.
- 1:36:12One,
- 1:36:12I think it'll do wonders for my
- 1:36:13recovery and help this old
- 1:36:16body mend faster and
- 1:36:19Just by doing some non-impact stuff.
- 1:36:24Now I just got to find the
- 1:36:25pool that is open
- 1:36:26consistently that will
- 1:36:27allow me to do that.
- 1:36:29But, yeah, I'm pretty fired up about that.
- 1:36:32That's awesome.
- 1:36:35So, yeah.
- 1:36:35So once I get back from the games,
- 1:36:36I got to find a membership,
- 1:36:38get in the pool,
- 1:36:39like two days a week swimming,
- 1:36:40and then do my CrossFit the
- 1:36:42rest of the week.
- 1:36:43But just to, like,
- 1:36:45get some low-impact time in
- 1:36:48to feel better.
- 1:36:51With that,
- 1:36:54Will Moore had just posted on IG
- 1:36:55of a pick of a box and a rock.
- 1:36:58I know he liked the prize
- 1:36:59money for the 35 to 39.
- 1:37:02And he told me that if it
- 1:37:03was staying the same,
- 1:37:04he was going to try to get
- 1:37:05there and make decisions on
- 1:37:08his recovery based on that.
- 1:37:10They stayed the same.
- 1:37:13Maybe he's going to give it a go.
- 1:37:17And if he is,
- 1:37:18we'll be behind the scenes to
- 1:37:19catch it all.
- 1:37:21So that's going to be a blast too.
- 1:37:24With that,
- 1:37:25we're going to get everybody out
- 1:37:26of here tonight.
- 1:37:27Enjoy the Olympics this week.
- 1:37:28We'll be back next week.
- 1:37:30Maybe we'll do our thoughts
- 1:37:32on who's going to win the teams.
- 1:37:34Maybe not a full 40 or 30 breakdown.
- 1:37:38We tried that last year,
- 1:37:40and you might as well just
- 1:37:41put them in a box.
- 1:37:43Top five.
- 1:37:44Yeah, we'll go top five.
- 1:37:47With that, everybody, have a great week.
- 1:37:48We'll see you next time on
- 1:37:50Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 1:37:52Bye, guys.
